Raymond Carver and his Works
Part 2
I personally believe that with any story told or movie made that you have to creator s life to see where
the story actually comes from. No matter what we do in life we all as human beings find a way to
show what we have been through in our lives. Raymond Carver was no different just he had a really
tough road that he traveled and it showed in his stories. According to an interview with William, Stull
in Matters of Life Death: An Interview with Raymond Carver Carver also understood that his life
showed through in his work, Wolff said in a review of my first book of stories that he felt he could
pick out a story of mine without seeing my name attached to it. I took that as a compliment. If you can
find an author s fingerprints on the work, you can tell it s his and no other s. (Stull 14 17) Carver s life
bled through his work and in The Bath we can see this. In The Bath we have a couple dealing with the
accident their son had been in and it seemed to push them apart more than they already were. The fact
of the couple losing touch with each other managed to transcend the story into Carver s real life,
Carver s marriage to his first wife Maryann. But instead of an accident pushing Raymond and
Maryann apart, it was Raymond s addiction to Alcohol and the problems that came with his addiction.
According to Abby, Werlock in The Facts on File Companion to the American Short Story Carver s
alcohol addiction was spiraling out of control and was poised to take

Eva Braun Research Paper
Life of Eva Braun Eva Braun was one of Hitler s strongest supporters and played an interesting part in
Hitler s life. Eva and Hitler had a mysterious relationship. She played an important role in his inner
circle and as a loyal supporter. In the end, what was behind their suicides? Little information is known
about Eva s childhood. Hitler and Eva meet in Munich in 1929 when she was a model and assistant to
Hitler s personal photographer. She was 17 years old when they met. About two years later they
started to see each other more and more. They were rarely seen together in public and didn t get
married until the last 40 hours of their lives. The article Eva Braun says: She entered his household in
1936, although their relationship was kept secret (P.1). Many people believe that the relationship was
just for show, but Hitler s long time secretary, Christa Schroeder, admitted in an interrogation in 1945
that Hitler had treated Braun as his wife. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although she was not a Nazi, she supported Hitler s views and beliefs. According to Heike G.
Görtemaker, a German historian and author, he states in, She Was Not A Passive Bystander, that Eva
became a well known person in Hitler s inner circle. But the sources available now show that Eva
Braun has to be seen as part of Hitler s inner circle and not apart from it. Her life should not be called
lost or tragic. She wanted to be at Hitler s side, and fought very hard, with all means, to achieve that
position (P.

Struggles of the Dalit Movement in Anand Patwardhan’s...
On the morning of 11th July, 1997, at Ramabai Colony in Mumbai, garland of slippers is seen on the
statue of Dr. Ambedkar. Soon upset Dalits gather to protest against the sacrilege. Within a few hours, a
police van reaches the spot and starts to fire. They fire at people who weren t even protesting, killing
ten people on the spot. Vilas Ghogre, a Dalit Marxist poet and singer, moved by the incident to such
an extent that he committed suicide.
Anand Patwardhan s documentary Jai Bhim Comrade is about Dalit movement and struggle for
recognition of their identity and acceptance of their existence within socio politico economic milieu.
The three hour long movie covers the time period of fourteen years, incorporating layered, personal
narratives of Dalits, their aspirations and their desire to achieve what Ambedkar said in his one of the
most radical texts The Annihilation of Caste , to dismantle the caste system. The film provides an
insight into the cruelty and discrimination against Dalits, which has been naturalized and
institutionalized within our so called progressive Hindu society. Patvardhan is trying to situate various
personal narratives within the larger narrative of Dalit resistance and struggle. I personally found the
movie extremely strong, which renders the audience literally speechless. It shakes one s entire belief
system and forces one to interrogate various pockets of society which collectively form the society as
it is. The movie turns the notion of

Causes Of Fear Of Crime
Gilchrist et al (1998, pg283) explains that the fear of crime has become a phenomenon and one that
will be discussed within this journal review exploring whether or not women s fear is rational or not.
McLaughlin (2001) cited in Kinsella, C (2005) defines fear of crime as ...a rational or irrational state
of alarm or anxiety engendered by the belief that one is in danger of criminal victimisation . Campbell
(2005, pg120) explains that due to social political mobility, women s fear of rape is heightened, thus
women are dependent on men to protect them from other men, however, it has been shown that family
members and close friends are normally the rapists. Alongside this, Campbell (2005, pg121) continues
to explain that through a criminological and victimological viewpoint, the institutional, political and
cultural surroundings additionally express that women are more at risk than men. The British Crime
Survey contributes further evidence of women being assaulted by men they know as the survey
showed that 32% of women were sexually assaulted by a partner compared to 8% by strangers.
Gilchrist et al (1998, pg284) explains that with a low crime threat, women still have an irrational
response. However, feminist writers explain that this could be due to the fact that women suffer sexual
harassment and have less control over their space than men do, thus the higher fear levels.
Furthermore, Gilchrist (1998, pg285) tells us that women are are not hysterically overreacting to a

Blanche Dubois Madness
In A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, madness plays a large role in the main character
of Blanche. However, William allows Blanche s character to fall into the stereotypical role of the
insane character. Where as madness is highly feminized in a character such as Blanche who is
personified as being a delusional alcoholic; male characters are given positive ad artistic qualities such
as Darl Bundren from As I Lay Dying by, William Faulkner. There is an inequality of the sexes that
arises in relations to madness in literature.
Blanche DuBois is an aging Southern debutante. She arrives at her sister s home in New Orleans

Insanity has also been characterized as behaviors that exist outside of patriarchy. To escape a system
that dominates women relies on her losing her inner most femaleness, therefore repressing their true
womanhood. For example, Blanche is obsessed with the idea of being pure. The southern bell persona
is an act, she lies about how much she drinks. She lies about her background and tries to make herself
appear pristine. Blanche s eccentric behavior is the root of her lies. She recognizes that her behavior is
eccentric, but doesn t want other people to look at her in a negative light. This attitude only promotes
her delusional behavior. She is consumed with being something other than herself. Insanity has also
been use to define women who resist patriarchy. Wallace states, insane female characters as women
who were labeled insane because they were a threat to the dominant culture. (302) This is the case of

Understanding And Managing The Generational Gap
Understanding and Managing the Generational Gap Julie Boyer Professor Crystal O Brien BUSN 105
26 November, 2016
Understanding and Managing the Generational Gap The workforce is seeing up to five generations
working together for the first time in history. People are choosing to work longer and delay retirement.
Ultimately, the workforce could experience up to six generations working together. It s the role of
business leaders to embrace diversity and guide their teams to cohesion. Generational gaps can pose
challenges in the workplace, but understanding each generation s unique characteristics and skills sets
will assist in effectively managing diversity to keep a peaceful coexistence. The current generations in
the workplace today are Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z.
Each generation brings their own values and mindsets to the mix. Although genetics play a part in a
person s characteristics, the generation in which someone is born into also plays an integral part in
shaping their mind, values, goals, and work ethics. People from the same generation share similar
experiences, and this can influence how they think politically and socially. The task at hand is for
management to understand each generation s strengths and weaknesses, and

The Past Semester A Core Class I Took Was Politics Of...
The past semester a core class I took was Politics of Climate Change. I ve learned many new ideas and
concepts about climate change. Now that I am educated on the matter and can form my own opinion, I
was curious about what the people I surround myself with think about climate change. I asked many
different people about their thoughts and opinions on climate change. I questioned my tutors, stem
major friends, my parents, and siblings. I was most interested with what my mother, Oyindamola
Eletu, and my sister, Omobukola Solebo, had to say about this important topic. I was particularly
interested in what my immigrant, democratic, and religious mother would say on the tasking situation.
My sister is a high school biology teacher in California who graduated from TCNJ in 2014 with a
double major in education and biology. After interviewing them both, I began to compare and contrast
their views and how they came to them. Incidentally, the woman of my family all believe that climate
change is real and an important matter at hand. We all think it should be handled and decided on now
and stop being put on the back burner. My mother and sister had similar views but different ways of
getting to that decision. My mom does not particularly like science or take interest in its findings, she
doesn t have a degree from America, and did not learn about climate change growing up. But she
watched what was reported on television and got educated by the things they showed her. She

The L-shaped Room by Lynne Reid Banks Essay
The L shaped Room by Lynne Reid Banks
The narrator s views of social prejudice are conveyed through the experience of Jane the main
character.
My father and I hadn t said a word to each other when I went home for my things. He s told me to go
and I was going; he didn t care where and so why should I tell him?
The above opening quotation is from The L shaped Room written by
Lynne Reid Banks. It captures an insight into the attitudes of the time. The author mainly focuses on
reflecting the journey Jane faces through her unwanted pregnancy, coping with emotional difficulties
and the dilemmas that face her. I feel the novel made me sympathetic towards Jane, as the novel kept
me captivated; with many twists and turns and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet these neighbours eventually draw her back to life.
At the start of the novel Jane realised it was morally wrong in her society to be pregnant but she tries
to be strong to admit the truth to her father:
I m pregnant I said. These two words shocked even me with their crudeness. I instantly wished I d said
the softer I m going to have a baby. The blunt statement of the biological fact had the same after
echoes as a slap across his face.
The writer has made me feel that Jane thought some weight would ease of her mind by being strong
and telling her father, as he may understand as she is the only child with no mother. However the
sharpness of the truth hits Jane at the same time as she admits the truth because she realises she is in
the situation and she is not generally stating something that will have no affect on her. I think the dash
reveals extra feelings, of how she now feels after admitting the truth but in addition to this the
sentence before and after the dash is a vivid contrast. Before the dash it suggests what she said was
simple and straightforward words but it compares the effect of the words after the dash which shows
the words are shocking. Echoes as a slap across the face shows how forceful the words actually
sounded.
This phrase is a simile which compares her words as being worse than a slap. In my opinion the word
choice of echoes expresses how the admittance of the truth must have been a

The Characteristics Of A Twisted Hero
A hero is a person who rises above the ranks of the average individual and is known as one who
achieves great strides as well as lead people to prosperity and greatness. On the contrary, a person who
is twisted is one whom has an abnormal and, in a myriad number of occasions, warped perspective on
reality and morality. When combining these two concepts, what comes out is a Twisted Hero, a person
who brings about times of prosperity and greatness, but does so in a manner akin to that of if one were
to jump into a black hole in space, one will be torn in two with one half being incinerated immediately
and the other half being completely fine falling into the black hole. This is what a twisted hero is
defined as to me, a twisted hero leaves only the outstanding results, but takes out any chance of it
being done righteously. These twisted heroes can be found in the cases of Om a Sokdae and the fifth
grade class, William Tecumseh Sherman with his total war tactics, and my teacher in fourth grade with
her cruel punishments. When examining why Om Sokdae, the class monitor, is the twisted hero of the
fifth grade class, it is important to realize the achievements the class, as a whole, is able to reach when
they listen to him. From their class being seen as the most ideal by the school, having the best grades
and test scores, and the students being seen as the most exemplary it is clear that Om has made great
strides with his leadership position as class monitor.

Pro War in Iraq Essay
Pro War in Iraq
I do not subscribe to the fashionable notion of moral equivalence between all deeply held beliefs. I
believe in the rights of the individual over the collective. I believe democracy is better than
dictatorship, both morally and practically. Not necessarily democracy as we or the Americans or the
French practice it, but the idea that in every possible practical way, you should let people make their
own decisions, and if these decisions need to be circumscribed in any way, then you should only do it
with the explicit approval of a majority of the people in question. And above all that a people must be
able to change governments and leaders without resorting to force. So my ongoing position is that I

The damning picture of the state of the Arab world painted in this UN report cannot be blamed on
America, or Israel, or global capitalism. The blame lies squarely with the dictators under whom the
Arab people have suffered, who have over a long period stolen and squandered the region s wealth,
just as Communist apparatchiks did under the Soviet system. How do they get away with it? Why do
the people themselves not rise up? The aspect dictatorship which gets most attention is the brutal
suppression of domestic dissent, for which you need to take over the organs of internal security. But
you cannot just plant yourself as a dictatorship and suck the wealth out of a country or a people.
Dictatorship too is an eco system. You need a way of legitimizing your rule in the minds of a section
of the population, and someone to blame for all of the evils for which evidence emerges. Once you
have these things, you are in business with a nice, self sustaining little earner. Other dictators tap into
other vulnerable beliefs among their people to give them a veil of credibility. It might be nationalism,
anti Semitism, feelings of angst and inadequacy. In the case of most Arab dictators, it happens to be
Islam. Islam contains a number of features that can be easily hijacked by unscrupulous leaders: the
disrespect for non believers, the basis for non independent religious courts, the concept of jihad, and
the belief in the afterlife.

Definition Of Learning Management System
Learning Management system In General Computer s applications of education is filled with generic
terms such as computer based instruction (CBI), computer assisted instruction (CAI), and computer
assisted learning (CAL), generally describing drill and practice programs, more sophisticated tutorials,
and more individualized instructions, respectively. LMS has its history in another term, integrated
learning system (ILS) which offers additional functionality beyond instructional content such as
management and tracking, more personalized instruction, and integration across the system. The term
ILS was originally coined by Jostens Learning, and LMS was originally used to describe the
management system part of the many learning systems, content free and separate from the courseware.
The term LMS is currently used to describe a number of different educational computer applications.

Negative Effects Of Social Media On Teenagers
Social media has a negative impact on teenagers
Teens spend hours and hours of their day on social media. Studies show that an average teen spends
roughly about 27 hours a week on the internet. A majority of people today use at least one form of
social media; it has it s positives, there are lots of things good about social media sharing photos and
videos with your friends, getting to talk with people you know, seeing what other people are doing.
Then there is the questions, is social media is putting too much pressure on society? Does social media
ruin our connection/relationship with people offline? Do people feel like they need to change to fit in
with what they see online?
Lets look at ways that social media could be putting too much pressure on society: models who post
photos in small amounts of clothing showing off their perfect figures or beauty bloggers who spend
hundred of pounds on make up to change the way their face looks completely. Most of the time what
we see on social media is very different to what is behind the screen; most teens don t consider this.
Often teens feel like they have to change the way they look or keep up with popular trends just to feel
like they are good enough. Teens scroll through their phone for ages looking at other peoples posts
thinking wow their so pretty or they have such an exiting life , this can make teens feel like they need
to live up to the standard of there internet role models. People create a false version of

A Pair Of Silk Stockings Analysis
Staying strong and committed in family matters is a big deal, especially when there are children that
are being cared for. As we are all affected by human nature, it is hard to do the right thing while trying
to satisfy our desires. There is also the possibility of setting expectations way too high and then ending
up being disappointed in the end. That is what happened to Mrs. Sommers in A Pair of Silk Stockings.
Mrs. Sommers longs for a former life throughout the short story and ultimately shows how selfish
desires can lead to guilt and dissatisfaction.
Mrs. Sommers longs for her former life. When she is given a large amount of money, she finds herself
preoccupied with how she will spend it. She is very excited when she starts thinking of what she could
do with the money and set her expectations high. She is wearied and exhausted from the life of being a
mom and was constantly going through her daily life. But it was during the still hours of the night
when she lay awake revolving plans in her mind that she seemed to see her way clearly toward a
proper and judicious use of the money (Chopin 1). During the evening into the night, it is sometimes
easy for the mind to go in different directions. After a long day, it can lead to being lazy and letting
thoughts go anywhere they want. Mrs. Sommers stresses that it has been too long since she has gotten
anything for herself, since she is constantly providing for her family (Wagner Martin 1). She had
swallowed a light luncheon no! When she came to think of it, between getting the children fed and the
place righted, and preparing herself for the shopping bout, she had actually forgotten to eat any
luncheon at all! (Chopin 1). Her life is very difficult providing for her family, and she needs
something for herself. Little Mrs. Sommers had much better days. On impulse, however, this long
deprived woman spends all the money on herself, striving for one day at least of self indulgence, one
day that might hint of some personal autonomy in a pinched and narrowed existence (Stein 1). Mrs.
Sommers begins to be tempted when she plans to go out shopping for her kids. By degrees she grew
aware that her hand had encountered something very soothing, very pleasant to

Religion in the Ramayana plays a key role in the plot. Religious principles such as Karma and

religion influences the roles of the characters and the challenges they face throughout the story. Karma

Ravana uses prayer to gain power; With this power, he attempts to destroy all worlds and enslave the
gods. The ten headed Ravana and his brothers have acquired from us extraordinary powers through
austerities and prayers, and now they threaten to destroy our worlds and enslave us (Narayan 4).
Ravana is impacted by prayer as he uses this to gain powerful weapons from the gods. This impacts
his life as he misuses the power and the gods need to stop him. This also impacts Rama as he
incarnated because of this. Without the use of prayer to the gods in the Ramayana, Rama would not
exist and Ravana would not have the powerful weapons he does. The gods need to stop Ravana before
the worlds are destroyed and Vishnu creates a plan. The gods gather and create a plan to have Vishnu
incarnate as Rama to kill Ravana. Whereupon Vishnu promised, Ravana can be destroyed only by a
human being since he has never asked for protection against a human being. I shall incarnate as
Dasaratha s son (Narayan 4). Ravana not only gains power through prayer, but the gods find a solution
in what he does not pray for. If Ravana prays for protection from humans, Rama is not incarnated
because Vishnu cannot kill him as a human. Therefore, without Ravana s prayer to the gods, Rama is

Essay on Profiling and Airport Security
The world is living in a post 9/11 era. Since that September day, security measures have heightened
and extra precautions are in place to prevent something of that nature from happening again. The
terrorists involved in 9/11 appeared to be shockingly similar to a typical American Citizen. However,
their behaviors from that week prior were alarming. Examining the terrorists who have become more
prevalent in the last twenty years, there are several things in common with all of them. Their profiles
all have similar characteristics, not necessarily racial but largely behavioral. To address this, the

Some experts view racial profiling as a disgrace to our civil liberties. Professor of law, Patricia J.
Williams claims that racial profiling violates our personal civil liberties and that it cannot prove itself
effective against terrorists. She argues that terrorists will do whatever it takes to ensure they cannot be
classified physically as terrorists by changing their appearance (172). As we saw in the attacks on
September 11, 2001, the terrorists modified their appearance to blend in with the average American
citizen. The New York City police commissioner, Raymond Kelly, noted Look at the 9/11 hijackers.
They came here. They shaved. They went to topless bars. They wanted to blend in. They wanted to
look like they were a part of the American dream... (Harcourt 3) That demonstrates a clear examples
of how racial profiling does not work effectively by itself. While the suspect s race may play part in
why they are detained, it should not be the reason security officers do so. Behavioral profiling may be
the solution to the problem of protecting civil liberties and successfully securing airports. Behavioral
profiling uses mostly psychological and behavioral traits in detecting abnormal demeanors. Trained
professionals observe crowds of people and watch for certain tendencies with their body language. A
person s body language can set off many red

The Communist Manifesto By Sigmund Freud
Sigmund Freud, was a neurologist that mainly focused on psychoanalytical theories for psychology.
His most famous research was done during the late 19th and early 20th century, in which during this
time he wrote one of his most famous works Civilization and Its Discontents. In this book of his,
Freud manages to draw on many Enlightenment ideals and challenges some of these notions through
his theoretical analysis on the subconscious mind. In this book of his, Freud proposes that individual s
minds are divided into three distinct parts comprised of the ego, super ego, and the id. In his analysis
on these three parts of the mind, Freud encourageous individuals to regard their mind in emotional
qualities that are characterized by the id, ego, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this paper of his, Marx tackles many Enlightenment ideals but also challenges many with his
analysis on class struggle (bourgeoisie vs. working class), capitalism, and the development of society
as a result of these struggles. Marx s main proposal in The Communist Manifesto is that of historical
materialism , which is basically self divided into two parts: historically and materialistic. Historically,
Marx defines history as a change from the past to present in which the present relies on analysis of the
past to ensure progress. Furthermore, Marx regards that relations in the past have continually been
subject to historical change consequent upon the change in historical conditions .7 The analysis of the
past is consequent with the present as it is dependent with progress. Without analyzing the past, Marx
is stating that society in general will not learn from the class struggles that so aptly occupied society
during that time. The materialistic aspect of this, is prominent through Marx s explanation that the
economy of a society does not necessarily lead to distress and chaos in society, furthermore the
economy of a society is not to blame. In many ways Marx says that following every historical period,
the prevailing mode of economic production and exchange, and the social organization necessarily
following from it, form the basis upon which it is built up [...] .8

Farnesyl transferase (FTPase) inhibitors Manumycin is a specific FTPase inhibitors who had
antineoplastic activity inhibiting RAS signal transduction pathway and inducing apoptosis, but due to
its significant toxicity, it had not reached the clinical sitting with limited benefit as a single agent. The
combination of sorafenib and tipifarnib were evaluated in phase I trial in MTC [44]. m TOR inhibitors
Preclinical data suggest that m TOR inhibitors may have efficacy in inhibiting TC cell growth,
survival and dissemination as the AKT/m TOR/p56 pathway activation is stronger in lymphatic and
distant metastatic lesions than in 1 year TC cell lines. However, the clinical activity in this patient
population needs further investigations [45]. Gene and immune therapy Three types of gene therapy
have been investigated in TCs, corrective gene therapy, cytoreductive gene therapy and
immunomodulatory gene therapy. The studies revealed that gene therapy can give the way for the
development of a highly promising cytoreductive gene therapy strategy. In addition, immunotherapy

Why Is Beowulf So Famous
The story Beowulf takes place of some interesting things. In this story you will meet many different
and interesting people. This book is very fun to read. Scyld of Scefing the first king of the Danes and
great grandfather to Hrothgar. Scefing was a very brave king. Hrothgar was also a really barve king.
He has been giving to the people since his dad was alive. The main reason Hrothgar was so famous is
because he built a mead hall. He named that mead hall Heorot. This mead hall attracted so many
people. Grendel was the beast that attacked the mead hall. One night while everyone was celebrating
the mead hall and singing about God and how God created the world, Grendel got mad. Grendel is

Does Tea Stain Your Teeth Research Paper
Does Tea Stain Your Teeth?
The tannin in drinks such as coffee, tea, and coca cola gets stuck in your teeth and make stains. Tannin
is a yellowish brown substance that is a type of acid. This acid will make your teeth change into a
different color such as yellow or brown. Teeth stains occur more often when you are drinking black or
dark colored drinks because the darkness of the drinks get embedded in your teeth. There are two
types of teeth stains, extrinsic and intrinsic. Extrinsic is when the outer layer of the tooth stains and
intrinsic when the inner structure of the tooth turns a faint yellow.
The staining of teeth from coffee, tea, and soda doesn t happen overnight. According to a HuffPost

The Muscular Dystrophy Was First Discovered By Guillaume...
Duchenne muscular dystrophy was first discovered by Guillaume Benjamin Amand Duchenne in the
1860 s, but due to lack of medical knowledge little was known until the 1980 s. It was in 1986 that
researchers that were supported by the MDA, muscular dystrophy association, identified the particular
X chromosome that leads to DMD, Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Dystrophin is the protein that is
associated with the gene and was named in 1987.The DMD gene is the second largest gene to date,
and it produces dystrophin.(Genome, 2013) Lack of the protein Dystrophin in the muscle cells causes
them to weaken and become fragile. (MDA, 2015). DMD is an inherited disorder, but there are rare
cases where it can spontaneously appear in a child with no previous family history due to a random
mutation in moms X chromosome. DMD is a gender specific disease that only appears in males.
Females are carriers in their X Chromosome and they have the chance of passing the disease on to
their children, 50 50 to a girl and 50 50 to a boy. If the girl does receive the gene she becomes a
carrier. If the boy gets the gene then he has the disease. Males do not pass on the gene to their children
because they pass on the Y chromosome and the disease is X specific. Some female carriers have
indicators of being a carrier by having symptoms of cardiomyopathy, shortness of breath during
exercise, and muscle weakness in the back, arms, and legs. There have been very rare instances where

Women s Role During The Civil Rights Movement
Women s status has changed dramatically over the years in the U.S. When the nation was first
established, women had no rights. They were not even considered legal citizens until 1868. Their role
was being in the home, also known as cooking, cleaning, etc. They had absolutely no power. Women
have fought for everything they have achieved in the past and continue to fight today for gender
equality.
The 1970s were the main part of the women s revolution; Title IX was born. Before this was made,
there was a lot of discrimination in sports. Female athletes first became noticed by the nation during
World War II. Since the baseball players were away fighting, women stepped up and formed the All
American Girls Baseball League in 1943. After the war, women s sports organizations continued to
grow. Women became curious of what else they could accomplish in the world. The push for their
rights truly began during the Civil Rights Movements in the 1960s.
Title IX was signed in 1972 by President Nixon. Before Title IX, funding for women s athletics were
practically nonexistent at most coeducational colleges and universities. Due to the lack of support,
only sixteen percent of college athletes were women. Title IX has increased this number to forty
percent. Although the law has progressed the women s rights movement, it took a few years to develop
its reputation. The first time the words Title IX were heard nationally, was in 1976. The New York
Times wrote an article

Importance Of The Second Amendment
The Second Amendment is making headlines these days. The Second Amendment states, A well
regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and
bear Arms, shall not be infringed. This Amendment was ratified in December of 1791. This
amendment was proposed by James Madison, after the constitution was ratified. James Madison
originally proposed the Second Amendment shortly after the Constitution was officially ratified as a
way to provide more power to state militias... (Brooks, The Second Amendment and the Right to Bear
Arms) The latest court case on the Second Amendment is the Peruta v. California case . But that was
turned down the case. The Second Amendment is important because it provides self defense, enables
U.S. citizens to hunt for food, and it allows for citizens of states in the U.S. to form militias. The
Second Amendment is important because it provides self defense to American citizens. In some states,
like Arizona, you can carry a gun around without a permit, if you re an adult. But if someone wants to
have his or hers gun concealed, then they are required to have a permit. Forty two states generally
require a state issued permit in order to carry concealed weapons in public ( CCW permit). (Hardy,

The T-34 Research Paper
The tank was one of the deadliest weapons in World War 2. Over 331,000 tanks were produced during
the war. Most of the countries fighting in the war had tanks, including the British, Americans,
Germans, and the Soviets. All of these countries had tanks that outperformed their other tanks, and
that outperformed the other countries tanks. One of these was the Soviet s T 34.
The T 34 was created to replace the BT series of fast, lightweight tanks. The Soviet realized the BT s
weakness in battle and requested its official replacement in 1937, two years before World War Two.
The T 34 became the most produced tank in the war and is considered to be one of the best tanks in
the war. Jason Belcourt, talking about the T 34, said In 1941 when Hitler launched Barbarossa, the
tank was indisputably the best in the world. The T 34 was able to stop the German advancement into
the Soviet Union and save the country. The T 34 had some flaws though. The sloping armor of the T
34 provided safety from the weak 40 mm guns of the Germans, but the armor made the quarters
cramped and the working conditions poor. To go along with the small size of the tank, the technology
was very outdated. To communicate with the other tanks, a flag system would have to be used. The

Santa Ana Winds Comparison Rhetorical Analysis
The Santa Ana Winds The Santa Ana by Joan Didion and Brush Fire by Linda Thomas offer complete
separate views to a similar topic, the winds of Southern California. In a first person narration the
authors write of the wind from her own experience of living in California and from her own
perspective, shedding light on two very different aspects of the Santa Ana winds.
Physically, both pieces of literature are different. Each story reflects its own writer as The Santa Ana
has lengthy paragraphs, chock full of information. Didion is an American Author known for her
literary journalism and use of logos. At a glance of the piece, it lists of reasonings and details is clearly

Didion personifies the wind as almost an unknown epidemic. Similar to when an unknown disease
goes viral, all walks of life are affected. Didion clearly states how teachers, students, doctors, to
physicists, to generally everyone becomes unhappy and uncomfortable during the winds. She does not
write of how the wind caused fire to ravage the shrublands, but she writes of the symptoms it inflicts
on the people. Didion mentions all the after effects of the wind and the harm it can do like inflict
paranoia. She mentions how the fear stricken victims of southern California are paranoid like her
neighbor that refuses to leave the house and her husband who roams with a machete. Didion s
personification of the wind focuses on a fearful and distant light. In contrast, Thomas approaches the
Santa Ana winds as a routinely destructive awe. Though Thomas focuses more on the fire caused by
the wind, then the wind itself, Thomas casts a soft light on the winds. She believes that the winds are
not destructive, but that humans are and the winds only do what they must. She and her neighbors
gather around and watch the brushfire destroy a hill in the distance, a casual pastime like watching
stars. Thomas casually explains in paragraph three of Brush Fire , the burning of chaparral during
these winds is normal . She implies that the winds cause of destroying the Southern California land is
natural, a simple part of nature. Thomas does not fear the winds like Didion, she admires the

Beer Novembert Law Lab Report
Using the Beer Lambert Law, it can be interpreted that variation of the concentration in relation to the
constant and the path length of the cuvette will be the sole factor in changing the absorption rate of a
solution, since the length of the cuvette remains 1 cm throughout the duration of the experiment. A
calibration curve that compares the values for the absorbances and the concentrations of the yellow
and blue dye can be found in figures 1 and 2 respectively.
Figure 1. Shows the calibration curve for the absorption relative to the concentration (M) of the yellow

As with the yellow dye, it was observed that there was no connection to be made between the
absorption and the wavelength. Nevertheless, it was identified that the statistics we received regarding
our wavelength did not emulate that which was found with many of the other groups during the
experiment. Our wavelength remained consistent throughout the dilution of the substance, while
others found that the wavelength decreased as did the concentration of their solution. This brings up
the question of whether diluting a substance will affect the wavelength at which it will reach its peak
absorption. It has already been concluded that concentration and absorption are inversely proportional,
but the relationship the wavelength is intended to have is not addresses. As one dilutes a solution, the
overall volume of water present increases. But, as water is clear, it does not have a position on the
color wheel, and a direct estimation of the wavelength at which it reaches its peak wavelength cannot
be determined based on current data. However, as we were the only ones that obtained a consistent
wavelength regardless of the concentration, it can inferred that there was likely some type of error.
Initial thoughts lead to it the most likely source being systematic error with the UV VIS spectrometer,
as the only possible source of personal error that could have lead to these results would be

The Payment Of Dividends And The Issue Of Shares
The payment of dividends and the issue of shares in return for capital investment are important aspects
of company law. As such, there are certain requirements that must be met in order for both shares and
dividends to be lawfully issued. These requirements are located within the company s articles and
statute. The Company s articles operate as contract between the company and its members and outline
the requirements that the directors must follow in order for a transaction to be lawful.

This is supported by statute which allows directors to issue share capital provided this is sanctioned by
the articles. It is possible for the articles of the company to permit different classes of share to be
offered and thus enable preferential shares to be offered to Mrs Donald and the Model Articles clearly
does this within article 22. There are however, certain caveats in respect of the rights of the existing
members which can restrict this provision. The CA gives existing shareholders a right of pre emption
as a means of preventing their voting power from being diluted by the allotment of new shares if the
issue is of ordinary shares.
Section 561 determines that existing members must be offered on the same or more favourable terms a
proportion of the proposed issue equal to the proportion of shares held by the member. The offer must
be made to the existing member in writing and must allow at least 14 days for the offer to be accepted
or declined. Contravention of this requirement could render the officer(s) involved and the company
jointly and severally liable to the member for any loss suffered or expense incurred by their failure to
meet this requirement. However section 563 CA does not result in an invalidation of the allotment in
the event that it was done infringing section 561 or 662 CA.

The Experience Economy On The Hospitality Industry
The Hospitality Industry is an industry that relies greatly on the Experience Economy. Today,
receiving the product is no longer satisfactory to customers, and they need more than just the product,
and that is where the Experience Economy comes into play. In this paper, the Experience Economy
will be discussed and described. The discussion includes facts such as the introduction of the
Experience Economy by Pine and Gilmore. In addition, an analysis on the impact that the Experience
Economy has had on the Hospitality Industry will addressed, incorporating key concepts such as
modern management, soft skills, and emotional experience.
Since the 1950 s, the world s economy has gone through several changes, from an agrarian economy
to an industrial economy, then to a service based economy and then to the experience economy. The
term Experience Economy was first introduced by Joseph Pine and James Gilmore in 1999. The
concept is that goods and services are no longer enough for consumers that businesses must create
memorable events and experiences that capture their audience and create experiences that transform
their brand s value proposition. (Frias, 2014) Despite being introduced in 1999, the concept of the
Experience Economy has already existed in some extablishments to gain a large and growing
customer base. The Hospitality Industry is an example of this. For example, on July 17th, 1955, the
pioneer of the Experience Economy, as Pine calls him, Walt Disney

The Advertising Strategy Of The Advertising Campaign For...
One think as parents worry about; well great parents, is about their kids safely and wellbeing. Parents
aren t constantly watching their teens/tweens daily actively. Like many other parents, we trust that our
kids are doing the right thing. Failure not check, could cause you your teen/tweens, lost in a world full
of inappropriate data usage. One of the greatest electronic company LG conducted a campaign in
hopes to changing teens mindset or attitude as it relates to inappropriate use of communication

Mobile. Foremost, the product has specified that the purpose of the great movement is to growth their
product worth and inspire teens and tweens to relate with their brand which is the LG Mobile phone
product, though concurrently rising awareness around possible insensible actions such as mean or

social sites platforms or networks. This type of marketing would be most beneficial advertising
approach, and more importantly it could cost them less money than advertising through television.
With so many ways to network among tweens/teens and adults, Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram are
the ones that teens really gravitate to. Twitter currently have over 328 million active users, which rank
them 9th within the social network industry. Although it has little message capabilities, it seems to be
popular. Teens at times have very little attention span and this is primary the reason that teens are

Dialogue And Authentic Dialogue
Authentic Dialogue When it comes to communicating with people, I do not have a hard time.
Although, this past fall semester I was put to the test. There was a student in our Dialogue and
Personality class that was, difficult. This caused the dynamic in class to be very off putting and hard to
communicate in. He was angry, negative and wasn t afraid to bring the class down with his negative
attitude. This is one example out of many how dialogue can be hard when you are dealing with
conflict. That being said, I would love to talk more about how conflict in dialogue can effect
conversation, how I have experienced authentic dialogue, as well as breaking down if authentic
dialogue was supported within my experiences. To begin, I would like to talk a little bit more about
conflict.
Conflict can be seen in many different situations in dialogue. It is important to be aware of signs so
that you can handle the situation properly. When there is conflict in dialogue it can hinder any
progress to be made within the conversation. Some things that may hinder dialogue are close minded
people, judgment, lack of empathy and people being attacked and blamed. All of these things our class
experienced with our former classmate. I remember the first class hoping he would drop because the
class environment was that uncomfortable. I think that shows that even how well you try to facilitate
or deal with conflict, sometimes its extremely difficult to find a resolution. Granted, our professor did

People choose to turn to meals that are already prepared for them instead of paying more money and
spending more time cooking meals using healthier ingredients. Fast food restaurants are known for
creating fast service and big meals for low prices which entices customers to buy more of their food
because it doesn t require any work on the customer s behalf to be able to feed their families. Fixing
this bad habit in most Americans households would require a change in the prices of fruits and
vegetables giving the ability for anyone and everyone to be able to buy fresh produce from grocery

Examples Of Justice In No Country For Old Men
In the novel No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy, there is a battle between two versions of
justice. In typical western narratives, the Sheriff is the strong hero who perseveres through battle with
the antagonist, and the good guys always win. However, this novel disrupts this usual ending with the
introduction of a unique antagonist, Chigurh. Chigurh breaks the mold of the typical old western
villain in how he manages to outsmart the law and escape. His escape is a disastrous blow to the
system of justice the Sheriff has spent his life trying to maintain. Through this, the author displays a
twisted, unhappy version of justice in Chigurh and how it compares to Sheriff Bell s typical, objective
notion of justice on the western frontier. This interpretation showcases that sometimes justice is not
between only good and bad, and good does not necessarily always win. With its alternative versions of
justice, the novel illustrates the changing morality of the western frontier, the weakness of moral
driven justice and how these opposing views create individual interpretations of justice compared to
an objective standard.
The Sheriff can be characterized as the hero of this novel. As a law enforcement official, he represents
an objective, straightforward idea of justice. This point of view sees justice as black and white: there

quickly setup, and knock down any blockers slowing them down.
Recruiting stepped up and sourced 5 of the 7 resources within three weeks and my RIMM Team with
the addition of these 5 resources and the shadowing from the customers tier 3 engineers were able to
successfully come up to speed and deliver on this new service. I had a complete team of 7 resources
before the end of the first 30 days.
This became a great win for Pomeroy and for the Customer. For the Customer, we were offering a tier
2 level Service at a tier 3 three price point, well under their original T1 provider in this space. We were
able to deliver through my Team the quality and speed that they wanted in responding to alerts and
issues, with an expanded Team being able to share the work across my full RIMM Team and over the

The Crime Scene Investigation Training
The Crime Scene Investigation Training Report includes a brief outline of two training modules: Hair
and Crime Scene Training Blood Crime Scene Training. These modules provide Crime Scene
Investigation trainees with the adequate information they need to prepare them to know what to look
for when looking for blood and hair samples at a crime scene. This also instructs the trainee the
significance of how to avoid tampering with evidence and how to properly collect a sample. The men
and women trainees have classroom tutorials on the subject as well as a hands on interactive tour of a
real life crime scene and how to collect samples. These modules are helpful to the trainees, because
they provide the knowledge to identify and collect evidence at a real life crime scene, supervised by
experienced investigators Detective Gates and Morgan. The videos and real life case trainings are
necessary for the trainees to properly know how to handle evidence and their surroundings during an
investigation. Trainees need classroom as well as hands on training, when learning how to handle
items on investigations. There are several important techniques in how to properly and correctly
handle evidence on an investigation. I will discuss the method, training techniques and reason for the
CSI training.

Argumentative Essay
1 December 2017
Jayber Crow
Slowly, patiently, the observer becomes the participant; a cub hunting for its first meal. Have you ever
come across a friend like this? This friend often being reserved and standoffish then turning into a
pariah? Jonah Crow, an orphan at the age of ten grew up in the face of adversity he knew the feelings
of loneliness and want; seeing as his mother, father, aunt and uncle died leaving him helpless at an
orphanage in the town of Port William, Kentucky. This is a book about Heaven, or the fact that Jayber
could actually be living in a hell where the participants fail to love one another, where they hate and
destroy the objects and people they love, everything done is done ... Show more content on

He was intermittent, always moving frantically from task to task, building his empire purely on
money, which entirely meant an empire built on his debt, which, again, means an empire built on
accountability which Troy was not. An agribusinessman is a person who works in or manages an
agricultural business. During the time Jayber Crow existed agriculture was all the rage. Family farms
made up 40% of the American workforce. Readers could see why family farming was so important.
So why would people want to bring in top gun machinery and ruin the land for future crops? For
money and growth of themselves, not for the farming industry because in the late 1900s farming
dropped from 40% to a glum 4.6%. Agribusiness arrives and begins to slowly tear apart small farms in
Jayber Crow s world. Even in today s society big businesses tower in our economy. It seems that
agriculture is not given any thought when it comes to making a profit and this tremendous defect in
humans is another reason people can not live just to please and benefit themselves.
People who live to help people and become saints of the land and vow to protect it are the people who
made the land last. Mattie Keith, Troy Chatham s wife is an example of giving with no purpose to
receive unlike big agribusiness men. Jayber several times throughout the novel expresses his great
love for Mattie but what strikes Jayber like a is the fear that he and Troy are the same man

  • 2. Raymond Carver and his Works Part 2 I personally believe that with any story told or movie made that you have to creator s life to see where the story actually comes from. No matter what we do in life we all as human beings find a way to show what we have been through in our lives. Raymond Carver was no different just he had a really tough road that he traveled and it showed in his stories. According to an interview with William, Stull in Matters of Life Death: An Interview with Raymond Carver Carver also understood that his life showed through in his work, Wolff said in a review of my first book of stories that he felt he could pick out a story of mine without seeing my name attached to it. I took that as a compliment. If you can find an author s fingerprints on the work, you can tell it s his and no other s. (Stull 14 17) Carver s life bled through his work and in The Bath we can see this. In The Bath we have a couple dealing with the accident their son had been in and it seemed to push them apart more than they already were. The fact of the couple losing touch with each other managed to transcend the story into Carver s real life, Carver s marriage to his first wife Maryann. But instead of an accident pushing Raymond and Maryann apart, it was Raymond s addiction to Alcohol and the problems that came with his addiction. According to Abby, Werlock in The Facts on File Companion to the American Short Story Carver s alcohol addiction was spiraling out of control and was poised to take ... She played an important role in his inner circle and as a loyal supporter. In the end, what was behind their suicides? Little information is known about Eva s childhood. Hitler and Eva meet in Munich in 1929 when she was a model and assistant to Hitler s personal photographer. She was 17 years old when they met. About two years later they started to see each other more and more. They were rarely seen together in public and didn t get married until the last 40 hours of their lives. The article Eva Braun says: She entered his household in 1936, although their relationship was kept secret (P.1). Many people believe that the relationship was just for show, but Hitler s long time secretary, Christa Schroeder, admitted in an interrogation in 1945 that Hitler had treated Braun as his wife. ... Görtemaker, a German historian and author, he states in, She Was Not A Passive Bystander, that Eva became a well known person in Hitler s inner circle. But the sources available now show that Eva Braun has to be seen as part of Hitler s inner circle and not apart from it. Her life should not be called lost or tragic. • 4. Struggles of the Dalit Movement in Anand Patwardhan’s... On the morning of 11th July, 1997, at Ramabai Colony in Mumbai, garland of slippers is seen on the statue of Dr. Ambedkar. Soon upset Dalits gather to protest against the sacrilege. Within a few hours, a police van reaches the spot and starts to fire. They fire at people who weren t even protesting, killing ten people on the spot. Vilas Ghogre, a Dalit Marxist poet and singer, moved by the incident to such an extent that he committed suicide. Anand Patwardhan s documentary Jai Bhim Comrade is about Dalit movement and struggle for recognition of their identity and acceptance of their existence within socio politico economic milieu. The three hour long movie covers the time period of fourteen years, incorporating layered, personal narratives of Dalits, their aspirations and their desire to achieve what Ambedkar said in his one of the most radical texts The Annihilation of Caste , to dismantle the caste system. The film provides an insight into the cruelty and discrimination against Dalits, which has been naturalized and institutionalized within our so called progressive Hindu society. Patvardhan is trying to situate various personal narratives within the larger narrative of Dalit resistance and struggle. I personally found the movie extremely strong, which renders the audience literally speechless. It shakes one s entire belief system and forces one to interrogate various pockets of society which collectively form the society as it is. The movie turns the notion of ... • 5. Causes Of Fear Of Crime Gilchrist et al (1998, pg283) explains that the fear of crime has become a phenomenon and one that will be discussed within this journal review exploring whether or not women s fear is rational or not. McLaughlin (2001) cited in Kinsella, C (2005) defines fear of crime as ...a rational or irrational state of alarm or anxiety engendered by the belief that one is in danger of criminal victimisation . Campbell (2005, pg120) explains that due to social political mobility, women s fear of rape is heightened, thus women are dependent on men to protect them from other men, however, it has been shown that family members and close friends are normally the rapists. Alongside this, Campbell (2005, pg121) continues to explain that through a criminological and victimological viewpoint, the institutional, political and cultural surroundings additionally express that women are more at risk than men. The British Crime Survey contributes further evidence of women being assaulted by men they know as the survey showed that 32% of women were sexually assaulted by a partner compared to 8% by strangers. Gilchrist et al (1998, pg284) explains that with a low crime threat, women still have an irrational response. However, feminist writers explain that this could be due to the fact that women suffer sexual harassment and have less control over their space than men do, thus the higher fear levels. Furthermore, Gilchrist (1998, pg285) tells us that women are are not hysterically overreacting to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Past Semester A Core Class I Took Was Politics Of... The past semester a core class I took was Politics of Climate Change. I ve learned many new ideas and concepts about climate change. Now that I am educated on the matter and can form my own opinion, I was curious about what the people I surround myself with think about climate change. I asked many different people about their thoughts and opinions on climate change. I questioned my tutors, stem major friends, my parents, and siblings. I was most interested with what my mother, Oyindamola Eletu, and my sister, Omobukola Solebo, had to say about this important topic. I was particularly interested in what my immigrant, democratic, and religious mother would say on the tasking situation. My sister is a high school biology teacher in California who graduated from TCNJ in 2014 with a double major in education and biology. After interviewing them both, I began to compare and contrast their views and how they came to them. Incidentally, the woman of my family all believe that climate change is real and an important matter at hand. We all think it should be handled and decided on now and stop being put on the back burner. My mother and sister had similar views but different ways of getting to that decision. My mom does not particularly like science or take interest in its findings, she doesn t have a degree from America, and did not learn about climate change growing up. But she watched what was reported on television and got educated by the things they showed her. She experienced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My father and I hadn t said a word to each other when I went home for my things. He s told me to go and I was going; he didn t care where and so why should I tell him? The above opening quotation is from The L shaped Room written by Lynne Reid Banks. It captures an insight into the attitudes of the time. The author mainly focuses on reflecting the journey Jane faces through her unwanted pregnancy, coping with emotional difficulties and the dilemmas that face her. I feel the novel made me sympathetic towards Jane, as the novel kept me captivated; with many twists and turns and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet these neighbours eventually draw her back to life. At the start of the novel Jane realised it was morally wrong in her society to be pregnant but she tries to be strong to admit the truth to her father: I m pregnant I said. These two words shocked even me with their crudeness. I instantly wished I d said the softer I m going to have a baby. The blunt statement of the biological fact had the same after echoes as a slap across his face. The writer has made me feel that Jane thought some weight would ease of her mind by being strong and telling her father, as he may understand as she is the only child with no mother. However the sharpness of the truth hits Jane at the same time as she admits the truth because she realises she is in the situation and she is not generally stating something that will have no affect on her. I think the dash reveals extra feelings, of how she now feels after admitting the truth but in addition to this the sentence before and after the dash is a vivid contrast. Before the dash it suggests what she said was simple and straightforward words but it compares the effect of the words after the dash which shows the words are shocking. Echoes as a slap across the face shows how forceful the words actually sounded. This phrase is a simile which compares her words as being worse than a slap. In my opinion the word choice of echoes expresses how the admittance of the truth must have been a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Characteristics Of A Twisted Hero A hero is a person who rises above the ranks of the average individual and is known as one who achieves great strides as well as lead people to prosperity and greatness. On the contrary, a person who is twisted is one whom has an abnormal and, in a myriad number of occasions, warped perspective on reality and morality. When combining these two concepts, what comes out is a Twisted Hero, a person who brings about times of prosperity and greatness, but does so in a manner akin to that of if one were to jump into a black hole in space, one will be torn in two with one half being incinerated immediately and the other half being completely fine falling into the black hole. This is what a twisted hero is defined as to me, a twisted hero leaves only the outstanding results, but takes out any chance of it being done righteously. These twisted heroes can be found in the cases of Om a Sokdae and the fifth grade class, William Tecumseh Sherman with his total war tactics, and my teacher in fourth grade with her cruel punishments. When examining why Om Sokdae, the class monitor, is the twisted hero of the fifth grade class, it is important to realize the achievements the class, as a whole, is able to reach when they listen to him. From their class being seen as the most ideal by the school, having the best grades and test scores, and the students being seen as the most exemplary it is clear that Om has made great strides with his leadership position as class monitor. ... The damning picture of the state of the Arab world painted in this UN report cannot be blamed on America, or Israel, or global capitalism. The blame lies squarely with the dictators under whom the Arab people have suffered, who have over a long period stolen and squandered the region s wealth, just as Communist apparatchiks did under the Soviet system. How do they get away with it? Why do the people themselves not rise up? The aspect dictatorship which gets most attention is the brutal suppression of domestic dissent, for which you need to take over the organs of internal security. But you cannot just plant yourself as a dictatorship and suck the wealth out of a country or a people. Dictatorship too is an eco system. You need a way of legitimizing your rule in the minds of a section of the population, and someone to blame for all of the evils for which evidence emerges. Once you have these things, you are in business with a nice, self sustaining little earner. Other dictators tap into other vulnerable beliefs among their people to give them a veil of credibility. It might be nationalism, anti Semitism, feelings of angst and inadequacy. In the case of most Arab dictators, it happens to be Islam. Islam contains a number of features that can be easily hijacked by unscrupulous leaders: the disrespect for non believers, the basis for non independent religious courts, the concept of jihad, and the belief in the afterlife. ... A majority of people today use at least one form of social media; it has it s positives, there are lots of things good about social media sharing photos and videos with your friends, getting to talk with people you know, seeing what other people are doing. Then there is the questions, is social media is putting too much pressure on society? Does social media ruin our connection/relationship with people offline? Do people feel like they need to change to fit in with what they see online? Lets look at ways that social media could be putting too much pressure on society: models who post photos in small amounts of clothing showing off their perfect figures or beauty bloggers who spend hundred of pounds on make up to change the way their face looks completely. Most of the time what we see on social media is very different to what is behind the screen; most teens don t consider this. • 18. A Pair Of Silk Stockings Analysis Staying strong and committed in family matters is a big deal, especially when there are children that are being cared for. As we are all affected by human nature, it is hard to do the right thing while trying to satisfy our desires. There is also the possibility of setting expectations way too high and then ending up being disappointed in the end. That is what happened to Mrs. Sommers in A Pair of Silk Stockings. Mrs. Sommers longs for a former life throughout the short story and ultimately shows how selfish desires can lead to guilt and dissatisfaction. Mrs. Sommers longs for her former life. When she is given a large amount of money, she finds herself preoccupied with how she will spend it. She is very excited when she starts thinking of what she could do with the money and set her expectations high. She is wearied and exhausted from the life of being a mom and was constantly going through her daily life. But it was during the still hours of the night when she lay awake revolving plans in her mind that she seemed to see her way clearly toward a proper and judicious use of the money (Chopin 1). During the evening into the night, it is sometimes easy for the mind to go in different directions. After a long day, it can lead to being lazy and letting thoughts go anywhere they want. Mrs. Sommers stresses that it has been too long since she has gotten anything for herself, since she is constantly providing for her family (Wagner Martin 1). She had swallowed a light luncheon no! When she came to think of it, between getting the children fed and the place righted, and preparing herself for the shopping bout, she had actually forgotten to eat any luncheon at all! (Chopin 1). Her life is very difficult providing for her family, and she needs something for herself. Little Mrs. Sommers had much better days. On impulse, however, this long deprived woman spends all the money on herself, striving for one day at least of self indulgence, one day that might hint of some personal autonomy in a pinched and narrowed existence (Stein 1). The ten headed Ravana and his brothers have acquired from us extraordinary powers through austerities and prayers, and now they threaten to destroy our worlds and enslave us (Narayan 4). Ravana is impacted by prayer as he uses this to gain powerful weapons from the gods. This impacts his life as he misuses the power and the gods need to stop him. This also impacts Rama as he incarnated because of this. Without the use of prayer to the gods in the Ramayana, Rama would not exist and Ravana would not have the powerful weapons he does. Examining the terrorists who have become more prevalent in the last twenty years, there are several things in common with all of them. In this paper of his, Marx tackles many Enlightenment ideals but also challenges many with his analysis on class struggle (bourgeoisie vs. working class), capitalism, and the development of society as a result of these struggles. Marx s main proposal in The Communist Manifesto is that of historical materialism , which is basically self divided into two parts: historically and materialistic. Historically, Marx defines history as a change from the past to present in which the present relies on analysis of the past to ensure progress. Furthermore, Marx regards that relations in the past have continually been subject to historical change consequent upon the change in historical conditions .7 The analysis of the past is consequent with the present as it is dependent with progress. Without analyzing the past, Marx is stating that society in general will not learn from the class struggles that so aptly occupied society during that time. The materialistic aspect of this, is prominent through Marx s explanation that the economy of a society does not necessarily lead to distress and chaos in society, furthermore the economy of a society is not to blame. She and her neighbors gather around and watch the brushfire destroy a hill in the distance, a casual pastime like watching stars. Thomas casually explains in paragraph three of Brush Fire , the burning of chaparral during these winds is normal . She implies that the winds cause of destroying the Southern California land is natural, a simple part of nature. Thomas does not fear the winds like Didion, she admires the ... • 31. Beer Novembert Law Lab Report Using the Beer Lambert Law, it can be interpreted that variation of the concentration in relation to the constant and the path length of the cuvette will be the sole factor in changing the absorption rate of a solution, since the length of the cuvette remains 1 cm throughout the duration of the experiment. A calibration curve that compares the values for the absorbances and the concentrations of the yellow and blue dye can be found in figures 1 and 2 respectively. Figure 1. Shows the calibration curve for the absorption relative to the concentration (M) of the yellow dye Figure 2. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As with the yellow dye, it was observed that there was no connection to be made between the absorption and the wavelength. Nevertheless, it was identified that the statistics we received regarding our wavelength did not emulate that which was found with many of the other groups during the experiment. Our wavelength remained consistent throughout the dilution of the substance, while others found that the wavelength decreased as did the concentration of their solution. This brings up the question of whether diluting a substance will affect the wavelength at which it will reach its peak absorption. It has already been concluded that concentration and absorption are inversely proportional, but the relationship the wavelength is intended to have is not addresses. As one dilutes a solution, the overall volume of water present increases. But, as water is clear, it does not have a position on the color wheel, and a direct estimation of the wavelength at which it reaches its peak wavelength cannot be determined based on current data. However, as we were the only ones that obtained a consistent wavelength regardless of the concentration, it can inferred that there was likely some type of error. Initial thoughts lead to it the most likely source being systematic error with the UV VIS spectrometer, as the only possible source of personal error that could have lead to these results would be ... As such, there are certain requirements that must be met in order for both shares and dividends to be lawfully issued. These requirements are located within the company s articles and statute. The Company s articles operate as contract between the company and its members and outline the requirements that the directors must follow in order for a transaction to be lawful. It is possible for the articles of the company to permit different classes of share to be offered and thus enable preferential shares to be offered to Mrs Donald and the Model Articles clearly does this within article 22. There are however, certain caveats in respect of the rights of the existing members which can restrict this provision. The CA gives existing shareholders a right of pre emption as a means of preventing their voting power from being diluted by the allotment of new shares if the issue is of ordinary shares. Section 561 determines that existing members must be offered on the same or more favourable terms a proportion of the proposed issue equal to the proportion of shares held by the member. The offer must be made to the existing member in writing and must allow at least 14 days for the offer to be accepted or declined. Contravention of this requirement could render the officer(s) involved and the company jointly and severally liable to the member for any loss suffered or expense incurred by their failure to meet this requirement. • 33. The Experience Economy On The Hospitality Industry The Hospitality Industry is an industry that relies greatly on the Experience Economy. Today, receiving the product is no longer satisfactory to customers, and they need more than just the product, and that is where the Experience Economy comes into play. In this paper, the Experience Economy will be discussed and described. The discussion includes facts such as the introduction of the Experience Economy by Pine and Gilmore. In addition, an analysis on the impact that the Experience Economy has had on the Hospitality Industry will addressed, incorporating key concepts such as modern management, soft skills, and emotional experience. Since the 1950 s, the world s economy has gone through several changes, from an agrarian economy to an industrial economy, then to a service based economy and then to the experience economy. The term Experience Economy was first introduced by Joseph Pine and James Gilmore in 1999. The concept is that goods and services are no longer enough for consumers that businesses must create memorable events and experiences that capture their audience and create experiences that transform their brand s value proposition. (Frias, 2014) Despite being introduced in 1999, the concept of the Experience Economy has already existed in some extablishments to gain a large and growing customer base. The Hospitality Industry is an example of this. For example, on July 17th, 1955, the pioneer of the Experience Economy, as Pine calls him, Walt Disney ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There was a student in our Dialogue and Personality class that was, difficult. This caused the dynamic in class to be very off putting and hard to communicate in. He was angry, negative and wasn t afraid to bring the class down with his negative attitude. This is one example out of many how dialogue can be hard when you are dealing with conflict. That being said, I would love to talk more about how conflict in dialogue can effect conversation, how I have experienced authentic dialogue, as well as breaking down if authentic dialogue was supported within my experiences. To begin, I would like to talk a little bit more about conflict. Conflict can be seen in many different situations in dialogue. It is important to be aware of signs so that you can handle the situation properly. When there is conflict in dialogue it can hinder any progress to be made within the conversation. Some things that may hinder dialogue are close minded people, judgment, lack of empathy and people being attacked and blamed. All of these things our class experienced with our former classmate. I remember the first class hoping he would drop because the class environment was that uncomfortable. I think that shows that even how well you try to facilitate or deal with conflict, sometimes its extremely difficult to find a resolution. Granted, our professor did a ... Fast food restaurants are known for creating fast service and big meals for low prices which entices customers to buy more of their food because it doesn t require any work on the customer s behalf to be able to feed their families. Fixing this bad habit in most Americans households would require a change in the prices of fruits and vegetables giving the ability for anyone and everyone to be able to buy fresh produce from grocery stores and make it easier for everyone or helping people choose the way of making a fresh and healthy meal for their families instead of providing the meals given through drive thru windows. In the situation of trying to make the prices of fresh produce cheaper and helping adults make meals for their families instead of buying meals another solution could be for the government to step in and create a limit on how big restaurants are allowed to have their portion sizes. • 40. Examples Of Justice In No Country For Old Men In the novel No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy, there is a battle between two versions of justice. In typical western narratives, the Sheriff is the strong hero who perseveres through battle with the antagonist, and the good guys always win. However, this novel disrupts this usual ending with the introduction of a unique antagonist, Chigurh. Chigurh breaks the mold of the typical old western villain in how he manages to outsmart the law and escape. His escape is a disastrous blow to the system of justice the Sheriff has spent his life trying to maintain. Through this, the author displays a twisted, unhappy version of justice in Chigurh and how it compares to Sheriff Bell s typical, objective notion of justice on the western frontier. This interpretation showcases that sometimes justice is not between only good and bad, and good does not necessarily always win. With its alternative versions of justice, the novel illustrates the changing morality of the western frontier, the weakness of moral driven justice and how these opposing views create individual interpretations of justice compared to an objective standard. The Sheriff can be characterized as the hero of this novel. As a law enforcement official, he represents an objective, straightforward idea of justice. This point of view sees justice as black and white: there are good guys and bad guys, and the good guys always overcome the bad guys. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Readers could see why family farming was so important. So why would people want to bring in top gun machinery and ruin the land for future crops? For money and growth of themselves, not for the farming industry because in the late 1900s farming dropped from 40% to a glum 4.6%. Agribusiness arrives and begins to slowly tear apart small farms in Jayber Crow s world. Even in today s society big businesses tower in our economy. It seems that agriculture is not given any thought when it comes to making a profit and this tremendous defect in humans is another reason people can not live just to please and benefit themselves. People who live to help people and become saints of the land and vow to protect it are the people who made the land last.
