Definition
 Defined micro teaching as “A scaled down teaching
encounter in class size and class time”.
Meaning:
 Microteaching means the teaching of a small unit of content
to the small group of students (6-10)in a small amount of
time(5-7 min).
 Micro-teaching is a teacher training and faculty
development technique wheryby the teacher reviews a
recording of a teaching session, in order to get constructive
feedback from peers/students about what has worked and
what improvements can be made to their teaching
technique.
Objectives of Microteaching
 To enable teacher trainees to learn and assimilate new
teaching skills under controlled conditions.
 To enable teacher trainees to master a number of teaching
skills.
 To enable teacher trainees to gain confidence in teaching.
 Microteaching is an experiment in the field of teacher
education.
 It is a student teaching skill training technique and not a
teaching technique or method.
Characteristics of
Microteaching
 The duration of teaching as well as number of students are
less.
 The content is divided in to smaller units which makes the
teaching easier.
 Only one teaching skill is considered at a time.
 There is a provision of immediate feedback.
 An microteaching cycle, there is facility of re-planning, re-
teaching, re-evaluation.

 It puts the teacher under the microscope.
 All the faults of the teacher are observed.
 The problems of discipline can also be controlled.

Advantages of micro-
teaching
 Micro teaching reduces the complexity of the classroom
teaching.
 It is foundation of teaching, especially student teachers.
 It is real classroom teaching.
 It increases the confidence of the learner teacher.
 It is best way to improve teaching skill among student
teachers.
 It is provide experts supervision and constructive feedback.
 It is a vehicle of continuous training for both beginners and
for senior teachers
Disadvantages of
microteaching
 It involves increased time and effort.
 The various teaching skills cannot be discriminated.
 It cannot individualize the learning of the teacher.
 No constructive feedback.
 No opportunity to re-teach the lesson to implement what is
learnt from feedback.
 It is adversial towards the students.
Limitation of
microteaching
 Involves increased time and effort.
 Costly
 It is passive process of learning by limitation.
 The various teaching skills cannot be discriminated and may
not be coordinated later.
 Cannot be used to individualize the learning of the students
teachers.

 At times, there may be no constructive feedback
 There is always the possibility of bad role models.
 Required equipment and resources for microteaching
may not be available or used
Feedback in microteaching
 Feedback is the information supplied to the individual.
 The success of microteaching depends on feedback.Which
can also be used within the process of teaching as well as
after the lesson taught.
 It is used in various forms in case of microteaching by the
supervisor, video-tape, films,T.V, Which are various sources
of feedback.

Microteaching

  • 1. Microteaching Prepared by : Snehal Kapadiya M.Sc Nursing, Mental Health Nursing
  • 2. Definition  Defined micro teaching as “A scaled down teaching encounter in class size and class time”.
  • 3. Meaning:  Microteaching means the teaching of a small unit of content to the small group of students (6-10)in a small amount of time(5-7 min).  Micro-teaching is a teacher training and faculty development technique wheryby the teacher reviews a recording of a teaching session, in order to get constructive feedback from peers/students about what has worked and what improvements can be made to their teaching technique.
  • 4. Objectives of Microteaching  To enable teacher trainees to learn and assimilate new teaching skills under controlled conditions.  To enable teacher trainees to master a number of teaching skills.  To enable teacher trainees to gain confidence in teaching.  Microteaching is an experiment in the field of teacher education.  It is a student teaching skill training technique and not a teaching technique or method.
  • 5. Characteristics of Microteaching  The duration of teaching as well as number of students are less.  The content is divided in to smaller units which makes the teaching easier.  Only one teaching skill is considered at a time.  There is a provision of immediate feedback.  An microteaching cycle, there is facility of re-planning, re- teaching, re-evaluation.
  • 6. Cont.……  It puts the teacher under the microscope.  All the faults of the teacher are observed.  The problems of discipline can also be controlled.
  • 8. Advantages of micro- teaching  Micro teaching reduces the complexity of the classroom teaching.  It is foundation of teaching, especially student teachers.  It is real classroom teaching.  It increases the confidence of the learner teacher.  It is best way to improve teaching skill among student teachers.  It is provide experts supervision and constructive feedback.  It is a vehicle of continuous training for both beginners and for senior teachers
  • 9. Disadvantages of microteaching  It involves increased time and effort.  The various teaching skills cannot be discriminated.  It cannot individualize the learning of the teacher.  No constructive feedback.  No opportunity to re-teach the lesson to implement what is learnt from feedback.  It is adversial towards the students.
  • 10. Limitation of microteaching  Involves increased time and effort.  Costly  It is passive process of learning by limitation.  The various teaching skills cannot be discriminated and may not be coordinated later.  Cannot be used to individualize the learning of the students teachers.
  • 11. Cont..  At times, there may be no constructive feedback  There is always the possibility of bad role models.  Required equipment and resources for microteaching may not be available or used
  • 12. Feedback in microteaching  Feedback is the information supplied to the individual.  The success of microteaching depends on feedback.Which can also be used within the process of teaching as well as after the lesson taught.  It is used in various forms in case of microteaching by the supervisor, video-tape, films,T.V, Which are various sources of feedback.
