Animal Cruelty Is A Crime Against Humanity
In order to constitute animal cruelty as a Crime Against Humanity we must prove that society is
ignoring the violence towards them despite the research evidence, the government sanctions mass
killings of them, and that this type of violence affects humans on a large scale (Plant, Schaik, Gullone,
Flynn 2016). Although dispositional factors such as empathy and aggression may influence animal
cruelty, we must look at the environmental factors that lead to the negative effects from a macro level
perspective. In this analysis, I will review whether exposure to animal cruelty correlates with future
maladaptive behaviors and the damaging effects it may have when perpetrated at a large scale.
Part A: Exposure To Animal Cruelty And Its Negative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This proposes the idea of how actions of animal maltreatment are similar to actions of child or
domestic violence. The second reason stated in the book Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, and Animal
Abuse: Linking the Circles of Compassion for Prevention and Intervention, is that cowardly acts of
aggression against vulnerable members of the family are matters of power and control. The victims
can be of any size, age, gender, or species, it is simply a matter of the opportunity that presents itself
(Ascione Arkow 1999). Lastly, the book Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, and Animal Abuse: Linking
the Circles of Compassion for Prevention and Intervention, states that any act of aggression or
violence within the entire family can put the members of that family at risk. The dangers of this
violence may also reach out as far as the community and its children (Ascione Arkow 1999).
An example of animal exploitation spilling over to other forms of violence is the relationship between
animal violence and intimate partner violence. In a study done in April 2007, researchers asked both
battered and non battered women to report whether their partner had any history of abusing their pets
at home. The women living in the domestic violence shelter were nearly 11 times more likely to report
that their partner had hurt or killed pets than the group of non battered women (Ascione, Weber,
Thompson, Heath, Maruyama 2016). They also found that for the group of battered

Environmental Issues and the Importance of Connecting With...
Biology and Connecting With Nature
Oh, what a catastrophe, what a maiming of love when it was made personal, merely personal feeling.
This is what is the matter with us: we are bleeding at the roots because we are cut off from the earth
and sun and stars. Love has become a grinning mockery because, poor blossom, we plucked it from its
stem on the Tree of Life and expected it to keep on blooming in our civilized vase on the table. D.H.
Lawrence
Beyond any doubt, studies now confirm that due to the stress that is flowing out of our disconnected
bleeding roots , complex personal, environmental and social problems are created. As humans we have
been inclined to look outside of ourselves at the polluted lakes and brown clouds ... Show more

The fundamental problem, as David Wann writes in his book Bio Logic, is that our brains and
technologies are still evolving. Although we are part of nature, humans have decided to go their own
way, separated from the realities learned in Biology. Recently both the physics and chemistry industry
formed an alliance and over looked the still evolving field of biology. The result of the coalition was
runaway chemicals, disappearing species, and an afflicted Human population. It is discouraging to see
the violence and the hatred that is growing in the industrial society. The destruction of the forests,
wildlife, and oceans, results in using the remains of the land for a variety of ends that are not at all
related to the spirit of those places. The spirit of Nature that one grows around. Our lives, along with
the lives of the global community, are at risk. We are wounding the earth and in return we are
suffering with it. Some examples of the distruction that humans are causing the earth and themselves
are; hunting and killing endangered species, development of nuclear weapons and thus nuclear waste,
increase of the risk of cancer due to industrial chemicals in the environment, and least but not last the
Ozone depletion problem. These are only few examples from an endless list.
People might think that this means we have to live like primitives. On the contrary, we do not

Robert Gross s The Minutemen And Their World
The Minutemen and Their World, by Robert Gross focuses directly on life and struggles in Concord in
the seventeen hundreds. He provides a fresh outlook and new style that works to the readers
advantage. This style of writing separates Gross from many other writers. As other writers deal with
the colonies as a whole, Gross separates and investigates on a more specific level. He focuses on the
lives of the farmers and ordinary towns people. This inside out approach allows the reader to see how
decisions effected everyday life for ordinary people. Gross s analytical style called new social history
is compounded by primary documents and statistical analysis of many records kept through out
history. This is to the reader s advantage, because not only does this it give us an accurate account of
what happened in the 1700 s, but it also provides numerical statistic to back up the authors
presentation of the truth. Gross also writes in a story like fashion that makes this book easy to read. ...

He explains that Concord has trouble staying united. The people of this city often don t agree on
important topics such as politics and religion. These topics were raised and discussed in town
meetings that were held in the center on the town. This posed a problem because Concords population
was scattered over many miles, and the trip to town became very tedious. This resulted in the
separation of the towns people and the foundation of multiple smaller communities that held counsels
of their own. These assemblies were not usually connected to the main counsel and did not always
fallow by the same rules. They often made rules that catered to their needs. Gross believes that the
problem lies on the leadership of

Why Is Oprah Winfrey A Good Role Model
What makes a person a great role model? Does it come with age? Maybe, it comes with character.
Role models are supposed to set an example for others to follow. I consider Oprah Winfrey a role
model because she is very hardworking, humble, and giving.
One reason why I consider Oprah a role model is because of how hardworking she is. For example,
how she rose from poverty to great prosperity. While she used to be poor, she is now a billionaire.
Also, how she continues to persevere through every task. No matter how difficult it is, she always
finds a way to achieve her goal. Especially how she jumps over any hurdles that are in her way,
overlooking problems that most people use as a crutch. In other words, Oprah is a leader and role

Vimy Ridge Outline
Veni, Vidi, Vici Vimy
(following the outline plan given in 3.10)
Introduction Paragraph:
World War 1, defining moment for Canadian nationalism. Did not escape unscathed, but the
participation in the war gave a stronger sense of nationhood.
Canada s contributions into WWI led to international recognition; other countries must recognize you
as sovereign.
The effort also brought acknowledgement to Canada s contributions and heroism on the battlefields of
Europe, giving Canada the shot to be a more mature, experienced nation because of the sacrifices
made by their armed forces.
The Battle at Vimy Ridge was the greatest assertion in Canadian sovereignty in WWI.

Whenever the Germans found the Canadian Corps coming into the line they prepared for the worst.
Body Paragraph 3:
April 12, Hill 145 fell, Vimy Ridge was won over by Canadian troops. The whole plan was entirely
devised by Canada and was independent of British thoughts.
The success in the capture of the ridge earned Canada a reputation of great strength and
accomplishment, and it was also the first time that Canada had ever planned its own attack without
British help. It was the first step towards Canada s independence and sovereignty.
Even under British rule, Canadian troops planned, rehearsed, followed through, and defeated the
Germans at Vimy Ridge under the command of Canadian officers and officials.
Although the victory came with a great cost, with more than 10,000 killed and wounded, it helped
prove Canada in front of other world countries.
Concluding Paragraph:
I believe that the effort put into it by Canada gave the world a chance to recognize Canada s
contributions and heroism after the battles they fought and won on the European battlefields.
Canada was given the chance to be perceived as a mature, wiser nation through the sacrifices it made
during the war.
The Battle at Vimy ridge was the exceptional proclamation of Canadian sovereignty in WWI.

The Citizen Genet Affair Analysis
The Citizen Genet affair not only exhibits a great foreign disrespect towards the beliefs and authority
of our president, but is a heinous attempt to deteriorate the very structure that keeps our nation running
smoothly: trade. As I have previously stated, maintaining peace and focusing on trade are of
overriding importance, and it is vital for us to maintain peace with Britain in order to forge a strong
trading relationship overseas. Genet s demands for our militaristic and financial aid infringed upon
said peace, and as Washington explained, would do far more harm than good if followed. Similarly, a
success on Genet s part to garner our support in organizing attacks against the Spanish would disallow
us to reap the benefits of Mississippi

The Controversial Theory Of Evolution
The controversial theory of evolution has been prevalent in the minds of scientists, religious leaders,
and those who follow since Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace first made the ideas officially
known in 1858. The theory they proposed was that the universe and all organisms within it is
constantly changing and adapting to the world around them since the beginning of time. Since Darwin
s and Wallace s theories were shared, there has been constant disagreement and debate between the
science world and the religious world regarding evolution. Some science and religious advocates
agree that there is the possibility of both the scientific and religious beliefs on how the world came
about co exiting. However, some religious groups, like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the many examples that support this idea that organisms evolve and change over time is the
finding of the Tiktaalik; though it is an unknown species it has traits that are similar to reptiles,
amphibians, and birds that exist today. Because of fossil findings like the Tiktaalik scientists no longer
have doubts about evolution and it s continuing occurrence (Alberto 2008).
In the 20th century, with the development of the science of genetics biologists began understanding
the mechanics of how traits are passed down to different generations and how they are altered through
the discovery of DNA and its major importance. They learned that parts of DNA from each parent are
passed down to the offspring. Mutations of DNA, which cause alterations of species, can also occur
when traits are being passed down to the offspring. Mutations in DNA can cause the offspring to have
difficulties surviving and eventually lead to the extinction of the species. On the other hand, mutation
of DNA can affect the offspring positively and change its traits to be stronger and a better survivor in
that certain environment which would eventually lead to a growth in population of the certain species.
Mutations in DNA can also be neutral and have no effect of the offspring s traits. This battle with
nature and survival through DNA lead to the foundation of the idea of Natural Selection (Alberto
2008). Natural selection is survival of the fittest , the

stories show wanting to let go and give up. But at the same time they wanted to give up for different
reasons, both eventually dying or close to death. Both having to deal with horrible conditions and they

Thurston High School Shooting Research Paper
The Thurston High School shooting took place on May 21, 1998 by Kipland Kinkel at the age of 15.
He killed many during the shooting, not knowing if what he did was clearly thought out. He grew up
in a family that seemed to be very happy, but that was not how he was feeling inside when all he felt
was sadness. He received weapons as a gift and hung around with people that had a bad influence on
him. Even though he had a depressive disorder and knowing that his head wasn t working right, it was
not a good enough excuse for the crime that he committed.
Kipland Kinkel killed his father because his father was disappointed from finding out he had a fully
loaded, stolen gun in his locker and got into serious trouble because of it. However, his mother

National Labor Relations Board (NLRB)
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) is an independent federal agency provided with the
power to preserve the rights employees have to organize and to remedy violations if so called for. In
addition, the agency was tasked with the prevention of unfair labor practices committed by private
sector employers and unions. The National Industrial Recovery Act initiated the NLRB, which
protected joint bargaining rights for unions. President Franklin D. Roosevelt later established the
National Labor Board that initiated 20 regional boards that handled the massive caseload, that later

The board consists of five members, who act as a quasi judicial body that make decisions based upon
cases of unfair labor. The board is compromised of more than thirty regional offices that conduct
elections, investigate charges, and establish whether to dismiss, settle, or issue complaints. The
jurisdiction of the counsel s power is responsible for investigating and prosecuting claims that suggest
practices of unfair labor. The Counsel is also found to be independent of the Board but once the Board
has made a decision it becomes the General Counsel s duty to sustain the decisions of the Board, even
if the Counsel advocated towards the opposite position. The National Labor Relations Board focuses
on employees of the private sector and the postal service. Other than these two jurisdictions the board
has no authority over airline, agricultural, governmental, or railroad employees. To be able to process
charges, parties must first file against the employer or the union with a regional office who will then
examine the complaint. If the complaint proves valid it is then taken before an Administrative Law

Interconnectedness In Let The Great World Spin By Colum...
Let the Great World Spin, demonstrates throughout how each of our lives are connected to each other
all around the world whether we live in the same city or miles apart, whether we know each other or if
we are strangers. Everything overlaps and affects everyone in the world in some way. This
interconnectedness that is displayed throughout the novel is a huge theme and point that many might
miss upon reading this novel. Colum McCann, the author of Let the Great World Spin, developed a
intricate connectedness in the lives of each of his characters in the novel, it is through this that he
unites his characters together either physically and mentally. By doing this, the author develops an
idea that two or more very different life paths can cross and become intertwined with one another in a
way that can change the direction of someone s life; in other words, the people around us, even
strangers, can in some way, meaningfully influence us on accident without even knowing it. One
person s decision has many unknown and known effects. First example of how the author uses
connectedness as the point of this novel is how Ciaran and Lara end up getting married later in the
novel. At the beginning of the novel neither of the two characters know anything about the other s
existence until the car crash that ends Ciaran s brothers life that Lara and her ex husband, Blaine, were
involved in. It is through their grief that they get to know each other and learn to forgive themselves
and learn to move on. Had not Lara and Blaine not been the ones involved in the accident as far as we
know, Ciaran and Lara would not have met nor ever gotten married. A second example of the the
connection between characters is the connection Gloria and Claire share between each other, which
leads to Gloria and Jaslyn s connection in addition to Jaslyn and Claire s connection after Gloria dies.
Gloria and Claire s connection begins with the deaths of their sons in the Vietnam War. Their
connections spreads across a delicate and painful time and space as results of both having to deal and
cope with the tragic events with their sons and having it change their lives as they know it. Both
women are in a support group with other women who are also

Cost effectiveness of a new technique for a Common surgical procedure
In this present era of technological revolution, a scientific breakthrough or an advancement is a
common event. It is a tough task for any organization to maintain the balance between staying ahead
with the scientific know how and aligning the cost effectiveness of each intervention, which they are
accountable for, without compromising highest levels of patient management, safety and care.
Therefore, any new technique has to be cross examined not only for the robust clinical effectiveness as
to its competitors and also to justify its economic worthiness.

critical analysis of the clinical and cost effectiveness of the intervention. It has two parts
a. Systematic review of literature
b. Economic evaluation / Cost effectiveness analysis.
3) Appraisal Appraisal committee provides evidence based on analytic report and proposes
recommendations.
Defining scope
1) This is one of the integral preliminary steps in evaluating a new technique. It defines framework for
appraisal and determines issues of interest. The following steps are involved:
a. Cohort involved with the disease condition
b. Level at which intervention is proposed like community/hospital
c. Cost effectiveness to the organization
d. Analysis of outcome measures with the potential comparators
e. Defines efficient time period in which effects and cost can be analyzed
f. Identifies the evidence base from which data is collected
g. Highlights social concerns of equality along with maintenance of quality of life outcome measures.
Systematic review of literature
A comprehensive evidence base forms the backbone of a systematic appraisal. Systematic evidence
gathering is done to minimize deficiencies database and quantification of limitations in database is
analyzed with reflection of uncertainty in the results. A meta analysis of all the evidence is done and
critically appraised.

Recidivism Is The Act Of A Person
Recidivism is the act of a person repeating an undesirable behavior after they have experienced
negative consequences. Recidivism refers to a person s relapse into criminal behavior and is measured
by criminal acts that resulted in rearrest, reconviction or return to jail within a three year period
following the criminal s release. Approximately 6 in 10 released inmates are rearrested or
reincarcerated within three years of release from prison (The Bureau of Planning, Research and
Statistics, 2013). Many criminals go to jail after doing time because they find it hard to fit back in with
the normal life due to returning to high risk places and finding a job. In order to eliminate high
recidivism with the jail system, it is necessary to provide education and vocational training. Drug
addiction typically propels the criminal behavior of inmates whom recidivate soon after release. Many
prisoners report commit their offense while under the influence of drugs. Recidivism rates for drug

The Keiserschlacht or Emperor s Battle
In 1914, General Erich Ludendorff, Germany s key commander in World War I, along with General
Paul von Hindenburg, strategically placed the German Army in a series of three 25 mile trenches in
central France. This new position gave the German s a false sense of security, which led them to
believe that they would win World War I. At first, the onslaught and brute force of the offensive
proved itself well. The Kaiserschlacht, or Emperor s Battle, quickly turned around due to lack of
supplies and heavy casualties. Since the Central Powers were becoming more confident, they made
more mistakes and thus began losing battles and eventually the war. Greater numbers and strength of
the Allied Powers ultimately led to the slaughter and defeat of the Germans under Generals
Ludendorff and Hindenburg. Germany had the chance to end the war before the resources from the
United States could be deployed into France and Britain. In an advantage by numbers, fearless leader
Ludendorff set off to gain land for Germany and defeat the Allied powers once and for all. The
Germans knew that they had to conquer Europe before the Americans could train soldiers and ship
men and supplies to the front lines. The addition of Americans to the Allied Powers would
significantly impact the outcome of the war. Germany still believed that they could win the war.

The Patient Safety Concern And Quality Improvement Issue (...
Falls in a health care setting are costly to the patient, the health care facility and may affect the
reimbursement that insurance gives to hospitals, yet they are preventable. Falls can be minor with just
a few bumps and bruises or they can be major which can result in death. Not only are falls harmful to
the patient but there is a lot of money and time that gets added up after a fall occurs *** There are
many factors as to why a fall could take place, but being aware of the risk that a patient is a fall risk
from the beginning can help avoid a fall from ever occurring. Accurately identifying a patient as a fall
risk and communicating to other staff within 24 hours of admission is key to help in the prevention of
falls.
Current Knowledge of the Patient Safety Concern/Quality Improvement Issue (State and National
Context)
Falls are one of the most common inpatient adverse events. According to the World Health
Organization, a fall is defined as an event that results in a person coming to rest inadvertently on the
ground or floor or other lower level (WHO 2016). In 2012, the cost of fall injuries totaled more than
$36 billion. As the population ages, the financial toll for older adult falls is projected to reach $59.6
billion by 2020. (NCQA 2015). Fall related injuries account for up to 15 percent of rehospitalizations
in the first month after discharge from hospital (Currie). Based on data from 2000, total annual

Employee Retention In Nursing Practice
Introduction:
In nursing research is crucial for nurses in delivering care for patients. Today, nurses are accepting the
requirements of evidenced based practice into their clinical areas and also for decision making.
Researchers had argued that regardless what discipline the healthcare providers belongs too; it is an
obligation for all of them to strive and extend the body of knowledge for better patients outcomes
(Polit Hungler, 2001). As for nursing, there is a lot of knowledge can be gained by nurses via research
studies. Globally the ultimate goal in healthcare is to facilitate patients to reach the highest level of
health status that would allow them to participate in the social and economic life of the community
that lives in. To achieve these goals, the healthcare industries need to adapt the best practice approach
for patients care. Best practice is adopted via research; the search scientific knowledge is indeed
strongly supported by nationwide (Lea, Williams Donahue, 2005).
In current nursing practice the used of EBP is not something new to nurses. It is believe that every

the citizens? Are politicians or governments benefitted from misuse of maps more often than not?

zones, it can be financially costly to residents. From Senator Schumer s news

The Passage of Time and Life in The Swimmer, by John Cheever
Having written a multitude of short stories and novels, author, John Cheever, has showcased his
incredible writing abilities multiple times throughout his career. Even as a child, Cheever outwardly
expressed his desire to write. As proven by his longstanding career, Cheever s thirst for writing
remained with him throughout his entire life. In perhaps his most famous piece of work, The
Swimmer, Cheever s impeccable writing ability is showcased brilliantly. Although originally set out to
be a novel, The Swimmer has grown to become a widely recognized and analyzed short story, one
which both readers and literary critics alike admire. By drawing on his personal life and by using a
wide range of writing techniques, Cheever depicts and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is this structure precisely that gives Cheever s works the power to resonate with a wide range of
individuals. Author of John Cheever s Flowering Forth: The Breakthroughs of 1947, James O Hara,
discusses this aspect of Cheever s writing in his academic journal:
He had continued to experiment with the choice of materials for his stories, and had gradually won
over editors with a combination of solid structural technique he had always known how to put a story
together and Hemingwayesque understatement. (51)
Although O Hara did not specifically address the short story The Swimmer in this particular excerpt,
this quotation is nonetheless viable and true in its claims.
Along with a solid structure, in order for a piece of fiction to resonate with readers, the work also has
to have meaningful characters. Cheever has proven to excel in this aspect of writing as well. This
excellence can also be attributed to Cheever and his personal life. Bloom writes: Just like his
characters, then, Cheever was not a perfect man, yet he was a decent one, who believed in heroism
and sentiment and family and a minor man s capacity to glory. Neddy Merrill, the main character in
The Swimmer, can be described in a similar manner, for he too is an imperfect man who seeks glory
and purpose. In the same vein, literary analyst, Robert A. Morace, states: The characters in this and

The Importance Of Public Diplomacy
Turkey has been a powerful country in its region because it is a Muslim country ruling with
democracy since 1923 is seen as an example for other Muslim countries in the region. Public
diplomacy functions as a tool to inform and educate the target audience so that there can be favorable
relationships with other countries (White and Radic, 2014). Another function of public diplomacy is
building dialog and creating sympathy for the country itself. As a field, public diplomacy has no
theoretical perspective and strong background (Entman, 2008) which it could provide a framework.
Public diplomacy became popular in the years of the cold war (Gilboa, 2008). The field nourishes
from public relations, branding, systems theory, communication, social sciences, social psychology,
international relations, political communication, cultural studies, psychology, media framing,
diplomacy studies (Gilboa, 2008; Gregory, 2008). This is because the field is new and some scholars
argue that public diplomacy is not an academic field. Gregory (2008) argues public diplomacy can be
treated as an academic field based on three considerations: an achievable consensus on an analytical
framework; a substantial body of relevant scholarship and practical literature; and benefits for
learning, shared knowledge, and professional practice. (p.286). Public diplomacy is a promising field
and it is studied in some schools however for it be considered full academic field, academicians need

[4] What is Tender Offers
Throughout the years many acquisitions have been hostile, which has led to companies to creative
preventative and defensive takeover methods. Preventative is used as a way to reduce the likelihood of
a takeover, and defensive measure (active measures) are used afer a hostile bid has been issued.

Another method is the White Knight, which is when the company doesn t want the acquiring company
to takeover, they find a more suitable company to acquire them instead. This may be done to prevent
the disassembly of the target. Takeover tactics have been used throughout history. Three important
tactics are Bidding strategies, Casual pass, and Bear hugs. Bidding strategy is 2/3 successful to the 1st
bidder. Bidders have to watch out for not only the target company, but also for other bidders. There
has been a higher successrate on bidders who actually contact the target company first in hopes of a
more amiable bid. A second bid can be even more successful, therefore the first bidder shouldn t offer
too much to prepare for a comeback bid. This is called Optimal Bidder. Casual pass is an informal
overture before bidding . The problem with this is that it gives the target advance warning of the
possible takeover. Bearhugs apply pressure to the target before bidding. The acquirer contact the
Board of directors and state that they will go to the stockholders and present an offer to them without
the Board s consent. This forces the target to take a public position and puts pressure on the Board
because it must consider the offers or they violate fiduciary duties. Tender offers have been debateable
over the years. There is no specific definistion as to what

My family and I go there every year! It is similar to ACL in Austin, except fancier with more hands on
activities. Most of the locals go here, along with some people who travel to Quebec exclusively for
this purpose. There are a bunch of bands, and usually couches and carpets that the audience can sit on
while watching the bands. Some of the performances are outside, while some of them are in tents to
protect the audience from the wind and cold. There are also other booths, like shops and such. My dad
and I went in one where they use a green screen to make it look like you re at a concert!
There are many things that students can enjoy there. There s many kinds of foods, like escargot,
chocolate croissants, and french onion soup. As mentioned earlier, there is also a fancy castle hotel
which people can stay in. You can visit stores there which sell all different kinds of products.
In Quebec, there are many family attractions, which include fancy family friendly restaurants. There
are lots of historical spots and museums, which the family can drop by to receive a quick history
lesson. There s also hotels all over, so you won t have a hard time finding a place to stay.
I say that Quebec is a great place to visit, both historically and recreationally. See you there

U-High Stream Quality
This lab investigates the question, What is the water quality of the U High stream based on water
invertebrates found? Water quality can be determined by multiple factors such as clarity, pH, dissolved
oxygen, and levels of pollution. Clarity is the amount of sediment in the stream, higher amounts of
sediment is unhealthy for water quality. pH measures the acidity or basicness of the stream, a healthy
stream has a pH between 6.0 9.0. Dissolved oxygen is the level of oxygen in the water, this is
necessary for the survival of organisms, higher measurements means better water quality. Finally
different types of pollution can affect water quality such as nitrogen and phosphorus. Too much of
either chemical can cause eutrophication which leads

The Effects Of Trauma On Children And Adolescents
Introduction Trauma has caused hospitalized pediatric patients to become uneasy and anxious with no
additional support. Thus, Child Life Services (CLS) is being proposed to Highland Hospital, as it does
not currently offer any therapeutic consultations to pediatric patients and families to help ease
traumatic feelings. CLS essentially provide a variety of different therapeutic programs to distract
hospitalized children from pain, stress and being traumatized after medical procedures.
Problem Statement
In the United States, more than 3 million children and adolescents experience some type of traumatic
events (Schwarz E.D., Perry B.D., 1994). Such events may involve violence in home, school or street,
death or hospital stays and medical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The implementation of CLS in Highland hospital will solely base on a philosophy to ensure that all
pediatric patients and their families receive the best care and support, regardless of how long the
duration of stay is. Some of the programs provided would include pre and post procedure preparation
consultations with the usages of developmentally appropriate medical play and activities to display a
better understanding of and how to cope with medical procedures, and to overall reduce traumatic
feelings. CLS currently provides certain hours of age appropriate playroom for all hospitalized
children and siblings with no requirement of adult family members. The playroom allows supportive
play and social interaction with different activities and entertainments to ease stress. However, this
proposed CLS would instead include a 24 hour playroom/daycare for siblings of the patient. With this,
siblings will be taken care of during the duration the family is in the hospital and when parents are
with the patient in medical procedures or clinical visits. In addition, a big brother/big sister program
would be implemented as part of CLS at Highland Hospital. This program will involve assigned
trained volunteers to patients, as they keep the patients entertained in their hospital rooms and assist
and guide them during the times the child is not in any procedures. With this one on one program, it
will provide a distraction for the patients

Nakedness
Why is it that American anxiety about identity has led us to value exposure over privacy? Why, in
short, are we so eager to become members of the Naked Crowd, in which we have the illusion of
belonging only when we are exposed? Jeffrey Rosen wrote in, The Naked Crowd , about something
that probably 85% of the United Sates was guilty of. He got intimate with us. He brought down the
guard of our computer screens and iPhones. He makes us exposed by our exposure on the Internet.
Rosen wonders, just like myself, why people use the Internet to share their darkest secrets? Why are
people so open online? Jeffrey Rosen opens up the doors trying to expose these people. To him ...

John Lamb s article, The original social media technology: Phone calls are still a great way of keeping
in touch and up to date , talks about how technology and exposure on the Internet can be a good thing
also. Many businesses are incorporating social media into their marketing campaigns and into their
product and service offerings. But new technology does not always disintermediation. In the case of
social media, the original social media technology is being integrated in new and innovative ways. So
what is it? The plain old telephone. Increasingly, employees and consumers are using social media on
their mobile devices or smart phones. At the end of the day, however, a smart phone is still a phone.
Showing off on the Internet for a business, or the Presidential campaigns can help in the long run.
When presenting something or just talking to someone, the point comes across better when in person.
Lamb is saying that, yes maybe their campaign can but understood through a television ad, but why
not in person? Personal contact is the best form of contact.

problem that faces him is deciding if opening a Coors Beer brewery in his area of Delaware is a
profitable investment. The beer is obviously not widely carried in the area so that makes the situation
that much harder. He has less information to work with. This is why he contacted the Manson

This study could be valuable because it offers information on how the population has and could
change over the years. You can take this and technically watch population changes. If the population
in the area is on the decline, it might not be smart to invest because there would be a minimal amount
of people in the area to consume the product. If the population is on the rise, that would be a positive
indication. Basically showing that the area is growing and that shows a good sign for investing. This
information costs $1,500.
Third is a study that investigates Coors market share estimates for 2000 through 2005. This looks into
the number of gallons of the brand that are consumed locally and nationally. This is important because
it shows if anyone in the area is already consuming the product. If people are already consuming the
product it could be a good investment because you already have a market established. If not, you
could take the gamble which would be to basically trying to go into the new area and try to establish

The Americans with Disability Act Essay
Usability is a critical portion of web design that one must be ever mindful of when constructing
websites. Whether creating a personal web space or building multiple pages for a large corporation, it
is the burden of the designer to guarantee people can access that content. According to the United
Nations, disabled people compose roughly 10 percent of the world s population (United Nations,
2010). Many regulations and standards have been set forth to provide disabled people with the same
opportunities to access content available on the World Wide Web, as it is most of the World s

considering visually impaired person one must use text colors that are easy to read with the right

taken into account due to users that are visually impaired. For persons with hearing impairments,
audio content must have a text alternative provided, besides this, for users who use alternative speech

Green Infrastructure Essay
2.2. Practices of Green Infrastructure
Regarding GSI, EPA (2015) introduces eleven types of the practices of GI on their website: rain
gardens, bioswales, permeable pavements, green streets and alleys, green parking, green roofs, urban
tree canopy, land conservation and etc. Among these practices, this research selected four practices:
rain gardens, bioswales, permeable pavement (covering green parking), and green roofs. This is
mainly because they are widely accepted as representative tools for GI and suitably implemented on
open space areas, such as Right of Way, parking lots, vacant spaces and roofs, at neighborhood scale.

Bioswale Bioswales are vegetated stormwater conveyance systems that provides an alternative to or
enhancement of traditional stormwater piping with treating water quality and attenuating flooding
potential (Natural Resources Conservation Service[NRSC], 2005; Clark Acomb, 2008). In most cities
where the built environment of buildings, streets, and sidewalks are hard and impervious, when it
rains, the water cannot be absorbed into the ground the way it would in natural areas (NYC DEP, n.d.).
Also, in old cities which have a combined sewage system, since combined sewer overflows (CSO)
events frequently occur, reducing runoff is a necessity (Nielsen et al., 2008). This infiltration system,
as an alternative to the existing sewage system, allows cities to absorb low flows or carry runoff into
storm sewer inlets or directly to surface water (NRCS, 2005). As linear features, bioswales are usually
well suited to parking lot islands, road medians, landscape buffs to treat stormwater as well as enhance
landscape aesthetics (Figure 4) (NRCS, 2005; EPA, 2015).
This infiltration practice is generally affected by soil type, groundwater table, size of the area services,
imperviousness, and slope degree (Clark Acomb, 2008). If slopes are very flat or steep, the functions
will be impractical, and therefore slope degree should be no greater than 5% (Clark Acomb, 2008).

Chronic Periodontal Disease
Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. It is thought that nearly 85% of adults
have some stage of periodontal disease. With that being said it means periodontal disease is more
common than heart disease and cancer. The good thing about this disease is that if it is caught in an
early stage it can be reversible, but if it is left untreated it can become very dangerous leading to tooth
loss and possibly surgery.
Periodontal disease refers to a group of problems that arise in the crevice between the gum and the

periodontitis, disease related periodontitis, and acute necrotizing periodontal disease. Just because you
have gingivitis does not mean you will get periodontitis, in fact some experts believe that they are two
very different diseases. Chronic periodontitis is basically the same thing as gingivitis but it has a few
more symptoms including; halitosis, a persistent metallic taste in the mouth, and gingival recession.
Most patients who have this will not even worry or they might not even know. Most of the time
inflammation and bone destruction is painless, patients just assume that they just need to floss more or
brush more often. This can often be solved by better oral care. Patients who suffer from aggressive
periodontitis are normally younger than patients who have the chronic form. People who have this are
generally healthy other than the presence of periodontal disease. These people will experience rapid
loss of periodontal attachment fibers and bone destruction. They also will have a depressed neutrophil
function, the neutrophils can also be defective, resulting in depressed chemotaxis and phagocytosis.

Brunelleschi s Influence To The Renaissance
In 1418, the town fathers of Florence realized they had to face a major problem. Il Duomo, the
cathedral that was built to best all others, was missing its roof. This cathedral had been constructed in
1296 to commemorate Florence s new status as one of the most prosperous cities in Europe. The
cathedral would serve as a symbol of this new Florence. The town fathers had a vision of a colossal
dome that would rise to the heavens without support, pulling one s attention upwards. The only
obstacle was that the technology at the time could not accommodate a dome of the scale as planned,
with a diameter of 180 feet. A competition was announced with the prize of 200 florins, which was

His biggest influence was most likely founding architecture as a separate and unique branch of art.
This established architects as more than just laborers and helped raise their status. Architects and other
artists in general received more credit for their work. Another similarly important influence
Brunelleschi had was popularizing the classical style by visiting and examining the ruins of Rome.
This helped repair the disintegrated reputation of Rome. This also established a new idea of beauty
that was achieved through harmony, symmetry and abiding by classical rules and styles. These rules
helped some artists to create individuality and to experience greater artistic freedom. Brunelleschi s
creation of new machinery was still impactful, but less so than the others. This revolutionary
technology ignited a new reliance on science and technology until the point where math and the arts
were inseparably intertwined. Brunelleschi s construction of the dome of Il Duomo clearly shaped the

Descriptive Essay On Getting A Dog
One of my favorite memories I have is getting my dog, Daisy. Even though I had two dogs before this
dog was special. It was a lot of work to get her and it made me more appreciate that I actually got a
dog.
My step sister Mia and I were asking for a dog for a long time. We would always watch The Animal
Channel show about dogs or vet, and it would make us think about how much we wanted a dog. Both
of us had dogs before, but we did not have one anymore, we either got rid of them or they were with
our other parent we didn t live with. So we would keep asking my dad over and over and bribe him by
saying we would clean the house and clean and take care of the dog. One day before my sisters dance
recital Mia and I were in the middle of watching TV when we saw an ad for a free dog we ran outside
and begged for a dog. So he said he would think about it if we all could behave and keep the house
clean. So we worked our hardest to keep the house clean, from cleaning my little brother s bedroom to
cleaning both bathrooms. He lived up to his promise and started looking at dogs on Facebook we
found one that was close by in Norwich and we were so excited when we found out that we were
going to meet him after my brothers game. We were so excited at the game that we walked around to
pass the time we sat on the dock at the park next to the field and were so excited we thought looking
in the river would help pass time but it really made it go by slower. When we got in the car after the

carrier in 1988. Violence was nothing new to the youngster whose mother was imprisoned while
pregnant with him. It is no surprise that his music was replete with references to ghettos, street
violence, sex, gangs and other social problems he faced while growing up. At the beginning of his
career he worked for the alternative hip hop group Digital Underground as a roadie and backup
dancer. Eventually the talented young man released his solo debut 2Pacalypse Now which generated
considerable controversy due to the violent nature of its lyrics and became very popular primarily due
to this very reason. Even though professionally he was becoming ... Show more content on

His blooming career was cut short by his brutal death in a drive by shooting. His mother, Afeni
Shakur, spent most of her pregnancy in jail, and he had little contact with his father. He knew his
stepfather well, who was a renowned drug dealer and spent time on the FBI s most wanted list. Shakur
joined a theater group as a preteen for a brief time. Shakur s mother took him and his sister to
homeless shelters around New York until they left for Maryland, and Shakur struggled due his strange
name, looks and clothes. There Shakur lived his adolescence expanding his love for the liberal arts. He
began to write songs about worldly issues, such as gun control, and earned a reputation as a tough guy.
After unemployment, Shakur s mother moved the family to California where Crooks would then begin
his West Coast lifestyle. Tupac was/is known as Tupac, Pac, The Thug Angel, and Makaveli. Shakur s

John Christopher Dep Essay
As we have discussed in class, star persona is when an actor or actress have been categorized into
specific roles because of previous similar characters they chose to perform as in multiple movies,
skits, and or television series. Obviously, as a new comer into the Hollywood acting business coming
from Kentucky with his wife, John Christopher Depp had the power to become anyone he wanted to
be, and even now he has the power to try to be the person he might not want to be, but need to be for
the better sake of his career. Starting off his career with such a strong force really allowed Depp to be
launched further into the television and film industry. As stated in IMDb, Depp starred in a low budget
horror film, The Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), roughly around $1,800,000. And in 1987, Depp
went onto the hit television show 21 Jump Street to replace Jeff Yagher. Depp at first, you could argue,
started off well with a mixture of genres in various movies and television series but after the 21 Jump
Street series had ended, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a dramatic break out in his earlier films such as The Astronaut s Wife, Pirates of the Caribbean:
The Curse of the Black Pearl, Secret Window, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and many others;
these characters gripped the audience, the critics. Yet after watching several of Depp s movies, people
noticed he always had this dark aura towards him, and if not, he was too immature and uncontrollable.
Depp says in an article by Elizabeth Wagele called Johnny Depp, Enneagram Romantic Type, If the
choice is to be gawked at constantly or to sit in a dark room, I d choose the dark room. I felt as if I had
been turned into a novelty, and it was mortifying. When I was in a social situation, I was nervous and

Black Madonna Of Czestochowa Research Paper
On July 23rd, 2016 my mother and I took a trip to Doylestown, Pa to visit the National Shrine of Our
Lady of Czetochowa. When we arrived at the shrine we were in awe at how much ground there was to
the shrine and how beautiful the shrine was. Each year millions of people visit the shrine from
countries all around the world. It s amazing how this polish shrine attracts so many people of faith
from all over. In 1951 a priest in the Pauline Order from Poland named Father Michael M. Zambrzuski
came to America. He was missionary traveling at many Polish parishes in Canada and the United
States. However, during this time he saw a need for something that would be faith enriching and
rejuvenate Polish pride. And the only solution was to build a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As you walk up the grand staircase of the Shrine s Main Church, you come to the tallest and heaviest
doors you may have ever seen. As you step inside you enter a now serene and quiet holy place. Once
you open the second set of doors you enter a huge chapel with a magnificent altar. Above that altar
you see a copy of the Our Lady of Czestochowa painting that was blessed by Pope John XXIII on
February 10th,1962. Also, as you travel to below the shrine church you ll find another copy of the
Black Madonna. However, this time it is signed and blessed by Pope John Paul II on August 2,1980.
In addition, there are 4 other chapels in the lower level of the shrine church including, Chapel of Mary
of Nazareth, Chapel of Divine Mercy, Chapel of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and Chapel of St.Paul, First
Hermit. Behind the Main Church you can find the serene St. Anne s Chapel. Outside, you can find the
Rosary Garden and the cemetery. In the cemetery there is a 45 foot cross that is tribute to the victims
of 9/11. For those who seek a even more spiritual enriched experience there is the Ava Maria Retreat
House. Also, there is a visitor center that includes a cafeteria, exhibition hall, religious articles center,
meeting room ,chapel , shrine offices, and a gift shop. At the gift shop you can find anything from
religious medals to polish candies.

Robert Frost
A Snowy Evening with Robert Frost Robert Frost once said, It begins as a lump in the throat, a sense
of wrong, a homesickness, a loneliness. It is never a thought to begin with. It is at best when it is a
tantalizing vagueness. ( Poetry Foundation n.d.). This poem holds a lot of mystery in its meaning
which has a variety of interpretations. John T. Ogilvie who wrote, From Woods to Stars: A pattern of
Imagery in Robert Frost s Poetry interprets this as a poem about the journey through life. James G.
Hepburn who wrote, Robert Frost and His Critics took a different approach. He believes this poem to
be about the aesthetics and moral action. This poem contains a variety of literary devices that not only
describe the scenery but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Hepburn says in his article, Robert Frost and His Critics The mood that the poem induces in the
reader nullifies his acceptance of the intention expressed by the traveler. The sum of the reader s
experience of the poem is different from the meaning of the traveler s experience of the woods.
Presumably the traveler goes home to supper, to his duties, and to the rest of his journey through life;
but these things are not the poem. Frost made some comments on the factors mood plays in a poem, ...
the poet s intention is of course a particular mood that won t be satisfied with anything less than its
own fulfillment. (Hepburn 1962). This poem isn t a recreated experience but meant to be an
experience in itself. This poem has some interesting symbolism in it takes us on a journey through a
man s life. When the narrator first stops, instead of questioning himself, he questions what the horse
thinks, My little horse must think it queer (842). By questioning the horse, he is really questioning his
own reasons, which people often do while they make life decisions or everyday decisions. The horse
is also a symbol of time the horse is questioning his stopping and urges him to move on to prevent the
further loss of time (Anonymous). When the narrator s horse shakes his harness bells, he then
becomes a symbol, as John Ciardi thinks, ..order of life that does not understand why a man stops in
the winter middle of nowhere to watch snow come

Reasons Of King Henry V Of France
In William Shakespeare s Henry V, King Henry V of England sets out to retake his rightful position of
king of France. Everyone agrees that Henry has a claim to the French throne, some say he should have
invaded France and others say he should not. Henry should not have invaded France for three reasons:
He does not have a legitimate claim, it could endanger Britain, and its selfish. Firstly, Henry should
not have invaded France is that he does not have a legitimate claim to the throne. Henry claims that he
is the rightful king of France because of a complicated family tree. He claims that because his great
grandfather, Edward III s, mother was Isabella the daughter of French king Philip IV, that he is the
rightful king of France. The French ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Henry s invasion carries one major risk, limited men. He only has so many men he can use for his
army. By using a large force he may not be able to defend his gains or even England itself, should
France launch a counter attack campaign. This risk would mean that not only would he lose all his
gains but he would lose his entire kingdom! This is not worth the huge risk to attack France. In Act 1
Sc. 2 lines 142 145, Henry worries about another threat to England during the invasion, the Scotts, We
must not only arm t invade the French, But lay down our proportions to defend Against the Scot, who
will make road upon us With all advantages Henry has a legitimate fear that the rebellious Scots will
take advantage of him and his army s absence to make themselves independent, and taking the
northern half of Britain with them. This fear is genuine but is put to rest again by the Archbishop of
Canterbury, who assures Henry that the Scots will have neither the will nor the manpower to mount a
serious revolt. Henry also is concerned that if he loses a fight with France over something he
seemingly has the right to, the British people might lose faith in him and begin looking to another
leader. This concern is grounded in Henry s fear of losing and that if he does his position as King will
be at

  • 2. Animal Cruelty Is A Crime Against Humanity In order to constitute animal cruelty as a Crime Against Humanity we must prove that society is ignoring the violence towards them despite the research evidence, the government sanctions mass killings of them, and that this type of violence affects humans on a large scale (Plant, Schaik, Gullone, Flynn 2016). Although dispositional factors such as empathy and aggression may influence animal cruelty, we must look at the environmental factors that lead to the negative effects from a macro level perspective. In this analysis, I will review whether exposure to animal cruelty correlates with future maladaptive behaviors and the damaging effects it may have when perpetrated at a large scale. Part A: Exposure To Animal Cruelty And Its Negative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This proposes the idea of how actions of animal maltreatment are similar to actions of child or domestic violence. The second reason stated in the book Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, and Animal Abuse: Linking the Circles of Compassion for Prevention and Intervention, is that cowardly acts of aggression against vulnerable members of the family are matters of power and control. The victims can be of any size, age, gender, or species, it is simply a matter of the opportunity that presents itself (Ascione Arkow 1999). Lastly, the book Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, and Animal Abuse: Linking the Circles of Compassion for Prevention and Intervention, states that any act of aggression or violence within the entire family can put the members of that family at risk. The dangers of this violence may also reach out as far as the community and its children (Ascione Arkow 1999). An example of animal exploitation spilling over to other forms of violence is the relationship between animal violence and intimate partner violence. In a study done in April 2007, researchers asked both battered and non battered women to report whether their partner had any history of abusing their pets at home. The women living in the domestic violence shelter were nearly 11 times more likely to report that their partner had hurt or killed pets than the group of non battered women (Ascione, Weber, Thompson, Heath, Maruyama 2016). They also found that for the group of battered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Environmental Issues and the Importance of Connecting With... Biology and Connecting With Nature Oh, what a catastrophe, what a maiming of love when it was made personal, merely personal feeling. This is what is the matter with us: we are bleeding at the roots because we are cut off from the earth and sun and stars. Love has become a grinning mockery because, poor blossom, we plucked it from its stem on the Tree of Life and expected it to keep on blooming in our civilized vase on the table. D.H. Lawrence Beyond any doubt, studies now confirm that due to the stress that is flowing out of our disconnected bleeding roots , complex personal, environmental and social problems are created. As humans we have been inclined to look outside of ourselves at the polluted lakes and brown clouds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fundamental problem, as David Wann writes in his book Bio Logic, is that our brains and technologies are still evolving. Although we are part of nature, humans have decided to go their own way, separated from the realities learned in Biology. Recently both the physics and chemistry industry formed an alliance and over looked the still evolving field of biology. The result of the coalition was runaway chemicals, disappearing species, and an afflicted Human population. It is discouraging to see the violence and the hatred that is growing in the industrial society. The destruction of the forests, wildlife, and oceans, results in using the remains of the land for a variety of ends that are not at all related to the spirit of those places. The spirit of Nature that one grows around. Our lives, along with the lives of the global community, are at risk. We are wounding the earth and in return we are suffering with it. Some examples of the distruction that humans are causing the earth and themselves are; hunting and killing endangered species, development of nuclear weapons and thus nuclear waste, increase of the risk of cancer due to industrial chemicals in the environment, and least but not last the Ozone depletion problem. These are only few examples from an endless list. People might think that this means we have to live like primitives. On the contrary, we do not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Robert Gross s The Minutemen And Their World The Minutemen and Their World, by Robert Gross focuses directly on life and struggles in Concord in the seventeen hundreds. He provides a fresh outlook and new style that works to the readers advantage. This style of writing separates Gross from many other writers. As other writers deal with the colonies as a whole, Gross separates and investigates on a more specific level. He focuses on the lives of the farmers and ordinary towns people. This inside out approach allows the reader to see how decisions effected everyday life for ordinary people. Gross s analytical style called new social history is compounded by primary documents and statistical analysis of many records kept through out history. This is to the reader s advantage, because not only does this it give us an accurate account of what happened in the 1700 s, but it also provides numerical statistic to back up the authors presentation of the truth. Gross also writes in a story like fashion that makes this book easy to read. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He explains that Concord has trouble staying united. The people of this city often don t agree on important topics such as politics and religion. These topics were raised and discussed in town meetings that were held in the center on the town. This posed a problem because Concords population was scattered over many miles, and the trip to town became very tedious. This resulted in the separation of the towns people and the foundation of multiple smaller communities that held counsels of their own. These assemblies were not usually connected to the main counsel and did not always fallow by the same rules. They often made rules that catered to their needs. Gross believes that the problem lies on the leadership of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Why Is Oprah Winfrey A Good Role Model What makes a person a great role model? Does it come with age? Maybe, it comes with character. Role models are supposed to set an example for others to follow. I consider Oprah Winfrey a role model because she is very hardworking, humble, and giving. One reason why I consider Oprah a role model is because of how hardworking she is. For example, how she rose from poverty to great prosperity. While she used to be poor, she is now a billionaire. Also, how she continues to persevere through every task. No matter how difficult it is, she always finds a way to achieve her goal. Especially how she jumps over any hurdles that are in her way, overlooking problems that most people use as a crutch. In other words, Oprah is a leader and role model ... Did not escape unscathed, but the participation in the war gave a stronger sense of nationhood. Canada s contributions into WWI led to international recognition; other countries must recognize you as sovereign. The effort also brought acknowledgement to Canada s contributions and heroism on the battlefields of Europe, giving Canada the shot to be a more mature, experienced nation because of the sacrifices made by their armed forces. The whole plan was entirely devised by Canada and was independent of British thoughts. The success in the capture of the ridge earned Canada a reputation of great strength and accomplishment, and it was also the first time that Canada had ever planned its own attack without British help. It was the first step towards Canada s independence and sovereignty. Even under British rule, Canadian troops planned, rehearsed, followed through, and defeated the Germans at Vimy Ridge under the command of Canadian officers and officials. Although the victory came with a great cost, with more than 10,000 killed and wounded, it helped prove Canada in front of other world countries. Concluding Paragraph: I believe that the effort put into it by Canada gave the world a chance to recognize Canada s contributions and heroism after the battles they fought and won on the European battlefields. Canada was given the chance to be perceived as a mature, wiser nation through the sacrifices it made during the war. The Citizen Genet Affair Analysis The Citizen Genet affair not only exhibits a great foreign disrespect towards the beliefs and authority of our president, but is a heinous attempt to deteriorate the very structure that keeps our nation running smoothly: trade. As I have previously stated, maintaining peace and focusing on trade are of overriding importance, and it is vital for us to maintain peace with Britain in order to forge a strong trading relationship overseas. Genet s demands for our militaristic and financial aid infringed upon said peace, and as Washington explained, would do far more harm than good if followed. • 8. The Controversial Theory Of Evolution The controversial theory of evolution has been prevalent in the minds of scientists, religious leaders, and those who follow since Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace first made the ideas officially known in 1858. The theory they proposed was that the universe and all organisms within it is constantly changing and adapting to the world around them since the beginning of time. Since Darwin s and Wallace s theories were shared, there has been constant disagreement and debate between the science world and the religious world regarding evolution. Some science and religious advocates agree that there is the possibility of both the scientific and religious beliefs on how the world came about co exiting. However, some religious groups, like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the many examples that support this idea that organisms evolve and change over time is the finding of the Tiktaalik; though it is an unknown species it has traits that are similar to reptiles, amphibians, and birds that exist today. Because of fossil findings like the Tiktaalik scientists no longer have doubts about evolution and it s continuing occurrence (Alberto 2008). In the 20th century, with the development of the science of genetics biologists began understanding the mechanics of how traits are passed down to different generations and how they are altered through the discovery of DNA and its major importance. They learned that parts of DNA from each parent are passed down to the offspring. Mutations of DNA, which cause alterations of species, can also occur when traits are being passed down to the offspring. Mutations in DNA can cause the offspring to have difficulties surviving and eventually lead to the extinction of the species. On the other hand, mutation of DNA can affect the offspring positively and change its traits to be stronger and a better survivor in that certain environment which would eventually lead to a growth in population of the certain species. Mutations in DNA can also be neutral and have no effect of the offspring s traits. This battle with nature and survival through DNA lead to the foundation of the idea of Natural Selection (Alberto 2008). Natural selection is survival of the fittest , the ... The National Industrial Recovery Act initiated the NLRB, which protected joint bargaining rights for unions. President Franklin D. • 13. Interconnectedness In Let The Great World Spin By Colum... Let the Great World Spin, demonstrates throughout how each of our lives are connected to each other all around the world whether we live in the same city or miles apart, whether we know each other or if we are strangers. Everything overlaps and affects everyone in the world in some way. This interconnectedness that is displayed throughout the novel is a huge theme and point that many might miss upon reading this novel. Colum McCann, the author of Let the Great World Spin, developed a intricate connectedness in the lives of each of his characters in the novel, it is through this that he unites his characters together either physically and mentally. By doing this, the author develops an idea that two or more very different life paths can cross and become intertwined with one another in a way that can change the direction of someone s life; in other words, the people around us, even strangers, can in some way, meaningfully influence us on accident without even knowing it. One person s decision has many unknown and known effects. First example of how the author uses connectedness as the point of this novel is how Ciaran and Lara end up getting married later in the novel. At the beginning of the novel neither of the two characters know anything about the other s existence until the car crash that ends Ciaran s brothers life that Lara and her ex husband, Blaine, were involved in. It is through their grief that they get to know each other and learn to forgive themselves and learn to move on. Had not Lara and Blaine not been the ones involved in the accident as far as we know, Ciaran and Lara would not have met nor ever gotten married. A second example of the the connection between characters is the connection Gloria and Claire share between each other, which leads to Gloria and Jaslyn s connection in addition to Jaslyn and Claire s connection after Gloria dies. Gloria and Claire s connection begins with the deaths of their sons in the Vietnam War. Their connections spreads across a delicate and painful time and space as results of both having to deal and cope with the tragic events with their sons and having it change their lives as they know it. • 15. Recidivism Is The Act Of A Person Recidivism is the act of a person repeating an undesirable behavior after they have experienced negative consequences. Recidivism refers to a person s relapse into criminal behavior and is measured by criminal acts that resulted in rearrest, reconviction or return to jail within a three year period following the criminal s release. Approximately 6 in 10 released inmates are rearrested or reincarcerated within three years of release from prison (The Bureau of Planning, Research and Statistics, 2013). Many criminals go to jail after doing time because they find it hard to fit back in with the normal life due to returning to high risk places and finding a job. In order to eliminate high recidivism with the jail system, it is necessary to provide education and vocational training. Drug addiction typically propels the criminal behavior of inmates whom recidivate soon after release. Many prisoners report commit their offense while under the influence of drugs. The Keiserschlacht or Emperor s Battle In 1914, General Erich Ludendorff, Germany s key commander in World War I, along with General Paul von Hindenburg, strategically placed the German Army in a series of three 25 mile trenches in central France. This new position gave the German s a false sense of security, which led them to believe that they would win World War I. At first, the onslaught and brute force of the offensive proved itself well. The Kaiserschlacht, or Emperor s Battle, quickly turned around due to lack of supplies and heavy casualties. Since the Central Powers were becoming more confident, they made more mistakes and thus began losing battles and eventually the war. Greater numbers and strength of the Allied Powers ultimately led to the slaughter and defeat of the Germans under Generals Ludendorff and Hindenburg. Germany had the chance to end the war before the resources from the United States could be deployed into France and Britain. In an advantage by numbers, fearless leader Ludendorff set off to gain land for Germany and defeat the Allied powers once and for all. The Germans knew that they had to conquer Europe before the Americans could train soldiers and ship men and supplies to the front lines. The addition of Americans to the Allied Powers would significantly impact the outcome of the war. Germany still believed that they could win the war. As most powers of this magnitude are, the government has a say in it, regulating and producing them. The government s involvement with maps is undeniable, especially our own. The question is how well they put their ability to use. Are outcomes favorable for the citizens? Are politicians or governments benefitted from misuse of maps more often than not? (51) Although O Hara did not specifically address the short story The Swimmer in this particular excerpt, this quotation is nonetheless viable and true in its claims. Along with a solid structure, in order for a piece of fiction to resonate with readers, the work also has to have meaningful characters. Cheever has proven to excel in this aspect of writing as well. This excellence can also be attributed to Cheever and his personal life. Bloom writes: Just like his characters, then, Cheever was not a perfect man, yet he was a decent one, who believed in heroism and sentiment and family and a minor man s capacity to glory. Neddy Merrill, the main character in The Swimmer, can be described in a similar manner, for he too is an imperfect man who seeks glory and purpose. In the same vein, literary analyst, Robert A. The Importance Of Public Diplomacy Turkey has been a powerful country in its region because it is a Muslim country ruling with democracy since 1923 is seen as an example for other Muslim countries in the region. Public diplomacy functions as a tool to inform and educate the target audience so that there can be favorable relationships with other countries (White and Radic, 2014). Another function of public diplomacy is building dialog and creating sympathy for the country itself. As a field, public diplomacy has no theoretical perspective and strong background (Entman, 2008) which it could provide a framework. Public diplomacy became popular in the years of the cold war (Gilboa, 2008). The field nourishes from public relations, branding, systems theory, communication, social sciences, social psychology, international relations, political communication, cultural studies, psychology, media framing, diplomacy studies (Gilboa, 2008; Gregory, 2008). Bidding strategy is 2/3 successful to the 1st bidder. Bidders have to watch out for not only the target company, but also for other bidders. There has been a higher successrate on bidders who actually contact the target company first in hopes of a more amiable bid. A second bid can be even more successful, therefore the first bidder shouldn t offer too much to prepare for a comeback bid. This is called Optimal Bidder. Casual pass is an informal overture before bidding . The problem with this is that it gives the target advance warning of the possible takeover. Bearhugs apply pressure to the target before bidding. The acquirer contact the Board of directors and state that they will go to the stockholders and present an offer to them without the Board s consent. Bioswale Bioswales are vegetated stormwater conveyance systems that provides an alternative to or enhancement of traditional stormwater piping with treating water quality and attenuating flooding potential (Natural Resources Conservation Service[NRSC], 2005; Clark Acomb, 2008). In most cities where the built environment of buildings, streets, and sidewalks are hard and impervious, when it rains, the water cannot be absorbed into the ground the way it would in natural areas (NYC DEP, n.d.). Also, in old cities which have a combined sewage system, since combined sewer overflows (CSO) events frequently occur, reducing runoff is a necessity (Nielsen et al., 2008). This infiltration system, as an alternative to the existing sewage system, allows cities to absorb low flows or carry runoff into storm sewer inlets or directly to surface water (NRCS, 2005). As linear features, bioswales are usually well suited to parking lot islands, road medians, landscape buffs to treat stormwater as well as enhance landscape aesthetics (Figure 4) (NRCS, 2005; EPA, 2015). The town fathers had a vision of a colossal dome that would rise to the heavens without support, pulling one s attention upwards. The only obstacle was that the technology at the time could not accommodate a dome of the scale as planned, with a diameter of 180 feet. A competition was announced with the prize of 200 florins, which was more than a craftsman s two year wage at the time. One entry stood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His biggest influence was most likely founding architecture as a separate and unique branch of art. This established architects as more than just laborers and helped raise their status. Architects and other artists in general received more credit for their work. Another similarly important influence Brunelleschi had was popularizing the classical style by visiting and examining the ruins of Rome. This helped repair the disintegrated reputation of Rome. This also established a new idea of beauty that was achieved through harmony, symmetry and abiding by classical rules and styles. These rules helped some artists to create individuality and to experience greater artistic freedom. Brunelleschi s creation of new machinery was still impactful, but less so than the others. This revolutionary technology ignited a new reliance on science and technology until the point where math and the arts were inseparably intertwined. Brunelleschi s construction of the dome of Il Duomo clearly shaped the Renaissance by raising the status of artists and architects, reviving the classical style and creating a symbiosis of the arts and ... It was a lot of work to get her and it made me more appreciate that I actually got a dog. My step sister Mia and I were asking for a dog for a long time. We would always watch The Animal Channel show about dogs or vet, and it would make us think about how much we wanted a dog. Both of us had dogs before, but we did not have one anymore, we either got rid of them or they were with our other parent we didn t live with. One day before my sisters dance recital Mia and I were in the middle of watching TV when we saw an ad for a free dog we ran outside and begged for a dog. So he said he would think about it if we all could behave and keep the house clean. So we worked our hardest to keep the house clean, from cleaning my little brother s bedroom to cleaning both bathrooms. He lived up to his promise and started looking at dogs on Facebook we found one that was close by in Norwich and we were so excited when we found out that we were going to meet him after my brothers game. • 43. John Christopher Dep Essay As we have discussed in class, star persona is when an actor or actress have been categorized into specific roles because of previous similar characters they chose to perform as in multiple movies, skits, and or television series. Obviously, as a new comer into the Hollywood acting business coming from Kentucky with his wife, John Christopher Depp had the power to become anyone he wanted to be, and even now he has the power to try to be the person he might not want to be, but need to be for the better sake of his career. Starting off his career with such a strong force really allowed Depp to be launched further into the television and film industry. As stated in IMDb, Depp starred in a low budget horror film, The Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), roughly around $1,800,000. And in 1987, Depp went onto the hit television show 21 Jump Street to replace Jeff Yagher. • 45. Robert Frost A Snowy Evening with Robert Frost Robert Frost once said, It begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a loneliness. It is never a thought to begin with. It is at best when it is a tantalizing vagueness. ( Poetry Foundation n.d.). This poem holds a lot of mystery in its meaning which has a variety of interpretations. John T. Ogilvie who wrote, From Woods to Stars: A pattern of Imagery in Robert Frost s Poetry interprets this as a poem about the journey through life. James G. Hepburn who wrote, Robert Frost and His Critics took a different approach. He believes this poem to be about the aesthetics and moral action. This poem contains a variety of literary devices that not only describe the scenery but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Hepburn says in his article, Robert Frost and His Critics The mood that the poem induces in the reader nullifies his acceptance of the intention expressed by the traveler. The sum of the reader s experience of the poem is different from the meaning of the traveler s experience of the woods. Presumably the traveler goes home to supper, to his duties, and to the rest of his journey through life; but these things are not the poem. Frost made some comments on the factors mood plays in a poem, ... the poet s intention is of course a particular mood that won t be satisfied with anything less than its own fulfillment. (Hepburn 1962). This poem isn t a recreated experience but meant to be an experience in itself. This poem has some interesting symbolism in it takes us on a journey through a man s life. When the narrator first stops, instead of questioning himself, he questions what the horse thinks, My little horse must think it queer (842). By questioning the horse, he is really questioning his own reasons, which people often do while they make life decisions or everyday decisions. The horse is also a symbol of time the horse is questioning his stopping and urges him to move on to prevent the further loss of time (Anonymous). When the narrator s horse shakes his harness bells, he then becomes a symbol, as John Ciardi thinks, ..order of life that does not understand why a man stops in the winter middle of nowhere to watch snow come ... • 46. Reasons Of King Henry V Of France In William Shakespeare s Henry V, King Henry V of England sets out to retake his rightful position of king of France. Everyone agrees that Henry has a claim to the French throne, some say he should have invaded France and others say he should not. Henry should not have invaded France for three reasons: He does not have a legitimate claim, it could endanger Britain, and its selfish. Firstly, Henry should not have invaded France is that he does not have a legitimate claim to the throne. Henry claims that he is the rightful king of France because of a complicated family tree. He claims that because his great grandfather, Edward III s, mother was Isabella the daughter of French king Philip IV, that he is the rightful king of France. The French ... By using a large force he may not be able to defend his gains or even England itself, should France launch a counter attack campaign. This risk would mean that not only would he lose all his gains but he would lose his entire kingdom! This is not worth the huge risk to attack France. In Act 1 Sc. 2 lines 142 145, Henry worries about another threat to England during the invasion, the Scotts, We must not only arm t invade the French, But lay down our proportions to defend Against the Scot, who will make road upon us With all advantages Henry has a legitimate fear that the rebellious Scots will take advantage of him and his army s absence to make themselves independent, and taking the northern half of Britain with them. This fear is genuine but is put to rest again by the Archbishop of Canterbury, who assures Henry that the Scots will have neither the will nor the manpower to mount a serious revolt. Henry also is concerned that if he loses a fight with France over something he seemingly has the right to, the British people might lose faith in him and begin looking to another leader.
