This document summarizes research on using recurrent neural networks and deep learning for intrusion detection. It first provides background on intrusion detection systems and their types. It then discusses how deep learning approaches like recurrent neural networks can help address limitations of traditional machine learning methods for intrusion detection. The document reviews several related studies on intrusion detection using techniques like autoencoders, decision trees, and LSTM-RNNs. It proposes using a recurrent neural network model trained on the NSL-KDD dataset for intrusion detection, claiming this deep learning approach can improve classification accuracy compared to traditional machine learning methods.

A method and a system for the detection of an intrusion in a computer network compare the network traffic of the computer network at multiple different points in the network. In an uncompromised network the network traffic monitored at these two different points in the network should be identical. The existing Software Defined Network SDN proposes the separation of forward and control planes by introducing a new independent plane called network controller. Machine learning is an artificial intelligence approach that focuses on acquiring knowledge from raw data and, based at least in part on the identified flow, selectively causing the packet, or a packet descriptor associated with the packet. The performance is evaluated using the network analysis metrics such as key generation delay, key sharing delay and the hash code generation time for both SDN and the proposed machine learning SDN. The growing prevalence of network attacks is a well-known problem which can impact the availability, confidentiality, and integrity of critical information for both individuals and enterprises. In this paper, we propose a real-time intrusion detection approach using a supervised machine learning technique. Our approach is simple and efficient, and can be used with many machine learning techniques. We applied different well-known machine learning techniques to evaluate the performance of our IDS approach. Our experimental results show that the Decision Tree technique can outperform the other techniques. Therefore, we further developed a real-time intrusion detection system (RT-IDS) using the Decision Tree technique to classify on-line network data as normal or attack data. We also identified 12 essential features of network data which are relevant to detecting network attacks using the information gain as our feature selection criterions. Our RT-IDS can distinguish normal network activities from main attack types (Probe and Denial of Service (DoS)) with a detection rate higher than 98% within 2 s. We also developed a new post-processing procedure to reduce the false-alarm rate as well as increase the reliability and detection accuracy of the intrusion detection system.

Intrusion Detection System (IDS) has been an effective way to achieve higher security in detecting malicious activities for the past couple of years. Anomaly detection is an intrusion detection system. Current anomaly detection is often associated with high false alarm rates and only moderate accuracy and detection rates because it’s unable to detect all types of attacks correctly. An experiment is carried out to evaluate the performance of the different machine learning algorithms using KDD-99 Cup and NSL-KDD datasets. Results show which approach has performed better in term of accuracy, detection rate with reasonable false alarm rate.

In recent years, wireless sensor network (WSN) is used in several application areas resembling observance, tracking, and dominant in IoTs. for several applications of WSN, security is a crucial demand. However, security solutions in WSN disagree from ancient networks because of resource limitation and process constraints. This paper analyzes security solutions: TinySec, IEEE 802.15.4, SPINS, MiniSEC, LSec, LLSP, LISA, and LISP in WSN. This paper additionally presents characteristics, security needs, attacks, cryptography algorithms, and operation modes. This paper is taken into account to be helpful for security designers in WSNs.
When talk about intrusion, then it is pre- assume
that the intrusion is happened or it is stopped by the intrusion
detection system. This is all done through the process of collection
of network traffic information at certain point of networks in the
digital system. In this way the IDS perform their job to secure the
network. There are two types of Intrusion Detection: First is
Misuse based detection and second one is Anomaly based detection.
The detection which uses data set of known predefined set of
attacks is called Misuse - Based IDSs and Anomaly based IDSs are
capable of detecting new attacks which are not known to previous
data set of attacks and is based on some new heuristic methods. In
our hybrid IDS for computer network security we use Min-Min
algorithm with neural network in hybrid method for improving
performance of higher level of IDS in network. Data releasing is
the problem for privacy point of view, so we first evaluate training
for error from neural network regression state, after that we can get

In this research work an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) will be implemented to detect and prevent critical networks infrastructure from cyber-attacks. To strengthen network security and improve the network's active defense intrusion detection capabilities, this project will consist of intrusion detection system using honey token based encrypted pointers and intrusion prevention system which based on the mixed interactive honeypot. The Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is based on the novel approach of Honey Token based Encrypted Pointers. This honey token inside the frame will serve as a trap for the attacker. All nodes operating within the working domain of critical infrastructure network are divided into four different pools. This division is based per their computational power and level of vulnerability. These pools are provided with different levels of security measures within the network. IDS use different number of Honey Tokens (HT) per frame for every different pool e.g. Pool-A contains 4 HT/frame, Pool-B contains 3 HT/frame, Pool-C contains 2 HT/frame and Pool-D contain 1 HT/frame. Moreover, every pool uses different types of encryption schemes (AES-128,192,256). Our critical infrastructure network of 64 nodes is under the umbrella of unified security provided by this single Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS). After the design phase of IDS, we analyze the performance of IDS in terms of True Positives (TP) and False Negatives (FN). Finally, we test these IDS through Network Penetration Testing (NPT) phase. The detection rate depends on the number of honey tokens per frame. Our proposed IDS are a scalable solution and it can be implemented for any number of nodes in critical infrastructure network. However, in case of Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) we use Virtual honeypot technology which is the best active prevention technology among all honeypot technologies. By using the original operating system and virtual technology, the honeypot lures attackers in a pre-arranged manner, analyzes and audits various attacking behavior, tracks the attack source, obtains evidence, and finds effective solutions.

IDSs. Although they are effective to some extent in identifying new patterns and variants of existing

detecting malicious domains based on passive traffic measurements. In this paper, an anomaly-based
intrusion detection system based on an ensemble based machine learning classifier called Random Forest
with gradient boosting is deployed. NSL-KDD cup dataset is used for analysis and out of 41 features, 32
features were identified as significant using feature discretion. Our observations confirm the conjecture
that both the feature selection and stochastic based genetic operators improves the accuracy and the
effectiveness. The training time is shown to be reduced tremendously by 98.59% and accuracy improved to
98.75%.

An intrusion detection system for packet and flow based networks using deep n...IJECEIAES
Study on deep neural networks and big data is merging now by several aspects to enhance the capabilities of intrusion detection system (IDS). Many IDS models has been introduced to provide security over big data. This study focuses on the intrusion detection in computer networks using big datasets. The advent of big data has agitated the comprehensive assistance in cyber security by forwarding a brunch of affluent algorithms to classify and analysis patterns and making a better prediction more efficiently. In this study, to detect intrusion a detection model has been propounded applying deep neural networks. We applied the suggested model on the latest dataset available at online, formatted with packet based, flow based data and some additional metadata. The dataset is labeled and imbalanced with 79 attributes and some classes having much less training samples compared to other classes. The proposed model is build using Keras and Google Tensorflow deep learning environment. Experimental result shows that intrusions are detected with the accuracy over 99% for both binary and multiclass classification with selected best features. Receiver operating characteristics (ROC) and precision-recall curve average score is also 1. The outcome implies that Deep Neural Networks offers a novel research model with great accuracy for intrusion detection model, better than some models presented in the literature.
A combined approach to search for evasion techniques in network intrusion det...eSAT Journals
Abstract Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS) whose base is signature, works on the signature of attacks. They must be updated quickly in order to prevent the system from new attacks. The attacker finds out new evasion techniques so that he should remain undetected. As the new evasion techniques are being developed it becomes difficult for NIDS to give accurate results and NIDS may fail. The key aspect of our paper is to develop a network intrusion detection system using C4.5 algorithm where Adaboost algorithm is used to classify the packet as normal packet or attack packet and also to further classify different types of attack. Apriori algorithm is used to find real time evasion and to generate rules to find intrusion These rules are further given as input to Snort intrusion detection system for detecting different attacks. Network intrusion detection often finds a difficulty in creating classifiers that could handle unequal

A survey of Network Intrusion Detection using soft computing Techniqueijsrd.com
with the impending era of internet, the network security has become the key foundation for lot of financial and business application. Intrusion detection is one of the looms to resolve the problem of network security. An Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is a program that analyses what happens or has happened during an execution and tries to find indications that the computer has been misused. Here we propose a new approach by utilizing neuro fuzzy and support vector machine with fuzzy genetic algorithm for higher rate of detection.
Evaluation of network intrusion detection using markov chainIJCI JOURNAL
Day today life internet threat has been increased significantly. There is a need to develop model in order to
maintain security of system. The most effective techniques are Intrusion Detection System (IDS).The
purpose of intrusion system through the security devices detect and deal with it. In this paper, a
mathematical approach is used effectively to predict and detect intrusion in the network. Here we discuss
about two algorithms ‘K-Means + Apriori’, a method which classify normal and abnormal activities in
computer network. In K-Means process, it partitions the training set into K-clusters using Euclidean
distance and introduce an outlier factor, then it build Apriori Algorithm to prune the data by removing
infrequent data in the database. Based on defined state the degree of incoming data is evaluated through
the experiment using sample DARPA2000 dataset, and achieves high detection performance in level of
attack in stages.

Communication networks are essential and it will create many crucial issues today. Nowadays, we
consider that the firewalls are the first line of defense but that policies cannot meet the particular
requirements of needed process to achieve security. Most of the research has been done in this area but
we are lagging to achieve security needs. Already many models such as ADAM, DHP, LERAD and
ENTROPHY are proposed to resolve security problems but we need an efficient model to detect new types
of various intrusions within the entire network. In this paper, we proposed to design a modernized
intrusion detection system which consist of two methods such as anomaly and misuse detection. Both are
integrated and also used to detect novel attacks. Our system proposed to discover temporal pattern of
attacker behaviors, which is profiled using an algorithm EAA (Enhanced Apriori Algorithm). This is

A Novel Classification via Clustering Method for Anomaly Based Network Intrus...IDES Editor
Intrusion detection in the internet is an active
area of research. Intruders can be classified into two
types, namely; external intruders who are unauthorized
users of the computers they attack, and internal
intruders, who have permission to access the system but
with some restrictions. The aim of this paper is to present
a methodology to recognize attacks during the normal
activities in a system. A novel classification via sequential
information bottleneck (sIB) clustering algorithm has
been proposed to build an efficient anomaly based
network intrusion detection model. We have compared
our proposed method with other clustering algorithms
like X-Means, Farthest First, Filtered clusters, DBSCAN,
K-Means, and EM (Expectation-Maximization)
clustering in order to find the suitability of our proposed
algorithm. A subset of KDDCup 1999 intrusion detection
benchmark dataset has been used for the experiment.
Results show that the proposed method is efficient in
terms of detection accuracy, low false positive rate in
comparison to the other existing methods.

Courier management system project report.pdfKamal Acharya
It is now-a-days very important for the people to send or receive articles like imported furniture, electronic items, gifts, business goods and the like. People depend vastly on different transport systems which mostly use the manual way of receiving and delivering the articles. There is no way to track the articles till they are received and there is no way to let the customer know what happened in transit, once he booked some articles. In such a situation, we need a system which completely computerizes the cargo activities including time to time tracking of the articles sent. This need is fulfilled by Courier Management System software which is online software for the cargo management people that enables them to receive the goods from a source and send them to a required destination and track their status from time to time.
