Positive And Negative Effects Of Thermoregulation
Thermoregulation is the control of the body s temperature. Normal body core temperature is typically
around 37 °C, staying within a functional range of 35 to 41 °C. (Périard et al., 2015) Temperature
during exercise can have both positive and negative effects and therefore it is important to manage it
through training and heat acclimatisation. It has been found that power output and speed of cyclists
decreased during hot conditions. (Racinais, S et al., 2015) However, due to heat acclimatisation the
decrements were progressively increased, therefore suggesting that heat acclimatisation can be used
successfully. (Périard et al., 2015). Similarly, it can be found that exercise increases body temperature
and the resulting heat stored becomes a factor inhibiting exercise performance. Loss of heat by
evaporation can eventually hinder performance. Therefore, it is again found that acclimatization
improves performance by affecting heat loss mechanisms. (Reilly et al, 2006). A study was carried out
by Webborn et al., (2005) to test weather precooling/cooling in intermittent sprint exercises in a hot
environment would reduce a rise in core temperature. 8 male participants took part in 4 heat stress
trials with the independent variables being no cooling control, 20 min of precooling and cooling
during exercise. Each participant took a pill measuring core body temperature and the results found
that during 80 minutes of passive rest in heated conditions, body temperature rose from

Evaluating The Options On A Scale Of Utility
Introduction Myriad decisions affront us every day. Each decision is decomposable into sub decisions.
For instance, consider the mental turmoil (or apathy) required to determine whether you shall go
grocery shopping. First, you determine an initial need for grocery shopping (i.e., you are out of milk,
eggs, etc.). Next, you consider what you would rather do an evaluation of utility. This cost benefit
analysis continues until shopping or staying is perceived with marginally greater utility. Though these
calculations require a second or so in your mind, in decomposing this choice, one finds a series of
individual decisions contributing to the final. These sub decisions may How much is milk worth my
going to the store? or How much does this television show dissuade me from going to the store?
However, one can go deeper still. In answering each of the above sub questions, you subconsciously
evaluate the options on a scale of utility. Consider this concept though: for any arbitrarily selected
value on that scale, you must subconsciously decide if the value is satisfactory a boolean decision (see
Fig. 1). Additionally, all but the lowest layer of sub decisions are considerable as independent
decisions in different contexts. Accordingly, these decisions are likewise decomposable to final
boolean decisions, assuming all high level decisions are decomposable. Also note these boolean
decisions are never consciously considered in first order as that requires additional levels

Eye In The Sky
Mississippi Burning ⇽Introduction⇾
The main connection I am going to look into in further detail is Innocence.
The meaning of Innocence from my opinion is To not be found guilty of a cause or problem eg:
Invulnerable.
I will be using four pieces of texts to help me back this up.
The first text is Hurricane directed by Norman Jewison, Hurricane is about a man named Rubin Carter
who s dream is winning the middle weight boxing title but all came to a crash when some unsuspected
murders happend.
The second text is Eye In The Sky directed by Gavin Hood, Eye in The Sky is about the British army
preparing to take out a group of Suicidal Bombers in Nairobi Kenya.
The final text is Mississippi Burning directed by Alan Parker, Mississippi Burning is about a mystery
killing of 3 civil right workers supporting the African American Race.
Body Paragraph 1~
Culpability
The first connection I will be explaining is Culpability.
From my opinion Culpability means to be blamed for something they didn t do despite them pleading
innocent from a Law s point of view.
The movie that relates strongly to this is Hurricane, Rubin Hurricane Carter was a Boxing champion
but all went downhill when he was accused of murdering three people at a bar in New Jersey.
An example of how culpability was used was when in the

Space Shuttle Challenger Explosion Summary
The case study I chose to analyze was the Space Shuttle Challenger Explosion, by Ronald C. Kramer.
Kramer, discussed the four main components that led to the catastrophic explosion. These components
included the societal context, the final flaw, the persons behind the final decision to launch, and lastly
the failure of social control mechanisms. Unlike popular belief, there was more than just one factor
that led to the deadly failure of the launch. Kramer discusses these different concepts that point to state
corporate crime as a private business and government agency interacted leading to the explosion.
Between the 1960 s and 1970 s there was a drastic change in response to the economic conditions.
This caused budget problems while political and public support began to decline (Kramer, 2010).
During the 1960 s, NASA reached the moon and received a generous budget with large political
support. Due to all this support in the 1960 s, NASA was viewed to be in their glory days. During
these so called glory days, NASA could recruit top scientists with a can do attitude who were all
willing to work together with a serious commitment to safety and quality control (Kramer, 2010). This
societal context is where the problem begins to emerge. There was a large downfall of the space
program in the 1970 s due economic strain. Nonetheless, NASA was granted ... Show more content on

Like other government agencies, NASA was not subjected to any strong oversight by any external
control agency, but rather self regulated. As the stress to launch the space shuttle continued to build,
there was erosion of norms supporting the use of legitimate means to accomplish organizational goals
(Kramer, 2010:41). Kramer makes an important point here when discussing how these factors point to
state corporate crime by these corporations doing whatever is necessary to complete the goal, while
not thinking about the risk of human

Statements For Frankenstein
Every day in English I we are required to write I Can Statements. I Can Statements are basically
statements that we write that tell us what we learned that we can do that day. My I Can Statements this
week were that I can effectively analyze the text to understand and build my vocabulary (April 11,
2016), I can agree and disagree with my peers on what they interrupted from Frankenstein Chapter 3
in the Final Word Protocol (April 12, 2016), I can complete the Frankenstein Character Form by
analyzing the text of what I have read so far (April 13, 2016), I can discuss what I thought was
interesting and significant in the Frankenstein text with my peers (April 14, 2016), and I can speak
frankly about a Scientific Dilemma in a Socratic Seminar (April 15, 2016).

I found that very interesting because I never looked at it in that way. I didn t think it was a good nor
bad thing because creating a new life is technology which, could be good in some ways but, if you
didn t read the text you wouldn t have known that Frankenstein was going to be bad. So, you wouldn t
have thought that creating a new life would cause so much trouble. I discovered that this could be both
a good and bad thing and unfortunately in Victor s state it was very bad. Juan disagreed with Brayden
and thought creating new life wasn t a problem if the new life was created right and was used for good
purposes. I believe that the best point was made my Ashley which was that, Victor was stalling to see
his family. I agreed with the point made by Leslie that Elizabeth was jealous of the new house keep

Trip To Disney World Essay
I remember planning for this day for about two years. When I would finally get the chance to be with
my best friends and take a road trip to California to go to Disney Land, and now that the time to take
that trip has come and gone I would like to talk about my most important journey. Once I woke up I
called Alavee to make sure he was awake. I m glad he was because he saved me some time by calling
Priya and Rigo to make sure they were getting ready to go. About an hour and a half later we all met
up in the school parking lot at about the same time. The exception was Priya who had to take extra
time to bring the camper which we hardly used in the end, but it was still better than trying to cram
into one car to sleep. Anthony brought his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

happy to have us. We really didn t do much there. Priya mostly stayed in the camper because of course
he had to bring his laptop with her. The rest of us went into my aunt s downstairs room and played
playstation 3 and went on her computer. The next day we wanted to head out early so we could make
it to Colorado and have time to see some sites and visit my aunt and uncle. After we said thanks for
letting us stay with my Aunt Alks and Uncle Pinakin s house, we were on our way. I wasn t really
looking forward to the drive ahead because I remember how long it was the first time I had to make
the trip, and it gets uncomfortable. The only thing I like when we go to Colorado is that we lose an
hour. This was probably the most boring trip on our journey because most of the land we traveled was
in Nebraska and it was flat and plain. There was nothing really significant about this trip until we got
to Colorado. Flat land changed into mountains and country turned into city. That part of it was really
interesting because it was like we could see the invisible line separating Colorado and Nebraska. It
took us a little while to find my aunt in Golden, Colorado because the directions were a little hard to
follow. I guess no one wanted to see anything because almost as soon as we were

The During World War II
During World War II, Singapore was conquered and occupied by the Japanese Empire from 1942 to
1945. British Military Administration was formed to govern the island until March 1946. Much of the
infrastructure had been destroyed during the war, including electricity and water supply systems,
telephone services, as well as the harbor facilities at the Port of Singapore. There was also a shortage
of food leading to malnutrition, disease, and rampant crime and violence. High food prices,
unemployment, and workers discontent culminated into a series of strikes in 1947 causing massive
stoppages in public transport and other services. By late 1947, the economy began to recover,
facilitated by a growing demand for tin and rubber around the ... Show more content on

(Abshire, 2011) When the war ended, Singapore reverted to British control, with increasing levels of
self government being granted, culminating in Singapore s merger with the Federation of Malaya to
form Malaysia in 1963. However, social unrest and disputes between Singapore s ruling People s
Action Party and Malaysia s Alliance Party resulted in Singapore s separation from Malaysia.
Singapore became an independent republic on 9 August 1965. Facing severe unemployment and a
housing crisis, Singapore embarked on a modernization program beginning in the late 1960s through
the 1970s that focused on establishing a manufacturing industry, developing large public housing
estates and investing heavily on public education. Since independence, Singapore s economy has
grown by an average of nine percent each year. By the 1990s, the country had become one of the
world s most prosperous nations, with a highly developed free market economy, strong international
trading links, and the highest per capita gross domestic product in Asia outside of Japan. The first
legislative council was in place from 1948 1951 with the first Singaporean election held in March
1948. Only 6 of the 25 seats on the legislative council were to be elected, the other members of the
council were chosen either by the Governor or by the Chambers of Commerce. Three months after the
elections, an armed insurgency by

Police Brutality And The Riot
During 1992 in South Central Los Angeles, a riot started after the news of four white Los Angeles
police officers beating Rodney King was published on TV. It became daily news. The riot caused
many crimes to occur; participants of the riot burned down business stores, destroyed properties, and
some activities involved guns that have led to many deaths. Many South Central residents were
unsatisfied with police brutality and the way their community were being treated. Although the riot
only lasted for about a week, about 52 people were killed (Kivisto and Rundblad 82). The whole
neighborhood were ruined and destroyed. Ever since that riot, there were over 1 million property loss
(Kivisto and Rundblad 82), and over 700 businesses were burned down (Bergesen and Herman para.
1). Many people lost their jobs because their workplace were destroyed.
There were many different reasons that may have caused the 1992 riot in Los Angeles to occur.
However, not all of them were the main reasons of the riot. There were many side causes, for instance,
after the video of Rodney King being beaten was shown on television, residents of South Central Los
Angeles started to act up. They were affected by how King was being mistreated and how police
brutality played a big role in the video and their society. King s incident was very similar to many
other cases. For example, Anna Deavere Smith mentioned a case about Michael Zinzun from her book

The Healthcare Plan Of Clinton

the United States the issue of government funded healthcare programs has always been one of
importance drawing attentions of many and involving myriads of debate sessions. Still now people
take quite interest in dissecting and finally commenting on why Obamacare is a success and why
Clintoncare/Hillarycare was not. But whatever may be the reason behind such indulgence, it must be

Congress, as one of the key players, was seriously considering plans to provide universal health
coverage on one hand, and physicians, big businesses, and Republican lawmakers, on the other hand,
as various interest groups opposing the Congress, were more interested in blocking the proposals of
the Congress (Bok, 1998). The situation was a dilemmatic one and some reformation was needed.
Clinton felt the nerve of the majority of the populace who were in favor of healthcare reform and
hence, he made healthcare a primary weapon in his election campaigns. With his win the issue of
healthcare reform came to forefront. It must be noted that gradually American businesses were singing
in the tune of Clinton due to the fear of losing further businesses due to their disadvantageous position
fueled by the rising health costs in the United States and Growing segments of the medical community
expresses a desire to consider reforms; even hospitals seemed interested in some scheme that would
spare them the heavy burden of giving free medical care to the uninsured (Bok, 1998). Moreover,
Clinton was obliged to introduce a healthcare reform policy also due to the fact that large majorities of
the public rated health care reform among the most urgent problems facing the nation and voiced
support for a plan that would provide medical insurance for all Americans (Bok, 1998). After getting

Spatial Cognition Mini-Review
Mini Review: Spatial Cognition Spatial Cognition is concerned with the achievement, organization,
application, and modification of knowledge about spatial surroundings (Bandura., 1963). These
capabilities enable animals and humans to manage basic and high level cognitive tasks in everyday
life (Bandura.,1971). Spatial cognition studies have assisted to tie cognitive psychology and
neuroscience together. Most researchers are concerned about how animals acquire and find
information. Since acquiring and acting on spatial information appears to have computational
requirements from learning to predict temporal sequences of events, we might expect to find
adaptively specialized, domain specific mechanisms of spatial learning and/or ... Show more content

The global picture developing from this support is that spatial cognition can be split into two genres
which are to some magnitude divided in mammalian brain (Hartley Burgess., 2001). There are various
mechanisms for spatial cognition, which pose the ultimate question: Do animals have cognitive maps?
(Shettleworth., 2010) These include dead reckoning, beacons, landmarks, routes, and geometry
(Shettleworth., 2010). Dead reckoning is an internal sense of the direction and distance of the target
from the current position. It is one of the most basic and ubiquitous ways in which animals keep track
of their location with respect to a known position. It has been mostly studied in bees, spiders, and ants.
Dead reckoning is a mechanism for egocentric spatial localization, that is, the animal is localizing
things in the environment with respect to itself. Beacons are local or proximal cues, whereas
landmarks are global or distal cues (Shettleworth., 2010). A guide animals can use when features of a
goal are not immediately perceptible from a distance in fixed locations are called landmarks
(Shettleworth., 2010). They are used based on three factors: template matching and local views, vector
sum model, and multiple bearing models. Route learning is often referred to as reaching a goal using a
series of landmarks, which is a series of stimulus response (S R) associations (Shettleworth., 2010).

Teaching Sight Words Essay
Sight words: words that are automatically and effortlessly recognized without any conscious
application of decoding or word analysis strategies. o When teaching sight words to children you
should consider:
 Words should appear frequently in print
 Words should be in a reader s oral vocabulary
 Words cannot be pronounces using phonic generalizations
High frequency words: approximately 200 words account for about 50% of the words in nearly any
reading selection, and 400 words make up about 70% of most writing.
 After repeated experiences with such words in meaningful context, these words become sight
words.
 A, about, after, again, be, because, call ,can, did, do, does don t, every, for, go, had, has, have, he, I,
in, is, it, if, of, on, said, some, so, that, the, then, their, them, there, these, to, ... Show more content on

These procedures help children see common words repeatedly and provide additional environmental
print.
Another common strategy is modeled writing, where teachers can draw attention to sight words during
a writing activity that models writing behavior. In this way, teachers can emerge several instructional
goals within the modeled writing activity.
Morpheme: the smallest unit of meaning in a word. o Free morpheme: can stand alone. EX: cat
contains a single morpheme and can stand alone. o Bound morpheme: cannot stand alone. EX: s in
cats means there is more than one cat, but s cannot stand alone without cat cannot stand alone
Morphemic analysis: involves looking at word parts, such as prefixes, suffixes, and root words, to help
determine a word s meaning. o Often used with English Learners or struggling readers to help them
build vocabulary, and the strategies presented in this book help all learners pronounce the word parts
associated with morphemic

How Governments Spend Tax Dollars
SPECIAL TAXING DISTRICTS
Citizens expect government to provide high quality, low cost services through efficient use of public
tax dollars. However, local governments with tight budgets and a multitude of needs vying for public
funds often struggle to improve or even maintain services within their boundaries. Budget shortfalls
may result in non essential programs like parks, libraries and community colleges becoming severely
underfunded or defunct, despite strong objections by citizens. County and city governments
throughout the United States have increasingly responded to these difficulties by implementing special
taxing districts (Turk, 2004). Special taxing districts are separate government entities, which typically
administer a single service within a defined geographical boundary. Some districts provide a new
service, while others acquire responsibilities once held by general purpose governments. The services
they provide are broad, ranging from essential functions like fire protection, highways, and hospitals,
to more obscure tasks of mosquito abatement and upkeep of cemeteries (U.S. Census Bureau, 2012).
Since 1952, special taxing districts in the United States have increased over 200%, with 38,266 special
districts comprising 40% of local government in 2012. During the same time, municipalities have
increased slightly, while the number of townships and school districts both decline (U.S. Census
Bureau, 2012). The structural changes in local government have been

Fire Service History
The origin, and the history of the fire service is what led it to be a such an essential service in our lives
today. The first fire department was created in Rome; it was a group made up of slaves chosen by
Aedile Marcus. Marcus Licinius Crassus was born around the year 115 BC and came from a rich
family. Marcus had formed his own firemen army , they were 500 men who rushed into burning
buildings. When the firemen came to extinguish the fire, Crassus and his men couldn t settle on a
price. Finally, when they came to an agreement, the building already burned halfway. This encouraged
the installation of a proper fire service system, what we now know today as the Fire Department.

The training was mainly focused on how they be able to save lives. For example, technical rescue,

The Myers Briggs Profile Is Bases
The Neo Freudian theorist on which on which the Myers Briggs profile is bases is Carl Gustav Jung.
Born in 1875 he was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychotherapist who founded analytical psychology, of
which Jung decided the central concept to be individualism. He thought that there were four basic
principal functions by which we see the world, sensation, intuition, feeling, and thinking. He claimed
that we use one of those senses is what we use most of the time. Each of the eight letters stand for
different things in the Myers Briggs profile. The letter E represents Extraversion. Which are basically
extraverts, people that are go getters in life, life working in large groups, have lots of friends, and are
easily excited by being around other people. The letter I stands for Introversion. Which are introverts,
people who are calm, reserved, take the time to reflect on ideas that explain the outside world. The
letter N represents Intuition. Intuitive type may be concerned with what is new and doing new and
different things. They see the big picture of things and are constantly brain storming ideas. They
would also rather gain understanding through insight than through hands on experiences. The Letter S
stand for sensing. People that are sensing are really concerned with what they can actually see in front
of them and approach situations with their eyes open to the facts. The letter F represents Feeling, they
are people that wear their hearts on their sleeves. They

Importance Of Education Of An Entrepreneur
Entrepreneur is a person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than
normal financial risks in order to do so. This career is stressful at time but this could be fun to be able
to have the ability to bring ideas to reality and change today s generation. Being an entrepreneur doesn
t mean creating clothing but also having your own service business. For an example, lawn mowing
service or a tree cutting service. You can also make your own invention. Something so small can
become something so big, the best inventor didn t become entrepreneurs overnight some of the even
made their inventions by accident and now their invention are still around and have changed
generation today. Becoming an entrepreneur you need to know the education, duties, and
responsibilities of an entrepreneur. Education of an Entrepreneur
Education for entrepreneurs is non specific you technically don t need an education to be an
entrepreneur. If you are running a client business you need to go to college to be a nurse or a doctor.
However, a strong business background can be helpful in securing financial support. Successful
entrepreneurs are well trained in their fields, qualifications can vary. For Example, Restaurateurs may
be new graduates of culinary schools and hospitality programs or skilled chefs. Being an entrepreneur
may sound like a walk in the park but what people don t understand is that it takes a lot of hard work.

The Subculture Of Craft Beer
1. What is the subculture s core purpose? What motivates, unifies and drives the members?
It s Friday night in the cosmopolitan city of Cape Town and all the cool, hip young professionals are
out to celebrate the start of the weekend. After doing a tour of the most popular and crowded bars, I
found that all of these partygoers are drinking the same drink: Craft Beer.
As a student of ethnography I was interested in this social phenomenon of craft beer in Cape Town,
and even more so about this subculture of drinkers that would pay more for a craft beer, then a
standard, regular, cheaper beer.
Craft beer in this context refers to beer that has been brewed locally and has not been distributed by

Criminologist Personal Statement
What do you want be when you grow up ? A common question many are asked from an early age. The
answers are usually the same given by children; doctor, astronaut, and police officer. Then through
adolescent and teenage years these answers become more specific such as; marine biologists, brain
surgeon, and engineer. By the first year of college, most young adults are positive in their future career
choices. It was around this time that I answered the age old question for myself. I had set my heart on
becoming a Criminologist.
As a freshman in college I was fascinated and determined to learn what causes humans to make
certain decisions. The type of decisions that motivate an individual to commit a crime, that led me to
declare psychology as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Earning a bachelor s degree in Psychology is by far my most important accomplishment. To go on and
receive a Master s degree in Criminal Justice would be an even bigger triumph. I know one look at my
official transcripts from Clemson University would make one believe that I did not take it seriously.
First let me explain, during my undergraduate years I spent a lot of years working a part time job to
financially take care of myself. My family did their best helping me with bills and money when they
could, but I was pretty much on my own. When I was attending Midlands Tech right after high school
I was working six days a week at a restaurant. In the mornings and afternoons I would attend class,
after that I would go straight to work. Once leaving work for the night I would usually spend the next
three to four hours doing homework and studying, and then I would wake up and do it all over again.
For the next year and half, I worked hard to be able to transfer to my dream university. As a person
who suffered from anxiety and depression at the time, attending college was a thought I didn t believe
would become a reality. Overcoming such a crippling mental disorder was a marvelous achievement.
Even during my time at Clemson my record doesn t speak very well, but I did not let the mental illness
stop me from attaining my degree. Eventually, I sought help for dealing with anxiety and depression.
This allowed me to focus somewhat better on school; regrettably I still was working full time. Not
being financially stable legitimately set me back on my grades. Which I regret the most is focusing on
paying for Clemson, and not spending more time concentrating on my school work. As previously
mentioned I do not want to make it seem like I was not passionate about my studies. Currently it s a
hindrance for my acceptance into Columbia College, but I do not regret all the lessons I learned, in the

Shopping Center At Rayzor Ranch Marketplace
I. Selected Shopping Center Rayzor Ranch Marketplace has a diverse selection of 42 retailers
covering an 800,000 square foot lot. The marketplace was established in Fall of 2010. It is located off
of Highway 380 and University Dr. in Denton, Texas. Having only been around for 5 years the
shopping center appears very contemporary compared to older shopping centers nearby. The parking
lots are clean and trash free and the paint stripes are easily visible. The landscape is very well kept and
there are potted flowers in the gathering areas. Overall the shopping center provides a refreshing look
to the community. II. Location The Rayzor Ranch Marketplace is conveniently located on University
Dr. one of Denton s busiest streets. Located across the street is another shopping center and a total of 3
gas stations surrounding the location. There are 3 main entrances to the shopping center. Consumers
can also access the center through a gas station parking lot located right next to the shopping center.
Although the traffic is usually free flowing, during rush hours the entryways can become congested.
The Shopping Center is constantly booming and has increased the traffic flow in the area. The success
of the shopping center would lead me to conclusion that center is a destination. III. Retailer
Composition Rayzor Ranch Marketplace is anchored by a Wal Mart supercenter. A supercenter is
defined as a Large store (150,000 to 220,000 square feet) combining a discount store with a

God In John Steinbeck s The Book Of Job
When thinking about God, two things come to mind; God is perfect and he controls everything.
However, chapter forty two in the book of Job is able to show me a side of the Lord that I have never
seen before. This story got me thinking about why God does certain things. Sometimes things happen,
and people just don t understand why. It also left me with the impression that God has the power to
bring evil upon people. God s intentions may not be to harm anyone, but to test their faith and will
power. The last thing that I learned from this chapter is that God can reveal people for who they really
are. Throughout the book, God has taken away everything from his humble servant Job. His family
and animals are gone and there is no apparent reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The thing that catches my attention is what God says before that. God says, My wrath is kindled
against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my
servant Job hath (Ch.42, Pg.82) This quote shows that God is disappointed with these men and they
didn t perform like Job did. The Lord had expectations of these men, and they failed him. Therefore,
he makes them supply offerings to Job. I feel that God is proving a point to people that faith and
courage can lead to good things. Throughout the time, Job has been put through many hard obstacles.
God took everything away from him instantly including his family. To me, losing my family would
have to be the most devastating thing that could happen. I once had an incident regarding family and it
broke me down. During that time in my life, I almost lost faith in God. I was so confused and upset at
why certain things were happening and I had no answer. It seemed like God wasn t looking out for me
and it seemed like I couldn t trust him. However, I remained faithful to the Lord because I knew that
he could make things

Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Essay
Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, one of the most common liver disorders, can have several causes,
such as congenital, pharmaceutical, or other miscellaneous sources, but the most clinically important
etiology is metabolic disorder. Metabolic Disorder, also known as syndrome X, is a collection of
symptoms that occur in clusters, and cause a patient to have a higher risk of heart disease, stroke, and
diabetes. Metabolic syndrome has several hallmark signs. Many of these conditions can occur alone,
or secondary to another condition and do not individually point to metabolic syndrome. These
characteristic signs are a large waist circumference, high triglyceride levels, reduced HDL cholesterol,
increased blood pressure, and elevated fasting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The basic mechanism of steatosis is that insulin resistance causes increased lipid deposition in the
hepatocytes of the liver. This abnormal amount of fat causes cell death. When a hepatocyte undergoes
lysis, liver enzymes such as aminotransferases are released. This elevation of liver enzymes in the
bloodstream is a major sign of steatosis since most patients are asymptomatic at this stage. It is
important, however, to rule out the many causes of cell death that would have the same presentation.
As discussed in the research by Birkenfeld, the accumulation of fatty deposits decreases the metabolic
capacity of the liver, and causes inflammation of the hepatic tissue, causing hepatomegaly. This
deposit of triglycerides in the liver instead of the adipose tissue is thought to be caused by altered
levels of cellular products involved in the uptake of fatty acids. While the concentrations of enzyme
lipoprotein lipase, fatty acid transport proteins, and FAT/CD36 are typically high enough in the muscle
to cause lipid uptake into adipose tissue, it is inhibited in insulin resistant NAFLD patients. Insulin
plays a key role in the action of lipoprotein lipase. Without insulin the normal uptake of lipids to
adipose decreases, and their uptake in the liver increases. This is shown by the disproportionally high
level of lipoprotein lipase, fatty acid transport proteins, and FAT/CD36 in the liver to the bodily
adipose tissue. (3) Steatosis is the first stage of NAFLD

The International Scene Of The United States
Due to the effects of Hollywood, space has often been described as the final frontier. While many may
believe in this, in all actuality the last great frontier remains here on earth. This frontier lies just below
the water s surface, and to which the discussion of ownership is remains just as murky as its depths.
Interests in the cultivation of the ocean has grown steadily over the more recent decades as more and
more nations have claimed exclusive use of certain areas of the high seas. Traditionally while many
have enjoyed vastly unhinged freedoms in regards to fishing many coastal nations have extended their
exclusive fishing rights to nearby areas of the ocean, and now these same nations have begun to claim
exclusive control of the seabed or continental shelf. This article will examine how these claims
influence the international scene, explore the legality of the claims, and finally will take on the role of
mediator by examining a proposal in regards to future control of the seabed with a special focus on the
actions of the United States at this time. While the topic of seabed control may seem like a pressing
matter, it wasn t voiced until president Truman in 1945. At this time Truman declared, the national
resources of the sea bed and subsoil of the continental shelf lying contiguous to the United States and
beyond the traditional American three mile limit of the territorial seas were subject to the United
States (Creamer 206). While Truman s proclamation exerted

Fall In Ellijay
Fall on the farm, not literally of course, unless you are me and then yes, I ve fallen on the farm more
times then I want to count! The ground gets slick and with cold rains and the dirt turns to mud and I
have slipped and slid trudging out to the barn to feed the animals and have fallen down in nasty
chicken poo a few times. Now that is a vision I am sure you needed to have of me, right? Even with a
few tumbles, fall season is a wonderful time of year.
It s harvest time and all the hard work over the summer starts to wind down, and the results are
months worth of canned vegetables and jelly and frozen berries. And, this year will be our first apple
harvest. Living in Ellijay, the apple capitol, we would be remiss if we did not have an ... Show more

As the garden begins to die off it s time to open the gates and let the goats and the chickens and ducks
in to clean things up for me. I let them eat whatever they want and take the rest to our compost pile to
mix with soiled hay from our barn and other compost goodies. This gives me black gold compost for
my gardens in the spring. I cut back my roses and the goats devour the dead roses and branches. They
even eat those thorns, I have no idea how they handle them but they love them. I take old hay from the
barn and lay it over all my beds to mulch the ground and feed the soil. Fall is when I plant my
perennials for the next year. I love all that Autumn color in my yard. Golds, reds, yellows and oranges

Essay about La Economia de Ecuador
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Persuasive Essay On Nuclear Weapons
In the day by day uproar of current crises facing the entire humankind, we almost forgot that many
generations are yet to come. Not the individuals who will live quite a while like 100 or 200 years from
now, but 1,000 or a long time from now. Personally, I would use the word hope to describe them since
we are facing dangers, called existential dangers, that threaten to wipe out the entire mankind. These
dangers are not only for big disasters but rather the disasters that could end history in few seconds.
Today, nuclear war and climate change are the biggest threats to civilization and are intrinsically
linked. Beyond the physical destruction of the bomb and the resulting radiation, the impact of even a
small nuclear disturbance could be profound, leading to serious issues of food scarcity. For as long as
humans have walked this Earth we have been concerned with one issue, domestic safety. Everyone
around the world wants to feel as though they are safe from all imminent threats to themselves and
their homes. As technology has progressed so has the threat to our safety as there is never world
peace. The only counterbalance is that as threats have become more advanced our defensive
technologies and tactics have improved as well. We have now reached a period in which innovation is
at maximum capacity and we are also trying to improve and implement new defense strategies. This
innovation has brought us to the day and age of Nuclear Weapons. Nuclear weapons have proven to be

Women At Point Zero
Women at Point Zero by Nawal El Saadawi can be read and interpreted differently by two different
readers by examining three things; how El Saadawi uses metaphors and emotions that only females
can strongly relate to, how the use of villain and victim play a part in how each gender can personally
feel victimized or in the place of the antagonist, how certain aspects of the characters are important to
the plot line and the moral of the story. These parts of the book show how women can sympathize and
connect with Fridaus, while men can only sympathize to a certain extent. We encounter a situation
only really experienced by females on page 13, where Fridaus is being subjected to FGM (female
genital mutilation). In this moment she does not know what is being done and for what reasons. She
describes it as them cutting a piece of flesh from her, which leads to her crying all night and not being
able to attend her usual field ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The villains in the book consist of her father, her uncle, the uncle s wife, Marzouk, Bayoumi,
Abraham, and her husband. Fridaus encounters these men and has unpleasant experiences with them.
For example Bayoumi treated her nicely, took her in, made things feel and seem safe, and created a
dependency upon him; however, he later turns her into his tortured personal sex slave. The only way
she escaped was to be cut out of the house by a carpenter. Her father never gave her love and
affection, or any kind of attention other than on pages 23 and 24 where he hits her hand away from
taking his food which was the only food in the house. If you also look at the victims in the book they
were usually the women and mainly Fridaus herself. Other than all the awful situations that Fridaus
went through, she also does a monologue about how submissive women are also being victimized by
men in power on page 75 and later on page

MACEDONIA COMMITTED TO JOINING NATO AND EU
BLUF: Russian influence has affected countries like Sweden and Macedonia to join NATO. It is
highly likely that Russia will continue to threaten any countries that ally with the U.S. and other
opposed opposition. As a result Russia will likely become more volatile and ramp attacks along
Ukraine and other neighboring countries.
SUMMARY: As of 26JUL17, Macedonia s defense minister reaffirmed her government s commitment
to joining the EU and NATO. EU leaders have declared their readiness to work with the new
government, however, Greece opposes Macedonia s desire to join NATO. While the U.S. has shown

Paternal Rearing Styles
Furthermore, there are other ways besides a daughter s perception of her father that parenting styles
can affect the development of eating disorders in females (Jones, Leung, Harris, 2006). The research
of Jones, Leung, and Harris dove deeper into the different paternal rearing behaviors and core beliefs
and their influence in the development of disordered eating behaviors in females rather than simply
looking at perception alone, and they found some similar themes. Their research discovered that core
beliefs i.e. abandonment, vulnerability to harm, etc. mediated the relationship between different
paternal behaviors and the factors that can directly cause eating psychopathology. Individuals with
disordered eating tended to have more negative memories of paternal rearing and higher levels of
three core beliefs: abandonment, defectiveness/shame, and vulnerability to harm. This research also
found that the daughter perceiving their father as overprotective was predictive of a drive for thinness.
This data shows that paternal rearing behaviors are related to daughters developing and maintaining
eating disorders. Therefore, fathers are pertinent when considering how body image issues/eating
disorders may develop and be maintained. Both of these research studies showed the importance of

  • 2. Positive And Negative Effects Of Thermoregulation Thermoregulation is the control of the body s temperature. Normal body core temperature is typically around 37 °C, staying within a functional range of 35 to 41 °C. (Périard et al., 2015) Temperature during exercise can have both positive and negative effects and therefore it is important to manage it through training and heat acclimatisation. It has been found that power output and speed of cyclists decreased during hot conditions. (Racinais, S et al., 2015) However, due to heat acclimatisation the decrements were progressively increased, therefore suggesting that heat acclimatisation can be used successfully. (Périard et al., 2015). Similarly, it can be found that exercise increases body temperature and the resulting heat stored becomes a factor inhibiting exercise performance. Loss of heat by evaporation can eventually hinder performance. Therefore, it is again found that acclimatization improves performance by affecting heat loss mechanisms. (Reilly et al, 2006). A study was carried out by Webborn et al., (2005) to test weather precooling/cooling in intermittent sprint exercises in a hot environment would reduce a rise in core temperature. 8 male participants took part in 4 heat stress trials with the independent variables being no cooling control, 20 min of precooling and cooling during exercise. Each participant took a pill measuring core body temperature and the results found that during 80 minutes of passive rest in heated conditions, body temperature rose from ... • 3. Evaluating The Options On A Scale Of Utility Introduction Myriad decisions affront us every day. Each decision is decomposable into sub decisions. For instance, consider the mental turmoil (or apathy) required to determine whether you shall go grocery shopping. First, you determine an initial need for grocery shopping (i.e., you are out of milk, eggs, etc.). Next, you consider what you would rather do an evaluation of utility. This cost benefit analysis continues until shopping or staying is perceived with marginally greater utility. Though these calculations require a second or so in your mind, in decomposing this choice, one finds a series of individual decisions contributing to the final. These sub decisions may How much is milk worth my going to the store? or How much does this television show dissuade me from going to the store? However, one can go deeper still. In answering each of the above sub questions, you subconsciously evaluate the options on a scale of utility. Consider this concept though: for any arbitrarily selected value on that scale, you must subconsciously decide if the value is satisfactory a boolean decision (see Fig. 1). Additionally, all but the lowest layer of sub decisions are considerable as independent decisions in different contexts. Accordingly, these decisions are likewise decomposable to final boolean decisions, assuming all high level decisions are decomposable. Also note these boolean decisions are never consciously considered in first order as that requires additional levels ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mississippi Burning Film Analysis 91104 Level 2 Connections 2017 Name: Tramain Marunui Connection Texts and author/director Innocence Hurricane Eye In The Sky Mississippi Burning ⇽Introduction⇾ The main connection I am going to look into in further detail is Innocence. The meaning of Innocence from my opinion is To not be found guilty of a cause or problem eg: Invulnerable. I will be using four pieces of texts to help me back this up. The first text is Hurricane directed by Norman Jewison, Hurricane is about a man named Rubin Carter who s dream is winning the middle weight boxing title but all came to a crash when some unsuspected murders happend. The second text is Eye In The Sky directed by Gavin Hood, Eye in The Sky is about the British army preparing to take out a group of Suicidal Bombers in Nairobi Kenya. The final text is Mississippi Burning directed by Alan Parker, Mississippi Burning is about a mystery killing of 3 civil right workers supporting the African American Race. Body Paragraph 1~ Culpability The first connection I will be explaining is Culpability. From my opinion Culpability means to be blamed for something they didn t do despite them pleading innocent from a Law s point of view. The movie that relates strongly to this is Hurricane, Rubin Hurricane Carter was a Boxing champion but all went downhill when he was accused of murdering three people at a bar in New Jersey. An example of how culpability was used was when in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Space Shuttle Challenger Explosion Summary The case study I chose to analyze was the Space Shuttle Challenger Explosion, by Ronald C. Kramer. Kramer, discussed the four main components that led to the catastrophic explosion. These components included the societal context, the final flaw, the persons behind the final decision to launch, and lastly the failure of social control mechanisms. Unlike popular belief, there was more than just one factor that led to the deadly failure of the launch. Kramer discusses these different concepts that point to state corporate crime as a private business and government agency interacted leading to the explosion. Between the 1960 s and 1970 s there was a drastic change in response to the economic conditions. This caused budget problems while political and public support began to decline (Kramer, 2010). During the 1960 s, NASA reached the moon and received a generous budget with large political support. Due to all this support in the 1960 s, NASA was viewed to be in their glory days. During these so called glory days, NASA could recruit top scientists with a can do attitude who were all willing to work together with a serious commitment to safety and quality control (Kramer, 2010). This societal context is where the problem begins to emerge. There was a large downfall of the space program in the 1970 s due economic strain. Nonetheless, NASA was granted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like other government agencies, NASA was not subjected to any strong oversight by any external control agency, but rather self regulated. As the stress to launch the space shuttle continued to build, there was erosion of norms supporting the use of legitimate means to accomplish organizational goals (Kramer, 2010:41). Kramer makes an important point here when discussing how these factors point to state corporate crime by these corporations doing whatever is necessary to complete the goal, while not thinking about the risk of human ... When I would finally get the chance to be with my best friends and take a road trip to California to go to Disney Land, and now that the time to take that trip has come and gone I would like to talk about my most important journey. Once I woke up I called Alavee to make sure he was awake. I m glad he was because he saved me some time by calling Priya and Rigo to make sure they were getting ready to go. About an hour and a half later we all met up in the school parking lot at about the same time. The next day we wanted to head out early so we could make it to Colorado and have time to see some sites and visit my aunt and uncle. After we said thanks for letting us stay with my Aunt Alks and Uncle Pinakin s house, we were on our way. I wasn t really looking forward to the drive ahead because I remember how long it was the first time I had to make the trip, and it gets uncomfortable. The only thing I like when we go to Colorado is that we lose an hour. This was probably the most boring trip on our journey because most of the land we traveled was in Nebraska and it was flat and plain. There was nothing really significant about this trip until we got to Colorado. Flat land changed into mountains and country turned into city. That part of it was really interesting because it was like we could see the invisible line separating Colorado and Nebraska. It took us a little while to find my aunt in Golden, Colorado because the directions were a little hard to follow. I guess no one wanted to see anything because almost as soon as we were ... • 9. Police Brutality And The Riot During 1992 in South Central Los Angeles, a riot started after the news of four white Los Angeles police officers beating Rodney King was published on TV. It became daily news. The riot caused many crimes to occur; participants of the riot burned down business stores, destroyed properties, and some activities involved guns that have led to many deaths. Many South Central residents were unsatisfied with police brutality and the way their community were being treated. Although the riot only lasted for about a week, about 52 people were killed (Kivisto and Rundblad 82). The whole neighborhood were ruined and destroyed. Ever since that riot, there were over 1 million property loss (Kivisto and Rundblad 82), and over 700 businesses were burned down (Bergesen and Herman para. 1). Many people lost their jobs because their workplace were destroyed. There were many different reasons that may have caused the 1992 riot in Los Angeles to occur. However, not all of them were the main reasons of the riot. There were many side causes, for instance, after the video of Rodney King being beaten was shown on television, residents of South Central Los Angeles started to act up. They were affected by how King was being mistreated and how police brutality played a big role in the video and their society. King s incident was very similar to many other cases. Still now people take quite interest in dissecting and finally commenting on why Obamacare is a success and why Clintoncare/Hillarycare was not. Congress, as one of the key players, was seriously considering plans to provide universal health coverage on one hand, and physicians, big businesses, and Republican lawmakers, on the other hand, as various interest groups opposing the Congress, were more interested in blocking the proposals of the Congress (Bok, 1998). The situation was a dilemmatic one and some reformation was needed. Clinton felt the nerve of the majority of the populace who were in favor of healthcare reform and hence, he made healthcare a primary weapon in his election campaigns. With his win the issue of healthcare reform came to forefront. It must be noted that gradually American businesses were singing in the tune of Clinton due to the fear of losing further businesses due to their disadvantageous position fueled by the rising health costs in the United States and Growing segments of the medical community expresses a desire to consider reforms; even hospitals seemed interested in some scheme that would spare them the heavy burden of giving free medical care to the uninsured (Bok, 1998). Spatial Cognition Mini-Review Mini Review: Spatial Cognition Spatial Cognition is concerned with the achievement, organization, application, and modification of knowledge about spatial surroundings (Bandura., 1963). These capabilities enable animals and humans to manage basic and high level cognitive tasks in everyday life (Bandura.,1971). Spatial cognition studies have assisted to tie cognitive psychology and neuroscience together. Most researchers are concerned about how animals acquire and find information. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The global picture developing from this support is that spatial cognition can be split into two genres which are to some magnitude divided in mammalian brain (Hartley Burgess., 2001). There are various mechanisms for spatial cognition, which pose the ultimate question: Do animals have cognitive maps? (Shettleworth., 2010) These include dead reckoning, beacons, landmarks, routes, and geometry (Shettleworth., 2010). Dead reckoning is an internal sense of the direction and distance of the target from the current position. It is one of the most basic and ubiquitous ways in which animals keep track of their location with respect to a known position. It has been mostly studied in bees, spiders, and ants. Dead reckoning is a mechanism for egocentric spatial localization, that is, the animal is localizing things in the environment with respect to itself. Beacons are local or proximal cues, whereas landmarks are global or distal cues (Shettleworth., 2010). A guide animals can use when features of a goal are not immediately perceptible from a distance in fixed locations are called landmarks (Shettleworth., 2010). They are used based on three factors: template matching and local views, vector sum model, and multiple bearing models. Route learning is often referred to as reaching a goal using a series of landmarks, which is a series of stimulus response (S R) associations (Shettleworth., 2010). This concept can be ... • 13. How Governments Spend Tax Dollars SPECIAL TAXING DISTRICTS Citizens expect government to provide high quality, low cost services through efficient use of public tax dollars. However, local governments with tight budgets and a multitude of needs vying for public funds often struggle to improve or even maintain services within their boundaries. Budget shortfalls may result in non essential programs like parks, libraries and community colleges becoming severely underfunded or defunct, despite strong objections by citizens. County and city governments throughout the United States have increasingly responded to these difficulties by implementing special taxing districts (Turk, 2004). Special taxing districts are separate government entities, which typically administer a single service within a defined geographical boundary. Some districts provide a new service, while others acquire responsibilities once held by general purpose governments. The services they provide are broad, ranging from essential functions like fire protection, highways, and hospitals, to more obscure tasks of mosquito abatement and upkeep of cemeteries (U.S. Census Bureau, 2012). Since 1952, special taxing districts in the United States have increased over 200%, with 38,266 special districts comprising 40% of local government in 2012. During the same time, municipalities have increased slightly, while the number of townships and school districts both decline (U.S. Census Bureau, 2012). • 20. The Subculture Of Craft Beer 1. What is the subculture s core purpose? What motivates, unifies and drives the members? It s Friday night in the cosmopolitan city of Cape Town and all the cool, hip young professionals are out to celebrate the start of the weekend. After doing a tour of the most popular and crowded bars, I found that all of these partygoers are drinking the same drink: Craft Beer. As a student of ethnography I was interested in this social phenomenon of craft beer in Cape Town, and even more so about this subculture of drinkers that would pay more for a craft beer, then a standard, regular, cheaper beer. Craft beer in this context refers to beer that has been brewed locally and has not been distributed by the mass market, for example SAB. After doing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fresh grocery stores such as Food Lovers Market, Woolworths and Spar could partner with Craft Beer Brands to improve their sales. In America , Lowes Foods, a locally bent grocery store chain based in Winston Salem, North Carolina started selling Craft beer. They installed a Beer Den, where customers can sample beer and then buy a pint to drink while they shop. This was such a success that they implemented the same strategy in Whole Foods. The in store taps enable customers to taste different beers and provide opportunities for customers to meet the brewer; a strategy I believe will work well in South Africa. Adventure stores such as Cape Union Mart, Outdoor Warehouse and Due South could also partner with Craft Beer, buy selling it at their stores. My research showed that this sub culture has a strong sense of adventure, which makes the partnership with these adventure stores perfect, in my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Criminologist Personal Statement What do you want be when you grow up ? A common question many are asked from an early age. The answers are usually the same given by children; doctor, astronaut, and police officer. Then through adolescent and teenage years these answers become more specific such as; marine biologists, brain surgeon, and engineer. By the first year of college, most young adults are positive in their future career choices. It was around this time that I answered the age old question for myself. I had set my heart on becoming a Criminologist. As a freshman in college I was fascinated and determined to learn what causes humans to make certain decisions. The type of decisions that motivate an individual to commit a crime, that led me to declare psychology as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Earning a bachelor s degree in Psychology is by far my most important accomplishment. To go on and receive a Master s degree in Criminal Justice would be an even bigger triumph. I know one look at my official transcripts from Clemson University would make one believe that I did not take it seriously. First let me explain, during my undergraduate years I spent a lot of years working a part time job to financially take care of myself. My family did their best helping me with bills and money when they could, but I was pretty much on my own. When I was attending Midlands Tech right after high school I was working six days a week at a restaurant. In the mornings and afternoons I would attend class, after that I would go straight to work. Once leaving work for the night I would usually spend the next three to four hours doing homework and studying, and then I would wake up and do it all over again. For the next year and half, I worked hard to be able to transfer to my dream university. As a person who suffered from anxiety and depression at the time, attending college was a thought I didn t believe would become a reality. Overcoming such a crippling mental disorder was a marvelous achievement. Even during my time at Clemson my record doesn t speak very well, but I did not let the mental illness stop me from attaining my degree. Eventually, I sought help for dealing with anxiety and depression. This allowed me to focus somewhat better on school; regrettably I still was working full time. Not being financially stable legitimately set me back on my grades. Which I regret the most is focusing on paying for Clemson, and not spending more time concentrating on my school work. As previously mentioned I do not want to make it seem like I was not passionate about my studies. Currently it s a hindrance for my acceptance into Columbia College, but I do not regret all the lessons I learned, in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The marketplace was established in Fall of 2010. It is located off of Highway 380 and University Dr. in Denton, Texas. Having only been around for 5 years the shopping center appears very contemporary compared to older shopping centers nearby. The parking lots are clean and trash free and the paint stripes are easily visible. The landscape is very well kept and there are potted flowers in the gathering areas. Overall the shopping center provides a refreshing look to the community. II. Location The Rayzor Ranch Marketplace is conveniently located on University Dr. one of Denton s busiest streets. Located across the street is another shopping center and a total of 3 gas stations surrounding the location. There are 3 main entrances to the shopping center. Consumers can also access the center through a gas station parking lot located right next to the shopping center. Although the traffic is usually free flowing, during rush hours the entryways can become congested. The Shopping Center is constantly booming and has increased the traffic flow in the area. The success of the shopping center would lead me to conclusion that center is a destination. III. Retailer Composition Rayzor Ranch Marketplace is anchored by a Wal Mart supercenter. • 23. God In John Steinbeck s The Book Of Job When thinking about God, two things come to mind; God is perfect and he controls everything. However, chapter forty two in the book of Job is able to show me a side of the Lord that I have never seen before. This story got me thinking about why God does certain things. Sometimes things happen, and people just don t understand why. It also left me with the impression that God has the power to bring evil upon people. God s intentions may not be to harm anyone, but to test their faith and will power. The last thing that I learned from this chapter is that God can reveal people for who they really are. Throughout the book, God has taken away everything from his humble servant Job. His family and animals are gone and there is no apparent reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The thing that catches my attention is what God says before that. God says, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath (Ch.42, Pg.82) This quote shows that God is disappointed with these men and they didn t perform like Job did. The Lord had expectations of these men, and they failed him. Therefore, he makes them supply offerings to Job. I feel that God is proving a point to people that faith and courage can lead to good things. Throughout the time, Job has been put through many hard obstacles. God took everything away from him instantly including his family. To me, losing my family would have to be the most devastating thing that could happen. I once had an incident regarding family and it broke me down. During that time in my life, I almost lost faith in God. I was so confused and upset at why certain things were happening and I had no answer. It seemed like God wasn t looking out for me and it seemed like I couldn t trust him. • 24. Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Essay Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, one of the most common liver disorders, can have several causes, such as congenital, pharmaceutical, or other miscellaneous sources, but the most clinically important etiology is metabolic disorder. Metabolic Disorder, also known as syndrome X, is a collection of symptoms that occur in clusters, and cause a patient to have a higher risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Metabolic syndrome has several hallmark signs. Many of these conditions can occur alone, or secondary to another condition and do not individually point to metabolic syndrome. These characteristic signs are a large waist circumference, high triglyceride levels, reduced HDL cholesterol, increased blood pressure, and elevated fasting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The basic mechanism of steatosis is that insulin resistance causes increased lipid deposition in the hepatocytes of the liver. This abnormal amount of fat causes cell death. When a hepatocyte undergoes lysis, liver enzymes such as aminotransferases are released. This elevation of liver enzymes in the bloodstream is a major sign of steatosis since most patients are asymptomatic at this stage. It is important, however, to rule out the many causes of cell death that would have the same presentation. As discussed in the research by Birkenfeld, the accumulation of fatty deposits decreases the metabolic capacity of the liver, and causes inflammation of the hepatic tissue, causing hepatomegaly. This deposit of triglycerides in the liver instead of the adipose tissue is thought to be caused by altered levels of cellular products involved in the uptake of fatty acids. While the concentrations of enzyme lipoprotein lipase, fatty acid transport proteins, and FAT/CD36 are typically high enough in the muscle to cause lipid uptake into adipose tissue, it is inhibited in insulin resistant NAFLD patients. Insulin plays a key role in the action of lipoprotein lipase. Without insulin the normal uptake of lipids to adipose decreases, and their uptake in the liver increases. This is shown by the disproportionally high level of lipoprotein lipase, fatty acid transport proteins, and FAT/CD36 in the liver to the bodily adipose tissue. (3) Steatosis is the first stage of NAFLD ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. The International Scene Of The United States Due to the effects of Hollywood, space has often been described as the final frontier. While many may believe in this, in all actuality the last great frontier remains here on earth. This frontier lies just below the water s surface, and to which the discussion of ownership is remains just as murky as its depths. Interests in the cultivation of the ocean has grown steadily over the more recent decades as more and more nations have claimed exclusive use of certain areas of the high seas. Traditionally while many have enjoyed vastly unhinged freedoms in regards to fishing many coastal nations have extended their exclusive fishing rights to nearby areas of the ocean, and now these same nations have begun to claim exclusive control of the seabed or continental shelf. This article will examine how these claims influence the international scene, explore the legality of the claims, and finally will take on the role of mediator by examining a proposal in regards to future control of the seabed with a special focus on the actions of the United States at this time. While the topic of seabed control may seem like a pressing matter, it wasn t voiced until president Truman in 1945. At this time Truman declared, the national resources of the sea bed and subsoil of the continental shelf lying contiguous to the United States and beyond the traditional American three mile limit of the territorial seas were subject to the United States (Creamer 206). Not the individuals who will live quite a while like 100 or 200 years from now, but 1,000 or a long time from now. Personally, I would use the word hope to describe them since we are facing dangers, called existential dangers, that threaten to wipe out the entire mankind. These dangers are not only for big disasters but rather the disasters that could end history in few seconds. Today, nuclear war and climate change are the biggest threats to civilization and are intrinsically linked. Beyond the physical destruction of the bomb and the resulting radiation, the impact of even a small nuclear disturbance could be profound, leading to serious issues of food scarcity. For as long as humans have walked this Earth we have been concerned with one issue, domestic safety. Everyone around the world wants to feel as though they are safe from all imminent threats to themselves and their homes. As technology has progressed so has the threat to our safety as there is never world peace. The only counterbalance is that as threats have become more advanced our defensive technologies and tactics have improved as well. We have now reached a period in which innovation is at maximum capacity and we are also trying to improve and implement new defense strategies. This innovation has brought us to the day and age of Nuclear Weapons. Nuclear weapons have proven to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These parts of the book show how women can sympathize and connect with Fridaus, while men can only sympathize to a certain extent. We encounter a situation only really experienced by females on page 13, where Fridaus is being subjected to FGM (female genital mutilation). Paternal Rearing Styles Furthermore, there are other ways besides a daughter s perception of her father that parenting styles can affect the development of eating disorders in females (Jones, Leung, Harris, 2006). The research of Jones, Leung, and Harris dove deeper into the different paternal rearing behaviors and core beliefs and their influence in the development of disordered eating behaviors in females rather than simply looking at perception alone, and they found some similar themes. Their research discovered that core beliefs i.e. abandonment, vulnerability to harm, etc. mediated the relationship between different paternal behaviors and the factors that can directly cause eating psychopathology. Individuals with disordered eating tended to have more negative memories of paternal rearing and higher levels of three core beliefs: abandonment, defectiveness/shame, and vulnerability to harm. This research also found that the daughter perceiving their father as overprotective was predictive of a drive for thinness. This data shows that paternal rearing behaviors are related to daughters developing and maintaining eating disorders.
