1. Homework – 5 profiles – the questions. Leave out to be corrected.
Objectives:
1. Examine active citizenship in the community.
2. Start thinking about what actions the class could do to help
our community.

Responsibilities 3
Skills: Working with others.
Warm-up – Write heading and date onto an A4 page.
You’re going to be shown a five minute advert for Drogheda.
It shows how much effort people put into trying to bring businesses
and money to the town. None of it matters unless the community
and yourself help them though. Answer questions that follow.
2. 1. Write two things you see.
2. Write two things you didn’t know or found interesting.

3. Last class, we examined communities and the rights and
responsibilities people have.
Read page 9 and examine the pictures of how ‘Active Citizens ‘
help the community.
If we have time, let's read page 10 and examine the ‘Dodder
Action group’ in Dublin.
On page 11 is a group task where you examine pictures again
about issues that affect towns like Drogheda.
The cooldown will be homework; explaining and starting it.
Plan for today
4. Page 9 gives examples of what active citizens can do. Let’s read
and take the note first:
(Note) Active Citizen: Those who act responsible in their
community.
We will now read the five descriptions under the five pictures
on page 9. After each of our five volunteers read a green line, we
shall open a class discussion on what you all see in the image.
Note all the green writing (page 9) onto your page. I will divide
you into groups of five - six for the next task as you take the
notes.
We’ll read page 10 if we have time – 2 reader volunteers.
Reading page 9 and 10
5. Each of the six photos has a different issue that affects a
community (like Drogheda). In your groups you will:
Examine one picture (what do you see?) and answer the following:
1. What is the issue ( Racism, Traffic, Homelessness, Crime, Rubbish
or Child Safety)?
2. Name something you could recommend that would help.
3. Name something you yourself could physically do to help.
At the end, everyone must have three answers written down,
however you may elect one person to write down the answers first
to see how it looks and read it back to the group.

6. ALL Page 8 of your reflective journal
This asks a bunch of personal questions.
Do you watch the news? Do you recycles? Etc.
Answer them truthfully and complete the page (Q. 1 and 2)
Next week will be an ‘Artistic expression’ class. You shall create
posters which display what was in this chapter.
Feel free to bring in any supplies you like. (Colors, rulers,
pencils – basic supplies will be available).
