Aristotle s Theory Of Falling
My thesis is twofold: Aristotle s empirical arguments supporting the view that the earth is a sphere are
not convincing ; however, his hybrid argument combining a priori and empirical claims based on his
theory of falling succeeds in displacing Pre Socratic Cosmology and empirically grounding the
creation cosmology of Plato s Timaeus.
Aristotle inherited a tradition of cosmologies espoused by the Presocratics beginning with Thales, The
Earth floats on water, which is in some way the source of all things (Kirk B13) . The tradition
continues with Anaximenes, The earth is flat and rides on air (B13) and reaches a zenith with
Parmenides, ...there is a furthest limit, it is perfected, like the bulk of a ball well rounded on every
side, equally balanced in every direction from the center (Fr. 8 32 49). These three quotes identify two
themes that Aristotle would face while developing his cosmogony: how does the earth maintain its
place in the universe and what is its shape.
Aristotle also labored under the imposing shadow of his teacher Plato who developed his cosmology
in the Timaeus, ...he should fashion the world as a single whole... And he gave it a shape appropriate
to the kind of thing it was... Hence he gave it a round shape, the form of a sphere... (Timaeus 33a b).
Plato identifies the correct shape of the earth but he does not argue for this conclusion. Aristotle will
have to ground this idea in empirical science not myth.
The first step for Aristotle in On the Heavens is

Genetic Testing or Genetic Screening
Genetic testing, also known as screening, is a rapidly advancing new scientific field that can
potentially revolutionize not only the world of medicine, but many aspects of our lives. Genetic
screening is the sequencing of human DNA in order to discover genetic differences, anomalies, or
mutations that may prove pathological. As genetic screening becomes more advanced and easily
accessible, it presents society with difficult questions that must be asked about the boundaries of
science and to what degree we are allowed to tamper with the human genome. To better understand
the potential impact of genetic screening on our society, we must examine the potential benefits in
comparison to the possible negative impact it may cause. With this ... Show more content on

335). There are many reasons to support further research into genetic screening but unfortunately such
a complicated and controversial field also brings up ethical, legal and social issues that need to be
addressed. One of the greatest issues surrounding genetic screening is one of privacy and potential
discrimination. Some people fear that a predictive test that shows someone is at higher risk of
developing a particular condition can be used against said person. Employers could become interested
in knowing the probabilities of their workers developing chronic conditions, which might lead to
hiring discrimination. Genetic predispositions towards certain diseases could also be used to deny
health insurance to some individuals. This may seem unlikely but it is an issue that definitely warrants
concern. Brynne Stainsby s father was diagnosed with the gene that causes degenerative brain
disorder, meaning she had one in two odds of developing Huntington s disease. When preparing to
start her own chiropractic practice she learned that it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to
get covered if she possesses this same gene. Simply coming from a family that was predisposed to
Huntington s disease was enough to disqualify her from life or disability insurance. Many people find
it hard to believe that such discrimination could occur in a country as

St. Francis Dam Essay
The St. Francis Dam was open for use in 1926, following two years of constructions. The dam was
built in order to give the city of Los Angeles, and various other areas within the region a source of
water. Though the dam itself had good intentions, faulty engineering design, and bad construction
ultimately led to the untimely collapse of the dam on March 12th, 1928. After extensive research by
various local, state, and federal investigators, it was determined that engineers didn t take into account
or didn t care for safety measures of the dam. Since the St. Francis Dam was so profitable, many
people including non engineering personnel intentionally ignored the obvious early signs that the dam
was going to collapse. No one wanted to lose out on the economic prosperity the dam was giving. The
dam itself was for the most part proven to be inadequate even before the dam itself collapsed. The
personal who worked on the construction and the maintenance of the dam saw negative signs early on
such as cracks in the dam, and leaks. Still, despite these obvious warnings, the engineers and personals
ignored these issue. The negligence of these workers and their failure to report or take seriously the
warning signs lead to the collapse. This dam disaster was extremely catastrophic, and lead to the death
of some 431 people. After the collapse of the dam, many new pages of regulations and engineering
code were implemented in order to prevent another collapse of this dam again.

The Idea Of Contyping In The Real Ones By Jo Crayola
Does accepting one s femininity mean having to put on a dress and wear makeup? Does expressing
one s femininity mean having to get married, have babies and looking after the children and their
husbands at home? The women today can be so much more without losing their feminism. There was
a time when men are to hunt and gather food while women stayed at home and cooked and give birth
and look after the children. Nowadays, women are as educated as the men and are able to hold any
position that had been reserved for men. Women today are politicians, leaders of countries,
professionals and even combat soldiers. Thus, they have proven that they are equal to any tasks. The
only reason why they are lacking is probably because of social stereotyping. This is the reason why it
is particularly important to empower femininity.
It is easy to ridicule the idea of empowering femininity is because society already hold negative
attitudes toward anything considered feminine. The poem The Real Ones by Jo Crayola cannot be too
far off from reality when describing how society perceived a real woman or mother should be and how
she should conduct herself. A female can only be considered as feminine if she does not wear a tattoo,
grown a lap, and a husband and a hairless armpit . It is imperative that the world should move beyond
this stereotyping to dismiss and demean feminine gender expression, and to truly recognise women for
who they are. Society has to understand that female

Richard Cory Poem Explication
I chose this poem because the meaning of it can relate to so many people. Everyone has insecurities,
but some of them do very well at hiding them and acting as if they don t care about what people think
about those insecurities. But what lots of people don t know is that when others point out those
insecurities, they go home and do things that makes the people who said something want to regret
saying it. What I like about the poem is that the ending is so unexpected and deep. That is because he
would say good morning and talk to the people. Richard Cory walks around his town, trying to strike
up conversations with its townspeople, since he s lonely and wants to make a conversation to connect
with other people. It could relate to me because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

isolates Richard in loneliness. This isolation is revealed in the last line of the poem
Went home and put a bullet through his head. the figurative language reveals some sensory details the
envy of the town people, and makes the isolation that Cory feels even more deadly to make him kill

consonant throughout the poem is. Phrases with words in close proximity that start with are

The Benefits Of Solar Panels
In the world today, we have found that we are using up a great deal of our energy resources such as oil
and coal. It has also become evident that our alternate sources like natural gas are not suitable
considering the safety hazards involved with them. With these ideas being considered, many people
are opting to use renewable green energy resources. Green energy, although still controversial, is
quickly becoming the new trend. Plus there are many options available to those who decide to go
green, whether they use green roofs, high efficiency lighting and windows, or even solar panels. One
by one people are becoming aware that the benefits of these resources far outweigh its cons especially
when it comes to solar panels and films. In order to understand the benefits of solar panels, we must
first comprehend what exactly they are as well as how they work. For those who are not familiar with
solar panels, solar panels are forms of active solar power [which] harvest sunlight and actively convert
it to electricity (Cooler Planet 1). As for how they work, that becomes a bit more complex. In the
article How Much Could you save with Solar Panels, Cooler Planet explains the inner workings of
solar panels by stating that:
Solar panels are made up of multiple individual solar cells, which act as large semi conductors and
utilize large area p n junction diodes. When the solar cells are exposed to sunlight, the p n junction
diodes convert the energy from sunlight into usable

Skateboarding Vs. Longboarding
Skateboarding vs. Longboarding Everyone knows what skateboarding is and has an opinion on the
sport. However, not very many people know or have even heard about longboarding. Because of this,
most people just assume that skateboarding and longboarding are similar in sport and that the same
stereotypes of skateboarders can be given to longboarders. That is not the case at all. Even though they
may seem similar longboarding has its own unique attributes that set it apart from skateboarding.
Skateboarding and longboarding were both invented in 1959 as a way to surf in the absence of
rideable waves. They first called it, sidewalk surfing . These two styles of riding grew, except
skateboarding became a lot more popular. Skateboarders enjoy ... Show more content on

Longboards have bigger everything. The decks can be anywhere around thirty five to forty five inches
long. Skateboards are usually shorter, twenty eight to thirty two inches. Skateboards are also not as
wide as a longboard. Longboards tend to be around 10 inches wide while a skateboard is mainly only
eight inches wide. These differences in the deck give the unique uses for each. The smaller build of a
skateboard allows it to be maneuvered easily for tricks. On the other hand, longboards are built for
stability. Modern skateboards differ only in minor details like the brand or materials. Wheel size, deck
size, truck specifications, and deck shapes don t vary much. Longboards, however, have several
different styles of the decks, wheels, and trucks. Longboards can be built in deck styles such as pintail,
drop through, drop down, and speedboard. Along with the general style of a deck there are also
options for how the deck itself is shaped and built. Some aspects of unique longboards are the build
material, rocker vs. camber, concave, grip tape, and flex. Longboard wheels are unique in the
durometer and diameter of each wheel. Trucks can be positioned at different angles as well as being
outfitted with specific bushings to accommodate the responsiveness the rider desires. Each style has

Heroes And Heroines Of The War
AUTHORSHIP This specific document titled Heroes and Heroines of the War was created by Thomas
Nast in 1864. Thomas Nast was born on September 27, 1840 in Germany, but six years later his family
moved to New York to start a fresh life. Even from a young age, Nast was an avid drawer who later in
life would make his greatest ambition into an occupation. He began his career as a political cartoon
artist for the Leslie s Illustrated in 1855 and then in 1859 continued his passion of illustrating at
Harper s Weekly. His work as an artist made a profound effect on many individuals and impacted how
America pondered certain subjects. Nast was a dedicated northerner who believed the southern people
were enemies who did not care for anything else, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The unity of the nation would become the concept that would have thought to be the ultimate cause of
the war. The compact of different states built a strong interconnected nation. By producing this
document, Nast hoped to encourage both men and women to stand for the reconstruction of the unison
between the North and the South. His desire was to rally the northern individuals to take arms for
President Lincoln and fight with their fellow brethren. Nast hoped to inspire people to seek their
desires of joining the Northern army in some valiant manner to create an abundant and powerful mass.
He certainly focused on the campaigning of women to take up the role of a nurse or leader in
fundraising on behalf of the union soldiers. Heroes and Heroines of the War reflected the heart of what
it means to be a contributor to society. The men of the North gathered together to bear arms with one
another and fight for the reconnection of the nation. The image revealed the bravery of the men and
the further need of assistance to win the battle. During this time period, women were considered to be
the nurturing and caring person in the household. The U.S. Sanitary Commission allowed women to
live up to their potential, but in a wider spectrum. Thomas Nast valued the compassion and the will
power that was portrayed in the Sanitary Commission. The document demonstrated the value of
women not just becoming a household concept, but spreading to a national level. People of this era

I have chosen to research (Polymorphic) Worm (detection) because I do not have any knowledge of
how it works, spreads or transfers. I question these types of malware or viruses and would like to
understand better how they work and if they could become terminal for our PC s. I clean my PC s via

I have started to do a little research already, and I am glad I have chosen this topic. By doing so, I will
be able to gain knowledge of the worm and its capabilities. As for the security community and is the
worm still relevant I would say yes continuous attacks happen every day. My last work location had ...

How obtuseness is detrimental to good order and discipline
So, I ve been tasked to find out what obtuseness is and how it is detrimental to good order and
discipline. I have never heard of this word obtuseness until today when I was asked what it meant. So,
once I m finished with this paper, I shall know the meaning behind this word and why it s so
detrimental to us in the military and civilian sector. This paper shall give the reader(s) an idea of the
meaning and how it affects the military s good order and discipline, why and how it effects the Navy s
mission, why it could affect the Pmts (Preventive Medicine Technician) mission and our health
readiness.
What is Obtuseness? Well obtuseness is a noun and has one meaning (1) the quality or state of lacking
intelligence or quickness of mind. Obtuse is an adjective and has two meanings, (1) lacking sharpness

Outdoor Cats Cause A Decline
Sub arguments are: (1) Outdoor cats cause a decline in wildlife. (2) T.N.R. is an ineffective treatment.
(3) Outdoor cats are a threat to human health.
Therefore, the main argument is: (4) Cats should not live outdoors.
Premises support (1): (5) Outdoor cats killed 2.4 billion birds annually in the lower 48 states. (6)
Outdoor cats also kill about 12.3 billion small mammals and about 650 million reptiles and
amphibians.
Premises support (2): (7) T.N.R. is generally not particularly effective at reducing feral cat colonies.
(8) It is a way for shelters to save their image instead of euthanizing cats.
Premises support (3): (9) Cats are more likely to carry rabies. (10) They also share parasites or
infectious microbes with humans. (11) Outdoor cats are the primary hosts of toxoplasmosis, which
effects around 30% of humans.

Sub argument (1): I perceive (1) to be a deductive argument as all the premises seem to be intended to
provide conclusive support for the conclusion. (5) and (6) both provide statistical support for (1),
claiming that outdoor cats killed about 2.4 billion birds a year in the lower states and 12.3 billion
small mammals, as well as 650 million reptiles and amphibians. The use of these figures appear to
have been included to conclusively support the claim that outdoor cats cause a decline in wildlife.

10 Communication Secrets
In 2012, Forbes Magazine revealed 10 communication secrets but I may borrow 8 in carrying out
discussions/ face to face meetings with executives:
1. Speak openly This would also require setting out a plan on the issues that need to be addressed
primarily. Perhaps by creating an agenda, it would keep the conversation on track. Building trust and
rapport would begin then as members have to be able to feel comfortable. At this point, choosing the
right meeting venue is helpful. Somewhere calm yet inviting but where ideas can be exchanged,
recognition given or loud, enthusiastic conversations can occur. I may reserve a meeting room or
utilize an office space during a less than heavy traffic flow period. I can find out which meeting rooms
or group rooms are assigned to the organization. In the College of Business at Grambling State
University, most of its departmental groups, that is, AMA, Management Club, NABA are assigned
office space in the building which have become a room for executive meetings and carrying out group
projects. It also helps the stability of the group and established recognition for the organization. Make
sure to check with the Office of Student Affairs/ Activities if any such rooms are available on another
campus.
2. Get Personal To build rapport, a dialogue and true discussion needs to take place. I cannot control
the entire meeting without letting the members get a word in. Although having a monologue may be

Dear Mr. Palfrey:
When a police officer takes the oath, he or she must exemplify what it means to wear the badge: to
serve the community, to be a friend. When a police officer puts his uniform on for the day, the last
thing he wants is for the public to have a negative connotation of him or her. A police officers has one

Sensationalist journalism during events that took place between police and people like Freddie Gray,
and Michael Brown have sowed stronger feelings of resentment towards police and feel that police are
not there to help. Minorities feel as if the police are discriminatory towards them, and are more willing
to send them to jail over nothing. Nonetheless, there is hope to turn relationships between police and
the citizens Camden, New Jersey around. Research has shown that by putting body cameras on police
officers, that the public and police officers themselves are more willing to interact and approach each
other outside of emergency calls.
Marketing this change is also important. By marketing this change, citizens will have a more positive
experience and more knowledge about the program. By holding town hall meetings and engaging
citizens in the street, people will be able to gain the proper information about body cameras and have
their questions answered. This proposal includes several models of success and suggestions from the
University of Cambridge, United States Department of Justice, and the Journal of Quantitative
Criminology. We can use these studies as models of success for a similar plan to be implemented here

They Feed Lion
In poetry, one of the most powerful literary tools is the metaphor. It allows an author to add dimension
to the topic of their writing, in comparing their focus to something creative. This idea is true for Philip
Levine in his work, They Feed They Lion. The metaphor of a lion provides additional insight into
Levine s stance on the topic of his poem. In They Feed They Lion by Philip Levine, the use of a
metaphor of a lion is used to demonstrate the potential power a group of discriminated individuals can
have, once they allow all that has wronged them to motivate them to act. This metaphor is especially
topical due to its reflection of race issues that were pertinent during the time period when Levine
completed this poem. From one s first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Specifically, the pattern and frequency in which a lion roars. A lion roars only a few times a day; it is
not something that happens very often. Rising up and acting upon injustice is also something that is
infrequent. However, once both of these actions happen, they are difficult to ignore and not easily
forgotten. At some point, a lion must let out and roar, just as the discontent and mistreatment of a
group of people will eventually erupt into an uprising. Additionally, the anticipation of the roar can
garner a variety of different reactions, depending on the perspective of the person. These reactions are
often border lining on both fear and excitement. Similarly, these reactions are also common when
groups of people or individuals act upon their feelings of unrest. This is evident in the tone of the
poem. The quick and separated rhythm adds an underlying feeling of tension and anxiety as the reader
waits for They Lion to do more than grow. Also the idea that Levine refers to a lion as they lion,
referring to it as plural, indicates that the lion is representative of a group of individuals. A group of
individuals which looking at this poem through a historical context, can be identified as African
Americans who participated in race riots in detroit during the

from conducting an action research project in a group versus completing a project alone. During our
program we learned about allowing for different formats during assessment or classroom activities.
Therefore, I believe that some students may have preferred working with a group on such a significant
project. The fact that students would be allowed to work with people from different backgrounds and
with different personality types to complete a project would equate with real world experience. The
opportunity to work with people is why the practicum is such a valuable experience. However, one

Canadian Minister And The Canadian Prime Minister
From 1896 to 1911 Sir Wilfrid Laurier served as the Canadian prime minister. This was a period when
Canada shifted from being agricultural to being proto industrial. It was also a period of tremendous
social and political tension in Canada. Laurier s ability to compromise between the French and the
English Canadians demands is what made him very successful and defined his time as leader. These
compromises are seen through the settlement of the Manitoba School Question in 1896, Canada s
participation in the Boer War in 1899, and the Naval Service Act in 1910.
Before delving into the study, some background seems relevant. Canada was originally a rural nation
predominately made of farmers, loggers, fishermen, and fur traders; however in the late 19th century,
the country saw a tremendous transformation of its society. By the early 20th century, the majority of
Canadians were living in urban towns or cities. They were also working in service industries for the
first time. Under the Industrial Revolution, the development of new machines saw a dramatic growth
in city based factory work while there was a reduced amount of rural trades. Canada s raw natural
resources were being processed into useful products such as lumber, textiles, and meat. As a result,
Canada became a more modern, and prosperous society than before. Under the 15 year leadership of
Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Canada pursued policies that created economic growth, and a rising standard of
living for almost everyone in

Essay on The Boondock Saints’ Positive Deviance
The movie The Boondock Saints provides an excellent example of positive deviance through
innovation. The Social theory of deviance can easily explain the brothers actions. The movie can be
used to study deviance as the brothers kill people who are mafia members, breaking the norms of
society. Even though the acts they are committing are clearly illegal and deviant, the people of South
Boston do not react in a negative way. Since the Social theory is very broad, it will be easier to look at
the brother s acts under three sub theories: Labeling, Conflict and Strain theories. The Social theory of

After the brothers kill the first two Russian mafia members, the community gives them the label The
Saints of South Boston . Because of the positive connotation of the label that they are given by the

the top members of the mafia to make the city more peaceful.
As they become better at killing the top mafia members, some of the citizens even go as far as to call

why they should stop. Instead they take it to the next level with the help of more positive labels, and
make it more of an occupation, they compare themselves to 7 11 as they are not always doing

one would approve of their acts. After the last scene of the movie, there are interviews with the
citizens of South Boston. During the interviews, most of the people are starting to give the brothers
negative labels calling them criminals. Since the labels are becoming more and more negative, the
brothers leave and go back to Ireland where they grew up. The Labeling theory is

The Role Of Imperialism In Ancient Rome
History has shown the rise and fall of civilizations throughout time. Throughout the ages man has
risen above the rest and then declined down to nothing. The idea that has stuck with man was the idea
to conquer and build and build a utopian city. The birth of imperialistic nations that grew from nothing
and into something formidable. Nations as old as Persia, Macedonia, and even Rome have shown
these views of imperialism as early as ancient times. In ancient times they were large civilizations that
once have been empires that controlled enormously large territories of land because of numerous
reasons.Even in 1858 when England owned India and when Japan went island hopping in the pacific.
Both of these nations demonstrated their power to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The aqueducts were gravity fed. Meaning that they had a slight downward slope in them to allow the
water to slide down towards Rome. When the aqueduct was checked by a surveyor every so often. The
surveyor would use a tool called a chorobates to make sure the slope contains its consistent five
percent to a two percent gradient. The structure of the aqueducts was revolutionary in architecture in
those times because according to David Macauley When the keystone was inserted in the center, the
arch was complete this was essential because the keystone allowed the weight to be evenly distributed
along an arch. This means the Romans would have saved more time and effort building arches rather
than complete wall like bridges. The Romans knew that these pipelines would be an easy target for
any invaders trying to cause Rome to fall. They build these water bridges at variable heights, but
approximately around thirty meters high. So Rome had these massive and long aqueducts running
through Italy, which is kind of amazing, but what really is astonishing his how they built the bridge to
go through hills. They had these hills traveling through the hills for primarily two reasons. First, they
already had the bridge started and the

on involvement in an organization if they take maternity leave ( Napikoski). In the end, it just may be
the fact that she never got all the companies policies out in the open, but one can be sure no one would
have told her raising a family would stunt the growth of her career.
Furthermore, My classmates offered other theories which could be seen as a contributing theory and in
the next several paragraphs, these theories will be broken down and discussed.
Attribution theory states that there are internal and external explanations for work family and family
work conflict. (King, 2005). This applies, because it explains that most of the internal reason go back
to our understanding of the traditional roles based on society s and our own individual perceptions.
Depending on you learned perception, it can be passed off as that s the way it is, in a naive way, or a
deliberate way, either way it applies to this situation.
Equity Theory, although her feeling of inequity did probably strongly apply in the end. This also
played a part in her departure, this was a result of the chain reaction of events, and not the main
theory.
For Robin to get to this point she would have had to pass through a multitude of stages created by

Understanding Thermal or Solar Heat Gain Coefficients
In order to understand the word thermal within a building, then SHGC which is solar heat gain
coefficients had to be known to known the property of thermal insulation and conductivity in a whole
manner. Solar heat gain coefficient is widely use in the United State in designing building. SHGC may
refer to the transmittance of solar energy of windows or even walls, every object can be evaluate by
using solar heat gain coefficient method by knowing the properties of each material. If a material have
high solar heat gain coefficient, then the material is a good absorbent of solar heat. For material that is
black in colour, inevitably it absorb heat faster because of the colour doesn t reflect the wavelength
that comes directly from the source of light. So, low e components of a building that comes with low
solar heat gain coefficient will reflect and keep heat source that came from sun away from the house
and that will probably makes a house cooler. Solar heat gain coefficient usually dealt with windows
that possess a low e property. Low e may regard to the emissivity of one s material. Nowadays
window mostly is transparent, and that makes it vulnerable for sunlight to penetrate easily into a house
without any reflection. We have to be notice that if a window is place facing the unsuitable direction
such as west or east, it will have an adverse effect towards the thermal comfort of a house especially
terraced house in Malaysia that cant undergoes renovation due to the

Election Day, President Of The United States
During election day, millions of Americans are going to cast their vote for who they want to be the
next president of the United States. Except is a lot more complicated than it seems. The electoral
college is the collection of 538 delegates that have the power to determine who the next president will
be; the number of total representatives in the House and Senate. These 538 votes aren t given to the
citizen directly, but they are instead divided among the 50 states in America. Currently, people are
suggesting who their state should pick for president. Simply put, if a state has a majority of votes for
one candidate, (however small the majority is) that candidate gets all the electoral votes from said
state; winner takes all. So, a candidate must win over half of the voting population in enough states to
get the majority of electoral votes to win the election. But that s not all, these said electors aren t
nailed down to vote for who their state constituents want at all; millions of votes can be thrown in the
trash and forgotten forever.
Many believe the Electoral College s votes protect the states that have small populations from the
large populations states and in turn candidates will have to give more attention to small states. If this
was true, it is being executed horrifically. Candidates are visiting, advertising, and campaigning more
and more in swing states. In other words, the electoral college doesn t make candidates care about
small states, or even big states.

The Great Migration
Without The Great Migration, or the migration of African Americans from 1915 to 1970 from the
south to the north, the north would have suffered economically (Wilkerson 8). Specifically, without
the Great Migration, the north would have faced extensive job shortages, that would have eventually
led to economic turmoil. One cause of The Great Migration was the need for southern African
Americans to take industrial jobs in the north. Furthermore, during times of war, many men were
removed from the workforce, meaning that the north needed additional workers to fill the now vacated
spots. (The Great) The north needed the southern African Americans in order to fill these slots, and

their jobs. These jobs needed to be filled, along with the myriad of other jobs that were created during
the migration. Southern African Americans seemed to be a solution, as they were trying to get out of
their current situations, and the north needed workers. At times, northern companies sent recruiters to

While some of these jobs created by wars and by industrialization were taken by immigrants, this

immigrants were not being accepted at an extremely high rate during the Great Migration. Right

Symbolism In The Rabbits
The Rabbits The Rabbits, a picture book written by John Marsden and illustrated by Shaun Tan, is an
allegory for the British arriving in Australia and the subsequent colonisation. From the perspective of
the indigenous population, Marsden explores the impact of white settlement on the traditional
aboriginal way of life. This is achieved through the symbolism, colours and language. Symbolism is
used in many different ways to represent the colonisation of Australia. Numbats are a benign native
species and are used to symbolise the indigenous Australians who loved in harmony with the land for
more than 50 000 years, whereas rabbits symbolise the British as a destructive pest that devastates the
land. Towards the end of the story, kites are used to symbolise the stolen generations, the white kites

Rich ochre and shades of blue show the natural colours of the Australian land. As the story unfolds,
the colouring becomes dull. Colours such as sepia are used to show the life being drained from the
Numbats as their way of life is taken from them by the rabbits. By the end of the story, the pages are
grey and almost colourless to represent the smog and pollution the effect of the destruction that the
rabbits have brought. The language is quite simple, which represents the uncomplicated way
Aboriginals lived their lives by their own ways and tradition. Their tradition is evident through
phrases such as many grandparents ago, and old people warned us. This shows cultural difference and
respect for generational knowledge. By using words like brought and new , it s obvious that the things
the rabbits imported were causing damage, such as the pollution and illness. On the last page of the
book, a rhetorical question, Who will save us from the rabbits? shows how overpowered and helpless

While, on the poem, he returns to his homeland in Geats and becomes a king, but on the film,
Hrohtgar rewards him to be a king of Heorot and also marry with Hrohtgar s wife (eventough on the
poem, this part is not coming up with). In other case, a representation of Grendel in the poem and the
film has a bit differences. Grendel ,in the film form, comes up to Heorot and kill almost people in the
hall, but on the poem form, Grendel watches Beowulf as Hrothgar s coast guard and kill almost people
in the hall slowly. The differences also in the representation of Beowulf who is fighting with Grendel s
mother. The scene on the film shows that Beowulf is not killing Grendel s mother, but he kisses
Grendel s mother when he follows Grendel s mother till her lair. It is quite different when on the poem
form, Beowulf slays Grendel s mother in Grendel s lair. Back into the plot, the diffences also we can
see for the reason why the dragon attacks Beowulf s kingdom. There are two sources for the poem
which is differences from each other. First one is telling us that dragon attacks Beowulf s kingdom
because a thief distrubs dragon s treasure. The second is telling us that it is just happened, suddenly
the dragon attacks his kingdom. The scene on the film shows that Beowulf comes into lair of Grendel

Use Of Neuroticism On Self Esteem
The Affect that the Manipulation of Neuroticism has on Self Esteem. Life Satisfaction is rapidly
becoming a greater issue that is being researched and tested in countries all over the world. Positive
levels of life satisfaction is associated with positive personal, psychological, and social predictors

One s self esteem can change rather quickly depending on external situations such as your mood,
relationships with others, and your performance in different aspects of your life. A study was
conducted by Orth Luciano to research the correlation between positive self esteem and stressful life
events. Orth Luciano define self esteem as an individual s subjective evaluation of his or her with as a
person... self esteem does not necessarily reflect the person s objective talents, competencies, or social
status (Orth Luciano, 2015, p.708). Orth and Luciano tested the possibility that the possibility that
stressful life events influence one s self esteem but also the idea that self esteem influences the
possibility that stressful life events will occur. Self esteem is an important area of study to test how
vulnerable it is and how the strength of your self esteem can be affected either positively or negatively
by your personality. In testing the ability to manipulate self esteem, it gives insight into how easily
manipulatable one s self esteem is in an everyday life or situation. Sowislo and Orth conducted a study
to test the vulnerability of yourself esteem and how personality traits can contribute to the fluctuation.

Imagery Of The Negro And Its Powerful Effect On Black...
Destructive images and negative rhetoric became powerful representation of blacks that began to
disseminate across the world as early as the colonial years of settlement of the late 16th century. The
Negro s representation of being destructive and negative was by far the catalyst that fueled whites
with hatred for the African and these representations are considered powerful because it is the images
themselves that further made it possible to allow white people to justify the cruel treatment of the
Negro in America. Throughout history the Negro has also suffered from vagrancy laws, the black
codes, and Jim crow (segregation) but nothing seemed to compare to the black image of inferiority
that proved to be the most successful tool of propaganda within the institution of racism. Images such
as servile, primitive, and simpleminded just to name a few were used to degrade Africans and it is
these images that have influenced the dialog of the black leaders throughout history. My argument will
discuss the psychological effects of such negative imagery of the Negro and its powerful effect on
black leaders such as Dubois, Washington, and Woodson. The psychological effects of negative
imagery were powerful enough that many black activist and civil rights leaders in their responses
discuss the conditions of the black race that addressed such powerful representation that many negroes
conformed to. In the arguments of DuBois, Washington, and Woodson I will show how the negative

Alcoholics Anonymous And The Philosophies Essay
Alcoholics Anonymous and The Philosophies in Between:
Conflicting Philosophies Between the Original Twelve Step Alcohol s Anonymous Program and The
New Counseling Profession
Brandon R. McIver
University of Oregon
Abstract
This paper concerns the notoriously well known successful treatment program, Alcoholics
Anonymous twelve step program, and contrasts it to what would be referred to as a revised version of
the original program. Alcoholics Anonymous has been one of the primary sources of addiction
recovery in individuals for numerous years. It allows its participants, who are deemed to be part of an
international fellowship of both men and women alike, an opportunity to join in a camaraderie that is
self supporting, multiracial, nonprofessional, and conveniently available in a variety of locations. It
aims to let its participants share personal experiences and partake in a group atmosphere where the
lead counselor bans judgment. The fundamental values of Alcoholics Anonymous exist in the twelve
core steps that attendees are encouraged to follow in an effort to redeem control of their alcohol
addiction problem. Alcoholics Anonymous has been proven to change participants principal values
and assist them in changing their perceived outlook on life for an increased potential at living a
healthier and addiction free lifestyle. However, the twelve core values of Alcoholics Anonymous have
been challenged and questioned in an effort to

One goal is to expose children to reading, and the other goal is to help the children visualize what is
trying to be expressed in the book through the illustrations or pictures. Analogously, The Curious
Incident of the Dog in Night Time uses picture to help the reader visualize important aspects of the
book. For many adults, they think that pictures in a book are silly, but in this case it adds to the
disorder of this novel. Christopher explains, ... Mrs. Peters cuts round the picture with a Stanley knife
and then you put ink on the lino and press it onto the paper, which is why all the cars looked the same,
because I did one car and pressed it onto the paper 9 times (Haddon 27). Does the reader really need to
know the specific details of Christopher s card to his mother? Probably not, but it helps characterize
Christopher and show how his brain works. Many people may say that the picture takes away from the
order of the book, but it adds detail to the book instead. Another time Christopher uses a diagram is
when he is in the train station. Christopher describes his surroundings, But the train station in Swindon
wasn t like that. It was a tunnel and some stairs, and a shop and café and a waiting room like this
(Haddon 144). Immediately following this description was a map of the train station. Christopher s
autism is what causes him to visualize the map in his head. Lots of people would think it is imbecilic
to create a map like that in their heads. On the contrary, it is an advantage to have a map of your
surroundings because it may help in a time of terror. People who are unable to create a map in their
head are at a disadvantage, so they have the real disorder. Pictures and diagrams are a good; they keep
order in a world where life is in constant

My Best Day Essay
He looked at me and I didn t know what to think, he gave me that look. That look of sudden
disappointment, sudden regret. We sat at Blue Eagle Lounge at about 11:00 pm and he peered over my
left shoulder. He stared a little longer and then he ran. How? What have I done? Why do I ruin every
single good thing in my life? But then I remembered. I have done something terrible. Something that I
will never forgive myself for. Earlier that day. The man I had known but never had a conversation
with, came over my way. He had on baggy jeans with zippers at the pockets and lace up boots he wore
underneath his loosely fitted jeans. He had a t shirt on with a flannel over the top. His brown eyes told
a story. He had a voice that gave me a warm tingly feeling when he would simply say my name. He
made me happy and I know that this was a real happiness that would last a long time. The freckles on
his nose were direct mirrors to all of the stories he had. Stories of trips that made his family stronger
and his heart a little bigger. He was tall and had brown hair that was always perfect. He made me
smile and I knew he did not feel the same about me. I was falling for him and he wasn t there to catch
me when I landed. But there was something fishy about this boy, he had a secret, and I was dying to
know what it was. He seemed different when he was with his friends and different when he was with
his family and then a little different when he was around me. The boy was the type of person that

Pat Conroy s Memoir The Water Is Wide
Segregation in America has only just recently concluded. But during the writing of The Water is Wide,
the people of Yamacraw Island must infinitely live in their stagnant lifestyle of illiteracy, and
ignorance. The children from the island have received values and beliefs passed down from their
parents. In Pat Conroy s perspective, the government neglected Yamacraw Island and caused these
values and beliefs to remain in use. In the memoir The Water is Wide by Pat Conroy, the author
stresses the impact that segregation and national ignorance has on the people of a socially isolated
town on Yamacraw Island, South Carolina. Mrs. Brown, the first schoolteacher on the island, most
clearly demonstrates the theme of national ignorance. Mrs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Every so often, Mrs. Brown pokes her head in and attempts to steer Pat Conroy s teaching methods
back on course in her favor. Pat Conroy works for a revolutionary change in the students, while Mrs.
Brown s continues a heartless attitude towards the children. One day in class, Mr. Conroy tries to
collect the students prior knowledge. Pat Conroy peruses their psyche s by asking questions, starting
from moderately hard, then gradually decreasing to basic knowledge. He eventually decreases the
difficulty to one incredibly easy question to the normal American. For example, Pat Conroy relates,
What country do we live in, gang? Everybody tell me at once, I exhorted. No one said a word. Several
of the kids looked at one another and shrugged their shoulders (Conroy). This quotation clearly
demonstrates that the government almost completely neglected the students of Yamacraw Island. The
students cannot even comprehend the name of the land that they stand on, which focuses on survival
in the modern world. The title of the book, The Water is Wide, stands as an appropriate choice because
the small river exists as the only thing separating Yamacraw Island from the rich, fulfilled life of the
outside world. When someone crosses the river, everything taught to him or her becomes nonexistent
on this new planet called Yamacraw Island. The people of the Island live a completely different

Effects Of Stress In France Comcomlecom
Stress in the Workplace My reaction to the situation with France Telecom is that it is a tragedy, no
organization should be ok with any of their employees being stressed to the point of wanting to kill
themselves. Which reminded me of our previous discussion about job satisfaction. I don t think any
job is worth the stress that the employees of France Telecom had to endure, no matter how much
money the employees are making. I also thought, this is an important public/global health issue that
needs to be addressed.
What went wrong at France Telecom?
I believe there are more factors to consider than what was included in this case, but with the
information given, the internal factors were mainly poor management, such as the chairman Didier
Lombard. According to BBC news, Mr. Lombard announced plans to cut 22,000 jobs and move
another 14,000 workers, as France Telecom pushed for greater efficiency in the wake of privatization,
two years earlier. (N/A, 2016) This was the main contributor to the extremely high levels of stress the
employees were under. When deciding to make changes in the organization, the company was using
psychological pressure and pathogenic restructuring that caused the employees immense stress and the
feeling of insecurity in the face of globalization. They felt insignificant to the company and the way
they were pressured and treated created huge role conflict and overload. I believe that it is the
manager s job to make sure that the work environment is

Greg In Scripture
Greg then launches into the topic of prayer, he says, The Pharisees were caught up in repeating
ritualized prayers over and over again. They seemed to believe that the longer the prayer, the more
spiritual and pleasing to God. But God isn t interested in eloquence. Not at all. Prayer should come
from the heart. He isn t interested in how perfectly our prayers sound, or whether they rhyme, or
whether we throw in any King James English, or how long they are. He is concerned with how
genuine they are. One of the most eloquent prayers in Scripture comes from a man who said, God, be
merciful to me a sinner! (Luke 18:13). Now that is an effective prayer. That is a man who was honest
with God. He said what he was thinking and simply laid it out before the Lord. And guess what? Jesus
Himself said that man s prayer was heard. Greg then goes on to use the Lord s prayer as a guide to
show us how to pray. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Aristotle s Theory Of Falling My thesis is twofold: Aristotle s empirical arguments supporting the view that the earth is a sphere are not convincing ; however, his hybrid argument combining a priori and empirical claims based on his theory of falling succeeds in displacing Pre Socratic Cosmology and empirically grounding the creation cosmology of Plato s Timaeus. Aristotle inherited a tradition of cosmologies espoused by the Presocratics beginning with Thales, The Earth floats on water, which is in some way the source of all things (Kirk B13) . The tradition continues with Anaximenes, The earth is flat and rides on air (B13) and reaches a zenith with Parmenides, ...there is a furthest limit, it is perfected, like the bulk of a ball well rounded on every side, equally balanced in every direction from the center (Fr. 8 32 49). These three quotes identify two themes that Aristotle would face while developing his cosmogony: how does the earth maintain its place in the universe and what is its shape. Aristotle also labored under the imposing shadow of his teacher Plato who developed his cosmology in the Timaeus, ...he should fashion the world as a single whole... And he gave it a shape appropriate to the kind of thing it was... Hence he gave it a round shape, the form of a sphere... (Timaeus 33a b). Plato identifies the correct shape of the earth but he does not argue for this conclusion. Aristotle will have to ground this idea in empirical science not myth. The first step for Aristotle in On the Heavens is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Genetic Testing or Genetic Screening Genetic testing, also known as screening, is a rapidly advancing new scientific field that can potentially revolutionize not only the world of medicine, but many aspects of our lives. Genetic screening is the sequencing of human DNA in order to discover genetic differences, anomalies, or mutations that may prove pathological. As genetic screening becomes more advanced and easily accessible, it presents society with difficult questions that must be asked about the boundaries of science and to what degree we are allowed to tamper with the human genome. To better understand the potential impact of genetic screening on our society, we must examine the potential benefits in comparison to the possible negative impact it may cause. With this ... There are many reasons to support further research into genetic screening but unfortunately such a complicated and controversial field also brings up ethical, legal and social issues that need to be addressed. One of the greatest issues surrounding genetic screening is one of privacy and potential discrimination. Some people fear that a predictive test that shows someone is at higher risk of developing a particular condition can be used against said person. Employers could become interested in knowing the probabilities of their workers developing chronic conditions, which might lead to hiring discrimination. Genetic predispositions towards certain diseases could also be used to deny health insurance to some individuals. This may seem unlikely but it is an issue that definitely warrants concern. Brynne Stainsby s father was diagnosed with the gene that causes degenerative brain disorder, meaning she had one in two odds of developing Huntington s disease. When preparing to start her own chiropractic practice she learned that it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to get covered if she possesses this same gene. Simply coming from a family that was predisposed to Huntington s disease was enough to disqualify her from life or disability insurance. Many people find it hard to believe that such discrimination could occur in a country as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. St. Francis Dam Essay The St. Francis Dam was open for use in 1926, following two years of constructions. The dam was built in order to give the city of Los Angeles, and various other areas within the region a source of water. Though the dam itself had good intentions, faulty engineering design, and bad construction ultimately led to the untimely collapse of the dam on March 12th, 1928. After extensive research by various local, state, and federal investigators, it was determined that engineers didn t take into account or didn t care for safety measures of the dam. Since the St. Francis Dam was so profitable, many people including non engineering personnel intentionally ignored the obvious early signs that the dam was going to collapse. No one wanted to lose out on the economic prosperity the dam was giving. The dam itself was for the most part proven to be inadequate even before the dam itself collapsed. The personal who worked on the construction and the maintenance of the dam saw negative signs early on such as cracks in the dam, and leaks. Still, despite these obvious warnings, the engineers and personals ignored these issue. The negligence of these workers and their failure to report or take seriously the warning signs lead to the collapse. This dam disaster was extremely catastrophic, and lead to the death of some 431 people. After the collapse of the dam, many new pages of regulations and engineering code were implemented in order to prevent another collapse of this dam again. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Idea Of Contyping In The Real Ones By Jo Crayola Does accepting one s femininity mean having to put on a dress and wear makeup? Does expressing one s femininity mean having to get married, have babies and looking after the children and their husbands at home? The women today can be so much more without losing their feminism. There was a time when men are to hunt and gather food while women stayed at home and cooked and give birth and look after the children. Nowadays, women are as educated as the men and are able to hold any position that had been reserved for men. Women today are politicians, leaders of countries, professionals and even combat soldiers. Thus, they have proven that they are equal to any tasks. The only reason why they are lacking is probably because of social stereotyping. This is the reason why it is particularly important to empower femininity. It is easy to ridicule the idea of empowering femininity is because society already hold negative attitudes toward anything considered feminine. The poem The Real Ones by Jo Crayola cannot be too far off from reality when describing how society perceived a real woman or mother should be and how she should conduct herself. A female can only be considered as feminine if she does not wear a tattoo, grown a lap, and a husband and a hairless armpit . It is imperative that the world should move beyond this stereotyping to dismiss and demean feminine gender expression, and to truly recognise women for who they are. Society has to understand that female ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Richard Cory Poem Explication I chose this poem because the meaning of it can relate to so many people. Everyone has insecurities, but some of them do very well at hiding them and acting as if they don t care about what people think about those insecurities. But what lots of people don t know is that when others point out those insecurities, they go home and do things that makes the people who said something want to regret saying it. What I like about the poem is that the ending is so unexpected and deep. That is because he would say good morning and talk to the people. Richard Cory walks around his town, trying to strike up conversations with its townspeople, since he s lonely and wants to make a conversation to connect with other people. • 8. The Benefits Of Solar Panels In the world today, we have found that we are using up a great deal of our energy resources such as oil and coal. It has also become evident that our alternate sources like natural gas are not suitable considering the safety hazards involved with them. With these ideas being considered, many people are opting to use renewable green energy resources. Green energy, although still controversial, is quickly becoming the new trend. Plus there are many options available to those who decide to go green, whether they use green roofs, high efficiency lighting and windows, or even solar panels. One by one people are becoming aware that the benefits of these resources far outweigh its cons especially when it comes to solar panels and films. In order to understand the benefits of solar panels, we must first comprehend what exactly they are as well as how they work. For those who are not familiar with solar panels, solar panels are forms of active solar power [which] harvest sunlight and actively convert it to electricity (Cooler Planet 1). As for how they work, that becomes a bit more complex. In the article How Much Could you save with Solar Panels, Cooler Planet explains the inner workings of solar panels by stating that: Solar panels are made up of multiple individual solar cells, which act as large semi conductors and utilize large area p n junction diodes. When the solar cells are exposed to sunlight, the p n junction diodes convert the energy from sunlight into usable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, not very many people know or have even heard about longboarding. Because of this, most people just assume that skateboarding and longboarding are similar in sport and that the same stereotypes of skateboarders can be given to longboarders. That is not the case at all. Even though they may seem similar longboarding has its own unique attributes that set it apart from skateboarding. Skateboarding and longboarding were both invented in 1959 as a way to surf in the absence of rideable waves. They first called it, sidewalk surfing . (6) Outdoor cats also kill about 12.3 billion small mammals and about 650 million reptiles and amphibians. Premises support (2): (7) T.N.R. is generally not particularly effective at reducing feral cat colonies. (8) It is a way for shelters to save their image instead of euthanizing cats. Speak openly This would also require setting out a plan on the issues that need to be addressed primarily. Perhaps by creating an agenda, it would keep the conversation on track. Building trust and rapport would begin then as members have to be able to feel comfortable. At this point, choosing the right meeting venue is helpful. Somewhere calm yet inviting but where ideas can be exchanged, recognition given or loud, enthusiastic conversations can occur. I may reserve a meeting room or utilize an office space during a less than heavy traffic flow period. I can find out which meeting rooms or group rooms are assigned to the organization. In the College of Business at Grambling State University, most of its departmental groups, that is, AMA, Management Club, NABA are assigned office space in the building which have become a room for executive meetings and carrying out group projects. It also helps the stability of the group and established recognition for the organization. Make sure to check with the Office of Student Affairs/ Activities if any such rooms are available on another campus. 2. It allows an author to add dimension to the topic of their writing, in comparing their focus to something creative. This idea is true for Philip Levine in his work, They Feed They Lion. The metaphor of a lion provides additional insight into Levine s stance on the topic of his poem. In They Feed They Lion by Philip Levine, the use of a metaphor of a lion is used to demonstrate the potential power a group of discriminated individuals can have, once they allow all that has wronged them to motivate them to act. Additionally, the anticipation of the roar can garner a variety of different reactions, depending on the perspective of the person. These reactions are often border lining on both fear and excitement. Similarly, these reactions are also common when groups of people or individuals act upon their feelings of unrest. This is evident in the tone of the poem. The quick and separated rhythm adds an underlying feeling of tension and anxiety as the reader waits for They Lion to do more than grow. Also the idea that Levine refers to a lion as they lion, referring to it as plural, indicates that the lion is representative of a group of individuals. A group of individuals which looking at this poem through a historical context, can be identified as African Americans who participated in race riots in detroit during the ... The fact that students would be allowed to work with people from different backgrounds and with different personality types to complete a project would equate with real world experience. • 18. Canadian Minister And The Canadian Prime Minister From 1896 to 1911 Sir Wilfrid Laurier served as the Canadian prime minister. This was a period when Canada shifted from being agricultural to being proto industrial. It was also a period of tremendous social and political tension in Canada. Laurier s ability to compromise between the French and the English Canadians demands is what made him very successful and defined his time as leader. These compromises are seen through the settlement of the Manitoba School Question in 1896, Canada s participation in the Boer War in 1899, and the Naval Service Act in 1910. Before delving into the study, some background seems relevant. Canada was originally a rural nation predominately made of farmers, loggers, fishermen, and fur traders; however in the late 19th century, the country saw a tremendous transformation of its society. By the early 20th century, the majority of Canadians were living in urban towns or cities. They were also working in service industries for the first time. Under the Industrial Revolution, the development of new machines saw a dramatic growth in city based factory work while there was a reduced amount of rural trades. Canada s raw natural resources were being processed into useful products such as lumber, textiles, and meat. As a result, Canada became a more modern, and prosperous society than before. Under the 15 year leadership of Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Canada pursued policies that created economic growth, and a rising standard of living for almost everyone in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He explains how society persuades people that they are too skinny or too poor and will never be good enough. Not only does he describe the cons of social media, but he also justifies how social media can be a powerful device. The internet can be used as a platform that enables people to stand up for themselves. After reading this passage, I realize that I support the Dustin Kidd s main ideas. The Social theory of deviance can easily explain the brothers actions. The movie can be used to study deviance as the brothers kill people who are mafia members, breaking the norms of society. Even though the acts they are committing are clearly illegal and deviant, the people of South Boston do not react in a negative way. Since the Social theory is very broad, it will be easier to look at the brother s acts under three sub theories: Labeling, Conflict and Strain theories. Because of the positive connotation of the label that they are given by the media, they realize that the people living in the city would not have a major problem with them killing the top members of the mafia to make the city more peaceful. As they become better at killing the top mafia members, some of the citizens even go as far as to call the brothers Angels . With the majority of the city supporting the brothers killings, they see no reason why they should stop. Instead they take it to the next level with the help of more positive labels, and make it more of an occupation, they compare themselves to 7 11 as they are not always doing business, but they are always open. Without the labels that the media gives them, it would not be possible to continue on with their work of reducing crime. After the last scene of the movie, there are interviews with the citizens of South Boston. Understanding Thermal or Solar Heat Gain Coefficients In order to understand the word thermal within a building, then SHGC which is solar heat gain coefficients had to be known to known the property of thermal insulation and conductivity in a whole manner. Solar heat gain coefficient is widely use in the United State in designing building. SHGC may refer to the transmittance of solar energy of windows or even walls, every object can be evaluate by using solar heat gain coefficient method by knowing the properties of each material. If a material have high solar heat gain coefficient, then the material is a good absorbent of solar heat. For material that is black in colour, inevitably it absorb heat faster because of the colour doesn t reflect the wavelength that comes directly from the source of light. So, low e components of a building that comes with low solar heat gain coefficient will reflect and keep heat source that came from sun away from the house and that will probably makes a house cooler. Solar heat gain coefficient usually dealt with windows that possess a low e property. Low e may regard to the emissivity of one s material. Nowadays window mostly is transparent, and that makes it vulnerable for sunlight to penetrate easily into a house without any reflection. Except is a lot more complicated than it seems. The electoral college is the collection of 538 delegates that have the power to determine who the next president will be; the number of total representatives in the House and Senate. These 538 votes aren t given to the citizen directly, but they are instead divided among the 50 states in America. Currently, people are suggesting who their state should pick for president. Simply put, if a state has a majority of votes for one candidate, (however small the majority is) that candidate gets all the electoral votes from said state; winner takes all. So, a candidate must win over half of the voting population in enough states to get the majority of electoral votes to win the election. But that s not all, these said electors aren t nailed down to vote for who their state constituents want at all; millions of votes can be thrown in the trash and forgotten forever. Many believe the Electoral College s votes protect the states that have small populations from the large populations states and in turn candidates will have to give more attention to small states. If this was true, it is being executed horrifically. Candidates are visiting, advertising, and campaigning more and more in swing states. Destructive images and negative rhetoric became powerful representation of blacks that began to disseminate across the world as early as the colonial years of settlement of the late 16th century. The Negro s representation of being destructive and negative was by far the catalyst that fueled whites with hatred for the African and these representations are considered powerful because it is the images themselves that further made it possible to allow white people to justify the cruel treatment of the Negro in America. Throughout history the Negro has also suffered from vagrancy laws, the black codes, and Jim crow (segregation) but nothing seemed to compare to the black image of inferiority that proved to be the most successful tool of propaganda within the institution of racism. Images such as servile, primitive, and simpleminded just to name a few were used to degrade Africans and it is these images that have influenced the dialog of the black leaders throughout history. My argument will discuss the psychological effects of such negative imagery of the Negro and its powerful effect on black leaders such as Dubois, Washington, and Woodson. It aims to let its participants share personal experiences and partake in a group atmosphere where the lead counselor bans judgment. The fundamental values of Alcoholics Anonymous exist in the twelve core steps that attendees are encouraged to follow in an effort to redeem control of their alcohol addiction problem.
