The Worker Next Door
Matt Clendening Eng 1301 6th 1/24/10 Klepper The Worker Next Door
In the essay The Worker Next Door written by Dr.Chris Chiswick, the author addresses the illegal
immigrant problem in America, and gives several questionable reasons how if the flow of illegal
immigrants were deterred, jobs would still be filled, and life would go on as usual, or even better.
Dr.Chiswick wrote a not too convincing essay, having many places where he could have improved or
even left out certain parts of his essay that would have made this writing better, and more realistic to
his audience. I spotted a couple areas where the author went on a tangent of barely related areas to
illegal immigration. Along with that, it doesn t really seem like he tried to ... Show more content on

things may at times, seem fairly irrelevant to the subject at hand? This is how i felt while reading The

Economic System Advantages And Disadvantages
Economic System
There are many economic system in the study of economy .Economy system is the structure of
production, distribution of economic input and output and consumption of goods and services in an
economy. There are 3 types of economic system which are planned economy system (command
economy), mixed economy system and free market system (market economy). Therefore , different
countries have different economy system.
The Mixed Economy System Of Malaysia
Mixed economy system is the centrally planned economy system combining free market economy
system. In simple words, mixed economy includes free enterprise and government control or some
form of direct intervention by government. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is another disadvantage as can be noticed in the international firms that maintain presence in the
country. This is because there is a need for competitiveness to be on a level ground if these firms are
to be profitable, but the note from all indication is that the chances of these firms to successes are
limited as a result of the limitation in their competitive capacity because the government has already
given the local firms a higher competitive advantage by imposing higher task on international brand,
and limiting the chances of these international brand to adopt price based competitive

Student Lo 7 Students Loan
7 student loan myths debunked
When it comes to student loans, there is a lot of information to take in especially for a new college
student who is exploring their financing options for the first time, or a new graduate who has just
started paying off their student loan debt. With all of the different information out there, it can be easy
to get confused, and perhaps even misunderstand certain things about student loans. The following are
some common student loan myths, debunked:
Myth #1: I m not worried about my student loan debt, because I can just have some or all of my debt
forgiven
Fact: It s not easy to qualify for student loan forgiveness. The criteria can be rather strict, and you
usually have to be working in a specific industry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You can usually get your payments adjusted and lowered based on your income, so if you haven t
exactly reached the salary you were hoping for post graduation, don t fret. You may also be able to
temporarily defer payments as well. However, you ll want to consider the disadvantage of not opting
for a standard repayment schedule. You are essentially lengthening your loan by delaying the
inevitable, which means you ll pay more interest in the end.
Myth #3: I can discharge my student loan debt through bankruptcy if I ever really need to
Fact: Not all debts can be discharged through bankruptcy, and typically, student loan debt falls into
that category. That doesn t mean it s impossible, but isn t as easy as discharging other types of debt,
and you may not be eligible. As such, it s important to not just assume that bankruptcy can be an
automatic solution for any student loan debt troubles.
Myth #4: I probably don t qualify for financial aid, so I should just take out student loans
Fact: Not necessarily. Many students qualify for some level of funding, and unlike student loans,
financial aid usually doesn t need to be paid back (there are some exceptions to this for example, if
you fail a class). It doesn t cost anything to just apply and see what you re eligible for. Even if you don
t receive enough financial aid to avoid student loans completely, every little bit helps, and that s less
you ll need to borrow.
Myth #5: I ll be required to borrow far more

Similarities Between Rome And Carthaginia
Rome Carthage were empires separated mainly by the mediterranean. Rome controlling the Italian
Peninsula while Carthage controlling the west of the Mediterranean. (Morey, 1901). Depending on
different periods; the two empires were similar or different in different ways. At the turn of the 3rd
century BCE, Carthage had a huge trading network compared to Rome, and it had colonies in Africa,
Sicily, etc, while Rome just controlled the Italian peninsula. During this period, the Romans had
ripped off the model for naval ships from the Carthaginians, so the Roman navy was just a joke to
none, while the Carthaginians had a huge navy. (Morey, 1901). However, while the Carthaginians
depended mostly on brilliant leaders, the Romans had a rather

Mouse Plagues In Australia
The first article chosen to review is Population dynamics of house mice in Queensland grain growing
areas, 2013, Wildlife Research, 40, 661 674 by Anthony Pople, Joe Scanlan, Peter Cremasco, and
Julianne Farrell . This article focuses on the population field mice in the Darling Downs. This region
of Australia is an extremely arable district in south eastern Queensland that has lost the majority of its
native vegetation cover to agriculture (Fensham and Fairfax, 1997). The theme of this ecological topic
demonstrates how a population of a species can increase due to the availability of food, and the
methods to reduce numbers via poison baiting.
The article aims to answer whether it is possible to predict mouse plagues in grain crops in
Queensland. Plagues of house mice begin to damage cereal crops immediately after sowing (Mutze
and Hubbard, 2000), which can cause stunting and reduced plant growth. Forecasting plagues will
allow the mice to be proactively controlled by poison baiting, resulting in higher crop yield. It is
hypothesized that a prediction of these plagues, followed by poison baiting, will result in much fewer
numbers of field mice left to consume crops. Relating back to the main question, this demonstrates ...

Since 1974, mice have been regularly trapped at sites within the Darling Downs, which shows the
population variation over time. Factors such as crop size and location, native forest clearing, rainfall,
and temperature have all contributed to the impact of mice numbers. Comparing these numbers with
other locations in Queensland will show a comparison of population fluctuations, which will enable a
prediction method to be created. This is an important study as it highlights the need to reduce mice
numbers to in turn decrease rodent inflicted yield loss, damage to buildings and machinery, health
risks, and rodent infested areas (Jacob et al.,

Cornstarch Essay
In the world today, many people enjoy the sensation of bath bombs for its relaxing feeling and
amazing aroma. Although people enjoy them, many people are allergic to citric acid which is a main
ingredient in bath bombs. The objective is to find alternatives to citric acid and to find the ingredient
that causes the bath bomb to fizz the most and the fastest. Cornstarch will be one of the alternatives to
citric acid. Cornstarch is a starch that comes from the white part of corn, and it is a white powder that
when left alone is a brittle solid. Cornstarch s molecular formula is C27H48O20. Cornstarch is a
polymer, and the chains that create it move by each either, but it does take time to do so. When it is
mixed with water, a certain appearance and feel is shown that is unique to cornstarch. The mixture of
cornstarch and water is called a suspension because two substances are being blended together. It is
most commonly used for its binding and thickening properties in the kitchen. In the 1700s, Isaac
Newton identified the properties of a liquid, and later called them Newtonian fluids. Ooze does not act

If the top of the mixture is just slightly tapped, it was cause it to feel hard due to the fact that this
motion is causing the cornstarch particles to come close together, and they are lining up with one
another. The tighter it is compressed, the harder it becomes, but once it is released, it then acts as a
liquid and drips over. It then feels like a liquid because the molecules then relax. The longer the
mixture is left, the cornstarch will begin to settle in the bottom of the bowl. All of this happens due to
the size, shape, and makeup of the cornstarch while pressure is being applied to it. By adding different
amounts of water, different outcomes can occur some of which include it being harder or more

The book that I read for my forth novel study is dirty little secrets. The book is about Lucy. Lucy and
her best friend Kaylie are at the movie theatre figuring which movie to watch and when they decided
to watch chick flick and there outside of the theatre they both josh and Steve. Lucy had a crush on josh
and Kaylie had crush on Josh s best friend Steve. After watching the movie with josh Lucy thought
that this is probably the best memory she had in her boring life. When Lucy got out of the theatre josh
stopped her and asked her if she can come to watch his band perform at a party. Lucy said that she will
try. Lucy heads home and thinks how she will even go to the party without an excuse so she came up

house what will they think about her and her life. So she thought that I will clean the house very hard
so there is not spot left dirty and she will have to keep the house freeze for her mum s dead body. Lucy
remembered when last time her mum got into an accident and had to go to the hospital for days and
her aunt came over and Lucy and jean her aunt thought that maybe Lucy s mum will be happy to see
their house clean so they both cleaned it and when Lucy s mum came home she freaked out and it only
took her six months to destroy the house for forever and never cleaned it and plus she kicked aunt jean
out too. Some chapters tell a little more details about Lucy s mum. Lucy remembered that on

The books of the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John; where written over 2000 years ago. These
books excluding the Gospel of John are often called the synoptic Gospels. The term synoptic is
derived from the Greek word meaning seeing together. These three books are comparable in their

well. For example, the account of the healing of the leaper occurs in all three books and the ... Show

The common belief among source critics is that, the Gospel of Mark is the oldest and Matthew and
Luke used his gospel along with an unknown source to write their Gospels. Evidence supporting this
view make the makes four points. First, the Luke s Gospel is contains approximately half of Mark s
information and Matthew s Gospel encompasses almost all of Mark s views. Second, Mark s words
are used verbatium Matthew and Luke. Third, Matthew and Luke follow the same sequence of events
as Mark. Finally, Matthew and Luke sometimes reword Mark s uncomfortable passages of scripture to
allow smooth transitions and ease of understanding.[5] Markan Priority The Markan Priority is the
belief that Mark was the first to write his account then Matthew and Luke used his recordings along
with an unknown source to write their accounts. Although it is said that Matthew and Luke used Mark
s account and another unknown source to write their versions of the gospel, it is also believed that
Mark used some unknown source to supplement his gospel as well.[6] Weaknesses in the Markan
Priority To accept the Markan Priority one must first denounce the word of Jesus, that the Holy Spirit
would bring all things back to their remembrance ; the testimonies of the early church leaders and
historical facts. Also, if Matthew and Luke were present at the same time that Mark was present, why
would they need to use Mark s account?[7] Some authors believe that

Neuroscientist Research
Neuroscientists are continually unraveling new ideas about the brain that is seems like we have known
its function for almost forever. This is in fact not the case. For the majority of history, scientists and
physicians thought the brain was simple made up of mucus. During the renaissance, those studying the
human anatomy believed the brain to be almost entirely not there. Rather it was the result of animal
spirits that commanded our cognitive reasoning.
Luckily thanks to advances in technology and imaging understanding the anatomy of the brain have
been made possible. Not only are they able to understand the significance of the structure of the brain
but this research allows neuroscientists to detect flaws in its functioning. They are now

Aristotle s theory of the Tragic Hero
Aristotle s theory of the Tragic Hero:
A man doesn t become a hero until he can see the root of his own downfall
Tragic hero s who fit under Aristotle s depiction are known as Aristotelian Tragic Hero s and possess
five specific characteristics;
1) A flaw or error of judgment (also known as hamartia which is a fatal flaw leading to the downfall of
a tragic hero or heroine)
2) A reversal of fortune due to the error of judgment (also known as peripeteia , which is a sudden
reversal of fortune or change in circumstances)
3) The discovery or recognition that the reversal was brought about by the hero s own actions
(Referred to as anagnorisis , which is a moment in a play when a character makes a critical discovery)
4) Excessive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A good plot progresses like a knot that is tied up with increasingly greater complexity until the
moment of peripeteia, at which point the knot is gradually untied until it reaches a completely
unknotted conclusion.
For a tragedy to arouse pity and fear, we must observe a hero who is relatively noble going from
happiness to misery as a result of error on the part of the hero. Our pity and fear is aroused most when
it is family members who harm one another rather than enemies or strangers. In the best kind of plot,
one character narrowly avoids killing a family member unwittingly thanks to an anagnorisis that
reveals the family connection. The hero must have good qualities appropriate to his or her station and
should be portrayed realistically and consistently. Since both the character of the hero and the plot
must have logical consistency, Aristotle concludes that the untying of the plot must follow as a
necessary consequence of the plot and not from stage artifice, like a deus ex machina (a machine used
in some plays, in which an actor playing one of the gods was lowered onto the stage at the end).
Aristotle discusses thought and diction and then moves on to address epic poetry. Whereas tragedy
consists of actions presented in a dramatic form, epic poetry consists of verse presented in a narrative
form. Tragedy and epic poetry have many common qualities, most notably the unity of plot and
similar subject matter. However, epic poetry can be longer than

Euthyphro
Main question of the Dialogue
The main question of this dialogue is the definition of the word holy or piety. Euthyphro brags that he
is more knowledgeable than his father on matters relating to religion. In this case, Socrates suggests to
Euthyphro to define that term. The first definition fails to satisfy Socrates because of its limitation in
application. Apparently, Socrates perceives this definition as an example rather than a definition.
Subsequent arguments and line of questioning lead to five sets of definitions that are refined to find
the general definition. Socrates expects that the acceptable general definition of the question will act
as a reference point in his defense.
Problems with Euthyphro s initial definition
According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, the argument would imply that the justification is both holy and unholy, which is
rationally impractical.
What Socrates uses to Combat Euthyphro s Conceptions of holiness
At the core of Socrates argument is the need to break down the definition of holiness into smaller
coherent characteristics. Socrates uses a series of question that are consistent with Euthyphro s
argument to ensure that he [Euthyphro] offers a consistent flow of definitions of the word holy.
Euthyphro accepts these ideas because he offers different definitions that are in line with the clarified
ideations. Socrates uses basic philosophical question What is holy? , which leads to a myriad of
definitions with different characteristics. Euthyphro sums up all these characteristics in the final
definition.
Euthyphro s problem is that he is trying to show his prowess among social and philosophical elite by
proving his father to be impious. His ego coupled with his father s flattery obscures Euthyphro from
developing concrete definitions.
Deeper (Philosophical) Point of Justice
Socrates point on justice is that everything that is termed just ought to be entirely holy. On the other
hand, not everything that is deemed holy is just. However, the term just is used interchangeably with
the term morally good. I think Socrates point is to find enough proof to support any premise beyond
reasonable doubt.

Medical errors are among the five most common causes of death in the United States, among them
cardiovascular, cancer, stroke and lung disease. According to scientists, the number of deaths of
Americans as a result of medical errors exceeds the number of deaths caused by breast cancer, car
accidents or AIDS. Checking the quality of care insurance company organized for the benefit of the
patient, and as a result hospitals financially punishes not only technical, but also for medical errors
(Ulene, 2008).
Implementation of the system to contain costs for voluntary health insurance does not mean that
reduce the amount of services provided to patients by insurance. Efforts are aimed at optimizing the
examination and treatment. For example, in our surgical hospital, through the use of advanced surgical
techniques, digital mobile X ray, the patient with a hip fracture can be discharged on day 2, and
consequently reduces the cost per bed day payments.
Urgently needed is the harmonization of standards of examination and treatment. Indeed, insurance
companies fear that in the epoch of private medicine, clinics tend to provide the best possible service
and therefore resort to a system matching each service provided by the insurer. It should be noted that
at present all serious, major insurance companies

Chemistry Concepts That Are Present During The Process Of...
Introduction
Rust, also known as iron (II) oxide, occurs when iron is exposed to oxygen and moisture for a long
period of time. This reaction is called oxidation. Oxidation can occur on old cars, iron, exhaust and
even the burning of fossil fuels. When wood, natural gas, or coal burns, the oxygen in the air
combines with the carbon and hydrogen in the fuel to produce water and the oxides of carbon.
(Prentice Hall Chemistry The Study of Matter p.599.) Rust may seem like an average everyday
phenomenon, however many things we cannot see take place as the rust begins to form. Many
everyday exposures such as water or hot temperature can cause rust to form. The purpose of this paper
is to relate chemistry concepts that are present during the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite its destructive characteristics it can be stopped by acids or bases that will dissolve the rust off,
but if you leave any bare iron outside exposed to heat and water rust will occur without doubt. After
the rusting process has occurred iron can either lose its magnetic ability or weaken it. ( Rate of Rust
Formation , van.physics.illinois)
SC2 Molar mass of Rust and indicators of chemical properties.
The molar mass of rust is 159.69 g*mol−1 . The chemical formula is Fe2O3. Chemical properties in
rust are indicated by the change of color, smell, and production of a solid. Rust as a solid can appear
on many household items such as cars, bikes, and tools. Basically, anything left outside can get rained
on, and the rain will leave the item wet, and overtime rust will appear. Rust has a brown red orange
color. Rust has a smell similar to blood. 4Fe+3O2+6H20 → 4Fe(OH)3 is the formula for the rusting of
iron. So basically, do not leave items that you care for outside where they can get rained on because
the rust will ruin it.

played around with a few ideas, and even started to film one. The day that the group met to film the
prototype idea, I was not present. The idea didn t work, so we ended up scrapping it and choosing a

In the original play, both Desdemona and Emilia don t do much compared to Othello and Iago, but
since the majority of the characters in our film are female, the power struggle between genders isn t as
apparent. Because of this, however, females are given more opportunities to have a say in the action.
In Othello, Othello is the only black character, but in our film the only important white character is
Deborah. Though unintentional, it shows how Deborah cannot do anything, even though she is the
privileged race. Even though Deb only talks to Iris a few times, she seems to genuinely trusted her,
which shows the general consensus on Iris personality as well as reinforcing Deb s feminine and
simple personality. As mentioned above, our new setting was in a college, and we used TU s campus
to film. Though none of the people in our group are in college, we ve heard all the rumors. The drama!
The backstabbing! The secrets! It was the perfect place to host a remake of a Shakespeare play, and
having a theatre club was just a bonus. The modern setting of our film contrasts nicely with the olden
war time of Othello while still retaining many of the same ideas and concepts. I ve already mentioned
why we chose a college setting, but another reason why it works well is because it fits the characters.
Though technically adults, they overreact to small provocations, and

The Aircraft Manufacturing Industry During World War II
During World War II, the aircraft manufacturing industry took off. According to Dr. Bright (1978), by
the year 1944 it was the largest industry in America (p. 1). It soon declined in the years following due
to material flaws, lack in engine performance, and production manufacturing methods. One
contributing factor was metal fatigue, this occurs when metal parts that undergo many repeated strains
eventually fail at a loading far below their original ultimate strength , Garrison (2005) (p. 1).
Manufacturers at the time primarily used aluminum and steel, because of their overall strength and
how readily they were available. What engineers did not consider was the abuse the airframes would
take over time. This factor went overlooked, resulting in numerous crashes with fatalities. Although
cheaper to manufacture, piston type airplane engines require more maintenance than that of their jet
engine counterparts. In fact, a jet engine can go for 3,000 hours while an overhaul for a piston aircraft
is generally 2,000 hours , Piston Engine (2011). This source goes on to compare the average top speed
of a piston engine driven aircraft which is usually around 200 KIAS. This is relatively slow when
compared to the average jet engine that can reach 300 KIAS.
The manufacturing industry took a big hit after the war, Bugos (2001) found that total sales by
American aircraft firms were $16 billion in 1944; by 1947 they were only $1.2 billion, . However,
finances weren t the only

In Belize, mangroves estimate up to 3.4% of the land area, about 296 square miles (CITE). Mangroves
serve important ecological service such as erosion control, filter, and clean, while also providing
shelter to many marine organisms like lemon sharks, invertebrates, shrimp, and manatees. There is a
lot of biodiversity in mangroves and due to the clearance for urban and rural development, many of
these organisms are losing their homes (Patterson). Belize s coastal areas are usually sea grass beds.
Sea grass destruction strip away habitats from numerous lobster, conch, fish, turtles, and manatees
(CITE). Sea grass is the manatee s main food source and destruction of these beds limits their grazing
and range. Watercraft traffic in these shallow areas is also another reason of harming the sea grass
beds.
Watercrafts are a huge threat for manatees by of degradation of sea grass beds. Watercrafts are also
dangerous in the sense that their propellers strike the manatees which is one of the causes of their
deaths. Many manatee accidents have been reported due to watercraft collision in Belize, and in the
state of Florida. In 2003, the Florida Fish Wildlife Conservation Commission showed a report that a
total of 305 manatees were killed due to watercrafts. This also depends on the speed of the watercraft
that is travelling. If it is travelling at a higher speed, it can damage the manatee tremendously or even
kill it. Scientists in Florida s Marine Mammal

Maui Snares The Sun Analysis
By reading the Polynesian myth Maui Snares the Sun and the Japanese myth Amaterasu and Susanoo
it is cleared that both cultures feared the absences of the sun. In the Japanese myth Amaterasu and
Susanoo, Amaterasu is the powerful sun goddess; she was unwilling to admit defeat in a competition
against her brother Susanoo causing him to enrage. Susanoo wreaked havoc throughout heaven
causing Amaterasu to flee into a cave causing inflicting darkness although the universe. In the other
hand, the Polynesian myth Maui Snares the Sun; Maui embarks in a quest to slow the sun so his
mother s crops could grow and she could finish her work. Similarly, in both myths the sun declines to
cooperate with Earth, Amaterasu refuses to come out of the cave causing

My Career As An Information Technology Professional
My career as an Information Technology professional has spanned 25 years at two companies (three
years at the first, and the rest with my current employer). In those 25 years, I have reported to many
people. They have all formally held the title of Manager, but very few of them have been worthy of
being called a Leader. By definition, a leader provides leadership. But then leadership itself, I suppose,
is open for interpretation. Some would say a leader is one who simply gives orders and then verifies
those orders have been completed. Others would say a leader is akin to the Oracle, sitting on their
mountain, waiting for their followers to come and ask for pearls of wisdom, which are then handed out
only to the worthy. I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Colonel demands new socks and shoes for his men and threatens to contact the War Department
to report the lack of support from the Quartermaster. He emerges victorious, and his men are provided
for. His decisive action makes his men more effective soldiers, raises their morale, and demonstrates
that their leader is there for them. Lastly, Colonel Shaw makes sure his men have the proper training
needed to do their jobs. During rifle practice, Shaw observed one of his soldiers hitting every target
dead on, but at a relaxed pace. He commands the soldier to reload and shoot faster, even putting the
soldier under stress by firing a pistol close to his head while he s reloading. When questioned as to
why he was being so hard on the soldier, Shaw stated that he was preparing him for battle: It s my job
to get these men ready, and I will. And he does. Time after time, Colonel Shaw fights on behalf of his
men. He observes, seeks counsel, is decisive, and takes bold risks in doing what is right and rejecting
what is expedient. These are qualities which speak to his strength of character and elevate him beyond
his rank or responsibility in the eyes of those he commands. He does not manage or direct ... he leads.
And it is these same qualities that I have observed and experienced in those who have not only been
my manager, but also a leader. Competencies where I believe I have strengths

Descriptive Essay On Football
We were on the bus on September 9, 2017, in Brecksville, Ohio. As the bus was pulling up to the
stadium it was dead on the bus as we were all focusing in on one of the hardest games of the season.
As we were getting off the bus we felt the intense heat of the sun beating down on our bodies and the
sweat was slowly foaming on our faces. During warm up we were all being very serious and not
messing around, trying to prepare for the game we were about to play. As the time of the warm up was
slowly coming to an end we already had sweat dripping down our damp faces. As we gathered in the
huddle we all had a very serious look on our face all looking at each other and our coach waiting
patiently to see what he had to say before the game started. Before we went on the field our coach
said, All of the hard work, practice, and dedication isn t for nothing it s so we can come out here play
our best and leave this field with another win. Then we all huddled up and said as a team Tigers on
three, 1...2...3 TIGERS Then we slowly ran onto the field as both fans were cheering for their team. As
we were on the field in our formation it was dead silent, so quiet you could hear your own heart
beating faster and faster as the referee was getting ready to blow the whistle to indicate the start of the
game. During the first 5 minutes of the game it was nonstop running with sweat running down your
face due to the rough heat. After the first 10 minutes we were already really tired

Summary Of The Article Black Philly After The...
In the empirical article, Black Philly after the Philadelphia Negro, Marcus Anthony Hunter examines
the once populated Seventh Ward and the effects that political neglect and racial barriers had on this
primarily black area, which ultimately led to its urban decay. Similarly, in recent years, we see this
occurring in Vesterbro, Copenhagen. However, we notice how the neglect towards Vesterbro stems
from other factors such as immigration, crime, and a poor economy. Hunter examined the archives of
the Seventh Ward, specifically after W.E.B. Du Bois initial study of the Seventh Ward. From the 1920s
through the 1940s, Hunter found that the poor living conditions did not improve. Instead, they were
constant, suggesting that Republican politicians neglected this black area. This period also offers a
historical window into the shifting allegiances of black Americans, and their retreat from the
Republican Party and embrace of the Democratic Party (Hunter). Hunter claimed that the shift in ...

All told, seven people were killed, and more than two dozen were injured (Hunter). This is very
unfortunate because it took a tragedy for politicians to stop blaming the negro population; however,
politicians did not take the blame. Policians portrayed an image of understanding and action when in
reality it was a little too late; their neglect resulted in fatal consequences. Housing reform was now the
main goal in order to stabilize this crippled community. However, this late housing reform after the
tragedy in 1936 led to urban decay of the Seventh Ward; many were migrating out of the Seventh
Ward in search for housing elsewhere. Turmoil in the city led to an uninhabitable location, leaving the
once booming black Seventh Ward as an abandoned parking lot and a memory of what it once

Essay On Nikola Tesla
Nikola Tesla, noted inventor, engineer, machinist, and electrical pioneer was born in 1846 in what is
now modern Croatia. His parents had five children which included siblings Dane, Angelina, Milka and
Marica, in the family. His mother, Djuka Mandic, who invented small household appliances in her
spare time while her son was growing up, spurred Tesla s interest in electrical invention. Tesla s father,
Milutin Tesla, was a Serbian orthodox priest and a writer, and he pushed for his son to join the
priesthood. Very little else is recorded regarding his early childhood or primary education. It is
rumored, though, that the young Tesla was alternately cheerful and upbeat, or sullen and solitary. A
general theme in his life, though, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While both men went on to continue developing sensational inventions, Edison is the man most
credited in history books for his work. Tesla, on the other hand, was not an inventor seeking fame, but
one who simply had a peculiar and uncanny view on the world. He was known to have outbursts of
creative genius that led to days of non stop work, eventually resulting in his register(ing) over 700
patents worldwide. His most well known work revolved around the Alternating Current electrical
theories. While this stood in direct opposition to the corporately backed efforts of Edison to promote a
Direct Current network for electrical distribution, Tesla continued with the idea of transmitting
electricity through the air, and free to all people. Edison scoffed at the idea, but even the newest
research in the 21st century reveals that Tesla s notions are quite feasible. In the end, it is clear that his
early education at home, his formal education on record, and his work with Edison all contributed to
the foundation of Nikola Tesla s broad range of work.
The public perception of Tesla was quite positive during his productive years, even earning the
financial backing of J. Pierpont Morgan for a while . Tesla s disputes with Edison grew over the years,
though, eventually leading Tesla to abandon much of his work later in life, and he eventually died
penniless in 1943 while residing in a New York hotel. By all accounts, he was

groups and institutions which affected the parents most in their childrearing practices. For both single
and dual earner mothers and fathers of these parents, the school, through the teacher, and the media
serve as sources of information for proper childcare and nurturance. Parents in dual earner families
find their social networks as support system in providing childcare and as agent in mediating parental
stress brought about by employment.
Fathers in both income groups and mothers in dual earner families recognized employment not only as
a source of bread and butter but also a factor that indirectly affects the parent child relationship. There
were also certain socialization patterns within the family system that may either promote or hamper
the development of prosocial behaviors among preschool children upon analysis of the observed
behaviors between the parent child dyads based on molar activities, interpersonal structures, roles,
communication patterns, and parental patterns of behaviors. Molar activities common to both single

Crim Dell Research Paper
Cleaning the Crim Dell
The synthesized plastic polymer PHA is a natural organic polymer derived from bacteria. These
synthesized plastic polymers have a plethora of functions and benefits, but its most important function
is its use in improving water quality.
The College Committee on Sustainability has already invested funds in producing and experimenting
with these PHA fibrous mats to improve water quality. In a laboratory controlled environment, the
PHA fibrous mat successfully denitrifies the water at a quick rate. From an incubation completed in
the Keck Lab, the experimental fibrous mat of PHA is shown to be able to drop the nitrate levels in
water to about one fourth of the original concentration in less than 20 hours. Due to the success in a
small scale lab experiment, there is a need for me to test the PHA fibrous mat in a large scale
environment to successfully assess its denitrifying effectiveness. I propose that the most suitable large
scale environment to test the PHA s denitrification would be at the Crim Dell due to its low water
quality levels and on going nonpoint source pollution from college runoff. ... Show more content on

I will set up automated water samplers upstream and downstream of the PHA mat, which will collect

spectrophotometric methods. I expect to show that dissolved nitrogen and phosphorus are removed

A Simple User Interaction Is Never Simple
A simple user interaction is never simple. A person responding to a product, service, or information
tool is also influenced by his or her surroundings, branded content, and even other people woven into
the experience. When we study, craft, and engineer an experience, we need to consider all these
elements in order to be empathetic and effective designers. Of course, users bring their own frame of
mind and external inputs to any interaction. These are elements designers cannot control. Part of what
we can control is a user s reaction to individual elements and touchpoints the things that ultimately
build an impression of a brand. These are things we can design. People new to user experience (UX)

Researchers also delve into trends at the product, design, consumer, and global level. They observe
market hurdles, whitespace and missed opportunities. Secondary research often plays a major role
here. Framing isn t just the gathering of that information. Framing is gathering, rebuilding, and
visualizing information so that it s easily grasped by everyone in the room, and serves as a useful tool
for further identifying opportunities. The importance of clear and impactful visual representations will
crop up again during later synthesis. 2) Watching and asking From framing we move into primary
research. Much of this consists of behavioral observation, focusing on points at which users are
offered choices (or lack of choice), points where they make decisions, the information on which they
base those decisions, and the behaviors they display when what they seek is unavailable. We call those
behaviors workarounds. Together with workarounds, we are examining pain points and joy points. Joy
points reveal what is working well about the current experience, while pain points highlight the
problematic aspects of the experience. In order to fully understand these joy and pain points, we watch

Dulce Decorum Est Tone
Wilfred Owen accomplishes a wide array of different objectives in his poem De Dulce Decorum Est
through his word choice, tone, and vivid imagery. Using a destitute tone consistently throughout the
first stanza, Owen creates a specific atmosphere. Giving objects life through extensive personification,
and comparing them through many similes. Owen also gives us a clear depiction of how he saw war,
being a soldier himself against the backdrop of WWI, Owen had a strong opposition to war and
suffered himself from shell shock. A portion of his poem in the last stanza is a direct reference to
Jessie Pope, a pro war poet. In the first stanza, the entire tone is dreary and completely void of any
positive qualities. Owen utilizes many sensory devices to give us a specific and intended feeling of
how the soldiers feel and to the extent of how exhausted they are. He creates vivid imagery through ...

The International Whaling Regime Essay
The International Whaling Regime
In his article, Whale Mining, Whale Saving, Sidney Holt states, saving the whales is for millions of
people a crucial test of their political ability to halt environmental destruction (Holt 1985). In a world
where environmental issues are often so vast that solving them seems impossible, it is rare to
encounter a regime which successfully addresses these problems. If we judge a regime s effectiveness
by its ability to change the behavior of its members and possibly even encourage others to join, then
the whaling regime was in fact quite effective. The significant decrease in commercial whaling
brought about by the International Whaling Commission (IWC) s 1982 moratorium is proof in itself of
the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This stipulation proved important in the evolution of the IWC over time because as non whaling
nations began to join in the 1960s and 1970s, they increased the pressure on the IWC to turn its focus
from that of market regulation to a preservationist or conservationist standpoint (Andressen in
Implementation and effectiveness... 1998). But why would nations who did not participate in the
whaling industry want to join the IWC? One reason might be that IWC membership was an easy (and
cheap) way to improve their reputation as green minded without having to make any significant
changes in policy. Furthermore, the decades between the 1960s and 1980s saw an increase in the
number of NGO s taking on the cause of whale conservation which also drove the IWC to re evaluate
its goals and objectives. As a result, the IWC agreed upon a 10 year moratorium on commercial
whaling in1982 and put it into effect in 1986. The moratorium prohibited all commercial whaling, and
granted certain quotas to indigenous peoples who needed the whales for subsistence, and to scientific
research efforts. After the10 year period, it was decided that a Comprehensive Assessment would be
conducted and enough data would be collected in order to reconsider the moratorium.
The moratorium proved largely successful in that many stocks of larger whales such as the Bowhead

Virgin Islands History
A Brief History of the U.S. Virgin Islands
Historians document that the first inhabitants, the Ciboneys, arrived on the islands during what is
considered the Pre Ceramic Culture. Arawaks were the next to arrive, establishing sites on St. John
and St. Croix around 100 AD. Probably the best known inhabitants, and those to arrive next, were the
savage Caribs and the more peaceful Tainos. Evidence of their time in the islands has been unearthed
in recent years, and includes stone griddles, zemis (small carvings depicting the faces of their gods)
and petroglyphs which are rock carvings visible on St. John s Reef Bay Trail.
The Caribs had taken control of St. Croix, then called Ay Ay, when Christopher Columbus sailed into
Salt River on his second voyage in 1493, claiming the islands for Spain. The battle between the
Indians and Columbus is considered the first insurgence in the New World. After renaming the island
Santa Cruz, Columbus headed north where he spotted a chain of islands. He proclaimed they would be

The industrial revolution ended the need for the islands as a shipping port, thus changing the economic
environment. Little was heard of the islands until World War I, when the United States realized their
strategic position and negotiated the purchase of the islands from Denmark for $25 million in gold.
Although the islands were purchased in 1917, it wasn t until 1927 that citizenship was granted to
Virgin Islanders. The Organic Act of 1936 allowed for the creation of a senate, and from there the
political process evolved. In 1970, the U.S. Virgin Islands elected its first governor, Melvin H. Evans.
Tourism grew in the destination once the United States imposed an embargo on Cuba in 1959. Today,
the USVI is a thriving destination for visitors in search of the perfect vacation.

  • 2. The Worker Next Door Matt Clendening Eng 1301 6th 1/24/10 Klepper The Worker Next Door In the essay The Worker Next Door written by Dr.Chris Chiswick, the author addresses the illegal immigrant problem in America, and gives several questionable reasons how if the flow of illegal immigrants were deterred, jobs would still be filled, and life would go on as usual, or even better. Dr.Chiswick wrote a not too convincing essay, having many places where he could have improved or even left out certain parts of his essay that would have made this writing better, and more realistic to his audience. I spotted a couple areas where the author went on a tangent of barely related areas to illegal immigration. Along with that, it doesn t really seem like he tried to ... • 4. Student Lo 7 Students Loan 7 student loan myths debunked When it comes to student loans, there is a lot of information to take in especially for a new college student who is exploring their financing options for the first time, or a new graduate who has just started paying off their student loan debt. With all of the different information out there, it can be easy to get confused, and perhaps even misunderstand certain things about student loans. The following are some common student loan myths, debunked: Myth #1: I m not worried about my student loan debt, because I can just have some or all of my debt forgiven Fact: It s not easy to qualify for student loan forgiveness. The criteria can be rather strict, and you usually have to be working in a specific industry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You can usually get your payments adjusted and lowered based on your income, so if you haven t exactly reached the salary you were hoping for post graduation, don t fret. You may also be able to temporarily defer payments as well. However, you ll want to consider the disadvantage of not opting for a standard repayment schedule. You are essentially lengthening your loan by delaying the inevitable, which means you ll pay more interest in the end. Myth #3: I can discharge my student loan debt through bankruptcy if I ever really need to Fact: Not all debts can be discharged through bankruptcy, and typically, student loan debt falls into that category. That doesn t mean it s impossible, but isn t as easy as discharging other types of debt, and you may not be eligible. As such, it s important to not just assume that bankruptcy can be an automatic solution for any student loan debt troubles. Myth #4: I probably don t qualify for financial aid, so I should just take out student loans Fact: Not necessarily. Many students qualify for some level of funding, and unlike student loans, financial aid usually doesn t need to be paid back (there are some exceptions to this for example, if you fail a class). It doesn t cost anything to just apply and see what you re eligible for. Even if you don t receive enough financial aid to avoid student loans completely, every little bit helps, and that s less you ll need to borrow. Myth #5: I ll be required to borrow far more ... Rome controlling the Italian Peninsula while Carthage controlling the west of the Mediterranean. (Morey, 1901). Depending on different periods; the two empires were similar or different in different ways. At the turn of the 3rd century BCE, Carthage had a huge trading network compared to Rome, and it had colonies in Africa, Sicily, etc, while Rome just controlled the Italian peninsula. During this period, the Romans had ripped off the model for naval ships from the Carthaginians, so the Roman navy was just a joke to none, while the Carthaginians had a huge navy. (Morey, 1901). • 6. Mouse Plagues In Australia The first article chosen to review is Population dynamics of house mice in Queensland grain growing areas, 2013, Wildlife Research, 40, 661 674 by Anthony Pople, Joe Scanlan, Peter Cremasco, and Julianne Farrell . This article focuses on the population field mice in the Darling Downs. This region of Australia is an extremely arable district in south eastern Queensland that has lost the majority of its native vegetation cover to agriculture (Fensham and Fairfax, 1997). The theme of this ecological topic demonstrates how a population of a species can increase due to the availability of food, and the methods to reduce numbers via poison baiting. The article aims to answer whether it is possible to predict mouse plagues in grain crops in Queensland. Plagues of house mice begin to damage cereal crops immediately after sowing (Mutze and Hubbard, 2000), which can cause stunting and reduced plant growth. Forecasting plagues will allow the mice to be proactively controlled by poison baiting, resulting in higher crop yield. It is hypothesized that a prediction of these plagues, followed by poison baiting, will result in much fewer numbers of field mice left to consume crops. Relating back to the main question, this demonstrates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since 1974, mice have been regularly trapped at sites within the Darling Downs, which shows the population variation over time. Factors such as crop size and location, native forest clearing, rainfall, and temperature have all contributed to the impact of mice numbers. Comparing these numbers with other locations in Queensland will show a comparison of population fluctuations, which will enable a prediction method to be created. This is an important study as it highlights the need to reduce mice numbers to in turn decrease rodent inflicted yield loss, damage to buildings and machinery, health risks, and rodent infested areas (Jacob et al., ... • 7. Cornstarch Essay In the world today, many people enjoy the sensation of bath bombs for its relaxing feeling and amazing aroma. Although people enjoy them, many people are allergic to citric acid which is a main ingredient in bath bombs. The objective is to find alternatives to citric acid and to find the ingredient that causes the bath bomb to fizz the most and the fastest. Cornstarch will be one of the alternatives to citric acid. Cornstarch is a starch that comes from the white part of corn, and it is a white powder that when left alone is a brittle solid. Cornstarch s molecular formula is C27H48O20. Cornstarch is a polymer, and the chains that create it move by each either, but it does take time to do so. When it is mixed with water, a certain appearance and feel is shown that is unique to cornstarch. The mixture of cornstarch and water is called a suspension because two substances are being blended together. It is most commonly used for its binding and thickening properties in the kitchen. In the 1700s, Isaac Newton identified the properties of a liquid, and later called them Newtonian fluids. Ooze does not act like any normal liquid, so it is called a non Newtonian fluid. When ... The longer the mixture is left, the cornstarch will begin to settle in the bottom of the bowl. Second, Mark s words are used verbatium Matthew and Luke. Third, Matthew and Luke follow the same sequence of events as Mark. Finally, Matthew and Luke sometimes reword Mark s uncomfortable passages of scripture to allow smooth transitions and ease of understanding.[5] Markan Priority The Markan Priority is the belief that Mark was the first to write his account then Matthew and Luke used his recordings along with an unknown source to write their accounts. Although it is said that Matthew and Luke used Mark s account and another unknown source to write their versions of the gospel, it is also believed that Mark used some unknown source to supplement his gospel as well.[6] Weaknesses in the Markan Priority To accept the Markan Priority one must first denounce the word of Jesus, that the Holy Spirit would bring all things back to their remembrance ; the testimonies of the early church leaders and historical facts. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A good plot progresses like a knot that is tied up with increasingly greater complexity until the moment of peripeteia, at which point the knot is gradually untied until it reaches a completely unknotted conclusion. For a tragedy to arouse pity and fear, we must observe a hero who is relatively noble going from happiness to misery as a result of error on the part of the hero. Our pity and fear is aroused most when it is family members who harm one another rather than enemies or strangers. In the best kind of plot, one character narrowly avoids killing a family member unwittingly thanks to an anagnorisis that reveals the family connection. The hero must have good qualities appropriate to his or her station and should be portrayed realistically and consistently. Since both the character of the hero and the plot must have logical consistency, Aristotle concludes that the untying of the plot must follow as a necessary consequence of the plot and not from stage artifice, like a deus ex machina (a machine used in some plays, in which an actor playing one of the gods was lowered onto the stage at the end). Aristotle discusses thought and diction and then moves on to address epic poetry. Whereas tragedy consists of actions presented in a dramatic form, epic poetry consists of verse presented in a narrative form. Tragedy and epic poetry have many common qualities, most notably the unity of plot and similar subject matter. However, epic poetry can be longer than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Euthyphro Main question of the Dialogue The main question of this dialogue is the definition of the word holy or piety. Euthyphro brags that he is more knowledgeable than his father on matters relating to religion. In this case, Socrates suggests to Euthyphro to define that term. The first definition fails to satisfy Socrates because of its limitation in application. Apparently, Socrates perceives this definition as an example rather than a definition. Subsequent arguments and line of questioning lead to five sets of definitions that are refined to find the general definition. Socrates expects that the acceptable general definition of the question will act as a reference point in his defense. Problems with Euthyphro s initial definition According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this case, the argument would imply that the justification is both holy and unholy, which is rationally impractical. What Socrates uses to Combat Euthyphro s Conceptions of holiness At the core of Socrates argument is the need to break down the definition of holiness into smaller coherent characteristics. Socrates uses a series of question that are consistent with Euthyphro s argument to ensure that he [Euthyphro] offers a consistent flow of definitions of the word holy. Euthyphro accepts these ideas because he offers different definitions that are in line with the clarified ideations. Socrates uses basic philosophical question What is holy? , which leads to a myriad of definitions with different characteristics. Euthyphro sums up all these characteristics in the final definition. Euthyphro s problem is that he is trying to show his prowess among social and philosophical elite by proving his father to be impious. His ego coupled with his father s flattery obscures Euthyphro from developing concrete definitions. Deeper (Philosophical) Point of Justice Socrates point on justice is that everything that is termed just ought to be entirely holy. On the other hand, not everything that is deemed holy is just. However, the term just is used interchangeably with the term morally good. I think Socrates point is to find enough proof to support any premise beyond reasonable doubt. This reaction is called oxidation. Oxidation can occur on old cars, iron, exhaust and even the burning of fossil fuels. When wood, natural gas, or coal burns, the oxygen in the air combines with the carbon and hydrogen in the fuel to produce water and the oxides of carbon. (Prentice Hall Chemistry The Study of Matter p.599.) Rust may seem like an average everyday phenomenon, however many things we cannot see take place as the rust begins to form. In Othello, Othello is the only black character, but in our film the only important white character is Deborah. Though unintentional, it shows how Deborah cannot do anything, even though she is the privileged race. Even though Deb only talks to Iris a few times, she seems to genuinely trusted her, which shows the general consensus on Iris personality as well as reinforcing Deb s feminine and simple personality. • 18. The Aircraft Manufacturing Industry During World War II During World War II, the aircraft manufacturing industry took off. According to Dr. Bright (1978), by the year 1944 it was the largest industry in America (p. 1). It soon declined in the years following due to material flaws, lack in engine performance, and production manufacturing methods. One contributing factor was metal fatigue, this occurs when metal parts that undergo many repeated strains eventually fail at a loading far below their original ultimate strength , Garrison (2005) (p. 1). Manufacturers at the time primarily used aluminum and steel, because of their overall strength and how readily they were available. What engineers did not consider was the abuse the airframes would take over time. This factor went overlooked, resulting in numerous crashes with fatalities. Although cheaper to manufacture, piston type airplane engines require more maintenance than that of their jet engine counterparts. In fact, a jet engine can go for 3,000 hours while an overhaul for a piston aircraft is generally 2,000 hours , Piston Engine (2011). This source goes on to compare the average top speed of a piston engine driven aircraft which is usually around 200 KIAS. This is relatively slow when compared to the average jet engine that can reach 300 KIAS. The manufacturing industry took a big hit after the war, Bugos (2001) found that total sales by American aircraft firms were $16 billion in 1944; by 1947 they were only $1.2 billion, . • 21. Manatees, The Gentle Giant Is Going Extinct Essays The West Indian Manatee (Trichechus manatus) is a marine mammal that lives in the coastal waters and around the offshore reefs of Belize. Manatees have large gray bodies covered with algae or barnacles. They are herbivores that consume marine vegetation such as sea grass and surface regularly to breathe. They reside in sea grass beds and in mangroves that provide them with shelter. The West Indian Manatee is listed as vulnerable under the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, and may eventually be listed as endangered. In Belize, mangroves estimate up to 3.4% of the land area, about 296 square miles (CITE). Mangroves serve important ecological service such as erosion control, filter, and clean, while also providing shelter to many marine organisms like lemon sharks, invertebrates, shrimp, and manatees. There is a lot of biodiversity in mangroves and due to the clearance for urban and rural development, many of these organisms are losing their homes (Patterson). Belize s coastal areas are usually sea grass beds. Sea grass destruction strip away habitats from numerous lobster, conch, fish, turtles, and manatees (CITE). Sea grass is the manatee s main food source and destruction of these beds limits their grazing and range. Watercraft traffic in these shallow areas is also another reason of harming the sea grass beds. Watercrafts are a huge threat for manatees by of degradation of sea grass beds. Watercrafts are also dangerous in the sense that their propellers strike the manatees which is one of the causes of their deaths. Many manatee accidents have been reported due to watercraft collision in Belize, and in the state of Florida. In 2003, the Florida Fish Wildlife Conservation Commission showed a report that a total of 305 manatees were killed due to watercrafts. This also depends on the speed of the watercraft that is travelling. If it is travelling at a higher speed, it can damage the manatee tremendously or even kill it. In the empirical article, Black Philly after the Philadelphia Negro, Marcus Anthony Hunter examines the once populated Seventh Ward and the effects that political neglect and racial barriers had on this primarily black area, which ultimately led to its urban decay. Similarly, in recent years, we see this occurring in Vesterbro, Copenhagen. However, we notice how the neglect towards Vesterbro stems from other factors such as immigration, crime, and a poor economy. Hunter examined the archives of the Seventh Ward, specifically after W.E.B. Du Bois initial study of the Seventh Ward. From the 1920s through the 1940s, Hunter found that the poor living conditions did not improve. Instead, they were constant, suggesting that Republican politicians neglected this black area. His most well known work revolved around the Alternating Current electrical theories. While this stood in direct opposition to the corporately backed efforts of Edison to promote a Direct Current network for electrical distribution, Tesla continued with the idea of transmitting electricity through the air, and free to all people. Edison scoffed at the idea, but even the newest research in the 21st century reveals that Tesla s notions are quite feasible. These synthesized plastic polymers have a plethora of functions and benefits, but its most important function is its use in improving water quality. The College Committee on Sustainability has already invested funds in producing and experimenting with these PHA fibrous mats to improve water quality. In a laboratory controlled environment, the PHA fibrous mat successfully denitrifies the water at a quick rate. From an incubation completed in the Keck Lab, the experimental fibrous mat of PHA is shown to be able to drop the nitrate levels in water to about one fourth of the original concentration in less than 20 hours. The International Whaling Regime Essay The International Whaling Regime In his article, Whale Mining, Whale Saving, Sidney Holt states, saving the whales is for millions of people a crucial test of their political ability to halt environmental destruction (Holt 1985). In a world where environmental issues are often so vast that solving them seems impossible, it is rare to encounter a regime which successfully addresses these problems. If we judge a regime s effectiveness by its ability to change the behavior of its members and possibly even encourage others to join, then the whaling regime was in fact quite effective. This stipulation proved important in the evolution of the IWC over time because as non whaling nations began to join in the 1960s and 1970s, they increased the pressure on the IWC to turn its focus from that of market regulation to a preservationist or conservationist standpoint (Andressen in Implementation and effectiveness... 1998). But why would nations who did not participate in the whaling industry want to join the IWC? One reason might be that IWC membership was an easy (and cheap) way to improve their reputation as green minded without having to make any significant changes in policy. Furthermore, the decades between the 1960s and 1980s saw an increase in the number of NGO s taking on the cause of whale conservation which also drove the IWC to re evaluate its goals and objectives. As a result, the IWC agreed upon a 10 year moratorium on commercial whaling in1982 and put it into effect in 1986. The moratorium prohibited all commercial whaling, and granted certain quotas to indigenous peoples who needed the whales for subsistence, and to scientific research efforts.
