Pro Life
Be the change you wish to see in the world is a great quote to live by because it guides you to
help others and make an impact. I use this quote to guide my life personally because I want to be
able to use what I believe in, and my goals to make a change. Abortion is a very common debate
in the world, and it has been this way for hundreds of years. There are two main arguments when it
comes to abortion, most people are either Pro Life or Pro Choice. People that are pro life are
against abortions and believe that every human life has equal worth and should have the
opportunity to live. While people who are pro choice believe that women should have the choice to
decide if they wanted to keep the child that they had growing inside of them or if she wants to
terminate the pregnancy. I am pro life because I believe that abortions are used as a way out of
something that people are in no hurry to try and prevent. I think that as a society we focus on sex
as a thing that everyone does and that makes young adults think that they need to be joining what
everyone is doing. This ends up creating a child that neither the mother nor the father are capable
of taking care of, and the mother feels her only way out of the situation is to terminate the
pregnancy in the form of an abortion. I want my impact on the world to be less of a... Show more

makes it so easy for others to persuade them to do something, is it their hormones, their maturity, or

Should Shakespearian Text Should Not Be Taught In Schools...
Why Shakespearian Text Shouldn t be Taught Have you ever read a page of a book in another
language and then asked why you do not understand it? That is how must high school students feel
while reading Shakespearian texts like Romeo and Juliet , Hamlet , and Taming the Shrew . Some
people think that Shakespearian text should be taught in schoolbecause of the historic, while others
like myself think that Shakespeare should not be taught because in today society, people do not
speak in old English and students today do not understand the language use. One reason why
Shakespeare texts should not been taught in high schoolis other text with different cultural
backgrounds can be taught instead. While I do understand, Shakespearian text teaches much about
the time period in which it was written but, this information can be taught in history class and not in
an English class. In an article by The Washington Post, a teacher that talks about how there are more
works of literature then Shakespeare that teach the same thing. When the author writes Because,

Instead, books like To Kill a Mocking Bird, The Catcher in the Rye, and Emma can be substitute
in for Shakespeare texts. In an article by American Theater, the author states, Yes, Shakespeare was
dense, hard to read and comprehend, but I learned things from him. (Holtman). After this the
author goes on about how being taught Shakespeare expanded his vocabulary and open him to
topics like mythology and philosophy and how he became a better person reading through lines of
poetry and dialogue. I do agree with Mr. Holtman when he says this but if this response to text can
be achieved more quickly using texts that make more sense to the readers, being high school

Societal Issues Affecting African Americans
Set in the 1960 s, The Help, emphasizes the societal issues affecting African Americans in the
past and shows eerily similar parallels to our society today. The 1960 s consisted of a multitude
of protests and movements preaching civil disobedience and resistance. This attitude and
behavior, led to the rise of the Civil Rights Movement which is also a major aspect of the film.
The Help, delivers a message that stresses the dangers and paranoia that may be associated with a
changing society that is focused on retaining it s original values regardless of what may be
occurring around them. Eventually change does take charge and while acceptance is not
immediate, slowly but steadily toleration does begin to take root. Released in 2011, the film
reflects the alterations in society but also displays the changes that have yet to occur. The Help,
showed the move forward and reluctant path to acceptance and lenience. Many White individuals
aided African Americans in their fight to gaining full civil rights while others did not bother to
hide their disapproval and continued to believe that African Americans were inferior therefore did
not deserve civil liberties. While as a society, we have come far, there continue to be many aspects
that have yet to change and African Americans continue to face discrimination and inequality today.
The film reveals the difficulties of bringing about change and altering the mindsets of deepset
individuals. The film is based upon the original novel,

Big 5 Mass Extinction Events In Research
Throughout the lifetime of the Earth, there have been various scientists who have hypothesized
various extinction events. The following essay will cover the five major extinction events,
otherwise known as the Big 5 Mass Extinction Events . According to Wikipedia (2016), a mass
extinction is a widespread and rapid decrease in the amount of life on Earth. Such an event is
identified by a sharp change in the diversity and abundance of multicellular organisms .
The first major extinction event is said to have been the Ordovician Silurian mass extinction, 443
million years ago, which occurred during the end of the Ordovician period, and the start of the
Silurian period (bbc.co.uk, 2014). This is the third largest mass extinction in the Earth s history,
and there were two peak dying times during this period, separated my hundreds of thousands of
years. The Ordovician is characterised by sea life, so creatures such as brachiopods, graptolites and
trilobite populations were severely diminished. An ice age is said to be responsible for the death
(endangerdspeciesinternational.org, 2011).
The Late Devonian mass extinction is well known for having one of the most drastic extinction
rates. During this extinction period, which spans over a few million years, ... Show more content on

However, along with the dinosaurs there were many other creatures such as pterosaurs, ammonites
and many flowering plants that were wiped out as well. It is said that a combination of dropping
sea levels and flood basalt eruptions were one of the causes (Murcia, 2015). The proverbial final
nail in the coffin was a meteorite strike, near the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico, which caused the
most significant damage. This extinction event is also known as the K/T extinction (bbc.co.uk,

Mill s Harm Principle
Mill s harm principle of One should not interfere with other people s lives unless those people are
doing harm to others (p.G3), is in other words, if a person do not cause harm to others, there is no
reason to prevent his/her actions. Mill s belives that an individual is the supreme sovereign of his
/her own acts. Even when the decisions taken may be some harm upon him/her, the responsibility of
these actions is only on the individual.
When it comes to drug legalization, many people think that drugs should be legalized. It would
stop drug traffic, its use would be safer, and would be a better drug control under the state and
government. Obviously, the harm principle is linked to this opinion due to, If a person does no
one else harm by a moderate drug intake, then he or she should be allowed to continue using drugs
(Rosenstand, 256).
Gun control is another polemic topic. If an individual buy a gun to protect him/herself, apparently
do not cause harm to others. But, what about when an individual buy 30 different guns and kill
50 people leaving other 500 wounded? This is the case in the recent shoorting in Las Vegas,
Nevada. How is possible for a man to buy 30 guns without any authority interference? These
shooting are constantly happened in the United States, a country in which a gun control exists,
what would happened if there wasnot a gun control? Of course, Mill s harm principle fail in its
application in this case. Peraphs Mills applied his harm principle only to adults and in control of his
mental faculties (Rosenstand, 255).
Many people think that to wear a helmet should a personal desition and should be not mandatory.
After all, if harm is cause for not wearing a helmet, it will be a personal harm and no a general
harm for society, People have the right to chose their own poison (Rosenstand, 255).
Certainly, to consume a drug, buy a gun, or wear a helmet are personal decisitions. But pleople
should take into account that legalized or not, there are still drug consumers; under control or not,
people is still buying guns to harm others; and mandatory or not, people are still driving a bicycle
or a motorcycle without wearing a helmet. Then, at the end of the day, as Mill stated, Over himself,

Human Relations Reflection
The Research in Human Relations course guided me in the application mindset of my studies.
Mindfully being able to break down information, from the statement of the issue to the analysis
of data, to even an appropriate outcome that is beneficial to a particular field of study, is what
this course promotes. Don Miguel Ruiz states in his novel, The Four Agreements, that we make
different types of assumptions simply because we do not have the courage to ask questions
(Ruiz Mills, 1997, p. 68). This course enables students to not only want to ask questions but also
build on their incoming knowledge with the tools to support giving back to the field and
community. I long to give back through the power of research in my given field, and upon taking
this course I feel empowered to do just that. The Research in HR course set a solid foundation for
APA stylewriting, which has not only benefitted me through graduate school but will continue to
benefit me into my career path. Today, APA Style sets the bar that is well respected in journals,
books, and electronic databases (American Psychological Association, 2012). I found this course
beneficial because much like each of my other courses, it further refined my skillsets for my
pursuit of clinical administrative work and research on autism and speech in the field of speech
language pathology. Through each assignment, I became even more critical of the research I
consumed. Being able to produce solid sources to help push my field of

Superman Heroes Vs Anti Heroes Essay
Hey look! It s a bird, a plane, its Superman! The common phrase for a hero like Superman. But,
what about anti hero Macomber, a character written by Ernest Hemingway in the book called The
Short Happy Life? Throughout history we have seen millions of heroes and anti heroes. Heroes
are people who sacrifice their lives to save others, while anti heroes does the same thing, only they
lack the moral codes that heroes follow. They are both different because of one thing, their views
about appearance. Appearance describes one s personality, strength, and gives them an honorable
title. Heroes, like Superman, do not get caught up with their appearance, instead heroes would
sacrifice their lives in order to save others. Unlike anti heroes, like Macomber,... Show more content

We can see this happening when the narrator describes Maycomber. Maycomber is very tall,
very well built if you do not mind that length of bone...He is also very good at court games
(Hemingway 122). This quote shows that Maycomber is very fit and strongly built, but despite
his strength, in reality he is really a coward as described in paragraph above. He focuses more on
being the person who he looks like to be than what he actually is; a coward. Unlike superman
who does not focus at all about his strength. When maturity was reached, he discovered that he
could easily: raise tremendous weight (Siegel 4). This illustrates how superman is strong to the
public s eye, but in reality he is also a coward. Be reasonable Lois. Dance with the fellow and
then we ll leave right away (Siegel 10). Despite the fact that superman may be similar with
Maycomber, Superman still save people s lives, instead of trying to keep glory like Macomber.
With great strength, Superman uses it both as Superman and Clark Kent to save lives. Macomber
uses his strength as a way to show people that he is strong and not actually demonstrating it in the
story, again, showing us that heroes does not care much about appearance, they rather care about
saving

Another great activity South Padre Island offers is horse back riding on the beach which offers
different times of the day you can choose. Horseback riding is fun but what makes it more
amazing is you can enjoy it while being on the beach. It is really a great time to enjoy with your
family and just ride along the beach hearing the sound of the ocean. One of my other favorite
activities that I love to visit every summer when we have the whole family down is Schlitterbahn
Waterpark. It has amazing rides for the family to enjoy and cool down on a hot summer day.
They recently opened an indoor pool which is really cool just in case you want a take a break

When You Have Already Mastered You Will Never Grow Analysis
I agree with Ralph Waldo Emerson s statement that Unless you try to do something beyond what
you have already mastered, you will never grow. I agree with this because I believe that there is
always room to grow in life and people always need to push themselves to the next level. Even
once someone master something, they can always do better. There is nobody there telling people
okay, you ve mastered this, you don t need to go any further ;however, many people think that
once they ve reached a certain point they can just stop because they ve gotten that far. The
problem is that people need to realize that even after a certain skill is mastered or they reach a

Many people show examples of breaking past the point of doing well to get to a place where
they are extremely successful. One example of this would be Steve Jobs, he could ve settled
after the Macintosh was successful and taken his profit and been done. Instead, Steve actually
did the opposite and he strove to make a fortune off his ideas because he knew they were worth
something. He continued to create new ideas and devices that people went fanatic over, and he
succeeded. All of it happened because he went beyond just mastering one thing. He expanded his
thoughts into a greater idea that absolutely benefited him in the long run. In my personal
experiences, I have learned that pushing myself caused me great achievements, academically as
well as socially. In school, when I think I m doing my best, I try harder. When I think I help my
friends and family enough, I help more. There is always more to do and more lessons to learn.

Biographical Interpretation Essay
Many people view poems and other pieces of writing in different ways, there is no wrong or
right way to interpret a work of someone, it merely your point of view; your opinions. In Sylvia
Plath s poem Daddy , many could say that it was a about a hard relationship she had with her
father, but how do we know? It could be about her father, husband, strong authority figure, or even
God. But, as I read DaddyI got the strong sense that it was mostly about her father. The poem
suggests that she had either an unhealthy relationship with him or she was angry with him for
leaving her. In the poem, Plath says I have always been scared of you (41); I view this as she may
not have had the best relationship with him. Maybe he was abusive or mean.... Show more content

Daddy is a poem where Plath expressed her most personal feelings about her father and
ultimately her husband also. In the poem, when Plath writes And then I knew what to do. / I
made a model of you, / A man in black with a Meinkampf look. (63 65). It suggests that she
possibly actually went to her father s grave and maybe she tried to dig up her father s bones to
prove to her that he was really dead. Or, possibly these lines mean that she married someone who
was a lot like him. She married someone who she could look at every day and who reminds her
of her father. But, if this poem is about her sad relationship with him, why would she want to be
reminded of him every day? This only makes me come to the conclusion that she did not have a
horrible relationship with him, she was just angry with him for leaving her, for dying. As you can
tell there can be many different interpretations for Sylvia Plath s poem Daddy . I believe that this
poem is about Sylvia, who is angry with her father for dying and leaving her behind, who wants
to express her feelings towards this in a poem. She writes deep, dark, meaningful, thoughts on her
emotions and her actions to get back to him. I think that this poem is very unique in the way that
she describes her life in the poem; she goes from when he died to when she was thirty, and along
the way uses many analogies to describe her feelings. She also uses many symbolic phrases that

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Optometrists
Doctors of Optometry or Optometrists are people who provide us with vision care. Optometrists
diagnose eye problems like nearsightedness, astigmatism and farsightedness. They test the depth,
color and perception of the eyes and they evaluate the capability to focus and synchronize the
eyes. It is also important to choose these professionals carefully since the wide range of services
they provide is of a critical nature. Optometrists not only provide vision care. They may test for
glaucoma and other eye diseases. They are instrumental in detecting systemic conditions like
diabetes and high blood pressure, which affect the vision of patients. Optometrists refer patients to
ophthalmologists or other doctors if needed. Optometrists prescribe medications in case of vision
problems. Sometimes, optometrists even provide post operative care to patients who have had
corrective surgery or cataract operations. Thus, patients who need to approach the optometrists for
eyewear or vision problems must research the reputation and expertise of the practitioner to enjoy
quality care. Although optometrists specialize in primary eye care, some of them also specialize in

According to Healthy People 2012 there are more then 800,000 new cases of diabetes each year,
with the numbers on the rise. With this in mind, Healthy People 2012 has identified diabetes as

the next step in the teaching process is establishing a measurable goal. Teaching goals are broad in
scope and set down what is expected as the final outcome of the teaching and learning process

goals need to be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely. For our example, the

his diabetes, inspect feet daily, wash feet with warm water while drying between toes and apply
moisturizing cream to feet daily (not between toes), avoid walking barefoot or with unfitted shoes,

used, when implementing the diabetic foot care teaching, is tertiary prevention. This intervention

Fahrenheit 451 Nature Analysis
In the article Nature , Emerson displays the values of nature, and why man cannot grasp the true
significance of nature without being in solitude. By presenting the real beauty of nature in a
multitude of ways, the author supports his reasoning with valid evidence. Ultimately, the article is
intended to render the reader various thoughts about the value of nature. First and foremost, relating
to the novel Fahrenheit 451, Montag s journey into nature reflects the one depicted by Emerson in
varied ways. For example, Montag took time when he was alone to really look at the stars, is
described by Emerson when he states, If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how

Statistics Regarding The Use Of Tasers In The Chicago...
Just this April, the city s Police Accountability Task Force found that the Chicago Police
Department has no regard for the sanctity of life when it comes to people of color. Chicago s
population is 31.7% white, 32.9% Black, 28.9% Latino, and 5.5% Asian. However, the Task
Force reported that the city s police officers shoot Black residents at significantly
disproportionate rates. Between 2008 and 2015, of all people injured or killed in police related
shootings, 74% were Black, 14% were Hispanic, 8% were white and less than 1% were Asian.

It is one that everyone is familiar with due to its high profile coverage. Although this incident
occurred in St. Louis, Missouri, it is very relevant to police shootings all over the country. As a
short recap, police officer Darren Wilson shot and killed unarmed teen Michael Brown.
Ultimately, Darren Wilson was not charged with any crime. Wilson, like many officers before
him, argued that he was afraid for his life and therefore used his weapon in self defense.
Unfortunately, this argument has been heard many times after Michael Brown s death as well.
When Laquan McDonald was shot and killed in Chicago in 2014, Jason Van Dyke feared for his
life ; dash camera footage, though, showed otherwise. Police personnel and city officials even
went so far in this cover up as to pay Laquan s mother millions of dollars not to speak to the
media about what happened. Although video of the shooting was available in 2014, the video
itself was not released to the public until late 2015, after Rahm was re elected to mayoral office.
As more details surfaced, it then became clear to the public that not only did the officers and top
law enforcement attempt to hide this incident, but the Cook County State s Attorney was also
involved. I argue that had there been more diversity on the force, or in the very least sensitivity
training, maybe these officers would have seen a person and been more compassionate, instead of

Justice In The Odyssey
As Mahatma Gandhi once noted astutely, An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. Gandhi
s assertion challenges this moral code established in both the Odyssey and the Old Testament, just
as Aeschylus challenges the validity of vendetta as a successful technique for maintaining societal
order in his Oresteiatrilogy. The revenge ethic plays a key role in the story because it makes
justice the personal responsibility of the person insulted; the killer must be killed, and the act of
retribution must be carried out by the most appropriate person preferably a close blood relative. It
is a radically straightforward basis for justice, linking retribution to the family and its collective
honor. Like the storied blood feud between the Hatfields... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Case Study Of Krispy Kreme And Dunkin Donuts
It is an essential to have clear understanding of an organization s purposes to understand how
organization works and its method of working can be improved. Usually, general objectives lead to
clarification of purposes and responsibilities at all level of organizations. Management is the
process of communicating, coordinating and accomplishing action in the pursuit of organization
objectives while managing relationship with stakeholders, technologies and other artifacts, both
within as well as between organizations. (Kinicki, 2012)
Here, I would have used Fayol s Principle as the management approaches. According to Robert
Kreitner (2012), Fayol recognized there was no limit to the principles of management. And, Fayol s
work was one of the primary comprehensive statements of a general management theory. He
proposed that there were six primary functions of management and fourteen principles of
management. Based on his point of view, a manager must attain proper feedback process in order to
make necessary adjustments and must analyze the deviations. There are four management
functions; to forecast and plan, to organize, to command or leading, and to coordinate. As

Between The World And Me
Independent Reading Project Quarter Two: Between the World and Me
Summary
Inspired by James Baldwin s 1963 classic The Fire Next Time, Ta Nehisi Coates Between the
World and Me powerfully educates readers on what it means to be African American in the United
States today. It is formatted as a letter to his son, Samori, at the age of fifteen. It s intention being to
help him through navigate the world as a young African Americanmale. He does this through
sharing personal experiences and analyzing current events, with regards to historical context. By
communicating his ideas in this format, he is uniquely able to more broadly depict the concept of
racism in America. Where both memoirs and textbooks fall short, Between the World and Me does
not.
Object 1 Dollar Bill (significant concept) The first object I chose is a one dollar bill. Currency
blatantly represents wealth, that which Coates describes as coming from the oppression of
another. It is also used as a form of payment, showing the price paid by 250 years of people born
into slavery. Lastly, with George Washington inscribed on the front and In God... Show more

One statement in particular that stood out to me was: To yell black on black crime is to shoot a
man and then shame him for bleeding (111). Statements like these tell you more than simply what
happened, but why it happened and how it will impact or result in other events; they give valuable
first hand perspective on the oppression of African Americans throughout our history, and the
effects it has on their communities. The term black on black crime is used sporadically in media,
depending on the source. I already knew it was not a fair statement to use, and involved
problematic wording, but the metaphor used to describe it gave me insight on it s implications that

The Black Cat
Symbolism in Edgar Allan Poe s quot;The Black Cat quot;
#9;In Edgar Allan Poe s quot; The Black Cat, quot; symbolism is used to show the narrator s
capacity for violence, madness, and guilt. quot; The Black Cat, quot; written by Edgar Allan Poe
serves as a reminder for all of us. The Capacity for violence and horror lies within each of
us, no matter how docile and humane our disposition might appear. In this story, the narrator
portrays a man who is fond of animals, had a tender heart, and is happily married. Within several
years of his marriage, his general temperament and character make a radical
alteration for the worse. He grows moodier, more irritable, and more inconsiderate of the feelings of
others. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The color of the spot, white,is an archetypal symbol that has a universal meaning of purity and
light. This white spot on the heart of black cat two is symbolic of the purity of black cat one s
heart. The white spot changed to the form of gallows, which is symbolic of the guilt of the
narrator. If you remember the narrator hung black cat one with a noose or gallows. So basically the
white spot serves a punishment inflicted by black cat two.
#9;The first black cat, the second black cat, and the white spot are the three most important
symbols in this story. Each one of these symbols represents the evil and perverseness of the
narrator. Black cat one let s the reader get a clear understanding of
the narrator s evil heart and unwillingness to except love. The second black cat gives the reader an
insight of the narrator s guilt for what he has done to black cat one. And the white spot helps the
reader to realize what type of punishment black cat two is inflicting
on the narrator. The basic function of black cat one, black cat two, and the white spot is to
illustrate the narrator s increasing capacity for evil and his descent into

Sweeney Todd Analysis
Sweeney Todd 2005 Review Sweeney Todd is composed by the spectacular Stephen Sondheim,
and this production was directed by John Doyle in 2005. This Musical is about a barber
Benjamin Barker/Sweeney Todd who s sent away by Judge Turpin because he wanted Todd s
wife. Todd is told by his friend Mrs. Lovett that his wife died and his daughter Johanna is being
kept by Turpin who is planning to marry her. Todd vows that he will take revenge on The Judge.
As Sweeney awaits his revenge, he works as a barber and kills his clients while Mrs. Lovett runs a
meat pie shop and uses the people Todd kills for the pies. I will be discussing the performances
and the way the pieces are written. Therefore, I will not be able to talk about each track.

Lovett has just told Todd what had happened to his wife and daughter, and Todd is incredibly
angry and ready to kill the judge. After, Mrs. Lovett gives a case of Todd s old razors to him and
says you could be a Barber again . The song starts with a repetitive, hypnotic motion in the piano.
Also vocally this is awfully rigid and has a whispery quality to it. Todd goes into a trance like
state and the only entity he can focus on is the razors. As the song goes on Mrs. Lovett chimes
in with telling Todd how she fancies him, but Todd remains fully invested in his razors almost as
if they were another human being. The number closes with Todd in immense triumph as he
states at last my right arm is complete again . The performances in this number are okay,
Michael Cerveris has a fine grasp of this character. The joy is heard in his voice towards the
conclusion of the song when he s talking about what he will achieve with the razors. Yet
throughout the song he s incredibly staccato on his sections where he should be legato, it s fairly
distracting. While Patti LuPone has an odd way of shaping her vowels, this makes it difficult to
hear her text. Also the speed in the section where Todd and Lovett are singing together is too
slow. It s a point in immense joy for both of them and the music should be faster because of that.
Overall the track isn t the best version of My Friends out there, however it s still enjoyable to hear

I Will Revisit Russon s Definition Of Memory, And Three...
In this paper I will revisit Russon s definition of memory, and three of the aspects that he presents
as important in the memory process. I will also argue that our body play an important role for our
remembering, as does the objects we interact with. As well as present my position on Russon
description of memory demonstrating that Russon s description is indeed relatable to the actual
human experience. Russon s definition of memory is not subjected to one main idea, but rather an
intertwining of related ideas pertaining to experience. He views memory as, What we experience as
the determinateness of objects that communicates to us what we can and cannot do, (Russon 41).
To emphasize, we experience our world through interactions with the world s objects. The contact
made with these objects provides an identity for them that later communicates to us about ourselves.
Russon present this idea of memory based on two types of memory, implicit and explicit. Implicit
memory are memories that we remember in part, while explicit memory are those that we
remember completely. An example that Russon gives in another instance that connects to this is the
idea of him terminating his lease and having a few weeks remaining is inscribed in everything
within his apartment. Each object represents the identity of the future commitment of moving
whether pervasively or occasionally. However Russon thinks that for us to remember there are
certain aspects that needs to be involve. First is

Hypocrisy at its Finest
The topics of religion and hypocrisy are the major themes of Tartuffe. The play is centered
around a man called Tartuffe, who claims to be a pious and holy man whose every action is based
to please God and follow religion tirelessly. There has been no loftier soul since time began claimed

Moliere writes about.
At the beginning of the play Cleante has a monologue defining how a truly Godly man would act;
without showmanship or want of praise but simply doing what is right because it is right.
So there is nothing, I think, so odious as the whitewashed outside of a specious zeal; as those
downright imposters, those bigots whose sacrilegious and deceitful grimaces impose on others
with impunity, and who trifle as they like with all that mankind holds sacred; those men who,
wholly given to mercenary ends, trade upon godliness, and would purchase honour and reputation
at the cost of hypocritical looks and affected groans; who, seized with strange ardour, make use of
the next world to secure their fortune in this; who, with great affectation and many prayers, daily
preach solitude and retirement while they themselves live at Court; who know how to reconcile
their zeal with their vices; who are passionate, revengeful, faithless, full of deceit, and who, to work

Carlody Hobson Speech Analysis
Imagine living in a world that is seemingly against all that you are and all that you want to be.
Through modern stereotypes and accustomed oppression, the odds are working against minorities.
As a society we have become familiarized with the comfort of color blindness, this is a term used
for the ignorance that surrounds diversity issues today. Mellody Hobson, executive president of
Ariel Investments, is an African American woman that has chosen to confront the lack of
understandinginvolving diversity issues involving race, gender, sexuality, religion, socioeconomic
status, and education and tagging it as ColorBravery. Throughout her discussion, Hobson engages
and connects with her audiencethrough her personal stories, facial expressions, tone of voice, and
passion about diversity. Hobson sees her audience as individuals who are struggling to understand
the diversity issues that surround race, gender, and religion. She assumes that her audience has little
awareness of the institutionalized injustices minorities face everyday. With that being said, she does
not use her discussion to ridicule or judge them for not understanding the real problems involving
diversity, instead she focuses on opening their eyes to begin to understand the obstacles our society
needs to overcome in order to start celebrating diversity. Throughout her speech, Hobson infers that
her audience needs a little help grasping the significance of her anecdotes. For example, she starts

Consent For Marriage By Mr. Darcy
Willingness to consent for marriage with a loved one is a logical and emotional decision. In order
to sensibly bring two people together, domestic ideology encompasses genuine emotional interest.
During the analyzed passage, Mr. Darcy is proposing to Elizabeth for the second time. This
signifies personal growth within Mr.Darcy as he lets go of prejudice and doesn t let his pride get
the best of him. Rather than continuously critiquing each other, they allow emotion to influence
their thoughts. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth realize that they re not always initially correct, which
signifies a release of pride. The proposal demonstrates the joy that Mr. Darcy feels and conveys that
the combination of status and contract can create these immense amounts of happiness within a
person. The characteristics of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy combine within himself, as well as within
his marriagedue to the marrying of a genteel. The differences in the characteristics between Mr.
Darcy and Elizabeth demonstrate that lower classes can influence upper classes, and that each

unlike the first time that he proposed. He does not expect a yes simply because of status or due
to her being a woman. He values the opinion of someone who is lower class, and he feels it is
morally correct to show that he wants to be a gentleman. Mr. Darcy s second marriage proposal

Studies over forty years old have shown the effects of this abuse in children who were
institutionalized and emotionally neglected, as well as studies on young mothers with little
knowledge of child development. In 1975, a study was conducted by Dr. Byron Egeland to
examine families who were considered at risk for poor quality care for their children. It mostly
included families who were under conditions such as drug abuse, alcohol abuse, prostitution, or
domestic violence. They found that children who were born into psychologically abusive or
neglectful families, tend to be more withdrawn and highly dependent and to suffer the most severe
decline in mental and behavioral development as they get older (Brody) compared to children who
had physically abusive families. Dr. Egeland, along with his colleagues, also stressed the
importance of the fact that intervention, must start very early, before the mother has established a
pattern of interaction with the child and the child becomes part of that pattern (Brody), due to the
fact that even when young, children can become seriously affected by psychological abuse.
Psychological abuse, though not often recognized, has a serious effect on children and young

Threat of New Entrants The threat of new entrants is moderate. It is relatively easy for a company
to enter this market because there are not a lot of legal barriers. But a smaller company that has just
entered the market would have a tougher time competing with some of the larger companies an
obvious reason being that larger companies can have larger inventories. Another reason is that
larger companies can do things to weaken the smaller companies, such as offer discounts, sales
promotions, and increase spending on advertising. Since most of the companies in this industry are

Innovation is probably the most important driver of change in most industries, especially ones that
are saturated. Dick s continuous innovation has helped them be one of the leaders in the sporting
goods industry for over a decade.
Their retail stores are far superior to their competition in size and appearance.
You get the feel of a Bass Pro Shops when walking through the tall wooden doors, entering into a
spacious two story building.
Most other sporting goods retailers stores such as Academy Sports have the feel of a decorated
warehouse are do not provide the customer with an exciting experience.
Some of the Dick s stores even have an indoor rock climbing wall for anyone who is up to the
challenge for only a small fee. This unique feature just adds another element to the store whether
you climb the wall or not.
Dick s has a rewards program, called ScoreCard rewards.
Customers get one point for every dollar they spend. Once a customer gets 300 points they get $10
off their next purchase.
This type of rewards system is getting more and more common because retailers are trying to gain
customer loyalty by offering them incentives to come back and shop. They also have to stay up to
date on the new innovation within the sporting goods products and apparel that they carry.
New products come out that are hot sellers and new to the market and Dick s has to try and get that
particular item in their store.

Project Appraisal
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
PROJECT APPRAISAL
Every organisation has to examine the viability of each project before it provides financial
assistance. It has to ensure that the project will generate sufficient funds on the resources invested
in it. With the opening of new factory outlet, the study of viability of a project has become more
vital for financing a project.
Project appraisal the process of critical evaluation of all the six faces of the project appraisal
namely: 1. Technical analysis
2. Financial analysis
3. Legal analysis

government will be analysed and this creates basis for further processes for the financial assistance.
3 Financial Analysis: Financial appraisal seeks to ascertain whether the proposed project will be
functionally viable in the sense of being able to meet the burden of servicing debt and whether the
proposed project will satisfy the return/expectations of those who provide funds Financial appraisal
involves the following terms. o Capital cost of projects and sources of finance
o Financial projections Cash flow and profitability estimates
o Ratio analysis
o Breakeven point
o Discounted cash flow techniques net present value and internal rate of return.
Capital cost
Estimation of the capital cost of a project provides the basic information to decide its pattern of
financing and profitability. If the cost of the project is not estimated correctly, the preparation of
cash flow and profitability estimates will be futile exercise because the amount of depreciation,
interest and dividend will change with the change in capital cost of the project. An entrepreneur has
to tie up the resources according to the estimates of the cost of the project. If there is an overrun in
the cost of the project, the entrepreneur may find it difficult to arrange for additional resources and it

The effectiveness of banana stem juice as a natural coagulant for treatment of turbid water was
investigated. The main parameter studied was Turbidity. Coagulation experiments using jar test
was performed with a flocculation system where the effects of Turbid Water pH, Retention time
as well as Dosage of Banana Stem Juice on coagulation was examined. A Three Level Factorial
Design in Response Surface Methodology (RSM) using Design Expert software was applied in
the model analysis. Consequently, most of the actual and predicted values closely agreed with
various regression coefficients. The characteristics of the Turbid water was determined with TSS
at 222 mg/L, turbidity at 143 NTU and COD at 89.36 mg/L, BOD at 44.68 mg/L, DO1 at 11.7
mg/L, DO5 at 6.93 mg/L, pH at 7, Temperature at 27.3В°C. Turbidity reduction using Banana Stem

Imperial Dominance In Canada
England/Britain and France were involved in many epic struggles for imperial dominance in the
colonial North America between c. 1600 and 1763. They had many ways that they had to shape

Rap Music Research Paper
Rap Music Rap music has never been seen as a positive artistry by the media, but maybe the
media is just doing what it always does and portrays everything with a poor opinion and rap
music really doesn t influence someone s behavior as much as the media would like you to think.
Socially everyone thinks that kids that listen to rap music are more prone to violence and abuse
towards women and that is how it has been looked at in our culture, when really it s not the actually
listening of the music than it is the rap videos themselves that portray the misogynistic views and
create misogynistic attitudes within the audience that lead to a more accepting view of violence
against women. Rap is stereotyped into a category that the only people that... Show more content on

Since culture is our shared reality, created and sustained through common experience, American
experience is now largely that which is shaped and maintained by the mass media... Violent
music lyrics have been shown to increase aggressive thoughts and feelings.... This creation of
culture through popular media was sadly exemplified recently when radio personality Don Imus
referred to a college women s basketball team as nappy headed ho s. Sadder still, many
responded that the racist and sexist language was acceptable because that type of language is
used by minorities in rap music. Unfortunately racist and sexist slurs influence real people, for
example sending the message to girls that this is how our society views them and causing issues
with self esteem and identity. (Karen Dill, 2013) As she said above the radio host described
college basketball girls nappy headed ho s which would get any radio host now fired immediately
without a second thought. Later on in her article she explains how people believe that the media
does not affect them, when in saying that it still does. Karen list s five reasons why people
misperceive that the media affects them: Person s natural tendency to reject the notion that our
habits are harmful, a mistaken view of how media effects work, that media are produced primarily
to entertain us, that media do not affect the viewer. She ends the writing with wise saying. Our
country is expanding and granting more freedom but you cannot be granted freedom from
consequences, tying that together with another wise quote, you reap what you sow. If you want
peace, be peaceful. If you want justice, be just. If you start taking in hate and violence into your

The Influence Of Dragons On East Asian Culture
Dragons are prevalent in myths all across the world. Eastern countries in particular hold dragons
in the highest regard in their cultures. The dragons of East Asian legend have sweeping powers.
They breathe clouds, move the seasons, and control the waters of rivers, lakes, and seas. They are
linked with yang, the masculine principle of heat, light, and action, and opposed to yin, the
feminine principle of coolness, darkness, and repose. Dragons have been part of East Asian culture
for more than 4,000 years. In the religious traditions of Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism, they
have been honored as sources of power and bringers of rain. (amnh.org)
Dragons hold more significance in China than nearly anywhere else in the world. They are
usually depicted as brightly colored snakes with legs that, in legend, can be as small as a garden
snake or large enough to connect heaven and earth. These dragons are connected to divine and
auspicious powers that typically control disasters related to water, such as floods or hurricanes.
These powers make dragons a symbol of strength and power among the Chinese people, enough so

At the end of his life, Beowulf went to fight a dragon which he killed and then died from his

these dragons became a symbol of treachery, danger, and the unknown in Europe. Unlike in Asia
however, dragons were never as completely imbedded in the culture and minds of the people.
Tolkien s works, particularly the Hobbit, brought focus back onto a legend that was beginning to
fade. Now, modernly, dragons have become a staple of any work of fantasy. They are depicted on
television shows for children and for adults, they are in many fantasy novels, and are used in many

Group Process And Dynamics Analysis
During this past week in class, I was able to learn more about Group Process and Dynamics. In
this reflection, I will talk about the Building a House activity and what I learned about diversity
issues from this exercise. I will also give details on my observations linking them to behaviors
listed in our class Observation Grid paper. On Monday, we partook in the groupactivity Building a
House . Our instructions were to as a group build a house made out of Legos. Before the activity
we were each given a piece of paper with individual assignments written on them. We were told
that we could not share details about our assignments with the other group members. We were
split into two groups of three, Nataliya and Ms. Nadia we selected to be observers during this
exercise and were place on opposite sides of the room. In my group it was Jorge, Farrah and myself

Since we couldn t communicate verbally I noticed that most of the communication during the
exercise consisted of visual cues such as body language. Gestures like hand signals, body signals
and eye movement were utilized by all group members. I noticed nearly every group member nod
and shake their heads many times to indicate agreements and disagreements. This reminded me of
the importance of being able to identify nonverbal communication through body language. People
say a lot by the body language and posture (are they leaning in, slouched over and tired, agitated
with their arms crossed, etc.); their behavior movements (nervous twitched, tapping of the foot,
wringing of their hands, etc.); and the direction of their gaze and attention. (Sage,

The Mayan Civilization and Culture
Many of the cultures that we have today have evolved from past events. Such as language it was
something that became known throughout the years. Some of the languages that came from that
were English, Spanish, German, and Latin to name a few. These languages were derived more past
civilizations. One important civilizationthat is known for having great success is the Mayan
civilization. The Mayan civilization is known for many things like they fully developed written
language, art, architecture, math and some other factors. Historians have said that they don t know
an exact date of when this civilization rose up but they do mention that it flourished for about 2000
years. Although staring in 250 AD it is said that it was the start of their high point and it continued
until the arrival of the Spanish in 1524. The Maya area covers southern Mexico and northwestern
Central America. According to Sharer the area is divided into three regions: the Pacific coastal
plain to the south, the highlands in the center, and the lowlands to the north. Even though these
three regions were under the same civilization they all practiced different religious rituals. Religion
plays a big role in every civilization. Some civilizations tend to praise more than one god and they
always mention that what they have is thanks to their god. When they see things going wrong they
often say that their god is punishing them because they did something that the god/s did not like.

The World Of The Columbian Exchange
In the time before modern transportation, world exploration was a prolonged and laborious
process. Despite these hardships, many countries still put a large portion of their funds and
resources toward this process. This spawns the question of why countries were so willing to put
forth this effort to explore lands they had yet ventured to. The underlying answer to this question is
the benefits provided by trade. Trade served as enough motivation to drive the Portuguese and
Spanish to sail across the Atlantic Ocean, as well as around the Indian subcontinent. This sparked the
conjuncture we know today as the Columbian Exchange. This was the first event in history that
truly exhibited international trade. Today, this term of international... Show more content on

This capture allowed them to fund Christopher Columbus s journey across the Atlantic Ocean. This
journey began with the primary intention of uncovering a new route to China. If they wished to
open trade with the Chinese, it would require a more efficient way of transport between the
countries. During their trip, they made an unintended stop in what would become America. After
landing, the Spanish were soon met by the natives of America. The acts they committed against the
Native Americans were treacherous. In an account by Fray BartolomГ© de las Casas, he describes
these horrors committed. In one particularly gruesome excerpt BartolomГ© alleges that they killed
an infinite number of souls, and cut off the hands and noses of countless women and men, and
others they threw to the savage dogs, who ate them and tore them to pieces (Casas). As these
horrors were occurring, similar activities were on the horizon in Africa. The work of the Portuguese
in Africa was far from complete. They continued setting up trading stations spanning across the west
coast of Africa, still with the intention of finding gold.
They would soon become interested in a new form of trade which would become much more
valuable to them than gold. They eventually stumbled upon the Kingdom of Kongo beginning in
the 1480 s. The state was pleased with the prospect of an alliance with Portugal and welcomed these
outsiders. Initially the city accepted guns, cattle, and horses from

  • 2. Pro Life Be the change you wish to see in the world is a great quote to live by because it guides you to help others and make an impact. I use this quote to guide my life personally because I want to be able to use what I believe in, and my goals to make a change. Abortion is a very common debate in the world, and it has been this way for hundreds of years. There are two main arguments when it comes to abortion, most people are either Pro Life or Pro Choice. People that are pro life are against abortions and believe that every human life has equal worth and should have the opportunity to live. While people who are pro choice believe that women should have the choice to decide if they wanted to keep the child that they had growing inside of them or if she wants to terminate the pregnancy. I am pro life because I believe that abortions are used as a way out of something that people are in no hurry to try and prevent. I think that as a society we focus on sex as a thing that everyone does and that makes young adults think that they need to be joining what everyone is doing. This ends up creating a child that neither the mother nor the father are capable of taking care of, and the mother feels her only way out of the situation is to terminate the pregnancy in the form of an abortion. I want my impact on the world to be less of a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I also need to learn why young adults are so susceptible to peer pressure. • 3. Should Shakespearian Text Should Not Be Taught In Schools... Why Shakespearian Text Shouldn t be Taught Have you ever read a page of a book in another language and then asked why you do not understand it? That is how must high school students feel while reading Shakespearian texts like Romeo and Juliet , Hamlet , and Taming the Shrew . Some people think that Shakespearian text should be taught in schoolbecause of the historic, while others like myself think that Shakespeare should not be taught because in today society, people do not speak in old English and students today do not understand the language use. One reason why Shakespeare texts should not been taught in high schoolis other text with different cultural backgrounds can be taught instead. While I do understand, Shakespearian text teaches much about the time period in which it was written but, this information can be taught in history class and not in an English class. In an article by The Washington Post, a teacher that talks about how there are more works of literature then Shakespeare that teach the same thing. When the author writes Because, she said, she doesn t like his work and thinks that their other work of literature from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, books like To Kill a Mocking Bird, The Catcher in the Rye, and Emma can be substitute in for Shakespeare texts. In an article by American Theater, the author states, Yes, Shakespeare was dense, hard to read and comprehend, but I learned things from him. (Holtman). After this the author goes on about how being taught Shakespeare expanded his vocabulary and open him to topics like mythology and philosophy and how he became a better person reading through lines of poetry and dialogue. I do agree with Mr. Holtman when he says this but if this response to text can be achieved more quickly using texts that make more sense to the readers, being high school students, while being engaging and interesting to ... • 4. Societal Issues Affecting African Americans Set in the 1960 s, The Help, emphasizes the societal issues affecting African Americans in the past and shows eerily similar parallels to our society today. The 1960 s consisted of a multitude of protests and movements preaching civil disobedience and resistance. This attitude and behavior, led to the rise of the Civil Rights Movement which is also a major aspect of the film. The Help, delivers a message that stresses the dangers and paranoia that may be associated with a changing society that is focused on retaining it s original values regardless of what may be occurring around them. Eventually change does take charge and while acceptance is not immediate, slowly but steadily toleration does begin to take root. Released in 2011, the film reflects the alterations in society but also displays the changes that have yet to occur. The Help, showed the move forward and reluctant path to acceptance and lenience. Many White individuals aided African Americans in their fight to gaining full civil rights while others did not bother to hide their disapproval and continued to believe that African Americans were inferior therefore did not deserve civil liberties. While as a society, we have come far, there continue to be many aspects that have yet to change and African Americans continue to face discrimination and inequality today. The film reveals the difficulties of bringing about change and altering the mindsets of deepset individuals. The film is based upon the original novel, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Big 5 Mass Extinction Events In Research Throughout the lifetime of the Earth, there have been various scientists who have hypothesized various extinction events. The following essay will cover the five major extinction events, otherwise known as the Big 5 Mass Extinction Events . According to Wikipedia (2016), a mass extinction is a widespread and rapid decrease in the amount of life on Earth. Such an event is identified by a sharp change in the diversity and abundance of multicellular organisms . The first major extinction event is said to have been the Ordovician Silurian mass extinction, 443 million years ago, which occurred during the end of the Ordovician period, and the start of the Silurian period (bbc.co.uk, 2014). This is the third largest mass extinction in the Earth s history, and there were two peak dying times during this period, separated my hundreds of thousands of years. The Ordovician is characterised by sea life, so creatures such as brachiopods, graptolites and trilobite populations were severely diminished. An ice age is said to be responsible for the death (endangerdspeciesinternational.org, 2011). The Late Devonian mass extinction is well known for having one of the most drastic extinction rates. During this extinction period, which spans over a few million years, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, along with the dinosaurs there were many other creatures such as pterosaurs, ammonites and many flowering plants that were wiped out as well. It is said that a combination of dropping sea levels and flood basalt eruptions were one of the causes (Murcia, 2015). The proverbial final nail in the coffin was a meteorite strike, near the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico, which caused the most significant damage. • 6. Mill s Harm Principle Mill s harm principle of One should not interfere with other people s lives unless those people are doing harm to others (p.G3), is in other words, if a person do not cause harm to others, there is no reason to prevent his/her actions. Mill s belives that an individual is the supreme sovereign of his /her own acts. Even when the decisions taken may be some harm upon him/her, the responsibility of these actions is only on the individual. When it comes to drug legalization, many people think that drugs should be legalized. It would stop drug traffic, its use would be safer, and would be a better drug control under the state and government. Obviously, the harm principle is linked to this opinion due to, If a person does no one else harm by a moderate drug intake, then he or she should be allowed to continue using drugs (Rosenstand, 256). Gun control is another polemic topic. If an individual buy a gun to protect him/herself, apparently do not cause harm to others. But, what about when an individual buy 30 different guns and kill 50 people leaving other 500 wounded? This is the case in the recent shoorting in Las Vegas, Nevada. How is possible for a man to buy 30 guns without any authority interference? These shooting are constantly happened in the United States, a country in which a gun control exists, what would happened if there wasnot a gun control? Of course, Mill s harm principle fail in its application in this case. Peraphs Mills applied his harm principle only to adults and in control of his mental faculties (Rosenstand, 255). Many people think that to wear a helmet should a personal desition and should be not mandatory. After all, if harm is cause for not wearing a helmet, it will be a personal harm and no a general harm for society, People have the right to chose their own poison (Rosenstand, 255). Certainly, to consume a drug, buy a gun, or wear a helmet are personal decisitions. But pleople should take into account that legalized or not, there are still drug consumers; under control or not, people is still buying guns to harm others; and mandatory or not, people are still driving a bicycle or a motorcycle without wearing a helmet. Then, at the end of the day, as Mill stated, Over himself, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Human Relations Reflection The Research in Human Relations course guided me in the application mindset of my studies. Mindfully being able to break down information, from the statement of the issue to the analysis of data, to even an appropriate outcome that is beneficial to a particular field of study, is what this course promotes. Don Miguel Ruiz states in his novel, The Four Agreements, that we make different types of assumptions simply because we do not have the courage to ask questions (Ruiz Mills, 1997, p. 68). This course enables students to not only want to ask questions but also build on their incoming knowledge with the tools to support giving back to the field and community. I long to give back through the power of research in my given field, and upon taking this course I feel empowered to do just that. The Research in HR course set a solid foundation for APA stylewriting, which has not only benefitted me through graduate school but will continue to benefit me into my career path. Today, APA Style sets the bar that is well respected in journals, books, and electronic databases (American Psychological Association, 2012). I found this course beneficial because much like each of my other courses, it further refined my skillsets for my pursuit of clinical administrative work and research on autism and speech in the field of speech language pathology. Through each assignment, I became even more critical of the research I consumed. Being able to produce solid sources to help push my field of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Superman Heroes Vs Anti Heroes Essay Hey look! It s a bird, a plane, its Superman! The common phrase for a hero like Superman. But, what about anti hero Macomber, a character written by Ernest Hemingway in the book called The Short Happy Life? Throughout history we have seen millions of heroes and anti heroes. Heroes are people who sacrifice their lives to save others, while anti heroes does the same thing, only they lack the moral codes that heroes follow. They are both different because of one thing, their views about appearance. Appearance describes one s personality, strength, and gives them an honorable title. Heroes, like Superman, do not get caught up with their appearance, instead heroes would sacrifice their lives in order to save others. Unlike anti heroes, like Macomber,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We can see this happening when the narrator describes Maycomber. Maycomber is very tall, very well built if you do not mind that length of bone...He is also very good at court games (Hemingway 122). This quote shows that Maycomber is very fit and strongly built, but despite his strength, in reality he is really a coward as described in paragraph above. He focuses more on being the person who he looks like to be than what he actually is; a coward. Unlike superman who does not focus at all about his strength. When maturity was reached, he discovered that he could easily: raise tremendous weight (Siegel 4). This illustrates how superman is strong to the public s eye, but in reality he is also a coward. Be reasonable Lois. Dance with the fellow and then we ll leave right away (Siegel 10). Despite the fact that superman may be similar with Maycomber, Superman still save people s lives, instead of trying to keep glory like Macomber. With great strength, Superman uses it both as Superman and Clark Kent to save lives. Macomber uses his strength as a way to show people that he is strong and not actually demonstrating it in the story, again, showing us that heroes does not care much about appearance, they rather care about saving ... School and work can get really stressful and we often start to feel anxiety about meeting deadlines or pivotal determinations. Everyone can enjoy a vacation from time to time, and for many people the beach signifies relaxation and a great stress free environment. Touring places or doing activities with your family is a great way to forget about work and make great memories. Another great activity South Padre Island offers is horse back riding on the beach which offers different times of the day you can choose. Horseback riding is fun but what makes it more amazing is you can enjoy it while being on the beach. It is really a great time to enjoy with your family and just ride along the beach hearing the sound of the ocean. One of my other favorite activities that I love to visit every summer when we have the whole family down is Schlitterbahn Waterpark. It has amazing rides for the family to enjoy and cool down on a hot summer day. They recently opened an indoor pool which is really cool just in case you want a take a break from the hot sunny day. When You Have Already Mastered You Will Never Grow Analysis I agree with Ralph Waldo Emerson s statement that Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow. I agree with this because I believe that there is always room to grow in life and people always need to push themselves to the next level. Even once someone master something, they can always do better. There is nobody there telling people okay, you ve mastered this, you don t need to go any further ;however, many people think that once they ve reached a certain point they can just stop because they ve gotten that far. The problem is that people need to realize that even after a certain skill is mastered or they reach a certain point in life you still need to strive to be the best person they can... • 12. Biographical Interpretation Essay Many people view poems and other pieces of writing in different ways, there is no wrong or right way to interpret a work of someone, it merely your point of view; your opinions. In Sylvia Plath s poem Daddy , many could say that it was a about a hard relationship she had with her father, but how do we know? It could be about her father, husband, strong authority figure, or even God. But, as I read DaddyI got the strong sense that it was mostly about her father. The poem suggests that she had either an unhealthy relationship with him or she was angry with him for leaving her. In the poem, Plath says I have always been scared of you (41); I view this as she may not have had the best relationship with him. Maybe he was abusive or mean.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Daddy is a poem where Plath expressed her most personal feelings about her father and ultimately her husband also. In the poem, when Plath writes And then I knew what to do. / I made a model of you, / A man in black with a Meinkampf look. (63 65). It suggests that she possibly actually went to her father s grave and maybe she tried to dig up her father s bones to prove to her that he was really dead. Or, possibly these lines mean that she married someone who was a lot like him. She married someone who she could look at every day and who reminds her of her father. But, if this poem is about her sad relationship with him, why would she want to be reminded of him every day? This only makes me come to the conclusion that she did not have a horrible relationship with him, she was just angry with him for leaving her, for dying. As you can tell there can be many different interpretations for Sylvia Plath s poem Daddy . I believe that this poem is about Sylvia, who is angry with her father for dying and leaving her behind, who wants to express her feelings towards this in a poem. She writes deep, dark, meaningful, thoughts on her emotions and her actions to get back to him. I think that this poem is very unique in the way that she describes her life in the poem; she goes from when he died to when she was thirty, and along the way uses many analogies to describe her feelings. She also uses many symbolic phrases that could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a short recap, police officer Darren Wilson shot and killed unarmed teen Michael Brown. Ultimately, Darren Wilson was not charged with any crime. Wilson, like many officers before him, argued that he was afraid for his life and therefore used his weapon in self defense. Unfortunately, this argument has been heard many times after Michael Brown s death as well. When Laquan McDonald was shot and killed in Chicago in 2014, Jason Van Dyke feared for his life ; dash camera footage, though, showed otherwise. Police personnel and city officials even went so far in this cover up as to pay Laquan s mother millions of dollars not to speak to the media about what happened. • 26. I Will Revisit Russon s Definition Of Memory, And Three... In this paper I will revisit Russon s definition of memory, and three of the aspects that he presents as important in the memory process. I will also argue that our body play an important role for our remembering, as does the objects we interact with. As well as present my position on Russon description of memory demonstrating that Russon s description is indeed relatable to the actual human experience. Russon s definition of memory is not subjected to one main idea, but rather an intertwining of related ideas pertaining to experience. He views memory as, What we experience as the determinateness of objects that communicates to us what we can and cannot do, (Russon 41). To emphasize, we experience our world through interactions with the world s objects. The contact made with these objects provides an identity for them that later communicates to us about ourselves. Russon present this idea of memory based on two types of memory, implicit and explicit. Implicit memory are memories that we remember in part, while explicit memory are those that we remember completely. An example that Russon gives in another instance that connects to this is the idea of him terminating his lease and having a few weeks remaining is inscribed in everything within his apartment. Each object represents the identity of the future commitment of moving whether pervasively or occasionally. • 30. Carlody Hobson Speech Analysis Imagine living in a world that is seemingly against all that you are and all that you want to be. Through modern stereotypes and accustomed oppression, the odds are working against minorities. As a society we have become familiarized with the comfort of color blindness, this is a term used for the ignorance that surrounds diversity issues today. Mellody Hobson, executive president of Ariel Investments, is an African American woman that has chosen to confront the lack of understandinginvolving diversity issues involving race, gender, sexuality, religion, socioeconomic status, and education and tagging it as ColorBravery. Throughout her discussion, Hobson engages and connects with her audiencethrough her personal stories, facial expressions, tone of voice, and passion about diversity. Hobson sees her audience as individuals who are struggling to understand the diversity issues that surround race, gender, and religion. She assumes that her audience has little awareness of the institutionalized injustices minorities face everyday. With that being said, she does not use her discussion to ridicule or judge them for not understanding the real problems involving diversity, instead she focuses on opening their eyes to begin to understand the obstacles our society needs to overcome in order to start celebrating diversity. Throughout her speech, Hobson infers that her audience needs a little help grasping the significance of her anecdotes. For example, she starts her discussion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
