Meniere's disease is an abnormality in inner ear fluid balance that causes episodic vertigo, tinnitus, and fluctuating sensorineural hearing loss. It is caused by malabsorption in the endolymphatic sac or blockage in the endolymphatic duct, resulting in endolymphatic hydrops. Management includes antihistamines, diuretics, antiemetics, a low sodium diet, and avoiding alcohol and smoking. Surgery such as endolymphatic sac decompression or vestibular nerve sectioning may be used in severe cases.

3. CAUSES
• Malabsorption in endolymphatic sac or
blockage in endolymphatic duct
• Endolymphatic hydrops (dilation of
endolymphatic space)
• Otitis media
• Head injury
• Virus

4. CLINICAL FEATURES- TRIAD
Episodic vertigo
Tinnitus
Fluctuating sensori
neural hearing loss

5. OTHER SYMPTOMS
• Headache
• Nausea / vomiting
• Nystamus

6. DIANOSIS
• H.C
• P/E
• CT/MRI
• Electronystamography : showing normal or
reduced vestibular response on affected side

7. MANAGEMENT
• Antihistamine
• Diuretic
• Antiemetic
• Anti viral
• Diet : low sodium diet
• Quite alcohol and smoke

8. Surgical management
• Endolymphatic sac decompression:
shunt or drain is inserted in endolymphatic
sac through post auricular incision.
• Vestibular nerve sectioning: cutting the nerve
prevents the brain from receiving input from
semicircular canal.
