Sellers In Black Hawk Down
The 2002 film Black Hawk Down, directed by Ridley Scott, tells a heart wrenching true story of the
160 United States solders who risked their lives to capture major war lords who controlled the city of
Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia in east Africa in 1993. The solders found themselves in an
unexpected position after things do not go as planned. In this essay, I argue that when faced with life
or death, loyalty and duty to man and country along with the pursuit for a better life, man would rather
die than watch the innocent suffer.

The Value Of Values For A Human Life
Life is just a bowl of cherries. After our birth, we go to school and subsequently work until we die
with no further progression. Finality in death does not often motivate people to sway from this
monotone, predetermined story. But it should. Our lives are blips in the grand scheme of things with
no real significance or impact so how do we assign a value to human life? Is a construction worker
more valuable than an inventor or a teacher? What can one do to be valuable even in the slightest? As
controversial as deciding someone s life value is, putting a dollar value on that life arises as a more
challenging topic. We must assign a dollar value to lives in the justice system. If not for our obsession
with currency we might value people s lives all the same. We give power to pieces of green paper,
therefore, justifying compensation for a human life. With many contributing factors to a person s
value, one must consider sick or disabled people who simply cannot actively contribute to the future
of mankind. Society should assign value to human lives based on whether a person reproduces or
passes on wisdom in a monumental way. Although some people can be worth something without
reproducing or passing wisdom on, having children and positively influencing the future is the sole
biological purpose of the human race. Happiness can lead to a valuable life. In spite of this, your own
happiness will be forgotten eventually or maybe not even remembered at all. Humans busy themselves

How Has Classical Music Changed the World
HOW HAS CLASSICAL MUSIC CHANGED THE WORLD How has classical music changed the
world we live in? The world we live in has changed but Classical music has remained the same.
Classical music isn t really prevalent in today s society. Classical music doesn t appeal to this
generation. Classical music is more appreciated by older generations. Classical Music is not as
popular today as it used to be. It has been around for hundreds of years and it is the oldest type of
music out there. Classical music is very complex in nature. Classical music has grown distant from the
culture we live in. The rest of the world changed but classical music has remained the same. Classical

Listening to classical music stimulates the creative pathways in the human brain. Classical music has
been found to reduce tension and enhance brain power and specific types of intelligence such as
verbal ability and spatial temporal reasoning. Because of this, Classical music has been found to be
extremely beneficial for pregnant women. Studies have shown that babies listening to classical music
in the womb could benefit the baby by raising their intelligence and mental development. Not only is
classical music a calming method for both mother and child, the music can help to prepare an unborn
infant s ears and brain for the outside world. Mothers can play the classical music for their baby by
placing earphones around her belly. This theory of letting babies listen to the classical music by
classical music genius Mozart in the womb became known as the The Mozart Theory. During the
1990s, several research papers and popular books wrote about The Mozart Theory, which came to be
called the Mozart Effect : an observed temporary, small elevation of scores on certain tests as a result
of listening to Mozart s music. The Mozart effect has been the subject of much research in recent
years, after it was found that listening to Mozart s music may increase specific types of intelligence.
The approach has been popularized in a book by Don Campbell, and is based on an experiment
suggesting that listening to Mozart temporarily

Social Implications and Consequences of the Hebrew Diaspora
The reason for consequences for the Hebrew diaspora vary in 3 different main points. The first main
point is social implications or what does everyone think. The second main point is the consequences in
the Hebrew diaspora and the last point is the benefits of the Hebrew diaspora.
When I chose my question I had to choose something that was interesting to me. Now not too many
things interest me but I was able to find something that helped. History has shown us a lot of things
and also teaches a lot. When I entered world history there was only so much I knew and all the
questions that I could choose from weren t really interesting. For some reason I like to learn about
Jewish people and what happened to them over history. As you know the holocaust really set them
back. I do not like the holocaust but I enjoy learning about what happened. Since I enjoy learning
about it. I chose a question relating to that sort of topic but it is not exactly that topic. It focuses more
on the people and what they did afterwards and even during it. I am personally not Jewish o Hebrew
but I think that what happened to them hurt us all. When you look history it almost like a series of
events that show our mistakes and accomplishments. Knowing this everything that we do will go
down in history as a mistake or accomplishment. Knowing this we are setting a guideline to the future
generations so they don t repeat our mistake and so they can learn from them and help earth. Writing

The Theory Of Language For Children With Language...
Speech language pathology is a constantly evolving field. In truth, assessment strategies and therapies
are constantly being improved because of the influences of Swiss biologist Jean Piaget (1896 1980)
and Russian psychologist Lev Vygotsky (1896 1934), who developed theories of cognitive
development among children. While these theories are similar in some ways, they also have key
differences, such as the fact that Piaget thought children developed through stages, whereas Vygotsky
stressed a more continuous and social process. Piaget s key findings in the sensorimotor stage of a
child s development and the fact that children are active learners are highly applicable in an
occupation such as speech language pathology. The same is true about Vygotsky s ideas of scaffolding,
social interaction, and the zone of proximal development. These beliefs of Piaget and Vygotsky are
essential to the understanding and application of speech language pathologists in their language
evaluations and in developing treatment plans for children with language impairments and disorders.
As discussed in the online lectures, Jean Piaget was a constructivist who believed that children
developed through discontinuous stages. Each stage is qualitatively different, indicating that children
think a specific way across each stage. Piaget s findings in the sensorimotor period, which occurs from
birth until the first two years of life, are especially important to speech language pathologists because

The Impact Of Reporting On Foodborne Diseases
The Impact of Reporting on Foodborne Diseases
Abstract ( 300 words): Foodborne diseases result from the ingestion of over 200 pathogens, chemicals,
and parasites, which are contaminated in foods and food products at different points in the food
production and preparation process. 1 The Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) is tracks
foodborne diseases through reports from state and local health departments and various surveillance
systems. Though there have been many methods of control and prevention within food safety laws,
there are high chances of underreporting incidents of foodborne diseases. Foodborne illnesses can be
severe or even fatal; milder cases are often not detected through routine surveillance.12 Medical
professionals, health departments, and laboratories play key roles in identifying foodborne diseases
and their sources and reporting them through surveillance systems. Also, some agents transmitted
commonly through food (e.g., norovirus) are not monitored by certain surveillance systems because
clinical laboratories do not routinely test for them. Most foodborne diseases can be prevented, and
progress has been made in decreasing contamination of some foods and reducing illness caused by
pathogens, but much remains to be done.4
Introduction:
The Food and Drug Administration, United States Department of Agriculture and health departments
all over the nation take food safety regulation seriously and are attempting to reduce foodborne

Atoms for Peace Analysis Essay
Dwight D Eisenhower, the 34th President of the United States from 1953 1960, is revered as a
statesman and great military leader. Born in Texas in 1890 and raised in Kansas to a family that valued
education, Eisenhower began a long career as a leader and military officer upon his graduation in 1915
from West Point. Eisenhower is recognized for his leadership and oratorical skills which he applied to
both military endeavors and managing the nation. He was fortunate to be mentored by General Fox
Conner, in the Panama Canal Zone. Conner encouraged him to study important works of history,
military science, and philosophy which Eisenhower applied to his own efforts and experiences.
Eisenhower later moved up the military ranks to five star ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The audience s biases and beliefs both impeded and helped Eisenhower s proposal. Eisenhower s
diction was appropriate for his audience; though he used some jargon, the members were able to
understand because of their level of knowledge. His appeals, mostly to pathos and ethos, were
effective. He established ethos by addressing the meeting with France and Great Britain, and through
his position as President. Eisenhower s use of rhetoric allowed his audience to be receptive to his
argument. In Eisenhower s introduction he does not construct the reality and frame the question
effectively. He does not make his purpose clear in his introduction either. Even though in the first
paragraph Dwight mentions that his speech will be about the issues of society today, he does not
mention those issues much farther in the text. The structure of his arguments contribute to his
persuasion. Eisenhower would begin by telling the audience what the issues at hand are, then would
say his solution to each problem. For example, around the 21st paragraph, Eisenhower uses a first,
second and finally method. In those, he states some issues such as, the knowledge now possessed by
several nations will eventually be shared by others possibly all others. Then Dwight goes to suggest
the solution or solutions to the previously stated problems. Also, throughout the piece, he

of either the capitalist block, led by USA or the Socialist block led by the former USSR. In that global
division of Africa and Arab Countries, both Ethiopia and the Gulf Arab Countries was strong adherent
with the capitalist block. Both enjoyed American and West European political patronage and
protection. Thus imperial Ethiopia and the Gulf Arab Countries were partners against the spread of
socialist and radical political ideas in this part of the world (Hoynes 1993).
Surprisingly, their strong and pro capitalist political alliance did not led to significant involvement of
the rich Gulf Arab Countries in Ethiopian economic development during the rule of Emperor Haile
Sillassie. We are not very sure about the rate of involvement Gulf Arab countries in other African
Countries during the same period. But it is still very curious to know the reasons for complete absence
of GCC Arab Countries investment in the Imperial Ethiopia.
One may assume that the political crisis that erupted after formal abolition of the federal status of
Eritrea in 1962 ignited resentment and anger in the Arab World including the Gulf Arab Countries
(Bahru, 1991). The Eritrean Federal status, prescribed by the UN General Assembly provided that
Arabic would be the second official language Muslims of Eritrea would enjoy full fleshed equality in
both cultural and political terms. Thus the abolition of the Federal status could evoke anger and
frustration in Eritrea and the neighboring Muslim Arab World.

Mordor s Rings Essay
I smell it in the air. Much that once was is lost, for none now live who remember it.
It began with the forging of the Great Rings. Three were given to the Elves, immortal, wisest and
fairest of all beings. Seven to the Dwarf Lords, great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls. And
nine, nine rings were gifted to the race of Men, who above all else desire power. For within these rings
was bound the strength and the will to govern each race. But they were all of them deceived, for
another ring was made. Deep in the land of Mordor, in the Fires of Mount Doom, the Dark Lord
Sauron forged in secret a master ring to control all others, and into this ring he poured his cruelty, his
malice and his will to dominate all life. One ring to rule them all. ... Show more content on

Mount Doom, they fought for the freedom of Middle Earth. Victory was near, but the power of the
ring could not be undone.
It was in this moment, when all hope had faded, that Isildur, son of the king, took up his father s
sword.
Sauron, enemy of the free peoples of Middle Earth, was defeated. The Ring passed to Isildur, who had

The Oppression Of Women In Today s Western Culture
There have been many unspoken agreements made in the past 250 or so years of western culture.
There s an understanding in our community that some things just are because they are, especially
when it concerns gender. In America, men don t wear makeup or dresses. Girls aren t supposed to be
doctors, athletes, or CEOs. And in western culture, it s the simple truth that the only genders that exist
are boy, and girl. There s basis behind some of it, but one of the only reasons that it s western
philosophy is because it just... is.
Recently, however, these philosophies are being challenged. People across the world and America are
separating gender from activities and lifestyles. Male beauty gurus like Manny Gutierrez are making
waves. Marissa Mayer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Water Pollution Is A Problem That Effects All Living Things
Water pollution is a problem that effects all living things. Every living organism on the earth needs
water to survive. When the water is polluted, it not only effects the plants and animals, it harms
people. Taking care of this planet s water is very important to the short term and long term survival of
living things. The oceans are constantly being polluted by individuals and many industries. These
waters must be cleaned up before the costs are too great and the damages beyond repair. Action to
clean up the Earth s water supply is long overdue. People in all countries must begin to take action.
Plans must be made to get rid of water pollution and prevent any further destruction of the only source
of water that the earth has. The actions taken will not only make the planet safer and cleaner for now,
but for generations to come.
For years, the world has thought the oceans are much too big to be effected by human action. The idea
that the ocean is indestructible has met its end. Peter Weber, a Research Associate at the World Watch
Institute says, Today, with technologies that allow us to penetrate the salt water depths, we have
discovered that despite their size and imperturbable appearance, the oceans are vulnerable to the same
unsustainable trends that are degrading the terrestrial environment. The oceans are one of the most
important natural resources on the planet. Many plants, fish, and mammals have made the ocean their
home. Much of the world s human population

Mary Magdalene
In this paper I will share the life of Mary Magdalene, the faithful disciple she was to Jesus all the way
to the very end and how God wants us to model our lives in the same fashion. Mary Magdalene s life
as we know it begins in her native city of Magdala. Magdala is the Greek form of mighdol or
watchtower, probably named for the tower that guarded the city. (The Zondervan Pictorial
Encyclopedia of the Bible, 1975, p. 105) It is believed that Mary received her last name Magdalene by
designation. According to the Zondervan Handbook to the Bible (2009) this designation means that
she was unmarried, since married women were normally distinguished from others of the same name
by the name of their husband.

She could confirm that Jesus was truly dead. Mary and the other women prepared the spices needed
for the customary burial of Jesus body. Preparing the body for burial was a traditional task done by the
Jewish women. This is seen as a final and gentle service given to the body of their loved ones.
IV. Mary Magdalene was witness to the Resurrection. Mark 16:1 11, Luke 24:1 11, Matthew 28:1 10,
John 20:1 18
Mary found the stone rolled away and Jesus body was no longer there. She received a message from
an angel and was the first person to see the risen Jesus. Making her the first witness to the
resurrection! The excitement she must have felt when she realized she was speaking with her risen
Savior!
All four gospels mention Mary s presence with Jesus as being faithful to the end. Isn t this the type of
relationship God wants us to have with Him, faithful to the end? Mary gave up everything to follow
Jesus and to lead others in His ministry. She was committed to what she believed and she was willing
to risk everything to tell others about the Word of God. Shouldn t we as Christians be like this as well?
I m not saying that our road will be easy but we must stand firm in God s Word because that is
constant and never changes!
We will never have all the answers until the day God returns so we need just have faith in God and His
plan. With Mary Magdalene there are so many

The Banking Concept Of Education By Paulo Freire
According to Paulo Freire in The Banking Concept of Education, the narrative nature of the teacher
student correspondence is toxic and counterproductive in any form (Freire 259). To capture this idea,
Freire makes education synonymous with a teacher making deposits into the mind of a student, but the
scope of action allowed to the students extends only as far as receiving, filing, and storing the deposits
(Freire 260). Therefore, interpretation and creativity are commodities that do not reach the surface of a
student s work or thoughts. A personal example of such a loss in experience comes directly from my
freshman high school English class, and said experience strongly represents a banking atmosphere. In
contrast, a problem posing classroom would inspire original thought and energetic conversation. All in
all, the teacher student relationship is a critical focal point in terms of whether or not a classroom is
successful.
Paulo Freire recognizes the practice of roles that mirror oppressive society by noting the
overwhelming social acceptance that the teacher is the Subject of the learning process, while the
pupils are mere objects , utterly halting any sort of independent or creative thinking from a student
(Freire 261). Suddenly, the outlook of having no dialogue between a teacher and student, only
opinionated information transference, eliminates the possibility for innovation. In my English class,
my teacher spewed information at the class to memorize and

what they are primarily used for, and also how these things go back thousands of years. Catacombs are
underground, which is a city of the dead with different passages with tombs in the side. Roman had a
law that stated that no one can be buried in the walls of Rome itself. Catacombs are made out of
different soils, these soils are solid and hard, they needed them to last forever so the people won t get
destroyed. It is astonishing on how they are still around today and you can go on tours to see these

Effects Of Glaciers On The Environment
As time progresses more and more emissions are expelled into our atmosphere. While this happens at
the current rate, our world begins to warm and the climates begin to change. One of the largest
impacts we see in our world is glaciers retreating at a pace that seems unstoppable. As the glaciers
retreat we see the surrounding ecosystems changing with them. The water put off into the oceans
impacts not only molecules in the water but the life within it. As glaciers retreat more and more
questions arise but one pressing factor is how it is affecting entire surrounding regions. It is
questionable to see if some species are adapting to the receding of glaciers or if populations are
directly impacted. Since glaciers play a huge role in the environment, it can only be predicted that it
will impact many species dramatically. This can be predicted because of the noticeable change in the
ecosystems around them. Glaciers hold a huge mass that not only covers large areas of land but shapes
and changes the landscape. Since Prince William Sound has so many glaciers feeding into its region it
is an ideal area to observe.. Since glaciers are such influential masses in our environment it can be
predicted that their retreat has direct impact in their region. Prince William Sound is located in
Southeast Alaska and is in the Chugach National Forest. The Sound is home to a temperate rainforest

Summary Of The Record Of The Peach Blossom Spring By Tao...
In the 4th century, there was a story about a fisherman. After an exhausting day, he accidentally
encountered a lovely stream full of peach trees on the shores. He followed the trace of the water, and
entered an extremely narrow cave. Yet, when he eventually walked through the tunnel, the scene he
saw stunned him:
After walking another twenty or thirty paces, he suddenly exited onto an open clearing. The land
became flat and broad. Houses were neatly arranged in rows. There were fertile fields, beautiful
ponds, mulberry trees, bamboo groves and the like. Pathways crisscrossed the fields, and one could
hear the intermingled sounds of chickens and dogs. There were people walking back and forth,
busying themselves with planting crops. The clothing of the men and women was unlike anything he
had ever seen. Old and young alike seemed happy and contented. (Tao Yuanming, The Record of the
Peach Blossom Spring, excerpt of the 2nd paragraph)
What an ideal life of retreat! Deep in the unknown mountain range hidden a traditional village with
pleasant scenery, careful orderliness, empowered productivity, and most importantly, happy residents.

Civic Engagement Initiative
The Civic Engagement Initiative
The focal point of current educational trend in the United States is on preparing the leaders of
tomorrow (National Task Force, 2012). Student success has been expanded to include civic
responsibility which is a dimension of the college experience largely ignored until recently (Upcraft,
Gardner, Barefoot, 2005). The Department of Education has taken this charge and developed the
National Task Force for Democratic and Civic Engagement. This initiative places developing civic
responsibility as a national priority based on the tendency of young people who are often too caught
up in narrow collegiate worlds of their own existence to understand the larger role of being a
contributing member of society (Upcraft, Barefoot Gardner, 2005). Thus, engagement as a
participating citizen living in community is frequently beyond the scope of young student leaders in
college. Due to this, the government has renewed its interest in creating civic minded young people
prepared to advocate for change. This has led the charge for a civic engagement initiative nationwide.
With civic engagement development being initiated nationwide, we must attempt to understand
citizenship in today s world. Citizenship is often a misunderstood concept. ... Show more content on

want you or our whole family will be disgraces (Tan 45). In the same fashion, it is said that a son can
never go to somebody else s house to live. If he went, he would lose any hope for a future (Tan 246).
Equally important, men can have multiple wives but women will get shamed by their family if they
have more than one husband. For example, An mei s mother was a widow but was raped and became
the third concubine to a rich man. Although it was not by choice, her family disowned and kicked her
out of the house. Hence, men have more freedom than women in the Chinese

The Correlation Between Free Time Usage And Personality...
Product Design
Design
Components. Next year, I plan to investigate the correlation between free time usage and personality
traits. The product will include a survey, which will assess one s recreational activities (such as
watching television, playing video games, reading novels, or posting on social media) as well as one s
personality traits under the Big Five dimensions. In addition to the survey, which will be completed by
Commonwealth Governor School students (and, if feasible, students outside of the program in high
school), I will analyze the data and determine the correlation through the use of previously designed
tests.

Personality Item ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the IPIP materials are free of cost.
Connections
Research. Throughout the year, I researched the origin and stability of personality traits. With this
research came an investigation into the models of personality traits, which guide research in the area
of personality psychology. The Big Five, also known as the Five Factor Model (FFM), provides the
most accurate representation of one s personality traits. Thus, in using a Big Five test in my survey,
the product directly connects to my research. Expertise. The product demonstrates my expertise in the
area because it will require a broad knowledge of the personality dimensions of the Big Five. It will
also require an understanding of the wide influence of personality, which provides the basis for the
product. By hypothesizing that personality will influence one s free time usage, I am expressing and
expanding my knowledge in the area. Excellence. The product will demonstrate excellence through
the use of previously tested survey items (promoting reliability and validity) and through the
application of my knowledge in the subject area (promoting more efficient analyses of the results to
describe the correlation).
Reflection and Planning Further research. In order to complete the product, I will need to research the
IPIP and learn more about the test items and scales the organization offers .I will also research the
questions needed to analyze the usage of free time.

Criminal Justice System In 12 Angry Men
Many important topics and integral information that is an essential part in the criminal justice system
have been introduced in the play 12 Angry Men . Some examples of this would be crime and justice
including the laws, criminal behavior, victimization, and the criminal justice system in itself. These
issues are everyday situations but many people have been oblivious to the problem. The twelve jurors
have an assignment where they will have to decide whether or not the young man on trial is guilty of
murdering his father or is innocent beyond a reasonable doubt. All twelve men are frustrated and lack
patience which lead them to be contumacious and unfocused. Their distraction led to many key facts
getting misemployed and emotions start to cross making it hard for the jurors to construct a resolution.
They have been oblivious to the effect that it would have on the community itself. On the information
given up to this point this process essay will articulate the unenlightenment and egomaniacal
principles of the twelve men in the short story and movie Twelve Angry Men written by Reginald
Rose and directed by Sidney Lumet. Both Lumet and Rose showed their point of views of the criminal
justice system in the play and the movie. Although the director s view on the justice system
demonstrated the rights that everyone had, it also revealed his thoughts on how the justice system is
corrupt, ineffective and unjust because all these aspects have shown the major differences in the
morality of the twelve individuals and the problem at hand in the movie and play 12 Angry Men .
The movie 12 Angry Men denotes how the most seemingly trivial facts and evidence can affect the
aftermath in a brobdingnagian way if not processed thoroughly. In the movie you have twelve jurors,
all from different backgrounds and with different personalities. But one wise and optimistic juror
speaks his opinion, one that doesn t make a big difference in the beginning but opens the minds of the
other eleven jurors as time goes by. He expresses the facts and evidence that was discussed during the
young man s trial. He had said I want to try this thing. Let me see how long it took him. I m going to
pace off twelve feet... . (Rose 40) Juror number

Emergency Department Boarding
Emergency Department boarding of psychiatric patients continues to be a major problem for hospitals.
Due to the lack of inpatient psych beds, interventions and alternatives have been installed by affected
hospitals to alleviate crowding. Also, in state level policies and increase funding for mental health to
ease this problem is also in effect. Not only that these systems in place ease the stay of mentally ill
patients, but also the remaining of its population. Since wait times for psychiatric beds to be ready for
intake takes from more than a few hours to sometimes months, emergency departments are left in an
indeterminate state. A research about the overcrowding of the EDs of Pennsylvania reported that, A

What Is Crocs Competitive Advantage
Crocs Strategy for Competitive Advantage
With revenue from Crocs shoe sales reaching to $680 million in 2007, it is clear that the company has
developed a successful strategy. Not all of the success can be contributed to the design of the product.
Although their products were in high demand, there are more underlying factors that have paved the
way for Crocs to be competitive in the shoe market. Crocs supply chain design and use of vertical
integration revolutionized speed and quality of order fulfillment.
Traditionally, the shoe industry was seasonal and based on projections of future trends. Retail stores
would need to place orders several months before the shoes would even hit the shelves. As orders
were made early in the year, manufacturers would begin production for shipment later in the year.
Since inventory supply depended on expected sales, stock could not be quickly replenished as it ran
out. The executives at Crocs decided to branch out from the traditional production schedules and
develop a lean production model. As sales increased or decreased, Crocs managed to speed up and
slow down production throughout the year to quickly replenish depleted inventory. Since the shoes
were easily made with the foam mold design, rapid production and order fulfillment came easily for
Crocs. This approach attracted the attention of many footwear retailers. With Crocs shoes being made
to order, stores could more easily control inventory without worrying about a

The Immigration Of Americ The Land Of The Free
The idea of immigration to America has been an extremely important part of the history of the country
for hundreds of years. Some of the original immigrants to America were the settlers in 1607, when a
group of men from England started a colony admits the swamplands of current day Virginia. Several
years later in 1620, a group of puritans known as the Pilgrims also made their way to America to start
a new life. Since then, millions have traveled across the ocean in hope of a new life and future in what
is known as The Land of the Free. Just like much of the eastern side of the country, the immigration of
Europeans to America played a very important role in the history of Michigan as well. It is through
these immigrants that the religion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Almost immediately after settlers started immigrating to America, Christian missionaries followed
closely behind, feeling it was their duty in the eyes of God to witness to the native people, and tell
them about what they believed to be the one and only true religion. Father Joseph LeCaron was one of
the first missionaries to come to America in the year 1615 (21). Several years later in 1665, Father
Claude Allouez also traveled from France to the Great Lakes when he first encountered some Natives
and their religious practices. He explains in a letter to his superiors in France that the natives were
worshiping a lake. The savages revere this lake as a divinity and offer it sacrifices, whether on account
of its size, or because of its goodness in furnishing fish...One often finds at the bottom of the water
pieces of pure copper...I have several times seen such pieces in the savages hands; and, since they are
superstitious, they keep them as so many divinities or as presents which the gods dwelling beneath the
water have given them and on which their welfare is to depend (Primary Document, 13). Another
primary document dating back to the year 1669, tells of when Adrien Jolliet, a French explorer and
missionary encountered a group of Natives practicing their religion. He explains in his writing that he

Foreign Affairs Concern With Cuba Essay
Mr. President:
We, as the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), need to engage you in a serious foreign affairs concern with
Cuba. Previously, the national security briefings have alerted you to the general concerns in Cuba.
Now, we need to bring to your attention to the bigger issue of Cuba s Prime Minister Fidel Castro s
forceful move towards direct communism rule by strengthening his ties with the Soviet Union and
Red China. The threat of communism neighboring our southern border is real.
Castro s immediate rise to power in Cuba was bothersome and concerning to the United States from
the beginning. Although we were suspicious of his intentions, we were initially hopeful that the
overthrow of Former Cuban President Fulgencio Batista would bring positive changes to Cuba and her
people. But, Castro has shown us through his extreme socialist policies that he aligns more with
communist policies. With the use of his Revolutionary Forces, he has gained full control of the Cuban
Government, including operations, law enforcement, utilities, labor unions, news outlets, and financial
institutions. From a humanitarian crisis aspect of governing, Castro is currently carrying out death
trials and mass executions. From an economic perspective, Castro is pushing down the upper and
middle class citizens in Cuba. Through the establishment of government control and ownership of
private property, he enforces reductions in residential rental prices to landlords. Also, he has

Supporting Interactive System Testing With Interaction...
Supporting Interactive System Testing with
Interaction Sequences
Jessica Turner
Faculty of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, University of Waikato
August 13, 2015
1 Research Topic
An interactive system is a piece of software or a device which requires human input. It consists of a
user interface which the user interacts with to access the underlying functions, described formally in
code. This allows the user to easily manipulate the system in order to complete some task. An
important subset of interactive systems is safety critical interactive systems (a system in which errors
can lead to injury or even death to the user). Unfortunately, the testing of these systems is currently
inadequate, resulting in serious harm or even fatalities (see [1] [2]).
A test is de ned in the Oxford Dictionary as: A procedure intended to establish the quality,
performance, or reliability of something, especially before it is taken into widespread use ; [3]. The
purpose of interactive system testing is not only to ensure that the system does what it is expected to,
but also to identify problems within the current version of the system. The resolution of these
problems will help to establish the quality, performance and/or reliability [3] of the system and help to
avoid future incidents.
In this research we propose using interaction sequences as an abstraction of the system under test to
support the testing process. An interaction sequence is the series of steps a user can take to perform a

Gender Bias Essay
Gender bias, also known as sexism, is a full of attitudes, laws, taboos, preferences, and behaviors that
differentiates and discriminates against either sex. These may be a position of which male dominance
and female subjugation in the modern society. It could also be a form of sexual stereotypes between
men and women, these are commonly experienced in employment versus other positions. A final place
that discrimination is faced is the academic environment, the female to male ratios are not in sync in
certain programs and courses because of this and it is pressuring men and women to not go into
certain fields and do what they love and please. Most advertisements on Television, magazines,
newspapers, online ad s, use a charged sexually image with a female as the star. Women are to be a
pleasure for men, and nothing else. Many people have different opinions on genders and sexuality and
that is okay, but sometimes you just need to keep them to yourselves. I was walking through Walmart
with a friend the other night, and we turned the corner to go down an aisle and they were walking
towards us. As we approached them, they moved out of the way, so we could get through. There were
5 male specimens, around the ages of 20 24, two white, one Hispanic, and two black guys. Most of
them were very tall, both white guys were thin and lean, the Hispanic guy was short and lean, and the
two black guys were tall and thick. All five of the guys dress in upper class clothes such as Nike,
Adidas, Under armor. As I observed these guys, they were in a group of friends. They were walking
according to race, two white guys in the front, and then the Hispanic guy was in the middle, and
following him was the two black guys. They were very respectful when we turned the corner and let
us go through, as we passed them they went back into their formation. Two white guys in the front,
and then the Hispanic in the middle, and the two black guys in the back. I also observed that they were
having separate conversations among themselves. As it appeared to me, it looked like they were just
socializing and spending time together, and goofing around. They could have been shopping but none

Essay On Descartes Mind And Body Dualism
In what sense (if any) is it true that the mind is better known than the body? Discuss the implications
of your answer.
INTRODUCTION
Descartes Meditations on First Philosophy (1641) is generally considered to be the starting point of
Western Philosophy. SUMMARY OF THE MEDIATIONS
On of the most lasting and notable legacies of Descartes philosophy is mind body dualism, which may
interpreted simply as distinction of mind and body. Descartes argues that the nature of mind that may
be understood as thinking, doubting, willing ( thinking thing ) is totally distinguished from the body
nature ( non thinking thing ). It is necessary to identify that Descartes uses the concept of mind to refer
to the consciousness, thinking self.
The Second Mediations is subtitled by The nature of human mind and how its better known than the
body proves that thinking thing , ability of thinking and arguing is the only true faculty. This argument
derives from the end of the First Mediation, where he turns all knowledge into questions and it s
impossible to be certain of anything. Descartes, in exploring the relationship between the mind and
body, suggests that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, if it is false, the wax argument is based on the perception of mind, and this prove that the
Mediator is thinking, therefore there is evidence of existence and being thinking thing . Descartes
states that the [notion or] perception of wax has seemed to me clearer and more distinct, not only after
the sight or the touch, but also after many other causes have rendered it quite manifest to me
(Descartes, 1991:12). This illustrates that the mediator can use senses to help to perceive the world.
Evidently, that the only way of not being deceived is only doubting everything. Hence, the doubts and
concerning that are beyond the senses may help to achieve the understanding that wax is still there
after all that

Unknown Permanganate Solution Lab Report
In this experiment, the concentration of an unknown permanganate solution will be determined.
Spectroscopic techniques will be used to measure various known concentrations of permanganate
solutions to create a calibration curve for the absorbance of light vs. the concentration and will be used
to determine the unknown concentration1.
Introduction
In order to perform this experiment, proficiency with using spectrometers, burettes, volumetric flasks,
weighing by difference, and making a hot water bath are essential1.
By using a spectrometer s function to analyze the absorbance of light of each of the known solutions,
the resulting linear correlation will provide an equation similar to the Beer s Law equation required for
calculations1.

Sophocles Antigone is about a young girl, Antigone, who feels that natural laws are more important
than Creon s laws. Antigone disobeys Creon law to ensure that Polyneices has a proper burial.
Antigone is the center of the play who defies the gender role of the typical Greek woman. Creon is
Antigone s uncle and the new King of Thebes who creates a tyranny. He is very self centered and does
not care to listen to anyone s opinions. Ismene is the most traditional character in the play. She is the

The Secret Lives Of John Wilson Analysis
Glory and Scandal , or in other words Mary and John, two characters from the novel The Secret Lives

events occurred through out the novel that caught my interest such as; the way they fell madly in love,
the transition into John becoming more of a ghost then a husband, then a more twisted unforeseen plot
that caught most readers entirely by surprise. The love affairs between the characters in the novel plus
the twists and turns you experience while reading is the main contributor as to why I love this book.
Two polar opposites who started a life together, followed by scandal and deceit, then ended in a most

Pros And Cons Of Recidivism Rates
As of the end of 2015, there were 1,526,800 prisoners in the United States being held in state or
federal correctional facilities. Every year, thousands of people are released from jail or prison. Most
people who are incarcerated today will eventually be released. Most of these individuals return to a
life of freedom without the skills they need to survive. Recidivism rates suggest that many of these
individuals will re offend within six months of release, and most will reoffend within three years. This
is not because they re bad people; it s because they are trying to thrive in a system that sets them up to
fail.
Given grim post release arrest rates, it s hard to understand why our government is not doing more to
help those transitioning from incarceration to life on the outside. It doesn t make sense for taxpayer
dollars to go towards incarcerating people over and over it seems that the money could be better spent
improving rehabilitation programs for inmates. Increased funding for programs aimed at helping
former inmates transition to life on the outside would likely lead to better outcomes for those
individuals, fewer crimes being committed, and lower recidivism rates. One would hope that our
society would want to see people who are incarcerated serve their time, get rehabilitated, get released,
and become productive members of their communities.
It is well known that former inmates face significant challenges upon being released. Some of these
challenges include

Butterfly Effect On Monarchs
Monarchs have been in danger for the longest time because of all the global warming we cause. One
of the many effects of global warming is climate change. The change in the climate can affect the
Monarch Butterflies migration and the life cycle,so we have to limit the amount of littering and
pollution.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Monarch Butterfly is the most known butterfly because of its colored wings that warns its
predators that it is poisonous. It is found throughout all of North America. The Monarch Butterfly can
t fly with a body temperature less than 86 degrees ,so they flap their wings and sit in the sun in order
to keep warm. The milkweed is the Monarch s main food source. The milkweed has many positive
effects on the Monarch Butterfly. For example, the butterfly lays the eggs on the plants ,and the
milkweed gives the poisonous taste to the predators when the caterpillar eats it. The Monarch lay their
eggs on the milkweed plant. They usually lay one egg on the plant which is the size of a pencil tip.
The yellow or white eggs start to hatch after four days. The female butterflies lay 300 500 eggs
through two to five weeks of the process of laying eggs. The next step in the life cycle is the larvae.
This is the stage where the monarchs do all of the growing. The caterpillar has many parts that help it
survive. Once the caterpillar gets older it starts to shed off its skin. The first part to shed off is the
head. The skin starts growing back into the caterpillar

In Common Sense, Paine uses powerful language to evoke an emotional response from his readers. In
the beginning of his piece, he utilizes powerful language that does not include personal connections, to
simply get the reader thinking. He refrains from using personal examples in the beginning, because he
would come off as a radical. Instead he works to evoke just a more logic based emotional response.
The purpose of keeping the language less personal but still powerful in the beginning, is to show to the
people that is not just another radical who wants independence simply because. He wants to present
himself as a level minded and educated writer who cares for the well being of the nation. Some
examples of the powerful language include sentences like, As a long and violent abuse of power, is
generally the Means of calling the right of it in question [...]and as the King of England hath

by the combination... . In this particular section, some diction that he uses that proves that he uses
slightly less emotionally charged words in the beginning are long and violent abuse and grievously
oppressed . Although both these phrases include very powerful language, they come off as factual.

Henry Viii Wholly Surrendered Power
Do you agree with the view that in the years 1515 1525 Henry VIII wholly surrendered power in

To a certain extent within Source 4 (by J.J. Scarisbrick 1968) supports the idea that possibly Henry

the Cardinals hands . To further support this case, it is clear that Wolsey was extremely powerful, he
had vast amounts of bishoprics (Archbishop of Canterbury, Tournai, Durham just to name a few) and
was the head of things such as the Star Chamber where Wolsey got himself heavily involved with.
This is shown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Source 5 written in 1994 by John Lotherington, appears to disagree with that of the view of
source 4. In parts it appears to actually agree with source 4, Wolsey held a dominant position in
government and controlled the distribution of patronage but then the source continues to say, And of
course the ultimate source of all power was the King . This quote can be proven true with examples of
Henry preventing Wolsey from doing something, such as in 1523 when Wolsey launched a sea attack
upon the French without the kings permission, this led to Wolsey having to apologize for his actions.
This shows that Henry still had control over Wolsey and that he couldn t get away with something so
easily. Also even though source 4 claims that Wolsey had very strong control, that even with this
power he couldn t prevent such things like The Amicable Grant of 1525 from being a disaster, and
without aids from The Dukes of Norfolk and Suffolk it could have been an even more disastrous, this
proves Henry was more in control than Wolsey because the Dukes only subdued the rebellions on
Henry s behalf, not Wolsey s. This is showing how Henry had not wholly surrendered his government
power, and could still contest Wolsey s decisions and problems. The source was also written in 1994,
therefore the historians view is likely to be more factual rather than written in the period and being
more biased, as can be the case, especially if that figure in

Internal Audit
Introduction
This report aims to investigate the role Internal Auditors (IA) plays in certain aspects of corporate
governance. The report also aims to investigate what is considered as good corporate governance.
Corporate governance is the system by which companies are directed and controlled. It deals largely
with the relationship between the constituent parts of a company the directors, the board (and its sub
committees) and the shareholders (Berr, 2008)
Corporate governance is necessary because of the problems caused by the divorce of ownership and
control in modern organisations. In order to protect the stakeholders of an organisation, regulators
addressed the problem by introducing corporate governance frameworks that ... Show more content on

The results shows that 86% percent of the firms using the advanced ERM stated better decisions were
made due to their ERM system which is 28% then all the other companies, this is the highest ranked
category for both groups of firms. There is a 47% and 45% difference with manager s responsibility
between the two groups of firms. The firms using advanced ERM also finds it easier with the

Michael Porter’s Generic Strategies
Michael Porter s Generic Strategies According to Porter, strategies allow organizations to gain
competitive advantage from three different bases: cost leadership, differentiation and focus. Porter
calls these bases as generic strategies. Cost leadership emphasizes producing standardized products at
a very low per unit cost for consumers who are price sensitive. Differentiation is a strategy aimed at
producing products and services considered unique industry wide and directed at customers who are
relatively price insensitive. Focus means producing products and services that fulfill the needs of
small groups of customers (niche market). When we consider competitiveness, the following
questions are raised: 1. Should we compete on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some companies which have successfully followed this strategy are: Wal Mart, Southwest Airlines,
Timex, Black Decker, Mc Donald s etc. A successful cost leadership strategy usually provides the
entire firm with high efficiency, low overhead, limited perks, intolerance of waste, intensive screening
of budget requests, and wide span of control efforts. However, some risks of pursuing this strategy are
that competitors might imitate the strategy, thus, driving overall industry profits down; that technology
breakthroughs in the industry may make the strategy ineffective; or that buyer s interest may swing to
other differentiating features besides price. Firms that succeed in cost leadership often have the
following internal strengths: Access to the capital required to make a significant investment in
production assets; this investment represents a barrier to entry that many firms may not overcome.
Skill in designing products for efficient manufacturing, for example, having a small component count
to shorten the assembly process. High level of expertise in manufacturing process engineering.
Efficient distribution channels. Its high market share means that it will have high bargaining power
relative to its suppliers and its low price will also serve as a barrier to entry. Differentiation Strategies
It is aimed at the broad mass market and involves the creation of a product or service that is perceived
unique throughout the industry. The company or

Keystone Vacation
Rayce Ruffing
Today we arrived in Keystone, Colorado for a week of skiing and relaxation. For this trip, we choose
to stay at the slope side condominium the Lone Eagle Lodge. These Condos are situated on the other
side of the ski trail River Run from the Base area and village. This location gives great access to the
Summit Express 6 person chair lift and the River Run 8 person Gondola. The only down side about
this location is the distance from the village, the only way to access it is to walk the quarter mile
across the snow covered River Run bridge. In the Spring the snow on this bridge is very soft and wet
so be sure to wear your snow boots if you plan to check out the village after a day on the slopes. As
for the Condominium itself, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it is a bit of a trip to get there the Outback has some of the best skiing on the mountain. The
Runs serviced by the Outback express lift are mostly Blacks, with a few Blues this deters the novice
skiers from making the trek and gives the more advanced skiers shorter lift lines, and steep open runs
to carve down, without the stress of slower skiers crowding the run. In addition to the fantastic cut
runs, the Outback offers the best tree skiing on the mountain. The resort does a great job of
maintaining the growth in this part of the mountain by cutting the smaller trees and trimming the
larger ones this creates perfect tree skiing because of the added space between trees it allows the skiers
to carry a bit more speed with confidence and cruise through the trees with ease. This peak also offers
the best views on the mountain, you can even see Breckenridge from across the valley. My Personal
favorite park about the Outback is the Cat skiing. For a $5 fee, you can get a ride in a snow cat up
above the lift serviced runs to the South Bowl. This is huge bowl is above the tree line gives you a
unique experience to ski great snow so high up. There is even a possibility to find some untouched
powder stash from the past snowstorms. We spent all day in the Outback and barely explored half of it

Benjamin Franklin s Autobiography
Benjamin Franklin is an iconic figure in history, primarily for his many inventions. Franklin also
wrote an autobiography about his life, there is a difference between a biography and an autobiography.
Biographies are written by someone who is writing about another person s life. An autobiography, on
the other hand, is a person writing about their own life. Usually in an autobiography, the writer will
talk about his or her life, including their childhood, family, and schooling. The writer will also usually
talk about their parents, and their marriage. Benjamin Franklin s autobiography is very different, he
starts off by saying dear son , which leads the reader to believe that it is a normal autobiography. Once
you read about two more paragraphs in the book, it is clear that it is not a ... Show more content on

He also briefly talks about his childhood life, but even then he still talks about how good he was and
how his friends respected him so much. Franklin also very briefly writes how he met the love of his
life in Philadelphia, then he doesn t really write much about dating the love of his life, which you
would think being an autobiography he would talk more about her. When the Governor of
Philadelphia wanted Franklin to go to London for starting a printing business he basically told his love
to marry another (Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin). Franklin s autobiography tells about his
many great accomplishments but very little about his personal life. When he does talk about his
personal life though, he always makes sure that even when he describes one of his family members or
a childhood memory Franklin writes about how good he was. Franklin also likes to portray himself as
the icon of the American dream, for example, Franklin emphasizes how vital it is for creditors to
support fledgling entrepreneurs; and so these stories illustrate, by implication, the importance of the
reader s willingness to credit Franklin s representations of the American experience ( Vassar

  • 2. Sellers In Black Hawk Down The 2002 film Black Hawk Down, directed by Ridley Scott, tells a heart wrenching true story of the 160 United States solders who risked their lives to capture major war lords who controlled the city of Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia in east Africa in 1993. The solders found themselves in an unexpected position after things do not go as planned. In this essay, I argue that when faced with life or death, loyalty and duty to man and country along with the pursuit for a better life, man would rather die than watch the innocent suffer. Mohammed Farrah Aidid was a the most powerful and ruthless war lord who deprived the people of Somalian of food as a form of power and control, despite the efforts of the U.S military. In the midst of the gun fire and explosions, Black Hawk Super Six One, piloted by Chief Warrant Officer Clifton Elvis Wolcott, played by Jeremy Piven, is hit with an RPG. The helicopter crashes to the ground a few miles away from the rest of the convoy, leaving them stranded and unprotected. Wolcott and his co pilot do not survive, leaving two gunmen wounded. • 3. The Value Of Values For A Human Life Life is just a bowl of cherries. After our birth, we go to school and subsequently work until we die with no further progression. Finality in death does not often motivate people to sway from this monotone, predetermined story. But it should. Our lives are blips in the grand scheme of things with no real significance or impact so how do we assign a value to human life? Is a construction worker more valuable than an inventor or a teacher? What can one do to be valuable even in the slightest? As controversial as deciding someone s life value is, putting a dollar value on that life arises as a more challenging topic. We must assign a dollar value to lives in the justice system. If not for our obsession with currency we might value people s lives all the same. We give power to pieces of green paper, therefore, justifying compensation for a human life. With many contributing factors to a person s value, one must consider sick or disabled people who simply cannot actively contribute to the future of mankind. Society should assign value to human lives based on whether a person reproduces or passes on wisdom in a monumental way. Although some people can be worth something without reproducing or passing wisdom on, having children and positively influencing the future is the sole biological purpose of the human race. Happiness can lead to a valuable life. In spite of this, your own happiness will be forgotten eventually or maybe not even remembered at all. Humans busy themselves ... The world we live in has changed but Classical music has remained the same. Classical music isn t really prevalent in today s society. Classical music doesn t appeal to this generation. Classical music is more appreciated by older generations. Classical Music is not as popular today as it used to be. It has been around for hundreds of years and it is the oldest type of music out there. Classical music is very complex in nature. Classical music has grown distant from the culture we live in. Listening to classical music stimulates the creative pathways in the human brain. Classical music has been found to reduce tension and enhance brain power and specific types of intelligence such as verbal ability and spatial temporal reasoning. Because of this, Classical music has been found to be extremely beneficial for pregnant women. Studies have shown that babies listening to classical music in the womb could benefit the baby by raising their intelligence and mental development. Not only is classical music a calming method for both mother and child, the music can help to prepare an unborn infant s ears and brain for the outside world. Mothers can play the classical music for their baby by placing earphones around her belly. This theory of letting babies listen to the classical music by classical music genius Mozart in the womb became known as the The Mozart Theory. During the 1990s, several research papers and popular books wrote about The Mozart Theory, which came to be called the Mozart Effect : an observed temporary, small elevation of scores on certain tests as a result of listening to Mozart s music. The Mozart effect has been the subject of much research in recent years, after it was found that listening to Mozart s music may increase specific types of intelligence. The approach has been popularized in a book by Don Campbell, and is based on an experiment suggesting that listening to Mozart temporarily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Social Implications and Consequences of the Hebrew Diaspora The reason for consequences for the Hebrew diaspora vary in 3 different main points. The first main point is social implications or what does everyone think. The second main point is the consequences in the Hebrew diaspora and the last point is the benefits of the Hebrew diaspora. When I chose my question I had to choose something that was interesting to me. Now not too many things interest me but I was able to find something that helped. History has shown us a lot of things and also teaches a lot. When I entered world history there was only so much I knew and all the questions that I could choose from weren t really interesting. For some reason I like to learn about Jewish people and what happened to them over history. As you know the holocaust really set them back. I do not like the holocaust but I enjoy learning about what happened. Since I enjoy learning about it. I chose a question relating to that sort of topic but it is not exactly that topic. It focuses more on the people and what they did afterwards and even during it. I am personally not Jewish o Hebrew but I think that what happened to them hurt us all. When you look history it almost like a series of events that show our mistakes and accomplishments. Knowing this everything that we do will go down in history as a mistake or accomplishment. Knowing this we are setting a guideline to the future generations so they don t repeat our mistake and so they can learn from them and help earth. Writing this essay is ... • 6. The Theory Of Language For Children With Language... Speech language pathology is a constantly evolving field. In truth, assessment strategies and therapies are constantly being improved because of the influences of Swiss biologist Jean Piaget (1896 1980) and Russian psychologist Lev Vygotsky (1896 1934), who developed theories of cognitive development among children. While these theories are similar in some ways, they also have key differences, such as the fact that Piaget thought children developed through stages, whereas Vygotsky stressed a more continuous and social process. Piaget s key findings in the sensorimotor stage of a child s development and the fact that children are active learners are highly applicable in an occupation such as speech language pathology. The same is true about Vygotsky s ideas of scaffolding, social interaction, and the zone of proximal development. These beliefs of Piaget and Vygotsky are essential to the understanding and application of speech language pathologists in their language evaluations and in developing treatment plans for children with language impairments and disorders. As discussed in the online lectures, Jean Piaget was a constructivist who believed that children developed through discontinuous stages. Each stage is qualitatively different, indicating that children think a specific way across each stage. Piaget s findings in the sensorimotor period, which occurs from birth until the first two years of life, are especially important to speech language pathologists because it is ... • 7. The Impact Of Reporting On Foodborne Diseases The Impact of Reporting on Foodborne Diseases Abstract ( 300 words): Foodborne diseases result from the ingestion of over 200 pathogens, chemicals, and parasites, which are contaminated in foods and food products at different points in the food production and preparation process. 1 The Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) is tracks foodborne diseases through reports from state and local health departments and various surveillance systems. Though there have been many methods of control and prevention within food safety laws, there are high chances of underreporting incidents of foodborne diseases. Foodborne illnesses can be severe or even fatal; milder cases are often not detected through routine surveillance.12 Medical professionals, health departments, and laboratories play key roles in identifying foodborne diseases and their sources and reporting them through surveillance systems. Also, some agents transmitted commonly through food (e.g., norovirus) are not monitored by certain surveillance systems because clinical laboratories do not routinely test for them. Most foodborne diseases can be prevented, and progress has been made in decreasing contamination of some foods and reducing illness caused by pathogens, but much remains to be done.4 Introduction: The Food and Drug Administration, United States Department of Agriculture and health departments all over the nation take food safety regulation seriously and are attempting to reduce foodborne diseases on a ... Born in Texas in 1890 and raised in Kansas to a family that valued education, Eisenhower began a long career as a leader and military officer upon his graduation in 1915 from West Point. Eisenhower is recognized for his leadership and oratorical skills which he applied to both military endeavors and managing the nation. Eisenhower s diction was appropriate for his audience; though he used some jargon, the members were able to understand because of their level of knowledge. His appeals, mostly to pathos and ethos, were effective. He established ethos by addressing the meeting with France and Great Britain, and through his position as President. Eisenhower s use of rhetoric allowed his audience to be receptive to his argument. In Eisenhower s introduction he does not construct the reality and frame the question effectively. He does not make his purpose clear in his introduction either. Even though in the first paragraph Dwight mentions that his speech will be about the issues of society today, he does not mention those issues much farther in the text. The structure of his arguments contribute to his persuasion. Eisenhower would begin by telling the audience what the issues at hand are, then would say his solution to each problem. For example, around the 21st paragraph, Eisenhower uses a first, second and finally method. In those, he states some issues such as, the knowledge now possessed by several nations will eventually be shared by others possibly all others. Then Dwight goes to suggest the solution or solutions to the previously stated problems. Also, throughout the piece, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In that global division of Africa and Arab Countries, both Ethiopia and the Gulf Arab Countries was strong adherent with the capitalist block. Both enjoyed American and West European political patronage and protection. Thus imperial Ethiopia and the Gulf Arab Countries were partners against the spread of socialist and radical political ideas in this part of the world (Hoynes 1993). Surprisingly, their strong and pro capitalist political alliance did not led to significant involvement of the rich Gulf Arab Countries in Ethiopian economic development during the rule of Emperor Haile Sillassie. We are not very sure about the rate of involvement Gulf Arab countries in other African Countries during the same period. But it is still very curious to know the reasons for complete absence of GCC Arab Countries investment in the Imperial Ethiopia. One may assume that the political crisis that erupted after formal abolition of the federal status of Eritrea in 1962 ignited resentment and anger in the Arab World including the Gulf Arab Countries (Bahru, 1991). The Eritrean Federal status, prescribed by the UN General Assembly provided that Arabic would be the second official language Muslims of Eritrea would enjoy full fleshed equality in both cultural and political terms. Thus the abolition of the Federal status could evoke anger and frustration in Eritrea and the neighboring Muslim Arab World. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Water Pollution Is A Problem That Effects All Living Things Water pollution is a problem that effects all living things. Every living organism on the earth needs water to survive. When the water is polluted, it not only effects the plants and animals, it harms people. Taking care of this planet s water is very important to the short term and long term survival of living things. The oceans are constantly being polluted by individuals and many industries. These waters must be cleaned up before the costs are too great and the damages beyond repair. Action to clean up the Earth s water supply is long overdue. People in all countries must begin to take action. Plans must be made to get rid of water pollution and prevent any further destruction of the only source of water that the earth has. The actions taken will not only make the planet safer and cleaner for now, but for generations to come. For years, the world has thought the oceans are much too big to be effected by human action. The idea that the ocean is indestructible has met its end. Peter Weber, a Research Associate at the World Watch Institute says, Today, with technologies that allow us to penetrate the salt water depths, we have discovered that despite their size and imperturbable appearance, the oceans are vulnerable to the same unsustainable trends that are degrading the terrestrial environment. • 15. The Banking Concept Of Education By Paulo Freire According to Paulo Freire in The Banking Concept of Education, the narrative nature of the teacher student correspondence is toxic and counterproductive in any form (Freire 259). To capture this idea, Freire makes education synonymous with a teacher making deposits into the mind of a student, but the scope of action allowed to the students extends only as far as receiving, filing, and storing the deposits (Freire 260). Therefore, interpretation and creativity are commodities that do not reach the surface of a student s work or thoughts. A personal example of such a loss in experience comes directly from my freshman high school English class, and said experience strongly represents a banking atmosphere. In contrast, a problem posing classroom would inspire original thought and energetic conversation. All in all, the teacher student relationship is a critical focal point in terms of whether or not a classroom is successful. Paulo Freire recognizes the practice of roles that mirror oppressive society by noting the overwhelming social acceptance that the teacher is the Subject of the learning process, while the pupils are mere objects , utterly halting any sort of independent or creative thinking from a student (Freire 261). Suddenly, the outlook of having no dialogue between a teacher and student, only opinionated information transference, eliminates the possibility for innovation. While this happens at the current rate, our world begins to warm and the climates begin to change. One of the largest impacts we see in our world is glaciers retreating at a pace that seems unstoppable. As the glaciers retreat we see the surrounding ecosystems changing with them. The water put off into the oceans impacts not only molecules in the water but the life within it. As glaciers retreat more and more questions arise but one pressing factor is how it is affecting entire surrounding regions. It is questionable to see if some species are adapting to the receding of glaciers or if populations are directly impacted. Since glaciers play a huge role in the environment, it can only be predicted that it will impact many species dramatically. This can be predicted because of the noticeable change in the ecosystems around them. Glaciers hold a huge mass that not only covers large areas of land but shapes and changes the landscape. After an exhausting day, he accidentally encountered a lovely stream full of peach trees on the shores. He followed the trace of the water, and entered an extremely narrow cave. Yet, when he eventually walked through the tunnel, the scene he saw stunned him: After walking another twenty or thirty paces, he suddenly exited onto an open clearing. The land became flat and broad. Houses were neatly arranged in rows. There were fertile fields, beautiful ponds, mulberry trees, bamboo groves and the like. Pathways crisscrossed the fields, and one could hear the intermingled sounds of chickens and dogs. There were people walking back and forth, busying themselves with planting crops. The clothing of the men and women was unlike anything he had ever seen. Old and young alike seemed happy and contented. • 19. Civic Engagement Initiative The Civic Engagement Initiative The focal point of current educational trend in the United States is on preparing the leaders of tomorrow (National Task Force, 2012). Student success has been expanded to include civic responsibility which is a dimension of the college experience largely ignored until recently (Upcraft, Gardner, Barefoot, 2005). The Department of Education has taken this charge and developed the National Task Force for Democratic and Civic Engagement. This initiative places developing civic responsibility as a national priority based on the tendency of young people who are often too caught up in narrow collegiate worlds of their own existence to understand the larger role of being a contributing member of society (Upcraft, Barefoot Gardner, 2005). Thus, engagement as a participating citizen living in community is frequently beyond the scope of young student leaders in college. Due to this, the government has renewed its interest in creating civic minded young people prepared to advocate for change. This has led the charge for a civic engagement initiative nationwide. With civic engagement development being initiated nationwide, we must attempt to understand citizenship in today s world. Citizenship is often a misunderstood concept. ... In the novel, The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, she teaches how certain individuals in a Chinese household lives and a few of their beliefs. To begin, there are many Chinese superstitions that are not commonly known. For example, when the mothers and daughters all had dinner together on New Year day, everyone picked the best quality crab, but June Woo picked the one that was missing a leg. However, her mother, Suyuan, takes it from her to give her a better one and says, a missing leg is a bad sign on a Chinese New Year (Tan 225). • 23. Criminal Justice System In 12 Angry Men Many important topics and integral information that is an essential part in the criminal justice system have been introduced in the play 12 Angry Men . Some examples of this would be crime and justice including the laws, criminal behavior, victimization, and the criminal justice system in itself. These issues are everyday situations but many people have been oblivious to the problem. The twelve jurors have an assignment where they will have to decide whether or not the young man on trial is guilty of murdering his father or is innocent beyond a reasonable doubt. All twelve men are frustrated and lack patience which lead them to be contumacious and unfocused. Their distraction led to many key facts getting misemployed and emotions start to cross making it hard for the jurors to construct a resolution. They have been oblivious to the effect that it would have on the community itself. On the information given up to this point this process essay will articulate the unenlightenment and egomaniacal principles of the twelve men in the short story and movie Twelve Angry Men written by Reginald Rose and directed by Sidney Lumet. Both Lumet and Rose showed their point of views of the criminal justice system in the play and the movie. Although the director s view on the justice system demonstrated the rights that everyone had, it also revealed his thoughts on how the justice system is corrupt, ineffective and unjust because all these aspects have shown the major differences in the morality of the twelve individuals and the problem at hand in the movie and play 12 Angry Men . The movie 12 Angry Men denotes how the most seemingly trivial facts and evidence can affect the aftermath in a brobdingnagian way if not processed thoroughly. In the movie you have twelve jurors, all from different backgrounds and with different personalities. But one wise and optimistic juror speaks his opinion, one that doesn t make a big difference in the beginning but opens the minds of the other eleven jurors as time goes by. He expresses the facts and evidence that was discussed during the young man s trial. He had said I want to try this thing. Let me see how long it took him. I m going to pace off twelve feet... . • 25. What Is Crocs Competitive Advantage Crocs Strategy for Competitive Advantage With revenue from Crocs shoe sales reaching to $680 million in 2007, it is clear that the company has developed a successful strategy. Not all of the success can be contributed to the design of the product. Although their products were in high demand, there are more underlying factors that have paved the way for Crocs to be competitive in the shoe market. Crocs supply chain design and use of vertical integration revolutionized speed and quality of order fulfillment. Traditionally, the shoe industry was seasonal and based on projections of future trends. Retail stores would need to place orders several months before the shoes would even hit the shelves. As orders were made early in the year, manufacturers would begin production for shipment later in the year. Since inventory supply depended on expected sales, stock could not be quickly replenished as it ran out. The executives at Crocs decided to branch out from the traditional production schedules and develop a lean production model. As sales increased or decreased, Crocs managed to speed up and slow down production throughout the year to quickly replenish depleted inventory. Since the shoes were easily made with the foam mold design, rapid production and order fulfillment came easily for Crocs. This approach attracted the attention of many footwear retailers. With Crocs shoes being made to order, stores could more easily control inventory without worrying about a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Previously, the national security briefings have alerted you to the general concerns in Cuba. Now, we need to bring to your attention to the bigger issue of Cuba s Prime Minister Fidel Castro s forceful move towards direct communism rule by strengthening his ties with the Soviet Union and Red China. The threat of communism neighboring our southern border is real. Castro s immediate rise to power in Cuba was bothersome and concerning to the United States from the beginning. Although we were suspicious of his intentions, we were initially hopeful that the overthrow of Former Cuban President Fulgencio Batista would bring positive changes to Cuba and her people. But, Castro has shown us through his extreme socialist policies that he aligns more with communist policies. With the use of his Revolutionary Forces, he has gained full control of the Cuban Government, including operations, law enforcement, utilities, labor unions, news outlets, and financial institutions. From a humanitarian crisis aspect of governing, Castro is currently carrying out death trials and mass executions. Supporting Interactive System Testing with Interaction Sequences Jessica Turner Faculty of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, University of Waikato August 13, 2015 1 Research Topic An interactive system is a piece of software or a device which requires human input. It consists of a user interface which the user interacts with to access the underlying functions, described formally in code. This allows the user to easily manipulate the system in order to complete some task. An important subset of interactive systems is safety critical interactive systems (a system in which errors can lead to injury or even death to the user). Unfortunately, the testing of these systems is currently inadequate, resulting in serious harm or even fatalities (see [1] [2]). A test is de ned in the Oxford Dictionary as: A procedure intended to establish the quality, performance, or reliability of something, especially before it is taken into widespread use ; [3]. The purpose of interactive system testing is not only to ensure that the system does what it is expected to, but also to identify problems within the current version of the system. The resolution of these problems will help to establish the quality, performance and/or reliability [3] of the system and help to avoid future incidents. In this research we propose using interaction sequences as an abstraction of the system under test to support the testing process. An interaction sequence is the series of steps a user can take to perform a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

INTRODUCTION Descartes Meditations on First Philosophy (1641) is generally considered to be the starting point of Western Philosophy. SUMMARY OF THE MEDIATIONS On of the most lasting and notable legacies of Descartes philosophy is mind body dualism, which may interpreted simply as distinction of mind and body. Descartes argues that the nature of mind that may be understood as thinking, doubting, willing ( thinking thing ) is totally distinguished from the body nature ( non thinking thing ). It is necessary to identify that Descartes uses the concept of mind to refer to the consciousness, thinking self. The Second Mediations is subtitled by The nature of human mind and how its better known than the body proves that thinking thing , ability of thinking and arguing is the only true faculty. This argument derives from the end of the First Mediation, where he turns all knowledge into questions and it s impossible to be certain of anything. Every year, thousands of people are released from jail or prison. Most people who are incarcerated today will eventually be released. Most of these individuals return to a life of freedom without the skills they need to survive. Recidivism rates suggest that many of these individuals will re offend within six months of release, and most will reoffend within three years. This is not because they re bad people; it s because they are trying to thrive in a system that sets them up to fail. Given grim post release arrest rates, it s hard to understand why our government is not doing more to help those transitioning from incarceration to life on the outside. It doesn t make sense for taxpayer dollars to go towards incarcerating people over and over it seems that the money could be better spent improving rehabilitation programs for inmates. Increased funding for programs aimed at helping former inmates transition to life on the outside would likely lead to better outcomes for those individuals, fewer crimes being committed, and lower recidivism rates. To a certain extent within Source 4 (by J.J. Scarisbrick 1968) supports the idea that possibly Henry VIII actually did surrender power over to Wolsey. The evidence within the source that suggests this possibly for being the truth is a self indulgent King had wholly surrendered the cares of the state into the Cardinals hands . To further support this case, it is clear that Wolsey was extremely powerful, he had vast amounts of bishoprics (Archbishop of Canterbury, Tournai, Durham just to name a few) and was the head of things such as the Star Chamber where Wolsey got himself heavily involved with. This is shown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Source 5 written in 1994 by John Lotherington, appears to disagree with that of the view of source 4. In parts it appears to actually agree with source 4, Wolsey held a dominant position in government and controlled the distribution of patronage but then the source continues to say, And of course the ultimate source of all power was the King . This quote can be proven true with examples of Henry preventing Wolsey from doing something, such as in 1523 when Wolsey launched a sea attack upon the French without the kings permission, this led to Wolsey having to apologize for his actions. This shows that Henry still had control over Wolsey and that he couldn t get away with something so easily. Also even though source 4 claims that Wolsey had very strong control, that even with this power he couldn t prevent such things like The Amicable Grant of 1525 from being a disaster, and without aids from The Dukes of Norfolk and Suffolk it could have been an even more disastrous, this proves Henry was more in control than Wolsey because the Dukes only subdued the rebellions on Henry s behalf, not Wolsey s. This is showing how Henry had not wholly surrendered his government power, and could still contest Wolsey s decisions and problems. The source was also written in 1994, therefore the historians view is likely to be more factual rather than written in the period and being more biased, as can be the case, especially if that figure in ... • 41. Internal Audit Introduction This report aims to investigate the role Internal Auditors (IA) plays in certain aspects of corporate governance. The report also aims to investigate what is considered as good corporate governance. Corporate governance is the system by which companies are directed and controlled. It deals largely with the relationship between the constituent parts of a company the directors, the board (and its sub committees) and the shareholders (Berr, 2008) Corporate governance is necessary because of the problems caused by the divorce of ownership and control in modern organisations. In order to protect the stakeholders of an organisation, regulators addressed the problem by introducing corporate governance frameworks that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 43. Michael Porter’s Generic Strategies Michael Porter s Generic Strategies According to Porter, strategies allow organizations to gain competitive advantage from three different bases: cost leadership, differentiation and focus. Porter calls these bases as generic strategies. Cost leadership emphasizes producing standardized products at a very low per unit cost for consumers who are price sensitive. Differentiation is a strategy aimed at producing products and services considered unique industry wide and directed at customers who are relatively price insensitive. Focus means producing products and services that fulfill the needs of small groups of customers (niche market). When we consider competitiveness, the following questions are raised: 1. Should we compete on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some companies which have successfully followed this strategy are: Wal Mart, Southwest Airlines, Timex, Black Decker, Mc Donald s etc. A successful cost leadership strategy usually provides the entire firm with high efficiency, low overhead, limited perks, intolerance of waste, intensive screening of budget requests, and wide span of control efforts. However, some risks of pursuing this strategy are that competitors might imitate the strategy, thus, driving overall industry profits down; that technology breakthroughs in the industry may make the strategy ineffective; or that buyer s interest may swing to other differentiating features besides price. Firms that succeed in cost leadership often have the following internal strengths: Access to the capital required to make a significant investment in production assets; this investment represents a barrier to entry that many firms may not overcome. Skill in designing products for efficient manufacturing, for example, having a small component count to shorten the assembly process. High level of expertise in manufacturing process engineering. Efficient distribution channels. Its high market share means that it will have high bargaining power relative to its suppliers and its low price will also serve as a barrier to entry. Differentiation Strategies It is aimed at the broad mass market and involves the creation of a product or service that is perceived unique throughout the industry. The company or ... • 44. Keystone Vacation Rayce Ruffing Today we arrived in Keystone, Colorado for a week of skiing and relaxation. For this trip, we choose to stay at the slope side condominium the Lone Eagle Lodge. These Condos are situated on the other side of the ski trail River Run from the Base area and village. This location gives great access to the Summit Express 6 person chair lift and the River Run 8 person Gondola. The only down side about this location is the distance from the village, the only way to access it is to walk the quarter mile across the snow covered River Run bridge. In the Spring the snow on this bridge is very soft and wet so be sure to wear your snow boots if you plan to check out the village after a day on the slopes. As for the Condominium itself, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although it is a bit of a trip to get there the Outback has some of the best skiing on the mountain. The Runs serviced by the Outback express lift are mostly Blacks, with a few Blues this deters the novice skiers from making the trek and gives the more advanced skiers shorter lift lines, and steep open runs to carve down, without the stress of slower skiers crowding the run. In addition to the fantastic cut runs, the Outback offers the best tree skiing on the mountain. The resort does a great job of maintaining the growth in this part of the mountain by cutting the smaller trees and trimming the larger ones this creates perfect tree skiing because of the added space between trees it allows the skiers to carry a bit more speed with confidence and cruise through the trees with ease. This peak also offers the best views on the mountain, you can even see Breckenridge from across the valley. My Personal favorite park about the Outback is the Cat skiing. For a $5 fee, you can get a ride in a snow cat up above the lift serviced runs to the South Bowl. This is huge bowl is above the tree line gives you a unique experience to ski great snow so high up. There is even a possibility to find some untouched powder stash from the past snowstorms. We spent all day in the Outback and barely explored half of it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Benjamin Franklin s Autobiography Benjamin Franklin is an iconic figure in history, primarily for his many inventions. Franklin also wrote an autobiography about his life, there is a difference between a biography and an autobiography. Biographies are written by someone who is writing about another person s life. An autobiography, on the other hand, is a person writing about their own life. Usually in an autobiography, the writer will talk about his or her life, including their childhood, family, and schooling. The writer will also usually talk about their parents, and their marriage. Benjamin Franklin s autobiography is very different, he starts off by saying dear son , which leads the reader to believe that it is a normal autobiography. Once you read about two more paragraphs in the book, it is clear that it is not a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also briefly talks about his childhood life, but even then he still talks about how good he was and how his friends respected him so much. Franklin also very briefly writes how he met the love of his life in Philadelphia, then he doesn t really write much about dating the love of his life, which you would think being an autobiography he would talk more about her. When the Governor of Philadelphia wanted Franklin to go to London for starting a printing business he basically told his love to marry another (Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin). Franklin s autobiography tells about his many great accomplishments but very little about his personal life. When he does talk about his personal life though, he always makes sure that even when he describes one of his family members or a childhood memory Franklin writes about how good he was. Franklin also likes to portray himself as the icon of the American dream, for example, Franklin emphasizes how vital it is for creditors to support fledgling entrepreneurs; and so these stories illustrate, by implication, the importance of the reader s willingness to credit Franklin s representations of the American experience ( Vassar ...
