The Egg Of The Domestic Chicken
Several physiological, biochemical, nutritional, structural and morphological studies have been carried
on avian eggs, and most of these have utilized the egg of the domestic chicken. (1) Due to its
availability and commercial importance as a nutritious food for human consumption, avian eggs can
feasibly be studied in vitro and in vivo. Egg proteins are nutritionally complete with a great balance of
essential amino acids, which are demanded to build and to repair the cells in muscles and other body
organs. (2) Moreover, the egg contains high quantity of nutrients such as fatty acid, minerals like iron,
calcium phosphorus, zinc, and vitamins A, B2, B6, B12, D, E, and K. (3) In addition to its excellent
nutritional value, egg proteins have unique biological activities. It is well known that egg proteins are
a source of biologically active peptides. Many types of research are aiming to determine biological
functions of peptides in egg proteins.(4) Those peptides are inactive within the sequence of parent
proteins and can be delivered during gastrointestinal digestion leading to exerting their biological
antioxidant, anti hypertensive, antimicrobial, and anticancer activities. (5) Thus, the aim of the present
study was to investigate the antioxidant activity of the vitelline membrane and to

The And Ethnic Groups Of Nigeria
Final Paper
Nigeria

Nigeria
For my final project, I chose to research (Africa) Nigeria. Nigeria, Africa s most populous country, is
composed of more than 250 ethnic groups; the most populous and politically influential are: Hausa
and the Fulani 29%, Yoruba 21%, Igbo (Ibo) 18%, Ijaw 10%, Kanuri 4%, Ibibio 3.5%, and Tiv 2.5%.
British influence and control over what would become Nigeria and Africa s most populous country
grew through the 19th century. A series of constitutions after World War II granted Nigeria greater
autonomy. After independence in 1960, politics were marked by coups and mostly military rule, until
the death of a military head of state in 1998 allowed for a political transition (CIA, 2012).
Nigeria s culture reflects and represents all of the multiple ethnic groups. In Nigeria there are over 521
languages and over 250 ethnic groups and dialects. Out of all the groups, there are four really large
groups. The four groups are Hausa and Fulani predominant from the north, Igbo predominant from the
southeast and Yoruba predominant from the southwest (en.wikipedia.org). Nigeria, a country where
they did not practice a particular religion. They believe in a God called Chineke or Chukwu. This God
was said that the creator was approached through many different deities and spirits from objects,

The Sui, Sang, Tang Dynasties

The Sui Dynasty, started from 581 and ended in 618, the Sui Dynasty lasted for only 38 years and had
only three emperors. With a tyrannical second emperor Emperor Yang, this dynasty was often
compared to the Qin Dynasty (221 BC 206 BC). However, the whole nation was reunified and certain
economic and political advances were achieved in the period. At the end of the Northern and Southern
Dynasties (386 589), the whole nation had undergone a long period of division. People who had
endured sufferings of war were longing for the unification but neither the Northern Dynasties nor
Southern Dynasties realized this goal. In Northern Zhou (557 ... Show more content on

Atlantis Research Paper
Over the years, there have been plenty of islands that have disappeared. However, one island has has
been given a ton of attention. This island is called Atlantis and was referenced in the greek philosopher
Plato s work. The people that inhabited the Atlantis were supposed to be very advanced compared to
other civilizations. History.com says, Plato (through the character Critias in his dialogues) describes
Atlantis as an island larger than Libya and Asia Minor put together, located in the Atlantic just beyond
the Pillars of Hercules generally assumed to mean the Strait of Gibraltar. The island eventually sank
into the sea due to earthquakes and flooding. Many people thought Plato s book was just a myth until
in a scholar claimed it might ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One theory is that Atlantis was a mid atlantic island that sunk into the ocean. This is very plausible
because of the fact that this part of ocean is only a few hundred feet deep. This means that an
earthquake could have very well weakened the foundation of the island. Then, if it did flood to like
Plato said then it could have easily sunk into the sea floor. This is what Palto explains in his book but
there also could have been many other ways that the island was destroyed, from tsunamis to volcanos.
Next, another theory is that Atlantis was swallowed by the bermuda triangle. This myth could also
very well be true because there are what looks like man made walls and streets off the coast of Bimini,
although scientist evaluate the structures and found them to be natural rock formation. Finally, the last
theory is that Atlantis was Antarctica. History.com explains According to Hapgood, around 12,000
years ago the Earth s crust shifted, displacing the continent that became Antarctica from a location
much further north than it is today. This more temperate continent was home to an advanced
civilization, but the sudden shift to its current frigid location doomed the civilization s inhabitants the
Atlanteans and their magnificent city was buried under layers of ice. Hapgood s theory surfaced
before the scientific world gained a full understanding of plate tectonics, which largely relegated his
shifting crust idea to the fringes of Atlantean beliefs. This explains that explorers that are looking for
atlantis may truly be in the wrong place, instead of looking through the sea they should be digging
through ice. There are many plausible theories out there but all of them are either missing evidence or
need more investigation. Therefore there are plenty of theros that explain Atlantis

Vitiligo Case Study
1. Medical treatment:
Seeking medical treatment to attempt to regain pigmentation in the skin often consists of topical cream
and ointment application to the white spots. Medical treatments can also include oral medication for
helping the mechanism behind vitiligo internally. Topical corticosteroids are most often used when
initially diagnosed with vitiligo. The most common topical treatments are Tacrolimus and
Pimecrolimus in a potency of 0.10% and 0.03% respectively. When a patient has less than 20% of the
skins surface affected by vitiligo, topical corticosteroids are most often prescribed to initiate the
process of repigmentation19. Different potencies of the topical steroid are given according to the age

The photodynamic qualities of the PUVA light therapy utilize nonhazardous and light sensitive
compounds, which are carefully exposed to the UVA light. The mixture of both the nonhazardous
compound and the light form a toxic mixture that is turn breaks down the malignant cells of the skin.
When psoralens are combined with the UVA light, they are highly effective at clearing depigmented
skin patches formed from vitiligo. This is done by increasing the reactivity of the melanocytes, which
reside directly under the skin layers of the white pigmented patches to the UVA light20. Melanocyte
cells have a certain property built into their cells mechanism, which can detect UV light occurrence
and trigger its functional properties to bring back natural skin color and pigment on a person. The
natural skin tone in turn can efficiently protect against the destructive properties of UV light. The
initial dosage of the psoralen is determined by the spread of patches across a person s body and overall
severity of the case. Progressively with more treatments, the dosage of psoralen also increases, adding
more and more sensitivity properties to the melanocyte cells. The ultraviolet light therapy, PUVA is
currently the most effective at treating vitiligo21. Physicians often perform PUVA light therapy
alongside the usage of topical treatment in order to better enhance the effects of the light

Number Fifteen: The Program Has Been in the Same Time Slot for 40 Years.
After bouncing around time slots for a while, mostly due to FCC programing regulations, CBS
scheduled 60 Minutes for 7 PM on Sunday nights starting in 1975. With the exception of sports
presentations going overtime, it remains in this time slot to this day, making it the longest running
prime time show in history.

Where Atoms Come From We Are All Star Stuff
Chapter Four: Where Atoms Come From: We Are All Star Stuff
1. How are elements with atomic numbers greater than iron s atomic number formed? (1 mark)
Elements with atomic numbers greater than iron s atomic number form during the formation of a
supernovae, also known as a mini bang. The process begins when a massive star has depleted its
supply of magnesium and silicon, and only has a bare iron ore remaining. Now, the star no longer has
the energy to maintain its immense mass against the force of gravity, and as a result, the entire star
collapses. This process fuses together electrons and protons in the core, which forms neutrons. After
neutrons build up in the ore, the star recoils in the form of an explosion. During the explosion, the
neutrons attach to iron atoms in the ore, and begin converting back to protons and electrons. As a
result, iron atoms are able to become different elements with greater atomic numbers.
2. Explain how Patterson determined the age of the Earth (4.55 billion years old)? (2 marks)

When a massive star depletes all of its magnesium and silicon supply, it will only have an iron ore
remaining. At this point, they will not have enough energy to sustain the inner pull of gravity, and the

When the ore is filled with neutrons, a rebound will occur, and everything will explode outwards,
during which the neutrons will surround the iron atoms and will separate into protons and electrons.
Now, the iron atom has excess of protons and electrons, which means that it is a different and heavier
element, as the number of protons have increased. Heavier elements like gold get made during this
process, when iron atoms gain

Analysis of Dostoevsky´s Crime and Punishment Essay example
In Dostoevsky s Crime and Punishment, the murder of the pawnbroker bears little significance when
compared to the punishment that Raskolnikov endures. The murder is the direct result of Raskolnikov
s Ubermensch theory. Though it takes a while for Raskolnikov to realize the profound mistake in his
theory and in his logic, his tedious yet prolific journey eventually leads him to redemption. Suffering,
guilt and societal alienation prompt Raskolnikov to reject his Ubermensch theory and ultimately
achieve redemption. Through Raskolnikov s character, Dostoevsky reveals that the psychological
punishment inflicted by an unethical action is more effective in leading to self realization than any
physical punishment.

Therefore Amoia notes that, as the implications of the deed unfold in his conscience, Raskolnikov
attempts to jusitfy his actions as a rational crime (53). Though he understands that he will be able to
escape the physical punishement for the crime, he has yet to comprehend the burden that comes with
such an unethical action. Even when Porfiry suggests that the criminal who murdered the pawnbroker
may run away but, psychologically he won t escape (287), Raskolnikov becomes infuriated and
accuses Porfiry of trying to scare him. However, Raskolnikov fails to understand the meaning behind
Porfiry s words perhaps because he still chooses not to rely on his conscience and confess to the
crime. While the superiority complex sets him apart from the society in the beginning, his piercing
conscience distances him from people later on in the novel. He refuses to speak to Razumuikhin or to
his family. It only before he goes to jail, that he decides to see his mother. Even when he does so, he is
relieved that Dunya is not in the room. He later admits to Dunya that he doesn t, even remember why
[I] even went to meet his mother. His conscience does not allow him to face his loved ones and
eventually, he tries to isolate himself from society. While Raskolnikov tries to alienate himself from
his own conscience, he is alienating himself from humanity in general.

Why Satire Matters In The Princess Bride By William Goldman
Why satire matters in The Princess Bride
The Princess Bride by William Goldman is a satirical story full of irony, in which the author creates a
humorous and enjoyable read by having an abundance of character parodies. In the book The Princess
Bride, the author satirizes fairytales and the characters through their appearance and actions. In the
novel, the author portrays his characters as unfitting to the story. Goldman presents the story as a
fairytale but it is the very opposite, as he constantly ridicules his characters. As a result, Goldman
constructs a captivating read. Furthermore, Goldman is also obsessed with fairy tales and believes in
satirizing them. He often creates characters which illustrate a fairytale but in actuality they ... Show

Goldman s portrayals of the characters mock the analogy of traditional fairytale. Firstly, fairy tales
present a story where two characters fall in love and have a happy marriage after, however Goldman
portrays the main character very satirically. Goldman instead of following the traditional fairy tale
analogy of the main character living at the end, he instead decides to kill him not once but twice.
Shorty after Westkey dies in the zoo of death he is revived by the Miracle Max, Fezzik cried, You re
alive! , (Goldman 329) when Westley after being killed was brought back. While many may think of
this as fairy tale story with the perfect ending, though Goldman was not satisfied. So, after Westley
and Buttercup successfully escape, Westley and everybody again disappear this time with no clear
ending whether Westley or others survived or died. In this scenario Goldman satrically ridicules the
idea of a fairy tale and having a happy ending as he very much disagrees with happy endings . In the
evidence above it is very evident that Goldmans enjoys mocking fairy tales with the use of satire.
Secondly, in many fairy tales prince are usually associated with saving the princess from evil and have
good looks and are brave also smart. Prince Humperdinck who is shown as the prince of Florin is a
joke to fairytale philosophy, as the author models

Who Is The Hero Of The Hobbit
1. Who is the hero of The Hobbit?
J.R.R Tolkien s The Hobbit or There and Back Again implements many forms of heroism; whether it
be Bilbo, Bard, Gandalf, or even Thorin and his dwarves. Relating to this, there is no one hero per se
but rather multiple; the heroes face both internal and external challenges. This essay will argue that the
heroes of The Hobbit are Bilbo, Gandalf, Bard and Thorin respectively, in addition, this essay will also
analyse the first stage of the hero s journey structure according to Joseph Campbell regarding Bilbo.
Firstly, the main protagonist Bilbo Baggins sets a benchmark to the notion of an archetype hero.
Kennedy, Gioia and Bauerlein describe an archetype as a recurring symbol, character, landscape, or ...

Just as Campbell notes, the figure encounters a series of dangers, in this case being the trolls, the
goblins, escaping from Gollum and going into Smaug s lair. With assistance from Gandalf the group is
saved from the goblins; however, the dwarves and Bilbo are separated. The interaction between
Gollum and Bilbo demonstrates a quality trait exhibited by a hero and, as a result, Bilbo s actions are
seen to outweigh his individual characteristics. Simultaneously, Bilbo displays wisdom in answering
Gollum s riddles and in turn exhibits cunning; Bilbo seeing what had happened and having nothing
better to ask stuck to his question (74). In the same way, Bilbo s adventure is seen according to Pearce
as a pilgrimage of grace in which he grows up (3). Therefore, Bilbo s main goal of his adventure
according to Pearce is to eliminate evil amongst themselves (3); thus, identifying an internal quest.
Particularly after Smaug s death, the corruption of the gold leads the dwarf leader Thorin Oakenshield
to suffer from dragon sickness; the obsessive possessiveness of dragons (Pearce 83). The actions of
Bilbo and internal qualities such as wisdom and cunning thus concludes that he is a hero in The
Hobbit, however, other characters exhibit heroic qualities.
Gandalf henceforth can also be depicted as the hero of the story, heroism therefore can be determined
by actions. Moreover, his role as the

The Crucible Revenge Analysis
Who would ve ever thought that a whole town would want revenge on everyone? In Arthur Miller s
The Crucible, there are many instances where revenge comes into play. The most important plots of
revenge are when the character, Abigail, wants revenge on someone. Some of the main plots are seen
when she tries to plot revenge on Elizabeth but it is also shown when she uses her anger to control the
girls and when she steals her uncle s money in the end of the play. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller
shows that many people in the town want revenge, but in a negative way. Throughout the play revenge
is negatively shown, it is very apparent in Act II when Abigail shows revenge towards Elizabeth. One
of the most important plots of revenge on Elizabeth is when she made it seem like Elizabeth had
stabbed her. Abigail were stabbed tonight; a needle were found stuck in her belly (Miller 860).
Elizabeth received a poppet as a gift from Mary Warren that night. Mary Warren had been sewing it in
court and Abby was sitting right by her when she was sewing it. Abby must ve noticed that Mary had
left the needle in the stomach of the poppet and used that to get revenge on Elizabeth. That night

Social Class And Gender Roles
How are the tensions between social classes and/or genders dramatised in Modern European Drama?
Social class and gender roles, were and still are today, a key element in the progression of theatre.
Dada and Futurism, as movements in theatre took place at the time of the social class war, the
prejudice against women and their rights and the struggle to create an equal society. The two
movements, of avant garde style contained three stage in which they were able to create;
analysis...engagement...forward vision (Berghaus, 2005). Their method to create art and theatre was
impelled on by their desire to attack the dominant ideology of bourgeois society (Berghaus, 2005)
some claim that the word was discovered by opening a dictionary at random (Sawelson Gorse, 1998)
Dada was a crusade in order to win back the promise land of creativity (Berghaus, 2005). Dada, as a
movement, did not only take form of inspiring art, but it was a protest, to test the bourgeois society.
Dada, as movement has a rampant and wild allure about it. The way in which it was approached and is
approached today is similar in a sense of strength and power. In his manifesto Tzara is clear that dada
was born of a need of independence (Tzara, 1918), this does not only imply that there was no
independence in terms of art, but also that Constructivism needed to be moved forward. In Tristen
Tzara s Dadaist Manifesto he does not only have a fighting attitude toward Dada, but also has resilient

Circle of Stones Woman s Journey to Herself is basically a guide for women to find their true selves
using the ancient archetypal feminine manifest form. There are a group of women that are being very

The Navy Seals began as early as World War II. Volunteers from the Naval Construction Battalions
(SeaBees) were organized into special teams called Navy Combat Demolition Units (NCDUs). The
units were assigned the task of exploring and clearing beach obstacles for troops going to land ashore.
Combat Swimmer Exploration teams were established during this time. The Navy SEALs are trained

Essay On Nursing Home Neglect
Most people dread nursing homes because it conjures up all types of negative images. Unfortunately,
many of the stories that we hear are true. Despite all the attention this issue has received recently,
neglect in nursing homes continues at an alarming rate. A large majority of nursing home residents
report some type of neglect every year. Tragically, only a few come to light as most seniors either do
not have the ability to communicate or are simply too afraid to speak up.
There are different types of nursing home neglect some of which include:
1. Medical neglect: This is said to occur when the nursing facility fails to meet or address the basic
medical concerns of the senior resident. For example, if the patient is diabetic, their blood sugar level
needs to be checked frequently. If this is not done, there is a risk that the patient may go into a coma.
Similarly, if a resident presents with symptoms of vomiting, severe abdominal pain, fever, and
diarrhea, it is important to take this condition seriously and to transfer the patient to the nearest. If the
staff does not monitor or cater to these medical situations, they are neglecting the patients.
2. Failure to meet basic living needs: Some nursing homes fail to meet the basic living needs of the
resident. For example, the resident is left in bed with soiled diapers for several days or is not provided
with an adequate amount of food or water, this type of treatment is against basic humanity. There are

When an epidemic or catastrophe affects a community or nation depending on the resilience of the the

The situation was so dire that almost everyone expected death and did not care about any mortal
possession. In some places, people shut themselves in their homes to prevent contact with other people
to prevent themselves from coming into contact with those affected. Some farmers let go of their
livestock and farms they left ripe wheat uncut because they felt there was no need as the world was
coming to an end. Even family members and kinsfolk forsook each other as if their ties meant or blood
meant nothing, parents abandon their children everyone was on their own. To make matter worse the
physicians and doctors that were trying to treat the disease where dying before they could even
diagnose it in some cases the doctors died even before the patients they were treating this made many
doctors flee or shut themselves in their homes. Family members and beloved people were dying and
there were not even graves nor mass graves to bury them nor did anyone shed a tear. The Europeans
lost hope sympathy and empathy among themselves. To make matters worse they had no one to look
up to as Priest refuse to come to hearing of those dying in fear of death and notaries refused to make
wills of those that were dying. Also, monarch and nobles that ruled them fled to safe haven cut off
from the world. This made the Europeans lose faith in almost everything they believed

Aristotle s Pre-Islamic Theory
The theory of how common illnesses were sent from the gods as a form of punishment along with how
healing as a gift used to be a common theory in the Ancient Greek times. Little by little this theory
changed over time with the help of Greek philosophers Empedocles, Aristotle, and Hippocates. The
hurmoral theory developed in Ancient Greese around 470 400 B.C, by a Greek Physician Hippocates.
This theory developed as time passed and our understanding of how the world worked. It also had a
significant influence on modern day medicine. By this theory developing throughout the ages it can
easily be described as the bench mark of human anatomy and the medical profession that we now
know today. The influence and development in Greek and Islamic Medicine and the culture was
amazing.
The Greek Philosopher Empedocles is a part of the Pre Socratic (philosophers before Socrates). He is
best recognized for describing the four building blocks that construct the universe. His way of
explaining elements were depending on the mixture and the combination of fire, air, earth, and water

How Leaders Motivate Employees And Organizations
I. What is the title of your Focus Area?
Organizational Leadership=====================
II. What issue(s) or specific problem(s) do you want to address in your Advanced Project, and why is
that of interest to you?
=====================
I d like to address the problem of how leaders motivate employees in organizations. This is a general
topic which can have a wide range of applicability (and that s part of its appeal to me). But the
problem of employee motivation, and how leaders can stimulate and/or make use of that motivation, is
critical to the success of any organization. A leader can have the perfect plan of action and yet fall
short of meeting their objective simply because they did not know how to generate momentum among
their subordinates in an organization. If I am to find myself in a leadership position this is a problem I
d like to avoid!
=====================
III. What are your expected learning outcomes? =====================
Please articulate at least three different learning outcomes by describing
how the Advanced Project will increase your background knowledge: =====================
The advanced project will give m a solid base of knowledge about how members of an organization
are motivated to complete its various projects (critical projects and otherwise). This knowledge base
will make me more equipped to spot problems in my own style of leadership, as well as in the
organization I try to lead. And spotting such problems is, of course, a

Essay On Sleep Apnea
One of the most common types of sleep disorders that a person may suffer from is sleep apnea. Sleep
apnea is when a person suffers from uncontrolled stops in breathing. People with this disorder usually
stop breathing while asleep. This disorder is caused from blockage in the airway. When a person is
asleep, the airway may become tight because the muscles that keep it open are relaxed. One form of
sleep apnea is obstructive sleep apnea. In obstructive sleep apnea, blockage in the airway may be
caused from clotted tissue or fat. Snoring can be caused from any air that gets through the blockage.
When the snoring is stopped and the airway is completely blocked, a person may stop breathing for
about ten to twenty seconds or until the brain recognizes the apnea. A less common form of ... Show

Daytime sleepiness is considered to be the most common symptom that a person with sleep apnea
suffers from. Although a person is not aware of the problem that they have, they are aware of the
symptoms because the sleep that they are getting is not good quality sleep. As a result of the
symptoms they are having, the person with sleep apnea will experience a full day of feeling tired
(Davis w.p.). In order to treat sleep apnea, a sleep test called a polysomnography is performed on the
patient. According to Dr. Vince Berger, This test records the patient s brain waves, heartbeat, and
breathing during an entire night. Treatments are available to patients who are diagnosed with sleep
apnea. Some cases of sleep apnea can be treated by advising the patient to lose weight and to stop
sleeping on his or her back. More extreme cases of sleep apnea may require the patient to have surgery
in order to fix the blockage that prevents a person from breathing. The most common type of treatment
that is recommended is a specialized device called a

Transracial Adoption Research Paper
When a white Minnesotan couple adopted their African American child in 1948, they opened the door
to a social debate that would span decades (Hawkins Leon 1239). This first act of transracial adoption
[TRA] instigated conversation on whether agencies should limit child placement to same race matches
or extend placement to interracial matches. It questioned the appropriateness of crossing racial lines.
Today, TRA occurs more often than it did in the 20th century. This frequency calls to attention a need
for conclusion of the dispute. While race occupies a defining space of a child s identity, the need for a
family supersedes the need for same race matching, and calls for the acceptance of TRA. Studies
suggest that transracial adoption destabilizes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps the main concern for transracial adoptees concerning their racial situation involves their sense
of identity, divided between racial and personal (Deberry 2377). One study worth mention concerning
racial identity used the Clark and Clark Doll Test, which features two dolls with dark and light skin,
and found only a seven percent difference between the black identification of transracial black
adoptees to inracial black adoptees (Morrison 182). Regarding personal identities, outcome studies
suggest that TRAs are not necessarily more prone than same race adoptees or nonadoptees to
emotional or behavioral problems, low self esteem, or maladjustments (Lee 4). During a twenty year
follow up on Chinese children adopted transracially to Britain, the researchers concluded that adoptees
and nonadoptees developed self esteem and social adjustment on the same level (Lee 4). A study in
1977 that interviewed transracially adopting parents throughout the United States found their black
children emotionally healthy (Morrison 181). A second concern for the psychological and social
effects of TRA considers whether a transracially adopted child adjusts well into a racially different
environment. According to a 1983 study, racial differences do not inhibit transracial adoptees from
developing typical relationships any less than inracial adoptees (Morrison 182). Furthermore, racial
differences may strengthen the parent child relationship, as it reinforces that the family s foundation is
based on bonds of relationship, not...biology (Morrison 188). Studies have indicated the healthy racial
identities, the healthy personal identities, and the relationship enabling of racial differences as proof of
psychological and social benefits of transracial

The History of Nana Rao Park, Kanpur in India
Kanpur is a historical city and is believed to have been founded by members of the Chandela dynasty

The Effects Of Physical Abuse On Mental Illness
Today, a colossal four hundred and fifty million (and growing) people in the world suffer from some
form of mental illness in the world, however, only around one third of them seek any form of help
(who.int World Health Report). This number was probably much lower in 1904, when this story was
written, but I imagine it was also much more shameful and frightening to admit that you had a
problem and needed help with all of the closer knit neighborhoods and insane asylums that have
closed down over the last hundred years. While I read Paul s case, I thought of a number of things,
history of physical abuse or trauma that might have made him shy away from physical contact, drug
use (even one prescribed for a chronic illness or disease,) and that even a terminal illness had made
him misanthropic. Nevertheless, I always came back to mental illness. The few sentences that
solidified my belief were: I don t really believe that smile of his comes altogether from insolence;
there s something sort of haunted about it. The boy is not strong for one Thing. There is something
wrong with the fellow (Paul s Case, Willa Cather). Paul had dramatic changes in mood from one place
to another, anywhere art related or the finer things in life created an intoxicating, manic state; the
unremarkable had the opposite effect, he became disdainful and lethargic. Paul s delusions of
grandeur, his dramatic mood and personality changes from manic to depressive, and his disposition

Examples Of Overcoming Strengths In Life
The struggle you re in today is developing the strength you need for tomorrow Robert Tew. Success is
getting to a good place in life, despite past obstacles. We all have a chance to be successful even
though there are hardships that we may experience along the way. In the book, A Child Called It, the
Netflix TV series Shameless, and the biopic All Eyez on Me each depict the lives of individuals who
overcome obstacles in life. My favorite works of art, feature characters that have struggled to
overcome obstacles in order to gain success.
My favorite book, A Child Called It, is about a boy who was physically, verbally and mentally abused
by his mother. David s mother struggles to treat her son with love, and respect. First, David was
physically abused by his mom. For example, David s mother would beat him, and make him eat his
brothers feces. As a child, David felt worthless, and he wanted his mother s love, but instead he was
beaten and threatened as if he was less than human. Next, David endured verbal abuse from his
mother; throughout the book there are many instances were David s mother would curse, and call him
terrible names. Lastly, David had to deal with psychological torture from his mother. David suffered
from the emotional scars that his mother left behind. He never felt what it was like to be loved by a
parent, David only knew what it was like to be hurt by one. The mental abuse that David endured will
forever impact his life, but his situation made him a stronger person. David has turned the abuse he
experienced as a child in books to share his story.
Shameless, my favorite TV series, is filmed on the Southside of Chicago. It features a dysfunctional
family with everyday struggles, such as problems with friendships, and financially. First, Shameless
demonstrates the complexity of relationships. For example, one of the main characters Fiona has had
many boyfriends. She hasn t found the right man yet, but from what she has experienced with men she
has grown mentally through the series. Each character in Shameless has been through there fair share
of tests with friendships and relationships. But, the characters find a way to overcome their issue.

Refugees And Asylum Of Refugees
Hundreds of thousands of people every year are forced to leave their homes. Refugees are defined as
people who have to leave their homes in order to survive and be safe. Natural disasters and the folly of
man cause masses of people to flee their native countries into neighboring territories to wait until it is
safe to go back home or to relocate for good. A refugee refers to a person or people who, outside their
country of origin, are unable to save themselves from their country or are unable to return there for
fear of persecution (Jastram, 2001). What makes a refugee a refugee? Who deserves refugee status? A
common misconception is that refugees and asylum seekers are the same things. The right to seek
asylum was granted to people by the 1951 Geneva Convention. The 1967 Protocol expanded the
notion of refugee displacement from just Europe to the rest of the world following World War II
(Wettergren, 2014. 566). The terms are very different. An Asylum Seeker is defined as a person who
has left their country and has applied for recognition as a refugee in another country but is still waiting
for the decision on their application (Refugee 2011). When people are forced to leave their own
countries and immigrant to another one, they are considered asylum seekers until their requests for
refugee status has been accepted. After their application is accepted, they are officially recognized as a
refugee. The right to determine whether or not a person is a refugee is not reserved

Rail Devaluation Definition
Labor all costs for railway staff salaries, pensions, and benefits such as medical insurance.
Energy costs of electricity and diesel fuel. For freight and passenger entities, most energy costs are
associated with traction, but some costs may include electricity for facilities. Some railways classify
diesel fuel as materials and electricity as services .
Materials costs of track materials such as rails, sleepers, and ballast, spare parts, and other
consumables for rail operations and maintenance (but not for capital investments).
Services all externally purchased services such as maintenance on rolling stock and infrastructure,
computer support, and passenger train catering.
Rental payments for use of any asset or facility; typically, this includes lease payments for rolling
stock, which can be substantial. Also, railways pay rental per diem when they interchange traffic and
use neighboring railways rolling stock. Often, per diem payments and receipts balance, so the net
effect is insignificant. But ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

expansion, railroads need to restate resources quality and deterioration rates, which will be not exactly

Relative extents of these six expense gatherings may change, contingent upon the kind of
administrations railroads give. For instance, the offer of work expenses for traveler administrations is
higher than for cargo administrations. A higher offer of administrations may be exchanged off for
lower shares of work and materials. On the off chance that low deterioration reflects restricted
speculation, costs for materials may rise in light of the fact that more established resources are all the

Jennifer Kahn s Stripped For Parts By Jennifer Kahn
What happens to our organs once we die? For many people nothing will happen, they will be buried
with all their organs intact and decomposing. However, for some, the end of their life will not be the
end of their organs. After death their organs will be harvested and used in transplants to save lives. But
what do we know about what happens to these individuals who have chosen to have their organs
donated? This is the topic of Jennifer Kahn s essay, titled Stripped for Parts . In her essay Kahn goes
behind the scenes to discover the somewhat morbid and strange process of removing another s organs.
Within this paper I will be discussing Kahn s purpose for writing her essay, what makes the essay

such a hard to sell point Kahn made sure to utilize the three rhetorical appeals, ethos, pathos, and

Personal Statement For The Support Group
Introduction For the support group that I led we planned on having it be focused around testimonies. I
wanted for us each to be able to get to know one another on a deeper level than we had, specifically
spiritually. I thought that doing five minute testimonies was a good way to be able to get to know one
another better while still not making everyone divulge all of their life to people they are still getting to
know and learning to trust. With the testimonies theme, I wanted my icebreaker to lead into the
importance of listening to our client s stories and using our story as a platform for Christ. For my
ending activity I wanted to lead into next support groups topic which we had decided would be about
our current walk with the Lord.
Group goals
At our first support group we decided that our goals would stay the same each week. Our primary goal
was to practice group facilitation and group participation. Our sub goals were to support one another
and get to know one another. We began our first support group with not really supporting one another
because there was no need for it; however, the second support group we supported one another as we
shared about our families. The third support group also got deeper in supporting one another as we
talked about our high school experiences. The fourth group I felt that we did not exercise the sub goal
to support one another because it was more educational than supportive.

The Watsons Go To Birmingham Byron Bully
Byron was one of the main characters in the book The Watsons Go To Birmingham 1963. At the
beginning of the book he was a Bully, he was self centered, and he was irresponsible. But towards the
end of the book, his personality started to change. He was a supportive, patient, and protective brother
to both Kenny and Joetta.
At the beginning of the book, he was a bully. He beat up Larry Dunn. He was the King of Clark but
unfortunately, Byron was the god. He beat up Larry Dunn for stealing Kenny s glove. Maybe Larry
Dunn stole Kenny s gloves because he was cold or maybe he didn t have enough money to buy gloves,
so his hands would be freezing. He also killed a mourning dove by hitting it with a Swedish creme
cookie. But after he killed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was more of a very supportive brother. When Kenny was depressed Byron slept with him and told
him that it was okay and everything was going to be fine. When Byron hears that Joetta s church got
bombed he goes running out the door. Later Kenny saw him crying at the church and calling for
Joetta. He was also patient. When Kenny was crying in the bathroom he let him cry on his lap. In the
story, they say that Kenny cried more than when Joetta drooled all over Kenny s pants. He also looked
behind the couch once in a while to see if Kenny was okay. He also took time to play basketball with
him and make all his friends be nice to him. He was also very protective. He told Kenny not to go to
Collier s landing or the wool pool. But Kenny did anyways. Kenny started drowning and Byron went
to go and save him and gave Kenny kisses on the forehead. Byron was the one who finally got Kenny
to come out of hiding. Byron got to talk to Kenny about the bombing and Byron convinced Kenny that
there was nothing to be ashamed

Essay On Moksha And Bhagavad Gita
Moksha and Bhagavad Gita
As we all know, the Bhagavad Gita is a narrative framework of dialogues between Lord
Krishna and His disciple Warrior Arjuna. There are 18 chapters with 700 verses in it. This
book has been revered by some senior executives like president Obama and is often gifted
to top leaders of the world by us Indians. This reading has been compared with the best of
management and well being books and we Indians pride ourselves as being the land of
the Gita. Yours Truly has been reading the Bhagavad Gita since many years as suggested by
my initial Guru, a blessed soul helped me to understand these divine dialogues.

How I understood it is :
Here during the bright half of the lunar month means, in the period of Shukla Paksha
(bright lunar fortnight or waxing moon ) and during the northern movement of the sun means,
the transition of the Sun into the zodiac sign of Capricorn or makara to starts its six month
journey northward. This period is also known as Uttrayana. In our hindu religion we celebrate
this event as Makara Sankranti, celebrated on 14 January every year however precession of the
Earth s axis or ayanamsa may causes Makar Sankranti to move over the ages.
I tried to explain both verses in very simple manner with my inherent limitations ,
Now as per these verses lets us assumes only two conditions i.e.,
Shukla paksha and Uttaryana and eliminating rest of the conditions then there are only 76
days (Approx) in a year where one can attain moksha. So Moksha is decided by the period
of those days instead of deeds of a person or universal law is designed in that manner

The Absolute Monarchy, The Baroque, Baroque And The...
The absolute monarchy, the Baroque style and the Scientific Revolution were very critical movements
during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The similarity and difference of these three movements
marked the beginning of early modern Europe and their interaction with each other made a huge
influence on political and social reform in European countries.
The one thing common in the absolute monarchy, the Baroque style and the Scientific Revolution was
that they all stood for the end of the Middle Ages. The absolute monarchy started a new regime with
the centralized power and the King of supreme. The Baroque period generated a new form of art to
worship the Church and the absolute authority. The Scientific Revolution led to a new era with a
different world view and the development of rationality. However, these three movements built on one
another and impacted the society in different directions, which will be discussed in the following.
The absolute monarchy was a political system reform in order to deal with social turmoil. It was
developing across Europe during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Around the middle of the
seventeenth century, France experienced a religious strife that the various Parlements and the nobility
started the revolution against the monarch. The Parlements and the nobility asked for the right to claim
the power and weaken the King s regime. The nobility threw France into turmoil by pillaging and
affrighting the innocent people. Under

Taking a Look at Poliomyelitis
Polio which may also be called poliomyelitis is a viral disease that can be spread or transmitted from
individual to individual mainly through the fecal oral route. The word polio is of Greek origin polios
meaning grey and myelos meaning marrow which refers to the grey particle of the spinal cord. It is
noted that about 90% of polio infections are asymptomatic but affected patients can show an amount
of if the virus enters their blood circulation. In rare cases, the virus can enter the central nervous
system which could lead to the destruction of some motor neurons which automatically causes muscle
weakness and possible flaccid paralysis. Polio may occur in three different forms: Spinal polio: this is
the most commonly noted form of polio characterized by paralysis most often involves the lower
limbs (legs). Bulbar polio: this kind of polio could be very severe and can lead to muscle weakness
(muscles innervated by the cranial nerves). Bulbospinal polio: this is the combination of spinal and
bulbar paralysis. HISTORY Polio was first discovered as a coition by Jakob Heine in 1840. The virus
known to cause this disease or infection is the POLIOVIRUS which was first noticed in 1908 by Karl
Landsteiner. Major polio epidemics started to appear in the late 19th century in Europe. Polio soon
became one of the most occurring childhood diseases in the 20th century. Proper hygiene and
sanitation decreased the prevalence of this disease in young children which are likely to

Cardiovascular Disease In Women Essay
Introduction The topic I will explore is heart disease in women. The question, what do healthcare
providers need to know about cardiovascular disease in women and how their symptoms and
presentation differ from men will be discussed. Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death in
women and men in the Western world. Nearly 1 million cardiovascular related deaths a year are
women. Many women s risk factors go unrecognized and untreated by their primary care physician
(Pregler et al., 2009). According to FamilyDoctor.org, American women are 4 to 6 times more likely
to die of heart disease that of breast cancer (2009). In generally men have an earlier onset of heart
disease than to women but have a higher survival rate from heart ... Show more content on

Current Evidence Based Status
Crimmins, Hayward, Ueda Saito and Kim in there journal article give statistical data on heart disease
and death in both women and men (2008). This article states 37 percent of men and 27 percent of
women over the age 65 report having a heart condition (Crimmins et al., 2008). Crimmins research
addresses the many differences in men with coronary artery disease compared to women with
coronary artery disease. The study noted that men have a higher mortality rate from heart disease than
do women (Crimmins et al., 2008). This article also notes that 40 50 percent of postmenopausal
women will develop heart disease (Crimmins et al., 2008). Crimmins and colleges noted men develop
heart disease 5 to 10 years earlier in life than do women ( 2008). Evidence suggests that women who
are hospitalized for cardiovascular issues are less likely to receive certain types of drugs and
diagnostic and treatment procedures (Crimmins et al., 2008). Low socio economic status and poor
educational levels also have a marked effect on men and women s knowledge of cardiovascular
disease and the timing of when they seek treatment (Hemingway, 2007). Crimmins and colleges in
their study results noted, on average, the onset for heart disease in men is around 50 to 70 years of age
and 73 years of age for women (Crimmins et al., 2008). There is also marked evidence that many
women s symptoms go

There is much debate regarding the necessity and safety of childhood vaccinations. The Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends a series of vaccinations that include 26 doses of
various vaccinations before age 6. Each state regulates and enforces the requirements for childhood
vaccinations in the United State. Some parents believe that vaccinations can be harmful and want the
right to choose to raise their child without immunizations. Since effective widespread immunizations
have been accomplished, incidences of diseases have been significantly reduced. These diseases
include smallpox, diphtheria, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My viewpoint for childhood inoculations supports inoculations because scientific history of vaccine
success, current statistics of morbidity rates, and research on vaccine safety. Documentation of the
history of Jenner s achievement with the vaccine to prevent smallpox provides information for
vaccination success. (Riedel, 2005) The comparison of the annual morbidity rate of the twentieth
century and the morbidity rate of 2000, shows a dramatic decrease. (Malone Hinman, n.d.) These
numbers demonstrate the success of childhood immunizations with improved survival rate in the
United States. (Malone Hinman, n.d.) Extensive research has been conducted to determine the safety
of vaccinations. Thimerosal is accused of possibly causing autism. The CDC has concluded that the
exposure to ethylmercury from thimerosal containing immunizations during pregnancy or as a young
child, was not associated with any of the ASD (autism) outcomes. (Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, 2011)

Reflection On Family Relationship
In this skills session my client brought her relationship with her mother and her feelings about that
relationship. She brought feelings of sadness hurt upset and grief . She states early in the session I m
constantly searching for some sort of love and affection from her . She describes feeling neglected and
disregarded by her mother and the rest of her family. She admits that these feelings have stretched into
the rest of her life and have left her feeling unworthy not good enough and like she doesn t matter .
She states that she feels not worthy of affection or care or regard . My client was questioning why her
mother behaves the way she does towards her. She finds her mother s behaviour difficult to understand
and feels she doesn t understand where it s coming from . During the session my client describes her
mother s behaviour in a particular scenario when she felt her mother behaved differently when she had
an audience to play to. My client described feeling ganged up on by her mother, who was backed up
by her visiting relatives. It is clear my client wants a relationship with her mother and states this
clearly when asked. She is seeking answers what is going on , what is going on with this attitude? My
client states that she has suffered with feelings of being unworthy for most of her life and suffered a
nervous breakdown two years ago after which she sought help from counselling and her GP.
Considering what I have outlined above it would appear that my client s feelings of being unworthy
and of not being good enough arise from feeling that she doesn t matter to, or is disregarded by her
mother and other family members. It would appear that my client s evaluation of her self worth or self
esteem has been affected by her close family relationships. Carl Rogers (1959, p200 p223) describes
the development of the self concept (how an individual perceives themselves) and how this self
concept is heavily influenced by the conditions of self worth set out by others. Conditions of worth are
constraints or preconditions, which an individual perceives are placed upon them by individuals
external to them. The individual believes that these preconditions must be satisfied or

Nymph And Satyr Carousing
The Nymph and Satyr Carousing is a terracotta sculpture, sculpted by Claude Michel who is called
Clodion. Clodion lived from his birth in Nancy, France 1738 to his death in Paris, France 1814. The
sculpture, sculpted in Paris, France in ca.1780 90, created during the Rococo period of art in Europe .
The Nymph is depicted as this curvy, youthful woman and the Satyr as a strong, young man. Both the
Nymph and the Satyr wear expressions of happiness on their faces as they enjoy a drink. The Nymph
and Satyr Carousing uses various textures, angled lighting and a deliberate composition to promote the
beauty of the natural body. The various textures of the sculpture promote the beauty of the natural
body because it emphasizes its beauty and flaws. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Nymph is arranged to be sitting slightly contrapposto on the Satyr s leg and the Satyr is also
seated in a contrapposto position as well. The contrapposto position provides a naturalistic positioning
of the bodies. They are both seated on a rock where the Satyr is seated on a cloth and there is a
tambourine and grapes at the feet of the Nymph, (less detailed than the two bodies). Both the Satyr
and the Nymph have one leg raised, and the other leg positioned diagonally towards the rock,
emphasizing the similarity between the two figures and also the difference as well. The focus of the
piece is directed towards the Nymph s body and their joyous expressions, due to how the body is
positioned, the light illuminates the Nymph s body and both of their faces. This careful but deliberate
composition of the positions of the body, the direction of the light and the attention to detail focused
on the body, promotes the beauty of the natural body because each of the elements work towards
making the piece appear more natural and celebratory of not only the merriment of drinking, but also
the merriment of the beauty of the human body. The natural pose of the Nymph and Satyr, the light
showing both the perfection and imperfections and imperfection of the body, and

The Egg Of The Domestic Chicken Several physiological, biochemical, nutritional, structural and morphological studies have been carried on avian eggs, and most of these have utilized the egg of the domestic chicken. (1) Due to its availability and commercial importance as a nutritious food for human consumption, avian eggs can feasibly be studied in vitro and in vivo. Egg proteins are nutritionally complete with a great balance of essential amino acids, which are demanded to build and to repair the cells in muscles and other body organs. (2) Moreover, the egg contains high quantity of nutrients such as fatty acid, minerals like iron, calcium phosphorus, zinc, and vitamins A, B2, B6, B12, D, E, and K. (3) In addition to its excellent nutritional value, egg proteins have unique biological activities. It is well known that egg proteins are a source of biologically active peptides. Many types of research are aiming to determine biological functions of peptides in egg proteins.(4) Those peptides are inactive within the sequence of parent proteins and can be delivered during gastrointestinal digestion leading to exerting their biological antioxidant, anti hypertensive, antimicrobial, and anticancer activities. • 3. The And Ethnic Groups Of Nigeria Final Paper Nigeria Tara Domino Robinson SOC 308 Racial Ethnic Groups Professor Staccy Lampkin March 22, 2015 Nigeria For my final project, I chose to research (Africa) Nigeria. Nigeria, Africa s most populous country, is composed of more than 250 ethnic groups; the most populous and politically influential are: Hausa and the Fulani 29%, Yoruba 21%, Igbo (Ibo) 18%, Ijaw 10%, Kanuri 4%, Ibibio 3.5%, and Tiv 2.5%. British influence and control over what would become Nigeria and Africa s most populous country grew through the 19th century. A series of constitutions after World War II granted Nigeria greater autonomy. After independence in 1960, politics were marked by coups and mostly military rule, until the death of a military head of state in 1998 allowed for a political transition (CIA, 2012). Nigeria s culture reflects and represents all of the multiple ethnic groups. In Nigeria there are over 521 languages and over 250 ethnic groups and dialects. Out of all the groups, there are four really large groups. The four groups are Hausa and Fulani predominant from the north, Igbo predominant from the southeast and Yoruba predominant from the southwest (en.wikipedia.org). Nigeria, a country where they did not practice a particular religion. They believe in a God called Chineke or Chukwu. This God was said that the creator was approached through many different deities and spirits from objects, nature or people. The increase of security of lives and property is ... The Sui, Sang, Tang Dynasties Jeff Woodard HS150D: World Civilizations Assignment 6_06 September 11th 2014 The Sui Dynasty, started from 581 and ended in 618, the Sui Dynasty lasted for only 38 years and had only three emperors. With a tyrannical second emperor Emperor Yang, this dynasty was often compared to the Qin Dynasty (221 BC 206 BC). However, the whole nation was reunified and certain economic and political advances were achieved in the period. At the end of the Northern and Southern Dynasties (386 589), the whole nation had undergone a long period of division. People who had endured sufferings of war were longing for the unification but neither the Northern Dynasties nor Southern Dynasties realized this goal. In Northern Zhou (557 ... • 5. Atlantis Research Paper Over the years, there have been plenty of islands that have disappeared. However, one island has has been given a ton of attention. This island is called Atlantis and was referenced in the greek philosopher Plato s work. The people that inhabited the Atlantis were supposed to be very advanced compared to other civilizations. History.com says, Plato (through the character Critias in his dialogues) describes Atlantis as an island larger than Libya and Asia Minor put together, located in the Atlantic just beyond the Pillars of Hercules generally assumed to mean the Strait of Gibraltar. The island eventually sank into the sea due to earthquakes and flooding. Many people thought Plato s book was just a myth until in a scholar claimed it might ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One theory is that Atlantis was a mid atlantic island that sunk into the ocean. This is very plausible because of the fact that this part of ocean is only a few hundred feet deep. This means that an earthquake could have very well weakened the foundation of the island. Then, if it did flood to like Plato said then it could have easily sunk into the sea floor. This is what Palto explains in his book but there also could have been many other ways that the island was destroyed, from tsunamis to volcanos. Next, another theory is that Atlantis was swallowed by the bermuda triangle. This myth could also very well be true because there are what looks like man made walls and streets off the coast of Bimini, although scientist evaluate the structures and found them to be natural rock formation. Finally, the last theory is that Atlantis was Antarctica. History.com explains According to Hapgood, around 12,000 years ago the Earth s crust shifted, displacing the continent that became Antarctica from a location much further north than it is today. This more temperate continent was home to an advanced civilization, but the sudden shift to its current frigid location doomed the civilization s inhabitants the Atlanteans and their magnificent city was buried under layers of ice. Hapgood s theory surfaced before the scientific world gained a full understanding of plate tectonics, which largely relegated his shifting crust idea to the fringes of Atlantean beliefs. This explains that explorers that are looking for atlantis may truly be in the wrong place, instead of looking through the sea they should be digging through ice. There are many plausible theories out there but all of them are either missing evidence or need more investigation. Therefore there are plenty of theros that explain Atlantis ... Medical treatments can also include oral medication for helping the mechanism behind vitiligo internally. Topical corticosteroids are most often used when initially diagnosed with vitiligo. The most common topical treatments are Tacrolimus and Pimecrolimus in a potency of 0.10% and 0.03% respectively. The photodynamic qualities of the PUVA light therapy utilize nonhazardous and light sensitive compounds, which are carefully exposed to the UVA light. The mixture of both the nonhazardous compound and the light form a toxic mixture that is turn breaks down the malignant cells of the skin. When psoralens are combined with the UVA light, they are highly effective at clearing depigmented skin patches formed from vitiligo. This is done by increasing the reactivity of the melanocytes, which reside directly under the skin layers of the white pigmented patches to the UVA light20. Melanocyte cells have a certain property built into their cells mechanism, which can detect UV light occurrence and trigger its functional properties to bring back natural skin color and pigment on a person. The natural skin tone in turn can efficiently protect against the destructive properties of UV light. The initial dosage of the psoralen is determined by the spread of patches across a person s body and overall severity of the case. Progressively with more treatments, the dosage of psoralen also increases, adding more and more sensitivity properties to the melanocyte cells. The ultraviolet light therapy, PUVA is currently the most effective at treating vitiligo21. • 9. Where Atoms Come From We Are All Star Stuff Chapter Four: Where Atoms Come From: We Are All Star Stuff 1. How are elements with atomic numbers greater than iron s atomic number formed? (1 mark) Elements with atomic numbers greater than iron s atomic number form during the formation of a supernovae, also known as a mini bang. The process begins when a massive star has depleted its supply of magnesium and silicon, and only has a bare iron ore remaining. Now, the star no longer has the energy to maintain its immense mass against the force of gravity, and as a result, the entire star collapses. This process fuses together electrons and protons in the core, which forms neutrons. After neutrons build up in the ore, the star recoils in the form of an explosion. During the explosion, the neutrons attach to iron atoms in the ore, and begin converting back to protons and electrons. As a result, iron atoms are able to become different elements with greater atomic numbers. 2. Explain how Patterson determined the age of the Earth (4.55 billion years old)? At this point, they will not have enough energy to sustain the inner pull of gravity, and the star will collapse. During this process, electrons and protons will combine to form neutrons in the ore. When the ore is filled with neutrons, a rebound will occur, and everything will explode outwards, during which the neutrons will surround the iron atoms and will separate into protons and electrons. • 11. Analysis of Dostoevsky´s Crime and Punishment Essay example In Dostoevsky s Crime and Punishment, the murder of the pawnbroker bears little significance when compared to the punishment that Raskolnikov endures. The murder is the direct result of Raskolnikov s Ubermensch theory. Though it takes a while for Raskolnikov to realize the profound mistake in his theory and in his logic, his tedious yet prolific journey eventually leads him to redemption. Suffering, guilt and societal alienation prompt Raskolnikov to reject his Ubermensch theory and ultimately achieve redemption. Through Raskolnikov s character, Dostoevsky reveals that the psychological punishment inflicted by an unethical action is more effective in leading to self realization than any physical punishment. Even when Porfiry suggests that the criminal who murdered the pawnbroker may run away but, psychologically he won t escape (287), Raskolnikov becomes infuriated and accuses Porfiry of trying to scare him. However, Raskolnikov fails to understand the meaning behind Porfiry s words perhaps because he still chooses not to rely on his conscience and confess to the crime. While the superiority complex sets him apart from the society in the beginning, his piercing conscience distances him from people later on in the novel. He refuses to speak to Razumuikhin or to his family. It only before he goes to jail, that he decides to see his mother. Even when he does so, he is relieved that Dunya is not in the room. He later admits to Dunya that he doesn t, even remember why [I] even went to meet his mother. His conscience does not allow him to face his loved ones and eventually, he tries to isolate himself from society. • 12. Why Satire Matters In The Princess Bride By William Goldman Why satire matters in The Princess Bride The Princess Bride by William Goldman is a satirical story full of irony, in which the author creates a humorous and enjoyable read by having an abundance of character parodies. In the book The Princess Bride, the author satirizes fairytales and the characters through their appearance and actions. In the novel, the author portrays his characters as unfitting to the story. Goldman presents the story as a fairytale but it is the very opposite, as he constantly ridicules his characters. As a result, Goldman constructs a captivating read. Furthermore, Goldman is also obsessed with fairy tales and believes in satirizing them. He often creates characters which illustrate a fairytale but in actuality they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Goldman s portrayals of the characters mock the analogy of traditional fairytale. Firstly, fairy tales present a story where two characters fall in love and have a happy marriage after, however Goldman portrays the main character very satirically. Goldman instead of following the traditional fairy tale analogy of the main character living at the end, he instead decides to kill him not once but twice. Shorty after Westkey dies in the zoo of death he is revived by the Miracle Max, Fezzik cried, You re alive! , (Goldman 329) when Westley after being killed was brought back. While many may think of this as fairy tale story with the perfect ending, though Goldman was not satisfied. So, after Westley and Buttercup successfully escape, Westley and everybody again disappear this time with no clear ending whether Westley or others survived or died. In this scenario Goldman satrically ridicules the idea of a fairy tale and having a happy ending as he very much disagrees with happy endings . In the evidence above it is very evident that Goldmans enjoys mocking fairy tales with the use of satire. J.R.R Tolkien s The Hobbit or There and Back Again implements many forms of heroism; whether it be Bilbo, Bard, Gandalf, or even Thorin and his dwarves. Relating to this, there is no one hero per se but rather multiple; the heroes face both internal and external challenges. This essay will argue that the heroes of The Hobbit are Bilbo, Gandalf, Bard and Thorin respectively, in addition, this essay will also analyse the first stage of the hero s journey structure according to Joseph Campbell regarding Bilbo. Just as Campbell notes, the figure encounters a series of dangers, in this case being the trolls, the goblins, escaping from Gollum and going into Smaug s lair. With assistance from Gandalf the group is saved from the goblins; however, the dwarves and Bilbo are separated. The interaction between Gollum and Bilbo demonstrates a quality trait exhibited by a hero and, as a result, Bilbo s actions are seen to outweigh his individual characteristics. Simultaneously, Bilbo displays wisdom in answering Gollum s riddles and in turn exhibits cunning; Bilbo seeing what had happened and having nothing better to ask stuck to his question (74). In the same way, Bilbo s adventure is seen according to Pearce as a pilgrimage of grace in which he grows up (3). Therefore, Bilbo s main goal of his adventure according to Pearce is to eliminate evil amongst themselves (3); thus, identifying an internal quest. Particularly after Smaug s death, the corruption of the gold leads the dwarf leader Thorin Oakenshield to suffer from dragon sickness; the obsessive possessiveness of dragons (Pearce 83). The actions of Bilbo and internal qualities such as wisdom and cunning thus concludes that he is a hero in The Hobbit, however, other characters exhibit heroic qualities. • 16. The Crucible Revenge Analysis Who would ve ever thought that a whole town would want revenge on everyone? In Arthur Miller s The Crucible, there are many instances where revenge comes into play. The most important plots of revenge are when the character, Abigail, wants revenge on someone. Some of the main plots are seen when she tries to plot revenge on Elizabeth but it is also shown when she uses her anger to control the girls and when she steals her uncle s money in the end of the play. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller shows that many people in the town want revenge, but in a negative way. Throughout the play revenge is negatively shown, it is very apparent in Act II when Abigail shows revenge towards Elizabeth. One of the most important plots of revenge on Elizabeth is when she made it seem like Elizabeth had stabbed her. Abigail were stabbed tonight; a needle were found stuck in her belly (Miller 860). Transracial Adoption Research Paper When a white Minnesotan couple adopted their African American child in 1948, they opened the door to a social debate that would span decades (Hawkins Leon 1239). This first act of transracial adoption [TRA] instigated conversation on whether agencies should limit child placement to same race matches or extend placement to interracial matches. It questioned the appropriateness of crossing racial lines. Today, TRA occurs more often than it did in the 20th century. This frequency calls to attention a need for conclusion of the dispute. Perhaps the main concern for transracial adoptees concerning their racial situation involves their sense of identity, divided between racial and personal (Deberry 2377). One study worth mention concerning racial identity used the Clark and Clark Doll Test, which features two dolls with dark and light skin, and found only a seven percent difference between the black identification of transracial black adoptees to inracial black adoptees (Morrison 182). Regarding personal identities, outcome studies suggest that TRAs are not necessarily more prone than same race adoptees or nonadoptees to emotional or behavioral problems, low self esteem, or maladjustments (Lee 4). During a twenty year follow up on Chinese children adopted transracially to Britain, the researchers concluded that adoptees and nonadoptees developed self esteem and social adjustment on the same level (Lee 4). A study in 1977 that interviewed transracially adopting parents throughout the United States found their black children emotionally healthy (Morrison 181). A second concern for the psychological and social effects of TRA considers whether a transracially adopted child adjusts well into a racially different environment. According to a 1983 study, racial differences do not inhibit transracial adoptees from developing typical relationships any less than inracial adoptees (Morrison 182). In the book, A Child Called It, the Netflix TV series Shameless, and the biopic All Eyez on Me each depict the lives of individuals who overcome obstacles in life. My favorite works of art, feature characters that have struggled to overcome obstacles in order to gain success. My favorite book, A Child Called It, is about a boy who was physically, verbally and mentally abused by his mother. David s mother struggles to treat her son with love, and respect. First, David was physically abused by his mom. For example, David s mother would beat him, and make him eat his brothers feces. As a child, David felt worthless, and he wanted his mother s love, but instead he was beaten and threatened as if he was less than human. Next, David endured verbal abuse from his mother; throughout the book there are many instances were David s mother would curse, and call him terrible names. Lastly, David had to deal with psychological torture from his mother. David suffered from the emotional scars that his mother left behind. He never felt what it was like to be loved by a parent, David only knew what it was like to be hurt by one. The mental abuse that David endured will forever impact his life, but his situation made him a stronger person. David has turned the abuse he experienced as a child in books to share his story. Shameless, my favorite TV series, is filmed on the Southside of Chicago. It features a dysfunctional family with everyday struggles, such as problems with friendships, and financially. Refugees are defined as people who have to leave their homes in order to survive and be safe. Natural disasters and the folly of man cause masses of people to flee their native countries into neighboring territories to wait until it is safe to go back home or to relocate for good. A refugee refers to a person or people who, outside their country of origin, are unable to save themselves from their country or are unable to return there for fear of persecution (Jastram, 2001). What makes a refugee a refugee? Who deserves refugee status? A common misconception is that refugees and asylum seekers are the same things. The right to seek asylum was granted to people by the 1951 Geneva Convention. The 1967 Protocol expanded the notion of refugee displacement from just Europe to the rest of the world following World War II (Wettergren, 2014. 566). The terms are very different. An Asylum Seeker is defined as a person who has left their country and has applied for recognition as a refugee in another country but is still waiting for the decision on their application (Refugee 2011). When people are forced to leave their own countries and immigrant to another one, they are considered asylum seekers until their requests for refugee status has been accepted. The purpose of the regulation was to keep peace with RAR because the city s final desire was to deliver a good show to the public but at the same time, it wanted to maintain the individual rights of the community and the residences close to the bandshell. The record indicates that inadequate sound amplification has had an adverse affect on the ability of some audiences to hear and enjoy performances at the bandshell. That is why the city wished to sort out this problem. RAR performed at the bandshell from 1979 through 1986 and the city received multiple complaints about the noise on several occasions. So, this time, the city wanted to do the things right and wanted to get to an agreement between the interest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Jennifer Kahn s Stripped For Parts By Jennifer Kahn What happens to our organs once we die? For many people nothing will happen, they will be buried with all their organs intact and decomposing. However, for some, the end of their life will not be the end of their organs. After death their organs will be harvested and used in transplants to save lives. But what do we know about what happens to these individuals who have chosen to have their organs donated? This is the topic of Jennifer Kahn s essay, titled Stripped for Parts . In her essay Kahn goes behind the scenes to discover the somewhat morbid and strange process of removing another s organs. Within this paper I will be discussing Kahn s purpose for writing her essay, what makes the essay process writing, and why it is a multimodal essay. Kahn s purpose in writing this essay is to explore the ill mentioned side of organ transplants, organ removal. In the preface to the essay, Kahn talks a little of what drove her to write the essay, which she reveals to be an assignment to observe and write on the process of organ transplants. The article was supposed to praise how far we have come in the field of medicine in the last few centuries. Instead Kahn found the whole process to be strangely primitive in comparison to other modern, more streamlined procedures. To convince her audience of such a hard to sell point Kahn made sure to utilize the three rhetorical appeals, ethos, pathos, and logos. Kahn uses ethos (credibility) quite often, as she utilizes quotes by multiple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Van Gogh Major Accomplishments There were many great and famous artists in the world,, some of which weren t famous until they were dead and the only thing that remained of them was the artwork, Like my artist Van Gogh. Van Gogh was considered a very dark artist. Most of his work was quite depressing to look at so people didn t like his art until a later time when he started traveling more and started making bright pastel and colorful pieces. • 39. Personal Statement For The Support Group Introduction For the support group that I led we planned on having it be focused around testimonies. I wanted for us each to be able to get to know one another on a deeper level than we had, specifically spiritually. I thought that doing five minute testimonies was a good way to be able to get to know one another better while still not making everyone divulge all of their life to people they are still getting to know and learning to trust. With the testimonies theme, I wanted my icebreaker to lead into the importance of listening to our client s stories and using our story as a platform for Christ. For my ending activity I wanted to lead into next support groups topic which we had decided would be about our current walk with the Lord. Group goals At our first support group we decided that our goals would stay the same each week. Our primary goal was to practice group facilitation and group participation. Our sub goals were to support one another and get to know one another. We began our first support group with not really supporting one another because there was no need for it; however, the second support group we supported one another as we shared about our families. The third support group also got deeper in supporting one another as we talked about our high school experiences. The fourth group I felt that we did not exercise the sub goal to support one another because it was more educational than supportive. I was nervous going after we talked about stress because it ... • 43. The Absolute Monarchy, The Baroque, Baroque And The... The absolute monarchy, the Baroque style and the Scientific Revolution were very critical movements during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The similarity and difference of these three movements marked the beginning of early modern Europe and their interaction with each other made a huge influence on political and social reform in European countries. The one thing common in the absolute monarchy, the Baroque style and the Scientific Revolution was that they all stood for the end of the Middle Ages. The absolute monarchy started a new regime with the centralized power and the King of supreme. The Baroque period generated a new form of art to worship the Church and the absolute authority. The Scientific Revolution led to a new era with a different world view and the development of rationality. However, these three movements built on one another and impacted the society in different directions, which will be discussed in the following. The absolute monarchy was a political system reform in order to deal with social turmoil. It was developing across Europe during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Around the middle of the seventeenth century, France experienced a religious strife that the various Parlements and the nobility started the revolution against the monarch. The Parlements and the nobility asked for the right to claim the power and weaken the King s regime. The nobility threw France into turmoil by pillaging and affrighting the innocent people. Under ... Taking a Look at Poliomyelitis Polio which may also be called poliomyelitis is a viral disease that can be spread or transmitted from individual to individual mainly through the fecal oral route. The word polio is of Greek origin polios meaning grey and myelos meaning marrow which refers to the grey particle of the spinal cord. It is noted that about 90% of polio infections are asymptomatic but affected patients can show an amount of if the virus enters their blood circulation. In rare cases, the virus can enter the central nervous system which could lead to the destruction of some motor neurons which automatically causes muscle weakness and possible flaccid paralysis. Polio may occur in three different forms: Spinal polio: this is the most commonly noted form of polio characterized by paralysis most often involves the lower limbs (legs). Bulbar polio: this kind of polio could be very severe and can lead to muscle weakness (muscles innervated by the cranial nerves). Bulbospinal polio: this is the combination of spinal and bulbar paralysis. HISTORY Polio was first discovered as a coition by Jakob Heine in 1840. The virus known to cause this disease or infection is the POLIOVIRUS which was first noticed in 1908 by Karl Landsteiner. Major polio epidemics started to appear in the late 19th century in Europe. Crimmins research addresses the many differences in men with coronary artery disease compared to women with coronary artery disease. The study noted that men have a higher mortality rate from heart disease than do women (Crimmins et al., 2008). This article also notes that 40 50 percent of postmenopausal women will develop heart disease (Crimmins et al., 2008). Crimmins and colleges noted men develop heart disease 5 to 10 years earlier in life than do women ( 2008). Evidence suggests that women who are hospitalized for cardiovascular issues are less likely to receive certain types of drugs and diagnostic and treatment procedures (Crimmins et al., 2008). Low socio economic status and poor educational levels also have a marked effect on men and women s knowledge of cardiovascular disease and the timing of when they seek treatment (Hemingway, 2007). Crimmins and colleges in their study results noted, on average, the onset for heart disease in men is around 50 to 70 years of age and 73 years of age for women (Crimmins et al., 2008). She brought feelings of sadness hurt upset and grief . She states early in the session I m constantly searching for some sort of love and affection from her . She describes feeling neglected and disregarded by her mother and the rest of her family. She admits that these feelings have stretched into the rest of her life and have left her feeling unworthy not good enough and like she doesn t matter . She states that she feels not worthy of affection or care or regard . My client was questioning why her mother behaves the way she does towards her. She finds her mother s behaviour difficult to understand and feels she doesn t understand where it s coming from . During the session my client describes her mother s behaviour in a particular scenario when she felt her mother behaved differently when she had an audience to play to. My client described feeling ganged up on by her mother, who was backed up by her visiting relatives. It is clear my client wants a relationship with her mother and states this clearly when asked. She is seeking answers what is going on , what is going on with this attitude? My client states that she has suffered with feelings of being unworthy for most of her life and suffered a nervous breakdown two years ago after which she sought help from counselling and her GP. Considering what I have outlined above it would appear that my client s feelings of being unworthy and of not being good enough arise from feeling that she doesn t matter to, or is disregarded by her mother and other family members. It would appear that my client s evaluation of her self worth or self esteem has been affected by her close family relationships. Carl Rogers (1959, p200 p223) describes the development of the self concept (how an individual perceives themselves) and how this self concept is heavily influenced by the conditions of self worth set out by others.
