The 1950 s was a time of change from the Jazz and Band Styles but still trying to maintain some of the
past. Without knowing during this era it would embrack a journey that would change the face of music
forever. Around this time the civil right movement was happening, and the music showed the racial
tension of blacks and whites. Rhythm Blues known as R B and Rock n Roll made black music very
popular and successful. Yet other African Americans were denied to enjoy their success because of
segregation. Many people believe that whites took advantage of the African Americans by stealing
their music. A great example would be Pat Bonne which was made to cover up Lil s Richard s song

The African Queen Essays
THE AFRICAN QUEEN Short Summary: quot; The African Queen quot; is the tale of two
companions with different personalities who develop an untrustworthy love affair as they travel
together downriver in Africa around the start of World War I. They struggle against the climate, the
river, the bugs, the Germans and, most of all, against each other. In the course of much misery, they
develop love and respect for each other. Detailed Summary: In September 1914, the German
occupying forces hold East Africa. The story starts in a small village that is overlorded by a stuffy
British missionary, Reverent Samuel Sayer and his spinster, prudish sister Rose Sayer, who is utterly
devoted to her brother. Rose is also very naive and pious. She ... Show more content on

In front of the lake, the Germans occupy a fort at Shona. And all along the way there are many rapids.
Rose, who is now resolute and strong willed, wants to strike back against the Germans. She plans to
destroy the German warship by using the explosives that are still on board of the quot;African Queen
quot;. At first, Charlie doesn t want to support that patriotic plan. Rose tries to change his views by
accusing him permanently of not helping their country. That shows effects and Charlie agrees to her
plan. They start their travel down to the river. At first they are polite and tolerant to each other. After
Charlie has drunk his gin, he suggests that they each could take a bath in the river. During the night, a
rain storm soacks Charlie, who must sleep on the open deck, while Rose sleeps on the lower deck.
After they passed a series of dangerous rapids, Charlie expects that Rose will think over her plan, but
it turns out that this was not correct. On the contrary: Rose wishes more dangerous rapids because she
wants to learn how to steer the quot;African Queen quot;. She is developing a kind of love for the
quot;African Queen quot;. After some drinks Charlie reneges on his promise to destroy the German
warship. He says that it is an absurd idea because the fort at Shona has sharpshooters and snipers,
which they have to pass during the day. Rose accuses him of being a liar and a coward. Charlie gets
nervous and begins to sing. He takes one

The European Union Essay
Introduction
In the course of fifty years, the European Union has expanded from six countries united under
economic treaties to a large collective of twenty five sovereign nations. Maintaining the union within
such a large group has grown more difficult as numerous treaties have been drafted to control the
governance of the European Union. To reduce the number of treaties in the union, the convention
decided to draft a Constitution, which now moves through the process of ratification in each of the
sovereign nations. The Constitution works to set up a basis for the expansion of the Union and the
requirements that need to be met when a country seeks entry into the Union. But with the greater
controls the EU seeks to place on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The proposal limited the life span of the treaty to fifty years, meaning it would expire in 2002. The
treaty was the first significant step towards European integration going beyond intergovernmentalism,
establishing a supranational authority whose independent institutions had the power to bind its
constituent member States . From there, the countries decided to expand their connections with the
Treaty of Rome in 1957. This treaty created the European Atomic Energy Community and the
European Economic Community, both of which helped strengthen economic ties between the
countries. The member states strove to create a common market amongst themselves by removing
trade barriers1. This common market was created slowly with a lengthy transitional period, during
which tariff barriers would be removed and a common external customs tariff set up 2. It was at this
point that the High Authority transformed into the Commission, an executive authority within the
treaties. The Parliamentary Assembly, Court of Justice and Council of Ministers each then evolved by
1967. In 1992, the Treaty of Maastricht formally created the European Union through new forms of
collaboration in inter governmental affairs of defense and justice1. One of the original goals for the
European Union was to spread jurisdiction in countries to help combat international crime
organizations and terrorist movements. The expanded

Strobe lights overwhelm the shadowy streets with blue in Atlanta, on the 11th of November. The
epileptic flashing is unstartling as more authorize forces speed towards the protest; their sirens blare
begging for attention. People of various races, religions, and ethnic backgrounds are in attendance
with passionate concerns over the future prosperity and equality of the country that belongs to them
too. Amongst the crowd, people carry cardboard signs that ache their arms, some stomp with the
iconic two finger symbol of peace, while others spectate from their high rise apartments, cheering and
waving their support. The protest is mass with many differing and numerous causes of dissatisfaction,
but a commonly shared opinion causes the underlying discontent: the president elect is not supportive
of the multiple demographics that compose the United States. There is a feeling of underrepresentation
from these minority groups who have been long overlooked in politics. The protest is not a cry for
help but a demand for change. The massive police force surrounds the protesters attempting to block
their march. This border between the two opposing sides is a symbolic reminder of the ongoing power
struggle, of the endless fight The powerless is to be heard, for at least tonight.

Malcolm X s Use Of Rhetorical Patterns In My First Conk
Rhetorical Patterns in My First Conk In the excerpt from, The Autobiography of Malcolm X (1994) ,
titled, My First Conk , Malcolm X used the rhetorical pattern of description to paint a picture of the
scene in the reader s mind, he used process to thoughtfully describe each step and build suspense, and
finally, he used narration to connect with the readers. Malcolm X used the device of description in his
autobiography in order to paint a picture in the reader s mind so that one can better understand the
context, the overall situation, and in this case, the result of his project. An example of his use of
description is in paragraph 17, where Malcolm wrote, And on top of my head was this thick, smooth
sheen of shining red hair real red as straight as any white man s . This is an example of description
because it uses expressive word choice which helps one to have a thorough understanding of how the
author wants to portray the scene. Using description helped Malcolm X to enhance his message
because it shows to the readers all of the details that he wants us to know about what he was aiming
for in this time of his life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He used process to completely describe each step and to build suspense during the scene. An example
where Malcolm used this pattern is in paragraphs 2 and 5, where he wrote, I took the little list of
ingredients he had printed out for me, and went to a grocery store, where I got a can... He peeled the
potatoes and thin sliced them into a quart sized Mason fruit jar . This example demonstrates the
rhetorical pattern process in that it explains in each of the steps that it took Malcolm in order to
complete the task that he had planned, as well as the fact that it built up suspense to the final results. In
using the pattern of process, Malcolm X enhanced his message by organizing his story, and by giving
the reader more context so that the message is

The Scientific Question On War
The Scientific Answer to War
On September 1, 1939, Germany under the control of Adolf Hitler invaded the sovereign nation of
Poland effectively starting the Second World War. By the end of the conflict in 1945 an estimated 64
million had died, more than the population of the United Kingdom (Thomas). The Second World War
saw the end of the German Third Reich, the founding of the United Nations, and the United States and
Russia becoming global superpowers. The Second World War s start is one log debated: a continuation
of World War I that theoretically ended in 1918, Japan seizes Manchuria, Germany s reoccupation of
the Rhineland, or Germany s invasion of Poland (World). No matter the start of the warfare it is one of
the deadliest wars the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most theories offered on the causes of war are done through the lens of historians; however, this essay
uses the perspective of political scientists. The new lens allows for readers to look information in a
new dynamic. Figure I lays out of the steps a hostilities must take to expand into war. Vasquez states
that more than one step from each area is required to bring about combat (Vasquez). Vasquez defines a
world war as:
A large scale severe war among major states that involves the leading states at some point in the war
and most of the major states in a struggle to resolve the most fundamental issues on the global
political agenda (Vasquez).
The Second World War s fundamental issues mostly revolved around territorial disputes. These
disputes over areas such as Poland s Danzig, the Rhineland, Anschluss, and the Sudetenland drove the
start of the war. Overall the essay used the theory to show that World War II followed the pattern of
behavior roughly consistent with other war of its type. The Second World War onset was brought
about military buildups, repeated crises, and expanded through the making of allies. Hitler s foreign
policy and lack of diplomacy were another big reason that the Second World War occurred. The
policies pushed both sides to build up militaries; Germany to have successful invasions and Britain
and France because they felt threatened by Germany s territorial ambitions. Even in 1936, the anti

This is shown in the portal of Anubis, Anubis the protector of the dead, was the god associated with
mummification and the afterlife. Through the association with mummification and the afterlife he was
generally portrayed as a half human half jackal form. Animals were usually also highly symbolic
figures in Egyptian art, however the Egyptians did not worship animals, the animals were used as
powerful symbols for the gods in which they worshiped, the use of the jackal portrayed the ideals of
death. As the jackal itself was strongly associated with the cemeteries of ancient Egypt, it was a
creature whose scavenging habits threatened the preservation of the body, in an effort to counter this
threat and employ it for protection the jackal head was a symbol for Anubis. The distinct black colour
of Anubis, was symbolic not of the jackals skin but that of rotting flesh and the fertility of the black
soil of the Nile Valley which symbolized that of rebirth, as shown in the artwork below.

which every Egyptian hoped to join in the afterlife. Osiris was a god originally connected with

Lab Report 1
Abstract
The objective of this lab was to observe prepared bacterial cells and to observe and describe the
primary features of eukaryotic cells. Also, we investigated the effect of concentration gradient and
temperature on the rate of osmosis in an artificial system. Finally, we investigated the effect of solute
concentration on the tonicity of cells in plant tissue and Elodea. The purpose of our experiments was
to find out whether the effect of concentration gradient on the rate of osmosis had a greater effect than
temperature on the rate of osmosis. The purpose of the Elodea experiment was to see if a five percent
solution of sodium chloride or distilled water effected the structure of the Elodea.
To observe the primary features of a eukaryotic cell we used a compound microscope. We tested the
effect concentration gradients had on the rate of osmosis two ways: with potato tissue and with
dialysis tubes. We used potato slices, paper towels, bowls, sodium chloride (at different concentration
levels), and a scale to test potato tissue. We used dialysis tubing, sucrose solution (10% and 40%
concentration gradients), plastic clips, bags, distilled water, and a scale to test the rate of osmosis with
dialysis tubes. To test the solute concentration on the tonicity of cells in plant tissue and Elodea, we
used Elodea, water, sodium chloride solution, tap water, a coverslip, and Kimwipe

two employees at $15,000.00 per twelve months or $30,000.00 divided by twelve.
The Current Ratio Formula;
Current Ratio is determined by dividing the assets by the liabilities. (MBA in a Nutshell)
Current Ratio= Assets /Liabilities with balance sheet numbers: $18,211 / $6573 = a ratio of 2.77
Short term creditors prefer a higher ratio as it reduces the risk of default. Conversely, shareholders
prefer a low ratio as it indicates that the assets are being utilized to grow the business. Based on the
project information we are assuming that inventory turnover is not a factor of concern as they are
selling as fast as they can make it.

Contradictions in Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales Essay
Contradictions in Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales There is no question that contradictory values make
up a major component of The Canterbury Tales. Fate vs. Fortuna, knowledge vs. experience and love
vs. hate all embody Chaucer s famous work. These contrasting themes are an integral part of the
complexity and sophistication of the book, as they provide for an ironic dichotomy to the creative plot
development and undermine the superficial assumptions that might be made. The combination of
completely contradictory motifs leads to the unusual stories and outcomes that come to play out in the
tales. And these outcomes draw focus on the larger universal issues that in many cases transcend the

In the debate, a number of different options have emerged. Some, like medieval author Paul Ruggiers,
argue that it is impossible to determine the Prioress?s attitude and that, ?we must be satisfied with
ambiguity.? Others like writer Victoria Wickham argue the most popular belief, that the Prioress?s
bigotry is without question and readers should be more concerned about the degree rather than the fact
itself. But there is another possibility. Edwards and Spector, two prominent medieval scholars, put
aside the issue of racism temporarily and instead offer an alternative interpretation on the very nature
of Chaucer?s love hate contradiction in the Prioress?s tale. They argue that the love vs. hate
contradiction is not dependent on outside forces, but is actually an internal conflict within the Prioress
herself. Consequently, the individuals and subsequent groups in her tale are not specific characters but
culturally influenced manifestations representing separate issues. In this way her personality becomes
the allegory of her tale, making specific references within her story irrelevant to her true attitude. In
this writer?s opinion, popular attitudes on the nature of the love hate contradiction in the Prioress?s
tale are wrong; Edwards and Stevens help prove this. Rather than considering the most obvious stand
alone factors of love and hate in the story, specifically the description of the Prioress and her affinity
for Christianity vs. the evil

This suggests that he s starting to smell gas from an attack. All the senses are being mentioned because
he s trying to get up to fresh air and all he has to help him is his senses whereas a lot of the time he

it s just a trench filling with gas, against him using impaired vision, touch and smell to try and escape.
The fact that Sassoon tells us that the soldier is fifty feet below emphasizes really how far away the
soldier is from above ground where the fight is taking place. Again, this shows the reader exactly how
isolated the soldier really is. In fact, he s so isolated that the fight is actually described as The rosy
gloom of battle overhead. Now while this may not be a particularly positive description, it doesn t
make the battle sound overwhelmingly bad. The reader knows that actually, it s bound to be a horrible,
bloody battle. But to the soldier, he would probably give anything to be up there fighting rather than
down in the darkness trying to escape death. This causes the reader to sympathize with the soldier as
his best option at that time would be to be up there, risking his life in a battle. Tripping, he grabbed the
wall is a very interesting way to start a line as again, Sassoon has used a verb at the beginning. Just
like at the start of the poem when Groping was used, it has the same effect of showing the reader that

Different Times, Different Ideals
Different Times, Different Ideals The world is a very different place than it was 1,000 years ago. There
was a time in our history that women were not valued for anything other than their sexual function,
and they were expected to quietly tumble into the social image men created for them. Racism also was
commonplace and widely accepted, and violence was a casual occurrence of life then. This time
period is known as the Victorian Era. A very widely known children s book today was actually written
during this time period by J.M. Barrie Peter Pan. This novel created for children contains the Victorian
Era s socially accepted ideals relating to sexism, racism, and violence and the physical acts resulting
from the prevalence of these ideas at that time, which are most certainly outdated and considered
inappropriate for children in today s society despite the obviously uninformed popularity that remains
with this tale.
This book displays its sexism quite openly. There is an ongoing battle of two exceedingly different
sides of womanhood throughout the story. It encourages the engagement between a mother like figure
and a harlot. Throughout the novel, all the female characters must either be parental or crave the
companionship of a male character, which often results in jealousy. Wendy and Tinker, being the two
main female characters of the story, represent these two different types of women acceptable in the
Victorian Era.
Wendy, who is a mother like figure to the Lost Boys

The Woman Warrior No Name Woman Summary
In the first chapter of The Woman Warrior, No Name Woman, Kingston tells the story her mother told
her as a teenager about her aunt s untimely death. Throughout the story, many remarks proving the
empowerment of Chinese women are made. In the middle of the story, Kingston s mother stops to say,
Don t humiliate us. You wouldn t like to be forgotten as if you had never been born (Kingston 5). This
is seemingly demeaning, but is actually empowering. It shows that while Chinese women are thought
to be disappointments to be forgotten, they also have to power to determine whether or not everyone
will remember their name. Brave Orchid s words reflect the notion in Chinese society that a woman
has the power to accomplish anything; if she doesn t want to be a humiliation, she won t be, and if she
doesn t want to be forgotten, she will make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It shows that while men cast women off into roles of being incompetent, loyal fools, to have around
for their own pleasure, they are actually strong, resilient beings, who do not let any struggle hold them
down. Instead of speaking out against her rapist, like American women most likely would, Kingston s
aunt remained silent, unable to be shook by the terrors brought on by her never ending rape. While
this may seem meek and fearful, it is actually brave and powerful. Kingston s aunt was an empowered
woman, by not letting her rapist get to her, and by doing as she was told, while continuing on normally
in life. Most people would think that by killing herself, she is actually not empowered. However,
every action a person takes does not have to be thought of as an empowered action for them to be
considered an empowered person. Sometimes, the most empowered people are the ones that slip up
from time to time, and are not afraid to show their vulnerability, because it is human and normal.
Kingston shows this same quality herself in the next

Ww1 Austria-Hungary Research Paper
This essay will attempt to answer the question To what extent is Austria Hungary at fault for causing
the start of World War One? This topic is significant due to the ongoing debate about how WWI
started and because of the debt some countries only recently, have paid off. In 1914, the country to
declare the first war was Austria Hungary s(AH) declaration of war on Serbia. Following this was
Serbia s ally, Russia, who mobilized its troops in preparation, and Germany soon after declaring war
on the russians. As the snowball effect came into place, countries such as France, the United Kingdom
and Belgium followed in declaring different wars amongst each other. This resulted in the start of
World War I. It began in 1914 one of the greatest wars in all of history, ending almost five years after
in November of 1918. The causes of WWI, will continuously spark debates between people, as there
were so many countries involved. This essay will argue that Austria Hungary is mostly to blame for
inducing the beginning of the First World War. Evidence of this appears when looking at crises such as

Thus, Austria s imperialistic aims had become to diminish Serbia s power for the benefit of expanding
their own empire. An example of how they went about this was the Balkan Crisis. The Balkan Crisis
involved countries that wanted to increase their size into more land area. An issue that Austria
Hungary dealt with was that as they expanded the empire struggled with keeping the different ethnic
groups together. A way of distracting from these internal conflicts, was to go to war. The imperialistic
ideas of Austria Hungary contributed to their declaration of war because of their fight for pride. For
the longest time, Austria Hungary and Serbia fought over land and power. For this reason, Austria
Hungary was quick to declare war on Serbia to finally settle the debate of

Analysis Of Gryphon By Charles Baxter
Gryphon is an thrilling fiction story by the funny author Charles Baxter. The story take place in a
classroom in Five Oaks, Michigan and is about an ordinary 6th grade boy, Tommy who encounters a
strange sub named Ms. Ferenczi. The message that Charles Baxter is giving us is that everyone is
different and nothing is wrong with that. Firstly, Ms. Ferenczi doesn t act like the other substitute
teachers in rural Michigan throughout the text. For example, Ms. Ferenczi prefers to eat with the kids
over eating with the teachers in the teachers lounge. Ms. Ferenczi strongly argues That s fine, ... But I
shall continue to eat here, with you children. I prefer it, (p. 51 lines 265 267). This shows that Ms.

Financial Data Analysis Essay
Financial Data Analysis Daphnnee Johnson HCS 577 March 18, 2013 Sharon Gomes Sanders
Financial Data Analysis After reviewing the balance sheet for Patton Fuller Hospital for 2008 and
2009, there are significant differences that are noticeable. The retained earnings (or Net Worth or
Unrestricted Fund Balance ) drastically decreased from 2008 to 2009 (Apollo Group, 2006). The
dollar amount decrease is 209,471, this makes a decrease of over 65%. Long term debt increase to
more than 116% from 2008 to 2009 as well (Apollo Group, 2006). This is a massively huge increase.

This occurred in 2008, but in 2009 in accordance to her will, the hospital received a money donation
from her estate. This $1,000,000 donation is noted as an unrestricted donation (Apollo Group, 2006).
This unrestricted donation is recorded on the Interim Statement of Income in December 2009 (Apollo
Group, 2006). Declines in the stock market and real estate markets resulted in a sharp drop in the
return on investment income. This caused PFCH to reassess the value of its investments and, on their
auditors advice, to write down those assets (Apollo Group, 2006, p. 3). Another reason the number
were so drastically different was because every December Patton Fuller Community Hospital conducts
an annual inventory (Apollo Group, 2006). When the hospital conducted its inventory their expenses
for their supplies were way underestimated by about a million dollars (Apollo Group, 2006). So this
had to be added on as a cost to December s statement. This underestimate of supply expenses made
January to November s reports not correct, so December had to report the actual figures (Apollo
Group, 2006). Therefore, December looked like it was a crazy month for the hospital. Following the
favorable settlement of some managed care contract disputes, net patient revenue increased by 9%
over the previous year, with an average

The Intake Of Synthetic Sugar
Once ingested, sugar causes blood glucose levels to frequently spike and drop. When blood sugar is
unstable, it can lead to headaches, fatigue, and mood swings. Low blood sugar triggers the release of
hormones such as adrenaline, epinephrine, and cortisol, inducing stress. Furthermore, sugar elicits the
release of dopamine, causing it to be somewhat of an addictive substance. Adrenaline and epinephrine
are chemicals which allow the sinoatrial node to fire more frequently, preparing the body for intense
physical activity. Sugar absorption therefore engenders irregular firing of the sinoatrial node, even
when the body is not preparing for physical activity. A normal resting heart rate ranges between 60
100 bpm, but can vary still depending on many factors, including levels of activity and athleticism.
Active heart rate is even more variable, greatly depending on exercise intensity. Generally speaking,
however, a healthy target range is below 220 bpm.
The purpose of this experiment is to find out how the intake of synthetic sugar may have an effect on
both resting and active heart rate. This should allow an understanding of the effects sugar can have on
the body as well as providing insight concerning the negativity towards excessive portions of this
particular substance.
Hypothesis If one consumes a relatively high amount of sugar, then the average rate at which the heart
beats, both in resting and active circumstances, would increase because sugar causes blood glucose

Consequences Of Colonialism By European Nations
Justin Ames
Dr. Alpana Sharma
English 3420

Ou Libere? Are You Free? There have been countless consequences of colonialism by European
nations. The power of the church bent to the desire for land and wealth, warped to justify atrocities
impacting the globe. Unfortunately, there is one consequence that continues to devastate nations
throughout the globe today; violence. To begin to understand the effects we must first understand why
and how we got to the point of no return and the driving factor behind unsolicited and at times, bloody
invasions across the world. This ongoing turmoil and social injustices lead us to a resounding No.

Some of these effects can be seen in the Africa s neighbor Sri Lanka, south of India, as seen through
the eyes of a young boy in the novel Funny Boy by Shyam Selvadurai. As the life of Arjie unfolds in
his home of Sri Lanka, we are driven down many winding roads. The internal struggle of a young boy
trying to come of age in a Tamil family hardened by life after colonization and the racial tension
between the Tamil and the Sinhalese. Under British colonial rule, the majority of the Tamil inhabitants
of Sri Lanka was brought in as slaves with few working within governmental positions. The Sinhalese
people outnumbered and continued to persecute the Tamil population once the British departed. The
following years were similarly as brutal as those once seen during forced enslavement. Although they
had achieved freedom to some degree, the Sinhalese government achieved new heights of corruption
and used many means to continue the oppression and separation of the two races. Many Tamil
families, like Arjie s, accepted the fragile state of affairs, but the animosity from years of violence and
subjugation was deeply imbedded in family culture and values. The gradual transition from steadfast
animosity, to acceptance and questioning of the strains between the two races on a larger scale is scene
across three generations presented to us in the text. The social constructs for the people of Sri Lanka
were built on sand. Although the

Descriptive Speech
When I was six years old, my father would take me his frequent stops to Walmart every week. One
could imagine how repetitive the car ride would be so as a way to make it a little more thrilling, I
would entertain my father by asking him facetious questions. These questions ranged from subjects
like, Why is the sky blue? or Are there bathrooms in Heaven? No matter how childish the question,
my father would always have an elaborate answer that left me with more questions. However, once I
asked my father about the origin of my name, he just answered me with four simple words: We just
liked it. Recently, I ve tried to bog the mind of my mother and try to understand where she got the
name Taylor Ashley from. So, you just liked the name. Like there isn t a story behind it, I asked over
the sounds of my fellow Tuskegee classmates. I m sorry but there ain t no story behind it. I just always
like the name Taylor, baby. My mother always liked the name Taylor, so much so, that when she was
little she wanted the name to be her own. My mother s birth name is Tawanda which to her is deemed
as a ghetto name. I never really understood why she would want to give up a name that left a certain
twang on your tongue after saying it. The only way I could comprehend her reason for this was the
fact that my mother desired a life outside of the New Orleans St.Bernard projects; a life that offered
her more than week old lunch meat and flying roaches as roommates. A girl with the

Analysis Of The Film Bombshell
Not Your Average Coming of Age Story
Nia Scott

The film was released in 2012 and was written, directed, and co produced by Erin Sanger. Bombshell
was shown in numerous film festivals including, The Paris International Lesbian and Feministy Film
Festival in 2015, The Nantucket Film Festival in 2013 and Outfest in 2013. In addition the film won
awards including, Best Director in the 2013 NYU First Run Film Festival in 2013 and Best

The short film, Bombshell, began with a mom helping her daughter get dressed. It is clear that the girl
doesn t like the dress and would prefer to be wearing somethings else. After her mother leaves her
daughter, Daisy and her son, Judd on their own for the evening, we find out that Daisy is a tomboy
who prefers to wear her brother s clothing and cover her fingernails in black sharpie marker. Daisy is
looking forward to watching a firework show on TV later that night. Judd s friends stop by and ask
him to come out with them. They seem like the overpowering, bully type of kids but Judd wants to
hang out with them and is being kept back only by Daisy, so she relents and they all leave together.
First, they stop at a convenience store where the boys send Daisy to do their dirty work for them. She
hilariously goes up to the cashier and asks him for condoms, at first stunned by her question he asks

Hot Stuff Analysis
Many historians regard the 60 s as the decade of positive change, particularly for minority groups. As
a result the 1970s, which followed the socially impactful 60 s, are often seen as the decade where
nothing happened or, more specifically, nothing good happened . Edward Berkowitz attempts to break
this nothing happened stigma through his novel, appropriately named Something Happened. The
decade of the oil crisis, the Watergate scandal, and the Iranian hostage crisis, also provided legislative
progress for many minority groups. Thomas Borstelmann acknowledges the decade s formal equality
but is wary to accept that society was as progressive. Alice Echols however, asserts that the decade s
dance phenomenon expanded social equality, in her novel Hot Stuff. Echols and Berkowitz
unanimously feel the 70 s made way for increased acceptance of minority groups; despite disagreeing
on which minority groups benefitted. Borstelmann provides a much more skeptical analysis stating the
70s provided formal equality while ...private prejudice and its very real negative impacts still endured
Alice Echols applauds the influence the 70s had on inclusion of previously underrepresented groups;
women, homosexuals and African Americans. The 1970s are associated with identity politics, but they
were also a time when numbers of gay men, African Americans, and women ditched predictable social
script. Echols analysis of the decade is presented through the lens of her own

Ptsd Is An Abbreviation For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder...
Every year there are well over 7 million cases of PTSD that are announced (Kledzik). A small
percentage of the people on Earth at some point in their life span will have some form of PTSD. A
solution that will be able to help these people is commonly referred to as man s best friend. For many
years PTSD dogs have been useful to relieve the severe symptoms of this disorder. They have proven
themselves to be more than just an animal. Post traumatic stress disorder dogs are far beyond just man
s best friend; they protect the protectors far after the wars end. First of all, what exactly is PTSD?
PTSD is an abbreviation for post traumatic stress disorder. One website says that the people that have
this disorder developed it from being in a situation that was threatening or terrifying ( Post Traumatic
Stress Disorder ). This disorder does not only happen with veterans; PTSD can develop in anyone who
has been assaulted, involved in any kind of accident, abuse, tragic loss of a close person, or hurricane
victims. There are many symptoms that can be seen in people who have this disorder; however, the
symptoms can be different between adults and children. In a different article by the Nebraska
Department of Veterans Affairs they mentioned:
Although PTSD symptoms can begin right after a traumatic event, PTSD is not diagnosed unless the
symptoms last for at least one month, and either cause significant distress or interfere with work or
home life. In order to be diagnosed with PTSD,

The European Union Essay Introduction In the course of fifty years, the European Union has expanded from six countries united under economic treaties to a large collective of twenty five sovereign nations. Maintaining the union within such a large group has grown more difficult as numerous treaties have been drafted to control the governance of the European Union. To reduce the number of treaties in the union, the convention decided to draft a Constitution, which now moves through the process of ratification in each of the sovereign nations. The Constitution works to set up a basis for the expansion of the Union and the requirements that need to be met when a country seeks entry into the Union. The proposal limited the life span of the treaty to fifty years, meaning it would expire in 2002. The treaty was the first significant step towards European integration going beyond intergovernmentalism, establishing a supranational authority whose independent institutions had the power to bind its constituent member States . From there, the countries decided to expand their connections with the Treaty of Rome in 1957. This treaty created the European Atomic Energy Community and the European Economic Community, both of which helped strengthen economic ties between the countries. The member states strove to create a common market amongst themselves by removing trade barriers1. This common market was created slowly with a lengthy transitional period, during which tariff barriers would be removed and a common external customs tariff set up 2. It was at this point that the High Authority transformed into the Commission, an executive authority within the treaties. The Parliamentary Assembly, Court of Justice and Council of Ministers each then evolved by 1967. In 1992, the Treaty of Maastricht formally created the European Union through new forms of collaboration in inter governmental affairs of defense and justice1. One of the original goals for the European Union was to spread jurisdiction in countries to help combat international crime organizations and terrorist movements. The expanded ... The epileptic flashing is unstartling as more authorize forces speed towards the protest; their sirens blare begging for attention. People of various races, religions, and ethnic backgrounds are in attendance with passionate concerns over the future prosperity and equality of the country that belongs to them too. Amongst the crowd, people carry cardboard signs that ache their arms, some stomp with the iconic two finger symbol of peace, while others spectate from their high rise apartments, cheering and waving their support. The protest is mass with many differing and numerous causes of dissatisfaction, but a commonly shared opinion causes the underlying discontent: the president elect is not supportive of the multiple demographics that compose the United States. There is a feeling of underrepresentation from these minority groups who have been long overlooked in politics. The protest is not a cry for help but a demand for change. The massive police force surrounds the protesters attempting to block their march. Malcolm X s Use Of Rhetorical Patterns In My First Conk Rhetorical Patterns in My First Conk In the excerpt from, The Autobiography of Malcolm X (1994) , titled, My First Conk , Malcolm X used the rhetorical pattern of description to paint a picture of the scene in the reader s mind, he used process to thoughtfully describe each step and build suspense, and finally, he used narration to connect with the readers. Malcolm X used the device of description in his autobiography in order to paint a picture in the reader s mind so that one can better understand the context, the overall situation, and in this case, the result of his project. An example of his use of description is in paragraph 17, where Malcolm wrote, And on top of my head was this thick, smooth sheen of shining red hair real red as straight as any white man s . This is an example of description because it uses expressive word choice which helps one to have a thorough understanding of how the author wants to portray the scene. Vasquez defines a world war as: A large scale severe war among major states that involves the leading states at some point in the war and most of the major states in a struggle to resolve the most fundamental issues on the global political agenda (Vasquez). The Second World War s fundamental issues mostly revolved around territorial disputes. These disputes over areas such as Poland s Danzig, the Rhineland, Anschluss, and the Sudetenland drove the start of the war. Overall the essay used the theory to show that World War II followed the pattern of behavior roughly consistent with other war of its type. The Second World War onset was brought about military buildups, repeated crises, and expanded through the making of allies. Hitler s foreign policy and lack of diplomacy were another big reason that the Second World War occurred. Animals were usually also highly symbolic figures in Egyptian art, however the Egyptians did not worship animals, the animals were used as powerful symbols for the gods in which they worshiped, the use of the jackal portrayed the ideals of death. As the jackal itself was strongly associated with the cemeteries of ancient Egypt, it was a creature whose scavenging habits threatened the preservation of the body, in an effort to counter this threat and employ it for protection the jackal head was a symbol for Anubis. The distinct black colour of Anubis, was symbolic not of the jackals skin but that of rotting flesh and the fertility of the black soil of the Nile Valley which symbolized that of rebirth, as shown in the artwork below. Analyzing The Primary Features Of Eukaryotic Cells Jonathan Bowers and Bo Fisher Mrs. Li Ko September 15, 2015 Life 120L Lab Report 1 Abstract The objective of this lab was to observe prepared bacterial cells and to observe and describe the primary features of eukaryotic cells. Also, we investigated the effect of concentration gradient and temperature on the rate of osmosis in an artificial system. Finally, we investigated the effect of solute concentration on the tonicity of cells in plant tissue and Elodea. The purpose of our experiments was to find out whether the effect of concentration gradient on the rate of osmosis had a greater effect than temperature on the rate of osmosis. The purpose of the Elodea experiment was to see if a five percent solution of sodium chloride or distilled water effected the structure of the Elodea. To observe the primary features of a eukaryotic cell we used a compound microscope. We tested the effect concentration gradients had on the rate of osmosis two ways: with potato tissue and with dialysis tubes. We used potato slices, paper towels, bowls, sodium chloride (at different concentration levels), and a scale to test potato tissue. We used dialysis tubing, sucrose solution (10% and 40% concentration gradients), plastic clips, bags, distilled water, and a scale to test the rate of osmosis with dialysis tubes. To test the solute concentration on the tonicity of cells in plant tissue and Elodea, we used Elodea, water, sodium chloride solution, tap water, a coverslip, and Kimwipe ... Fate vs. Fortuna, knowledge vs. experience and love vs. hate all embody Chaucer s famous work. These contrasting themes are an integral part of the complexity and sophistication of the book, as they provide for an ironic dichotomy to the creative plot development and undermine the superficial assumptions that might be made. Others like writer Victoria Wickham argue the most popular belief, that the Prioress?s bigotry is without question and readers should be more concerned about the degree rather than the fact itself. But there is another possibility. Edwards and Spector, two prominent medieval scholars, put aside the issue of racism temporarily and instead offer an alternative interpretation on the very nature of Chaucer?s love hate contradiction in the Prioress?s tale. They argue that the love vs. hate contradiction is not dependent on outside forces, but is actually an internal conflict within the Prioress herself. Consequently, the individuals and subsequent groups in her tale are not specific characters but culturally influenced manifestations representing separate issues. In this way her personality becomes the allegory of her tale, making specific references within her story irrelevant to her true attitude. In this writer?s opinion, popular attitudes on the nature of the love hate contradiction in the Prioress?s tale are wrong; Edwards and Stevens help prove this. This could make him feel quite isolated or bare if you will as it s just a trench filling with gas, against him using impaired vision, touch and smell to try and escape. The fact that Sassoon tells us that the soldier is fifty feet below emphasizes really how far away the soldier is from above ground where the fight is taking place. Again, this shows the reader exactly how isolated the soldier really is. In fact, he s so isolated that the fight is actually described as The rosy gloom of battle overhead. Now while this may not be a particularly positive description, it doesn t make the battle sound overwhelmingly bad. The reader knows that actually, it s bound to be a horrible, bloody battle. But to the soldier, he would probably give anything to be up there fighting rather than down in the darkness trying to escape death. This causes the reader to sympathize with the soldier as his best option at that time would be to be up there, risking his life in a battle. Tripping, he grabbed the wall is a very interesting way to start a line as again, Sassoon has used a verb at the beginning. Just like at the start of the poem when Groping was used, it has the same effect of showing the reader that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There was a time in our history that women were not valued for anything other than their sexual function, and they were expected to quietly tumble into the social image men created for them. Racism also was commonplace and widely accepted, and violence was a casual occurrence of life then. This time period is known as the Victorian Era. A very widely known children s book today was actually written during this time period by J.M. Barrie Peter Pan. This novel created for children contains the Victorian Era s socially accepted ideals relating to sexism, racism, and violence and the physical acts resulting from the prevalence of these ideas at that time, which are most certainly outdated and considered inappropriate for children in today s society despite the obviously uninformed popularity that remains with this tale. This book displays its sexism quite openly. There is an ongoing battle of two exceedingly different sides of womanhood throughout the story. It encourages the engagement between a mother like figure and a harlot. Throughout the novel, all the female characters must either be parental or crave the companionship of a male character, which often results in jealousy. • 26. The Intake Of Synthetic Sugar Once ingested, sugar causes blood glucose levels to frequently spike and drop. When blood sugar is unstable, it can lead to headaches, fatigue, and mood swings. Low blood sugar triggers the release of hormones such as adrenaline, epinephrine, and cortisol, inducing stress. Furthermore, sugar elicits the release of dopamine, causing it to be somewhat of an addictive substance. Adrenaline and epinephrine are chemicals which allow the sinoatrial node to fire more frequently, preparing the body for intense physical activity. Sugar absorption therefore engenders irregular firing of the sinoatrial node, even when the body is not preparing for physical activity. A normal resting heart rate ranges between 60 100 bpm, but can vary still depending on many factors, including levels of activity and athleticism. Active heart rate is even more variable, greatly depending on exercise intensity. Generally speaking, however, a healthy target range is below 220 bpm. The purpose of this experiment is to find out how the intake of synthetic sugar may have an effect on both resting and active heart rate. This should allow an understanding of the effects sugar can have on the body as well as providing insight concerning the negativity towards excessive portions of this particular substance.
