Similarities Of Socrates And Plato
Famous Ancient Greek philosophers: Socrates and Plato
The human mind has always been puzzled with basic questions such as: who am I? Where the
universe come from, and what is its purpose? How can I be happy? Greek philosophers who
were seekers and lovers of wisdom tried to approach these life s big questions sometimes in a
scientific way, other times in mystic ways, but always imaginatively. Among them, we remember:
Pythagoras of Samos, who was viewed as a charlatan because he believed in the doctrine of
reincarnation. Socrates: walking half naked in Athens streets, used to ask people provocative and
often unanswerable questions about justice and virtues. Plato, who saw the actual world of
phenomena as only a mere shadow of the real world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, Socrates is considered to be the Founder of Western philosophyand the wisest man to have
ever lived. He provided the basis for modern ethics and epistemic thought. Several historians of
Ancient Greek philosophy tried to portray him only as a literary figure created by Plato in order
to give more power to his views, nevertheless, he became the founder of a new philosophy and a
teacher of many of the great philosophers. Plato on his side, the Christian before Christ as St.
Augustine said rightly, who invited us to be a light for others in his famous text the Allegory of
the cave , reminds us of Jesus one in the Bible where he exhorts us to be a light in this world of
darkness so that others may come to have the true knowledge which is God himself. In his
exceptional work the Republic also, he encouraged each and every one of us to be a good person ,
which is another important point of the Bible. In conclusion, these super beings were an invaluable
gift to humanity, they wanted in their own way to restore the image of God in us. They ultimately
planned a new world where Wisdom, not Power

Persuasive Essay Against Legalizing Abortion
Abortion has been a controversy topic. Some people support legal abortion but some people against.
For morality most people believe abortion means killing or murdering the baby, and it is against
God s ethical code. However, Chile, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras and Republica Dominicana,
in these country abortion is illegal no matter the woman have been rape or life in danger. Although
people maintain that abortion is killing, according to a research display after legalised abortion the
mortality rate will be less than 1 per 500,000 women. Most people claim that baby is human and
they have their right to born to the earth, it is their human right. However, how to define a human?

Autism And Its Effects On Children Essay
In the United States 1 in 68 births results in an Autism diagnosis (Autism Society). In this time
period, at the moment, there are new medical discoveries every day. These breakthroughs range
from new diseases prevention methods, to new cures for previously terminal illnesses. So, because
our society is constantly changing, evolving, and improving, it is absolutely necessary to keep up
with the awareness of these new discoveries. One disorder that has existed for years, but has
recently gained a lot of awareness is Autism. Autism is defined as a disorder in brain development
that ultimately affects its victims everyday social interaction (Autismspeaks.org) . Signs and
symptoms of Autism are usually shown in early childhood, and are easily detected by parents, if
they are aware. However, if a parent or guardian notices any signs, they should take action
immediately. How fast they take action in this situation could make or break the future of their
child. Many symptoms have been connected to autism, and they are seen the best in these areas;
behavior, social skills, and speech. A child s guardian can observe these symptoms in these areas
to further increase the accuracy of the diagnosis. The average adult lacks the professional training
that psychologists and behaviourists have, so they may only be able to zero in on high frequency
behavior (Zwaigenbaum 2008). Children with autism tend to act out more than their peers in
school or daycare and are more prone to frequent

Rhetorical Analysis Of Gopro In Men s Health Magazine
It seems fair to argue that GoPro is at the pinnacle of action based video technology; however,
does owning one increase your chances of reaching heroic stature? Is the GoPro the world s most
versatile camera? The HERO3 camera, shown hurtling around a speedway in Men s Health
Magazine, says yes. Although the GoPro name holds its fair share of ethos credibility, this
advertisement focuses more so on the pathos and logos aspects of persuasion. This GoPro
advertisement in Men s Health Magazine, not only claims to be the world s most versatile camera,
it also challenges the targeted demographic to be a hero; therefore, implying not only that their
camera is far superior, but that the purchase of this product will also make the consumer heroic....

However, one could argue that the fallacy with this underlying thought process is that a true hero
does not seek self gratification. Is the firefighter that runs into a burning building any less heroic
because he is not recording it? Accordingly, a true hero is defined by their nobility of character,
not a vast collection of video exploits. Yet another logical fallacy lies in the statement world s most
versatile camera . GoPro, albeit seemingly versatile, with all the camera s specs and options on
proud display, leaves the audience uninformed about what the competition may

Nuclear Power Argumentative Essay
The disastrous meltdowns that cause whole cities to become uninhabitable, as well as leaving
families homeless and laborers without jobs, have defined the negative perspective of what
people see in nuclear power. However, even after such catastrophes, the pure raw energy output
makes nuclear power essential for the future of the human race. As time passes, the world s
energy usage has grown an increasingly massive size every year due to the consumption swell of
energy. Despite nuclear plants being a heavily controversial topic internationally, its advantages are
very well recognized and it s causing nuclear plants to slowly become the basis of our growing
society. The chemical process of nuclear plants, unlike many speculations, is rather effective and

Wind and Solar in which they go in depth on why the disposing of toxic carbon fuels and

we decide, we need to make up our minds and fast. Carbon fuels are killing us, and killing the
planet as well. And good planets are hard to come by (Conley and Maloney). The topic of carbon
fuels is a rising concern for many people. The burning of these fossil fuels is causing irreversible
impacts on many things from our environments to our health. Throughout the years there have
been many studies that have shown how the carbon fuels have distorted our health, all the way
from something simple like asthma to severe heart problems and possibly premature death.
Amongst all this, it s making global warming rise at an alarming rate causing organisms like
mosquitoes that carry diseases be able to roam at a larger extent. If we were to reduce our carbon

of the risks we suffer from carbon

Everyday Use Symbolism
A symbol is a person, place, event, or object that suggests more than just its normal meaning. The
symbols in this story, Everyday Use , were pretty clever and told a lot of clues about the story. Also
Little peepholes that would dig into deeper meanings, and hints in the story.
The first symbol, which I thought meant something was towards Maggie and Dee s mom. I was
always better at a man s job. (pg.320). In real life I am a large, big boned woman with rough,
man working hands. (pg. 318). I can kill and clean a hog as mercilessly as a man. (pg. 318) I think
because man was used a lot referring to their Mom, might have meant that she was the man of the
house. Maybe that she was the only parent and that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think it might have been a clever way of telling the readers that she did indeed start the fire, which
burned down the house that she didn t like.
What happened to Dee? I wanted to know. She s dead, Wangero said. I couldn t bear it any
longer, being named after the people who oppress me. (pg. 321). I think this might be a clue that
Dee herself is a symbol of change. Knowing that she wanted to change her name and she could
have started the house on fire because she wanted a change, a new house. Another symbol that
she is change might be how Maggie has scars from the fire I think Dee started and will never
change her look, but Dee will always be able to change.
Maggie can t appreciate these quilts! She said She d probably be back ward enough to put them
to everyday use. (pg. 323). This I m assuming is another give away that Dee represents change.
She wouldn t use a quilt for everyday use because she would always want to be changing things,
not using them everyday. Unlike Maggie who will always have those scares and would always use
the quilts.
I m thinking that the author s main use of these symbols probably suggest that she was pushing the
theme of the story. That we, the readers, could possibly understand what the whole purpose of this
story meant. The symbols were clues into deeper understandings of the story and how

The Entry of LGBT in The Eastern Cultures.
1. Introduction
This is the way God made me day by day the same statement stated to emphasize that what happens
with them (homosexual community) are God will. Moreover since the legality of same sex
marriage in United States appeared, homosexual communities in eastern country seems become
dare to show their existence and to force the government do the same thing like western culture do,
legalizing same sex marriage.
Many people argued to make the best decision from all points of view. Arus Pelangi Community
and all pro LGBT community, with the name of human rights doubt with Indonesia‟s society
and culture in which most of them deny the legality of same sex marriage. The main reason of
LGBT community‟s struggle in legalizing same sex marriage is the thought of the same sex
preference are nature. However, the reference of this assumption is still in doubt.
An effort to change constitution in a country is not an easy matter. Need a very valid reason to do
that. To analyze the truth of the statement „sex preference is nature‟, we need to dig up the
truth of the origin of homosexuality. It is about the origin of it from historical perspective, and the
origin of it from science perspective.

Sylvia Plath Poem Comparison Essay
Sylvia Plath Poem Comparison Essay
Saying Sylvia Plath was a troubled woman would be an understatement. She was a dark poet, who
attempted suicide many times, was hospitalized in a mental institution, was divorced with two
children, and wrote confessional poems about fetuses, reflection, duality, and a female perspective
on life. Putting her head in an oven and suffocating was probably the happiest moment in her life,
considering she had wanted to die since her early twenties. However, one thing that was somewhat
consistent throughout her depressing poetry would be the theme of the female perspective. The
poems selected for analysis and comparison are, A Life (1960), You re (1960), Mirror (1961), The
Courage of Shutting Up (1962) and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The last few lines seem to attribute her depression to her age, and maybe the fact that she never
got to enjoy her childhood, her young years, and she despises seeing herself grow old in the
reflection of the lake.
The Courage of Shutting Up was written in 1962, a year before Sylvia s end, and uses the ideas
of repetition, speech, and censorship to express her ideas on female obedience and civil
censorship. The female perspective here is the idea of not being able to speak out, and living in
repetition, with a defeated tongue hung up on the wall like a trophy. The poem uses many
different types of diction, but most of it is masculine, and war like, as if Plath was fighting a
war against men. The first stanza of the poem begins with The courage of the shut mouth, in
spite of artillery! and follows with bits of diction to describe a record player, with black disks...
of courage... as to describe Plath s thoughts and feelings just playing over and over again, asking
to be heard. The second stanza continues with the record player metaphor, a needle in its groove ,
and transitions to an overqualified tattooist in the third stanza, once a surgeon (maybe a metaphor
for Sylvia s downgrade from a great poet to a dumpy mother) who repeats the same overused
tattoos over and over, silently, and solemnly. The fourth stanza returns to the metaphor of war, and
artillery as well as the record player. The tongue is introduced, and is described as indefatigable,

Ali Hale Writing Process Analysis
In this week s article, the author, Ali Hale wrote about the five steps of the writing process. These
steps includes prewriting, writing, revising, editing and publishing. Prewriting is the first step of
the writing process, this step allows the writer to form ideas and write them down. Once they get an
idea of what to write, they can either brainstorm or free write. Brainstorm means writingdown any
ideas that comes to mind on a piece of paperwith the main idea in the center. These ideas can be
subtopics or directions to the article. On the other hand, free write is when the writer starts writing
their ideas down about the topic and not worry about grammar, spelling and punctuations. After the

Most Dangerous Game And The Lottery
Richard Connell and Shirley Jackson explore the perpetuation and condoning of human evils

Jackson s The Lottery is a short story about a rural town, approximately 300 and it s strange

s objective is to draw a black marked note. He who draws the final marked note is sentenced to a

The evil of The Lottery is in fact, the lottery itself. The lottery is the embodiment of the sins:
Wrath, Gluttony, and sloth. Wrath is represented by the actual result of the lottery, specifically, the
death that follows it. Gluttony refers to the Lottery as an idea. The lottery is most likely a
tradition meant to maintain the population. this maintenance is possibly made to ensure a stable
food supply for their residence, therefore supporting Gluttony. Sloth, on the other hand, resides on
the part of the residence. The People of the town embody Sloth due to their condoning of such
evils to take place. Meanwhile, in The most dangerous game , the evil is General Zaroff, and
what he represents. General Zaroff is the personification of the sins: Greed, Wrath, Lust, Pride, and
envy. Greed and Pride are the most prominent sins of this Zaroff. His greed and his pride are
echoed in his personality and with his actions. Zaroff retains much pride in his hunting skills, his
greed heaves him towards harsher and more difficult prey, as does his lust for bigger and better

Pros And Cons Of President Hoover s New Deal
Economics can be defined as the study of the efficient allocation of scarce resources. Scarcity, a
basic concept of economics, states that society has an insufficient amount of productive resources
to fill all human wants and needs. The federal government fits into all of this by guiding the
overall pace of economic activity. They attempt to do so by to maintaining a steady economic
growth, high levels of employment, and price stability. How they carry these actions out, however,
depends on which economic model they decide to follow. The two major approaches to economic
policies are the Keynesian and Classical views. Although both of these economic theories have their

Say s Law is an economic rule that claims supply creates its own demand. Ironically, Adam Smith
and John Keynes, despite having been born almost two centuries apart, had conflicting ideas
surrounding Say s Law. Adam Smith s Classical supporters agreed with Say s Law and strongly
upheld that in a free market, workers would always be willing to lower their wages to a level
where employers could profitably offer them jobs (Armstrong Economics). This declaration would
have remained true if unionization had not come to rise. Unions are recognized as organized
associations of workers formed to protect and further worker rights and interests. Because of unions,
Keynes argued that workers would not allow their wages to be lowered. Furthermore, in his General
Theory, Keynes proposed that demand was the key to unlocking economic prosperity, not supply.
Therefore, Keynes called for an activist economic role for government to stimulate demand in times
of high unemployment while ignoring

Disease Control And Prevention Starting Reporting Lyme...
Introduction
Since the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention starting reporting Lyme disease as a
reportable disease in 1991 it has been the most commonly reported vector borne illness is the
United States1. It should be noted that Lyme disease does not occur everywhere in the US, and is
heavily concentrated in upper Midwest and northeast United States1. This report has been compiled
to provide recommendations for prophylactic treatment of Lyme disease once a patient encounters a
tick bite.
Lyme disease is caused by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi, which is transmitted by Ixodes

Serologic testing has not been proven to be effective in identifying B. burgdorferi. Antimicrobial
therapy has been at the forefront of research in trying to identify if prophylactic treatment is
necessary and what drug and dosing is most appropriate.
Antimicrobial Prophylaxis
In 1992 Shapiro et al. published their research informing providers prophylactic antimicrobial
treatment is not routinely indicated.2 There were a total of 387 patients in the controlled trial,
203 patients assigned to receive amoxicillin and 182 were given a placebo. Either 250mg of
amoxicillin or a placebo was given to subjects three times a day for ten days. 15 subjects dropped
out and 7 subjects had already shown positive serologic testing to B. burgdorferi and were
therefore dismissed from the study. Out of 173 subjects who received the placebo only two
developed symptomatic infection with B. burgdorferi; whereas, none of the 192 subjects who were
given amoxicillin showed any infection. They concluded the risk of actually becoming infected
with B. burgdorferi is so small that the prophylactic use of antibiotics does not make a clinical
significance and should not be used. The authors also indicated that most deer ticks are actually not
infected with B. burgdorferi, which may help explain why so little placebo subjects showed a
positive infection after their encounter.

Fear as the Dominant Theme.
Every single person in this world fears something, and there is magnificent amount of different
types of fear that people know of. Each type of fear has a different name. For example, fear of
change is called metathesiophobia, and fear of darkness is called Achluophobia. Fear can be not
only a phobia but in a novel it can be represented as theme. One of the examples of a novel that has
a lot of fear in it is The Chrysalids by John Wyndham which took place in the future, years after a
nuclear holocaust has devastated large areas of the world. In that novel Wyndham explores
many themes throughout the text, the main one being fear. The existence of fear in this novel is
a critical factor in the unfolding of the plot. Most of the problems that occurred in John
Wyndham s tale happen because of fear. Overall, this is shown through everyone s fear of being
different, fear helped to develop Petra s character, and by everyone thinking that if a baby was
born as a blasphemy, the women is always the one who is responsible for that, but never the
man. In places like Waknuk people are terrified of being different in anyway in the Image of
God. To begin, David, who is the son of Joseph Strorm, is praying in the church for dead Aunt
Harriet and he is overwhelmed by what will happen to him if someone figures out that he is
different. Please, please, God, let me be like other people. I don t want to be different. Won t
you make it so that when I wake up in the morning I ll be just like everyone else, please, God,
please! (Wyndham 76). This quote tells the reader that even David is scared of being different.
His fear was caused by Aunt Harriet s death because of her child s small deviation. He finally
comes to the understanding of how much trouble he can get into because of his own deviation.
Another example of people fearing the difference is shown in the beginning of this novel when
David explains that children who do not behave well are frightened by their parents with the
Fringes people. In my father s childhood mothers used to quieten and awe troublesome infants by
threatening: Be good now, or I ll fetch Old Maggie from the Fringes to you. She s got four eyes to
watch you with, and four

Psoriasis
Most of the time when a person is nervous or sad, they become sensitive when other people are
aware of these feelings and quickly try to learn to hide their emotions. Many ways you can
determine this nervousness is a person may breathe heavily, stumble on their words, and avoid eye
contact during a presentation. All of these may be true, but the most obvious factor of nervousness
affects the body s largest organ the skin. When a person blushes, it is easily exposed that the
person is nervous. The linkage between skin and psychology plays an important factor in life and
may be the root of all acne, eczema, trichotillomania. These days, dermatologists are much more
accepting of the field now known as psychodermatology, which addresses the interaction... Show

It is a common dermatologic disorder that often goes undetected and untreated where the body
does not shed their excess skin cells, but instead the skin cells pile up on the surface of the skin,
causing thick red plaques covered with silvery scales. Psoriasis may look contagious, but it s not.
When the immune system functions properly, the system protects the body against any invaders
that might make you sick, such as bacteria, viruses or other pathogens. But in people with
psoriasis, the immune system goes into action even without these invaders. Instead, the immune
system fights the body s own tissues. Although it is a genetic condition, stress can have an
impact on the immune system as well and doctors have long suspected a link between stress and
psoriasis. According to Psychodermatology: A Guide to Understanding Common
Psychocutaneous Disorders, stress has been reported in 44% of patients prior to the initial flare
of psoriasis, and recurrent flares have been attributed to stress in up to 80% of individuals. Early
onset psoriasis before age 40 may be more easily triggered by stress than late onset disease, and
patients who self report high levels of psychologic stress may have more severe skin and joint

The Effect Of Temperature On The Pressure Of A Tennis Ball
Pressure and temperature, two important subjects in the broad system of knowledge, Science. It is
true that temperature greatly affects the pressure of a tennis ball; temperature can increase and
reduce pressure of a tennis ball, depending on the heat added or taken away; this would benefit
people designing objects to absorb shock. A good example of this would be, when designing
buildings to survive in areas where earthquakes happen frequently. What is the effect of temperature
on pressure? That is the question that will be answered in this document of inquiry.
A normal tennis ball has a rubber core occupied with a gas that is composed of unorganized
molecules or atoms that move around freely. Molecules of a gas can effortlessly expand and
contract. When the ball hits the ground, the force causes the ball s bottom surface in, and the gas in
the core constricts. The gas then springs up when the ball becomes its usual shape, causing the
tennis ball to bounce up.
The height of a tennis ball s bounce is determined by the pressure of the gas in the ball s core.
Pressure of a gas can be found with this equation: pressure =density Г— temperature Г— constant
At a higher temperature, there is more pressure (if there isn t a single change in density and
constant); at a lower temperature, there will be less pressure. When temperature rises, the ball s gas
molecules expand; when gas molecules expand, the molecules bounce irregularly due to an increase
in energy. When temperature drops,

Throughout The History Of The World, People Have Thought
Throughout the history of the world, people have thought of new and innovative ways to
communicate. In the past, people used smoke signals, telegrams, home telephones, and car
telephones. Now the primary form of communication typically occurs on a cell phone. Cell phones
have improved and developed a significant amount over the years. In 1973, the first cell phone, the
Motorola Dyna Tac, hit the market. It weighed an astonishing two pounds, and only had one feature
voice calls. Fast forward to the present day, most consumers not only own cell phones, but they own
smartphones. These smartphones are now capable of incredible things. Features such as text
messaging, video calling, and artificial intelligence come standard on most models.... Show more

The study concluded that cell phone conversations and texting conversation both distracted the
pedestrians by delaying their overall response times. This research suggests that both types of
phone usage are unsafe to participate in while attempting to cross a street, and have the potential
to lead to an unsuccessful crossing attempt. Secondly, cell phones are a huge culprit in distracted
driving. Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of collisions in the United States. The
drivers with the least behind the wheel experience, teens and young adults, are the primary
culprits of driving while distracted. The average time it takes to read a text message is 5
seconds. If a person is driving at 55 mph, looking away for that mere 5 seconds is equivalent to
not looking while crossing the entire length of a football field. Granted, there are things other than
cell phones that distract people while driving, but cell phones still play a vital roll in the
distracted driving scene. In a study conducted by Sumie Leung, Rodney Croft, and Melinda
Jackson, the effect of mobile phone usage and alcohol consumption on driving performance are
compared. The study involved twelve adults who participated in a stimulated driving environment
either using their phones for a variety of tasks or consuming alcohol directly prior to driving. The
researchers allowed for a one week washout period between the two different activities. When

An Analysis Of Bach s The On The Spirits Of Music Lovers
The title Clavierubung means keyboard study or exercise, a term that probably referred both to
the keyboard skill of the performer and the inventive powers of the composer. Bach s full title
added that the music was to refresh the spirits of music lovers, omitting the pedagogic
implications of the candid instruction that headed the title of the inventions and sinfonias. The
Clavierubung consists of four major parts: 1.The six partitas, published in 1731. 2.An overture
and concerto (1735). 3.Four duets and organ chorales (1739). 4.Goldberg variations (1742). This
essay focuses on the first part the partitas. The meaning of the term partita is complex. Partita is
the Italian form of the word and it developed as a variation technique. In Germany it was used to
refer to a collection of contrasting dances played one after another on festive occasions. It was
this usage that was adopted by Froberger and other German composers of the 17th century when
they applied it to the collections of dance movements for the keyboard. It seems that Bach was
aware of the many implications of the term partita. It is possible that the suites which he assigned
this name were so designated because they more nearly fulfilled the varied implications of the name
that did his other suites. In the keyboard partitas Bach adhered to the old practice of maintaining
the identity of key throughout an entire piece. The variety of forms in the partitas is immediately
apparent. Each one of them opens

The collapses of the Iranian monarchy and the Soviet Union resulted in the establishment of two of
the world s most prominent nations. The similarities between the two nations can be seen in
multiple areas. First, historically both nations were at one time under the rule of totalitarian
regimes. The Iranians from 1925 1979 lived under the oppressive regime of the Pahlavi Dynasty.
During this time, the Shah, Reza Shah Pahlavi also known as Reza Khan, took the first step in
consolidating power. Reza Shah was appointed prime minister by the last Shah of the Qajar

Background Of The Canterbury Tales
Before Geoffrey Chaucer could write The Canterbury Tales, he needed a reason to write them. That
reason was the history of Canterbury. Everything comes with a past, but like most of English
history, Canterbury has an engrossing history attached to the name. This includes brown nosing,
jealousy, and murder. Everything that is usually associated with a church.
The history of the Canterbury Cathedral is riveting. According to the cathedral s website, it was
built between 1070 and 1077. The next half century went by quietly, then around 1118 a boy
named Thomas a Becket was born. Not much is known about his early life, but he eventually
became chancellor, or secretary, for King Henry II of England. They grew to be close comrades.
Amy Miller, a Junior Scholastic writer for New York, in the article The Murder of St. Thomas a
Becket published in Scholastic Inc., explains, Henry and Becket became close friends. They often
hunted together, and the king gave Becket expensive gifts. Henry enjoyed his chancellor s company
so much that he even dropped by Becket s home unannounced (1). The friendship that had
developed between the king and Thomas would soon turn deadly.
King Henry did great work in the start of his reign. The young king did not disappoint his subjects.
During his reign, trade increased, towns grew, and great cathedrals were built throughout the
English countryside. The country was so prosperous that it became known as Merrie England
(Miller 1). Then King Henry

Conflict Resolution Of The Workplace
Conflict in the Workplace Kara K. Martin University of South Dakota Abstract While an
individual may attempt to avoid conflict in the workplace, there is no way to actually escape it.
In the workplace environment, there are a variety of co worker relationships and challenging
work situations that may increase our emotional response. Therefore, it is important for
employees to have the skills and abilities to recognize when conflict occurs, identify the type of
conflict, and to implement effective strategies that will bring about a rapid resolution to the
conflict which satisfies all stakeholders. Many people allow themselves to become emotional
which is ineffectual when conflict occurs. Other individuals are fearful of conflict in the
workplace and hope that if they bury their heads in the sand the situation may resolve on its own
without any interventions. Unfortunately, very seldom does conflict in the workplace resolve on
its own accord. In order to prevent conflict from escalating, it is imperative for employees to take
a proactive approach and implement strategies which provide a framework for conflict resolution.
Methods for conflict resolution are provided with Bernard Mayer s Wheel of Conflict (Mayer,
2000) and Christopher Moore s Triangle of Satisfaction (Moore, 2003). This paper will provide an
analysis of a workplace conflict and demonstrate conflict resolution utilizing each method.

The Banality Of Evil By Arendt Staub And Hannah Arendt
Over the years following the Holocaust, people like Ervin Staub and Hannah Arendt have shared
their different views on the idea of evil. Staub and Arendt both have very different ideas and
concepts. Arendt s concept, the banality of evil is a very controversial explanation, while Staub s
goes into more depth and his arguments on evilare more powerful. The causes of evil are
accessible; not ultimately mysterious and we now can predict genocide. Both people share their
explanations of National Socialist evil. According to Staub who wrote The Roots of Evil, the

With intense difficult life conditions, they give rise to powerful motives and lead to ways of
fulfilling them, in which that group can go against a subgroup. They go against other weaker
groups, diminish that group and then join new strong groups, like Nazis under Hitler and his
ideology. People will do anything to satisfy their own interests (pg26). People will do whatever it
takes, even if it involves killing others. Eventually this will lead the society to change and have a
continuum of destruction that will end in genocide. In the end it is shown that difficult life
conditions and certain cultural characteristics allows a society to become vulnerable, which makes
it easy to be taken over. The societal political organization can have an authoritarian/totalitarian
system that involves mistreatment. Once again there is that concept that people follow and listen to
their new leader in hope for things, like life to get only better and they adopt a new ideology in
hope for a beneficial change. Nonetheless, the new leaders and their followers are rooted in the
culture, frequently a homogeneous one with a limited set of dominant values (pg33). There is a
great deal of obedience to authority with respect. Also, they join a group to be or feel connected
to others, like themselves. That plays a major role with the in group and out group, in which the in
group is powerful and the out group is inferior as well as being scapegoated. The out group is being

In the interviewing process the data obtained showed that cost effectiveness and convenience were
the primary reasons why they began to use the new concepts in video rental instead of continuing
to use the rental store. In those who continue to show patronage to the rental store, the primary
reason is based in their own lack of technological advancement or desire for change. Individuals
may be satisfied with the status quo because their needs are being met, they may view any potential

Within the organization itself resistance to change by employees is primarily based in fear.

Money Politics And Political Godfatherism In Nigeria
Nigeria is one of the African countries that is responding to Western pressures to make its states
acquire a liberal and democratic culture. Over the years, Nigeria has practiced what can be
described as fraudulent democracy. This democracy has been characterized by obnoxious acts such
as indiscriminately using money and by very powerful and influential members of the elite class,
popularly called ‚political godfathers, imposing political leaders on the people. This situation
has already become a culture in Nigeriabecause many politicians who want to contest and win
electionsalways look for such persons to support them. This means that they no longer depend on
the electorates to win elections, but instead rely on the political godfathers. This political culture
was truncated in the 2007 gubernatorial electionin Edo state, Nigeria. This paper examines how the
problem of money politics and political godfatherism can be eliminated from Nigeria s politics in

Money Politics and Political Godfatherism An Overview
Money politics refers to the excessive use of financial resources to encourage illegal activities or
behaviours in politics, especially during periods of election. On the other hand, political
godfatherism describes a situation in which very powerful and influential members of the elite
class use their power, money and influence to determine who should rule or occupy a given
political office and who impose these leaders on the people. The leaders are generally forced upon
the masses through intimidation, harassment and an excessive use of money. Political godfathers
act as the financial backbone for politicians who want to occupy political offices at all cost. Such
political office holders usually become tied to the apron string of their godfathers. According to

While at the Salzburg court, Mozart composed his only violin concertos, as well as his first
piano concertos. However, Mozart grew discontent with his work at court when his desire to
work on operas was not encouraged. Mozart began looking for alternative employment in 1777
with a journey to Paris with his mother. While on his tour of Paris, he had financial difficulty,
and fell to pawning valuables. While he was gone, his father worked to secure a better position
for Mozart in the Salzburg court, and after the death of his mother, Mozart returned to Salzburg.
However, his discontent was little diminished, and he left for Vienna in 1781. There, he worked
as a freelance composer and performer, and established himself as one of the best keyboard players
in Vienna. This period of Mozart s life saw his marriage to Constanze Weber, as well as moderately
great success with his opera Die EntfГјhrung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio).
Over the next few years, Mozart mounted a number of concerts featuring himself as a piano
soloist which pushed him to great success and high accolades from his audience. Mozart also
began to realize moderate financial success, which led him to adopt a more opulent lifestyle.
Incidentally, this increase in lifestyle would lead to financial difficulties later. Around 1786,

floor yet more than 25% of the marine life finds itself home within the coral reefs. Not only do
coral reefs provide shelter for sea life, they also protect shorelines from erosion. In this case, coral
reefs do not just serve the ocean but they serve human life as well. Rainforests are number one
when it comes to their diversity of animals and species, and coralreefs are second in diversity.

matter how far into the ocean coral reefs are located, it is important that humans understand how
significant and important they are to our lives, our sea life and our oceans. Just because we do not

Themes Of Flowers For Algernon
Flowers for Algernon Essay by Matthew Duran
Flowers for Algernon Essay by Matthew Duran In Flowers for Algernon, numerous themes appear
throughout Charlie Gordon s journey. Charlie Gordon, the story s protagonist, is considered to be
used as a test subject for an original experiment that can potentially change the face of science.
After many tests, Charlie undergoes an operation, as a result, a slow progression begins in his
overall intelligence levels.
In the excerpt Flowers for Algernon written by Daniel Keyes, the theme conveyed is that people
should try to modify nature s course for the benefit of science. Daniel Keyes first expresses this
by the characters dialogue, at first when Charlie spoke, he was lost, he spoke with no emotion
and did not truly nor fully understand the concept of his conversations, but after the surgery, he
communicated with a passion he knew what he was saying and could get is point across to
other people. The second thing Keyes asserts is Algernon, without the operation Algernon would
just be a normal mouse eating and sleeping, doing what all other pet mice do, but with the
surgery, Algernon became important, he was the foundation for the experiment and there was a
more important point in his life, but Algernon did eventually decline and pass away but without
him the experiment would have been in question and Algernon helped answer those questions,
Algernon also served as a friend and representation of Charlie, this is due to the fact that both
Algernon and Charlie were the only ones who received this special surgery, so in a sense they
both were connected. Charlie really loved Algernon and Algernon sort of understood that, him
and Charlie were connected mentally and physically, with our the operation this bond would no
have been possible so this whole operation helped Charlie receive a good friend not a regular
companion. The final example Keyes provides is Charlie Gordon s progress reports, at first,
Charlie wrote incorrectly and with no emotion, bland, but after the operation, he wrote correctly
and with feelings because he was experiencing life he felt sadness, a bit of happiness and love
something he could not have felt without the surgery, people may argue that he

Columbia’s Final Mission Essay
This paper about Columbia s Final Mission Case.
Putting yourself in the shoes of the managers or engineers in the case (Ron Dittemore, Linda Ham,
Don McCormack, Rodney Rocha, Pamela Madera, Calvin Schomburg), consider the following
questions?
What prior assumptions and beliefs shaped the way that you thought and behaved during the
Columbia mission?
What pressures affected your behavior? Where did these pressures originate?
In what ways did the culture impact your actions?
If you were in that person s shoes during the Columbia mission, would you have behaved
differently? Why or why not?
a)Rodney Rocha Rodney Rocha is a NASA engineer and co chair of Debris Assessment Team
(DTS). When possibility of wing damage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
b)Ron Dittemore Ronald Dittemore, manager of Shuttle Program, received reports directly from
Wayne Hale (manager of Launch Integration) and Linda Ham (manager of Space ShuttleProgram
Integration). It is clear that decision about foam issue was made based on communication with
Linda Ham, stating that in previous flights had no critical problems with foam. Dittemore did not
attempt to receive a professional opinion from the engineers. Furthermore, Rocha sent an e mail to
Dittemore in order to determine whether Columbia s crew could make a space walk to perform an
inspection of the wing. Answer to this e mail was never received suggesting that communication
attempts directly from engineers to high level managers were rejected. NASA is a complex
organization that maintains strict reporting relationship. Information exchange is built on hierarchy
and rules did not facilitate fast informal communication between employees and high level
management. This filtering process diminished the information flow to the key decision makers. To
solve this hierarchical structure managers like Dittemore should exaggerate their ambiguous
threats, avoid status differences and build trust among employees. Managers ought to communicate
with specialists in order to obtain reliable information and understand the situation.
c)Pamela Madera Pamela Madera, United Space Alliance engineering manager, was a chair of DAT.
DAT was assigned to

Jealousy in Villains of Different Works
Jealousy, it is what gets the best and, of course, the worst of people. Iago in Shakespeare s play
Othello is one of the worst villains out there. Other villains, such as Scar in Disney s The Lion
King , Jafar in Disney s Aladdin , and Mother Gothel from Disney s Tangled have closely related
motives and jealous personalities. All four betray and kill for reasons they believe are going to
further the lives they intend to lead after their master plans. The stem of the jealousyroots from
never having enough power and feeling inferior. Iagos jealousy rises mainly from a his boss, Othello
, picking Cassio to be his right hand man. One Michael Cassio, a Florentine, a fellow almost damn

The fact that they only care about themselves is clearly and openly show in the end. It s all about
the honor and loyalty the believe they have. Iago s betrayal happens to a couple different people,
just like Jafar betrays a couple of people. On the other hand, Scar and Mother Gothel really only
betray one other person. Scar betrays his nephew, Simba, by brain washing him to run away
from his land/home. Meanwhile some of Scar s henchmen cause a stampede that is intended to
kill Simba and his father Mufasa. Although Simba survives the stampede, his uncle Scar still
tried to kill him. Mother Gothel goes back on her word because she steals a child from a
kingdom and makes it her own to gain her youth from Rapunzel s hair. Gothel never tells
Rapunzel about her life back in town as the daughter of the king and queen. She feeds Rapunzel
lies to get her to live with her. She does not want Rapunzel to live out her dreams and leave her
because without Rapunzel s magic hair she has no way of turning young again. In Aladdin, Jafar
is trying to retrieve a magic lamp so, he seeks help from a young boy. The young boy named
Aladdin and, he has to venture down into The Cave of Wonders . Jafar tells Aladdin that if he
find the magic lamp and brings it back to Jafar that he can have the rest of the gold and treasures
in the cave. Of course Jafar betrays Aladdin by pushing him back down the cave so he can never

The Persuaders Documentary Analysis
The Persuaders is a 90 minute documentary which draws on experts in and observers of the world
of marketing to explore how the culture of marketing influences what Americans buy, how they
view the world around them, and their expectation of themselves. The beginning of the film
explains how marketers are looking for new ways to increase not the usefulness of a product, but it
s image. Once, advertising showed the public what the product did, but now it persuades them to
purchase the identity of the item what it means to buy or use it. The second half of the film offers
insight into how the new identity marketingis being applied to politics, and it s effect on the

Risk Assessment and Risk Management
Risk assessment and risk management
Introduction
There are many hazards associated in an industrial workplace. With new technologies, new
machinery and constant updates with regulations it is more important now than ever before to
produce efficient risk assessments. Good risk assessments reduce hazards and fatalities in
dangerous areas in the workplace. A good riskassessment will make workers feel safer and
therefore happier and promotes a good business structure within the company. A good risk
assessment will help prevent legal action against the company therefore saving the company money.
Identifying Hazards
When looking at a general workshop there are several hazards that could potentially cause an
accident. In this section, I will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accidents with tools
The engineers have to use tools to carry out maintenance work, tools include small pocket
knives, screwdrivers, drills, ratchet sets etc. There is the need of tools to do maintenance so the
likelihood of incidents and accidents is very likely (Frequency: 4), severity is not as bad as there
are a lack of dangerous saws and other dangerous tools etc. Cuts from electrical/ metallic
equipment are also likely as well but shouldn t be too severe (Severity: 3).
Trip/Slip Hazards
Trip hazards come from misplaced boxes, pallets and other items that have been misplaced. Slip
hazards can come from a leaky roof or spilled drink, these incidences can often occur (Frequency:
3) but they usually don t do too much damage but on rarity can be fatal (Severity: 2).
Oxidising Hazards
There are no real chemicals within the workplace that can cause oxidising problems or need
constant ventilation, therefore any oxidising accidents should be extremely rare (frequency: 1) but
if they was a miraculous incident, it could cause an explosion (Severity: 5).
Environment Hazards
There is waste in the workshop that can be harmful to the environment, such as disposing old
batteries that have Ni Cad Acid which can harm the environment /animals. Waste and rubbish is of
a high quantity and should be exposed of properly using the correct authorities. The amount of
rubbish thrown out of the

Greek philosophers who were seekers and lovers of wisdom tried to approach these life s big questions sometimes in a scientific way, other times in mystic ways, but always imaginatively. Among them, we remember: Pythagoras of Samos, who was viewed as a charlatan because he believed in the doctrine of reincarnation. Socrates: walking half naked in Athens streets, used to ask people provocative and often unanswerable questions about justice and virtues. Several historians of Ancient Greek philosophy tried to portray him only as a literary figure created by Plato in order to give more power to his views, nevertheless, he became the founder of a new philosophy and a teacher of many of the great philosophers. Plato on his side, the Christian before Christ as St. Augustine said rightly, who invited us to be a light for others in his famous text the Allegory of the cave , reminds us of Jesus one in the Bible where he exhorts us to be a light in this world of darkness so that others may come to have the true knowledge which is God himself. In his exceptional work the Republic also, he encouraged each and every one of us to be a good person , which is another important point of the Bible. In conclusion, these super beings were an invaluable gift to humanity, they wanted in their own way to restore the image of God in us. They ultimately planned a new world where Wisdom, not Power ... She was a dark poet, who attempted suicide many times, was hospitalized in a mental institution, was divorced with two children, and wrote confessional poems about fetuses, reflection, duality, and a female perspective on life. Putting her head in an oven and suffocating was probably the happiest moment in her life, considering she had wanted to die since her early twenties. However, one thing that was somewhat consistent throughout her depressing poetry would be the theme of the female perspective. The last few lines seem to attribute her depression to her age, and maybe the fact that she never got to enjoy her childhood, her young years, and she despises seeing herself grow old in the reflection of the lake. The Courage of Shutting Up was written in 1962, a year before Sylvia s end, and uses the ideas of repetition, speech, and censorship to express her ideas on female obedience and civil censorship. The female perspective here is the idea of not being able to speak out, and living in repetition, with a defeated tongue hung up on the wall like a trophy. The poem uses many different types of diction, but most of it is masculine, and war like, as if Plath was fighting a war against men. The first stanza of the poem begins with The courage of the shut mouth, in spite of artillery! and follows with bits of diction to describe a record player, with black disks... of courage... as to describe Plath s thoughts and feelings just playing over and over again, asking to be heard. The second stanza continues with the record player metaphor, a needle in its groove , and transitions to an overqualified tattooist in the third stanza, once a surgeon (maybe a metaphor for Sylvia s downgrade from a great poet to a dumpy mother) who repeats the same overused tattoos over and over, silently, and solemnly. • 22. Fear As The Dominant Theme In The Chrysalids By John Wyndham Fear as the Dominant Theme. Every single person in this world fears something, and there is magnificent amount of different types of fear that people know of. Each type of fear has a different name. For example, fear of change is called metathesiophobia, and fear of darkness is called Achluophobia. Fear can be not only a phobia but in a novel it can be represented as theme. One of the examples of a novel that has a lot of fear in it is The Chrysalids by John Wyndham which took place in the future, years after a nuclear holocaust has devastated large areas of the world. In that novel Wyndham explores many themes throughout the text, the main one being fear. The existence of fear in this novel is a critical factor in the unfolding of the plot. Most of the problems that occurred in John Wyndham s tale happen because of fear. Overall, this is shown through everyone s fear of being different, fear helped to develop Petra s character, and by everyone thinking that if a baby was born as a blasphemy, the women is always the one who is responsible for that, but never the man. In places like Waknuk people are terrified of being different in anyway in the Image of God. To begin, David, who is the son of Joseph Strorm, is praying in the church for dead Aunt Harriet and he is overwhelmed by what will happen to him if someone figures out that he is different. Please, please, God, let me be like other people. I don t want to be different. Won t you make it so that when I wake up in the morning I ll be just like everyone else, please, God, please! (Wyndham 76). This quote tells the reader that even David is scared of being different. His fear was caused by Aunt Harriet s death because of her child s small deviation. He finally comes to the understanding of how much trouble he can get into because of his own deviation. Another example of people fearing the difference is shown in the beginning of this novel when David explains that children who do not behave well are frightened by their parents with the Fringes people. It is a common dermatologic disorder that often goes undetected and untreated where the body does not shed their excess skin cells, but instead the skin cells pile up on the surface of the skin, causing thick red plaques covered with silvery scales. Psoriasis may look contagious, but it s not. When the immune system functions properly, the system protects the body against any invaders that might make you sick, such as bacteria, viruses or other pathogens. But in people with psoriasis, the immune system goes into action even without these invaders. Instead, the immune system fights the body s own tissues. Although it is a genetic condition, stress can have an impact on the immune system as well and doctors have long suspected a link between stress and psoriasis. According to Psychodermatology: A Guide to Understanding Common Psychocutaneous Disorders, stress has been reported in 44% of patients prior to the initial flare of psoriasis, and recurrent flares have been attributed to stress in up to 80% of individuals. Early onset psoriasis before age 40 may be more easily triggered by stress than late onset disease, and patients who self report high levels of psychologic stress may have more severe skin and joint ... • 24. The Effect Of Temperature On The Pressure Of A Tennis Ball Pressure and temperature, two important subjects in the broad system of knowledge, Science. It is true that temperature greatly affects the pressure of a tennis ball; temperature can increase and reduce pressure of a tennis ball, depending on the heat added or taken away; this would benefit people designing objects to absorb shock. A good example of this would be, when designing buildings to survive in areas where earthquakes happen frequently. What is the effect of temperature on pressure? That is the question that will be answered in this document of inquiry. A normal tennis ball has a rubber core occupied with a gas that is composed of unorganized molecules or atoms that move around freely. Molecules of a gas can effortlessly expand and contract. When the ball hits the ground, the force causes the ball s bottom surface in, and the gas in the core constricts. The gas then springs up when the ball becomes its usual shape, causing the tennis ball to bounce up. The height of a tennis ball s bounce is determined by the pressure of the gas in the ball s core. Pressure of a gas can be found with this equation: pressure =density Г— temperature Г— constant At a higher temperature, there is more pressure (if there isn t a single change in density and constant); at a lower temperature, there will be less pressure. When temperature rises, the ball s gas molecules expand; when gas molecules expand, the molecules bounce irregularly due to an increase in energy. When temperature drops, ... In the past, people used smoke signals, telegrams, home telephones, and car telephones. Now the primary form of communication typically occurs on a cell phone. Cell phones have improved and developed a significant amount over the years. In 1973, the first cell phone, the Motorola Dyna Tac, hit the market. It weighed an astonishing two pounds, and only had one feature voice calls. Fast forward to the present day, most consumers not only own cell phones, but they own smartphones. These smartphones are now capable of incredible things. Features such as text messaging, video calling, and artificial intelligence come standard on most models.... This research suggests that both types of phone usage are unsafe to participate in while attempting to cross a street, and have the potential to lead to an unsuccessful crossing attempt. Secondly, cell phones are a huge culprit in distracted driving. Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of collisions in the United States. The drivers with the least behind the wheel experience, teens and young adults, are the primary culprits of driving while distracted. The average time it takes to read a text message is 5 seconds. If a person is driving at 55 mph, looking away for that mere 5 seconds is equivalent to not looking while crossing the entire length of a football field. Granted, there are things other than cell phones that distract people while driving, but cell phones still play a vital roll in the distracted driving scene. In a study conducted by Sumie Leung, Rodney Croft, and Melinda Jackson, the effect of mobile phone usage and alcohol consumption on driving performance are compared. The study involved twelve adults who participated in a stimulated driving environment either using their phones for a variety of tasks or consuming alcohol directly prior to driving. • 27. An Analysis Of Bach s The On The Spirits Of Music Lovers The title Clavierubung means keyboard study or exercise, a term that probably referred both to the keyboard skill of the performer and the inventive powers of the composer. Bach s full title added that the music was to refresh the spirits of music lovers, omitting the pedagogic implications of the candid instruction that headed the title of the inventions and sinfonias. The Clavierubung consists of four major parts: 1.The six partitas, published in 1731. 2.An overture and concerto (1735). 3.Four duets and organ chorales (1739). 4.Goldberg variations (1742). This essay focuses on the first part the partitas. The meaning of the term partita is complex. Partita is the Italian form of the word and it developed as a variation technique. In Germany it was used to refer to a collection of contrasting dances played one after another on festive occasions. It was this usage that was adopted by Froberger and other German composers of the 17th century when they applied it to the collections of dance movements for the keyboard. It seems that Bach was aware of the many implications of the term partita. It is possible that the suites which he assigned this name were so designated because they more nearly fulfilled the varied implications of the name that did his other suites. In the keyboard partitas Bach adhered to the old practice of maintaining the identity of key throughout an entire piece. The variety of forms in the partitas is immediately apparent. Amy Miller, a Junior Scholastic writer for New York, in the article The Murder of St. Thomas a Becket published in Scholastic Inc., explains, Henry and Becket became close friends. They often hunted together, and the king gave Becket expensive gifts. Henry enjoyed his chancellor s company so much that he even dropped by Becket s home unannounced (1). The friendship that had developed between the king and Thomas would soon turn deadly. King Henry did great work in the start of his reign. The young king did not disappoint his subjects. • 30. Conflict Resolution Of The Workplace Conflict in the Workplace Kara K. Martin University of South Dakota Abstract While an individual may attempt to avoid conflict in the workplace, there is no way to actually escape it. In the workplace environment, there are a variety of co worker relationships and challenging work situations that may increase our emotional response. Therefore, it is important for employees to have the skills and abilities to recognize when conflict occurs, identify the type of conflict, and to implement effective strategies that will bring about a rapid resolution to the conflict which satisfies all stakeholders. Many people allow themselves to become emotional which is ineffectual when conflict occurs. Other individuals are fearful of conflict in the workplace and hope that if they bury their heads in the sand the situation may resolve on its own without any interventions. Unfortunately, very seldom does conflict in the workplace resolve on its own accord. In order to prevent conflict from escalating, it is imperative for employees to take a proactive approach and implement strategies which provide a framework for conflict resolution. Methods for conflict resolution are provided with Bernard Mayer s Wheel of Conflict (Mayer, 2000) and Christopher Moore s Triangle of Satisfaction (Moore, 2003). Themes Of Flowers For Algernon Flowers for Algernon Essay by Matthew Duran Flowers for Algernon Essay by Matthew Duran In Flowers for Algernon, numerous themes appear throughout Charlie Gordon s journey. Charlie Gordon, the story s protagonist, is considered to be used as a test subject for an original experiment that can potentially change the face of science. After many tests, Charlie undergoes an operation, as a result, a slow progression begins in his overall intelligence levels. In the excerpt Flowers for Algernon written by Daniel Keyes, the theme conveyed is that people should try to modify nature s course for the benefit of science. Daniel Keyes first expresses this by the characters dialogue, at first when Charlie spoke, he was lost, he spoke with no emotion and did not truly nor fully understand the concept of his conversations, but after the surgery, he communicated with a passion he knew what he was saying and could get is point across to other people. The second thing Keyes asserts is Algernon, without the operation Algernon would just be a normal mouse eating and sleeping, doing what all other pet mice do, but with the surgery, Algernon became important, he was the foundation for the experiment and there was a more important point in his life, but Algernon did eventually decline and pass away but without him the experiment would have been in question and Algernon helped answer those questions, Algernon also served as a friend and representation of Charlie, this is due to the fact that both Algernon and Charlie were the only ones who received this special surgery, so in a sense they both were connected. Charlie really loved Algernon and Algernon sort of understood that, him and Charlie were connected mentally and physically, with our the operation this bond would no have been possible so this whole operation helped Charlie receive a good friend not a regular companion. The final example Keyes provides is Charlie Gordon s progress reports, at first, Charlie wrote incorrectly and with no emotion, bland, but after the operation, he wrote correctly and with feelings because he was experiencing life he felt sadness, a bit of happiness and love something he could not have felt without the surgery, people may argue that he ...
