Oceana Research Paper
The ocean covers 71% of the earth s surface, is a home to hundreds of different species of animals but
also provides food to millions of families all over the world. Recently is has been reported that the
amount of fish being caught has been decreasing due to overfishing and illegal fishing practices and
trawling by commercial fishing boats. In my opinion, our Ocean has the potential to provide food to
millions more people if start to make making changes now. I believe Oceana is leading the pack
regarding ocean conservation on a global scale. Oceana was established in 2001, and is the largest
nonprofit organization in the world solely concentrated on ocean conservation. What makes Oceana
stand out from other nonprofits like Take 3, 5 Gyres, Reef Check, SeaTurtles.org, is that they focus on
placing policies into effect into countries with little to no ocean conservation laws all over the world.
Oceana in my opinion really takes it to the next level with their dedication and persistence, which has
helped them win over 100 victories since the company was founded. One of my favorite projects of
2016 was a proposed rule released by The Obama administration to make it mandatory for Shrimping
nets to have Turtle Excluder Devices(TEDs). The device is composed of metal grates that are inserted
into the nets to allow sea turtles and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oceana has really made a difference in the legal aspect of ocean conservation, which is not always an
easy task to get change into place in many bureaucracies. The ocean has the potential to feed millions
of people if we put more proper fishing guidelines into place, and help restore fish populations. The
world population is expected to increase to 9.6 billion by 2050. If we continue this path without any
change the effects will be catastrophic for the ocean and for the human

Essay on The Turing Test
One of the hottest topics that modern science has been focusing on for a long time is the field of
artificial intelligence, the study of intelligence in machines or, according to Minsky, the science of
making machines do things that would require intelligence if done by men .(qtd in Copeland 1).
Artificial Intelligence has a lot of applications and is used in many areas. We often don t notice it but
AI is all around us. It is present in computer games, in the cruise control in our cars and the servers
that route our email. (BBC 1). Different goals have been set for the science of Artificial Intelligence,
but according to Whitby the most mentioned idea about the goal of AI is provided by the Turing Test.
This test is also called the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, its simplicity is one of the things that have made the Turing Test resist time and history. nbsp;
nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; The Turing Test has had a rich history since its creation by Alan Turing. But
first of all, who was Alan Turing? As Whitby notes Alan Turing was a superb British mathematician.
During World War II Turing worked in secrecy for the British military to break the German military
codes together with some other scientists using some machines that had some characteristics of the
modern computers.(12) After the War, a machine was built in Manchester from which all modern
computers are descended .(12) In 1948, Alan Turing was writing programs for this machine and was
also writing the paper Computing machinery and intelligence , published in 1950, from which the
concept of the Turing Test was derived later on. (Whitby 13). An important part of the test history are
the occasions of computers being tested and whether or not they passed the test. In the years following
its creation and until our days, many computers have taken the test. Turing made himself the
prediction stated below: I believe that in about fifty years time it will be possible to programme
computers, with a storage capacity of about 109, to make them play the imitation game so well that an
average interrogator will not have more than 70 per cent chance of making the right identification
after five minutes of questioning.

The Universalism Of Human Rights
Universalism of Human Rights Violated In recent decades, universalism of human rights concerning
abortions has emerged into the world that we know today. Many believe that human rights are
universal. Others believe that universalizing human rights do not even exist. Looking at the United
States of America, Africa, and Latin America, I have come to the conclusion that universalism of
human rights concerning abortions does exist in our world today. A study on how universalism of
human rights are violated reveals one challenge facing the world: universalism of human rights
concerning abortions in the United States, Latin America, and Africa. Is abortion a violation of human
rights or are humans a violation of human rights? In the United ... Show more content on

Therefore people have the right to protest wherever they feel the need to. That does not mean that the
people have the right to harass women who had or will have abortions. The Supreme Court ruled the
McCullen v. Coakley case on June of 2014. The McCullen v. Coakley case was thought of by a
grandmotherly anti abortion sidewalk counselor , Eleanor McCullen (Redden, 2014). The case
decision stated that Massachusetts abortion clinic 35 foot buffer zone law violated the First
Amendment because it limited free speech of broadly (Adler, 2014). Chief Justice, John Roberts,
argued that a painted line on the sidewalk is easy to enforce, but the prime objective of the First
Amendment is not efficiency (Liptak and Schwartz, 2014). Justice Samuel Alito, argued it is clear...
that it discriminates based on viewpoint. Speech in favor of the clinic...is permitted; speech criticizing
the clinic and its work is a crime (Starr, 2014). Nicole Clegg, spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood s
Portland office, argued that regardless of the decision, they remain committed to protecting the
privacy and safety of our patients and will work to ensure that women are able to make their own
health care decisions without fear of harassment or intimidation (Byrne, 2014). I personally feel that I
am liberal when it comes down to abortion. Most women who have, had, or will have abortions should
not be allowed to. Women who are having abortions are basically

Disparity Between Males And Women In The Education System
Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) job industries are clearly a
minority group as opposed to males. And each of these statistics above has been used to analyze and
raise awareness about the discrepancy between genders within STEM occupations. However, there
seems to be lesser research on the education system that feeds into these work opportunities. It is vital
to note that the disadvantage for women in STEM starts well before they enter the workforce; it starts
when females are young, and still within the educational system. Additionally, the disparity between
males and females in STEM extends much further than the educational system, into popular culture.
Young girls and women, growing up in a society that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because there is less opportunity to switch between STEM industries, and because individuals cannot
enter the STEM industries without a strong, targeted scientific background, it is key to focus on
developing an effective educational system to feed women into the STEM workforce.
Granted, it must be noted that there is a high rate of women dropping out of scientific industries after
having graduated, or having worked in the field. Research has shown that 38% of women who earn
engineering degrees leave, or never enter that workforce (American Psychological Association, 2014).
However, it is vital to keep in mind that this statistic is 38% of the few women who graduate with an
engineering degree in the first place.
Not only are there few women earning STEM degrees, but there are also few female and university
science teachers. A study reported that in high schools across the country, about 44% of science
teachers were females (Bottia et al. 2015). Although this number seems to be very close to 50%, the
study explains that this small gender discrepancies among science teachers have a profound impact on
the number of students who decide to pursue a STEM degree. And that high schools which have more
female STEM teachers, largely raise the chances of producing women who will

It was late evening when Humbert parked in front of the house. The real estate agent was waiting for
him on the lawn. Humbert got out of his car and walked over to the man. The dry ground crunched as
Humbert stepped on it. He also noticed that all the crickets sounded far away. The whole place seemed
kind of off and different than the rest of the nice town he had just driven through.
Hello, I m Humbert Smith, he introduced himself to the real estate agent. Humbert glanced down at
the agent s name tag. In sloppy handwriting was written: Adam Chadwick. He was a bald, overweight
man with a red, sweaty face. He didn t strike Humbert as a very likable person.

Are you okay? Humbert called out to the darkness. There was no answer. He frowned and decided to
go look for the man in case he was in trouble. Humbert reached into his suit pocket and took out his
phone. He turned it on and put the brightness all the way up to one hundred percent. He walked
forwards through the doorway which Adam had gone. Every step he took creaked loudly in the
silence.
There are a lot of spiderwebs, aren t there, Humbert said to himself, shining the light around the walls
of the hallway. This house was old, but were there really this many spiders? Humbert found a door
that had recently been opened judging by the lack of dust on the handle. The door squeaked open and
Humbert shone the light from his phone inside. He was greeted with a horrible sight.
The room was huge; the biggest room in the house. The walls were draped with webs. Everywhere,
like giant sheets covering the room. There were thousands of bugs stuck inside of the layers of
webbing. That was disgusting in itself but what really horrified Humbert was something much worse.
A giant spider was standing at the other end of the room. It was dark brown and was about the size of
Humbert s car. The arachnid clacked its mandibles and scuttled over to something. It was now
standing over a large bundle of webbing. The

Respect Essay
Respect Many people have different ideas about what respect means. I think it means having respect
for others, property, and respect for yourself. Most people want respect even if it is just a little. The
American Heritage Dictionary states that respect is 1. A feeling of appreciative, often deferential
regard, esteem. 2. The state of being regarded with honor or esteem. 3. Willingness to show
consideration or appreciation. People demand different amounts of respect, though not everyone is
willing to give the amount needed. Maybe this is because not every one knows what respect means.
The first rule is respect for others. A few of those others are teachers, police, authority figures, and
business people. Respect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This respect should be shown on every ones property including friend s, teachers, and even strangers.
The last rule is respecting yourself. Respecting yourself can mean holding your head up high and
respecting your own ideas. You can share your ideas even if you might not thing they are right. But it
can lead to more important things like peer pressure, and not giving into it. It is about not letting it
affect you in any way or sort. You can not have respect for others if you can not respect yourself.
There are many little things you can do to show respect. For example you can clean your room and set
the dishes. You can raise your hand when some one else is talking when you have an opinion. Don t be
afraid to share your opinions and ideas. They can be a good example for someone. Be a person that
another person would want to look up to. You can not be this person when you have a lack of respect.
You may not notice it, but respect plays a role in our daily lives. Respect follows you wherever you
go. Whether it is in school, your home, or in a restaurant. You may not notice it that other people give
you respect, but you do notice when they don t. Even for the simplest reasons. If you are not respectful
than you will not be respected. You can t DEMAND respect, nor make people give respect out of fear.
The scare will not work. You have to get respect by earning it. Remaining calm in bad situations and

Compare And Contrast Two Teacher And Montessorel
For this assessment I am required to undertake an essay on two educational theorists that if have
studied in this case the two educational theorists are Maria Montessori and Frederick Froebel. This
will involve an in depth evaluation and comparison of the two theorists under the following headings
their philosophies, their contribution to early childhood education in terms of their approach and
implementation and my personal thoughts on their approaches to helping the development of young
children but also in educating young children.
Philosophies
Maria Montessori approach had respect for children as individuals. She monitored the children s
reaction through their primary senses such as self confidence and independence and their natural
curiosity to learn. She observed in young children the situation she called absorbent mind. Children
learn from their everyday surroundings. The most important period of life is not the age of university
studies but the period of birth to age six . She studied that between conception to age four 50% of
mature intelligence is developed and from ages four to eight 30% is developed. in Montessori schools
the teacher in the classroom allows every child to pick activities which interest them [Montessori

She did not believe in testing children as it would damage and portray negative thoughts in their
minds. Children are in control of their own environments, which has dramatically prepared for them to
be stimulating, comfortable and to encourage independence by giving them the tools and
responsibility to manage its upkeep. This is a child centred approach. When Maria noticed that
equipment and furnishings were only suitable for adults she designed her own ones suitable for
children. Today they are used in all Montessori schools [O Shea,

Thomas Aquinas Fourth Argument
While quite a bit of Aquinas framework is worried about uncommon disclosure the principle of the
Incarnation of God s Word in Jesus Christ the Five Ways are cases of characteristic religious
philosophy (Vidali, 2017). The arguments are known as argument from motion, argument from
efficient cause, argument from necessary being, argument from gradations of goodness, and argument
from design (Lander University, 2012). The argument that has caught my attention and goes with my
beliefs is the argument from gradations of goodness. Aquinas fourth argument is that from degrees of
goodness. Everything display more noteworthy or lesser degrees of goodness. There must
subsequently exist an incomparable flawlessness that every blemished being approach yet miss the
mark concerning. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To summarize this argument there are diverse degrees of goodness in various things, there are
distinctive degrees of being in various things the all the more being, the more goodness, for there to be
degrees of being by any stretch of the imagination, there must be something which has being in the
most elevated degree, in this way, a being in the Highest Degree or Perfect Being exists (Lander
University, 2012). Thomas contends that to clarify the presence of this degree in being, there must be
something which is uttermost being (Thomas Aquinas: The Fourth Way, 2013). This is obviously
Aristotle s God, a being that is unadulterated fact. This being totally needs privation and probability,
and is as such impeccable in its being (Thomas Aquinas: The Fourth Way, 2013). I do believe God is a
flawless God with an outstanding and overflowing amount of goodness. God is a perfect

Strategies For A Successful Business
Customer needs There are three ways to start up a successful business: 1. Do something really new
and people want. 2. Do something that already exists, but do it better. 3. Do something that already
exists, but at lower costs. All of this of course depends on customers needs and wants also having a
good understanding of what existing businesses are supplying. Good customer service is vital to the
success of a new business. Also, lack of enthusiasm of workers will reduce customer satisfaction.
Using market research, a business owner can understand what customers are looking for. The starting
point for checking facts is secondary research finding out data that already exists; by using google.
Secondary research could include the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If they both satisfy the customer, it will most likely result in many customers buying that certain
product. o Improving quality consumers don t want something that is cheap looking, they want
something durable. o Offering wide range giving customers many options to choose from, e.g. Argos.
o Innovative products many people desire new products that are in fashion or trending. There is a high
level of demand for iPhones because the quality is excellent; there is a range to choose from (4, 4s, 5,
5c, 5s, 6 and 6+); with every new release, there is a new feature (innovation); the prices are
reasonable. Apple is competing fiercely against similar businesses to itself such as Samsung in order
to gain customers. Drawbacks of competition: o Increasing rate of unemployment Because businesses
have to cut costs in order to increase their profit and compete, the number of workers will be cut down
and this will mean that the business will lose skills and the workers will become unemployed for a
while before finding another job. Businesses are always looking for cheaper labour, in some countries,
people can be exploited for very little money and longer hours. For example in India, some people are
uneducated and are forced to work in factories where working conditions are poor; wages are
extremely low such as 17p per hour also working longer hours. This is very unethical and
controversial

The Imperfect Process Of Campus Sexual Assault Adjudication
The Imperfect Process of Campus Sexual Assault Adjudication It s a statistic that has circled around
the nation for years, one that imprints fear into the minds of young adults and rage into those that
demand justice: 1 in 5 female college students will experience sexual assault in the duration of their
college career (Clark), with only 20% of those rapes being reported to the police (Hefling). As a topic
that is so highlighted in American society, there is a strict demand for an organized, thorough
investigation that will result in justice served. Controversy regarding whether the colleges themselves
or the criminal justice system should adjudicate the punishment for these vile crimes has arisen; some
believe that as an actual crime, these assaults should be taken in a legal stance in order to serve justice
at its fullest extent. Others believe that determining punishment through the court system is too nerve
wracking for the victims and that by allowing colleges to do so is the only way they can avoid feeling
skepticism by the police, juries, or courts (Know Your IX). However, when juxtaposing the
capabilities of the colleges and the court system when it comes to the adjudication process, it is
evident that the courts are more competent in determining punishments for campus sexual assaults. It
has been argued that colleges are more equipped for attending to the emotional well being of campus
sexual assault victims. Title IX, a federal gender equity law passed in 1972

The Government Is A System Of The Dual Federalism
Federalism has numerous levels of government in which each of them have their own self governing
authority over some of the policy areas. It helps in balancing the power between the national and
subunit governments. Various forms of the government are being observed internationally, including
the confederation and unitary government. The Confederal government was the very first form of
government the United States had that is held under the Articles of Confederation; in which the states
hold the authority over a limited national government. The most common form of government
throughout the world is the unitary government in which the national and centralized government
holds the ultimate authority. If there was no form of federal government, each individual state would
face problems that may affect multiple states. This would lead a central government to come up with a
mutual solution that would be beneficial to all the states across the nation or to the ones that need it
most. Some scholars believe that the American government is a system of the dual federalism. This
simply means that the national and state governments have control over unique spheres of policy.
Others believe it to be a shared or cooperative federalism in which means that both the governments
work together in all areas of the policy, or supply their services to the citizens. The balance of power
between the states and the federal government of the United States constantly shifts back and forth

Classic Vehicle Valuation
What Can You Do to Increase Your Classic Vehicle Valuation? It s a beautiful morning and you re
polishing up your Carmen red 1961 Jaguar E Type for your afternoon ride. You love her 3.8 litre,
double overhead camshaft 6 cylinder, 265 bhp engine, that sounds just right after having her serviced
in the loving hands of your most trusted mechanic. But could your mechanic have repaired something
that could negatively affect the valuation of your vehicle? The answer may surprise you. A classic car
isn t just expected to be running. Let s look at the top 5.5 things you can do to ensure your classic
vehicle continues an upward valuation. 1. Parts When your vehicle was manufactured, the parts were
all original factory pieces. Often when we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Exterior We re not trying to be superficial here, but it s true, they don t make them like they used to.
The exterior of your car should be as close to the original as possible with as few (modern) aesthetic
modifications as possible. They re gorgeous in their original form and collectors/hobbyists are looking
for original beauty. 5. Mechanics This is relatively obvious, but we want a classic car that works... like
it did in its heyday. One of the biggest contributors to overall classic car value is the operation of the
engine, transmission, steering, the state of the undercarriage and the, of course, general wear and tear
such as mileage. 5.5 Original Documentation This doesn t necessarily guarantee an increase in value
but simply because of how rare it is to have the original showroom documentation for classic vehicles,
it does tend to be in the very least a cool addition to the vehicle s history and authenticity. All these
things contribute to a category rating used to determine the value of your classic car. You should check
with your insurance provider to see whether there has been an increase in value of your prized
possession. The chances are, because we re dealing with classics, each year or every other year, there
may be an adjustment in the valuation of your vehicle. Happy

Guglielmo Marconi s Impact On Society
Hello, everyone, I m Jacob Ellis, reporting for WBUC. In the entire scope of broadcasting very many
people had a very large impact, but no one had more of a lasting impact than the father of wireless,
Guglielmo Marconi. Marconi created the largest piece in the puzzle that created broadcasting. Without
his invention, our life would be completely different than it is today. We wouldn t have Radios,
Televisions, Phones, WiFi, etc. All of the modern forms of wireless came from Marconi s original
form of wireless and were created because of his original invention. His wireless was mainly used for
radio but wasn t strong enough to be broadcasted very far which led people to find ways to better the
transmission of wireless devices, leading them to create new forms of wireless, ... Show more content

Even though Marconi s invention was used very much for communication, a big part of it was
entertainment. Wireless was used for radio at first but when television was invented people began to
see even more and more uses for wireless. Wireless allowed people to get local TV stations using
nothing but a Television and an antenna, allowing almost anyone to own and watch TV. This lead to
many television events being seen by millions of people. An example of this was the Kennedy
assassination. Since wireless allowed almost anyone, anywhere to own a tv, millions of Americans
were able to get the news very quickly that Kennedy had been shot and it allowed them to grieve with
the rest of the United States. Another way that wireless affected people was communication. Wireless
allowed people to communicate over long distances, so people were able to share information without
wires and telegraph stations, and in places that couldn t have wires. This proved itself as very helpful

Monkey Wrench Gang Summary Essay
The Monkey Wrench Gang
By Edward Abbey
I read The Monkey Wrench Gang by Edward Abbey. The book is 421 pages, and was published by
Lippincott Williams amp;Wilkins in 1975. It is a fictional story about a group of four people who
meet, and all want the same thing. To stop development on America s southwest.
Edward Abbey s purpose in writing this book was to raise awareness about what is happening to, quite
literally, our back yard. This book takes place in the southern Utah and Arizona, and is told in 3rd
person, but not following any one specific character. It switches which character you are following
throughout the story. The main characters are George Hayduke, Bonnie Abbzug, Doc Sarvis, and
Seldom Seen Smith.
The book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hayduke used the winch on his Jeep to lower himself and his Truck off the overhanging cliff. Towards
the end of the book, Forest rangers arrest a sleepy Seldom Seen Smith because he stole some camper s
hamburger, and they thought he was Rudolf the Red. Next chapter, Hayduke was on a 500 foot cliff,
over a huge flood happening in the river below, and Love, as well as a bunch of police had him pinned
down. Hayduke hid out in a crevice for over 6 hours while Love and his men waited for him to
surrender, or shoot. Eventually they see what they think is Rudolf the Red emerging from the crevice
with a rifle and they all open fire. What they believe to be Rudolf is literally pushed of the edge with
the bullets and never found. In the last chapter, the rest of the gang is playing a poker game when Doc
Sarvis gets an unexpected visit from Hayduke, who somehow survived, and wants to finish their initial
job, destroying Glen Canyon dam.
I believe that Abbey did achieve his purpose with this writing. The book has so much emotion, and
detail about the beauty of this place that it s hard to think that he didn t. The book was very interesting,
as well as powerful. It was a difficult read at times, but it kept me interested and wanting to read. A
weakness of this book is that back grounds to some of the events were not explained fully. Some
strengths are that it s a very interesting and moving reading and

Isis-Aphrodite Research Paper
In 30 BCE, Egypt became a province of Rome. A devastating military defeat at the Battle of Actium
caused the fall of Egypt s Pharaohs and on a larger scale, the rise of the Roman Empire. With any
great changes in society come a massive change in expression, and the art of Roman Egypt is certainly
a prime example. The artistic canons and subjects of Ancient Egypt that had lasted millennia suddenly
change and are eventually replaced by Rome s. In this paper I will discuss the merging of the two
cultures and artistic styles. Isis Aphrodite is an amalgam of two goddesses and two art styles. As her
name implies she is a combination of Isis, the Egyptian goddess of motherhood, and Aphrodite, the
Roman goddess of fertility, beauty and love. This combination makes her the ultimate mother goddess,
representing both fertility and being a mother. She dates from the Roman Period, around 200 CE, and
was made in Egypt. The piece stands at the respectable height of 19 ½ inches tall and 4 15/16 inches
wide, and is made of white engobe, a type of slip with a little more filler than usual. The details are
painted with brown, black, pink and red terracotta. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A similar work to Isis Aphrodite is the Statuette of Isis Fortuna. It is another mixture of Egyptian and
Roman Goddesses from the second century, though this piece is actually from Rome. This sculpture is
much smaller at only 4 3/16 inches and is made of bronze. It is also seen wearing a calathos with Isis s
horn and disk symbol, though this one s crown is not nearly as exaggerated. Her dress features the
Tyet on the front. She holds in her right hand the rudder that represents Fortuna s control over human
lives, and a cornucopia of prosperity in her left. Fortuna is a Roman fertility goddess who controls the
fates of individuals and cities. Because Fortuna is another fertility goddess along with Aphrodite,
combining her with Isis seems

Since the open ended questions in the WTAP News questionnaire can have an infinite number of
answer, identifying similarities is the goal. Coding provides identification for specific themes in the
data. Individual responses will be listed then consolidated into exclusive numeric codes for each
specific category. Each code will illustrate each possible outcome by categorizing answers through
similarities. Data entry for closed ended questions will be simpler, because only three of the questions
were open ended. Most patterns can be realized through the closed ended questions. Time can be
saved and biased can be removed by analyzing each individual response and categorizing them by
identifying patterns and giving them codes. Open ended questions can be coded and filtered to be
analyzed as well through similarities. Coding is important, because results can be more easily checked
through subgroups than individual answers per respondent.
Once codes are set, the next step is to enter the numeric codes. Individual responses should be
consolidated into the numeric codes in order to make the results easier to analyze. The codes would be
entered into a computer and then analyzed by a data entry operator. Intelligent data entry is a popular
method used to analyze patterns. Skip patterns, invalid codes, or violations can be identified through
this process. Through this

Detrimental Effects Of Ocean Acidification
A burden which lays on the shoulders of today s man is that of climate change, namely, global
warming. However, this evil has many ignored byproducts, some which are equally detrimental. In
this thesis, we will write about the effects of one of the greatest of this, ocean acidification, known as
global warming s equally evil twin .
When scientists first discovered ocean acidification, they thought that it might be a good thing for
mankind, a helping hand in the war against excess carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. You see, ocean
acidification is essentially the process in which our oceans absorb atmospheric carbon dioxide,
gradually (although becoming faster) making our ocean more and more acidic. So when scientists

Gst Reform Case Study
The Grattan Institute s proposal to broaden the base and increase the rate of the goods and services tax
(GST) is rooted in principles of economic rationalism that fail to sufficiently consider political and
pragmatic concerns. Comprehending the manner in which policy networks in Australia have evolved
in recent decades is crucial towards placing the Grattan Institute s role into context as the
identification of key actors and political groups in this debate otherwise would be opaque. Issues of
constitutionality and political controversy naturally arise when considering this far reaching reform
due to pressures that the GST impose on the very essence of federalism and power in Australia. The
advantages of reforming the GST are largely derived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The heuristic and iterative approach of the policy cycle suggests that proposals to amend the GST
appear to be languishing during its early phases. Of the eight distinct segments that comprise the
policy cycle, it seems that the government has so far only progressed through the first four: the
identification of the issue, policy analysis, policy instruments, and consultation. The government has
certainly advanced to at least the second stage of the policy cycle as the Department of the Treasury
(2016, p. 1) has publicly released economic modelling asserting [a] tax mix switch involving income
tax cuts and increasing the GST to 15 per cent would deliver negligible GDP gains. Whilst it is
debateable as to whether the government can be considered as having entered the consultation phase,
the presence of numerous public comments on GST reform by Liberal Party Members of Parliament
indicates that the party room has likely discussed the topic in at least a peripheral sense. However, the
policy cycle does possess serious limitations that detract from its ability to serve as an effective prism
through which to judge government movement on the GST. A powerful criticism of the cycle is that it
ignores the role that non ministerial, non major party parliamentarians play in shaping the course of
public policy,

George Washington Code Of Honor Essay
George Washington towered over men with decorum. Men followed him, not out of fear but out of
respect and admiration. Washington was not a loquacious orator, but his silence spoke volumes. When
he spoke, briefly but authoritatively, others listened. They knew he meant what he said because of his
code of honor both on and off the battlefield. It was this code of honor that made him a successful
general and an even more successful President of the United States.
On February 22, 1732 (February 11, 1732 in the British defective calendar ), George Washington
inconspicuously entered the world in Westmoreland County, Virginia (Alden 2). Not part of the British
elite, his ancestors settled in the colonies from Britain and prospered with farming and tobacco
plantations. George Washington was just eleven years old when his father died. He received only local

CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION Pneumonia is one of the most common infectious diseases prevalent
nowadays and affects all ages. It is an acute or chronic infection of one or both lungs caused by
microorganisms, such as viruses, bacteria or chemical irritants. (Schmitt, 2011) It has different types,
and one of them is Community Acquired Pneumonia (CAP). CAP is a disease in which individuals
who have not recently been hospitalized develop an infection of the lungs. It occurs because the areas
of the lung which absorbs oxygen (alveoli) from the atmosphere become filled with fluid and cannot
work effectively. (Makati Medical Center, 2012) There are many causes of pneumonia, including

Sahira Younas In the two sonnets, Remember by Christina Rossetti and The Cross of Snow by Henry
Wadsworth Longfellow, the authors address death and remembrance indicating similarities when
exploring grieving process but also demonstrate its differences through literary techniques. They both
utilized symbolism, imagery, and metaphorical language but showed differences in tone. Christina
Rossetti and Henry Longfellow utilized symbolism to signify ideas and qualities by giving them
symbolic meanings that guides the reader to understand the poem as a whole. In Remember , the poet

An angel is pure, bright, and serene. The halo pale light (line 4) accurately tells the reader that it is not
an obnoxious light rather, it is a tolerable light. The poet wants to show that the wife of the speaker
symbolizes divine purity. Another thing the two sonnets share is metaphorical language; it used to
imply a comparison between two things that are unrelated but share some common ground. Christina
Rossetti establishes an idea of metaphorically remaining alive through remembrance. The
juxtaposition in line 1, Remember me and gone away implies that the poet suggests that the memory is
the last thing a person has that still ties them to life. Henry Longfellow utilizes metaphorical language
when he compares a tangible object to emotions. He includes, There is a mountain.../that.../displays a
cross of snow upon its side. / Such is the cross I wear upon my breast (lines 9 12). The image of a
mountain that bears a cross shape filled with snow manifests an image of the angelic figure going
towards heaven. Longfellow purposely used a mountain to further implicate religious ideas; the height
of the mountain shows that is closer to heaven because it is going upward. The snow symbolizes the
wife and that she is on the peak of the mountain, reaching towards heaven. He wears the pain of the
loss of his wife on his chest because she is within his soul. There are contrasting tones that each of the
poets give to the

In the beginning, there was only a mass of Chaos but over time this mass begin to separate. The lighter
more translucent parts ascending to form the heavens while the heavier parts sank to become the
Earth. Heaven was given life and form while earth was still liquid and barren. The primordial gods
were not pleased, so they gave Izanagi no Mikoto and Izanami no Mikoto the task of giving Earth life
and form. The two accepted and were given a jeweled spear, Amenonuhoko, to assist them with their
tasks. The gods crossed the bridge between Heaven and Earth. Once on Earth, they churned the sea
with the bejeweled spear and created Japan s first Island, Onogoro from the salt water still remaining
on the blade. The gods built their home there Once Onogoro was formed, Izanami and Izanagi wished

Shoemaker and the Tea Party Essay
Throughout history, historians have spun events in order to alter and adjust others views on the event.
This is especially true during Colonial times and the time leading up the American Revolution. During
this time, information about the colonist s events was passed on through word of mouth. One such
man that was notorious for this was George Robert Twelves Hewes. Hewes was a Boston shoemaker,
who at the age of twenty eight witnessed four of his closest friends shot to death by The British red
coats; he also participated in many of the key events of the Revolutionary crisis.1 Hewes recollections
of the events that took place were passed along in the monograph The Shoemaker and the Tea Party:

He also dragged on with long digressions in order to add to the story.6He biggest mistake was not
knowing enough about the Revolution in order to accurately portray Hewes. This made him portray
Hewes with the same virtues of Benjamin Franklin and a selfless patriot. On a positive note, he
allowed Hewes to add his own feelings and ideas into the bibliography, thus, creating a simplistic and
truthful story. On the contrary, Thatcher embellished and falsified dialogue in order to add to Hewes s
story. He would regularly add anecdotes about Hewes s youth and the revolution that were more than
likely fabricated. Thus, Hatchers portrayal, while fuller than Hawkes s, is also more flawed. Both
authors took an average Joe and made him into a radical figure.
Others have also chosen to alter the character of Hewes, even in a painting. The painting, which
ordered by John Davis, president of the Massachusetts Historical Society and United States Attorney
at law, depicted only one side Hewes. When the painting was finished it was hung in the Boston
Athenaum described as a place of fashionable resort. Although the painting of Hewes was a nice
gesture, it failed to show both sides of the story. He was a vital figure in the events leading up to the
American Revolution but he was also a shoemaker for his entire life, which the portrait failed to
portray. Additionally, the portrait failed to portray the real life characteristics of Hewes. For example,

Analysis Of Country Lovers By Nadine Gordiminer

ENG 125 Introduction to Literature

2 October 2014
Comparing Racism and Ethnicity in two literature works, Country Lovers and What it s like to be a
Black Girl we can trace racism from the very first stanza of the poem What it s like to be a Black Girl
and the first paragraph of Country Lovers. In both cases the protagonists are black females who seem
to be facing racial discrimination.
Most societies have small elements of racial discrimination that can be condoned. In fact some
societies are used to racial discrimination. Racial discrimination is more pronounced in minority
communities where it is a recurrent experience. Many countries and states have enacted laws that
prohibit racism in its entirety, but the success of such laws depends on individuals who can either heed
from practicing it or just decide to be hard on others. The short story, Country Lovers written by
Nadine Gordiminer in 1975 best represents racial discrimination during colonial period. The story
revolves around two main characters Thebedi and Paulus. Paulus Eysendyck was a son to a white
settler while Thebedi was a daughter to a Laborer that used to work in Paulus father s farm. Paulus,
being the son of the rich white father had the freedom to play and interact with all other kids that lived
in the farm. But amongst many kids that he encountered, he developed keen interest in Thebedi. A

Uncontrolled Profanity Study
Uncontrolled profanity is found in many neurolinguistics disorders, the most famous is Gilles de la
Tourette syndrome (GTS). GTS, which was first identified by Itard and Gilles de la Tourette in the
1800s, is a hyperkinetic motor speech disorder characterized by frequent involuntary tics, which are
sudden pattern like movements or sounds. Though it is lesser known than Tourette syndrome, aphasia
can also heavily feature profanity. Aphasia is a clinical language impairment resulting from damage to
the language centers of the brain, usually following a stroke, but it can also come on slowly from a
slow growing brain tumor. The exact specifics of a particular aphasia depend on the location and
severity of the damage. Aphasic individuals have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, through childhood and adolescent trial and error they tested words to see where the line of
appropriateness is drawn in certain social circles. Neuroscientists from Weill Medical College of
Cornell University explored the brain to understand how profanity reverberates inside the complex
wiring of humans minds using the neuroimaging technique PET (positron emission tomography)
scans. By 1999, they found the amygdala, which is responsible for processing emotion and memory,
was highly active when exposed to profanity, But because the amygdala is also connected to the
memory function part of the brain, duplication decreases the activity. If a child grew up hearing people
saying curse words around their friends, the possibility of curse words shocking you in other social
circles lowers. In particular, amygdala activity is correlated with negative emotional associations.
Stimulating the amygdala can cause panic attacks and aggressive behaviors while destroying the
amygdala causes unusual placidness or fearlessness Therefore; it makes sense that the amygdala
would be activated in association with unpleasant words such as Profanity. The amygdala also makes
several connections to memory and association centers in the brain, which could also be responsible
for the increased memory skills when subjects are presented with

she would take the lead and help me. However, this was actually a new experience for the both of us,
as we never dealt with this type of technical issue before. While attempting to configure the task at
hand we simply used critical thinking to best equip the problem. I suggested the idea of finding the

Letters From An American Farmer
Primary sources like letters, drawings, engravings and other original documents play a great role in
learning and understanding history. Sometimes such document can tell us about the past even more
than a history textbook, because it has direct relation to the past and connected with the historical
period by the author s personal feelings, thoughts and memories about the past. In 1782 a French
writer Hector St. John de Crevecoeur published Letters from an American Farmer , where he put the
beginning to the famous idea of the United States as a melting pot of different nations and cultures
that harmonically mixed together and created a new American nation. The excerpt from the mentioned
Crevecoeur s work dipped me in America of post revolutionary period, when newborn and
independent country appeared and new nation was created, and gave an opportunity to imagine what
the idea of an American man was in the reflection of a new coming immigrant from Europe.
In Letters from an American Farmer Hector St. John de Crevecoeur appealed to the European readers
in order to tell them about new country and give them an idea of what was the man of the New World;
what were his values and principles. From the very beginning the author describes a member of a new
formed nation and mentions the new government an American man follows: He is an American, who,

Digital Art Essay
Digital art is a general term for a range of works by the artists who use digital technologies as a major
part of the processes of creation and representation (Paul, 2006). Specifically, digital technology refers
to the application of computers as media and partners for the artists in creating art works. However,
digital industry is often a vague term and does not clearly define the final form of the art work. In his

Example Of Foreshadowing Examples
Foreshadowing wasn t a huge part of this book, but the times that it was present it was a huge deal. A
prime example of this is with what happened with Jesse. At the beginning of the book, when Kate was
first diagnosed, Sara and Brian were talking to the doctor about combining their genes to make a
perfect match. Then Jesse asked if he was a close enough match. The doctor said no, his blood was
similar but his organs weren t the right type. Jesse just said okay as in he was just wondering and not
willing to donate. This was a fax that was easily forgotten because of the fact that Anna was conceived
and all the court drama happened. Then later when he was in the car with his mom, she saw the
bruises on his arms. I glance down and notice

Analysis Of The Article On Dumpster Diving
Black Friday and Cyber Monday are one of the best days for consumers in America, because
everything is on sale with an unbelievable low price. According to CNN Money, business made over
50 billion dollars in the year of 2013 after these special sales event in America. In these special
occasions, people purchase product base on the recommendation of the media. When consumers
realized that they have no use of the product or an improved new product releases, the old product will
end up in a dumpster. Americans will create environmental problem and outbreak of resource war if
they continue wasting Earth s source base on their lavish lifestyle, in which it is supported by their
culture and the lack of appreciation. In the essay On Dumpster Diving, Lars Eighner, as a homeless
person, used his own life experience as a dumpster diver to reflect on the wastefulness of American
society. Eighner states, ...although if I could I would naturally prefer to live the comfortable consumer
life, perhaps and only perhaps as a slightly less wasteful consumer owing to what I have learned as a
scavenger (88). He pointed out how Americans are not a consumer, but a waster from a scavenger s
perspective. The comfortableness of the consumer life makes Americans think that their wasteful
action is appropriate. Eighner also points out how American, specifically adolescents does not
appreciate the things that they possess. Americans are one of the luckiest people in the world because

Ten Days That Shaped America
1) May 26, 1637 The Mystic Massacre of the Pequot War On May 26, 1637, English settlers under
Captain John Mason, and Narragansett and Mohegan allies set fire to a Pequot fort near the Mystic
River. The fort only had two entrances, and anybody that tried to flee the fort was shot by awaiting
enemies. The only Pequots that survived were those who had followed their sachem Sassacus in a
raiding party outside the village. This attack on the fort almost entirely wiped out the Pequot
population and resulted in them eventually losing the war. As a result of this the 1638 treaty of
Hartford was signed, stating that all remaining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were the people that agreed with the Butler Act, and those who thought it was completely
absurd. As a result of this, public school teachers are now not even allowed to discuss religion in the
school, except for educational purposes. They are not to allowed to say one religion is bad, nor are
they allowed to say that their religion is better than others. This law still stands today.
8) July 16, 1939 Albert Eintstein sends his letter to Franklin D. Roosevelt urging him to explore
nuclear weaponry On July 16, 1939, at the insistence of Leo Szilard and Eugene Wigner, physicist
Albert Einstein sent a letter to President Franklin D. Roosevelt, warning the President of Nazi
Germany s scientific research of the atomic bomb. His letter would acknowledge Roosevelt of the
importance and the danger of this type of weapon in the hands of Adolf Hitler. Roosevelt immediately
created the Advisory Committee on Uranium. After some time had passed, Einstein was forced to send
another letter to Roosevelt because the government was not fully funding the committee because Leó
Szilárd and Eugene Wigner were both born outside of the U.S. and were considered possible security
risks. Roosevelt immediately ordered the government to give them the needed funds, and this brought
about the Manhattan Project. After realizing the bomb would likely be used, Einstein regretted sending
the letters to Roosevelt. Although a pacifist,

Aquinas Religious Values
Saint Thomas Aquinas was born in 1225, Roccasecca, Kingdom on Sicily, and died on the 7th of
March 1274, Fossanova, Papal States at about 48 to 49 years of age. He was a Catholic Priest and was
known as the Doctor of the Church . He was thought to be the church s best out of all its philosophers
and theologians. Pope Benedict XV stated that this Order had obtained a new light when the church
had declared the teachings of Saint Thomas, with the special praises of the Pope, to be the master and
patron of the Catholic schools.
There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship
This quote could inspire Aquinas College students to get to know more people in their community and
to get along with everyone. It could also inspire students to be more aware of the environment and
elderly in the community, like Saint Thomas Aquinas did. This is what Jesus was trying to teach us
too, as it is stated in the bible many times. This is My commandment, that you love one another, just
as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. (John
15:12 13)
My House Patron is Edmund Ignatius Rice. My house values are Courage and Compassion. Edmund
Rice used these values to help others that were less fortunate and to make people more aware of big
issues, like the lack of education most children had in those times.
To be Couragous and Compassionate to others like Saint Thomas Aquinas did.

The Movie Wit Essay
The Movie Wit In the movie Wit, English literary scholar Vivian Bearing has spent years translating
and interpreting the poetry of John Donne. Unfortunately, she is a person who has cultivated her
intellect at the expense of her heart. Both colleagues and students view Bearing as a chilly and
unfriendly person lost in her private world of words and mysterious thoughts. At the age of 48, she is
diagnosed with stage four metastatic ovarian cancer. Dr. Kelekian wants her to take eight high dose
experimental chemotherapy treatments for eight months. He warns her that she will need to be tough
to rely upon large reserves of inner courage and willpower. Vivian tries to remain tolerant as she
suffers through questions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Vivian has used her intellect and her dry wit as a shield to carry her through life, these are of
little value in the face of death. She sees her reliance to concepts and her apathy to others mirrored in
the actions of Jason Posher an ambitious clinical fellow working under Dr. Kelekian. He comes in and
out of the movie and seems to treat Vivian as un human. Throughout the whole movie he asks her how
are you feeling today Vivian, but the way he says it is so unfeeling and cold. At the end of the movie
when she is actually dead he asks, it just shows how much doctors really do not have any attachment
what so ever to patients in today s medical model. Eventually Vivian realizes that the chemotherapy
treatments have failed. She turns to Posner for comfort but he s unable to help. Late one night, she
talks to Susie her nurse, about her fears about death. They share a Popsicle in a precious moment of
deep intimacy. Susie carefully raises the subject of the options available should Vivian s heart stop,
suggesting she may want to have Dr. Kelekian note her preference on her chart. Vivian chooses to be
DNR (Do Not Resuscitate). Later, as Vivian lies in a near coma, Susie tenderly rubs lotion on her
hands. Small acts of kindness characterize her caring. Which just shows how caring and important
nurses really are in our hospital environment. At the end of the movie

  • 2. Oceana Research Paper The ocean covers 71% of the earth s surface, is a home to hundreds of different species of animals but also provides food to millions of families all over the world. Recently is has been reported that the amount of fish being caught has been decreasing due to overfishing and illegal fishing practices and trawling by commercial fishing boats. In my opinion, our Ocean has the potential to provide food to millions more people if start to make making changes now. I believe Oceana is leading the pack regarding ocean conservation on a global scale. Oceana was established in 2001, and is the largest nonprofit organization in the world solely concentrated on ocean conservation. What makes Oceana stand out from other nonprofits like Take 3, 5 Gyres, Reef Check, SeaTurtles.org, is that they focus on placing policies into effect into countries with little to no ocean conservation laws all over the world. Oceana in my opinion really takes it to the next level with their dedication and persistence, which has helped them win over 100 victories since the company was founded. One of my favorite projects of 2016 was a proposed rule released by The Obama administration to make it mandatory for Shrimping nets to have Turtle Excluder Devices(TEDs). The device is composed of metal grates that are inserted into the nets to allow sea turtles and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ocean has the potential to feed millions of people if we put more proper fishing guidelines into place, and help restore fish populations. The world population is expected to increase to 9.6 billion by 2050. If we continue this path without any change the effects will be catastrophic for the ocean and for the human ... • 3. Essay on The Turing Test One of the hottest topics that modern science has been focusing on for a long time is the field of artificial intelligence, the study of intelligence in machines or, according to Minsky, the science of making machines do things that would require intelligence if done by men .(qtd in Copeland 1). Artificial Intelligence has a lot of applications and is used in many areas. We often don t notice it but AI is all around us. It is present in computer games, in the cruise control in our cars and the servers that route our email. (BBC 1). Different goals have been set for the science of Artificial Intelligence, but according to Whitby the most mentioned idea about the goal of AI is provided by the Turing Test. This test is also called the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, its simplicity is one of the things that have made the Turing Test resist time and history. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; The Turing Test has had a rich history since its creation by Alan Turing. But first of all, who was Alan Turing? As Whitby notes Alan Turing was a superb British mathematician. During World War II Turing worked in secrecy for the British military to break the German military codes together with some other scientists using some machines that had some characteristics of the modern computers.(12) After the War, a machine was built in Manchester from which all modern computers are descended .(12) In 1948, Alan Turing was writing programs for this machine and was also writing the paper Computing machinery and intelligence , published in 1950, from which the concept of the Turing Test was derived later on. (Whitby 13). An important part of the test history are the occasions of computers being tested and whether or not they passed the test. In the years following its creation and until our days, many computers have taken the test. Turing made himself the prediction stated below: I believe that in about fifty years time it will be possible to programme computers, with a storage capacity of about 109, to make them play the imitation game so well that an average interrogator will not have more than 70 per cent chance of making the right identification after five minutes of questioning. ... • 4. The Universalism Of Human Rights Universalism of Human Rights Violated In recent decades, universalism of human rights concerning abortions has emerged into the world that we know today. Many believe that human rights are universal. Others believe that universalizing human rights do not even exist. Looking at the United States of America, Africa, and Latin America, I have come to the conclusion that universalism of human rights concerning abortions does exist in our world today. A study on how universalism of human rights are violated reveals one challenge facing the world: universalism of human rights concerning abortions in the United States, Latin America, and Africa. Is abortion a violation of human rights or are humans a violation of human rights? In the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore people have the right to protest wherever they feel the need to. That does not mean that the people have the right to harass women who had or will have abortions. The Supreme Court ruled the McCullen v. Coakley case on June of 2014. The McCullen v. Coakley case was thought of by a grandmotherly anti abortion sidewalk counselor , Eleanor McCullen (Redden, 2014). The case decision stated that Massachusetts abortion clinic 35 foot buffer zone law violated the First Amendment because it limited free speech of broadly (Adler, 2014). Chief Justice, John Roberts, argued that a painted line on the sidewalk is easy to enforce, but the prime objective of the First Amendment is not efficiency (Liptak and Schwartz, 2014). Justice Samuel Alito, argued it is clear... that it discriminates based on viewpoint. Speech in favor of the clinic...is permitted; speech criticizing the clinic and its work is a crime (Starr, 2014). Nicole Clegg, spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood s Portland office, argued that regardless of the decision, they remain committed to protecting the privacy and safety of our patients and will work to ensure that women are able to make their own health care decisions without fear of harassment or intimidation (Byrne, 2014). I personally feel that I am liberal when it comes down to abortion. Most women who have, had, or will have abortions should not be allowed to. Women who are having abortions are basically ... • 5. Disparity Between Males And Women In The Education System Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) job industries are clearly a minority group as opposed to males. And each of these statistics above has been used to analyze and raise awareness about the discrepancy between genders within STEM occupations. However, there seems to be lesser research on the education system that feeds into these work opportunities. It is vital to note that the disadvantage for women in STEM starts well before they enter the workforce; it starts when females are young, and still within the educational system. Additionally, the disparity between males and females in STEM extends much further than the educational system, into popular culture. Young girls and women, growing up in a society that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because there is less opportunity to switch between STEM industries, and because individuals cannot enter the STEM industries without a strong, targeted scientific background, it is key to focus on developing an effective educational system to feed women into the STEM workforce. Granted, it must be noted that there is a high rate of women dropping out of scientific industries after having graduated, or having worked in the field. Research has shown that 38% of women who earn engineering degrees leave, or never enter that workforce (American Psychological Association, 2014). However, it is vital to keep in mind that this statistic is 38% of the few women who graduate with an engineering degree in the first place. Not only are there few women earning STEM degrees, but there are also few female and university science teachers. A study reported that in high schools across the country, about 44% of science teachers were females (Bottia et al. 2015). Although this number seems to be very close to 50%, the study explains that this small gender discrepancies among science teachers have a profound impact on the number of students who decide to pursue a STEM degree. And that high schools which have more female STEM teachers, largely raise the chances of producing women who will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Synopsis Of The Movie The Great Gatsby By F. Scott... Webs It was late evening when Humbert parked in front of the house. The real estate agent was waiting for him on the lawn. Humbert got out of his car and walked over to the man. The dry ground crunched as Humbert stepped on it. He also noticed that all the crickets sounded far away. The whole place seemed kind of off and different than the rest of the nice town he had just driven through. Hello, I m Humbert Smith, he introduced himself to the real estate agent. Humbert glanced down at the agent s name tag. In sloppy handwriting was written: Adam Chadwick. He was a bald, overweight man with a red, sweaty face. He turned it on and put the brightness all the way up to one hundred percent. He walked forwards through the doorway which Adam had gone. Every step he took creaked loudly in the silence. There are a lot of spiderwebs, aren t there, Humbert said to himself, shining the light around the walls of the hallway. This house was old, but were there really this many spiders? Humbert found a door that had recently been opened judging by the lack of dust on the handle. The door squeaked open and Humbert shone the light from his phone inside. He was greeted with a horrible sight. The room was huge; the biggest room in the house. The walls were draped with webs. Everywhere, like giant sheets covering the room. There were thousands of bugs stuck inside of the layers of webbing. That was disgusting in itself but what really horrified Humbert was something much worse. • 7. Respect Essay Respect Many people have different ideas about what respect means. I think it means having respect for others, property, and respect for yourself. Most people want respect even if it is just a little. The American Heritage Dictionary states that respect is 1. A feeling of appreciative, often deferential regard, esteem. 2. The state of being regarded with honor or esteem. 3. Willingness to show consideration or appreciation. People demand different amounts of respect, though not everyone is willing to give the amount needed. Maybe this is because not every one knows what respect means. The first rule is respect for others. A few of those others are teachers, police, authority figures, and business people. Respect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This respect should be shown on every ones property including friend s, teachers, and even strangers. The last rule is respecting yourself. Respecting yourself can mean holding your head up high and respecting your own ideas. You can share your ideas even if you might not thing they are right. But it can lead to more important things like peer pressure, and not giving into it. It is about not letting it affect you in any way or sort. You can not have respect for others if you can not respect yourself. There are many little things you can do to show respect. For example you can clean your room and set the dishes. You can raise your hand when some one else is talking when you have an opinion. Don t be afraid to share your opinions and ideas. They can be a good example for someone. Be a person that another person would want to look up to. You can not be this person when you have a lack of respect. You may not notice it, but respect plays a role in our daily lives. Respect follows you wherever you go. Whether it is in school, your home, or in a restaurant. You may not notice it that other people give you respect, but you do notice when they don t. Compare And Contrast Two Teacher And Montessorel For this assessment I am required to undertake an essay on two educational theorists that if have studied in this case the two educational theorists are Maria Montessori and Frederick Froebel. This will involve an in depth evaluation and comparison of the two theorists under the following headings their philosophies, their contribution to early childhood education in terms of their approach and implementation and my personal thoughts on their approaches to helping the development of young children but also in educating young children. Philosophies Maria Montessori approach had respect for children as individuals. She monitored the children s reaction through their primary senses such as self confidence and independence and their natural curiosity to learn. She observed in young children the situation she called absorbent mind. Children learn from their everyday surroundings. The most important period of life is not the age of university studies but the period of birth to age six . The arguments are known as argument from motion, argument from efficient cause, argument from necessary being, argument from gradations of goodness, and argument from design (Lander University, 2012). The argument that has caught my attention and goes with my beliefs is the argument from gradations of goodness. Aquinas fourth argument is that from degrees of goodness. The Imperfect Process Of Campus Sexual Assault Adjudication The Imperfect Process of Campus Sexual Assault Adjudication It s a statistic that has circled around the nation for years, one that imprints fear into the minds of young adults and rage into those that demand justice: 1 in 5 female college students will experience sexual assault in the duration of their college career (Clark), with only 20% of those rapes being reported to the police (Hefling). As a topic that is so highlighted in American society, there is a strict demand for an organized, thorough investigation that will result in justice served. Controversy regarding whether the colleges themselves or the criminal justice system should adjudicate the punishment for these vile crimes has arisen; some believe that as an actual crime, these assaults should be taken in a legal stance in order to serve justice at its fullest extent. Others believe that determining punishment through the court system is too nerve wracking for the victims and that by allowing colleges to do so is the only way they can avoid feeling skepticism by the police, juries, or courts (Know Your IX). However, when juxtaposing the capabilities of the colleges and the court system when it comes to the adjudication process, it is evident that the courts are more competent in determining punishments for campus sexual assaults. It helps in balancing the power between the national and subunit governments. Various forms of the government are being observed internationally, including the confederation and unitary government. The Confederal government was the very first form of government the United States had that is held under the Articles of Confederation; in which the states hold the authority over a limited national government. The most common form of government throughout the world is the unitary government in which the national and centralized government holds the ultimate authority. If there was no form of federal government, each individual state would face problems that may affect multiple states. This would lead a central government to come up with a mutual solution that would be beneficial to all the states across the nation or to the ones that need it most. Some scholars believe that the American government is a system of the dual federalism. This simply means that the national and state governments have control over unique spheres of policy. Others believe it to be a shared or cooperative federalism in which means that both the governments work together in all areas of the policy, or supply their services to the citizens. Costs and Opportunity Cost Essay * Nobel Prize winning economist Ronald Coase noted, The cost of doing anything consists of the receipts that could have been obtained if that particular decision had not been taken. For example, the opportunity set for this Friday night includes the movies, a concert, staying home and studying, staying home and watching television, inviting friends over, and so forth. The opportunity cost of taking job A included the forgone salary of $102,000 plus the $5,000 of intangibles from job B. Opportunity cost is the sacrifice of the best alternative for a given action. One of the biggest contributors to overall classic car value is the operation of the engine, transmission, steering, the state of the undercarriage and the, of course, general wear and tear such as mileage. 5.5 Original Documentation This doesn t necessarily guarantee an increase in value but simply because of how rare it is to have the original showroom documentation for classic vehicles, it does tend to be in the very least a cool addition to the vehicle s history and authenticity. All these things contribute to a category rating used to determine the value of your classic car. A devastating military defeat at the Battle of Actium caused the fall of Egypt s Pharaohs and on a larger scale, the rise of the Roman Empire. The artistic canons and subjects of Ancient Egypt that had lasted millennia suddenly change and are eventually replaced by Rome s. Data entry for closed ended questions will be simpler, because only three of the questions were open ended. Most patterns can be realized through the closed ended questions. The government has certainly advanced to at least the second stage of the policy cycle as the Department of the Treasury (2016, p. 1) has publicly released economic modelling asserting [a] tax mix switch involving income tax cuts and increasing the GST to 15 per cent would deliver negligible GDP gains. Whilst it is debateable as to whether the government can be considered as having entered the consultation phase, the presence of numerous public comments on GST reform by Liberal Party Members of Parliament indicates that the party room has likely discussed the topic in at least a peripheral sense. On the contrary, Thatcher embellished and falsified dialogue in order to add to Hewes s story. He would regularly add anecdotes about Hewes s youth and the revolution that were more than likely fabricated. Thus, Hatchers portrayal, while fuller than Hawkes s, is also more flawed. In both cases the protagonists are black females who seem to be facing racial discrimination. Most societies have small elements of racial discrimination that can be condoned. In fact some societies are used to racial discrimination. Racial discrimination is more pronounced in minority communities where it is a recurrent experience. Many countries and states have enacted laws that prohibit racism in its entirety, but the success of such laws depends on individuals who can either heed from practicing it or just decide to be hard on others. The short story, Country Lovers written by Nadine Gordiminer in 1975 best represents racial discrimination during colonial period. The story revolves around two main characters Thebedi and Paulus. Eighner states, ...although if I could I would naturally prefer to live the comfortable consumer life, perhaps and only perhaps as a slightly less wasteful consumer owing to what I have learned as a scavenger (88). He pointed out how Americans are not a consumer, but a waster from a scavenger s perspective. The comfortableness of the consumer life makes Americans think that their wasteful action is appropriate. His letter would acknowledge Roosevelt of the importance and the danger of this type of weapon in the hands of Adolf Hitler. Roosevelt immediately created the Advisory Committee on Uranium. After some time had passed, Einstein was forced to send another letter to Roosevelt because the government was not fully funding the committee because Leó Szilárd and Eugene Wigner were both born outside of the U.S. and were considered possible security risks. Roosevelt immediately ordered the government to give them the needed funds, and this brought about the Manhattan Project. He was a Catholic Priest and was known as the Doctor of the Church . He was thought to be the church s best out of all its philosophers and theologians. Pope Benedict XV stated that this Order had obtained a new light when the church had declared the teachings of Saint Thomas, with the special praises of the Pope, to be the master and patron of the Catholic schools. There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship This quote could inspire Aquinas College students to get to know more people in their community and to get along with everyone. It could also inspire students to be more aware of the environment and elderly in the community, like Saint Thomas Aquinas did. This is what Jesus was trying to teach us too, as it is stated in the bible many times. This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:12 13) My House Patron is Edmund Ignatius Rice. My house values are Courage and Compassion. Edmund Rice used these values to help others that were less fortunate and to make people more aware of big issues, like the lack of education most children had in those times. She sees her reliance to concepts and her apathy to others mirrored in the actions of Jason Posher an ambitious clinical fellow working under Dr. Kelekian. He comes in and out of the movie and seems to treat Vivian as un human. Throughout the whole movie he asks her how are you feeling today Vivian, but the way he says it is so unfeeling and cold. At the end of the movie when she is actually dead he asks, it just shows how much doctors really do not have any attachment what so ever to patients in today s medical model. Eventually Vivian realizes that the chemotherapy treatments have failed. She turns to Posner for comfort but he s unable to help. Late one night, she talks to Susie her nurse, about her fears about death. They share a Popsicle in a precious moment of deep intimacy. Susie carefully raises the subject of the options available should Vivian s heart stop, suggesting she may want to have Dr. Kelekian note her preference on her chart. Vivian chooses to be DNR (Do Not Resuscitate). Later, as Vivian lies in a near coma, Susie tenderly rubs lotion on her hands. Small acts of kindness characterize her caring. Which just shows how caring and important nurses really are in our hospital environment. At the end of the movie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
