The On The Beauty Of Lionfish
Lionfish come with red, maroon or brown stripes and specks on their body and flashy fins. Their
beautiful long fins flowing gracefully in the water and dramatic colors are fascinating and
inspiring. No doubt lionfish are one of popular aquarium fishes as well as painting subjects. As my
final project, I want to create a captivating image, while enjoying exploration of the beauty and
details of lionfish. For the underwater backdrop, I want to suggest a coral reef environment. A
solid or simple blueunderwater backdrop would be sufficient to show the beauty of lionfish, but it
is too plain for my taste. I decide to paint underwater ripples along with a brain coral. The
challenge is creating a background that doesn t compete against the flamboyant and colorful
lionfish, yet adds enough interest to the viewer s eye.
Palette : new gamboge, quinacridone gold, phthalo green, cobalt turquoise, phthalo blue,
ultramarine blue, Prussian blue, indigo, burnt sienna, brown madder, magenta, purple
1. I sketch out the Lionfish first on tracing paper. I have a few reference photos of lionfish,
however none of them has a perfect form of their fins. After I select one which has a good body
shape, I alter the imperfect fin shapes. Once I finalize the shapes of the fins, I draw the details of
stripes on the body and fins. I also pay close attention to fin rays and specks. When I finish
working on the lionfish, I draw the outline of the dome shaped brain coral and a few lines across the

Essay On The Difference Between Civil Law And American...
Compared to the rest of the industrialized world, the United States is a fairly young country. As a
result, the U.S. has many institutions that differ from other advanced industrial democracies. One
of the most prominent differences between the U.S. and the rest of the industrialized world resides
in our legal systems. While the most common democratic judicial tradition, especially in social
democracies, is the civil law tradition, the U.S. differs and has a common lawlegal tradition. Many
differences exist between civil and common law traditions and the United Stateslegal system would
have stark changes if it switched to a civil legal system.
A key difference between civil and common law legal systems is the role of the legal code. In
civil law, the legal code is the supreme source of justice in a society; a handbook on citizen rights,
responsibilities, and the law (Poloni Staudinger and Wolf 2016, p.97). In civil law, the the legal...

In common law systems, less emphasis is placed on strictly following the words of the legal
code, but rather following the precedent set by previous cases findings. Furthermore, as
mentioned earlier, judges in common law nations have a prestigious connotation attached to their
role. They hold a highly sought after position and earn their black robe through the culmination
of their legal career. With the defendant under the presumption of innocence, these judges and the
court act as neutral actors and let the two opposing sides argue their case in front of a jury.
Because of this, the common law system is referred to as adversarial (Poloni Staudinger and
Wolf 2016, p.100). One of the biggest differences amongst common and civil law systems is the
role of judicial review. Unlike in nations with civil law, common law societies have a tremendous
amount of judicial review oversight of legislative or executive actions by the judiciary (Poloni

Coram Boy Essay
What do we learn about life in the 18th century and how successfully does the writer convey this
information whilst telling us a good story?
The story is set in the 18th century and includes factual information which plays a vital part in the
storyline. It uses this information whilst entertaining the readers with a fictional storyline. It is
based on one thing in particular, hence the title The Coram Boy , this is The Coram Hospital.
A main factor in the storyline is the way the writer portrays society s attitude to poverty in the 18th
century. The poor people were treated tremendously different to higher classed people. A lot of
people were even living on the streets. For example, He picked his way through the hordes of

Alexander is much higher classed. It shows how he feels to be in the company of those higher
classed. This is then contrasted by The food was borne in on silver platters by white gloved
manservants; food he had never even seen before: venison pie, partridge breasts, grilled trout,
slivers of ham, trifle with cream and jam, cheese and little biscuits this shows the wealth of
Alexander s family. These two examples clearly show the difference between different classes.
The next main factor in the story is society s attitude towards illegitimacy. Any woman who bore
a child out of wedlock was treated with disgust and held an air of shame and disgrace. This
caused those who did happen to have their children out of wedlock to give them up and send them
off to orphanages in hope their child would be alright. A lot of these single mothers tried to send
their children to one such orphanage called The Coram Hospital . An example is when Melissa, a
young girl just found out she was pregnant and says And Mama? What about Mama? The disgrace.
We ll both be thrown out. Destitute. This is a good example of the consequences of illegitimacy. If
anybody found out about such circumstances the mother and her acquaintances would be thrown
out and homeless. The writer includes this factual information in the story and it entwines

Chemy Called Al Book Summary
The book that I read was the Chemy called Al book. The book was most about a young
adventures girl that had an adventure in a place, she was trapped in a place where she learns
about elements and how they help her get out. It talked about what the elements in the periodic
table do and what they are use and some examples of the stuff made for it. The bookis telling us
about the states of matter and how they are use and what they use for with the ways people interact
with them.

Julie learns about the periodic table and how it is use and learns the states of matter and what
they are. The first one or one of the state of matter is solids. Solids are matter that have weight or
shape of an object that takes up space on earth, because It is something stable that cant move that

Gas is some what air in my opinion because you cant see it but you can hear it, you can feel air
from the breeze. You can also breathe it because we breathe air for our lungs. People, animals,
plants and machines use gases or convert them into something they can use for their survival.
People use gases from or air from trees that they covert and we use to breathe, we also use gases
from natural resources for energy. Animals rely on air because plants need it to make food and
animals eat the grass or their host that does. We use machines that use gases like propane that
burns like gas to make machines function right. An example of gases is air, propane. This relates
to the work we have done in class in some ways because it talks about some of the experiments we
have done with balloons and air and how much is needed for an object to operate and work

Trickery And Guardians Analysis
Trickery and Guardians By Alex Bones It was late November, all full on Thanksgiving turkey,
when I decided to take a stroll in the woods. I came upon this grove of Cypress trees. They were
beautiful. I, at that moment, tripped over a root. Falling hard on the ground and scraping my
knee, noticed a good number of roly polies(woodlice), and remembering my cute little hedgehog
grabbed a bag from my pack and grabbed a handful of them. At that moment something jumped
from the tree and landed on my head. Caught completely off guard I fell over with it on my face.
It gave a loud shriek and swung at my face with it s seemingly razor sharp fingers. I didn t know
what to do, for I was disorientated and had no idea what I was dealing with. Only when

Analysis Of The Nymph s Reply To The Shepherd
No matter how much you ve tried and no matter how long you ve waited for the one you love
because if you really love that person you re willing to wait for him/her no matter what happened.
In the shepherd s desperation, he resorts to materialism as he believes this is the only way his
love will be returned. However, the nymph in The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd is not so easily
seduced by such attractive images, pointing out that flowers do fade and all of the things the
shepherd promises Soon break, soon wither, soon forgotten.
From the very beginning it is written whole heartedly by Christopher Marlowe, deep words were the
ones to show the impact of love in this life. Love your life that gives the perfection. It gives me an
impression of having the good side or the brighter feeling of being loved. It makes me happy to
read this kind of poem while conceptualizing the essence of having myself in the situation of the
author. The author show his full respect to his loved one and I felt so in love with the way how
did the author dedicate his love only for his loved one. Having this kind of poem in my mind
makes me feel the right things to do and to think while being in love with a person. The reply of
Sir Walter Raleighto Christopher Marlowe s poem is very entertaining because of the conviction
that Sir Walter Raleigh s reply is a total rejection to each and every word that Marlowe has been
written. However, I feel sad for that part of the confession because being

Harry Connick Jr. Television Show Effect On Society
After visiting the Harry show it has made me wonder about how Harry Connick Jr. television
show effect people in society. Being that millions of people watch his show, I know it has to
have some impact on different communities. The episode that we attended have sent different
messages to many people of all ages, and influence those as well. Harry is a big face as a celebrity,
so whether if he is a televisionhost, singer, or actor, whatever he does will affect people negatively
or positively.
For example, when Harry introduced Jacob Tremblay who starred in a hit movie Wonder on the
show. It may have sent a message to the youth in society stating that whatever age you are, you can
achieve anything you put your mind to. The episode also shows how not everyone have a chance
to experience being an audience of a show or even being ask to talk on a show, so we should
take advantage of every opportunity that is offered. Also when Guillermo Diaz who plays in a
drama series Scandal, it also sends a meaning to adults as well. From this episode I learn that
society offers plenty, not everyone is as kind as Harry and his crew members, and not everyone
is willing to give people a chance a equality. I agree that Harry reinforce social value on that
episode because of the fact that he treated everyone like family. In term paper part I, I talk about
how Harry feels like talk shows shouldn t be about judging someone or gossiping but rather
positivity and things that are important in

The Existence Of God And The Battle Between Good And Evil
The existence of God and the battle between good and evil has been a topic of much discussion
for centuries. Through the philosophical scope, there is a Problem of Evil that challenges the
existence an all powerful God if there is evil in the world. Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, was a
German philosopher who argued about the topic of the problem of evil. Leibniz argued that (1) evil
is not necessary; (2) that there is evil in the world because as humans we are restricted in our
knowledge since we are merely made in the image of God, but we are not God and thus we are
exposed to evil; and (3) God didn t create evil but evil exists because of the free willof humans; all
of which I believe provides a clear solution to the problem of evil.
The problem of evil states that if evil exists in this world then there is no reasonable way that an
all powerful, benevolent God can exist, since if so, he would have made the world without evil.
However, Leibniz argues that evil is not necessary but it is a choice that we make. Evil is not
absolute and is not existent in all possible worlds since it is up to human choice. Evil is due to
human free will (Bailey 105). This theory proves that evil is not something that is absolute contrary
to the existence of God. However, it is something that is chosen and acted on by human, showing,
evil is not necessary or directly connect with God. This provides a solution to the problem of evil
because if evil is subject to the choice of humans, then

The Scottish National Party And Its Effects On Scotland...
The Scottish National Party was formed in 1934 following the merger of the National Party and the
Scottish and has had continuous representation at Westminster since the 1967 Winnie Ewing s
victory at the 1967 Hamilton by election. When the Scottish Parliament was formed in 1999, the
SNP became the second largest party in the Scottish legislature, serving two terms in opposition.
Alex Salmondbecame the leader of the SNP in 1990 and returned as leader in 2004, leading the
party to take the majority in Parliament following the 2011 Scottish Parliamentelection. This essay
will evaluate the importance Alex Salmond to the rise of the SNP and its effects on Scotlandand
Britain. Alex Salmond first decided to contest for leadership in 1990, following the resignation
of Gordon Wilson. Margaret Ewing was his only opponent at the time and his key alley Jim
Silarrs decided to support him, causing a considerable consternation with the SNP left as the
two main left leaders opposed each other in the contest. Salmond won the election by 486 votes
against Ewing s 146 (Deacon R., Sandry A., 2007). The first challenges came at the general
election in 1992, when the SNP had hopes of making an electoral breakthrough. The SNP
considerately increased its share of the vote, but it failed to win a large number if the seats.
Salmond s former ally Sillarrs lost his seat, leading him to describe the Scottish people as 90
minute patriots . Sillar s comment ended the long lasting political

Medieval Art Research Paper
Religion, Culture, and History
Welcome to the Museum of Medieval Art! Today we will take you on a guided tour to view four
religious artworks, two from the Late Antique era and two from the Early Byzantine era. Todays
topic will be how works of art express religious ideas and at the end of this tour you will be able to
understand why there is the transition from the physical depiction of Jesus in the Early Christian
artworks to a more divine depiction in the Early Byzantine. First we must start in during the Late
Antiquity period. Not many pieces of the Early Christian art works survived, therefore little is
known about them. However, the Christian artworks that remain we have inferred that many of the
creators may have not even been religious. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our first piece is the choir apse of San Vitale with a mosaic of Christ, Saint Vitale, and Bishop
Ecclesius, Ravenna Italy, 526 547. During this period of time the emperor Constantine had
previously arisen and founded Constantinople and later, which is where we will begin, the
emperor Justinian arises. During the reign of Justinian we see the construction of the San Vitale
church in which there lies our first piece of art to discuss. The mosaic depicts the second coming
and it has Jesus sitting on the world and extending a wreath to the martyr Saint Vitalis. The artist
here chose to add a small landscape, but Christ is not in it. We can infer that this shows that the
artists has a more divine rendition of Jesus and we can see this also rendered in the separation of
contact with the saints. Between them and Jesus are angels preventing direct contact and we can
see that the saints hands are covered for the passing of the wreath as well. This piece shows the
hardening of the Byzantine style and the distancing of Christ that contradicts the views of the
Early Christian s. This is evident in the Byzantines choice of a gold sky over the Early Christians
traditional blue one in Galla Placidia. The artist chose a movement towards the divinity of Christ
and he represents this in the elevation. We can infer that this happened due to the imperial
influences during the period and we can see these influences reflected in the artists choice for
purple robes that represent royalty and present Christ as ruler of the

Social Class Educational Structure in Brave New World
Introduction
Social stratification, or dividing people into classes, was and is still prevalent in society in many
ways. In every form division acts as an inhibitor for what certain citizens can do, but it helps form
a stable class structure as there is little mobility. Namely, stratification is most evident in the various
realms of education: elementary, secondary, and post secondary. The opportunities of specific
classes to achieve feats in education is often extremely disproportionate (Benson,1989, p. 159)
leaving lower classes at the bottom of society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brave New World Classes. Alphas, Betas, Gammas, and Epsilons, all of these common group
names make up the bulk of the class system in Huxley s Brave New World. Social stratification
prevails in this make believe society and is seen as a large contributor to the differing levels of
intellectual soundness of the different cast members. Citizens of Brave New World are
engineered in order to be either genius or dumb as a nail (Huxley, 1932, p. 25). Huxley (1932, p.
18) described the entire process as a major instrument of social stability for the community. By
depriving the lover classes of any intelligent prowess(opportunities) a secure society was forged in
the eyes of the Authorities. Differences in Education. In order to make the society even more
secure the leaders opened the doors of universities to the best and brightest that were decanted. I
found that the top schools, like Eton (Huxley, 1932, p. 148), in the book were only made available
to the most formidable thinkers. Such a system confirms my hypothesis that there was a vast
difference in just what chances different groups had at getting an education. Simply the fact that
these discrepancies exist demonstrates the power of social class in education. Differences in
opportunities. Social stratification affected education and many other aspects of society. While the

Essay On Major Depressive Disorder
There are numbers of dangerous non communicable diseases and disabilities that affect the daily
lives of millions of people. Non communicable diseases and disabilities can be physical, but they
can also be mental. One of these diseases is the Major Depressive Disorder or MDD. I chose this
mental disability because mental disabilities affect many people, but they often go unnoticed. This
article will explain what Major Depressive Disorderis, its effects, and how it can be controlled.
Major Depressive Disorder is a serious mental disability that affects approximately 14.8 million
adults in America. Though, what exactly is Major Depressive Disorder? The MDD is very
similar to moderate depression, but the symptoms are more severe. Episodes of this type of severe
depression often occur more than once in a person s life. The symptoms of this mental disability
can cause difficulty with eating, sleeping, enjoying life, working, and studying. A person
experiencing MDD may also have thoughts of suicide. Daily tasks become much harder with this

Some common practises include bible study which has been practised for millenniums and the
tradition of having a service every Sunday. The church is always practicing the three initiation

people with faith closer to the Christ. They teach that Jesus is the Son of God sent to die for the sins
of the world and God is a triune God, consisting of God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy

specifically its air cargoand freight services (known as FedEx Express), does not rely solely on the
hard work of people. Instead, success is the result of a vision, philosophy, approach, and perhaps
simply some good fortune; all of which can be found in closer look at the making of FedEx Express.
A Brief History of FedEx Express
In 1965, while attending Yale University as undergraduate student, a young Fred Smith submitted
a term paper detailing his vision of how the economic and logistical challenges facing delivery of
time sensitive shipments could be resolved using a simple, yet revolutionary, approach (Reichert,
2000). At the time, air freight was primarily transported via air passenger flights. The thesis was
that the problem was air freight service being an add on to air passenger service, and the solution
was to create an air freight industry (Reichert, 2000). Although it was 50 years ago that Fred Smith

Zipline Creative Writing
My feet thumped on the wooden stairs as I climbed up the fifth flight. I wondered if my partner
was getting nervous like me. I leaned over the edge and saw the world swirling below me like a
whirlpool. The trees swayed in the lite summer breeze, and their leaves rattled like maracas. I
looked over to my friend from camp. ВґВґAre you nervous? We are really high up.ВґВґ
ВґВґA little bit,ВґВґ She replied. ВґВґIt really isn t that bad.ВґВґ That didn t make me feel any

known that the high ropes course was a huge challenge and that it was a series of wobbly ropes and
wood planks. The line started to move again and I climbed up the last flight of stairs.
Suddenly, I remembered last year when I was first trying the zipline, I was standing in this exact

Description Of The Installation Police Received A Call...
At 13:45 EST on January 1st 20xx, the installation police received a call from Mr. X, a
supervisor at the gymnasium (also the location used for hosting redeployment ceremonies and
other functions). He reported that one of his workers Mr. Q, was in possession of a backpack
that he found unattended in the men s locker room. According to Mr. Q, he opened the bag out of
curiosity to find out if there is a name or any identification so that he can return it to the owner.
Mr. Q noticed an empty or dummy pipe bomb container inside the backpack. The supervisor
requested a patrol car and officer to be sent to the location. Officer A, was the first on the scene and
upon investigation and interview with the witness/worker determined that the package was a dud
/dummy. Officer A, was an Explosives Ordnance Soldier prior to joining the installation policeforce
and has extensive knowledge and experience with explosives. Officer A s assessment of the
situation was that, it could either be an expensive prank or a dry run for a future attack.
The installation police chief informed us of the situation, based off of Officer A s assessment,
knowledge and experience with explosives. Based on this tip from the installation police chief
together with other intelligence reports, there is a credible threat with indications of an imminent
attack, possibly involving the use of a crude pipe bomb for any type of CBRNE attack on the
installation. We do not have all the facts and although we will not

Blair House Internship
Although my four months interning at Blair House, the President s Guest House, was short, I
learned a great deal not only about collection management of a historical house, but also about the
history of an influential family and the history of diplomacy in the United States Government.
Previous to this internship, Blair House was not a place that I had any real knowledgeabout. My
limited wisdom came from a scene or two in a movie and television show. Learningso much about a
wonderful collection with so much historical value has been a once in a lifetime opportunity
Not only has this internship has been a life changing experience for me in my pursuit of a career in
collections management, but it has opened doors for me in the connections I made with the people
that work in the State Department. I was graciously welcomed into Blair House by people whose
passions align with mine. Being surrounded on a daily basis with a real sense of diplomacy and
history humbles most who walk through the house. The stories that are told on the curator led tours

Legal Services And The Legal Profession
The Legal Services Board was created under the Legal Services Act 2007 to promote particular
principles within the legal profession, one of these being to encourage an independent, strong,
diverse and effective legal profession . An important aspect of this is the idea of a diverse
profession; is this really an issue which can be resolved within the profession, or does the
encouragement of diversity have to begin right at the start of a person s legal education? In this
essay I will discuss different ways in which attempts have been made to improve diversity within
the legal profession and how effective these have been. I will then discuss the importance of law
school in shaping the attitudes and values of the legal minds in this... Show more content on

It cannot be denied that the situation has improved drastically, for instance, between 1978 and
2008 there was an increase of 332% in the number of female solicitors. However there is still a
long way to go to achieve a truly diverse legal profession, for example, in 2008, a study found
that out of solicitors who had entered the profession 10 19 years ago, 77% of men had reached
partner whereas only 48% of women had. This is not a problem limited to England and Wales,
and the President of the American Bar Association has argued that the first step towards a more
diverse legal profession is to develop our understanding of the roots of discrimination . According
to feminist scholar Carrie Menkel Meadow, unless we can radically alter legal education, we will
not be able to reconstruct our legal system or our society . The parity in numbers of male and
female solicitors that become partners mentioned above is often explained away, and there is a
common refusal to accept that this is a result of in house discrimination. Instead, male domination
of the more lucrative specialties...so important for promotion is said to be due to the discriminatory
behaviour of clients (though why such requests are endorsed remains to be seen). Sommerlad and
Sanderson have argued that even today the legal profession remains a masculine domain.

Mental Illness And Self Identity
This issue is relevant because mental illness and self identity are starting to become a popular
topic in our society. People are starting to realize that even though it may be a difficult subject to
speak and learn about, it is important and should be addressed in our society. This issue is
important because it helps people embrace who they are and learn about the issues instead of
hating on themselves for being different and not knowing the real facts about the issue. If we do
not learn how to treat mental illnessand accept ourselves, we will never move forward in society
and learn how to help others and ourselves with these topics. By learning more about these topics
we can help our society grow, by discovering new ways to help people with these problems. We
could decrease major issues in our society like mass shootings, and teen suicide. With this topic we
can make our society more aware and inclusive of those with these issues.
Currently, mental health is a major topic in our society with mass shootings and major crises with
our government because everyone says that the shooters were not in a good mental state, which
made them do these terrible things. Self identity is also a current issue among many young people
who do not know who they are and are still figuring it out. Teens who are not yet proud of their
individualism blend into society and become a brick in the wall instead of an individual who values
their unique qualities and culture. Today, these ideas are

The sequence of events that occur in the plot go like this: Two sons are born from Queen Sasha

terrible secret that would ultimately be a part of the downfall of Flagg. On the evening Flagg

There are many themes in the story of The Eyes of the Dragon. One of them is courage; another
is love for one s family. But the one that struck me as the most fascinating and also the most
reoccurring is the theme Good always triumphs over Evil or Good vs. Evil. The devious and evil
Flagg was a baneful monster who had the downfall and corruption of the kingdom of Delain
since the day of Allen II, one of the very early rulers of Delain. He would serve as the ruler s

The story is named The Eyes of the Dragon because Thomas s secret. Flagg once showed the

father the King. Also, in king Roland s

Some of the characters that affect it the most are Anne, Mr. Van Daan, and Miep Gies and Mr.

good at heart is a theme everybody should relate to in someway. Anne is one of the people that
impacts the theme in a very positive way. Anne is a person who always looks at the better side
of things in an situation. Even though they are forced to go into hiding for multiple years, she
talks of what she wants to do when they get out. This has a great affect on the rest of the people in
the annex. It gives them motivation and keeps their spirits up. She also is very thoughtful and
helpful. For instance, she was always helping people and giving them gifts all through out act one.

Scrum Research Paper
Scrum Scrum is a framework for managing processes in agile projects. Scrum relies on a self
organizing, cross functional team. There is no team leader in Scrum, because team is self
organized. Whole team is responsible for the decision making and for the results. Also, here
team is cross functional, that is why meetings are very important to understand who makes what.
There are only two separate roles in Scrum: Scrum Master (kind of coach of the team, teaching
the team to use Scrum) and Product Owner (behaves on behalf of customer or user, supporting
the team to build the right goods or services). Scrum is defined as a flexible, holistic product

Finding Truth In Walt Whitman s Song Of Myself
The Romantic Period was a time very different from that of the previous movement, the
Enlightenment. It was a time for creativity and it was a time of unity in nature and within
themselves. During the Enlightenment, science and reason prevailed. Everything had set rules on
how it should be and how people should act in their private and public lives. Truth was static and
never changing until the Romantic Movement. Truth changed and was based on an individual s
experience. Whereas during the Romantic period. Transcendentalists were people found during this
time who, according to A Handbook to Literature, believed in finding truth within oneself where
individuals could hear the voice of God. They believed each person should find his or her own path
to walk with God instead of relying on an institution. This differed from the ideals of the
Enlightenment in that during the Enlightenment, some believed that science was all the God one
needed. Science was the place truth and knowledge was found, and there was no place in science
for God. Dionysus, the god of wine, fertility, and music is found throughout the works of Romantic
authors and is seen as an opposition to reason from the Enlightenment.

Iran-Contra Affair Essay
Iran Contra: Crossing That Line I think everyone knew we were walking a very thin line. (Owen)
Not many Americans know the truth that lies behind the Iran Contra scandals. Most would be
surprised to know about the deception of our leaders. Still today, some truth of Iran Contra lies
hidden in the conscience of the people who organized it, aided it, and went through with it. It
started with good intentions, but soon was corrupted. Some may argue that we must do what we
can to smother the flame of communism, but I believe that deception, abuse of power and
bloodshed is no way to go about it. To fully understand Iran Contra, you must know the history

Characteristics Of A Poorly Written Report
As a police officer, the difference between a well written and poorly written report is massive. A
poorly written report can leave out crucial points that will affect the outcome of each case. There
are certain rules of writing when writing a report, that will change a poorly written report to a well
written one.
The first rule is writing in first person. An officer should always refer to themselves as I or me.
Doing this will clearly identify you as being the person doing the investigation. It will look good to
those reading your report, and also sound good to those who will hear your testimony. This will let
the reader know that is was the officer that conducted the investigation writing the report and not a
separate person recounting details and possibly missing facts. The second rule to writing is writing
in the past tense. The events in the report have already happened, and therefore should be written
in the past tense. By writing this way, you will develop consistency, therefore creating a report
that is professional and easy to read. The third rule is to use an active voice in your report. This
style of writing shows who is doing an action, instead of a passive voice which shows who is
having something done to them. This will allow the officer to mention first who was doing the
action before stating the action itself. The fourth rule in writing is to write in chronological order.

Bell Hooks
Women, Writing and Language: Broadening the Definition of Dominance
In her essay entitled Teaching the New Worlds/ New Words, bell hooks focuses on exploring and
illuminating the close link between language and oppression from a feminist perspective.
Recording that language is a self imposing kaleidoscope of productive challenges and assistances
that is impossible to bond or repress; she suggests that trying to circumscribe, it according to their
interest is precisely what oppressors do with it. Hooks adresses African Americans relationship to
the Standard English as a reality more than a mere case study, and illuminating that how their native
language, their most immense mean of bonding to each other had been taken away from them and

It can be seen that the poem clearly had an affection of hooks since the two texts have visibly
parallel mindsets. In fact, hooks highlights that parallelism by quoting a line from Rich: This is
the oppressor s language yet I need it to talk to you. (1) recurrently. hooks expresses that the words
of Rich inherently possess the power to demand disobedience to domination through language and
they evoke a deep craving to reach out the colonized peoples, to internalize how they suffered, got
killed, made languageless, exiled, marginalized. Naturally, Rich does not make this call by a
theoretical, dull understanding but through summoning to sympathy, ability to feel the expelled
through the imagination derived from being the other: being the other is the catalyst of the
unification that awakens the oppressed and make them seize the language, reinvent and utilize it
to celebrate their differences; and synchronously, draw in the non others to a unfamilliar
landscape of language. Even though the words of the other would occur to the non other as alien,
the effort on encouraging the majority to walk on the land of the other s knowledge without a
claim of mastery or superiority is crucial for a multicultural society to offer life to a broader range
of individuals. Also, this sense of learning without a sense of supremacy is one significant

Buddy Bolden Research Paper
The person whom invented Jazz was born in uptown New Orleans on September 6, 1877 to Alice
and Westmore Bolden. Charles Buddy Bolden grew up in one of the most musically rich cities in
all of the United States during the time, and it would have great influence in his life. As a young
man, Buddy made money as a barber, however his heart was truly in his music. The cornet was his
instrument, and he could play like nobody else. He was famously known as The King because of
how well he played the cornet, as well as his public demand and popularity. Buddy s playing
married all of the contemporary popular styles of music, creating something never before heard,
Jazz. Jazz music emerged from the confluence of New Orleans s diverse musical

undergone different geological developments. Formation of the Kufra Basin began in the Early
Paleozoic, and was complete at the end of the Lower Cretaceous. The Dakhla Basin was presumably
formed at the beginning of the Cretaceous (at least its southern portion).
In addition to the geological developments described above, the aquifer area also comprises the
upper Nile Platform in Egypt, as well as the Northern Sudan Platform in Sudan. These are, however,
areas of minor importance for groundwater resources. The NSAS changes gradually from
continental sandy facies in the southern regions, to intercalations of sandstones and clays of
alternating continental and shallow marine facies in the central regions, to mainly marine facies in

Voyager 1, launched over 35 years ago, reached the barrier between our solar system and the vast
unexplored interstellar space beyond in August 2012. Imagine the stories that probe could tell!
As the Titan Centaur rocket boosters rattle to life beneath it the intrepid robot takes off for a
record breaking 40 year trip alone in space, going places no man made thing has gone before.
There will be tales of Jupiter and Saturn s fascinating moons and atmospheres, the amazing

Many questions posed by scientists about Saturn s atmosphere had gone unanswered for many
years, because, like with Jupiter, photos from Earth had not been of high enough quality. The
Voyager probes were able to fix that. Information relayed back to Earth from the two probes (which
reached Saturn nine months apart, Voyager 1 first in 1980, Voyager 2 in 1981) helped scientists get
a much better understanding. Though the atmosphere was expected to be quite similar in
composition to the Sun and to Jupiter, Saturn s atmosphere was actually quite different. There was
significantly less Helium in Saturn s outmost atmosphere, leading to many interesting conclusions,
including that heavier Helium was sinking lower in the atmosphere (Voyager Saturn, NASA).
Saturn was also determined to have a lighter density than any other planet and is, in fact, less dense
than water. The varying composition of the atmosphere also leant ideas to why Saturn was far
warmer than expected, calculating temperature based solely on solar energy, registering between
10 degrees Kelvin at the poles and 143 Kelvin closer to the equator, according to Voyager 1 s
radio measurements (these also measured pressure) (Voyager Saturn, NASA). One of the other
things determined by the Voyager probes was the extreme speed of the wind on Saturn. Wind
blows at speeds of about 500 meters per second near the equator (Voyager Saturn,

wants them to because there polluting the space. Another quote is you have yet a chance and
hope of escaping my fate. A chance and hope of my procuring, Ebenezer. (15) Repetition is being

middle of his transformation, Scrooge is being told to change how he is or else he will end up
being in the same place of where marley is. He needs to change now before he turn into how
Marley is after he died, and make Scrooge regret everything he has done, and that he needs to

Love and Lust in Love s Labours Lost
Love is a familiar. Love is a devil. There is no evil angel but Love. (Love s Labours Lost. 1.2.) This
Shakespearean quote relies on the fact that love can lead to many misfortunes, presented as one
of the aspects of love in both William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream , and Wole
Soyinka s The Lion and the Jewel . One aspect of lovedemonstrates its brilliant sides, and with it,
brings affection, faith, and intimacy. However, it is also noted that an equal aspect of love conveys
the consequences and misfortunes, the negative connotations of love, which the essay will be
exploring, broken down into several characteristics: lust, manipulation, and hatred, which both plays
share in correspondence and in distinction. In A Midsummer... Show more content on

The most apparent is the approach of manipulation: Oberon uses the magic of the flower s juice,
while Baroka uses cunning and experience from his previous adventures to lure Sidi. Additionally,
they differ in another way as Oberon used manipulation as means of torture, while Baroka utilized
it for the seduction of Sidi. Nonetheless, both plays relate to manipulation as it is used for the
advantages of the schemer, but is unrelated as by the method of how it is used.
Finally, both plays are incomplete without another significance of love, and that is hatred, and
roots in both plays from the fact that there were two men competing for the love of a female, and
the opposing men share the hatred between each other. In A Midsummer Night s Dream, after
the love potion was mistakenly applied to an additional male, the two men, Lysander and
Demetrius both constantly bicker and fight for Helena: Where is Demetrius? Oh, how fit a word
/Is that vile name to perish on my sword! (Lysander, 2.2.112 113) In The Lion and the Jewel, the
village chief, Baroka, and the young schoolteacher, Lakunle, both share a similar struggle the war
for Sidi s love and Lakunle frequently insult(s) the Bale. (Willis) The distinctions, however, lay on
the end result and as to how the hatred was resolved. Firstly, in A Midsummer Night s Dream, the

Reflection Of Art
Art is all around the world and everywhere we go and has been since the beginning of time. Most
of the early artworks was visual arts, such as paintings, sculptures, printmaking and many other
things. The purpose of art is the creative way to express our emotions to empower or inspire
people, or it could bring out different emotions within ourselves, depending on how you look at
it. Many of the art pieces have a story to tell or it can express the state of mind and feeling of the
artist when the art was produced. Art is here today and will be tomorrow as well because art is
now a part of our society. For my three pieces of artworks to write about, I chose an artist that has
many art pieces in many galleries. His style is absolutely creative and different. Nothing like I ve
ever since before. The first painting I observed is by an artist who has been a street artist since
1985, Gary John. He grew up in Seattle but moved to Venice, California in 2003 and began
selling his art pieces on the boardwalk. One art piece of his that I found interesting is 31st street
in 3 D , 2015. The 41 x 29 inch art is drawn on a paper of what looks like an architectural plan.
John drew a big 3 D, old school television with an antenna right in the center of it with black
paint. On the left side of it, he drew with red paint, repetition of circles and lines with an arrow on
the top. With the same red paint, he drew a simplified outline of a house. Rectangle shaped house
with a triangle roof top.

Altruism
True altruism does not exist . Discuss with reference to psychological theory and research.
Many have defined altruism in a similar context, a special form of helping behaviour that is an act
that is motivated by the desire to benefit another individual rather than oneself (Hogg Vaughan,
2008). An altruistic act does not necessarily have a negative or zero value to the actor (Margolis,
1982) but a true altruistic act is detrimental to the actor s fitness and enhances another individual s
fitness, in other words, a selfless act (Batson, 1991). Throughout the evolution of altruism, there
have been many controversies about the existence of true altruism. Most theories have argued that
it stems from ulterior motives, but does that prove ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another motive of altruism to gain indirect returns is the egoistic motives. It is suggested by
Mandeville (1732), where a person who is in a situation that causes personal distress would behave
altruistically to relieve that particular distress.
Although theories that suggest the non existence of true altruism may be persuasive, it does not
explain the reasons for selfless deeds done by famous figures for their love and services to people
such as Mother Teresa. Batson (1991) suggested a hypothesis and feels that some people are
genuinely concerned about other people s welfare. According to his empathy altruism hypothesis,
empathic concerns produce altruism motivation and relieving their sufferings is the main priority.
This hypothesis is supported by several experiments where participants are typically given an
opportunity to help those in need for whom they have been led to different levels of empathic
concerns.
Also, recent news has reported that chimpanzees (Choi, 2007) and toddlers (China Daily, 2006)
have shown true altruistic behaviour.
In conclusion, the existence of altruism has yet to be proven but that does not mean it does not
exist. More research has to be done in this field to explain about other cases to prove its existence.

Health Care for Migrant Farm Workers Essay
Although agriculture is one of the most hazardous jobs in the United States, there is a huge gap in
healthcare for those that work in the industry. Due to the large migrant and seasonal worker
population, especially those from Mexico, it is a hard population to reach when it comes to
healthcare needs. Fear, language barriers and cultural norms are all barriers that need to be
addressed for this special population. (Holmes 2011) Agriculture is one of the most hazardous
occupations in the United States. In 2000, there were 780 deaths and 130,000 disabling injuries in
agriculture. The only industry that had more deaths was construction, with 1,220. (Hansen and

These results are useful for targeting injury prevention efforts and future research needs for this
unique worker population. (Wang, Myers et al. 2011) Those that experience food insecurity and
hunger are at an increased risk for occupational injury and illness when compared to those that
were food secure. (Borre, Ertle et al. 2010)Food insecurity by definition is the lack of access at
all times to enough food for an active and healthy lifestyle due to socioeconomic and
environmental barriers. Hunger is the lack of access to sufficient food and eating regularly to
prevent both stomach pain and the desire to eat. (Borre, Ertle et al. 2010) Out of the study
participants, 63.8% were found to be food insecure and 34.7% of those experienced hunger.
(Borre, Ertle et al. 2010)In addition to studying food insecurity and hunger, this paper also looked
at the prevalence of overweight and obesity in the children of these farm workers. The majority of
interviewed participants cited that they were concerned about obesity and the related health
problems. It was found that food secure families were more likely to have children with overweight
and obesity than those families that were food insecure. This study illustrates the extreme health
disparities related to diet in the MSFW population that needs to be addressed. The Migrant Head

The Takers And The Leavers By Daniel Quinn
The story begins with Daniel Quinn writing about a day in his life, until he comes upon an absurd
advertisement in the personals section of the newspaper: TEACHER seeks pupil. Must have an
earnest desire to save the world. Apply in person. Suspicious, Quinn investigates this advertisement
with intentions of exposing fraud. Instead, he discovers Ishmael in Room 105 of a undistinguished
office building. Sitting calmly, Ishmael gently nibbled on a slender branch. Appalled, Quinn
stumbled towards the chair. Ishmael and Quinn gazed into each other s eyes, and much to his
disgruntlement, the glowing eyes spoke to him. Nodding his head to the unspoken question,
Ishmael quietly said, I am the teacher. Ishmael explains that Quinn is part of a culture, that results
in him being taught certain stories between the relationships of man, the world, and the Gods.
These explanations will be made clearer to the pupil by being assisted in recognizing why the
stories are misleading. Ishmael s goal will show the narrator that human history comes from two
groups, the Takers and the Leavers. These groups legislate two completely different stories about
man, the world, and the Gods. Takers are the humans who developed agricultureand civilization,
who still dominate on Earth today. The Leavers, in contradiction, are those who don t adopt
agricultural practices and disregard the benefits of civilization.
In lessons, Ishmael asks Quinn to explain other stories that the Takers imagine. The pupil

Essay on The Punishments of the Medieval era
The Punishments of the Medieval Era When Shakespeare was born in 1564, Queen Elizabeth
had taken power a mere 6 years prior, and her justice system was very different from ours. In this
paper, I hope to explore some of the ways punishments were different, such as how many crimes
had individual punishments, often times depending on how severe the crime was. I will also go
in depth to one of the most infamous cases of the medieval period. Imprisonment was very rare.
If you were in jail, you were there because you were on trial, and you weren t allowed to return
home. Trials were very brief and if you were charged of a felony or treason, you weren t allowed to
have a lawyer. Unsurprisingly, trials were quick, with extremely... Show more content on

The chair would be continuously lowered and raised into a river, as I previously mentioned. The
Cucking stool often drew in large crowds people who would laugh at the person. People who
would be stubborn and not speak at their hearings would be forced to lie on their backs on top of
a large pointy stone, while stones would be continuously put on wooden boards on their chests
until the weight eventually crushed them. Thieves were slightly odd in the medieval times as
far as they re punishments went. Thieves could get their first sentences reduced if they had
learned of the benefits of becoming a member of the clergy. These benefits were lost if these
people were repeat offenders. The theft of farm animals, which was considered a smaller crime,
they would have their left hand burned as a permanent mark of shame. This also would occur if
they had broken into another man s home, but this man didn t feel as if his life was in danger
from the break in. Repeat offenders were sentenced to death. In addition to all of these, people
who took their own lives were to buried with a stake shoved through their graves. At the end of
my look into how justice was served back in Shakespeare s time, I ll give a brief examination of
what many people think of when they hear something about Medieval times, Torture. When John
Gerad, a priest/spy, was captured by Queen Elizabeth s guard, he was spent 3 years in captivity,

The Relationship Between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth Essay
The Relationship Between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth face an extraordinary situation involving a strong supernatural theme
and murder and treason of the highest kind. However Shakespeare still cleverly manages to make
Lady Macbeth and Macbeth relate to audiences of all eras and to convey a strong moral message
within his play.
The relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth is fascinating to study. Shakespeare
constantly changes their attitude to each other throughout the play, making it hard to form a clear
cut opinion of their relationship. My personal opinion is that, although events in the play certainly
draw Macbeth and Lady Macbeth apart, their love for one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

By letting his wife announce that they must kill Duncan, Macbeth is able to offload some of the
guilt of the deed onto her he uses Lady Macbeth as a scapegoat for his already guilty conscience.
Upon sending the letter Macbeth immediately goes to see his wife. In my opinion he does this
so that Lady Macbeth is ready to begin to override Macbeth s good characteristics immediately.
When Macbeth loses Lady Macbeth s support later on in the play he is forced to act
independently of her, and so loses the ability to murder. I feel that his actions throughout the play
are an indication of Macbeth s dependency on his wife, as well as his misuse of their love in order
to claim the title of King. He refers to Lady Macbeth as: [his] dearest partner of greatness showing
that Macbeth envisages them sharing the power of the throne.
In his soliloquy Macbeth admits that he has no spur To prick the sides of [his] intent which
indicates that Macbeth knows that he will require Lady Macbeth to be his spur , and coax him
into murdering Duncan. He also knows that by allowing Lady Macbeth to take up such a
domineering role she will take the murder out of his hands, thus freeing him from a great deal of
guilt.
Upon receiving the letter, Lady Macbeth immediately responds to Macbeth s wishes, realising that

Summary Of The Book Cracked Up To Be By Courtney Summers
Courtney Summers has spent her time writing since she was 18 years old. She was born in
Belleville, Ontario in 1986 and currently lives in a town not too far from there. She dropped out of
high school at age 14 because she was unhappy with her school environment. She pursued her
education independently and spent those years trying to figure out what she wanted to be. At age
18, she decided she wanted to be a writer. She has five total novels, all the which include a
depressing vibe from her. They all include fear, bullying, depression, suicide, and being mentally

Her book, Some Girls Are, was written because she tried to understand bullying better sense she
was dealing with bullies at a younger age. She wrote Fall For Anything because she s fascinated
by the way we grieve and handle losing loved ones. That book is basically all about grief and
loss. After that, she wrote the book This is Not a Test because she loves everything about
zombies, and she thought it would be interesting to experience a zombie apocalypse through the
eyes of someone determined to die. A numerous amount of people read her books because they
can relate to the main character, or maybe relate to the problems going on in the books. It s
fascinating how you can write a book about simple life problems and it becomes a huge deal. A
great deal of people share the same life problems, such as being a rape victim (which happens
quite often), being bullied, being mentally off balance, and etc. Besides being a writer, she also

  • 2. The On The Beauty Of Lionfish Lionfish come with red, maroon or brown stripes and specks on their body and flashy fins. Their beautiful long fins flowing gracefully in the water and dramatic colors are fascinating and inspiring. No doubt lionfish are one of popular aquarium fishes as well as painting subjects. As my final project, I want to create a captivating image, while enjoying exploration of the beauty and details of lionfish. For the underwater backdrop, I want to suggest a coral reef environment. A solid or simple blueunderwater backdrop would be sufficient to show the beauty of lionfish, but it is too plain for my taste. I decide to paint underwater ripples along with a brain coral. The challenge is creating a background that doesn t compete against the flamboyant and colorful lionfish, yet adds enough interest to the viewer s eye. Palette : new gamboge, quinacridone gold, phthalo green, cobalt turquoise, phthalo blue, ultramarine blue, Prussian blue, indigo, burnt sienna, brown madder, magenta, purple 1. I sketch out the Lionfish first on tracing paper. I have a few reference photos of lionfish, however none of them has a perfect form of their fins. After I select one which has a good body shape, I alter the imperfect fin shapes. Once I finalize the shapes of the fins, I draw the details of stripes on the body and fins. I also pay close attention to fin rays and specks. When I finish working on the lionfish, I draw the outline of the dome shaped brain coral and a few lines across the ... • 3. Essay On The Difference Between Civil Law And American... Compared to the rest of the industrialized world, the United States is a fairly young country. As a result, the U.S. has many institutions that differ from other advanced industrial democracies. One of the most prominent differences between the U.S. and the rest of the industrialized world resides in our legal systems. While the most common democratic judicial tradition, especially in social democracies, is the civil law tradition, the U.S. differs and has a common lawlegal tradition. Many differences exist between civil and common law traditions and the United Stateslegal system would have stark changes if it switched to a civil legal system. A key difference between civil and common law legal systems is the role of the legal code. In civil law, the legal code is the supreme source of justice in a society; a handbook on citizen rights, responsibilities, and the law (Poloni Staudinger and Wolf 2016, p.97). In civil law, the the legal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In common law systems, less emphasis is placed on strictly following the words of the legal code, but rather following the precedent set by previous cases findings. Furthermore, as mentioned earlier, judges in common law nations have a prestigious connotation attached to their role. They hold a highly sought after position and earn their black robe through the culmination of their legal career. With the defendant under the presumption of innocence, these judges and the court act as neutral actors and let the two opposing sides argue their case in front of a jury. Because of this, the common law system is referred to as adversarial (Poloni Staudinger and Wolf 2016, p.100). One of the biggest differences amongst common and civil law systems is the role of judicial review. Unlike in nations with civil law, common law societies have a tremendous amount of judicial review oversight of legislative or executive actions by the judiciary (Poloni Staudinger and Wolf 2016, ... • 4. Coram Boy Essay What do we learn about life in the 18th century and how successfully does the writer convey this information whilst telling us a good story? The story is set in the 18th century and includes factual information which plays a vital part in the storyline. It uses this information whilst entertaining the readers with a fictional storyline. It is based on one thing in particular, hence the title The Coram Boy , this is The Coram Hospital. A main factor in the storyline is the way the writer portrays society s attitude to poverty in the 18th century. The poor people were treated tremendously different to higher classed people. A lot of people were even living on the streets. For example, He picked his way through the hordes of homeless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alexander is much higher classed. It shows how he feels to be in the company of those higher classed. This is then contrasted by The food was borne in on silver platters by white gloved manservants; food he had never even seen before: venison pie, partridge breasts, grilled trout, slivers of ham, trifle with cream and jam, cheese and little biscuits this shows the wealth of Alexander s family. These two examples clearly show the difference between different classes. The next main factor in the story is society s attitude towards illegitimacy. Any woman who bore a child out of wedlock was treated with disgust and held an air of shame and disgrace. This caused those who did happen to have their children out of wedlock to give them up and send them off to orphanages in hope their child would be alright. A lot of these single mothers tried to send their children to one such orphanage called The Coram Hospital . An example is when Melissa, a young girl just found out she was pregnant and says And Mama? What about Mama? The disgrace. We ll both be thrown out. Destitute. This is a good example of the consequences of illegitimacy. If anybody found out about such circumstances the mother and her acquaintances would be thrown out and homeless. The writer includes this factual information in the story and it entwines ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The book was most about a young adventures girl that had an adventure in a place, she was trapped in a place where she learns about elements and how they help her get out. It talked about what the elements in the periodic table do and what they are use and some examples of the stuff made for it. The bookis telling us about the states of matter and how they are use and what they use for with the ways people interact with them. 1 Julie learns about the periodic table and how it is use and learns the states of matter and what they are. The first one or one of the state of matter is solids. Solids are matter that have weight or shape of an object that takes up space on earth, because It is something stable that cant move that easy. People use gases from or air from trees that they covert and we use to breathe, we also use gases from natural resources for energy. Animals rely on air because plants need it to make food and animals eat the grass or their host that does. We use machines that use gases like propane that burns like gas to make machines function right. An example of gases is air, propane. I came upon this grove of Cypress trees. They were beautiful. I, at that moment, tripped over a root. Falling hard on the ground and scraping my knee, noticed a good number of roly polies(woodlice), and remembering my cute little hedgehog grabbed a bag from my pack and grabbed a handful of them. At that moment something jumped from the tree and landed on my head. Caught completely off guard I fell over with it on my face. • 9. Analysis Of The Nymph s Reply To The Shepherd No matter how much you ve tried and no matter how long you ve waited for the one you love because if you really love that person you re willing to wait for him/her no matter what happened. In the shepherd s desperation, he resorts to materialism as he believes this is the only way his love will be returned. However, the nymph in The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd is not so easily seduced by such attractive images, pointing out that flowers do fade and all of the things the shepherd promises Soon break, soon wither, soon forgotten. From the very beginning it is written whole heartedly by Christopher Marlowe, deep words were the ones to show the impact of love in this life. Love your life that gives the perfection. It gives me an impression of having the good side or the brighter feeling of being loved. It makes me happy to read this kind of poem while conceptualizing the essence of having myself in the situation of the author. The author show his full respect to his loved one and I felt so in love with the way how did the author dedicate his love only for his loved one. Having this kind of poem in my mind makes me feel the right things to do and to think while being in love with a person. The reply of Sir Walter Raleighto Christopher Marlowe s poem is very entertaining because of the conviction that Sir Walter Raleigh s reply is a total rejection to each and every word that Marlowe has been written. • 10. Harry Connick Jr. Television Show Effect On Society After visiting the Harry show it has made me wonder about how Harry Connick Jr. television show effect people in society. Being that millions of people watch his show, I know it has to have some impact on different communities. The episode that we attended have sent different messages to many people of all ages, and influence those as well. Harry is a big face as a celebrity, so whether if he is a televisionhost, singer, or actor, whatever he does will affect people negatively or positively. For example, when Harry introduced Jacob Tremblay who starred in a hit movie Wonder on the show. It may have sent a message to the youth in society stating that whatever age you are, you can achieve anything you put your mind to. The episode also shows how not everyone have a chance to experience being an audience of a show or even being ask to talk on a show, so we should take advantage of every opportunity that is offered. Also when Guillermo Diaz who plays in a drama series Scandal, it also sends a meaning to adults as well. From this episode I learn that society offers plenty, not everyone is as kind as Harry and his crew members, and not everyone is willing to give people a chance a equality. I agree that Harry reinforce social value on that episode because of the fact that he treated everyone like family. In term paper part I, I talk about how Harry feels like talk shows shouldn t be about judging someone or gossiping but rather positivity and things that are important in ... • 11. The Existence Of God And The Battle Between Good And Evil The existence of God and the battle between good and evil has been a topic of much discussion for centuries. Through the philosophical scope, there is a Problem of Evil that challenges the existence an all powerful God if there is evil in the world. Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, was a German philosopher who argued about the topic of the problem of evil. Leibniz argued that (1) evil is not necessary; (2) that there is evil in the world because as humans we are restricted in our knowledge since we are merely made in the image of God, but we are not God and thus we are exposed to evil; and (3) God didn t create evil but evil exists because of the free willof humans; all of which I believe provides a clear solution to the problem of evil. The problem of evil states that if evil exists in this world then there is no reasonable way that an all powerful, benevolent God can exist, since if so, he would have made the world without evil. However, Leibniz argues that evil is not necessary but it is a choice that we make. Evil is not absolute and is not existent in all possible worlds since it is up to human choice. Evil is due to human free will (Bailey 105). This theory proves that evil is not something that is absolute contrary to the existence of God. However, it is something that is chosen and acted on by human, showing, evil is not necessary or directly connect with God. This provides a solution to the problem of evil because if evil is subject to the choice of humans, then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Scottish National Party And Its Effects On Scotland... The Scottish National Party was formed in 1934 following the merger of the National Party and the Scottish and has had continuous representation at Westminster since the 1967 Winnie Ewing s victory at the 1967 Hamilton by election. When the Scottish Parliament was formed in 1999, the SNP became the second largest party in the Scottish legislature, serving two terms in opposition. Alex Salmondbecame the leader of the SNP in 1990 and returned as leader in 2004, leading the party to take the majority in Parliament following the 2011 Scottish Parliamentelection. This essay will evaluate the importance Alex Salmond to the rise of the SNP and its effects on Scotlandand Britain. Alex Salmond first decided to contest for leadership in 1990, following the resignation of Gordon Wilson. Margaret Ewing was his only opponent at the time and his key alley Jim Silarrs decided to support him, causing a considerable consternation with the SNP left as the two main left leaders opposed each other in the contest. Salmond won the election by 486 votes against Ewing s 146 (Deacon R., Sandry A., 2007). The first challenges came at the general election in 1992, when the SNP had hopes of making an electoral breakthrough. The SNP considerately increased its share of the vote, but it failed to win a large number if the seats. Salmond s former ally Sillarrs lost his seat, leading him to describe the Scottish people as 90 minute patriots . Sillar s comment ended the long lasting political ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Medieval Art Research Paper Religion, Culture, and History Welcome to the Museum of Medieval Art! Today we will take you on a guided tour to view four religious artworks, two from the Late Antique era and two from the Early Byzantine era. Todays topic will be how works of art express religious ideas and at the end of this tour you will be able to understand why there is the transition from the physical depiction of Jesus in the Early Christian artworks to a more divine depiction in the Early Byzantine. First we must start in during the Late Antiquity period. Not many pieces of the Early Christian art works survived, therefore little is known about them. However, the Christian artworks that remain we have inferred that many of the creators may have not even been religious. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our first piece is the choir apse of San Vitale with a mosaic of Christ, Saint Vitale, and Bishop Ecclesius, Ravenna Italy, 526 547. During this period of time the emperor Constantine had previously arisen and founded Constantinople and later, which is where we will begin, the emperor Justinian arises. During the reign of Justinian we see the construction of the San Vitale church in which there lies our first piece of art to discuss. The mosaic depicts the second coming and it has Jesus sitting on the world and extending a wreath to the martyr Saint Vitalis. The artist here chose to add a small landscape, but Christ is not in it. We can infer that this shows that the artists has a more divine rendition of Jesus and we can see this also rendered in the separation of contact with the saints. Between them and Jesus are angels preventing direct contact and we can see that the saints hands are covered for the passing of the wreath as well. This piece shows the hardening of the Byzantine style and the distancing of Christ that contradicts the views of the Early Christian s. This is evident in the Byzantines choice of a gold sky over the Early Christians traditional blue one in Galla Placidia. The artist chose a movement towards the divinity of Christ and he represents this in the elevation. We can infer that this happened due to the imperial influences during the period and we can see these influences reflected in the artists choice for purple robes that represent royalty and present Christ as ruler of the ... In every form division acts as an inhibitor for what certain citizens can do, but it helps form a stable class structure as there is little mobility. Namely, stratification is most evident in the various realms of education: elementary, secondary, and post secondary. The opportunities of specific classes to achieve feats in education is often extremely disproportionate (Benson,1989, p. 159) leaving lower classes at the bottom of society. ... Social stratification prevails in this make believe society and is seen as a large contributor to the differing levels of intellectual soundness of the different cast members. Citizens of Brave New World are engineered in order to be either genius or dumb as a nail (Huxley, 1932, p. 25). Huxley (1932, p. 18) described the entire process as a major instrument of social stability for the community. By depriving the lover classes of any intelligent prowess(opportunities) a secure society was forged in the eyes of the Authorities. Differences in Education. In order to make the society even more secure the leaders opened the doors of universities to the best and brightest that were decanted. I found that the top schools, like Eton (Huxley, 1932, p. 148), in the book were only made available to the most formidable thinkers. Such a system confirms my hypothesis that there was a vast difference in just what chances different groups had at getting an education. Simply the fact that these discrepancies exist demonstrates the power of social class in education. Differences in opportunities. Social stratification affected education and many other aspects of society. While the Alphas and Betas were playing obstacle golf the Epsilons and Gammas were busy battling the many ... At the close of the report, the chairman of the board credited the employees as the most important factor in such favorable outcomes. Nearly 40 years later, the message and tone of the FedExCorporation (2015a) Annual Report was again boasting a transformative year, and crediting its employees. But the success of FedEx Corporation, and specifically its air cargoand freight services (known as FedEx Express), does not rely solely on the hard work of people. Instead, success is the result of a vision, philosophy, approach, and perhaps simply some good fortune; all of which can be found in closer look at the making of FedEx Express. A Brief History of FedEx Express In 1965, while attending Yale University as undergraduate student, a young Fred Smith submitted a term paper detailing his vision of how the economic and logistical challenges facing delivery of time sensitive shipments could be resolved using a simple, yet revolutionary, approach (Reichert, 2000). At the time, air freight was primarily transported via air passenger flights. The thesis was that the problem was air freight service being an add on to air passenger service, and the solution was to create an air freight industry (Reichert, 2000). It cannot be denied that the situation has improved drastically, for instance, between 1978 and 2008 there was an increase of 332% in the number of female solicitors. However there is still a long way to go to achieve a truly diverse legal profession, for example, in 2008, a study found that out of solicitors who had entered the profession 10 19 years ago, 77% of men had reached partner whereas only 48% of women had. This is not a problem limited to England and Wales, and the President of the American Bar Association has argued that the first step towards a more diverse legal profession is to develop our understanding of the roots of discrimination . According to feminist scholar Carrie Menkel Meadow, unless we can radically alter legal education, we will not be able to reconstruct our legal system or our society . The parity in numbers of male and female solicitors that become partners mentioned above is often explained away, and there is a common refusal to accept that this is a result of in house discrimination. Instead, male domination of the more lucrative specialties...so important for promotion is said to be due to the discriminatory behaviour of clients (though why such requests are endorsed remains to be seen). People are starting to realize that even though it may be a difficult subject to speak and learn about, it is important and should be addressed in our society. This issue is important because it helps people embrace who they are and learn about the issues instead of hating on themselves for being different and not knowing the real facts about the issue. If we do not learn how to treat mental illnessand accept ourselves, we will never move forward in society and learn how to help others and ourselves with these topics. By learning more about these topics we can help our society grow, by discovering new ways to help people with these problems. We could decrease major issues in our society like mass shootings, and teen suicide. With this topic we can make our society more aware and inclusive of those with these issues. Currently, mental health is a major topic in our society with mass shootings and major crises with our government because everyone says that the shooters were not in a good mental state, which made them do these terrible things. There is no team leader in Scrum, because team is self organized. Whole team is responsible for the decision making and for the results. Also, here team is cross functional, that is why meetings are very important to understand who makes what. There are only two separate roles in Scrum: Scrum Master (kind of coach of the team, teaching the team to use Scrum) and Product Owner (behaves on behalf of customer or user, supporting the team to build the right goods or services). Scrum is defined as a flexible, holistic product development strategy where a development team works as a unit to reach a common goal . • 39. Finding Truth In Walt Whitman s Song Of Myself The Romantic Period was a time very different from that of the previous movement, the Enlightenment. It was a time for creativity and it was a time of unity in nature and within themselves. During the Enlightenment, science and reason prevailed. Everything had set rules on how it should be and how people should act in their private and public lives. Truth was static and never changing until the Romantic Movement. Truth changed and was based on an individual s experience. Whereas during the Romantic period. Transcendentalists were people found during this time who, according to A Handbook to Literature, believed in finding truth within oneself where individuals could hear the voice of God. They believed each person should find his or her own path to walk with God instead of relying on an institution. This differed from the ideals of the Enlightenment in that during the Enlightenment, some believed that science was all the God one needed. Science was the place truth and knowledge was found, and there was no place in science for God. • 42. Characteristics Of A Poorly Written Report As a police officer, the difference between a well written and poorly written report is massive. A poorly written report can leave out crucial points that will affect the outcome of each case. There are certain rules of writing when writing a report, that will change a poorly written report to a well written one. The first rule is writing in first person. An officer should always refer to themselves as I or me. Doing this will clearly identify you as being the person doing the investigation. It will look good to those reading your report, and also sound good to those who will hear your testimony. This will let the reader know that is was the officer that conducted the investigation writing the report and not a separate person recounting details and possibly missing facts. The second rule to writing is writing in the past tense. The events in the report have already happened, and therefore should be written in the past tense. By writing this way, you will develop consistency, therefore creating a report that is professional and easy to read. The third rule is to use an active voice in your report. This style of writing shows who is doing an action, instead of a passive voice which shows who is having something done to them. This will allow the officer to mention first who was doing the action before stating the action itself. The fourth rule in writing is to write in chronological order. Many questions posed by scientists about Saturn s atmosphere had gone unanswered for many years, because, like with Jupiter, photos from Earth had not been of high enough quality. The Voyager probes were able to fix that. Information relayed back to Earth from the two probes (which reached Saturn nine months apart, Voyager 1 first in 1980, Voyager 2 in 1981) helped scientists get a much better understanding. Though the atmosphere was expected to be quite similar in composition to the Sun and to Jupiter, Saturn s atmosphere was actually quite different. There was significantly less Helium in Saturn s outmost atmosphere, leading to many interesting conclusions, including that heavier Helium was sinking lower in the atmosphere (Voyager Saturn, NASA). Saturn was also determined to have a lighter density than any other planet and is, in fact, less dense than water. The varying composition of the atmosphere also leant ideas to why Saturn was far warmer than expected, calculating temperature based solely on solar energy, registering between 10 degrees Kelvin at the poles and 143 Kelvin closer to the equator, according to Voyager 1 s radio measurements (these also measured pressure) (Voyager Saturn, NASA). One of the other things determined by the Voyager probes was the extreme speed of the wind on Saturn. Wind blows at speeds of about 500 meters per second near the equator (Voyager Saturn, ... Nonetheless, both plays relate to manipulation as it is used for the advantages of the schemer, but is unrelated as by the method of how it is used. Finally, both plays are incomplete without another significance of love, and that is hatred, and roots in both plays from the fact that there were two men competing for the love of a female, and the opposing men share the hatred between each other. Most of the early artworks was visual arts, such as paintings, sculptures, printmaking and many other things. The purpose of art is the creative way to express our emotions to empower or inspire people, or it could bring out different emotions within ourselves, depending on how you look at it. Many of the art pieces have a story to tell or it can express the state of mind and feeling of the artist when the art was produced. Art is here today and will be tomorrow as well because art is now a part of our society. For my three pieces of artworks to write about, I chose an artist that has many art pieces in many galleries. His style is absolutely creative and different. Nothing like I ve ever since before. The first painting I observed is by an artist who has been a street artist since 1985, Gary John. • 50. Altruism True altruism does not exist . Discuss with reference to psychological theory and research. Many have defined altruism in a similar context, a special form of helping behaviour that is an act that is motivated by the desire to benefit another individual rather than oneself (Hogg Vaughan, 2008). An altruistic act does not necessarily have a negative or zero value to the actor (Margolis, 1982) but a true altruistic act is detrimental to the actor s fitness and enhances another individual s fitness, in other words, a selfless act (Batson, 1991). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another motive of altruism to gain indirect returns is the egoistic motives. It is suggested by Mandeville (1732), where a person who is in a situation that causes personal distress would behave altruistically to relieve that particular distress. Although theories that suggest the non existence of true altruism may be persuasive, it does not explain the reasons for selfless deeds done by famous figures for their love and services to people such as Mother Teresa. Batson (1991) suggested a hypothesis and feels that some people are genuinely concerned about other people s welfare. According to his empathy altruism hypothesis, empathic concerns produce altruism motivation and relieving their sufferings is the main priority. This hypothesis is supported by several experiments where participants are typically given an opportunity to help those in need for whom they have been led to different levels of empathic concerns. Also, recent news has reported that chimpanzees (Choi, 2007) and toddlers (China Daily, 2006) have shown true altruistic behaviour. In conclusion, the existence of altruism has yet to be proven but that does not mean it does not exist. More research has to be done in this field to explain about other cases to prove its existence.
