Body Systems Worksheet
This year seventh grade science was a significant fascinating year. I was delighted learning
numerous subjects, for example, minerals, rock types, the human body system and how it
functions, the heart, invertebrates, chemicals and chemistry, and so on. I took in a great deal
from science labs, books, review sheets, and powerpoints (that Ms.Castonguay made). The
subjects that were in the course book helped me understand more about the lesson we were
learning. I adapted more vocabulary words, however some perplexing words in the course reading
dazed me. The powerpoints, or slideshow was considerably more accommodating. We needed to fill
in the blanks on the worksheet given to us, and that would help us study for the test. The
worksheets printed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All the references from books, slideshows, worksheets, and labs, gave me a better understanding
of how life works. I learned a great deal of information, and honestly every unit was interesting to
learn. Science is indeed a very important subject in life, because it identifies how each and
everything interacts with the environment. I had a great time with my group, and had a great
time doing and testing out labs, thinking deeper in science. I hope to learn planets, and the
universe next year in science class as well as more topics about life. Indeed this year was
memorable. I can t wait for next year grade 8

The Discovery of Antibiotics
The discovery of antibiotics in the 20th century was a major advancement in medicine. At the
time of the discovery, war was taking place, which resulted in a plethora of infected wounds.
Antibiotics can be described as a use, laboratory effect, or an action of a chemical compound
(Clardy et al). Selman Waksman first used the term in 1941 when describing the small molecules
made by microorganisms that prevent the growth of other microorganisms (Clardy et al).
Antibiotics helped control the infection which allowed many who were injured a second chance to
live. The antibiotic that was first discovered and used to cure war infections was penicillin. Since
the discovery of antibiotics, controlling infections and diseases became easier,... Show more content

The peptidoglycan coat in bacterial cells is formed by a crystal lattice structure that forms linear
chains from a pair of alternating amino acids. The cross linking of peptidoglycan strands by the
transpeptidase enzyme forms an uneven cell wall. Antibiotics, notably penicillin, interfere with this
cross linking, which destroys the bacteria cell wall. More specifically, antibiotics work by
attaching to specific sites on the ribosome, which affects with the bacteria s function during
protein synthesis. The small or 30S ribosomal subunit has binding sites for tRNA molecules.
These sites are known as the aminoacyl (A), peptidyl (P), and exit (E) sites. The process known as
decoding oversees base pairing between the codon of mRNA and the anticodon of tRNA at the A
site, allowing the 30S subunit to distinguish between the similarities of the tRNAs (Brodersen et
al). Because most antibiotics bind to ribosomes, its main target is the rRNA, which results in most
of the binding sites being near the mRNA and the tRNA binding sites, or at sites that undergo
structural rearrangements during the processes of decoding or translocation (Dallas et al). In all,
the antibiotic prevents the bacterium from creating its cell wall, which essentially kills the
bacterium (Brodersen et al).
The appearance and spreading of antibiotic resistant pathogens have given rise to many studies
involving the genetic

Essay about UK s Economy in Europe
UK s Economy in Europe
When one talks about a strong economy, a few key economic indicators will get mentioned;
inflation, unemployment and economic growth. These are considered the three main
macroeconomic indicators of any economy.
To define a strong economy in the simplest form you must have a low rate of inflation, low
unemployment and steady economic growth. During this essay there will be comparisons between
other European countries
(e.g. France, Germany, Luxemburg, Belgium, Spain, Italy) and these economic indictors mentioned
as well as others.
We will start to look at inflation rates. The British economy has slowed over the past 12 months,
but remains among the strongest in the developed world, a report has said ... Show more content on

These figures are sure to result in low consumer confidence, a reduction in spending and therefore
a dent in economic growth. Germany s unemployment does normally rise in November due to the
suspension of seasonal employment but it seems there is a pattern of rising joblessness. Since the
terrorist attacks on September 11th and therefore resulting in global economic slowdown there has
been a number of job losses in the UK but this is relative all over Europe. The government is
insisting there are enough vacancies in the system to rule out a return to high unemployment (BBC
News Online). It may be some time before these recent lay offs reach the unemployment figures
because these people will not be claiming benefits right away; this could be described as
Frictional Unemployment. Because consumer spending is keeping the economy afloat, the impact
of unemployment figures could be crucial for the continued growth of the UK economy (BBC
News Online).
Although there seems to be some sort of confusion about unemployment in the UK due to recent
lay offs of workers, it is obvious that there is no real worry as there is in Germany and France and
soon to be released figures should prove this.
Economic growth is a simpler indicator to look at. It measures
National Income. Gordon Brown announced last week in the pre budget report that there has been
solid growth in the UK over the last

Intercultural Competency Paper
Developing cultural competency is not always easy and it is not something that one acquires
through birth. Instead, it is a developmental process that is nurtured over time. While the growth
process may start off with a memorized list of acceptable and unacceptable behaviors that one is
supposed to follow, true intercultural competenceevolves when behaviors are internalized and occur
naturally because they feel right (Medina LГіpez Portillo, 2004, p. 315). Stress, anxiety, and
difficulties are sometimes signs that an individual is making progress towards cross cultural
deepening (Stephenson, 2002, p. 99). At an extreme, when individuals are overwhelmingly stressed
in a new cultural environment, their failure to adapt is expressed at times by emotional and
physical health issues (Li et al., 2013).
The measurement of an individual s intercultural competence is a complex challenge. The literature
references numerous assessment tools that have emerged over time but it would be difficult to
identify any one particular tool as the best and there seems to be little agreement on what
dimensions of intercultural learning should be tested (Deardorff, 2011; El Ganzoury, 2012;
Godwin Jones, 2013). Griffith et al. (2016), compiled a thorough ... Show more content on

Buckner Harold Analysis
Dear Editor of the Buckner Harold, Buckner s issue that is plaguing its teenagers is that there is
nothing for them to do, when teenagers get bored they can get very destructive the best way to
counter this is to have something for teenagers to do that they like. Buckner is a small town with
not a lot to do for anyone, but the teenagers really get the short end of the stick. Presently there
are playgrounds for younger and smaller kids to play on, and there is a bar and restaurants for
adults, but nothing for teenagers. As of right now there is a small skateboard park put in almost
ten years ago. As with anything built almost ten years ago the skateboard park is getting older and

There are so many destructive choices that teenagers make when they have nothing to keep their
minds occupied. Some of the different choices teenagers have made when bored are vandalism,
speeding while driving, reckless endangerment, smoking, drugs like marijuana, Amphetamines,
Adderall, Opioid painkillers, Synthetic marijuana, Tranquilizers, Cough medicine, Vicodin,
Hallucinogens, OxyContin, Sedatives, Ecstasy (MDMA), LSD, Cocaine, Ritalin, Inhalants, and
Salvia as well as drinking alcoholic beverages while definitely under age. The CDC says that
people from the ages of 12 to 20 make up 11 percent of all alcohol consumed in the United States.
Federal law in the United States says that you must be 21 or older to consume alcohol or any
sort. That 11 percent may not seem so huge when you consider all of the alcohol being consumed
by the United States each year, but remember that 11 percent are all teens and kids under the
legal drinking age. However drinking is not the only path teenagers can choose out of boredom.
Teenagers are also turning to drugs of all sorts no matter what kind of drug it is. As a matter of
fact it is estimated that 3,300 try marijuana for the first time every day in the United States alone.
A study has done that found that 12th graders who smoke marijuana are 65 percent more likely to
get in a car accident. In addition 51.7 teenagers 10th grade through 12th grade have smoked pot
sometime between the last month to the last year. Furthermore though marijuana is not the only
drug that teenagers are using there is also cocaine and heroin. As a matter of fact 2.5 percent of
teens have been caught up in cocaine use of some sort. On top of that did you know that the
average treatment age for a heroin addiction is 23 is most people getting addicted in their teens.
Regrettably another serious issue that costs hundreds of lives a

Sex Work And Sex Workers
Sex workers attributions and systematic play in society have been explored throughout several
centuries of global narration. Sex workers have always been an entity throughout history, seen
as both symbols of beauty as well as patrons of Satan. The sex worker is not stagnant to one
specific gender, but typically has been demonstrated as a female with little identification or
recognition in the within modern day. Throughout the course of this semester we have explored
examples of how sex work and sex workers are documented within different cultures; along with
the western perspective of sex in relation to their country and their global position. The western
perspective of sex work and the perception of sex work in other nations have both parallels and
opposing ideology of this type of labor. This conflicting philosophy towards sex work has caused
internal and external conflict in certain countries. Yet, today it is clear how western influence has
inserted itself into many cultures. The traditional, political, social and religious beliefs of countries
are being permeated with western philosophy. This is and has created a divide amongst the native
people of these nations; creating a clash between traditional and western ideology. The division of
western ideology and traditional belief is particularly evident within Southern India, specifically
focusing on sex workers. Sex workers in Southern India known as Devadasihave been the center of
conflict and the site of

Abstract In Western Australia their are many women that do self abortion recent years in
Australia people have observed pro choice badges and T shirts displaying the symbol of a coat

The, A Independent Label Executive Essay
As a Independent label Executive; I am in a constant game of playing the sheep in a padded
room surrounded by Elephants. I prepare for the abuse of being trampled upon, but hope that
my coyness will somehow make me invisible. I for one can honestly say that I receive thousands
of phone calls during a typical week from independent label owners and execs with the same
sentiments. How can I avoid being Robbed , I ponder? I understand the position of the Majors
and furthermore realize that the consumers are no longer standing in lines at Sam Goody s to

retailer of physical music content, but I never thought we would be able to carry a phone call

have genetically engineered a way to provide a platform for independent label owners and artist
alike. The million dollar question is how will this shape the landscape of the Industry? To better
understand this, one must first realize that the music industry has circum to the same ideology and

raised the sooner the child or young person can be monitored and help or assistance given. The
following things would cause concern about a child or young persons development. If the concern

Physically as the child isn t playing at playtime they might not be as physically active as they
previously were. Responding to any concern has to be done in a professional manner meaning
that you don t talk to the parents or carer of the child without first following procedures. You
would have to have an account and a note of exactly what was seen or heard or anything
witnessed. You would need to state why it was a concern to you and the date and time this
occurred. You would need to have kept a log and it must be true and accurate. You would
approach the class teacher with your concern. If the teacher disregards it you would still need to
report it as you have a responsibility to that child or young person. You would report it to the
relevant person above the teacher until the concern has been reported correctly. Once reported
the relevant person can help the child appropriately to solve the issue correctly hopefully getting
the child back on course. If you fail to take note and report any concerns of child development
the child or young person s development could be affected in various areas. Example 2 You may
start to become concerned about a child or young person if they start to act out of character or
their behaviour changes. You have a child who in class usually participates well and is happy, very
outgoing and confident but one day they come into class looking sad and is very quiet.

this one was truly visible in his songs. The top songs on the album were XO Tour Llif3, The

message in them. XO Tour Llif3 had a deep emotional impact. In the song he uses the line

The Baddest Dog in Harlem
You ll have to be tough to live in your American skin
When we go to school or to our jobs we don t have many worries. The worries we could have could

had to live in fear instead of worries? If in the morning we should fear to go to school or job
because of the place we are living in, that we had to say properly goodbye to your family every day,
what would that do to us?
The Baddest Dog in Harlem is writen by Walter Dean Myers and it is a fictional short story. The

The song American Skin (41 shots) by Bruce Springsteen also gives a good perspective of how it is
in America. He sings No secret my friend, you can get killed just for living in, your American
Skin[9] The similarities in the two texts is the theme. They are both trying to show how the
world is every day for some people in America and to have an influence on us, make us think
about those who aren t as fortunate as we are and how we should appreciate our way of living.
I really think the short story and the song as well gives you something to think about. I believe the
environment the narrator lives in makes him tough. When you re living in a ghetto or an
environment which is rough, you ll have to be tough even though you on the inside is falling
apart. And I think that s what the narrator goes through. They are used to guns and crime, therefore
are they not so afraid of the police and the situation and also the kids have it like this. But when the
narrator sees the boy, he doesn t want to speak about it. It s sad and it seems like this happens too
often and this are the moments were the environment have made you tough.

Difference Between Traditional And Traditional Education
The advancement in technology has introduced a new education program that creates diversity in
the learning systems. Today, many institutions of higher learning are or have introduced an online
program that allows students all over the world to pursue their academic dreams using their
computers. While this is an important innovative idea, most colleges and universities still maintain
the traditional classroom setup where students interact with the educator on a face to face basis.
Apparently, both programs achieve the objective of the educationsystem which is to provide
knowledge and skills to the learners. However, the two have multiple differences that make each
unique and favored by some students than the other. Therefore, this essay examines the differences
and similarities between the on online education and traditional education. The traditional and
online educational programs are similar and different in their use of learning materials, teacher
instructions, student assessment, and assignments.
Firstly, educational materials such as textbooks are an important component of learning.
Apparently, these resources are significant irrespective of the learning mode assumed by the
students. Notably, both distance learners and traditional classroom attendees use either textbooks or
online resources accessible through online libraries. In each case, students have online access to
virtue libraries through student portals that provide academic sources such as journals and online

The Atomic Bomb Changed the World Forever Essay

The development and usage of the first atomic bombs has caused a change in military, political,
and public functionality of the world today. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
revolutionized warfare by killing large masses of civilian population with a single strike. The
bombs effects from the blast, extreme heat, and radiation left an estimated 140,000 people dead.
The bombs created a temporary resolution that lead to another conflict. The Cold War was a
political standoff between the Soviet Union and the United States that again created a new

During the first minute of the explosion many injuries where caused by the instantaneous
penetrating radiation from the nuclear explosion (3). Other casualties came from burning fires that
had ignited throughout the cities from the tremendous heat of the blast (3). The pressure of the
blast waves created flying debris, collapsed buildings, and forcibly hurled people to their death
(3). Undoubtedly those who survived the initial effects of the blast were very lucky. The amount
of deaths caused by the blast itself was incomparable to the number of lives lost to the other effects
after the initial explosion ( Summary of Damages and Injuries 3). The inferno created by the bomb
wasn t from the explosion itself, but the after effects of fires, collapsed buildings, and flying debris

fires combined to form immense fire storms which continued to destroy anything that had not

Analyzing Maya Angelou s Poems

Comparative/Critical Essay Using Elements of Poetry Although she passed in late May of 2014,
Maya Angelou s poems will continue to live in the hearts of many. Ms. Angelou is considered to
be one of America s greatest poets because of her phenomenal work. One, however, really does not
understand the depths of her writings until they research Angelou and discover the extraordinary
woman she really was. Upon researching the life of Angelou, I learned that not only was she a
writer but she was also a dancer, singer, actress, composer, activist, and a mother (Contemporary
Authors Online).
Even though Angelou had many accomplishments, she first had to overcome a difficult childhood of

Each poem has a dominant figurative language that the reader may pick up as they read the
literatures. According to Clark, authors frequently develop mental pictures through the use of
symbolism (Clark). In I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, for example, one can automatically
perceive that Angelou utilized symbolism. Other than the birds representing the human race,
both the sky and the fat worms symbolize the endless opportunities freedom can bring. The bars
of rage , clipped wings, and tied feet, however, are all restraints of what keeps the second bird
from discovering what the world has to offer. Just as we cry out for help or attention when we
feel trapped, the caged bird sings so that others can hear it, far and wide. Moreover, in Still I
Rise, she mainly included similes and metaphors in almost every stanza. I am a black ocean, says
Angelou. Throughout the whole poem, this is her most influential line and it happens to be her
thesis statement. An ocean is commonly acknowledged for its immensity and powerful waves. In
this metaphor, she is referring to her own strong and sassy personality. This sets the tone for the
whole poem, which enables the reader to sense the strength of Angelou s persistent character.
Lastly, when reading Phenomenal Woman , she employs hyperbole when she describes how men
react to her presence. Her inner beauty either makes the men stand or fall down on their knees and
it causes them to swarm around her like a hive of honeybees. This emphasizes how much her inner
mystery attracts those around her. Her inner mystery is another example of a hyperbole, because of
the fact that men and women wonder what makes her so alluring. No one can seem to figure out
that her physical attributes have nothing to do with it. Angelou s secret is simple: Her inner
mystery is her inner beauty. No one can comprehend this, even when she s attempted to explain
because it

Roughnecks And The Saints Essay
Our society has lived around giving people nicknames, labels or titles. Schools specifically can
be a spot where these labels have been detrimental on a person s view of themselves. Labeling or
stigmatizing is when someone uses a label or nickname to degrade someone who is considered
different. Insults and jokes can enforce these labels. People who are different can be labeled
something which may make them feel more insignificant about themselves, and if these labels are
repeated the person may even come to believe the label. In the case of the Saints and the
Roughnecks it was the citizens who stigmatized these teenagers to the point where the kids were
they were not given any other future besides the one that follow what their label was. The
community believed the teenagers could not become better or worse people than what their title...

the students by the community was in fact the Roughnecks and the Saints. Though the Roughnecks
did not seem to have a label variation, it was clear that the Saints were not as perfect as the
community believed them to be. The main reason for this variation is deception.
The Saints hid many of their reckless acts and while around the community they put on faces which
would make them seem like the best of men. The perception of the community was that of young
men who did well in school and sports, even though they had their fun, and were the models of
every day students. With this fake perception the Saints could get away with more acts including
cheating on tests or speeding through a stop sign. Police officers, teachers and more only wanted
obedience from these students. The students though seemly giving obedience in fact used deception

Valerie Holliday s Masculinity In The Novels Of Philip K.
Valerie Holliday s essay Masculinity in the Novels of Philip K. Dick discusses Dick s use of
masculinity and gender, and parallels it to his life and socio political exploration. FindIt@Flinders

Extrapolation is identifiable as a credible journal that invites papers on all areas of speculative

The Pennsylvania Army National Guard is a branch of the United States Army that is mostly used

During the attack, the New York City militiamen fought a brutal struggle with defending German
troops. Heavy casualties were sustained on both sides.
The Germans nicknamed these troops quot;Hell Fighters. quot; Their brave actions earned the
French Croix de Guerre award for the entire regiment which was cited as quot;the regiment that
never lost a man captured, a trench or a foot of ground... quot;
Their next encounter with war was World War 2. The 37th Ohio National Guard quot;Buckeyes

fighting. The Japanese had fortified buildings and the 37th found themselves fighting block by
block, floor by floor, and room by room. One squad leader found himself the object of a bayonet
charge by six Japanese soldiers from 30 yards away. Sergeant Billy E. Vinson warded off the first
bayonet thrusts, then opened up with his rifle and dispatched the attackers with a single sustained
burst of gunfire. He held his ground until all wounded soldiers in the vicinity could be evacuated.

Symbolic Interactionism In The Movie Wetback
The next film that we watched in class was the film Wetback. The term wetback refers to a
person who enters the United States illegally. Symbolic interactionism falls under this category
pretty well actually. Symbolic interactionism is a theoretical perspective in which society is
viewed as composed of symbols that people use to establish meaning, develop their views of the
world, and communicate with one another. Usually people from the United states use this term
for people coming across the border from Mexico or south America. A wetback is a symbol they
put on people from Mexico or south America because they feel that they are inferior to us and have

Junie B. Jones is a twenty eight book series written by Barbara Park for ages five through nine.
The series had been under close scrutiny due to the main character Junie B. s lack of maturity and
self discipline, also, her language and mispronunciation of words. There are some that even believe
that Junie B. actually has some form of learning disability. But what if all of her disciplinary issues,
her shouting in class, her immaturity, and even some of her speech impediments stem from not her
own learning incompetencies, but her teachers . In a classroom a teacher has the ability to either

The Importance Of The Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms
The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms is the most recognized part of the Canadian
Constitution Act of 1982. Since the enactment, the charter has assured the rights of individuals by
preserving those rights in the highest law of the land. Before the charter of rights was enacted
there were several laws that protected the rights and freedoms of individuals such as the 1960 bill
of rights. The bill of rights however lacked the permanence and supremacy of the charter because it
only applied to federal laws rather than provincial laws and it was not apart of the the Canadian
Constitution. Before both the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedomsand the Bill of Rights many
countries came together including canada, to create the Charter of the United Nations after both
world wars demonstrated that human rightswere not inalienable. The objective of the United
Nations was to protect all individual s fundamental human rights and against abuses. Canada not
only signed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, it was John Humphrey s, a professor a
part of the faculty of law at McGill University, who authored the original draft of the Universal
Declaration of Human rights with the assistance of many others.

1982. Since its implementation, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms has protected

Dialysis clinics like DaVita and Fresenius, being the two largest for profit corporations are
fighting against a proposed Senate Bill No.349 (SB 349, 2017) that would necessitate dialysis
clinics in California to have a mandated minimum staffing requirement. Furthermore, SB 349
(2017), as authored by Senator Ricardo Lara, would also require that dialysis clinics to provide
patients with forty five (45) minute transition time, and frequent inspection be done yearly instead
of every five to six years (SB 349, 2017). With this regulation in place, patients will be provided
with a higher level of care. The mandated staffing ratios would also help promote patient safety.

On the contrary, according to Yoder, et al (2013), higher RN per patient have been associated with
improved patient outcomes in acute care facilities , which, if applied to chronic dialysis clinics
could also result in positive patient outcomes. In addition, section 1.e of the legislation pointed out
that worker safety is also enhanced by higher ratios of caregiving staff to patients and transition
time between patients, including by reducing the risk of injury on the job (SB 349, 2017).
However, a regulation like this cannot be without opposition from large for profit corporations and
other interested parties. In fact, The California Dialysis Council legislative office mentioned in the
article Opposition to Mandated Staffing Ratios in Dialysis Clinics SB 349 that mandated ratios
will do patients more harm than good (Foy, K. Arnold, M., 2017). Furthermore, Foy and Arnold
(2017) also stated that the mandated ratios will result in increased cost, leading to facility closures,
and limited patient access to treatment (Foy Arnold, 2013).
However, SB 349 (2017) aims to regulate facilities so they could provide better patient care and
prolong the lives of those who are dependent on life saving measures like dialysis. Patients deserve
better treatment and should not be counted as numbers or costs. Facilities are not inspected as

Throughout the novel, Rachel goes over every aspect of female bullying. She includes first person

Odd Girl Out, Rachel Simmons does a nice job bringing to light a subject that is not explored very

Living From Home Vs. Living From Home And The Workplace
Working from home versus working in the workplace has its advantages. Saving time and
money on the commute alone may be a no brainer for some. However, others may enjoy going
into the workplace and being around other people. The work at home employee can choose to
wear whatever they want from pajamas to shorts and a t shirt. Depending upon the position the
employee that chose to work in the office may have to conform to a set dress code. The employee
that choose to work from home would have more choices over what they want to eat. Most
workplaces have vending machines and cafes with limited choices. Each employee that is offered
the chance to work from home and makes the choice either to or not to work from home has their
reasons. Commutinginto the workplace is time consuming, costly and stressful. The estimated
travel time in the United States is 25.4 minutes according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The 25.4
minutes is based on the one way commute leaving it at 50.8 minutes round trip. Another fun fact
is that the annual cost of commuting to and from the workplace is $1512.00 per calculator
provided by University of California. Commuting can be very stressful and cause road rage and
aggressive driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that over a
seven year period, 218 murders and 12,610 injuries were attributed to road rage. These fun facts
do not seem to be fun at all the loss of time, money and the stress of it all. How nice would be to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Academic Ranking
The Academic ranking is one of the priorities in the society including the students, University,

In order to diagnose a child with ADHD, the child must exhibit at least 6 core symptoms and these
symptoms must cause some impairments in at least 2 setting (such as home and school), although
severe impairment in one setting may suffice (Parens and Johnston). Core symptoms of ADHD are
broken up into two categories: impulse hyperactivity and inattention. Impulse hyperactivity
symptoms include fidgeting, not staying in their seat, blurting out words, and impatience.
Inattentive symptoms include frequent careless mistakes, difficulty paying attention in activities,
and not listening when being directly spoken to. Diagnosis can occur all throughout school years
but most hyperactive children are referred for assessment in the first three grades of school (Weiss
and Hechtman). Along with the diagnosis of ADHD, certain other conditions may be diagnosed at
the same time. These are called co morbid conditions and are often found to correlate with attention
deficit. Depression and epilepsy are two of these conditions, although not everyone with ADHD
will have them. Also, before a valid diagnosis of ADHD is made other medical conditions must be
ruled out. Some of these disorders are hypothyroidism, child abuse, chronic illness, and substance

they must not exist in the patient. Once a

Social Interaction And Impression Management
In the process of emphasizing the centrality of avoiding embarrassment as a guide for social
interaction, Goffman dismisses the analysis of emotion and feelings involved at an internal level.
A fact touched on by author Arlie Hochschild(1979), who uses an interactionist perspective to
explain that focusing on external impressions, such as body demeanor and appearances takes
away from inner reactions at a deeper level. Here direct management of feelings challenges the
concept of acting. Therefore, while we do ultimately react in accordance to our roles and do so
with poise, how we manage to control the self to do this is followed by our feelings, which is an
internal reaction. Hochschild s(1983),work in The Managed Heart: Commercialization of Human
Feeling discusses what she considers is key in understanding social interaction and impression
management. Taking from Konstantin Stanislavski s concept of method acting , Hochschild forms
the concept of deep acting . She illustrates the concept of impression management through deep
acting that is different from Goffman s notion of acting. In deep acting, the individual can manage
their impression on others by managing how they feel. Here the actor has transpired into the
character to a level where they are no longer acting but reacting to their surroundings. In deep
acting, the individual relies on their demeanor to act a certain way in a given situation. She
explains this process as relying on past experiences and our

This is first seen when all she is left with is the naming, Tereu, Tereu (Gailey 36; line 4) showing

her gift (Gailey 36; line 6) isn t the much helpful and as healing (Gailey 36; line 7). Coincidently,
the female nightingale is mute, while the males are the ones who sing which is weird in the
setting of the poem. Her sister Pronce is even mentioned, yet she forgets (Gailey 36; line 8) and
sings along nature. Philomel however never changes her tune (Gailey 36; line 10) and continues
to sing of something more, possibly important to her. So after they were turned into birds,
Pronce confided with nature and thus became what she now is, however in Philomel s case, she
still hung onto what happened to her and feels it still needs to be heard. Towards the end of the
poem, Philomel is described as stubborn (Gailey 36; line 15) possibly referring to this difference

Philomel in that she refuses to be what she is and still has something that she wants to be heard.

Joseph Henry
Joseph Henry lived from 1797 to 1878. Of Scottish decent, Henry was a son of a day laborer in
Albany, New York. He was sent to live with his grandmother as a small boy in a village about 40
miles from Albany. At the age of thirteen, be became apprenticed to a watchmaker. He then
became interested in theatre and was offered employment as a professional actor, but instead he
attended Albany Academy where he was provided with free tuition. He has always been
interested in science and by 1823 his education was very far advanced that he was assisting the
teaching of science courses. By 1826, after a shift as a district schoolteacher and as a private tutor,
he was appointed Professor of Mathematics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a current is flowing, self inductance tends to keep it from building up. Henry found that self
inductance is greatly affected by the configuration of the circuit, especially the coiling of the wire.
He also discovered how to make non inductive windings by folding the wire back on itself.
At the same time Henry was doing all this, another physicist, Michael Faraday was doing similar
work in England. Henry was slow in publishing his results and was unaware of Faraday s work,
therefore Faraday is recognized as the discoverer of mutual inductance, which is the basis of
transformers, while Henry is only accredited for the discovery of self inductance.
At the age of 35, Yales geologist, Benjamin Silliman, was consulted regarding the possible
appointment of Henry to Princeton. Silliman s response was negative in saying that Henry has no
superior in our country, and Henry, who was modest, defended the fact that he never graduated
any colleges and he is principally self educated. Henry therefore got the job. His initial salary at
Princeton was $1,000 per annum plus a house. The Trustees also provided for $100 for the
purchase of a new electrical machine. At Princeton, Henry worked with his brother in law, Stephen
Alexander, in the observation of sunspots and continued his own

Social Norms And Violatio Folktales
As society we have never given much thought as to how we function to how society . This
statement is not only true on a macro level, such as how our government functions along with
other aspects of society but also as individuals. Furthermore, we as individuals rarely stop to think
about the reasons we have to react the way we do in certain situations. It can be almost guaranteed
that we react in these ways because of norms. Norms can be defined as expectations of right
behavior (Henslin 2015). Norms such as these can be shaped by society, government or culture.
These norms can also bring along norm violations such as folkways, moresand sanctions. However
very few times do we acknowledge how much these norms inflict in our lives. However, this...

The reason we think of a folkway is because we expect to see the idea of life course taking place
or as it is defined The stages of our life as we go from birth to death (Henslin 2015). In addition
when we think of a young adult around the age of 23 we think of someone who may be easily
embarrassed or very aware of what the public might think or say. We may also think of this norm
violation as a sanction or someone s expression of approval for upholding a norm or expressions
of disapproval for violating a norm (Henslin 2015). This can occur from those individuals who
expect a grown adult to act as such. This occurred with those who disapproved the teacher and
stared at her in a disapproving. Furthermore, those who just laughed might have done it being mean
or because they just take life lightly. As for the one person who just asked about her attire he might
have done it so he would not make the mistake of not judging her prematurely, which is something
society should do as a whole. However, nothing struck me more deeply than my own norm

I was delighted learning numerous subjects, for example, minerals, rock types, the human body system and how it functions, the heart, invertebrates, chemicals and chemistry, and so on. I took in a great deal from science labs, books, review sheets, and powerpoints (that Ms.Castonguay made). The subjects that were in the course book helped me understand more about the lesson we were learning. I adapted more vocabulary words, however some perplexing words in the course reading dazed me. The powerpoints, or slideshow was considerably more accommodating. We needed to fill in the blanks on the worksheet given to us, and that would help us study for the test. The worksheets printed... I had a great time with my group, and had a great time doing and testing out labs, thinking deeper in science. At the time of the discovery, war was taking place, which resulted in a plethora of infected wounds. Antibiotics can be described as a use, laboratory effect, or an action of a chemical compound (Clardy et al). Selman Waksman first used the term in 1941 when describing the small molecules made by microorganisms that prevent the growth of other microorganisms (Clardy et al). Antibiotics helped control the infection which allowed many who were injured a second chance to live. The antibiotic that was first discovered and used to cure war infections was penicillin. Since the discovery of antibiotics, controlling infections and diseases became easier,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The peptidoglycan coat in bacterial cells is formed by a crystal lattice structure that forms linear chains from a pair of alternating amino acids. The cross linking of peptidoglycan strands by the transpeptidase enzyme forms an uneven cell wall. Antibiotics, notably penicillin, interfere with this cross linking, which destroys the bacteria cell wall. More specifically, antibiotics work by attaching to specific sites on the ribosome, which affects with the bacteria s function during protein synthesis. The small or 30S ribosomal subunit has binding sites for tRNA molecules. These sites are known as the aminoacyl (A), peptidyl (P), and exit (E) sites. The process known as decoding oversees base pairing between the codon of mRNA and the anticodon of tRNA at the A site, allowing the 30S subunit to distinguish between the similarities of the tRNAs (Brodersen et al). Because most antibiotics bind to ribosomes, its main target is the rRNA, which results in most of the binding sites being near the mRNA and the tRNA binding sites, or at sites that undergo structural rearrangements during the processes of decoding or translocation (Dallas et al). In all, the antibiotic prevents the bacterium from creating its cell wall, which essentially kills the bacterium (Brodersen et al). The appearance and spreading of antibiotic resistant pathogens have given rise to many studies involving the genetic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay about UK s Economy in Europe UK s Economy in Europe When one talks about a strong economy, a few key economic indicators will get mentioned; inflation, unemployment and economic growth. These are considered the three main macroeconomic indicators of any economy. To define a strong economy in the simplest form you must have a low rate of inflation, low unemployment and steady economic growth. During this essay there will be comparisons between other European countries (e.g. France, Germany, Luxemburg, Belgium, Spain, Italy) and these economic indictors mentioned as well as others. We will start to look at inflation rates. The British economy has slowed over the past 12 months, but remains among the strongest in the developed world, a report has said ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These figures are sure to result in low consumer confidence, a reduction in spending and therefore a dent in economic growth. Germany s unemployment does normally rise in November due to the suspension of seasonal employment but it seems there is a pattern of rising joblessness. Since the terrorist attacks on September 11th and therefore resulting in global economic slowdown there has been a number of job losses in the UK but this is relative all over Europe. The government is insisting there are enough vacancies in the system to rule out a return to high unemployment (BBC News Online). It may be some time before these recent lay offs reach the unemployment figures because these people will not be claiming benefits right away; this could be described as Frictional Unemployment. Because consumer spending is keeping the economy afloat, the impact of unemployment figures could be crucial for the continued growth of the UK economy (BBC News Online). Although there seems to be some sort of confusion about unemployment in the UK due to recent lay offs of workers, it is obvious that there is no real worry as there is in Germany and France and soon to be released figures should prove this. Economic growth is a simpler indicator to look at. It measures National Income. Gordon Brown announced last week in the pre budget report that there has been solid growth in the UK over the last ... • 6. Intercultural Competency Paper Developing cultural competency is not always easy and it is not something that one acquires through birth. Instead, it is a developmental process that is nurtured over time. While the growth process may start off with a memorized list of acceptable and unacceptable behaviors that one is supposed to follow, true intercultural competenceevolves when behaviors are internalized and occur naturally because they feel right (Medina LГіpez Portillo, 2004, p. 315). Stress, anxiety, and difficulties are sometimes signs that an individual is making progress towards cross cultural deepening (Stephenson, 2002, p. 99). At an extreme, when individuals are overwhelmingly stressed in a new cultural environment, their failure to adapt is expressed at times by emotional and physical health issues (Li et al., 2013). The measurement of an individual s intercultural competence is a complex challenge. The literature references numerous assessment tools that have emerged over time but it would be difficult to identify any one particular tool as the best and there seems to be little agreement on what dimensions of intercultural learning should be tested (Deardorff, 2011; El Ganzoury, 2012; Godwin Jones, 2013). Some of the different choices teenagers have made when bored are vandalism, speeding while driving, reckless endangerment, smoking, drugs like marijuana, Amphetamines, Adderall, Opioid painkillers, Synthetic marijuana, Tranquilizers, Cough medicine, Vicodin, Hallucinogens, OxyContin, Sedatives, Ecstasy (MDMA), LSD, Cocaine, Ritalin, Inhalants, and Salvia as well as drinking alcoholic beverages while definitely under age. The CDC says that people from the ages of 12 to 20 make up 11 percent of all alcohol consumed in the United States. Federal law in the United States says that you must be 21 or older to consume alcohol or any sort. That 11 percent may not seem so huge when you consider all of the alcohol being consumed by the United States each year, but remember that 11 percent are all teens and kids under the legal drinking age. However drinking is not the only path teenagers can choose out of boredom. Teenagers are also turning to drugs of all sorts no matter what kind of drug it is. As a matter of fact it is estimated that 3,300 try marijuana for the first time every day in the United States alone. A study has done that found that 12th graders who smoke marijuana are 65 percent more likely to get in a car accident. In addition 51.7 teenagers 10th grade through 12th grade have smoked pot sometime between the last month to the last year. Sex workers have always been an entity throughout history, seen as both symbols of beauty as well as patrons of Satan. The sex worker is not stagnant to one specific gender, but typically has been demonstrated as a female with little identification or recognition in the within modern day. Throughout the course of this semester we have explored examples of how sex work and sex workers are documented within different cultures; along with the western perspective of sex in relation to their country and their global position. The western perspective of sex work and the perception of sex work in other nations have both parallels and opposing ideology of this type of labor. This conflicting philosophy towards sex work has caused internal and external conflict in certain countries. Yet, today it is clear how western influence has inserted itself into many cultures. The traditional, political, social and religious beliefs of countries are being permeated with western philosophy. This is and has created a divide amongst the native people of these nations; creating a clash between traditional and western ideology. You would need to have kept a log and it must be true and accurate. You would approach the class teacher with your concern. If the teacher disregards it you would still need to report it as you have a responsibility to that child or young person. Each poem has a dominant figurative language that the reader may pick up as they read the literatures. According to Clark, authors frequently develop mental pictures through the use of symbolism (Clark). In I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, for example, one can automatically perceive that Angelou utilized symbolism. Other than the birds representing the human race, both the sky and the fat worms symbolize the endless opportunities freedom can bring. The bars of rage , clipped wings, and tied feet, however, are all restraints of what keeps the second bird from discovering what the world has to offer. Just as we cry out for help or attention when we feel trapped, the caged bird sings so that others can hear it, far and wide. Moreover, in Still I Rise, she mainly included similes and metaphors in almost every stanza. I am a black ocean, says Angelou. Throughout the whole poem, this is her most influential line and it happens to be her thesis statement. An ocean is commonly acknowledged for its immensity and powerful waves. In this metaphor, she is referring to her own strong and sassy personality. This sets the tone for the whole poem, which enables the reader to sense the strength of Angelou s persistent character. Lastly, when reading Phenomenal Woman , she employs hyperbole when she describes how men react to her presence. Her inner beauty either makes the men stand or fall down on their knees and it causes them to swarm around her like a hive of honeybees. This emphasizes how much her inner mystery attracts those around her. Her inner mystery is another example of a hyperbole, because of the fact that men and women wonder what makes her so alluring. No one can seem to figure out that her physical attributes have nothing to do with it. Angelou s secret is simple: Her inner mystery is her inner beauty. In fact, The California Dialysis Council legislative office mentioned in the article Opposition to Mandated Staffing Ratios in Dialysis Clinics SB 349 that mandated ratios will do patients more harm than good (Foy, K. Arnold, M., 2017). Furthermore, Foy and Arnold (2017) also stated that the mandated ratios will result in increased cost, leading to facility closures, and limited patient access to treatment (Foy Arnold, 2013). However, SB 349 (2017) aims to regulate facilities so they could provide better patient care and prolong the lives of those who are dependent on life saving measures like dialysis. Inattentive symptoms include frequent careless mistakes, difficulty paying attention in activities, and not listening when being directly spoken to. Diagnosis can occur all throughout school years but most hyperactive children are referred for assessment in the first three grades of school (Weiss and Hechtman). • 37. Social Interaction And Impression Management In the process of emphasizing the centrality of avoiding embarrassment as a guide for social interaction, Goffman dismisses the analysis of emotion and feelings involved at an internal level. A fact touched on by author Arlie Hochschild(1979), who uses an interactionist perspective to explain that focusing on external impressions, such as body demeanor and appearances takes away from inner reactions at a deeper level. Here direct management of feelings challenges the concept of acting. Therefore, while we do ultimately react in accordance to our roles and do so with poise, how we manage to control the self to do this is followed by our feelings, which is an internal reaction. Hochschild s(1983),work in The Managed Heart: Commercialization of Human Feeling discusses what she considers is key in understanding social interaction and impression management. Taking from Konstantin Stanislavski s concept of method acting , Hochschild forms the concept of deep acting . She illustrates the concept of impression management through deep acting that is different from Goffman s notion of acting. In deep acting, the individual can manage their impression on others by managing how they feel. Here the actor has transpired into the character to a level where they are no longer acting but reacting to their surroundings. In deep acting, the individual relies on their demeanor to act a certain way in a given situation. She explains this process as relying on past experiences and our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a bird she on the bright side has the ability to sing, but her gift (Gailey 36; line 6) isn t the much helpful and as healing (Gailey 36; line 7).
