Incident Based Reporting System
The National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS), is the system that police use to report crime
data. The data includes; the nature or type of the specific offense, the characteristics of victims and
offender, the type and value of property stolen and/ or recovered, and characteristics of persons
arrested with crime incidents. Incident based data provides a large amount of criminal information.
This is organized in complex, it reflects the different aspects of a crime incident.
Local state and federal agencies generate the NIBRS data from their management systems. Data is
collected on every incident and arrest into Group A and Group B offense categories. There are 49
Group A offenses, but grouped into 23 crime categories. Group B has 10 ... Show more content on

It will also be used by criminologist at a greater level to study crime in the United States. Nearly 6,000
law enforcement agencies submit the data in 35 different states. The FBI is working with the
Department of Justice in order to make sure all police agencies facilitate in participation. The goal for
the NIBRS is to become the new standard for law enforcement to report crime data to the FBI.
NACJD, a part of the Inter University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), was
conducted at the University of Michigan, and was designed to learn about the NIBRS dataset, to
connect the information to other NIBRS sources. The NIBRS is comprehensive because it accounts
for 22 offense categories. David Cuthbertson, the assistant director of the Criminal Justice Information
Services Division explains, the NIBRS 2011 and contains the information about the offenders,
victims, and ect. According to Cuthbertson, the data has new categories such as; gang offenses,
weapons offenses, and some vice offenses.
NIBRS provides more comprehensive data to law enforcement and academic communities better than
ever. It is available for management, training, planning, and research. The NIBRS will implement pace
commensurate with the abilities, the resources, and the limitations for the contributing law
enforcement agencies. NIBRS is being implemented throughout the FBI and police agencies to report
crime and create statistical tables from raw criminal

Chinese people are used to a relatively strong hierarchical structure. Promotions at work are in many
cases based on age before ability. The young, in turn, are deferential and
respectful to their older co workers and business associate, the advice and opinions of an older
worker are generally valued more than the words of a younger person. In Lithuania there are
differences between young entrepreneurs and older businesspeople. Younger businesspeople generally
have a less bureaucratic approach. Management style in China tends towards the directive, with the
senior manager giving instructions to their direct reports who in turn pass on the instructions down the
line. It is not expected that subordinates will question the decisions of superiors that would be to show
disrespect and be the direct cause of loss of face (mianzi) for all concerned. In a business negotiation
or meeting setting space orientation will be private more physical distance between individual
participants and no physical contact but office situation space is more large open spaces are filled with
many desks.  Management strategies As a manager you should act in a more flexible, improvised
manner. If one wants to successfully coordinate work with a Chinese, one tends to have more
communication to stay in his mind. They tend to be conservative in management and slow to change
those things that are tied to the past. Lithuanian managers

Bowdoin Social Phenomenon
Bowdoin College, better known as the Bowdoin bubble, has within it sociological phenomenon that
helps it maintain social cohesion. One of these social phenomenon is the Bowdoin hello. The Bowdoin
hello is the act of students greeting one another on campus and downtown. However, the practice of
this tradition has extended itself to people in cars at crosswalks and random people on the Bowdoin
campus. This phenomenon maintains social cohesion on campus because it attempts draws together a
community that is constantly changing. With the incoming diversity on campus it serves to reaffirm
what Bowdoin stands for, a welcoming community for everyone. The Bowdoin hello creates a norm,
which in turn creates an identity of what a Bowdoin student ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I will examine the material that they distribute to the incoming class that pertains to etiquette and
norms displayed on campus. Then I will engage in informal conversations ethnographically as a
complete participant with students about their views and uses of the Bowdoin hello. By immersing
myself as a complete participant I will be able to receive answers that have more credibility. I will also
utilize my personal experiences from when I entered Bowdoin as a first year and I will attempt to
breach the phenomenon to observe the outcome. The social location, which is Bowdoin s campus, will
enable my ability to observe the phenomenon because it is exclusive to Bowdoin. However, my social
location might constrain my ability in that reactions might be bias for or against the phenomenon
depending on whether the person uses this custom or not. I believe this is the best method because it
will enable me to see how this norm is introduced and manifested over time in the community. Before
entering Bowdoin students are told on campus tours and in info sessions about customs that are
particular to Bowdoin. They are told that a Bowdoin student strives for the common good and engages
in the Bowdoin hello. While on the tour they see their tour guide wave hello to all the people that pass
by whether they know them or not. However, this is not the case when you are actually a student on
campus and there are not any

Globalization of Healthcare
Globalization of Healthcare Globalization in healthcare is a topic that has been the subject of many
debates worldwide. While practically the entire world is becoming a global village due to
globalization, the healthcare industry was considered to be invulnerable to this trend. This was
attributed to the fact that healthcare is a service industry, where service is delivered on area of
purchase. However many developments not only in the healthcare industry but in the entire
economical sphere as a whole have seen the aspects of globalization. As a result globalization in the
healthcare industry is a common phenomenon in the contemporary world. As the healthcare industry

➢ High medical costs have also made some insurance companies seek for offshore medical services
that exceed twenty thousand dollars. Q2. Benefits and Losers of Healthcare Globalization
Globalization is changing the healthcare sector rapidly and radically through the circulation of medical
goods and services. Therefore, the core of globalization is on basis of multilateral agreements between
nations. However the very nature of globalization and the agreements between the developed country
and developing and underdeveloped country means that the process benefits the former while the
latter often loses or gets a meager trickle down from the benefits. For example in the case study it is
established that due to the shortage of radiologists in America, radiologists are often expensive and
take home a large paycheck of approximately $400,000. Outsourcing to Indian radiologists would not
only reduce the workload of the American radiologists but also cut costs. Cost cutting would be
achieved through cheaper professional fees for the Indian radiologist who gets approximately a tenth
of what their American counterpart receives. This means that globalization in this sense benefits the
American population and professionals, while the Indians lose. However, globalization could also
benefit the developing or underdeveloped nation like India through these practices. For example the
earnings that the Indian radiologist gets, though minimal in

King Isaac s Coat Of Many Colors
King Isaac s Coat of Many Colors
African societies have a widely held public opinion that artists, especially reggae artists are either
illiterates or take marijuana or other substances of abuse. As much as such stereotypes hold for some,
here is a man whose career has broken the barriers of such stereotypes.
As the door to the music studio opens, a neatly dressed, huge man of about 5 90 tall, and seemingly in
his early 50s, walks in. Call him King Isaac.
This is one of the rare occasions when he will allow a journalist to follow him to the studio.
With a notebook in hand, he sits and scribbles a few sentences and then move to the drums. As he
nods and taps, the rhythms of the reggae base drum sounds out. He whistles and moves over ... Show

What attracted him to music?
My interest grew when Bob Marley came in 1980. He had done a song called Zimbabwe,
commemorating our struggle for independence and our government invited him and he opened a
floodgate of reggae music, he recalls.
The youngster s inspiration and he soon changed his poetic messages of black pride, justice, love and
equality, to lyrics. I asked him why he switched to reggae.
The euphoria for independence, black liberation, those were the basic corner stones of the
Zimbabwean experience at that time, and the music was great.
Joining a local band made debut for him and recorded his first gig, Simuka , a reggae ice about the
liberation struggle in South Africa, in 1986. Simultaneously, he was studying for a Bachelor s degree
in Economic History and History at the University of Zimbabwe.
Listening to and admiring Jamaican reggae artist, I became a purist , he tells me. I felt the reggae of
Africans was diluted
Despite the early taste of success, King Isaac knew staying local might not be enough for him to make
it big. So, he looked for a way to get Jamaica. However, he cannot live in Jamaica because he has no
job or residence permit.

Gang Violence In Prison Essay
Gang violence is across the country and is a standout amongst the most noticeable issues in the prison
system today. Gangs are known to endeavor to control the penitentiaries/correctional facilities, ingrain
fear inside the jail framework and all through the general public, and convey negative attention to the
system. Gang affiliated inmates comprise about 18 percent of the 18000 inmate population
(Seabrook). A growing number of prisoners and a large amount of them serving longer sentences for
brutal violations propose a striking increment in gangs and violence in the prison system in the
upcoming future. Prisons began to bulge with gang members when states enacted tougher laws for
gang related crime in the mid to late 1980s (Martinez). On one hand the laws passed helped gang
members get off the street, yet in another way it also did not stop the gang violence and activity. In
many ways their number and power grew even more in prison (Martinez). The issue of gangs and
brutality has been addressed commonly during the time by the United States Correctional Board, but
the board hasn t taken the problem into a serious matter.
Most gang members in prisons are introduced to the gang life at an early age and enter prison a
member, but some become a member once behind bars mainly for the protection the gangs are known
to provide. Gangs are known to purposely intimidate other inmates, thus reinforcing the reason why
one out of every ten male inmates becomes a member once

Examples Of Prima Facie Case Of Obviousness
In the U.S., when examining a patent application with claims directed to novel chemical compounds,
an examiner may reject those claims under 35 U.S.C. § 103 as obvious over structurally similar
compounds in the prior art. In In re Hass,1the Federal Circuit held that structural obviousness is a
presumption of obviousness. However, this presumption can be rebutted if the applicant is able to
show the property of the claimed compound is different from the prior art compound. The court held
that a prima facie case of obviousness is not made unless the claimed invention is structurally similar.
2 The Federal Circuit established the Hass Henze test to whther the prima facie case of obviousness
may be rebutted.3 It is necessary for a plaintiff to demonstrate that (1) that the claimed compound or

Power In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Power is defined as the possession of control or command over others; authority... (Dictionary.com),
and all people have power, whether they notice it or not. Though some employ their power for
respectable reasons, often times power is not used in honorable ways. The matter of abuse of authority
is prevalent in the story Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. Steinbeck illustrates that those who
have power abuse it exceedingly often, as shown by Curley attacking countless others, including
Lennie, a mentally disabled man, Curley s wife mistreating the men of the ranch, and Curley s wife
making demeaning comments about Crooks, the African American stable buck. First, Curley exploits

resulting in a shameful battle between Curley and the detested man. His need to prove his seniority
usurps Curley s mind, and drives him psychotic until able to show himself better. This need, in turn,
forces the men into a position where they must assist Curley or potentially lose their job because of
the influence Curley can have on his father, resulting in the man whom Curley has quarrels with being
harmed. Additionally, Curley elects to fight other men for any type of provocation. For instance, he

and George were going to own. As a result, the men engaged in an altercation in

Periodic Trends Are Specific Patterns That Are Present
Periodic trends are specific patterns that are present in the periodic table they illustrate different
aspects of a certain element, including its size and its properties. Major periodic trends include:
Electronegativity
Ionization energy
Electron affinity
Atomic radius
Melting point
Metallic character
Periodic trends, arising from the arrangement of the periodic table, provide chemists and scientists
with a helpful tool to quickly predict an element s properties. These trends exist because of the similar
atomic structure of the elements within their respective group families or periods, and because of the
periodic nature of the elements.
Electronegativity Trends
The definition of electronegativity is how strongly an atom can ... Show more content on

On the left hand side of the periodic table the elements have a half full valance shell, so meaning that
it is a higher energy level to gain electrons to fill that valance shell compared to less energy to lose the
electrons to complete the valance shell. Element on the left side usually lose electrons to form a bond.
Therefor elements on the right side are more energy efficient in gaining a set of electrons to fill the
valance shell. In a periodic table from left to right across a period, electronegativity increases. If the
valance shell is less than half full the atom loses electrons to balance out and the opposite if the atom
has a valance shell over half full. In a group from top to bottom electronegativity decreases. There is
an important exception noble gases, lanthanides, and actinides do not have electronegativity
principles, this is because they have a full valance shell so they do not usually attract electrons. And as
for transition metals, even though they have electronegativity values, they are little different going up
and down a group and going across a period. This is because of the transition metals, metallic
properties which affect their ability to attract electrons.
Ionisation Energy Trends
Ionisation energy is defined as the energy required for the removal of an electron from a neutral atom
in its vaporous phase. In theory, ionisation energy has to opposite characteristic to

march of Dr. King and his comrades to seek justice for the unfair treatment of people of color. In the

The Similarities And Differences Of Panda s Adaptation
Pandas are very unique animals, and they have many adaptations that can help them survive. These
interesting mammals are extinct, so there are only about 1,300 to 2,000 of them left in bamboo forests.
Pandas live in the central regions of China. They live in cool, wet bamboo forests, so it is easier for
them to find food. A pandas latin name is Ailuropoda malenoleuca. Ailuropoda stands for black and
white mammal of Bamboo Forests, and malenoleuca stands for member of the bear family. Pandas are
one of the most interesting mammals out there, because of their outstanding adaptations. Pandas have
many structural adaptations. One of their adaptations is that pandas have six toes instead of five. The

One behavioral adaptation that is very common for a panda to have is making their way down the
mountain closer to winter time. When it s gets closer to the winter season, pandas start to suffer
because it gets really cold. Even though a panda has fur, the coldness can still makes it way past their
fur to their skin. The top of the mountain during the winter is the coldest place to be during this time.
Traveling down the mountain can make it easier for pandas to survive during this rough time.
Pandas have so many unique adaptations besides their sixth toe, strong jaw muscles, and how they
make their way down the mountain. There is one adaptation that helps them through their whole life
and they wouldn t know what to do without it. When a panda is a baby, their mother will play
aggressively with them to enhance their survival skills. Without this way of learning a panda may not
be able to survive when in a fight. When a mother plays with a cub, the cub starts to learn how to
think fast, act back, and know exactly what to do when being attacked. This survival skill allows the
panda to live a longer

Comparing Two Works Of Art Essay
Comparing two works of art
For my final project, I will compare two pieces of art and show the comparisons and differences that
they have in the Greek ancient period and the modern period of the same theme the representation of
the Trojan war . The visual work art is a bilingual art because it was made with the participation of
two artists, Andokides (Red figure) and the Lysippides (Black figure) and it is titled Achilles and Ajax
Playing a Dice a Game . It was painted in 525 520 B.C in Greece and it represents the ancient Greece.
The literary artwork I will consider is The Iliad, an epic poem by the ancient Greek poet Homer in 750
BCE. I will compare both artworks and connect them to the contemporary period debating the
similarities and differences that the poem and the ceramic have and how they influenced our modern
world, which help the creation of the film Troy led by Brad Pitt, Eric Bana and Orlando Bloom in
2004.
The bilingual amphora was painted in Athens, Greece during the ancient Greek period in a black
figure and red figure style. This was a typical style in Athens, Greece at that time and it was mainly to
decorate fine pottery. Most of the amphoras were made in sections initially (neck and body) and were
put together afterwards (the foot and handles). This pottery was not for everyday use, but it was
affordable for most of the population. This fine Greek pottery goes back to the Minoan and
Mycenaean pottery of the Bronze Age. The black figure technique focused

surgery, to being married off to the older man with out her consent. Her first real choice in life was
when Bayoumi asked if she liked tangerine or oranges. When she starts off as a prostitute she sees all
these choices she can make and loves it. However towards the end she realizes that she does not
actually have any choices. The second time in her life she really has any choice is when she is in
prison. Firdaus s first sexual encounter is with a bout named Mohammadain. They play a game called
Bride and Bridegroom, this game involves them taking off their clothes and rubbing against each
other. Firdaus gets a sense of pleasure from it and sadly this will be the last time she will get pleasure
from a sexual activity. The reason for this is her mother catches her and forces her to undergo a
surgery. This surgery is a matter of tradition but Firdaus feels like this tradition is just a way

Totalitarianism In The Hunger Games
Topic #4 [insert title]
The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins illustrates a dystopian society where the government tries to
apply a perfect society to maintain the power in all of Panem. The author shows an elaborate and
horrifying description of a society not so unlike our own and provides a clear warning about the
danger of governmental control. The government of Panem has a government which controls
everything. The government shows totalitarianism, a post apocalyptic setting, and the world ranks.
These three main points are what shows how the The Hunger Games is a great example of a dystopian
literature.
The Hunger Games promotes the idea of a total government control. The Capitol controls everything
that the twelve districts do. The world of Panem is divided into 12 districts where each district has its
own role to fulfill from luxury to coal mining. Taking the kids from our districts, forcing them to kill
one another while we watch. This is the Capitol s way of reminding us how totally we are at their
mercy (Collins 18). This shows that the districts all pay a yearly sacrifice to the Capitol in the form of
tributes. Another of showing that the Games is a dystopian society is that any evidence of an act of
rebellion will result in the government having to kill anyone who gets in their way. Look how he take
your children and sacrifice them there is nothing you can do. If you lift a finger, we will destroy every
last one of you. Just as we did in District 13 (18).

Analysis Of Lord Of The Flies And Hunger Games By...
The concept of civil culture is one often glorified within society, yet its power depends wholly on the
ethical nature of those who uphold it. The novels, Lord of The Flies by William Golding and The
Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, demonstrate this prospect as through the narrative techniques of
characterisation, plot, setting and style, they exemplify the moral decline of man under pressure to
survive, ultimately resulting in savagery. Characterisation plays a major role in both texts as each
character serves as a representation humanity and the faults within it. Throughout Lord of the Flies
there is a developing inequality among the characters as social order is established based on the
strength and ability of each. Consequently the weakest of those characters are placed at the mercy of
the strongest, in essence giving them the power that motivates their transformation from well
mannered British boys to unrestrained savages. Likewise inequality is demonstrated to the same extent
within the Hunger Games as the weaker, less experienced tributes are hunted by the Careers , a pack
of brutal children who become natural and effective killers. Throughout both novels, the characters
place great significance on appearance, as how they are perceived by others factors into their survival.
In The Hunger Games a certain appearance wins the support of sponsors, who may well mean the
difference between life and death, If you appeal to the crowd,

Periodic Limb Research Paper
What is Periodic Limb Movement Disorder?
Periodic limb movements are when you have episodes of simple, repetitive muscle movements. You
are unable to control them. They usually do not keep you from falling asleep. Instead, they severely
disrupt your sleep during the night. This can cause you to be very tired during the day. They do not
involve a change in body position, stretching a muscle, or a cramp. Instead, the movements tend to
involve the tightening or flexing of a muscle. They occur most often in the lower legs
Symptoms of Periodic Limb Movement Disorder
They can occur at two different times: o Periodic limb movements while you sleep (PLMS) o Periodic
limb movements while you are awake (PLMW)

Other Common Conditions Associated with Periodic Limb Movement Disorder
High rates of PLMS have been found in some people with:
Spinal cord injury
Multiple system atrophy (a rare neurological disorder)
Sleep related eating disorder (SRED)
The following medications are thought to cause PLMS or make them worse:
Some antidepressants
Lithium
Dopamine receptor antagonists (e.g., some anti nausea medications)
Data is not certain about a link between PLMS and the following:
Kidney disease
Parkinson disease
ADHD (attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
Pregnancy
Posttraumatic stress disorder
Multiple sclerosis (MS)
Why Seek Help for Periodic Limb Movement Disorder
To improve the quality of the patient s and bed partner s sleep
To determine if PLMD is caused by another medical condition
How We Treat Periodic Limb Movement Disorder
When it is necessary to treat PLMS, the same drugs that are used for restless legs syndrome also work
for PLMS. These include drugs that replace a chemical in the brain called dopamine. These drugs are
also used to treat Parkinson s disease. However, if you have PLMS, you are not at an increased risk of

Trauma And Memory
Popular press and peer reviewed articles differ in writing style, formatting, and content, given their
different readerships. That is, popular press articles generally cater to the general public while peer
reviewed articles cater to academic scholars. This essay compares popular press and peer reviewed
articles to assess their differences, similarities, and potential uses. In pursuit of this assessment, this
essay explores how the topic of trauma and memory is addressed in Why Rape and Trauma Survivors

First, both articles address the topic of trauma and memory with respect to the psychological processes
in trauma survivors. Both articles acknowledge the importance of neuropathology as having a role in
memory impairment and recollection. Second, both articles make conclusions based on the evidence
they present. The Time article concludes that advances in our understanding of brain physiology will
affect the admissibility of victim narratives in court, while the Memory article uses Interpretive
Poetics to make conclusions about future research on memory and the need to make disclosure of
trauma narratives socially acceptable. With these factors in mind, popular press and peer reviewed
articles are beneficial in different situations. If someone wants to gain a general understanding of a
topic, reading articles from popular press magazines such as Time would provide a good introduction
for the topic. However, if someone wants to explore a topic in more detail, peer reviewed articles
would provide original research and analyses. Peer reviewed articles also have citations to other
pertinent papers, allowing readers to further their exploration of different topics of

1. What fundamental factors drew the Europeans to the exploration, conquest, and colonization of the

European explorations have been hearing a lot about all the natural resources that the New World can

3. What efforts were made to strengthen English control over the colonies in the seventeenth century,
and why did they generally fail?
After the civil wars that were going on in Europe, England tried to restore their authority on the
colonies and make sure that throne was still powerful. After the British throne had been restored by
Charles II, he wanted to be able to control his colonies more strictly. However, he was surprised that
the orders he have made were not being followed in Massachusetts. The colonies were being taxed a
lot by the English and they also sent out governors of their own to try to take charge of the colonies
and made sure that the British laws were being enforced. Charles II wanted to continue the English
rule in the New World and tried to overpower the colonies. It generally failed because the English
were fighting civil wars themselves, and colonies were left insolated for many years. This can be
argued in a good and bad way. The colonies started becoming independent and did not like the idea of
being ruled under England anymore. They liked the idea that they were free from England s rule,
which foreshadows

The Main Challenges Facing Charitable Finances On The Uk...
What have been the main challenges facing charitable finances in the UK during the last decade? To

Britain remains one of the world s most generous nations. But cash is tight for everyone and people
are finding it harder and harder to find money to give to charity. Through the course of the financial
crisis in the UK during the last decade, many charities have been affected. But before I continue we
must explore the causes of this phenomenon. The recent UK financial began with the austere credit

Huffintongpost (2012) suggests that the recession had made it possible for household to cut back on
their charitable giving. This decline also included the number of people who give to charity. The high
rate of the credit crunch led to the Charities Aid Foundation to carry out a survey in collaboration with
the National Council for Voluntary Organisation (NCVO), suggested that financial issues faced in the

Class Reflection Essay
I went to Ning s informational speech section. The classroom is located room 209 at Williams
Building (WMS). It took me a while to find this building because I seldom go to the area around
Westcott Fountain. Williams is large compound building that served as lecture halls and classrooms
for undergraduate s general education courses. Room 209 is where the public speech class took place.
It is a middle size classroom in the corner and next to a lounge area. I saw some of the students
rehearsal their informative speech at the lounge when I arrived early and wait for Ning to come. Ning
s class has 15 students with varying major background. On the day I visited, most of the students came
to class on time. Three students arrived about 5 minutes late, and Ning said she would mark them as
late. Ning told me that too many late marks would negatively affect the student s participation final
grade. I learned a lot of teaching skills from Ning, such as how to start the class lively, how to
organize student s speech and how to claim down students when facing unpredicted things. Ning
started her class by showing a video clip of humorous talk show. I think it is an effective way to
reduce student s pre performance anxiety. She then overviewed what the class was going to do and
gave updates on class assignments. Then, Ning asked volunteer students give the first speech. Others
could just step to the front if they felt like they are ready to go. I think this is the best way to

Theme Of Cannery Row
From the stock market crashing almost rock bottom to banks filing for bankruptcy, the Great
Depression was a time of economic hardship for many people. Steinbeck s Cannery Row depicts a
small community of misfits isolated from most of society. The novel follows the stories of these
characters, interrupting itself occasionally with a snippet of another tale from within the community.
Cannery Row explores the theme of yin yang within a community. Henri, a painter, wants to maintain
the image of a painter instead of actually painting. Dora, the head of a brothel, balances running a tight
ship while taking care of her girls at the same time. Doc, a scientist who lives in his lab, has a mixture
of conflicting personalities. Throughout the novel, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Doc is a popular community member that s there whenever anyone need him. He is described by the
narrator of the novel as half Christ and half satyr (Steinbeck 28). By describing Doc as half Christ,
Steinbeck shows that Doc is very admired within the community. Many of the young community
members like Frankie look up to him as a god because of his wise knowledge and he is kind to
everyone. By describing Doc as a satyr, it shows of his imperfect human side. Similar to satyrs, Doc is
an alcoholic and a player. Steinbeck s use of juxtaposition by showing both Doc s strengths and vices
highlights the idea that everyone has multiple sides to their personality. Another example is when Doc
recalls a poet s recommendation to try a beer milkshake because he loved beer so much. He had
wondered what a beer milkshake would taste like. The idea gagged him but he couldn t let it alone
(Steinbeck 103). The beer milkshake is a metaphor for the juxtaposition of his personality. A
milkshake is something that most people like and is very sweet and innocent. A beer is a form of sin
because it is alcohol. By combining the two together, Steinbeck highlights the contrasting forces of
personality within Doc. The fact that Doc has both strengths and weaknesses and that there are
clashing character traits within Doc demonstrates that everyone

with characters, but the fact is that in the end, you are satisfied with story.

Nature symbolizes peace and calm. There were lots of parts and scenes situated in the nature.
Especially in the forest or meadow. One very important section of the story happened in the forest,
when Tess was raped by Angel.
I found another unexpected thing in this story. Even though, the whole story takes place in Victorian
England, there are mentioned some other countries. For example Brazil. Isn´t it weird? Angel wanted
to start a new career there. In this story Brazil isn´t holiday destination or place for relax. It´s place for
the new start, which Angel needed a lot. Why did he chose Brazil? In hypothetical way, I think that he
have chosen this country, because as we know it´s very religious country and as I said few lines above,
his name was pretty religious too.
As I said this story was about an innocent girl called Tess. She was from poor family and she has met
2 man and many other people on her way. Mens names were Alec and Angel. At the beginning of the
story Tess father recognized that they are from nobel family. He also thought that this finding could
pull out them from poverty. So he sent Tess to find out who they are and get some money from their
ancestors. On her way, she meets Alec, who wants to get her. He raped her in the forest and Tess
became pregnant. Childs name was Sorrow. Tess moved into her parents house into the little village
called Marlott. Every person in the village knew her story and they judged

The Oligarch s Idea Of Athenian Democracy

his loaves of bread into the shape of animals, served as herald and sacrificed a boar to the Goddess

begin. However, it seems Demeter was not immediately impressed with the offering, as shortly
thereafter a rain quall blew in from the Saronic Gulf and brought upon a deluge that dismayed
hundreds of Athenians attending the Assembly and innervated their sense to flee the area. Those

Abraham Lincoln Contributions
Throughout history there have been numerous Americans who have contributed to the development of
America. From the long lists of names, there is always one name that rises above all the others,
Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln is commonly known as the one of the nation s greatest president because of
his accomplishments and achievements, especially during the civil war. However, even before his
presidency, Lincoln had a respectable reputation amongst the people. He was known to defuse the
tension between two people through his humor and optimistic view of life. Lincoln s victory in the
election of 1860 caused the South to secede from the union, thus creating a costly and bloody war that
forever changed America. Although it was one of the worst times in American history, Lincoln
remained loyal to the people and was a strong leader throughout his presidency; his contributions to
America will never be forgotten. Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin Country,
Kentucky. His parents were Thomas and Nancy Lincoln who raised him with a modest upbringing. At
a young age, Lincoln lost his mother to a milk sickness in 1818. Just over a year of his mother s death,
his father remarried to Sarah Johnston, a strong and loving woman with whom Abraham had quickly
become close to. Due to a land dispute in 1817, the Lincolns were forced to move to Perry County,
Indiana. In 1830, they moved again to Macon County, Illinois and then again to Coles County.

Chinese people are used to a relatively strong hierarchical structure. Promotions at work are in many cases based on age before ability. The young, in turn, are deferential and respectful to their older co workers and business associate, the advice and opinions of an older worker are generally valued more than the words of a younger person. In Lithuania there are differences between young entrepreneurs and older businesspeople. Younger businesspeople generally have a less bureaucratic approach. Management style in China tends towards the directive, with the senior manager giving instructions to their direct reports who in turn pass on the instructions down the line. It is not expected that subordinates will question the decisions of superiors that would be to show disrespect and be the direct cause of loss of face (mianzi) for all concerned. In a business negotiation or meeting setting space orientation will be private more physical distance between individual participants and no physical contact but office situation space is more large open spaces are filled with many desks.  Management strategies As a manager you should act in a more flexible, improvised manner. If one wants to successfully coordinate work with a Chinese, one tends to have more communication to stay in his mind. • 4. Bowdoin Social Phenomenon Bowdoin College, better known as the Bowdoin bubble, has within it sociological phenomenon that helps it maintain social cohesion. One of these social phenomenon is the Bowdoin hello. The Bowdoin hello is the act of students greeting one another on campus and downtown. However, the practice of this tradition has extended itself to people in cars at crosswalks and random people on the Bowdoin campus. This phenomenon maintains social cohesion on campus because it attempts draws together a community that is constantly changing. With the incoming diversity on campus it serves to reaffirm what Bowdoin stands for, a welcoming community for everyone. I will examine the material that they distribute to the incoming class that pertains to etiquette and norms displayed on campus. Then I will engage in informal conversations ethnographically as a complete participant with students about their views and uses of the Bowdoin hello. By immersing myself as a complete participant I will be able to receive answers that have more credibility. I will also utilize my personal experiences from when I entered Bowdoin as a first year and I will attempt to breach the phenomenon to observe the outcome. The social location, which is Bowdoin s campus, will enable my ability to observe the phenomenon because it is exclusive to Bowdoin. However, my social location might constrain my ability in that reactions might be bias for or against the phenomenon depending on whether the person uses this custom or not. I believe this is the best method because it will enable me to see how this norm is introduced and manifested over time in the community. Before entering Bowdoin students are told on campus tours and in info sessions about customs that are particular to Bowdoin. They are told that a Bowdoin student strives for the common good and engages in the Bowdoin hello. While on the tour they see their tour guide wave hello to all the people that pass by whether they know them or not. While practically the entire world is becoming a global village due to globalization, the healthcare industry was considered to be invulnerable to this trend. This was attributed to the fact that healthcare is a service industry, where service is delivered on area of purchase. However many developments not only in the healthcare industry but in the entire economical sphere as a whole have seen the aspects of globalization. As a result globalization in the healthcare industry is a common phenomenon in the contemporary world. As the healthcare industry across global boundaries becomes increasingly intertwined, ... Benefits and Losers of Healthcare Globalization Globalization is changing the healthcare sector rapidly and radically through the circulation of medical goods and services. Therefore, the core of globalization is on basis of multilateral agreements between nations. However the very nature of globalization and the agreements between the developed country and developing and underdeveloped country means that the process benefits the former while the latter often loses or gets a meager trickle down from the benefits. For example in the case study it is established that due to the shortage of radiologists in America, radiologists are often expensive and take home a large paycheck of approximately $400,000. Outsourcing to Indian radiologists would not only reduce the workload of the American radiologists but also cut costs. Cost cutting would be achieved through cheaper professional fees for the Indian radiologist who gets approximately a tenth of what their American counterpart receives. This means that globalization in this sense benefits the American population and professionals, while the Indians lose. However, globalization could also benefit the developing or underdeveloped nation like India through these practices. For example the earnings that the Indian radiologist gets, though minimal in ... King Isaac s Coat Of Many Colors King Isaac s Coat of Many Colors African societies have a widely held public opinion that artists, especially reggae artists are either illiterates or take marijuana or other substances of abuse. As much as such stereotypes hold for some, here is a man whose career has broken the barriers of such stereotypes. As the door to the music studio opens, a neatly dressed, huge man of about 5 90 tall, and seemingly in his early 50s, walks in. Call him King Isaac. This is one of the rare occasions when he will allow a journalist to follow him to the studio. With a notebook in hand, he sits and scribbles a few sentences and then move to the drums. As he nods and taps, the rhythms of the reggae base drum sounds out. He whistles and moves over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What attracted him to music? My interest grew when Bob Marley came in 1980. He had done a song called Zimbabwe, commemorating our struggle for independence and our government invited him and he opened a floodgate of reggae music, he recalls. The youngster s inspiration and he soon changed his poetic messages of black pride, justice, love and equality, to lyrics. I asked him why he switched to reggae. The euphoria for independence, black liberation, those were the basic corner stones of the Zimbabwean experience at that time, and the music was great. Joining a local band made debut for him and recorded his first gig, Simuka , a reggae ice about the liberation struggle in South Africa, in 1986. Simultaneously, he was studying for a Bachelor s degree in Economic History and History at the University of Zimbabwe. • 8. Gang Violence In Prison Essay Gang violence is across the country and is a standout amongst the most noticeable issues in the prison system today. Gangs are known to endeavor to control the penitentiaries/correctional facilities, ingrain fear inside the jail framework and all through the general public, and convey negative attention to the system. Gang affiliated inmates comprise about 18 percent of the 18000 inmate population (Seabrook). A growing number of prisoners and a large amount of them serving longer sentences for brutal violations propose a striking increment in gangs and violence in the prison system in the upcoming future. Prisons began to bulge with gang members when states enacted tougher laws for gang related crime in the mid to late 1980s (Martinez). On one hand the laws passed helped gang members get off the street, yet in another way it also did not stop the gang violence and activity. In many ways their number and power grew even more in prison (Martinez). The issue of gangs and brutality has been addressed commonly during the time by the United States Correctional Board, but the board hasn t taken the problem into a serious matter. Most gang members in prisons are introduced to the gang life at an early age and enter prison a member, but some become a member once behind bars mainly for the protection the gangs are known to provide. Periodic Trends Are Specific Patterns That Are Present Periodic trends are specific patterns that are present in the periodic table they illustrate different aspects of a certain element, including its size and its properties. Major periodic trends include: Electronegativity Ionization energy Electron affinity Atomic radius Melting point Metallic character Periodic trends, arising from the arrangement of the periodic table, provide chemists and scientists with a helpful tool to quickly predict an element s properties. These trends exist because of the similar atomic structure of the elements within their respective group families or periods, and because of the periodic nature of the elements. On the left hand side of the periodic table the elements have a half full valance shell, so meaning that it is a higher energy level to gain electrons to fill that valance shell compared to less energy to lose the electrons to complete the valance shell. Element on the left side usually lose electrons to form a bond. Therefor elements on the right side are more energy efficient in gaining a set of electrons to fill the valance shell. In a periodic table from left to right across a period, electronegativity increases. If the valance shell is less than half full the atom loses electrons to balance out and the opposite if the atom has a valance shell over half full. In a group from top to bottom electronegativity decreases. There is an important exception noble gases, lanthanides, and actinides do not have electronegativity principles, this is because they have a full valance shell so they do not usually attract electrons. And as for transition metals, even though they have electronegativity values, they are little different going up and down a group and going across a period. The visual work art is a bilingual art because it was made with the participation of two artists, Andokides (Red figure) and the Lysippides (Black figure) and it is titled Achilles and Ajax Playing a Dice a Game . It was painted in 525 520 B.C in Greece and it represents the ancient Greece. The literary artwork I will consider is The Iliad, an epic poem by the ancient Greek poet Homer in 750 BCE. • 21. Totalitarianism In The Hunger Games Topic #4 [insert title] The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins illustrates a dystopian society where the government tries to apply a perfect society to maintain the power in all of Panem. The author shows an elaborate and horrifying description of a society not so unlike our own and provides a clear warning about the danger of governmental control. The government of Panem has a government which controls everything. The government shows totalitarianism, a post apocalyptic setting, and the world ranks. These three main points are what shows how the The Hunger Games is a great example of a dystopian literature. The Hunger Games promotes the idea of a total government control. The Capitol controls everything that the twelve districts do. The world of Panem is divided into 12 districts where each district has its own role to fulfill from luxury to coal mining. Taking the kids from our districts, forcing them to kill one another while we watch. This is the Capitol s way of reminding us how totally we are at their mercy (Collins 18). This shows that the districts all pay a yearly sacrifice to the Capitol in the form of tributes. Another of showing that the Games is a dystopian society is that any evidence of an act of rebellion will result in the government having to kill anyone who gets in their way. Look how he take your children and sacrifice them there is nothing you can do. If you lift a finger, we will destroy every last one of you. Just as we did in District 13 (18). ... • 22. Analysis Of Lord Of The Flies And Hunger Games By... The concept of civil culture is one often glorified within society, yet its power depends wholly on the ethical nature of those who uphold it. The novels, Lord of The Flies by William Golding and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, demonstrate this prospect as through the narrative techniques of characterisation, plot, setting and style, they exemplify the moral decline of man under pressure to survive, ultimately resulting in savagery. Characterisation plays a major role in both texts as each character serves as a representation humanity and the faults within it. Throughout Lord of the Flies there is a developing inequality among the characters as social order is established based on the strength and ability of each. Consequently the weakest of those characters are placed at the mercy of the strongest, in essence giving them the power that motivates their transformation from well mannered British boys to unrestrained savages. Likewise inequality is demonstrated to the same extent within the Hunger Games as the weaker, less experienced tributes are hunted by the Careers , a pack of brutal children who become natural and effective killers. Throughout both novels, the characters place great significance on appearance, as how they are perceived by others factors into their survival. In The Hunger Games a certain appearance wins the support of sponsors, who may well mean the difference between life and death, If you appeal to the crowd, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There were many fundamental factors that drew the Europeans to the exploration, conquest, and colonization of the World such as natural resources, overpopulation and religion. The European explorations have been hearing a lot about all the natural resources that the New World can offer to them. They wanted to travel and find the Far East for the gold, silk, spices, and possible crops that they may be able to bring back to Europe. They believed that the New World would be able to offer all of the natural resources that they may need in order to survive in Europe. They were also very fond of gold and all the other ... In result, landowners started to use African slavery as their source of labor. They were free and landowners did not have to worry about paying for the African slaves. 3. What efforts were made to strengthen English control over the colonies in the seventeenth century, and why did they generally fail? After the civil wars that were going on in Europe, England tried to restore their authority on the colonies and make sure that throne was still powerful. After the British throne had been restored by Charles II, he wanted to be able to control his colonies more strictly. However, he was surprised that the orders he have made were not being followed in Massachusetts. The colonies were being taxed a lot by the English and they also sent out governors of their own to try to take charge of the colonies and made sure that the British laws were being enforced. Charles II wanted to continue the English rule in the New World and tried to overpower the colonies. It generally failed because the English were fighting civil wars themselves, and colonies were left insolated for many years. This can be argued in a good and bad way. The colonies started becoming independent and did not like the idea of being ruled under England anymore. They liked the idea that they were free from England s rule, which foreshadows ... But cash is tight for everyone and people are finding it harder and harder to find money to give to charity. Through the course of the financial crisis in the UK during the last decade, many charities have been affected. But before I continue we must explore the causes of this phenomenon. Whilst medium sized charities with an income between £500k and £10m, saw their voluntary donations actually increase by 2.2 percent over the same period (CAF, 2009). Charity finances were affected through the drop in donations from people. According to Huffintongpost (2012) suggests that the recession had made it possible for household to cut back on their charitable giving. This decline also included the number of people who give to charity. The high rate of the credit crunch led to the Charities Aid Foundation to carry out a survey in collaboration with the National Council for Voluntary Organisation (NCVO), suggested that financial issues faced in the UK has forced frontline services of some charities to cut back on some of the services they offered as they had to make staff redundant or in certain case force to close down because of the fall donations. • 33. Class Reflection Essay I went to Ning s informational speech section. The classroom is located room 209 at Williams Building (WMS). It took me a while to find this building because I seldom go to the area around Westcott Fountain. Williams is large compound building that served as lecture halls and classrooms for undergraduate s general education courses. Room 209 is where the public speech class took place. It is a middle size classroom in the corner and next to a lounge area. I saw some of the students rehearsal their informative speech at the lounge when I arrived early and wait for Ning to come. Ning s class has 15 students with varying major background. On the day I visited, most of the students came to class on time. Three students arrived about 5 minutes late, and Ning said she would mark them as late. Ning told me that too many late marks would negatively affect the student s participation final grade. I learned a lot of teaching skills from Ning, such as how to start the class lively, how to organize student s speech and how to claim down students when facing unpredicted things. Ning started her class by showing a video clip of humorous talk show. I think it is an effective way to reduce student s pre performance anxiety. She then overviewed what the class was going to do and gave updates on class assignments. Then, Ning asked volunteer students give the first speech. Others could just step to the front if they felt like they are ready to go. I think this is the best way to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Theme Of Cannery Row From the stock market crashing almost rock bottom to banks filing for bankruptcy, the Great Depression was a time of economic hardship for many people. Steinbeck s Cannery Row depicts a small community of misfits isolated from most of society. The novel follows the stories of these characters, interrupting itself occasionally with a snippet of another tale from within the community. Cannery Row explores the theme of yin yang within a community. Henri, a painter, wants to maintain the image of a painter instead of actually painting. Dora, the head of a brothel, balances running a tight ship while taking care of her girls at the same time. Doc, a scientist who lives in his lab, has a mixture of conflicting personalities. Throughout the novel, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Doc is a popular community member that s there whenever anyone need him. He is described by the narrator of the novel as half Christ and half satyr (Steinbeck 28). By describing Doc as half Christ, Steinbeck shows that Doc is very admired within the community. Many of the young community members like Frankie look up to him as a god because of his wise knowledge and he is kind to everyone. By describing Doc as a satyr, it shows of his imperfect human side. Similar to satyrs, Doc is an alcoholic and a player. Steinbeck s use of juxtaposition by showing both Doc s strengths and vices highlights the idea that everyone has multiple sides to their personality. Another example is when Doc recalls a poet s recommendation to try a beer milkshake because he loved beer so much. He had wondered what a beer milkshake would taste like. The idea gagged him but he couldn t let it alone (Steinbeck 103). The beer milkshake is a metaphor for the juxtaposition of his personality. A milkshake is something that most people like and is very sweet and innocent. A beer is a form of sin because it is alcohol. By combining the two together, Steinbeck highlights the contrasting forces of personality within Doc. The fact that Doc has both strengths and weaknesses and that there are clashing character traits within Doc demonstrates that everyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There were lots of parts and scenes situated in the nature. Especially in the forest or meadow. One very important section of the story happened in the forest, when Tess was raped by Angel. I found another unexpected thing in this story. Even though, the whole story takes place in Victorian England, there are mentioned some other countries. For example Brazil. Isn´t it weird? Angel wanted to start a new career there. In this story Brazil isn´t holiday destination or place for relax. It´s place for the new start, which Angel needed a lot. Why did he chose Brazil? In hypothetical way, I think that he have chosen this country, because as we know it´s very religious country and as I said few lines above, his name was pretty religious too. As I said this story was about an innocent girl called Tess. She was from poor family and she has met 2 man and many other people on her way. Mens names were Alec and Angel. At the beginning of the story Tess father recognized that they are from nobel family. He also thought that this finding could pull out them from poverty. The Oligarch s Idea Of Athenian Democracy On the first meeting of the Assembly at the Pnyx, Thearion, the celebrity baker who intriguingly bakes his loaves of bread into the shape of animals, served as herald and sacrificed a boar to the Goddess Demeter, hoping she would bless the day and allow for the rebuild and healing of Athens to decisively begin. However, it seems Demeter was not immediately impressed with the offering, as shortly thereafter a rain quall blew in from the Saronic Gulf and brought upon a deluge that dismayed hundreds of Athenians attending the Assembly and innervated their sense to flee the area. From the long lists of names, there is always one name that rises above all the others, Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln is commonly known as the one of the nation s greatest president because of his accomplishments and achievements, especially during the civil war. However, even before his presidency, Lincoln had a respectable reputation amongst the people. He was known to defuse the tension between two people through his humor and optimistic view of life. Lincoln s victory in the election of 1860 caused the South to secede from the union, thus creating a costly and bloody war that forever changed America. Although it was one of the worst times in American history, Lincoln remained loyal to the people and was a strong leader throughout his presidency; his contributions to America will never be forgotten. Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin Country, Kentucky. His parents were Thomas and Nancy Lincoln who raised him with a modest upbringing. At a young age, Lincoln lost his mother to a milk sickness in 1818. Just over a year of his mother s death, his father remarried to Sarah Johnston, a strong and loving woman with whom Abraham had quickly become close to.
