Executive Leadership Succession Management Program
Section Two: Vetting Alternative Solutions The above ideas on how to address the opportunities in the
Starbucks case are prioritized from highest to lowest ideas. The criteria used was looking at solving
the key gaps, providing for long term sustainability, positively impacting the company s profitability,
and cost of solution. The top three will be explored in further detail below.
Executive leadership succession management program
Tracking and creating ways to decrease employee turnover
Training on producing quality beverages and customer service
Hiring and selection using person job, person organization match, and realistic and brand approach
Hiring a new regional employee for innovation
Training of youth and undereducated racial and ethnic minorities, women and older workers.
Onboarding program for new hires
Succession planning for key positions (not executive leadership) Executive leadership succession
management program. From this case analysis, the key to the opportunities at Starbuck resulted in not
having a succession management program and the cause of loss to their competitive advantage. This
resulted in poor hiring and training of their partners, decreasing the quality of the beverages prepared,
innovation, and customer service. This solution ranks number one due to its potential to solve all of
the gaps identified and put Starbucks back on its successful path of sustained competitive advantage.
This is also a solution to plan and

The Destruction Of Offred In The Handmaid s Tale
After failing to change Iliad s misguided ways, Offred is taken away from her home by strange men,
but she is not frantic nor worried. After losing all that she holds dear, she sees no purpose and has
grown accustomed to the present state of cruelty and mistreatment. [She is] orderly and calm, and
Atwood makes it clear that this is her biggest fear (287). Transitioning from a fighter of progress
working against the system to one adjusted and relented to rampant injustice, Offred embodies the
theme of Atwood s messaging. Quietly accepting her fate, she has little drive within motivating her
further to tackle her suppressors and resist. She simply [steps] up into the van taking her away and
peacefully enters into the darkness within, (295) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Iliad, women abandon their identity, freedom, sanity, and hope to conform, but eventually, they end
up giving up much more than they bargain for: themselves. Offred is only a whim (159) in the eyes of
this society and she too comes to believe it herself. To her commander who controls her entire life, she
is merely a toy or tool. To her superiors, she is just a method for repopulation. To her friends, she is
only a source of companionship. To Atwood, she is a sign that silence and acceptance should be
feared. Because [she has] been emptied (282) by society and those around her, Atwood clarifies these
hazards of ignorance, which are additionally expanded upon through Offred s transformation. It may
seem inconsequential at first, but one may become so deeply entangled in this new world, such as
Iliad, that the line between truth and fiction, good and evil is blurred. An enemy is difficult to fight
when one cannot see nor comprehend it, and Atwood s characterizes Offred as a girl condemned to her
reality because she is unable to see her foe. More than that, she is alone or feels like she is. When
detailing her story, Offred [feels] as if [she is] talking to a wall and she has no one to confide in with.
She [feels] so alone (195). In society, real and fictitious, those who are isolated do not stand a chance,
and when they are powerless and solitary,

Charlemagne s Disappearance
After the fall of Rome, havoc descended upon Europe as it fell into a dark age of chaos and
destruction. Everything that the Romans had ever aspired to build was put into disfunction. As the
people were free from a governing rule, the long period of peace was over. The previous Roman
citizens were left with a new world that they had not experienced before one without a job to works in,
a job to feed their families. They no longer had anyone to pay taxes to. As a result, all of the other
benefits of the kingdom such as the aqueducts and the roads, were no longer being repaired. Daily life
was a struggle, as barbarians ruled the streets, making homes and camps out of great monuments such
as the Coliseum and the Circus Maximus. However, around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

To start, Charlemagne was respected by his people because he gave people what they needed: a better
way to live life. He provided free education for all of the people in his kingdom, by creating new
schools to educate his people to have a better life. As a result, Charlemagne became even more
likable, with the people enjoying a chance to have a better education as well as a better view point of a
life less barbaric. Next, Charlemagne tried to be more than a ruler and more a part of the community.
One of the reasons why Charlemagne is so famous is because he tried to educate himself. He was
described by Einhard as a great teacher, as he was capable in multiple languages, along with being
taught by some great teachers. Rather that being a great ruler by educating his people, he became an
even greater ruler by educating himself. By doing this, his people had even more faith in the fact that
he was going to rule properly, that every decision that he made was well thought out. Born into a
period where education was scarce if existent, this was an astonishing act. Lastly, Charlemagne was
respected by his people because of his work with public structures. This King, who showed himself so
great in extending his empire and subduing foreign nations, and was constantly occupied with plans to
that end, undertook also very many works calculated to adorn and benefit his kingdom... (Einhard).
Some of these additions included a half mile long bridge, and a basilica. Whenever Charlemagne
would see something is disrepair, he would consult priests to go get it fixed. To finish, Charlemagne,
was not only a great battle leader, but was also interested in improving his

Advantage Of Competitive Advantage
1. Introduction 1.1. Introduction to firm s competitive advantage Strategy is concerned with matching
a firm s resources and capabilities to the opportunities that arise in the external environment. (Grant, p.
114, 2016). In basic sense, a firm is a place where a product or service originates. A firm is a place
where a group of people co operate and co ordinate with each other to frame a product or services as
per the taste of the customers to reach the organizational goal of profitability. There is mixture of a lot
stakeholders like, suppliers, customers, manufacturers, distributers, etc. in a firm. A firm is a legal
entity one that signs contracts with its suppliers, distributors, employees and often customers.
(Chandler, 1992). Competitive advantage is a very general but genuine term in the present business
market. The business market is very competitive. One has to be very unique as well as customer
satisfying in order to sustain in the market for the long run. A competitive advantage is an advantage
gained over competitors by offering customers greater value, either through lower prices or by
providing additional benefits and service that justify similar, or possibly higher, prices (Ehmke, 2008).
(Porter, 2008) Competitive Advantage introduces the concept of the value chain, a general framework
for thinking strategically about the activities involved in any business and assessing their relative cost
and role in differentiation. It can be in various aspects of

Conventions Of An Inspector Calls
An Inspector Calls by JB. Priestly conforms to the genre to an extent but on the other hand the play
also subverts conventions of the genre in a number of significant ways. Each of the characters has
contributed to the victim s death, and there is a great deal of suspense and intrigue; both of these are
typical features of the genre. However, the play also subverts the genre as the setting is unusual and
the inspector is a strange and unique character.
The characters are very typical for this genre as they are all considered potential suspects to the death
of Eva Smith. Their traits and speech conform to our expectations in several ways. All characters even
if they were not a big part of Eva smiths death, had a role to play in the lead ... Show more content on

There are a number of suspects which in an inspector calls is the entire family on set. There are also
red herrings and anticipations. The red herrings are created by the way the inspector conducts his
interview. The inspector only focuses on one character at a time, starting with Mr. Birling. It appears
early in the play that Mr. Birling is a major contributor to Eva smiths death, but then the inspector
turns onto the next character Sheila. The interrogation of Sheila leads us to think that Sheila is now a
major contributor towards the death of Eva Smith. Sheila s character turns out to be very different to
that of her father who is very defensive and more worried about the bad reputation that this could
cause the family, where as Sheila throughout the play starts to discover a moral and ethical side of
herself. An example of this is in act two where Sheila says It means that we ve no excuse now for
putting on airs and that if we ve any sense we wont try. Father threw this girl out because she asked
for decent wages. I went and pushed her further out, right into the street, just because I was angry and

Categorization Of Intriguing Compounds Lab Report
The Categorization of Intriguing Substances An ionic compound is the electrostatic attraction between
protons and electrons that are transferred between two atoms. Ionic bonds occur with a metal and a
nonmetal atom. Metals lose electrons to create cations, while nonmetals gain electrons to make anions.
Covalent compounds occur only in nonmetals, which is characterized by the sharing of pairs of
electrons between atoms and other covalent bonds. Additionally, the melting and boiling point of ionic
bonds are high, whereas covalent bonds are low. Since electrons and ions are shared in covalent
compounds, it lacks moving electrons or ions. Therefore, electricity cannot be conducted; on the other
hand, ionic compounds move freely and will have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, covalent compounds may take the form of either solid, liquid, or gas; moreover,
they are loose and molecular. Once the ions are dissolved, the presence of charged particles distributed
throughout the liquid allows the solution to conduct electricity. Therefore, ionic compounds have
higher melting and boiling points compared to covalent compounds. Similarly, ionic compounds
dissolved in water make an electrically conductive solution, which are able to move freely through the
solution carrying the charge and conducts an electric current. Correspondingly, covalent compounds
do not exhibit any electrical conductivity in either pure form or when it is dissolved in water. Thus,
ionic compounds dissolve in water and have higher melting and boiling

Theme Of The American Dream In Arthur Miller s Death Of A...
To me, success means to have a goal, plan the steps to achieve the goal, implement the plan, and
finally achieve the goal (TalkenEnglish). Many people tend to try to follow this procedure when
reaching for success, regardless of the type of success. At times they lose themselves and become
confused when their process does not go as planned. Like Willy, a character in the play, Death of a
Salesman by Arthur Miller; he did not have a set plan that would ensure him success upon completion.
As Willy gets older, he fights with himself and his family practically going insane to try to grasp this
concept he has about success. In the play, Arthur Miller highlights how the American Dream can
quickly turn into a nightmare and how the approach to success for one person may not work for
someone else. Miller also implements the theme Quest for Identity as Willy wishes to be
acknowledged as a rich and successful businessman who earned his wealth from working hard. Willy
s immediate family tries to remain as optimistic as possible while facing the hardship of Willy
mentally battling himself. In the play, Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, Willy s constant
obsession with the American Dream causes him to lose his identity.
To begin, Willy is motivated by his hunger to be successful and his wish to leave fortune to his family
once he dies. Like Willy, his son, Biff also struggles with his identity. The difference between the two

Part 2: Allowing free trade between countries can be beneficial, but it also imposes costs. Use the ITT
Tech Virtual Library to research the costs and benefits of allowing free trade. Discuss aspects of free
trade that some may consider unfair. For example: a. Distribution of costs and benefits of free trade. In
other words, does everyone share in the gains and the costs equally? b. Competing with different labor
restrictions (or lack thereof), such as slave or child labor. c. Differences in environmental standards. In
the following basic demand and supply model free trade allows countries to specialize in producing
the goods in which they have the lowest opportunity cost. This lowers the price of the good in other
countries, as those countries can import it from the lower cost countries. Generally, consumers in a
country benefit from the lower prices, but producers lose revenue because they produce less and at a
lower price in equilibrium (and the government gets less tax revenue if there was a tariff in place
before free trade). Overall, the total surplus is greater, but not everyone shares in the benefits and costs
equally. Manual labor (manual labor in American English) or manual work is physical work done by
people, most especially in contrast to that done by machines, and also to that done by working

The Roles of The National Security Enterprise
The National Security Enterprise (NSE) is the overarching government apparatus responsible for
national security decision making. This is generally thought of as the National Security Council (NSC)
and the Department and Agencies they represent. However, Roger Z George and Harvey Rishikof
point out in The National Security Enterprise: Navigating the Labyrinth that national security decision
making may rest with the President and the NSC but is significantly influenced by the Modern Media
(including the traditional Press), lobbyist, think tanks, and the US Congress. A significant role for the
NSE is ensuring that these different elements of government can exchange information, share
responsibilities, and collaborate to avert or at least minimize damage to U.S. foreign and domestic
interests.(George and Rishikof 2011)
The National Security Act of 1947 created the National Security Council. The National Security
Council (NSC) is the principal White House institution that is responsible for coordinating national
security strategy, advising the president on national security issues, overseeing policy implementation
through the interagency process, and responding to national security crises. (George and Rishikof
2011) The exact make up of the National Security Council has fluctuated with the changes in
Presidential administrations. It has always consisted of the Vice President, the Secretaries of Defense,
and State, the two statutory advisors the Chairman of the Joint

The Pact Assignment
I found it difficult to relate with the book, The Pact, for near the first half of the story. The three boys,
Rameck, Sam, and George all grew up in impoverished neighborhoods in New Jersey. They were
surrounded by drugs, violence, theft, prejudice, and death. None of the 3 had a father figure within
their home while growing up and discovered that it was extremely difficult to find any positive role
models within their area. As kids, Sam and Rameck both caved under the peer pressure and became
entangled in immoral activity. Rameck had even let adrenaline take over during a fight and stabbed a

Strategic Planning And Operational Planning
In business planning there are two types of plans to consider. Strategic planning and operational
planning. The first being a long term plan establishing goals for the organization and the later a series
of short term goals that are set in an effort to accomplish the long term strategies previously laid out.
Strategic planning is a tool best used by management when creating an overall vision of the
organization. Managers build and organize strategic planning when there is a need to spell out the
organizations mission, values, and responsibilities. Responsibilities can be to the organization,
stakeholders, and customers alike.
Strategic Components Different types of organizations would have different goals in their plan, but
according to Strategic Planning for Dummies There are 11 major components to any successful
strategic plan starting with the mission statement. The purpose of a mission statement is to provide the
overall purpose and what the organization is looking to accomplish. A vision statement provides the
framework detailing the organization s plans for the near future (3 5 years). The next recommended
section is a values statement. This statement illustrates the core beliefs and guiding principles of an
organization, and a brief view at the organizations position. Specifically, strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities and threats, otherwise known by the mnemonic acronym SWOT, are all recommended to
be included in a well written strategic plan. A sufficient plan

Netflix s Position As The Top Movies Streaming Service...
Executive summary Netflix. Inc was founded in 1997 as a DVD mail delivering Service Company that
has grown to become a renowned movie and Television series streaming provider. After launching its
streaming services in 2007 Netflix diversified and expanded its streaming services to Canada as of
2010 and is now a household name in more than 190 countries. The business model that the firm has
implemented since its inception has proved superior to its competitors. Before venturing in the
Canadian market the firms management had reiterated its strategic plan as one that seeks to grow
revenue, increase its market share and earnings as it expands the content of its streaming services. To
be leaders in an industry that is volatile with ever changing business environment is not easy. Thus the
purpose of this strategic plan will be to evaluate the firm and develop strategies and further
recommendations that will not only maintain Netflix s position as the top movies streaming service
provider globally but will also assist management to implement strategies that will help the firm to
adapt to a digital media landscape that is ever changing. An external audit of the digital media space

1860 Economic Growth
The United States government encouraged economic growth greatly between the years 1860 1900.
The United States government during the Civil War era was run by the Republicans. The Republicans
held the majority in Congress in 1860 because the southern states had seceded from the Union. This
majority gave the republicans the power to implement the policies in their platform which was based
on the American System. The Republican platform of 1860 was centered on encouraging economic
growth and developing a national economy. A few specific policies that the Republicans passed were
the Pacific Railway Act, the Morill Tariff, and the Morill Land Grant Act. Each of these three policies
were aimed at encouraging economic growth in our nation. The republicans passed many laws with
the sole purpose of encouraging economic growth and developing a strong economy. The US
government could be considered somewhat laissez faire in their neglect to place much needed
regulations on big business and corporations. Despite this fact, the United States government was
definitely not laissez faire during this time period due to the fact that they took a very active role in
our nation s economy. Without the policies passed by the national government during this time period,

conflicted.
The article follows the structure of the chinese mothers parenting style. This parenting style can be

After she explains her points, she gets into a story about her and her seven year old daughter. She sets
the scene by telling us that her daughter is learning a new song on the piano. To make a long story
short, Chau threatened her daughter by saying she would receive no food or christmas presents if she
did not learn the song. She would not let her seven year old daughter get and use the bathroom until
she recited the song perfectly. All of a sudden, her daughter learned the song after all the long hours of
non stop arguing and yelling and practice.
The first thing that really caught my eye was a statement by Chau saying that, Chinese parents

disagree because there are plenty of things that are fun, even if you are not good at them. Someone

agree with. Towards the end of the article Chau makes a very valid point about self esteem: There s

Risk Management Is A Essential Component Of Any Business
Risk Management is a vital component of any business, especially health care. Risk management can
be generally defined as recognizing, preventing, and monitoring situations that could result in injury
or liability, monetary loss, or noncompliance of regulations (Chubb Health Care, 2004, 9). In a basic
risk management system, risks are identified in separate risk area. Each risk area is handled by a
different department. It addresses the risks to an organization at the department level. In the basic risk

Significant risk events must be identified. The risks are analyzed based on impact and evaluated as an
inherent basis or a residual basis. Risk response is determined by the method that best fits the
organization s objectives and risk tolerances. This can be by avoidance, acceptance, reduction, or
sharing. The organization implements policies to respond to the risk and carry out the policy.
Communication of the risk and its response is timely and appropriately disseminated through the
organization. The ERM system allows for monitoring, updating, and maintaining through ongoing
evaluations of processes and policies (Brannan and Taylor, n.d).

Death in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening Essay
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening A Stop for Death
Everyone feels burdened by life at some point. Everyone wishes they could just close their eyes and
make all the problems and struggles of life disappear. Some see death as a release from the chains and
ropes with which the trials and tribulations of life bind the human race. Death is a powerful theme in
literature, symbolized in a plethora of ways. In Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Eve Robert Frost uses
subtle imagery, symbolism, rhythm and rhyme to invoke the yearning for death that the weary traveler
of life feels.
When the speaker in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Eve pauses for a moment s rest, he does not do
so on a simple evening, but on the darkest evening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Winter is a time of cold, when forests die and animals hide from the shrieking winds and biting cold.
Winter is a time for survival against the odds. How apt that the speaker is struggling against the lovely,
dark and deep woods to remember that he has miles to go before [he] sleep[s]. The easy wind calls to
him, and the downy flake beckons him to a comfortable sleep. If the speaker had paused on a bright
summer day, the sleep might be just a short rest, but the poem is set on the darkest evening of the year
while the woods fill up with snow, and any rest taken in the lovely, dark and deep woods would result
in the eternal sleep of death (474).
Sleep is another common symbol for death, and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening is filled with
the essence of sleep. Every element of the poem works together to create a lullaby effect, calling the
speaker and reader to a lovely, dark and deep sleep (474). The gentle imagery of the downy soft snow
and easy wind, combined with the cadence and meter of the poem creates a lulling, rocking, soothing
effect. The AABB rhyme scheme and the iambic quatrameter create a lullaby feeling, easing the
reader in to a comfortable sleep.
The last two lines act as a slap in the face. Every element works toward death, and the speaker almost
slips into eternal rest. One can see him, putting the

Brief review of the paper you choose (at least 200 words in length).
_ This article was quite statistically focused, which contributed to it being somewhat difficult to read. I
admit, I didn t fully understand all of the tables, relating the variables of each group study. However,
the results were well stated, making the experiment more accessible to people that are less statistically

Book Review of The Return of Martin Guerre Essay
In The Return of Martin Guerre, one man s impersonation of an heir from an influential peasant family
in the French village of Artigat ultimately leads to his public execution. The tale of Arnaud du Tilh
alias Pansette (meaning the belly ) is full of ironies, not the least of which is his death at the hands of a
man who by some accounts harbored some admiration for the quick witted peasant. Set in a time and
place where a hardly discernible line separated proper behavior from that which was grounds for
death, du Tilh was guilty of more than one serious charge. Yet he was well known as a strong farmer,
loving husband, shrewd rural merchant, and eloquent speaker. Arnaud s actions are not the result of his
own audacity, rather of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Du Tilh knew he had the intelligence to pull it off, and his old life was not holding him back.
There are a few plausible reasons as to why Arnaud wanted a new identity, but why did he go as far as
he did in his impersonation? For one, Guerre s inheritance was larger, but did he happen to know that
when his role began? What started for du Tilh as a simple act of cleverness evolved into an elaborate
charade, a chance to start an entirely new life. Du Tilh didn t only want money, he wanted a fresh start,
a chance to put his skills to good use and force a path for himself. Pansette was moving beyond the
mask of the carnival player and the stratagems of the mere inheritance seeker to forge a new identity
and a new life for himself in the village on the Leze. The thought of a family, as well as a decent
inheritance must have sounded good to the peasant from Sajas. However, the thought of duping an
entire village must have been even more tempting to the prankster Pansette. During his trial at
Toulouse, his suspicion of conjuring spirits to aid his deception came to the fore. The accused seemed
to have an air of magic about him. Trying to take him off guard, President de Mansencal asked him
how he had invoked the evil spirit that taught him so much about the people of Artigat. Coras said he
paled and for once hesitated... This reaction, I think, may have resulted not only from the defendant s
sense of danger, but also from anger

Becoming A Licensed Practical Nurse
Becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse Becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse is something I decided to
wanted to do while working as a Certified Nursing Assistant. It is a very fulfilling experience. Caring
for others is something that takes patience, hard work, sympathy, and education. Licensed Practical
Nurses provide a number of services and have many duties. Most duties are supervised under a
Register Nurse or a doctor. Some duties include measuring vital signs, maintaining patient records,
dressing wounds, helping with personal hygiene just to name a few things. The duties of a LPN vary
from state to state. There are many career options available for LPNs. Many LPNs start their careers in
nursing homes for the elderly. This is because environments such as hospitals like to see long term
care experience on a LPN s resume. Some LPNs do in home care services. This is when the LPN goes
to the patient s home and takes care of what they need in the privacy of their own home. You ll find
LPNs working in a hospital setting often as well doing many tasks and working in different
departments. Doctor s offices have LPNs working for them as well. There are many different routes a
LPN can go in their field. The daily routine for a LPN usually goes as follows. First, they make sure
they get to work with enough time before their shift begins to go over the charts made by the previous
LPN to catch up on what s been going on with the patients. After checking the charts they will start

Differences Of Arial And Helvetica
As we have seen from this case, typefaces, more than any other design elements, provide a link to the
history of printing and how technology influences the concept of normal . The development of normal
rests on how human interfaced with the technology: partly on the new added or disappeared
constraints; partly due to the different interactions in a totally new context. Design is refining the
normal bit by bit so that the typefaces as well as other products are still fits in with people s life with
the core of absence and familiarity and finally exceeds normal design to Super Normal design by the
judgement of time.
Super Normal, from a conceptual point of view, leans on an intentional and extraordinary ambivalence

They both are sans serif typefaces that are universally embraced by different communication
platforms. At first glance, they seem very similar. When Arial was released in 1982, it was seen as a
copy of Helvetica of 1957. But if a user examines the characters in each typeface closely, the
differences between them become apparent. Mark Simonson, an American graphic designer, produced
an analysis of the two, which shows how much more refined Helvetica s detailing is than Arial s. The
tail of the a is gently curved in Helvetica, as is the first connection of the bowl to the stem, but not in
Arial. Similarly, the top of the t and the ends of the strokes in the C and S are perfectly horizontal in
the former, but slightly angled in the latter. He also noted that the stem of Helvetica is more complex
in the structure than those in Arial. The distinguishing details are so tiny that can be noticed when they
are scrutinized magnified versions of each character as Simonson did. Yet it is these subtleties that
constitute Helvetica a finer example of design than Arial for professionals. Functionally the two fonts
are roughly equal, as both are admirable clear and considered to be Super Normal, but aesthetically

The Core Principles of Nursing
Introduction: There are many different aspects to being a good nurse , but there are six core principles
of nursing which have emerged through progression of the nursing profession, (DoH 2012). The core
principles were brought in as a result of issues raised within the National Health Service (NHS) and
have been identified as caring and compassion; dignity; communication; professionalism; emotional
intelligence and the nurse patient relationship. The three principles I have chosen to analyse are
communication, dignity and nurse patient relationship because it is my belief that when a nurse lacks
awareness of these, they will also lack the ability to be a successful nurse. From my own research and
experience, these three principles are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maintaining dignity is not only meaningful in the first stages of caring for an individual, but essential
throughout a patient s care; by giving the element of control, it will help promote patient
independence. Promoting dignity can be achieved more easily if the patient and nurse establish a good
working nurse patient relationship, further enhanced by treating each individual equally, regardless of
protected characteristics, (e.g. age, culture, race, religion, etc.), to ensure everyone is given the same
level of care and importance. Zion (2011) said that consistency within the unit, by the way the care
staff approached patients right through to the way they communicated amongst colleagues, gave him
what he needed to go back into society and get back hold of his dignity. Zion s perception supports the
idea that nurses and care staff have a significant role in patient s experiences. Although it s his
personal opinion, he is speaking as the patient and talking about of an experience which has directly
affected him. He clearly states that due to the staff consistency and communication, they gave him
back his dignity that he perhaps lost on arrival to the hospital. He tells us about how he was restrained
onto a bed whilst being taken from the emergency room to the unit, after suffering from mental
illnesses, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Url Is An Acronym For Uniform Resource Locator And Is A...
URL is an acronym for Uniform Resource Locator and is a reference (an address) to a resource on the
Internet. A URL is the fundamental network identification for any resource connected to the web. It s
often easiest, although not entirely accurate, to think of a URL as the name of a file on the World Wide
Web because most URLs refer to a file on some machine on the network. However, remember that
URLs also can point to other resources on the network, such as database queries and command output.
Most people realize that a space is not allowed in a URL. However, it is also important to realize as
the URL string can only contain alphanumeric characters and !$ _+* () . Any other characters that are
required in the URL must be encoded. For analysts, there are two key reasons that a solid grasp of
URLs matter Web analytics tools, Google Analytics, Adobe/Omniture Site catalyst, Core metrics, Web

explanation as to the mechanics of that process. Pages on the site some web analytics platforms use
the URL as the core means for reporting Pages data some don t either way, understanding the different
components of a URL and how that affects the data feeding into your analytics tool. Although each

Superstitions In The Minister s Black Veil
In The Minister s Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the author seeks to convey that although all
individuals are sinners, members of society will condemn those who seek to confront their own faults.
This conclusion was drawn from the many motifs which relate to Puritan society, particularly the
superstitions and Christian ideologies of many New Englanders during the 18th century. In this tale,
Mr. Hooper s donning of the black veil is viewed as a change which alters his countenance
indefinitely; from the moment it is introduced, those who view it are awestruck. The mere sight of Mr.
Hooper even acts as a signal for the bell to cease its summons . As murmurs spread throughout the
congregation, Mr. Hooper preaches of secret sin, and those

Metropolitan Museum Of The Modern Museum
This week readings discusses both the history of museums, primarily in the United States, and their
evolution from high brow institutions to ones that serve, educate, and engage the populace. The
articles also trace the constant discussions museum professionals had regarding the focus and
dissemination of their collections. These articles all agree that museums must transform from places
that solely focus on the collection, preservation, conservation, and dissemination of rare items to ones
that also become a part of the community, represent the many voices and interests of the public,
educate, and become a forum for discussion about issues beyond the items in a glass case of hung on

In addition to the traditional artifacts one expects to find, the museums presented different voices and
perspectives, in addition to many opportunities for the visitor to get closer and interact. Additionally,
they provided current perspective to their exhibitions. My recent visits to the Stax Records Museum,
the Birthplace of Country Music Museum, and the Hermitage, proved enlightening as to the prime
function and obligation of modern museums, as well as their future roles in society. While the primary
draw to the Stax Records Museum is the connection the visitor has to the music from the label and
studio, Stax begins the tour in a reconstructed church and exhibitions that trace the culture and
heritage essential to understanding the people and the art preserved and displayed. The recently
opened Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol, Virginia provides the visitor several
opportunities to lean in, interact, and personalize their experiences with the various exhibitions
throughout the floorspace. For example, they provide a multimedia discography of the records made
during the Big Bang of Country Music. The information with the touchscreen display can be sorted
and searched by the patron from the academic date of recording and personnel to the entertaining song
theme. The Hermitage recently opened a new exhibit detailing the life of Andrew

J. M Barries Peter Pan Chapter Summaries
J.M Barries Peter Pan is a childrens book. This book is about a group of young boys who live on the
island of Neverland. The boys never want to grow up. When they find Wendy and take her to
Neverland Peter and the lost boys ask her to be their mother. After Wendy stays awhile and acts like a
mother, the lost boys realize they have some growing up to do. Even though it s not what they want to
do. This is why i think motherhood is very important especially in this story. The main setting in this
story is in Ms. Darling nursery. In the nursery at the beginning and end of the story is where I believe
the importance of motherhood is shown. This is because Wendy and her little brothers are cared for
here. They are treated and raised with respect. This is where Wendy learns how to nurture and care, ...

Wendys mother in the book is a very fine lady. Ms. Darling takes great care of her children. She even
gave them her wedding dress and made her children bed sheets out of them. She thinks her children
are sweet and always loves spending time with them. Wendy has a special relationship with Peter Pan.
Tinkerbell is very jealous of it. She throws fits and pulls Wendys hair. She yells in a language that only
Peter can understand saying rude things about wendy. Tink feels it is a romantic relationship when the
rest of us see it a mother and son type relationship. When Wendy arrives in neverland her motherhood
trait gos with her. She builds the boys a house. She makes them pretend dinner. Wendy would tell
Peter stories and all the boys. She would just take complete care and would be okay with them

Jimmy Carter Literature Review
Jimmy Carter was a very avid Christian before, during and after his time in office. He is commonly
acknowledged of being one of the most religious presidents in history. The purpose of this literature
review is to give an overview of how academia interprets Carter s religiosity. Berggren and Rae
(2006) describe Carter as an Evangelical style president with a strong devotion to his corresponding
Evangelical Faith. He is referred to being the born again president. Carter had a born again experience
during his pre presidential life which supports he was evangelist during this part of his life. In this
experience, he questioned his faith after a failed attempt to become governor. It wasn t until his sister,
a devout evangelist, spoke to and convinced him that he had not fully dedicated himself to God, that
he had a born again realization and devoted himself to Christ. Carter s Evangelical Faith is further
supported by him referencing himself as born again and saying, I believe God wants me to be the best
politician I can be (Lindsay, 2007). Lindsay s article also reasons that at the beginning of his
presidency Carter had a high rate of evangelical approval because these people could easily connect
with like minded president. Carter s evangelism religiosity is demonstrated by these two sources
before and during his early administration but gives no insight into how might have changed during
and after his presidency. Preston (2012, 575) expands on Carter s evangelical

Good Journalism and Citizenship
The world is a hectic mess today. News is happening all around us, and the only source that acts as a
filter between the chaos and ourselves is the media. The media, journalists especially, must hold upon
themselves a great responsibility when they are acting as this filtering apparatus between the ordered
and unordered. But is that the only thing journalism does: make sense of the news? No, it does much
more than that. Good journalism is working, with help from the citizenry, to create an enlightened
Republic filled with citizens who will be well informed of the events which intersect their lives. There
are a number of measures, though, that journalists must take before they can go from simply making
sense of the news to creating an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And this is not only a discussion between citizens and citizens or leaders and leaders but rather
between citizens and leaders; the press simply acts as a medium. Justice Douglas wrote in New York
Times Co. v. United States that [o]pen debate and discussion of public issues are vital to our national
health. On public questions there should be uninhibited, robust, and wide open debate. Although
debate and discussion are vital to the Republic, maybe society should rethink about how uninhibited,
robust, and wide open those debates really are. Society today tends to think of debates as two
opposing ideas battling each other out in order to ascertain which idea comes out in first, and, as
Kovach and Rosenstiel point out, a debate focused only on the extremes of argument does not serve
the public but instead leaves most citizens out (167). The problem with this is that there are not only
one or two given positions on any given issue, but there are many positions. In the debates that go on
today, those positions which are often left out are often those which are also most agreeable with each
other. So instead of letting debates focus only on the extremes, [t]he public forum must include the
broad areas of agreement, where most of the public resides and where the solutions to society s
problems are found (Kovach and Rosenstiel 167). And since it is the news media which

[She is] orderly and calm, and Atwood makes it clear that this is her biggest fear (287). Transitioning from a fighter of progress working against the system to one adjusted and relented to rampant injustice, Offred embodies the theme of Atwood s messaging. In Iliad, women abandon their identity, freedom, sanity, and hope to conform, but eventually, they end up giving up much more than they bargain for: themselves. Offred is only a whim (159) in the eyes of this society and she too comes to believe it herself. To her commander who controls her entire life, she is merely a toy or tool. To her superiors, she is just a method for repopulation. To her friends, she is only a source of companionship. To Atwood, she is a sign that silence and acceptance should be feared. Because [she has] been emptied (282) by society and those around her, Atwood clarifies these hazards of ignorance, which are additionally expanded upon through Offred s transformation. It may seem inconsequential at first, but one may become so deeply entangled in this new world, such as Iliad, that the line between truth and fiction, good and evil is blurred. An enemy is difficult to fight when one cannot see nor comprehend it, and Atwood s characterizes Offred as a girl condemned to her reality because she is unable to see her foe. More than that, she is alone or feels like she is. When detailing her story, Offred [feels] as if [she is] talking to a wall and she has no one to confide in with. She [feels] so alone (195). Everything that the Romans had ever aspired to build was put into disfunction. As the people were free from a governing rule, the long period of peace was over. The previous Roman citizens were left with a new world that they had not experienced before one without a job to works in, a job to feed their families. They no longer had anyone to pay taxes to. He provided free education for all of the people in his kingdom, by creating new schools to educate his people to have a better life. As a result, Charlemagne became even more likable, with the people enjoying a chance to have a better education as well as a better view point of a life less barbaric. Next, Charlemagne tried to be more than a ruler and more a part of the community. One of the reasons why Charlemagne is so famous is because he tried to educate himself. He was described by Einhard as a great teacher, as he was capable in multiple languages, along with being taught by some great teachers. Rather that being a great ruler by educating his people, he became an even greater ruler by educating himself. By doing this, his people had even more faith in the fact that he was going to rule properly, that every decision that he made was well thought out. Born into a period where education was scarce if existent, this was an astonishing act. Lastly, Charlemagne was respected by his people because of his work with public structures. This King, who showed himself so great in extending his empire and subduing foreign nations, and was constantly occupied with plans to that end, undertook also very many works calculated to adorn and benefit his kingdom... However, the play also subverts the genre as the setting is unusual and the inspector is a strange and unique character. It appears early in the play that Mr. Birling is a major contributor to Eva smiths death, but then the inspector turns onto the next character Sheila. The interrogation of Sheila leads us to think that Sheila is now a major contributor towards the death of Eva Smith. Sheila s character turns out to be very different to that of her father who is very defensive and more worried about the bad reputation that this could cause the family, where as Sheila throughout the play starts to discover a moral and ethical side of herself. An example of this is in act two where Sheila says It means that we ve no excuse now for putting on airs and that if we ve any sense we wont try. Covalent compounds occur only in nonmetals, which is characterized by the sharing of pairs of electrons between atoms and other covalent bonds. • 12. Theme Of The American Dream In Arthur Miller s Death Of A... To me, success means to have a goal, plan the steps to achieve the goal, implement the plan, and finally achieve the goal (TalkenEnglish). Many people tend to try to follow this procedure when reaching for success, regardless of the type of success. At times they lose themselves and become confused when their process does not go as planned. Like Willy, a character in the play, Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller; he did not have a set plan that would ensure him success upon completion. As Willy gets older, he fights with himself and his family practically going insane to try to grasp this concept he has about success. In the play, Arthur Miller highlights how the American Dream can quickly turn into a nightmare and how the approach to success for one person may not work for someone else. Miller also implements the theme Quest for Identity as Willy wishes to be acknowledged as a rich and successful businessman who earned his wealth from working hard. Willy s immediate family tries to remain as optimistic as possible while facing the hardship of Willy mentally battling himself. In the play, Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, Willy s constant obsession with the American Dream causes him to lose his identity. The United States government during the Civil War era was run by the Republicans. The Republicans held the majority in Congress in 1860 because the southern states had seceded from the Union. This majority gave the republicans the power to implement the policies in their platform which was based on the American System. The Republican platform of 1860 was centered on encouraging economic growth and developing a national economy. A few specific policies that the Republicans passed were the Pacific Railway Act, the Morill Tariff, and the Morill Land Grant Act. Each of these three policies were aimed at encouraging economic growth in our nation. The republicans passed many laws with the sole purpose of encouraging economic growth and developing a strong economy. The US government could be considered somewhat laissez faire in their neglect to place much needed regulations on big business and corporations. Despite this fact, the United States government was definitely not laissez faire during this time period due to the fact that they took a very active role in our nation s economy. She would not let her seven year old daughter get and use the bathroom until she recited the song perfectly. All of a sudden, her daughter learned the song after all the long hours of non stop arguing and yelling and practice. The first thing that really caught my eye was a statement by Chau saying that, Chinese parents understand that nothing is fun until you re good at it. (Chau 262). Many people would completely disagree because there are plenty of things that are fun, even if you are not good at them. Someone could love to draw or play a sport and be bad at it at the same time and that is completely okay. In a basic risk management system, risks are identified in separate risk area. Each risk area is handled by a different department. It addresses the risks to an organization at the department level. Everyone wishes they could just close their eyes and make all the problems and struggles of life disappear. Some see death as a release from the chains and ropes with which the trials and tribulations of life bind the human race. Death is a powerful theme in literature, symbolized in a plethora of ways. In Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Eve Robert Frost uses subtle imagery, symbolism, rhythm and rhyme to invoke the yearning for death that the weary traveler of life feels. How apt that the speaker is struggling against the lovely, dark and deep woods to remember that he has miles to go before [he] sleep[s]. The easy wind calls to him, and the downy flake beckons him to a comfortable sleep. If the speaker had paused on a bright summer day, the sleep might be just a short rest, but the poem is set on the darkest evening of the year while the woods fill up with snow, and any rest taken in the lovely, dark and deep woods would result in the eternal sleep of death (474). Sleep is another common symbol for death, and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening is filled with the essence of sleep. Every element of the poem works together to create a lullaby effect, calling the speaker and reader to a lovely, dark and deep sleep (474). The gentle imagery of the downy soft snow and easy wind, combined with the cadence and meter of the poem creates a lulling, rocking, soothing effect. The AABB rhyme scheme and the iambic quatrameter create a lullaby feeling, easing the reader in to a comfortable sleep. The last two lines act as a slap in the face. Every element works toward death, and the speaker almost slips into eternal rest. One can see him, putting the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Book Review of The Return of Martin Guerre Essay In The Return of Martin Guerre, one man s impersonation of an heir from an influential peasant family in the French village of Artigat ultimately leads to his public execution. The tale of Arnaud du Tilh alias Pansette (meaning the belly ) is full of ironies, not the least of which is his death at the hands of a man who by some accounts harbored some admiration for the quick witted peasant. Set in a time and place where a hardly discernible line separated proper behavior from that which was grounds for death, du Tilh was guilty of more than one serious charge. Yet he was well known as a strong farmer, loving husband, shrewd rural merchant, and eloquent speaker. Arnaud s actions are not the result of his own audacity, rather of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Du Tilh knew he had the intelligence to pull it off, and his old life was not holding him back. There are a few plausible reasons as to why Arnaud wanted a new identity, but why did he go as far as he did in his impersonation? For one, Guerre s inheritance was larger, but did he happen to know that when his role began? What started for du Tilh as a simple act of cleverness evolved into an elaborate charade, a chance to start an entirely new life. Du Tilh didn t only want money, he wanted a fresh start, a chance to put his skills to good use and force a path for himself. Pansette was moving beyond the mask of the carnival player and the stratagems of the mere inheritance seeker to forge a new identity and a new life for himself in the village on the Leze. The thought of a family, as well as a decent inheritance must have sounded good to the peasant from Sajas. However, the thought of duping an entire village must have been even more tempting to the prankster Pansette. During his trial at Toulouse, his suspicion of conjuring spirits to aid his deception came to the fore. The accused seemed to have an air of magic about him. Trying to take him off guard, President de Mansencal asked him how he had invoked the evil spirit that taught him so much about the people of Artigat. Coras said he paled and for once hesitated... Becoming A Licensed Practical Nurse Becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse Becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse is something I decided to wanted to do while working as a Certified Nursing Assistant. It is a very fulfilling experience. Caring for others is something that takes patience, hard work, sympathy, and education. Licensed Practical Nurses provide a number of services and have many duties. Most duties are supervised under a Register Nurse or a doctor. Some duties include measuring vital signs, maintaining patient records, dressing wounds, helping with personal hygiene just to name a few things. The duties of a LPN vary from state to state. There are many career options available for LPNs. Many LPNs start their careers in nursing homes for the elderly. This is because environments such as hospitals like to see long term care experience on a LPN s resume. Some LPNs do in home care services. This is when the LPN goes to the patient s home and takes care of what they need in the privacy of their own home. You ll find LPNs working in a hospital setting often as well doing many tasks and working in different departments. Doctor s offices have LPNs working for them as well. There are many different routes a LPN can go in their field. The daily routine for a LPN usually goes as follows. First, they make sure they get to work with enough time before their shift begins to go over the charts made by the previous LPN to catch up on what s been going on with the patients. • 26. Differences Of Arial And Helvetica As we have seen from this case, typefaces, more than any other design elements, provide a link to the history of printing and how technology influences the concept of normal . The development of normal rests on how human interfaced with the technology: partly on the new added or disappeared constraints; partly due to the different interactions in a totally new context. Design is refining the normal bit by bit so that the typefaces as well as other products are still fits in with people s life with the core of absence and familiarity and finally exceeds normal design to Super Normal design by the judgement of time. They both are sans serif typefaces that are universally embraced by different communication platforms. At first glance, they seem very similar. When Arial was released in 1982, it was seen as a copy of Helvetica of 1957. But if a user examines the characters in each typeface closely, the differences between them become apparent. Mark Simonson, an American graphic designer, produced an analysis of the two, which shows how much more refined Helvetica s detailing is than Arial s. The tail of the a is gently curved in Helvetica, as is the first connection of the bowl to the stem, but not in Arial. Similarly, the top of the t and the ends of the strokes in the C and S are perfectly horizontal in the former, but slightly angled in the latter. He also noted that the stem of Helvetica is more complex in the structure than those in Arial. The distinguishing details are so tiny that can be noticed when they are scrutinized magnified versions of each character as Simonson did. Yet it is these subtleties that constitute Helvetica a finer example of design than Arial for professionals. Functionally the two fonts are roughly equal, as both are admirable clear and considered to be Super Normal, but aesthetically Helvetica is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Core Principles of Nursing Introduction: There are many different aspects to being a good nurse , but there are six core principles of nursing which have emerged through progression of the nursing profession, (DoH 2012). The core principles were brought in as a result of issues raised within the National Health Service (NHS) and have been identified as caring and compassion; dignity; communication; professionalism; emotional intelligence and the nurse patient relationship. The three principles I have chosen to analyse are communication, dignity and nurse patient relationship because it is my belief that when a nurse lacks awareness of these, they will also lack the ability to be a successful nurse. From my own research and experience, these three principles are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maintaining dignity is not only meaningful in the first stages of caring for an individual, but essential throughout a patient s care; by giving the element of control, it will help promote patient independence. Promoting dignity can be achieved more easily if the patient and nurse establish a good working nurse patient relationship, further enhanced by treating each individual equally, regardless of protected characteristics, (e.g. age, culture, race, religion, etc.), to ensure everyone is given the same level of care and importance. Zion (2011) said that consistency within the unit, by the way the care staff approached patients right through to the way they communicated amongst colleagues, gave him what he needed to go back into society and get back hold of his dignity. Zion s perception supports the idea that nurses and care staff have a significant role in patient s experiences. Although it s his personal opinion, he is speaking as the patient and talking about of an experience which has directly affected him. He clearly states that due to the staff consistency and communication, they gave him back his dignity that he perhaps lost on arrival to the hospital. A URL is the fundamental network identification for any resource connected to the web. He is commonly acknowledged of being one of the most religious presidents in history. The purpose of this literature review is to give an overview of how academia interprets Carter s religiosity. Berggren and Rae (2006) describe Carter as an Evangelical style president with a strong devotion to his corresponding Evangelical Faith. He is referred to being the born again president. Carter had a born again experience during his pre presidential life which supports he was evangelist during this part of his life. In this experience, he questioned his faith after a failed attempt to become governor. It wasn t until his sister, a devout evangelist, spoke to and convinced him that he had not fully dedicated himself to God, that he had a born again realization and devoted himself to Christ. Carter s Evangelical Faith is further supported by him referencing himself as born again and saying, I believe God wants me to be the best politician I can be (Lindsay, 2007). Lindsay s article also reasons that at the beginning of his presidency Carter had a high rate of evangelical approval because these people could easily connect with like minded president. Justice Douglas wrote in New York Times Co. v. United States that [o]pen debate and discussion of public issues are vital to our national health. On public questions there should be uninhibited, robust, and wide open debate. Although debate and discussion are vital to the Republic, maybe society should rethink about how uninhibited, robust, and wide open those debates really are. Society today tends to think of debates as two opposing ideas battling each other out in order to ascertain which idea comes out in first, and, as Kovach and Rosenstiel point out, a debate focused only on the extremes of argument does not serve the public but instead leaves most citizens out (167). The problem with this is that there are not only one or two given positions on any given issue, but there are many positions. In the debates that go on today, those positions which are often left out are often those which are also most agreeable with each other. So instead of letting debates focus only on the extremes, [t]he public forum must include the broad areas of agreement, where most of the public resides and where the solutions to society s problems are found (Kovach and Rosenstiel 167).
