Unbroken
Track star Gail Devers once said, Sometimes we fall, sometimes we stumble, but we can t stay down.
We can t allow life to beat us down. Everything happens for a reason, and it builds character in us, and
it tells us what we are about and how strong we really are when we didn t think we could be that
strong. In the nonfiction book Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand, the determined Louis Zamperini
showed that life could not beat him down, and never gave up, not even in the light of the impossible.
Louie s strong minded determination continues to be a factor in his survival until the very end.
Before he was introduced to running, Louie was somewhat of a heathen. He was a thief and refused to
be controlled: If it was edible, Louie stole it (6). Knowing that food was so easy to take, Louie indeed
took it. When he heard that some keys fit more than one lock, he tried over and over until his key fit
into the gym of the school. He became naturally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His entire life was filled to the brim with challenges to overcome. And yet he always found a way to
jump the hurdle that is life. The Bird, whose overall goal was to break Louie, could not even dent the
surface: The Bird continued to beat him, every day. As his attacker struck him, Louie bore it with
clenched fists and eyes blazing (258). He was knocked down repeatedly; however, Louie could not be
broken. Louie s resilience as a POW was his key to entering the house of survival: He felt his
consciousness slipping, his mind losing adhesion, until all he knew was a single thought: He cannot
break me (302). All of the mind strengthening conversations and on the raft proved useful throughout
his experience as a POW, and Louie s hopeful attitude lived on. Although his body was shattered, his
will remained strong and the ultimate survival cake was made with the perfect combination of

Holden Caulfield Red Hunting Hat Analysis
In the novel Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger, Holden Caulfield is a 17 year old junior who is
expelled from Pencey Prep because of academic failure. He then decides to travel around New York
taking it easy before returning home to face his parents. Holden has experienced a lot, the death of his
younger brother, Allie who he idolizes. As the novel progresses the reader can sense that Holden is a
strange boy, from his constant lies to his peculiar views on things. A major symbol mentioned
throughout the novel is Holden s red hunting hat which represents his uniqueness and individuality. In
the beginning of the novel Holden is in New York. Holden is the manager of his school s fencing
team, the team was supposed to have a game in but he forgot the foils in a subway station. After they
get off the subway, a red hunting hat in the window of a sports shop catches Holden s attention and he
ends up buying it for a buck. I put on this hat that I d bought in New York that morning, it was a red
hunting hat, with one of those very, very long peaks. (pg. 17) Even though Holden is aware that the
hat is a hunting hat, he doesn t wear it to hunt. He wears it just because he likes how it looks,
symbolizing the rebellious side of Holden. Near the end Holden is meeting up with Phoebe, Holden
plans on hitch hiking out west that afternoon and wants to return her Christmas money back to her as
well as to say goodbye. Finally, I saw her through the glass part of the door. The reason I

Rape In War
As time and history have progressed, the institution of media has captured and held control over the
public ideology. In this modern capitalistic age, the power held over the media as developed and been
re directed. The media acts as the key distributor and translator of the ideology within our society
throughout history and in the present day. However, the context in which we communicate is
changing, and with this, the relationship and interaction between politics, media and public life have
altered (Blair, T 2007). Changed to an extent where the information being relayed may indeed be
harmful to society, in the absence of objective, complete and accurate relaying of information (Blair, T
2007). Though the free society that we operate in does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rape in wartime is as old as war itself and is considered an expected outcome of such violent conflict
(Bracewell 2000). The sexual invasion of a woman s body is the ultimate act in emasculating her
husband and eliciting turmoil in the community (Boose 2002, pp. 73) as it undermines the warrior and
displays his inability to protect his territory , particularly if performed in front of him. This
performance of terrorisation and humiliation was particularly prevalent in the Red Army s invasion of
Germany in World War Two, where the degradation ceremony would only occur in the presence of
witnesses (Johnson 2002). Not only this but the widespread rape of a nation s women is an attack on
the symbolic ideology of a nation (Gottschall J, 2004). A nation s women embody its core values and
are seen a beacons of purity and thus are marked as an enemy target, a territory to be to be conquered
(Mostov 1995). Its effects are akin to bombings, gassing and other genocidal acts, which has allowed
for the evolution of wartime rape into a key, systematic weapon of war, particularly in regards to its
long term consequences. The methodical rape of Tutsi women during the Rwanda Genocide was
implemented with the strategic intent to infect victims with HIV (Nduwimana 2004). This genocidal
act was deliberately enacted to deliver harm that is worse death, to heighten the suffering and
destruction of communities and humiliation of men. Villages were forced to watch some if not all of
their women fall prey to the disease, an on going reminder of the times of war and the nightmarish
acts that transpired (Nduwimana 2004). Rape in times of violence is indeed a historical phenomenon
based upon the expression of power and dominance. It has occurred persistently in human civilisation,
regardless of location,

Each chapter on quantitative methods describes key theoretical choices and how these are executed in
IBM SPSS Statistics. Unlike most other books, we do not discuss theory or SPSS, but link the two.
This is a book for non technical readers! All chapters are written in an accessible and comprehensive
way so that non technical readers can also easily grasp the data analysis methods. Each chapter on
research methods includes simple examples to help the reader get a hands on feel for the technique.
Each chapter concludes with an illustrated real life case, demonstrating the application of a
quantitative method. We also provide a second, real life case with an accompanying dataset, thus
allowing readers to practice what they have learnt. Other pedagogical features such as key words,
examples, and end of chapter questions support the contents. This book is concise, focusing on the
most important aspects that a market researcher, or manager interpreting market research, should
know. Many chapters provide links to further readings and other websites besides that of the book.
Several mobile tags in the text allow readers to quickly browse related web content using a mobile
device (see section How to Use Mobile Tags ). This unique merger of offline and online content offers
readers a broad spectrum of additional and readily accessible information. A comprehensive Web

Solving The Workplace After Conflict Management Training
Abstract
Conflict is an unavoidable part of life and health care is not excluded. The manner in which conflict is
resolved has a major impact in the workplace, be it favorable or unfavorable. Conflict can arise at
many professional levels in health care from the nursing staff to the physician. Conflict also comes in
many forms within the health care system. Stress, personal differences, scarce resources and staffing,
and also burnout can lead to conflict in health care (Pavlakis, Kaitelidou, Theodorou, Galanis, Sourtzi
Siskou, 2011). Managers must be properly trained to identify the source of conflict at its origin and
utilize proper problem solving techniques in order to obtain a positive outcome that every person can
benefit from. This literature review examines the abilities of managers to resolve conflict in the
workplace after conflict management training.
Introduction
There is conflict in every aspect of life, health care is not exempt. According to Durland s Medical
Dictionary, conflict is a struggle arising from the clash of incompatible or imposing impulses, wishes,
drives, or external demands (Saunders, 2007). Conflict can arise at many professional levels and can
also come in many forms within the health care system. Conflict is often times seen as undesirable but
the way in which conflict is handled can make it an opportunity to learn and build from or it can make
it harmful to a department or facility. On average, mangers spend

food molecules, are oxidized / reduced (circle one) to CO2. The H from these molecules ends up
primarily on the coenzyme NADH. NADH is oxidized / reduced (circle one) compared to NAD+.
Oxidation can be defined as a gain in oxygen or loss of hydrogen, loss in electrons, and therefore loss
of potential energy. Reduction is gain of hydrogen, or gain in electrons, and gain of potential energy.
The organic food molecules are OXIDIZED to CO2. This is the process of glycolysis and making
energy. The carbon molecules gain oxygen and are oxidized, and release all that energy to generate
ATP. NADH is the REDUCED from of NAD+, because of the gain in hydrogen, or gain in electrons.
The energy from NADH powers the electron transport chain. Explain in detail what happens to the H+
and the e from the H by answering questions 2 10. 2. (0.5) Is the flow of electrons exergonic ( G) or

The Dangers Of Money And Greed In The Pardoners Tale
The danger of money and greed was important in chaucer s time because it describes the character and
what that character was like. For example The immoral Pardoner, who, in a sense, sells away his soul
for the sake of his own avarice, puzzles many modern readers with his strange logic. Already having
laid his considerable guilt upon the table, this corrupted agent of the Church attempts to pawn off his
counterfeit relics for a generous price. Also in the Pardoner s tale the rioters show the dangers on
money and greed because they live loose lives and spend time gambling and drinking in pubs, they are
also disgusting and hateful. A brief summary of the Pardoner tale is The pardoner is a beautiful blonde
haired man who is being loved by everyone. However he is very corrupted and smart and sells fake
religious stuff to people saying very good compliment. On the other hand, the reeve is very serious
and honest business man. He is very smart enough to know what criminals think and do. The pardoner
story tells a great example of the seven deadly sins and reeve s story is mocking of the miller. The
rioters make his own plan to buy poison and kill his friends, and at the end the youngest got stabbed
and killed by the other two,to celebrate the two drank wine which was poisoned by the young
rioter, thus they all died. The moral of this story is that greed can lead to death. Another tale that is an
example is the miller s tale, Symkyn, is very well known for stealing other

Irregular Migrants: Amnesty and Right to Stay
Introduction:
Irregular migrants are people living in a nation illegally. They do not have the citizenship of the
country, or they might have come in as illegal refugees. Residents in another nation with visas but they
have passed they due date or has expired without having obtained the citizenship of the particular
nation are also viewed as irregular migrants in that particular country. Liberal democratic countries, on
the other hand, are those that are not lead under a dictatorship. Progressive countries allow free and
fair election to multi parties. They also give rights and freedom to its citizens. In most case,
progressive governments also give certain privileges to their citizens such as freedom for adults above
the age of 18years to vote and freedom of employment. They also provide free public education to its
citizens and access to healthcare services in public hospitals.
The debate over the years, however, has been whether liberal democratic nations should tolerate the
entry of irregular migrants into their countries. Questions have also been asked as to what legal and
moral obligation these nations have over the vulnerability of illegal migrants into ... Show more

Pedagogy Of The Oppressed, Joel Spring And Jane Martin s...
Education is referred as the profusion of knowledge that is acquired by an individual when or after
studying specific subject matters or having an experience in life lessons that provides and
understanding of a certain concept. It requires instructions from composed literature or an individual.
Most familiar forms of education result from several years of schooling that integrates studies of
various subjects. Education provides learners with knowledge about the globe. It enables the learners
to acquire good career. It assists in building character of individuals. Education leads to enlightenment
and lays a firm foundation of a strong country. It makes a human being to be complete. Philosophers
urge that the fact that education enriches the individual s understanding of themselves; it is also an
investment and can have a huge impact on a nation s development and growth (Jackson , 2012). This
paper in a wider view will analyze the concept of education following Paulo Freire Pedagogy of the
Oppressed, Joel Spring and Jane Martin s The Educated Person perspectives. It will analyze the
purpose of education according to these three sources.
Pedagogy of the Oppressed remains to be the widely known work of Paulo Freire. The books analyze
the struggle for equity and justice within the educational system and it proposes a new pedagogy. In
regard to education, Paulo Freire argues that words consists a radical interaction between actions and
reflection. He insists that true words

Community Policing Era Paper
Policing in the United States has evolved throughout history. The best way to understand it is by
becoming familiar with its history. There have been three policing eras in the United States and they
were the Political Era, the Reform Era, and the Community Policing Era. The Community Policing
Era is the form that is presently used in the United States. Approximately 350 years ago, the first law
enforcement system was started in Boston. These were the early days of American law enforcement.
When the colonist settled there in 1630 they appointed constables. Constables were like a sheriff and
in 1631 they appointed watchman an a few volunteers. They made sure that the streets were safe,
reported fires and apprehended and arrested anyone violating the law. The early policing era was
based off the English structure. The early police system was reactionary and they only responded
when a request was made by a victim or witness. In the last half of the nineteenth century, the Sheriff
used the concept of Posse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Community Policing Era promotes the partnership of the community, government and fellow
police departments. It engages the community in addressing the cause of crime and the fear of crime
within the community. In the Community Policing Era, the police officers are assigned to a specific
area and they get to know the people within that area. They went back to the use of foot patrol and
also established bicycle patrols. The use of the vehicle was still in place as well but they are not just
driving around in their vehicles like in the Reform Era. This brought back one of Peele s principles
which involves creating a more involved relationship with the community and this in turn resulted in
the community assisting the police in deterring crime. This era is focusing on building relationships
and showing that the police care about the

Early Rock And Roll Research Paper
Early Rock and Roll
The year is 1960. You walk into the crowded concert, and take your seat as the sound of guitar riffs fill
your ears. The crowd cheers, as the singer struts onstage with his guitar and starts to wave a tale with
music as he sings along to his strumming guitar. This is early rock n roll. In this paper I will first tell
you about the history of early rock and roll. Then I will tell you about the famous composers of this
music style and the way it has impacted our society, in the past and present.
Rock and roll is nicknamed American music. This style of music arrived in the hearts of composers in
the mid 1950 s. It is speculated that the first early rock and roll song was Jimmy Preston s Rock this
joint . Rock and roll was combined with many styles of music to make it what we hear of today, and
some of those styles are boogie woogie, the rhythms of R B, country, gospel and blues. It mostly just
evolved from the 1950 s early rhythm and blues. The words rock and roll and concept of rock and roll
was first used by Alan Freed, a Cleveland DJ, who used it when playing the song My Baby Rocks Me
with a Steady Roll . This music ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the 1960 s, rock and roll became an active voice of America s anti war movement. Rock and roll
changed dancing, and instead of only fancy dances, where you had to look and act your best, this
music offered a fun way to dance and have fun with your friends. The twist was one of the most
popular dances, and it was one that most everyone used. Also, the crazy rock and roll artists had crazy
clothes that affected the way people dressed in some cases. Although, some songs impacted societies
in the wrong way, especially the songs that encouraged sex, violence, drugs, and drinking. But, not all
songs were like that, and instead offered new hopes in times of danger, including WWII. Those are
some ways how early rock and roll has affected our

The Experience Of My Life In New York City
My dad and I had always lived in New York City. After 15 years of experience and the guidance of my
older brother, you could say that I knew my way around town. The coffee shops with the best lattes,
the highest swinging swing sets in every park, and most importantly, the buildings with the best views.
You would think that after living here for so long I would get sick of seeing the view of the city every
day, but it just never gets old. The best spot is at the top of my apartment building, on the far northeast
corner, looking over the horizon and onto the Hudson. There was no other way of completing my day,
no matter the rain, snow, or blazing heat I sat on that rooftop every night as the sun disappeared, along
with the overworked New Yorkers for the night. The most interesting part is, every single night, the
color of the sky is always slightly different. No sunset was ever the exact same. Anyways, as I was
walking back down the stairs to my condo, 7B, I got the jitters in my stomach, I was beyond excited
for tomorrow, the first day of Winter Break. My older brother, Todd, was taking me and my best friend
Hannah up to Vermont to go skiing. I opened our apartment door, took a quick shower, and fell asleep
with Cooper on my lap while watching Full House. I woke up with dried drool on my left cheek, and I
heard the sound of my dad making his daily smoothie. I got ready as fast as I could, because I was
late, as always. I ran down our seven flights of stairs and met Todd

What Is The Differences Between D Artagnan And M. Bonacieux
D artagnan the central character of the novel is a young ambitious man whose dream is to become a
musketeer like his dad. He is about 21 years old and is from Gascony. He is brave , noble ambitious,
crafty, and intelligent. He is driven by love and ruled by chivalry but occassionally prone to amoral
behavior due to his pride. Monseur Bonacieux who is D artagnans landlord and Madame Bonacieux s
husband. His wife was kidnapped and went to D artagnan for help. Even though D artagnan was a
young ambitious and brave man he has some similarities to the character Bonacieux who is about 50
years old , married and retired. Some of the similarities between D artagnan and M. Bonacieux is that
they both dont want to see a woman in trouble. In chapter 8 of the novel M.Bonacieux goes to D
artagnan for help and D artagnan agrees to help because they dont want to see a woman in trouble.
Even though they are both ambitious men , they had a soft spot for women and would never hurt a
lady. They both also are smart and crafty men who try to be clever in their dealings. M. Bonacieux

female protagonist. The contrast between the two of them and they way the thought about the world

Definition On Extracurricular Activities
Definition on Extracurricular Activities Extracurricular activities allow students to pursue interests

the students voluntary involvement that is situated at the external realm of the academic curriculum of
a school or in a university. These activities encourage students to permissively expose themselves with

but volunteer activities are not always extracurricular activities. Every activity is a students initiative
in order to help others such as feeding programs, tutorials, etc. On the other hand, extracurricular
activities are not only made for the purpose of allowing the students to do social outreach but for them
to interact with others and build public relationship that would help them along during their stay in the

Skepticism In Shakespeare s Othello

Dramatic Irony In Shakespeare s King Richard III
An unfavourable representation of the king and his court In the beginning of Act 2 Scene1 of
Shakespeare s King Richard III, everyone is in a room in King Edward s palace. Edward sent a letter
to pardon Clarence but it got intercepted by Richard. Which is why, Clarence has just been executed
but no one knows about it. This is the first and only scene that Edward will appear in. He is sick and
expects to die so he is trying to make peace between Queen Elizabeth, her son Dorset, her brother
Rivers, and Hastings, and Buckingham. He needs to ensure that his kingdom does not fall apart after
he passes away and that the power still stays with his family. To achieve this, Edward gets three of the
Woodvilles, Rivers, Queen Elizabeth, and Dorset, to swear an oath with Hastings. This passage paints
a very unflattering picture of the king and his court: an egoistic king, and two faced nobles, through
religious language and dramatic irony. Edward starts off the scene by congratulating himself with
work that he has not yet done when he comments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edward s character increases the irony because he is so full of himself. This causes him to believe that
he actually reconciled all the quarrelling nobles and brought peace among them. At the same time, the
nobles actions and words are also very misleading compared to what they are actually thinking. Later
it is proven that Edward s reconciliation failed when the Woodville family didn t claim the throne, but
instead Richard did, bringing chaos and starting the War of Bosworth. Edward tries to portray himself
as a powerful and religious king but his big ego prevents him from seeing how deceitful his court is.
Overall, this passage expresses how the appearance of characters is not actually

Spov Report Paper
Board of Visitor Members,
Since the September 14 BOV Report, the Student Government Association (SGA) has been hard at
work assessing and representing the concerns of the student body. SGA members have attended events
such as the Student Activities and Engagement Open House, UMW s Campus Roundtable Discussion
with Governor McAuliffe s Civic Engagement Task Force, the Town and Gown Committee Meetings,
and the UMW Young Alumni Council Meetings.
As mentioned in the September 14 SGA BOV Report, a main priority I have set for the Executive
Cabinet for the 2017 2018 year is to review and update the Student Government Association
Constitution. The current constitution was last revised on January 26, 2010. It is important to make

The task force will meet from October till the end of the Fall semester. The outcome of the task force
will result in a report that will elaborate on their recommendations. Currently, the task force is
conducting focus groups of Executive Cabinet and of student body members on the proposed changes.
The task force will present their recommendations to Student Senate at the beginning of the Spring
2018 semester. I have copied a brief progress report from the task force chairperson, Matthew Good,
below:
The SGA worked with Director of Student Activities Engagement, Ethan Feuer, to discuss adding all
undergraduate students to the SGA portal on MyUMW. We have successfully added all current
undergraduate students SGA portal on MyUMW. From this point onward, SAE will work with the
SGA to add all the current undergraduate students to the portal each semester to keep membership
accurate.
Using our new communication abilities on the SGA Portal through MyUMW, the SGA was able to
conduct a survey to students regarding President Paino s draft of An Investment of Hope for the
Future: A Strategic Vision for the University of Mary Washington. We received a total of 86
submissions that contained feedback about the proposed vision. Overall, the feedback about the main
goals was positive. I have attached a formal report about the survey at the

Las Vegas Movie Analysis
Before watching this movie, I thought Las Vegas is a place that shapes many people s life and decides
their destinies. And the only determine factor of winning money is luck. For example, when two
people bring the same amount of money to Las Vegas, one of them may become a millionaire and
another person may lose everything during one night. However, after watching this movie, my
impression to statistics has totally changed. It seems that people can use statistics to help gain the
greatest advantages in many circumstances. Also, I saw the dark side in human nature. Teacher
Mickey is a main character in the movie. He is a greedy, ambitious person who uses his students to
earn money. Obviously, he is not a qualified teacher. Therefore, I think society should pay more
attention to select teacher, because teacher can directly influence the next generation.
In this movie, the main character Ben is a college student who is good at math. He receives Harford
Medical School s offer, however, he doesn t have enough money to pay the tuition. At this time, his
calculus professor notices his talent on calculating. Then the professor invites him to become a
member of a math group and uses his talent to earn money in Las Vegas. The professor finds that Ben
has a gifted brain is because he successfully solves a famous statistic question which is Monty Hall
problem . In this problem, one person is on a TV show. The anchorman asks him to choose one gate
from within three gates. One of the

What Is The Theme Of Midnight Dreary
Poe s Gothic work exceled at portraying its theme, death, and the effect it has on the living. Poe
employs the use of symbols to depict and impersonate the meaning he is instilling of his readers. He
leads us into exploring the speaker s journey of emotions and self obscurity. Poe transports his readers
immediately to the scene with his use of imagery, midnight dreary (Line 1), bleak December (Line 7).
Establishing a very cold, gloomy and dark setting, one that the speaker connects directly to since he is
full with sorrow (Line 9).
In the first stanza, a speaker who is feeling weak and weary (Line 1) is introduced. Over many a

the Raven makes sure of this. The bird s refrain drove the speaker crazy. Lenore nevermore will be

Argumentative Essay On White Privilege
White Privilege? While in history there has been social and cultural segregation where people who
have white privilege are given more of an advantage, but I do not believe that still holds true to this
day. I am not going to deny that in the past people who were white did have more privilege then those
who were of color. Although, I strongly disagree with white privilege being as prominent as some
would like to believe. In our class discussion, it was mentioned how whites still have privilege over
people who are colored. To an extent and through some aspects, whites may have have advantage.
However, if people were to examine privilege closer it would see that colored people are more
privileged then they would like to believe. Looking at University of Northern Colorado itself, it can be
seen that there are many students who have mixed racial background. However, merely because of
their race background they are given benefits that I would not because I am white. It took me aback
when I saw that there is a sorority and fraternity on this campus that was only for people who are
historically black. Now if they were to have a white sorority or fraternity on this campus too, they
would be considered to be racists for not allowing people of color to join in their group. However, for
some reason it is perfectly alright to have a black sorority and fraternity. Furthermore, when looking at
scholarships, it can be seen that people can get scholarships for their race. I had a peer from my high
school who was roughly the same student as I am myself, receive a scholarship just because she is a
Mexican girl. Due to the fact that I am not Mexican, I do not get a two thousand dollar scholarship for
being a white girl. A friend of mine who goes to University of Montana had a roommate Freshman
year who was on a full ride scholarship because she was partially Native American. She did not care
for her studies, did not attend to her classes or do the course work. In the end, she failed the majority
of her classes. However, the school still gave her a full ride the following year because of her race.
Being a student who cares about my education, I am disgusted that they will fund her to attend college

Example Of Personal Narrative Essay
Croatia. Summer 2015. I am sitting in the back of a stranger s car on the way to a cemetery. A small
girl in a yellow tutu reaches into her white sparkly purse on the seat between us and pulls out a

Narrative Essay On Battle Ground
Breaking 7:00 On the Mile
I sat in the front seat of our van with a nervous feeling. I was going to run the 1600 at the second
Battle Ground middle school track meet. Exactly a week before I had run the mile 2 times in one day.
The first time was on the Amboy track with the big hill. I got a 7:53, breaking my record by 11
seconds for the Amboy track. The second time was at the first Battle Ground middle school track
meet. I got a 7:15, breaking my record of 7:33. I was all sore from running the mile earlier in the day.
So my goal this time was to break seven minutes
.
I looked at my watch. It was 4:45. Do you have a schedule for each event? asked my mom.
Yes, I replied, and pulled out the sheet. I was starting the race at 5:15.

Hopefully he doesn t pass me back up. I started to get a little tired, but at the same time started to go a
little faster. I passed another kid as I ran around the second bend on the track. I ran past the place
where they did the high jump.
Come on Kelvin, my cousin shouted. He was from Tukes and was running in the meet to. I ran past
the stands entering my third lap. 1 lap, wait, 2 laps. I started picking up speed. I looked behind me
curly brown kid was about 15 meters behind me. I slowed down a little as I rounded the second curve.
Let s go Kelvin! my mom shouted from the bleachers. I was getting tired. I breathed a little harder as I
ran.
Only 1 lap, I thought as I crossed the line. I started moving faster. I could feel the little rubber bits on
the track as I ran along. I ran around the last curve of the race.
Come on Kelvin! shouted my mom from where she was sitting. But I couldn t sprint, all I could do
was run. I crossed the line for the last time. Another person from the high school track handed me a
little paper with a 9. I had got 9th place. I was so tired that I dropped the piece of paper, I leaned over
and got it. I handed the paper to a person with a clipboard and made my way up to my mom.
She was smiling. What did I get? I asked.

Moving To Another Country Essay
Have you ever thought about moving your whole family to another country? If you did so, what are
the reasons to do that? We chose to move because in our country they have crisis, they are too poor,
they have worse education and a lot of reasons that we cannot tell. After moving to another country,
we might see a lot of differences between our old country and the new country. I and my family
moved from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to Minnesota because we believe that I and my brother will
have better education, better chance for a bright future. Since we moved here, I have seen a lot of
differences between two of them and the most significant differences are the university life, the size
and the weather.
First is the university life. In Minnesota we can pick any subject that we feel interested in and have a
lot of activities to do with the university community. We also spend less time at school and more time
at home for homework, chores and family responsibilities. In Minnesota, the college and university
help us a lot preparing for our future, and the tuition fees are paid thanks to the Financial Aid for
citizens. But Ho Chi Minh City on the contrary, there, we do not have choices for our subjects, we
have to pick our major as soon as we roll up for an university or a college and then we have to study
the subjects they gave us without any choice. In Ho Chi Minh City, we also have to spend a lot of time
at school for almost entire day, five to six days a week and we only have

A Research On The Kansas State University Housing
Intro As I graduated high school, I always had the desire to up my career. So, my next step is to go to
college. A week later, I started to think how am I going to live on my own? Where will I stay at, for
my existing 4 years or maybe years? So, I did my research on the Kansas State University housing
homepage. As I am looking through my options, I was interested in the Kramer complex s. My mom
told me is it safe, healthy, and in good living conditions to live there? When I kept scrolling down it
showed how it will have safety and good health conditions throughout the complex. According to the
Kansas State University housing and dining home page, 020 Forming a Committee, Every College
must have an active safety committee. This must be a goal of each Dean. If the Dean desires,
departments within a College may also have safety committees. The University Environmental Health
Safety Committee recommends that large departments or departments with high hazards have a safety
committee. . By me reading this, I had very high expectations for having very healthy environment
within the housing departments. When I made a decision to choose as students Kansas State students
feels weird and uncomfortable living away from home and have no choice to live on campus, students

Persuasive Essay On Forest Fires
Forest fires are not uncommon in the west coast but rising temperatures and global climate change
have been leading to drier and drier seasons in many areas, making wildfires a growing concern. The
west coast has both the largest number of wildfires as well as the most severe, starting from 100 acres
and above (Donegan, 2016). Southern California is a frequent location for wildfires each year due to
its dry weather and hot temperatures during the summer, and the Santa Clarita region alone has had a
20% reduction in soil moisture. The effects of the reduction of soil moisture has led to concerning
forest fire events such as the Sand Fire in 2016 and also the invasion of Pine Bark Beetles. Events like
these can be incredibly dangerous to both nature and to the human population. Although difficult to
prevent because forest fires can happen naturally when temperatures rise, especially during summers,
there are still many strategies people can follow in order to prevent fires in local forests (Wildland
Fire, n.d.). We will also explore some benefits wildfires can bring to the ecosystem.
General Info
Wildfires can originate from a match, a cigarette bud, or a campfire and can have devastating effects
on the surrounding wildlife and human population as well. About 90% of wildfires are the cause of
human error (Wildland Fire, n.d.). Wind, temperature, and humidity can have a large effect on how
long a forest fire lasts, the direction, and how intense it can become (Wildland Fire,

  • 2. Unbroken Track star Gail Devers once said, Sometimes we fall, sometimes we stumble, but we can t stay down. We can t allow life to beat us down. Everything happens for a reason, and it builds character in us, and it tells us what we are about and how strong we really are when we didn t think we could be that strong. In the nonfiction book Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand, the determined Louis Zamperini showed that life could not beat him down, and never gave up, not even in the light of the impossible. Louie s strong minded determination continues to be a factor in his survival until the very end. Before he was introduced to running, Louie was somewhat of a heathen. He was a thief and refused to be controlled: If it was edible, Louie stole it (6). Knowing that food was so easy to take, Louie indeed took it. When he heard that some keys fit more than one lock, he tried over and over until his key fit into the gym of the school. He became naturally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Bird, whose overall goal was to break Louie, could not even dent the surface: The Bird continued to beat him, every day. As his attacker struck him, Louie bore it with clenched fists and eyes blazing (258). He was knocked down repeatedly; however, Louie could not be broken. Louie s resilience as a POW was his key to entering the house of survival: He felt his consciousness slipping, his mind losing adhesion, until all he knew was a single thought: He cannot break me (302). All of the mind strengthening conversations and on the raft proved useful throughout his experience as a POW, and Louie s hopeful attitude lived on. Although his body was shattered, his will remained strong and the ultimate survival cake was made with the perfect combination of resilient, unbroken ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Salinger, Holden Caulfield is a 17 year old junior who is expelled from Pencey Prep because of academic failure. He then decides to travel around New York taking it easy before returning home to face his parents. Holden has experienced a lot, the death of his younger brother, Allie who he idolizes. As the novel progresses the reader can sense that Holden is a strange boy, from his constant lies to his peculiar views on things. A major symbol mentioned throughout the novel is Holden s red hunting hat which represents his uniqueness and individuality. In the beginning of the novel Holden is in New York. Holden is the manager of his school s fencing team, the team was supposed to have a game in but he forgot the foils in a subway station. After they get off the subway, a red hunting hat in the window of a sports shop catches Holden s attention and he ends up buying it for a buck. I put on this hat that I d bought in New York that morning, it was a red hunting hat, with one of those very, very long peaks. (pg. 17) Even though Holden is aware that the hat is a hunting hat, he doesn t wear it to hunt. He wears it just because he likes how it looks, symbolizing the rebellious side of Holden. Near the end Holden is meeting up with Phoebe, Holden plans on hitch hiking out west that afternoon and wants to return her Christmas money back to her as well as to say goodbye. • 5. Rape In War As time and history have progressed, the institution of media has captured and held control over the public ideology. In this modern capitalistic age, the power held over the media as developed and been re directed. The media acts as the key distributor and translator of the ideology within our society throughout history and in the present day. However, the context in which we communicate is changing, and with this, the relationship and interaction between politics, media and public life have altered (Blair, T 2007). Changed to an extent where the information being relayed may indeed be harmful to society, in the absence of objective, complete and accurate relaying of information (Blair, T 2007). Though the free society that we operate in does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rape in wartime is as old as war itself and is considered an expected outcome of such violent conflict (Bracewell 2000). The sexual invasion of a woman s body is the ultimate act in emasculating her husband and eliciting turmoil in the community (Boose 2002, pp. 73) as it undermines the warrior and displays his inability to protect his territory , particularly if performed in front of him. This performance of terrorisation and humiliation was particularly prevalent in the Red Army s invasion of Germany in World War Two, where the degradation ceremony would only occur in the presence of witnesses (Johnson 2002). Not only this but the widespread rape of a nation s women is an attack on the symbolic ideology of a nation (Gottschall J, 2004). A nation s women embody its core values and are seen a beacons of purity and thus are marked as an enemy target, a territory to be to be conquered (Mostov 1995). Its effects are akin to bombings, gassing and other genocidal acts, which has allowed for the evolution of wartime rape into a key, systematic weapon of war, particularly in regards to its long term consequences. The methodical rape of Tutsi women during the Rwanda Genocide was implemented with the strategic intent to infect victims with HIV (Nduwimana 2004). This genocidal act was deliberately enacted to deliver harm that is worse death, to heighten the suffering and destruction of communities and humiliation of men. Villages were forced to watch some if not all of their women fall prey to the disease, an on going reminder of the times of war and the nightmarish acts that transpired (Nduwimana 2004). Rape in times of violence is indeed a historical phenomenon based upon the expression of power and dominance. It has occurred persistently in human civilisation, regardless of location, ... • 8. Solving The Workplace After Conflict Management Training Abstract Conflict is an unavoidable part of life and health care is not excluded. The manner in which conflict is resolved has a major impact in the workplace, be it favorable or unfavorable. Conflict can arise at many professional levels in health care from the nursing staff to the physician. Conflict also comes in many forms within the health care system. Stress, personal differences, scarce resources and staffing, and also burnout can lead to conflict in health care (Pavlakis, Kaitelidou, Theodorou, Galanis, Sourtzi Siskou, 2011). Managers must be properly trained to identify the source of conflict at its origin and utilize proper problem solving techniques in order to obtain a positive outcome that every person can benefit from. This literature review examines the abilities of managers to resolve conflict in the workplace after conflict management training. Introduction There is conflict in every aspect of life, health care is not exempt. According to Durland s Medical Dictionary, conflict is a struggle arising from the clash of incompatible or imposing impulses, wishes, drives, or external demands (Saunders, 2007). Conflict can arise at many professional levels and can also come in many forms within the health care system. Conflict is often times seen as undesirable but the way in which conflict is handled can make it an opportunity to learn and build from or it can make it harmful to a department or facility. (0.5) In the catabolic pathways of glycolysis and the citric acid cycle, organic food molecules, are oxidized / reduced (circle one) to CO2. The H from these molecules ends up primarily on the coenzyme NADH. NADH is oxidized / reduced (circle one) compared to NAD+. Oxidation can be defined as a gain in oxygen or loss of hydrogen, loss in electrons, and therefore loss of potential energy. Reduction is gain of hydrogen, or gain in electrons, and gain of potential energy. The organic food molecules are OXIDIZED to CO2. This is the process of glycolysis and making energy. The carbon molecules gain oxygen and are oxidized, and release all that energy to generate ATP. NADH is the REDUCED from of NAD+, because of the gain in hydrogen, or gain in electrons. The energy from NADH powers the electron transport chain. Explain in detail what happens to the H+ and the e from the H by answering questions 2 10. 2. The Dangers Of Money And Greed In The Pardoners Tale The danger of money and greed was important in chaucer s time because it describes the character and what that character was like. For example The immoral Pardoner, who, in a sense, sells away his soul for the sake of his own avarice, puzzles many modern readers with his strange logic. Already having laid his considerable guilt upon the table, this corrupted agent of the Church attempts to pawn off his counterfeit relics for a generous price. Also in the Pardoner s tale the rioters show the dangers on money and greed because they live loose lives and spend time gambling and drinking in pubs, they are also disgusting and hateful. A brief summary of the Pardoner tale is The pardoner is a beautiful blonde haired man who is being loved by everyone. However he is very corrupted and smart and sells fake religious stuff to people saying very good compliment. On the other hand, the reeve is very serious and honest business man. He is very smart enough to know what criminals think and do. The pardoner story tells a great example of the seven deadly sins and reeve s story is mocking of the miller. The rioters make his own plan to buy poison and kill his friends, and at the end the youngest got stabbed and killed by the other two,to celebrate the two drank wine which was poisoned by the young rioter, thus they all died. The moral of this story is that greed can lead to death. They do not have the citizenship of the country, or they might have come in as illegal refugees. Residents in another nation with visas but they have passed they due date or has expired without having obtained the citizenship of the particular nation are also viewed as irregular migrants in that particular country. Liberal democratic countries, on the other hand, are those that are not lead under a dictatorship. Progressive countries allow free and fair election to multi parties. In most case, progressive governments also give certain privileges to their citizens such as freedom for adults above the age of 18years to vote and freedom of employment. They also provide free public education to its citizens and access to healthcare services in public hospitals. • 13. Community Policing Era Paper Policing in the United States has evolved throughout history. The best way to understand it is by becoming familiar with its history. There have been three policing eras in the United States and they were the Political Era, the Reform Era, and the Community Policing Era. The Community Policing Era is the form that is presently used in the United States. Approximately 350 years ago, the first law enforcement system was started in Boston. These were the early days of American law enforcement. When the colonist settled there in 1630 they appointed constables. Constables were like a sheriff and in 1631 they appointed watchman an a few volunteers. They made sure that the streets were safe, reported fires and apprehended and arrested anyone violating the law. The early policing era was based off the English structure. The early police system was reactionary and they only responded when a request was made by a victim or witness. In the last half of the nineteenth century, the Sheriff used the concept of Posse ... The crowd cheers, as the singer struts onstage with his guitar and starts to wave a tale with music as he sings along to his strumming guitar. This is early rock n roll. In this paper I will first tell you about the history of early rock and roll. Then I will tell you about the famous composers of this music style and the way it has impacted our society, in the past and present. Rock and roll is nicknamed American music. This style of music arrived in the hearts of composers in the mid 1950 s. It is speculated that the first early rock and roll song was Jimmy Preston s Rock this joint . Rock and roll was combined with many styles of music to make it what we hear of today, and some of those styles are boogie woogie, the rhythms of R B, country, gospel and blues. It mostly just evolved from the 1950 s early rhythm and blues. The words rock and roll and concept of rock and roll was first used by Alan Freed, a Cleveland DJ, who used it when playing the song My Baby Rocks Me with a Steady Roll . This music ... The twist was one of the most popular dances, and it was one that most everyone used. Also, the crazy rock and roll artists had crazy clothes that affected the way people dressed in some cases. • 15. The Experience Of My Life In New York City My dad and I had always lived in New York City. After 15 years of experience and the guidance of my older brother, you could say that I knew my way around town. The coffee shops with the best lattes, the highest swinging swing sets in every park, and most importantly, the buildings with the best views. You would think that after living here for so long I would get sick of seeing the view of the city every day, but it just never gets old. The best spot is at the top of my apartment building, on the far northeast corner, looking over the horizon and onto the Hudson. There was no other way of completing my day, no matter the rain, snow, or blazing heat I sat on that rooftop every night as the sun disappeared, along with the overworked New Yorkers for the night. The most interesting part is, every single night, the color of the sky is always slightly different. No sunset was ever the exact same. Anyways, as I was walking back down the stairs to my condo, 7B, I got the jitters in my stomach, I was beyond excited for tomorrow, the first day of Winter Break. My older brother, Todd, was taking me and my best friend Hannah up to Vermont to go skiing. I opened our apartment door, took a quick shower, and fell asleep with Cooper on my lap while watching Full House. I woke up with dried drool on my left cheek, and I heard the sound of my dad making his daily smoothie. I got ready as fast as I could, because I was late, as always. The contrast between the two of them and they way the thought about the world was very intriguing and it only made me want more of what was going on. She takes their pain and suffering away by making it her own and giving them some of her happiness. I also thought reading from her point of view was sort of special. A lot of the time in Young Adult books, we have a female heroine who is inherently a Mary Sue , but Gwen was different. She had to be good, pure, and kind simply because of what she was. Dramatic Irony In Shakespeare s King Richard III An unfavourable representation of the king and his court In the beginning of Act 2 Scene1 of Shakespeare s King Richard III, everyone is in a room in King Edward s palace. Edward sent a letter to pardon Clarence but it got intercepted by Richard. Which is why, Clarence has just been executed but no one knows about it. This is the first and only scene that Edward will appear in. He is sick and expects to die so he is trying to make peace between Queen Elizabeth, her son Dorset, her brother Rivers, and Hastings, and Buckingham. He needs to ensure that his kingdom does not fall apart after he passes away and that the power still stays with his family. To achieve this, Edward gets three of the Woodvilles, Rivers, Queen Elizabeth, and Dorset, to swear an oath with Hastings. While in history there has been social and cultural segregation where people who have white privilege are given more of an advantage, but I do not believe that still holds true to this day. I am not going to deny that in the past people who were white did have more privilege then those who were of color. Although, I strongly disagree with white privilege being as prominent as some would like to believe. In our class discussion, it was mentioned how whites still have privilege over people who are colored. To an extent and through some aspects, whites may have have advantage. However, if people were to examine privilege closer it would see that colored people are more privileged then they would like to believe. Looking at University of Northern Colorado itself, it can be seen that there are many students who have mixed racial background. However, merely because of their race background they are given benefits that I would not because I am white. It took me aback when I saw that there is a sorority and fraternity on this campus that was only for people who are historically black. Now if they were to have a white sorority or fraternity on this campus too, they would be considered to be racists for not allowing people of color to join in their group. However, for some reason it is perfectly alright to have a black sorority and fraternity. Furthermore, when looking at scholarships, it can be seen that people can get scholarships for their race. • 33. Persuasive Essay On Forest Fires Forest fires are not uncommon in the west coast but rising temperatures and global climate change have been leading to drier and drier seasons in many areas, making wildfires a growing concern. The west coast has both the largest number of wildfires as well as the most severe, starting from 100 acres and above (Donegan, 2016). Southern California is a frequent location for wildfires each year due to its dry weather and hot temperatures during the summer, and the Santa Clarita region alone has had a 20% reduction in soil moisture. The effects of the reduction of soil moisture has led to concerning forest fire events such as the Sand Fire in 2016 and also the invasion of Pine Bark Beetles. Events like these can be incredibly dangerous to both nature and to the human population. Although difficult to prevent because forest fires can happen naturally when temperatures rise, especially during summers, there are still many strategies people can follow in order to prevent fires in local forests (Wildland Fire, n.d.). We will also explore some benefits wildfires can bring to the ecosystem. General Info Wildfires can originate from a match, a cigarette bud, or a campfire and can have devastating effects on the surrounding wildlife and human population as well.
