Brendan Behan’s The Quare Fellow and Samuel Beckett Essay
Brendan Behan s The Quare Fellow and Samuel Beckett Existential works are difficult to describe
because the definition of existentialism covers a wide range of ideas and influences almost to the point
of ambiguity. An easy, if not basic, approach to existentialism is to view it as a culmination of attitudes
from the oppressed people of industrialization, writers and philosophers during the modern literary
period, and people who were personally involved as civilians, soldiers, or rebels during WWII and
witnessed the worst aspects of life and war. These attitudes combined the aspects of loss of identity
and autonomy, the uselessness of pain, a sense of alienation, and the meaninglessness of a harsh life
where death is the only way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brendan Behan s play, The Quare Fellow, contains all the characteristics of an existential work
through the depiction the realistic portrayal of an Irish prison. Behan wastes no time in expressing his
disdain for the public s blind acceptance of the present state and motives of the modern world. The
setting of the play, an Irish prison, is a microcosm for the modern, capitalistic society. In this context,
the inmates represent ordinary citizens of society and the warders, respectively, represent those who
maintain power and order governments and corporations. Behan s presented imagery is that of an
inescapable world where no person is actually free. There are always powers that people must follow
and respect in order to survive in such a society. The loss of autonomy and complete freedom is
always the result, thus perpetuating the stratification of power and the continued sacrifice of the
masses; however, the delusion of freedom is always present. Although Mickser is released from the
prison, there seems to be little hope in his future as he ll be back, inevitably, in prison (Behan 309).
Mickser is a physically free man, but with the world working against him, he will return to the place
where every decision is

Argumentative Essay On Orca Captivity
Zoological parks, aquariums, and theme parks featuring cetaceans have proven to be hotspots for a
wide range of strongly held opinions regarding mammalian ethics and environmental education.
Although some animal rights activists and concerned citizens question the practice keeping of any
wild animal in captivity, orca whales (Orcinus orca) have become a species of particular contention in
recent years. The questionable history of orca capture, beginning with the sad story of Moby Doll and
the Penn Cove incident, combined with the recent deaths of SeaWorld trainers and the inflammatory
Blackfish documentary, have brought the issue to a head. Marine parks and some scientists agree that
while the wild is the optimal environment for orcas, holding some in captivity is an invaluable asset
for conservation, environmental education, and research. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the first orcas that were captured were already weak and sickly; however, others, such as
Moby Doll and the orcas captured in Penn Cove, were violently seized from the wild (Center for
Whale Research, n.d.). Robeck,
Willis, Scarpuzzi, and O Brien (2015) report that between 1965 and 1985, 18 orcas were taken from
the wild and placed in the care of Sea World. By 1985, all but 8 of these whales had passed away
(Robeck et al., 2015). One scientific survey conducted during this time frame sought to compile the
reports of the known causes of death for numerous captured individuals. Ridgway (1979) determined
that several mortalities were due to pre existing conditions or injuries sustained prior to the capture of
the whales. However, he also acknowledged that numerous deaths were the direct result of either
illnesses obtained during capture or the inability of several aquariums to properly care for the animals

Analysis Of Viola Desmond s One Woman s Resistance ...
One Woman s Resistance, Viola Desmond s Challenge to Racial Segregation is a powerful story of
black women stood up to discrimination and racial equality. The exhibit is housed in the Canadian
Journey on the main floor on the Canadian museum, for Human Rights. It is placed beside the
Residential School and Uncertain Harvest exhibits.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on July 6, 1914 Viola Desmond was a successful black hair salon owner,
On November 8, 1946 while travelling for to Sydney for a business meeting, Viola experienced car
trouble; the repair of which would take a few hours. She decided to pass time by seeing a film at the
Roseland Theatre. At the ticket stand, Viola requested a seat on the main floor but the ticket was for a
balcony seat instead, When she tried to sit in the main floor she was accosted by the employee to
move and when refused, Viola was thrown into jail. In the exhibition there was a video playing that
discusses racial discrimination and how viola Desmond was treated like she was not a real person. It
suggests that her story has changed history, fearless in the face of racism and injustice her story tries to
break barriers between black people and white people.
There are images and video in the exhibit of viola Desmond sitting in the theatre and jail. Gender and
race are represented in the exhibit as she faces discrimination and is treated like she is not a person.

The advantages of using the microcontroller is the reduction of the cost and also the use of extra
hardware such as the use of timer RAM and ROM can be avoided. This technology is very fast so
controlling of multiple parameters is possible; also the parameters are field programmable by the user.
The electrical engineering and its applications are the oldest streams of Engineering. Though these
systems are quite reliable and cheaper, it has certain disadvantages. The electro mechanical protection
relays are too bulky and needs regular maintenance. The multifunctional is out of question. Recently,
the technical revolution made embedded technology cheaper, so that it can be applied to all the fields.
2. Objective of the project The Automatic Power factor Correction device is a very useful device for
improving efficient transmission of active power. If the consumer connect inductive load, then the
power factor lags, when the power factor goes below 0.97(lag) then the Electric supply company

Arnold Schwarzenegger Controversy
The picture I have posted is of Arnold Schwarzenegger. My question to you is, would you elect this
guy as president? Arnold Schwarzenegger began his career as a body builder and later became a
famous actor, staring in many famous movies and roles. In 2003 he ran for governor of California and
won. However, his career and home life have been shadowed by many controversies. One such
controversy is that Schwarzenegger has admitted to steroid use during his bodybuilding career. He
stated steroids were helpful to me in maintaining muscle size while on a strict diet in preparation for a
contest. I did not use them for muscle growth, but rather for muscle maintenance when cutting up .

Using The Methods Of Categorization And Compartmentalization
Check One Using the methods of categorization and compartmentalization in order to more easily
comprehend difficult subjects is natural, yet when the objects subjected to forced categorical
placement are human beings, how can this method still be justified? When taking a standardized test,
filling out legal paperwork, or taking a census, we are presented with a question that, in some cases,
might be more difficult than all of the following questions on an exam. Staring up from the page are
the words Ethnicity: (Choose One) followed by a series of boxes next to words such as White , Black ,
Asian , etc. When did the colors White and Black , a singular phenotypic characteristic, come to
define an entire race? This perception of color stems from colonial times when white Euro colonizers
imposed their self righteous attitudes of white supremacy on their newly acquired lands. These ideals
involved in the creation of the binaries of black and white, which originate in the slave and master
relationship established in the exploitation of African (black) slaves by European colonizers and
plantation owners (white). In L. Kaifa Roland s Cuban Color in Tourism and La Lucha: An
Ethnography of Racial Meanings and Junot Diaz s How to Date a Brown Girl, Black Girl, White Girl,

The Identity of an American Puerto Rican Essay
The Identity of an American Puerto Rican Am I American or Puerto Rican , a question that wanders
along the halls of my mind all the time? Many Puerto Ricans might not agree, but I feel that I am,
American , Puerto Rican American that is. As a child my own parents deprived me of my culture and
true identity. They spoke to me in a language that many Puerto Ricans refused or detested to learn,
English. The only thing I can actually say that I know about Puerto Rican heritage is the comida we
shared during family gatherings. In Spanish the words are habichuelas con arroz; in English, rice and
beans; and in any language they translate into the food staples of island life (p. 59, Fernandez). I went

Though my readings can contradict such happy memories, I will soon talk about the political,
economic, social relations and identity issues that Puerto Ricans had to encounter after the Spanish
American War and during the United States invasion and how it affected Puerto Ricans then and now.
The political status, who cares about politics and its status? Well many Puerto Ricans did when the
United States invaded it. There were so many issues about the island wanting to be self governed.
According to Fernandez, others wanted statehood, while still others adamantly opposed the inclusion
of the statehood ideal in any Union platform; to paraphrase one protester, the United States was able to
deny Puerto Rico both statehood and self government. That was its right. But it was not able to deny
the island its independence because that was a right of the Puerto Rican people (p. 43). Still, until
present day the island is indecisive about becoming a state or staying a commonwealth or even being
independent. After the Spanish American War Puerto Ricans had more of a decision to make about
what they wanted to do with themselves. They weren t under Spanish rule anymore, but inherited the
American Government to help with certain affairs, though, cries for help were sometimes ignored. For
example, on August 12, 1907, Jose De Diego stopped at Oyster Bay to once again plead for more self
government . When the petition was duly filed and, like

Texas Elections
Essay #3
In Texas elections serve an important and vital role in how the state functions. They are the people s
way of expressing their right to democracy. It is through these elections that we are able select public
officials who will represent our state and work towards making it better. They also allow voters to vote
on potential changes to the Texas Constitution. Something that can help to improve the policies that
we currently have in our state (Champagne and Harpham 135).
One type of election in Texas is the primary election. This election uses a ballot voting system and
allows for the people to select who they want their party s nominee to be for the general election

These particular groups work to protect the interest of professionals, such as teachers, accountants,
and doctors. An example is the Texas Medical Association, which is a professional group representing
the interest of doctors within the Texas government (Champagne and Harpham 166). In the case of
teachers, professional interests groups work to protect their ...job security, qualifications of teachers,
health insurance, pensions, salaries, and other matters... (Champagne and Harpham 166). A second
type of interest group is those that aim to spread awareness of civil rights. In many cases these groups
are working to protect and ensure the rights of minority groups. Some of these groups are well known
organizations such as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People or the NAACP
which works for the civil rights of African Americans. Other civil rights interest groups include the
League of United Latin American Citizens and the Mexican American Legal Defense Fund. Both of
which work towards protecting and improving the lives of Latin and Mexican Americans (Champagne
and Harpham 166). Organizations like these have made some significant progress over the years with
informing and changing the minds of the public. As well as influencing policy makers of Texas

The Invention Of The Electron Microscope By Ernst Ruska...
In the scientific community, there have been many advancements in the technologies and processes
used to help us understand the truth of the world around us. The invention of the electron microscope
by Ernst Ruska and Max Knoll in 1933 is just an example of one of these advancements. There is
another advancement that has roots over one hundred and sixty million years old, and that is the green
fluorescent protein (GFP). The fluorescence from GFP molecules has made it feasible to look through
a microscope at a spatial resolution higher than the diffraction limit. The green fluorescent protein was
first found in the Aequorea Victoria, or the crystal jellyfish. It is a bioluminescent hydrozoan jellyfish,
or hydromedusa (1). In the crystal jellyfish, there are two proteins that are responsible for its
bioluminescent, aequorin and GFP. They are both located in the photo organs of the jellyfish. The
jellyfish releases calcium ions which the aequorin binds to. The process of binding gives off a blue
light, which is then absorbed by the GFP. The blue light absorbed is then converted into the green light
that GFP is named for (2). At the moment there is no apparent reason for the bioluminescence
displayed by the Aequorea Victoria since it has not been observed being used as a defense mechanism
or as a signalling mechanism. Osamu Shimomura was the first person to isolate the GFP. He started to
study the bioluminescence of crystal jellyfish at Princeton University in 1960 and he and

Human Bones Research Paper
Human Bones Remodeling and Repair Bones are constantly growing and expanding; they are
undergoing replacement and remodeling. It is obvious that during childhood our bones grow, the long
bones (those in the arms, legs, and back) grow at the ends of the bones, while the flat bones (like those
in our skulls) have a different pattern of growth. What many people do not know is that our bones are
constantly growing and changing from the time we are born until we die. The process is microscopic,
constant and inconspicuous. When a bone breaks; however, the remodeling and repair process is faster
and much more noticeable after a bone is broken. When a bone breaks there are a series of happenings
that our body undergoes in order to repair and remodel. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Examples Of Implicit Personality Theory
Implicit Personality Theory
Dunning (2007) says that implicit personality theory is the idea that if a person displays one
characteristic, they are likely to have other characteristics associated with the displayed characteristic.
Two types of implicit personality theory Dunning (2007) focused on were the halo effect; if someone
exhibits positive attributes, additional positive attributes will be attributed to them by the perceiver
and vice versa, and attractive people are ascribed more positive attributes by others, regardless of
behavior. It is a heuristic used by people to make impulsive decisions. Unfortunately, it frequently
leads to the wrong impression and it allows other people to use it to influence decision making

The Pathology of Whitenes in Pym, by Mat Johnson
Mat Johnsons novel, Pym challenges readers not only to view his work with a new set of eyes but also
the work of all American literature with the understanding that the idea of Whiteness still has a very
strong power over literature today. It is unfortunate that in today s society, the pathology of Whiteness
still holds a very strong presence in literary world. Literature from American authors versus literature
from African American authors still continues to be segregated and handled with two different sets of
criteria. Johnson s novel engages in different aspects of the argument presented in Toni Morrison s
work entitled Playing in the Dark: Whiteness and the Literary Imagination. One of the main ideals that
Pym engages in is the thought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he meets the man hired to be replacement at the bar the young man expresses to him that he
plans to join the diversity committee to make a difference. Jaynes replies to him saying You re not
fighting Whiteness, you re feeding its perversion (20). While some feel as though things such as
diversity committees are put into place to help erase the racial lines that divide American cultures, if
these committees prove to be stagnate and unproductive they are really just keeping the systems
segregated. It is easy to say that you have a diversity committee but if it is not actively trying to fight
against segregation and focusing on all Americans being viewed as one instead of as different subsets,
the committee becomes useless. Instead of the diversity committee representing change, it is aiding in
pathology of Whiteness. Johnson takes Morrison s argument past simply identifying that Whiteness is
still very much dominate in literature today and focuses on ways that we are still helping it to exist. He
challenges the reader to identify the roles they are taking in keeping this impenetrable whiteness alive
and helps them see that they are too affected by the pathology of Whiteness. Johnson challenges the
readers by addressing the very thing that they do to try to make a change is what is holding

Why Is Swing Better Than Traditional Jazz
A few years later that jazz was born in 1930 another style was created and it is call swing. Also called
the big band era because they used more instruments than early jazz. Why swing was the most popular
style of jazz? The reason was because it gave people that swing feeling they wanted the one that made
people dance. Is swing better than traditional jazz? It may be popular but that does not mean that one
is better than the other it was just different in a way that attract to many people and it is hard to
describe what swing feeling really means. The instrumentation used in swing music consisted in five
saxophones, four trumpets and four trombones as the front line and the rhythm section with the guitar,
bass, piano and drums. This instrumentation gave a strong and hot style that people were crazy about.
Always keeping the essence of jazz improvising and keeping the swing feeling although in swing
there were not collective improvisations. Using more instruments allowed musicians to have an
advanced ability in terms of tone, control and speed while they are playing a melody. Because big
bands in the swing era could not do collective improvisations bands started to use more arrangements
and the improvisation was only with solos. Duke Ellington was one of the most influential musician

The Argument That It s Wrong Buy Expensive Suits Essay
952655626 1. Explain Singer s argument that it s wrong to buy expensive suits. One premise in that
argument depends on the claim that it is wrong not to prevent bad if you can do so without giving up
anything of comparable moral importance. In the paper, he offers a weaker version of that premise.
What is it? Why does he think that stronger version is true? Singer s argument Let s imagine I am in
Michael Kehoe s, ready to purchase a brand new suit for $500. As I am about to swipe my card, I see
charity volunteers soliciting donations for malaria ridden Africa. They claim: It only cost $250 to save
a life from malaria! Suppose this was true and by giving my $500 to charity I would save two people
from dying of malaria. However, I only have $500 and will no longer be able to by the suit, if I donate
the money towards saving malaria victims. Given this choice, how ought one act, morally? According
to Peter Singer, it would be morally wrong for me to purchase the suit, instead of saving the lives. He
offers us the following argument: (S1) Suffering and death from lack of food, shelter, and medical care
are bad, typically. (S2) If it is in your power to prevent something bad from happening, without
sacrificing anything of comparable importance, it is wrong not to do so. (C0) If it is in your power to
prevent suffering and death from lack of food, shelter, and medical care without sacrificing anything
of comparable importance, it is wrong not to do so. (S3) It is in

Nonconformism In Manuel Puigan s Kiss Of Spider Woman
In a society governed by straight, cis gender men, the nonconformists have been pushed to the side
and hidden from view. Ashamed by their anomalies, these men have released heteronormative,
patriarchal media to create a conformist society and to label any outsider as strange or other. Although
media about the marginalized exists, they are few and far in between, leaving them to appropriate
other forms of expression. In Manuel Puig s Kiss of Spider Woman, Molina, an effeminate gay man,
recounts the storyline of Jacques Tourner s film, Cat People, through a queer perspective. By
identifying with a nonhuman figure and distorting a heteronormative plotline, Molina recognizes the
animality, or otherness, within himself due to his nonconforming nature. In Molina s narration of
Tourner s film, he often shows admiration towards Irena, a cat person. When introducing her to
Valentín, he expresses that she is not a woman like all the others, indicating her otherness yet
romanticizing her at the same time (Puig 3). She is unlike other women not only because she s non
human but also the heroine (25). This idolization is, furthermore, seen when he bids his cellmate
goodnight. Sweet dreams of Irena, he says, elevating her into an ethereal figure (9). Therefore, Molina
s reverence leads him to place himself in Irena s shoes. Like Irena, he is fond of Oliver because he s
the gentle type, and understanding (17); yet, he loathes the psychiatrist because so does [she],
revealing that his feelings towards the characters are dependent on hers (20). In other instances,
Molina seems to know what Irena is thinking and feeling although the film does not delve into her
mind. He explains how, when seeing Oliver, she [had] such a strong desire to kiss him, on the mouth
(21). Yet, in the film, the viewer is unable to truly know her desires unless they are explicitly said. So,
Molina has assumed her character mentally and emotionally.
However, Molina s identification with Irena is evident in the encounter with the other foreign woman.
In his narration, he explains this scene almost precisely as it is in the film. The only difference is that
Molina can provides a translation for the woman s line. According to

Analysis Of The Article Heart Of Darkness Essay
determiner: Words such as a/an, the, some, and my are determiners, which are utilized to determine
what nouns mean. A/an and the can be considered to be the most significant determiners. A/an and the
also are known as articles. A more comprehensive list of determiners would include any, each, every,
no, his, this/that, these/those, his, her, its, your, our, and their. A concept basic to articles is
countability, and they pose difficult challenges for L2 learners regarding, for example, which nouns
are countable or uncountable in English since countability, while very important, can be difficult to
quantify. An example regarding the use of the article would be the novel Heart of Darkness. Not
having an article at the beginning of this title appears to be more a matter of style than grammar, and
also is a characteristic of headlines, titles, and names. So while conventionally a countable noun (such
as heart) needs a determiner (the, a, this, or my), not applying this rule could be confusing to an L2
learner expecting an article.
2. perfective: In English, there are two aspects (see next entry for a definition of aspect ) perfect (also
called perfective) and continuous (also termed progressive). The perfect aspect establishes a
connection between two periods of time while the continuous aspect typically connotes that an activity
still is occurring, is seen from a specific juncture in time, and the verbs employed are those typically

It is deplorable how easily the American government faltered in its responsibility in upholding the
rights of all American citizens, as well as how easily it was signed away. The United States influenced
by the effects of racial prejudice and mass hysteria, which had been developing since the end of the
First World War, lead to what were seen as reprimandable decisions in overruling the rights of
Japanese Americans. With the major influences of fear mongering caused from a risen tensions of
events in the East, beginning the Second World War in the Pacific, such as the Japanese invasion of
Manchuria, and later, direct attacks in the United States at military base, Pearl Harbor in 1941, were
all proponents into the development of an era of exceptions,

The Literacy And Understanding Of The Inuit Children
The hypotheses will be to test whether different personalities can be or cannot be observed in a group
of pre teens from the Inuit children from northern Canada who will be fluent in the Inuktitut language.
The questionnaire will be prepared based on the level of literacy and understanding of the Inuit
children. The SPSS software will be used to assess the Big Five (Five Factor Model) Personality
Factors (Costa McCrae, 1995). The questionnaires will be translated in the Inuit language and will be

The Lexical hypothesis allowed many factors to emerge, leading to the emerging of the five main
factors (Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism), (Costa McCrae,
1995).
Costs McCrae, (1995) supported the development that each of the Five Factor Model (FFM) further
split into six facets, (Widiger Costa, 2012). The five factor model and their six facets are explained as:
Extraversion (E) gregariousness, sociability, affiliation, dominance, boldness and forcefulness,
Agreeableness (A) generous, cooperative, altruistic and warm, Conscientiousness (C) responsible,
efficiency, dependability, carefulness and organization, Neuroticism (low ES) anxiousness, insecurity,
indecisiveness and being tense /Emotional Stability (ES) self reliant and stable and Openness to
Experience (O) imaginative, unconventional, curious, original and independent minded (Ehrhart et.
al., 2008) allowing the five factor model to be effective in developing cross cultural questionnaires
(Costs McCrae, 1995).
The Five Factor Model (FFM) and the further split into six facets, allows a broad analysis of the
personality traits which is an advantage especially when questions translated into Inuktitut language
which can further be re tested with the same participants (Cooper, 2010).
A test was conducted using the International Personality Item Pool (IPIP; Goldberg, 1999) by Maples

Higher Education Marketing Mix
CHAPTER 3
MARKETING S ROLE IN HIGHER EDUCATION
3.1
INTRODUCTION
Chapter 2 introduced some of the major changes and trends that have taken place in the higher
education environment both internationally and locally. Although higher education institutions can be
classified as non profit organisations, the challenges discussed in Chapter 2 necessitate higher
education institutions to take on the organisation like behaviour of profit organisations and to become
more marketingoriented. An understanding of the environment in which higher education institutions
operate, provides an essential background against which to understand and assess the benefits of
focusing on students as customers. If higher education institutions understand the ... Show more

According to Shoemaker (1999), marketing is the proactive management of the relationship between a

markets by using the tools of marketing: service product, place, price, promotion, process, people
and physical evidence.
Marketing s greater contribution lies in its ability to facilitate the exchange process that takes place
between the non profit organisation such as the higher education institution, and each of the customer
groups it addresses (Sargeant, 2005:295).
Marketing can provide a detailed understanding of the needs of such customers and ensure that the
institution addresses these needs in as efficient and comprehensive manner as possible. This
understanding of customers needs can aid organisations in creating and sustaining a competitive
advantage. Lynch and Baines (2004:171) found that higher education institutions sustainable
competitive advantages are usually based on superior knowledge, reputation, innovation or
architectural related advantages. However, marketing is not stagnant and over the years the marketing
activities of organisations have changed. Kolter (2003) and Strydom, Jooste and Cant (2000:10)
identify four stages that strongly influence the evolution of organisations marketing activities. These
stages are referred to as production, sales, marketing and societal marketing. The production

Roman Senate
It was believed that the senate was founded by Romulus, the first king of the Roman Kingdom. It
consisted 100 patricians in its early period. Unlike its power in the republic, the senate did not have
more power than advising the King legislatively. But the senate still held tremendous prestiges since it
consisted of the wealthiest and the most powerful members of the society. SPQR, the abbreviation of
Senate and the people of Rome that shows the reputation of the senate, means the Roman society was
consisted of senators and non senators citizens. he most clear role that the senate played was the
advisory agency of the King, who held the absolute power of the Roman Kingdom. The King also

Riparian Zone Research Paper
Riparian Zones Small strips of land between the main land and a water bodies are known as a Riparian
zone. The zones act as a buffer between the interior land and the watershed. They do not make up a

Riparian ecosystems share attributes of both aquatic and land ecosystems allowing for greater and a

Brief Biography And Accomplishments Of Oprah Winfrey
Brief Biography and Accomplishments Oprah Winfrey is an icon and role model to men and women
all over the world. Many would find it difficult to pinpoint her greatest accomplishment as Oprah has
affected the lives of so many in catastrophic ways. However, Oprah wasn t someone who was simply
brought up on sums of money, she created her own luck and surpassed traumatic obstacles that
continued to sculpt her into the woman she is today. For Winfrey it all began when she was born in
1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She had a less than traditional upbringing since her parents were
never married and drifted apart, leaving Oprah in the care of her grandmother. This is where she
learned to read and write and develop the speaking skills that she carried with her through her carrier.
As a child she developed these skills through poetry recitals and other public speaking events. Winfrey
s troubles began around the age of 9 when she started to act out. Her lack of parental supervision left
Winfrey extremely vulnerable as she sought attention elsewhere. Before the age of 10 Winfrey was
sexually abused by various men, including her teenage cousin and mother s boyfriend. Winfrey felt
ashamed and held this experience a secret with her for years to come. As Winfrey continued to act out
her mother shipped her off to live with her father in Tennessee. He was a strict disciplinary figure,
something Winfrey greatly lacked in her life, and it was this man who changed her life drastically. My

Tips For Your Fitness Program
5 Easy Ways to Stick to Your Fitness Program The benefits of living an active lifestyle, as opposed to
opting for a sedentary existence are well documented. However, carving out time for personal care can
be difficult in today s fast paced world, so here are some suggestions for starting and maintaining a
workout routine and sticking to it. Don t lose sight of your fitness goals; use these five simple tips to
stay motivated. 1. Choose Physical Activities You Enjoy You are far less likely to do something if you
don t enjoy doing it, so if you hate running, don t start training for a marathon. Not sure what you
might enjoy doing? Expiriment with different activities to find out if they are a good match for you. It
will also be useful to ask yourself the following questions: A. Are you more comfortable outdoors or
inside? Certain activities can go either way. For instance, you can run on a treadmill or in a public
park. B. Are you coordinated or a little clumsy? If you think you d feel out of sorts in a dance class,
yoga might be a more suitable option. C. Do you have money to spend on special clothing, equipment,
lessons or a membership? Or are you looking for something with minimal accoutrements that can be
done practically anywhere? For example, if you travel frequently, jogging or power walking are great
ways to explore your surroundings, without having to pack anything other than a pair of shoes and the
appropriate clothing. 2. Vary Your Routine Try to choose more

Electroniccircuits are then used to represent Boolean operations. Since almost all of mathematics can
be reduced to Boolean operations, a sufficiently fast electronic computer is capable of sloving almost
any mathematical problems (and the majority of information processing problems that can be
translated into mathematical ones). This basic idea, which made modern digital computers possible,
was formally identified and explored by Claude E. Shannon.
Computers cannot solve all mathematical problems. Alan Turing identified which problems could and
could not be solved by computers, and in doing so founded theoretical computer science.
When the computer is finished calculating the problem, the result must be displayed to the user as
output through output devices like light bulbs, LEDs, monitors, beamers and printers.
Novice users, especially children, often have difficulty understanding the important idea that the
computer is only a machine, and cannot think or understand the words it displays. The computer is
simply performing a mechanical lookup on preprogrammed tables of lines and colors, which are then
translated into arbitrary patterns of light by the output device. It is the human brain which recognizes
that those patterns form letters and numbers, and attaches meaning to them. All that existing
computers do is manipulate electrons that are logically equivalent to ones and zeroes; there are no

Slaughterhouse-Five Vs Catch 22 Essay
SlaughterHouse Five Vs. Catch 22: Compare and Contrast Both of the books Slaughterhouse five and
Catch 22, written by Kurt Vonnegut and Joseph Heller respectfully, use the experiences of the authors
to mold their antiwar viewpoints. While both books are written with serious tones they also manage to
include comedy to support some points. Each book is different however with each Heller and
Vonnegut s writing styles. As you read the book you come to realize how war negatively affects the
soldiers involved through the stories of each protagonist in the books. Each book uses a non
chronological structure to tell the stories. In the beginning each book kind of skips about randomly
and creates their own kind of messes. The books both keep up with ... Show more content on

For example, the most ironic part of Catch 22 is the catch 22 itself. A catch 22 is defined as a dilemma
or difficult circumstance from which there is no escape because of mutually conflicting or dependent
conditions. You can see an easy example from just reading the description of the book. A man is
considered insane if he willingly continues to fly dangerous combat missions, but if he makes a formal
request to be removed from duty, he is proven sane and therefore ineligible to be relieved. What this is
pretty much saying is someone who wants to be discharged is sane and has to go on more missions but
someone who goes on these missions is considered insane. because people do not want to go to war
The number of flight missions to be flown before a soldier can be dismissed is raised. The reason for
this is because Colonel Cathcart wants to be promoted to a General. Just as Yossarian, the protagonist,
gets closer to the number of required number of missions, the number is raised. Slaughterhouse Five
actually goes farther than just using the non chronological structure by also writing in short chapters.
The chapters are comprised of short paragraphs that are divided into unrelated sections. Vonnegut uses
this unique structure because the way events are told to the reader is similar to how undifferentiated
schizophrenics think and communicate ideas which

The Management Of Mental Health Disorders
Psychiatry and psychology work together in treating and diagnosing mental disorders. Mental illness
include abnormalities in the emotional, mental, and behavioral areas of an individual s life. Mental
disorders are diagnosed by the outlined criteria, in approved diagnostic manuals. The management of
mental health disorders involves a combination therapy of drugs and psychotherapy such as
electroconvulsive therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy as well as others, depending on the disease.
The treatment can be outpatient or inpatient depending on the disease severity. Some patients or their
family may question the effect of the treatment they receive, like medicine, because of the constant
change of therapy plans and modifications in prescription. Although some treatments have been
questioned on their effectiveness, psychotherapy has a positive outcome in patients.
There is much thought around psychiatry with people questioning the efficiency of the psychiatric
treatment and others arguing that mental disorders do not exist. Individuals with anti psychiatric views
claim that the treatments that are used for mental illnesses are ineffective, unsafe, unnecessary, and are
not any helpful to the patients. Questions have arisen that psychiatry hand out medicine freely and that
certain measures used in the treatment of mental illnesses like lobotomy, an operation that disconnects
connections in the front of the brain, and electro convulsion that send electric currents to create

Hip Hop Vs Jazz Music Essay
What if someone would make a mash up of the two music genres, jazz and hip hop? Jazz music can
date to the early 1900 s but there is no specified founder (www.jazzinamerica.org). Hip hop can also
trace back to an approximate start date, but there is not just one creator (Errey 1997). Jazz and hip hop
have many similarities along with their numerous differences. Jazz music and hip hop music are both
genres of music that have long histories and have lots of similarities and differences, too. First of all,
the historical timeline of jazz is very long and complicated, leading to no single founder of the genre.
A thick horde of dark bodies frames into circular gatherings maybe five or six hundred people moving
so as to the pulsations of the music (www.nytimes.com). This could be an African country or just
about everywhere (www.nytimes.com). But, this is New Orleans, The Big Easy (www.nytimes.com).
Crazy, right, how diverse this country is? Anyway, this is where some people believe jazz first started.
However, this source claims, The city that was the birthplace of jazz was New Orleans...would ...

One difference is that both genres use different instruments. Jazz uses many orchestral instruments,
while hip hop, as stated previously, uses mostly computer generated sounds and beats. An example of
this is comparing The Sound of Silence and Hotline Bling s instrumental use. The Sound of Silence
uses a trumpet while Hotline Bling uses technologically edited sounds. Another difference is the
genres birthplaces. Jazz was in the New Orleans area, while hip hop was more near New York City
(Kumar 2011). The genres uses of improvisation are starkly different (Kumar 2011). Jazz music
usually has one musician who goes off and does an improvised thing as the other musicians keep
playing the melody, while in hip hop music, the melody doesn t usually keep playing while the person

The Life of David Brainerd
David Brainerd was born in on April 20, 1718 to Hezekiah Brainerd, Esq, and Dorothy Hobart. He had
four brothers and four sisters. Most of his brothers ended up in the ministry, although those that did
not were respectable upright people. David s father died when he was nine and his mother died five
years later when David was fourteen, so at a very young David was fatherless and motherless.1 David
was always a type of person inclined to be melancholy. He was always a religious person. He made
sure that he did everything right, because he was afraid of death. He performed all the duties of
religion without a true conversion.2 Then, in 1738, David went to live with a man named Rev. Mr.
Fiske. It was here that David kept a regular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He would continually say in his diary that he felt the Lord. Then the next day he said that he did not
feel the presence of the Lord. Overall he would say that he longed to grow closer and closer to the
Lord. By November of 1742, Brainerd had become commissioned to be a missionary to the Indians.11
During that time of being a missionary, David, who had an estate left to him by his father, sold his
estate and used that money to fund a young man s college bill. That young man continued to have his
school bill paid for until his benefactor died. He was able to go through college until his junior year of
college.12 Soon David was told by his missionary directors that they would like him to go the the
Indians that lived near the Delaware and Susquehanna Rivers. On December 15, 1742 he said good
bye to his friends lest they never meet on this earth again, which was a possibility due to the danger
and weather of where he was going. On February 2, 1743, David Brainerd preached his farewell
sermon in the home of an elderly man, who had not been able to get out his house for some time, then
David parted with his friends to go be a missionary to Indians.13 Before David actually headed to his
Indians, David talked about his spiritual life in his diary. He talked about enjoying spiritual peace and
comfort, and sorrow of sin. He also was in agony over sin. Then on April 1, he arrived at his Indians,

The Frontier Of American History
In the Significance of the Frontier in American History, Frederick Jackson Turner discusses the
understanding of the West as a concept. Turner s claims included that the expansion into the frontier
fueled individualism, stimulated democracy and nationalism, and widened the opportunity of
advancement. In the census of 1890, the frontier no longer had a place in the report because the
previously unsettled areas had been broken into areas of settlement. Turner uses the definition of two
people per square mile of land as the frontier s official closing, and no longer a point of historical
relevance. In the essay, Turner points out the differences in America s expansion with other nations.
Other nations developed in a confined area, then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem developed from excess credit of one of the field s founders, Frederick Jackson Turner.
Although Turner s writings left out large groups of people, many Americans viewed Turner s thesis as
Western history. When Turner s ideas began to be criticized, that something had gone wrong in
Western history, not Turner s thesis. The view of Western history slowly began to change. Turner
recognized the national significance of the frontier, so abandoning him would threaten the place of the
West in American history (Limerick). In 1984, American historian Patricia Limerick attended a history
conference. All of the focus of the history of America was on the revolutionary war in the East. This
inspired her to write Legacy of Conquest. Limerick wanted to reclaim what other historians have said,
critique Turner, but not throw the idea of the west away. Her thesis argues the West as a place of
property and cultural dominance. Limerick defines the West as a place of conquest and diversity.
Limerick stresses the West as a place rather than a process, but didn t draw exact borders of the region.
Limerick deemphasizes the end of the frontier; she argues that the West was an important meeting
ground for a diversity of languages, cultures, and religions, including minorities Turner left out. This
blending of diversity in the West is an

Essay on Music Industry
In a day and age where getting noticed or receiving recognition within the music industry is a struggle,
upon releasing material musicians enter a battlefield. For established musicians, those with a loyal fan
base, recognition isn t necessarily a problem but for musicians attempting to make it , it is. There are a
number of ways in which a budding musician can increase their chances of gaining recognition and
one of the most common attempts comes in the form of the remix. Musicians, primarily working in
dance, electronic or hip hop genres remix tracks of already established musicians in a bid to target and
get recognition from the audience of the already established musician. This is not to say that this is the
only reason for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a classical music context the term recomposition is used, whereas remix is more commonly used to
within dance, electronic and hip hop factions. For some, recomposition tends to suggest the musician
is, for lack of a better word, composing more and therefore, the material being their own, it has more
artistic integrity and substance. Is this always the case though? Remix seems to imply that the
musician is simply reusing the parts of a given piece and putting them back together in a different
way, a process which involves much less artistic endeavour. I feel that this however, is not the case
and it is my opinion that neither term, nor the procedures associated with them, involves more or less
artistic truth than the other. It is for this reason that for the purposes of this essay the terms remix and
recomposition are considered synonyms. My reasons for this point will be summed up in argument
later.
So, why when remixes are so common today, hundreds being released onto the internet daily, would a
musician risk releasing their work amongst the melange of bad remixes? And why else, other than the
reasons stated above, would someone recompose or remix a piece at all? These are both questions I
intend to answer in the course of this essay through examining two examples of recomposition. Both
examples demonstrate reworking another composer s work but they are from very different times and
very dissimilar

Nobody Knows Sparknotes
Making jokes is the best way for people to create connections. However, a person s sense of humor
makes a huge difference in joking telling because jokes can offend people and has various
consequences. Making jokes about people is common between friends because a man can understand
that his friend only wants to get a couple laughs out of him and that his joke shouldn t be taken to
heart. In the short story Nobody Knows, a man, who clearly has not mastered English, comes up to a
random man asking him to explain a fight to a nearby cop. When the man says, Tell the cop that guys

The kid throws a punch at the man and a ten second fight breaks out. The way everything played out,
the man started the fight because the kid could have interpreted the joke has the man insulting his art
skills. Another reason why the man is at fault is that he didn t even know the person so why would he
make a joke about his dick for? Plus, talking about dick does lead to fights at times, depending on how
people throw the word dick around. After the ten second round ends, the man finds the stranger to help
him explain the situation to the nearby cop. If I was the cop, the first thing I would tell the man is, Sir,
please learn how to speak and write English properly because you sound like a kid trying to read a
physics textbook. And second of all, why would you hit a kid with a bottle if he tried to punch you?
The man could have easily done serious damage to the kid and risk going to jail over a dick joke. Not
to mention that he s older than the kid and he s the one telling the kid a dick joke. As the cop, all I
would need to say is, You re a grown man and what comes to your mind is telling a dick joke to some

Rising Water Levels Threatening The Maldives Islands
Rising Water Levels Threatening the Maldives Islands
The global warming is a phenomenon happening all over the earth, there are several causes, but most
are a result of human activity. The graph in image 1 shows that a significant increase in the climate
temperature in the mid 20th century, somewhere between 1900 and 1950. The industrial revolution
happened between the years 1820 and 1840, although great improvements in technology were
achieved in the 1900 s. The increasing temperatures since the industrial revolution work as a proof
that global warming is a direct effect of human activity. As image 1 shows before the 20th century the
variations in the earth s climate were minimal, except for that of the ice age. Although the industrial
revolution detonated the rising temperature due to the use of new chemicals, this change is not evident
until it surpasses the previously registered temperatures in the mid 1900 s. Science and technology
have improved in the last 200 years, most devices used to measure changes in temperatures were just
developed about 150 years ago, so there is not much information of the temperatures before that
(Vallis). Nevertheless, scientists have been able to estimate the earth s temperature from millions of
years ago by studding trees, fossils, sediments and water temperatures. Recent studies have proved
how many man made chemicals and activities have contributed to the climate change, affecting the
natural processes in the earth like the

  • 3. Brendan Behan’s The Quare Fellow and Samuel Beckett Essay Brendan Behan s The Quare Fellow and Samuel Beckett Existential works are difficult to describe because the definition of existentialism covers a wide range of ideas and influences almost to the point of ambiguity. An easy, if not basic, approach to existentialism is to view it as a culmination of attitudes from the oppressed people of industrialization, writers and philosophers during the modern literary period, and people who were personally involved as civilians, soldiers, or rebels during WWII and witnessed the worst aspects of life and war. These attitudes combined the aspects of loss of identity and autonomy, the uselessness of pain, a sense of alienation, and the meaninglessness of a harsh life where death is the only way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brendan Behan s play, The Quare Fellow, contains all the characteristics of an existential work through the depiction the realistic portrayal of an Irish prison. Behan wastes no time in expressing his disdain for the public s blind acceptance of the present state and motives of the modern world. The setting of the play, an Irish prison, is a microcosm for the modern, capitalistic society. In this context, the inmates represent ordinary citizens of society and the warders, respectively, represent those who maintain power and order governments and corporations. Behan s presented imagery is that of an inescapable world where no person is actually free. There are always powers that people must follow and respect in order to survive in such a society. The loss of autonomy and complete freedom is always the result, thus perpetuating the stratification of power and the continued sacrifice of the masses; however, the delusion of freedom is always present. Although Mickser is released from the prison, there seems to be little hope in his future as he ll be back, inevitably, in prison (Behan 309). Mickser is a physically free man, but with the world working against him, he will return to the place where every decision is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Argumentative Essay On Orca Captivity Zoological parks, aquariums, and theme parks featuring cetaceans have proven to be hotspots for a wide range of strongly held opinions regarding mammalian ethics and environmental education. Although some animal rights activists and concerned citizens question the practice keeping of any wild animal in captivity, orca whales (Orcinus orca) have become a species of particular contention in recent years. The questionable history of orca capture, beginning with the sad story of Moby Doll and the Penn Cove incident, combined with the recent deaths of SeaWorld trainers and the inflammatory Blackfish documentary, have brought the issue to a head. Marine parks and some scientists agree that while the wild is the optimal environment for orcas, holding some in captivity is an invaluable asset for conservation, environmental education, and research. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the first orcas that were captured were already weak and sickly; however, others, such as Moby Doll and the orcas captured in Penn Cove, were violently seized from the wild (Center for Whale Research, n.d.). Robeck, Willis, Scarpuzzi, and O Brien (2015) report that between 1965 and 1985, 18 orcas were taken from the wild and placed in the care of Sea World. By 1985, all but 8 of these whales had passed away (Robeck et al., 2015). One scientific survey conducted during this time frame sought to compile the reports of the known causes of death for numerous captured individuals. Ridgway (1979) determined that several mortalities were due to pre existing conditions or injuries sustained prior to the capture of the whales. However, he also acknowledged that numerous deaths were the direct result of either illnesses obtained during capture or the inability of several aquariums to properly care for the animals (Ridgway, ... The advantages of using the microcontroller is the reduction of the cost and also the use of extra hardware such as the use of timer RAM and ROM can be avoided. This technology is very fast so controlling of multiple parameters is possible; also the parameters are field programmable by the user. The electrical engineering and its applications are the oldest streams of Engineering. Though these systems are quite reliable and cheaper, it has certain disadvantages. The electro mechanical protection relays are too bulky and needs regular maintenance. The multifunctional is out of question. Recently, the technical revolution made embedded technology cheaper, so that it can be applied to all the fields. 2. • 8. Using The Methods Of Categorization And Compartmentalization Check One Using the methods of categorization and compartmentalization in order to more easily comprehend difficult subjects is natural, yet when the objects subjected to forced categorical placement are human beings, how can this method still be justified? When taking a standardized test, filling out legal paperwork, or taking a census, we are presented with a question that, in some cases, might be more difficult than all of the following questions on an exam. Staring up from the page are the words Ethnicity: (Choose One) followed by a series of boxes next to words such as White , Black , Asian , etc. When did the colors White and Black , a singular phenotypic characteristic, come to define an entire race? This perception of color stems from colonial times when white Euro colonizers imposed their self righteous attitudes of white supremacy on their newly acquired lands. These ideals involved in the creation of the binaries of black and white, which originate in the slave and master relationship established in the exploitation of African (black) slaves by European colonizers and plantation owners (white). In L. Kaifa Roland s Cuban Color in Tourism and La Lucha: An Ethnography of Racial Meanings and Junot Diaz s How to Date a Brown Girl, Black Girl, White Girl, or Halfie , the authors explore the trials faced by modern day colored people. • 9. The Identity of an American Puerto Rican Essay The Identity of an American Puerto Rican Am I American or Puerto Rican , a question that wanders along the halls of my mind all the time? Many Puerto Ricans might not agree, but I feel that I am, American , Puerto Rican American that is. As a child my own parents deprived me of my culture and true identity. They spoke to me in a language that many Puerto Ricans refused or detested to learn, English. The only thing I can actually say that I know about Puerto Rican heritage is the comida we shared during family gatherings. In Spanish the words are habichuelas con arroz; in English, rice and beans; and in any language they translate into the food staples of island life (p. 59, Fernandez). Though my readings can contradict such happy memories, I will soon talk about the political, economic, social relations and identity issues that Puerto Ricans had to encounter after the Spanish American War and during the United States invasion and how it affected Puerto Ricans then and now. The political status, who cares about politics and its status? Well many Puerto Ricans did when the United States invaded it. There were so many issues about the island wanting to be self governed. According to Fernandez, others wanted statehood, while still others adamantly opposed the inclusion of the statehood ideal in any Union platform; to paraphrase one protester, the United States was able to deny Puerto Rico both statehood and self government. That was its right. But it was not able to deny the island its independence because that was a right of the Puerto Rican people (p. 43). Still, until present day the island is indecisive about becoming a state or staying a commonwealth or even being independent. After the Spanish American War Puerto Ricans had more of a decision to make about what they wanted to do with themselves. They weren t under Spanish rule anymore, but inherited the American Government to help with certain affairs, though, cries for help were sometimes ignored. For example, on August 12, 1907, Jose De Diego stopped at Oyster Bay to once again plead for more self government . When the petition was duly filed and, like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is through these elections that we are able select public officials who will represent our state and work towards making it better. • 11. The Invention Of The Electron Microscope By Ernst Ruska... In the scientific community, there have been many advancements in the technologies and processes used to help us understand the truth of the world around us. The invention of the electron microscope by Ernst Ruska and Max Knoll in 1933 is just an example of one of these advancements. There is another advancement that has roots over one hundred and sixty million years old, and that is the green fluorescent protein (GFP). The fluorescence from GFP molecules has made it feasible to look through a microscope at a spatial resolution higher than the diffraction limit. The green fluorescent protein was first found in the Aequorea Victoria, or the crystal jellyfish. It is a bioluminescent hydrozoan jellyfish, or hydromedusa (1). In the crystal jellyfish, there are two proteins that are responsible for its bioluminescent, aequorin and GFP. They are both located in the photo organs of the jellyfish. The jellyfish releases calcium ions which the aequorin binds to. The process of binding gives off a blue light, which is then absorbed by the GFP. The blue light absorbed is then converted into the green light that GFP is named for (2). At the moment there is no apparent reason for the bioluminescence displayed by the Aequorea Victoria since it has not been observed being used as a defense mechanism or as a signalling mechanism. Osamu Shimomura was the first person to isolate the GFP. He started to study the bioluminescence of crystal jellyfish at Princeton University in 1960 and he and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is obvious that during childhood our bones grow, the long bones (those in the arms, legs, and back) grow at the ends of the bones, while the flat bones (like those in our skulls) have a different pattern of growth. What many people do not know is that our bones are constantly growing and changing from the time we are born until we die. The process is microscopic, constant and inconspicuous. When a bone breaks; however, the remodeling and repair process is faster and much more noticeable after a bone is broken. The Pathology of Whitenes in Pym, by Mat Johnson Mat Johnsons novel, Pym challenges readers not only to view his work with a new set of eyes but also the work of all American literature with the understanding that the idea of Whiteness still has a very strong power over literature today. It is unfortunate that in today s society, the pathology of Whiteness still holds a very strong presence in literary world. Literature from American authors versus literature from African American authors still continues to be segregated and handled with two different sets of criteria. It is easy to say that you have a diversity committee but if it is not actively trying to fight against segregation and focusing on all Americans being viewed as one instead of as different subsets, the committee becomes useless. Instead of the diversity committee representing change, it is aiding in pathology of Whiteness. Johnson takes Morrison s argument past simply identifying that Whiteness is still very much dominate in literature today and focuses on ways that we are still helping it to exist. Also called the big band era because they used more instruments than early jazz. Why swing was the most popular style of jazz? The reason was because it gave people that swing feeling they wanted the one that made people dance. Is swing better than traditional jazz? It may be popular but that does not mean that one is better than the other it was just different in a way that attract to many people and it is hard to describe what swing feeling really means. The instrumentation used in swing music consisted in five saxophones, four trumpets and four trombones as the front line and the rhythm section with the guitar, bass, piano and drums. This instrumentation gave a strong and hot style that people were crazy about. Always keeping the essence of jazz improvising and keeping the swing feeling although in swing there were not collective improvisations. Using more instruments allowed musicians to have an advanced ability in terms of tone, control and speed while they are playing a melody. In the paper, he offers a weaker version of that premise. What is it? Why does he think that stronger version is true? Singer s argument Let s imagine I am in Michael Kehoe s, ready to purchase a brand new suit for $500. As I am about to swipe my card, I see charity volunteers soliciting donations for malaria ridden Africa. They claim: It only cost $250 to save a life from malaria! Suppose this was true and by giving my $500 to charity I would save two people from dying of malaria. However, I only have $500 and will no longer be able to by the suit, if I donate the money towards saving malaria victims. Given this choice, how ought one act, morally? According to Peter Singer, it would be morally wrong for me to purchase the suit, instead of saving the lives. Ashamed by their anomalies, these men have released heteronormative, patriarchal media to create a conformist society and to label any outsider as strange or other. Although media about the marginalized exists, they are few and far in between, leaving them to appropriate other forms of expression. In Manuel Puig s Kiss of Spider Woman, Molina, an effeminate gay man, recounts the storyline of Jacques Tourner s film, Cat People, through a queer perspective. By identifying with a nonhuman figure and distorting a heteronormative plotline, Molina recognizes the animality, or otherness, within himself due to his nonconforming nature. In Molina s narration of Tourner s film, he often shows admiration towards Irena, a cat person. When introducing her to Valentín, he expresses that she is not a woman like all the others, indicating her otherness yet romanticizing her at the same time (Puig 3). She is unlike other women not only because she s non human but also the heroine (25). This idolization is, furthermore, seen when he bids his cellmate goodnight. Sweet dreams of Irena, he says, elevating her into an ethereal figure (9). Therefore, Molina s reverence leads him to place himself in Irena s shoes. Like Irena, he is fond of Oliver because he s the gentle type, and understanding (17); yet, he loathes the psychiatrist because so does [she], revealing that his feelings towards the characters are dependent on hers (20). In other instances, Molina seems to know what Irena is thinking and feeling although the film does not delve into her mind. He explains how, when seeing Oliver, she [had] such a strong desire to kiss him, on the mouth (21). Yet, in the film, the viewer is unable to truly know her desires unless they are explicitly said. So, Molina has assumed her character mentally and emotionally. However, Molina s identification with Irena is evident in the encounter with the other foreign woman. In his narration, he explains this scene almost precisely as it is in the film. The only difference is that Molina can provides a translation for the woman s line. According to ... • 21. Analysis Of The Article Heart Of Darkness Essay determiner: Words such as a/an, the, some, and my are determiners, which are utilized to determine what nouns mean. A/an and the can be considered to be the most significant determiners. A/an and the also are known as articles. A more comprehensive list of determiners would include any, each, every, no, his, this/that, these/those, his, her, its, your, our, and their. A concept basic to articles is countability, and they pose difficult challenges for L2 learners regarding, for example, which nouns are countable or uncountable in English since countability, while very important, can be difficult to quantify. An example regarding the use of the article would be the novel Heart of Darkness. Not having an article at the beginning of this title appears to be more a matter of style than grammar, and also is a characteristic of headlines, titles, and names. So while conventionally a countable noun (such as heart) needs a determiner (the, a, this, or my), not applying this rule could be confusing to an L2 learner expecting an article. 2. perfective: In English, there are two aspects (see next entry for a definition of aspect ) perfect (also called perfective) and continuous (also termed progressive). A man is considered insane if he willingly continues to fly dangerous combat missions, but if he makes a formal request to be removed from duty, he is proven sane and therefore ineligible to be relieved. What this is pretty much saying is someone who wants to be discharged is sane and has to go on more missions but someone who goes on these missions is considered insane. because people do not want to go to war The number of flight missions to be flown before a soldier can be dismissed is raised. The reason for this is because Colonel Cathcart wants to be promoted to a General. Just as Yossarian, the protagonist, gets closer to the number of required number of missions, the number is raised. Slaughterhouse Five actually goes farther than just using the non chronological structure by also writing in short chapters. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One difference is that both genres use different instruments. Jazz uses many orchestral instruments, while hip hop, as stated previously, uses mostly computer generated sounds and beats. An example of this is comparing The Sound of Silence and Hotline Bling s instrumental use. The Sound of Silence uses a trumpet while Hotline Bling uses technologically edited sounds. Another difference is the genres birthplaces. Jazz was in the New Orleans area, while hip hop was more near New York City (Kumar 2011). The genres uses of improvisation are starkly different (Kumar 2011). Jazz music usually has one musician who goes off and does an improvised thing as the other musicians keep playing the melody, while in hip hop music, the melody doesn t usually keep playing while the person rapping ... • 34. The Life of David Brainerd David Brainerd was born in on April 20, 1718 to Hezekiah Brainerd, Esq, and Dorothy Hobart. He had four brothers and four sisters. Most of his brothers ended up in the ministry, although those that did not were respectable upright people. David s father died when he was nine and his mother died five years later when David was fourteen, so at a very young David was fatherless and motherless.1 David was always a type of person inclined to be melancholy. He was always a religious person. He made sure that he did everything right, because he was afraid of death. He performed all the duties of religion without a true conversion.2 Then, in 1738, David went to live with a man named Rev. Mr. Fiske. It was here that David kept a regular ... Overall he would say that he longed to grow closer and closer to the Lord. By November of 1742, Brainerd had become commissioned to be a missionary to the Indians.11 During that time of being a missionary, David, who had an estate left to him by his father, sold his estate and used that money to fund a young man s college bill. That young man continued to have his school bill paid for until his benefactor died. He was able to go through college until his junior year of college.12 Soon David was told by his missionary directors that they would like him to go the the Indians that lived near the Delaware and Susquehanna Rivers. On December 15, 1742 he said good bye to his friends lest they never meet on this earth again, which was a possibility due to the danger and weather of where he was going. On February 2, 1743, David Brainerd preached his farewell sermon in the home of an elderly man, who had not been able to get out his house for some time, then David parted with his friends to go be a missionary to Indians.13 Before David actually headed to his Indians, David talked about his spiritual life in his diary. He talked about enjoying spiritual peace and comfort, and sorrow of sin. He also was in agony over sin. Then on April 1, he arrived at his Indians, not the ones near the Delaware and ... • 35. The Frontier Of American History In the Significance of the Frontier in American History, Frederick Jackson Turner discusses the understanding of the West as a concept. Turner s claims included that the expansion into the frontier fueled individualism, stimulated democracy and nationalism, and widened the opportunity of advancement. In the census of 1890, the frontier no longer had a place in the report because the previously unsettled areas had been broken into areas of settlement. Turner uses the definition of two people per square mile of land as the frontier s official closing, and no longer a point of historical relevance. In the essay, Turner points out the differences in America s expansion with other nations. Other nations developed in a confined area, then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problem developed from excess credit of one of the field s founders, Frederick Jackson Turner. Although Turner s writings left out large groups of people, many Americans viewed Turner s thesis as Western history. When Turner s ideas began to be criticized, that something had gone wrong in Western history, not Turner s thesis. The view of Western history slowly began to change. Turner recognized the national significance of the frontier, so abandoning him would threaten the place of the West in American history (Limerick). In 1984, American historian Patricia Limerick attended a history conference. All of the focus of the history of America was on the revolutionary war in the East. This inspired her to write Legacy of Conquest. Limerick wanted to reclaim what other historians have said, critique Turner, but not throw the idea of the west away. Her thesis argues the West as a place of property and cultural dominance. Limerick defines the West as a place of conquest and diversity. Limerick stresses the West as a place rather than a process, but didn t draw exact borders of the region. Limerick deemphasizes the end of the frontier; she argues that the West was an important meeting ground for a diversity of languages, cultures, and religions, including minorities Turner left out. This blending of diversity in the West is an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Essay on Music Industry In a day and age where getting noticed or receiving recognition within the music industry is a struggle, upon releasing material musicians enter a battlefield. For established musicians, those with a loyal fan base, recognition isn t necessarily a problem but for musicians attempting to make it , it is. There are a number of ways in which a budding musician can increase their chances of gaining recognition and one of the most common attempts comes in the form of the remix. Musicians, primarily working in dance, electronic or hip hop genres remix tracks of already established musicians in a bid to target and get recognition from the audience of the already established musician. This is not to say that this is the only reason for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a classical music context the term recomposition is used, whereas remix is more commonly used to within dance, electronic and hip hop factions. For some, recomposition tends to suggest the musician is, for lack of a better word, composing more and therefore, the material being their own, it has more artistic integrity and substance. Is this always the case though? Remix seems to imply that the musician is simply reusing the parts of a given piece and putting them back together in a different way, a process which involves much less artistic endeavour. I feel that this however, is not the case and it is my opinion that neither term, nor the procedures associated with them, involves more or less artistic truth than the other. It is for this reason that for the purposes of this essay the terms remix and recomposition are considered synonyms. My reasons for this point will be summed up in argument later. So, why when remixes are so common today, hundreds being released onto the internet daily, would a musician risk releasing their work amongst the melange of bad remixes? And why else, other than the reasons stated above, would someone recompose or remix a piece at all? These are both questions I intend to answer in the course of this essay through examining two examples of recomposition. Both examples demonstrate reworking another composer s work but they are from very different times and very dissimilar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Nobody Knows Sparknotes Making jokes is the best way for people to create connections. However, a person s sense of humor makes a huge difference in joking telling because jokes can offend people and has various consequences. Making jokes about people is common between friends because a man can understand that his friend only wants to get a couple laughs out of him and that his joke shouldn t be taken to heart. In the short story Nobody Knows, a man, who clearly has not mastered English, comes up to a random man asking him to explain a fight to a nearby cop. When the man says, Tell the cop that guys like that, guys that don t know the scene the first impression of him is that he s a regular at the bar and that the other man was new to the bar. The way everything played out, the man started the fight because the kid could have interpreted the joke has the man insulting his art skills. Another reason why the man is at fault is that he didn t even know the person so why would he make a joke about his dick for? Plus, talking about dick does lead to fights at times, depending on how people throw the word dick around. After the ten second round ends, the man finds the stranger to help him explain the situation to the nearby cop. If I was the cop, the first thing I would tell the man is, Sir, please learn how to speak and write English properly because you sound like a kid trying to read a physics textbook. And second of all, why would you hit a kid with a bottle if he tried to punch you? The man could have easily done serious damage to the kid and risk going to jail over a dick joke. Not to mention that he s older than the kid and he s the one telling the kid a dick joke. As the cop, all I would need to say is, You re a grown man and what comes to your mind is telling a dick joke to some kid you ve never ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rising Water Levels Threatening The Maldives Islands Rising Water Levels Threatening the Maldives Islands The global warming is a phenomenon happening all over the earth, there are several causes, but most are a result of human activity. The graph in image 1 shows that a significant increase in the climate temperature in the mid 20th century, somewhere between 1900 and 1950. The industrial revolution happened between the years 1820 and 1840, although great improvements in technology were achieved in the 1900 s. The increasing temperatures since the industrial revolution work as a proof that global warming is a direct effect of human activity. As image 1 shows before the 20th century the variations in the earth s climate were minimal, except for that of the ice age. Although the industrial revolution detonated the rising temperature due to the use of new chemicals, this change is not evident until it surpasses the previously registered temperatures in the mid 1900 s. Science and technology have improved in the last 200 years, most devices used to measure changes in temperatures were just developed about 150 years ago, so there is not much information of the temperatures before that (Vallis). Nevertheless, scientists have been able to estimate the earth s temperature from millions of years ago by studding trees, fossils, sediments and water temperatures. Recent studies have proved how many man made chemicals and activities have contributed to the climate change, affecting the natural processes in the earth like the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
