Key Components and Players Involved in Effective City...
Discuss Key Components and Players involved in effective city planning and innovative planning
practices. Include in your discussion issues that arrive concerning eminent domain. Discuss how the
no growth movement influences city growth.
Introduction
Throughout history, one of the major themes has been the migration of people from the country into
the city. This is because many urban centers have greater amounts of opportunity and there are more
services available. During this process, is when a number of regions started to experience increasing
levels of population growth. To accommodate new residents different parcels of land surrounding the
city are utilized. Over the short term, this addressed the immediate growth needs of the region.
However, after longer periods of time, is when the lack of planning led to disorganized pockets of
growth. This depleted natural resources and exposed many of these areas to potential natural disasters
(such as: flooding, landslides or major storms). (United Nations Human Settlement Programs, 2009,
pp. 45 68) To prevent these kinds of issues, most cities need to focus on effective planning and
innovative practices. This will create more stable economic growth and ensure that every part of the
city receives the same kind of services. To achieve these objectives requires examining the various
components and players involved in the process. Together, these elements will offer the greatest
insights as to how cities should strategize and

Types Of The Human Host
All bacteria require certain amounts of transition metals to sustain life. These metals are necessary to
carry out important metabolic processes in the cell. Among other things, transition metals can act as
cofactors and they can be incorporated into metalloenzymes, transcription factors and storage proteins
(10). A. baumannii requires efficient mechanisms to acquire these transition metals, especially when
confined in a human host. The human host carries an abundant amount of metals that can be harnessed
by invading pathogens. To hinder a bacterium s exploitation of these metals, the human host employs
a variety of techniques collectively termed nutritional immunity (10). For instance, calprotectin (CP)
in the host chelates intracellular stores of manganese (Mn) and zinc (Zn) to inhibit bacterial growth
[5]. All pathogens require essential metals such as iron to sustain life. Iron is a significant component
in oxidative phosphorylation, contributing to ATP production (21). The human host also sequesters
iron via various mechanisms in an attempt to further inhibit bacterial growth. These iron limitation
strategies include storing iron intracellularly by complexing it to ferritin, serum transferrin and
lactoferrin in mucosal surfaces (10). In the blood, iron is also complexed to heme (10). Even when a
red blood cell is lysed, hemoglobin is quickly bound by haptoglabin and free heme is bound by
hemeopexin (Hpx), further limiting A. baumannii s access to iron (10).

Legg-Calve Perthes Research Paper
Legg Calve Perthes is a disease that only affects children. Boys are five times more likely to contract
this disease, but girls have found to have more severe cases. It is unknown to why children get this
disease, but the condition tends to be more common to those exposed to second hand smoke. Children
who have this disease will more than likely to have arthritis in the area when they are older. It occurs
when the blood supply (ischemia) to the head of the femur (the ball) is cut off and the head begins to
die (avascular necrosis). It is a temporary disease, because after the head of the femur collapses a new
one will regenerate back to a normal hip. This disease will cause pain and can cause a limp in those
affected. Doctors can use MRI s, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The earliest sign or what a doctor would look for in this disease is that the person will have a limp. It
may even be a painless limp. There could be pain in the anterior part of the thigh or knee. There have
been cases where the child has had pain concentrated only in the hip area and nowhere else in the leg.
An article from the National Osteonecrosis Foundation says, ...often you will first notice limping
during your child s active play . The child usually will not be able to pinpoint the exact moment when
they got injured, or exactly where the pain is if it towards the knee area. The patient also could
experience a limited range of motion or stiffness in the affected area. Symptoms described to the
doctors would also be pain can be experienced with internal rotation and abduction of the joint, and
also in the gluteus medius. Other places other than the hip joint that can experience pain is the groin,
thigh, or knee, but the most common symptom in LCPD is persistent pain in the hip joint. The pain is
usually aggravated during activity, so kids who are very active would experience more pain than a kid
who sits most of the day. A symptom that would be described to the doctor would also be pain that
goes away with rest. Children with LCPD may complain of muscle spasms of the legs, and the patient
could experience the loss of muscle mass in the quadriceps. In emergency situations the child may
even experience a fever

Logical Fallacy Julius Caesar
Generalization is quite similar to satire, they both acknowledge the truth and specify the events/cases.
Which is great for essays because in most cases you have to state a truth based off of specific events
and be able to support it with evidence. Ex. 1: Cats are meaner than dogs. Ex. 2: Most people find
church boring. Ex. 3: Homework is easy. http://examples.yourdictionary.com/examples of

order to dupe their audiences. Use: Logical fallacy was used in Julius Caesar when Antony and Brutus

Use: Red herring is great to be used for political speeches, and I m sure political speakers use this
technique. Ex. 1: I failed my math test but scored a 1350 on my SAT. Ex. 2: I m dropping out of a
public college to join Harvard University. Ex. 3: I m quitting my job at the vet clinic to open my own

involves bitter, caustic language that is meant to hurt or ridicule someone or something. Use: Sarcasm
is a form of tone that gives a voice to the author or authors character. It can also be used in a funny,
humorous way. Ex.1 : woah, why is there someone who looks, speaks, has powers and likes eggos like
El? What are the odds!!!!!? Ex. 2: you really want to revisit this? Ex. 3: wow!!! You are so good at
that. Satire: is when an author uses exaggeration, humor, and irony to criticize something about a
person or society. Use: Satire can be used in an argumentative writing piece to help the author grasp
his audience when exaggerating a political or historical event, etc. Ex. 1: Pete would not stop
discussing the culinary program so we decided as a class to get him peanut butter so he would stop.
Ex. 2: Ana is a sweet girl that is crazy smart at math but for some reason she can t figure out 7x 8=x.

A Career In My Life
Just how I came to Irvine, California, can only be traced to Divine Providence. Originally, I was a
drama major at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois. I had been bitten by the acting
bug after a successful year of speech and drama at McKinley High School in Canton, Ohio. Although
my interests were diverse, I figured that a career in the entertainment field would be a launching pad
into the arena I desired most: world wide in¬fluence. My stay at Wesleyan was riddled with
disappointment. Here I was an energetic freshman drama major with loads of talent and optimism,
only to find main stage acting was unavailable until our sophomore year. The featured drama my

before quitting the Drama School and bringing charges of racism against the department. My letter to
twenty four Univer¬sity regents caused quite a stir, but was eventually dismissed and I left in a huff.
Getting into the University of California in Irvine took some doing. I fled Wesleyan with a D grade
point average. I withdrew from one class and received an F in two other classes, but received an A in
my speech class. I gave my speech final on Why I was leaving Wesleyan. Even though I went fifteen
minutes over the speech limit, (and we were warned to never do that in her class,) the teacher gave me
the top grade for my inexorable passion. When my application to UCI was rejected that summer on
the basis of poor grades, I used my usual rhetoric to get my foot in the door. Then came the million
dollar question: Where are you going to get the money to pay for tuition? asked the Dean of
Admissions. Armed with a barrage of words, I looked him in the eyes and questioned how an
educational in stitution could deny any red blooded American student an opportunity for higher
learning on a technicality like lack of money. I ended with: Do you want to see a 4.0? The Dean of
Admissions said that the committee would recon¬sider my application, and after I hung up I said,

Elihu In The Book Of Job
Suffering is so perverse in our world that we may even call it a part of the natural human condition.
No one is exempt from experiencing one form of hardship or another at any point in life. What then is
the ideal purpose of these afflictions ? Aligning with Christian belief, I assume that God, beyond being
both powerful and knowledgeable, is also compassionate. As one who is as St. Augustine calls him
Goodness itself , how does God transform sufferings, commonly perceived to be evil, to become
something good? To answer this question, I turn to the speeches of Elihu in the Book of Job. Unlike
Job s other friends, Elihu argues that humans have much to gain from sufferings. Additionally, I will

Tell me, if you have understanding. (Job 38:4, New Revised Standard Version)
When God appeared and spoke to Job, he talks about how he has not only created but also maintained
the world. God makes decisions in a bigger context and focuses on the underlying mechanisms that
allow life to exist on this world. Faith tells us to trust in this better judgment that has conquered the
test of time, as he has sustained us from creation until today.
God spoke about his creations and how he manages to sustain them every day. This shows that God is
a god of life by the way he tends to the natural world. While there are many things that we do not
know about God, what we do know is that as a God of life, he seeks to offer life to us by guiding us to
humble ourselves, reject sins, and repent. One way he does so is through sufferings, which may be
interpreted as injustice, punishment or death, when it is actually nothing more than another step

Self Destruction Of Abortion Research Paper
Self destruction or Abortion?
There are many things in this world that people have different views on, but this topic, I feel, is a very
controversial one that causes a lot of dispute. I feel that if you are a victim of rape then you should
have the right to have abortion be one of your options.
This should be acceptable because most likely, the molested will have PTSD and having a product of
that situation around will only make it worse. I think I speak for everyone when I say that you wouldn
t want to have a child that would remind you of that horrible time in your life every time that you look
at them. That would make your child s life even harder, to have a mother who is disgusted by their
own offspring. Also, your psychological problems, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It should be your decision as to whether or not you want to bring your nightmares back to life and
continue out the pregnancy. No one should be able to decide your future for you, you determine how
you want to live your life. Furthermore, these rape victims may not be at a point in their lives where
they are able to financially support themselves and a baby, which could be the reason why they don t
already have kids, and now one is being forced upon them. Honestly, I feel like the worst thing that
could ever happen is to being put in a situation that you know you can t handle. Nobody choses to get
raped, and rape is always a traumatic experience. A poll taken by the Gallup Organization in 1989
indicated that 81 percent of Americans approved of abortion in cases of rape or incest and 75 percent
approved if carrying the pregnancy to term would damage the mother s health. If more than half of the
population that voted agreed that it was acceptable 26 years ago, then why are people today so against
it? Because of those opposed to abortion [they] were able to chip away at the availability of that
procedure.

Model for Predicting Employee Resignation BIMS has developed a model for predicting employee
resignation and turnover. After reviewing the surveys as well as the exit interviews; BIMS has
developed a model based on logistics regression and then analyzing the turnover. They have
developed five hypotheses from previous research of the effects of different factors affecting
resignations and turnovers. The first hypothesis is based on the length that an employee has been with
BIMS and that the more time invested in the company, the less likely they will resign. The belief is
that increased tenure strengthens the propensity for employees to remain. The second hypothesis is
that higher performing employees are less likely to resign than average to lower performing
employees. One way to ensure higher performance is to implement a contingent reward system. In the
event of continued low performance from certain employees, BIMS must be aware of the withdraw
process: a major reduction in performance, possibly to unacceptable levels, and ending with
resignation. The third hypothesis

What Is Nike Competitive Advantage
The Nike corporation uses a mix diversity in product to help emphasizes its generic strategy for
competitive advantage.Obliiously, this is a prime example of how a business goes about achieving,
maintaining, accomplishing, and dominant in competiveness. While the Nike organization does focus
on intensive growth strategies it also uses research development and other innovations. In which this
would be another good example of what and how they make strives to grow the company for its
advancement. It would be fair to say that the Nike Corporation is one of the most top recognized
brands in the shoe, apparel, and sports equipment in the market and has remained a forerunner in the
United States as well as across the globe.
The Nike Corporation is able to retain and keep its position and competitive advantage by ensuring
that its generic and intensive growth strategies are interlocked to the company s business well being.
While reviewing the Nike Corporation I learned that Nike used a combination of strategies for its
competitive advantage. While the top two of those are cost leadership and differentiation strategy.
Nike sustains competitive advantage based on cost strictly due to the company minimizing production
cost so they are able to maximize profitability or even able to lower the selling prices. In this alone
shows the real power of a winning strategy it is a strong factor in the company s competitiveness.

for the exhibit includes plexiglass, sintra, plywood, glass, metal, quartz like material, and plastic

The signage and wall text was mostly white with boarders of the section s theme color and the texts in
black. Many of the signs and wall pieces had objects (gears, headphone, and cystoscopes) printed into
paper behind the pexiglass. The base of the case hold the artifacts were metal and the covering for the
cases was made of glass. The Hartford section used dark orange, brownish orange, and lighter orange.
The additional color used for signage and wall text where white with black text which made it easier
for the guest to read in the low lighting. The color orange is associated with creativity, change and
determination. This goes well with the tone of the Hartford section because it discusses the 1800s in a
factory town where the boom of the industrial revolution was taking place, a time of intense creativity
and change. In the Medical Alley section the design team used red. This section discussed medical

Police Officers As Beacon For Justice
In the past the media portrayed police officers as beacon for justice. Based on personal experiences,
until about the 1990 s every little boy growing up wanted to be the good guy. However in today s new
popular culture, young boys are no longer arguing over who gets to be the good guy. The villain is
now seen as a viable option. The difference in views comes from the mass media; police officers are
now being represented in a more negative characteristic. Some police portrayals show the police as
being just as corrupted or evil as the criminals they are supposed to be apprehending. This illustrate
the mass media have an influence that goes far beyond their role in the entertainment industry. Police
have been portrayed negatively in the media for quite some time and it seems to be getting worse.
Music, social media, and even the news have a negative impact on the way police are being viewed. In
fact, now anyone with a smart phone or other type of digital recording can capture police officers at
their worse adding to the tainted image of our law enforcement agents. For instance, a Fort Worth
police officer was videoed taped using pepper spray on a group of motorcyclists as they rode past him

Many studies have been conducted in investigating sophistication of its cognitive processes in recent

In the recent decades, this theory of high intelligence has gone under much research and

such as spatial reasoning and memory, these corvids prove less competent in the areas like contextual

1Ans) Intellectual property right gives credit to the original work done by the people .The law
the creative work of the people from coping or imitating without their permission. There are
three main things that protect the intellectual right .They are copyrights, patents and trademarks.
As the technology increases instead of thinking newly ,people are choosing a alternative or easy
way of imitating the other works and showing as their own work .
Here are few examples of violating the intellectual property rights:
1.)A Beijing court in china has ruled that Microsoft violated intellectual properties of a Chinese
company. Violation was over fonts that are used in previous versions of windows operating
system, which lead Microsoft to stop selling versions of windows that use Chinese fonts.
There are violations of pirated copies of windows that are been selling in China. There was
an agreement of using fonts in windows from Zhongyi s intellectual property. But Zhongyi
appealed that the agreement was for Windows 95 only but not for other versions of windows.

Operation Bodyguard Research Paper
Operation Bodyguard was the code name for a World War II deception plan employed by the Allied
states before the 1944 invasion of north west Europe. The plan was intended to mislead the German
high command as to the time and place of the invasion.
From January 1942 until the end of the war in Europe in 1945, FBI agents and radio technicians lived
and worked undercover, secretly transmitting coded messages that the Nazis believed came from their
own spies operating in New York. The Nazis believed their operatives were funneling significant
details about U.S. forces, munitions, and war preparations. But in fact, the transmissions were

Kant s Philosophy On Moral Philosophy
Immanuel Kant presented his most notable positions on moral philosophy in his book The
Groundwork of Metaphysics of Morals. Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel subsequently presented a
number of objections to Kant s positions, mainly in his book The Phenomenology of Spirit. Hegel
presents objections to Kant in two different ways, implicitly and explicitly. Hegel gives arguments
against Kant s moral theory as well as the general philosophical thought that produces the moral
theory that Kant presents. But in order to understand Hegel s critique of Kant, we must first
understand the content of Kant s moral philosophy and its formulation.
Kant s Moral Philosophy
The crux of Kant s moral philosophy comes from the idea that morality is derived from rationality
rational thought leads us to an objective morality. Kant is looking to pure reason as a guide to find
universally binding moral laws. If this is true, and reason can determine whether a maxim can become
a universal law of moral behavior without appeal to experience, then this would have profound
implications for moral philosophy. Kant will argue for this through the categorical imperative.
In the Groundwork, Kant will propose the existence of the categorical imperative of morality. A
categorical imperative is a moral principle that must be followed unconditionally. This is the criterion
to which maxims should conform. Maxim, as defined by Kant, is the subjective principle of willing.

other paths. Dante Alighieri, born in Florence, Italy in 1265, was born into a very power hungry age.
Morality was not very high on someone s to do list. In the Divine Comedy Dante makes a point of
writing about those that have done him wrong and placing them where the belong . But Dante does not
only expose the bad people in his life but the bad people all over the world and he also includes
himself. Dante writes his book to scare others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Justice the founder of my fabric moved: To rear me was the task of Power divine, Supremest Wisdom,
and primeval Love. Before me things create were none, save things Eternal, and eternal I endure. All
hope abandon, ye who enter here. This phrase needed to be proclaimed for the story to go on because
it established the road for the poem. The phrase divulges that Hell is almost like a city where there is
interminable pain and suffering and anguish. In Hell there are nine circles and each of those circles is

unbaptized and virtuous pagans are grieving all day every day from not being with God. The second
circle was for the lustful who are blown around by a never ending and violent wind. In the fifth circle
are the Wrathful which contain those who were angry and did not let things go. In the fifth circle is a
man named Filippo Argenti, a man who Dante hated and wished more punishment upon. Dante got his
wish. Circle VI embodies the Heretics and where Farinata, Dante s enemy in politics, resides. Both
Filippo and Farinata did Dante wrong but that is not the only reason they ended up in Hell. They
ended up there because they sinned and the punishment fit their sins. Dante not only punished the

Theist Argument
One of the first ways a theist might respond to this argument is by denying premise 1 because one
might claim that Rowe has given no sufficient reason to believe that it is true. All that has been solved
the theist believes is that there is evil in the world and that we don t know why or what the good is that
can justify God in permitting such evil (Rowe, 2004, p.7). This line of argument is also known as the
argument from ignorance. Could we, the theist argues, even comprehend the goods which permit
much of this horrendous suffering given the infinite transcendence of Gods mind? (Rowe, 2004, p.7).
They give the analogy of a parent and child. In the analogy, God is likened to us the way a loving
parent is to their child. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, there is the problem of geography where suffering from natural disasters could have
been more evenly distributed around the world by God, at present it is only happening in certain
regions, most predominantly the third world countries (Tattersall, 2015, p.4). There is also the problem
of quantity, the quantity of natural evil in our world is far too much to be explained by the
advantageous effects of showing human virtues such as courage, compassion and love (Tattersall,
2015, p.4). Thus, it can be suggested that the evidential problem of evil does in fact show that evil is
evidence against the belief in God, although it does not disprove his existence as this is not what I
have set out to do here, it does significantly lower the probability that there is a God. We can therefore
agree with Russel that: Because the hypotheses which are offered to save theism are unlikely on what
we know, theism is defenseless against the evidential arguments from evil (Russell, 1996,

Violation Of Human Rights In Labor In Afghanistan
Yes, [the child workers] complain of pain, but what can they do? The kids are here to make a living.
They bear all the pain to do all the work, are the haunting words of the Kabul, brick kiln manager,
Sher Khan. In Afghanistan, children are being exploited, forced to work in harsh conditions and
without any governmental protection. This oppression is a violation of human rights through labor.
Throughout history, we have seen an exploitation violating human rights in labor work through events
and times like feudalism, the Industrial Revolution, Chinese labor camps, and even today in places
like Afghanistan, people have continuously violated human rights through labor work.
The first example Violating human rights in labor work occurred in Feudalism. The peasants were not
free. They were required to stay with the land and had to work several days a week for the lord of the
manor. There were some free peasants, but most did not leave their lord. The lord would rent out his
land to the peasants in exchange for economic labor. The serfs were bound to the land they couldn t
leave without the lord s permission, they were mostly slaves, they had to work long hours just to
provide for their family. Serfs and peasants were mistreated and their human rights were taken from
them having to work and be treated like slaves. It connects back to the event in Afghanistan, where all
the kids are forced to work without having a choice, and being put into work labor. My smaller

Impacts of Service-Learning on College Students Essay
The functional area of service learning is currently emerging as an acknowledged department at an
institution of higher education. The theoretical roots of service learning go back to John Dewey, and
the early twentieth century. However, current research on service learning pedagogy dates back only
to the early 1990 s. Best practices for the field are still being created as more and more new offices are
springing up on campuses throughout the United States and institutions internationally. The reason this
functional area is becoming ever popular is due to the positive impact it has on students and most all
educational outcomes.
Service learning is considered both academic and co curricular. Academic service learning is credit

The biggest impact is with the students civic engagement. However, outcomes of service learning do
not end there. Outcomes of service learning range from academic to moral to life skills and all
outcomes that fall within (Eyler Giles, 1999).
Academic Outcomes
Some of the academic based outcomes of college that are impacted by service learning include
knowledge application, content understanding, critical thinking, and even grade point average. Astin
and Sax (1998) identified ten academic outcomes affected by service participation, and all ten were
positively affected by service. In their study, grade point average, retention, aspirations for educational
degrees, graduate school prep, general knowledge, discipline knowledge, time devoted to studying,
extra credit, and faculty contact all showed varying increases due to service participation.
Eyler and Giles (1999) discuss how students in their study perceived themselves to identify social
issues easier due to service learning participation, which is the first step in critical thinking ability.
Students were also more likely to think critically about these social issues when their service was
linked to a particular social problem. There is little research connected to critical thinking and service
learning, but the small amount that there is indicates some increases in critical thinking ability.

A Successful Man As A Self Made Man
The self made man is often portrayed as a story of rags to riches. A person who overcomes any
obstacle thrown at him/her and defies all odds. These stories incite a reaction in readers, often leaving
them in awe. How can a person become so successful, even though the universe is seemingly against
them? The truth Malcolm Gladwell uncovered in his novel Outliers is the people at the top of the
ladder did not have everything stacked against them. Gladwell says that there is no such concept as a
self made man. Successful people have been helped along the way by a variety of reasons, such as
how wealthy their family was, to their birth month. While I feel that there is no such thing as a self
made man because circumstance and motivation are a key factor in how successful one becomes, I
feel as if a person s luck has a lot to deal with them thriving in their career.
In addition, throughout Outliers it becomes apparent that the circumstances people have been born
into assists them to surpass any competition. For example, technology legends such as Bill Gates, Eric
Schmidt, Vinod Khosla, and Steve Jobs were all born in a one year time span. What a crazy
coincidence that four of the most successful men in technology were all born so close to one another.
The truth is that certain opportunities arose for all of them in college: easy access to computers. If they
had been any older or younger, they would have missed on the opportunities to use the new
technology due to being stuck

Modern Music During The Baroque Era
The term Baroque has been widely acknowledged as a period in Western European Art Music lasting
for 150 years from early 17th to mid 18th century. The word itself is originated from barroco in
Portuguese meaning oddly shaped pearl , which best describes the visual and details of the buildings
existed during that period. Its flamboyant and ornate details of the building is what causes
ornamentations and harpsichords to become an essential element of Baroque music. Bach,
ornamentation, and harpsichord are few of the most recognisable elements of Western Art music
during the Baroque period. Nonetheless, we all came to a second realisation that the Baroque era
lasted for more than 150 years, meaning that it has its own remarkable history and ... Show more

S. Bach, G. F. Handel, and Domenico Scarlatti. Antonio Vivaldi, Claudio Monteverdi, Couperin, Jean
Phillippe Rameau and Jean Baptiste Lully are other popular names in the Baroque era. Each composer
specialises in different instrument compositions and techniques. Out of all the names mentioned, J. S.
Bach remains to this day, one the greatest composers of both the Baroque era and all time. Each of
these composers specialise in different areas or compositions and instruments. Working extensively
with keyboard instruments such as the organ and harpsichord, a few of J. S. Bach s well known
compositions include his Brandenburg Concertos, Goldberg Variations, and St. Matthew s Passion. G.
F. Handel himself composed Italian operas, oratorios, anthems, and organ concertos. His most popular
work of all time is the Hallelujah chorus from the oratorio Messiah, which went on to become the
most popular Baroque work and considered as a choice of piece often performed in Christmas time.
Domenico Scarlatti on the other hand composed in a number of musical forms, but is best known for
composing 555 keyboard sonatas.
As a major instrument of the Baroque era, the harpsichord has parallel strings used for the players to
pluck in order to produce sound. This instrument is highly used and heard in compositions such as J.
S. Bach s toccatas and Domenico Scarlatti s piano sonatas. Unlike the modern piano, the harpsichord

Analysis Of Alley By The Lake Leonid Afremov
Differences Do Not Define Relationships
Between the symbols and different techniques used in this painting Afremov does a great job giving
his viewers the perspective that he sees. He uses many different approaches that the viewer sees
subconsciously. These properties procure specific feelings that Afremov was attempting to produce in
the viewer through his painting. In Alley by The Lake Leonid Afremov depicts the harmony of a
couple s relationship symbolically through well picked objects specifically trees, lights, and people.
Afremov contrasts color schemes and the robustness of the tree to mirror the personalities of the man
in the painting. The most prominent element is the clashing colors of the trees on either side of the
painting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the same fashion as the trees the lights also display a portrayal of the couples personality. The left
side of the alley presents a line of street lights giving off a bright color towards the front of the
painting but farther ahead they seem to blend into the trees making it hard to distinguish between the
trees and the lights. Whereas on the right side it can faintly be seen that there is lights off in the
distance on the other side of the lake. There is also a considerable difference between the two sides.
Height wise the left is very upfront and appearing to be almost never ending. But the right side is far
away and lower on the painting. While the right side has lights placed few and far between. The left
has lights placed close together and in a line. This signifies the orange red colors being surrounded by
something, whether it is people, things, or even activities. The lone tree on the right side which is
associated with the cool tones within the painting. Conveys the idea that the person and other objects
associated with the cool tones in the painting secludes themselves and is very alone. The lights in the
painting lead to tie the entirety of the painting together which is done through the focal point of the
couple.
Coupled with the lights and the trees the two people complete the painting and gives it a center focal
point which draws the viewers eye. The colors in the painted

Cyber Security Attacks And Intrusion Detection System
Threats to critical information and systems have been evolving as the need to store information in the
database increases. As technology increases in a rapid pace, so does the number of computer users.
With this increase of users, the number of targets that presents itself for exploitation surges. Although,
the types of targets and attacks change, classifications of attacks remain the same; exploiting user
errors, hardware resources malfunction, and software weaknesses/glitches. Government and corporate
agency have developed analysis of a variety of cyber attacks and how it affects certain environments
or individuals in a real world situation. The main goal is for these agencies to focus on how network
simulation model have been developed for generating representative cyber attacks and intrusion
detection system. While variety of models is primarily designed to be used in testing cyber situational
awareness and analysis tools, other applications can be utilized such as training analysts or public
presentation could be an effective use of the model. Cyber security threats in the 21st century are in its
early stages, mainly because government or corporate officials do not have the proper understanding
of what is needed to develop a cyber security program or where to initiate the program for their
agency or company. Public views of misconception will give new understanding on how severe cyber
threats can develop within society and how individuals need to be familiarized in

Assessment Task For A Student s Abilities Essay
2. Assessment task review a. Suitability of items Generally, when looking at each items vertically,
most of the columns start with ones which indicates that this skill was easy for the higher ability
students and finish with most of zeros which demonstrates that it was difficult for the lower ability
students. In between, there is a mixture of ones and zeroes breaking down in the column. This
demonstrates that the items in this task are suitable to use to analyse students ability. However, there is
an irregular pattern of 1 s and 0 s for the item 1.2. The less able students could get this skill while the
more able students could not get it. This may be because these students did not have this skill.
Therefore, this item is still suitable to be used to assess the student s abilities. b. Suitability of task to
determine ZPDs of the cohort assessed This task is suitable to determine the ZPD of the students. The
data in the Guttman chart show that only the student 1 could be able to achieve the highest number of
the items. However, this student did not achieve the last three items 2.2, 4.2 and 7.2, which means that
these three items are difficult to this students in particular or to all of the students in this assessment.
This assessment, therefore, can avoid the ceiling effect for the ZPD grouping process. Moreover, the
width of the zone containing a mixture of zeros and ones in the Guttman chart are narrow. The longest
width between two nearby zero and one is 4 boxes,

The Munich Massacre
The 1972 Olympics were supposed to show that Germany had changed as a country. They were
supposed to be The Happy Games but instead are remembered for the massacre of the Israeli athletes.
The Munich Massacre has changed how terrorism is dealt with in different countries and in the
Olympics as a whole. The Massacre occurred on September 5th, the eleventh day of the 1972
Olympics. Eight Palestinian Terrorists that belonged to the group Black september killed two Israeli
athletes and took another nine hostage. The terrorists did this because Israel has Arabs in their prisons.
They wanted Israel to release over 230 Arab prisoners being held in Israeli jails and two German
terrorists (History). The Olympics did not have very good security during this time so this made it
easy for the terrorists to carry out their plan. Israel did not want any negotiations to be made however,
German authorities tried to make many with the terrorists. The terrorists demanded transportation to
Cairo following more than twelve hours of unsuccessful negotiations. Authorities led the terrorists to
believe they would comply while in truth they were planning to ambush them at the airport (NPS).The
ambush did not go as planned. The authorities thought that there were only five terrorists although
there were eight. The rescue failed for a few reasons. First, the German snipers that were chosen had

Analysis of the Film Thelma and Louise Essay

The catalyst moment in the screenplay is when Louise shoots Harlan. The incident, when Harlan is
assaulting Thelma, set the first dramatic moment. This major event is the twist that provokes the
action to escalate to the next act. In outrageous behavior, with suppressed feelings about her past,
Louise relapses. She defends her friend, and at the same time, reacts to the memories of abuse she
suffered, consequently, making justice for both.

Sad endings, like Thelma and Louise s story, is now proving to be exceptional, because their journeys
were exhausting. There were valuable messages broadcasted throughout the acts.
However, the most important message was the importance of friendship, with the development of an
unbreakable bond, love, and trust between two friends. This is a story of two women with a keen
desire to encourage one another and beautifully inspired many others in the process.
Act One: The Weekend Trip
The desire to escape reality to have fun is the dominant intentional plan. The simple gateway plans to
stay at a Louise manager s cabin for the weekend. The major foreshadowing in the first act is when
Thelma puts a gun in her purse for protection. The first plot is when Harlan attacks Thelma, at the
parking lot, and she resists his advances. Harlan aggressively slaps her. She asks him to stop, but
instead he hits her, and proceeds to rape her. Next, Louise shows up and points the gun at him, and
Thelma walks away with Louise. Then, Harlan makes some remarks; Louise turns around and shoots
him.
Act Two: Running Away
They are alarmed by the incident. They are no longer having fun; instead, they are concerned about
being found guilty of a murderer, a crime committed in self defense. They decide to run away and

The Apology Of Socrates
The Apology of Socrates is a Plato s version of speeches given by Socrates who was accused for two
main reasons: the corruption of the youth and impiety (not believing in gods in whom the city
believes). In the Apology Socrates tries to defend himself and his actions but not to apologize for it.
He insisted that he must be wiser than others because he knows and recognizes that knows nothing.
The Apology by Plato shows that there is a great influence of Socrates in searching for the truth about
humanity and society even when his attempt contradicted with the opinions of the many .

Socrates tells them that he will speak the truth, and pleads the judges to think of the justice of his
cause but not minding the style of his speech. In making his defense, Socrates will reply to two kinds
of accusations. At first, he refers to the older charges and his first accusers, and secondly he replies to
the accusations made by Meletus, Anytus, and Lycon. He was afraid of the older accusers most of all
and the reason behind this dread was that his accusers were many and he couldn t call them all by
name. These accusers falsely claims can be summed up in the following words: Socrates is an evil
doer, and a curious person, who searches into things under the earth and in heaven, and he makes the
worse appear the better cause; and he teaches the aforesaid doctrines to others. He responses to these
falsehoods by arguing that he has nothing to do with the physical sciences nor is he paid for giving
instruction he has nothing to teach. He then goes on to explain how he gained such a bad reputation.
The impetuous Chaerephon had gone to Delphi and asked the oracle if there was any man wiser than
Socrates; and the answer was, that there was no man wiser. After a long consideration Socrates thinks
of a method of trying a question. He goes to one who had the reputation of wisdom and selects a

The Cardiovascular System And How It Affects The Body
The cardiovascular system is made up of the heart, blood and blood vessels. Its function is to transport
oxygen to all systems of the body. Oxygen is needed for the body systems to operate. Exercise
increases the need for oxygen and causes the heart to pump faster. This in turn sends more blood
through the vessels. The vessels leading from the heart are the arteries and the veins are the vessels
that lead to the heart. Exercises causes the body to release a hormone called adrenalin. Adrenalin
makes the blood vessels expand in order to allow more blood to flow through. The body also makes
more capillaries. Capillaries transfer oxygen to body tissues. They collect waste and send it back
through the veins to the heart. These new capillaries

What Are The Difference Between Yin And Yang And Taoism
Chinese culture is largely surrounded by the idea of balance. We see this in Yin and Yang, and a
balance between light and dark, or tall and short. While the Americanized version of this concept is
the difference between the two, the original concept looks at how yin and yang balance each other and
work together. This idea of balance is integrated in the idea of the five seasons and the elements that
represent those seasons. The five elements are also related to Taoism in many ways. Yin and Yang is
also part of the Chinese world creation myth. They believed that there was Wu Chi and then there was
Tai Chi, or nothing and then something. That something was Yin and Yang, or in balance. For example
When people find one thing beautiful another consequently becomes ugly. (Tzu, Pg.2) While this is
explaining Taoism, it also incompases the idea of Yin and Yang and how they complement each other
creating balance. From this something the World was born and Taoism came into being. Taoism is the
idea of man when he was connected to the earth and all it s creatures. This was known as The age of
perfect Virtue. ((Hoff, Pg.20). This idea was was originally introduced by Chuang Tse who was a
Chinese philosopher in around the 4th century B.C.E. He said In the Age of Perfect Virtue, men lived
among the animals and birds as members of one large family. There were no distinctions between
superior and Inferior to separate one man or species from another. All retained their natural virtue and
lived in the state of pure simplicity... We were once able to communicate with the creatures of the
earth, but then man became greedy and was cast out by the creatures losing its connections with the
beings. We became independent and killed animals for food. Some still remember our connection to
nature and teach it to those around them. From this came practices such as maintaining that balance
through the five seasons. The five seasons are spring, summer, late summer, autumn, and winter
correspond with the five elements and each has its own things that are unique to it. The idea of the five
elements originally came from the idea of yin and yang. The idea of how natural elements interact to
create a balance. Ancient Chinese medical

  • 3. Key Components and Players Involved in Effective City... Discuss Key Components and Players involved in effective city planning and innovative planning practices. Include in your discussion issues that arrive concerning eminent domain. Discuss how the no growth movement influences city growth. Introduction Throughout history, one of the major themes has been the migration of people from the country into the city. This is because many urban centers have greater amounts of opportunity and there are more services available. During this process, is when a number of regions started to experience increasing levels of population growth. To accommodate new residents different parcels of land surrounding the city are utilized. Over the short term, this addressed the immediate growth needs of the region. However, after longer periods of time, is when the lack of planning led to disorganized pockets of growth. This depleted natural resources and exposed many of these areas to potential natural disasters (such as: flooding, landslides or major storms). (United Nations Human Settlement Programs, 2009, pp. 45 68) To prevent these kinds of issues, most cities need to focus on effective planning and innovative practices. This will create more stable economic growth and ensure that every part of the city receives the same kind of services. To achieve these objectives requires examining the various components and players involved in the process. Together, these elements will offer the greatest insights as to how cities should strategize and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Types Of The Human Host All bacteria require certain amounts of transition metals to sustain life. These metals are necessary to carry out important metabolic processes in the cell. Among other things, transition metals can act as cofactors and they can be incorporated into metalloenzymes, transcription factors and storage proteins (10). A. baumannii requires efficient mechanisms to acquire these transition metals, especially when confined in a human host. The human host carries an abundant amount of metals that can be harnessed by invading pathogens. To hinder a bacterium s exploitation of these metals, the human host employs a variety of techniques collectively termed nutritional immunity (10). For instance, calprotectin (CP) in the host chelates intracellular stores of manganese (Mn) and zinc (Zn) to inhibit bacterial growth [5]. All pathogens require essential metals such as iron to sustain life. Iron is a significant component in oxidative phosphorylation, contributing to ATP production (21). The human host also sequesters iron via various mechanisms in an attempt to further inhibit bacterial growth. These iron limitation strategies include storing iron intracellularly by complexing it to ferritin, serum transferrin and lactoferrin in mucosal surfaces (10). In the blood, iron is also complexed to heme (10). Even when a red blood cell is lysed, hemoglobin is quickly bound by haptoglabin and free heme is bound by hemeopexin (Hpx), further limiting A. baumannii s access to iron (10). ... It may even be a painless limp. There could be pain in the anterior part of the thigh or knee. There have been cases where the child has had pain concentrated only in the hip area and nowhere else in the leg. An article from the National Osteonecrosis Foundation says, ...often you will first notice limping during your child s active play . The child usually will not be able to pinpoint the exact moment when they got injured, or exactly where the pain is if it towards the knee area. The patient also could experience a limited range of motion or stiffness in the affected area. Symptoms described to the doctors would also be pain can be experienced with internal rotation and abduction of the joint, and also in the gluteus medius. • 7. A Career In My Life Just how I came to Irvine, California, can only be traced to Divine Providence. Originally, I was a drama major at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois. I had been bitten by the acting bug after a successful year of speech and drama at McKinley High School in Canton, Ohio. Although my interests were diverse, I figured that a career in the entertainment field would be a launching pad into the arena I desired most: world wide in¬fluence. My stay at Wesleyan was riddled with disappointment. My letter to twenty four Univer¬sity regents caused quite a stir, but was eventually dismissed and I left in a huff. Getting into the University of California in Irvine took some doing. I fled Wesleyan with a D grade point average. I withdrew from one class and received an F in two other classes, but received an A in my speech class. I gave my speech final on Why I was leaving Wesleyan. Even though I went fifteen minutes over the speech limit, (and we were warned to never do that in her class,) the teacher gave me the top grade for my inexorable passion. When my application to UCI was rejected that summer on the basis of poor grades, I used my usual rhetoric to get my foot in the door. Then came the million dollar question: Where are you going to get the money to pay for tuition? asked the Dean of Admissions. Armed with a barrage of words, I looked him in the eyes and questioned how an educational in stitution could deny any red blooded American student an opportunity for higher learning on a technicality like lack of money. I ended with: Do you want to see a 4.0? The Dean of Admissions said that the committee would recon¬sider my application, and after I hung up I said, Mom, pack my bags, I m on my way to California. No one is exempt from experiencing one form of hardship or another at any point in life. What then is the ideal purpose of these afflictions ? Aligning with Christian belief, I assume that God, beyond being both powerful and knowledgeable, is also compassionate. As one who is as St. Augustine calls him Goodness itself , how does God transform sufferings, commonly perceived to be evil, to become something good? Faith tells us to trust in this better judgment that has conquered the test of time, as he has sustained us from creation until today. God spoke about his creations and how he manages to sustain them every day. This shows that God is a god of life by the way he tends to the natural world. There are many things in this world that people have different views on, but this topic, I feel, is a very controversial one that causes a lot of dispute. I feel that if you are a victim of rape then you should have the right to have abortion be one of your options. This should be acceptable because most likely, the molested will have PTSD and having a product of that situation around will only make it worse. I think I speak for everyone when I say that you wouldn t want to have a child that would remind you of that horrible time in your life every time that you look at them. The belief is that increased tenure strengthens the propensity for employees to remain. The second hypothesis is that higher performing employees are less likely to resign than average to lower performing employees. • 19. Kant s Philosophy On Moral Philosophy Immanuel Kant presented his most notable positions on moral philosophy in his book The Groundwork of Metaphysics of Morals. Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel subsequently presented a number of objections to Kant s positions, mainly in his book The Phenomenology of Spirit. Hegel presents objections to Kant in two different ways, implicitly and explicitly. Hegel gives arguments against Kant s moral theory as well as the general philosophical thought that produces the moral theory that Kant presents. But in order to understand Hegel s critique of Kant, we must first understand the content of Kant s moral philosophy and its formulation. Kant s Moral Philosophy The crux of Kant s moral philosophy comes from the idea that morality is derived from rationality rational thought leads us to an objective morality. Kant is looking to pure reason as a guide to find universally binding moral laws. If this is true, and reason can determine whether a maxim can become a universal law of moral behavior without appeal to experience, then this would have profound implications for moral philosophy. Kant will argue for this through the categorical imperative. In the Groundwork, Kant will propose the existence of the categorical imperative of morality. A categorical imperative is a moral principle that must be followed unconditionally. This is the criterion to which maxims should conform. Maxim, as defined by Kant, is the subjective principle of willing. [4:401] Additionally, the categorical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The left side of the alley presents a line of street lights giving off a bright color towards the front of the painting but farther ahead they seem to blend into the trees making it hard to distinguish between the trees and the lights. Whereas on the right side it can faintly be seen that there is lights off in the distance on the other side of the lake. There is also a considerable difference between the two sides. Height wise the left is very upfront and appearing to be almost never ending. But the right side is far away and lower on the painting. While the right side has lights placed few and far between. The left has lights placed close together and in a line. This signifies the orange red colors being surrounded by something, whether it is people, things, or even activities. The lone tree on the right side which is associated with the cool tones within the painting. Conveys the idea that the person and other objects associated with the cool tones in the painting secludes themselves and is very alone. The lights in the painting lead to tie the entirety of the painting together which is done through the focal point of the couple. Coupled with the lights and the trees the two people complete the painting and gives it a center focal point which draws the viewers eye. The colors in the painted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Assessment Task For A Student s Abilities Essay 2. Assessment task review a. Suitability of items Generally, when looking at each items vertically, most of the columns start with ones which indicates that this skill was easy for the higher ability students and finish with most of zeros which demonstrates that it was difficult for the lower ability students. In between, there is a mixture of ones and zeroes breaking down in the column. This demonstrates that the items in this task are suitable to use to analyse students ability. However, there is an irregular pattern of 1 s and 0 s for the item 1.2. The less able students could get this skill while the more able students could not get it. This may be because these students did not have this skill. Therefore, this item is still suitable to be used to assess the student s abilities. b. Suitability of task to determine ZPDs of the cohort assessed This task is suitable to determine the ZPD of the students. The data in the Guttman chart show that only the student 1 could be able to achieve the highest number of the items. However, this student did not achieve the last three items 2.2, 4.2 and 7.2, which means that these three items are difficult to this students in particular or to all of the students in this assessment. This assessment, therefore, can avoid the ceiling effect for the ZPD grouping process. Moreover, the width of the zone containing a mixture of zeros and ones in the Guttman chart are narrow. In the Apology Socrates tries to defend himself and his actions but not to apologize for it. He insisted that he must be wiser than others because he knows and recognizes that knows nothing. The Apology by Plato shows that there is a great influence of Socrates in searching for the truth about humanity and society even when his attempt contradicted with the opinions of the many . Socrates tells them that he will speak the truth, and pleads the judges to think of the justice of his cause but not minding the style of his speech. In making his defense, Socrates will reply to two kinds of accusations. At first, he refers to the older charges and his first accusers, and secondly he replies to the accusations made by Meletus, Anytus, and Lycon. He was afraid of the older accusers most of all and the reason behind this dread was that his accusers were many and he couldn t call them all by name. These accusers falsely claims can be summed up in the following words: Socrates is an evil doer, and a curious person, who searches into things under the earth and in heaven, and he makes the worse appear the better cause; and he teaches the aforesaid doctrines to others. He responses to these falsehoods by arguing that he has nothing to do with the physical sciences nor is he paid for giving instruction he has nothing to teach. He then goes on to explain how he gained such a bad reputation. The impetuous Chaerephon had gone to Delphi and asked the oracle if there was any man wiser than Socrates; and the answer was, that there was no man wiser. After a long consideration Socrates thinks of a method of trying a question. He goes to one who had the reputation of wisdom and selects a politician for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Cardiovascular System And How It Affects The Body The cardiovascular system is made up of the heart, blood and blood vessels. Its function is to transport oxygen to all systems of the body. Oxygen is needed for the body systems to operate. Exercise increases the need for oxygen and causes the heart to pump faster. This in turn sends more blood through the vessels. The vessels leading from the heart are the arteries and the veins are the vessels that lead to the heart. Exercises causes the body to release a hormone called adrenalin. Adrenalin makes the blood vessels expand in order to allow more blood to flow through. The body also makes more capillaries. Capillaries transfer oxygen to body tissues. They collect waste and send it back through the veins to the heart. These new capillaries ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. What Are The Difference Between Yin And Yang And Taoism Chinese culture is largely surrounded by the idea of balance. We see this in Yin and Yang, and a balance between light and dark, or tall and short. While the Americanized version of this concept is the difference between the two, the original concept looks at how yin and yang balance each other and work together. This idea of balance is integrated in the idea of the five seasons and the elements that represent those seasons. The five elements are also related to Taoism in many ways. Yin and Yang is also part of the Chinese world creation myth. They believed that there was Wu Chi and then there was Tai Chi, or nothing and then something. That something was Yin and Yang, or in balance. For example When people find one thing beautiful another consequently becomes ugly. (Tzu, Pg.2) While this is explaining Taoism, it also incompases the idea of Yin and Yang and how they complement each other creating balance. From this something the World was born and Taoism came into being. Taoism is the idea of man when he was connected to the earth and all it s creatures. This was known as The age of perfect Virtue. ((Hoff, Pg.20). This idea was was originally introduced by Chuang Tse who was a Chinese philosopher in around the 4th century B.C.E. He said In the Age of Perfect Virtue, men lived among the animals and birds as members of one large family. There were no distinctions between superior and Inferior to separate one man or species from another. All retained their natural virtue and lived in the state of pure simplicity... We were once able to communicate with the creatures of the earth, but then man became greedy and was cast out by the creatures losing its connections with the beings. We became independent and killed animals for food. Some still remember our connection to nature and teach it to those around them. From this came practices such as maintaining that balance through the five seasons. The five seasons are spring, summer, late summer, autumn, and winter correspond with the five elements and each has its own things that are unique to it. The idea of the five elements originally came from the idea of yin and yang. The idea of how natural elements interact to create a balance. Ancient Chinese medical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
