Creating Feelings
We all agree movies allow us to escape and take us to places we ve never been and inside the skin of
people quite different from ourselves. They not only offer people a window onto the wider world, but
opens eyes to feelings and emotion. Audiences feel what the director wants the audience to feel. The
definition of feeling is an emotional state or reaction (feeling). This is, the motivation and
empowerment for anyone attempting to create a movie. Movies inspire all types of feelings like happy
when watching a comedy, scared while viewing a horror, or awe while enduring a romance. The
audience of a movie will feel multiple emotions at different times throughout any ... Show more

Green gooey vomit spews from a little girl s parched lips. Ghastly demons appear some barely visible
in fleeting subliminal cuts, others in ghoulish tableaus. The powerful imagery featured in the climactic
sequence of The Exorcist seems familiar and iconic now. Made in 1973, well before special effects
and computer animation, The Exorcist stands as a testament to imaginative filmmaking, this classic
The scene Friedkin describes below depicts the ultimate struggle of faith as two Jesuit priests played
by a young Jason Miller and a wizened Max von Sydow confront ancient demons, which have
possessed the body of an innocent 12 year old girl (Linda Blair).
The exorcism section took nearly a month to shoot and was filmed entirely in sequence, recalls
Friedkin, who says he was only able to complete about five shots a day due to the complexity and cold
temperature required. Most of it was shot with one camera, and all the sound was recorded separately
because of the unusual voices and audio gimmicks. By employing innovative mechanical effects, life
sized puppets, editing tricks, creative lighting and other techniques, Friedkin and his team created a
scene that remains unique in the history of horror films. I ll be honest with you, says the director,
proud of the film magic he achieved without the help of computers or other digital equipment. If I was
making The Exorcist today, I still wouldn t use much

Persuasive Essay On Secondhand Smoke
Introduction The federal government should pass a nationwide smoking ban from all indoor facilities.
There are many controversial statements out there, but indoor smoking should not be one of them.
There are many lives being affected by people smoking in public facilities. As this puts others at risk
for severe health problems.
Main Point #1 Many may ask what secondhand smoke is. Or many may ask is it harmful? Some may
think, just because I don t actually smoke cigarettes then it can t be dangerous. This is where people
need to be informed on just exactly what secondhand smoke is. According to the CDC website
Secondhand smoke comes from tobacco smoke such as cigarettes, and there are over 4,000 chemicals
in them while over 250 are the ones that they actually know that can cause deadly diseases. The CDC
website also states how many deaths are caused form secondhand exposure in the U.S every year, and
that is around 34,000. To think a lot of these deaths could have been prevented with the help of a ...

secondhand smoke increases their risk for SIDS, chronic cough, asthma attacks, respiratory and ear

Symbols In Night By Elie Wiesel
The Holocaust. A time of great despair and suffering in Europe, and fear all over the world. Mass
genocides of Jews, and death camps. No one could even imagine anything worse than this. A terrible
horror. Between the transports, ghettos, concentration camps, and the crematoriums, 6 million Jews in
Europe, all ages, were slain, burned, beaten, and starved to death. In the novel Night by Elie Wiesel,
readers experience his use of symbolism and it is important in helping the reader understand the
horrors the Jews experienced during the Holocaust. The first and most critical example of symbolism
is the title itself. Calling the novel Night makes it apparent that the Holocaust was a dark experience,
full of terror, death, and lots of suffering. Fire and corpses also make their way into that same
category. Altogether, these symbols make it clear to the reader that the Holocaust was full of sorrow,
death, suffering, and despair. During the night, Elie experiences despair and sorrow. The evening is a
time for the prisoners to feel the sensation of relief that is often overshadowed by uncertainty. The

Between the period 2011 and 2104, it is estimated that more than 485.000 workers emigrated, the
highest number in more than five decades, being most of them young and highly qualified, such as
doctors, nurses, and scientists. These negative impacts on the Portuguese growth led to a growing
political and popular hostility to austerity. Many believed that all of the austerity measures only led to
unemployment, job insecurity, and consequently poverty. Under those circumstances, the future of the
European project became under scrutiny and many began to question if Portugal should leave the euro

Joseph Stiglitz. The US economist and Columbia University Professor advised Portugal to leave the

Blue Whale Research Paper
A) The organism I chose was the blue whale. The blue whale (scientific name: Balaenoptera

weigh around 150 170 metric tons (150,000 kg) together with a length of about 27m (89 feet). The
largest blue whale ever measured was 190 metric tons (190,000 kg), and the longest whale recorded
was 33.6 m (110 feet). It is the biggest animal ever discovered (so far). The head only cover 1/4th
(25%) of their entire body length. Color: Blue whales are blue gray in color with white patches

Length and Weight: The average length of a blue whale is 75 80 feet (23 24 meters) and these long
marine mammals can weigh up to 200,000 pounds (90,000 kg). Whales in the southern hemisphere are
generally larger than those in the northern hemisphere. One whale captured in the southern
hemisphere measured 110 feet (33 meters) in length. Females are usually larger than males of the
same age. Fins: A small triangular shaped dorsal fin is located on the blue whale s back. This fin
measures only one foot in height. The shape and size of the dorsal fin can be very different for each
whale. The whale s flippers are short and the tail is broad and triangular in shape. During the summer
feeding period, a blue whale eats about 40 million krill each day, amounting to about 3,600 kg (7,900

Louis Riel s Treatment Of The Insane Essay
I am born 1835 and am a physician and a superintendent from the Toronto Lunatic Asylum. I have had
10 years of the treatment of the insane. When I had encountered Riel, he imagined that he would go to
Saskatchewan and he would gather such a big force so that he would become the monarch of
Saskatchewan. I think that no sane man would think of such things. He had travelled between Ottawa
and The United States as well as knowing the powers of Britain. For him to think that he would be
able to train a successful army out of untrained Saskatchewan people as well as believing that he
would divide the country into seven divisions would not be normal with a man with this
understanding. He also is a Roman Catholic and among them, he went among endeavoring to
conciliate them to get them educated on the schemes that he had and says that he wants to dispose the
pope.
I also have a source of several other thing of Riel s youth. Bishop Tache has shown me letters from

excess of piety and held religious views which I found unreasonable. My wife noticed it too and said
he became very melancholy . After that, I was told that Louis Riel had still remained solitary even
after a long time after his father had died. Riel had hallucinations as well as telling people that he

Summary Of The Poisonwood Bible
Barbara Kingsolver s, The Poisonwood Bible, is a story about the lives of the Price Family women
and how a year of missionary work while living in the Congo forever changed their lives. A very
important aspect of the plot in The Poisonwood Bible is that the husband of the Price family, Nathan,
is the entire reason for the story. His unyielding desire to become a missionary and carry out what he
believed to be God s work is what led to the families living in the Congo and destroying the bonds the
Prices had with each other. Throughout the story Nathan Price is presented as an arrogant southern
Baptist preacher with a twisted sense of his place in the world. Having no regard for women as
anything but housewives with little intelligence, he is depicted as an abusive husband and father.
Nathan Price is described as being a changed man from his younger days. Fighting in WWII had
changed him for life. In Contrast to this there is Brother Fowles, a foil to Nathan Price, who is a
missionary that lived in Kilanga before the Price family came. He married an African woman and had
stayed behind after warned to leave the Congo. His interpretations of the Bible and world perspective
are more loosely guided than Nathan Prices. Brother Fowles is overall more liked than Nathan Price
throughout the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nathan Price believes that it is his duty to move his family to the Congo and complete God s plan for
him as a missionary to help the people find salvation. This idea doesn t seem entirely out of place after
we see Brother Fowles illustrate his cultural and moral interpretations of Bible scripture. However it is
not seen until the end of the book, Nathan Price s need to please God does not lie with the people of
the Congo, but for himself. The more Nathan Price tries to relay his own way to God, the father
detached he becomes from the Congolese people and his

A Sunny Afternoon Of A California Bank
It s a sunny afternoon in a California bank. The air is crisp and clean, the birds are bright and cheery,
and the weather is all but perfect. Suddenly, a man bursts through the front doors, gun in hand. He
orders everyone to drop to the ground and forces the bank manager to open up the safe. In that
situation, everyone would know what to do. But what if the man had walked through the doors in a

computers (Street, Ruin )? Would you recognize it as a crime? In 2011, this is exactly how one major

Both the government and the private sector have been aware of the threat social engineering poses to
information security since the 1980s, but it has only gained public notoriety within the last decade.
Still, while today s corporations may be prepared for a raid by anonymous cyber terrorists striking
from overseas, they continue to turn a blind eye to the dangers of socially engineered attacks. Thanks
to a combination of corporate oversight and poor employee training, hackers with zero coding
knowledge are able to penetrate their secured buildings and wreak havoc. In order to combat this
vulnerability, the Department of Homeland Security should take an active role in the operational
security of major American businesses through extensive auditing and employee training.
Of course, this problem did not emerge overnight. Low tech attack techniques have existed long
before the invention of the computer. Dumpster diving is one of the oldest methods of information
gathering, a vital step for any attack. Today, most firms simply toss their paper out in the trash without
shredding. These documents can contain confidential information such as passwords or financial data.
Even papers headlined with Do Not Disseminate or Confidential get tossed in the trash with
everything else. Johnny Long, a penetration tester, jokingly proposed that those documents

Disruptive Behavior Classroom
Disruptive behavior in the classroom
Over the years at work I have noticed that disruptive behavior of students is a big challenge and a
frequent problem that teachers have to address in their classrooms. For those who are involved in
education know that teachers on a daily basis have a high amount of demands like improve test
results, successfully teach to students with diverse needs, and raise ability to serve all students, often
with minimum resources and support. Consequences of several national Gallup polls evidently
document that both the general public and teachers be in agreement that a major dilemma for public
schools is lack of students discipline in classrooms (Elam, Rose, Gallup, 1996; Rose Gallup, 2003,

Patrick Henry Speech Analysis
Introduction
When Patrick Henry gave his famous Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death speech he proved that pens
are indeed mightier than swords. That speech undoubtedly lead to the formation of the great nation
that we now live in today.
Patrick Henry was better at persuading his audience because he used a convincing combination
rhetorical questions and imagery. Patrick Henry s use of logical and emotional appeals to make his
audience believe in his cause. His purpose for speaking and his ambitious ideas also helped make his
speech stronger. Jonathan Edwards speech was good, but the fear that he instilled in his audience
crippled them instead of pushing them to action, like Henry s speech did.
Appeals
Emotional Appeals
Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? (Henry)
Henry is asking his audience if they would rather live a peaceful life of slavery or a life of freedom on
their own terms. This rhetorical question is impactful because Henry s audience is afraid of slavery,
they don t like the idea of being controlled by anyone. They know what the lives of their own slaves
are like and they fear being put in that position. This makes the audience want to heed Henry s advice
and go to war against Great Britain.
Logical Appeals
Mr. President, it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope (Henry)
Henry is telling his audience that there is nothing wrong with looking on the bright side, but they need
to open their eyes

Are The Negative Impacts Climbers Have On Mount Everest...
Are the negative impacts climbers have on Mt. Everest worth it, for just a few pictures? Many people
feel as if the amount of waste left on Mt. Everest is not worth the climbers who make it to the top for
bragging rights. Although people think they can climb it to promote a cause or to prove something, it
would be better if they left Mt. Everest alone. This challenge of climbing Mt. Everest often is done to
prove a point, raise awareness for a cause, or to capture a photo. However, all the trash and waste they
leave behind is beginning to add up, which is starting to ruin this historical landmark.
With all of the pollution being caused by the hikers, some have become increasingly worried about
what they have contributed to. Sir Edmund Hillary and his partner Tenzing Norgay became the first
known people to reach the top of Mt. Everest, however Hillary has become increasingly worried about
the health state of this mountain. For example the text states, Hillary was also deeply concerned about
the environment. He helped establish reforestation programs in Nepal. (The World s Highest Mountain

concerned about what is happening. He most likely feels as if he has contributed to this problem and is
trying to make up for it. We also know he has tried to do something by starting reforestation programs
around Mt. Everest to fix what the climbers have destroyed. In addition to this the text

Corporate Social Responsibility Of Islamic Banks
This research adopts a comprehensive and fastidious literature review that covers an array of primary,
secondary, and tertiary sources.
RESULTS
The Islamic banking industry has come a long way in issues of corporate governance. However,
Islamic banks need to be at the forefront of pioneering innovative, impactful, and far reaching social
responsibility and corporate governance practices since for starters, they are faith based institutions.
Islamic banks need to stop resting on their laurels and stop playing catch up in these domains.
Moreover, Islamic banks need to deal conclusively with the array of challenges facing their Shari ah
corporate governance endeavors so as to meet their objectives in a more effective manner.
DISCUSSION
Corporate Social Responsibility of Islamic Banks
Aspects of Corporate Social Responsibility of Islamic Banks:
All the activities of Muslims and Islamic entities are supposed to follow the objectives of Shari ah
known as Maqasid al Shari ah. According to the prominent Muslim sage, scholar, philosopher, and
prolific teacher of the days of ere known as Al Ghazali, The objective of the Shari ah is to promote the
well being of all mankind, which lies in safeguarding their faith (din), their human self (nafs), their

Computer Technology and the Effects on Society

technology has had a great effect on society as a whole throughout history. It has modified our
behavior greatly as we have become accustomed to the technological advancements of yesterday. We
are so dependent sometimes we do not even have a concept of what life would be like without
computers. When we are forced to live life without computers we are left hopeless and disillusioned

This again was due to the cost of the technology. Even though these advancements helped the
computing industry move forward they also helped the job market, as well as keeping accurate records
of information. Companies now needed a full time staff to run the computers as well as programmers
to program them. The introduction of magnetic storage also helped many scientists organize their data,
to make better and more concise evaluations, allowing them to make discoveries that they never
previously thought possible. This began the rapid advancement towards computers as we know them
today. During the 1970 s and 1980 s no one could have imagined how fast the computing industry
would begin evolving. This is when the computer started developing into the personal computer we
know today. The large computers that filled an entire room became smaller and smaller. That is when
personal computers began showing up in homes everywhere. As time passed storage medium
improvements were made. At first the personal computer used a disk to boot up. This was called a
floppy disk. It was first develop in the 5 1/4 form that could hold 360KB of information. This was
later expanded and storage went from 360KB to 1228.8KB or 1.2 MB of information. Striving for
more powerful and compact storage the 3 1/2 disk slowly but surely replaced the 5 1/4 disks. The
formats did overlap for some time as the 720KB 3 1/2 disk competed with the 5 1/4 360KB disk and

The Characteristics Of Intellectual Disabilities
Definition: The term intellectual disability has gone through a series of modification along the years.
For instance, at first mental retardation was the terminology intellectual disability was referred to as
(Gargiulo Bouck, 2017, p. 162).Nonetheless, Intellectual disability is defined by Gargiulo and Bouck
as a disability characterized by significant limitations in both in intellectual functioning and in
adaptive behavior as expressed in conceptual, social and practical adaptive skills (Gargiulo Bouck,
2017, p. 165).In other words intellectual disability is not only primarily focusing on cognitive
impairment but also in a child s behavior.
Characteristics: To start with, intellectual disability is not specific enough to narrow down specific
characteristics that members of this group share. Meaning that not every single person placed under
intellectual disability will share similar characteristics (Gargiulo Bouck, 2017, p. 181). Impaired
cognitive functioning is the most prevalent characteristic displayed by students affected with this
disability (Gargiulo Bouck, 2017, p. 181). Cognitive functions include: individual s ability to learn,
acquire concepts, process information, and apply knowledge in various setting such as school
(Gargiulo Bouck, 2017, p. 181). Furthermore, attention is another feature students with intellectual
disability experience the individual struggles to focus their attention and often become distracted

King Arthur Chivalry Code
In modern day society, the world has very strict cultural rules. In some places in the Pacific Ocean, it
is considered rude to wear shoes inside of the house, and in the southern nation of the US it is
considered rude to refer to an adult without the phrase, ma am or sir. Issues of what is respectable or
accepted have always existed since the first civilized culture. However, there is one form of
respectable manners that have followed the people throughout the growth of the world. This form is
the code of chivalry, first recognized in the Arthurian time of the knights. The knights had to follow
this code just how modern day people would follow the law. The code is created by the moral
conceptions of courage, honor, loyalty, and manners. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All three of these texts involve battles and brave choices made by the heroic characters who each go
on a journey, have an encounter with the gods, either in a positive way or in a negative way. Then they
always end up fighting in a battle of some sort, physical or mental, and prove themselves worthy to be
the leader of the land. However, the entire chivalric code was not fully existing by this point of
culture, there might have been the idea of strength and honor being incredibly vital for a man s rank in
social status, but the key point is man. There was no and absolutely any wiggle room for women to be
recognized as equal human beings at all. The beginning of the Iliad even includes the unchivalric acts
of the behavior towards women. Achilles and King Agamemnon were arguing the right of having the
young lady as their prize, but of course the lady never did get any sort of say in it. The Odyssey also
displayed this kind of behavior towards females, Odysseus was very unfaithful in his relationship,
while his wife was not, but he was still questioning her loyalty and even threatened death if she was
caught in a fib. Yet, The Aeneid had a different approach to the origination to the chivalric code of
treatment of women, there was no unpleasant treatment of women, yet the female characters were still

John Keats s Poem Analysis
Underlying Methods of Communication in Keats To Autumn In To Autumn, a poem by John Keats,
we see a multi leveled examination of mortality concealed within a seemingly simple ode to the fall
season. The poem opens with an overwhelming appeal to the senses. Anyone familiar with the
common motifs of Autumn will identify heavily with the first stanza, for Autumn is a time of ripening
pumpkins and relaxed musings. The second stanza has a tone reminiscent of the feeling that
accompanies the end of a hard day s work. However, as the second part of this poem ends, the reader
feels a dull pang of some unidentified negative emotion. This emotion is similar to the guilt of relaxed,
yet hardworking men who are too proud to be lazy, even for a moment. The ending stanza of the poem
arrives and passes like the end of Autumn, swiftly (Keats 763 764). The speaker in the poem seems to
be scrambling to appreciate the wonders of Autumn before the swift, bitter end. The progression of
ideas, imagery, and tone are highly reminiscent to the thoughts of a man who, at the end of his life, is
trying to find meaning and beauty in his life as he approaches his swift, bitter end. The poignancy of
this poem is found in the distinct levels by which Keats communicates emotions. In the progression of
Keats To Autumn, there are three basic levels of understanding: the outright evolution of ideas seen in
the initial reading, the contradictory tone changes, and the subtle paradoxes found

Police Citizen Violence Research Paper
Avoiding Violence between Police and Citizens
On a daily basis, we read stories of officers who do wrong. For examples, theft, use of force,
misappropriation use of public office, abuse of authority, and even simple things like speeding, are all
unethical behavior on the part of those that the public has trusted to serve and protect them. On the
other hand, it must be noted that the huge majority of police officers are good, hard working and
dedicated people who strive to serve the public and do the right thing at every turn.
According to Roufa (2016), every officer knows or at least should be aware by now, that they live in a
fishbowl. Friends, relatives, neighbors, and strangers watch every move a law enforcement officers
make, both on and off duty. The fact is that the public analyzes police officers more than most other
professions, either because they are suspicious or hope to catch them screwing up or because they are
hopeful and looking for a good example and a strong leader. In either case, it is up to the officer to be
above reproach in both his public and private life. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, police citizen violence and related concerns are prime topics of conversation wherever law
enforcement professionals gather to discuss problems. However, many police departments have made
reviewing their use of force a top priority. The magnitudes of this issue are also reflected in research
and analyses devoted to it by criminal justice researchers and scholarly journals. Also, even a casual
reading of the Nation s newspapers often yields accounts of confrontations between police and
citizens over the use of deadly force in situations where racial and ethnic tensions create additional
complications or difficulties. Also, television news programs provide full supporting videos,
graphically portraying the resulting tensions in a

Stereotypes In The Film Aladdin
The movie Aladdin s main characters were barely redeemable at the end; they emitted an abundance
of negative implicit messages. Aladdin deceived everyone without much backlash and fell in love
based on looks. While Jasmine, the strong female character, trusted and forgave too easily, used her
sexuality to escape a predicament, and was dependent on being saved. Even the background characters
were quite horrible, but because they were written from Middle Eastern/Arabic stereotypes; the guards
were cruel and the movie even featured a brothel. The movie clearly had way more negative messages
than positive ones.
Jasmine was obviously an independent girl who rejected the societal way of thinking and demanded
that she control her life. But, Jasmine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Pros And Cons Of North Stradbroke Island
North Stradbroke Island (NSI), also known as Minjerribah to its indigenous people, the Quandamooka

range of ecosystems including open beaches, frontal dunes, rocky headlands, mangroves, and tidal
swamps (Stradbrokeisland.com, 2018). On the island, the sand mining company, Sibelco, are to close
their operation on NSI in 1919. This decision has been made through the exploration of advantages
and disadvantages of undertaking sand mining on NSI, as well as alternative sources of economic
income and planning replacement employment. When making the decision to close Sibelco s sand
mining on the island, it was important to remain mindful to the natives of the island and their ideals,

The American population is getting older which presents us with many challenges but also present us

There s A Certain Slant Of Light
Emily Dickinson s poem There s a certain Slant of Light is a powerful reflection on the pain of
depression and other internal struggles. As a recluse, Dickinson most likely was familiar with these
feelings and conveys them in a way we can all relate to. Although cryptic at first, this poem
communicates many universal emotions as well as an insight into Dickinson s state of mind.
Stanza one opens with Dickinson referring to a certain Slant of light, Winter Afternoon . This light is
described in the rest of the work, although it is not the main idea. Dickinson capitalizes Slant and
Winter Afternoon to the characterize the setting. The Slant of the light refers to the time of day,
morning or evening, and Winter Afternoons describes the season

Lucid Dreaming Control
Dreaming is something that is experienced by everyone every single night. There is no living person
in this planet that never experienced dreaming, it s a very common thing that is even talked about
during the waking life. It s a matter of being able to remember it when you wake up or not. Then, there
is a method invented to explore the dreaming world called lucid dreaming.
Lucid dreaming is the sensation of being able to realize that you are dreaming in a dream. Some have
the ability to control their dream, while others may take some time to be able to control it. But it is
completely possible to achieve lucid dreaming and make it as an experience that you will never forget.

Hitler Became Chancellor in January 1933 Because He Was...
Hitler s assumption of power on the 30th of January 1933 was seemingly due to the mass popularity of
the Nazi party. However it was far off achieving the 50% majority it needed to put Hitler
automatically in power. As well as popularity, backstairs intrigue and the short sightedness of those in
power enabled Hitler to become Chancellor. The weaknesses of Germany s political leadership were
fundamental to Hitler s success. In some senses the popularity of the party only provided an opening,
available for exploitation.
Undoubtedly, Nazi popularity placed pressure on government and on President Hindenburg to make
Hitler Chancellor. Their astonishing rise in votes since 810 000 in 1928 to 13.75 million in July 1932
was extraordinary. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meeting with Kurt Von Schröder, Papen not only in turn helped solve the Nazi financial debts to
ensure the continuation of the party, but presented an opportunity to Hitler which he otherwise would
not have been offered. Papen convinced Hindenburg the Nazi support could be harnessed and that its
ambitions and extremist policies contained through safety features. The President agreed to only meet
with Hitler when the Vice Chancellor, Von Papen, was present. Only two cabinet ministers were
included. By offering this, Von Papen made perhaps the most fatal underestimation of the 20th
century. He had had the responsibility of being decisive, thorough and unfaltering when Hindenburg
could not be and so his weak acceptance of Hitler s demands when he was perhaps not even in a
position to demand is surely a cause of Hitler s appointment.
Debatably, this arrangement was a production of Hitler s own political skill as opposed to, or as well
as, Papen s great failure. Hitler s opportunism, vehement desire for power and ability to manipulate
people was crucial for his success. Meeting with Von Papen in December 1932, he resolutely
demanded the Chancellorship. Whereas Strasser faltered in making botched agreements with Von
Schleicher for a lesser position, Hitler held out against odds. Additionally Hitler s chameleon nature
meant that he was successfully demanding with Von Papen, yet very respectful

Relay Services for the Deaf Essay
Relay Services for the Deaf
In America, there are more than 28 million deaf people but there are many different services available
to meet their needs. A hearing person can have a casual conversation without even realizing the
difficulties that 202,613 (5.58%) hard of hearing people might face in the world (Stat. on Deafness). It
doesn t have to be so difficult for a deaf/hard of hearing person to have a conversation even if the
person they are talking to is in another state. With popular services such as Maryland Relay, the TTY
and various telecommunications relay services it is now possible for deaf people to have a phone
conversation.

two way texting. The relay operators dials the number for the TTY user, then the relay operator types
what the standard phone user says to the TTY user and the relay operator says what the TTY typed.
This relay service has had a significant impact on the communication all over the world.
Different states have non profit organizations that hire operators to relay TTY conversations to people
with standard phones. In the state of Maryland, the primary service available is called Maryland
Relay. It is a public service that provides operators for the TTY phone. Not only is this service helpful
but it is free to anyone that have some sort of disability, assistance income or insurance. There is no
limit to the amount of calls or amount of time the person can be using the phone. Another bonus of
Maryland Relay is that relay operators have to keep phone calls confidential. For example, if a
personal family matter is presented over the teletypewriter, the receiver is not permitted to discuss the
phone call with anyone else. Maryland Relay does not just except phone calls from a standard phone,
it also handles collect calls, calling cards and any participating long distance company (How does it

  • 2. How To Create Emotions In The Exorcist Jessica Rodriguez Professor Powell ENG1100 July 26, 2015 Creating Feelings We all agree movies allow us to escape and take us to places we ve never been and inside the skin of people quite different from ourselves. They not only offer people a window onto the wider world, but opens eyes to feelings and emotion. Audiences feel what the director wants the audience to feel. The definition of feeling is an emotional state or reaction (feeling). This is, the motivation and empowerment for anyone attempting to create a movie. Movies inspire all types of feelings like happy when watching a comedy, scared while viewing a horror, or awe while enduring a romance. Ghastly demons appear some barely visible in fleeting subliminal cuts, others in ghoulish tableaus. The powerful imagery featured in the climactic sequence of The Exorcist seems familiar and iconic now. Made in 1973, well before special effects and computer animation, The Exorcist stands as a testament to imaginative filmmaking, this classic The scene Friedkin describes below depicts the ultimate struggle of faith as two Jesuit priests played by a young Jason Miller and a wizened Max von Sydow confront ancient demons, which have possessed the body of an innocent 12 year old girl (Linda Blair). The exorcism section took nearly a month to shoot and was filmed entirely in sequence, recalls Friedkin, who says he was only able to complete about five shots a day due to the complexity and cold temperature required. Most of it was shot with one camera, and all the sound was recorded separately because of the unusual voices and audio gimmicks. By employing innovative mechanical effects, life sized puppets, editing tricks, creative lighting and other techniques, Friedkin and his team created a scene that remains unique in the history of horror films. I ll be honest with you, says the director, proud of the film magic he achieved without the help of computers or other digital equipment. • 3. Persuasive Essay On Secondhand Smoke Introduction The federal government should pass a nationwide smoking ban from all indoor facilities. There are many controversial statements out there, but indoor smoking should not be one of them. There are many lives being affected by people smoking in public facilities. As this puts others at risk for severe health problems. Main Point #1 Many may ask what secondhand smoke is. Or many may ask is it harmful? Some may think, just because I don t actually smoke cigarettes then it can t be dangerous. This is where people need to be informed on just exactly what secondhand smoke is. According to the CDC website Secondhand smoke comes from tobacco smoke such as cigarettes, and there are over 4,000 chemicals in them while over 250 are the ones that they actually know that can cause deadly diseases. The CDC website also states how many deaths are caused form secondhand exposure in the U.S every year, and that is around 34,000. No one could even imagine anything worse than this. A terrible horror. Between the transports, ghettos, concentration camps, and the crematoriums, 6 million Jews in Europe, all ages, were slain, burned, beaten, and starved to death. In the novel Night by Elie Wiesel, readers experience his use of symbolism and it is important in helping the reader understand the horrors the Jews experienced during the Holocaust. The first and most critical example of symbolism is the title itself. Calling the novel Night makes it apparent that the Holocaust was a dark experience, full of terror, death, and lots of suffering. Fire and corpses also make their way into that same category. Altogether, these symbols make it clear to the reader that the Holocaust was full of sorrow, death, suffering, and despair. During the night, Elie experiences despair and sorrow. The evening is a time for the prisoners to feel the sensation of relief that is often overshadowed by uncertainty. The night ... Between the period 2011 and 2104, it is estimated that more than 485.000 workers emigrated, the highest number in more than five decades, being most of them young and highly qualified, such as doctors, nurses, and scientists. These negative impacts on the Portuguese growth led to a growing political and popular hostility to austerity. Many believed that all of the austerity measures only led to unemployment, job insecurity, and consequently poverty. Under those circumstances, the future of the European project became under scrutiny and many began to question if Portugal should leave the euro and the European Union. • 8. Louis Riel s Treatment Of The Insane Essay I am born 1835 and am a physician and a superintendent from the Toronto Lunatic Asylum. I have had 10 years of the treatment of the insane. When I had encountered Riel, he imagined that he would go to Saskatchewan and he would gather such a big force so that he would become the monarch of Saskatchewan. I think that no sane man would think of such things. He had travelled between Ottawa and The United States as well as knowing the powers of Britain. For him to think that he would be able to train a successful army out of untrained Saskatchewan people as well as believing that he would divide the country into seven divisions would not be normal with a man with this understanding. He also is a Roman Catholic and among them, he went among endeavoring to conciliate them to get them educated on the schemes that he had and says that he wants to dispose the pope. • 9. Summary Of The Poisonwood Bible Barbara Kingsolver s, The Poisonwood Bible, is a story about the lives of the Price Family women and how a year of missionary work while living in the Congo forever changed their lives. A very important aspect of the plot in The Poisonwood Bible is that the husband of the Price family, Nathan, is the entire reason for the story. His unyielding desire to become a missionary and carry out what he believed to be God s work is what led to the families living in the Congo and destroying the bonds the Prices had with each other. Throughout the story Nathan Price is presented as an arrogant southern Baptist preacher with a twisted sense of his place in the world. Having no regard for women as anything but housewives with little intelligence, he is depicted as an abusive husband and father. Nathan Price is described as being a changed man from his younger days. Fighting in WWII had changed him for life. In Contrast to this there is Brother Fowles, a foil to Nathan Price, who is a missionary that lived in Kilanga before the Price family came. He married an African woman and had stayed behind after warned to leave the Congo. His interpretations of the Bible and world perspective are more loosely guided than Nathan Prices. Brother Fowles is overall more liked than Nathan Price throughout the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both the government and the private sector have been aware of the threat social engineering poses to information security since the 1980s, but it has only gained public notoriety within the last decade. Still, while today s corporations may be prepared for a raid by anonymous cyber terrorists striking from overseas, they continue to turn a blind eye to the dangers of socially engineered attacks. Thanks to a combination of corporate oversight and poor employee training, hackers with zero coding knowledge are able to penetrate their secured buildings and wreak havoc. In order to combat this vulnerability, the Department of Homeland Security should take an active role in the operational security of major American businesses through extensive auditing and employee training. Of course, this problem did not emerge overnight. Low tech attack techniques have existed long before the invention of the computer. • 12. Patrick Henry Speech Analysis Introduction When Patrick Henry gave his famous Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death speech he proved that pens are indeed mightier than swords. That speech undoubtedly lead to the formation of the great nation that we now live in today. Patrick Henry was better at persuading his audience because he used a convincing combination rhetorical questions and imagery. Patrick Henry s use of logical and emotional appeals to make his audience believe in his cause. His purpose for speaking and his ambitious ideas also helped make his speech stronger. Jonathan Edwards speech was good, but the fear that he instilled in his audience crippled them instead of pushing them to action, like Henry s speech did. Appeals Emotional Appeals Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? (Henry) Henry is asking his audience if they would rather live a peaceful life of slavery or a life of freedom on their own terms. This rhetorical question is impactful because Henry s audience is afraid of slavery, they don t like the idea of being controlled by anyone. They know what the lives of their own slaves are like and they fear being put in that position. This makes the audience want to heed Henry s advice and go to war against Great Britain. Logical Appeals Mr. President, it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope (Henry) Henry is telling his audience that there is nothing wrong with looking on the bright side, but they need to open their eyes ... Many people feel as if the amount of waste left on Mt. Everest is not worth the climbers who make it to the top for bragging rights. Although people think they can climb it to promote a cause or to prove something, it would be better if they left Mt. Everest alone. This challenge of climbing Mt. Everest often is done to prove a point, raise awareness for a cause, or to capture a photo. However, all the trash and waste they leave behind is beginning to add up, which is starting to ruin this historical landmark. With all of the pollution being caused by the hikers, some have become increasingly worried about what they have contributed to. Sir Edmund Hillary and his partner Tenzing Norgay became the first known people to reach the top of Mt. Everest, however Hillary has become increasingly worried about the health state of this mountain. For example the text states, Hillary was also deeply concerned about the environment. He helped establish reforestation programs in Nepal. (The World s Highest Mountain 7). This shows us that Hillary is aware of what is happening on and around Mt. Everest and is concerned about what is happening. He most likely feels as if he has contributed to this problem and is trying to make up for it. We also know he has tried to do something by starting reforestation programs around Mt. Everest to fix what the climbers have destroyed. In addition to this the text ... • 20. King Arthur Chivalry Code In modern day society, the world has very strict cultural rules. In some places in the Pacific Ocean, it is considered rude to wear shoes inside of the house, and in the southern nation of the US it is considered rude to refer to an adult without the phrase, ma am or sir. Issues of what is respectable or accepted have always existed since the first civilized culture. However, there is one form of respectable manners that have followed the people throughout the growth of the world. This form is the code of chivalry, first recognized in the Arthurian time of the knights. The knights had to follow this code just how modern day people would follow the law. However, the entire chivalric code was not fully existing by this point of culture, there might have been the idea of strength and honor being incredibly vital for a man s rank in social status, but the key point is man. There was no and absolutely any wiggle room for women to be recognized as equal human beings at all. The beginning of the Iliad even includes the unchivalric acts of the behavior towards women. Achilles and King Agamemnon were arguing the right of having the young lady as their prize, but of course the lady never did get any sort of say in it. The Odyssey also displayed this kind of behavior towards females, Odysseus was very unfaithful in his relationship, while his wife was not, but he was still questioning her loyalty and even threatened death if she was caught in a fib. • 21. John Keats s Poem Analysis Underlying Methods of Communication in Keats To Autumn In To Autumn, a poem by John Keats, we see a multi leveled examination of mortality concealed within a seemingly simple ode to the fall season. The poem opens with an overwhelming appeal to the senses. Anyone familiar with the common motifs of Autumn will identify heavily with the first stanza, for Autumn is a time of ripening pumpkins and relaxed musings. The second stanza has a tone reminiscent of the feeling that accompanies the end of a hard day s work. However, as the second part of this poem ends, the reader feels a dull pang of some unidentified negative emotion. This emotion is similar to the guilt of relaxed, yet hardworking men who are too proud to be lazy, even for a moment. The ending stanza of the poem arrives and passes like the end of Autumn, swiftly (Keats 763 764). The speaker in the poem seems to be scrambling to appreciate the wonders of Autumn before the swift, bitter end. The progression of ideas, imagery, and tone are highly reminiscent to the thoughts of a man who, at the end of his life, is trying to find meaning and beauty in his life as he approaches his swift, bitter end. The poignancy of this poem is found in the distinct levels by which Keats communicates emotions. In the progression of Keats To Autumn, there are three basic levels of understanding: the outright evolution of ideas seen in the initial reading, the contradictory tone changes, and the subtle paradoxes found ...
