Red Beard Reflection
Red Beard is a film that reminds one that the distance to be travelled is far longer than the
distance that was already covered. Not only in the case of medical studies, which happened to
be the professional field of the protagonist of the movie but also in the whole gamut of activities
of all people in this world: in their professions, in arts, in sports, in literature, in studies, in
knowledge and in case of anything and everything, the unknown is several times more than the
known and is spread like a vast ocean. This realisation is the essence of this Kurosawa Movie.
Most of the humans are trapped in the notion that there is nothing more there to know and
everything about them is perfect. It is nothing but a by product of a form of emotional weakness.
When the world is shrinking to one s own self, people tend to have a wrong conviction that there
is nothing beyond the limits they have set for themselves and even if there is something, it is not
worthy compared to the things they have known or earned. It is hard to come out of that
marshland. Every step one takes there is digging into one s own self: into... Show more content on

What he really learned from that aged doctor in an ordinary clinic of that dark Japanese village was
nothing but life itself. They were the breakdowns and silences and consolations and smiles and
laughter of several fresh life situations. The unpredictability of the moment ahead enhanced the
curiosity of being in those very moments. And when looked back after a moment, that growing
curiosity turned into amusement or sadness. The young doctor, seasoned by the persisting and
different trials and tribulations he underwent while reading through those test books which were
nothing but the very lives of the people in that village, gradually came closer to the transfiguration:

Validity of the Fama French Three Factor Model in China during 2011 2015
Chao Xiong
Ohio University
Abstract
This paper mainly explores the validity of the Fama French Three Factors model during 2011 2015
by using 30 stocks which is from A share stock marketin China, in contrast to the results of Fama
and French (1993) in U.S, there are some differences. Market risk premium has a significant in
Chinese stock market, but for the factors SMB and HML, both of them are not as significant as the
United States, but it still has a little marginal return. Meanwhile, we use Capital Assets Pricing
Model to compare with Fama French Three Factors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To maximizing the interest of the investment, it depends on the information capture capability of
investors in the stock market. Most investors in China start their investments without enough
knowledge about the operating of stock market. They just follow what the most people do. If things
continue in this way, economic bubble may occur. Therefore, it is particularly important for
investors to get a general knowledge about the core of stock market.
Over the past few decades, economists were continually developing a variety of asset pricing
models. The first and the most important model is called Capital Assets Pricing Model, which was
developed by William Sharpe, John Lintner and Jack Treynor (1964). It is based on the theory of
composition and capitalization, which discussed the expected return and the relationship between
risky assets in stock market. And now, Capital Asset Pricing Models becomes the pillar of multiple
asset pricing models, and widely use in investment.
However, since the 1970s, foreign economists began to do a lot of empirical research, specially in
American capital market, which is able to provide a mature financial environment for the Capital
Asset Pricing Model. Nevertheless, in 1980, there have been lots of negative verification results,
economists started to discuss the Capital Asset Pricing Model, sometimes, it can not reasonably
explain in stock market. In 1992, Fama and French (1992) considered

Victim Rights
A crime against the state is seen as a violation of the rule of law, while crime against people is seen
as a violation of human rights, and both conditions lead to the punishment of the offender befitting
the crime. In this process of achieving justice, those highly impacted by these wrong actions are
often ignored; the battle between the offender and the Crown often makes the victim, a mere
spectator. The Canadian Criminal JusticeSystem is continuing to do its best in addressing the
dissatisfaction victims feel towards the authorities. However, study of literature shows that although
victim rights have come a long way and are continuing to develop further, they are not successful in
addressing the concerns of the victim. The article, Crime... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Victims often complain about not having enough information about their case and confusion
regarding what rights they are entitled to (McDonald Grossman, 2014, p. 10). The reason
victims feel this way is because they do not know how to access the programs set in place for
them. Proper measures should be taken to allow clear communication between the Crown,
victim, and lawyers. For instance, Mandi Gray, a sexual assault survivor, demanded eight
thousand dollars in restitution money so she could hire a lawyer because she felt defenseless
during the trial. Whereas, the national criminal lawyers association were not in favor of the
offender paying such amount and argued that adequate support services are already available for
victims (McGillivray, 2017). Incidences like these are likely to paint a negative picture of victim
status in Canadian Justice System and decrease the number of victims accessing these resources.
Moreover, it shows interest towards being more concerned about protecting the rights of an
offender, rather than the victim who has been wronged. Also, if the information regarding these
programs is easily available, it will likely increase the rate of victims making use of them.
Therefore, to eliminate future issues like these, support services should expand their options
available for victims and more counseling services should be provided to explain victims their
rights beforehand. Information is the key towards getting rid of any confusion and suspicions
regarding the fairness of the judicial

United States Department Of Education Essay
Dear United States Department of Education,
I m currently a new student at Highline community college who is trying to keep up with the
fast pace and pressure of college. I want to be successful and pass all my classes with good
grades but, I know I can t do it all on my own. All the resources we have available to us as
students are very helpful such as tutors, counselors, and financial aid advisers and I intend to take
full advantage of all the resources available to me. It s very important to me that I pass my classes
because I am paying out of pocket, unlike most students who are on financial aid, or scholarships.

Therefore, more funding is needed for community colleges because getting the proper help from
advisers and having access to more counselors can be the difference maker in more students
graduating and transferring to 4 year colleges.
Second, community colleges need more funding for student services because all students are
different and some students won t fully understand the material being taught in class. More funding
is crucial for remedial classes. If community colleges received more funding for programs they can
put some of that money to use by having more remedial classes and giving remedial teachers
specialized training. The documentary called Discounted Dreams: High hopes and Harsh Realities
in America s Community College s states that Most remedial teachers do not have specialized
training . What this shows is that the schools don t put enough effort into these remedial classes
which in turn means that students in remedial classes are still facing the same challenges they did
in regular classes. If you don t give remedial teachers specialized training how can you expect them
to reach the students in the remedial classes
Last, Community Colleges need more funding for student s services and programs to help better
prepare them for a 4 year college. Community Colleges are supposed to prepare students for the

Failure To Meet Zoning Laws
City governments are tasked with writing and enforcing zoning laws that define all aspects of
private use of property within the city s district. In order for businesses and other groups to build
and use plots, or zones, of land that they own within the city s district, they must get approval from
various city government officials. Failure to meet zoningrequirements for the specific use
proposed, as interpreted by certain officials, results in denial of the entity from using their land for
that purpose. On March 22nd, I attended a meeting of the Salt Lake City Planning Commission
(PC). The meeting concerned approving group s proposed usage of propertythey own. Specifically,

The meeting resolved the issue of theRuby s proposal to build townhouses, but the status of the
OSA s expansion is still uncertain. They cleared the first hurdle by having the PC conditionally
approve it, but they still need to appeal to the city council to change zoning laws. I learned how
zoning laws impact every aspect of use of private property. This includes the proposed usage of
each building and the impact all structures have on the flow of foot and car traffic. I also learned
all about the good OSA are doing in trying to solve the problems of re incarceration,
homelessness, and drug addiction. I do not feel the meeting should be conducted in a
significantly different way. Having STAFF present the proposal from a neutral perspective sets
the facts down, so that the representatives of the program can address the concerns of STAFF
while also telling the PC their vision and positive impacts of their program is a good order of

Life Of A Person Suffering From This Illness
Since we were kids we are afraid of death and it is a hard fear to fight even with the experience of
the years. When my father was diagnosed with cancer changed us, he and I, in some different
ways. The life of a person suffering from this illness is really hard and I could realized it while
growing. However, the traumatic moment of finding my dad dead was a shaking and painful
event, which marked me and changed me for the rest of my life.
That night I got up to go to the bathroom as usual. It was a small apartment where the only
bathroom was in my parents bedroom. As I entered the room the fresh night air hit me, and the
smell of an oncoming rain filled my lungs. The open window drew my attention. It was an old
wooden casement window almost as big as the entire wall and nevertheless my favorite spot in the
house. The stunning and panoramic scene from that window placed facing west was the perfect
place to talk. There, we spent a lot of afternoon together with pointless conversations and a live
picture. However, that night, gray threatening clouds were filling the sky. There was not any star to
see.
Predicting a big rainstorm, I disposed myself to close the window, but not before checking around
if any of my parents were awake. It was a really snug space, even though it was the master
bedroom. Consequently, it was almost unfurnished only occupied by an ordinary floor lamp, a twin
bed, and a reclining leather chair. My mother was sleeping in bed while my dad was in the

Odysseus, A Real Hero
Odysseus, King of Ithaca
How do you define a hero? In the adventures of The Odyssey, an epic poem written by Homer,
Odysseus, a Greek war hero goes through a series of adventures and tests to return to his homeland
of Ithaca. In his journey, Odysseus must prove that he is an able leader. Throughout the epic poem
the Odyssey, Odysseus portrays this example of an able leader as, he is very intellectual and quick
minded, and he is very brave and courageous.
Odysseus is very intelligent and quick minded in many dangerous situations. For example, when
he was sailing back from Troy he mentions to his men while plundering Ismarus, Back, and
quickly! Out to sea again! (Homer 993). In the situation while plundering this stronghold, he
warns his men not to be greedy and that the fight is not over till it is over. This displays how
wise Odysseus is and that he has a smart mind. Additionally, Odysseus shows some quick thinking
in the encounter with the Cyclops as, My name is Nohbdy: mother, father, and friends, everyone
calls me Nohbdy (999). Even Odysseus is upset, he can still remain calm and vigilant. While he
was in Polyphemus s cave, he is quick enough to confuse and trick the Cyclops so that when he
screams out that Nohbdy had ruined and attacked him, none of the other Cyclops s will come to his
aid. Finally, in some situations Odysseus was having hard times to control his men yet he
continually maintained his determination to get his crew and himself back to Ithaca. This

Professional Socialization In Nursing
Professional Socialization
Socialization is the process during which people learn the roles, statuses and values necessary for
participation in social institutions. (Dinmohammadi, 2013) This process is life long and begins
with learning norms and roles of a family. It is important to develop a self concept which will
continue to grow. As a person gets older you develop new groups and assume new roles. In turn the
person will learn new norms and redefine self concepts. Professional socialization is only the
periodic process of socialization that continues throughout an individual s life.

The Pros And Cons Of Stop And Frrisk Case
On October 31, 1963, a veteran detective of 39 years in downtown Cleveland noticed two men (one
being the petitioner Terry) walking back in forth in front of the same store numerous times each.
When they returned they would talk between each other for a few moments. Then, the men met
with a third man and stood outside suspiciously chatting before the third man left (Terry v. Ohio).
The officer suspected that the men were casing the stores for a stick up or robbery and began to
follow the two men (Oyez). Again, the two men met with the third man around the block in front of
another store and again conversed. That is when the detective approached the three men,
announcing himself as a policeofficer and asking the names of the men (Terry v. Ohio). The men
replied with a low mumble, upon which the officer grabbed Terry, spun him around and patted
him down (ACLU Ohio). Upon patting down his overcoat, he found a pistol on Terry, and then
another pistol on the other man that was originally with Terry, before patting down and arresting
the three men on concealed weapon charges. This type of stop and frisk technique is now known
as the Terry frisk because of this (Argiriou). This case revolves around whether the stop and frisk
by the officer violated the Fourth Amendment rights of Terry, which provides protection from
illegal search and seizures (Oyez). Do the police have the ability to stop and pat down anyone that
they deem suspicious, or do people have more rights to

A Comparison Of Eulogy For Mahatma Gandhi
Extended Writing Project
Leaders.Every country has and needs them for important decisions and to help stop problems and
maintain order. Without leaders we would have nothing in society but chaos and destruction.
Leadership to people can mean many different things but to almost all people Nelson Mandela and
Mahatma Gandhi were both some of the best leaders known to man. And both of these incredible
leaders were so impactful to their country that the had stories written about them. This is what we
will be comparing and why Eulogy For Mahatma Gandhi is better than Long Walk to Freedom in
persuading the audience about which one was a greater supporter of human rights. But they both are
good in different ways. Gandhi inspired India to peacefully protest against Great Britain s rule
while Mandela became the first black president of South Africa and stopped segregation there. This
will show why Jawaharlal Nehru s Eulogy For Mahatma Gandhi is better than Nelson Mandela s
Long Walk to Freedom in persuading the reader that their person is a better supporter of human
rights.
Nelson Mandela s Long Walk to Freedom is an autobiography about his life trying to abolish
segregation in South Africa. But in the Study Sync exert Mandela hardly talks about how much
he did to support human rights and it mostly talks about what state the country was in and what
he thinks about more than what he did. But from what we can get from the excerpt there is great
information about what he did to defend human right and how he did it. Mandela writes, I knew
as well as I knew anything that the oppressor must be liberated just as surely as the oppressed.
This reaches out to all people not just black people and shows that Mandela wants to help
everyone not just the people who have been enslaved or oppressed. Mandela also shares that, ...I
joined the African National Congress, and that is when the hunger for my own freedom became
the greater hunger for the freedom of my people to live their lives with dignity and self respect
that animated my life, that transformed a frightened young man into a bold one, that drove a law
abiding attorney to become a criminal... This shows that Mandela was politically active in trying to
stop segregation for a

Encompassing Learning through Life Cycles in the Book...
BOOK REVIEW
Lifelong learning in the Global Knowledge Economy: Challenge for Developing Countries Lifelong
learning is becoming necessary in many countries and it is more than just education and training
beyond formal schooling. This book indicated that a lifelong learning framework encompasses
learning throughout the lifecycle, form early childhood to retirement, and in different learning
environments, formal, nonformal, and informal. This report represents the World Bank s first
attempt to lay out an analytical framework for understanding the challenges of developing a
lifelong learning system. This book, which is as well as a report presenting lifelong learning in the
global knowledge economy: challenges for developing countries, explores the challenges to
education and training system that the knowledge economy presents. It outlines policy options for
addressing these challenges and developing viable systems of lifelong learning in developing
countries and countries with transition economies. This book addresses 4 questions: 1, what does a
national education and training system, including its formal and nonformal components, need to do
to support knowledge based economic growth? 2, how can developing countries and countries with
transition economies promote lifelong learning, and what challenges do they face in doing so? 3,
given limited resources, what type of governance framework promotes lifelong learning for people
in general and disadvantaged groups in

Gateway to Freedom by Eric Foner portrays the vital role white radicals had in the pursuit to

focused on the operatives who ran New York City s Underground Railroad because New York, still
a zone of conflict over the abolishment of slavery, lagged compared to other Northern states during
the 1850s. Unsurprisingly, a rash kidnapped African Americans plagued the city and enacted

Spanish Conquistadors
The Spanish conquistadors who vanquished Cuba in the 16th century are known for the suffering
they caused among conquered peoples. Yet, the same brute force that exploited native populations
is also responsible for Cuba s development into a flourishing colony. On October 28, 1492, Italian
explorer Christopher Columbus discovered Cubaon his first voyage to the New World. Impressed
with the beauty, natural resources, and prime location of the island, Columbus returned to Cuba on
his second voyage in 1494. Nineteen years later, Spanish conquistador Diego Velasquez conquered

Though the establishment of encomiendas abused natives and supported African slave trade, the
agricultural industry founded in Cuba by the Spanish became the colony s main source of income.
When the Spanish arrived in Cuba in the late fifteenth century, they discovered tobacco native to
the region and brought it back to Europe, where it was admired for its unique taste (Garcia).
Tobacco encomiendas were built across the island and the crop was shipped to Europe in
exchange for manufactured goods. Other cash crops including sugarcane, coffee, and animal hides
were also exported via Spanish ships and taken to European consumers (Woodward). By 1600,
Cuban tobacco had become renowned worldwide for its superior quality and cost nearly three times
the price of its competitors (NAter). Though the success of the encomienda system is controversial
due to its lack of morality, Cuba s economic development would not have been made possible
without them. The agricultural industries and business partners formed by Spanish colonists
enabled Cuba to rise as a powerful trade hub between Europe and the Americas. Prior to Spanish
conquest, Cuba had no connections to the outside world and natives survived as hunter gatherers (
The Colonial Years ). When they colonized the island, the Spanish built economic institutions that

could a woman leave her children? However, if a man did the very same some readers wouldn t
give it a second thought. Defoe s story brings to light societal concerns regarding women in his
time period and how society should address them.
The key issue is the number of children Moll has and leaves behind. In total, she has 12 children
by the end of her story; three are dead, seven that are left with their fathers or grandparents, and
two of which are left unaccounted for. Only one does she ever reunite with and not until late in
life. To society, the question remains, why she didn t try her best to bring up and support her
children from her first husband. Scholars question whether it was due to her own abandonment as
an infant and lack of a motherly figure to teach her how to love her own children, they were
nothing more than a happenstance of sex, or if it was because she was never able to feel secure
of her own basic needs and thus couldn t think to take care of another s. Firstly, Moll was born in a
prison because her mother was a convicted felon. After six months, her mother was transferred to a

Generation In My Generation
Generations Throughout time, the people of the Gen Z, Gen X, and generations before, show
significant qualities and differ from generation to generation. A change from my generation to the
past is how we talk and have new lingo in our conversations. Also, equality for women in the work
place and at home. My generationdoesn t have much of a work ethic and is very lazy when it
comes to jobs. The variance in our conversations, the equality in work place, and the laziness of
my generation are a change from the past. In conversation between Gen Z and Gen X, there are
some phrases past generations might not comprehend. Ever since phones have been around,
Gen Z have changed the language. We like to shorten all our words for example; OMG instead
of oh my god, is one of the most commonly used sayings. Another phrase frequently used is LOL,
which means Laugh out loud. There are many more examples, all of which have been created by
the phone and texting. Also, Gen Z tend to communicate more by phone or computer then talking
in person, whereas the Gen X would rather speak in person and have that face to face
conversation. Gen Z uses technology to avoid talking to someone. Witnessed every day on college
campus, a student will see a teacher or fellow student walking towards them in the hall, the student
quickly seizes their phone, looks down to be distracted, and walks right past so they don t have to
engage in a conversation. With technology that has enabled us to talk to anyone

projected/predicted aging pop. growth from 2012 2061 (but general= from 1971 2061). The
largest number of Canadians over 65 is in the year 2061 as projected, but historically it was in
the year 2011. The smallest/lowest number of Canadians over 65 years of age was in the year
historically 1971, and as projected, in the year 2021. There are no obvious outliers but, if there

Canada s aging population is increasing due to 3 main reasons one being that the baby boomer
generation is ending or retiring they re aging; and with decreased fertility rates and longer life
expectancies, there ends up being a larger population over 65 years of age. This impacts us
economically and socially because in order to support the growing number of seniors we have to
improve the quality and frequency of financial planning for retirement, make retirement a choice
(not mandatory), assist the seniors in the labour force and being versatile with work conditions

Sidewinder Snakes
Dr. Joseph Mendelson from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Atlanta Zoo presented his
research on the mechanism used by sidewinder snakes for locomotion on sand with the
implementation of a robot snake as a model system. The research study involved the collaboration
of the physics, engineering and biology departments to further understand the nature of snake
movements. Sidewinders are snakes that are able to move on sand at different inclinations because
they do not slither but rather employ a different mechanism of movement. Dr. Mendelson was able
to determine that the robot snake which mimics a snake that slithers is unable to move on sand
with an inclination greater than zero degrees. The research involved the use of a sandbox which...

From the observations of snakes in nature, the results showed that their locomotion is truly
optimized based on their repeated operations being maintained in an effective zone. The robot
snake was manipulated with different durations and amounts of lifts and contacts that would vary,
but be maintained in the ineffective zone due to the failed movement on sand. Another research
study involved the examination of the mechanisms employed by sidewinders for turning in a
different direction of movement. The results suggested that sidewinders change directions
horizontally or vertically by changing the angle of their head. An analysis of the robot snake
demonstrated an unobservable locomotion that it is possible to move in both a horizontal and
vertical wave movement on the sand in order to change directions via a differential or reversal
turning locomotion. Through the investigation of these research studies, Dr. Mendelson and his
co researchers were able to discover that in effect sidewinders suffer a cost of being able to
implement a different locomotion on inclinations of sand. Sidewinders are not able to avoid
obstacles as easily as snakes that slither which can just turn their heads in a slight angle away
from the obstacle in order to avoid it. The results showed that the reason for this cost is due to the
mechanism that sidewinders use for which the head does not reach the obstacle first to avoid the
obstacle beforehand instead of being tangled by it with their body. A study that is currently being
conducted involves the investigation of the interface between a floor substrate and the skin of a

Analysis Of The Book The Fear And Loathing
Hunter S. Thompson s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas portrays the American political landscape as
one that is plagued by savagery and excess. The novel paints capitalism as something that
emphasizes and brings to light a potentially inherent ugliness in mankind, depicted through the
simultaneous contrived and organic nature of such a dominating system. The book s reaction to
this system is a push and pull, two way reflection, mankind and the system influencing one another
and sharing similar likenesses whether organic or socialized, culminating in Raoul Duke s very
reactionary response to the bleak and manipulatory nature of capitalism. The novel is full of various
parallels, system and individual behaving similarly and almost attempting to outdo one another but
just culminating in a circle of madness which Raoul Duke and his attorney attempt to yet can t
reject outright or at all. Raoul and his attorney exist in a political landscape that is vast, savage, and
dominating, and through their attempt to protest and compensate for such a painful system through
the use of drugs and excessive indulgence, turn out to instead be pained and flawed culminations of
the system they are trying to protest.
The whole plot of the novel begins with our protagonist sitting in a hotel lounge in Beverly Hills.
He receives a call from someone from a sports magazine offering him a job the logistics involve a

Abstract Comcast has had significant success in delivering visibility into the availability of future

campaign goals are achieved. In addition, they provide valuable demographic analytics to help
sales executives and customers efficiently and efficiently meet their target segment. While the
current model has allowed for the delivery of these services, there are a number of inefficiencies

The ad that first aired in July 1941 was for Bulova watches, and the results were significant in
terms of sales. This pioneering event encouraged other businesses joined in the effort and advertise
on television, and things took off from there. In soon time, television advertising became known as
being, a cost effective way of reaching the masses . Many years later, this trend would continue, and
would continue to take up more time during any given hour of programming.
Today, advertising has become a multi billion dollar business, both with their product endorsement
and their capture of audiences. For Comcast, it is estimated that advertising is their second highest
revenue generating business, and it is believed that they are the biggest advertising company in the
Nation, if not the world, when it comes to the amount of advertising inventory they manage and the
revenue that is generated. This is due to the fact that companies and Networks alike are willing to
spend significant amounts of money to advertise, and the revenue at stake, for all involved, is
substantial.
Given the cost, and value, of advertising, there has also been an interesting shift in the industry. As
mentioned, companies are willing to spend the money necessary to reach their audiences, but at the
same time, they do not want to create any waste. In advertising, waste is considered any audience
that is not represented in the customer

How Does Edgar Allan Poe Use Alliteration In Poetry
Tintinnabulation I know, Poe. Again. Truth be told I do not know many other poetic authors.
Nor did I have a large mental library of poems to draw from. Yet, I digress. Typically, I do not
take the copout. I try to take on every new assignment as a new opportunity to expand my
knowledge or learn something new. When it comes to poems though, that shelf is bare. I have
only started caring about poems for the last six weeks. I like poems, I simply do not have prior
experience with them. So, I took a copout, and chose The Bells by Eager Allen Poe. This poem is
heavy in two distinctly poetic elements. Assonance and Alliteration. Assonance is the repetition of
the Vowel sounds at the end of a word, were Alliteration is the invers. That is repetition

In the second half of the poem the tone also makes a shift and becomes distinctly Poe. Strangely
the third line of the third stanza is What tale of terror, now, their turbulency tells! (Poe). This line
sticks in your head like the refrain of the most recent and obnoxious pop song. The alliteration
from here just keeps getting better. Starting with the next line and on to the eighth, In the
startled ear of night / How they scream out their affright! / Too much Horrified to speak, / They
can only shriek, shriek, / Out of tune, (Poe). So, the key words here are, scream, speak, and
shriek. There is no brain trickery here just the same consent. There is also a line that is only in
the first and last stanza that is In a sort of runic rhyme (Poe) this line creates a sort of image.
Runic, or a rune is an incantation that is written on an object to create a permeate effect. So, the
runic rhyme hints toward a more mystical element to the bells. This is a foreshadowing of the last
stanza. This line is first used in line ten and is not seen again till line 94. In the last stanza, is
where that poem hits a runic apex of alliteration. This excerpt from the fourth stanza, I personally
feel, is a good representation of the poem. What a world of solemn thought their monody compels!
/ In the silence of the night, / How we shiver with affright / At the melancholy meaning of their
tone! (Poe). This is my favorite part of this poem. Solemn silence shiver, melancholy meaning, and
their tone are all alliteration. These four lines are build up to the next three. For every sound that
floats / From the rust within their throats / Is a groan. (Poe). Then with the assonance of tone, floats,
throats, and groan in combination with the metaphor in the second line creates a striking image.
The metaphor in the line From the rust within their throats (Poe), is not like the typical metaphor.
Though this metaphor does

President Barack Obama s Immigration Reform to potential 2016 presidential candidates, everyone
is looking at different ways to amend our broken immigration system. Almost everyone agrees that
we need tighter border control and there needs to be more regulations to prevent the hiring of illegal
immigrants. Not everyone is sure what should be decided about immigrant parents, who are not
American citizens, and their American born children. This topic has left people questioning the

They argue that people come to America with plans of having what is called an anchor baby. An
anchor baby not only receives American citizenship, but also means that the babies parents can
stay here as well. Plus, once the child turns twenty one, they can become a sponsor for the rest of
the family to come to America. Another belief in people that want to take away birthright
citizenship is that taxpayer s money is being wasted on these families. People do not like the
idea of paying for these children s education because their parents are here illegally. The parents
of these children do not have to pay taxes because they are not residents of America, but that
does not stop them from using up public resources. The families still use hospitals and school
without having to pay basic taxes. Non residents that are charged with crimes get to go to a
prison that they never paid for. In just California alone, non residents, make up nearly 30% of
prisons, costing California over a billion dollars annually in incarceration. Drug crime increases
along with the rising number of illegal immigrants. Mexico s drug cartels are now overflowing
into the southwest states. People do not like what these aliens are doing. They definitely do not
like the idea of a couple receiving permission to stay in America because they simply had a child.

Importance Of Water Conservation Essay
Water, the source of life, is essential in supporting both our daily and business activities. In our
daily activities, we need water to make food, to shower, to wash clothes, and to drink to
maintain our body energy, etc. In business activities, we need water to operate restaurant, hotel
facilities like spas and hot tubs, and to generate power, etc. Based on how much we rely on
water, there needs no further emphasis on the importance of water in our lives. Yet, water, this
finite resource, is getting more and more scarce due to either excessive use of water or poor
awareness of water conservation. And as human develops and industrialization process speeds up,
our demand for water has become greater and greater. If we do not pay attention to water
conservation, the situation will get worse, which will lead to drought and affect the nature at the
worse. Therefore, it is our responsibility to conserve water in our daily life, and more importantly
in our business operations. According to a report conducted by United States Environmental
Protection Agency, hotels and restaurants water usage account for fifteen percent of the total water
use in commercial and institutional facilities in the United States (Saving Water), so there are
many opportunities to conserve water in these two sectors, and we are going to discuss what can
be done and how exactly do some restaurants and hotels do to conserve water. From the time a

An Innovating Era
One of the most famous innovative engineers of all time, Henry Ford, once said, You can t build a
reputation on what you are going to do. Between 1850 and 1914 the American people happened to
be living by this. Everyone tried creating something to profit, not to satisfy American needs, but
some Americans built a reputation doing the opposite of that. During the years between 1850 and
1914, Americans were experiencing a lot of transformation. For example, Americans transformed
from a mainly agricultural society to more of a modern industrial nation while America so called
came of age. In addition, the Civil War was another huge struggle that the ... Show more content on

Ford produced the automobile to satisfy Americans desires and to make it more affordable for the
society they currently lived in ( Henry Ford Changed the World 1). He was very determined to
build a simple, reliable, and affordable car (1). His early life helped shape his future and the
man he became. Ford actually left home to take a job offered to him in Detroit as a machinist, at
the age of sixteen ( Bio Henry Ford 1). His early interest in machinery helped him quickly get a
job as an engineer. One of his starting jobs was with the Edison Illuminating Company (2). At the
age of 33, in 1896, he constructed his very first model, called the Quadricycle (2). That same year,
Ford encountered with Thomas Edison, the lighting genius, and some of his executives. Edison
encouraged Ford to make a better, more efficient model (2).
The impact that Henry Ford had on this innovating era clearly cannot be underestimated. Ford had
the dream of creating a cheaper motorcar for the great multitude ( The Innovator and Ford Motor

known worldwide, he began trying to make that automobile in quantity for sale at more affordable

The key player in the case is Pat Evans, became Director of Health Services for six months at

Satire In The Entertainment Industry
Why is it that people are so attracted to all forms of entertainment? Is there a greater purpose
behind all those hours spent glued to screens? In the media, satirical entertainment has emerged as
a force revealing truths. Merriam Webster defines satire as a literary work holding up human
vices and follies to ridicule or scorn . The role of satirein the entertainmentindustry is to expose the
weaknesses and corruption in society. Entertainment does not have the capacity to ruin society;
entertainment simply reflects society because it engages and appeals to the common experiences of
the audience. Throughout civilization, entertainment is used to reveal the true nature of
individuals. It can only be assumed that those who object to satirical forms of entertainment must
have faults that they fear will be brought to light. Prominent figures in the nineteenth and twentieth
century despised satire. Rulers during those times were cautious of entertainment dissolving the ties
of our social order through citizens recognizing the corruption around them and rebelling. A form of
entertainment that has been around for centuries is the political cartoon. Political cartoons utilize
parody and caricature in an effort to interest and educate an audience. Throughout history, these

The Impact Of Media On Body Image
Introduction Over the time, the concept of body image is influenced by external factors as
culture, society norms, especially with the development of modern social media, it has grown
up to be an important element in affecting the perception of body image to shape the body

that risk of schizophrenia doubles in young abusers (U.S. National Household Survey on Drug

A Perfect Competitive Market Structure
In the economy, market structures are examined thoroughly. There are four basic kinds of market
structures in economics: perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and monopoly.
Perfect competition is the one that is being focused on predominantly. A perfectly competitive
market is a market in which all market participants are price takers (Krugman Wells 1). Price takers
are producers and consumers whose actions have no effect on the market price of the good
(Krugman Wells 1). A perfect competitive market structure consists of three aspects that will be
discussed. When perfect competitioncomes to mind, the Organic FoodMarket structure can be
associated to it or the perfectly competitive market industry. In the Organic market, all the farmers
in the industry are each producing the same product for the buyers and sellers. The consumption
of the individual consumer or the production of the individual producer will not affect the market
price of the goods. In a perfectly competitive market all participating producers and consumers are
price takers (Krugman Wells 1). As stated by Paul Krugman and Robin Wells, in a perfectly
competitive market neither consumption decisions by individual producers affect the market price
of the good (Krugman Wells 1). There are two necessary conditions for perfect competition, the
first being that none of the producers have a large market share, and the second being that the
goods produced are being regarded as a

painting, he became interested in both steam engines and boats. In 1802 Fulton Livingston met
Robert, who then agreed to help in the creation of steam boats. They ordered their first engine in
1803 but it was not allowed to be exported until 1806 as it needed to be tested for safety and
development conditions. After the creation of the boat was approved to set sail, they went on a
voyage from New York city to Albany. They then named their ship Clermont which carried over
100 passengers each voyage, mostly from New York city and Albany. It broke the record of
traveling 40 miles in the time period of 8 hours during the industrial revolution. This invention was
a huge success during the industrial revolution as more and more people needed to be transported
due to the baby boom year, The steam boat was turned from an idea into very successful

How Did Montag Change In Fahrenheit 451
When a society abandons the past, the future becomes more unfamiliar than ever before. This is a
concept present throughout Ray Bradbury s novel Fahrenheit 451, in which the society has
abandoned reading in its entirety. Guy Montag, the main protagonist in the story, is a fireman.
The word fireman itself has lost its historical meaning in the story and has changed from men
who put out fires to men who start fires and burn books. The reason these men burn books is
because they were outlawed after people stopped reading them, and this is done in order to
maintain social equality. With the abandonment of reading and intellectualism, society has changed
and, arguably not for the better. The main character, Montag, slowly becomes more aware of the
society he lives in through his new neighbor Clarisse McClellan, an old lady with a collection of
books, and a known intellectual named Professor Faber.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shortly after Clarisse moves in down the street from the main protagonist, she meets Montag.
Even though she has learned that he is a fireman, she is willing to talk to him anyway, saying,
You know, I m not afraid of you at all (Bradbury 11). So she talks to him, and he listens. He
listens and learns from her and learns what life can be from her. Clarisse gives Montag thoughts
and ideas he has never had before and this sparks a strive for knowledge in Montag. Montag
begins to ask questions, similar to how Clarisse does. The fireman wishes to learn more about his
position in society and begins to slowly understand what is happening around him. The reader can
tell the progression of awareness in Montag and there is an evident distinction of change
throughout the story. Clarisse sparked ideas in Montag that would, most likely, not have been
present without her influence, and because of this Montag is greatly impressed by Clarisse and
this is why she had such a large impact on

Perception In 12 Angry Men
The 1957 film 12 Angry Men directed by Sidney Lumet explores the subject matter of perception
in human beings. By using concepts from the Theory of Knowledge, the film can be dissected by
various philosophical and psychological angles. A jury of twelve must decide the fate of a young
Hispanic boy who has been accused of murdering his father. After the trial, eleven of the twelve
jurors are convinced he is guilty only Henry Fondabelieves otherwise. The whole film then moves
on to explore the individual psychologies of each juror and reason behind why they chose to cast
their votes in such a way. Slowly Fonda begins to turn them round with the aid of a few other
jurors who use their knowledge, previous experiences and reason as stimulus for doubt. In this is
essay I will be discussing emotion, reason and sense... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Problems faced when the jurors attempted to reach the final agreement, emotions, sense
perception and reason were held highly accountable. It allowed insight into particular evidence
held different viewpoints and biased opinions that challenged the jurors to rely mainly on logical
reasoning to arrive at the best conclusion. The events expressed in this film showed the challenges
and flaws in judging a person to be one sided. The extent of reason being highly favored more was
prevalent. They might not have a conclusive answer, but through reason and logic, Fonda was able
to create reasonable doubt that significantly changed the conviction. Additionally, it was difficult to
validate the jurors decisions on the vote in their emotional state with biased and fallacious
reasoning. Sense perception allows us to raise questions whether we know anything or whether our
logic is justifiable because the evidence was based on reasonable doubt. The witnesses might have
told the truth and that boy was the criminal but we don t know if that is

Dirt Is Good Summary
Germs! Germs! Germs! Yucky? Eewww?! Over the years, we have grown to see germs as bad,
something to totally avoid and get rid of. Parents most especially with newly born babies and
young children tend to be overreact at the mere thought of germs. But can we blame parents
when things like how to properly look after their child, when to give him antibiotics or how often
they should sterilize his pacifier, bog them? Well. thanks to Jack Gilbert, the co author of a new
book called Dirt is Good: The Advantage of Germs for Your Child s Developing Immune System
for presenting answers to many of our questions about these microbes. Gilbert, a scientist who
studies microbial ecosystems at the University of Chicago, decided to find out what s actually...

Over sterilizing the kids environment is not advantageous. 2. Keeping the children from ever
getting dirty, like preventing them from going out into the backyard and playing in the mud, is
not helpful. Just make sure that as they become filthy, bring them in and sterilize their hands
with antiseptic wipes, and then remove that dirt gets from their faces. 3. Keeping the kids away
from animals is not good either. It s fine to wash their hands if there s a cold or a flu virus
around, but if they re interacting with a dog, and the dog licks their face, that s not a bad thing.
In fact that could be extremely beneficial for the child s health. 4. Using sanitizers is usually
bad.. Hot, soapy water is fine. Even mildly warm, soapy water is okay, and it is probably less
damaging to the child s overall health. 5. Observing the five second rule is baseless. The idea
that if something falls on the ground and is there for under five seconds, it s clean. The five
second rule doesn t exist. It takes milliseconds for microbes to attach themselves to a sticky piece
of jammy toast, for example. But it makes no difference. Unless you dropped it in an area where
you think they could be a high risk of extremely dangerous pathogens, which in every modern
American home is virtually impossible, then there s no risk to your

Free Appropriate Public Education Act (EAHCA)
Following the early 1980s, litigation and court decisions had set the stage for additional special
education laws to the Education of All Handicapped Children Act (EAHCA) which was

the primary confirmation of Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) to every student by
covering educational costs before to after children reach school age such as the needs of children

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Futurisation
Introduction
Swaps in simple language means, the act of exchanging one thing for another. In financial terms
it means an agreement in which two parties agree to exchange series cash flows at some future
times according to terms stated in the agreement (Chance and Brooks 2012). They are derivatives
because their value is ascertained from some other financial instrument, such as a loan or bond.
Swaps are generally priced based on a notional value, which is the dol¬lar value of a contract.
The most common type of swap is the interest rate swap in which the two parties agree to enter into
an agreement which involve the exchange of payments of fixed rate interest for the payments of
floating rate interest or vice versa in the same currency calculated by reference to a mutually agreed

For examples this disparity may arise in fixed coupon rates. The company may be exposed to other
risk, if it does not have an exact or close enough match for the risk being hedged. In realty these
futures contract may not adequately hedge risk and this would lead increase in earnings volatility
and the company may face greater risk (Banwait 2013).
Increased risk for clearing house
The margins on swap contract are calculated differently and are higher than futures contract which
has led to the migration of swaps to futures. The volume of transactions cleared by futures clearing
house has risen significantly as the movement of swaps to futures take place. But as this volume
increases, the futures clearing house can be exposed to a greater risk of failure (Litan 2013).

Elon Musk s Accomplishments
Elon Musk is a well known investor, engineer, and inventor. Mostly known for being a co
founder of PayPal, CEO of Tesla, and SpaceX. Musk attended Queen s University in Kingston,
Ontario for undergraduate study, and after spending two years there he transferred to the
University of Pennsylvania where he received a Bachelors of Science degree in physics. As well
as a Bachelors of Science degree in economics at Wharton School of Business. In 1995 he moved
to California to start a PhD in Applied Physics and Material Science at Stanford University, but later
left to chase his entrepreneurial aspirations in areas such as the internet, sustainable energy, and
space exploration. Musk is currently the CEO of Tesla and works with NASA through SpaceX,...

Although he didn t think he would have a career in PayPal, SpaceX or Tesla, he wanted to at
least be involved in one of them. The way Musk thinks is by the first principles of thinking,
which is essentially a mode of inquiry that constantly pursues the foundations of a problem. The
first principles method was crucial to the beginning of SpaceX. When Musk was trying to figure
out the price of their first rockets he thought historically all rockets have been expensive and
therefore all rockets in the future will be expensive. But that s not entirely true, although he
found them too expensive, he thought if he manufactured them it could be cheaper. Fortunately
it did turned out to be cheaper, instead of buying a rocket for $20 million they built their own for
about $6 million. Now going into the car industry his best bet that would probably take him far
was electric cars and at the time he was studying advanced capacitors, which are essentially long
lasting batteries. Musk thought if he could create this long lasting battery, then he could
revolutionize the car industry. And as most people think when trying something new, Musk
wasn t sure if success was a possible outcome. Nevertheless he wanted to embark on something
that is desirable to figure out if success was at least one of the possibilities. And he was prepared
to face whatever trial he found himself in. Afterward Musk talks about his idea or goal in Tesla,
and his motive is not to compete and try to become the top car brand, but to have a catalytic effect
to make most cars

Female Gender Roles In The Movie Mulan
Hello everyone,
For todayВґs presentation, IВґm going to present an animated film that some of you are probably
familiar with. This film is called Mulan as you can see from the pictures set up.
Mulan is an animated film made in 1998 produced by Disney studio. The film describes a
traditional society that is set in China during an invasion caused by a tribe known as the Huns.
Shortly after the invasion, the emperor of China compels every male member in a family to serve
in the army. Being the only child and for that matter a girl, Mulan, the protagonist of the story,
disguise herself as a man by taking her fatherВґs armor and sword and heads towards the war in her
fatherВґs place while fully knowing that he has an injury to the leg due to previous ... Show more

The line also highlights the societyВґs value in women which is that the outer appearance is what
matters and nothing else. In terms of the audience, the metaphor of the phrase sow s ear into a
silk purse appeals to their imagination and consequently creates this vivid image in their mind
of what a woman should resemble. The following line further explains how the beauty can be
achieved when the woman says We ll have you washed and dried Primped and polished till you
glow with pride Trust my recipe for instant bride, You ll bring honor to us all . This line tells us
that women can only be proud and have pride by being beautified and in so doing this, they can
captivate a manВґs heart. For this reason, it proposes the idea that it takes more than the natural
beauty to be recognized by men. Because of this, I believe, the song gets across a message to
girls at young age to wear make up making them more insecure in their own skin. The alliteration
of the phrase primped and polished till you glow with pride also creates this musical rhythm of the
song and makes it catchier and memorable for the

Essay about Menstrual Synchrony
Menstrual Synchrony
Generations of women have noticed it: you and your sister, or your roommate, or lover, or mom,
get your periods at the same time. It doesn t always happen, but it catches the attention when it
does. Female rats living in the same air space ovulate at the same time. Menstruation in monkeys
synchronizes with the full moon (7). So is it all in our heads, or is the same pattern present in
humans?
The clearest argument against the existence of menstrual synchrony is that since the length of the
menstrual cycle varies from person to person (2), two women with different cycle lengths will never
synchronize. They may menstruate at the same time, but the next month they will be a little
different, the next month more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was later shown to be purely mechanical, though, with the swinging of the heaviest pendulum
merely rocking the shelf a little and throwing off the beat of other clocks (1).
The most likely theory is some kind of hormone change. Women s menstrual cyclesrespond to
contact with men, becoming shorter and more regular. So rather than a mechanical synchronization,
like pendulum clocks, the cause is more likely chemical. In 1971, Martha McClintock published a
study about the 135 women in her dorm at Wellesley College. She found that the synchronization of
menstruation between roommates and close friends did increase after the women began living
together. McClintock s explanation was pheromones. She co authored a followup experiment,
exposing women to chemical compounds from the armpits of other women. She concluded that this
did alter menstruation (4).
There are a number of problems dealing with the statistics of this and other experiments, though.
The data can be interpreted to either support or negate McClintock s conclusion, depending on how
it is analyzed (4).
Why synchronize? One possible benefit of simultaneous ovulation for the whole population is
simultaneous birthing. When female rats give birth at the same time, their pups are significantly
healthier and more likely to survive. Certain times of the year may be better for births, as when
lambs are born in spring rather than fall.

Physics Of Prime Numbers
Abstract The Physics of Prime Numbers [1] Yeow Liiyung University of Leeds Introduces the
prime numbers and the Riemann Hypothesis as an im portant unsolved problem in mathematics,
and suggests that there may be a physical interpretation or embodiment of the problem. Although
several physical interpretations are on offer, this paper focuses primarily on how the primes may be
connected to quantum physics and classical chaos, and seeks to compile evidence hitherto that this
might be true. We take a spec ulative look into the currently unknown Hermitian Hˆ operator, and
explore the attempts to identify it. Although the idea is rather complex, and most calculations and
evidence reach a level of technicality far beyond undergrad uate level, this paper tries to put the idea
forward on a level suitable for second year physics undergraduates understanding. 1. Prime Numbers
Mathematics is intricately related to physics, and is often employed to aid calculations or derive
further understanding on physical concepts. One fundamental field of mathematics is number
theory, specifically the area con cerning prime numbers. Prime numbers are numbers that do not
have factors other than itself and the number 1; they are not products of other numbers. In this
sense, they are like the atoms of numbers and arithmetic, because it is possible to uniquely construct
the rest of the numbers from products of prime numbers. While Christian Goldbach s conjecture
that every number is a sum of two

Postmodernism Versace
Postmodernism Versace Introduction The passageway of modernism has introduced innovative
components in the development of an individual s personality. The identity character as a social
construct is highlighted through the effect that fashion has brought in, experimenting, producing
and changing individual identity. The style and appearance of an individual is a portion of the
fashion s period and usually refers to the possibility of people to utilize fashion industry products.
This takes place just like any other consumer good that can be modified with respect to the
prevalent societal codes. The modifications can be made either through surpassing or through
copying them. Modern fashions are part of postmodernism. This is in the view of the fact that
developments and growth in the fashion industry accompany and express development of the
society through embracing postmodernism. Developments in the fashion industry offer options
regarding styles, image and clothing through rejecting the options presented in modernism. This
paper discusses Versace designs and their relationship to postmodernism. Postmodernism
Postmodernism refers to a broad term used to explain movements in philosophy, art, music and
critical theory. Postmodernism is viewed as a reaction to the pioneering modernist movement. In
literature and art, postmodernism responds against classical ideas. With respect to post

  • 2. Red Beard Reflection Red Beard is a film that reminds one that the distance to be travelled is far longer than the distance that was already covered. Not only in the case of medical studies, which happened to be the professional field of the protagonist of the movie but also in the whole gamut of activities of all people in this world: in their professions, in arts, in sports, in literature, in studies, in knowledge and in case of anything and everything, the unknown is several times more than the known and is spread like a vast ocean. This realisation is the essence of this Kurosawa Movie. Most of the humans are trapped in the notion that there is nothing more there to know and everything about them is perfect. It is nothing but a by product of a form of emotional weakness. When the world is shrinking to one s own self, people tend to have a wrong conviction that there is nothing beyond the limits they have set for themselves and even if there is something, it is not worthy compared to the things they have known or earned. It is hard to come out of that marshland. Every step one takes there is digging into one s own self: into... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Validity Of The Fama French Three Factor Model Validity of the Fama French Three Factor Model in China during 2011 2015 Validity of the Fama French Three Factor Model in China during 2011 2015 Chao Xiong Ohio University Abstract This paper mainly explores the validity of the Fama French Three Factors model during 2011 2015 by using 30 stocks which is from A share stock marketin China, in contrast to the results of Fama and French (1993) in U.S, there are some differences. Market risk premium has a significant in Chinese stock market, but for the factors SMB and HML, both of them are not as significant as the United States, but it still has a little marginal return. Meanwhile, we use Capital Assets Pricing Model to compare with Fama French Three Factors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To maximizing the interest of the investment, it depends on the information capture capability of investors in the stock market. Most investors in China start their investments without enough knowledge about the operating of stock market. They just follow what the most people do. If things continue in this way, economic bubble may occur. Therefore, it is particularly important for investors to get a general knowledge about the core of stock market. Over the past few decades, economists were continually developing a variety of asset pricing models. The first and the most important model is called Capital Assets Pricing Model, which was developed by William Sharpe, John Lintner and Jack Treynor (1964). It is based on the theory of composition and capitalization, which discussed the expected return and the relationship between risky assets in stock market. And now, Capital Asset Pricing Models becomes the pillar of multiple asset pricing models, and widely use in investment. However, since the 1970s, foreign economists began to do a lot of empirical research, specially in American capital market, which is able to provide a mature financial environment for the Capital Asset Pricing Model. Nevertheless, in 1980, there have been lots of negative verification results, economists started to discuss the Capital Asset Pricing Model, sometimes, it can not reasonably explain in stock market. • 4. Victim Rights A crime against the state is seen as a violation of the rule of law, while crime against people is seen as a violation of human rights, and both conditions lead to the punishment of the offender befitting the crime. In this process of achieving justice, those highly impacted by these wrong actions are often ignored; the battle between the offender and the Crown often makes the victim, a mere spectator. The Canadian Criminal JusticeSystem is continuing to do its best in addressing the dissatisfaction victims feel towards the authorities. However, study of literature shows that although victim rights have come a long way and are continuing to develop further, they are not successful in addressing the concerns of the victim. The article, Crime... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Victims often complain about not having enough information about their case and confusion regarding what rights they are entitled to (McDonald Grossman, 2014, p. 10). The reason victims feel this way is because they do not know how to access the programs set in place for them. Proper measures should be taken to allow clear communication between the Crown, victim, and lawyers. For instance, Mandi Gray, a sexual assault survivor, demanded eight thousand dollars in restitution money so she could hire a lawyer because she felt defenseless during the trial. Whereas, the national criminal lawyers association were not in favor of the offender paying such amount and argued that adequate support services are already available for victims (McGillivray, 2017). Incidences like these are likely to paint a negative picture of victim status in Canadian Justice System and decrease the number of victims accessing these resources. Moreover, it shows interest towards being more concerned about protecting the rights of an offender, rather than the victim who has been wronged. Also, if the information regarding these programs is easily available, it will likely increase the rate of victims making use of them. Therefore, to eliminate future issues like these, support services should expand their options available for victims and more counseling services should be provided to explain victims their rights beforehand. Information is the key towards getting rid of any confusion and suspicions regarding the fairness of the judicial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All the resources we have available to us as students are very helpful such as tutors, counselors, and financial aid advisers and I intend to take full advantage of all the resources available to me. Therefore, more funding is needed for community colleges because getting the proper help from advisers and having access to more counselors can be the difference maker in more students graduating and transferring to 4 year colleges. Second, community colleges need more funding for student services because all students are different and some students won t fully understand the material being taught in class. More funding is crucial for remedial classes. If community colleges received more funding for programs they can put some of that money to use by having more remedial classes and giving remedial teachers specialized training. The documentary called Discounted Dreams: High hopes and Harsh Realities in America s Community College s states that Most remedial teachers do not have specialized training . What this shows is that the schools don t put enough effort into these remedial classes which in turn means that students in remedial classes are still facing the same challenges they did in regular classes. If you don t give remedial teachers specialized training how can you expect them to reach the students in the remedial classes Last, Community Colleges need more funding for student s services and programs to help better prepare them for a 4 year college. • 7. Failure To Meet Zoning Laws City governments are tasked with writing and enforcing zoning laws that define all aspects of private use of property within the city s district. In order for businesses and other groups to build and use plots, or zones, of land that they own within the city s district, they must get approval from various city government officials. Failure to meet zoningrequirements for the specific use proposed, as interpreted by certain officials, results in denial of the entity from using their land for that purpose. I learned how zoning laws impact every aspect of use of private property. This includes the proposed usage of each building and the impact all structures have on the flow of foot and car traffic. I also learned all about the good OSA are doing in trying to solve the problems of re incarceration, homelessness, and drug addiction. When my father was diagnosed with cancer changed us, he and I, in some different ways. The life of a person suffering from this illness is really hard and I could realized it while growing. However, the traumatic moment of finding my dad dead was a shaking and painful event, which marked me and changed me for the rest of my life. That night I got up to go to the bathroom as usual. It was a small apartment where the only bathroom was in my parents bedroom. As I entered the room the fresh night air hit me, and the smell of an oncoming rain filled my lungs. The open window drew my attention. It was an old wooden casement window almost as big as the entire wall and nevertheless my favorite spot in the house. The stunning and panoramic scene from that window placed facing west was the perfect place to talk. There, we spent a lot of afternoon together with pointless conversations and a live picture. However, that night, gray threatening clouds were filling the sky. There was not any star to see. Predicting a big rainstorm, I disposed myself to close the window, but not before checking around if any of my parents were awake. It was a really snug space, even though it was the master bedroom. Consequently, it was almost unfurnished only occupied by an ordinary floor lamp, a twin bed, and a reclining leather chair. My mother was sleeping in bed while my dad was in the ... • 10. Odysseus, A Real Hero Odysseus, King of Ithaca How do you define a hero? In the adventures of The Odyssey, an epic poem written by Homer, Odysseus, a Greek war hero goes through a series of adventures and tests to return to his homeland of Ithaca. In his journey, Odysseus must prove that he is an able leader. Throughout the epic poem the Odyssey, Odysseus portrays this example of an able leader as, he is very intellectual and quick minded, and he is very brave and courageous. Odysseus is very intelligent and quick minded in many dangerous situations. For example, when he was sailing back from Troy he mentions to his men while plundering Ismarus, Back, and quickly! Out to sea again! (Homer 993). In the situation while plundering this stronghold, he warns his men not to be greedy and that the fight is not over till it is over. This displays how wise Odysseus is and that he has a smart mind. Additionally, Odysseus shows some quick thinking in the encounter with the Cyclops as, My name is Nohbdy: mother, father, and friends, everyone calls me Nohbdy (999). Even Odysseus is upset, he can still remain calm and vigilant. While he was in Polyphemus s cave, he is quick enough to confuse and trick the Cyclops so that when he screams out that Nohbdy had ruined and attacked him, none of the other Cyclops s will come to his aid. Finally, in some situations Odysseus was having hard times to control his men yet he continually maintained his determination to get his crew and himself back to Ithaca. This ... • 12. The Pros And Cons Of Stop And Frrisk Case On October 31, 1963, a veteran detective of 39 years in downtown Cleveland noticed two men (one being the petitioner Terry) walking back in forth in front of the same store numerous times each. When they returned they would talk between each other for a few moments. Then, the men met with a third man and stood outside suspiciously chatting before the third man left (Terry v. Ohio). The officer suspected that the men were casing the stores for a stick up or robbery and began to follow the two men (Oyez). Again, the two men met with the third man around the block in front of another store and again conversed. That is when the detective approached the three men, announcing himself as a policeofficer and asking the names of the men (Terry v. Ohio). The men replied with a low mumble, upon which the officer grabbed Terry, spun him around and patted him down (ACLU Ohio). Upon patting down his overcoat, he found a pistol on Terry, and then another pistol on the other man that was originally with Terry, before patting down and arresting the three men on concealed weapon charges. This type of stop and frisk technique is now known as the Terry frisk because of this (Argiriou). This case revolves around whether the stop and frisk by the officer violated the Fourth Amendment rights of Terry, which provides protection from illegal search and seizures (Oyez). • 15. A Comparison Of Eulogy For Mahatma Gandhi Extended Writing Project Leaders.Every country has and needs them for important decisions and to help stop problems and maintain order. Without leaders we would have nothing in society but chaos and destruction. Leadership to people can mean many different things but to almost all people Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi were both some of the best leaders known to man. And both of these incredible leaders were so impactful to their country that the had stories written about them. This is what we will be comparing and why Eulogy For Mahatma Gandhi is better than Long Walk to Freedom in persuading the audience about which one was a greater supporter of human rights. But they both are good in different ways. Gandhi inspired India to peacefully protest against Great Britain s rule while Mandela became the first black president of South Africa and stopped segregation there. This will show why Jawaharlal Nehru s Eulogy For Mahatma Gandhi is better than Nelson Mandela s Long Walk to Freedom in persuading the reader that their person is a better supporter of human rights. Nelson Mandela s Long Walk to Freedom is an autobiography about his life trying to abolish segregation in South Africa. But in the Study Sync exert Mandela hardly talks about how much he did to support human rights and it mostly talks about what state the country was in and what he thinks about more than what he did. But from what we can get from the excerpt there is great information about what he did to defend human right and how he did it. Mandela writes, I knew as well as I knew anything that the oppressor must be liberated just as surely as the oppressed. This reaches out to all people not just black people and shows that Mandela wants to help everyone not just the people who have been enslaved or oppressed. Mandela also shares that, ...I joined the African National Congress, and that is when the hunger for my own freedom became the greater hunger for the freedom of my people to live their lives with dignity and self respect that animated my life, that transformed a frightened young man into a bold one, that drove a law abiding attorney to become a criminal... BOOK REVIEW Lifelong learning in the Global Knowledge Economy: Challenge for Developing Countries Lifelong learning is becoming necessary in many countries and it is more than just education and training beyond formal schooling. This book indicated that a lifelong learning framework encompasses learning throughout the lifecycle, form early childhood to retirement, and in different learning environments, formal, nonformal, and informal. This report represents the World Bank s first attempt to lay out an analytical framework for understanding the challenges of developing a lifelong learning system. This book, which is as well as a report presenting lifelong learning in the global knowledge economy: challenges for developing countries, explores the challenges to education and training system that the knowledge economy presents. It outlines policy options for addressing these challenges and developing viable systems of lifelong learning in developing countries and countries with transition economies. This book addresses 4 questions: 1, what does a national education and training system, including its formal and nonformal components, need to do to support knowledge based economic growth? 2, how can developing countries and countries with transition economies promote lifelong learning, and what challenges do they face in doing so? 3, given limited resources, what type of governance framework promotes lifelong learning for people in general and disadvantaged groups in ... Tobacco encomiendas were built across the island and the crop was shipped to Europe in exchange for manufactured goods. • 20. Moll Flanders Analysis In Daniel Defoe s Moll Flanders we follow a woman named Moll throughout her life. She encounters several serious situations, gets married five times, and has many children that she leaves in the care of their fathers or paternal grandparents. As a society, the first emotion that comes to our minds when we recognize these behaviors in a woman is disgust, after all, how could a woman leave her children? However, if a man did the very same some readers wouldn t give it a second thought. Defoe s story brings to light societal concerns regarding women in his time period and how society should address them. The key issue is the number of children Moll has and leaves behind. In total, she has 12 children by the end of her story; three are dead, seven that are left with their fathers or grandparents, and two of which are left unaccounted for. Only one does she ever reunite with and not until late in life. To society, the question remains, why she didn t try her best to bring up and support her children from her first husband. Scholars question whether it was due to her own abandonment as an infant and lack of a motherly figure to teach her how to love her own children, they were nothing more than a happenstance of sex, or if it was because she was never able to feel secure of her own basic needs and thus couldn t think to take care of another s. The research study involved the collaboration of the physics, engineering and biology departments to further understand the nature of snake movements. Sidewinders are snakes that are able to move on sand at different inclinations because they do not slither but rather employ a different mechanism of movement. From the observations of snakes in nature, the results showed that their locomotion is truly optimized based on their repeated operations being maintained in an effective zone. The robot snake was manipulated with different durations and amounts of lifts and contacts that would vary, but be maintained in the ineffective zone due to the failed movement on sand. Another research study involved the examination of the mechanisms employed by sidewinders for turning in a different direction of movement. The results suggested that sidewinders change directions horizontally or vertically by changing the angle of their head. An analysis of the robot snake demonstrated an unobservable locomotion that it is possible to move in both a horizontal and vertical wave movement on the sand in order to change directions via a differential or reversal turning locomotion. Through the investigation of these research studies, Dr. Mendelson and his co researchers were able to discover that in effect sidewinders suffer a cost of being able to implement a different locomotion on inclinations of sand. Sidewinders are not able to avoid obstacles as easily as snakes that slither which can just turn their heads in a slight angle away from the obstacle in order to avoid it. The results showed that the reason for this cost is due to the mechanism that sidewinders use for which the head does not reach the obstacle first to avoid the obstacle beforehand instead of being tangled by it with their body. I try to take on every new assignment as a new opportunity to expand my knowledge or learn something new. When it comes to poems though, that shelf is bare. I have only started caring about poems for the last six weeks. I like poems, I simply do not have prior experience with them. So, I took a copout, and chose The Bells by Eager Allen Poe. The alliteration from here just keeps getting better. Starting with the next line and on to the eighth, In the startled ear of night / How they scream out their affright! / Too much Horrified to speak, / They can only shriek, shriek, / Out of tune, (Poe). So, the key words here are, scream, speak, and shriek. There is no brain trickery here just the same consent. There is also a line that is only in the first and last stanza that is In a sort of runic rhyme (Poe) this line creates a sort of image. Runic, or a rune is an incantation that is written on an object to create a permeate effect. So, the runic rhyme hints toward a more mystical element to the bells. This is a foreshadowing of the last stanza. This line is first used in line ten and is not seen again till line 94. In the last stanza, is where that poem hits a runic apex of alliteration. This excerpt from the fourth stanza, I personally feel, is a good representation of the poem. What a world of solemn thought their monody compels! / In the silence of the night, / How we shiver with affright / At the melancholy meaning of their tone! (Poe). This is my favorite part of this poem. Solemn silence shiver, melancholy meaning, and their tone are all alliteration. These four lines are build up to the next three. For every sound that floats / From the rust within their throats / Is a groan. (Poe). Then with the assonance of tone, floats, throats, and groan in combination with the metaphor in the second line creates a striking image. • 34. Satire In The Entertainment Industry Why is it that people are so attracted to all forms of entertainment? Is there a greater purpose behind all those hours spent glued to screens? In the media, satirical entertainment has emerged as a force revealing truths. Merriam Webster defines satire as a literary work holding up human vices and follies to ridicule or scorn . The role of satirein the entertainmentindustry is to expose the weaknesses and corruption in society. Entertainment does not have the capacity to ruin society; entertainment simply reflects society because it engages and appeals to the common experiences of the audience. Throughout civilization, entertainment is used to reveal the true nature of individuals. It can only be assumed that those who object to satirical forms of entertainment must have faults that they fear will be brought to light. Prominent figures in the nineteenth and twentieth century despised satire. Rulers during those times were cautious of entertainment dissolving the ties of our social order through citizens recognizing the corruption around them and rebelling. A form of entertainment that has been around for centuries is the political cartoon. Political cartoons utilize parody and caricature in an effort to interest and educate an audience. There are four basic kinds of market structures in economics: perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and monopoly. Perfect competition is the one that is being focused on predominantly. A perfectly competitive market is a market in which all market participants are price takers (Krugman Wells 1). Price takers are producers and consumers whose actions have no effect on the market price of the good (Krugman Wells 1). A perfect competitive market structure consists of three aspects that will be discussed. When perfect competitioncomes to mind, the Organic FoodMarket structure can be associated to it or the perfectly competitive market industry. In the Organic market, all the farmers in the industry are each producing the same product for the buyers and sellers. The consumption of the individual consumer or the production of the individual producer will not affect the market price of the goods. In a perfectly competitive market all participating producers and consumers are price takers (Krugman Wells 1). As stated by Paul Krugman and Robin Wells, in a perfectly competitive market neither consumption decisions by individual producers affect the market price of the good (Krugman Wells 1). There are two necessary conditions for perfect competition, the first being that none of the producers have a large market share, and the second being that the goods produced are being regarded as a ... • 40. How Did Montag Change In Fahrenheit 451 When a society abandons the past, the future becomes more unfamiliar than ever before. This is a concept present throughout Ray Bradbury s novel Fahrenheit 451, in which the society has abandoned reading in its entirety. Guy Montag, the main protagonist in the story, is a fireman. The word fireman itself has lost its historical meaning in the story and has changed from men who put out fires to men who start fires and burn books. The reason these men burn books is because they were outlawed after people stopped reading them, and this is done in order to maintain social equality. With the abandonment of reading and intellectualism, society has changed and, arguably not for the better. The main character, Montag, slowly becomes more aware of the society he lives in through his new neighbor Clarisse McClellan, an old lady with a collection of books, and a known intellectual named Professor Faber.... He listens and learns from her and learns what life can be from her. Clarisse gives Montag thoughts and ideas he has never had before and this sparks a strive for knowledge in Montag. Montag begins to ask questions, similar to how Clarisse does. The fireman wishes to learn more about his position in society and begins to slowly understand what is happening around him. The reader can tell the progression of awareness in Montag and there is an evident distinction of change throughout the story. It doesn t always happen, but it catches the attention when it does. Female rats living in the same air space ovulate at the same time. Menstruation in monkeys synchronizes with the full moon (7). So is it all in our heads, or is the same pattern present in humans? The clearest argument against the existence of menstrual synchrony is that since the length of the menstrual cycle varies from person to person (2), two women with different cycle lengths will never synchronize. This was later shown to be purely mechanical, though, with the swinging of the heaviest pendulum merely rocking the shelf a little and throwing off the beat of other clocks (1). The most likely theory is some kind of hormone change. Women s menstrual cyclesrespond to contact with men, becoming shorter and more regular. So rather than a mechanical synchronization, like pendulum clocks, the cause is more likely chemical. In 1971, Martha McClintock published a study about the 135 women in her dorm at Wellesley College. She found that the synchronization of menstruation between roommates and close friends did increase after the women began living together. McClintock s explanation was pheromones. She co authored a followup experiment, exposing women to chemical compounds from the armpits of other women. She concluded that this did alter menstruation (4). There are a number of problems dealing with the statistics of this and other experiments, though. The data can be interpreted to either support or negate McClintock s conclusion, depending on how it is analyzed (4). Why synchronize? One possible benefit of simultaneous ovulation for the whole population is simultaneous birthing. When female rats give birth at the same time, their pups are significantly healthier and more likely to survive. Certain times of the year may be better for births, as when lambs are born in spring rather than fall. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
