Chicago Gangs and History Essay
Chicago Gangs, Then and Now with Solutions Nick Crot Marist High School Abstract This paper deals with gang
violence in the city of Chicago since the beginning of time. It takes a deep look into the history of Chicago gangs and
how they interact today. Also the past problems the City of Chicago made when dealing with gangs and the problems
that gangs today have and how Chicago has the worst gang problem in the country. Also how gangs have turned
themselves into big, and lucrative enterprises most known for money. Also stated are possible solutions to stop or
reduce violence of the gangs that all start off with teaching the young kids about gangs and gang prevention. Chicago

Gangs reorganized and many combined their gangs into one bigger enterprise. Gangs were mostly run from prisons
during the 1970 s and on (Brief outline); therefore one could not escape the gangs. Gangs shaped Chicago early on.
Gentrification is displacing gangs and causing turf wars. Gentrification and the tearing down of public housing in
Chicago left many gangs homeless (Brief outline). Due to this, gangs battle over land and housing, known as turf wars.
The violence rises, along with the number of deaths. Therefore police attempt to limit the gangs, but that also leads to
fighting and violence with police. The whole cycle involves violence and is vicious. Chicago has the biggest gang
problem in the country (Thomas Bass, 2009). There are more gang members per citizen in Chicago than anywhere else
in the country (Thomas, 2009, para 4). The average Chicago gang leader is 43, convicted of murder and lives in the
suburbs. That leader on many occasions directs his gang from jail (Main, 2006) and 95 percent of inmates in the Cook
County Jail are gang members (Thomas, 2009). Gangs are everywhere today just like they use to be. The high number
of gangs causes violence and deaths to rise in Chicago. Gangs have morphed from social organizations into full
fledged criminal enterprises (Thomas, 2009, para 5). Gangs are highly sophisticated and more dangerous then ever.
The number one reason to join a gang is money; and 95 percent of gangs profit comes from drug dealing

Student Doctor Website Analysis
Every year, over fifty thousand students apply to medical schools throughout the United States and Puerto Rico with
the goal of becoming a physician. Yet, the application process and the do s and don t s are often convoluted on what
will be best for each individual student; so students have turned to mentors that have gone through the process to aid
them through. Started in 1999, the internet based forum site Student Doctor Network serves as a base for students
interested in medicine, from high school through practicing physicians, to ask questions, gain multiple opinions,
examine medical data and resources, and share their experience to enable the next generation of physicians.

medical provider. He explored several news articles, forums and even completed the application assistant to determine
his chances for getting into medical school. While the algorithm stated that he had little chance of being accepted, he
did find it easy to navigate the site, especially since the overhead banners those leading to forums or news archives
displayed the exact site where he would want to go. He was glad that it took one click to see information instead of
multiple clicks in many different places to get to where you want to go.
New vs. Old Comparison
Given that we both find the site simple and easy to use, the main difference was direction and purpose. When I visit the
site, I go straight for whatever information I am looking for or to a general forum to browse the current topics. With the
case of my friend, he wandered through the site and skimmed a forum or article that caught his eye. With this
information, I can easily define the Student Doctor Network as a useable, but highly specialized site for budding
medical professionals.

Police Brutality And Its Effects
Police brutality is a phenomena that is documented throughout a myriad of societies from Russia, China, Indonesia,
Palestine, Egypt to the United States. Police brutality is the use of force which exceeds what is needed in order to
accomplish a legal police purpose.Throughout America s history, minorities, specifically Black people, have been the
disproportionate target of police brutality. Amnesty International has documented several examples of police brutality,
including instances of beatings, unjustified shootings, and excessively forceful detention methods which merit concern
(Amnesty 1999).The pervasiveness of police shootings of citizens has been widely publicized in the media and stresses
the fact that this is a national problem. While these occurrences are relatively infrequent the lack of any solution or
way to minimize brutality has been an ongoing criticism by citizens and others of the United States police force. The
term excessive force is utilized frequently, although there is no concrete definition of this term as it is subjective
(Police Use of Excessive Force in Minority Communities). The use of force is either appropriate or excessive
depending on if the use of force is necessary and justified for the officer to complete his job (Police Use of Excessive
Force in Minority Communities). The use of deadly force is justified by law if the officer feels he or others are under
imminent threat. There are many high profile cases of the use of excessive and

framework set up intended to secure my data, essential nonreplaceable records, and oral discussions between
attendants, specialists and so forth that should only be between us. I am thankful that all HIPAA covered entities must
comply with the Security Rule and all of this also include health plans and a majority of healthcare providers, medical

Developing A Specialized Not For Profit Advocacy Group
Our solution is to develop a specialized not for profit advocacy group, which focuses on policy change and bridging
the gap between local government, non profits, and the federal government. Furthermore, we will fill the void within
these entities with additional resources. Our group will be composed of a full time paid staff, a board of specialized
individuals (ex. Lawyers, professors, government officials), and a network of community volunteers. Our staff will
handle the day to day operations necessary for an efficiently run business, while our board of specialized individuals
will donate their time/services for tasks outside the capabilities of staff members (on an as needed basis). The group of
community volunteers will be a tremendous asset to the advocacy group, by providing services to those facing
hardship from unemployment. Regardless of a person s position, paid or unpaid, each member of our advocacy group
will work as partners of the organization. It will function as a democratic body, as opposed to the bureaucratic structure
mostly seen in government and nonprofit agencies. Our advocacy group focuses on 3 aspects to aid in reducing
unemployment 1) Implantation of resources for the general unemployment population; 2) Acting as the middleman
between government and the private sector services; 3) Policy Reform. Newark has many nonprofits that assist with
career services, job matching, and training, however they are specialized for particular groups of people. The

Setting Clear Boundaries in the Social Work Field
Setting Clear Boundaries In Social Work Many individuals opt for the field of social work so that others may grow and
improve their way of life and have a stable living style. However, while providing this sort of help to the clients, it is
important that social workers are aware of their ethical boundaries and have communicated this to their clients as well.
Setting and maintain clear boundaries is a very important part of every profession. As far as social work is concerned
where the worker directly influences the lives of his clients, this practice becomes more important as it has a direct
impact on ones professional integrity. Where we see number of complaints filed against the social workers for breach
of ethical boundaries, it is important to understand what these limitations are and how to adhere to them. In order to
understand the concept of setting clear boundaries, let s have a look at what Dietz and Thompson said about it. As per
them, The concern about appropriate boundaries is, at least in part, a concern about the effects of the power differential
between client and professional. It is primarily a concern about boundary violations (Dietz and Thompson, 2004, p. 2).
In addition to it, it is important to realize that boundaries provide us safer connections based on the needs of clients we
are dealing with (Peterson, 1992, p. 74). Now that we are aware of what boundaries really are, it is also vitally
significant about what constitutes a breach and how

Market Research Methods For Business
Market research methods in business
Primary research is data that is gathered first hand from an original source, and has not been collected before. It often
involves going out and asking people for information, hence its alternative name field research.
Observational research involves watching and observing people s activities. For example, businesses use cookies on
their websites in order to track what pages users are visiting on their website. By using cookies, businesses will be able
to know what pages are most popular among users on their website. Information collected through cookies can also
help businesses improve marketing and their website. Experimental research is when an investigation or test is
conducted in order to discover new opportunities which can help to maximise revenues for a business. This could be
done by aiming their product at a different demographic e.g. elderly people and modifying (or experimenting with)
their product to make it more appealing to that demographic. Surveys involve asking people questions in order to
collect information about what people think about something. This can be done face to face, by telephone, by post and
online too.
E marketing research involves using the internet to contact and interact with consumers about a businesses product(s).
Examples of e marketing include online surveys and cookies (as mentioned before). A focus group is a research
method in which a small group of people are asked to give their opinions and

Bystander Effect Essay
Research Summary
My article was Darley s and Latane s, Bystander Intervention in Emergencies: Diffusion of Responsibility. They
conducted this study to figure out how would people react in various group sizes in an emergency situation. As well as
which one those individuals in different size groups would go and call for help. The concept of this was taken from the
famous case of Kitty Genovese, who was stabbed to death multiple times and finally was killed in her own
neighborhood and no one intervened. This is known to be the bystander effect. However, in this research experiment,
people were either in groups of 2, 3, or 6 and then they would overhear the person having an epileptic seizure. It was
predicted that due to the presence of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The person who was having the seizure specifically requested help and showed that he thought he was dying.
There were a few differences on this base research experiment. To begin with, there were various group sizes in
various instances. For instance, there were either groups of two, three, and six people. There was only one actual
participant per group, while the rest were part of the experiment. This was the independent variable. It was intended to
test if the number of individuals would diffuse the duty given in a crisis circumstance. In addition to that, various types
of individuals took part in this study. Different genders and authority figure was presented. This person was a
premedical student working at the emergency ward at Bellevue Hospital. Initially, it was meant to find any distinction
in different genders responding. Also, it was intended to figure out if the presence of an authority figure would affect
the participant s response if they were to assume that the medical student would take charge in a crisis situation.
Furthermore, the dependent variable was the speed of the individuals reporting the emergency of someone having a
seizure to the experimenter. The experiment was terminated if individuals did not seek assistance for the seizure victim
within six minutes. Thus, this research was conducted in a correlational fashion. Then the true essence of the
experiment was revealed. Then

In our daily, our grandmother and mother usually tell children for many legendary folk tales to sleep well at night. For

Love are many rattling good stories in Vietnamese folklore. However, Love Story Of My Chau And Trong Thuy is the
best folktale I have ever heard since I was a child. It is involved in the important and true historical event in Vietnam.
An Duong Vuong a king of Au Lac nation, who built Co Loa citadel, was helped by saint Kim Qui. Then, the saint
took him one of his claws to make a crossbow to protect the citadel from enemies. Because the crossbow was very
magic, every arrow was shot from it to hit a thousand of enemies at the same time. After a long time, Cao Lo, who was
one of the mandarin s household butlers, was the most skilful crossbow maker in the country. He was chosen by the
king to be in charge of the heavy responsibility. Nevertheless, athletes are only suited to use this kind of weapon. The
crossbow was extremely treasured by the kings, so it was hung in his bedroom. At the time, Trieu Da, the governor of a
country adjoining Au Lac at the north, had been failed in occupying his neighbouring nation for many times.

Analysis Of The Opening Scene Of Macbeth
Location: A forest or hill in Scotland
General Summary: The three witches meet on a stormy night out in the open country to discuss when they should meet
with Macbeth.
Analysis:
The opening scene of Macbeth is super short but it introduces the 3 most influential characters of the play.
The witches presence in the play is very small but they remain a constant and a powerful beings throughout.
This first scene establishes the witches connection to Macbeth. It makes the reader curious to discover who he is and
also what is the hurlyburly (I, i, 3) that the witches discussed.
Shakespeare creates dramatic irony, in that he informs the reader that Macbeth does not have and will never have
throughout the play a free action. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The fact that they have familiars is enough to secure the reader s impression of them as witches.
Central Questions:
Why does Shakespeare open the play with the witches, rather than Macbeth?
How does this effect the first scene of the play?
What impressions can I as a reader take away from this? What effect does the way the witches speak create?
Act I, Scene ii
Location: A soldier s camp
General Summary: King Duncan and his three sons are introduced. King Duncan hears from several soldiers of
Macbeth s bravery in battle and decides to make Macbeth Thane of Cawdor.
Analysis:
As the scene opens, the royal family meet a wounded officer and ask him for news of the battle.
Macbeth killed Macdonald.
The reader learns that Macbeth is related to King Duncan.
O valiant cousin! Worthy gentleman! (I, ii, 24). At this point, Macbeth is held in high regard by Duncan.
Macbeth won against the attack of the Norwegian King.
The Thane of Cawdor has betrayed Duncan by fighting on the Norwegian side.
Characterisation: Macbeth is portrayed as a brave and loyal soldier. Duncan decides that the Thane of Cawdor should

The Tone Of August Wilson
The tone that August Wilson uses is an approachable and lofty blend at the same time. To begin with the protagonist of
fences, Troy is a mindful man whose dreams are obstructed, this makes him have confidence in self made fantasies.
The play first begins with an entertaining story about his struggle with a personified Death character.
In addition to this Troy has the ability to live in a fictitious world, denying his affair with Alberta. Troy instigates
conflict as a result of his ability to believe in self made illusions and his inability to acknowledge other s decisions in
life when they vary from Troy s own philosophy. Troy s name symbolically exhibits Troy s character as one who lives
on a line between two contradicting thoughts. Troy Maxson begins the play loved, admired and getting away with his
secret affair. Yet, inevitably, Troy s death leaves many negative characteristics as a legacy for his family to deal with
and acknowledge.
Although this may be true, the setting is set in the dirt yard of the Maxson house. All this seems notable that the
Maxson s aren t the richest people in town. Clearly, the set remind us that money is a constant concern for Troy and his
family. They relay in Troy s salary as garbage collector.
Furthermore, we see that August Wilson did name his play Fences because of the dramatic action depends strongly on
the building of a fence in the Maxson s backyard. The character s lives change around the fence which serves as both a

Analysis Of Sudden Shower Over Shin-Ohashi Bridge And Atake
Japan is often recognized as a land of peace, beauty, and diverse landscapes and climates that cannot be witnessed
anywhere else on the planet. A majority of Japanese citizens practice Shintoism, a polytheistic religion whose gods
exist within plants and animals. Because of this, an appreciation for nature is ingrained deep into the foundation of
Japan s values. This can be seen throughout the country s entire history; much of its art and poetry has been focused
solely on its natural beauty. Sudden Shower Over Shin Ohashi Bridge and Atake is a famous Japanese woodblock print
by Utagawa Hiroshige published in 1857, one of many that shows an appreciation for Japan s beautiful landscapes. The
print belongs the ukiyo e genre that emerged between the 17th and 19th century. Ukiyo e literally translates to pictures
of the floating world and the style dominated the art of Japan s Edo Period. What began as a reflection of Japan s
indulgent and hedonistic culture, portraying subjects like beautiful women and extravagant scenes from the Kabuki
theater, gradually transitioned into capturing landscapes and the lives of average people. Hiroshige was one of the
pioneers of this transition with his famed One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, a 119 piece series that features
celebrated landscapes in his hometown of Edo, known as Tokyo today, and his last great success before his death.
Sudden Shower Over Shin Ohashi Bridge and Atake is one of the pieces that belong to his series.

1. Market segmentation is the selection of groups of people who will be most receptive to a product. The most frequent
methods of segmenting include:
Demographic variables such as: age, sex, race, income, occupation, education and household status.
Psychographic variables such as: lifestyle, activities, personality and social class.
Behavioural variables such as: product benefits and product use patterns.
Geographic variables such as: climate, country or region and the size of the area in terms of people that live in it.
Much segmentation involves a combination of these methods.

There would then be a heavy marketing push towards that sport using its new superstar and would lead to more people
taking up the sport and buying the footwear designed for it. Also a new feature designed and successfully marketed by

or a new space age material that enhances performance . Such products would be ground breaking but they would also
command a high price and therefore only elite athletes and the rich would be able to afford them. Another example of a
new segment would be if for example a country s economy rapidly improved and its citizens became increasingly able
to afford Nike shoes. Although highly unlikely, this would create a whole new market for Nike to enter into.
3. Organizations in the footwear market aim to segment consumer groups to enable them to identify different types of
consumer groups they are involved with. The main segment variables according to Kotler and Armstrong, 2001, are the
geography, demography, psychography and behaviour of the customer. By establishing these variables and the finer
details of these, Organizations, such as Nike, can manufacture goods to the consumer s taste.
Initially, the geography is taken into account this particular variable covers what kind of country a customer is in, the

Social Media And Its Impact On Buying Habits, Schooling,...
When I really think about social media has now made a substantial impact on buying habits, schooling, and
relationships. However, networking through social media plays a larger role in human lives than one may realize.
When I hear the statement everyone is a result of his or her surroundings has verified to be correct when discussing the
effect of social media and web sharing. It is truly amazing to see that scientists have proposed that most social
networks mainly upkeep current social relationships. Facebook, for instance, has demonstrated that there is some
certainty to that suggestion. The aim of Facebook is to uphold current offline associations or solidify offline relations,
rather than meeting different individuals. While, the idea for social networks was to be widely obtainable, it is not
uncommon to discover groups exhausting the sites to distant themselves by ethnic groups, schooling level, stage of
development, etc. When connecting social media to our average lives; from what we consume, to the way we sense is

Anne Moody and the Black Panthers Essay
During the 1960s, many Black Americans drew attention to the inequalities among races in society. Protest groups
formed and demonstrations highlighting discrimination towards dark people were a common practice for civil rights
activists. Some activists believed non violence was the only way to overcome, and others, such as Anne Moody and the
Black Panthers, had a more aggressive attitude towards gaining freedom. In her autobiography, The Coming of Age in
Mississippi, Anne Moody describes the hardships of growing up in the heavily racist South, and displays the price you

same educational opportunities as White children, and thought that Blacks could only progress by being taught the true
history of Black oppression in the U.S. They demanded that Black Americans have jobs that paid the same wages as
Whites and weren t limited to labor intensive positions. The party also felt that the police force instigated more conflict
and violence than protection, and believed they needed to provide security for Blacks by themselves. Although they
were known for using gun power when necessary, the Panthers envisioned a peaceful society under a just government
where all races could live together. Simply put, the Black Panthers felt the United States government was not allowing
Black Americans to the live in the land of equal opportunity, but rather denying them the freedoms and liberties
constitutionally entitled to them. The Black Panthers wanted African Americans to be able to determine their destiny.

The following paper is about a group of employees working for a company moving from a manual timekeeping system
to an electronic timekeeping system. These staff members are resisting the new electronic timekeeping system, and
have a bad attitude on this subject, not understanding why there has to be changes in the system they are currently

electronic timekeeping system.
There are three basic methods of training that can be used to get the employees onboard with the new electronic

Language Teaching Case Study
INTRODUCTION
Teaching a second language has constantly been a challenge and a topic of many elaborative discussions in the field of
language teaching. There have been different trends in language teaching which led to the introduction of different
language teaching approaches. Whereupon, language teaching theorists and second language teaching practitioners
have found those to be stimulus with many practical issues and shortcomings in terms of mastering the target language
among the second language learners. Each method focused on key set of learning outcomes and defined the position or
the role of the teacher accordingly. In contrast, linguists of eras following introduced their own mechanisms in

The Trafficking Of Smuggling Drugs
Smuggling Drugs in Airports
Over the recent past, there has been major growth in illegal trafficking of humans, firearms and most importantly drugs
(UN, 2012). These kinds of trafficking are characterized by greater organisation levels. They are also denoted by the
presence of criminal groups and chains. Though these activities are not new, both the geographic area and scale of the
present problem is unprecedented. The value of illegal trade in 2009 throughout the world was about $1.3 trillion
(Jenner, 2010). Drug smuggling is a major concern wherein it has major adverse effects due to the large illegal profits
it produces (Jenner, 2010). In different drug production regions and transit areas, criminal groups disregard state
authority and exiting laws by promoting corruption, affecting the economy and compromising elections (UN, 2012).
Using the UK as a case in point, this paper describes drug smuggling, its development, and the effects, the challenges
for investigators and judicial processes and strategies to manage with the problem.
There is a large extent of drug smuggling in the UK (Richman, 2007). It was recently submitted that there were three
hundred importers into the United Kingdom, three thousand wholesalers and seventy thousand street dealers. The
security system in airports like Heathrow is complex and is characterized by different barriers: human, organisational

The complete elimination is impossible due to the prevalence of bacteria. Nevertheless, there are many preventative
measures that can minimize the rate of bacterial contaminations on foods.
First and foremost, personal hygiene is one of the most important factors in bacterial contamination. Farm workers, on
the one hand, can contaminate foods if they do not wash hands after use bathroom or make contact with foods after
contacted with non food substances. Food handlers or distributors can contaminate foods in the same way. People who
handle ready to eat (RTE) foods, especially, have to wear gloves to avoid any chance of contamination. Conversely, the
personal hygiene of consumers is of equal importance that foodborne illnesses can happen if a consumer does not wash
hands properly before eating or handle foods appropriately. For example, Penteado and others (2014) describe the
potential cross contamination for Salmonella spp. and Listeria monocytogenes from contaminated knives. The best
way is to wash hands frequently, especially right before meals, and handle or cook foods with sanitized utensils, in the
way as suggested by the products. Obviously, employees working with food handling or other relevant activities
should be trained in developing their knowledge about personal hygiene. Furthermore, strict supervision and

Moonlight Reflection
In the movie Moonlight, written and directed by Berry Jenkins, follows an introverted black boy named Chiron
through three pivotal stages in his life as he struggles to come to term with his sexuality. What made it even harder for
Chiron was living in a drug infested, poverty stricken environment filled with people who constantly remind him that
he is different. Throughout the three stories Chiron gets bullied through his childhood and high school years, causing
him to eventually snap into what his society wanted him to be.
In the opening scene of Part One, Chiron s childhood, there s a shot of little Chiron running as fast as he can away
from a group of boys who are chasing him through a field calling him a faggot. This really shows that the boys that
were chasing him think that it is not okay that Chiron is different compared to them. After being chased into an
abandoned apartment Chiron is introduced to Juan who eventually becomes somewhat of a role model for Chiron. The
reason Juan becomes such a role model is because he is the perfect example of how masculine a man should be.
Little gets picked on every day by almost everyone at his school except for his friend Kevin, who thinks that Chiron is
too soft and tries to toughen him up. The fact that Kevin, the one person who does not bully him still tells Chiron that
he needs to become tougher. This just shows how deeply rooted in Chiron s society that every man should be tough. In

Cancer Treatment Patients with cancer are in for a long course of treatment. A typical course of treatment involves
chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. After any of these treatments, it will not be safe for the patient to drive

treatment, the cancer patient s immune system is compromised. They aren t even supposed to consume raw eggs
because of the higher than normal risk of getting ill. This is no time to take the bus or even a cab. They need clean

Taking public transit exposes you to crowds, germs, the possibility of being injured, the possibility of getting lost and
other serious risks during a vulnerable time in your life. Neither of these options makes sense. If something goes
wrong, they can both lead to very serious problems. These serious problems can add up to much bigger expenses than
the cost of medical transportation. The cost of medical transportation can be though of as a small price to pay to protect
yourself from a long list of risks. It can buy you peace of mind and a better recovery. The value of that cannot be
overstated. When you are having such a serious health event, it makes no sense to cut corners. You need to do a cost
benefit analysis that looks at getting you the best possible outcome for a reasonable price, not what has the lowest
initial sticker price. At a time like this, trying to cut costs in a way that undermines your health and recovery process is
likely to be the most expensive answer in the long run. The cheapest solution will be the one that helps you recover
both well and rapidly, so you can get back in the game. For a great many people, medical transportation is part of that

Abstract
This paper analyzes the facts behind how developed countries are able to achieve strong currencies through the
exchange rate mechanisms as well as fiscal and monetary policies to ensure stability of the currency. It shows how the
exchange rate is affected through several factors such as inflation rate, interest rate, current account and etcetera.
On the other hand it analyzes how developing countries rather have weak and very unstable currency given the
methods above.
Introduction
In most of the cases developed countries (e.g Norway, England, united kingdom, Switzerland, etcetera) tend to have a
very strong currencies relative to the under developed or developing countries (e.g Mozambique, Rwanda, Angola, and
etcetera) and also have a good currency stabilization, this essay shall explain why that is the case.

Comparing Poe s The Masque Of The Red Death
The Masque of the Red Death, by Edgar Allen Poe, is a story of death and how it is impossible to escape. Though the
book and the 1964 movie were very different, they did portray the same message. In both, story and movie, Prince
Prospero throws a masquerade ball for all of his high class friends, to let all the others die out, and wait out the Red
Death. Though it always ends the same way, death. In Poe s short story, The Masque of the Red Death, he makes it
pretty apparent that there is no possible way to escape death, no matter what rank you are. To get across this message
he uses the ticking of a clock and the ring every hour to remind you death happens no matter what you do. He also
adds in seven different rooms of varying colors blue, purple, green, orange, white, violet, and black/scarlet. These
seven rooms may represent a whole unit of time, like the days of the week. Poe also says that the rooms go east to west
like the sun s course. Every color of the room can also represent life itself, blue represents birth, purple is youth, green
is adolescence, orange is adulthood, old age is white, imminent death is violet, then finally death itself is black/scarlet.

and believes that God is the true God and she will go to paradise. On the other hand Prince Prospero worships Satan

loyal to who he thought would save him, in the end he ends up being the face of death himself and

During the early era of the Golden age and late of Classical age of Ancient Greece, from the years 520 321 BC
womens roles were significantly different between the two mainly Greek city state Athens and Sparta. These roles that
the women presented had huge differences in a way women were portrayed in their societies. Both cities were very
different in many ways, the females were raised very differently, and had different duties they had to perform. For
example if you commit adultery by Spartan women it was considered tolerated and encourage in their society on the
other hand adultery in Athenian women was not even considered and substantially have very few consequences. Unlike
the Spartan women Athenian women were treated as unimportant citizens in a lot of ways. They were classified into
three different classes. The lowest class which were considered as slaves, the citizen class, and the Hetaerae which
were considered as prostitutes, but they were allowed to have education and go to marketplaces, and have rights. With
Spartan women they were taught to read and write, also were expected to protect themselves and the children since
men were barely around. They were definitely different from other Greek cities and were mainly raised to act as
warriors because of the responsibility of owning and protecting their homes. These womens had three considerable

How Architecture Can Be Applied to Plato s Definition of...
This essay will be demonstrating how architecture can be applied to Plato s definition of the ideal person as Kalo k
agatho. This essay will be examining the Temple of Zeus at Olympia, the Parthenon, the Erechtheion and the Temple to
Apollo at Bassae. The first monument this essay will be discussing is the Temple to Zeus at Olympia. The Temple to
Zeus was constructed between C. 470 to 450 BCE, having this temple belong to the Early Classical Period. The
Temple of Zeus had the typical features of the Doric Order, a perisytle, with a rule that the number of columns on the
sides should be one more than double on the front and back (thus the perisytle is 6 X 13), a pronaos, a cella and an
opithodomos. The two columns between the anta in the pronaos and the opithodomos align with the columns along the
front and back of the temple. The temple was constructed in limestone as well as marble for the roof tiles and the
sculptures. Over the entrances of the pronaos and opisthodomos, there were metopes of the 12 labours of Herakles,
athla 1 6 over the opithodomos (west) and athla 7 12 over the cella (East). One of the main features that this temple is
good to look at is because of the pediments. The west pediment depicts the Battle of Lapiths and Centaurs, while the
east pediment depictions the horse race of Pelops and Oinomaos. As this is the Temple to Zeus, the figure of Zeus as in
the center of the East Pediment, whiles Apollo was the center figure for the west pediment. The

The Debate Of God s Existence
We are raised to follow these old traditions which are passed from generation to generation. We are told to follow
certain norms or otherwise the big guy upstairs will punish us for being disobedient . To many, believing in God is the
only way to live, the reason for the way everything is, and it s the meaning to life. To others, God, is just a popular
view whose existence cannot be proven. While both Atheist and Agnostics agree on the questioning of God s existence,
they disagree on the reasoning of why thing are the way they are. Agnostics believe in a higher power while Atheists
believe in strictly science. Both points of views made me question if science is really the only explanation for
everything, how people came to believing , and the effects of believing in a higher power. Although it is true, there is
no evidence to prove God s existence, why not live a good moral live regardless of the existence of a higher power or
not?
The main argument we are presented with is whether God exists or not. One argues that there is no evidence to prove
its existence while the other one argues that we aren t capable enough to understand the philosophical mysteries of the
universe. One point of view we see is an atheist. Atheists argue that there is absolutely no scientific evidence for his
existence and from what they have heard the definition of God is a logical impossibility in this known universe
therefore, God does not exists. To Atheist, the explanation behind

Case Study Of Sigmund Freud s Theory On Psychoosexual...
Sigmund Freud (1856 1939), was an influential Austrian psychologist and the founder of psychoanalysis. Freud went
on to produce several theories, such as his theory on psychosexual development, which will be the focus of this
assignment. Using the case study of a six year old patient, I will discuss the key principles of Freud s theory on
psychosexual development. Including, comprehensive definitions of the concepts used, and the stages of Freud s
psychosexual development. Lastly using Freud s theory, I will explain how the patient s current behaviour, could

Regression is one of the defence mechanisms identified by Freud. According to Freud there are times when people are
faced with circumstances that make them feel at such unease and threatened, that they cannot deal with it and they
protect themselves, by retreating to an earlier stage of development. Many children who use regression as a defence
mechanism, may begin to suck their thumb again.
Freud s Psychosexual Stages of Development
Freud identified five stages of psychosexual development, namely: The oral stage, anal stage, phallic stage, latency
stage and genital stage.
The oral stage of development, begins at birth (even prenatally) and ends approximately, when the child is one year
old. The source of libido or pleasure and conflict, is the mouth. The child will enjoy sucking, feeding, and putting
things in their mouth. The psychological theme here is dependency. Babies can do very little for themselves, and this
would be the time where they are cared for deeply by their mothers and their most intimate bonding time. When a child
is deprived of this and his/ her needs are not properly fulfilled it can lead to an oral fixation or overindulgence in their
later life. Fixation in this stage could lead to problems such as smoking, nail biting, pen chewing, overeating,
alcoholism, sarcasm and verbal hostility. (Sammons,

include incidents on domestic soil in which protests turn violent such as the Boston Massacre in 1770 and the Kent

two draw deeper comparisons to one another which caused widespread protest leaving marks in American history.

Pros And Cons Of Term Limits

Customers branch visits have decreased over the past decade as more financial
transactions migrate from the branch to mobile and online channels. Branch banks
are also expensive to operate. As customers rapidly adopt online modes of
banking, branches will struggle to stay profitable using their current model. Banks
are inventing new ways for the branch to cater to certain customer interactions.
Branch banks of the future will focus less on transaction oriented business and
more toward sales, service, and consultancy.
The Likely Face Of The Future Banks

self service kiosks, and other visually interactive technologies to improve
the banking experience and communicate more effectively with customers.

Horror Film Genre Essay
The two movies I viewed were Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Poltergeist, which were both directed by Tobe Hopper.
Both films displayed the general rules horror films generally follow through the use of horror film genre conventions.
For instance, both movies follow the good verses evil story lines and in each the end does ultimately win. However,
this is not entirely true in Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The friends represented the good and the chainsaw carrying
monster and his family portrayed the evil. In the end on of the friends, Sally, ultimately does escape from being killed
by the monster in the movie. However, her other four friends were taken down and gruesomely killed by the evil killer
in the movie. So although in a bittersweet manner, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Poltergeist, the world of ghosts that jumps at the family is not one considered ordinary or one that would have any
sort of rationale behind it. Many would not believe such a thing to be true no matter if they had a house built on top of
a graveyard or not. Ghosts and the supernatural do not exist so this showing up in a film brings a sense of irrational
thought which would likely keep the audience of the horror film guessing for they do not know what to expect.
However, in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, mostly due to the fact the film was based on a true story, there is a rational
world where the events taking place could be explained. An audience can believe that such a monster could exist
because there are crazy enough people in the world that could be ruthless murderers and cannibals. It is not something
that would be a pleasant thought even if it can be explained however rationale can be given behind it which is not
typical in horror films. In addition, although being in the dark about something is more frightening Texas Chainsaw
Massacre still did a good job of producing a scare in a rational horror film by still keeping the element of surprise and
suspense throughout the movie. The timing of the appearance of the evil in each movie was just as similar to other
movies, delayed. In Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it takes up to half way through the movie for the chainsaw killer,
Leatherface, to appear and attack his first victim. In Poltergeist, the

The First Jewish Roman War
As briefly stated in the previous section of this paper, John was writing to both Jewish and Gentile Christians, post the
First Jewish Roman war. The era of his writing and the audience to which he was writing greatly affected what he was
communicating with this passage of Scripture. The logos in the 90 s CE would have been understood by Greeks
through a Platonic and Stoic worldview as a mediatory means between the divine and human realms or as the reason ,
the force by which the universe was structured. Philo, a first century philosopher combined this understanding of the
logos with the Jewish conception of wisdom personified. Before the writings of John s Gospel, the Jewish writings
personified Wisdom as a divine mediator of God s person and intent (see Proverbs 8:27; 29 30; 35 36). One can see
how language like this shapes and forms the understanding of Jesus that John wanted to convey to his audience. The
Hellenistic audience, influenced by Plato would see Jesus as the mediating agent between heaven and earth, which was
confirmed by Jesus in John 1:51, while Jewish readers would understand the Word of God through an Old Testament
worldview as God in action, specifically in creation, revelation and deliverance. Craig Keener talks of John s usage of
logos in this way,
By calling Jesus the Word, John calls him the embodiment of all God s revelation in the Scriptures and thus declares
that only those who accept Jesus honor the law, fully (1:17). Jewish

Benefits Of Lowering The Voting Age
In the 26th amendment the phrase Old enough to fight, old enough to vote became a slogan for a youth voting right
movement. There was a controversy about lowering the age to vote from 21 to 18 because of military reasons, so
president Franklin D. Roosevelt lowered the voting age to 18 for the youth to be involved in helping America. But
today there is controversy about decreasing the voting age even lower. Lowering the voting age can affect everyone in
negative ways. They are still too young to make mature decisions about life especially deciding the future of the
country. Lowering the age gives the responsibility for impulsive, immature kids to choose the fate of the future
president; therefore, lowering the age thirteen will not benefit the country.
Teenage brains are distinct from adults. The teenage brain is still developing and will continue to develop until the age
of 25, so they can not fully make decisions. In Understanding the brain from the University of Rochester Medical
Center, it states that connections between the emotional part of the brain and the decision making center are still
developing. This shows that the connections make teens combine their feelings and emotions with thinking and
decision making so when it s time to vote for a president they do not fully think about it and let ... Show more content

At the age of thirteen they still are not taught about how the government works, the electoral college, or about election
until they enter their third year of highschool. According to Headcount teenagers don t tend to pay attention to current
events. Teenager are not informed enough to know about the candidate and what their ideals are. They don t know how
the candidate will benefit the country and their community. If adults still don t understand electoral college how do
people expect kids to. All in all, Teens do not have a good understanding of how certain decisions may affect a nation

Richard Nixon Watergate Scandal
Watergate scandal remains one of the historical revelation of excessive use of power during the reign of President
Richard Nixon. After the break in at the Democratic National Committee at the Westgate offices, there was a
remarkable series of rotten underbelly in the Nixon s administration. Specifically, this scandal led to the discovery of
the multiple abuses of the power under the articles of impeachment. Because of the unlawful approach used by this
administration to thwart those who were critical of Nixon s administration, human rights groups and political activities
embarked on demanding for explanation and resignation of the president. Rightful, there was reasonable grounds to
demand the president s resignation because it became overt that he had used FBI, CIA and Internal Revenue Service to
silence critics. Subsequently, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this scandal, Clinton was accused of engaging in an extramarital affair in the White House. This led to the
impeachment motion in 1998 by the U.S House of Representatives. However, he was acquitted of all charges of
perjury and obstruction of justice in the Senate trial. Moreover, his license to practice law was suspended in Arkansas
and even by the United States Supreme Court. Besides, he received a fine of $90,000 because of giving a wrong
account of the testimony. Like the previous President, the Clinton Lewinsky Sex Scandal depicts a serious pursuit of
the American people to safeguard the respect for the presidency. The fact that the U.S president was subjected to
Senate and House of Representative trial and even suspension of his legal license manifest expansion of the oversight
roles. Indeed, the president is accountable to the electorate both politically and socially. Again, this scandal revealed
the increased scrutiny on the presidency and demand for accountability during that

The strategic analysis of EasyJet and Easy Group --the...
Introduction
The assignment was based on a strategic marketing analysis of Easy Jet and Easy Group. It will be carried out through
two exclusive parts.
In the first part, firstly, we are going to give a general overview on easyJet s assets, then mainly concentrate on its
critical capability which formed its core competence. Essentially, historical comparison approach was adopted to
evaluate the organization s relative strengths and weakness.
The second one is by constructing a Growth share Matrix for the Easy Group to better understand the balance
portfolios of its different Easy companies in it and then the core competence of Easy group will be discussed in
detailed.
Part One
1. The overview of easyJet s assets:
1.1 Physical assets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now approximately 90% of all seats are sold over the Internet, making EasyJet one of Europe s biggest Internet
retailers. This approach eliminates the distribution costs charged by the middlemen. (Cranfield School of Management,
2001)
Ticketless travel
easyJet confirm the booking of seats by e mailing passengers, which cuts the cost of issuing, distributing and
processing tickets.. This is going to be a sustainable basis for easyJet to continue to be as successful as it has been in
the year ahead. (biz/ed, 2004)
High utilization of aircraft
easyJet has always bought brand new aircrafts which are believed more reliable and need much less maintenance.
Consequently, it allows high utilization, minimising the cost .per hour flown cheaper than using older ones. (Stellios
Harji Ioannou, 2002)
Simple service model
Ending of free on board catering reduces costs and unnecessary management. It is also a key differentiator, a potent
reflection of their low cost approach, between easyJet and other airlines. Passengers have choice to purchase food if
desired and pay less for the flight. The concept also reflects a more general point of eliminating other unnecessary,
complex to manage and costly services, such as pre assigned seats; interline connections with other airlines and
cargo/freight carriage. ( go fly.com. 2004f.)
Efficient use of airports
EasyJet flies to main destination airports throughout Europe and uses less congested and less expensive

Gangs were mostly run from prisons during the 1970 s and on (Brief outline); therefore one could not escape the gangs. Gangs shaped Chicago early on. Gentrification is displacing gangs and causing turf wars. Gentrification and the tearing down of public housing in Chicago left many gangs homeless (Brief outline). Due to this, gangs battle over land and housing, known as turf wars. The violence rises, along with the number of deaths. Therefore police attempt to limit the gangs, but that also leads to fighting and violence with police. The whole cycle involves violence and is vicious. Chicago has the biggest gang problem in the country (Thomas Bass, 2009). There are more gang members per citizen in Chicago than anywhere else in the country (Thomas, 2009, para 4). The average Chicago gang leader is 43, convicted of murder and lives in the suburbs. That leader on many occasions directs his gang from jail (Main, 2006) and 95 percent of inmates in the Cook County Jail are gang members (Thomas, 2009). Gangs are everywhere today just like they use to be. The high number of gangs causes violence and deaths to rise in Chicago. Gangs have morphed from social organizations into full fledged criminal enterprises (Thomas, 2009, para 5). Gangs are highly sophisticated and more dangerous then ever. The number one reason to join a gang is money; and 95 percent of gangs profit comes from drug dealing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Police Brutality And Its Effects Police brutality is a phenomena that is documented throughout a myriad of societies from Russia, China, Indonesia, Palestine, Egypt to the United States. Police brutality is the use of force which exceeds what is needed in order to accomplish a legal police purpose.Throughout America s history, minorities, specifically Black people, have been the disproportionate target of police brutality. Amnesty International has documented several examples of police brutality, including instances of beatings, unjustified shootings, and excessively forceful detention methods which merit concern (Amnesty 1999).The pervasiveness of police shootings of citizens has been widely publicized in the media and stresses the fact that this is a national problem. While these occurrences are relatively infrequent the lack of any solution or way to minimize brutality has been an ongoing criticism by citizens and others of the United States police force. The term excessive force is utilized frequently, although there is no concrete definition of this term as it is subjective (Police Use of Excessive Force in Minority Communities). The use of force is either appropriate or excessive depending on if the use of force is necessary and justified for the officer to complete his job (Police Use of Excessive Force in Minority Communities). The use of deadly force is justified by law if the officer feels he or others are under imminent threat. There are many high profile cases of the use of excessive and ... Developing A Specialized Not For Profit Advocacy Group Our solution is to develop a specialized not for profit advocacy group, which focuses on policy change and bridging the gap between local government, non profits, and the federal government. Furthermore, we will fill the void within these entities with additional resources. Our group will be composed of a full time paid staff, a board of specialized individuals (ex. Lawyers, professors, government officials), and a network of community volunteers. Our staff will handle the day to day operations necessary for an efficiently run business, while our board of specialized individuals will donate their time/services for tasks outside the capabilities of staff members (on an as needed basis). The group of community volunteers will be a tremendous asset to the advocacy group, by providing services to those facing hardship from unemployment. Regardless of a person s position, paid or unpaid, each member of our advocacy group will work as partners of the organization. It will function as a democratic body, as opposed to the bureaucratic structure mostly seen in government and nonprofit agencies. • 9. Setting Clear Boundaries in the Social Work Field Setting Clear Boundaries In Social Work Many individuals opt for the field of social work so that others may grow and improve their way of life and have a stable living style. However, while providing this sort of help to the clients, it is important that social workers are aware of their ethical boundaries and have communicated this to their clients as well. Setting and maintain clear boundaries is a very important part of every profession. As far as social work is concerned where the worker directly influences the lives of his clients, this practice becomes more important as it has a direct impact on ones professional integrity. Where we see number of complaints filed against the social workers for breach of ethical boundaries, it is important to understand what these limitations are and how to adhere to them. In order to understand the concept of setting clear boundaries, let s have a look at what Dietz and Thompson said about it. As per them, The concern about appropriate boundaries is, at least in part, a concern about the effects of the power differential between client and professional. It is primarily a concern about boundary violations (Dietz and Thompson, 2004, p. 2). In addition to it, it is important to realize that boundaries provide us safer connections based on the needs of clients we are dealing with (Peterson, 1992, p. 74). Now that we are aware of what boundaries really are, it is also vitally significant about what constitutes a breach and how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Market Research Methods For Business Market research methods in business Primary research is data that is gathered first hand from an original source, and has not been collected before. It often involves going out and asking people for information, hence its alternative name field research. Observational research involves watching and observing people s activities. For example, businesses use cookies on their websites in order to track what pages users are visiting on their website. By using cookies, businesses will be able to know what pages are most popular among users on their website. Information collected through cookies can also help businesses improve marketing and their website. Experimental research is when an investigation or test is conducted in order to discover new opportunities which can help to maximise revenues for a business. This could be done by aiming their product at a different demographic e.g. elderly people and modifying (or experimenting with) their product to make it more appealing to that demographic. Surveys involve asking people questions in order to collect information about what people think about something. This can be done face to face, by telephone, by post and online too. E marketing research involves using the internet to contact and interact with consumers about a businesses product(s). Examples of e marketing include online surveys and cookies (as mentioned before). A focus group is a research method in which a small group of people are asked to give their opinions and ... The experiment was terminated if individuals did not seek assistance for the seizure victim within six minutes. Thus, this research was conducted in a correlational fashion. For example, Sue God For Rain, The Golden Star Fruit Tree, Chu Dong Tu And Princess Tien Dung, and The Price of Love are many rattling good stories in Vietnamese folklore. However, Love Story Of My Chau And Trong Thuy is the best folktale I have ever heard since I was a child. It is involved in the important and true historical event in Vietnam. An Duong Vuong a king of Au Lac nation, who built Co Loa citadel, was helped by saint Kim Qui. Then, the saint took him one of his claws to make a crossbow to protect the citadel from enemies. Because the crossbow was very magic, every arrow was shot from it to hit a thousand of enemies at the same time. After a long time, Cao Lo, who was one of the mandarin s household butlers, was the most skilful crossbow maker in the country. He was chosen by the king to be in charge of the heavy responsibility. Nevertheless, athletes are only suited to use this kind of weapon. The crossbow was extremely treasured by the kings, so it was hung in his bedroom. At the time, Trieu Da, the governor of a country adjoining Au Lac at the north, had been failed in occupying his neighbouring nation for many times. • 16. The Tone Of August Wilson The tone that August Wilson uses is an approachable and lofty blend at the same time. To begin with the protagonist of fences, Troy is a mindful man whose dreams are obstructed, this makes him have confidence in self made fantasies. The play first begins with an entertaining story about his struggle with a personified Death character. In addition to this Troy has the ability to live in a fictitious world, denying his affair with Alberta. Troy instigates conflict as a result of his ability to believe in self made illusions and his inability to acknowledge other s decisions in life when they vary from Troy s own philosophy. Troy s name symbolically exhibits Troy s character as one who lives on a line between two contradicting thoughts. Troy Maxson begins the play loved, admired and getting away with his secret affair. Yet, inevitably, Troy s death leaves many negative characteristics as a legacy for his family to deal with and acknowledge. Although this may be true, the setting is set in the dirt yard of the Maxson house. All this seems notable that the Maxson s aren t the richest people in town. Clearly, the set remind us that money is a constant concern for Troy and his family. They relay in Troy s salary as garbage collector. • 17. Analysis Of Sudden Shower Over Shin-Ohashi Bridge And Atake Japan is often recognized as a land of peace, beauty, and diverse landscapes and climates that cannot be witnessed anywhere else on the planet. A majority of Japanese citizens practice Shintoism, a polytheistic religion whose gods exist within plants and animals. Because of this, an appreciation for nature is ingrained deep into the foundation of Japan s values. This can be seen throughout the country s entire history; much of its art and poetry has been focused solely on its natural beauty. Sudden Shower Over Shin Ohashi Bridge and Atake is a famous Japanese woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige published in 1857, one of many that shows an appreciation for Japan s beautiful landscapes. The print belongs the ukiyo e genre that emerged between the 17th and 19th century. Ukiyo e literally translates to pictures of the floating world and the style dominated the art of Japan s Edo Period. What began as a reflection of Japan s indulgent and hedonistic culture, portraying subjects like beautiful women and extravagant scenes from the Kabuki theater, gradually transitioned into capturing landscapes and the lives of average people. Hiroshige was one of the pioneers of this transition with his famed One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, a 119 piece series that features celebrated landscapes in his hometown of Edo, known as Tokyo today, and his last great success before his death. However, networking through social media plays a larger role in human lives than one may realize. When I hear the statement everyone is a result of his or her surroundings has verified to be correct when discussing the effect of social media and web sharing. It is truly amazing to see that scientists have proposed that most social networks mainly upkeep current social relationships. Facebook, for instance, has demonstrated that there is some certainty to that suggestion. The aim of Facebook is to uphold current offline associations or solidify offline relations, rather than meeting different individuals. While, the idea for social networks was to be widely obtainable, it is not uncommon to discover groups exhausting the sites to distant themselves by ethnic groups, schooling level, stage of development, etc. When connecting social media to our average lives; from what we consume, to the way we sense is superficially inclined by those surrounding us and those surrounding them and those associated to them. Computerized Timekeeping System For An Electronic Gps System Abstract The following paper is about a group of employees working for a company moving from a manual timekeeping system to an electronic timekeeping system. These staff members are resisting the new electronic timekeeping system, and have a bad attitude on this subject, not understanding why there has to be changes in the system they are currently using. Three trainers have been selected to change the workers attitude and train them to be proficient with the new electronic timekeeping system. There are three basic methods of training that can be used to get the employees onboard with the new electronic timekeeping system. The three trainers met to review the different methods and discuss which method would be the best method of training for this group of individuals. The trainers started the process by reviewing and discussing the lecture method of training. Once discussing this method, it was decided that this was not the proper training method for this group of individuals. Some people find this type of training boring and become disengaged early in the training, resulting in poor training results. Next the trainers reviewed the experiential training method and reviewed the four step process of training. The trainers thought they might get positive feedback from this type of training, but then decided that if the employees were not interested in learning a new system, case studies and role playing might not go as the trainers planned. Moonlight Reflection In the movie Moonlight, written and directed by Berry Jenkins, follows an introverted black boy named Chiron through three pivotal stages in his life as he struggles to come to term with his sexuality. What made it even harder for Chiron was living in a drug infested, poverty stricken environment filled with people who constantly remind him that he is different. Throughout the three stories Chiron gets bullied through his childhood and high school years, causing him to eventually snap into what his society wanted him to be. In the opening scene of Part One, Chiron s childhood, there s a shot of little Chiron running as fast as he can away from a group of boys who are chasing him through a field calling him a faggot. This really shows that the boys that were chasing him think that it is not okay that Chiron is different compared to them. After being chased into an abandoned apartment Chiron is introduced to Juan who eventually becomes somewhat of a role model for Chiron. The reason Juan becomes such a role model is because he is the perfect example of how masculine a man should be. Little gets picked on every day by almost everyone at his school except for his friend Kevin, who thinks that Chiron is too soft and tries to toughen him up. The fact that Kevin, the one person who does not bully him still tells Chiron that he needs to become tougher. This just shows how deeply rooted in Chiron s society that every man should be tough. In both, story and movie, Prince Prospero throws a masquerade ball for all of his high class friends, to let all the others die out, and wait out the Red Death. Though it always ends the same way, death. In Poe s short story, The Masque of the Red Death, he makes it pretty apparent that there is no possible way to escape death, no matter what rank you are. To get across this message he uses the ticking of a clock and the ring every hour to remind you death happens no matter what you do. He also adds in seven different rooms of varying colors blue, purple, green, orange, white, violet, and black/scarlet. These seven rooms may represent a whole unit of time, like the days of the week. Poe also says that the rooms go east to west like the sun s course. This essay will be examining the Temple of Zeus at Olympia, the Parthenon, the Erechtheion and the Temple to Apollo at Bassae. The first monument this essay will be discussing is the Temple to Zeus at Olympia. The Temple to Zeus was constructed between C. 470 to 450 BCE, having this temple belong to the Early Classical Period. The Temple of Zeus had the typical features of the Doric Order, a perisytle, with a rule that the number of columns on the sides should be one more than double on the front and back (thus the perisytle is 6 X 13), a pronaos, a cella and an opithodomos. The two columns between the anta in the pronaos and the opithodomos align with the columns along the front and back of the temple. The temple was constructed in limestone as well as marble for the roof tiles and the sculptures. Over the entrances of the pronaos and opisthodomos, there were metopes of the 12 labours of Herakles, athla 1 6 over the opithodomos (west) and athla 7 12 over the cella (East). One of the main features that this temple is good to look at is because of the pediments. The west pediment depicts the Battle of Lapiths and Centaurs, while the east pediment depictions the horse race of Pelops and Oinomaos. To many, believing in God is the only way to live, the reason for the way everything is, and it s the meaning to life. To others, God, is just a popular view whose existence cannot be proven. While both Atheist and Agnostics agree on the questioning of God s existence, they disagree on the reasoning of why thing are the way they are. Agnostics believe in a higher power while Atheists believe in strictly science. Both points of views made me question if science is really the only explanation for everything, how people came to believing , and the effects of believing in a higher power. Although it is true, there is no evidence to prove God s existence, why not live a good moral live regardless of the existence of a higher power or not? Regression is one of the defence mechanisms identified by Freud. According to Freud there are times when people are faced with circumstances that make them feel at such unease and threatened, that they cannot deal with it and they protect themselves, by retreating to an earlier stage of development. Many children who use regression as a defence mechanism, may begin to suck their thumb again. Freud s Psychosexual Stages of Development Freud identified five stages of psychosexual development, namely: The oral stage, anal stage, phallic stage, latency stage and genital stage. The oral stage of development, begins at birth (even prenatally) and ends approximately, when the child is one year old. The source of libido or pleasure and conflict, is the mouth. The child will enjoy sucking, feeding, and putting things in their mouth. The psychological theme here is dependency. Babies can do very little for themselves, and this would be the time where they are cared for deeply by their mothers and their most intimate bonding time. When a child is deprived of this and his/ her needs are not properly fulfilled it can lead to an oral fixation or overindulgence in their later life. • 43. Pros And Cons Of Term Limits I really hate when others take my right to decide when my elected representatives can no longer represent me. Term limits take that choice away from voters. We already have term limits, it s called a ballot. The majority of voters either really like the person representing them or are too lazy to exercise that very powerful means of limiting how long someone represents them. With all the support many voters give to term limits, it is simply a sign that voters don t want to be bothered with voting responsibly. This type of voter would rather a law be passed to take over that responsibility. So, what would happen if a law was created limiting terms and voters really liked a person representing them? Well, you d be out of luck. People need to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Questions On The Banking System Today s banking system very much gives us the hint about the banking system say 20 to 25 years from now. Digitization promises to automate and improve many banking processes. Yet it s not without peril: customer demands and expectations are increasing, and technology is fuelling the emergence of significant new competitors. (www.mckinsey.com) Banking Transitions Branch banks have historically been the front line of the customer relationship. But at a time when more than 50 percent of Americans bank online to some degree, branch banks are challenged to stay relevant. Customers branch visits have decreased over the past decade as more financial transactions migrate from the branch to mobile and online channels. Branch banks are also expensive to operate. As customers rapidly adopt online modes of banking, branches will struggle to stay profitable using their current model. Banks are inventing new ways for the branch to cater to certain customer interactions. Branch banks of the future will focus less on transaction oriented business and more toward sales, service, and consultancy. The Likely Face Of The Future Banks a. • 45. Horror Film Genre Essay The two movies I viewed were Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Poltergeist, which were both directed by Tobe Hopper. Both films displayed the general rules horror films generally follow through the use of horror film genre conventions. For instance, both movies follow the good verses evil story lines and in each the end does ultimately win. However, this is not entirely true in Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The friends represented the good and the chainsaw carrying monster and his family portrayed the evil. In the end on of the friends, Sally, ultimately does escape from being killed by the monster in the movie. However, her other four friends were taken down and gruesomely killed by the evil killer in the movie. So although in a bittersweet manner, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Poltergeist, the world of ghosts that jumps at the family is not one considered ordinary or one that would have any sort of rationale behind it. Many would not believe such a thing to be true no matter if they had a house built on top of a graveyard or not. Ghosts and the supernatural do not exist so this showing up in a film brings a sense of irrational thought which would likely keep the audience of the horror film guessing for they do not know what to expect. However, in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, mostly due to the fact the film was based on a true story, there is a rational world where the events taking place could be explained. An audience can believe that such a monster could exist because there are crazy enough people in the world that could be ruthless murderers and cannibals. It is not something that would be a pleasant thought even if it can be explained however rationale can be given behind it which is not typical in horror films. In addition, although being in the dark about something is more frightening Texas Chainsaw Massacre still did a good job of producing a scare in a rational horror film by still keeping the element of surprise and suspense throughout the movie. The timing of the appearance of the evil in each movie was just as similar to other movies, delayed. In Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it takes up to half way through the movie for the chainsaw killer, Leatherface, to appear and attack his first victim. In Poltergeist, the ... • 46. The First Jewish Roman War As briefly stated in the previous section of this paper, John was writing to both Jewish and Gentile Christians, post the First Jewish Roman war. The era of his writing and the audience to which he was writing greatly affected what he was communicating with this passage of Scripture. The logos in the 90 s CE would have been understood by Greeks through a Platonic and Stoic worldview as a mediatory means between the divine and human realms or as the reason , the force by which the universe was structured. Philo, a first century philosopher combined this understanding of the logos with the Jewish conception of wisdom personified. Before the writings of John s Gospel, the Jewish writings personified Wisdom as a divine mediator of God s person and intent (see Proverbs 8:27; 29 30; 35 36). One can see how language like this shapes and forms the understanding of Jesus that John wanted to convey to his audience. The Hellenistic audience, influenced by Plato would see Jesus as the mediating agent between heaven and earth, which was confirmed by Jesus in John 1:51, while Jewish readers would understand the Word of God through an Old Testament worldview as God in action, specifically in creation, revelation and deliverance. Craig Keener talks of John s usage of logos in this way, By calling Jesus the Word, John calls him the embodiment of all God s revelation in the Scriptures and thus declares that only those who accept Jesus honor the law, fully (1:17). • 47. Benefits Of Lowering The Voting Age In the 26th amendment the phrase Old enough to fight, old enough to vote became a slogan for a youth voting right movement. There was a controversy about lowering the age to vote from 21 to 18 because of military reasons, so president Franklin D. Roosevelt lowered the voting age to 18 for the youth to be involved in helping America. But today there is controversy about decreasing the voting age even lower. Lowering the voting age can affect everyone in negative ways. They are still too young to make mature decisions about life especially deciding the future of the country. Lowering the age gives the responsibility for impulsive, immature kids to choose the fate of the future president; therefore, lowering the age thirteen will not benefit the country. Teenage brains are distinct from adults. The teenage brain is still developing and will continue to develop until the age of 25, so they can not fully make decisions. In Understanding the brain from the University of Rochester Medical Center, it states that connections between the emotional part of the brain and the decision making center are still developing. This shows that the connections make teens combine their feelings and emotions with thinking and decision making so when it s time to vote for a president they do not fully think about it and let ... After the break in at the Democratic National Committee at the Westgate offices, there was a remarkable series of rotten underbelly in the Nixon s administration. Specifically, this scandal led to the discovery of the multiple abuses of the power under the articles of impeachment. Because of the unlawful approach used by this administration to thwart those who were critical of Nixon s administration, human rights groups and political activities embarked on demanding for explanation and resignation of the president.
