Survival In Auschwitz Research Paper
Arguably the Holocaust affected many innocent people who had no explainable reasons for why a
devastating succession had pointed them out. Germans had no consideration of how much suffering
was occurring they were basically beasts with no lack of remorse. Survival In Auschwitz, a memoir by
Primo Levi, who has also personally lived the tremendous revolution of the attack towards Jewish
people, he writes about the disasters occurring during this occasion, the way dehumanization had
taken people s identity, and a plan to cope with the situation. A disastrous journey took place around
1943. A vast of Jewish people were captured by the Germans and with absolutely no knowledge they
were being taken to a place of no hope. Behind

Marginalation Of Women In Tennessee WilliamsA Streetcar...
Women are marginalised in A Streetcar Named Desire through their economic status, their mental
health and their place as a woman in the society of 1940s. They are held as possessions for admiration
and housework. Neither of the men in the play treat them as they should be treated, and see them as
nothing more than a housemaker and a child bearer. Also, it is made prominently clear by Williams
that no woman would be able to survive without a man at that time. However, at some occasions,
Williams portrays that women can prove to be challenging if undermined.
Blanche Dubois is an epitome of this portrayal of women in the 1940s. She s portrayed as a character
who is running away from her past, whilst still dragging it with her, everything ... Show more content

They were meant to be flirtatious whist also being chaste. Blanche Dubois tries to maintain this image.
However, without any people witnessing her, she s antithesis to this role. Her solution to her problems
is via escaping to alcohol consumption, promiscuity and madness. This escape portrays that women in
the new emerging world can no longer keep up with the role of a Southern Belle. It is the character of
Stanley that forces her to fall out of this character and show other people who she really is. Here,
Blanche is shown suppressed by him, which leads to her becoming powerless. She cannot overcome
the power and dominance of Stanley. They have an ongoing feud with each other during the play. And
as we know, it is Stanley who prevails through his rape of Blanche. This victory isn t just of Stanley
over Blanche, it is a victory of masculinity over femininity, oppression over suppression, New
America over Old South. By Stanley winning the feud, Williams displays that it s the man who holds
all the cards. The rape implies the ultimate powerlessness of Blanche and women in the play. By
Stanley raping Blanche, it is not just defeat for Blanche, however, it is a defeat for all women in the
play. Through this gesture, Williams has shown that in the 1940s, a woman cannot take home the prize
in a man dominated world.
In addition to this, Williams decides to include the role of a Southern Belle. However, why does he do
this? According to the

American Connector Company Case Study
AMERICAN CONNECTOR COMPANY CASE STUDY
Q1 How serious is the threat of DJC to American Connector Company?
Answer The threat of DJC to American Connector Company is very high. Following are the reasons:
Ø If DJC sets up manufacturing base in USA, as per the exhibit 7 and exhibit 8 the raw material cost
for DJC in USA will drastically reduce. Current Raw material product and packaging cost is 14.89
which will reduce to 8.93 in USA.As the raw material cost is almost half of the total finished goods
cost, the raw material cost reduction would be substantial. Cost head | KAWASAKI ($/1000 Units) |

DJC/USA
Q3: What accounts for these differences? How much of the difference is inherent in the way each of
the two companies competes? How much is due strictly to differences in the efficiency of the
operations?
Answer
a) There are many reasons for these differences:
Ø Fixed Asset utilisation: Due to continuous factory runtime, the overall utilisation of fixed asset
increases for DJC Kawasaki in comparison ACC Sunnyvale s plant.
Ø Raw material cost: In Japan raw material cost is twice as much high as in America.
Ø Production Process: Due to batch production system in ACC, there were changes required in
production line every time product was changed which lead to less efficiency and lower expertise in
churning out a product. This issue was not there with DJC continuous production process with lesser
number of product variations.
Ø Quality issues: The number of defective finished goods is very less for DJC when compared to
ACC.
b) The basic differences are:
Ø Technological Advantage: In house R amp;D team which was bringing difference in terms of

The Importance Of Tourism In India
India is a place located in the southern part of the Asia. It is the 7th largest country geographically. It is
the only country in the world which has an ocean named on it (Indian Ocean). It is also known as a

Jorgen Leth Constraints
Constraints, or obstructions, offer a new form of a piece of art work. They are a way of creative
innovation. In the film The Five Obstructions, constraints were used to combat Jorgen Leth s writer s
block. Depending on the constraint, it can focus an artist s work. Like Anti art, constraints can offer a
different perspective through potential forms of art, which is the basis of Oulipo. Restriction of what
an artist can work with actually opens doors of creativity and new art forms.
In The Five Obstructions, Director Lars von Trier advises Jorgen Leth on his work. Von Trier creates
the first two obstructions for Leth. Leth proficiently completes the first constraint. However, von Trier
criticizes Leth for using a translucent screen in the second constraint. I found Leth s use of the screen
to be creative, but von Trier stuck to his guns and did not want any people to be shown from Mumbai,
India. I found that the rigor that von Trier had to stick to his constraints was so that there was a
consistency within the film. However, I appreciated Leth s creativity with the screen. This type of
creativity are evidence of the value of constraints. Counterintuitive approaches can creative productive
results!
The third obstruction was punishment for Leth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would take 200,000,000 years to read all of Queneau s poems (Wikipedia). One Hundred Million
Billion sonnets almost take constraints to a new level. The one less persuasive aspect of constraints is
the lack of human conception. These large creations of work often have been tampered with by
machines or other texts. One may consider this as a hindering of the persona of the author. To generate
so many poems like Queneau, one would have to utilize some sort of tool that takes away from the
human aspect of creating art. Queneau embraces the potential that constraints offer, which is crucial to

Essay on The Sonnet Genre Combining with Figurative Language
The Sonnet Genre Combining with Figurative Language
Compare how the conventions of the sonnet genre combine with figurative language to create
meaning in at least two texts.
Originating in Italy, the sonnet was established by Petrarch in the 14th century as a major form of love
poetry, and came to be adopted in
England in the 16th century (Oxford Literary terms). Overtime there have been different types of
sonnets written, for example the Italian
(Petrarchan) sonnet, the English (Shakespearean) sonnet and the
Spenserian sonnet. Each of these sonnets have there own conventions and use different types of poetic
language to help create meaning for the reader. For the purpose of this essay we will look at how the
conventions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A typical rhyme scheme of a Shakespearean sonnet would be that of
ABABCDCDEFEFGG. Spenserian sonnets combine both the Shakespearean and
Italian forms. Just like the Shakespearean form it uses 3 quatrains followed by a couplet. However the
rhyme scheme is like the Italian, linking all stanzas together ABABBCBCCDCDEE. An essential
element of all three types of sonnets is that of the volta which is used to signify a change in subject
matter, for example in the Italian form the volta normally occurs at the ninth line. The two sonnets I
will be examining within this essay predominantly use the conventions of a
Shakespearean sonnet.
When exploring the conventions of Sonnet 18 we can see it has the typical conventions of a
Shakespearean sonnet using three quatrains and a rhyming couplet. The first quatrain establishes the
theme of comparing the speaker s beloved with a summer s day, and why it is difficult to do so. The
whole of sonnet 18 is used as an extended metaphor, and this is seen from the very beginning:
Shall I compare thee to a summers day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate (1 2)
The sonnet begins with a metaphoric question, asking if the speaker should compare this person with
summer. The speaker then answers by saying she is more lovely and more temperate this combines
with the meaning created by the first quatrain immediately giving the reader an idea that the speaker
feels his beloved

Britt Harriss In Delmer Dave s Kings Go Forth
Monique is the obvious mulatta character in Delmer Dave s film Kings Go Forth, a French woman
born of Mrs. Blair and an unidentified black man. Nevertheless, the viewers discover another mulatto
character in passing: Britt Harris. Harris blackness is hinted at throughout the film as he
simultaneously fulfills the role of the King provided to him in the title. Britt Harris passes as a white
king with the goal of conquering not only the Germans but the love of his paired mulatto character,
Monique Blair, yet he is a tragic king as Sam Loggins, a true white King , is deemed the victorious
conqueror. From the beginning of the film, Britt Harris is portrayed as different from the rest of the
surrounding white army, putting emphasis on his blackness. Sam Loggins, his lieutenant, recognizes
his talent and intelligence and wonders how he is at such a low rank in the army. Later, Harris peers
are surprised to see him play an amazing trumpet solo at a jazz café. And finally, Britt Harris ends up

Britt s internalization of his blackness and constant externalization of whiteness has forced him to also
externalize a desire for a white lover. When this dream with Monique is shattered upon the realization
of her father s race, Britt finds it impossible to marry into mixed blood; this is the same blood that
courses through his veins. Monique, now heartbroken over her ex fiancé seeing her as immoral, finds
hope in another king, Sam Loggins. Sam Loggins presented himself as a white savior willing to see
past ethnicity, but this is only because he was not counted as a tragic character like Britt.
The success of Sam and the tragic failure of Britt alludes to a story of two kings going forth but only
one king coming out victorious against the enemy and with the lady, a king blessed with whiteness

The Philosohpy of Immanuel Kant
Immanuel Kant is referred to as the father of deontological ethics, which is also colloquially referred
to as Kantianism, which provides a sophisticated explication of deontology. His philosophy embodies
capitulating to one s maxim, which he beliefs that to be good, however, only if one s motives are
unconditional and irrespective to external reason. The maxim is referred to as the individual s intrinsic
duty or obligation to one s self or to others, which if applicable to everyone than it is congenial to the

Mill believes in the praxis of pleasure to accumulate the zenith of happiness, but with the absent of
pain. Motivation is irrelevant when regarding morality, because the result of one s actions determines
the morality, which is why utilitarianism is often referred to as consequentialism. This philosophy is
synonymous to a democracy in the sense that the majority hold the moral weight, One should act so as
to promote the greatest happiness to the greatest number of those who will be affected by the act.
There are two parts which constitute pleasure by mills standards, intellectual and bodily. Bodily
pleasures are those that are stimulating to animals, because it does not involve the intellect. Humans,
however, have facilities that are more evolved than that of nonhumans, so the intellectual pleasures are
more appealing to humans. Intellectual pleasures are of more value than bodily. He compares the
stimulation from the intellectual pleasures to that of an ethereal plant, meaning that one can easily
adulterate the culmination of the aesthetic appreciation, due to societal influences

Speech On How To Fix A Crashed Car Analysis
Introduction Today I will be giving a speech that is a mix between a demonstration and an informal
about how to fix a crashed car. I will go through the specific steps needed to get any car back on the
road. Slide 2 The first step in repairing a car is to decide whether or not it is worth it to fix the panel.
The picture on the left shows a small dent in the car which would be the perfect panel to fix, whereas
the picture on the right shows a hood that is crumpled and destroyed. With enough patience both
hoods could be fixed but it would be time and money ahead to get a new hood for the one on the right.
Slide 3 Now that you know you are going to fix the panel, you have to take the correct steps to get it
done. The first step is to clean ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many kinds of clear coat and they all perform in many different ways. One of the biggest
things you need to look for is whether you want to use a spot panel clear or an overall clear coat. This
is really just based on whether you are doing one panel or the whole car. Slide 24 Once everything is
covered in base and your decals are how you want them, it is ready to bury everything under clear
coat. Clear coat is what makes a car look good or bad and needs to be perfect. It is critical that when
spraying clear you take or time and get it to look perfect, without getting any runs. This is crucial,
because if you get a run in clear you have to stop and wait for to dry, then re paint then whole thing. If
it comes out good, then you are finally almost done with the car. Slide 25 Something that is constantly
changing is the style and type of spray guns there are. A few years back everybody used guns that had
the cup on the bottom and ran using a siphon method. Now today almost everyone uses a gravity feed
overhead cup gun. These are most efficient at using every drop of paint. Every gun is different in cup
size, spraying capacity, and size of the spray head. These all need to be looked at to find the correct
gun for what you are

By the early 1980, Intel s total share in DRAM was barely 1% and manufacturing was restricted to
one fab out of Intel s eight fab, where the Japanese semiconductor companies had captured nearly half
of the world memory market. There are several factors that forced Intel to exit the DRAM market,
those are the same lessons learned.
1. Intel was always the pioneer in inventing and enhancing the DRAM with respect to the price and
performance, but the industry was driven by necessity to cross license among established players. And
Intel was not on power at that time. Exhibit 6 shows the comparative intellectual property

Erikson s Stages Of Psychosocial Analysis
Erikson s first three stages of psychosocial development Basic trust or distrust: It is the first stage.
This is where the sense of personal and society confidence of the infant is developed through the

My Statement Of Purpose For Chemical Engineering
Learning Chemistry, Maths and Physics never got me tired. I ve started to experience enthusiastic
feelings towards those subjects during my high school as I was acknowledged to proceed with my
upper school in science stream. I couldn t agree more that being a science student is very challenging
as it involves critical thinking which relates with the theories and practical. However, after a couple of

Themes In All Quiet On The Western Front
Lost Generation on the Western Front In the novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, Erich Maria
Remarque demonstrates, through the character of Paul Baumer, how World War I was one of the
bloodiest wars in history. With more than 18 million deaths and 23 million wounded, it left a lasting
memory to many. Most of these men were young, so many of the men that came back after the war
had mental issues and were lost with society. Such things like Kemmerich s boots, the red poppies,
and the senselessness of the war itself. All of these teenagers that took on war at a very young age
were known in history as the lost generation . In the beginning of the war, many of these young
soldiers including Paul and his friends did not know what to expect. As the come into camp they
notice all the little things, such as the butterflies, white clouds, the red poppies in the field, and as the

Our daily lives are bombarded with pop culture and societal pressure of many sorts. This pressure may
come in various forms such as peer pressure, or even as simple as television shows or ads. It is
unusual that a high school or even a middle school student is unaware of what happens during a date.
Many of these students have even attended a date or have carried a relationship with someone

before marriage almost never came up before in the era before dating, but what has changed in today s

Inclusion In Special Education
Students across America with special needs have been integrated into classrooms with populations of
general education students. This integration of students with special needs and students in general
education is called inclusion. Inclusion is no longer an option for schools to choose or not choose.
Federal law now requires the inclusion of all students with special needs if that placement is the least
restrictive environment.
Public Law 94 142, which states that education will be provided to all handicapped children, was
enacted to prevent discrimination that was considered wide spread (Elliott et McKenney, 1998). An
amendment to this act in 1990, titled Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), stated that
the education of that person would include all academic areas, as well as the vocational and technical
areas of education (Cronis Ellis, 2000). Many high school instructors believe that the process of
including students with special needs into general education classes demonstrates reverse
discrimination for general education students. Some feel that there is a failure to meet the needs of
either regular or special education students (Winzer, 1998, p. 2). Because inclusion causes a change in
how educators teach and students learn, it becomes important to analyze the effects of inclusion on the
general education students to best serve both populations.
Teachers struggle with the concept of inclusion for a variety of reasons. Some feel that the students

More Than Just A Place Essay
More Than Just A Place
It takes some people a long time to get there and others no time at all. It is a place where a person
should feel relaxed and comfortable, in harmony with their environment. It is a place of refuge and its
doors should always be open. It can be where you go to after a long day of work or what you land on
to win the game for your team. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines it as one s place of residence,
the social unit formed by a family living together, or a goal to be achieved (356). This wonderful, yet
sometimes hard to find, place is called home.

She feels safe and comfortable.
We have our mail delivered to this place, and everything else we order. People know us sometimes by
where we live or where our home is. For example, if a person was to have a large, extravagant home
in a very nice neighborhood and we knew nothing else, except their house, we would probable assume
these people had a lot of money. We make our homes like ourselves, they are very different, from the
artwork to the architecture, they say a lot about our personalities. When you walk into someone s
home, a lot comes out. Not being able to find any dust on the counter tops may lead one to believe that
this person likes to clean or that they have a weekly maid come in and straighten things. Finding a
recycling bin in the garage, it is obvious that theses people are conscientious of the environment.
These are only a few examples of how our personalities are brought out in our homes.
The home can be defined as the social unit formed by a family living together. So the home is not a
place, or is it? It has been said that the home is where the heart is , but where is your heart? The home
is also, perhaps, where your family is. A man who has a family does not feel at home when away from
them. This is not only because his heart is with his family, but because he is somewhere

Who Is To Blame For Romeo And Juliet s Death Essay
Who must take the blame for the horrendous tragedy of Romeo and Juliet? Due to the historic conflict
between two rival families, Montague and Capulet, two lovers of the name Romeo Montague and
Juliet Capulet cannot be seen together. The rivalry causes Romeo and Juliet great distress in that their
families will never let them be together. Finally, after a failed plan from their pastor Friar Lawrence,
the two lovers unexpectedly commit suicide. Many may ask who is actually to be blamed for Romeo
and Juliet s death. It is clear from various elements in the play that the two families and fate are
responsible for the deaths of the two star crossed lovers. The two families played a huge role in the
events leading up to Romeo and Juliet s deaths. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Capulet only said this to Juliet because she refuses to marry Paris and all he wanted to do was make
Juliet untroubled. Juliet was forced to marry Paris the day after that in which she went to Friar
Lawrence s cell beforehand. She got an elixir that can solve her problems from Lawrence which made
her seem dead, but she is still alive. After all of this, Romeo visits Juliet to sleep with Juliet for
eternity in her tomb thinking she is dead by drinking poison. When Juliet has woken up, she found
Romeo dead. She retrieved a dagger from Friar to kill herself right next to Romeo, thus how did this
tragedy happen. In Conclusion, there are people to take the blame. It all started with the undisputed
hatred between two families which had a negative effect on Romeo, a Montague and Juliet, a Capulet.
The death of family members in Capulet and Montague intensified the energy of being enraged. Juliet
s parents thought it was the best for her to marry Paris, but that made the situation even worse. She
wanted to get away and escape with Romeo, yet that did not happen because of the letter not being
sent due to quarantine. Mostly the families and destiny led Romeo and Juliet, the two star crossed

Louis XIV, The Sun God
All That Glitters is Not Gold Louis XIV, also known an The Sun God, was the King of France from
1643 until his death in 1715. 1His reign as ruler lasted for more than 72 years and even today it is
considered as the longest reign of any monarch in European history. During his tenure as ruler, King
Louie XIV established France as the most powerful country in Europe, as he maintained a very strong
economy and played a significant role in influencing the politics of other European countries. Besides
its usage in worldwide diplomacy, he also helped establish the French language in becoming the most
widely used language in many subjects such as science and literature. The Sun God was known to be a
very popular arts enthusiast and under his patronage, he commissioned and funded many artists whose
works went on to become very famous and influential. One example includes his commissioning of
the legendary Palace of Versailles located in Paris. Due to the contributions made by Louis XIV,
people in the 17th century viewed France as the same way people all around the world today view the
United States, a major superpower. After his death, Louis XIV was succeeded by his great grandson
Louis XV, who was just 5 years old at the time. 2Louis XV, also known as Louis the Well Beloved,
was ruler of France from 1715 to 1774 and like his great grandfather, he also made great
advancements in the field of art as he introduced the Rococo style to Europe. This new elegant and

Promoting Gender Equality and Empowering Women
Introduction
As a child, I had always believed that there was only one difference between girls or boys, one of
them has cooties, besides that I had always thought of them as equals. As I grew out of that young and
venerable age, I slowly started to realize that even in first world countries, women were being
oppressed. They weren t seen as equals, simply because of their gender, not because of experience or
knowledge, just because they are women. If it took me that long to find out how sexist, a developed
country is how long will it take everyone. It is common knowledge, that life is better, but it is not
common knowledge that the discrimination is the same. That was when I had my doubts, will there be
any foundations that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Human Trafficking Human trafficking is the illegal practice of procuring or trading in human beings
for the purpose of prostitution, forced labor, or other forms of exploitation, basically it means
exploiting human beings for one s gain. This is a human rights violation and an extreme form of
abuse, some scary but true facts about Human Trafficking are 78% of Canadians agree that girls under
the age of 16 are not in prostitution by choice, 67% of Canadians agree that Canadian girls under the
age of 16 are being recruited/trafficked to work in prostitution against their will and
70% of Canadians agree that women are brought into Canada from other countries and forced to work
in prostitution against their will.
So if this is such a big problem, what is The Canadian Women s Foundation doing about this. Well
firstly they are investing nearly $1 million to fund organizations across Canada that prevent trafficking
and help girls and women escape sex trafficking and rebuild their lives from that. The Canadian
Women s Foundation, however is mostly focused on addressing the needs of vulnerable young girls
who have been forced into prostitution.
Empowering Girls The Canadian Women s Foundation wants every girl to believe in themselves and
know that they matter; they empower girls by investing millions in programs across Canada, which
encourage, physical activity, learning and leadership. This has proven to increase the girls self

The amendments to the Income tax Act, in 1939, made two vital structural changes: (i) appellate
functions were separated from administrative functions; a class of officers, known as Appellate
Assistant Commissioners, thus came into existence, and (ii) a central charge was created in Bombay.
In 1940, with a view to exercising effective control over the progress and inspection of the work of

of Inspection (Income Tax) was created. As a result of separation of executive and judicial functions,
in 1941, the Appellate Tribunal came into existence. In the same year, a central charge was created in

The Impact of Melting Ice Caps
The Impact of Melting Ice Caps
There is a large amount research demonstrating the impact of global warming on our planet. As the
overall temperature of the Earth increases, ice and snow masses are melting. As more ice and snow is
lost, the ocean s sea levels are rising. Additionally with less ice and snow, less sun light is reflected
into space and instead it is absorbed by the planet. The continual absorption of the heat in sunlight
gradually warms the planet along with other factors. Therefore, the loss of ice caps, glaciers, and snow
is furthering the increase in the temperature of the planet.
The polar ice caps play an enormous role in regulating the Earth s temperature. According to
Montgomery (2008), polar ice reflects close to 90 percent of rays from the sun back into space.
However, our dark oceans only bounce back around 10 percent of solar radiation (Calvin, 2008). One
of the most important properties of that both ice and snow share is a very high albedo. Albedo is the
amount of solar radiation reflected from an object or a surface (Cousineau, 2011). As glaciers and ice
caps melt due to a process called thermal expansion, the tendency of matter to change in volume as a
response to a change in temperature (Archer, 2007), our ocean s sea levels are rising at an extremely
fast rate. Worldwide our sea levels have risen 4 8 inches throughout the 20th century (Wunderground,
2013). With the loss of ice caps and the gain of more water in our oceans less and

Analysis of the Article The Flip Side of Internet Fame
CONTEMPORARY COMMUNICATIONS THE NARCISSISM CONNECTION Introduction In her
2008 article, The Flip Side of Internet Fame, Jessica Bennett explores some of the problems created
by the nature of the Internet in connection with the consequences of publicly released information in
the digital age. She details the account of a teenager whose life was affected very adversely by
someone else s choice to post an embarrassing video of him without his permission. She also outlines
some of the problems attributable to the fact that information posted online is not subject to any filter
for accuracy, fairness, or appropriateness. Public posting forums allow the publication of defamatory
statements about others with much fewer protections afforded by laws applicable to other types of
injurious and untrue communications about others. The issues raised by Bennett illustrate that the
Internet is still in its infancy in terms of how it is best integrated into society and regulated by the
same ethical, social, and legal principles as traditional forms of communications. It is likely that the
solution lies, not in the evolution of regulations or in limitations on free speech; rather, the solution is
likely to evolve naturally as subsequent generations develop a better and more nearly comprehensive
understanding of how to integrate their offline and online identities in ways that maintain their
privacy. Meanwhile, the deeper explanation of the contemporary digital communications

Ethics has become an important topic in business today with good reason. Just look at the headlines:

depression, financial crisis due to unethical behaviour by the banks etc. All of these cases are related
to consultants either directly or indirectly and they occurred due to the moral fallacy of some of them.
Ethics is an extremely relevant value in business and consulting. The presence of recognized ethics

For instance, both lawyers and accountants have agreed on profession specific codes of professional
conduct, and physicians still frequently take the Hippocratic oath. Regarding management consultants
the professional associations have formulated different sets of ethical rules. The contents of the
individual codes either specify what professional conduct is or they indicate what cannot be
considered as professional conduct. However, it is also obvious that professional rules only serve as
overall ethical guidelines. The consequence of this is that the professional when practising is exposed
to several more specific ethical issues for which there is no explicit or written solution.
Whether they deserve it or not, it is notable that consultants and their business morals have been
questioned and caricatured. Statements such as ``The new witch doctors or ``Consultants are people
who borrow your watch to tell you the time and then walk off with it have often been quoted. A
headline like ``They change colour according to the environment indicates a certain unreliability.
However, it also has to be recognized that consultants often operate in situations characterized by
ambiguity, sensitivity and bounded rationality. Therefore it can be expected that recipients in
situations where they might be slightly criticized will react with

The Business Model Of Uber And Dropbox
Around the world, people are chanting. Shame on Uber! Stop the evictions, stop the greed! They are
making signs. Homelessness: Love, Airbnb. They are organizing strikes in New York City. They are
storming headquarters in San Francisco. They are blocking roads in France. Uber drivers are
protesting Uber s sudden fare cuts. Community organizations are protesting Airbnb s opposition to
housing affordability bills. Taxi drivers are protesting Uber s opposition to comparable taxi regulation.
Their outrages differ but boil down to the same grievance these multibillion dollar companies are
exploiting the legal gray zone that is the sharing economy. Uber and Airbnb are two of many
technology firms promising visionary futures built on collaborative consumption, but without finding
a regulatory solution, the sharing economy s future may not be as bright as it seems.
What is the Sharing Economy?
An Emerging Business Model Uber, an application that connects ride hailing users with drivers, and
Airbnb, an online lodging platform that derives its name from bed and breakfasts, have practically
become synonymous with collaborative consumption. Companies compete to become the next Uber of
an industry. There is an Uber of flowers that delivers bouquets, an Uber of lawn care that encourages
lawnmower sharing, and even an Uber of medical marijuana (Entis, 2014). The analogy is precarious
considering the variations between these companies, but the basic premise of the sharing

others believe that having a tattoo makes you uneducated and a delinquent. Whatever the case is
tattoos have a bad reputation in America. However people with tattoos should be treated with the same

Essay on The Great Gatsby
In Class Essay
To what extent is The Great Gatsby a moral novel. Discuss.
The society our nation lives in today has developed morals and principles through the lessons
experienced from the past. The Roaring Twenties was a time of change and a chance to pave a path for
the person you wanted to become. Morals and principles served as guidelines rather than rules and
were merely preached that practiced. Thus, the severity of the immoral actions taking place created
opportunities for lessons to be learned. In his novel The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald illustrated
various moral lessons through the downfall and corruption of various characters based on their

Not only does the novel teach us to keep our judgment clear of distractions, it also demonstrates that
one should follow their own path and not others. Firstly, because Myrtle is bored with her own life she
chooses to improve her situation by dating Tom attempting to fit into his wealthy lifestyle. With the
influence of the dress her personality had also undergone a change. (33) Myrtle flaunts the dress as if
it were something of her everyday life pretending to fit into the temporary life of material wealth.

girl, who is disguised and actually his mother Venus. She tells Aeneas the background story of the
ruler of Carthage and how everything came to be. She also reassures Aeneas that his missing ships,
along with his other comrades, are safe and to continue the path into the city. Once Aeneas enters the
city and observes the progress of the developing city, he is ecstatic. This encounter shows how his
love for country is very focused. Instead of focusing on the individuals that may have been roaming
around the city as an object of love, he views the whole city, which was still in progress, as an object
of love. Aeneas goes and explores the queen s temple to come across scenes etched of his comrades
during the Trojan War. Aeneas speaks to Achates, who was one of his companions that survived the
storm, about these scenes along the walls and while feeding his spirit on empty, lifeless pictures, /
groaning low, the tears rivering down his face / as he sees once more the fighters circling Troy (Virgil,
563 565). These few lines from the text are quickly able to

Comparison of Genesis I and Exodus 20 Essay
The purpose of the creation story is not central to the Bible but serves as a prologue to the historical
drama, which are the central concerns of the Bible. The narrative focus in the Bible is on the story that
begins with Noah and is centered on the exodus from Egypt. The central event in the Bible is the
creation of the covenant and the giving of laws and commandments. Although the creation of the
world in Genesis I and the pronouncement of the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20 are two
completely different accounts in the Bible, there lies a similar theme between them: God creates an
orderly and hierarchical universe, both natural and moral.
In Genesis I, God creates an orderly natural universe. He separates and categorizes everything he ...

In conclusion, we human beings can rely on the order of nature to attain our ends.
In Exodus 20, God creates moral order. God s way of separation and categorization is a model for
human morality. Morality divides up actions into right and wrong, good and bad. To be moral is to
categorize actions and circumstances appropriately and follow the correct rules in each case. The Ten
Commandments serve as a guide for human beings to be moral. In disobeying these laws, God is well
known to punish, starting with Adam and Eve. God punishes because punishment is necessary in order
to create human beings who can be morally responsible for themselves. To be morally responsible, we
must be able to do the following things:
1. Recognize that we can choose to act one way or another. (Given the simplicity of life in the Garden
of Eden, Adam and Eve were barely aware of this.)
2. Be self conscious and self aware. We must be capable of looking at our actions or interpreting our
own actions.
3. We must be able to compare our actions to some ideal or standard of morality.
4. We must be able to stop and think before we act.
Recognition of a failure to follow God s commands brings about new capabilities. In violating God s
commandments, Adam and Eve come to learn that they can choose to live

1960 s Love Songs
The difference in love songs from today and in the 1960 s are different and alike in many different
ways. The first difference in these two songs is the amount of complexity within the songs as a whole.
The earlier song by Patsy Cline named She s got you has a lower level of word count and has a higher
amount of repetition. In contrast it is also a slower song, so it needed less words to fill the three
minute time slot. The song I hate you, I love you is more complex, with less repetition and has a better
explanation of what is trying to be portrayed in the song. The way that love was explained in the songs
was completely different from each other. The 1960 s were an entirely different era; society was
different and so were people. Love was handled differently, in both good and bad ways. Patsy Cline
explained it in more of a sweet, loving way with an undertone of longing for the person back. In I love
you, I hate you it is more emotional and in the song the two people are missing each other, but they
are both being too stubborn to tell each other and get back together. ... Show more content on

A few lines that empaphasize this in the two songs is I ve got your memory, or has it got me (line 15)
from She s got you and You want her, you need her/ and I ll never be her (81 82) in I hate you, I love
you . It s about missing someone. That s the main idea throughout both of these songs. The lyrics said
just earlier are probably the largest idea behind what it was saying that part finally gets the word
across. The rest of the song are just little hints to what the song is talking about. An example of this is
The only thing different, the only thing new/ I ve got the records, she s got you (7 8) in the song by
Patsy Cline. An example of this in the other song is It hurts me every time I see you/ realize how much
I need you . They are explaining it in different ways but it still has the same idea behind

The Perception Of Social Behavior In Bartleby, The Scrivener
In Bartleby, The Scrivener, Bartleby serves as the main character with his distinct nature that everyone
is trying to decipher. Despite the attention around Bartleby, much of the story also revolves around the
narrator, the lawyer, who tells the story through his perspective; this implies that the lawyer s ideology
and perception of societal norms shape the interactions between the lawyer and Bartleby but also how
the story is told. Take for example, if the lawyer disregards Bartleby and fires him on the spot, this
story would have ended rather quickly and been much different than it actually is. With this said, the
lawyer s peculiar attraction to Bartleby s strange behavior can be explained by the lawyer s innate
ideas of social norms and instruction that stems from the behavior of the other scriveners and his own
experiences. Bartleby s behavior is considered a deviation from the norm because of the conforming
behaviors of the other scriveners, Turkey, Nippers and Ginger Nut. As scriveners, they listen to their
employer, the lawyer, and do as they were told. Their actions and reactions build the idea of society
and how a scrivener should behave. Turkey is a short, pursy Englishman that is not far from sixty
years old who drinks on the job which makes his work in the afternoon ineffective. Nippers is an
ambitious fellow whose impatience stems from the mundane duties of being a mere copyist and has
trouble working in the morning due to his stomach issues. The last

How Did Nelson Mandela Change
South African apartheid activist Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918. Mandela came from a
royal family. Mandela attended law school at Fort Hare, but was suspended in 1940 due to a student
protest against bad food they were served. After he was suspended, Mandela and his friend fled for the
large city of Johannesburg. Mandela began studying in law firm and planned on becoming a lawyer.
Mandela eventually left to the city of Soweto. After Mandela moved to Soweto, he was introduced to a
man by the name of Walter Sisulu. Mr. Sisulu had a position in the African National Congress. In 1949
Mandela led a campaign, called the Defiance Campaign, which was promoting disobedience of
apartheid law. Mandela stated that I am angry at the white man, ... Show more content on

The change came fast and abruptly. Mandela weeks earlier, had proclaimed non violence, saying that
forswearing violence was not a moral principle, but a strategy; there is not moral goodness in using an
ineffective weapon. (Keller 4). Even though Mandela denied being violent throughout his life, he had
for a short time joined the South African Communist Party. While Mandela was a member of the
SACP, the press called him The Black Pimpernel . While he was a member of the SACP he did a lot of
violent sabotaging. In 1962 Mandela was captured by South African forces and Mandela was put on
trial, during the trial he had a speech that was heard around the world, where Mandela stated that he
would literally die for what he believed in. The speech established him as the true leader of the
international movement against apartheid. Mandela talked about many things in this long 4 hour
speech, such as saying I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black
domination, also stating to the court I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in
which all persons will live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal for which I
hope to live and to see realized (Keller 5). He truly opposed the separation of two groups of people.

The Ethics Of Johnson Johnson
Introduction Johnson Johnson is considered to be one of America s most admired companies. They
manufacture and sell a broad range of products from shampoo to Band Aids, to medical devices. They
also focus on research and development to help heal diseases and treat illness. The company does not
have a mission statement but they do have a Credo. This credo was written by Robert Wood Johnson
in 1943. 1 Our Credo: We believe our first responsibility is to the doctors, nurses and patients, to
mothers and fathers and all others who use our products and services. In meeting their needs
everything we do must be of high quality. We must constantly strive to reduce our costs in order to ...

We are responsible to the communities in which we live and work and to the world community as
well. We must be good citizens support good works and charities and bear our fair share of taxes. We
must encourage civic improvements and better health and education. We must maintain in good order
the property we are privileged to use, protecting the environment and natural resources. Our final
responsibility is to our stockholders. Business must make a sound profit. We must experiment with
new ideas. Research must be carried on, innovative programs developed and mistakes paid for. New
equipment must be purchased, new facilities provided and new products launched. Reserves must be
created to provide for adverse times. When we operate according to these principles, the stockholders
should realize a fair return.
History of the Company Johnson Johnson was founded in 1886 in New Jersey by three brothers
Robert Wood Johnson, James Wood Johnson, and Edward Mead Johnson. They started out producing
sterile surgical dressings. In 1893, they started selling baby powder. From there they moved on to
Band Aids, baby shampoo, Tylenol, contact lenses and stints to name a few of their many early
products. Johnson Johnson also provided disaster relief to Galveston, Texas after a devastating
hurricane 1900, and to San Francisco, California after an earthquake in the 1906. They also founded

A Star s Temperature And Luminosity Analysis
According to the book, If you know a star s temperature and luminosity, you can determine its radius
(Seeds 151). The luminosity of a star is related to its absolute magnitude, and its spectral class has a
relation to the star s temperature. So, in order to estimate the size of Betelgeuse, we would need both
its luminosity (in which we can substitute its absolute magnitude) and its temperature (spectral class),
which we have been provided. The absolute magnitude refers to the brightness of a star if it were 10
pc away (Seeds 145), and the lower the number the brighter the star (and vice versa). According to the
spectral sequence, which goes O, B, A, F, G, K, then M, O stars are the hottest...M stars, the coolest
(Seeds 148), with M stars being orange/red in color.
From here, one would use the Hertzsprung Russell Diagram, which compares luminosity and spectral
class in order to estimate a star s size. A H R diagram possesses ... Show more content on

So what does this mean in regards to Betelgeuse s size? Well, there is only one explanation: Although
they are cool, they are luminous, and that must mean they are larger and have more surface area than
main sequence stars of the same temperature (Seeds 154). This means that Betelgeuse is a red giant,
which are roughly 10 to 100 times larger than the sun (Seeds 154). In fact, according to the H R
diagram on page 155, Betelgeuse is even considered a supergiant, which are over a thousand times the
sun s diameter (Seeds 154). In conclusion, one can estimate the size of roughly any star if the absolute
magnitude (or luminosity) and spectral class (or temperature) is known using the H R diagram! In
Betelgeuse s case, we can estimate that it is an extremely large supergiant star based on its position on
the H R

Main Issues Affecting International Managers
INTRODUCTION: Enlarged competition and relaxed economic restrictions have given rise to the
development of the force of globalisation, which subsequently have led to multinational companies
and managers. In 2000, the global trade in exports and imports extended 25% of the world GDP
(Govindrajan Gupta 2000). The rise of globalisation speculates a number of imperative tests to
business seeking international incidence, more notably, to these business s global managers to
successfully help achieve this presence. Numerous strategic facets must be measured prior to
commitment at an international level, and afterwards. Continuous flexibility is essential in order to

Hoifstede (1984) asserts to have formulated the focal scopes of the notion of culture that affect work
practices in varying countries. These differentiating components of culture are: Power distance,
uncertainty avoidance, collectivism vs individualism, femineity vs masculinity and short vs long term
orientation. In a local culture framework, great power distance could turn into prospective corruptive
practices. Takyi Asiedu (1993) related the notion of power distance to the rampant corruption in the
sub Saharan Africa. Moreover, it is also found that greater power distance culture, people are more
tolerant and acceptable to unethical and immoral practices. In contrast, it is also assimilated that
greater power distance with the standardization of financial and accounting work ,which could lead to
less or more expensive to the company and its managers manner of conducting business. Uncertainty
avoidance nations are more inclined to have a more solidified legal regulations and more stringent
way of conducting business (Pagell Halperin 2001). In these type of nations, comprehensive auditing
tends to be executed more to check whether there is any defiance against the law and rules. These
nations seem to have a more standardised and streamlined accounting practices and little disclosure
levels (Hill 2004). Whilst from a contrary cultural perspective, a global establishment could possibly
view it quite expensive to adapt and integrate to the national standards and

Germans had no consideration of how much suffering was occurring they were basically beasts with no lack of remorse. Survival In Auschwitz, a memoir by Primo Levi, who has also personally lived the tremendous revolution of the attack towards Jewish people, he writes about the disasters occurring during this occasion, the way dehumanization had taken people s identity, and a plan to cope with the situation. A disastrous journey took place around 1943. A vast of Jewish people were captured by the Germans and with absolutely no knowledge they were being taken to a place of no hope. Behind ... Women are marginalised in A Streetcar Named Desire through their economic status, their mental health and their place as a woman in the society of 1940s. They are held as possessions for admiration and housework. Neither of the men in the play treat them as they should be treated, and see them as nothing more than a housemaker and a child bearer. Also, it is made prominently clear by Williams that no woman would be able to survive without a man at that time. However, at some occasions, Williams portrays that women can prove to be challenging if undermined. Blanche Dubois is an epitome of this portrayal of women in the 1940s. She s portrayed as a character who is running away from her past, whilst still dragging it with her, everything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They were meant to be flirtatious whist also being chaste. Blanche Dubois tries to maintain this image. However, without any people witnessing her, she s antithesis to this role. Her solution to her problems is via escaping to alcohol consumption, promiscuity and madness. This escape portrays that women in the new emerging world can no longer keep up with the role of a Southern Belle. It is the character of Stanley that forces her to fall out of this character and show other people who she really is. Here, Blanche is shown suppressed by him, which leads to her becoming powerless. She cannot overcome the power and dominance of Stanley. They have an ongoing feud with each other during the play. And as we know, it is Stanley who prevails through his rape of Blanche. This victory isn t just of Stanley over Blanche, it is a victory of masculinity over femininity, oppression over suppression, New America over Old South. By Stanley winning the feud, Williams displays that it s the man who holds all the cards. The rape implies the ultimate powerlessness of Blanche and women in the play. Ø Raw material cost: In Japan raw material cost is twice as much high as in America. Ø Production Process: Due to batch production system in ACC, there were changes required in production line every time product was changed which lead to less efficiency and lower expertise in churning out a product. In the film The Five Obstructions, constraints were used to combat Jorgen Leth s writer s block. Depending on the constraint, it can focus an artist s work. Like Anti art, constraints can offer a different perspective through potential forms of art, which is the basis of Oulipo. Restriction of what an artist can work with actually opens doors of creativity and new art forms. In The Five Obstructions, Director Lars von Trier advises Jorgen Leth on his work. Von Trier creates the first two obstructions for Leth. Leth proficiently completes the first constraint. However, von Trier criticizes Leth for using a translucent screen in the second constraint. I found Leth s use of the screen to be creative, but von Trier stuck to his guns and did not want any people to be shown from Mumbai, India. I found that the rigor that von Trier had to stick to his constraints was so that there was a consistency within the film. However, I appreciated Leth s creativity with the screen. Essay on The Sonnet Genre Combining with Figurative Language The Sonnet Genre Combining with Figurative Language Compare how the conventions of the sonnet genre combine with figurative language to create meaning in at least two texts. Originating in Italy, the sonnet was established by Petrarch in the 14th century as a major form of love poetry, and came to be adopted in England in the 16th century (Oxford Literary terms). Overtime there have been different types of sonnets written, for example the Italian (Petrarchan) sonnet, the English (Shakespearean) sonnet and the Spenserian sonnet. Spenserian sonnets combine both the Shakespearean and Italian forms. Just like the Shakespearean form it uses 3 quatrains followed by a couplet. However the rhyme scheme is like the Italian, linking all stanzas together ABABBCBCCDCDEE. An essential element of all three types of sonnets is that of the volta which is used to signify a change in subject matter, for example in the Italian form the volta normally occurs at the ninth line. The two sonnets I will be examining within this essay predominantly use the conventions of a Shakespearean sonnet. When exploring the conventions of Sonnet 18 we can see it has the typical conventions of a Shakespearean sonnet using three quatrains and a rhyming couplet. The first quatrain establishes the theme of comparing the speaker s beloved with a summer s day, and why it is difficult to do so. The whole of sonnet 18 is used as an extended metaphor, and this is seen from the very beginning: Shall I compare thee to a summers day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate (1 2) The sonnet begins with a metaphoric question, asking if the speaker should compare this person with summer. The speaker then answers by saying she is more lovely and more temperate this combines with the meaning created by the first quatrain immediately giving the reader an idea that the speaker feels his beloved ... Public Law 94 142, which states that education will be provided to all handicapped children, was enacted to prevent discrimination that was considered wide spread (Elliott et McKenney, 1998). Promoting Gender Equality and Empowering Women Introduction As a child, I had always believed that there was only one difference between girls or boys, one of them has cooties, besides that I had always thought of them as equals. As I grew out of that young and venerable age, I slowly started to realize that even in first world countries, women were being oppressed. They weren t seen as equals, simply because of their gender, not because of experience or knowledge, just because they are women. If it took me that long to find out how sexist, a developed country is how long will it take everyone. • 30. The Impact of Melting Ice Caps The Impact of Melting Ice Caps There is a large amount research demonstrating the impact of global warming on our planet. As the overall temperature of the Earth increases, ice and snow masses are melting. As more ice and snow is lost, the ocean s sea levels are rising. Additionally with less ice and snow, less sun light is reflected into space and instead it is absorbed by the planet. The continual absorption of the heat in sunlight gradually warms the planet along with other factors. Therefore, the loss of ice caps, glaciers, and snow is furthering the increase in the temperature of the planet. The polar ice caps play an enormous role in regulating the Earth s temperature. According to Montgomery (2008), polar ice reflects close to 90 percent of rays from the sun back into space. However, our dark oceans only bounce back around 10 percent of solar radiation (Calvin, 2008). One of the most important properties of that both ice and snow share is a very high albedo. Albedo is the amount of solar radiation reflected from an object or a surface (Cousineau, 2011). As glaciers and ice caps melt due to a process called thermal expansion, the tendency of matter to change in volume as a response to a change in temperature (Archer, 2007), our ocean s sea levels are rising at an extremely fast rate. Worldwide our sea levels have risen 4 8 inches throughout the 20th century (Wunderground, 2013). With the loss of ice caps and the gain of more water in our oceans less and ... • 32. Analysis of the Article The Flip Side of Internet Fame CONTEMPORARY COMMUNICATIONS THE NARCISSISM CONNECTION Introduction In her 2008 article, The Flip Side of Internet Fame, Jessica Bennett explores some of the problems created by the nature of the Internet in connection with the consequences of publicly released information in the digital age. She details the account of a teenager whose life was affected very adversely by someone else s choice to post an embarrassing video of him without his permission. She also outlines some of the problems attributable to the fact that information posted online is not subject to any filter for accuracy, fairness, or appropriateness. Public posting forums allow the publication of defamatory statements about others with much fewer protections afforded by laws applicable to other types of injurious and untrue communications about others. The issues raised by Bennett illustrate that the Internet is still in its infancy in terms of how it is best integrated into society and regulated by the same ethical, social, and legal principles as traditional forms of communications. It is likely that the solution lies, not in the evolution of regulations or in limitations on free speech; rather, the solution is likely to evolve naturally as subsequent generations develop a better and more nearly comprehensive understanding of how to integrate their offline and online identities in ways that maintain their privacy. Meanwhile, the deeper explanation of the contemporary digital communications ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The narrative focus in the Bible is on the story that begins with Noah and is centered on the exodus from Egypt. The central event in the Bible is the creation of the covenant and the giving of laws and commandments. Although the creation of the world in Genesis I and the pronouncement of the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20 are two completely different accounts in the Bible, there lies a similar theme between them: God creates an orderly and hierarchical universe, both natural and moral. In conclusion, we human beings can rely on the order of nature to attain our ends. In Exodus 20, God creates moral order. God s way of separation and categorization is a model for human morality. Morality divides up actions into right and wrong, good and bad. To be moral is to categorize actions and circumstances appropriately and follow the correct rules in each case. The Ten Commandments serve as a guide for human beings to be moral. In disobeying these laws, God is well known to punish, starting with Adam and Eve. God punishes because punishment is necessary in order to create human beings who can be morally responsible for themselves. To be morally responsible, we must be able to do the following things: 1. Recognize that we can choose to act one way or another. (Given the simplicity of life in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were barely aware of this.) 2. Be self conscious and self aware. We must be capable of looking at our actions or interpreting our own actions. 3. We must be able to compare our actions to some ideal or standard of morality. 4. The first difference in these two songs is the amount of complexity within the songs as a whole. The earlier song by Patsy Cline named She s got you has a lower level of word count and has a higher amount of repetition. In contrast it is also a slower song, so it needed less words to fill the three minute time slot. The song I hate you, I love you is more complex, with less repetition and has a better explanation of what is trying to be portrayed in the song. The way that love was explained in the songs was completely different from each other. The 1960 s were an entirely different era; society was different and so were people. Love was handled differently, in both good and bad ways. Patsy Cline explained it in more of a sweet, loving way with an undertone of longing for the person back. In I love you, I hate you it is more emotional and in the song the two people are missing each other, but they are both being too stubborn to tell each other and get back together. ... Despite the attention around Bartleby, much of the story also revolves around the narrator, the lawyer, who tells the story through his perspective; this implies that the lawyer s ideology and perception of societal norms shape the interactions between the lawyer and Bartleby but also how the story is told. Take for example, if the lawyer disregards Bartleby and fires him on the spot, this story would have ended rather quickly and been much different than it actually is. With this said, the lawyer s peculiar attraction to Bartleby s strange behavior can be explained by the lawyer s innate ideas of social norms and instruction that stems from the behavior of the other scriveners and his own experiences. Bartleby s behavior is considered a deviation from the norm because of the conforming behaviors of the other scriveners, Turkey, Nippers and Ginger Nut. As scriveners, they listen to their employer, the lawyer, and do as they were told. Their actions and reactions build the idea of society and how a scrivener should behave. Turkey is a short, pursy Englishman that is not far from sixty years old who drinks on the job which makes his work in the afternoon ineffective. Nippers is an ambitious fellow whose impatience stems from the mundane duties of being a mere copyist and has trouble working in the morning due to his stomach issues. The last ... Even though Mandela denied being violent throughout his life, he had for a short time joined the South African Communist Party. While Mandela was a member of the SACP, the press called him The Black Pimpernel . While he was a member of the SACP he did a lot of violent sabotaging. In 1962 Mandela was captured by South African forces and Mandela was put on trial, during the trial he had a speech that was heard around the world, where Mandela stated that he would literally die for what he believed in. They manufacture and sell a broad range of products from shampoo to Band Aids, to medical devices. They also focus on research and development to help heal diseases and treat illness. The company does not have a mission statement but they do have a Credo. This credo was written by Robert Wood Johnson in 1943. 1 Our Credo: We believe our first responsibility is to the doctors, nurses and patients, to mothers and fathers and all others who use our products and services. In meeting their needs everything we do must be of high quality. We must constantly strive to reduce our costs in order to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We are responsible to the communities in which we live and work and to the world community as well. We must be good citizens support good works and charities and bear our fair share of taxes. We must encourage civic improvements and better health and education. We must maintain in good order the property we are privileged to use, protecting the environment and natural resources. Our final responsibility is to our stockholders. Business must make a sound profit. We must experiment with new ideas. Research must be carried on, innovative programs developed and mistakes paid for. New equipment must be purchased, new facilities provided and new products launched. Reserves must be created to provide for adverse times. When we operate according to these principles, the stockholders should realize a fair return. • 48. A Star s Temperature And Luminosity Analysis According to the book, If you know a star s temperature and luminosity, you can determine its radius (Seeds 151). The luminosity of a star is related to its absolute magnitude, and its spectral class has a relation to the star s temperature. So, in order to estimate the size of Betelgeuse, we would need both its luminosity (in which we can substitute its absolute magnitude) and its temperature (spectral class), which we have been provided. The absolute magnitude refers to the brightness of a star if it were 10 pc away (Seeds 145), and the lower the number the brighter the star (and vice versa). According to the spectral sequence, which goes O, B, A, F, G, K, then M, O stars are the hottest...M stars, the coolest (Seeds 148), with M stars being orange/red in color. From here, one would use the Hertzsprung Russell Diagram, which compares luminosity and spectral class in order to estimate a star s size. A H R diagram possesses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So what does this mean in regards to Betelgeuse s size? Well, there is only one explanation: Although they are cool, they are luminous, and that must mean they are larger and have more surface area than main sequence stars of the same temperature (Seeds 154). This means that Betelgeuse is a red giant, which are roughly 10 to 100 times larger than the sun (Seeds 154). In fact, according to the H R diagram on page 155, Betelgeuse is even considered a supergiant, which are over a thousand times the sun s diameter (Seeds 154). In conclusion, one can estimate the size of roughly any star if the absolute magnitude (or luminosity) and spectral class (or temperature) is known using the H R diagram! In Betelgeuse s case, we can estimate that it is an extremely large supergiant star based on its position on the H R ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Main Issues Affecting International Managers INTRODUCTION: Enlarged competition and relaxed economic restrictions have given rise to the development of the force of globalisation, which subsequently have led to multinational companies and managers. In 2000, the global trade in exports and imports extended 25% of the world GDP (Govindrajan Gupta 2000). The rise of globalisation speculates a number of imperative tests to business seeking international incidence, more notably, to these business s global managers to successfully help achieve this presence. Numerous strategic facets must be measured prior to commitment at an international level, and afterwards. Continuous flexibility is essential in order to adapt to the fluctuating patterns at local, regional and international ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hoifstede (1984) asserts to have formulated the focal scopes of the notion of culture that affect work practices in varying countries. These differentiating components of culture are: Power distance, uncertainty avoidance, collectivism vs individualism, femineity vs masculinity and short vs long term orientation. In a local culture framework, great power distance could turn into prospective corruptive practices. Takyi Asiedu (1993) related the notion of power distance to the rampant corruption in the sub Saharan Africa. Moreover, it is also found that greater power distance culture, people are more tolerant and acceptable to unethical and immoral practices. In contrast, it is also assimilated that greater power distance with the standardization of financial and accounting work ,which could lead to less or more expensive to the company and its managers manner of conducting business. Uncertainty avoidance nations are more inclined to have a more solidified legal regulations and more stringent way of conducting business (Pagell Halperin 2001). In these type of nations, comprehensive auditing tends to be executed more to check whether there is any defiance against the law and rules. These nations seem to have a more standardised and streamlined accounting practices and little disclosure levels (Hill 2004). Whilst from a contrary cultural perspective, a global establishment could possibly view it quite expensive to adapt and integrate to the national standards and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
