Star Wars Prequels And Return Of The Jedi
While it is universally agreed that the Star Wars prequels were a terrible idea, the question of in which
sequence to watch the six movie series in order to incur the smallest amount of disappointment is still
a debated topic. This was the question that my Chamber Orchestra sub group attempted to answer
while our teacher tried to convince us that it was best to watch the first two originals, then the
prequels, and finally Return of the Jedi, an order known as the machete order. Mr. Schwaegler
presented his logic for the machete order of Star Wars as twofold: first, that the prequels functioned as
a flashback to how Luke s father became Darth Vader following the revelation of the fact, and second,
that it was best to finish strong with Return

Natural Disaster In Bangladesh
1. Introduction
The number of natural disaster is increasing over the years and its impact to the economy and
environment has increased remarkably. Flood disaster is a major threat to the environment and is
responsible for the economic loss worldwide. Flood frequency, magnitude, extent and cost is
accelerating quickly all over the world (Adjei darko, 2017). A single major flood event can affect
several countries simultaneously and can pressure on risk reduction and transfer (Jongman et al.,
2014). According to the outcome of Aqueduct Global Flood Risk Analyzer launched by the US based
World Resource Institute (WRI), flooding affects 21 million people annually and it could rise to 54
million by 2030 and the GDP loss is 96 billion $ in each year and it could be 521 billion $ by 2030
(Dutch water sector, 2005). Different sectors of Bangladesh also suffer a huge amount of loss due to
regular flood inundation that impacts on countries budget through the disruption of economic activity
(Hussain Shan, 2010; Jüssi, 2015). In Bangladesh, about 3.5 million people are annually affected by
the flood and it can rise to 9.8 million per year by 2030. Annual GDP loss is 5.5 billion $ and by 2030
it can rise 45.8 billion $ (WRI, 2017). Economic disruption may rise more than 1 trillion $ annually
and flood frequency may be double because of adverse climate and socio economic development by
2050 (Jongman et al., 2014). More than 8 million people affected by flood in 2017 which caused death

Everything Everything By Nicola Yoon
Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon relates to my own life. I can relate to this book in various
ways. First, the characters. The main character Madeline and I are very much alike. We both enjoy
reading books. Just like her, When she reads a book she uses it as a life lesson to live her life to the
fullest. Also, Madeline s personality is a carefree, outgoing and curious type of personality. When I
read this book I could see myself through her. Another way I can relate to Everything Everything is
how independent Madeline is. She has a type of sickness where she stays in her house and she cannot
leave or she will get sick and possibly die. Throughout the book it shows how strong a girl or anyone
can be by themselves. Lastly the most important

Coral Snake Species Analysis
Today s seminar was presented by Dr. Christian Cox of Georgia Southern university. He presented the
topic of The evolutionary drivers of diversity for coral snake mimicry. The heart of his work consists
of understanding the evolution of phenotypic and genetic diversity. He has tested many questions and
hypotheses: genetic diversity, color polymorphism, coral snake mimicry, mimicry and color
polymorphism in ground snakes, what evolutionary forces drive the spatial and temporal pattern of
color polymorphism, do morph frequencies shift with age, does selection on color polymorphism vary
across space, evolutionary dyanamics of phenotypic diversity and etc. In his experiemnts, the
independent variable is the mimetic snake species, while the dependent variable is the ... Show more

In studying phenotypic and genetic diversity Dr. Cox uses the approach of integrative biology. He uses
this approach to focus on the development of phenotypic diversity and to understand evolutionary
questions. From using the approach you could discover many things about the organism: sequence of
DNA gene expansion, where its found, physiology, morphology, its relationship with other
evolutionary organisms, and etc. Dr. cox stated that when he uses the integrative approach, he
observes different concentrations , such as evolution of function, genetic diversity, and the evolution
of color polymorphism.
From all of the tested questions and hypotheses, Dr. Cox obtained many results and findings. One of
them being that coral snakes mimics are polymorphic. In his research he found that the phylogenetic
analysis of ground snakes in north America that had a red, black, yellow/red and black color had an
early origin of the group, as well as polymorphism. In the same research, he included population
genetic work and found that there isn t a simple relationship between color pattern in any genetic

Ethical Difficulty Between Diversity And Extrinsic Values
Inherently, there exists an ethical difficulty in appraising an intrinsic value, for these values are often
abstract and intangible. Typical extrinsic appraisals often look at condition or rarity to determine a
value, however, intrinsic values can be priceless. Although some intrinsic values such as happiness or
love are qualitative, the value of diversity is purely quantitative. It is fundamental to understand how
the value of diversity clearly increases positively, where greater diversity is always equated with a
greater intrinsic value.
When applied to ecosystems, the level of species diversity is most frequently measured as an indicator
of the ecosystem value. For example, a desert may only contain tens of species, yet a sub tropical

Arthur Ashe s Views On Civil Rights
When Ashe was born, Monument Avenue in Richmond was lined solely with statues of confederate
leaders like Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee; now a bronze statue of Arthur Ashe, holding a book
and a tennis racquet in his hands, surrounded by children, stands on that same street. His legacy lives
on in the naming of the main court at the US Open, the Arthur Ashe Learning Center, and the Arthur
Ashe Courage Award given annually at the ESPYS. Fittingly, the award recognizes athletes and non
athletes for their accomplishments on and off the field. Past recipients of the award include Jim
Valvano, Pat Tillman, Nelson Mandela, and Tommie Smith. These are just a few of the ways, that

Richmond was a segregated city, and Ashe lived in a poor, black neighborhood. Jim Crow laws were
in full force in the South in the 1940 s, restricting African Americans to inferior amenities; and Ashe
grew up swimming in colored pools. Social mobility was very limited, and lynchings still occurred.
Moreover, African Americans weren t even guaranteed some of America s most fundamental rights,
including the right to vote. The Virginia constitution banned blacks from voting from 1902 to 1965
and they had little political power. There were no black city councilmen between 1896 and 1948.

The Drug Crisis Of Colombia
It is astounding how a group of traffickers in Colombia have been able to keep a drug trade business
going despite the government rejections. The traffickers started off with importing marijuana into the
United States, and later turned to cocaine. The amounts of drugs being traded also grew rapidly.
...shipments grew from individuals carrying small amounts of large quantities on boats and low flying
airplanes (Gilmore). The growth of drug trade in Colombia created two cartels, one that was led by
Medellin and one led in Cali. Soon enough, the drug industry became so powerful that it influenced
the country politically through threats, political contributions, and bribery. This power created conflict
throughout the country creating violence which resulted in hundreds of deaths. It had resulted in
complete chaos since the country was overpowered by illegal drugs. Despite Colombia s strong
republic government today, the drug trade problems have been escalating for the past 20 years
resulting in the U.S involvement. Colombia has been known to be the perfect place for contraband and
illegal drug activities, the vast mountain ranges made it impossible for any government to control its
trade. Colombia gives licit and illicit business access to four major neighbors to the south, and two
oceans and Central America to the north (Colombia). With these resources, Colombia has smuggled
many things to other countries including drugs, arms, liquor, cigarettes, and many other things. It

Walt Disney s Impact On American Society
Walt Disney once said, You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world.
But it takes people to make the dream a reality. What Disney is trying to say is that you can dream
anything you want to be or do, but it takes someone to make his/her dream a reality (Brainy Quotes).
What Disney is trying to say is that you can dream anything you want to be or do, but it takes hard
work to make it a reality. Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois to his father
Elias Disney and mother, Flora Disney. Disney was one of five children, four boys and, one girl. After
Disney s birth, the Disney family moved to Missouri. Disney lived most of his childhood there.

To start with, Disney turned his TV series into a theme park. Disney s TV series was so popular that it
ran for 29 seasons and because it was so popular Disneyland opened. Disneyland was a huge success.
Disneyland the series became a theme park because it was so popular and millions of people loved the
characters. People wanted to go see the characters and interact with them. So Disney created a place
where it was possible for people to do that (Beattie). This suggests that viewers wanted to spend time
with the characters they watched at home. Disney had a great idea to turn his shows into an
amusement park, which attracted a lot of people. At the same time, Disney used his T.V. show to
advertise his amusement park. By 1954, Disney had recognized the growing popularity of television
and produced a series called Disneyland, which he initially used to promote his new Disneyland theme
park in California (Lackmann). This maintains that Disney was a smart and bright person who knew
how to be successful. Additionally, Disney wanted to create a homelike atmosphere at his park.
Disneyland put a new spin on amusement parks when its gates opened in Anaheim, California, on July
17, 1955. Before deciding whether to enter Disney s Adventureland, Frontierland, Tomorrowland, or
Fantasyland, all visitors to Disneyland passed through Main Street, which attempted to recapture the

The film of Hector and the Search for Happiness has a captivating plot which makes us want to watch
it until the end. Since in his research Hector goes to three places and each place has their own moral
value, this film is suitable for your soul. One of the places that Hector visits is China. In the movie,
China is described as a wonderful country, which has unique culture. The second place is Africa, with
glorious savannah and wild animals. Next, in Los Angeles, Hector obtains some happiness meanings
and feels what happiness is. There are many good films. However, Hector and the Search for
Happiness stands out from other movies for its inspirational plotline and enthralling moral value. Even
though, this film has many positive sides, there is a blatant weakness of this film. There are some
adulterated scenes involving Hector and Ying Li. Hence, it is not proper for children. Another
weakness of this film is its violent scenes. Hector, at the beginning of this film, is not very capable in
handling his emotion. Therefore, he lashes out with swearing and throwing things around. Overall,
this film is one of a kind for

Technology And The Criminal Justice System
Within the last ten years, there have been significant advancements in technology which has in turn
changed and increased the type of crimes in today s society. With the new technology, the criminals
are ready to exploit it. So therefore, the future direction of crime fighting and its role in social policy
implication are geared toward the advancements of technology. For criminal justice system to
intervene, deter, or prevent crimes, they must be equipped with the latest technologies. Advancements
to technology within the criminal justice system have a significant effect on the courts, making

Based on Dauphin County First Assistant District Attorney Fran Chardo, We become a very electronic
oriented society. (Marc Goodman). With this increase usage of electronic, we see a new set of
criminals and crimes. With the cellular telephone, criminals use it, not only to communicate with one
another, but also to target people and as a triggering device. For example, if the criminals are
searching for someone they can text each other with the description of a person and then upon
verification proceed with an order, possible death. With this same cellular telephone technology, law
enforcement can use someone s cellular telephone to track their movements or identify their location
to help with investigations. The new set of crimes is cybercrimes. A cybercrime is any crime that
involves the use of computer or the manipulation of digital data. Zackary J. Miller, section Chief of
the FBI s Cyber Criminal Division stated, I think there is a growing cybercrime problem that we are

The Importance Of Writing And Writing
One of the most important priority for a law student is managing their time. Is a challenge, however,
spending time writing and reading is productive. As a law student we must know that we must
conducted ourselves in a professional matter. Having a great academies support team that will guide
me to move forward is something to take advantage of starting from day one. As a law student we
must know that when writing, analyzing comes after. We need to know the subject, the verbs, and the
objects. Legal writing is completely different than what we are used to, but not impossible to
accomplish. By reading a case we need to set our minds to think like a lawyer. The skills we learned in
law school are key tools for success. One of the best formulas to analyzed a case is the elements +
because + fact(s).
One of the first exam strategy that a law student must learned the IRAC. IRAC stands for Issue, Rule,
Application, and Conclusion. This is important because it gives you the key term factors to analyze a
case. For IRAC, the issue can be stating the issue and explain what it is. The Rule will be the
elements, which comes from the issue. The Application is the argument the plaintiff will have. Finally,
the conclusion can be the overall case. IRAC is effective because lawyers still use this formula. The
formula shows to be successful for exams, such as the state bar exam.
Grammar is important when writing an analyzation of a case. The student must be clear and correct

Temperature Of Water Investigation
The purpose of the experiment was to investigate the effect of the temperature of the water on the
reaction of the tablet. There was a difference between the tablet in the cold water and the tablet in
warm water. The tablet in cold water took 32.17 seconds to completely dissolve, and it took the tablet
in warm water 26.67 seconds to completely dissolve. The hypothesis is that if one puts a tablet in cold
water and one in warm water, then the water in cold water will take a longer time to dissolve and the
tablet in the warm water will dissolve faster was supported. I got this result because the added energy
in the hot water causes water molecules to move faster which make the tablet dissolve faster, and the
tablet in colder water took a longer time because the cold water is condensed. This experiment relied
on the temperature of the water how cold and how hot the water is. Perhaps this experiment could be

The Robots Rebellion By Keith E. Stanovich
Consciousness a term explained as being aware of all surroundings, emerging from the functions of
the brain. When a person gets used to something they may be able to think of other things at the same
time, until a change happens, then they regain their consciousness to what they were doing. This essay
is to further explore the target which is the slides from lecture 17 consciousness using the slides
Meanings and automatization by using examples from the book The Robots Rebellion by Keith E.
Stanovich, which is the base to further explain and expand on these points. Consciousness can be
linked to multiple things, such as how we do things, why we do things and anything that is related to
being aware or awake. When a person is conscious of their behaviour, actions and abilities, they are
then capable of accomplishing anything without any difficulties. When genes are produced and
replicated the human body is then aware of what to do, causing the brain to become stronger. In the
book it mentions how we are aware of the idea that we are the vehicles and our genes are the
replicators. Genes are seen as the most powerful but as the brain becomes more highly developed it
takes over more policy decisions, using learning and simulation to overrule. Therefore showing that
when a human is conscious of the power of genes they are able to take over that task. Being aware of

Examples of Genetically Engineered Foods
Example 1: Genetically engineering fish to have fluorescent glows
One of the most disturbing scientific findings of recent years was the extent of the influence upon the
endocrine system of various common chemicals, industrial products, and common pharmaceuticals
such as birth control pills. To track the presence of endocrine disruptors within the bodies of fish,
which have been shown to be particularly vulnerable to the changes caused by such products in the
environment, scientists genetically engineered zebra fish embryos to glow in places where an
endocrine disrupting chemical is present over the course of the fish s development and thus show
where it may be harming the body (Handwerk 2012). The genetic engineering using proteins found in
glowing jellyfish naturally in the wild is specifically designed to not interfere with the fish s natural
systems, yet still provides a way of tracking how the chemicals act in the body using a fluorescent
microscope.
Example 2: Genetically engineering chloroplasts
Genetically engineering the chloroplasts of plants is considered to be one of the more effective forms
of producing hardier plants through the use of genetic modification. It allows for a high level of
transgene expression, or genes that are transmitted from generation to generation. According to
Daniell (et al 2005), chloroplast alteration permits multi gene engineering in a single transformation
event and transgene containment by maternal inheritance, as well as a

ending the Cold War, or in other peacefully ending the Cold War with foreign relationships. When
Gorbachev came into power, unlike other leaders before him, he proclaimed a new way of thinking
based on glasnost (openness) and perestroika (restricting). This meant greater political freedoms and
less Soviet interception in the press and society as a whole. It also meant changes in the economy such

The Effects Of Antibiotic Resistance On Infectious Diseases
Introduction
Using antibiotics to treat infectious diseases as a result of bacteria has added 20 years to our lifespan,
but the rapid emergence of antibiotic resistance is hindering their effectiveness. Cutting edge
antibiotics are required, but they have not been developed in the last 25 years (WHO, 2016). One class
of antibiotics are beta lactams, which are sub divided into four different groups of antimicrobial
agents, as shown in Figure 1.
Carbapenems such as imipenem and meropenem are unique because they have a remarkably broad
spectrum of activities due to being resistant against hydrolysis by most beta lactamases, which are
enzymes that hydrolyse the beta lactam ring in some antibiotics (O Toole, 2013). This gives
carbapenems greater success against gram positive and gram negative bacteria. The key difference
between these two types of microorganisms is that gram negative bacteria have a double membrane
making them more resistant to antibiotics (Kaplan, 2000). For the reasons explained, carbapenems are
treated as last line agents or antibiotics of last resort when the health of patients with infections
deteriorates or they are hosting resistant bacteria (Papp Wallace, et al, 2011).
Gram negative bacteria such as carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) are worthy of being
called killer bacteria due to the mortality rate of those infected being as high as 50%. Overuse of
carbapenems endangers their vital role in rendering bacteria harmless. Some strains of

5 Important Events in U.S. History
There have been many important events in our history that have happened and are going to happen. I
believe that these five are the most important starting with number one as being the signing of the
Declaration of Independence. This document declared that the American colonists would be
independent from Great Britain and separate from them. From the French and Indian War to the
Revolutionary War, the British treated the colonists badly. They would tax them on everything, not
allow them to be represented in the British government, known as Parliament, and many other things.
The Declaration of Independence, which was written mostly by Thomas Jefferson, changed all this.
The colonists were able to completely separate from Great Britain and be independent on their own.
Without this document, we Americans would still be controlled by Great Britain, and still be British
citizens. The next important event is when Martin Luther King Jr. gave his I Have a Dream speech
during the March on Washington. The speech was made to end racism in the United States, and so that
blacks and whites can be equal and live among each other. Before this, black people were treated like
slaves and more like animals than people, and the whites seemed to have all of the power. King
wanted his children to go to school where they wouldn`t be judged by the color of their skin, but by
the content of their character . Martin Luther King`s speech did come true, and today, blacks and
whites are able to live

A Summary Of The Faerie Queene And Beowulf
After reading the assigned short stories I decided to use the first book of the Faerie Queene and
Beowulf. These stories have numerous uses of imagery, Throughout Beowulf there are creatures and
battles that are so epic they literally pop off the page because of the way ( the author s) described
them. In the first book of the Faerie Queene (the author) there are also a wide variety of different
monsters and battles and stunning characters, but they also connect with history.
I decided to choose Imagery because both of these stories are full of different creatures and scenes that
need imagery to be told in its full glory. Beowulf is action packed and has descriptive battles and the
Faerie Queene has many historical references that involve imagery.
In the Faerie Queene Spenser uses imagery with what was happening politically or religiously at the
time. There are many examples throughout the story that suggests this. At the time Spenser wrote the
Faerie Queene it was during the English reformation when England dropped Catholicism and turned
to Protestantism as the country s new religion. Since this was going on at the time Spenser used
imagery to connect with events and to show that their new religion could prevail over the Catholic s
criticism.
In the first book Spenser talks about the noble knight Redcrosse, and describes him as a symbol to
look up to. An example Spenser wrote But on his brest a bloudie Crosse he bore, The deare
remembrance of his dying Lord, For whose sweete sake that glorious badge he wore, And dead as
living ever him adored (1.i.2.1 4). Here it almost seems like Spenser is using imagery to describe the
knight Redcrosse as a Christ figure. Further into the story Spenser talks about a mythical creature
called Errour and begins to paint a vivid image of the serpent. Halfe like a serpent horribly displaide,
But th other halfe did womans shape retaine, Most lothsom, filthie, foule, and full of vile disdaine.
when reading this you see a disgusting creature, and Spenser chose the right words. The word disdaine
means a description that describes monsters both mythical and in the bible and it really shows how
horrifying this monster must have been. After painting the image of the horrible

Goblin Market Feminist
Throughout Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti, feminism plays a factor because Lizzie acts as a
Christ figure and the goblin men try to control the women using their fruits. In the poem Goblin
Market, Lizzie essentially acts like Christ. She helps her sister after Laura takes the fruit from the
goblins even after Lizzie told her to not even look at them. Lizzie goes to the goblins to try to figure
out a way to help her sister. She wants to do whatever she can which Christ did while he was on earth.
When he died on the cross, he forgave everyone of their sins. Lizzie goes to forgive Laura of her sins
by going to ask the goblin men how to cure Laura. Held her hands and squeezed their fruits/ Against

The goblin men are trying to control the two girls by using their fruits and singing. The customary
cry,/ Come buy, come buy (231 232). Rossetti shows how the goblin men are drawing in the women
and essentially controlling them. This exhibits what feminism is against because they believe women
should be independent. Feminism is present in many ways throughout the poem. It is shown again
when Rossetti says, Maids heard the goblin cry (2). Rossetti suggests that women have challenges and
obstacles that men aren t familiar with. Men usually disregard feminism in today s world because they
don t think feminism is a real movement, but Rossetti says that men have no idea what women go
through and how hard it can be sometimes. The goblin men have fruits that they try to lure women in
with how luscious and elegant they look. The fruits represent societal issues on drugs. The goblin men
are people who have already succumbed to the pressures of drugs. Laura and Lizzie represent people
who are fighting to stay on the clean side. Once Laura goes and buys their fruit she has converted over
to the drug side. Lizzie goes to and goblin men to figure out how to cure her sister. Rossetti says, hug
me, kiss me, suck my juices (468). Lizzie does everything she can to help her sister and Rossetti
empathizes how women need to stick together through thick and

institutional and cultural transformation from traditional societies to modern ones. It was developed by
the founders of sociology and has dominated the widespread understanding and explanations of many
social differentiation processes including rationalization, individualization, urbanization, and
secularization for several decades. Thus, sociologists believed that the consequences of modernization
were unavoidable route and common destinations and patters for modern or all ... Show more content

They suggest that we should re systematize and correct the classical theory of modernization in the
light of multiple modernities frameworks because multiple modernities do not assume that global
modernity is derived from the West as a single pattern (source) and describe the possibility of a plural
modernity experiences. In fact, there are many modernities, not only one single patter of
modernization. These developments forced sociologists for a paradigm shift in the dominant one side
understanding of western modernity.
In this context, Islam and the discourse of western Muslim intellectuals have gradually gained
visibility and significance through the continuing migration and the growth of new generations in the
western societies. Western Islam also has emerged in the hearth of modernity; yet did not follow the
same patters of classical modernization trends. However, it could not escape the hegemonic influence
of modernity. As a result, western Islam is emerging not only as a response to the challenges
(premises) of modernity, but also through a transformative dialectical engagement with the ethos of
modernity, which gradually pave the path towards the rise of Islamic modernism (Islamic modernity)
in the west. Hence, the multiple modernities thesis serves as a more adequate theoretical approach
than the prevailing modernization, the secularization perspective or many other approaches to

Attachment, Antisocial, And Antisocial Behavior
Attachment and Antisocial Behavior in Adolescents Secure early infant attachments are imperative to
a person s life because it assists in the development of empathy and emotional self regulation. A
healthy development of empathy and emotional self regulation promotes prosocial behavior. Prosocial
behavior is the deliberate action of helping and/or benefiting another person, group, or society in
general without any thought of being rewarded. Securing an early infant attachment can develop an
automatic response of prosocial behavior which can be applied throughout an individual s life as he or
she responds to immediate situations that may occur throughout a lifetime. Anti social behavior is
developed when a person lacks the ability to help someone because he or she fails to identify with the
feelings or difficulties of someone else (Steele, Bate, Nikitiades, Buhl Nielsen, 2015). Adolescents
that display anti social behavior are more likely to develop poor peer competence, have lower
academic performance, become involved in adulthood criminality and are at a higher risk of
developing adult mental health problems. Anti social behavior in adolescents is expressed by the
inability to respect the rights of others which leads to the violation of societal social norms. Some
behavior, such as being disobedience or defiant, can be considered as normal behavior in adolescents,
however it can also be a strong predictor of adjustment difficulties adolescents may face in their

Moderation Lab
Introduction
The problem with moderation is that only people in the films have perfect white teeth and people keep
paying millions with mouth or teeth surgeries to receive that irresistible smile. Unknowing of what
might give you that impeccable million dollar smile is frequently thought to be something surgery
could only do up, however this feat can be accomplished by brushing your teeth after every meal also
using mouthwash before and after you wake up. This experiment was created in order to test the truth
of what would happen if you where to eat or drink staining foods that could cause problems for your

Colombia And The Colombian Armed Conflict
Introduction
Colombia is facing an internal armed conflict for more than six decades. The causes for the
Colombian armed conflict can be more than one which include the conflict over land ownership, the
existence of marked economic differences, the pursuit of civilians because of their political
orientation. It also highlights the persistence of guerrillas with communist orientation and the
existence of drug traffickers that have involved their corruption to all levels of the Colombian sociaty.
The narco guerrillas and drug traffickers have given the idea to make a lot of money easy and fast. So
culturally in Colombia many people believe in this concept for that reason there is a lot of corruption
in Colombia, people porsuit this idea. The corruption in Colombia is much seen in the misuse or abuse
of public power for private or personal gains, meaning that this phenomenon is not limited to civil
servants, it is also defined as the set of attitudes and activities through which a person violates
commitments made himself, using the privileges granted, those agreements made with the aim of
obtaining a extra benefits. Usually there are bandits looking for weak people, who are easy to

Compare And Contrast Proctor And Jeremiad
The jeremiad is that God will reward good behavior or he will punish those who do not fear or
conform to his wrath. Puritans believe in the jeremiad. Puritans were a protestant religion that had a
simple and religious life. They believed that hard work was the key to getting into heaven and they
were scared of hell. They had many restrictions and rules so that they would not disobey God and
would be able to get into heaven. Puritans believed that God could be cruel and angry with them if
they ever did anything bad, so they feared him. In Of Plymouth Plantation and from Sinners in the
Hands of an Angry God, the two writers are very similar in their use of jeremiad.
There was a proud and very profane young man, one of the seamen...he would always be contemning
the poor people in their sickness and cursing them daily with grievous execrations; and did not let to
tell them that he hoped to cast half of them overboard before they came to their journey s end, and to

In my opinion, jeremiad is comparable to karma. Karma is the belief that whatever you do will come
back around to you. For example, if one does a good deed, they will receive something good in return.
Or if one does something bad, they will receive something bad in return. An example of jeremiad in
my life (or karma), occurred when I was working. One day a woman came in with her children and
she could not afford to buy her children popcorn. The children really wanted some and you could tell
how terrible the mother felt that she could not give her children any. I then offered to buy the popcorn
for them, and she graciously accepted. The next day, I was out to eat with my family and someone
anonymously payed for our entire meal. This is an example of jeremiad because I did something good,
or nice, and in return I was rewarded with a nice

Rhetorical The article published in the New York Times July 22, 2012 by Jack Healy entitled Suspect

ammunition. Jack Healy is a rocky mountain correspondent for the New York Times, and has reported
on the war in Iraq from Baghdad. Healy s article elicits good emotional engagement with the reader,

The logos of the article is fundamentally flawed due to the lack of logically sound and accurate
conclusions. Finally the article loses its ethical integrity when the authors bias becomes apparent to
the reader. Healy s article contains bias for the regulation of ammunition sales, as well as confusing
terminology. The article contains contradictory and inaccurate facts, and quotes selected for emotional
impact rather than relevance and purpose. First I will address some of the logical contradictions in the
article. Healy said Unhindered by federal background checks or government oversight, the 24 year old
man... was able to build ... a 6,000 round arsenal legally and easily over the Internet, exploiting what
critics call a virtual absence of any laws regulating ammunition sales In this quote Healy leads the
reader to believe that there are no laws, and no regulation regarding ammunition sales. Later in the
article Healy admits there are laws restricting ammunition sales in Illinois, Massachusetts, and New
Jersey as well as cities like Los Angeles and Sacramento. Healy contradicts his earlier point by
highlighting the states that do have laws regarding the sales of ammunition. This contradiction leaves
the reader not knowing which conclusion is valid. The second flaw in the

Being and Humans in Heidegger s Letter on Humanism and in his Contributions to Philosophy
ABSTRACT: Heidegger s main question, the question of Being concerning human facticity, struggles
to uncover the original ground to which humans belong, a ground from which modern society tends to
uproot itself through the dominance of calculative and representational thinking. What is most
dangerous for Heidegger about this process is that the original ground of humans and beings in
general might be covered and forgotten to the extent that humans lose completely the sense of what
they truly need. The task of philosophy is to help bring back humans and beings in general to the place

Heidegger s question of Being, is a question which concerns human facticity, i.e. our actual being in
the world in its temporal and enigmatic character. As he stated in the 30s, for him this question arose
out of the experience of the forgetfulness of Being [Seinsvergessenheit] and of the abandonment of
Being in beings [Seinsverlassenheit des Seienden], that is, out of the possibility of not being at all.
With the question of Being, Heidegger struggled to uncover the original historical ground to which
humans belong, a ground from which modern society tends to uproot itself through the dominance of
calculative and representational thinking. What is most dangerous for Heidegger in this process, is that
the original ground of humans and beings in general might be covered and forgotten, to the extent that
humans loose completely the sense of what they truly need. For Heidegger, the task of thinking (of
philosophy) is to help to bring back humans and beings in general to the place to which they originally
belong, i.e. to their originally, most fulfilled way of being which is their proper or own [das Eigene,
eigen].
En own ment or Ap propri ation [Er eign is] is the key word in Heidegger s thinking since the 30s, in
which he attempts to think more originally than metaphysics the relation between Being and

Economic System And Economic Systems
For this essay I will be focusing in on the three different economic system, which are known as
centrally planned economy, mixed economy, and market economy. I will also be explaining why
internationalizing firms should be aware of the differences between all three economic systems and
what roles should the government be taking in the free market systems. Before I begin defining the
different economic systems I would like to first explain what an economic system is. Every country
differs in what economic system is being used. An economic system is a system of producing goods
and the exchange of goods and services. An economic systems also includes a process which is used
to allocate its assets. Culture can have a big impact because of a country s economy. Just as a country
s economy state differs from country to country so does its culture. Why does it have an effect on a
country s culture we ask? The difference between having an individualist or a collectivist culture is
where we see it. In an individualist culture we see more people being rewarded then we see in a
collectivist culture. Being rewarded with things such as low tax rates which inspires them to continue
with their activities of their culture.
As mentioned in Chapter 7 no nation is either considered to be fully individualist or fully collectivist.
National economies are arranged on a scale in which we see the three different economic systems. The
scale is setup in a way in which centrally planned economy is

Ang Lee s Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Essay
Ang Lee s Crouching tiger Hidden Dragon is probably one of the most successful foreign films to ever
be screened in America. Being the number one film of the year in 2000. On the other hand it was
reportedly considered a flop in China. While it was influenced by American film styles, it still kept
true to many aspects of its Chinese film heritage. With very apparent love story, it lacked the Extreme
amount of Kung Fu fight scenes eastern audiences have come to enjoy. This is a stunning love story
between a monk and widow. While it does have its share of over the top fight scenes, when you start
to dig deeper the films many social implications become apparent. With ties to subjects such as
religion, martial arts, philosophy, love, and even gender issues. This film is a representation of the
modern era and how long practiced traditions are being challenged. Each character and plot line
allows a glimpse into the Social and Traditional understanding of a culture.
Each character in the film represents some type of Social structure in China. Focusing on Li Mubai,
Yu Shu Lien, and Jen Yu, you are able to get a sense of the social and ethical ideals of each class.
Begging with Li Mubai, who embodies the stereotypical monk . He is always proper and resilient to
negative influences. He spends the greater part of his life studying Kung Fu, and is the master of the
Wu Dong clan. He is arguably the strongest character in this movie. He is the embodiment of restraint.

Wearing A Seat Belt Is Worth It
Now people may tell themselves that they know they should wear a seatbelt, but is it really worth it?
The answer is yes, it is worth it. Your life is worth it, and putting yourself at risk makes you a careless
person. In 2012, 7,500 teens and young adults between the ages of 16 24 were killed in a car crash.
60% were not wearing a seatbelt out of 34,080. Every 16 minutes, someone dies in an accident and
about 89 people lose their lives each day. Wearing a seatbelt slows your body down and decreases how
far your body goes before it stops and wearing a seatbelt prevents you from flying out of the car and
decreases the chance of damaging your body. People think that since they are only going a short
distance, they don t need a seatbelt because it s not like they re going to get into an accident for the
three blocks they re traveling to. They re wrong about that. Studies show that 50% of fatal accidents
happen near their home or workplace. As a car is going 55 MPH and it hits a solid object, the rest of
the car is still going 55 MPH even when a car frame has stopped. While the rear end is going 35 MPH,
your body is still traveling at 55 MPH. Seatbelts saved around 13,941 lives in 2015 and it could ve
saved 2,814 more people if they were wearing a seatbelt. In this world, people take seatbelts for
granted. It s the one thing that can save your life in a car crash and it is also the one thing that people

Applying the Concept of Bipower to China s One Child Policy
Michel Foucault was a French philosopher and one of the most influential social theorists of the
second half of the twentieth century. He was born on the 15th of October 1936 and passed away on the
25th June 1984. His theories addressed the relationship between power and knowledge, and how they
are used as a form of social control. His analysis breaks the concept of power apart, and his theory
explains differences in various modes of power. In his study the History of Sexuality, he explores in
the firth volume called Right of Death and Power over Life the triangle of power: (I) sovereign power;
(II) disciplinary power; and (III) biopower. In this essay I will describe the relationship between each
power and apply the concept of biopower to China s one child Policy.
First what is Biopower? Well according to Foucault, biopower is a technology of power, which is a
way of managing and controlling entire populations. Biopower led to the emergence of the modern
nation state and capitalism. Foucault describes it as an explosion of numerous and diverse techniques
for achieving the subjugations of bodies and the control of populations (Foucault 140). The primary
and most important goal of biopower is life. The government goal is to secure and improve people s
lives. Power is exercised exclusively over life, and is exercised either to foster life or to disallow it.
Biopower according to Foucault is a power that exerts a positive influence on life, that endeavours to

Lord Of The Flies As A Psychological Allegory
Some speculate that the people who commit extremely appalling acts as adults were raised to commit
these ghastly crimes, while others believe that everyone is born with an evil already inside of them. In
William Golding s psychological fiction Lord of the Flies, the idea of being born innately evil is
recurrently alluded to. The novel is about a group of young British boys who crash land on a remote
island. They are left with no laws to tell them what they can or cannot do, and are extremely
frightened of a so called Beast that they expect lives on the island. In the Lord of the Flies, The Beast
symbolizes the evil and devilish proclivity inside of all humans. Through the use of The Beast ,
William Golding illustrates how the novel is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Society and laws, however, have been put in place to keep this Beast hidden. Instead of being the
sweet little British boys that the children were expected to be in the beginning of the novel, the Beast
inside of these kids has shown not only their recklessness, but also their pure evil that has been kept
sequestered.
Not only is The Beast implanted in the children s heads, but it is also something that they can never
truly get rid of. Golding introduces this idea during a conversation between Simon and The Lord of
the Flies: Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill! said the head (Golding
143). By claiming that The Beast is not something that the children can hunt and kill, Golding portrays
his belief that the evil inside of all human beings cannot be exterminated. By portraying this belief,
Golding once again relates to the concept of The Beast being the id. Being that the id is a part of a
human s subconscious mind, it would be impossible to completely get rid of it. However, throughout
the text, Golding alludes to the fact that man s evil is covered up by the rules and laws of society. This,
in turn, causes the id to be covered up. One would never walk amongst others acting completely on
emotion. This would progenerate a completely rampageous environment. Golding is suggesting that
society s rules eliminate any chance of this sort of environment. However, by stripping away society s
rules on the island, Golding is

First the management must choose a period of time for which the budget will be used; the most

that year to only Arnold Palmer. But only 2 years later, Jack defeated Arnold in the US Open, and that
started one of the greatest rivalries of all time. (Poulter) One of the biggest differences I know between

the cook and their love of their job). As the second generation of Italian Immigrants, my grandparents
were both born in Italy and immigrated to the United States in the 1900 s, so we are quite biased when
it comes to authentic Italian pizza. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As I frequent the restaurant I have seen first hand that the management would need an over haul if

example is the way their subs are made. At one location, onions and tomatoes are put on the Italian
sub at another location, these items are not a usual topping, so you must ask for them. There are some
difference that would need to more uniform. I understand franchises have their own personal touches
to products however the product should have more universal likeness as it is the same

Star Wars Prequels And Return Of The Jedi While it is universally agreed that the Star Wars prequels were a terrible idea, the question of in which sequence to watch the six movie series in order to incur the smallest amount of disappointment is still a debated topic. This was the question that my Chamber Orchestra sub group attempted to answer while our teacher tried to convince us that it was best to watch the first two originals, then the prequels, and finally Return of the Jedi, an order known as the machete order. Mr. Schwaegler presented his logic for the machete order of Star Wars as twofold: first, that the prequels functioned as a flashback to how Luke s father became Darth Vader following the revelation of the fact, and second, that it was best to finish strong with Return ... • 3. Natural Disaster In Bangladesh 1. Introduction The number of natural disaster is increasing over the years and its impact to the economy and environment has increased remarkably. Flood disaster is a major threat to the environment and is responsible for the economic loss worldwide. Flood frequency, magnitude, extent and cost is accelerating quickly all over the world (Adjei darko, 2017). A single major flood event can affect several countries simultaneously and can pressure on risk reduction and transfer (Jongman et al., 2014). According to the outcome of Aqueduct Global Flood Risk Analyzer launched by the US based World Resource Institute (WRI), flooding affects 21 million people annually and it could rise to 54 million by 2030 and the GDP loss is 96 billion $ in each year and it could be 521 billion $ by 2030 (Dutch water sector, 2005). Different sectors of Bangladesh also suffer a huge amount of loss due to regular flood inundation that impacts on countries budget through the disruption of economic activity (Hussain Shan, 2010; Jüssi, 2015). In Bangladesh, about 3.5 million people are annually affected by the flood and it can rise to 9.8 million per year by 2030. Annual GDP loss is 5.5 billion $ and by 2030 it can rise 45.8 billion $ (WRI, 2017). Economic disruption may rise more than 1 trillion $ annually and flood frequency may be double because of adverse climate and socio economic development by 2050 (Jongman et al., 2014). Typical extrinsic appraisals often look at condition or rarity to determine a value, however, intrinsic values can be priceless. Although some intrinsic values such as happiness or love are qualitative, the value of diversity is purely quantitative. It is fundamental to understand how the value of diversity clearly increases positively, where greater diversity is always equated with a greater intrinsic value. When applied to ecosystems, the level of species diversity is most frequently measured as an indicator of the ecosystem value. The hypothesis is that if one puts a tablet in cold water and one in warm water, then the water in cold water will take a longer time to dissolve and the tablet in the warm water will dissolve faster was supported. This essay is to further explore the target which is the slides from lecture 17 consciousness using the slides Meanings and automatization by using examples from the book The Robots Rebellion by Keith E. Stanovich, which is the base to further explain and expand on these points. Consciousness can be linked to multiple things, such as how we do things, why we do things and anything that is related to being aware or awake. When a person is conscious of their behaviour, actions and abilities, they are then capable of accomplishing anything without any difficulties. When genes are produced and replicated the human body is then aware of what to do, causing the brain to become stronger. In the book it mentions how we are aware of the idea that we are the vehicles and our genes are the replicators. Genes are seen as the most powerful but as the brain becomes more highly developed it takes over more policy decisions, using learning and simulation to overrule. Therefore showing that when a human is conscious of the power of genes they are able to take over that task. Examples of Genetically Engineered Foods Example 1: Genetically engineering fish to have fluorescent glows One of the most disturbing scientific findings of recent years was the extent of the influence upon the endocrine system of various common chemicals, industrial products, and common pharmaceuticals such as birth control pills. To track the presence of endocrine disruptors within the bodies of fish, which have been shown to be particularly vulnerable to the changes caused by such products in the environment, scientists genetically engineered zebra fish embryos to glow in places where an endocrine disrupting chemical is present over the course of the fish s development and thus show where it may be harming the body (Handwerk 2012). The genetic engineering using proteins found in glowing jellyfish naturally in the wild is specifically designed to not interfere with the fish s natural systems, yet still provides a way of tracking how the chemicals act in the body using a fluorescent microscope. • 18. The Effects Of Antibiotic Resistance On Infectious Diseases Introduction Using antibiotics to treat infectious diseases as a result of bacteria has added 20 years to our lifespan, but the rapid emergence of antibiotic resistance is hindering their effectiveness. Cutting edge antibiotics are required, but they have not been developed in the last 25 years (WHO, 2016). One class of antibiotics are beta lactams, which are sub divided into four different groups of antimicrobial agents, as shown in Figure 1. Carbapenems such as imipenem and meropenem are unique because they have a remarkably broad spectrum of activities due to being resistant against hydrolysis by most beta lactamases, which are enzymes that hydrolyse the beta lactam ring in some antibiotics (O Toole, 2013). This gives carbapenems greater success against gram positive and gram negative bacteria. The key difference between these two types of microorganisms is that gram negative bacteria have a double membrane making them more resistant to antibiotics (Kaplan, 2000). For the reasons explained, carbapenems are treated as last line agents or antibiotics of last resort when the health of patients with infections deteriorates or they are hosting resistant bacteria (Papp Wallace, et al, 2011). Gram negative bacteria such as carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) are worthy of being called killer bacteria due to the mortality rate of those infected being as high as 50%. Overuse of carbapenems endangers their vital role in rendering bacteria harmless. Some strains of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. 5 Important Events in U.S. History There have been many important events in our history that have happened and are going to happen. I believe that these five are the most important starting with number one as being the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This document declared that the American colonists would be independent from Great Britain and separate from them. From the French and Indian War to the Revolutionary War, the British treated the colonists badly. They would tax them on everything, not allow them to be represented in the British government, known as Parliament, and many other things. The Declaration of Independence, which was written mostly by Thomas Jefferson, changed all this. The colonists were able to completely separate from Great Britain and be independent on their own. Without this document, we Americans would still be controlled by Great Britain, and still be British citizens. The next important event is when Martin Luther King Jr. gave his I Have a Dream speech during the March on Washington. The speech was made to end racism in the United States, and so that blacks and whites can be equal and live among each other. Before this, black people were treated like slaves and more like animals than people, and the whites seemed to have all of the power. • 20. A Summary Of The Faerie Queene And Beowulf After reading the assigned short stories I decided to use the first book of the Faerie Queene and Beowulf. These stories have numerous uses of imagery, Throughout Beowulf there are creatures and battles that are so epic they literally pop off the page because of the way ( the author s) described them. In the first book of the Faerie Queene (the author) there are also a wide variety of different monsters and battles and stunning characters, but they also connect with history. I decided to choose Imagery because both of these stories are full of different creatures and scenes that need imagery to be told in its full glory. Beowulf is action packed and has descriptive battles and the Faerie Queene has many historical references that involve imagery. In the Faerie Queene Spenser uses imagery with what was happening politically or religiously at the time. There are many examples throughout the story that suggests this. At the time Spenser wrote the Faerie Queene it was during the English reformation when England dropped Catholicism and turned to Protestantism as the country s new religion. Since this was going on at the time Spenser used imagery to connect with events and to show that their new religion could prevail over the Catholic s criticism. In the first book Spenser talks about the noble knight Redcrosse, and describes him as a symbol to look up to. An example Spenser wrote But on his brest a bloudie Crosse he bore, The deare remembrance of his dying Lord, For whose sweete sake that glorious badge he wore, And dead as living ever him adored (1.i.2.1 4). Here it almost seems like Spenser is using imagery to describe the knight Redcrosse as a Christ figure. Further into the story Spenser talks about a mythical creature called Errour and begins to paint a vivid image of the serpent. Halfe like a serpent horribly displaide, But th other halfe did womans shape retaine, Most lothsom, filthie, foule, and full of vile disdaine. when reading this you see a disgusting creature, and Spenser chose the right words. In fact, there are many modernities, not only one single patter of modernization. These developments forced sociologists for a paradigm shift in the dominant one side understanding of western modernity. • 23. Attachment, Antisocial, And Antisocial Behavior Attachment and Antisocial Behavior in Adolescents Secure early infant attachments are imperative to a person s life because it assists in the development of empathy and emotional self regulation. A healthy development of empathy and emotional self regulation promotes prosocial behavior. Prosocial behavior is the deliberate action of helping and/or benefiting another person, group, or society in general without any thought of being rewarded. Securing an early infant attachment can develop an automatic response of prosocial behavior which can be applied throughout an individual s life as he or she responds to immediate situations that may occur throughout a lifetime. Anti social behavior is developed when a person lacks the ability to help someone because he or she fails to identify with the feelings or difficulties of someone else (Steele, Bate, Nikitiades, Buhl Nielsen, 2015). Adolescents that display anti social behavior are more likely to develop poor peer competence, have lower academic performance, become involved in adulthood criminality and are at a higher risk of developing adult mental health problems. Anti social behavior in adolescents is expressed by the inability to respect the rights of others which leads to the violation of societal social norms. Puritans were a protestant religion that had a simple and religious life. They believed that hard work was the key to getting into heaven and they were scared of hell. They had many restrictions and rules so that they would not disobey God and would be able to get into heaven. Puritans believed that God could be cruel and angry with them if they ever did anything bad, so they feared him. In Of Plymouth Plantation and from Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, the two writers are very similar in their use of jeremiad. There was a proud and very profane young man, one of the seamen...he would always be contemning the poor people in their sickness and cursing them daily with grievous execrations; and did not let to tell them that he hoped to cast half of them overboard before they came to their journey s end, and to make merry with what they had; and if he were by any gently ... An example of jeremiad in my life (or karma), occurred when I was working. One day a woman came in with her children and she could not afford to buy her children popcorn. The children really wanted some and you could tell how terrible the mother felt that she could not give her children any. I then offered to buy the popcorn for them, and she graciously accepted. Being and Humans in Heidegger s Letter on Humanism and in his Contributions to Philosophy ABSTRACT: Heidegger s main question, the question of Being concerning human facticity, struggles to uncover the original ground to which humans belong, a ground from which modern society tends to uproot itself through the dominance of calculative and representational thinking. What is most dangerous for Heidegger about this process is that the original ground of humans and beings in general might be covered and forgotten to the extent that humans lose completely the sense of what they truly need. Heidegger s question of Being, is a question which concerns human facticity, i.e. our actual being in the world in its temporal and enigmatic character. As he stated in the 30s, for him this question arose out of the experience of the forgetfulness of Being [Seinsvergessenheit] and of the abandonment of Being in beings [Seinsverlassenheit des Seienden], that is, out of the possibility of not being at all. With the question of Being, Heidegger struggled to uncover the original historical ground to which humans belong, a ground from which modern society tends to uproot itself through the dominance of calculative and representational thinking. What is most dangerous for Heidegger in this process, is that the original ground of humans and beings in general might be covered and forgotten, to the extent that humans loose completely the sense of what they truly need. Economic System And Economic Systems For this essay I will be focusing in on the three different economic system, which are known as centrally planned economy, mixed economy, and market economy. I will also be explaining why internationalizing firms should be aware of the differences between all three economic systems and what roles should the government be taking in the free market systems. Before I begin defining the different economic systems I would like to first explain what an economic system is. Every country differs in what economic system is being used. An economic system is a system of producing goods and the exchange of goods and services. An economic systems also includes a process which is used to allocate its assets. Culture can have a big impact because of a country s economy. Just as a country s economy state differs from country to country so does its culture. Why does it have an effect on a country s culture we ask? The difference between having an individualist or a collectivist culture is where we see it. In an individualist culture we see more people being rewarded then we see in a collectivist culture. Being rewarded with things such as low tax rates which inspires them to continue with their activities of their culture. As mentioned in Chapter 7 no nation is either considered to be fully individualist or fully collectivist. He was born on the 15th of October 1936 and passed away on the 25th June 1984. His theories addressed the relationship between power and knowledge, and how they are used as a form of social control. His analysis breaks the concept of power apart, and his theory explains differences in various modes of power. In his study the History of Sexuality, he explores in the firth volume called Right of Death and Power over Life the triangle of power: (I) sovereign power; (II) disciplinary power; and (III) biopower. In this essay I will describe the relationship between each power and apply the concept of biopower to China s one child Policy. First what is Biopower? Well according to Foucault, biopower is a technology of power, which is a way of managing and controlling entire populations. Biopower led to the emergence of the modern nation state and capitalism. Foucault describes it as an explosion of numerous and diverse techniques for achieving the subjugations of bodies and the control of populations (Foucault 140). The primary and most important goal of biopower is life. The government goal is to secure and improve people s lives. Not only is The Beast implanted in the children s heads, but it is also something that they can never truly get rid of. Golding introduces this idea during a conversation between Simon and The Lord of the Flies: Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill! said the head (Golding 143). By claiming that The Beast is not something that the children can hunt and kill, Golding portrays his belief that the evil inside of all human beings cannot be exterminated. By portraying this belief, Golding once again relates to the concept of The Beast being the id. Being that the id is a part of a human s subconscious mind, it would be impossible to completely get rid of it. However, throughout the text, Golding alludes to the fact that man s evil is covered up by the rules and laws of society. This, in turn, causes the id to be covered up.
