Intercultural Communication Essay
Communication can be performed through the utilisation of languages, such as English. Presently,
English has become a favourable and prominent tool for interaction among people of different cultural
backgrounds. The high demand in acquiring English for fields such as international politics, science
and technology has led to the global spread of the language. Consequently, English is recognised as an
international language, and its ownership is considered to be denationalised and renationalised. The
understanding of this ownership status is crucial in establishing an effective practice of intercultural
communication, by acknowledging the variations of English and cultural differences in
communication styles within classroom and business contexts.
First, since English has become an international language, its ownership is regarded as denationalised
and renationalised. The concept of denationalisation proposed by Smith suggests that English is no
longer just owned by countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States, but by various
other countries around the world that also use the language. Kachru also argued that a global English
should not only be restricted to the official use by colonial countries of the United Kingdom and the
United States, and it is not a necessity to internalise the native speakers norms. It is said that the
process of denationalisation results in renationalisation, in which, according to McKay, involves
English localisation the

Edith Cowan Legacy
FREEDOM AND FAIRNESS The legacy of Edith Cowan Edith Cowan, Australia s first female
member of parliament, was a compelling woman. She had made many significant contributions to
Australia. What do we really know about her and what made her an Australian Hero? Tran Truong
reports on her legacy. Money is something that we use every day to buy either essentials or luxuries.
However, I feel that not many of us would notice who those people are on the banknotes and what
significant contributions they had made to be on it. For instance, if we look at the Australian 50 dollars
banknote above, we see David Unaipon (David Ngunaitponi), a prominent Aboriginal who has been
portrayed on the front of our Australian national currency since 1995. He was a particularly intelligent
man, who was reputable as an inventor and the first Indigenous author, who wrote newspaper articles
to fight for Indigenous studies and their rights. Another prominent figure on the reverse side of the
note is Edith Cowan. She was well known as an Australian disputant who stood up for women s and
children s welfares also rights. She was also the first female to be elected to the Legislative Assembly
of Western Australia as a member of the Nationalist Party and became the first Australian female ...

The Effects Of Radiation Exposure On The Environment
Throughout history, populations have been affected by the devastating effects of radiation disasters.
Chernobyl in 1986 and Fukushima in 2011 are a few radiation disasters that will be highlighted.
Chernobyl could be argued as one of the worst incidents of radiation exposure to the general public.
Aspects of this paper include background on accidents, the effects of the radiation exposure, and the
impact of the population living within the areas. As well as the cost, not only economically but
environmentally. Much can be learned from these incidents on a government and individual level.
Governments need to understand the magnitude of such a disaster and how to help those affected
most. While individuals should be more aware of the dangers of radiation exposure and how their
living situations may put them at a higher risk. The public needs to be informed and educated on how
accidents like these affect their lives. Chernobyl was the largest uncontrolled radioactive release ever
recorded for any civilian operation. Chernobyl had four reactors, which were run on low power
making them very unstable. There was a huge power surge which increased the heat in reactor number
four. The increased heat set off a chain of events that couldn t be controlled. Pipes began to rupture as
well making the prefect condition for two major explosions. Most other nuclear power plants have a
containment enclosure, but Chernobyl did not. Since there was no enclosure this resulted in
radioactive

The Failure Of Sanitation Intervention
a. Diffusion of Innovation is explanatory to the failure of sanitation intervention in Peru.
Innovation refers to an idea, practice or object that is perceived as new by an individual or other unit
of adoption. In this case, the innovation is the idea of sanitation which is perceived as new by this
specific population.
There are five characteristics of the innovation: Relative Advantage, Compatibility, Complexity,
Trialability and Observability. Sanitation is obviously better than non sanitation for reducing
contagious diseases, which refers to Relative Advantage. Compatibility could be the most influential
factor for the failure, because sanitation is not compatible with the intended users perceived needs or
value that boiled water is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, boiling water before use can kill the harmful microbes, burning garbage can prevent
contamination of water, and installing latrines can improve personal hygienic status. As a result, the
people form a favorable attitude, like sanitation is easy to apply and reducing risks of getting sick,
toward the innovation (though in this case they formed an unfavorable attitude, which need to be
changed from stigma to social norms). Then, people engage in sanitation that lead to a choice to adopt
this innovation by tailoring the sanitation to specific cultural context. After adaptation, people put
sanitation into use. Finally, the interventionists evaluate the results of sanitation. To aim at particular
groups of individuals, identification of five adopter categories is also important: innovators, early
adopters, early majority adopters, late majority adopters and laggards.
There are six stages of diffusion process: Innovation Development, Adoption, Implementation,
Maintenance, institutionalization, and sustainability. During the innovation development phase, Social
Marketing (which would be discussed in next question) can be applied to design, target, refine and
implement the sanitation in Peru. In addition, dissemination process is crucial in this case in order to
prevent the stigma of boiling water

Designing A Business Plan For A Future Bed And Breakfast
I am in the process of designing a business plan for a future bed and breakfast that I would like to
open in a couple of years. I would like to purchase some land outside of Austin, TX in order to build
this bed and breakfast. I plan on starting this company with a partner, my younger sister, Mercy. We
want to know if we should start a general partnership, with both of us as a general partner, or a limited
partnership, with me as the general partner and Mercy as the limited partner.
In addition to the type of partnership we are considering establishing, we have already decided that we
will be using the entity theory of partnerships, which regards partnerships as a distinct and separate
entity from either of us, the partners. As such, both Mercy and I will be able to enter into taxable
transactions with the partnership. And this means that the partnership can hold the title to the land, is
not legally liable for our (the partners) debts, and is required to file annual returns using the Form
1065 reporting operation results.
Our main question is that we would like to know what type of debt we should take out in order to
establish this partnership and be able to finance the land in which to build the bed and breakfast. We
want to know, and understand, the difference between recourse debt and non recourse debt and how it
pertains to a partnership as well as to the individual partners. We would also like to know which of
these two types would be the best type of debt to incur

Literary Analysis the Chrysanthemums
Name Professor Course Date: Chrysanthemums: Literary Criticism At the turn of the 20th century,
women were considered inferior to men: they were only required to stay at home, take care of
households and children. The Chrysanthemums , as told by John Steinbeck, is a story of a woman
during that period who tries to change the course of her destiny. In this story, the two fold issues of
femininity and symbolism play a critical part in explaining this helplessness. Steinbeck uses the
narrative to signify the hope for change of the woman as well as her character by illustrating different
similarities between Elisa and her flowers. Readers are able to comprehend how a lady feels when she
is caged within her life, and the struggles to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elisa s life is significantly transformed by the arrival of the tinker who comes with hope, which is also
symbolized by the flowers. At first, this hope is predicted in the setting of the narrative, although it is
subtle. Despite the fact that the valley looks like a closed pot, there are some sharp and positive
yellow; leaves (Steinbeck 175). These bring about an image of encouragement in the midst of
depression. Readers are also able to see, through Elisa s change of attitude, how she puts her hope in
the pot of chrysanthemum that she gives to the stranger. At fist, she is repulsive to the tinker and
shows little concern for him and keeps some distance from him. She looks at him irritably as her eyes
move with resistance (Steinbeck 179) when the tinker requests to offer repair services for any of her
broken item. However, this resistance changes from her face when he begins to talk about the
chrysanthemums. She starts to gain more interest: Her eyes (brighten) and (become) alert and eager
(Steinbeck 180). In addition, she opens one of the men clothes that she is wearing and makes her heart
open to reality. From removing the gloves, to destroying the tattered hat, and shaking her beautiful
hair, Elisa seems to be blossoming like a flower (Steinbeck 179 180). These images prove to the
readers that the arrival of the tinker, and his interest in the flowers as well as his talk of love and life of

Airway Obstruction In COPD
The presence of airflow obstruction which is largely irreversible is a major feature of COPD. It is
proposed to be the result of a combination of small airways narrowing, airway wall inflammation [89]
and emphysema related loss of lung elastic recoil [1, 90, 91]. The pathologic features of COPD are
structural changes of the lung, including emphysema and small airway remodelling [92]. Small airway
remodelling in COPD is characterized by adventitial fibrosis and mucus cell hyperplasia, and may
involve increased airway smooth muscle (ASM) mass, particularly in severe disease [92 96]. This is
indicated by persistent infiltration of inflammatory cells, including macrophages, neutrophils and T
and B lymphocytes in the airway wall [94 96]. Small airway remodelling could also result from direct
effects of CS and LPS exposure on structural cells of the airway wall, independent of inflammation
[9]. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Rise Of Poe By Edgar Allan Poe
The Rise of Poe
The words people use and how they use them holds so much power within themselves. It seems that,
people are always searching for the right words to express their true emotions towards a certain
subject. Artists and authors manage to make a living off of knowing how to use the right words to
reach through to their platform. Though within his time, Edgar Allan Poe did not have an established
platform and was seen as estranged; he still dabbled as an author and has made many famous short
stories and poems that we enjoy to this day. Poe uses tone, diction, imagery, symbolism, elements of
the supernatural, and allusions to illustrate his themes of sorrow, madness, revenge, and uses these to
project and give refuge to his inner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whenever the clocked chimed, the guests were filled with fear that they could be next, and everything
that is happening at that moment is temporary... such as their short lived happiness and life span. No
matter how much they try to ignore and escape what s happening outside the walls of Prince Prospero
s home, it still ends up getting them in the end. Much like Tuberculosis, where there was no cure and
death was inevitable. He showcases all the different stages of living to dying while, Prince Prospero
and the Red Death, go through the stages of acceptance backwards leading to the manifestation of Poe
s inner demons.
Certainly to even establish the tone one has to choose their diction. Edgar Allan Poe, as said before,
had a way of describing certain items and events. He did so in a way, that the reader is physically there
or even being told in depth from a person that s being conversed with. Many times, the speaker within
the story starts off with, Yet, mad am I not... (271) or even, but why will you say that I am mad? (228)
The speaker poses these rhetorical questions that make you question their psychosis. The 3rd person
point of view surely gives rise, to giving the readers the task of analyzing and choosing whether to
side with the speaker or not. Edgar Allan Poe, was not so sane himself, either. Poe was known for
being a drunk, a gambler, and certainly struggled with so much to the depths that it reflected enough in
his stories to

What Is The Mood Of The Last Chapter Of Remembrance By...
The Speaker s of Remembrance and Wuthering Heights react differently for the same struggle. The
tone of the last stanza of Remembrance is similar to the tone of the last chapter of Wuthering Heights.
Both works have a sullen mood and each speaker wants to move on from their memories. The way
Emily Bronte wrote the last stanza mirrors the feelings of Heathcliff in the last chapter of Wuthering
Heights. Both works seem to be tied together, as Remembrance reflects the feelings of Heathcliff, a
main character of the novel. While the reactions are different, the characters feelings addressed in
Remembrance and Wuthering Heights can relate to one another. Not do the characters have different
conclusions of what they should do, they also have different assumptions about themselves in the end.

The loved ones of both are gone and they do not know whom to turn to. This sets a melancholy tone to
each work and allows the reader to understand what they are feeling. However, though they feel the
same, both speaker s seem to address their feelings differently from each other. While the speaker in
Remembrance chooses to deal with her pain, Heathcliff takes the opposite path.
Emily Bronte wrote both characters as feeling lost and upset in their life, however, the outcome for
each is quite different. Though the speaker of Remembrance feels upset and empty, she does not let
that overtake her and continues living. On the other hand, Heathcliff lets his emotions control his
actions and allows it to make decisions for him. Unfortunately, Heathcliff stopped eating and allowed
himself to get sick, which eventually killed him. They express their feelings differently, despite going

User Friendly Budget
On January 14, 2015 the Local Finance Board (LFB), which is part of the Division of Local
Government Services, adopted regulations that require municipalities in the State of New Jersey to
complete on an annual basis a User Friendly Budget document. As a result of this requirement, as of
fiscal year 2015, New Jersey municipalities must submit to the Division of Local Government
Services a User Friendly Budget as part of their annual budget package. Due this requirement, as a
member of the Department of Local Government Services, I am developing a strategic research plan

These three objectives are: i) to summarize the annual municipal budgets; ii) to display information on
key cost drivers; and iii) to better explain the municipal budget s impact on local property taxes. As
described by the LFB, these objectives were adopted to address the fact that local municipality
budgets tend to be complicated and confusing and can run upwards of 50 or more pages. Creation of
the User Friendly Budget was intended to result in a simplified presentation of the actual municipal
budget. Information included in the User Friendly Budget consists, among other items, of the tax
impact, revenue summary, appropriation summary, structural imbalances, tax assessment, and
personnel costs. This information is designed to give citizens a brief understanding of the how a local
municipal budget is going to operate based on revenue and expenditures for the coming fiscal year. In
creating this research project, a logic model was used to demonstrate the resources, activities and
outputs that are necessary in order to analyze the two proposed hypotheses. The resources in each
municipality involved in the creation of a User Friendly budget include the LFB which required the
use of User Friendly Budgets, the local municipal mayor, town council members and Chief Financial
Officer (CFO), all of whom create the budget, and local citizens who provide this group feedback on
any proposed budget. Consequently, these are the resources that must be involved in the analysis of
the two

Argumentative Essay About Kobe Bryant
As it stands today, Kobe Bryant is the best basketball player to have ever played the game. Some
argue that Michael Jordan was better, but he was not. Some argue that Lebron James is better, but he is
not. To compare him to the men who played the center position is a waste of time. Obviously
Shaquille O Neal, Wilt Chamberlain, and Kareem Abdul Jabbar were more dominant. They were
freaks of nature. What Kobe had that set him apart from everyone else was a skill set and mentality
that is unmatched. Kobe is the best player first and foremost because he was a Los Angeles Laker for
twenty years. Some may say that my bias towards Kobe as a Laker fan discredits my argument, but it
does not. First, a list of his accomplishments. Kobe was drafted out of highschool at the age of
seventeen, broke into the league by winning the Slam Dunk contest in his rookie season, and by age of
twenty five he was a three time world champion. He was the youngest person to be named a NBAAll
Star at the age of nineteen. The combination of his talents with the talents of Shaquille O Neal was the
greatest one two punch of all time. That is an objective fact. Shaq himself has even admitted that had
the duo stayed together after the 2004 season, they most certainly would have gone on to win
additional world championships, but Kobe didn t need Shaq. When it was all said and done, Kobe
ended up with five rings to his name to O Neals four all five with the Lakers I might add. I won t lie,

Journal Entry #2
David Sedaris s Remembering My Childhood on the Continent of
Africa Journal Response In the comparison and contrast essay, Remembering My Childhood on the
Continent of Africa, by David Sedaris, the author talks about the jealousy he feels towards the
excitement present in his friend Hugh s life. David Sedaris explores the contrast in the dullness of his
own childhood with the adventurous lifestyle of his friend s childhood. Using descriptions, personal
experiences of his friend and himself, and language, Sedaris explains why he takes satisfaction in
passing his friend s stories as though they were his own since the stories were more interesting. The
field trips, environment, and activities all contribute in the development of the difference in lifestyle
between them. The subject of Sedaris s comparison and contrast in this essay is to show the aspects of
both Hugh and the author s childhood, that would cause the author to feel proud using his friend s
stories as his own. For instance, the author states that, When I was young I went to the theater at the
nearby shopping center and watched a movie about a talking Volkswagen... Like me, Hugh saw the
movie by himself on a weekend afternoon. Unlike me, he left the theater two hours later, to find a
dead man hanging from a telephone pole at the far end of the unpaved parking lot (Sedaris 182). The
quote above indicates that the author is being naïve and childish. No boy or child who is as young as
he was should feel pleasure in seeing a dead person. The thesis of this essay is as follows, Certain
events are parallel, but compared with Hugh s, my childhood was unspeakably dull. When I was seven
years old, my family moved to North Carolina. We had a collie and a house cat. When he was seven
years old, Hugh s family moved to the Congo. They had a monkey and two horses named Charlie and
Satan. I threw stones at stop signs. Hugh threw stones at crocodiles (Sedaris 181). This clearly informs
the reader that the author is envious of Hugh s childhood since his was extremely boring. Additionally,
the thesis is stated and not implied because the author openly asserts that, When I m told such stories,

The Legal Consciousness Of Chinese Sex Workers
The Legal Consciousness of Chinese Sex Workers in Relation to Abuse and Unjust Treatment
Professor Margaret L. Boittin s research mainly focuses on areas such as Chinese law, human
trafficking and prostitution. In the article Abuse and the Legal Consciousness of Se Workers in China,
she outlines the lifestyle of a prostitute and all the major obstacles that follow. Boittin helps the reader
interpret the relationship of Chinese sex workers to their society and laws. The article puts importance
towards the legal consciousness of Chinese sex workers and through which events their relationship
with the law is shaped. The author uses methods such as legal consciousness throughout the article to
finally reveal how marginalized individuals understand their relationship with the law. The author
argues that the experiences that Chinese sex workers undergo, shape their dimension of legal
consciousness. Legal consciousness, which will be explained further into the essay, is the relationship
an individual has with the law. More specifically, where they think they stand in relation to the law.
The three subject potions of legal consciousness are with the law, before the law, and against the law.
Chinese sex workers subject themselves to the position of against the law . They recognize the unfair
treatment and the concept of privilege and power. There is also an element of resistance from their
part. For example, the author says that, a marginalized person who is a lawbreaker or

Media Violence Against Women Essay
Media Violence Against Women
In the United States, as well as throughout the majority of the world, people are bombarded with
information on a daily basis. The majority of the information that it seen or heard is a direct result of
someone aiming the information at the masses. Whether it is a company that would like us to buy it s
product, or a newspaper that would have us believe a certain fact that they are reporting, someone has
decided how the information will be presented. This notion brings me to the issue of how our society
perpetuates violence against women through the use of the media and television shows. I would argue
that, because we are socialized on a daily basis to believe certain ideas, this same process ... Show

Yet,
often it is aimed toward a particular group of people, mainly women. It is primarily how these images
are presented that leads me to believe that they are contributing to a larger problem.
One example of this problem is the recent broadcasting of crimes within schools. In her article,
Collective Silence for Collective Violence in Feminista.com, Dorothy Lemmey questions the gender
neutral terminology that is used when news agencies report these incidences. In Kentucky, a 14 year
old drew a gun and killed 3 students ...all the dead are female, killed by boys. She examines the idea
that we are much more apt to blame the obvious problems such as the breakdown of family values ,
gun control, pervasive violence, adolescent hormones....and even a lack of bonding at infancy.
However, when this story was reported there was no mention of the sex of any of the victims or how
the victims knew their killers. She goes on to point out that it is more likely that violence toward
women will not change while we are still in a mind frame of denial. This article made a very good
point. How can we possibly address a problem when, for whatever reason, the media refuses to give
all of the facts. It is, in essence, hiding the true motives of a particularly heinous crime, and not calling
it what it is....Violence against women.
It would also appear that the media plays a significant role in how women view the violence that is

The Impact Of Gratitude On Wellbeing
The Impact of Gratitude on Wellbeing
In a world that seeks answers to everything, people strive for perfection by working on their strengths
and weaknesses. With technological advantages, people aim to live as long as possible with optimal
functioning in the body and mind. It has been a goal of human existence to maintain ourselves in any
way we can. One way this is done is through gratitude, which has been regarded as universally
valuable, tracing back to the beginning of time. Ever since the 1930s, researchers have tried to
measure how effectively gratitude helps people of all backgrounds (Bono, Emmons, McCullough,
2004). Cultures define gratitude based on the way they perceive it. Western society regards gratitude
as something that is needed during certain times, while poorer societies might rely on gratitude to help
them survive. Although gratitude has different meanings, it has been utilized for maintaining
wellbeing. It has become a question of how well gratitude impacts our wellbeing. However, before we
can understand this relationship, we must define wellbeing.
Wellbeing
Wellbeing, synonymous with happiness, has been defined as the way people describe their lives and
what matters to them (Diener, Lukas, Oishi, 2002). Since it is a person s judgment over their own life,
it is subjective. Thus, it should be understood that wellbeing is subjective, as happiness has a different
meaning for everyone. It has been questioned to what extent wellbeing is affected by

The Battles of Lexington and Concord occurred on 19 April 1775 between the British Regulars and
the Patriot Militia, also known today as Americans, in the Massachusetts towns of Lexington and
Concord. The Battles of Lexington and Concord is often referred to as the Shot Heard Around the
World and the beginning of the American Revolutionary War (Fischer, 1994). The Battles of
Lexington and Concord consisted of in four events: the skirmish in Lexington between the British
Regulars and the Lexington Training Band, the search and seizure of arms, munitions and military

General Gage understood that detaining the key leaders would not prove fruitful and therefore
changed the mission to strictly searching for and seizing arms, munitions, supplies, and military

to not brief his soldiers as to what the exact mission would be. General Gage also appointed Major
John Pitcairn as the Executive Officer for the mission. The initial mission would consist of
approximately 700 British Regulars, who were pulled from 11 of General Gage s 13 infantry

Upcoming Movies Worth a Peak
7 Upcoming Movies That Are Worth a Peek
Compared with tons of movies that are action packed, this year is no different. As with an army
setting, this time it goes way beyond real life: it extends to science fiction, animation, and an advanced
lookout with science. With so many Hollywood movies to be released, which among them could be
interesting to watch? Here I compiled my own list, which of course may be entirely different to
another. Here I present my views on the following, from its trailers and info gathered.
7 Sci Fi series Transformers 4: Age of Extinction
Let s start off with a hit movie series, Transformers. Set 4 years after the previous movie, this is the
time when the Transformers are no longer needed, or more so, felt the need to wipe them out. Then all
the while, Optimus Prime was found by a struggling inventor. By that the latter convinces Optimus
Prime that he can still do something for mankind. This also featured the newest kind of Transformers,
the Dinobots, with Grimlock featured in the trailer as a T Rex. We can never be sure what kind of roles
they will play, so if one wants to find out first is to go see the movie for itself.
6 Romance The Fault in Our Stars
Following tons of previous books turned into movies, like the The Wolf of Wall Street , Hunger
Games trilogy and the more related to romance genre The Perks of Being a Wallflower . This seems to
be quite faithful to the book, though we ll have to see. On a lighter note, I do agree

Fodor s Functionalism Essay
Fodor s Functionalism
Fodor begins his article on the mind body problem with a review of the current theories of dualism
and materialism. According to dualism, the mind and body are two separate entities with the body
being physical and the mind being nonphysical. If this is the case, though, then there can be no
interaction between the two. The mind could not influence anything physical without violating the
laws of physics. The materialist theory, on the other hand, states that the mind is not distinct from the
physical. In fact, supporters of the materialist theory believe that behavior does not have mental

status of the system at a given time.
Based on the definition of functionalism, the mental processes of a human are not distinct from the
systemic processes of a machine. Mental processes are defined as an operation on symbols to yield
certain results. Thus, if the same symbols yielded the same results in two separate systems, then the
mental states can be seen as similar, or even identical. Along this vein, consider a computer
programmed with the same reasoning process as a mind. When the input B is entered, the output
depends both upon B and upon the state of the system resulting from the computation of A. If the
computer was programmed with the exact same reasoning process as a mind, then the result would be
the same. Thus, the mental state of the mind would be indistinguishable from the systemic state of the
computer. The computer metaphor upholds the theory of functionalism because the output is the result
of interaction between the input and the current state of the system. The metaphor also demonstrates
the insignificance of the physical state of the system when determining whether two mental states are
alike. Thus, it shows that the processes, rather than the composition, of the system determine the
mental state.
Searle disagrees with the view that the physical composition of the system does not influence the
mental state of the

What is significant about developments in Post Cold War IR theory?
This essay will explore the significance of developments in post Cold War International Relations
theory. It wasn t surprising that the collapse of the Soviet bloc, arguably the third greatest cataclysm of
the Twentieth Century and an event which drew a line under the Two World Wars, would pose some
serious theoretical questions for International Relations. In order to do this the essay will be broken
down into two sections. The first will analyse globalisation and the effect of it on Realism. The second
the will analyse culture and its effect on Liberalism. As a result this will demonstrate, theoretically,
that issues in post Cold War international relations can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Africa and other less developed countries, although not completely opening itself up to globalisation,
is accepting the internet and other telecommunications as an opportunity to gain access to knowledge
and services from around the world in a way that would have been unimaginable previously. The
internet and technologies such as mobile telephony allow developing countries to leapfrog steps in
their development of infrastructure. A poor land line telephone system in the Philippines, for example,
is being rapidly bypassed by mobile phones with internet access. The spread of globalisation on this
scale would have been unthinkable if the Soviet bloc hadn t collapsed opening up new markets and
cultures.
Liberalism, which was very prominent after the First World War (WWI) during the setting up of the
League of Nations, is concerned with the individuals within the state. In other words the state is the
‘servant to the people s thoughts. Francis Fukuyama in his book The End of History and the Last
Man says that he could see no major competing ideology to the ‘liberal idea after the Cold War but
only localised resistance. (Fukuyama 1992: 45 46). During the Cold War cultural differences had to

Classic Is A Classic Essay
Mark Twain, a renowned eighteenth century writer, once said that a classic is something everyone
wants to have read yet no one wants read; those words have never been more true today. Most novels
that are considered classics, especially during their time of release, seem to have a universal theme of
not receiving positive recognition. However, as time went on, people found themselves developing a
taste for such heart tugging tales. Classical novels, because of the language in which they were
written, contain ideas and build skill sets like no other novel today;due to, the originality and
uniqueness of the plot, eternal truths and unrealistic themes, and benefits gained from reading them.
A novel is not dubbed a classic simply based on the number of printings it has undergone or the
languages it has been translated into. Nor is it called a classic because some ... Show more content on

Coincidentally, much of the plot tends to come from personal experiences the authors themselves have
faced. For example, in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice, the character Mr. Darcy was based on
Austen s own ill fated love. If a classical novel could have been written twice, then it would have no
chance of withstanding the tests of time. One would eventually overshadow the other. All classics
share the accomplishment of overcoming the obstacles that come with an ever changing world. The
works of Bronte, Austen, Hardy, Tolstoy, and Wilde are all classics; however, not one is the same as
the other. Despite those who have tried to recreate them with nonsensical parodies, The classics are
classics because they are foolproof. Plagiarism enhances them.... A classic, therefore, sustains its
impact over time, regardless of the ways in which it is or might be adapted. The uniqueness of most
classical novels come from the fact that centuries after their publication, they have yet to finish what
they were saying; however, modern novels cannot say it for

Blackberry Picking Essay
Blackberry Picking
Blackberry picking is about greed, growing up, how we struggle in life and how pleasure can be taken
away from us very quickly. Heaney writes retrospectively, about the times he as a child would go
blackberry picking every year, as a metaphor for these experiences.
The first stanza of the poem is mostly quite positive and enthusiastic. The first part of the stanza
describes the the ripening of the berries, given heavy rain and sun for a full week, the blackberries
would ripen . He also gives us an image of the berries.
Heaney uses the metaphor a glossy purple clot for the ripe berries, and the similie hard as a knot for
the unripe berries. When you say

This is implying that nature is going against the children and fighting back, using the briars and wet
grass to bleach and scratch their boots, as trying to stop the children from raping and pillaging the

The children even took berries that were unripe, With green ones .
This heavily suggests greed, as they are even hoarding the berries that aren t ripe yet. On top big dark
blobs burned like a plate of eyes , the use of the word burned is suggesting pain, torment and hell felt
by the berries, also it is as if the berries are accusing the children of murder, watching them like a plate

are full of thorn pricks and stained with berry juice. palms sticky as Bluebeard s this reference to

The second stanza describes how the berries die and rot, lovely canfuls smelt of rot . The rat grey

Management styles
Generally, workers provide plans, methods, reports, etc, can be complicated and time consuming. In
order to achieve a particular goal, gathering information required can take a long time. In addition, in
a formal and sometimes very rigid hierarchical structure, time, deadlines and efficiency are secondary
to compare with detail, rigorous logic and perfection of form. However, Spain is no longer the sleepy
country it once was. Although the Spanish tardiness of time perception is not regarded as inexcusable,
meetings often start on time especially in Barcelona and Madrid.
Titles in Spain are very important. The highest ones such as vice president are normally reserved for
very senior executive level positions. They should not be used as casually as they are in the America.
Rewards and compliments are usually not given publicly in Spain (Going Global Career Guides.
Spain, 2006).
Boss and subordinate relations
In Spain, the rank has its privileges. Spaniards always do business with the most important people
because of their pride and self importance. Also there is a rigid chain of command that must be
respected. Whatever the field you are in, you must follow a hierarchy which is a proper way for
communicating with particular individuals and an expected procedure.

A Summary On Las Poli
I. INTRODUCCION

much familiarized with the position of each key and comfortable with pressing the keys without lifting

receive any kind of instruction. The first thing I did was to search for YouTube videos because it is an
excellent choice to learn almost anything, not just instruments. YouTube not only teaches the viewers
by demonstrating on how to complete a particular task, but also uses videos to help the viewers
visualize what is going on. There was a variety of piano videos that were made specifically for
beginners like me. There was also variation between each videos depending on who the instructor was
and in which angle it was shot. Generally, I chose the videos that contained a well experienced
instructor instead of an amateur, and a good camera angle that clearly showed all the piano keys. After
this learning experience, I am confident that I am no longer a beginner. Although instructions from the
videos were easy to follow, there were still some challenges that I encountered during my practices
that could not be solved by the internet resources entirely. Having questions meant that I would have
to comment on the video and wait for an answer or look for a new video in order to find solution.

To What Extent Was Ancient Athens A Democracy Dbq
Facts and information lead to the fact that Athens truly was a democracy. First of all, what is a
democracy? A democracy is a form of government that the people of that state or country run. To
prove that ancient Athens actually was a democracy, here are three pieces of evidence to prove so.
Unlike our government, the people of Athens ran their government, compared to our government,
where we elect representatives to run our government for us. First, democracy is the rule of the whole
of the people, excluding minors and maniacs only (Doc D). The only people who had a say in the
Athenian government were the male citizens. Women, children, and slave had no say whatsoever. The
males had all the say on what they felt the city state needed in

Texas Anti Marijuana Laws Should Be Banned
Texas has had a long history of being a state that marijuana is smuggled into across the border with
Mexico. The anti marijuana laws in Texas are some of the strictest in the United States with high fines
and long prison sentences. Currently under Texas laws the possession of 2oz or less can result in 180
days in jail and or a fine up to $2000 dollars, as well as your license being suspended for 12 months.
So why does Texas take a such a harsh stance against marijuana? Why does Texas keep throwing
money on fighting a war on marijuana? How many more of our fellow Texans are going to have their
lives ruined over using a plant that grows out of the ground. Through research I will show and explain
how the current aggressive laws and policy against marijuana in Texas effects not only the users, but
every Texan. The beginning of Texas anti marijuana laws can be traced back to the city of El Paso
(Drug Policy ORG). Prior to 1914 Texas had no laws concerning the usage or sale of the plant, but
then the stories of people using marijuana in Mexico and terrorizing people made their way to El Paso
and the Deputy Sheriff Stanley Good. Deputy Good made it a personal mission of his to get El Paso to
make the substance illegal. The whole basis of his argument is that immigrants from Mexico will
come to the Untied States and use the drug and terrorize El Paso. At the time marijuana use was

King Tutankhamun lived over 3,300 years ago during a period known as the New Kingdom. This
period of time was called the New Kingdom because it was when the pharaohs united upper and lower

well worth. Costco memberships also provide reward programs for the more premium package such as
3% cash back for gasoline purchases. (ann arbor) This provides an incentive for consumers to do their
bulk spending ,like groceries, at Costco; knowing that a small fraction will be returned in the short run
which eventually adds up in the long run. This not only applies for those who plan on doing their
groceries but also for heavy purchases; TVs, Mattresses, Computers..etc. However this does not
appeal the consumers who wish to buy small quantity of units like picking up a gallon of milk. To pay
$55 110 a year for a gallon of milk doesn t make sense, especially since Costco only sells packages of
two gallons. Now you would have to spend more and are responsible for not letting the milk go to
waste. This maintains local stores as an alternative option for consumers where they

Marcellin Champagnat Research Paper
Marcellin Champagnat was a remarkable person. He was born on the 20th of May 1789 and died on
the 6th of June 1840. During Marcellin s life many things changed. Marcellin had a huge impact on
the catholic church and the world by the time he died.
The year 1789 was when Marcellin Champagnat was born. At this time, the outbreak of the French
revolution occurred. During this time the official religion of the French State was Catholicism. In
1789, the French population was 28 million and almost entirely catholic. By 1794, because of the split
between the church and the state following the French revolution, the churches of France and the
religious orders were closed down and all religious worship was supressed. The following decades
were extremely difficult for the French. This was a hard time for French people as there was a lot of

This was important to Marcellin because as a young child Marcellin was a typical illiterate French
peasant. One day, a visiting priest suggested to his parents that Marcellin may like train for the
catholic priesthood. Marcellin commenced training and, even though he was uneducated, through hard
work and prayer, Marcellin was ordained as a priest in 1816. Marcellin s first job as a priest was in a
remote rural community called La Valla. France by this stage had been at war almost continuously for
26 years and public education in rural areas had collapsed. This lead Marcellin into a life changing
event. One day, Marcellin visited a seventeen year old boy, Jean Baptiste Montagne, who was dying.
Jean Baptiste had never learned the most basic elements of the Christian faith and this effected
Marcellin. To Marcellin, Jean Baptiste s death at only 17

Transformational Leadership Theory Motivates Individuals
Transformational Leadership Theory Motivates Individuals
The definition of transformational leadership is the style of leadership in which the leader identifies
the needed change, creates a vision to guide the change through inspiration, and executes the change
with the commitment of the members of the group(business dictionary.com). Northouse (as cited in
Hall, Johnson, Wysocki, Kepner, 2002) stated in simplistic terms, transformational leadership is a
process that changes, motivates, and transforms individuals. In essence this form of leadership
transforms the employee s values and behaviors, thereby increasing production. In the case of JLB
Enterprises, decreased employee morale was linked to a significant decrease in efficiency and ... Show

Inspirational motivation is the degree to which a leader articulates a vision that is appealing and
inspiring to followers (Riggio, 2009). The leadership of JLB enterprises could reexamine and revise
its mission statement and introduce a more positive set of future goals at a company wide meeting.
Additionally, JLB Enterprises could create and introduce a production based incentive program. Some
possible elements of this program might include wage bonuses and additional paid days off.
Individualized influence is the degree to which the leader acts as a role model for their followers
(Riggio, 2009). In an effort to raise performance expectations JLB Enterprise s executive management
could institute both a manager of the month and an employee of the month program. If the manager of
the month program included one on one mentorship time with a senior manager then it is more likely
that the junior manager would emulate their mentors values and behaviors. Likewise the junior
manager could mentor each of his employees so that values and behaviors might be more consistent
throughout the company.
Conclusion
In conclusion, by utilizing all four elements of the transformational leadership theory employee
morale and production would likely increase at JLB Enterprises. Using one or two elements of the
theory will not be as effective as applying all four elements. Furthermore, transformational

  • 2. Intercultural Communication Essay Communication can be performed through the utilisation of languages, such as English. Presently, English has become a favourable and prominent tool for interaction among people of different cultural backgrounds. The high demand in acquiring English for fields such as international politics, science and technology has led to the global spread of the language. Consequently, English is recognised as an international language, and its ownership is considered to be denationalised and renationalised. The understanding of this ownership status is crucial in establishing an effective practice of intercultural communication, by acknowledging the variations of English and cultural differences in communication styles within classroom and business contexts. First, since English has become an international language, its ownership is regarded as denationalised and renationalised. The concept of denationalisation proposed by Smith suggests that English is no longer just owned by countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States, but by various other countries around the world that also use the language. Kachru also argued that a global English should not only be restricted to the official use by colonial countries of the United Kingdom and the United States, and it is not a necessity to internalise the native speakers norms. It is said that the process of denationalisation results in renationalisation, in which, according to McKay, involves English localisation the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She had made many significant contributions to Australia. What do we really know about her and what made her an Australian Hero? Tran Truong reports on her legacy. Money is something that we use every day to buy either essentials or luxuries. However, I feel that not many of us would notice who those people are on the banknotes and what significant contributions they had made to be on it. For instance, if we look at the Australian 50 dollars banknote above, we see David Unaipon (David Ngunaitponi), a prominent Aboriginal who has been portrayed on the front of our Australian national currency since 1995. He was a particularly intelligent man, who was reputable as an inventor and the first Indigenous author, who wrote newspaper articles to fight for Indigenous studies and their rights. Another prominent figure on the reverse side of the note is Edith Cowan. She was well known as an Australian disputant who stood up for women s and children s welfares also rights. • 4. The Effects Of Radiation Exposure On The Environment Throughout history, populations have been affected by the devastating effects of radiation disasters. Chernobyl in 1986 and Fukushima in 2011 are a few radiation disasters that will be highlighted. Chernobyl could be argued as one of the worst incidents of radiation exposure to the general public. Aspects of this paper include background on accidents, the effects of the radiation exposure, and the impact of the population living within the areas. As well as the cost, not only economically but environmentally. Much can be learned from these incidents on a government and individual level. Governments need to understand the magnitude of such a disaster and how to help those affected most. While individuals should be more aware of the dangers of radiation exposure and how their living situations may put them at a higher risk. The public needs to be informed and educated on how accidents like these affect their lives. Chernobyl was the largest uncontrolled radioactive release ever recorded for any civilian operation. Chernobyl had four reactors, which were run on low power making them very unstable. There was a huge power surge which increased the heat in reactor number four. The increased heat set off a chain of events that couldn t be controlled. Pipes began to rupture as well making the prefect condition for two major explosions. Most other nuclear power plants have a containment enclosure, but Chernobyl did not. Since there was no enclosure this resulted in radioactive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Innovation refers to an idea, practice or object that is perceived as new by an individual or other unit of adoption. In this case, the innovation is the idea of sanitation which is perceived as new by this specific population. There are five characteristics of the innovation: Relative Advantage, Compatibility, Complexity, Trialability and Observability. Sanitation is obviously better than non sanitation for reducing contagious diseases, which refers to Relative Advantage. For instance, boiling water before use can kill the harmful microbes, burning garbage can prevent contamination of water, and installing latrines can improve personal hygienic status. As a result, the people form a favorable attitude, like sanitation is easy to apply and reducing risks of getting sick, toward the innovation (though in this case they formed an unfavorable attitude, which need to be changed from stigma to social norms). Then, people engage in sanitation that lead to a choice to adopt this innovation by tailoring the sanitation to specific cultural context. After adaptation, people put sanitation into use. Finally, the interventionists evaluate the results of sanitation. To aim at particular groups of individuals, identification of five adopter categories is also important: innovators, early adopters, early majority adopters, late majority adopters and laggards. There are six stages of diffusion process: Innovation Development, Adoption, Implementation, Maintenance, institutionalization, and sustainability. During the innovation development phase, Social Marketing (which would be discussed in next question) can be applied to design, target, refine and implement the sanitation in Peru. I would like to purchase some land outside of Austin, TX in order to build this bed and breakfast. I plan on starting this company with a partner, my younger sister, Mercy. We want to know if we should start a general partnership, with both of us as a general partner, or a limited partnership, with me as the general partner and Mercy as the limited partner. In addition to the type of partnership we are considering establishing, we have already decided that we will be using the entity theory of partnerships, which regards partnerships as a distinct and separate entity from either of us, the partners. As such, both Mercy and I will be able to enter into taxable transactions with the partnership. And this means that the partnership can hold the title to the land, is not legally liable for our (the partners) debts, and is required to file annual returns using the Form 1065 reporting operation results. Our main question is that we would like to know what type of debt we should take out in order to establish this partnership and be able to finance the land in which to build the bed and breakfast. We want to know, and understand, the difference between recourse debt and non recourse debt and how it pertains to a partnership as well as to the individual partners. • 7. Literary Analysis the Chrysanthemums Name Professor Course Date: Chrysanthemums: Literary Criticism At the turn of the 20th century, women were considered inferior to men: they were only required to stay at home, take care of households and children. The Chrysanthemums , as told by John Steinbeck, is a story of a woman during that period who tries to change the course of her destiny. In this story, the two fold issues of femininity and symbolism play a critical part in explaining this helplessness. Steinbeck uses the narrative to signify the hope for change of the woman as well as her character by illustrating different similarities between Elisa and her flowers. Elisa s life is significantly transformed by the arrival of the tinker who comes with hope, which is also symbolized by the flowers. At first, this hope is predicted in the setting of the narrative, although it is subtle. Despite the fact that the valley looks like a closed pot, there are some sharp and positive yellow; leaves (Steinbeck 175). These bring about an image of encouragement in the midst of depression. Readers are also able to see, through Elisa s change of attitude, how she puts her hope in the pot of chrysanthemum that she gives to the stranger. At fist, she is repulsive to the tinker and shows little concern for him and keeps some distance from him. She looks at him irritably as her eyes move with resistance (Steinbeck 179) when the tinker requests to offer repair services for any of her broken item. However, this resistance changes from her face when he begins to talk about the chrysanthemums. She starts to gain more interest: Her eyes (brighten) and (become) alert and eager (Steinbeck 180). In addition, she opens one of the men clothes that she is wearing and makes her heart open to reality. From removing the gloves, to destroying the tattered hat, and shaking her beautiful hair, Elisa seems to be blossoming like a flower (Steinbeck 179 180). • 8. Airway Obstruction In COPD The presence of airflow obstruction which is largely irreversible is a major feature of COPD. It is proposed to be the result of a combination of small airways narrowing, airway wall inflammation [89] and emphysema related loss of lung elastic recoil [1, 90, 91]. The pathologic features of COPD are structural changes of the lung, including emphysema and small airway remodelling [92]. Small airway remodelling in COPD is characterized by adventitial fibrosis and mucus cell hyperplasia, and may involve increased airway smooth muscle (ASM) mass, particularly in severe disease [92 96]. This is indicated by persistent infiltration of inflammatory cells, including macrophages, neutrophils and T and B lymphocytes in the airway wall [94 96]. It seems that, people are always searching for the right words to express their true emotions towards a certain subject. Artists and authors manage to make a living off of knowing how to use the right words to reach through to their platform. Though within his time, Edgar Allan Poe did not have an established platform and was seen as estranged; he still dabbled as an author and has made many famous short stories and poems that we enjoy to this day. Much like Tuberculosis, where there was no cure and death was inevitable. He showcases all the different stages of living to dying while, Prince Prospero and the Red Death, go through the stages of acceptance backwards leading to the manifestation of Poe s inner demons. Certainly to even establish the tone one has to choose their diction. Edgar Allan Poe, as said before, had a way of describing certain items and events. He did so in a way, that the reader is physically there or even being told in depth from a person that s being conversed with. Many times, the speaker within the story starts off with, Yet, mad am I not... (271) or even, but why will you say that I am mad? (228) The speaker poses these rhetorical questions that make you question their psychosis. The 3rd person point of view surely gives rise, to giving the readers the task of analyzing and choosing whether to side with the speaker or not. Edgar Allan Poe, was not so sane himself, either. The Speaker s of Remembrance and Wuthering Heights react differently for the same struggle. The tone of the last stanza of Remembrance is similar to the tone of the last chapter of Wuthering Heights. Both works have a sullen mood and each speaker wants to move on from their memories. The way Emily Bronte wrote the last stanza mirrors the feelings of Heathcliff in the last chapter of Wuthering Heights. Both works seem to be tied together, as Remembrance reflects the feelings of Heathcliff, a main character of the novel. • 11. User Friendly Budget On January 14, 2015 the Local Finance Board (LFB), which is part of the Division of Local Government Services, adopted regulations that require municipalities in the State of New Jersey to complete on an annual basis a User Friendly Budget document. As a result of this requirement, as of fiscal year 2015, New Jersey municipalities must submit to the Division of Local Government Services a User Friendly Budget as part of their annual budget package. Due this requirement, as a member of the Department of Local Government Services, I am developing a strategic research plan for determining whether or not the new requirement to create a User Friendly Budget is having a positive impact on local government. These three objectives are: i) to summarize the annual municipal budgets; ii) to display information on key cost drivers; and iii) to better explain the municipal budget s impact on local property taxes. As described by the LFB, these objectives were adopted to address the fact that local municipality budgets tend to be complicated and confusing and can run upwards of 50 or more pages. Creation of the User Friendly Budget was intended to result in a simplified presentation of the actual municipal budget. Information included in the User Friendly Budget consists, among other items, of the tax impact, revenue summary, appropriation summary, structural imbalances, tax assessment, and personnel costs. This information is designed to give citizens a brief understanding of the how a local municipal budget is going to operate based on revenue and expenditures for the coming fiscal year. In creating this research project, a logic model was used to demonstrate the resources, activities and outputs that are necessary in order to analyze the two proposed hypotheses. The resources in each municipality involved in the creation of a User Friendly budget include the LFB which required the use of User Friendly Budgets, the local municipal mayor, town council members and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), all of whom create the budget, and local citizens who provide this group feedback on any proposed budget. Consequently, these are the resources that must be involved in the analysis of the two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Argumentative Essay About Kobe Bryant As it stands today, Kobe Bryant is the best basketball player to have ever played the game. Some argue that Michael Jordan was better, but he was not. Some argue that Lebron James is better, but he is not. To compare him to the men who played the center position is a waste of time. Obviously Shaquille O Neal, Wilt Chamberlain, and Kareem Abdul Jabbar were more dominant. They were freaks of nature. What Kobe had that set him apart from everyone else was a skill set and mentality that is unmatched. Kobe is the best player first and foremost because he was a Los Angeles Laker for twenty years. Some may say that my bias towards Kobe as a Laker fan discredits my argument, but it does not. First, a list of his accomplishments. Kobe was drafted out of highschool at the age of seventeen, broke into the league by winning the Slam Dunk contest in his rookie season, and by age of twenty five he was a three time world champion. He was the youngest person to be named a NBAAll Star at the age of nineteen. The combination of his talents with the talents of Shaquille O Neal was the greatest one two punch of all time. That is an objective fact. Shaq himself has even admitted that had the duo stayed together after the 2004 season, they most certainly would have gone on to win additional world championships, but Kobe didn t need Shaq. When it was all said and done, Kobe ended up with five rings to his name to O Neals four all five with the Lakers I might add. I won t lie, Kobe s days in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Patrice Tseh E1o1 Professor Jones 10/11/2017 Journal Entry #2 David Sedaris s Remembering My Childhood on the Continent of Africa Journal Response In the comparison and contrast essay, Remembering My Childhood on the Continent of Africa, by David Sedaris, the author talks about the jealousy he feels towards the excitement present in his friend Hugh s life. David Sedaris explores the contrast in the dullness of his own childhood with the adventurous lifestyle of his friend s childhood. Using descriptions, personal experiences of his friend and himself, and language, Sedaris explains why he takes satisfaction in passing his friend s stories as though they were his own since the stories were more interesting. The field trips, environment, and activities all contribute in the development of the difference in lifestyle between them. The subject of Sedaris s comparison and contrast in this essay is to show the aspects of both Hugh and the author s childhood, that would cause the author to feel proud using his friend s stories as his own. For instance, the author states that, When I was young I went to the theater at the nearby shopping center and watched a movie about a talking Volkswagen... Like me, Hugh saw the movie by himself on a weekend afternoon. Unlike me, he left the theater two hours later, to find a dead man hanging from a telephone pole at the far end of the unpaved parking lot (Sedaris 182). The quote above indicates that the author is being naïve and childish. No boy or child who is as young as he was should feel pleasure in seeing a dead person. The thesis of this essay is as follows, Certain events are parallel, but compared with Hugh s, my childhood was unspeakably dull. When I was seven years old, my family moved to North Carolina. We had a collie and a house cat. When he was seven years old, Hugh s family moved to the Congo. They had a monkey and two horses named Charlie and Satan. I threw stones at stop signs. Hugh threw stones at crocodiles (Sedaris 181). This clearly informs the reader that the author is envious of Hugh s childhood since his was extremely boring. Additionally, the thesis is stated and not implied because the author openly asserts that, When I m told such stories, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the article Abuse and the Legal Consciousness of Se Workers in China, she outlines the lifestyle of a prostitute and all the major obstacles that follow. Legal consciousness, which will be explained further into the essay, is the relationship an individual has with the law. More specifically, where they think they stand in relation to the law. The three subject potions of legal consciousness are with the law, before the law, and against the law. Chinese sex workers subject themselves to the position of against the law . The Impact Of Gratitude On Wellbeing The Impact of Gratitude on Wellbeing In a world that seeks answers to everything, people strive for perfection by working on their strengths and weaknesses. With technological advantages, people aim to live as long as possible with optimal functioning in the body and mind. It has been a goal of human existence to maintain ourselves in any way we can. One way this is done is through gratitude, which has been regarded as universally valuable, tracing back to the beginning of time. Ever since the 1930s, researchers have tried to measure how effectively gratitude helps people of all backgrounds (Bono, Emmons, McCullough, 2004). Cultures define gratitude based on the way they perceive it. Western society regards gratitude as something that is needed during certain times, while poorer societies might rely on gratitude to help them survive. Although gratitude has different meanings, it has been utilized for maintaining wellbeing. It has become a question of how well gratitude impacts our wellbeing. However, before we can understand this relationship, we must define wellbeing. Wellbeing Wellbeing, synonymous with happiness, has been defined as the way people describe their lives and what matters to them (Diener, Lukas, Oishi, 2002). Since it is a person s judgment over their own life, it is subjective. Thus, it should be understood that wellbeing is subjective, as happiness has a different meaning for everyone. According to dualism, the mind and body are two separate entities with the body being physical and the mind being nonphysical. If this is the case, though, then there can be no interaction between the two. The mind could not influence anything physical without violating the laws of physics. The materialist theory, on the other hand, states that the mind is not distinct from the physical. In fact, supporters of the materialist theory believe that behavior does not have mental causes. Functionalism also states that the output of the system is related to both the input and the internal status of the system at a given time. Based on the definition of functionalism, the mental processes of a human are not distinct from the systemic processes of a machine. Mental processes are defined as an operation on symbols to yield certain results. Thus, if the same symbols yielded the same results in two separate systems, then the mental states can be seen as similar, or even identical. Along this vein, consider a computer programmed with the same reasoning process as a mind. When the input B is entered, the output depends both upon B and upon the state of the system resulting from the computation of A. If the computer was programmed with the exact same reasoning process as a mind, then the result would be the same. Thus, the mental state of the mind would be indistinguishable from the systemic state of the computer. The computer metaphor upholds the theory of functionalism because the output is the result of interaction between the input and the current state of the system. The metaphor also demonstrates the insignificance of the physical state of the system when determining whether two mental states are alike. Thus, it shows that the processes, rather than the composition, of the system determine the mental state. Searle disagrees with the view that the physical composition of the system does not influence the mental state of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most novels that are considered classics, especially during their time of release, seem to have a universal theme of not receiving positive recognition. However, as time went on, people found themselves developing a taste for such heart tugging tales. • 30. To What Extent Was Ancient Athens A Democracy Dbq Facts and information lead to the fact that Athens truly was a democracy. First of all, what is a democracy? A democracy is a form of government that the people of that state or country run. To prove that ancient Athens actually was a democracy, here are three pieces of evidence to prove so. Unlike our government, the people of Athens ran their government, compared to our government, where we elect representatives to run our government for us. First, democracy is the rule of the whole of the people, excluding minors and maniacs only (Doc D). The only people who had a say in the Athenian government were the male citizens. Women, children, and slave had no say whatsoever. The males had all the say on what they felt the city state needed in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Harada 1954, p. 9 25) In the era in of Sen no Rikyu, the affluent tea master to Nobunaga and Hideyoshi, teahouse architecture focused on spirituality, a connection with nature, your inner self, your host and the medicinal qualities of tea. In particular, Rikyu focused on simplicity, where spiritual ceremonies does not have to go beyond the host and the guest. Rikyu, was the first to design the two mat tea room; the Tai an, an example of the smallest type of tearoom and the epitome of a teahouse designed in the same concept as the tea ceremony, the wabi cha, an emphasis on simplicity (Kirby 1962, p. 197) In comparison, Hosokawa Tadaoki s Shoko ken was designed specifically in the daime sukiya tradition of tea house architecture from the Momoyama period (1568 1600), distinctive for its use of shorter mats and central post structure to differentiate the spatial hierarchy of the space between the host and guest. He portrays to us a dull background in order to shows us the light in his world of darkness. How light and darkness is portrayed in this story of a young boy, who believes he is in love with a girl, is meant to help us see that the boy is blindly naïve by his emotions. How he sees his house and the neighborhood, always in dark settings, is an example of this. I take a glance around the room as I make my way towards a table in the back, seeing everyone else make their way towards their usual tables as well. As cliché as it seems, most people sit with those who are like them the popular girls sit together and talk about homecoming or boys, the football players sit side by side talking about their upcoming game, and the band kids huddle around their sheet music, using their lunch break as practice. However, I affiliate with none of those cliques. Instead, I sit with those who are typically called the nerds or geeks of the school. There are only guys on the table, except for me. The anti marijuana laws in Texas are some of the strictest in the United States with high fines and long prison sentences. Currently under Texas laws the possession of 2oz or less can result in 180 days in jail and or a fine up to $2000 dollars, as well as your license being suspended for 12 months. So why does Texas take a such a harsh stance against marijuana? Why does Texas keep throwing money on fighting a war on marijuana? How many more of our fellow Texans are going to have their lives ruined over using a plant that grows out of the ground. Through research I will show and explain how the current aggressive laws and policy against marijuana in Texas effects not only the users, but every Texan. The beginning of Texas anti marijuana laws can be traced back to the city of El Paso (Drug Policy ORG). Prior to 1914 Texas had no laws concerning the usage or sale of the plant, but then the stories of people using marijuana in Mexico and terrorizing people made their way to El Paso and the Deputy Sheriff Stanley Good. Deputy Good made it a personal mission of his to get El Paso to make the substance illegal. The whole basis of his argument is that immigrants from Mexico will come to the Untied States and use the drug and terrorize El Paso. At the time marijuana use was prevalent in the border towns by both Americans and Mexicans but nobody gave it any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This convinces consumers to prefer to shop at Costco, knowing that they will come out satisfied at the end of the day. Membership prices range from $55 110 annually which in return for the discount prices is well worth. Costco memberships also provide reward programs for the more premium package such as 3% cash back for gasoline purchases. This not only applies for those who plan on doing their groceries but also for heavy purchases; TVs, Mattresses, Computers..etc. However this does not appeal the consumers who wish to buy small quantity of units like picking up a gallon of milk. Inspirational motivation is the degree to which a leader articulates a vision that is appealing and inspiring to followers (Riggio, 2009). The leadership of JLB enterprises could reexamine and revise its mission statement and introduce a more positive set of future goals at a company wide meeting. Additionally, JLB Enterprises could create and introduce a production based incentive program. Some possible elements of this program might include wage bonuses and additional paid days off. Individualized influence is the degree to which the leader acts as a role model for their followers (Riggio, 2009). In an effort to raise performance expectations JLB Enterprise s executive management could institute both a manager of the month and an employee of the month program. If the manager of the month program included one on one mentorship time with a senior manager then it is more likely that the junior manager would emulate their mentors values and behaviors. Likewise the junior manager could mentor each of his employees so that values and behaviors might be more consistent throughout the company.
