Human Activity and Energy Sources
Earth s resources, for instance water, productive farming land and energy, outlines the basic
foundations of our continued existence on earth. However, with the continued human activities, for
example logging and charcoal burning, these resources are quickly being depleted. Human
inhabitation and increased consumption of the natural resources is resulting in untold destruction. The
climate change being experienced globally, the rapidly depleting freshwater catchments, the dwindling
forest cover, the ever reducing fish stash in our seas and oceans and farmland dereliction are some of
the effects resulting from human occupation and activities. Poaching, another human activity, is
resulting in the extinction of certain animal species thus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sustainability is a model that has been developed to ensure that human life is not threatened by
continuing depletion of the natural resources. This model has also been adopted in order to ensure that
the ecosystem is protected. Sustainability is being promoted in order to ensure that human beings and
the environment coexist within certain set restrictions so as to ensure that the ecosystem continues to
support life. In addition, this model ensures that humans understand the relationship which manages
the balance between their activities on the ecosystem. Through sustainability, human beings will be
able to utilize the available natural resources sparingly with the view that future generations are
depending on it too (Maria and Luciana 3). Some of the renewable sources of energy are solar,
hydropower, biomass and wind. The use of these energy sources ensures that the ecosystem remain
self serving and thus able to sustain human life (Diane and Shubhayu 12). The uptake and use of solar
energy is yet to be fully utilized because in America, the percentage of people using this energy is
minimal. In the United States, solar energy represents almost a half of one percent of the total
electricity use, a number that is insignificant (Diane and Shubhayu 12). The human population is yet
to realize that solar energy can be used extensively in both heating and lighting. Moreover,

Ernest Cline is an American Novelist that lives in Austin, Texas with his wife and kids. He is a self
proclaimed full time geek. Armada by Ernest Cline is a Young Adult writer that has written the award
winning book Ready Player One, The Importance of Being Ernest, and the screenplay for the 2009
film Fanboys. When Cline started writing, he initially did slam poetry, songs, and other types of
literature, but nothing like a novel. After he had written the screenplay for the 2009 film Fanboys, then
he did a spoken word called Ultraman is Airwolf. In this spoken word, Mr. Cline talks about society to

This book shows the feeling of an adventure book with a slight geeky twist. It had surprising twists,
turns, and story elements that prove the books worth; I feel as if the people who would read Armada
are 80 s fans. Armada is a book that I would recommend to people; it has many different themes that
could apply to many different types of individuals. Even though there are some flaws in certain plot
points, it s still a great book. The sense of adventure and the fact that the main character is a young
adult will apply to the target audience. Just thinking about the book as a whole makes me happy that I
read the book. This book is definitely for the geeky, 80 s loving, gamers out there that like to read.
Throughout the story, it keeps you guessing what is going to happen next. To sum up the book, it is a
geeky coming to age story about struggle, determination, and living up to your fullest potential. I
believe that Armada is a 7.5/10, but overall a good

The Human Condition In Art
The human condition is defined as:
the characteristics, key events, and situations which compose the essentials of human existence, such
as birth, growth, emotionality, aspirations, conflict, and mortality. The diversity of the human
condition can be thought of as the very broad topic which has been and continues to be pondered and
analyzed from many perspectives, including those of religion, philosophy, history, art, literature,
anthropology, psychology, and biology, (Human Condition).
For the first piece of artwork that I am going to discuss that exemplify the aspect of human condition
would be Noli Me Tangere by Titian. In this piece of art, the artists depicts Mary Magdalene kneeling
before the newly risen Jesus. This is an example of human condition because in the artwork, Mary is
emotional. Mary has just seen someone who dies three days earlier and is now risen and back.
The artists uses the human condition in many ways besides just emotionally. The artists uses the form
of conflict in the painting. In the human condition, conflict is one of the characteristics and the artists
focuses on that because you can see Mary kneeling and tugging at the robe of Jesus while he has a
face of concern because he knows what he is to do and that he is to keep going to not only speak to
Mary but to the other disciples.
Another human condition example in the art work is mortality. Jesus was crucified three days before
his resurrection and is now risen. There are not many cases

The Judicial Selection And Appointment For Securing An...
Discuss the importance of the judicial selection and appointment in securing an independent judiciary.
(50 marks) Judicial independence is the concept that the judiciary needs to be kept away from the
other branches of government. That is, courts should not be subject to improper influence from the
other branches of government. Judicial independence is very important in a democracy as the public
need to have confidence that their cases will be decided fairly and in accordance with the law. Judicial
selection and appointment is important in securing an independent judiciary as seen by the
politicisation of the judiciary. In the UK and US the system of electing Justices is highly politicised. In
the US it is ultimately up to the President to choose a Justice who fits his political ideology and
philosophy. There is a clear divide between Justices nominated by Republican Presidents (Scalia,
Thomas, Roberts, and Alito) and those nominated by Democrats President (Ginsburg, Breyer,
Sotomayor, and Kagan). Presidents seek to nominate Justices who share similar political views.
Republicans tend to nominate strict constructionists who favour a more narrow reading of the
Constitution and Democrats tend to appoint loose constructionists who believe in a broad
interpretation of the Constitution. Elena Kagen received only a single Republican vote and Sonia
Sotomayor did not receive any. It is unlikely that the Republicans considered them to be
underqualified, and more likely that they

Book Of Job Religion
The Book of Job, attempts to address the question: why do bad things happen to good people? This
story of pious pessimism revolves around Job, a righteous man who is tested as the result of a wager
between God and Satan, in which everything is taken from him. Satan questions whether, if all of Job
s riches and children are taken away from him, will he turn upon his Creator. As one known to be a
righteous man and God s faithful servant, Job initially proclaims his unwavering faith in his God,
regardless of his circumstances. Even though Job is stripped of everything he holds dear, he
nonetheless holds firm to his faith throughout the ordeals that takes place, confirming his faithful
nature and revealing him to be a worthy follower of God. Despite being tested, Job holds fast to his
integrity. The Job tradition, as exemplified in the folk tradition found in chapters 1 2, serves as a
model of accepting both the good and bad times in our lives, while remaining faithful to God even
though things may not be in line with our desires. From this perspective, every adverse occurrence is a
test of one s loyalty to God and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
God is involved in the test, as is clearly indicated by the limits He places on Satan s action. Thus, it is
clear that God is ultimately in charge of the outcome. When things are going the way one may desire,
it becomes relatively easy to remain faithful to God and continue to believe that a benevolent God is
in charge. There is an implicit message conveyed through this narrative: However, when things take a
sudden turn for the worse, it is during such difficult and perplexing times that one s faith in God is
needed most. The Satan, while testing Job, believed that Job would act disloyally to God, as he
thought Job only served God because it was to his benefit. The whole point of the folk tradition is to

Business Administration And Human Resource Management
Quantitative research is simply an extravagant name for analyzing data with numerical values. While
it does require numbers to calculate accurate hypothesis, quantitative research can be used to
eventually create hard factual data. Within my current field of study, quantitative research methods are
being used very frequently. I am studying in both business administration and human resource
management and will identify how both fields could benefit from this research method below.
Additionally, the pitfalls or negatives will be analyzed to ensure that there is a clear understanding of
how best to use this method of research to the absolute maximum.
First, let us examine how the world of business uses quantitative research methods on a daily basis. In
the business world, numbers generate all outlooks via positive or negative. For instance, when a
company is analyzing a new market, they will likely run some quantitative research to ensure there are
positive numbers to generate a profit. This could be numbers for population, spending trends or even
stock analysis. All of these examples would be identified through case studies.
However, quantitative research can also be used to track data within the company such as production,
manpower hours, quality of work and mishaps. This allows the management staff to keep operations
running smoothly and also monitor areas that could benefit from improved productivity. This method
could also be used to assist in determining awards,

Position Statement Callaway Golf Company should change their focus and perception of marketing
because their premium priced golf clubs do not match today s hard economic struggles that average
golfers are in as well as the changing golf culture that is threatening their sales. Callaway needs to
focus on securing the customers that are loyal and who are true friends to their company. They can

They had many loyal true friend customers that bought their clubs time and time again. A true friend
customer is loyal as well as profitable to the company and CGC s true friend customers have been
fading over the last several years and they are turning into butterflies or barnacles. CGC is a top golf
club developer but they are most well known for their driver the Big Bertha series. If a golfer wants
the best of each different type of club, they might only buy a CGC driver or a putter. If a customer
bought just a select few of clubs from CGC they would be considered a butterfly to the company. If
CGC would offer discounts on entire packages of clubs and maybe even add free apparel, this may
secure true friend relationships with customers like they had when the company was first established.
Another problem has occurred for CGC and that has to deal with the rapid development of new clubs
on the market. Producing new clubs at such a fast pace may leave customers feeling uncertain of their
clubs or other golf equipment that they have just purchased recently from CGC.
Business Portfolio Analysis CGC still to this day remains a powerful and successful player in the golf
industry even though their sales have dropped 17% since 1998. The economy in the last several years
may be a large contributing factor to the decline in sales as well as golf becoming more of a leisure
sport.

The Franco-German War
One country in Europe had land and power in which other countries could not withstand, Germany.
But France, on the other hand, wanted back their territory which Germany took, attempted to
overthrow the unconquered Germans, and was not victorious. When France began to mobilize their
troops, there were horses without harnesses, canons without ammunition, and machine guns with men
who had no idea how to use them ( Franco German War ). The Germans knew about their power and
took the advantage of many countries at the time. Many wars were affected by the snowball effect ,
where after one problem, there are many other drawbacks following the problem before; for instance,
the Franco Prussian War. The history between France and Germany displayed many strengths and
weaknesses which led to the inflation within the government, to proceeding to very important land lost

Marketing Of The Craft Beer Industry Essay
Five Major Trends
Rivalry in the craft beer industry is high and in addition to the excise tax and overall high
manufacturing cost have promoted mergers and acquisitions in order to consolidate and globalize the
industry. Anheuser Busch InBev merged with Belgium based Inbev as one of the major transactions in
2008, forming Anheuser Busch InBev. Heineken (HEINY) another major brewer, acquired the beer
business of FEMSA in 2010. As in 2013, Anheuser Busch InBev one of the market leaders acquired
Grupo Modelo, Mexican brewer. In the following year 2014, Anheuser Busch InBev reacquire
Oriental Brewery, South Korea brewer. (Sharon Bailey) The acquisitions combined their market share
and currently owns 41.2 percent of the US market.(Statista)
Although sales of premium brands have fallen in a steady response to the growing popularity of the
craft beer. The industry revenue has been stable over the past 5 years. As a result, from 2011 to 2016
the industry revenue is expected an increase and growth annually at 6.7 percent over the five
years, with a total of $39.5 billion . (IBISWorld iExpert) In the long term, these numbers are expected
that grow 0.9 percent annually within the next five years. The potential growth will be seen in the
traditional and premium beer sector. As a response, the giant companies in the industry Anheuser
Busch InBev and MillerCoors look forward into the merges and acquisitions as a strategy to maintain
market dominance. The strategy is based on the

Do Not Assume Who I Am By My Appearance Essay
Do Not Assume Who I Am By My Appearance Nowadays, stereotypes seem to be the way we justify
and categorize society. It can also be said that stereotypes are one way in which we define the world in
order to see it. Because, if the world isn t defined, then how can we as people, grasp the concept of it?
How do we justify our action, and those of others? People often, prejudge others or objects by
grouping them into categories or styles they are familiar with, and then treat them by their experiences
or just follow what other people usually do, without questioning their actions and motives. That causes
miscommunication, argument or losing opportunities to broaden the life experience. Stereotypes are
usually formed based on an individual s appearance, race, and gender that would put labels on people.
The appearance of a person in general is one of the most important causes of stereotypes. People
usually tend to stereotype a person from what they see and think. In Brent Staples Just Walk On By: A
Black Man Ponders His Power to Alter Public Space, he experienced a certain stereotype from a white
woman because of his appearance. He explained, To her, the youngish black man a broad six feet two
inches with a bread and billowing hair, both hands shoved into the pockets of a bulky military jacket
seemed menacing close (Staples 394). That white woman labeled Staples as a dangerous person who
might hurt her, so she ran away as soon as she could. In other words, people

Experiences hold power to shape people mentally, emotionally, and physically, which then leads them
to find coping mechanisms, whether consciously or subconsciously. Anja Spiegelman sought release
from her tormented memories of the Holocaust through suicide, which left Vladeck to bare the
memories himself. His coping mechanisms include drawing for his son s graphic novel and sharing his
experiences. Art Spiegelman, the son of Holocaust survivors, sought peace with survivor s guilt
through art. He constructed Prisoner on the Hell Planet and then the graphic novel Maus as a method
to understand the divide between his parents and him, as well as to piece together his family history.

regarding his mother s suicide. Finally, the last page of the comic in panel two depicts a combined
image of Anja s suicide, a pile of Jew s bodies, a child in a concentration camp uniform, Spiegelman
with his head in his hand, and a knife cutting the wrist of Anja s arm. The words Menopausal
Depression, Hitler did it, Mommy, and Bitch light the image with jarring expressions, while at the top

Emergency Medicine Personal Statement
Throughout the majority of my life, I had dreams of becoming an attorney and did not consider
medicine as a profession until much later in my academic career. I had previously pictured myself
pursuing a career in intellectual property rights and hoped to become a patent attorney, given my
interest in the scientific field. My interest in patent law led me to take science courses that piqued my
curiosity. I soon found myself involved in undergraduate laboratory research, focused on discovering
new drugs to treat chronic pain syndromes while preventing drug tolerance and limiting the side
effects of conventionally used narcotic pain medications. During my last year of college, I was
accepted into law school, however I ultimately did not feel that I was truly pursuing my passion and
decided to withdraw my acceptance. I then found myself with a college degree and an unclear
direction in life, unsure of what new career I wanted to pursue. Shortly after graduating, I discovered a
medical scribe vacancy in my hometown s Emergency Department (ED). Working as a scribe in the
ED was a profound experience that undoubtedly shaped my career path and inspired me to become a
physician and apply to medical school.

The Teachings Of Phaedrus And Alcibiades
Phaedrus, an aristocrat, takes the stage first at the symposium. He explains that Erōs is one of the
primordial gods, and that the love between a boy and a lover is the greatest love that exists. The lover
is meant to guide the boy, and the two must lead each other to examine themselves and feel ashamed.
...[The boy] is especially ashamed before his lover when he is caught in something shameful (Sym.
178E). Phaedrus later adds that ...Love is...the most powerful in helping men gain virtue and
blessedness... (Sym. 180B). Alcibiades is the perfect example of shame when he speaks about
Socrates. He says that Socrates is the only man in the world who has made [him] feel shame... (Sym.

Alcibiades proves what Pausanias has said about Heavenly Love it s an attachment to the soul and
intelligence of a man, which Alcibiades feels toward Socrates. Eryximachus, a doctor, builds on
Pausanias speech. He says that Heavenly Love and those who feel it ...must be encouraged and
protected (Sym. 187D). Alcibiades encourages his own Heavenly Love for Socrates by praising
Socrates himself. He devotes his entire speech to the philosopher s image. There is not much else to
compare between Eryximachus and Alcibiades because Eryximachus simply adds to what Pausanias
has already stated. Aristophanes is a playwright who s eager to take a different approach to the origins
of erōs. He says that humans were once great beings with four arms, four legs, two faces and two sets
of sexual organs. There were male, female and androgynous beings, which were both male and
female. They became prideful and planned to ascend to the heavens and attack the gods. The gods
couldn t kill the humans because then no one would worship them. Zeus instead opts to cut the human
beings in two and asks Apollo to smooth out their edges. This decision created unforeseen

His beautiful artworks are now displayed in many institutions around the country being Brooklyn

The Life Of Constantine, A Roman Emperor Of The Roman Empire
The life of Constantine, a Roman emperor from 306 to 337 AD, is explained by two different accounts
that differ from each other. The first one that was written by Eusebius in 337 AD states that
Constantine is a victorious, pious emperor who helps others and orders the construction of sacred
places to honor Christ. The second account was written in 520 AD by Zosimus and it states that
Constantine is an impious, arrogant and selfish emperor who is responsible of the Roman Empire s
collapse. Eusebius, a bishop, wrote a eulogy to honor Constantine upon his death in 337 AD. He pays
his respect to Constantine by stating all, indeed, with one voice and one mouth, declared that
Constantine had appeared by the grace of God as a general blessing to mankind. In this statement,
Eusebius clearly emphasizes the importance that Constantine has in the Romans life, and how they all
agree that in fact he is a good influence for the Romans. He also considers him as the victorious, the
pious, the common benefactor who helps people and worships God. Others characteristics about
Constantine s personality are depicted by Eusebius such as Constantine s ambition and his goal
oriented mind. He s goal oriented personality is depicted when the author states, (...) at the same time
granting ample supplies of money, and commanding that the house of prayer worthy of the worship of
God should be erected near the Saviour s tomb on a scale of rich and royal greatness. In this statement,

twenties, thirties, forties, fifties, and sixties without success (Schneir, 369). Various organizations such
as the National Woman s Party (those who proposed it), National Organization for Women, the
Women s Department of the United Auto Workers, and many other feminists worked most if not all of
their lives to pass this specific amendment. In the early 1970 s, the House approved the amendment by
a large ratio of 354 to 23. Additionally, in 1972, the Senate also passed the amendment by another
shocking ratio of 84 to 8. Unfortunately, the amendment did not pass by its deadline of June 30th,
1982 by only thirty five states approving it for ratification by at least thirty eight states (Schneir, 370).
There were various reasons why the amendment did not pass, and Miriam Schneir discussed several of
these in the section Equal Rights Amendment in the book Feminism in Our Time. Though the Equal
Rights Amendment had various dedicated supporters working to pass it, it also had several Anti Equal
Rights Amendment working to make sure it DID NOT pass. One key figure in this Anti Equal Rights
Amendment was Phyllis Schlafly. Schlafly argued that the passing of the Equal Rights Amendment
would cause there to be a boom in the creation of unisex bathrooms. She argued that bathrooms

The Decline Of The West Essay
What does the perfect life look like? Is it a big house, a beautiful family or a dozen of zeros on your
bank account? But what lies beneath the surface, is everything really so picture perfect when the light
goes out and the room goes dark? The expression money can t buy happiness comes to mind, because
money doesn t mean a thing if you lead a meaningless life lacking happiness. The effect materialism,
vanity and greed have on family life is central in the short story The Decline of the West written by
Hanif Kureishi in 2010, where the author paints a picture of the shallow life of a dysfunctional family.

when also she begins to demand things from the delivery man Mike at which point it seems like he has

The Trial No Search Warrant
Facts of the Case:
Mapp was arrested for possessing obscene pictures, after police illegally obtained them. At the time
Ohio had a statute that made the possession of obscene literature criminal. At Mapp s trial no search
warrant was admitted into evidence, however she was still convicted. The Court citing Wolf vs
Colorado found that evidence obtained from an unlawful search and seizure is admissible in criminal
prosecution. On appeal, the Supreme Court of the United States reversed the judgment and remanded
the case to the Court. unlawful searches and seizure right to privacy

However, the concurring opinion gave by Justice Hugo Black stated that the fourth amendment ban
against unreasonable searches and seizures along with the fifth amendment s ban against forced self
incrimination defends the exclusionary rule.
Another concurring opinion was made by Justice William Douglas believed that the officers had
violated Mapp s right to privacy .
Dissenting Opinion:
Justice Harlan, Justices Frankfurter and Whittaker dissented. Justice Harlan wrote the dissenting
opinion. In his dissent, Justice Harlan argued that the majority confronted the wrong issue in its
decision. Because Mapp was convicted under an Ohio statute criminalizing the possession of obscene
material, Justice Harlan believed that the new and pivotal issue was whether this statute is consistent
with the rights of free thought and expression assured against state action by the Fourteenth
Amendment.(Mapp vs Ohio) He concluded that the majority had ignored the principles of judicial
restraint and stare decisis, and had reached out to consider the exclusionary rule issue. According to
Justice Harlan, this was a First Amendment case and not an appropriate case for extending the Fourth
Amendment s exclusionary rule to the states. He also concluded that it was wrong to impose the
exclusionary rule, designed for the federal criminal process, on the states which, in his view, bore

American Youth Culture
The end of the World War II marked the beginning of a new era, not only for America but for the
entire world. In the United States, the end of the war was celebrated and hope for the future began.
America s future looked bright even though there still was uncertainty with the threat of the Soviet
Union. A distinctive youth culture emerged during the postwar era. Also the suburbs were considered a
popular place to live. It was a socially conservative time. Gender roles for men and women were
clearly defined. This era s emphasis was guided upon social conformity and family.
Kelley stated that the most popular comics of the Golden Age were the teen humor comics, most
notably the Archie comics (11). After the war superheroes declined, and a comic book seal of approval
was created. This seal made sure that comics were created wholesome, appropriate for the youth
culture and in good moral standing. There was to be no signs of homosexuality, perversion, sex before
marriage or disrespect to authority or the mention of alcohol and drugs. If Superman s goal was to
defeat the Nazis, then Archie s goal was to ask Betty to the big dance (Kelley 11). One example of
Archie not wanting to encourage homosexuality is in the Elvis scene in Comics and Cartoons ... Show

Nursing Fluid Balance Report
The learning objective to be addressed in this essay is to be more adept at filling out a fluid balance
chart and understand its importance. I intend to use the Driscoll (2007) reflective cycle as I find the
root process of interrogating and assessing events the most helpful at being reflective. The fluid and
electrolyte balance monitoring and management are essential and highly significant to nursing care as
highlighted by Jevon and Ewens (2007). Patients suffering from a negative fluid balance is understood
as suffering in dehydration according to the definition of dehydration by Jevon (2010) Some
symptoms of dehydration, as described by Goertz (2006) include thirst, headaches, dry skin, weight

and oliguriaThey are at risk of hypovolaemia due to fluid loss during the procedure Hypovolaemia,
the decrease in the volume of blood circulating in the body, can lead to tachycardia. A tachycardic
heart rate is not efficient in oxygen delivery to the organs. The increase of work demand and decrease
of oxygen delivered on the heart can cause rate related ischaemia (Hutchins, 2013). A study conducted
by Vaughn et. al (2014) showed that oliguria, which left untreated can lead to tubular necrosis and
acute kidney injury (AKI)..She reminded me of its importance in delivering excellent care and
ensuring the patient s good health. The chastisement that I received from my mentor made me feel
somewhat disappointed as I felt that such a simple mistake could have been easily avoided. Her
reminder of the importance of giving the highest quality of care also made me realise the importance
of little thing in the care of the patient. Little things, when put together, make something big and
significant. Although I was disappointed with myself for making such a trivial mistake, I soon realised
that my mentor gave me an important job which I should have been more careful with. I understood
that I am accountable for my actions and partly accountable for whatever outcome may befall to the

The Helicopter Flight Controls Of Fly By Wire System
ABSTRACT
Helicopter is known for being extremely challenging to fly. The helicopter flight controls enables the
pilot to attain a controlled flight. The flight controls differ drastically when compared to the fixed
wing aircraft. The advancement in flight controls namely fly by wire system has resulted in reducing
the complexity of the system. The state of the art fly by wire system has resulted in increasing the
performance and at the same time reduces the workload of a pilot. The four main controls include
collective pitch control, cyclic pitch control, throttle control and anti torque pedals. The employment
of fly by wire has thus paved way for reduction in weight whilst providing more space for comfort and
effortless handling. The commercial helicopter are beginning to utilize the fly by wire technology after
being tried and tested by fixed wing aircraft and military helicopter. The goal of this technical essay is
to provide an overview of the evolution helicopter flight controls from the earlier complex analog
phase to the present simplified digital phase.
Introduction
In the early 1920s, designing the rotors to attain an efficient flight was the utmost priority. The next
decade was followed by, perfection of control systems and its mechanism for a real world flight
capability. The flight control system is an element of the aircraft control loop which is essential for the
pilot. When evaluating the aspects of an ideal helicopter the first facet to be considered is

Setting: This story takes place on the Tiflin ranch shortly after the turn of the 20th century.
Theme: Disappointment is a theme of The Red Pony one example is when Billy leads Jody to believe
it will not rain but it does and Jody is disappointed in Billy for being incorrect.
Mood: A mood from The Red Pony is overwhelmed because after the death of Nellie or Gabilan Jody
was both sad and mad but his mother and Billy could feel he was overwhelmed.
Tone: The tone was gloomy but in some parts inspiring. Some examples where when Nellie gave birth
her child was healthy but she had died for it to happen.
Irony: One use of irony is symbolism the mountains symbolize barriers and the indents symbolize
rough paths which is ironic because in this story Jody goes through many rough times and rocky
roads.
Imagery: In the grey quiet mornings when the land and the brush and the houses and the trees were
silver gray and black like a photograph negative, he stole toward the barn past the sleeping stones and
the sleeping cypress tree this quote shows imagery as I can picture the field and everything in it.

The House Of Vanity Presents As A Supernatural
THE HOUSE OF VANITY presents as a supernatural, short thriller. The setting of the manor helps
creates an ominous and gloomy tone fitting for this story. The storm also adds to the chilling
ambiance. The story is driven by themes about vanity, destiny, fate, free will, and the idea of evil.
While there are definite strengths in the short, the short would also benefit from building upon those
strengths. As mentioned, the setting is eerie. The idea of a fortuneteller/clairvoyant is a smart story
choice. There s an intriguing connection between Madame and the TS Eliot. The opening scene with
Garrison and the Madame helps create nice suspense and anticipation. Garrison is believable as a
broken man, desperate to change his destiny. The Madame also feels authentic as the fortuneteller.
There s a solid inciting event with the murder and the suicide. The scream in the background nicely
foreshadows Matilda, although another creative choice is to actually show young Matilda walking into
the room. On a small note, the scene transition from the reading to showing Garrison back at home
does feel a bit jarring and rough. Perhaps end with Madame Sosostris slamming down a tarot card,
with the sounds of thunder, and then overlap the sound of the storm to the scene at the Murbank s
home. The story is propelled forward when Matilda seeks help from the Madame. It s another smart
story choice. Her goal is clear: get answers. The stakes are more personal than physical. Matilda doesn

...It matters very little what the facts are; what matters is what people believe. And when it comes to
Cobain, most of what they believe is fabricated nonsense.
Buzz Osborne, Melvins
Documentaries are often assumed to be credible and filled with factual information; they do, after all,
document reality. This is not always the case though. There are many factors that determine the
reliability of documentaries: the editing, the director s agenda, the film s style, confirmation bias, and
choice of interviewees, among other things. Documentaries are a representative medium, after all, and
although they are able to give audiences insight into people and events that they were not able to
experience first hand, there is much ambiguity surrounding the truthfulness of non fiction film. While
it may be possible to inform and persuade people through film, it will never be able to accurately
represent reality. By comparing two documentaries about Nirvana s Kurt Cobain, it will become
apparent that there is still a blurred line between what is fiction and what is not.

The First Path Of Formation Of The Kazakh Diaspora
Repression was blown to frightening enormous proportions. Repressions even reached the traditional
knowledge holders Kazakh shamans baksi , which J. Assmann calls special carriers of cultural
memory [13].
During this period, the trend of migration had been strengthened, and about a million ethnic Kazakhs
was forced to migrate from their historic homeland to neighboring countries. It was the first path of
formation of the Kazakh Diaspora, but there was also a second way: creation of state borders
separated part of the kazakh people and made it difficult to communicate with the main ethnic masses
[14], this process in science is called irredentism [15]. Thus, in the second half of the XIX century
after the establishment of the Russian Chinese border part of Kazakhs who had been wintering in the
former Qing Empire territory was in the allegiance of China. Subsequently, in 1916 after the
suppression of the anti colonial rebellion in 1932 1934. During dispossession, collectivisation and
famine some Kazakh tribes migrated from Kazakhstan to Xinjiang and took Chinese citizenship [16].
The main concentration of the Kazakh migrant fell on Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey,
Mongolia and China.
Due to the special historical and political circumstances, one nation was artificially split into two parts

The Effects Of Sexual Abuse On Women
One of the greatest fears that affect women worldwide is getting sexually attacked. These are
occasions that leave the victims with emotional scars that last a lifetime. Sexual abuse is an act that
underline inhumane and repulsions of torment for women. The horrors are an understatement when
the victims are kids. Most women, who have encountered rape, have had the assault in their younger
ages. Recuperating from such recollections and scars can result into two actions; carrying on with a
productive life or committing suicide. In Morrow and Smith s study that was published in 1995,
depicted a portion of the women who survived the ordeal and managed to adapt with the emotional

Going into further detail, first small bunches of natron encased in linen were stuffed in the body. The
corpse s brain was removed and most likely thrown away. The Ancient Egyptians believed that the
brain was the least important organ in the body. After 40 days passed by, the natron packs were
removed. The dried, withered body was then swabbed clean and caressed with oils, spices, and resin.
They eye sockets were corked with linen and closed. The nostrils were packed with beeswax. Then the
arms were crossed, and the fingernails and toenails were hidden in caps of gold. The embalming cut,
(the cut where the inner organs were taken out) was then stitched together. The mummy was decorated
with jewels, gold, and precious stones like the Eye of Horus. Then the body was deliberately bound
with long, narrow bands of linen. The fingers, toes, and legs were all wrapped individually. Linen
shrouds were arranged between the layers of binding. Every few layers of linen were glued together
with resin. After twenty layers of binding and linen shrouds, the mummy s body returned it it s normal
size. Magic amulets were then inserted in between the mummy s wrappings, along with small,
mummy shaped figures called shabtis, which held farm tools. The wrapped head was shrouded with a

The Secret Life Of The Brain On The Babies Brain Summary
Within the video the Secret Life of the Brain on the babies brain , which is the first episode, focuses
on the formation of the infant brain. Taking an in depth examination on the factors of brain
development: brain organization, the roles of genetics, and environment. With just a matter of a few
weeks after conception brain cells begin to form spontaneously at a rather alarming rate. From birth to
age one an infant s brain is primarily formed through external influences and experiences. When the
brain is developing it is creating neurons, which are specialized cell transmitting nerve impulses, a
nerve cell. Just a small piece of the brain contains thousands of nerve cells within it. Neurons never
reproduce themselves and are very rarely replaced by others. The brain cells form quite rapidly
roughly just four weeks into the process. When the fetus is growing the neurons make their way out of
the neutral cube to build the brain layer upon layer. The brain builds connections very rapidly nearly a
couple million every second and it begins to wire itself by following a genetic blue print. Neurons
travel in waves, millions each day, which scientists like to call migration. After twenty four weeks the
vital organs of the body are formed, for example, the heart begins to beat on ... Show more content on

our hearts or in others it is rare to find a place lacking in it. As such, it is not hard to presume that love
too, is a common occurrence in prose. For many, love may consume their entire being: their thoughts,
their actions and their time. For them it is a duty an obligation an office that must be fulfilled. Such is
the case in Robert Hayden s poem Those Winter Sundays, Hayden uses the father and the speaker as a
tangible embodiment of how unrequited and harsh love can be. Hayden tells us more in what he doesn
t say then what he says or as Johnson says, for everything the poem says, there is something else that
remains unspoken (Johnson). This premise is true throughout all the poem and becomes quite apparent
if the agent s (the father s) actions are put under scrutiny. Unfortunately, it can be hard to determine
the significance behind the actions without context. For example, Sunday too my father got up early,
with just a glancing look it seems to be a kind action, but nothing showing true devotion and love
(Hayden). Despite this, one must recognize that the Hayden is implying that the father got up on early
on other days as well as Sunday. To make this act even more impressionable Landau explains that,
Sunday has been regarded as a day of rest, but the speaker s father, trapped in his role as father, is not
able to observe this convention (Landau). To

Perhaps you think of New Zealand and you think about the culture of the Maori s. Or... maybe you
think about somebody extremely violent, dangerous, lazy, big, dumb. Maybe you think about them
doing drugs, smoking and drinking. These negative words that I have just said have been made into
Maori stereotypes over the years. The jokes I started this presentation with show a few of these Maori
stereotypes. I will be exploring these stereotypes and the representations of the Maori s through
different texts.
Many years ago, the Maori s were seen as brave warriors. Through films, advertisements, cartoons,
jokes, books and even stamps, the Maori s have been made to be viewed in a negative light. The texts
that I will be exploring include the film Once Were Warriors , the Legend Drunk Driving ad and also a
cartoon.
In society and the media, the Maori s are rarely given good impressions. Also, what is shown
regarding the Maori s is actually quite limited. However, when we do see them, we see them shown in
a negative way, and, therefore, we feel obliged to believe that the negative stereotypes portrayed are
all that the Maori s are.
My first text that I will be showing you, is a great representation of this. Once Were Warriors is a film
that was made in New Zealand in 1994. It is about the Maori life and it shows this by following the
troubled life of the Heke family. The message of the film is to show viewers how the definition of a
warrior has

Contributions Of John Winthrop
John Winthrop plays a huge part in American history. He was a great leader and the founder of if not
the most, one of the historical cities in the land we call home. His efforts established to creating the
great city shall never be forgotten. Many may argue that Columbus discovery of America was the
most important event that occurs in Chapter 2, I would argue that John Winthrop s desire to create a
City on a Hill, and governing a successful colony was critical to the founding of the United States.
The mentality John Winthrop possessed and key events he was a part of has molded America into
what it is today.
John Winthrop was known to be a father figure amongst the colonists. Winthrop was a part of the
Puritan religious group. The Puritans were people looking to purify the Church of England under the
reign of King Henry the VIII. Winthrop in 1629 led the Puritans on a verge to America to create a City
on a Hill . The Massachusetts Bay Company relocated their headquarters to America and named where
they settled New England. The Massachusetts Bay Company also funds the Puritans journey to
America. The colony is known to be the second to establish in America. A year after settling 1630,
John Winthrop establishes a port named Massachusetts Bay for their new city, Boston. The city of
Boston will become the first major city in America. For his role and leadership in creating a City on a
Hill , he was known to be a father figure amongst the colonists. I believe that

Poe Hawthorne
Comparison/ Contrast of Poe/ Hawthorne Poe and Hawthorne are the most significant American
writers of 19th century. They have their own way of relating to their audiences that s varied and
similar at the same time. Poe s writing involves the reader emotionally. Hawthorne on the other hand
considers author s imagination important and paints a picture based on it. These innovative thoughts
and experimentations in language have forever changed what we appreciate in writing. Poe and
Hawthorne used various techniques in their writing including symbolism, allegory, suspense,
characterization and great use of setting to make it very real to the reader. Both gothic writers set a
different mood for the reader in their writings. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hooper s state of mind. These authors uses of language skills show not only their excellent command
of the English language but also their great desire to find the perfect word to fit their story and their
style of writing.
The greatest underlying difference in Poe and Hawthorne s stories are their categorized styles.
Hawthorne is an author drawn to writings of romance, which holds broad guidelines. He uses his
unexplained happenings as part of this genre. Hawthorne uses his characters to portray his belief that
the truth of life comes from the human heart. Hawthorne s romantic literature likes to use the
extraordinary. The importance of nature plays a strong role when the secrecy and evil of the woods are
described and gossiped about in The Scarlet Letter. All of these aspects portray stories built on the
romance theory, which Hawthorne helped to develop.
Poe s writing style was much like that of Hawthorne s, but drew from the darker side of romance
creations. This gothic mood believed in the dark truths of the human heart, which are the ends and
motivations for many of his stories. Human corruption and violence ends in murder in The Black Cat .
Gothic writings move more into the supernatural side, which lets observer of the see a living person in
the picture at his first, sleepy glance.
Poe and Hawthorne both use all aspects of

Papers On Child Sexual Abuse
Child sexual abuse is a subject that has received much attention in recent years and has caused some
concern s in our society. Sexual abuse is when one person dominates and exploits another person by
the means of suggestion or sexual activity. This form of abuse continues to pose serious and pervasive
mental health complications to the victim and their family. There is increasing documentation that a
child and adolescent victims of sexual abuse and their non offending parents and siblings are in need
of mental health services (Putnam, 2003). Majority of sexual abuse occurs during childhood; however,
incest is the most common form of sexual abuse. The counselor must understand that child sexual
abuse goes beyond touching and must be aware there is many forms of sexual abuse to a child. The
perpetrator can exploit a child by assaulting them through the internet, introducing a child to
pornography, or convince the child to take inappropriate pictures. The severity of the sexual act may
cause more serious impact, several other factors may influence the degree of damage to the survivor s
experiences. Factors may include the perspective of the individual, the individual s internal resources,
and the individual s level of support (Ratican, 1992). After the abuse has occurred the families face
multiple challenges like change of residence, loss of income, loss of caregiver and no support from the
community. Once those challenges arise these challenges can be accompanied

The Somalian Refugee Crisis Essay
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees announced, Somalia s drought and refugee
crisis is the most severe humanitarian emergency in the world, (UNHCR, 2011). Although estimates
vary, about 800,000 people have left Somalia seeking asylum. Most now reside in refugee camps in
bordering Kenya and Ethiopia. Many trek for days with little or food to seek safety and assistance in
refugee camps only to find conditions that are no better. Host nations and humanitarian organizations
cannot support the vast number of refugees that have already crossed the border and thousands more
arrive every day. Maintenance of the current course of action is not the answer. Besides conjuring
more international assistance and humanitarian aid, it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By early summer (1992), at least 300,000 civilians had already died and in July (2009) the
International Committee of the Red Cross re iterated its six month old estimates that 95 percent of the
population of Somalia was malnourished and 70 percent in imminent danger of death by starvation,
(Jon Western, 1999). Between 1992 and 1995 a UN Peacekeeping force and a small American lead
coalition attempted to stabilize the country. After limited success, both eventually pulled out. In the
decade that followed fighting between warlords, political groups, and neighboring countries have
contributed to numerous failed attempts to establish a functioning government. The country is
considered a failed state.
To compound the issues, in the last two years limited rain fall has caused the worst drought in over 60
years. The already overwrought food situation exponentially worsted as crops and livestock die due to
water shortages. As a result the numbers of refugees have recently increased dramatically, with over
330,000 Somalis seeking refuge since January of 2011, (UNHCR, 2011).
For the Somali people, options are very limited. Warlords have actually banned humanitarian efforts in
some areas. When left with little choice they abandon their homes and make for the shelter of a
neighboring country. Tens of thousands of families travel by foot carrying their children sometimes for
more than a week. Most times with

Comparing The Underground Man And The Death Of Ivan Ilych
Understanding the Meaning of Life The underground man from Notes from underground by Fyodor
Dostoevsky and Ivan Ilynch from The Death of Ivan Ilych by Leo Tolstoy share a variety of attributes
such as the life. Tolstoy s novella uses a structural path to elaborate the transformation of Ivan from a
cold and self righteous person to an intricately kind and confident individual at the end. On the other
hand, Dostoevsky exhaustively applies the plot, tone, and structure to establish the personality of the
underground man. The underground man and Ivan Ilych are both seen to seek the meaning of life. The
underground man s first encounter with Liza is in a dirty room where they have slept. He teaches Liza
to cherish her family even if he doesn t have one. This makes readers feel sympathetic to the
underground man. Ivan s illness opens a door of fear in his heart when he looks back at his life and
sees how rude and selfish he was. He tries to resist the pending demise by wishing and hoping for a
better outcome. In Leo Tolstoy s book, death is spoken as a theoretical concept as well as an applied
occurrence for the main character. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He lives a model life of his friends where he married a country girl and had two kids. The contrast
arises from the personal attributes related to each person. The underground man continues to envy the
normal man and states that he is lying. He does not believe anything that he has written. He wonders
that the readers are gullible as to imagine that he will publish the notes and let them read. He keeps
asking why he addresses the readers if he plans to not let them read. The underground man declares
the notes are from whatever comes to mind and the memories he has. He explains that he writes notes
because he wants to get rid of his hundreds of

Media Coverage Of Afric The True Nature Of The Culture And...
Media coverage of Africa has exponentially increased in recent times, but the information is rarely
completely accurate and objective. Initiatives to fund global health projects has resulted in the creation
of genius advertising campaigns that appeal to the emotions and humanity of privileged citizens in
first world countries. This campaign has also led to grave misconceptions about the true nature of the
culture and lifestyle that Africans live. The first misconception being that every person on the whole
continent has the same religious beliefs, socioeconomic status, and environmental surroundings. A
satirical article named How to Write about Africa draws attention to the exaggerated usage of the wild
landscape, naked mothers, starving children, and white heroes who come in and save all of the dying
babies in Africa (Wainaina, 1992). Anthropologists refer to this idea of portraying Africa in a certain
light in media to elicit a desired public reaction as a single story. A majority of media articles in
general only present a single story to appeal to their target audience, but articles about Africa in
particular are notorious for painting the picture of a poverty stricken continent that needs to be saved
and few people have enough knowledge about Africa to contest the media they see everyday. A recent
articled named, Mothers and babies at risk in Apostolic church birth camps, where modern healthcare
seen as heathen is an example of a piece of media that tells a

The Essential Gandhi By Mahatma Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi once said, Nonviolence is not a garment to be put on and off at will. Its seat is in the
heart, and it must be an inseparable part of our being . The book The Essential Gandhi expresses
Gandhi s views on issues like untouchability, religion, nationality, his movements like civil
disobedience are deeply shown in this book. Readers can learn about Gandhi s childhood, his early
married life, his realization and transition in South Africa, and his ways of approach towards attaining
Independence in India. The book did a fantastic job in showing the Gandhi s principles like non
violence with exemplary contexts. The researcher understood the specific theme chosen and was a bit
au fait with the topic, because she had a keen interest in Gandhi and all his work. In an age where
violence is on the increase Gandhi s message of non violence is needed. It is the researchers hope that
this IA will reach a wide cross section of people and will effect a change. Gandhi s views on issues
like untouchability are deeply dealt with. Never anywhere Gandhi s views about untouchability were
effectively heard. But, in this book they were dealt in detail with lots of arguments and convincing
proofs of why untouchability is sin. Even his co living with the untouchables and the resistance he
faced for that is discussed. His views on religion, nationality, his movements like civil disobedience,
are also clearly shown. Even his opinions on many religions were discussed in deep; a striking

  • 2. Human Activity and Energy Sources Earth s resources, for instance water, productive farming land and energy, outlines the basic foundations of our continued existence on earth. However, with the continued human activities, for example logging and charcoal burning, these resources are quickly being depleted. Human inhabitation and increased consumption of the natural resources is resulting in untold destruction. The climate change being experienced globally, the rapidly depleting freshwater catchments, the dwindling forest cover, the ever reducing fish stash in our seas and oceans and farmland dereliction are some of the effects resulting from human occupation and activities. Poaching, another human activity, is resulting in the extinction of certain animal species thus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sustainability is a model that has been developed to ensure that human life is not threatened by continuing depletion of the natural resources. This model has also been adopted in order to ensure that the ecosystem is protected. Sustainability is being promoted in order to ensure that human beings and the environment coexist within certain set restrictions so as to ensure that the ecosystem continues to support life. In addition, this model ensures that humans understand the relationship which manages the balance between their activities on the ecosystem. Through sustainability, human beings will be able to utilize the available natural resources sparingly with the view that future generations are depending on it too (Maria and Luciana 3). Some of the renewable sources of energy are solar, hydropower, biomass and wind. The use of these energy sources ensures that the ecosystem remain self serving and thus able to sustain human life (Diane and Shubhayu 12). The uptake and use of solar energy is yet to be fully utilized because in America, the percentage of people using this energy is minimal. In the United States, solar energy represents almost a half of one percent of the total electricity use, a number that is insignificant (Diane and Shubhayu 12). The human population is yet to realize that solar energy can be used extensively in both heating and lighting. Moreover, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though there are some flaws in certain plot points, it s still a great book. The sense of adventure and the fact that the main character is a young adult will apply to the target audience. Just thinking about the book as a whole makes me happy that I read the book. This book is definitely for the geeky, 80 s loving, gamers out there that like to read. • 4. The Human Condition In Art The human condition is defined as: the characteristics, key events, and situations which compose the essentials of human existence, such as birth, growth, emotionality, aspirations, conflict, and mortality. The diversity of the human condition can be thought of as the very broad topic which has been and continues to be pondered and analyzed from many perspectives, including those of religion, philosophy, history, art, literature, anthropology, psychology, and biology, (Human Condition). For the first piece of artwork that I am going to discuss that exemplify the aspect of human condition would be Noli Me Tangere by Titian. In this piece of art, the artists depicts Mary Magdalene kneeling before the newly risen Jesus. This is an example of human condition because in the artwork, Mary is emotional. Mary has just seen someone who dies three days earlier and is now risen and back. The artists uses the human condition in many ways besides just emotionally. The artists uses the form of conflict in the painting. In the human condition, conflict is one of the characteristics and the artists focuses on that because you can see Mary kneeling and tugging at the robe of Jesus while he has a face of concern because he knows what he is to do and that he is to keep going to not only speak to Mary but to the other disciples. Another human condition example in the art work is mortality. Jesus was crucified three days before his resurrection and is now risen. There are not many cases ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Judicial Selection And Appointment For Securing An... Discuss the importance of the judicial selection and appointment in securing an independent judiciary. (50 marks) Judicial independence is the concept that the judiciary needs to be kept away from the other branches of government. That is, courts should not be subject to improper influence from the other branches of government. Judicial independence is very important in a democracy as the public need to have confidence that their cases will be decided fairly and in accordance with the law. Judicial selection and appointment is important in securing an independent judiciary as seen by the politicisation of the judiciary. In the UK and US the system of electing Justices is highly politicised. In the US it is ultimately up to the President to choose a Justice who fits his political ideology and philosophy. There is a clear divide between Justices nominated by Republican Presidents (Scalia, Thomas, Roberts, and Alito) and those nominated by Democrats President (Ginsburg, Breyer, Sotomayor, and Kagan). Presidents seek to nominate Justices who share similar political views. Republicans tend to nominate strict constructionists who favour a more narrow reading of the Constitution and Democrats tend to appoint loose constructionists who believe in a broad interpretation of the Constitution. Elena Kagen received only a single Republican vote and Sonia Sotomayor did not receive any. It is unlikely that the Republicans considered them to be underqualified, and more likely that they ... • 6. Book Of Job Religion The Book of Job, attempts to address the question: why do bad things happen to good people? This story of pious pessimism revolves around Job, a righteous man who is tested as the result of a wager between God and Satan, in which everything is taken from him. Satan questions whether, if all of Job s riches and children are taken away from him, will he turn upon his Creator. As one known to be a righteous man and God s faithful servant, Job initially proclaims his unwavering faith in his God, regardless of his circumstances. Even though Job is stripped of everything he holds dear, he nonetheless holds firm to his faith throughout the ordeals that takes place, confirming his faithful nature and revealing him to be a worthy follower of God. Despite being tested, Job holds fast to his integrity. The Job tradition, as exemplified in the folk tradition found in chapters 1 2, serves as a model of accepting both the good and bad times in our lives, while remaining faithful to God even though things may not be in line with our desires. From this perspective, every adverse occurrence is a test of one s loyalty to God and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is an implicit message conveyed through this narrative: However, when things take a sudden turn for the worse, it is during such difficult and perplexing times that one s faith in God is needed most. The Satan, while testing Job, believed that Job would act disloyally to God, as he thought Job only served God because it was to his benefit. The whole point of the folk tradition is to indicate ... While it does require numbers to calculate accurate hypothesis, quantitative research can be used to eventually create hard factual data. Within my current field of study, quantitative research methods are being used very frequently. I am studying in both business administration and human resource management and will identify how both fields could benefit from this research method below. Additionally, the pitfalls or negatives will be analyzed to ensure that there is a clear understanding of how best to use this method of research to the absolute maximum. First, let us examine how the world of business uses quantitative research methods on a daily basis. In the business world, numbers generate all outlooks via positive or negative. For instance, when a company is analyzing a new market, they will likely run some quantitative research to ensure there are positive numbers to generate a profit. This could be numbers for population, spending trends or even stock analysis. All of these examples would be identified through case studies. However, quantitative research can also be used to track data within the company such as production, manpower hours, quality of work and mishaps. This allows the management staff to keep operations running smoothly and also monitor areas that could benefit from improved productivity. This method could also be used to assist in determining awards, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A true friend customer is loyal as well as profitable to the company and CGC s true friend customers have been fading over the last several years and they are turning into butterflies or barnacles. CGC is a top golf club developer but they are most well known for their driver the Big Bertha series. If a golfer wants the best of each different type of club, they might only buy a CGC driver or a putter. If a customer bought just a select few of clubs from CGC they would be considered a butterfly to the company. If CGC would offer discounts on entire packages of clubs and maybe even add free apparel, this may secure true friend relationships with customers like they had when the company was first established. Another problem has occurred for CGC and that has to deal with the rapid development of new clubs on the market. Producing new clubs at such a fast pace may leave customers feeling uncertain of their clubs or other golf equipment that they have just purchased recently from CGC. Business Portfolio Analysis CGC still to this day remains a powerful and successful player in the golf industry even though their sales have dropped 17% since 1998. • 12. Do Not Assume Who I Am By My Appearance Essay Do Not Assume Who I Am By My Appearance Nowadays, stereotypes seem to be the way we justify and categorize society. It can also be said that stereotypes are one way in which we define the world in order to see it. Because, if the world isn t defined, then how can we as people, grasp the concept of it? How do we justify our action, and those of others? People often, prejudge others or objects by grouping them into categories or styles they are familiar with, and then treat them by their experiences or just follow what other people usually do, without questioning their actions and motives. That causes miscommunication, argument or losing opportunities to broaden the life experience. Stereotypes are usually formed based on an individual s appearance, race, and gender that would put labels on people. The appearance of a person in general is one of the most important causes of stereotypes. People usually tend to stereotype a person from what they see and think. In Brent Staples Just Walk On By: A Black Man Ponders His Power to Alter Public Space, he experienced a certain stereotype from a white woman because of his appearance. He explained, To her, the youngish black man a broad six feet two inches with a bread and billowing hair, both hands shoved into the pockets of a bulky military jacket seemed menacing close (Staples 394). Emergency Medicine Personal Statement Throughout the majority of my life, I had dreams of becoming an attorney and did not consider medicine as a profession until much later in my academic career. I had previously pictured myself pursuing a career in intellectual property rights and hoped to become a patent attorney, given my interest in the scientific field. My interest in patent law led me to take science courses that piqued my curiosity. I soon found myself involved in undergraduate laboratory research, focused on discovering new drugs to treat chronic pain syndromes while preventing drug tolerance and limiting the side effects of conventionally used narcotic pain medications. During my last year of college, I was accepted into law school, however I ultimately did not feel that I was truly pursuing my passion and decided to withdraw my acceptance. I then found myself with a college degree and an unclear direction in life, unsure of what new career I wanted to pursue. The first one that was written by Eusebius in 337 AD states that Constantine is a victorious, pious emperor who helps others and orders the construction of sacred places to honor Christ. The second account was written in 520 AD by Zosimus and it states that Constantine is an impious, arrogant and selfish emperor who is responsible of the Roman Empire s collapse. Eusebius, a bishop, wrote a eulogy to honor Constantine upon his death in 337 AD. He pays his respect to Constantine by stating all, indeed, with one voice and one mouth, declared that Constantine had appeared by the grace of God as a general blessing to mankind. In this statement, Eusebius clearly emphasizes the importance that Constantine has in the Romans life, and how they all agree that in fact he is a good influence for the Romans. He also considers him as the victorious, the pious, the common benefactor who helps people and worships God. Others characteristics about Constantine s personality are depicted by Eusebius such as Constantine s ambition and his goal oriented mind. He s goal oriented personality is depicted when the author states, (...) at the same time granting ample supplies of money, and commanding that the house of prayer worthy of the worship of God should be erected near the Saviour s tomb on a scale of rich and royal greatness. The Equal Rights Amendment was, introduced through the twenties, thirties, forties, fifties, and sixties without success (Schneir, 369). Various organizations such as the National Woman s Party (those who proposed it), National Organization for Women, the Women s Department of the United Auto Workers, and many other feminists worked most if not all of their lives to pass this specific amendment. In the early 1970 s, the House approved the amendment by a large ratio of 354 to 23. Additionally, in 1972, the Senate also passed the amendment by another shocking ratio of 84 to 8. Unfortunately, the amendment did not pass by its deadline of June 30th, 1982 by only thirty five states approving it for ratification by at least thirty eight states (Schneir, 370). There were various reasons why the amendment did not pass, and Miriam Schneir discussed several of these in the section Equal Rights Amendment in the book Feminism in Our Time. The setting of the manor helps creates an ominous and gloomy tone fitting for this story. The storm also adds to the chilling ambiance. The story is driven by themes about vanity, destiny, fate, free will, and the idea of evil. While there are definite strengths in the short, the short would also benefit from building upon those strengths. As mentioned, the setting is eerie. The idea of a fortuneteller/clairvoyant is a smart story choice. There s an intriguing connection between Madame and the TS Eliot. The opening scene with Garrison and the Madame helps create nice suspense and anticipation. Garrison is believable as a broken man, desperate to change his destiny. The Madame also feels authentic as the fortuneteller. There s a solid inciting event with the murder and the suicide. The scream in the background nicely foreshadows Matilda, although another creative choice is to actually show young Matilda walking into the room. Perhaps end with Madame Sosostris slamming down a tarot card, with the sounds of thunder, and then overlap the sound of the storm to the scene at the Murbank s home. The corpse s brain was removed and most likely thrown away. The Ancient Egyptians believed that the brain was the least important organ in the body. After 40 days passed by, the natron packs were removed. The dried, withered body was then swabbed clean and caressed with oils, spices, and resin. They eye sockets were corked with linen and closed. The nostrils were packed with beeswax. Then the arms were crossed, and the fingernails and toenails were hidden in caps of gold. The embalming cut, (the cut where the inner organs were taken out) was then stitched together. The mummy was decorated with jewels, gold, and precious stones like the Eye of Horus. Then the body was deliberately bound with long, narrow bands of linen. The fingers, toes, and legs were all wrapped individually. Linen shrouds were arranged between the layers of binding. Every few layers of linen were glued together with resin. After twenty layers of binding and linen shrouds, the mummy s body returned it it s normal size. The Secret Life Of The Brain On The Babies Brain Summary Within the video the Secret Life of the Brain on the babies brain , which is the first episode, focuses on the formation of the infant brain. Taking an in depth examination on the factors of brain development: brain organization, the roles of genetics, and environment. With just a matter of a few weeks after conception brain cells begin to form spontaneously at a rather alarming rate. From birth to age one an infant s brain is primarily formed through external influences and experiences. When the brain is developing it is creating neurons, which are specialized cell transmitting nerve impulses, a nerve cell. Just a small piece of the brain contains thousands of nerve cells within it. Neurons never reproduce themselves and are very rarely replaced by others. The brain cells form quite rapidly roughly just four weeks into the process. When the fetus is growing the neurons make their way out of the neutral cube to build the brain layer upon layer. The brain builds connections very rapidly nearly a couple million every second and it begins to wire itself by following a genetic blue print. Neurons travel in waves, millions each day, which scientists like to call migration. After twenty four weeks the vital organs of the body are formed, for example, the heart begins to beat on ... The working memory scale stands out as a scale that is particularly sensitive to ADHD children. That being said there appears to be no significant associations between the Behavioral Regulation Index or the Metacognition Index and youth s scores on measures of inhibition, performance monitoring, and working memory. • 42. The Significance Of Love In Those Winter Sundays, By... Love is a powerful motivator in the world. While love isn t tangible, it is all around us in the world. In our hearts or in others it is rare to find a place lacking in it. As such, it is not hard to presume that love too, is a common occurrence in prose. For many, love may consume their entire being: their thoughts, their actions and their time. For them it is a duty an obligation an office that must be fulfilled. Such is the case in Robert Hayden s poem Those Winter Sundays, Hayden uses the father and the speaker as a tangible embodiment of how unrequited and harsh love can be. Hayden tells us more in what he doesn t say then what he says or as Johnson says, for everything the poem says, there is something else that remains unspoken (Johnson). This premise is true throughout all the poem and becomes quite apparent if the agent s (the father s) actions are put under scrutiny. Unfortunately, it can be hard to determine the significance behind the actions without context. For example, Sunday too my father got up early, with just a glancing look it seems to be a kind action, but nothing showing true devotion and love (Hayden). Despite this, one must recognize that the Hayden is implying that the father got up on early on other days as well as Sunday. To make this act even more impressionable Landau explains that, Sunday has been regarded as a day of rest, but the speaker s father, trapped in his role as father, is not able to observe this convention (Landau). These negative words that I have just said have been made into Maori stereotypes over the years. The jokes I started this presentation with show a few of these Maori stereotypes. I will be exploring these stereotypes and the representations of the Maori s through different texts. Many years ago, the Maori s were seen as brave warriors. Through films, advertisements, cartoons, jokes, books and even stamps, the Maori s have been made to be viewed in a negative light. The texts that I will be exploring include the film Once Were Warriors , the Legend Drunk Driving ad and also a cartoon. In society and the media, the Maori s are rarely given good impressions. Also, what is shown regarding the Maori s is actually quite limited. However, when we do see them, we see them shown in a negative way, and, therefore, we feel obliged to believe that the negative stereotypes portrayed are all that the Maori s are. My first text that I will be showing you, is a great representation of this. Once Were Warriors is a film that was made in New Zealand in 1994. It is about the Maori life and it shows this by following the

Comparing The Underground Man And The Death Of Ivan Ilych Understanding the Meaning of Life The underground man from Notes from underground by Fyodor Dostoevsky and Ivan Ilynch from The Death of Ivan Ilych by Leo Tolstoy share a variety of attributes such as the life. Tolstoy s novella uses a structural path to elaborate the transformation of Ivan from a cold and self righteous person to an intricately kind and confident individual at the end. On the other hand, Dostoevsky exhaustively applies the plot, tone, and structure to establish the personality of the underground man. The underground man and Ivan Ilych are both seen to seek the meaning of life. The underground man s first encounter with Liza is in a dirty room where they have slept. He teaches Liza to cherish her family even if he doesn t have one. This makes readers feel sympathetic to the underground man. Ivan s illness opens a door of fear in his heart when he looks back at his life and sees how rude and selfish he was. He tries to resist the pending demise by wishing and hoping for a better outcome. • 51. Media Coverage Of Afric The True Nature Of The Culture And... Media coverage of Africa has exponentially increased in recent times, but the information is rarely completely accurate and objective. Initiatives to fund global health projects has resulted in the creation of genius advertising campaigns that appeal to the emotions and humanity of privileged citizens in first world countries. This campaign has also led to grave misconceptions about the true nature of the culture and lifestyle that Africans live. The first misconception being that every person on the whole continent has the same religious beliefs, socioeconomic status, and environmental surroundings. A satirical article named How to Write about Africa draws attention to the exaggerated usage of the wild landscape, naked mothers, starving children, and white heroes who come in and save all of the dying babies in Africa (Wainaina, 1992). Anthropologists refer to this idea of portraying Africa in a certain light in media to elicit a desired public reaction as a single story. A majority of media articles in general only present a single story to appeal to their target audience, but articles about Africa in particular are notorious for painting the picture of a poverty stricken continent that needs to be saved and few people have enough knowledge about Africa to contest the media they see everyday.
