Genetic Engineering In Oryx And Crake
This novel entitled Oryx and Crake involves different scientific methods and concepts in its plot
wherein it s exaggeration wouldn t occur in real life but rather reflects the negative aspect of scientific
advancements especially on how genetic engineering developed and thus, leads to devastation of
human beings as well as social, religion and cultural issues. The flow of the novel was known to be
dynamic wherein it narrates the happenings in the life of Snowman (Jimmy) in the different
dimensions of time and it is through this that it was able to portray on how devastated the setting
became in the future. This further foresees the impacts of genetic engineering in the future. Crakers
are the products of genetic engineering wherein it is

A Disconnect From Ideologies Opposite From Ones Own
Mario Serna
Intro
A disconnect from ideologies opposite from ones own, appears to be the obvious and simple response.
Opposite architectural theoretical ideas such as solid vs void, ideas vs talent, program vs paradigm,
object vs context, literal vs phenomenal transparency, amongst others are discussed and analyzed in
many of Colin Rowe s writings. Rowe, a British born, architectural historian, critic, theoretician,
teacher and a major intellectual influence on world architecture and urbanism believes in a synthesis
rather than neglecting either of the ideas (Wikipedia) . An architect who seems to embody this
principle of synthesizing ideas is Rem Koolhaus/OMA. His project, Seoul National University

Circulation and Program
The educational components (auditorium and lecture hall) are placed on the sloping surface enhancing
its purpose (seating), the exhibition space, placed on the top flat slab, is given greater flexibility, and
the library, located centrically in its design, becomes a connector of programs. The connection
(circulation) of these programs start to arise as two different circulation loops are conceived, exterior
loop (purple) and interior loop (yellow) (figure 3). The exterior loop starts from the path connection
(road) and spirals up through all the programs. The interior loop, placed inside the main tower and
library, serves a more direct route trough the building. Ingeniously through its combine sloped and flat
slab, the programs have the ability to permeate one another. The exhibition lingers into the auditorium
and lecture hall or vice versa when required by its changes in occupation , obtaining easy and smooth
transitions.
Structure
Most of the building is cantilevered, creating structural challenges. The resolution included a
structural concrete core (yellow) and steel slabs reinforced with steel diagonals, that add to its visual
distinction (Figure 4). The steel structure is revealed through the addition of semi opaque glass in

Scientific Revolution Research Paper
The Scientific Revolution
Have you ever thought when the humanity stepped into a new era of its history? It happened during
The Scientific Revolution when humans views on nature and the world were drastically transformed
with the help of discoveries in the field of physics, science, mathematics chemistry, biology, and
astronomy. That period of the history was very important for humanity because of the collapse of the
ancient medieval picture of the world, new scientific discoveries and the interaction between science
and other social institutions.
The biggest achievement in the Scientific Revolution was the collapse of the ancient medieval picture
of the world. The new ideology was created, which helped to create the modern science. In antiquity,
the focus was on natural and cosmic life; during the Renaissance, there was a focus on understanding
the world through Humanism and the role of the person in the world. After all, Descartes s philosophy,
which was the foundations of the scientific method, did not deny the creation of the world by God.
However, it claimed that from that moment the world began to develop with its internal laws. The next
contributions to science were new scientific inventions. Humans views on nature were radically
changed with the help of discoveries in the field of mathematics, science, physics, and astronomy. The

On the whole, the Scientific Revolution consisted of internal and external factors, which interacted
with each other. The interaction between science and other social institutions was among the external
factors. Furthermore, that interaction influenced on the reassessment of people s values and ideals in
culture. In addition, the changes in the social structures happened, which led a fundamentally new
people s needs appear. People started thinking deeper about values in economic, religion, politics,

The Social Security Act ( Ssa ) Of President Franklin D....
Debates over Social Security have been ongoing since its inception in 1935 until today. The trend
seems to be toward an increasing percentage of the American public, across party and demographic
lines, in favor of strengthening Social Security funding, and a willingness to pay more to preserve and
even improve benefits. However, what is not clear is whether Americans favor privatization of Social
Security because of fears that the Social Security Trust Fund is living on borrowed time.
The Social Security Act (SSA) of 1935 was drafted during the Great Depression as part of President
Franklin D. Roosevelt s New Deal. The SSA was an attempt to limit what were seen as dangers in the
American life, including old age, poverty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2003, Congress added a prescription drug benefit to Medicare (Edwards 431, 540). Since the Social
Security Act was signed into law, many politicians have advocated for privatizing Social Security,
even though Americans are in favor of Social Security and wish to strengthen the program.
The American public strongly supports Social Security, across party and demographic lines. A January
2013, National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) study, Strengthening Social Security: What Do
Americans Want?, found that Americans overwhelmingly support Social Security and are willing to
pay more to preserve and improve benefits. With more than 59 million or 18% of Americans receiving
Social Security benefits, Americans recognize Social Security as a critical program. A large majority
of Americans say they do not mind paying Social Security taxes because of the stability and security
the benefits provide. These findings hold true across party lines, those polled included 87% of
Democrats, 72% of Republicans, and 81% of Independents. 73% of Americans are also willing to pay
for Social Security because they value it for themselves and their families. 85% of Americans say
Social Security is more important than ever to ensure that the elderly and disabled have dependable
income. These views cut across age and income lines: those agreeing include 81% Generation X and

Federal Government Deregulation
What is federal government deregulation? Deregulation is when the federal government cuts down or
gets rid of an industry s restriction, in order to enhance business. Deregulations aren t applied forever,
as this article states, The government removes a regulation when businesses complain it interferes too
much with their ability to compete, especially with foreign companies (Amadeo). They can be
removed as well, but that s a whole other story. The results of deregulation for the Airline industry
cause for far less carriers, less routes, and fees increased, but there were more jobs and better safety.
Who suffers from federal government deregulations? The company airlines as well as the people
suffered from deregulation. When the Airline Deregulation Act happened on October 24, 1978, certain
problems started to happen, perhaps flight costs were lower, but the quality reflects upon ... Show

From the looks of it, it seems like the ones who gained from federal government deregulations are the
people, deregulation has created lots of new jobs. In this article the author states what kind of jobs it
created, So there the airlines were, scrambling to add new routes, to add new flights, and to respond to
the millions of extra Americans flying their services. What did this require the airlines to do? Yes add
more jobs ( A History of US Airline Deregulation ). Think of all the people that were able to get a job,
either as people who worked at the airport, taxi drivers, airplane workers, security people, and so on.
Another benefit would be that safety/security increased both on airplanes and at the airport. As the
author states, Deregulation has encouraged the airlines to become more safety conscious rather than
less. ( A History of US Airline Deregulation ). One of the airlines main priorities would of course have
to be safety, if deregulation caused for less carriers, less routes, more fees, you can expect for more

Informative Speech: How to Decide on a College Major Benjamin Ownby
I. Introduction
A. According to the National Center for Education Statistics in a 2013 study, college students changed
their major an average of three times.
B. Trying to determine a college major is difficult for us.
C. Last Spring, I was struggling to decide whether I should continue pursuing a degree in Civil
Engineering or change majors to MIS, an interesting major I had recently discovered. I continued to
have trouble making this decision, until I came across some useful information and tools.
D. I want to share with you about a process that can be helpful in determining a major. The process
includes determining possible college majors of interest, collecting data ... Show more content on

5. After gathering all relevant information, it is time to start comparing the majors based off the data.
C. The last phase in determining a college major is using a decision making tool, such as a Pugh
Matrix, to compare the possible majors.
1. According to Dr. Burge, who is known in industry for his expertise in system design and decision
making, the Pugh Matrix was created by Stuart Pugh a very influential Professor of Design at
Strathclyde University in Scotland
2. Although the Pugh Matrix was originally created to help in choosing from a number of possible
designs, it can be used as a general tool in comparing alternatives.
3. In the Spring of last year when I was trying to decide between two majors, I used a Pugh Matrix
4. I am now going to show how this tool can be used to determine a major. (Use PPT Visual Aid)
a. Start by listing out factors to be considered such as job outlook, job stress level, cost of earning
degree, median pay, and so on. In this example factors are listed as generic criteria.
b. Then, rank the variables based on importance on a scale from one to five.
c. Assign a Base Major and list the other majors next to it.
d. List S for all the variables under the Base Major because scoring is based off how this compares to
alternatives.
e. List S when an Alternative Major and the Base Major meet

Hope Peddle Case Study
Comments: I have gotten excellent feedback from customers while at the Department of Social
Services, specifically:
1/23/17: Hope Peddle received a compliment call. The AP stated that he is a first time father and Ms.
Peddle made his experience with child support very comfortable. HE stated that she helped him get
through the situation and was very easy to talk to. He stated that Ms. Peddle was very polite and as a
college student, this was a very scary moment. He just had to take the time to share his experience

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

one of my employment in Child Support I have made an effort to go above and beyond in my job
duties and responsibilities. During my free time while in training, I assisted my supervisor in putting
together baskets that were to be taken to the Child Support Conference from Forsyth County. At one
point in training, court orders had been distributed to various trainees that were needed by the
establishment team. Being the only trainee that was also a member of establishment, I went to each
trainee, gathered the establishment orders and distributed them to the appropriate worker so that the
Agents were able to move the cases accordingly. At my supervisor s request, I redesigned the front of
the Stop Sign packets used for group interviews. I made the suggestion that the cover sheet that listed
the documents that are placed in the folder for group be laminated so that customers would be less
likely to write on them, which was implemented by the program manager. When these laminated lists
came back, I stapled them to each folder, in Spanish and English. The Program also prepared fact
booklets about the Child Support program but failed to have them printed in English. I pointed this out

Frontiersmen have existed throughout America s history. According to Turner s hypothesis, they push

frontiersmen during different times in America s history with characters that interact with their
respective frontiers in different ways. Through these three books one can see how the core interactions
between frontiersmen and the frontiers call out the qualities of frontiersmen stated in Turner s frontier

character s stand up for what they believe in, even when they know it might not be accepted. Celeana,

Training of Customer Service
Important points to consider when training customer service employees.
Who are the most important people in your organization? It may come as a surprise to learn that the
most important people are your employees not your customers. Customers come second.
Without qualified and well trained employees committed to strong customer service all of your efforts
to please customers will be fruitless.
Customer service training has become a popular way for service organizations to provide employees
with the information they need to meet customer needs.
It should not, however, be considered a one time or annual event. Customer service training is an
ongoing process that needs to be incorporated into the organization s culture and way ... Show more

Then, when a real situation occurs they will have a higher comfort level about their ability to respond
effectively.
8) Encourage employees to talk to their worst nightmare customers. Customers who are most
demanding, who complain the loudest or who are hardest to please can be a rich source of information
in your customer service improvement efforts. After all, if you can please these tough customers you
should be able to consistently delight your average customers.
Behind the complaints and the demands you ll often find very valid points and issues that you can use
to improve service. Resist the urge to ignore the tough customers; consider them your best resource
for good information on service improvement.
9) Share failures celebrate successes. Don t just focus on successes. Don t just point out failures. You
need a good balance of both failure and success stories to build a strong service culture. Staff can learn
from their own failures as well as the failures of others. Treat each failure not as an opportunity to
punish staff, but as an opportunity to learn. Why did the failure occur? What could be done differently
next time to avoid such a failure? What lessons might other staff learn to avoid these issues?
Similarly, take time to celebrate your successes and to share these success examples with all
employees. Sometimes the best customer service training for staff can be a good debriefing of either a

Grand Junction, Colorado is a town in Western Colorado that has taken steps to excel in the health
care field by providing cost effective and efficient care to their community. In lecture this week, we
have learned that the key system concepts are: shared vision, shared reality, people, parts,
interrelationships, leverage, adaptability and iterative learning.1 The article: Grand Junction,
Colorado: A Health Community That Works, is an example of a patient centered medical home that
currently exists in the United States, and should be looked at as a possible solution to our current
health care overspending crisis. I believe that the health care provided in Grand Junction, Colorado
has excelled in all these concepts and will discuss their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shared Reality: Not only did the medical community share a vision, they also shared data through the
Quality Health Network (QHN)2. They developed an IT system that is still in the infancy stages in the
rest of the United States where data is shared between various providers. There is a common network
that providers are able to log into and see other providers notes and care plans. This sharing of
information has decreased the performance of duplicate tests/procedures and has decreased the costs
and increased the quality of care that patients in the Grand Junction community receive. The
information in the shared data system was also used to promote transparency of data on physician
performance to formulate a health care model that focused on the patient and through peer pressure,
caused the providers to strive for better outcomes. People: We have learned that the United States is
lacking providers in the primary care field but Grand Junction actually has an increased number of
PCPs in their community, and this has allowed them to manage their patient s care more in depth.2
Having the social service groups to assist with necessary patient follow up and home care has also
worked favorably for them. In addition, they have highly motivated individuals that are seeking to
make a change in the way that health care is delivered. This is the most important aspect of the whole
system, because without these vital players, the system would

Mr. Mead And The Police Car In The Pedestrian By Ray Bradbury
The characterizations of Mr. Mead and the Police Car in the story The Pedestrian draws a clear
distinction between our society and the futuristic society that the author, Ray Bradbury, intended to
create in his story. This allows the readers to better understand what the author s perspective of a
world where humans rely too much on technology is like. An example would be the characterization
of Mr. Mead as a weird person in the futuristic society because he enjoys walking. This could be seen
in Mr. Mead s conversation with the police, Walking, just walking, walking? Yes, sir. Walking where?
For what? Walking for air. Walking to see. Your address! Eleven South Saint James Street. And there

Mr. Mead can clearly be described as an odd ball in this society because he walks for the fresh air
despite the usage of Air conditioners and viewing screen, but his actions are normal in our society and
he would be described by the readers as normal. This makes readers better understand the author s
perspective on how people relied on technology such as Air conditioners and viewing screen to the
extent where they will not come out for a walk at all, and that those like Mr Mead are weird in that
society. Another example is the characterization of the police car as a machine, programed to arrest
humans with regressive behaviors. The characterization is clear when the Police car ask Mr. Mead for
his name, Your name? said the police car in a metallic whisper (page 2) and when he told Mr. Mead
that he is taking him To the Psychiatric Center for Research on Regressive Tendencies (page 2). This
makes readers picture a world that relied on advance technologies, as robotic police cars are used to
arrest people with regressive behavior. Also explains that Mr Mead is considered to be regressive, and
that machines are starting to take over people s lives as everything seems to be controlled by

An Analysis Of Hoch s Photomontage s Spirit Of Our Time
Hoch s photomontage was one of many collages that criticized the cultural staleness, depravity, and
decaying values of the German state. Through her depiction of German politicians and technology in a
state of chaos and confusion, she was effectively able to convince the German people to reevaluate
their faith in the government and current cultural values. She used the fast advancing technology of
the time (especially mass media) in also advancing her own goals of sardonically criticizing the
failings of the German state as well as pushing for gender equality. The other Berlin Dadaist, Raoul
Hausmann, created the combine, Spirit of Our Time: Mechanical Head, to criticize the German public
s dependence on tools and industry to think and rationalize, stripping away what he perceived made us
human (Crockett, 173). The title, Spirit of Our Time, is a metaphor for the German people s inability
to enact the change and reform needed to rebuild a better Germany after the horrendous world war
(Doherty, 82). The wooden head represents current state of the German people whose extent of
thought and logic can only be experienced by the mechanical tools affixed to the outside of his head.
The tools attached to his head include a ruler and a tape ruler, a pocket watch, a jewelry box
containing a typewriter wheel, a telescopic beaker, and some brass knobs from a camera
(artfactory.com). These objects each have some significance to the thoughts that the wooden head is

How Does Arthur Miller Build Tension in Acts 1 and 2 and...
How does Arthur Miller build tension in Acts 1 and 2 and up to the entrance of George on page 138?
Tension is defined as latent hostility , a state of mental or emotional strain on a person. This is
particularly evident in the first two Acts of All My Sons as there are many ways in which Miller builds
tension. He uses the set, symbolism, retrospective exposition, mood and the backdrop of all American
tensions. It is the combination of all of these techniques which culminates in the overall tension of the
first two acts. The opening lines of the play describe the very claustrophobic setting hedged on right
and left by tall closely planted poplars , this immediately sets the scene as being closed and private

Chris is described to be without a shirt at the beginning of Act 2 showing the increase in temperature
as the day progresses. Mother also comments on the heat claiming that it s suffocating upstairs ; this
could refer to the tensions building between characters and also the heat of the day. These are both
mimetic of the mood as the arguments are becoming more heated and more layers are emerging in the
lies metaphorically suffocating the characters as more and more deceit is coated around the truth. The
change in lighting acts in a similar way to the change in heat as the play starts as early morning but by
the end of Act 2 it is twilight which echoes the darkening of the mood and the gradual increase in
tension. Miller also uses retrospective exposition to build tension in the first two acts as the whole
action of the play turns very quickly to trying to find out deep secrets from the past. When Frank
Lubey comes into the yard to talk to the Keller s he starts to dredge up the past by asking questions
about the events: Larry was reported missing on November 25th right? and does Dad expect a parole
soon? These are both simple questions but arouse tension in the plot as answering them brings forth
the inaccuracy surrounding the past. The way the plot revolves around the past is due to Henrik Ibsen
s influence in Miller s work. Ibsen is known for his realistic

What Is Treasure Island A Coming Of Age Story
In our society the coming of age story has become part of the main stream. It is seen in famous movies
such as the Wizard Of Oz, Star Wars, and the Harry Potter series. Robert Louis Stevenson s coming of

Hawkins a young boy who runs an inn along with his mother and father takes an unexpected turn
when a pirate named Billy Bones comes barging in the inn one day. When the pirate suddenly dies

In the classic mid century tale this always seemed to be the knight having to slay the dragon. Young
Jim Hawkins had some dragons to slay of his own. Throughout the journey he has to endure the
shenanigans of the pirates. He hears about the mutiny that was going to rise, and the fights back
against them. He uses his wits to avoid being captured, and has to fear for his life. When aboard the
ship he is attacked and is almost murdered by Israel Hands, but he kills him in self defense. He warns,
One more step, Mr. Hands, said I, and I ll blow your brains out! Dead men don t bite, you know, (113).
He does not regret killing him, he knew that Israel Hands was a diseased man. He would have killed
Jim just as he killed one of his shipmates. This endeavor changed him into a more rugged and
hardened person. Not only is he changed from the killing of Hands, but from the journey itself. He
experienced the adventure of sailing, but also witnessed the rotten life of a pirate. Once he returned he
had no interest for any more adventures or treasure. Although the story is told through the eyes of Jim
Hawkins, the story is more about the adventure. The journey is what changes the character, and the
audience gets to witness it. Stevenson wrote with inspiration from playing with his step sons. The
story was meant to fulfill the dreams of people who have wished that they would be able

Prisoners of war were quite common as Rome was almost always at war somewhere in her territory or
at the borders. The defeated army would likely be slaughtered or the survivors would be sold into
slavery. Caesar did so in his 9 year Gallic wars, enslaving an estimated a million prisoners to pay his
troops. Plutarch (Caes. 15). Being sold into slavery was mostly the cause of piracy. In the years before
167 BC the people on the island of Rhodes ensured safe passage through the eastern Mediterranean,
however once the Romans destroyed the Rhodian fleet, pirates were given the opportunity to attack
whoever they chose, resulting in a plentiful supply of cheap slaves to be sold. As stated in Cicero Who
sailed the seas without exposing himself to the risk either of death or of slavery? People born to a
slave were automatically a slave themselves. They were called vernae. Vernae were likely to be the
result of a liason between a free person in the household and a slave. This was likely as no female
slave could refuse her master or free males in the house. Slaves being born into slavery profited their
masters greatly as they were not paid for and then later on could be sold for more money. As military
service was mandatory to all in Rome except for slaves, numbers of vernae could grow rapidly and

Political Scenario in India
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
India is heading for the 2014 General Election, which will decide which party is going to get the clear
majority in the Parliament. As a part of preparation for the big political battle, all the parties seem to
be ready with their campaigning strategy and issues.
The recently rally by Congress in New Delhi and JD(U) in Patna are the best set example that parties
have already geared up for the battle 2014. There are many issues like corruption, inflation, subsidies
on LPG, and hike in Petrol prices which could put voters in puzzles to decide their right candidates to

For most of the years since independence, the federal government has been guided by the Indian

Garland, Kolodny s Five Stage Model Of Group Development
The clarity and effectiveness of purpose and the use of time was very well used in this meeting. The
purpose of this meeting was very clear to both this writer and seemed to be to all group members.
Group members respected that the purpose was to have meetings that were effective enough to help
themselves stay sober. The group leader was very strict on keeping the group on task and did not allow
much time for the group members to get off topic. The group discussions truly allowed group
members to understand the purpose in being in attendance at each meeting. The time allotted for the
meeting was perfect. The hour long session left just enough time for each portion of the meeting to be
completed, but did not leave extra time where the group leader struggled to come up with discussion
or activities for the group members to participate in. The use of time was very effective and clear to

The Fundamental Elements Of Disagreement Within A...
The foundational elements of disagreement within a respective field habitually derive from the overlap
between personal knowledge and shared knowledge, in the zone of exchange. Man forms shared
knowledge to which experts in specific fields utilize to construct their personal truth and thus it
becomes knowledge. This knowledge results from a multitude of diverse perspectives to formulate
facts that can be adopted by other experts up to their discernment. It is possible there can be
disagreement between experts in a discipline by virtue of peer reviewing, futuristic estimations, and
one s moral standards.
When one is allocated the title of an expert, it is essential to acknowledge what principles constitute

Furthermore, the natural sciences add perspectives to ethical debate when examining one s moral
principles. Meta ethics comes into play when moral principles are being determined as universal or
not. I believe there is no definitive line in which dictates one s moral beliefs. Such can be observed in
my World Studies Extended Essay that focuses on the negative transformation of the Great Barrier
Reef systems on behalf of human activity and natural causes. Although expert marine biologists are
exposed and aware of the perishing coral reef systems, their moral judgments can often cloud the logic
and reasoning of the situation. For example, some marine biologists are more prone to accusing the
natural environment tendencies for the causes of coral reef bleaching, while others implicate mankind
is completely responsible. These perspectives, based off of moral judgments, are established as a
result of external factors such as one s culture, moral values, environment, or the way in which one
was raised. Moreover, this can often lead to dispute among experts because of the subjectivity and bias
each individual expert contains. However, despite there being conflict amid the experts, this provides
for a diverse center of viewpoints by which allows for shared knowledge to generate. With this shared
knowledge, it

Why Is Boo Radley Important In To Kill A Mockingbird
The wonderful novel to kill a mockingbird occured in a small town called maycomb alabama. The
author harper lee published the novel in 1960. It was immediately successful and won the pulitzer

the most is Boo radley, Jem, and calpurnia. All three of these characters are really important in the
novel. Boo Radley is the type of guy to never leave his house. Many people see Boo as a creepy, scary,

Azolla
1. What is the geographic distribution and habitat of Azolla? (1 pt.)
The habitat of Azolla is any climate that is warm, temperate or tropical regions. Azolla cannot survive
in areas that have long freezes or arid temperatures. This means that Azolla can be found on any
continent that has warm freshwater ponds, ditches, slow rivers or lakes. Azolla can be found on every
continent except for Antarctica. (1)
2. What is unique about this fern? Why is it called Azolla Superorganism ? (2 pts)
Azolla is a superorganism because it has a symbiotic relationship with cyanobacteria. These two
organisms are separate beings, but when the Azolla reproduces it passes that bacteria onto it s
offspring allowing the offspring to have the benefits of the symbiotic relationship. These two
organisms co evolved together over time and have not been found separate in over 100 million years.

Anorexia In Sports
According to Smink, van Hoeken, Hoek, Eating disorders are serious mental illnesses with high
mortality rates; they are often long standing and make a significant negative impact to the individual s
quality of life (Bratland Sanda Sundgot Borgen 449). Eating disorders are categorized into three main
types: bulimia, anorexia, and eating disorders otherwise not specified (such as binge eating disorder).
Bulimia involves the act of binge eating that occurs when an individual consumes a lot of food in a

Reductive Materialism
Reductive Materialism:
Reductive materialism is a sub theory or a version of Physicalism. It suggests that sensations of the
mind correlate exactly to physical movements of the brain. In other words, every thought or
experience which occurs in your mind, can be found as activity in your brain. This does not mean
however, that the mind and the brain are the same thing, just that they are both different experiences of
the same thing. For example, a neuroscientist may be able to study your brain activity as you
experience it in your mind. A problem with this theory when applied, is that two different people
having the same thought, will have the identical brain activity. But the thoughts of one person are
subjective to their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However if these experiences are intangible, then they can t be exactly the same as the functioning of
the brain, which is a tangible substance. The Two Marys analogy demonstrates this dispute of
reductive materialism, as once the Mary has learned something by an experience or qualia , then that
experience can t be a physical event in the brain.
Eliminative Materialism:
Eliminative Materialism argues that everything we believe about minds and conciousness does not
exist (including belief itself), on the grounds that it cannot be empirically proved. The claim is that the
understood laws or generalisations we use when we use terms of the mind , are false. For example, if
someone talks about their feeling of pain, then they would call this statement Folk Psychology ,
meaning that the words are just used habitually and don t have any true meaning. They say that the
problem is in the language we use to make sense of what we can t prove. This idea however, is not
consistent, as it disputes the belief in anything, meaning the belief of eliminativism in itself cannot be
believed. Similarly, believing in Nihilism is contradictory.
Another problem with the argument is that it assumes empirical methods of experiment are always
accurate and consistent, when we know that this is not always the case, and some physical events in
the world are not caused by physical substances.
If all out beliefs and

Should Welfare Subsidies be limited to only the Social Security System? Social programs for aiding
the needs of the U.S. population are called welfare subsidies. Federal social programs were first
proposed with Theodore Roosevelt s New Nationalism, and expanded during the Wilson, Roosevelt,
and Johnson Administrations. There are eighty three overlapping federal programs which vary in
eligibility requirements. They help provide food, shelter, healthcare, education and money to
American citizens. These services are provided through primary and secondary education, subsidies of
college education, pensions for eligible persons, subsidies for eligible low wage workers, subsidies for
housing, unemployment disability insurance, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits,
subsidies for housing, and health insurance programs that cover public employees. The largest and
most prominent welfare subsidy is the Social Security Program and the second largest is Medicare.
Aside from Medicare and Social Security, Congress allocated $717 billion to welfare subsidies in
2010. That same year, states allocated $210 billion. The total allocations for Social Security and
Medicare were $1.3 trillion in 2013, which was 37% of the total Federal expenditure budget of $3.684
trillion. Aside from government welfare programs, private welfare is about 1.6 trillion, about ten
percent of the total US GDP. As part of the

Importance Of Patient Centered Care In Pharmacy
Patient centered care is something I think should ve been a part of the pharmacy field since pharmacy
has started though, it was to a different extent. Patient centered care for me is to mold/modify a
treatment plan according to the patient s needs and to consider them in the treatment plan when
making one up. Most doctors are likely to just tell the patient what their condition is and what they
should take and just tell them what they need to know instead of asking them questions like what are
some complications they have been facing while they are following the treatment plan and addressing
them. I think it s important to have patient centered care because then the patient is more likely to trust
their doctor and are willing to follow their plan even if it is uncomfortable to them.
During my IPPE, my preceptor asked me a question, why would a patient follow through their
medication regimen? I told him, that it s because they believe that the medication will work for them.
After that, he told me trust in their pharmacist is the key. Then, I understood it, that no matter what the
scenario is if the patient is willing to trust their healthcare professional, then they would be willing to
follow their care plan and understand their intentions for them, instead of them just listening through
one ear and out the other. From all of this, the patient gets the most benefit and it all comes down to
patient centered care overall.

Functional Genomic Analysis of C. elegans Using RNA...
Introduction
Before we talk about this important experiment, do you know what a nematode is?
Specifically, this experiment used Caenorhabditis elegans, C. elegans for short. C. elegans is a little
worm (just like the kind you find in the ground), but has a very special place in modern biochemistry:
scientists have mapped its entire genomic sequence.
This sequence lets scientists know the character and location of all C. elegans genes. However,
biochemists do not yet fully understand what each gene does and the goal of this experiment is to find
the function of each gene within the worm. The connection between a worm s genotype and
phenotype is important, because, believe it or not, human beings and worms share many of the same ...

All eukaryotic cells get their genetic information from DNA, which are strands of nucleotides whose
order conveys genetic information to the cell. Structurally, DNA looks like a ladder. A DNA strand is
made up of a sugar phosphate backbone (similar to the sides of a ladder, alternating sugar and
phosphate) and is connected in the middle with paired purines and pyrimidines (fancy names for four
chemicals that make up the steps of the ladder). Scientists refer to the distinctive shape of DNA as a
double helix.
DNA replication is necessary for organisms to stay alive and reproduce. When cells replicate, the
DNA must also be copied so the daughter cells contain the genetic information necessary to perform
key chemical reactions. Cells have machinery that read the information in DNA and use these
instructions to make proteins. To make proteins, the DNA must first unwind in order to be read. This
small section is then replicated to form a single stranded RNA strand. The RNA strand then forms
what is called messenger RNA or simply mRNA. The mRNA is used to make the proteins the cell
needs.
In some viruses, however, the genetic material is double stranded RNA (known as dsRNA), rather
than DNA. These viruses inject their dsRNA into a host s cell. The

Man has the right to deal with his oppressors by devouring their palpitating hearts. Although harsh,
Jean Paul Marat s words resonate strongly with the ideals he pushed for in revolutionary France. With
his newspaper and political positions, Marat pushed for a complete eradication of the noble class in
current power, advanced the Convention beliefs, and pressed for liberal changes throughout the
Parisian government. According to Ide, In Marat s newsletter L Ami du peuple, meaning friend of the

While both poets Muir and Wordsworth wrote about the happy feelings that they have towards nature
the beautiful outdoors or what some people may say Mother Nature, some of which the feelings are
the same and some that are different as they speak of the different plants.
In every walk with Nature one receives far more than he seeks. John Muir Nature does not only show
the beauty of the Earth, but it shows the beauty within us. So then, is it not easy to say that both of

Muir creatively informs the reader just how much the main character truly loves nature. The same
marvel and beauty is shared in the poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud. After a long climb over a high
hill he finds his reward a valley shining with a huge field of daffodils. Besides the lakes, beneath the
trees, fluttering and dancing in the breeze. As Wordsworth explains the scene. As each scene pops out
of the poem, a new addition to the painting in your mind appears each time. The painting may vary
from person to person, but I believe the same sense of awe is present with every mind. The portions
cited are just the beginning of these two works; enough to splash your mind with colors and emotions,
but later parts are what truly makes them worth reading.
Calypso Borealis turns from revelation to a desperate situation. Weary and empty, the main character
prepares to spend the night in the wet swamp, in a tree nest. Just as the sun was about to set, the future
very unpredictable, when Everything seemed most dangerous and discouraging , the story continues, I
found beautiful Calypso on the mossy bank of stream. Overwhelmed by the purity and beauty of the
Calypso, he collapses by the flower and cries. This rather quick change of pace I what kept me
reading, and the fact the Calypso was so beautiful it made the main character break down in tears.

The Tempest By William Shakespeare Essay
What do we think about monsters? Monsters are part of our popular culture and have been used
invidious media since our earlier times. They have been used to instill fear in us, and to make us timid
to our approach of the unknown and the unnatural. This fear of monsters and the unknown has
unfortunately also applied to other humans as well. Shakespeare s The
Tempest uses one character, Caliban, to represent the imagery of the unknown and as a savage
monster in the viewpoint of exploring Europeans. Using The Tempest and other works such as Cesaire
s A Tempest and Achebe s An Image of Africa, I will describe the struggles of Caliban from the story
lens and a post colonial lens and to identify how he is being described as monster in Shakespeare s
final work. In The Tempest, along with being an enslaved being of the magical Prospero, Caliban is
also noticeably the only known native of the island in which Prospero and his daughter have inhabited
since their betrayal a decade plus before. According to Caliban himself (and also Prospero and Ariel),
he is the offspring of a witch who s name is Sycorax. Yes, Caliban, her son. (338, Act I Scene II)
Sycorax, along with Caliban, was one of the few natives of the secluded island and was a very
powerful witch. Several interpretations of Sycorax are widespread in historical mythology and
cultures, but one of the most noticeable is being a witch who is a native from Africa. Because of fear
over her abilities, Sycorax is

Capitalism Vs Capitalism
2.2 Capitalism is chaotic
Marx also criticizes capitalism because of its chaotic nature. In this regard, the author states that
capitalism only allows economies to thrive on crises that tend to stimulate them. As a result, Marx
argues that the reliance on this crises was an avenue for creating economic havoc in the long run
which is risky for the economy and the country as a whole. For that reason, Marx advocated for a
planned community which will be an essential replacement for such spontaneous, erratic and
freewheeling system (AllAboutWorldview.org, 2017). Even in periods when capitalist economies
seem to function relatively smoothly, without incidences such as recession or inflation, the Marxian
theory depicts capitalism as a destructive economic system (Wolff Resnick, 2012).
2.3 Capitalism breeds inequality
Karl Marx, a renowned philosopher and economist is against capitalism because he believed that
created conditions that promoted inequality (Alfarsi, 2016). Capitalism creates two classes of people
in society. In this regard, Marx states that capitalism results in a class of people known as proletarians
who are majorly composed of the working class as well as the bourgeois which comprises of the
capitalists who are the owners of the factors of production. As a result of the competing interests,
capitalism creates a struggle between these two classes of people hence the reason as to why it is
undesirable.

Opposite architectural theoretical ideas such as solid vs void, ideas vs talent, program vs paradigm, object vs context, literal vs phenomenal transparency, amongst others are discussed and analyzed in many of Colin Rowe s writings. Rowe, a British born, architectural historian, critic, theoretician, teacher and a major intellectual influence on world architecture and urbanism believes in a synthesis rather than neglecting either of the ideas (Wikipedia) . • 5. Scientific Revolution Research Paper The Scientific Revolution Have you ever thought when the humanity stepped into a new era of its history? It happened during The Scientific Revolution when humans views on nature and the world were drastically transformed with the help of discoveries in the field of physics, science, mathematics chemistry, biology, and astronomy. That period of the history was very important for humanity because of the collapse of the ancient medieval picture of the world, new scientific discoveries and the interaction between science and other social institutions. The biggest achievement in the Scientific Revolution was the collapse of the ancient medieval picture of the world. The new ideology was created, which helped to create the modern science. In antiquity, the focus was on natural and cosmic life; during the Renaissance, there was a focus on understanding the world through Humanism and the role of the person in the world. After all, Descartes s philosophy, which was the foundations of the scientific method, did not deny the creation of the world by God. However, it claimed that from that moment the world began to develop with its internal laws. The next contributions to science were new scientific inventions. • 6. The Social Security Act ( Ssa ) Of President Franklin D.... Debates over Social Security have been ongoing since its inception in 1935 until today. The trend seems to be toward an increasing percentage of the American public, across party and demographic lines, in favor of strengthening Social Security funding, and a willingness to pay more to preserve and even improve benefits. However, what is not clear is whether Americans favor privatization of Social Security because of fears that the Social Security Trust Fund is living on borrowed time. In 2003, Congress added a prescription drug benefit to Medicare (Edwards 431, 540). Since the Social Security Act was signed into law, many politicians have advocated for privatizing Social Security, even though Americans are in favor of Social Security and wish to strengthen the program. The American public strongly supports Social Security, across party and demographic lines. A January 2013, National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) study, Strengthening Social Security: What Do Americans Want?, found that Americans overwhelmingly support Social Security and are willing to pay more to preserve and improve benefits. With more than 59 million or 18% of Americans receiving Social Security benefits, Americans recognize Social Security as a critical program. After all, if you can please these tough customers you should be able to consistently delight your average customers. Behind the complaints and the demands you ll often find very valid points and issues that you can use to improve service. Resist the urge to ignore the tough customers; consider them your best resource for good information on service improvement. 9) Share failures celebrate successes. Don t just focus on successes. Don t just point out failures. You need a good balance of both failure and success stories to build a strong service culture. Staff can learn from their own failures as well as the failures of others. Treat each failure not as an opportunity to punish staff, but as an opportunity to learn. Why did the failure occur? What could be done differently next time to avoid such a failure? What lessons might other staff learn to avoid these issues? They developed an IT system that is still in the infancy stages in the rest of the United States where data is shared between various providers. There is a common network that providers are able to log into and see other providers notes and care plans. This sharing of information has decreased the performance of duplicate tests/procedures and has decreased the costs and increased the quality of care that patients in the Grand Junction community receive. The information in the shared data system was also used to promote transparency of data on physician performance to formulate a health care model that focused on the patient and through peer pressure, caused the providers to strive for better outcomes. People: We have learned that the United States is lacking providers in the primary care field but Grand Junction actually has an increased number of PCPs in their community, and this has allowed them to manage their patient s care more in depth.2 Having the social service groups to assist with necessary patient follow up and home care has also worked favorably for them. She used the fast advancing technology of the time (especially mass media) in also advancing her own goals of sardonically criticizing the failings of the German state as well as pushing for gender equality. The other Berlin Dadaist, Raoul Hausmann, created the combine, Spirit of Our Time: Mechanical Head, to criticize the German public s dependence on tools and industry to think and rationalize, stripping away what he perceived made us human (Crockett, 173). The title, Spirit of Our Time, is a metaphor for the German people s inability to enact the change and reform needed to rebuild a better Germany after the horrendous world war (Doherty, 82). The wooden head represents current state of the German people whose extent of thought and logic can only be experienced by the mechanical tools affixed to the outside of his head. The tools attached to his head include a ruler and a tape ruler, a pocket watch, a jewelry box containing a typewriter wheel, a telescopic beaker, and some brass knobs from a camera (artfactory.com). • 16. How Does Arthur Miller Build Tension in Acts 1 and 2 and... How does Arthur Miller build tension in Acts 1 and 2 and up to the entrance of George on page 138? Tension is defined as latent hostility , a state of mental or emotional strain on a person. This is particularly evident in the first two Acts of All My Sons as there are many ways in which Miller builds tension. He uses the set, symbolism, retrospective exposition, mood and the backdrop of all American tensions. It is the combination of all of these techniques which culminates in the overall tension of the first two acts. The opening lines of the play describe the very claustrophobic setting hedged on right and left by tall closely planted poplars , this immediately sets the scene as being closed and private with the audience being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chris is described to be without a shirt at the beginning of Act 2 showing the increase in temperature as the day progresses. Mother also comments on the heat claiming that it s suffocating upstairs ; this could refer to the tensions building between characters and also the heat of the day. These are both mimetic of the mood as the arguments are becoming more heated and more layers are emerging in the lies metaphorically suffocating the characters as more and more deceit is coated around the truth. The change in lighting acts in a similar way to the change in heat as the play starts as early morning but by the end of Act 2 it is twilight which echoes the darkening of the mood and the gradual increase in tension. Miller also uses retrospective exposition to build tension in the first two acts as the whole action of the play turns very quickly to trying to find out deep secrets from the past. When Frank Lubey comes into the yard to talk to the Keller s he starts to dredge up the past by asking questions about the events: Larry was reported missing on November 25th right? and does Dad expect a parole soon? These are both simple questions but arouse tension in the plot as answering them brings forth the inaccuracy surrounding the past. The way the plot revolves around the past is due to Henrik Ibsen s influence in Miller s work. Ibsen is known for his realistic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He uses his wits to avoid being captured, and has to fear for his life. When aboard the ship he is attacked and is almost murdered by Israel Hands, but he kills him in self defense. Not only is he changed from the killing of Hands, but from the journey itself. He experienced the adventure of sailing, but also witnessed the rotten life of a pirate. Once he returned he had no interest for any more adventures or treasure. Although the story is told through the eyes of Jim Hawkins, the story is more about the adventure. Plutarch (Caes. 15). Being sold into slavery was mostly the cause of piracy. In the years before 167 BC the people on the island of Rhodes ensured safe passage through the eastern Mediterranean, however once the Romans destroyed the Rhodian fleet, pirates were given the opportunity to attack whoever they chose, resulting in a plentiful supply of cheap slaves to be sold. Vernae were likely to be the result of a liason between a free person in the household and a slave. This was likely as no female slave could refuse her master or free males in the house. It suggests that sensations of the mind correlate exactly to physical movements of the brain. In other words, every thought or experience which occurs in your mind, can be found as activity in your brain. This does not mean however, that the mind and the brain are the same thing, just that they are both different experiences of the same thing. For example, a neuroscientist may be able to study your brain activity as you experience it in your mind. The Two Marys analogy demonstrates this dispute of reductive materialism, as once the Mary has learned something by an experience or qualia , then that experience can t be a physical event in the brain. Eliminative Materialism: Eliminative Materialism argues that everything we believe about minds and conciousness does not exist (including belief itself), on the grounds that it cannot be empirically proved. The claim is that the understood laws or generalisations we use when we use terms of the mind , are false. For example, if someone talks about their feeling of pain, then they would call this statement Folk Psychology , meaning that the words are just used habitually and don t have any true meaning. They say that the problem is in the language we use to make sense of what we can t prove. This idea however, is not consistent, as it disputes the belief in anything, meaning the belief of eliminativism in itself cannot be believed. Similarly, believing in Nihilism is contradictory. Another problem with the argument is that it assumes empirical methods of experiment are always accurate and consistent, when we know that this is not always the case, and some physical events in the world are not caused by physical substances. Safwan Siddiqi Mr. Williams AP Government and Politics, Period 2 March 28, 2015 Should Welfare Subsidies be limited to only the Social Security System? Social programs for aiding the needs of the U.S. population are called welfare subsidies. Federal social programs were first proposed with Theodore Roosevelt s New Nationalism, and expanded during the Wilson, Roosevelt, and Johnson Administrations. There are eighty three overlapping federal programs which vary in eligibility requirements. They help provide food, shelter, healthcare, education and money to American citizens. These services are provided through primary and secondary education, subsidies of college education, pensions for eligible persons, subsidies for eligible low wage workers, subsidies for housing, unemployment disability insurance, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, subsidies for housing, and health insurance programs that cover public employees. The largest and most prominent welfare subsidy is the Social Security Program and the second largest is Medicare. Importance Of Patient Centered Care In Pharmacy Patient centered care is something I think should ve been a part of the pharmacy field since pharmacy has started though, it was to a different extent. Patient centered care for me is to mold/modify a treatment plan according to the patient s needs and to consider them in the treatment plan when making one up. Most doctors are likely to just tell the patient what their condition is and what they should take and just tell them what they need to know instead of asking them questions like what are some complications they have been facing while they are following the treatment plan and addressing them. I think it s important to have patient centered care because then the patient is more likely to trust their doctor and are willing to follow their plan even if it is uncomfortable to them. During my IPPE, my preceptor asked me a question, why would a patient follow through their medication regimen? I told him, that it s because they believe that the medication will work for them. After that, he told me trust in their pharmacist is the key. Then, I understood it, that no matter what the scenario is if the patient is willing to trust their healthcare professional, then they would be willing to follow their care plan and understand their intentions for them, instead of them just listening through one ear and out the other. From all of this, the patient gets the most benefit and it all comes down to patient centered care overall. Some of the examples that contradict ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All eukaryotic cells get their genetic information from DNA, which are strands of nucleotides whose order conveys genetic information to the cell. Structurally, DNA looks like a ladder. A DNA strand is made up of a sugar phosphate backbone (similar to the sides of a ladder, alternating sugar and phosphate) and is connected in the middle with paired purines and pyrimidines (fancy names for four chemicals that make up the steps of the ladder). Scientists refer to the distinctive shape of DNA as a double helix. DNA replication is necessary for organisms to stay alive and reproduce. When cells replicate, the DNA must also be copied so the daughter cells contain the genetic information necessary to perform key chemical reactions. Cells have machinery that read the information in DNA and use these instructions to make proteins. To make proteins, the DNA must first unwind in order to be read. This small section is then replicated to form a single stranded RNA strand. The RNA strand then forms what is called messenger RNA or simply mRNA. The mRNA is used to make the proteins the cell needs. In some viruses, however, the genetic material is double stranded RNA (known as dsRNA), rather than DNA. After a long climb over a high hill he finds his reward a valley shining with a huge field of daffodils. Besides the lakes, beneath the trees, fluttering and dancing in the breeze. As Wordsworth explains the scene. As each scene pops out of the poem, a new addition to the painting in your mind appears each time. The painting may vary from person to person, but I believe the same sense of awe is present with every mind. The portions cited are just the beginning of these two works; enough to splash your mind with colors and emotions, but later parts are what truly makes them worth reading. Calypso Borealis turns from revelation to a desperate situation. Weary and empty, the main character prepares to spend the night in the wet swamp, in a tree nest. Just as the sun was about to set, the future very unpredictable, when Everything seemed most dangerous and discouraging , the story continues, I found beautiful Calypso on the mossy bank of stream. • 36. The Tempest By William Shakespeare Essay What do we think about monsters? Monsters are part of our popular culture and have been used invidious media since our earlier times. They have been used to instill fear in us, and to make us timid to our approach of the unknown and the unnatural. This fear of monsters and the unknown has unfortunately also applied to other humans as well. Shakespeare s The Tempest uses one character, Caliban, to represent the imagery of the unknown and as a savage monster in the viewpoint of exploring Europeans. Using The Tempest and other works such as Cesaire s A Tempest and Achebe s An Image of Africa, I will describe the struggles of Caliban from the story lens and a post colonial lens and to identify how he is being described as monster in Shakespeare s final work. In The Tempest, along with being an enslaved being of the magical Prospero, Caliban is also noticeably the only known native of the island in which Prospero and his daughter have inhabited since their betrayal a decade plus before. According to Caliban himself (and also Prospero and Ariel), he is the offspring of a witch who s name is Sycorax. Yes, Caliban, her son. (338, Act I Scene II) Sycorax, along with Caliban, was one of the few natives of the secluded island and was a very powerful witch. Several interpretations of Sycorax are widespread in historical mythology and cultures, but one of the most noticeable is being a witch who is a native from Africa. Because of fear over her abilities, Sycorax is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Capitalism Vs Capitalism 2.2 Capitalism is chaotic Marx also criticizes capitalism because of its chaotic nature. In this regard, the author states that capitalism only allows economies to thrive on crises that tend to stimulate them. As a result, Marx argues that the reliance on this crises was an avenue for creating economic havoc in the long run which is risky for the economy and the country as a whole. For that reason, Marx advocated for a planned community which will be an essential replacement for such spontaneous, erratic and freewheeling system (AllAboutWorldview.org, 2017). Even in periods when capitalist economies seem to function relatively smoothly, without incidences such as recession or inflation, the Marxian theory depicts capitalism as a destructive economic system (Wolff Resnick, 2012). 2.3 Capitalism breeds inequality Karl Marx, a renowned philosopher and economist is against capitalism because he believed that created conditions that promoted inequality (Alfarsi, 2016). Capitalism creates two classes of people in society. In this regard, Marx states that capitalism results in a class of people known as proletarians who are majorly composed of the working class as well as the bourgeois which comprises of the capitalists who are the owners of the factors of production. As a result of the competing interests, capitalism creates a struggle between these two classes of people hence the reason as to why it is undesirable. 3.0 Neoclassical Officially coined in 1900, the neoclassical ... • 39. Satire In Political Cartoons Political cartoons and satire are a prevalent way to depict the current viewpoints in the political system. In some cases, the cartoons can polarize people when they push the envelope too far. However, in many cases, Democrats and Republicans alike can join in laughing at the humor intended by the illustrators and writers. For my cartoon, I chose to draw a picture of an elephant crushing Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate. The meaning behind my cartoon is that even Republicans are trying to keep Trump from saying all the highly opinionated, offensive, and negative things in his political campaign. Elephants represent the Republicans, and the Democrats are symbolized as Donkeys. In my cartoon, the elephant sitting on Trump ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
