What have you learnt from
your audience feedback?
We made a questionnaire for our target audience to fill in while watching our TV
documentary about cyber bullying. We thought of 12 questions that we would most like to get
feedback on and what were important for a documentary to be good and successful.
1. After watching the 5 minute opening of the
        documentary, would you continue watching
                          the rest?
We decided to ask this question first because we felt it was the most important thing
that could come out of our documentary - that the audience would carry on watching.
We were hoping for all yes’s to come back on this question before we handed out the
questionnaire.

                                                                        yes
                                                                        no

We came back with 100% yes answers to this question, showing
that we successfully made the first five minutes interesting
enough that the audience would carry on watching.
2. What did you like the most
                about the documentary?
We thought of asking this question out of curiosity, as we were interested to compare what
we thought we done well during filming to what the audience thought was the most
interesting.
We didn’t have any specific answers that we were hoping for back, except we were hoping
nobody had nothing that they liked.

We came back with various answers, too many to make into a graph because they
were so varied. Some people liked our vox-pops the most, others liked how we
made the title by getting people to hold up the letters to spell out ‘Banter or
Bullying?’, and others enjoyed how we filmed students walking down the stairs on
the mobiles while a voiceover told facts about cyber bullying. Overall we were very
happy with the feedback for this question and the varied answers show that we were
able to film different shots that acquired to different peoples tastes.
3. would you change anything
               about the documentary?
We wanted to see what we could have done differently within our documentary,
and also wanted to see if the audience thought we had missed anything out that
would have been good to include.
We were happy for pretty much any feedback for this question as we were happy to
know what we did wrong/could have changed to make the documentary better.

Most of our feedback was that they would not change anything about the
documentary which was good but a couple said we could have included an
interview with a victim of cyber bullying or of their family/friends to get
their point of view. During filming ideas we did have an idea to film a
‘victim’ but we decided not to as we thought we had enough interviews
already, but we understood that an interview with a victim or their family
would have been interesting for the audience to watch.
4. Do you feel that the sound
             used in the documentary suited
             the topic of the documentary?
We thought that the sound we had chosen for the background of our documentary was suitable
and were interested to know if the audience felt the same. We were hoping for the majority of our
audience to say yes as we could not think of a better sound than what we already had in our
documentary.

Again the audience came back with 100%
positive feedback and nobody said that our
                                                                 yes
no music didn’t suit the topic of the
documentary. We were pleased with the
                                                                                                feedback to this question.
5. Do you think there was a flow
              in the documentary? Was it
                    composed well?
For both of these answers we were hoping that we received positive feedback as we felt we made
the documentary flow as best as we could using fade in and outs and taking time to edit things in
certain places so it ran smoothly.

6. Does the documentary make
you more aware about the topic
                  of cyber-bullying?
As our documentary’s main aim was to make people more aware of cyber bullying than they
already were we were not only hoping for but expecting the audience to all say yes to this
question as we felt we had included all the relevant information needed within the documentary
to make people more aware of cyber bullying and how badly it could affect people.

As we expected, the audience all came back
with the answer ‘yes’ which we were happy
with as it meant we had successfully
portrayed our documentary to other people
                                                                                                    as we had wanted to.
7. What did you think about the
               quality of the interviews?

We spent a lot of time trying to make our interviews look as professional as they could do so we
decided to ask this question as we were interested to see if the time we spent making them look
professional paid off.

People came back with various answers to
this question such as, ‘they looked very
professional and look like they could be used
in a real TV documentary and ‘good use of
rule of thirds’. The only negative feedback
we got from this question was that the
interview with Nick wasn’t as good as the
one with Julie, as the background looked a
                                                                                                      little bare and staged.
8. Do you think that the radio
           trailer grabs your attention? And
                   does it link with the
                      documentary?
We choose to use a ‘victim’ in the radio trailer which had the attention of grabbing the audiences
attention more than if we just used a voiceover for the whole radio trailer, so we were intrigued
to find out if the ‘victim’ talking throughout was successful or not. We tried to make the radio
trailer link with the documentary as much as we could by including short clips from it so we
hoped for mainly positive feedback for this question.

Everyone who answered our questionnaire agreed that the radio
trailer grabs their attention because of the way the victim talks in it,
which was good feedback as it showed that although we used a
victim that wasn’t in the documentary, we still grabbed the
audiences attention. Everyone also seemed to find that it linked with
the documentary because the radio trailer is all about the seriousness
of cyber bullying just as the documentary is and people noticed how
we had used clips of vox-pops and formal interviews in our radio
trailer that had came from the documentary.
9. what do you like about the
radio trailer? And if so, is there
               anything you would change
                         about it?
We were happy to find out what people would particularly like about our radio trailer as we
didn’t have any part that we thought was better than the rest personally. We also wanted to find
out what we could have changed.

                                                     yes
                                                     no
People said that things they liked about the radio trailer were the
victim speaking, and the short clips that had came from the
documentary as they made the audience want to find out more.
Although the majority of people said they wouldn’t change anything
about the documentary, a small portion said they would have
changed the music at some point in the radio trailer, for example, at
the end if we had of speeded up the music.
10. After listening to the radio
trailer, would you want to watch
                    our documentary?

Our hope for the feedback for this question was majority of people to say yes because we tried
hard to make the radio trailer interesting so that people would want to go on to watch the
documentary. We felt this question was necessary because it would give us an idea of how well
we produced the radio trailer as the main point of it was to promote the documentary.

The article was to also promote the documentary so it was quite important that it interested the
audience, although the article was going to be put into a TV magazine, in which our target
audience are unlikely to buy as the age 13-18 would be more likely to spend their money
elsewhere, so it may be less important for the magazine article to promote the documentary than
the radio trailer, as our target audience were more likely to listen to the radio trailer than read the
article.

                                                                                                promoted the documentary well.
12. Is there anything you
                 like/dislike about the article?
We were interested to find out things that people didn’t like about the article so we were able to
learn next time what we could improve on.

The people that answered no in the previous question said that the
things they disliked about the article was the bulks of text and not
enough interesting pictures, and the people that liked the article said
they found that the text written made them increase interest the more
that they read about what the documentary was about.
Conclusion
Overall, we were really happy with the feedback we received from the questions we asked, as the majority of
it was all positive and shows that we successfully completed the tasks in the way we should have.
Any negative feedback we received we have taken in to account and understand where the audience is
coming from, and we will consider it next time. It was helpful to find out what we could have improved on.

What have youlearnt from your audience feedback?
  • 2.
We made aquestionnaire for our target audience to fill in while watching our TV documentary about cyber bullying. We thought of 12 questions that we would most like to get feedback on and what were important for a documentary to be good and successful.
  • 3.
    1. After watchingthe 5 minute opening of the documentary, would you continue watching the rest? We decided to ask this question first because we felt it was the most important thing that could come out of our documentary - that the audience would carry on watching. We were hoping for all yes’s to come back on this question before we handed out the questionnaire. yes no We came back with 100% yes answers to this question, showing that we successfully made the first five minutes interesting enough that the audience would carry on watching.
  • 4.
    2. What didyou like the most about the documentary? We thought of asking this question out of curiosity, as we were interested to compare what we thought we done well during filming to what the audience thought was the most interesting. We didn’t have any specific answers that we were hoping for back, except we were hoping nobody had nothing that they liked. We came back with various answers, too many to make into a graph because they were so varied. Some people liked our vox-pops the most, others liked how we made the title by getting people to hold up the letters to spell out ‘Banter or Bullying?’, and others enjoyed how we filmed students walking down the stairs on the mobiles while a voiceover told facts about cyber bullying. Overall we were very happy with the feedback for this question and the varied answers show that we were able to film different shots that acquired to different peoples tastes.

    3. would youchange anything about the documentary? We wanted to see what we could have done differently within our documentary, and also wanted to see if the audience thought we had missed anything out that would have been good to include. We were happy for pretty much any feedback for this question as we were happy to know what we did wrong/could have changed to make the documentary better. Most of our feedback was that they would not change anything about the documentary which was good but a couple said we could have included an interview with a victim of cyber bullying or of their family/friends to get their point of view. During filming ideas we did have an idea to film a ‘victim’ but we decided not to as we thought we had enough interviews already, but we understood that an interview with a victim or their family would have been interesting for the audience to watch.

    4. Do youfeel that the sound used in the documentary suited the topic of the documentary? We thought that the sound we had chosen for the background of our documentary was suitable and were interested to know if the audience felt the same. We were hoping for the majority of our audience to say yes as we could not think of a better sound than what we already had in our documentary. Again the audience came back with 100% positive feedback and nobody said that our yes no music didn’t suit the topic of the documentary. We were pleased with the feedback to this question.

    5. Do youthink there was a flow in the documentary? Was it composed well? For both of these answers we were hoping that we received positive feedback as we felt we made the documentary flow as best as we could using fade in and outs and taking time to edit things in certain places so it ran smoothly. 16 14 12 10 8 Series1 6 4 We received all positive feedback for this 2 question which we were pleased about. 0 yes no

    6. Does thedocumentary make you more aware about the topic of cyber-bullying? As our documentary’s main aim was to make people more aware of cyber bullying than they already were we were not only hoping for but expecting the audience to all say yes to this question as we felt we had included all the relevant information needed within the documentary to make people more aware of cyber bullying and how badly it could affect people. As we expected, the audience all came back with the answer ‘yes’ which we were happy with as it meant we had successfully portrayed our documentary to other people as we had wanted to.

    7. What didyou think about the quality of the interviews? We spent a lot of time trying to make our interviews look as professional as they could do so we decided to ask this question as we were interested to see if the time we spent making them look professional paid off. People came back with various answers to this question such as, ‘they looked very professional and look like they could be used in a real TV documentary and ‘good use of rule of thirds’. The only negative feedback we got from this question was that the interview with Nick wasn’t as good as the one with Julie, as the background looked a little bare and staged.

    8. Do youthink that the radio trailer grabs your attention? And does it link with the documentary? We choose to use a ‘victim’ in the radio trailer which had the attention of grabbing the audiences attention more than if we just used a voiceover for the whole radio trailer, so we were intrigued to find out if the ‘victim’ talking throughout was successful or not. We tried to make the radio trailer link with the documentary as much as we could by including short clips from it so we hoped for mainly positive feedback for this question. Everyone who answered our questionnaire agreed that the radio trailer grabs their attention because of the way the victim talks in it, which was good feedback as it showed that although we used a victim that wasn’t in the documentary, we still grabbed the audiences attention. Everyone also seemed to find that it linked with the documentary because the radio trailer is all about the seriousness of cyber bullying just as the documentary is and people noticed how we had used clips of vox-pops and formal interviews in our radio trailer that had came from the documentary.

    9. what doyou like about the radio trailer? And if so, is there anything you would change about it? We were happy to find out what people would particularly like about our radio trailer as we didn’t have any part that we thought was better than the rest personally. We also wanted to find out what we could have changed. yes no People said that things they liked about the radio trailer were the victim speaking, and the short clips that had came from the documentary as they made the audience want to find out more. Although the majority of people said they wouldn’t change anything about the documentary, a small portion said they would have changed the music at some point in the radio trailer, for example, at the end if we had of speeded up the music.

    10. After listeningto the radio trailer, would you want to watch our documentary? Our hope for the feedback for this question was majority of people to say yes because we tried hard to make the radio trailer interesting so that people would want to go on to watch the documentary. We felt this question was necessary because it would give us an idea of how well we produced the radio trailer as the main point of it was to promote the documentary. 16 14 12 10 Everyone answered yes to this 8 Series1 question, that they would watch the 6 documentary after listening to the 4 trailer, showing we successfully 2 promoted the documentary through the 0 things we included in the trailer. yes no

    11. Does thearticle interest you? The article was to also promote the documentary so it was quite important that it interested the audience, although the article was going to be put into a TV magazine, in which our target audience are unlikely to buy as the age 13-18 would be more likely to spend their money elsewhere, so it may be less important for the magazine article to promote the documentary than the radio trailer, as our target audience were more likely to listen to the radio trailer than read the article. A small portion of our audience said that the documentary didn’t interest them as the four block paragraphs yes needed to be broken up by more no pictures, and they also said that the pictures weren’t interesting enough. The majority of people said the article did interest them because of what the text described about the documentary. This shows that we needed more photos that linked better to the documentary but what was written in the article itself promoted the documentary well.

    12. Is thereanything you like/dislike about the article? We were interested to find out things that people didn’t like about the article so we were able to learn next time what we could improve on. The people that answered no in the previous question said that the things they disliked about the article was the bulks of text and not enough interesting pictures, and the people that liked the article said they found that the text written made them increase interest the more that they read about what the documentary was about.
