2. Fire Department History
Tom Tagliareni Spring 2016 English Comp. 2 Professor Merrill History of the Fire Service When you
hear the words Fire Department what do you think of? For most people the first thing that comes to
mind is a big red truck with flashing lights and loud sirens and horns. Or people in bunker gear,
helmets and air packs carrying axes and hoses. But it was not always that way. In the beginning it was
nowhere near how it is today. Fire Fighting is defined as the action or process of extinguishing fires .
The first fire department was created in 24 B.C. by Roman emperor Augustus Caesar. It was made up
of slaves that were positioned around the city. This was not a very good department because the slaves

for 30 seconds or if you press the button. It allows other firefighters to find you if you go down. The
packs also have lights on them that blank to make it easier to spot a firefighter while they are working.
There is a gauge on the strap that shows you your air level and a built in alarm starts ringing when you

3. The Impact Of Technology On Human Relationships
Most people would agree that it is nearly impossible to avoid technology use in their daily routines.
Technology is often described as an electronic drug by people such as Alex Lickerman M.D. and
many others who notice and even engage in the epidemic that is affecting millions. Because the
electronic world demands attention from the physical world, there are effects that are to be expected.
The ever present electronic word, that demands everyone s attention, is playing a role in how life in
the real world is lived; people now interact with one another and establish relationships differently as a
result. As technology becomes more integrated into every minute of peoples days, it is changing the
culture, specifically, the fundamental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With these revelations, more people are joining the debate that truly effects all. With other debates,
there is a target audience, a specific set of people who will or at least should care. Unlike those topics
that narrow their audience to a particular group, this debate matters to anyone with a wifi connection.
It matters to those looking for a relationship and even those who are already in one. Anyone who
depends on technology, experiences the effect it has on how life is done. One of the most drastic
changes that technology allows for it the ability to edit oneself. Prior to the majority of people owning
a cell phone, most conversations happened in a face to face setting. When talking to someone in real
time, responses are required to be immediate, but talking online or through texting allows for a pause.
But, a digital interaction unfolds differently. Slouching behind a device allows for ample delay. The
extra time may be spent editing oneself words to create a persona or simply in avoidance. Regardless,
people engaging in a face to face conversation expect an immediate response whereas a digital
conversation allows for the pause that is almost expected. Sherry Turkle, author of No Need to Call, a
brief essay Alone Together: Why We Expect More From Technology and Less From Each Other,
reasons that a delay allows people to edit their words, making them look better than they would in a
real time conversation, thus creating an online

4. Embryonic Research
Many women are eager to become a mother, but infertility prevents some women from satisfying this
need. However, modern biotechnologies combined with changed norms of culture now provide them
reproductive choices such as in vitro fertilization. In order to develop these reproductive choices, we
need to research on living human embryo. Because its procedures terminate the life of embryo,
embryonic research stirs up public attention on its morality. Society questions if these methods are
morally right. Do they violate the meaning of personhood and life? Do we kill a human when we
research the embryos? These questions are asking our foundation of morality. We must be cautious
and avoid any logical fallacies when we answer them. Using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In this essay, Gorovitz points out several logical fallacies in embryonic research opponent essays,
including Kass . For instance, one of his arguments is that opposing essays usually use slippery slope
arguments, stating that starting of artificial insemination would lead us to social disaster (117). He
argues that the slippery slope arguments are not valid in this discussion because they never provide
any rational evidences why we cannot stop after we start down this path. Gorovitz claims that
Collectively we have significant capacity to exercise judgment and control (118) so the practice of
artificial insemination will not lead us to the disaster. There are few more ill logics in Kass and other
opposing essays that Gorovitz has pointed out. Ironically, however, logical fallacies he uses to attack
his opponents also appear in his essay too.
Another Gorovitz s important argument is the argument against Kass statement, The human embryo is
not mere meat; it is not just stuff; it is not a thing (Kass 102). Gorovitz argues that according to Kass
statement, human cadavers which are also not mere meat, not just stuff, not the thing, should be
protected from being used for research purpose too. But since it is acceptable to use human cadavers
in research, in medical education, and in organs transplant, Gorovitz claims that these using of
cadavers justify using of embryos as well. In this comparison,

5. The Invention Of The Scientific Revolution
Women in the Scientific Revolution
The scientific revolution is generally considered part of the broader intellectual revolution that began
with the Italian Renaissance and the rediscovery and translation of the classical writers, particularly
Aristotle, sometime during the fourteenth century. It is only in retrospect that one can understand
broad movements, such as this, but one can assert with confidence that the scientific revolution
resulted from a confluence of several factors, most particularly the rejection of the Ptolemaic model of
planetary movement combined with an increased interest in Aristotelian science (Grant, 1996). Thus,
the scientific revolution, insofar as it was a revolution rather than a developing, continuous process,
may be claimed to have begun in 1543 with the publication of Copernicus De revolutionibus orbium
coelestium, though establishing this as a boundary is as much a matter of convenience as anything else
(Linton, 2004). As an intellectual and cultural phenomenon, the scientific revolution continues to the
present, moving through such advances as Newtonian mechanics, the experimental method of
chemistry, advanced in anatomy and medicine, Darwinian evolution, relativity and quantum
mechanics, with myriad offshoots at every stage along the way of this development.
At the present, there is much dispute about how, or whether, the scientific revolution will end: some
think it will continue forever, while others believe it will culminate with

It s no surprise that when a team starts to break records at a rapid pace, people start to wonder whether
they are the on of the best teams all time, if not the greatest. That s what the current Golden State
Warriors team is doing right now. People did not expect them to be playing at such a high level after
their historic year last year. They started off this year with a bang, behind reigning MVP Stephen
Curry, and they are yet to slow down. They are currently on pace to break the single season record set
by the Chicago Bulls in 1996 behind Michael Jordan, and this run is starting people to debate whether
this Warriors team is better than the Bulls team from 1996, who are currently considered the greatest
team of all time. Many different claims have been brought up, such as the Bulls are better because
they had Michael Jordan or the Warriors are better because they have a deeper team. Those supporting

In her poem, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Maya Angelou The bird sings because it wants her
freedom. I think the caged bird also sings because she is bored or probable she needs distraction
because she does not have nothing to do alone. I guess the bird is also calling someone because she
might need something. Also i think the bird is ignored by the people that have the bird captured. I
think this paragraph has to do with The Long Walk Home because Odessa can not do nothing by her
choice. I also think she can t do nothing by herself in the movie. I think people should know this
because it s sad that in the past people had to do that for white people. For me i think the poem and the
movie are at least alike. Odessa cannot do stuff in the house because the owners might get mad at her
but the wife stands up for the black people for me that was a good choice because black people are
people they are not toys. Odessa is related to the caged bird because she can t go to places. This
supports my claim because people right now are not locked up for slaves. This also supports my claim
because black people are not toys they are people that do work for them to get money but what they
do in that day is not okay because they are slaves. My discussion is that slaves should be treated nice
not bad. The only places she can go is home and church. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

8. Human Body Continuously Need Blood Supply Essay
Human body continuously need blood supply to the cell in order to deliver oxygen and nutrient to the
cells and carrying out carbon dioxide out of the cell. In order to have good perfusion in tissue, a
person has to have good cardiac health and patent vessels. Edema also affect tissue perfusion. There
are many reasons that disturbed the normal flow of blood like ECG rhythm, congestive heart failure,
hypertension, gestational hypertension, mitral valve prolapse, coronary artery disease, and peripheral
vascular disease, which are also the exemplars of perfusion. There are many risk factors that can be
modified to prevent the perfusion problem.
Blood pressure greater than 140/90 is known as hypertension. Excessive sodium intake,
hyperlipidemia, obesity, diabetes, extreme tobacco and alcohol use, over activity of sympathetic
nervous system, and over production of sodium retaining hormones and vasoconstriction substances
are major contributing factors of hypertension. Heredity, age, and gender are also the risk factors for
hypertension (Bucher Dirksen, 2014). Hypertension is one of the most underlying cause of impaired
perfusion. High blood pressure for long period of time can shore up smooth muscles of artery as a
result of building up the strength through hypertrophy and hyperplasia, which results in decrease size
of arterial lumen. In older adult, the wall of artery become thick and hard due to above contributing
factors that I mention. This alter vasomotor tone and blood

The policeman had no motive for not acting on the brothers; rather he was too ignorant to take them
seriously. Like others in the town, he had no interest in the activities of two drunken brothers openly
admitting to their plot.
Divina Flor, another townswoman who knew of the brother s plot, let her personal issue with Santiago

college level. I have continuously worked on my writing skills throughout English 101 and 102 and
hope the skills I have gained in these courses will prepare me to write on an intellectual level. Looking
back at previous discussion posts, assignments, papers, and feedback from peers and my instructor, I
have achieved a large amount of insight to higher level writing. This past semester I was required to
create four major papers including Rhetorical Analysis Essay, Annotated Bibliography, Exploratory
Essay, and the Researched Position Paper. Each of these papers entailed vigorous research and time.
My writing has progressively improved throughout the semester in quoting, summarizing, and
paraphrasing source material, as well as choosing academic appropriate sources; however, I must
strive to improve in general writing skills covering organization, style, diction, grammar, and
mechanics.
I felt that I did well on the third course objective of synthesizing ethically summarized, paraphrased,

information throughout my papers from numerous academic level sources. In my Researched Position
Paper Final, I quoted two sentences from Jeffrey Lieberman s article, How to Halt the

12. How Bodybuilding Has Changed Over Time
Bodybuilding is a form of sport that aims to make the body to be in a great physical condition and also
enhance health. The sport makes both the body and the mind fit and thus, eliminate common health
conditions associated with living sedentary lifestyles. Bodybuilding entails extreme body workout and
training as well as healthy eating to attain the desired physique (Elledge 33). It is believed to decrease
risk factors associated with the development of coronary heart diseases. Through taking part in aerobic
exercises and weight training, people have higher chances of lessening and managing high blood
pressure, high cholesterol, and obesity. The process also makes the body muscles strong and flexible
(Cross 41). Bodybuilding has come of ages and has evolved intensively. Its history dates back to late
1800s but the dynamics and objectives of the sport have changed over time. The focus is to analyze
bodybuilding sport of the ancient times and comparing it to the nature of the sport today in terms of
priorities and objectives.
Bodybuilding dates back to the 19th century specifically 1890s when weight training commenced in
the world. The practice took place in Greece and Egypt where people lifted stones purposely to have

be used solely by them. Herbert, a representative from Coca Cola USA, informs the Grove Press that
they had used their slogan in one of their advertisements for a book. Seaver, Executive Vice President

Seaver presents a stronger letter with the use a sarcasm and countering all of Herbert s claims while
Herbert merely establishes authority and uses weak logic as his backup. Herbert immediately builds

from the history of Coca Cola where the slogan had been used. Furthermore, he appeals to fear by
using scare tactics such as subtlety threatening legal action by appreciating their cooperation without
having even a reply from Seaver (Herbert 26). As a result, his letter is similar to a cease and desist

Roy DeCarava was born in 1919 in New York and became a famous photographer whose subjects

he would later use in his painting, but over time began to rely on the camera more until that became
his medium for art. Throughout his life, DeCavara was forced to deal with racial discrimination,
which in part led him to begin photographing African Americans and their experiences in 20th century
America. In the 1940 s DeCarava began shooting a series photographs in Harlem, which later were
included in his first solo show in 1950. In 1952, Decarava was awarded Guggenheim Fellowship, and

poor sales. He also started a workshop in 1963 specifically for African American photographers.

of Jameson Browning. Where Jameson s viewpoint of reality is called to question, as well as the
concept of the monstrous that is presented throughout the novel. In which I will argue how Rowe s
ghost story can be considered a psychological horror story, due to the perspective of the narrating

In which Rowe s concept of the monstrous doesn t need to be a physical creature that is unexplainable.
Rather, this paper will approach Rowe s monster with the lens that Amanda is the trope of the
ambiguous terror residing in the human mind. Once Rosa Blackmore s origin story is grasped by the
protagonist Jameson, he obtains a demotic understanding of who the Blackmore s were, and the sins
of their past; specifically the Father. In discovering his act in violating his daughter s virtue, which is a
parallel reflection in her approach as the monster, in violating the lives and minds of others. Rowe
presents Rosa in an ambiguous manner when perceived by the point of view characters in the story,
which serves as the figurative mode in amplifying the magnitude of terror. To ascribe Amanda as a
ghastly monster would be correct due to her illusive behaviour in revealing herself from afar, and the
difficulty to perceive her/it. Jameson denies the possibility of the supernatural phenomena through the
constant reliance of an internal demotic voice. Through reasoning, he s rationalizes the situation

Common female stereotypes found in the media have a powerful influence over how society views
women and how women view themselves. What is the media portrayal of women today and how does
this impact how young girls perceive themselves? With programs such as The Bachelor and Flavor of
Love showing a dozen women competing for the attention of one man, often using their sexuality,

society not to be influenced by the overwhelming message to objectify women.
Negative Female Stereotypes
Female stereotypes in the media tend to undervalue women as a whole, and diminish them to sexual
objects and passive human beings. According to research done by Children Now, a national
organization trying to make children a public priority, 38% of female characters found in video games
are wearing revealing clothing, 23% are showing cleavage. Magazine ads show a dismembered female
body, with parts, instead of the whole, a practice that according to media activist, Jean Kilbourne,
turns women into objects. Disney movies, from Beauty and The Beast to Aladdin show slender,
unrealistically curvaceous, and quite vulnerable young women, who are dependent on male figures for
strength and survival, not their own sense of empowerment. Media stereotyping of women as objects
and helpless beings creates very low

21. The Triangle Factory Fire Of 1911
The Triangle Factory Fire of 1911 The Industrial Revolution is remembered as a major turning point
in U.S. history. During this time, there were advancements in technology, an abundance of natural
resources, cheap labor and investment capital. Industrialization led to the development of factories,
which led to the increase in jobs for many immigrants. These advancements clearly overshadowed the
harsh working conditions for many of these factory workers. In 1911, The Triangle Factory Fire was a
clear representation of the dangers when the focus is on cheap labor production instead of the
wellbeing of the factory workers. The Triangle Waist Company, manufactured women s clothing and
was located in the heart of Manhattan. This company, owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris,
occupied the floors of the Asch Building. The factory attracted many people in desperate need of
work. This consequently led to the workers being taken advantage of by paying them very low wages.
They often worked excessively long hours without adequate compensation, and the safety or work
conditions were also of no importance. Around the same time other factories were actually standing up
and protesting the harsh working conditions in what is known as sweatshops. Even after the
cloakmakers strike of 1910, which established a grievance system, most working conditions did not
improve. Also a lot of the workers were immigrant woman and did not have the confidence to stand up
to the factory owners. The

23. Analysis of the Relationship of the Blind Man and the Husband
Raymond Carver s quot;Cathedral quot; depicted the interaction between a narrow minded husband,
with a limited understanding of the world around him, and a blind visitor, named Robert, that proved
to be the catalyst that dramatically changed the husband s view on the world, while they went from
being strangers to becoming friends. In the beginning of the story, the husband disliked the concept of
his wife bringing her blind friend over to stay since he never had met a blind person before and did not
understand it. However, as the story progresses, the husband, through interaction and observation,
begins to dispel his fears and misconceptions of Robert and his blindness. With the help of Robert, the
husband gains a revelation that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

blind to the world outside his own. This blindness is what may have been preventing him from having

after Robert s arrival, the initial apprehension and preconceptions were replaced with actual
experiences that broadened the husband s understanding as he learns from his first ever meeting with a

When Robert arrived, the husband realized that some of his expectations of Robert turned out to be
false. Robert has shown himself to be a very outgoing and cheerful person and not the silent brooding
ones that were displayed in the husband s moving going experience. The fact that he was surprised
Robert smoked, based on his having read quot;somewhere that the blind didn t smoke because, as
speculation had it, they couldn t see the smoke they exhaled, quot; and the fact that the husband

limited capacity to interact with the world around him. Robert not only dispels misconceptions about
his blindness, he also demonstrated himself

24. The Problems Of The Tableau Procedure
As we mentioned in the introduction section, one of the time problems related to the Tableau
procedure is checking if the branch is closed or not. The ordinary way for checking if a branch is
closed is known as highly time cost process. We need an intelligent and simple way to construct and
check the branches. One way, is to use ordered branches (i.e. to put the negated predicates in the
branch first, and then not negated ones), but we still have a problem if the number of negated elements
is much greater than the not negated ones. The following scenario is possible in this case,
If we choose to check if the list contains neg X and X, if neg X is the last element in the negative ones,
and X is the last element in the not negated ones, we have to process all the elements of the negated
ones and in each time we process an element we start from the beginning of the list and process the
whole branch to check if its not negated element is exist. Of course, a lot of time is consumed before
tableau reaches neg X, and finds out that X is exist. branch. The third predicate closed / 1 check the
lists in the branch if the negative one is shorter than the positive on the predicate checks if neg X is a
member of the first list and X is a member of the second list; otherwise it checks if X is in the positive
list and neg
X in the negative one.
The fourth improvement, and the main idea of our implementation, is to use the multi threading
approach in implementing the tableau procedure.

Deep Ocean: The truth of the Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea
Everyone might have once imagined dark environments and scary creatures which live in the deep
sea. These childlike dreams are visualized in the popular novel, Twenty Thousand Leagues under the
Sea. In the novel, the main character, Pierre Aronnax, searches for a mysterious sea monster while
fighting with scary undersea creatures. Although many undersea creatures have been depicted in the
novel, one of the striking deep sea creatures would be a giant octopus. This octopus is depicted as a
scary creatures that threatens the main character. Many people might think the creatures are fake, but
the giant octopus exists, which is also well known by today s scientists.
The deep sea normally is interpreted as the lowest layer in the ocean, existing below the thermocline
and above the seabed, at a depth of 6,000 feet or more. As shown in the novel, the deep sea has been a
mysterious and interesting theme for a long time. The subject area of the deep sea attracts many
readers; therefore, it became a topic of many pieces of literature and science magazines. As a result, a
lot of research has focused on investigating the deep sea. However, why do we have to conduct such
research?
Deep sea research was accelerated during World War II. The war brought many scientific

My life peaked when I was around seven years old. My two best friends were in my class, I read at a

forced to wear pigtails because the Great Lice Outbreak of 08 and to top that nice pile off, none of my
friends were in my class. I can only imagine what I seemed like to others. During that time period one
thing stayed constant my curiosity for the things around me, exploring my garden. I would dig up
different rocks and neatly arrange them in a line, always wondering where they came from. My
curiosity heightened when I went to California and actually experienced an earthquake, a small one
albeit, but an earthquake nonetheless. Now, things have gotten better since second grade, but I ve

The Bhagavad Gita, an excerpt from a traditional Hindu reading, the Mahabharata, is the story
between a split family fighting for the throne. Arjuna, a great warrior, has the duty, or dharma, of
fighting fellow family members and friends to take possession of the crown. As he is going into war,
Arjuna has a chariot driver, Krishna. He is unaware that Krishna is actually a god taking a disguise as
a human in the world. Arjuna suddenly becomes unsure of fighting when he arrives to the battlefield
and begins thinking and doubting fighting his family. Krishna begins giving him advice about how he
must fight and the way he should be living his life. Later, he even reveals who he truly is to Arjuna.
The Bhagavad Gita conveys many themes throughout the text, such as: the cycle of death and rebirth,
taking action in your life, and your dharmic duty.
A main concept in The Bhagavad Gita is karma. Karma in the Hinduism religion is defined as action

29. Essay on U.S. Foreign Policy and Latin America
During the Cold War, the US invaded Latin America, Asia, and partly Europe. They used sneaky
methods and propaganda to achieve their goals. At this time, in the Cold War, they were very devious
and tactical in their mission. The US foreign Policy at that time was all about defeating Communism
and keeping the balance of power in it s favor but most importantly, for US s own economic interest.
Generally, the US foreign policy concerning Latin America was of course for the US own benefit. If
the person in power was trying to nationalize their country s economy, the US accused them of
communism and proceeded to push them out, unofficially, under the pretext of national security. In
Guatemala, United Fruit was the main corporation that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

corporation s, and these corporation s controlled the country s resources. When Allende nationalized
copper the two main American corporation were financially hurt severely and lost a lot of profit. This
concerned the US and Nixon worried that Chile was falling under soviet control and communism. One
of Nixon s fears was that the Soviets would have total control in Americas backyard. However, the
major reason that the US instigated the overthrow was because the corporations did not want Chile to
take over their own resources and use them for their own benefit. The corporations were able to
exercise leverage over Allende because Chile was in the middle of an economic depression and Chile
was receiving loans from American banks. Once Allende was in power these loans were stopped by
US foreign policy and of course Chile suffered economically . At this point, Pinochet was put into
power . This is a perfect example of how the US foreign policy replaced genuine democracy with
dictatorship for their own benefit, and again, supposedly in the name of National Security. Latin
America was a victim of US foreign policy and corporate greed. US foreign policy in Europe was to
dominate, exploit, and to eradicate Communism. This was to continue US hegemony and to keep the
balance of power in their favor.

30. Figurative Language In Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven
Quoth the Raven, Nevermore is undoubtedly one of the most popular lines ever written in poetry.
Even those unfamiliar with the works of the author that uttered this will have some faint inkling of
recognition when met with this line. However, those who examine and take the time to analyze the
stylistic elements of poetry recognize that techniques like symbolism, figurative language, and
repetition, such as the repetition of the phrase nevermore, are designed to impact the reader and are
utilized by the author to create a desired effect. Edgar Allan Poe, the poet responsible for many works
of literature such as The Raven, Annabel Lee, The Haunted Palace uses symbolism, extended
metaphor, and repetition to make the mood of his poems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A prominent example of extended metaphor is when Edgar Allan Poe utilizes the symbol of a
palace/castle in The Haunted Palace to represent someone s mind. At the beginning, Poe writes, Once
a fair and stately palace Radiant palace reared its head / In the monarch Thought s dominion, It stood
there! At this point in the poem, the palace, or mind, is fair and working well. Later, however, Poe
begins to describe how ...evil things, in robes of sorrow/ Assailed the monarch s high estate
introducing a shift from the previously happy image of a calm, beautiful palace, now somber and
ghastly. The tone of the poem, through introducing this extended metaphor, thus shifted to become
sorrowful and regretful. Another popular example of repetition from Poe s work is the repetition of the
phrase, Nevermore, throughout The Raven. At the beginning, when the bird just arrived, nevermore
represented hope, such as when Poe writes, Till I scarcely more than muttered Other friends have
flown before /On the morrow he will leave me, as my Hopes have flown before. / Then the bird said
Nevermore. This shows that the bird showed up as symbol to comfort the narrator and distract him
from Lenore s death. However, throughout the poem, phrase nevermore begins to get more and more
frustrating, as now, the raven is using it to respond to

31. Faith In John Irving s A Prayer For Owen Meany
John Irving s coming of age novel A Prayer for Owen Meany follows the tale of Owen Meany through
the voice of his friend Johnny Wheelwright. Johnny s narration drifts from astonishment to doubt as
he witnesses the miracle of the life of Owen Meany, and constantly questions his faith and belief
system as he attains various experiences. Johnny becomes enraptured with Owen s miraculous life,
and proclaims Owen the sole reason for his faith. Contrastingly, Dan Needham, Johnny s stepdad, and
Reverend Merrill experience a greater amount of doubt regarding their belief in miracles, and, for the
most part, believe that faith does not stem from the witness of a miracle or two, but rather from one s
belief in God through personal and spiritual growth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Put simply, the miraculousness of Owen Meany catalyzes Johnny s faith. Yet, Johnny s faith did not
spring forth the moment he met Owen; instead, Owen s life, sprouting with miracles, gradually
inspired Johnny to accept and pursue a life of faith. Therefore, his true faith was born out of the
miracle of Owen. After the Christmas pageant in which Johnny starred as Joseph and Owen as baby
Jesus, Johnny mentions that that Sunday...contributed to my belief in and my dislike of the miracle
(231). Here, Johnny s reference to the miracle alludes to Owen Meany. Nonetheless, the miracle in
this instance contradicts the heartwarming, wondrous thoughts that may first float through one s mind
at the mention of a miracle. This miracle, Owen s role as baby Jesus, astounds Johnny because of
Owen s ability to take charge and the changes and revisions that Owen brings about to an established
faith tradition. In reaction, some despised Owen s rude outburst to his parents and slight alterations to
the traditional Christmas story, but some appreciated the modifications. Similarly, when Jesus
preached new teachings and introduced revisions to ancient traditions, many attacked him and
proclaimed his teachings heresies. Therefore, both Owen and Jesus experience hindrances in their
lifestyles that differ from the norm; although, both manage to persevere in leading others in their
missions as God s instruments on the Earth. Another miracle occurred much later in Johnny s life,
after Owen s death, when Dan Needham shuts Johnny into an unlit cellar as a joke. Unfortunately,
Johnny loses his balance at the edge of the stairs, and he begins to fall backwards. Just before he
topples over, Johnny feels a small hand guide his own hand to the light switch while pulling his body

Stereotyping within this cartoon is represented by Americans that support patriotism by yelling at
Kaepernick for kneeling during the National Anthem. Americans who believe in patriotism believe
that no matter what, you should respect our country, flag and National Anthem. Some Americans tend
to get upset when players in the NFL, like Kaepernick, disrespect our country and our flag by kneeling
during the National Anthem. Freedom of speech is depicted through the image of Colin Kaepernick
kneeling during the national anthem. This tends to be typical of black players in the NFL, like
Kaepernick, who kneel during the National Anthem because they believe that they shouldn t stand up
and show pride in a flag that represents a country that oppresses blacks and people of color. Logos is
shown with the representation of the military within the political cartoon, which shows that the
military doesn t fight for the right that you must stand for the National Anthem, but rather that they
fight for the right to have the privilege to stand or sit during the National Anthem.

Americans to have the right to sit or stand during the National Anthem. The author places two binary

37. Oriental Despotism In Montetesquieu s The Persian Letters
The European s mindset by the latter of the third of the 18th century saw that inside each Asian burned
the effervescent ember of savagery. Without controlling governance over the people, Europeans
believed anarchy would chaotically erupt in Asia. It was believed Asians truly did not have self control
without a supreme leader. Oriental despotism is the idea that the societies in Asia have a single
totalitarian formed government and without this leadership there would be no order to their society.
According to Montesquieu, Asian power is absolutist and held in the hands of one. Everything that
could possibly happen is in the merciless hands of the despotism. In Montesquieu s epistolary novel
The Persian Letters, he argues for oriental despotism through his two main characters in the story
Usbec and Rico. He talks about the economic, political, social and cultural aspects of Persian society
that he parallels with oriental despotism. Montesquieu also shows makes his story of the characters
into a metaphor of the destruction of oriental despotism. Marx believed in the superiority of the west
and the lack of growth in political and economic realms of Asiatic society contributing to the concept
of Asian despotism. Finally, Hegel touches on the white man s burden where he uses oriental

among the first to use persuasion. Aristotle defined rhetoric as the faculty of observing in any given
case, the available means of persuasion (17). Aristotle believed that persuasion consist of artistic and
inartistic proofs. When giving a persuasive speech we are able to control certain aspects of it such as

public to feel sorrow and donate funds for the cause. Many individuals do not want to live with the
guilt of not helping out and so they decide to donate for a good cause, thus eliminating that regret.
Finally, we have this idea of logos which is the idea of using logical or rational appeals (17). Lagos
uses things such as polls, facts or statistics to appeal to the audience. A recent example of Lagos would
be the campaign promises that President Donald Trump made to the American people. One of them

realism in Walima gave a magical twist to a seemingly normal reality. An example of this would be on
page. 131 when the young Ila girls was introduced her tribe known among the people were thought of
as ...the people of gentle heart... It hurt young Walima to see the girl lying there ...tied by one ankle to
a chain staked in the ground... she looked like a lizard and her bones ...clicked like a small stones in a
river. The text uses magical realism to describe just how horrible her current condition was. In the

The author gave it a very magical description ...transformed the dwelling into a fossil of prehistoric
dimensions, an enormous beast... Another type of magical realism is making sense of two separate
realities: the conquered and the conqueror. In the story The School Teachers Guest one example is Ines

40. Does Gmos Have Detrimental Effect On World Health
The world is a hungry place. It s hungry for love, hungry for passion, hungry for money and hungry
for work. But more than anything, it s hungry for food. People are starving around the globe while the
rest of us live a comfortable existence. Several companies have used their scientific expertise to
genetically modify seeds to increase crop yields in an attempt to feed the masses and end world
hunger. Can they do it? In the short run, yes they can, but it is important to ask at what cost? What are
they not telling us? If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Although the genetically
modified food industry has so far been instrumental in successfully feeding a hungry and growing
world population, those same foods are polluting the environment, poisoning our food supply and
killing us slowly.
THE CONTROVERSY
The belief that GMOs have a detrimental effect on world health has made its inclusion in our food
supply one of the most talked about topics today. This reaction comes from an alarming body of
evidence connecting them with health issues, environmental damage and the violation of farmer and
consumers rights. (Non GMO Project.) This issue has created a growing concern throughout the
world, prompting over sixty countries to ban them or pass stringent laws to label their presence in
consumer products, especially food (Non GMO Project.)
Due to the corruption of government agencies such as the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA)
and the United States

43. “Second, We Are Not Jivers. Do You Even Know What That
Second, we are not jivers. Do you even know what that means? We don t do jazz; we do rock and roll.
Fitch glared at me. Well, what should we call ourselves, then?
Is everything up to me? I let out a heavy sigh to buy myself some time. How about if each of us comes
up with a couple suggestions and next time we can vote?
Gary said, That s a good idea.
Sounds like the fairest way to do it, Deuce chimed in.
We moved on to choose songs.
What do you guys know? I asked.
They rattled off the names of a few songs and I said Ginger and I could do them all. Then I steered
them to the ones we d actually practiced. The five of us worked on Tutti Frutti, Why do Fools Fall in
Love, and Rock around the Clock. Fitch and Deuce didn t do ... Show more content on

I d already taken my drum kit apart and practiced carrying it to figure out how to lug it on the bus. Joe
had solved that problem. While Ginger changed her clothes and fixed her hair, I hauled the drums out
and stuck them in the trunk of his Buick.
Ginger and I looked each other over. There was nothing glamorous about our outfits dark blue skirts
and light blue sweaters but it was all we had that kinda matched. I d given the boys strict instructions
to wear dark pants and white shirts for our first gig. We d have to shop for flashier attire later. Are you
going to tell Melanie about our surprise? Or should I? Joe asked once we were settled in the front seat.
Ginger stiffened next to me. She swallowed and croaked out, Go ahead.
Because it was dark I could make out only the outline of Joe s head, but I could hear the smile in his
voice. I had fifty copies of your record made. I ll take a few around to radio stations and shops to see
if we can generate some interest.
I let out a whoop. Wow! Thanks! This is so neato.
Ginger thanked him too, then added, It must ve cost you a lot of money. It might be a while before we
can pay you back.
Don t worry about it. I get the company discount and the royalty fee isn t much. We have to sell only a
few records to make the money back. After that, I ll give you the profits and we can talk about how to
handle the next one. There are some records in that box
