1. Warm-up
Pass your homework to the person on your left.
After 1 minute, take it back and pass it to the person on the
right. Then pass it up front to be collected. Can anyone raise
their hands and explain what human dignity is then.
Homework – What is Human Dignity? (Half A4 Page).
Make sure names, class and date written up top. (Green cards)

Objectives:
1. Examine examples of when human dignity is not respected.
2. Examine yourself to see if you would treat all people the
same, regardless of their history.

2. We’re going to read pages 16 – 18 which explains the
words ‘Discrimination’, ‘Prejudice’ and
‘Stereotyping’
We’re then going to do the ‘Lifeboat’ activity in our
reflective journals, in which in small groups you
will choose who lives and who dies.
Plan for today
3. 1. Page 16 – 5 readers – gives our first example of human
dignity not being respected – Discrimination.
(Note) Respected: Have due regard for / thinking about
someone else's feelings, wishes or rights.
(Note) Discrimination: Treating someone differently or
unfairly based on who they are.
After you are done the notes, take a look at the bottom of page
16 and top of page 17 at the pictures.

4. 1. Page 18 – 3 readers – gives two examples of Discrimination
– Prejudice and Stereotyping.
(Note) Prejudice: An unfair opinion formed without
thought or knowledge.
(Note) Stereotyping: Labelling a group of people as all the
same.
When you are done the notes, open your reflective journal on
page 10 and start reading the activity. Who dies? You decide!
