The short quizzes for each lesson in this section are not comprehensive and not very difficult.
Normally, only basic, superficial questions are asked. The general philosophy here is for the specter of
a quiz to always be hanging over the student where he knows he must quickly acquire a general
working knowledge of the subject but at the same time knows he will not be asked in depth or tricky
questions. It is hoped that this gentle, but persistent pressure, will encourage the student to keep

Discovery Morning Poem And How Do I Love Thee
The Three Poems Discovery, Morning Poem, and How Do I Love Thee are the poems my essay will
be about. The three poems have something in common, they are all about love in some way shape or
form. What will be talked about in these three poems is an allegory, simile, etc.. Which are very
important objects that help create and give detail in the poems. Each poem has is short but has so
much meaning to the very few words it has. The poem Discovery was written by Michael S, Harper.
In this poem he discusses how he is laying down with the one he loves in a dark room, he waits for her
to fall asleep and then he does, he then awakes to her staring at him with the light by the bed on. This
poem is very loving and caring with the description it has.

Chronic Low Back Pain (CLBP)
Chronic low back pain (cLBP) is a health condition that is defined as pain located in the posterior
aspect of the body between the 12th rib and the inferior gluteal folds, with or without radiating pain
(Dionne et al., 2008), which has continued at least three months and has caused pain on at least half
the days in the past six months (Deyo et al., 2014). Chronic low back pain is a globally prevalent
condition that affects many individuals. In fact, epidemiological studies have shown that 60 80% of
Westernized adults have experienced or will experience back pain at some point in their lives (Krismer
and van Tulder, 2007; Rubin, 2007). The universal estimates of the one year incidence of a first ever
episode of LBP was reported to range between

The Price Increase And Demand Model
Question 1 The dramatic price increase of garlic in China in 2009 can be explained by the supply and
demand model. Perfect competition is evident in the agricultural industry, as there are many producers
who act as price takers. In the previous year, low prices discouraged farmers from continuing to plant
garlic crops. Many farmers turned to growing produce that they believed would be more profitable
and hence, garlic supplies declined. The supply curve shifted to the left (S_1 to S_2 below), causing a
slight increase in the equilibrium price (P_1 to P_2) and large decrease in equilibrium quantity (Q_1
to Q_2) of garlic. In China, garlic has long been considered to have medicinal benefits. The swine flu
epidemic of 2009 caused tastes to shift towards garlic and significantly increased the quantity
demanded. The demand curve shifted to the right (D_1 to D_2), causing an increase in both the
equilibrium price (P_2 to P_3) and quantity (Q_2 to Q_3) of garlic. Since land set aside for garlic
crops had been halved in the previous year, farmers could not respond quickly to the price increase by
returning to garlic production. This meant that in the short term, the price elasticity of supply was
relatively inelastic, and so the outward shift in the demand curve increased equilibrium price
substantially more than quantity. Chinese investors stockpiled wholesale supplies in prediction that the
price would continue to rise. The supply curve shifted to the left (S_2 to S_3),

C Gattii Research Paper
There is a risk of C. gattii in tropical areas and the Pacific Northwest. There are many factors that
contribute to this risk. How it is transmitted, environmental causes, locations of infection, and
prevention. It is important to understand the risk before traveling so you don t become infected. To
learn more about this risk we will look at areas in which the fungi exists, who s susceptible, and how
to keep from getting sick. Cryptococcus gattii is a fungus that lives in the soil associated with certain
trees and causes the infection C. gattii Cryptococcus s. In mild climates, the fungus survives in soil
and grows in tree bark. Douglas firs carry the fungus. The fungus occurs in the top 15cm of the soil,
on trees, wood chips, mulch, and other natural reservoirs. Fungus spores are aerosolized through soil
disturbance. (https://www.emlab.com/s/sampling/env report 03 2012.html) The microscopic fungus C.
gattii can infect people after breathing it in from the environment. Cryptococcus s affects the lungs or

Science Of Greed
For this TED talk discuss I watched the first video which was called the Science of Greed by Paul K.
Piff. The central argument for this talk was revolved around the behavior of how people of wealth, the
people with power, or the people who thing they are better see themselves in conjunction with the rest
of the world. Although some of the points that were touched upon during the course of the video were
things that I have more or less known of still somehow managed to hit me and completely shock me.
For example, during the talk Paul K. Piff spoke of a research project that researchers and he had done
and the research involved a game of Monopoly however the game was fixed with one player having a
greater advantage over the other. The results of the study were that the players who had the ... Show

The elephant being that in our society we have become accustom to the presence of greed because
there is really no way to combat it. Within our country a top percentage of the population has a
majority of wealth and power and reserve it for themselves while everyone below them have to
squalor for some sort of change towards the pursuit of a better life. However it is just those at the top
who are the greediest people, it is everyone in fact because in our daily lives we in some shape or form
do thing and make decisions that have a greater effect on us rather than someone. A majority of the
time people put themselves and other second, it is almost a second nature to mankind. People have
always been in the presence of greed throughout their lives because it almost gives a purpose, meaning
that it ignites a fire within us that is fueled by the constant want for materialistic items as a way to
show we have power or are successful. Thus overall the greedier we are the more materials we will

reduce cost while maintaining brand quality (Haas, McGurk, and Mihas, A new world for brand
managers ). These business elements are important indicators that must be addressed by Procter
Gamble in order to maintain their market edge and competitiveness especially in an immensely
globalized economy and great competition in the area of consumer goods. The paper s objective is to
identify the various possible issues and challenges that can impact Procter Gamble s marketing

Belonging To A New Place
The meaning of belongings is feeling comfortable and happy in a particular group of people,
surroundings, situation or society. Belonging can be related to culture, language, background, hobbies,
religion, occasions, national dress or some particular activity. It is a well known fact that belonging to
a group can make an individual feel not only accepted, but more powerful that if they were on their
own. Let us discuss the belongings in two different situations. In first situation we will discuss
influence of belongings on us at a place familiar to us and then we will compare it by supposing a visit
of some strange place with different culture. When we live in our own country, we remained
supportive by our own culture, people with same language, religion, back ground, familiar food,
sports, dresses, hobbies and even almost same occasions to calibrate. We live with our friends,
neighbors, relatives and share happy and sad moments with them. We help each other and feel
comfortable as we know that in the event of any unlike situation we have our belonging in shape of
similar culture, norms, resources, friends to support us. Now let us discuss another situation. 3 years

Mehmed The Conqueror And The Ottoman Sultans
Introduction Mehmed the Conqueror and the Ottoman sultans who followed him desired Topkapi
Palace to convey the power, wealth, and religiousness of the Ottoman household. Unlike many other
works of art and architecture, Topkapi Palace was constantly expanding. An excellent example of this
is the Arabic inscription on The Imperial Gate in Topkapi Palace. The gate itself was constructed in
1478. The tughra below it belonged Sultan Abdulaziz, a nineteenth century Ottoman sultan.
Introduction to the Ottomans. In 1453, Mehmed the Conqueror, an Ottoman Turk, succeeded in
conquering Constantinople, the capital of the former Byzantine empire. In 1460, he decided to
commision a palace. By 1478, the palace was complete and was named Topkapi Palace. ... Show more

Topkapi palace displays the wealth of the ottoman household. Porcelain can be found in the palace.
Also there are jade colored plates in the palace, but for a very morbid reason: the sultans were always
in fear of getting assassinated, and they thought the plates would change color if the food was
poisonous. Inside the palace there also was the Topkapi dagger. The topkapi dagger was a dagger
made out of emerald. There was also the spoonmaker s diamond, which is one of the largest cut
diamonds in the world, according to Britannica Academic. Another example of the wealth of topkapi
palace is the size of it. Topkapi palace is 172 acres.
Through the size of topkapi palace it exuded power. However, it was not because of it s size implies to
Gulru Necipolgu, an expert on topkapi palace, but because of how hard it was to even catch a glipse of

The Discovery Of Non Euclidean Geometry

Math 451: Axiomatic Geometry
Research Paper
12/13/16
History of Hyperbolic Geometry The discovery of non Euclidean geometry is credited to nineteenth
century mathematicians Carl Friedrich Gauss, Nikolai Ivanovich Lobachevsky, and János Bolyai
because they are first to recognize that the negation of Euclid s Fifth Postulate as an axiom produced
another geometry that was as rich and solid as that of Euclidean geometry (Venema, 2012). However,
several concepts of Hyperbolic geometry were already known by that time, it just was not labeled as
Hyperbolic geometry (or non Euclidean geometry) because Hyperbolic geometry was not yet
discovered . Euclid s work was so distinguished that it was accepted as the standard so people did not
think it was possible for other geometries to exist. All in all, the discovery and growth of Hyperbolic
geometry first began with several mathematicians trying to prove that Euclid s Fifth Postulate could be
eliminated as an axiom.
Before the Recognition of Hyperbolic Geometry as a Geometry Geometry first originated as a way to
solve problems in architecture and navigation. A famous figure in geometry is Euclid. Around 300 BC,
he published a book, The Elements, which contained definitions, axioms, and postulates that would be
regarded as a standard of mathematical reasoning for the next two thousand years (Mueller, 1969).
Euclid basically gave the foundation of what is now called Euclidean geometry. However,

Techniques Used by Clarinet Players
Technique is very important for all musicians of all types, especially for Clarinet players. Many of the
techniques are vital for a great musician to understand. Things such as embouchure, vibrato and tone
effects are all things that are required by the musician. I will be investigating the embouchure and how
a correct one will substantially increase your prowess as a woodwind, particularly clarinet, player. The
clarinet is a woodwind instrument that has a single reed mouthpiece. Johann Christoph Denner
invented the clarinet in Germany around the turn of the 18th century by adding a register key to the
earlier Chalumea. Having a correct embouchure is vitally important to playing woodwind instruments.
Structure
1. Embouchure.
2. Different types of embouchures in different people.
3. Research into different kinds of embouchure and how other people do it.
4. Synthesis of why it is very important to have an good embouchure.
With the woodwinds, the sound is generated by a reed and not with the lips. The embouchure is
therefore based on sealing the area around the reed and the mouthpiece. This makes sure that there is
no air escaping from either side of the mouthpiece when the musician is blowing. A reed instrument
works by having the musician blowing a steady breath of air over the reed and through the
mouthpiece. The vibrations of the reed are what produce the sound that makes up the notes. The
harder or stronger the air is passing over the reed the higher the pitch of the

Descriptive Essay On The Day
On a late night, about 10:30. I make my bed and let my dog out to go to the bathroom. After letting her
out, I lay in bed hoping to have a good dream. I take off my glasses and turn off my lamp, and turn off
my wax burner because my mini poodle does not like the light that it emits, and she likes the moon
light. I am walking down the school hall, heading from the English classroom to the library. The hall
is empty with no one in sight. I m going to the library to go print out something for english but I am
unsure of what. There is an oval object against the wall on the right, it gives off the same effect as a
heat wave on top of a car. I turn to the orb, and look at it blankly. My fingers just an inch away, about
to touch it, then I wake up. I get ready for school, wake up at 5:40, play on my phone, get dressed, let
the dogs out, eat breakfast, brush teeth, and walk out the door. The day is boring as normal. I get to
English and remember that my new copy of my I am Famous is due. I ask the teacher if it is okay to
get it printed. After a moment of contemplating in her head, she just agrees. She replies in a rushed
way Okay, go quick. I walk down the hall and look down at my phone texting my friend. Ugh, school
is so stressful. Out of the corner of my eye I see something odd, when I look up there it is, the orb

Food Allergies Essay
It is common in the United States for people to have food allergies and it is increasing. The body s
negative reaction to a specific food protein is what is known to be a food allergy. The most common
food allergies are milk and dairy products, egg and egg products, fish and shellfish, wheat, soy and
soy products, and peanuts and tree nuts (Servsafe). Different food allergies develop in people at
different times in their lives depending on the allergy and the person themselves. Fish and shellfish
food allergies tend to not develop until adulthood. With fish approximately forty percent of people
who were in a study on food allergies said that they did not have their first fish allergic reaction until
they were an adult. With shellfish, about sixty percent of people had their first reaction when they
were adults. Everyone to some extent is allergic to a type of food, but fish and shellfish food allergies
are two of the most common and can possibly be the most dangerous out of all the food allergies. To

According to Christina L. Darwall, executive director of the Harvard Business School California
Research Center, Built to flip is an essential element of competing in the new economy, successful
businesses are necessarily to be short in time. (Palowski, 2000) In the 21st century, there is a rising
impatience within the economy. Investors are no longer interested in long term and sustaining
companies, but most of the businesses are aiming to do quickly and get acquired within a short period,
which are the Build to flip companies. (Collin, 2000; p. 1) Under the culture of entitlement, managers

need to go . (Thrift, 2000; p. 26) As well as the rapid growth of consumer demand, leads to the
massive expansion in customer service entitlements. (2014, Lecture 4; p. 8) This is an unquestionable
sign of a boom in decay. (Thrift, 2000; p. 26) In addition, impermanence is a feature in different
phenomenon, and everything will come to the stage of deterioration. (Zsolnai, 2014; p. 63) If it was
permanent in everything, we do not have to make choices, judgments, responsibilities and
entitlements. (2014, Lecture 9; p. 1) Yet, the successes of mass production and consumption in the
new economy seem cause us entirely forgot to notify finitude and limits of the whole world. This

Blind Side Camera Angles
The Blindside is a exceptionally good sports movie that is based on a true story the movie is directed
by John Lee Hancock. It is about a poor black teenager whose life takes a brand new direction thanks
to the wealthy Tuohy family. The film has lots of good camera angles and settings It also makes really
good use of costumes as well.
The main story is about Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron), he is a really poor black teenager whose life is
going no where until his life takes a massive turn for the better because of the wealthy Leigh Anne
Tuohy (Sandra Bullock) offers for him to come spend the night with the Tuohy family and he accepts,
he is amazed by the wealth this family has and the size and pristine condition of their house. The

Camera angles in movies can be used to show a character has power over another one. It is also used if
character is physically taller than another but has less power the camera angle may still be down on
them. This is shown in the Blind Side when michael is being interviewed by the lady from the
N.C.A.A The camera angle is clear that the lady has more power over michael because she is almost
always looking down on him except at the end where michael takes a stand against the lady and leaves
the room then the camera angles even out showing the shift in power. It was very effective in making
him feel powerless and then powerful. Another example is when michael is in hurt village when he is
talking to alton and he is sitting with him and then he stands up and it creates a lot of tension and it
shows the balance of power tilting towards michael. The camera angles in the blind side were amazing

Rousseau And Wollstonecraft On The Lack Of Equality
Rousseau and Wollstonecraft on the Lack of Equality We are not supposed to be all equal. Let s just
forget that. We are supposed to have equal rights under law. If we do that, we have done enough. said
Ben Stein, an iconic commentator on political and economic issues. But is it enough? Of course
everyone is not born equal but if we were to be alike under the law, does that mean inequalities are to
disappear in households and in governments? If we re not supposed to be equal according to Ben, then
where does inequality come from and what are the consequences of it? Jean Jacques Rousseau in The
Basic Political Writings and Mary Wollstonecraft in A Vindication of the Rights of Woman serves to
answers those questions. The two authors offer a very different assessment from each other on the
matter but for me personally, I can relate to both sides of the argument. Rousseau s claim that nearly
all inequalities result from social institutions is very appealing because it s essentially claiming to be
the origin of inequality and Wollstonecraft on the other hand dives deeper into the subject matter to
discuss a very specific inequality, the lack of gender equality and the consequences of it. ... Show

Rousseau argues that people are naturally equal before societies existed because people lived in
solitude before rules and communication with one another existed. He claims that prior to reason there
are two principles that existed, self preservation and pity. (2011: 42) Self preservation or love of self
drove humans to find food and shelter, pity on the other hand is what led humans to create society
because naturally humans cannot stand to see others suffer and perish. Thus, the creation of societies
is what created inequalities among humans according to Rousseau but Wollstonecraft couldn t

Stereotypes Of A True Hero
Romance heroes, Action heroes, Fiction heroes, Real heroes. They are all around us. Have you ever
actually stopped to think about all the places we can see/find heroes in our daily lives? Near and far,
people are performing courageous acts this second. If we just stopped to realize these everyday
people, we could view the world in such a different light than focusing on the negative acts of
criminals and liars. What is the real question? What is a hero, or who is a hero? Well, in my eyes, a
hero is someone who surrenders more for other people than they do for themselves. This is shown in
actions across the globe and across time.
Throughout time, we as people create stereotypes and guidelines to provide a clear idea what the
normal of something is. So what do we claim a hero is? Look at an easy stereotype in Disney.
Hercules. Truly obvious, I know, but what we are looking at is the most basic stereotype: heroes are
men. Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty are all movies titled after their female characters
and yet it is men who are thrust ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is it possible for us to be heroes in our daily lives? The truth is that each one of us has the ability to
become a hero to someone (Allison). I agree, I think the answer is yes. Every time we declare choices,
we have the possibility to be heroic. Little, simple actions such as making someone smile when they
are in a bad mood. Helping an elderly person up stairs or across the street, finding fifty dollars and
returning it, or even just helping out a struggling classmate can be viewed as heroic. Giving to other
people without expecting anything in return is one more definition of being heroic. Just because we
aren t in the war or in a movie, does not mean we cannot be heroes in our own lives. We write our own

Syrian Warrior God Essay
Syrian Warrior God
The Syrian Warrior God is on display in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art s Hammer Building
as a part of the Art of the Ancient Near East collection a collection consisting of over two thousand
objects spanning over four thousand years. Artifacts from all over the ancient Near East can be seen in
the various, well lit, galleries of LACMA. With simple cream colored walls, the stone reliefs, pottery,
vessels, and sculptures, all clearly stand out behind their protective casings. Though the galleries offer
thousands of artifacts to gaze upon, the collection is well organized and not at all overwhelming.
The Syrian Warrior God can be seen standing on a pedestal within its protective casing inside of the
Florence and Bernard B. Roth Gallery. Dated back to the fourteenth century BCE, the Syrian Warrior
God is a small Phoenician bronze sculpture with gold and silver overlay standing at 7x2x3 inches. On
top of the warrior s gold face, a crown resembling the crowns of the Egyptian pharaohs can be seen. In

Contract is an agreement between two or more competent parties in which an offer is made and

material value to the bargain) and an intention to create legal relations. The agreement can be formal,
informal, written, or just plain understood. (a) For a contract to exist the offer must be made and then
accepted. An offer may be defined as a statement of the terms put forward as the basis of the bargain
which carries with it a promise, express or implied, to adhere to the terms. A legally binding offer will

Counter offer has an effect of canceling the original offer and so the original offeror can decide
whether to sell it to somebody else at the price he has stated and the terms of the original offer. To
conclude it can be stated that Bernard s letter was not a mere enquiry of negotiation, but a counter
offer, which Anton didn t accept. Therefore there was no contract between Anton and Bernard and
Anton was free to sell the boat to Celine. However from the other point of view, it can be argued that
Bernard s phrase that he is willing to accept Anton s offer identifies that he is just asking some further
information and tests out whether further negotiation with Anton is possible. This means that the
original offer was not destroyed, but due to the fact that his reply was vague it can be considered not
enforceable, as offerees should explain them clearly as well as the offerors. Therefore no contract took
place in this situation. (b) In this scenario Bernard replied by return of post, and accepted Anton s
original offer. Usually, communication is effective only when it reaches the offeror or the offeror s
place of business. However, Postal rule is a well known legal principle in contract law. The postal rule
of acceptance of an offer became entrenched in the common law of contact in the English courts and
therefore in the Australia courts during the nineteenth century. And the postal rule is an exception to
the general rules of contract law in common

What Does My Life Mean To Me Essay
I picture myself living a life in which I have no worries or financial concerns; a life where I can travel
all around the world and meet new people each and every day of the week. A life such as this is one
that I have dreamed for since the days of my childhood, this new life will provide me with financial
stability, new opportunities, and the chance to explore the world around me. It is on this very day that
I hope to accomplish this dream, I can only hope and pray that this one chance I am given will give
me redemption and allow me to make peace with myself. My journey takes me back to my childhood
days in Mexico, I had very little in life due to my family s financial troubles, and the vast majority of
my childhood was consequently ruined. Numerous times I would think to myself that I would never be

Weighted Average Cost of Capital Analysis of Bendigo Bank
Bendigo Bank Analysis WACC Analysis (Question 2) The decision to choose the issuance of preferred
shares or unsecured notes is balanced not only by the cost of the capital to the bank, but also the
characteristics of the instruments themselves. Issuing preferred stock may be advantageous to the
current firm s management due to its unique characteristics over ordinary stock, as well as its hybrid
status as a financing instrument. Preferred stock is enticing to investors since it is senior to ordinary
stock and delivers a set dividend payment, yet generally warrants the holder no voting rights. A firm
that repurchases voting shares of ordinary stock, while at the same time issuing preferred shares,
effectively retains a similar balance of outstanding shares, while diminishing the voting pool. The
bank s beta of .88 and the expected return of 12.72% from the All Ordinaries Accumulation Index (Pg.
3) produce a required rate of return of 11.9784%. This rate reflects a discount to the expected rate of
return to the overall market, due to a lower risk and return profile the beta coefficient suggests of the
bank. Based upon a weighted average cost of capital, the issuance of preferred shares yields an
overall, after tax, price of 3.587%. The underlying assumption is that the common shares continue to
receive an annual dividend of .23, yield of 4.15%. The alternate consideration of issuing unsecured
bonds costs the bank 3.721% for the capital. The calculation is based

The Falcons were able to take advantage of some opportunities and score twice in the second half to

The American Crisis By Thomas Paine
The American Crisis is a pamphlet series by 18th century Enlightenment philosopher and author
Thomas Paine, originally published from 1776 to 1783 during the American Revolution. Often known
as The American Crisis or simply The Crisis, there are 16 pamphlets in total. Thirteen numbered
pamphlets were published between 1776 and 1777, with three additional pamphlets released between
1777 and 1783. The first of the pamphlets were published in Pennsylvania Journal. Paine signed the
pamphlets with the pseudonym, Common Sense. The pamphlets were contemporaneous with early
parts of the American Revolution, during a time when colonists needed inspiring works. Paine, like

Paine sees the British political and military maneuvers in America as impious; for so unlimited a
power can belong only to God. Paine states that he believes God supports the American cause, that
God Almighty will not give up a people to military destruction, or leave them unsupportedly to perish,
who have so earnestly and so repeatedly sought to avoid the calamities of war, by every decent
method which wisdom could invent .Paine takes great lengths to state that Americans do not lack
force, but a proper application of that force implying throughout that an extended war can lead only to
defeat unless a stable army was composed not of militia but of trained professionals. But Paine
maintains a positive view overall, hoping that this American crisis can be quickly resolved, for though
the flame of liberty may sometimes cease to shine, the coal can never expire. The Crisis No. 1 starts
out with the famous line These are the times that try men s souls, and goes on to talk about how
Britain has no right to invade America, saying that it is a power belonging only to God. He also says
that if being bound in that manner is not slavery, then there is not such a thing

1. Issue related to corporate social responsibility
2. Issue related to promotional deceiving
3. Issue related to equal opportunity in workplace
4. Issue related to employee responsibility
5. Issue related to bribery

Corporation came up with the styling new line of car, Rento. It was considered as a rushed project,
thus they skipped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The deontological ethics states that there are things that we must do as a matter of principle regardless
of consequences (Moral standards, PowerPoint Slides). Here the Vice President, Rodford had to act on
the best interest of the company in making profit and surviving the competition against European and
Japanese cars. Therefore he ignored the fact of putting people in risk of accidents. The positive right
test assists the wellbeing of the company and its employee by making sales and profit. Whereas the
negative right test overrides the wellbeing of the customers and the community members with the risk
of death. Again since life is irreplaceable and profit can substituted by other means, the action of the
company is wrong from the deontological view too.
The policy that Dentex Corporation should follow is strict rules and regulation for the Product
Planning Committee regarding product safety. There should be more awareness raised among the
employees and management regarding the ethical responsibility towards the customers and society as
a whole.
2. Issue related to promotional deceiving
Another issue mentioned in the case is the deceptive advertising. Since the image of Rento was
hampered because of the accidents, Dentex decided to develop a manipulative marketing strategy.
Their strategy included targeting the young male crowd between the ages of 16 to 24, who can be
influenced easily. The experimental researched and focus groups showed that this

Women s Sex Trade For Women
Thai women are not always lured into the sex trade for reasons that are associated with force or
kidnappings. Thai women look at the potential that the sex industry could provide; women seek for the
potential to make enough money to support their families and expunge their debts. It is therefore an
appealing occupation where women can make a median monthly income from sex work ranging from
5,825 to 7,950 baht. By this, it is important to compare a typical Thai salary of a decent occupation
such as a chef or construction worker, in which earnings are around 6,000 baht per month. In many
cases, women might end up as prostitutes because their parents had to sell them into slavery or
because their impoverished husbands might so use them. By the middle of the second millennium
B.C., prostitution was well established as a likely occupation for the daughters of the poor (atd. In
Parrot and Cummings 6). The women who are targeted as best candidates for the illicit trade are
driven by the need for work. Victims seek occupations and fall in the hands of recruiters who sell them
lies, and or at times the parties force them to become a personal slave. For example, victims like Rei
from Thailand knew that she would have to be a prostitute in terms of an appealing salary. Rei grew
up in southern Thailand and had a hard time obtaining a job after completing twelfth grade. She heard
many women who were going to work in Japan; she also knew of agents in her neighborhood that

Digestive System Lab Report
Script
Introduction: The digestive system is needed in order to break down food in order to be able to use the
food as energy, and my group and I have simulated the digestive process of a muffin.
Mouth:
In the mouth, mastication in the form of chewing takes place, which is a type of mechanical digestion.
Mastication occurs when the teeth, with the incisors simulated by the knife and the molars simulated
by the motor and pestle, cut the food into smaller particles, which maximised surface area. This allows
the amylase enzymes in the saliva that are secreted from the salivary glands to more rapidly distribute
and break down the starches in the ball of chewed muffin. This is a type of chemical digestion. The
tongue also helps to knead the muffin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Villi are 0.5 to 1 millimetres in height and also contain micro villi, and since a bumpy surface has a
larger surface area than a flat one, the villi allow more nutrients to be absorbed at a faster rate.
The movements within the small intestines can be categorised into two types; segmenting contraction
and peristaltic contraction. In segmenting contractions, the circular intestine wall constricts allowing
the chyme to be mixed and churned. Peristaltic contraction includes wave like contractions that pushes
the chyme downwards.
6. Large intestine
In the large intestine, mucus is secreted to aid the transportation of chyme through the cecum,
ascending, transverse, descending and sigmoid colon. The water and salts are also absorbed as shown
by the paper towel in the simulation, and this results in the chyme being converted into feces.
7. Rectum
The rectum is the continuation of the sigmoid colon, and it is here where the feces are stored until the
defecation process is needed to dispose of feces through the anal canal.
Conclusion: In closing, the food goes through the mouth, throat, esophagus, stomach, small intestine,
large intestine and rectum, and convert from a bolus to chyme to feces, before it has gone through the
whole digestive system.

Tender Is The Night
In the years following the Great War, the world underwent one of the largest cultural shifts it had ever
experienced. Feelings of discontent were especially high amongst Americans, as the nation had been
dragged into a brutal European war. Bitter emotions led to the Lost Generation s writings, which
include the works of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Within his novel, Tender is the Night, Fitzgerald focuses on a
group of Americans in France during the 1920s. The idea of failure of the American Dream can be
observed throughout the novel. Protagonist Dick Diver exemplifies the loss of the American Dream. A

brave to be publicly open about. A member of the Lost Generation works by Fitzgerald, such as
Tender is the Night, provide valuable insight into the inner workings of public values from the 1920s.
This openness is exceptional and elevates the novel from a fictional story to a window of time, making
it even more unique and appreciable. Although poorly received at the time of its publication in 1934,
modern readers can delve into the piece and find understanding that many other novels

Advantages Of New Urbanism
New Urbanism or neotraditoonal planning has emerged as an important alternative to the prevailing
patterns of low density, auto dependent land development. New urbanism is an urban design
movement intended to produce the physical environment necessary for diverse, strong communities. It

Why is the death penalty still allowed throughout much of the U.S.? The process of prosecuting and

The advantages of life imprisonment far more outweigh the death sentence. Death Penalty

(NAKELL, 1978) The death penalty is much more expensive than life imprisonment without parole.
Capital trails are longer and more expensive at every step than other murder trials. Capital cases tend
to last several years and can consist of pretrial motions, expert witness investigations, jury selection,
and the necessity for two trials; one on guilt and the other on sentencing. Once an individual is
sentenced to death, the case automatically gets appealed to the state, then to the Court of Appeals and
finally to the Supreme Court. Guilty pleas in capital punishment cases are almost unheard of, plus
many of these trials result in life sentences anyway, so the state in which the trial is held ends up
paying for the costs of the capital case. The extreme costs of capital punishment are actually making
America less safe because financial and legal resources are being diverted from effective crime
fighting. When a prosecutor decides to pursue a capital case they go to extensive and costly means,
this may include the use of forensics, psychology, technology, and witnesses. The states (tax payers)
also suffer; security precautions imposed by the death sentence must be paid. In the end the offender
may die in prison, so there is no reliable data that the death penalty

Plessy V. Ferguson Case Study
In 1892, the Plessy v. Ferguson case had emerged from a conflict from Louisiana s Separate Car Act.
The law required that railroads have separate but equal accommodations, prohibiting African
American and White passengers from entering besides the one they were assigned to based on race.
Homer Plessy, a seven eighths White and one eighth African American bought a rail travel ticket in
Louisiana for the White car and took a seat. He was later told to move to the African American car,
after refusing to move he was arrested and charged for not complying with the Separate Car Act. In
the U.S. District Court, Judge John H. Ferguson dismissed Plessy s argument that the act was
unconstitutional. The majority who went with Associate Justice Henry Billings Brown jilted Plessy s
arguments that it opposed the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendment. The dissenting opinion was with
Associate Judge John Marshall Harlan who said that the court was neglecting the purpose of the
Separate Car Act, which said under the guise of giving equal accommodation for whites and blacks, to
compel the latter to keep to themselves while traveling in railroad passenger coaches. Plessy was

The Common Fruit Fly Drosophila Melanogaster

Lab Section: 15833 Date: 9/28/15 TA Instructor Name: Esra Unsal
Writing Assignment 3: Eyes in flies: An overview of the cinnabar gene and its relation to Huntington s
disease
Introduction
The common fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster is often regarded as the model organism for genetic
testing due to many factors such as its short reproductive cycle, its similarities to humans, or the ease
of tracking mutations in Drosophila melanogaster. The Drosophila melanogaster is used to model
diseases such as Cancer, Diabetes, and Huntington s Disease. By studying the changes in how the
proteins interact, the origin of such disease can be found providing a deeper understanding of how to
cure these fatal ailments.
Since Drosophila melanogaster is 70% similar to the human genome mutation in humans can easily be
replicated in the flies. Due to their short lifespan, the Drosophila melanogaster allow for the
progression of the mutations to occur rapidly and allow tracing of the mutation into subsequent
generations. Drosophila melanogaster generally has a phenotypic change associated with mutated
genes that control the coding of certain proteins.
A mutation in the cinnabar gene, which causes the ocelli to become colorless and the eyes to become a
bright red color, was originally discovered by Roy Clausen, a professor at the University of California
in 1918. The cinnabar gene is a protein coder gene which controls how the

Society And The Lone Hero In The Western Film
The classic elements of The Western as a genre is dominated by the differences and relationship
between society and the lone hero. As the narrative captures this relationship other classic elements of
The Western are put on display. According to Will Wright, these elements include the secondary class
that women hold to men in society as the Easternization of the world, the root of good versus evil, and
wilderness versus civilization. These elements are directly correlated to The Western film Shane
(1953) where the classic plot plays out when Shane comes into civilization on his horse with his
moleskins and six shooter to inevitably defeat the villains threatening society. There are 16 parts to the
classical plot according to Wright with some optional, but Shane follows these actions almost

Comparison Of An Hour And A Pair Of Silk Stockings
Both A Pair of Silk Stockings and The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin, were written from a third
person point of view, making the story less subjective and more objective. As a result the reader is
unable to put him or herself into the story. The narrative structures of A Pair of Silk Stockings and The
Story of an Hour differ in that the setting, the time and overall story plots are completely different.
There is one similarity that sticks out, both protagonists are selfish. There is really strong symbolism
and imagery in both stories which puts the reader inside the story. The narrative structure of Chopin s
A Pair of Silk Stockings indicates that the story takes place in a big city, most likely New York or
somewhere similar. This can be assumed because Mrs. Sommers visits a department store, goes to a
shoe department store, a magazine stand, and eats at a fancy restaurant. The fact that she mentions
how the shoe store is across from the department store and only a few feet away there was a magazine
display and the restaurant was on the same corner. Maybe it was a downtown area with lots of shops

However, it s even more important to ask certain questions before taking a vehicle with an aluminum
body to a body repair shop. After all, aluminum is a completely different material to work with, so you
re going to want to find a body repair professional who is accustomed to working on vehicles like
yours. Additionally, specific types of equipment have to be used with vehicles that have aluminum
bodies, and aluminum and steel don t mix. This means that if equipment that was used on a steel
vehicle is used on your vehicle, corrosion can occur. Taking the time to do your research to find a shop
that has a lot of experience in working on vehicles with aluminum bodies is important. You can also
ask questions to find out more about how the people who run the shop take steps to prevent corrosion

The True Behavior Of Violent Video Game Players
Austin Schuster
Composition Critical Thinking
February 24, 2015
The True Behavior of Violent Video Game Players In October 1958, a Physicist named William
Higinbotham successfully created the first interactive computer software purely for entertainment; a
simple idea of two panels bouncing a dot between one another. This was later rebranded as the famous
title Pong, the original that Higinbotham created was generated on an oscilloscope, which is a small
computer designed to test electrical equipment. Today, video games are huge in terms of consumer
acceptance, marketing, and digital file size. Video games are designed to be a fourth form of
entertainment, joining books, movies, and television shows. However, the content has certainly always
been changing within any given video game title; a larger, more recent genre known as first person
shooters (FPS) or specific role playing games (RPGs), these types of video games are developed and
rated by global software rating companies, worrying some consumers that most mature themed video
games will create violent behavior in a player. This speculation of violent video games affecting a
person s everyday behavior negatively is incorrect and ironically childish over a simple form of time
consumption. There are many types of video games, such as classic platformers we all know like
Super Mario Bros., Japanese side scrolling shoot em ups (Opa Opa), fantasy RPGs (Final Fantasy),
recent addition of FPS like Destiny, and many more.

John Gardner and The Art of Fiction Essay
John Gardner and The Art of Fiction
After reading The Art of Fiction by John Gardner, I am definitely more knowledgeable on the topic of
writing fiction than I was before. The first sentence of this book reads, This is a book designed to
teach the serious beginning writer the art of fiction (ix). I believe it does just that and perhaps much
more. The book is divided into two main sections: notes on literary aesthetic theory and notes on the
fictional process. This allows the reader to hear commentary on two very different views of fiction,
thus giving the aspiring writer a well rounded understanding of the subject.
Although a large part of this books deals with the method one uses to write a successful piece of ...

In doing so, he has allowed the amateur to experiment in his or her writing without having to worry
necessarily about whether they are following a proper format or style. This makes the writing process
a lot more fun and relaxing. Furthermore, by describing fiction as more a mode of thought for writers
than a means of entertainment, Gardner has given the process of writing fiction an intriguing edge that
makes it much more exciting for the writer.
Another of the book s highlights is its thorough examination of the many different ways and points of
view from which a piece of fiction can be told. This aspect is especially strong when Gardner
discusses such things as metafiction and deconstruction, two fascinating methods of writing fiction
that are probably not well known among most young writers. In explaining these different kinds of
fiction, Gardner also uses many vivid examples, such as passages from many classical works of
fiction, that help the reader truly understand what is being discussed.
Even though I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, there were some aspects of it that I did not
especially care for. The first of these aspects are the sections that are devoted to showing the reader
what errors are commonly made in writing a piece of fiction. Although I do see the value in showing a
student such things as the dangers of using excessive

The Gulf Of Mexico And America
The Gulf of Mexico is a partially locked body of water surrounded by the North American continent
(Gulf of Mexico, 2000). The gulf links five southern U.S states: Florida, Alabama, Mississippi,
Louisiana, and Texas and six Mexican states: Tamaulipas, Vera Cruz, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán,
and Quintana Roo (Gulf of Mexico Facts, 2015). The gulf surrounds Cuba and connects to the Atlantic
Ocean. The Gulf of Mexico may just seem like another body of water, but that is far from the truth.
This body of water has many contributions to society and society has also affected it in many ways
because of its resources. Before doing any research I believed that the Gulf of Mexico was owned by
Mexico and I found out that this was a misconception. No one other than the federal government owns
this body of water. There are Territorial waters, which are areas of a body of water that contact land
and are claimed by an specific country (Who Owns the Gulf of Mexico? 2010). This means that there
is a 12 miles wide band that would belong to what ever land it touches. For example 12 miles out of
the coast of Florida belong to the United States. However, parts of the Gulf of Mexico can be leased to
petroleum and gas companies in order for the government and the companies to create a profit. The
word profit takes me to one of my points of this paper on how the Gulf of Mexico helps the people
and the country. The Gulf of Mexico benefits North America greatly because of its economical
aspects.

Patriarchy In The House On Mango Street
The dedication of Sandra Cisneros The House on Mango Street is written simply as this: A las Mujeres
/ To the Women. . Cisneros is an award winning American writer born and raised in Chicago, Illinois.
Cisneros has written many books and stories, one of them being The House on Mango Street, which
tells the story, through vignettes, of a young girl named Esperanza. Esperanza faces many challenges
because of her gender and observes and narrates women who are also faced with conflicts due to their
being a woman. With the use of symbolism, irony, and personification in Cisneros The House on
Mango Street, Cisneros distinguishes a key theme of a patriarchal system within society, which
Cisneros believes is a sad and discouraging social system.

Video Game Violence
Media and Video Game Violence and the Systematic Desensitization of Children
Violence in media is not a recent development. Prior to television, citizens across the country glued
themselves to the radio listening to the broadcast of popular crime dramas. Before radio, books and
newsprint fulfilled society s craving for dramatic violence. Prior to the days of technology, live stage
performances served to sate man s desire for thrills. With the recent advent of technology along with
an ever increasing human desire for blood pumping entertainment, children now are much more
exposed to media violence than ever before. Gauthier, Zuromski and Gitter write, Media coverage of
violent killings (e.g., the Columbine High School shooting in 1999) has cited the potential role of
violent media exposure in fostering aggressive behavior, especially because some of the perpetrators
have a history of violent media consumption (513). Children spend hours on end watching television
shows and movies filled with violence or playing video games where they can play the role of a
character and act out the violence themselves. This can lead to children eventually playing out these
fantasies in real life or, more likely, not reacting humanely in the face of violence. Overindulged by
the violence in media and video games, children are losing the capacity for compassion and
developing the capacity to harm others without feeling guilt for their actions. To help curb these
harmful effects,

Mike s Struggle With Alcohol Abuse
Alcoholism has little to do with what kind of alcohol one drinks, how long one has been drinking, or
even exactly how much alcohol one consumes. But it has a great deal to do with a person s
uncontrollable need for alcohol. Did you know that 88,000 deaths a year are attributed to excessive
alcohol abuse? Today, you will be hearing about a young gentle man just at the age of 22 that struggles
with alcohol addiction and how it has affected his future. His name is Mike, a college baseball player
that struggles with alcohol because he grew up witnessing alcohol addiction in the family. Mike s
father struggled with alcohol addiction as well as his grandpa back in the day when receiving 7 total

There are 5 steps I recommend for Mike to continue his stoppage with alcohol. First, identify your
reasons. Find your why of why you want to change and continue the progress of having a clean life.
For Mike, baseball, school, and family is something he is passionate about so he will base his life
around those three whys and make them priorities. Second, make a plan. Have a vision of what you
want and go get it. Have a reminder around you at all times to make sure you stay motivated in your
progress. Mike decided to get a Rocky poster put above his bed at school to wake up to, and remind
him to conquer the day. Third, share your plan with others. People who hide their problems from
people are more likely to fall in those same patterns again. Take pride in your change, and share with
others your mission and how you are going to improve your life. Mike wanted to change his physical
body as a replacement of drinking, so he replaced his beer gut with ten pounds of muscle. Fourth,
evaluate your progress. Each week evaluate your short team goals and stay on tract. Short term
success leads to long term success. You can make a leap of faith but it won t happen in one night.
Mike is constantly reminding himself to Trust the Process. Learn from the pass and have faith for the
future. Lastly, continue your new behaviors. After trying this plan for 30 days, try it for another 30
days. Like anything else in life, it is not easy to change behavior, even when it might be in your best
interest. Mike is sticking to his main priorities which are baseball, school, and family which are
helping him stay on tract while his grades are already

Chronic Low Back Pain (CLBP) Chronic low back pain (cLBP) is a health condition that is defined as pain located in the posterior aspect of the body between the 12th rib and the inferior gluteal folds, with or without radiating pain (Dionne et al., 2008), which has continued at least three months and has caused pain on at least half the days in the past six months (Deyo et al., 2014). • 6. The Price Increase And Demand Model Question 1 The dramatic price increase of garlic in China in 2009 can be explained by the supply and demand model. Perfect competition is evident in the agricultural industry, as there are many producers who act as price takers. In the previous year, low prices discouraged farmers from continuing to plant garlic crops. Many farmers turned to growing produce that they believed would be more profitable and hence, garlic supplies declined. The supply curve shifted to the left (S_1 to S_2 below), causing a slight increase in the equilibrium price (P_1 to P_2) and large decrease in equilibrium quantity (Q_1 to Q_2) of garlic. In China, garlic has long been considered to have medicinal benefits. The swine flu epidemic of 2009 caused tastes to shift towards garlic and significantly increased the quantity demanded. The demand curve shifted to the right (D_1 to D_2), causing an increase in both the equilibrium price (P_2 to P_3) and quantity (Q_2 to Q_3) of garlic. Since land set aside for garlic crops had been halved in the previous year, farmers could not respond quickly to the price increase by returning to garlic production. This meant that in the short term, the price elasticity of supply was relatively inelastic, and so the outward shift in the demand curve increased equilibrium price substantially more than quantity. Chinese investors stockpiled wholesale supplies in prediction that the price would continue to rise. The supply curve shifted to the left (S_2 to S_3), ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Discovery Of Non Euclidean Geometry IaOng Moua Professor McLeod Math 451: Axiomatic Geometry Research Paper 12/13/16 History of Hyperbolic Geometry The discovery of non Euclidean geometry is credited to nineteenth century mathematicians Carl Friedrich Gauss, Nikolai Ivanovich Lobachevsky, and János Bolyai because they are first to recognize that the negation of Euclid s Fifth Postulate as an axiom produced another geometry that was as rich and solid as that of Euclidean geometry (Venema, 2012). However, several concepts of Hyperbolic geometry were already known by that time, it just was not labeled as Hyperbolic geometry (or non Euclidean geometry) because Hyperbolic geometry was not yet discovered . Euclid s work was so distinguished that it was accepted as the standard so people did not think it was possible for other geometries to exist. All in all, the discovery and growth of Hyperbolic geometry first began with several mathematicians trying to prove that Euclid s Fifth Postulate could be eliminated as an axiom. Before the Recognition of Hyperbolic Geometry as a Geometry Geometry first originated as a way to solve problems in architecture and navigation. A famous figure in geometry is Euclid. Around 300 BC, he published a book, The Elements, which contained definitions, axioms, and postulates that would be regarded as a standard of mathematical reasoning for the next two thousand years (Mueller, 1969). Euclid basically gave the foundation of what is now called Euclidean geometry. However, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many of the techniques are vital for a great musician to understand. Things such as embouchure, vibrato and tone effects are all things that are required by the musician. I will be investigating the embouchure and how a correct one will substantially increase your prowess as a woodwind, particularly clarinet, player. The clarinet is a woodwind instrument that has a single reed mouthpiece. Johann Christoph Denner invented the clarinet in Germany around the turn of the 18th century by adding a register key to the earlier Chalumea. Having a correct embouchure is vitally important to playing woodwind instruments. Structure 1. Embouchure. 2. Different types of embouchures in different people. 3. Research into different kinds of embouchure and how other people do it. 4. Synthesis of why it is very important to have an good embouchure. With the woodwinds, the sound is generated by a reed and not with the lips. The embouchure is therefore based on sealing the area around the reed and the mouthpiece. This makes sure that there is no air escaping from either side of the mouthpiece when the musician is blowing. A reed instrument works by having the musician blowing a steady breath of air over the reed and through the mouthpiece. The vibrations of the reed are what produce the sound that makes up the notes. The harder or stronger the air is passing over the reed the higher the pitch of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Rousseau And Wollstonecraft On The Lack Of Equality Rousseau and Wollstonecraft on the Lack of Equality We are not supposed to be all equal. Let s just forget that. We are supposed to have equal rights under law. If we do that, we have done enough. said Ben Stein, an iconic commentator on political and economic issues. But is it enough? Of course everyone is not born equal but if we were to be alike under the law, does that mean inequalities are to disappear in households and in governments? If we re not supposed to be equal according to Ben, then where does inequality come from and what are the consequences of it? Jean Jacques Rousseau in The Basic Political Writings and Mary Wollstonecraft in A Vindication of the Rights of Woman serves to answers those questions. The two authors offer a very different assessment from each other on the matter but for me personally, I can relate to both sides of the argument. Rousseau s claim that nearly all inequalities result from social institutions is very appealing because it s essentially claiming to be the origin of inequality and Wollstonecraft on the other hand dives deeper into the subject matter to discuss a very specific inequality, the lack of gender equality and the consequences of it. ... If we just stopped to realize these everyday people, we could view the world in such a different light than focusing on the negative acts of criminals and liars. What is the real question? What is a hero, or who is a hero? Well, in my eyes, a hero is someone who surrenders more for other people than they do for themselves. This is shown in actions across the globe and across time. Throughout time, we as people create stereotypes and guidelines to provide a clear idea what the normal of something is. So what do we claim a hero is? Look at an easy stereotype in Disney. Hercules. Helping an elderly person up stairs or across the street, finding fifty dollars and returning it, or even just helping out a struggling classmate can be viewed as heroic. Giving to other people without expecting anything in return is one more definition of being heroic. Just because we aren t in the war or in a movie, does not mean we cannot be heroes in our own lives. We write our own stories and choose our own paths. By making these decisions to be heroes in our own worlds, we can be just like our favorite characters and role ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Syrian Warrior God Essay Syrian Warrior God The Syrian Warrior God is on display in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art s Hammer Building as a part of the Art of the Ancient Near East collection a collection consisting of over two thousand objects spanning over four thousand years. Artifacts from all over the ancient Near East can be seen in the various, well lit, galleries of LACMA. With simple cream colored walls, the stone reliefs, pottery, vessels, and sculptures, all clearly stand out behind their protective casings. Though the galleries offer thousands of artifacts to gaze upon, the collection is well organized and not at all overwhelming. The Syrian Warrior God can be seen standing on a pedestal within its protective casing inside of the Florence and Bernard B. Roth Gallery. Dated back to the fourteenth century BCE, the Syrian Warrior God is a small Phoenician bronze sculpture with gold and silver overlay standing at 7x2x3 inches. On top of the warrior s gold face, a crown resembling the crowns of the Egyptian pharaohs can be seen. As inspirational as nature is, can it deliver the creative, analogical keys to unlock this complex problem? A Review of the Literature: Darmoul et al. It demonstrates that biological solutions help to develop principles for detection strategies, formation of reactive solutions, supervised learning and memory utilization from previous experiences. The report reviews the current transport control systems; the geographic information system (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), automatic passenger counters (APC), and automatic vehicle monitoring systems (AVMS). No contract can come into being unless the following features exist: an actual offer, an acceptance, consideration (this means that each party will contribute something of a material value to the bargain) and an intention to create legal relations. The agreement can be formal, informal, written, or just plain understood. (a) For a contract to exist the offer must be made and then accepted. Counter offer has an effect of canceling the original offer and so the original offeror can decide whether to sell it to somebody else at the price he has stated and the terms of the original offer. To conclude it can be stated that Bernard s letter was not a mere enquiry of negotiation, but a counter offer, which Anton didn t accept. Therefore there was no contract between Anton and Bernard and Anton was free to sell the boat to Celine. However from the other point of view, it can be argued that Bernard s phrase that he is willing to accept Anton s offer identifies that he is just asking some further information and tests out whether further negotiation with Anton is possible. This means that the original offer was not destroyed, but due to the fact that his reply was vague it can be considered not enforceable, as offerees should explain them clearly as well as the offerors. Therefore no contract took place in this situation. (b) In this scenario Bernard replied by return of post, and accepted Anton s original offer. Usually, communication is effective only when it reaches the offeror or the offeror s place of business. However, Postal rule is a well known legal principle in contract law. Weighted Average Cost of Capital Analysis of Bendigo Bank Bendigo Bank Analysis WACC Analysis (Question 2) The decision to choose the issuance of preferred shares or unsecured notes is balanced not only by the cost of the capital to the bank, but also the characteristics of the instruments themselves. Issuing preferred stock may be advantageous to the current firm s management due to its unique characteristics over ordinary stock, as well as its hybrid status as a financing instrument. Preferred stock is enticing to investors since it is senior to ordinary stock and delivers a set dividend payment, yet generally warrants the holder no voting rights. A firm that repurchases voting shares of ordinary stock, while at the same time issuing preferred shares, effectively retains a similar balance of outstanding shares, while diminishing the voting pool. The bank s beta of .88 and the expected return of 12.72% from the All Ordinaries Accumulation Index (Pg. 3) produce a required rate of return of 11.9784%. This rate reflects a discount to the expected rate of return to the overall market, due to a lower risk and return profile the beta coefficient suggests of the bank. Based upon a weighted average cost of capital, the issuance of preferred shares yields an overall, after tax, price of 3.587%. Thai women look at the potential that the sex industry could provide; women seek for the potential to make enough money to support their families and expunge their debts. It is therefore an appealing occupation where women can make a median monthly income from sex work ranging from 5,825 to 7,950 baht. By this, it is important to compare a typical Thai salary of a decent occupation such as a chef or construction worker, in which earnings are around 6,000 baht per month. In many cases, women might end up as prostitutes because their parents had to sell them into slavery or because their impoverished husbands might so use them. By the middle of the second millennium B.C., prostitution was well established as a likely occupation for the daughters of the poor (atd. In Parrot and Cummings 6). The women who are targeted as best candidates for the illicit trade are driven by the need for work. Victims seek occupations and fall in the hands of recruiters who sell them lies, and or at times the parties force them to become a personal slave. For example, victims like Rei from Thailand knew that she would have to be a prostitute in terms of an appealing salary. Mouth: In the mouth, mastication in the form of chewing takes place, which is a type of mechanical digestion. Mastication occurs when the teeth, with the incisors simulated by the knife and the molars simulated by the motor and pestle, cut the food into smaller particles, which maximised surface area. This allows the amylase enzymes in the saliva that are secreted from the salivary glands to more rapidly distribute and break down the starches in the ball of chewed muffin. In segmenting contractions, the circular intestine wall constricts allowing the chyme to be mixed and churned. Peristaltic contraction includes wave like contractions that pushes the chyme downwards. 6. Large intestine In the large intestine, mucus is secreted to aid the transportation of chyme through the cecum, ascending, transverse, descending and sigmoid colon. The water and salts are also absorbed as shown by the paper towel in the simulation, and this results in the chyme being converted into feces. 7. (NAKELL, 1978) The death penalty is much more expensive than life imprisonment without parole. Capital trails are longer and more expensive at every step than other murder trials. Capital cases tend to last several years and can consist of pretrial motions, expert witness investigations, jury selection, and the necessity for two trials; one on guilt and the other on sentencing. Once an individual is sentenced to death, the case automatically gets appealed to the state, then to the Court of Appeals and finally to the Supreme Court. Guilty pleas in capital punishment cases are almost unheard of, plus many of these trials result in life sentences anyway, so the state in which the trial is held ends up paying for the costs of the capital case. The extreme costs of capital punishment are actually making America less safe because financial and legal resources are being diverted from effective crime fighting. When a prosecutor decides to pursue a capital case they go to extensive and costly means, this may include the use of forensics, psychology, technology, and witnesses. • 41. Comparison Of An Hour And A Pair Of Silk Stockings Both A Pair of Silk Stockings and The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin, were written from a third person point of view, making the story less subjective and more objective. As a result the reader is unable to put him or herself into the story. The narrative structures of A Pair of Silk Stockings and The Story of an Hour differ in that the setting, the time and overall story plots are completely different. There is one similarity that sticks out, both protagonists are selfish. There is really strong symbolism and imagery in both stories which puts the reader inside the story. The narrative structure of Chopin s A Pair of Silk Stockings indicates that the story takes place in a big city, most likely New York or somewhere similar. This can be assumed because Mrs. Sommers visits a department store, goes to a shoe department store, a magazine stand, and eats at a fancy restaurant. The fact that she mentions how the shoe store is across from the department store and only a few feet away there was a magazine display and the restaurant was on the same corner. Maybe it was a downtown area with lots of shops and restaurants and the theater. The story starts out with her finding the money and spending a couple of days contemplating what to do with it. She walked about apparently in a dreamy state trying to figure out what to do, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chopin s description that the stockings glide serpent like through her fingers (Chopin, Vogue 7, 1897) in relevance to her temptation to start buying things she doesn t necessarily need, can be seen as a reference to sin. This serpent imagery can be seen as a temptation from Satan to indulge carelessly in fancy materialistic items. At first Mrs. Sommers is practical but her exhaustion from having forgotten to eat seems to cloud her better judgement and her exhaustion, from her poverty stricken life, leads to her indulgence and misuse of her ... • 43. The True Behavior Of Violent Video Game Players Austin Schuster Composition Critical Thinking February 24, 2015 The True Behavior of Violent Video Game Players In October 1958, a Physicist named William Higinbotham successfully created the first interactive computer software purely for entertainment; a simple idea of two panels bouncing a dot between one another. This was later rebranded as the famous title Pong, the original that Higinbotham created was generated on an oscilloscope, which is a small computer designed to test electrical equipment. Today, video games are huge in terms of consumer acceptance, marketing, and digital file size. Video games are designed to be a fourth form of entertainment, joining books, movies, and television shows. However, the content has certainly always been changing within any given video game title; a larger, more recent genre known as first person shooters (FPS) or specific role playing games (RPGs), these types of video games are developed and rated by global software rating companies, worrying some consumers that most mature themed video games will create violent behavior in a player. This speculation of violent video games affecting a person s everyday behavior negatively is incorrect and ironically childish over a simple form of time consumption. There are many types of video games, such as classic platformers we all know like Super Mario Bros., Japanese side scrolling shoot em ups (Opa Opa), fantasy RPGs (Final Fantasy), recent addition of FPS like Destiny, and many more. ... • 44. John Gardner and The Art of Fiction Essay John Gardner and The Art of Fiction After reading The Art of Fiction by John Gardner, I am definitely more knowledgeable on the topic of writing fiction than I was before. The first sentence of this book reads, This is a book designed to teach the serious beginning writer the art of fiction (ix). I believe it does just that and perhaps much more. The book is divided into two main sections: notes on literary aesthetic theory and notes on the fictional process. This allows the reader to hear commentary on two very different views of fiction, thus giving the aspiring writer a well rounded understanding of the subject. Although a large part of this books deals with the method one uses to write a successful piece of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In doing so, he has allowed the amateur to experiment in his or her writing without having to worry necessarily about whether they are following a proper format or style. This makes the writing process a lot more fun and relaxing. Furthermore, by describing fiction as more a mode of thought for writers than a means of entertainment, Gardner has given the process of writing fiction an intriguing edge that makes it much more exciting for the writer. Another of the book s highlights is its thorough examination of the many different ways and points of view from which a piece of fiction can be told. This aspect is especially strong when Gardner discusses such things as metafiction and deconstruction, two fascinating methods of writing fiction that are probably not well known among most young writers. In explaining these different kinds of fiction, Gardner also uses many vivid examples, such as passages from many classical works of fiction, that help the reader truly understand what is being discussed. Even though I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, there were some aspects of it that I did not especially care for. The first of these aspects are the sections that are devoted to showing the reader what errors are commonly made in writing a piece of fiction. Although I do see the value in showing a student such things as the dangers of using excessive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Gulf Of Mexico And America The Gulf of Mexico is a partially locked body of water surrounded by the North American continent (Gulf of Mexico, 2000). The gulf links five southern U.S states: Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas and six Mexican states: Tamaulipas, Vera Cruz, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo (Gulf of Mexico Facts, 2015). The gulf surrounds Cuba and connects to the Atlantic Ocean. The Gulf of Mexico may just seem like another body of water, but that is far from the truth. This body of water has many contributions to society and society has also affected it in many ways because of its resources. Before doing any research I believed that the Gulf of Mexico was owned by Mexico and I found out that this was a misconception. No one other than the federal government owns this body of water. There are Territorial waters, which are areas of a body of water that contact land and are claimed by an specific country (Who Owns the Gulf of Mexico? 2010). This means that there is a 12 miles wide band that would belong to what ever land it touches. For example 12 miles out of the coast of Florida belong to the United States. However, parts of the Gulf of Mexico can be leased to petroleum and gas companies in order for the government and the companies to create a profit. The word profit takes me to one of my points of this paper on how the Gulf of Mexico helps the people and the country. The Gulf of Mexico benefits North America greatly because of its economical aspects. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Video Game Violence Media and Video Game Violence and the Systematic Desensitization of Children Violence in media is not a recent development. Prior to television, citizens across the country glued themselves to the radio listening to the broadcast of popular crime dramas. Before radio, books and newsprint fulfilled society s craving for dramatic violence. Prior to the days of technology, live stage performances served to sate man s desire for thrills. With the recent advent of technology along with an ever increasing human desire for blood pumping entertainment, children now are much more exposed to media violence than ever before. Gauthier, Zuromski and Gitter write, Media coverage of violent killings (e.g., the Columbine High School shooting in 1999) has cited the potential role of violent media exposure in fostering aggressive behavior, especially because some of the perpetrators have a history of violent media consumption (513). Children spend hours on end watching television shows and movies filled with violence or playing video games where they can play the role of a character and act out the violence themselves. This can lead to children eventually playing out these fantasies in real life or, more likely, not reacting humanely in the face of violence. Overindulged by the violence in media and video games, children are losing the capacity for compassion and developing the capacity to harm others without feeling guilt for their actions. People who hide their problems from people are more likely to fall in those same patterns again. Take pride in your change, and share with others your mission and how you are going to improve your life. Mike wanted to change his physical body as a replacement of drinking, so he replaced his beer gut with ten pounds of muscle. Fourth, evaluate your progress. Each week evaluate your short team goals and stay on tract. Short term success leads to long term success. You can make a leap of faith but it won t happen in one night.
