I Stand Here Ironing, By Tillie Olsen And Everyday Use By...
The two short stories, I Stand Here Ironing by Tillie Olsen and Everyday Use by Alice Walker shows
two mothers being concerned about one of their daughter and question how their daughters have
turned out to be. The authors show this by using multiple symbols to convey the families relationship.
By this, the authors use the iron, quilt, and clock all to connect how each symbol shows a significant
meaning in the family.
In I Stand Here Ironing, Olsen conveys the symbolic meaning of an iron, which connects to Walker s
symbolism for the quilt in Everyday Use. Both these objects are ironically associated with a mother in
general. Furthermore, in these short stories, Olsen represents the iron as a mother s ability to smooth
out the wrinkles in her daughter s life. By this, the mother states, I stand here ironing, and what you
asked me moves tormented back and forth with the iron . In other words, she throws all her painful
emotions and guilty of not being a mother to her daughter Emily into the iron. In addition, the iron
tries to destroy these emotions that are a representation as wrinkles . Also, as the narrator is ironing
back and forth, the action is used as a flashback as where she went wrong in raising Emily. Similarly,
Walker shows how ironically a quilt is like a mother, in where both share a legacy and are also used
for comfort. In this short story, a mother tries to reconnect with her daughter through their heritage,
but later realizes that she cannot give

The Global Issue Of Overpopulation
Since the early twentieth century, the world s population has exploded copiously.. This phenomenon
known as overpopulation has been called a threat to humanity, and people all across the world are
affected by it. There is inadequate housing to shelter the population, not enough resources for the
population to continually utilize, pollution, habitat loss, and much more. Politicians and scientists
alike are striving to solve this problem.: In evaluating the global issue of overpopulation, one can
determine the solution to it through limiting children by creating a law, implementing the policy, and
appropriately enforcing the limit. To begin to steady out the superfluous population, one must
understand the crux of the dangers of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There should be worldwide taxes imposed on items such as diapers and baby wipes in rich countries,
and the money collected from the taxes will be wired to the UN and WHO. Anyway, there is evidence
that a limit like this works. The birth rate in China has fallen since 1979, and the rate of population
growth is now 0.7 per cent. ( Managing Population Change ). That is a great statistic considering that
it was 1.9 percent in 1950. On the other hand, the limit should be set to two or three for poor,
underpopulated countries because decreasing an overpopulated nation s population would cripple it
financially and socially. Creating a childbirth limit similar to that of China and revising it is the first
step to controlling the population. After a plan is engendered, it must be implemented worldwide. The
UN will make it an international law that is imperative and obligatory to follow, and each nation s
government will do their part in imposing it upon their citizens. The UN will observe each nation s
population and then implement a limit that is reasonable with the population, so that poor,
underpopulated countries will not be destroyed, but one with gargantuan populations will have a
logical limit set. Every nation with over two hundred fifty million people or one hundred fifty million
people and an annual population increase of 1.5 percent or more will need to implement a one child
policy. Nations with fifty million up to one hundred fifty million

[Writer Name] [Supervisor Name] [Subject] [Date] History of the English Language and some of the
many Factors that have influenced its Evolution Language is surely the most influential form of
communication. It is the most powerful instrument an individual can have. By definition, language is
the use voice sounds by human beings, organized in order to express and communicate thoughts and
feelings. It is what has shaped our society into what it has become today, what has allowed our

And semantic indeterminacy is the ether of attitude of language. It fills the interstices of our intentions
and pervades accounts of presupposition, tense, fiction, translation, and especially, elusiveness.
Language is primarily formed through the interaction of people. This interaction could be of any
nature, but in today s world when English is undoubtedly the universal language, external factors play
a pivotal role in English language s evolution. Therefore, it would be imperative to look at the
influences of these factors on the English language. The English language of today reflects many
centuries of development (Naomi 24). The political and social events that have in the course of
English history so profoundly affected the English people in their national life have generally had a
recognizable effect on their language. The Christianizing of Britain brought England into contact with
Latin civilization and made significant additions to our vocabulary. The Scandinavian invasions
resulted in a considerable mixture of the two races and their languages. The Norman Conquest made
English for two centuries the language mainly of the lower classes, while the nobles and those
associated with them used French on almost all occasions (Baugh 2). And when English once more
regained supremacy as the language of all elements of the population, it greatly changed in both form
and vocabulary from what it had been in the 11th century.

Terrorism Impact On Terrorism
1. Introduction
Twelve years have passed since four coordinated terrorist bomb attacks occurred in central London on
the 7th of July in 2005, conducted by four suicide bombers. Three of the attacks took place in London
Underground trains, on the Circle line near Aldgate, on the Piccadilly line near Russel Square and at
Edgware Road. The fourth bomb attack happened on a double decker bus in Tavistock Square. The
attacks happened during busy rush hour and the was one hour between the three London Underground
train attacks and the attack on the bus. Fifty two people were killed and more than 700 were injured in
the attacks, the bomb attack being the worst terror attack in the UK since the 1988 Lockerbie
bombing. This terrorist attack affected people severely physically, but most of all, emotionally. The
results of a telephone survey done within the general population of London after the July 7th
bombings, show that 55% of 1,010 participants felt their life was in danger from terrorism and 86% of
the participants thought that another attack on London was likely in the near future (Greenberg, Rubin,
Wessely, 2005).
In the past decade, there have been an increased amount of terrorist attacks in Europe, such as terrorist
attacks in Paris in November 2016 and in Manchester Arena in May 2017. Whenever a terrorist attack
happens in Europe, it is widely reported on various media outlets and the extensive media network of
present day allows news to spread quickly. Consequently, even

Research Paper About Quebec
Have you ever visited the city Quebec? It s a old city located in Canada, just barely north of the

this purpose. There are a bunch of bands, and usually couches and carpets that the audience can sit on
while watching the bands. Some of the performances are outside, while some of them are in tents to
protect the audience from the wind and cold. There are also other booths, like shops and such. My dad
and I went in one where they use a green screen to make it look like you re at a concert!
There are many things that students can enjoy there. There s many kinds of foods, like escargot,
chocolate croissants, and french onion soup. As mentioned earlier, there is also a fancy castle hotel
which people can stay in. You can visit stores there which sell all different kinds of products.
In Quebec, there are many family attractions, which include fancy family friendly restaurants. There
are lots of historical spots and museums, which the family can drop by to receive a quick history
lesson. There s also hotels all over, so you won t have a hard time finding a place to stay.
I say that Quebec is a great place to visit, both historically and recreationally. See you there

Several faces were painted as Calaveras, or skulls; some were colorful, intricate designs, others were

of the Dead is celebrated on November 2nd. This was the 42nd day of the Dead event hosted by Self

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Deficit Spending
Deficit Spending and the Crowding Out Effect
Andrew L. Petereck
American Public University System
Abstract
Deficit spending applies to businesses, governments, and individuals alike. In relation to governments,
deficit spending refers to spending more money than taking in over a given period (Investopedia, n.d.).
Some Keynesian economists argue that deficits are a necessary evil needed to stimulate an economy.
In theory, the deficit spending fills a gap in consumer spending during a recession by increasing
government purchases to balance out the aggregate demand and stabilize the unemployment rate
(Investopedia, n.d.). However, the downsides to deficit spending include possibly lowering GDP and
increasing debt. Lastly, crowding out is known as the process where high government spending takes
opportunities away from private sectors, hence the name crowding out (Investopedia, n.d.). This paper
will explain some of the advantages and disadvantages to deficit spending while reviewing some of
the effects of crowding out in an economy. Keywords: deficit spending, crowding out,
Deficit Spending and the Crowding Out Effect The debate over the effectiveness of deficit spending
has been ongoing for years and will continue to be debated for years to come. Keynesian economists
argue deficit spending is necessary for the survival of an economy, claiming the economy would not
recover fast enough without it. Other economists argue an economy shouldn t

Protein Synthesis Lab
** The Low vs. High column shows how each protein band was influenced by the salt. If band was
present in both conditions, it was noted what condition had and increase or if they were equal.
Discussion
I studied the expression of V. parahaemolyticus expression of OM protein when grown in a high and
low salt condition. I hypothesized that V. parahaemolyticus would increase the expression of OM
proteins in a high salt condition and lower the expression of OM proteins in a low salt condition. As
shown in the results section, V. parahaemolyticus expressed more proteins when it was grown in the
high salt environment, thus my hypothesis was supported. I predicted that the bacterium would build a
wall of proteins around itself to help maintain it stay isotonic state. My results showed that more
proteins were expressed but I do not have results to prove that those proteins were used to keep the

parahaemolyticus will express more protein when grown in a high salt environment vs. a low salt
environment. V. parahaemolyticus is likely to use more energy while in high salt environments in
order to express the extra proteins. My results are almost identical to other lab groups who tested the
expression of V. parahaemolyticus OM proteins in high and low salt. Bio152 Lab section A03
unpublished results, table B and C, also showed the same protein band expressed in my figure (figure

likely to express more proteins when grown in a high condition of either iron or calcium vs. a low
condition of Iron or Calcium (Bio152 Lab section A03, unpublished results). It is interesting to note
however that an increase of Iron did not have as great of protein expression as salt or calcium did.
That could be due to Iron not having as adverse effects on a cell as salt or calcium

Terrible Transportation in Las Vegas The RTC, Regional Transportation Commission, is the only bus
system all around the Las Vegas area and it covers most of the valley. People all over this vast city
depend on this multicultural transit system, whether they are old, young, rich, or poor. Nevertheless,
riding the bus in Las Vegas is not only dangerous, it is time consuming, on top of being a filthy place
to expose oneself to. The bus in this city is alarming to ride in many areas of the town as passengers

Swot Analysis Of Netflix
Due to the company s high dependence on the cost of content licensing and relationships with content
providers, the company is vulnerable at many levels.
Netflix suffers low profit margins due to the cost of international expansion and currency fluctuations.
Netflix faces tough competition with companies that broadcast live, unique and free content through
torrents and cable television.
Unlike its competitors Hulu and Amazon, Netflix does not generate income through advertisements.
At an international level, the dependence on laws and regulations of different countries is an obstacle
to the company s potential growth.
Netflix s high dependence on internet connectivity makes it difficult to gain popularity in many parts
of Asia and Africa, where internet connectivity is not well established.
Domestic providers tend to produce or broadcast series that are designed to match the customer s
needs. This can be challenging for Netflix to match.
Its dependence on the regulations and laws of different countries is a hinderance to Netflix s
international expansion. For example, in spite of China s attractive market with a massive broadband
capable population, it was very difficult for Netflix to operate due to strict regulations on the country s
media and entertainment industries. https://www.cayenneapps.com/swot app/swots/47887/analysis

Essay on Krishna s World View

Krishna s World View
The Bhagavad Gita uses the conversation between Pandava Prince Arjuna and his guide Lord Krishna
to portray Hinduism world view and Krishna s view on the different fundamental questions. When he
s facing a war, Arjuna is guided by Krishna to be a selfless leader, and dedication to the cause.
Origin, this fundamental question focuses on why is there something rather than nothing. One
important aspect of the Krishna world view is that, there is one ultimate reality in which everything
was already in existence. The Brahman, as the ultimate reality is known, is what manifested anything
that has been created. Thus, as it is stated in Rigveda, that existence was ... Show more content on

You cannot make out what exists in it, yet it is there. It is this very fineness which ensouls this entire
world, it is the true one, it is the soul. and Everything that exists has its self in that subtle essence. (1.4

not born; it will never die and thus, the spirit kills not, not it will be killed. (2.16) in the same section,
he also described the ones who thinks a spirit kills and the ones who think a spirit can be killed, are
both ignorant. The spirit then in Krishna s view, is immortal and everlasting. * As the prince asked
Lord Krishna on whether he should kill for the war, Krishna used the arguments above and more to
show that there would be transcendence and so on, and when a person is killed , his or her spirit would
just throws away its worn out body and enters a new one.
Krishna also addressed the issue of the attachment over reality. * Krishna pointed out that most people
are afraid of death, and that the ignorance described previously is what preventing them from
achieving immortality. Only those who have realized that the impermanent has no reality and the
reality lies in the eternal; and have seen the boundary between these two would have attained the end
of all knowledge. (Bahagavad Gita 2.15) * He sees that the human seeks only the gratification of

Recitatif Toni Morrison Summary
It is the expectation of this paper to take a gander at Toni Morrison as an author and how she
communicated her political perspectives through fiction. The short story by Ms. Morrison Recitatif ,

because you cannot take others paths to live your life. Life is your adventure and what you make of it.
I have always loved life and the people that are in it. Since I was a child I have had the biggest dreams

make that any dream come true I focused on these three things: being determined, encouraging others,
and hardworking.

After the first semester, we will be shadowing nurses in the Salida Hospital and seeing what they deal
with hand on hand.
With that, I have always loved helping people break not only from their comfort zone but helping
them achieve better than they have before. An example of this is when someone needs help, I ask them
what is stopping them from achieving, I push and make them fight for what they want. This same
tactic is what a nurse needs to help her/him succeed in encouraging patients that they can do it. I
attended the 2017 Summer Student Council Camp, and just telling my story of pushing through my
rough patch in my life encouraged others to say to themselves they don t only have it hard too , and I
saw personally how my story affected them and they pushed harder and took life in a different
perspective.
Additionally, I have always put my heart and soul into all that I do, I have always strived and been a
very hardworker. For instance, I worked weeks on a paper for entering the Sangre De Cristo Youth
Tour for the Colorado Electric Assassination and after all my hours of putting thought and organizing
papers, I won the trip to Washington DC through my Electric Co op, which was an honor all in itself.
After all my recovering after surgery I kept on my game and I was later rewarded as student of the
month. During school hours teachers have to teach instead of printing off their papers, so that is where
I come in. I have been a teacher assistant for

Human Development Index to Measure Living Standards Within...
INTRODUCTION
Through the ages, economists worldwide have developed different measurements, statistics and
standards in order to have an anchor number on how to rate whether they be the development, their
perceived inequality among other variables within a country. Because of this, and on the endeavour to
unify the measurement of the current situation of a country, the United Nations via the United Nations
Development Program in 1990 developed and first published their Annual Human Development
Report featuring for the very first time in history the Human Development Index (Stanton, 2007).
According to the United Nations (UN), Human Development is the process by which society can
improve the living conditions of its citizens through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Naturally the UN has addressed these claims and has improved the index within the years, but there is
always space for improvement.
The HDI had withstood several critics regarding the poor quality of the data used in the calculations,
regarding the selection of indicators and even on the calculations and the formulation itself;
nevertheless, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) rebutted some of those claims and
used others to improve the HDI calculations. (Stanton, 2007). The HDI, with or without flaws, has up
to some extent shaped the way we assess and compare countries. Thanks to the HDI, the development
is implied when talking about wellbeing instead of only looking at raw numerical information.
Hopefully in the future, the Index shall be improved even more, to finally have a definitive Index on
development worldwide.
In the year 2000, the UN established eight international development goals regarding: poverty,
education, gender equality, child mortality, maternal health, HIV and other diseases, environmental
sustainability and global partnership. (Nations, n.d.). For this paper, the HIV pandemic shall be
analysed. The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is the virus that serves as root for the acquired
immunodeficiency syndrome or AIDS which is a disease that compromises the human immune system

Dalai Lama And The Lama
Dalai Lama I pray for a more friendly, more caring, and more understanding human family on this
planet. To all who dislike suffering, who adore lasting happiness this is my heartfelt appeal. The
fourteenth Dalai Lama who was born on July 6. 1935 is came from a very small village in northeast
Tibet called Taktser. The Dalai Lama is the fourteenth leaders of Tibet. The Dalai Lama means
different things to different people. Dalai Lama called Ocean of Wisdom . The Tibetan Government
had not simply to appoint a successor, but to discover the child in whom the Buddha of Compassion
would incarnate, the child need not have been born just at the death of His precursor, or even very
soon thereafter when the thirteenth Dalai Lama died in 1935. As before, there would be signs of where
to search. For example, when the Thirteenth Dalai Lama s body was laid in a temple facing south, His
head turned to the east twice, and to the east of his temple a great fungus appeared on the east side of a
pillar of well seasoned wood. The Regent of Tibet went to the sacred lake of Lhamoe Lhatso, where
Tibetans have seen visions of the future. There he saw, among other things, a monastery with roofs of
green jade and gold and a house with turquoise tiles. A detailed description of the entire vision was
written down and kept a strict secret. The most successful and informative way to comprehensive the
Dalai Lama s reputation among

Challenges Faced By The Australian Government And Designers
Australia, like many other countries across the globe, faces challenges presented by existing climate
conditions and the future rates of change. Today s decisions, policies, and developing technologies
may alter the ways that climate change will impact the country. As a whole, the Australian government
and designers are already beginning to address these issues through the implementation of sustainable
building codes and the use of climate responsive design and materials that will adjust as the climate
does.
While the smallest of the world s continents, Australia is a vast country, the sixth largest in the world,
covering over 7.5 million square kilometers. While generally one of the flattest and driest regions,

The number of extreme fire risk days has grown over the past four decades as well, more than doubled

Additionally, heatwaves are among the highest impact climate events in terms of human health,

not simply able to ignore. With these problems only continuing to get worse, the nation is being forced
to look at means of further adaptation, and sustainability issues are being considered for stricter
regulation, or else it will see potentially disastrous decline of its economy, infrastructure, environment,

Fredrick Douglass Essay
The purpose behind Fredrick Douglass s Narrative was to appeal to the other abolitionists who he
wanted to convince that slave owners were wrong for their treatment of other human beings. His goal
was to appeal to the middle class people of that time and persuade them to get on board with the
abolitionist movement. Douglass had a great writing style that was descriptive as well as convincing.
He stayed away from the horrific details of the time, which helped him grasp the attention of the
women who in turn would convince their husbands to help by donating money and eventually ending
slavery. He used his words effectively in convincing the readers that the slave owners were inhuman
and showed how they had no feelings for other human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This meant that these bastard children were slaves despite their paternal heritage because their mother
was a slave. The effect of this revelation was to shock and offend the morals of the conservative
Northern whites. Northern society scorned people in adulterous and interracial relationships. By
portraying these Southerners as immoral and adulterous, Douglass wanted to cultivate in his audience
a damaging opinion of southern slaveholders (Quarles ix).
Continuing with the theme of family values, Douglass shifts to the basic family unit. Their master
separated Douglass and his mother when he was an infant, for what reason he does not know
(Douglass 2). No one gave Douglass an explanation because this situation was customary on
plantations. Douglass wanted to horrify his Northern white readers by informing them that
slaveholders regularly split slave families for no apparent reason. This obviously would upset
Northerners because the family unit was the foundation for their close knit communities. Multiple
generations and extended families lived together or near each other. It was unimaginable to the readers
that a society existed that took children away from their mothers without reason. Northerners would
think of anyone who was part of such a society as a heartless monster (Quarles ix).
Another example of how Douglass used family values against southern slaveholders was in the
treatment of his grandmother. When Douglass s master decided

psychologies also know as a study of the thought processes and behavior of humans and other animals

Chunking was a unit of memory, where overcoming short terms memories that can be remembered are
five to nine information. In this process, it s difficult to us to remembering data with more than nine,
this because the STM desktop capacity are limited.
Long term memory
Long term memory refers to the continuing storage of information. In Freudian psychology, long term
memory would be call the preconscious and unconscious. This information is largely outside of our
awareness, but can be called into working memory to be used. Some of this information is fairly easy
to recall, while other memories are much more difficult to access. In long term memory, Tulving
(1972, 2000) has proposed the existence of three kinds of long term memory storage, which have
different properties, and based on different brain mechanisms. The three long term memory storage
are; procedural memory, semantic memory and episodic memory.
Procedural memory is used to storage the memory of movement and skills, such as writing, cook or
other movement and skills that related to our daily life. Semantic memory is memory for meaning
without reference to the time and place of learning, and episodic memory refers to memory for
specific experience that can be define in terms of time and space.

Visual Information Processing
The human brain is capable of perceiving and interpreting information or stimuli received through the
sense organs (i.e., eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and skin) (Weiten, 1998). This ability to perceive and
interpret stimulus allows the human being to make meaningful sense of the world and environment
around them. However, even as the human being is able to perceive and interpret stimuli information
through all sense organs, stimuli is most often or primarily interpreted using the visual (eyes) and
auditory (ears) sense organs (Anderson, 2009). However, for the purpose of this paper, the visual

37).
Visual Impairments When damage to certain regions of the brain occurs, conditions may develop
where one is able to register visual information but incapable to distinguish anything (Anderson,
2009). Consequently, difficulties with visual impairments can include an inability within the brain to
interpret and or process visual information (Anderson, 2009). Thus, visual perception impairments or
disorders typically refer to the inability to make sense of information received through sight (the eyes)
(Weiten, 1998). One such visual perception disorder is visual agnosia. Visual agnosia refers to the
...inability to recognize objects that results neither from general intellectual loss nor from a loss of
basic sensory abilities, (Anderson, 2009, p. 32). There are generally two types of visual agnosia:
apperceptive agnosia and associative agnosia. Apperceptive agnosia is the inability to recognize or
draw simple shapes as they are shown or represented. Associative agnosia is the ability to recognize
and copy drawings of simple and complex shapes. However, person with associative agnosia are
unable to recognize the complex objects (Anderson, 2009). Visual agnosia can drastically affect one s
ability to learn. For example, a child with visual agnosia may find it difficult to recognize letters and
numbers, thereby making it difficult to learn to read and perform other tasks imperative for retaining
information learned. To compensate for the

Violence On The Rise Of Contemporary Society
Violence on the Rise Contemporary society has evolved around materialism due to an incessant rise of
scientific and technological innovations. While some may argue man is living in the most peaceful era
in American history, the incline of man s tendency to value material possessions above spiritualism
has effectively caused an erosion of general morality, a revision of social normalization, and an
increase in violent actions. Children are the leading advocates in this societal evolution. Patently, their
breeding is exposed to more distinguished violent content in films and in video games. Equally, a
fixation on their cellular device and its uncensored social media have become the sources of man s
elevating violence. Certainly the upbringing of twenty first century children does not emulate the
upbringing of twentieth century children. Culture s newfound embracement of technology has left
violent material predisposed to the underdeveloped brain of a child. Movies and video games labeled
as PG 13 now are beginning to resemble the content of rated R movies in a previous generation. Much
of the violence is cartoonishly sterilized and bloodless to ensure a rating that attracts the youthful
population (Bozdech). Surely, children are viewing irresponsible projections of conflicts that
undermine the austerity and ramifications of sincere violence. They grow to become desensitized by
violence, understanding it to be an ordinary occurrence and often the solution to a problem.

Prologue
One year ago
All was quiet within in the Forest of Forever Winter, the snow descended from the dark moon lit sky.
Snow builds in the branches of the many dark skeletal trees. Treading through the snow filled path
was a shrouded figure wearing black and blue garments beneath a slightly tattered navy blue cloak
with black inner lining, billowing in the breeze. The lower half of his face was obscured by a black
mask and his eyes hidden beneath the hood. Strapped across his back is a Daitō with a lock attached to
the sheath and the latch hooked to the guard.
The figure treaded through the snow filled path until the sound of a snapping twig and faint growls
coming from behind stopped him in his tracks. Taking the moment to listen noises he came to the
obvious conclusion. There was no mistaking those sounds...Beowolves, he thought to himself. As the
next twig snapped he un holstered a pair of old and battered flintlock pistols. Both are fitted with box
magazines with barrel length bayonets in front of the trigger guards.
Soon coming from behind the trees and foliage was a large black werewolf like creature with outer
bone white spikes, armor, and mask adorned with blood red designs and eyes. It was a Beowolf, one
of the many variations of the Creatures of Grimm . The Beowolf held its head high followed by a load
roar and charged him on all fours.
The hunter squeezed the trigger, the first flintlock fired a whistling flair that struck its intended target

US Strategy in Fighting Terrorism With Military Force Essay
With recent operations by the Pakistani military and drone attacks by the US, these safe havens are
being attacked, but they remain a major refuge for the Taliban and other insurgents. Complicating the
matter are allegations of Pakistani Intelligence (ISI) support for the Taliban and Pakistani fears of
Indian influence in Afghanistan.
Recent US strategy in fighting terrorism with military force revolves around three central ideas a
counterinsurgency (COIN) philosophy recognizing the importance of civilians, covert operations and
investigative work, and the use of drones. The COIN philosophy today recognizes the importance of
civilian attitudes and casualties. As such, American air attacks have been curtailed, despite the military

Even if no civilians have been killed, the perception is not good for the US, both in Pakistan and the
world at large. With the Pakistani military engaged throughout its northwestern territories in massive
operations to root out terrorists, accompanied by the displacement of millions of civilians, the use of
US drone attacks is an attractive alternative, allowing action to be taken without overstretching the
Pakistani military.
There remain many legal and moral issues associated with the pursuance of counterterrorism. The
primary concern is the treatment of prisoners. Although the Geneva Conventions protect uniformed
military personnel from mistreatment, it is argued that they do not apply to terrorists and insurgents as
they are not uniformed and do not obey any recognized government. In addition, the Bush
administration classified them as enemy combatants denying them rights such as trials and formal
charges while detaining many indefinitely at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Although President Obama has
signed orders closing Guantanamo Bay, this has yet to occur; albeit multiple transfers of prisoners
have occurred . In addition, the issue of

Central African Republic Research Paper
The earliest group of settlers in the area, now known as the Central African Republic, were hunter
gatherers who first settled there 10,000 years ago. Many settled by the Ubangi River which is located
in the eastern part of the Central African Republic. They became farmers who specialized in growing
yams, millet, sorghum, and bananas and domesticated the African palm oil. Beginning in the 1500s,
Muslim slave traders began to attack the region capturing and enslaving many native Africans using
the Ubangi River to transport them to the coastal ports where they would be sold to the Americas.
In 1875, this region was governed by the sultan of Sudan, Rabih az Zubayr, who called his empire
Oubangui. In 1887, France legally claimed the land to the right of the Ubangi river. In 1889, the
French built their first outpost at Bangui, which is today s capital of the Central African Republic. The
French began occupying this area in 1894 but, due to the Rabih War a colonial government was not

The success of the Manhattan Project can be attributed to two key leaders. Robert Oppenheimer was
the head of the scientists doing the research and development of the atomic bomb. Leslie Groves was
the military leader of in charge of the entire project. These leaders faced many problems in this effort,
some they solved working together as a very unlikely team and others required the unique skill set that
each of them had to bring to bear on this issue. The innumerable problems with this wartime effort can
be broken into three broad categories; scientific, personality or human, and logistical. The first of
these, the scientific problems would seem to be primarily Oppenheimer s to deal with and many of

them to be independent researchers, working on a problem and following it to whatever conclusion or

and wanted to only give out the pieces of the overall project to those people that absolutely must

personally to succeed, Groves had a far more military view. He expected that his advice (orders) were

When they were overthrowing the Kings, such as Brutus, they began to make new laws and make
many political changes such as the valerian laws, condemning anyone claiming to be King as traitor,
the formation of three voting assemblies, etc. but backtracking, in order to overthrow the Kings, the
patricians and plebeians united in their efforts to rid of them. Unfortunately, upon the overthrow of the
kingship and the birth of the new republic, the major victories and power fell in hands of the
patricians. One such example is this. The comitia centuriata is one of the three voting assemblies.
From the Romans historic statement information The plebeians could, it is true, still vote in the
comitia centuriata; but they could not hold any of the new offices, nor could they sit in the senate. The
patricians could though. It would not have been so bad, and the plebeians would not have been in such

the plebeians saw it, the patricians were not better than the kings area, flaunting their wealth, but

The Prevalence Of The Anti-Hero Archetype In Modern Society
The Prevalence of the Anti Hero Archetype in Modern Society The hero archetype has prevailed
throughout literature and media for thousands of years. This quixotic character completes a quest or
expedition with little to no faults. In recent times, the ideal hero archetype is challenged by the
untoward anti hero archetype. Today, the anti hero is largely represented and featured in recent film
and society. The hero archetype is losing prevalence in modern fiction stories due to the increasing
demand of the anti hero. The original hero archetype greatly contrasts the modern anti hero archetype.
A hero is someone who displays little to no flaws and is widely liked by the majority. This character
presents its storyline with exceptional traits. The anti hero archetype is completely opposite of the
hero archetype. Unlike the traditional hero who is morally upright and steadfast, the anti hero usually
has a flawed moral character (Michael). Modern anti heroes lack in grace, power, and social success
(Neimneh). They deal with issues and insecurities such as alcoholism and infidelity (Michael). Anti
heroes make unpleasant moral compromises, in contrast to the desired, in order to reach something.
They want to create order where it is impossible and put the protagonist to justice . Traditional hero
characters often succeed when trying to complete their quests, which contrasts the extremely grimm
success rate of anti hero victory. Anti heroes also do not let their inner thoughts influence their actions
while original or traditional heroes seek self definition (Teleky). Traditional hero characters often
succeed when trying to complete their quests, which contrasts the extremely grimm success rate of
anti hero victory. The faultless ways of the hero archetype sets it apart from people in society, making
it extremely unrelatable to the mass amount of humans today, allowing the anti hero archetype to
prevail through. The changes thorough media have led to the decline of the traditional hero archetype.
To relate to society throughout the twentieth and twenty first centuries, television shows and film have
had to conform to new standards. In the beginning, any film was

James Joyce s A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man
The popularity of the coming of age novel in the Twentieth and the Twenty First Centuries reveals a
deepening understanding of the impact of childhood and adolescent experiences in the long term
development of adulthood. Such is the case of James Joyce s A portrait of the Artist as a Young Man,
which explores the lasting impact of Steven Dedalus boyhood and teenage years on his destiny as an
artist. The majority of the novel centres on these early years and draws upon the conventions of the
Bildungsroman. The narrative largely is driven by impressionistic and sensory language which
initially focuses on Steven s encounters with the world but eventually turns inwards to focus on his
emotional development and understanding of himself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore Joyce s purpose is further revealed through his protagonist s view of the artist. Steven
expresses the view of the role of the artist as an individual who chooses to isolate themselves; through
the strict focalisation and the stream of consciousness the reader is able to experience Steven s
isolation and the development of his artistic expression (Belanger xxiv). However, as a result of this
isolation we are given limited insight into the way Steven is perceived by others. One of the only
descriptions given is from his rival at Belvedere, Heron. He says, Dedalus is model youth. He doesn t
smoke and doesn t go to bazaars and he doesn t flirt and he doesn t damn anything and damn all.
(Joyce 57). The repetition of doesn t implies that Steven is reluctant to participate in the world around
him, that in fact he does isolate himself from others and to an extent becomes an observer of life.
Ultimately, Joyce does not prioritise the perception of Steven by others, choosing to focus on Steven s
perception of himself.
The novel opens with the story of the baby tuckoo, which Steven realises is him, He was baby tuckoo.
The moocow came down the road where Betty Byrne lived (Joyce 3). This short tale becomes a
microcosm the entire novel and sets the tone for a narrative of self discovery and realisation (Belanger
ix). Following

and maintained in at least two Gothic horror stories? The genre of Gothic Horror was developed
during 19th and early 20th century and had a popular appeal to the new middle class people who
sought entertainment. Gothic Horror has common characteristics of suspense, fear and would often

modernity was concerned with replacing belief in magic and ghosts with scientific knowledge.

  • 3. I Stand Here Ironing, By Tillie Olsen And Everyday Use By... The two short stories, I Stand Here Ironing by Tillie Olsen and Everyday Use by Alice Walker shows two mothers being concerned about one of their daughter and question how their daughters have turned out to be. The authors show this by using multiple symbols to convey the families relationship. By this, the authors use the iron, quilt, and clock all to connect how each symbol shows a significant meaning in the family. In I Stand Here Ironing, Olsen conveys the symbolic meaning of an iron, which connects to Walker s symbolism for the quilt in Everyday Use. Both these objects are ironically associated with a mother in general. Furthermore, in these short stories, Olsen represents the iron as a mother s ability to smooth out the wrinkles in her daughter s life. By this, the mother states, I stand here ironing, and what you asked me moves tormented back and forth with the iron . In other words, she throws all her painful emotions and guilty of not being a mother to her daughter Emily into the iron. In addition, the iron tries to destroy these emotions that are a representation as wrinkles . Also, as the narrator is ironing back and forth, the action is used as a flashback as where she went wrong in raising Emily. Similarly, Walker shows how ironically a quilt is like a mother, in where both share a legacy and are also used for comfort. In this short story, a mother tries to reconnect with her daughter through their heritage, but later realizes that she cannot give ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This phenomenon known as overpopulation has been called a threat to humanity, and people all across the world are affected by it. There is inadequate housing to shelter the population, not enough resources for the population to continually utilize, pollution, habitat loss, and much more. Politicians and scientists alike are striving to solve this problem.: In evaluating the global issue of overpopulation, one can determine the solution to it through limiting children by creating a law, implementing the policy, and appropriately enforcing the limit. There should be worldwide taxes imposed on items such as diapers and baby wipes in rich countries, and the money collected from the taxes will be wired to the UN and WHO. Anyway, there is evidence that a limit like this works. The birth rate in China has fallen since 1979, and the rate of population growth is now 0.7 per cent. ( Managing Population Change ). That is a great statistic considering that it was 1.9 percent in 1950. On the other hand, the limit should be set to two or three for poor, underpopulated countries because decreasing an overpopulated nation s population would cripple it financially and socially. Creating a childbirth limit similar to that of China and revising it is the first step to controlling the population. After a plan is engendered, it must be implemented worldwide. The UN will make it an international law that is imperative and obligatory to follow, and each nation s government will do their part in imposing it upon their citizens. The UN will observe each nation s population and then implement a limit that is reasonable with the population, so that poor, underpopulated countries will not be destroyed, but one with gargantuan populations will have a logical limit set. Every nation with over two hundred fifty million people or one hundred fifty million people and an annual population increase of 1.5 percent or more will need to implement a one child policy. Therefore, it would be imperative to look at the influences of these factors on the English language. The English language of today reflects many centuries of development (Naomi 24). The political and social events that have in the course of English history so profoundly affected the English people in their national life have generally had a recognizable effect on their language. The Christianizing of Britain brought England into contact with Latin civilization and made significant additions to our vocabulary. The Scandinavian invasions resulted in a considerable mixture of the two races and their languages. The Norman Conquest made English for two centuries the language mainly of the lower classes, while the nobles and those associated with them used French on almost all occasions (Baugh 2). And when English once more regained supremacy as the language of all elements of the population, it greatly changed in both form and vocabulary from what it had been in the 11th century. ... • 11. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Deficit Spending Deficit Spending and the Crowding Out Effect Andrew L. Petereck American Public University System Abstract Deficit spending applies to businesses, governments, and individuals alike. In relation to governments, deficit spending refers to spending more money than taking in over a given period (Investopedia, n.d.). Some Keynesian economists argue that deficits are a necessary evil needed to stimulate an economy. In theory, the deficit spending fills a gap in consumer spending during a recession by increasing government purchases to balance out the aggregate demand and stabilize the unemployment rate (Investopedia, n.d.). However, the downsides to deficit spending include possibly lowering GDP and increasing debt. Lastly, crowding out is known as the process where high government spending takes opportunities away from private sectors, hence the name crowding out (Investopedia, n.d.). This paper will explain some of the advantages and disadvantages to deficit spending while reviewing some of the effects of crowding out in an economy. Keywords: deficit spending, crowding out, Deficit Spending and the Crowding Out Effect The debate over the effectiveness of deficit spending has been ongoing for years and will continue to be debated for years to come. If band was present in both conditions, it was noted what condition had and increase or if they were equal. Discussion I studied the expression of V. parahaemolyticus expression of OM protein when grown in a high and low salt condition. I hypothesized that V. parahaemolyticus would increase the expression of OM proteins in a high salt condition and lower the expression of OM proteins in a low salt condition. As shown in the results section, V. parahaemolyticus expressed more proteins when it was grown in the high salt environment, thus my hypothesis was supported. People all over this vast city depend on this multicultural transit system, whether they are old, young, rich, or poor. Nevertheless, riding the bus in Las Vegas is not only dangerous, it is time consuming, on top of being a filthy place to expose oneself to. The bus in this city is alarming to ride in many areas of the town as passengers make their way from point A to point B. • 14. Swot Analysis Of Netflix Due to the company s high dependence on the cost of content licensing and relationships with content providers, the company is vulnerable at many levels. Netflix suffers low profit margins due to the cost of international expansion and currency fluctuations. Netflix faces tough competition with companies that broadcast live, unique and free content through torrents and cable television. Unlike its competitors Hulu and Amazon, Netflix does not generate income through advertisements. At an international level, the dependence on laws and regulations of different countries is an obstacle to the company s potential growth. Netflix s high dependence on internet connectivity makes it difficult to gain popularity in many parts of Asia and Africa, where internet connectivity is not well established. Domestic providers tend to produce or broadcast series that are designed to match the customer s needs. This can be challenging for Netflix to match. Its dependence on the regulations and laws of different countries is a hinderance to Netflix s international expansion. Essay on Krishna s World View Duncan Guarino James Joiner PHI150 Mar 26, 2013 Krishna s World View The Bhagavad Gita uses the conversation between Pandava Prince Arjuna and his guide Lord Krishna to portray Hinduism world view and Krishna s view on the different fundamental questions. When he s facing a war, Arjuna is guided by Krishna to be a selfless leader, and dedication to the cause. Origin, this fundamental question focuses on why is there something rather than nothing. You cannot make out what exists in it, yet it is there. It is this very fineness which ensouls this entire world, it is the true one, it is the soul. and Everything that exists has its self in that subtle essence. (1.4 1 7) * Krishna pointed out in Bahagavad Gita that the impermanent has no reality , that the spirit was not born; it will never die and thus, the spirit kills not, not it will be killed. (2.16) in the same section, he also described the ones who thinks a spirit kills and the ones who think a spirit can be killed, are both ignorant. The spirit then in Krishna s view, is immortal and everlasting. * As the prince asked Lord Krishna on whether he should kill for the war, Krishna used the arguments above and more to show that there would be transcendence and so on, and when a person is killed , his or her spirit would just throws away its worn out body and enters a new one. Krishna also addressed the issue of the attachment over reality. * Krishna pointed out that most people are afraid of death, and that the ignorance described previously is what preventing them from achieving immortality. Only those who have realized that the impermanent has no reality and the reality lies in the eternal; and have seen the boundary between these two would have attained the end of all knowledge. The short story by Ms. Morrison Recitatif , written in 1983. She has turned into the voice for the Black American experience. Recitatif is the narrative of two ladies one dark and one white. INTRODUCTION Through the ages, economists worldwide have developed different measurements, statistics and standards in order to have an anchor number on how to rate whether they be the development, their perceived inequality among other variables within a country. Because of this, and on the endeavour to unify the measurement of the current situation of a country, the United Nations via the United Nations Development Program in 1990 developed and first published their Annual Human Development Report featuring for the very first time in history the Human Development Index (Stanton, 2007). Naturally the UN has addressed these claims and has improved the index within the years, but there is always space for improvement. The HDI had withstood several critics regarding the poor quality of the data used in the calculations, regarding the selection of indicators and even on the calculations and the formulation itself; nevertheless, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) rebutted some of those claims and used others to improve the HDI calculations. (Stanton, 2007). The HDI, with or without flaws, has up to some extent shaped the way we assess and compare countries. Thanks to the HDI, the development is implied when talking about wellbeing instead of only looking at raw numerical information. Hopefully in the future, the Index shall be improved even more, to finally have a definitive Index on development worldwide. In the year 2000, the UN established eight international development goals regarding: poverty, education, gender equality, child mortality, maternal health, HIV and other diseases, environmental sustainability and global partnership. His goal was to appeal to the middle class people of that time and persuade them to get on board with the abolitionist movement. Douglass had a great writing style that was descriptive as well as convincing. He stayed away from the horrific details of the time, which helped him grasp the attention of the women who in turn would convince their husbands to help by donating money and eventually ending slavery. This meant that these bastard children were slaves despite their paternal heritage because their mother was a slave. The effect of this revelation was to shock and offend the morals of the conservative Northern whites. Northern society scorned people in adulterous and interracial relationships. By portraying these Southerners as immoral and adulterous, Douglass wanted to cultivate in his audience a damaging opinion of southern slaveholders (Quarles ix). Continuing with the theme of family values, Douglass shifts to the basic family unit. Their master separated Douglass and his mother when he was an infant, for what reason he does not know (Douglass 2). No one gave Douglass an explanation because this situation was customary on plantations. Douglass wanted to horrify his Northern white readers by informing them that slaveholders regularly split slave families for no apparent reason. This obviously would upset Northerners because the family unit was the foundation for their close knit communities. Multiple generations and extended families lived together or near each other. It was unimaginable to the readers that a society existed that took children away from their mothers without reason. Northerners would think of anyone who was part of such a society as a heartless monster (Quarles ix). Thus, visual perception impairments or disorders typically refer to the inability to make sense of information received through sight (the eyes) (Weiten, 1998). One such visual perception disorder is visual agnosia. • 29. Violence On The Rise Of Contemporary Society Violence on the Rise Contemporary society has evolved around materialism due to an incessant rise of scientific and technological innovations. While some may argue man is living in the most peaceful era in American history, the incline of man s tendency to value material possessions above spiritualism has effectively caused an erosion of general morality, a revision of social normalization, and an increase in violent actions. Children are the leading advocates in this societal evolution. Patently, their breeding is exposed to more distinguished violent content in films and in video games. Equally, a fixation on their cellular device and its uncensored social media have become the sources of man s elevating violence. Certainly the upbringing of twenty first century children does not emulate the upbringing of twentieth century children. Culture s newfound embracement of technology has left violent material predisposed to the underdeveloped brain of a child. Movies and video games labeled as PG 13 now are beginning to resemble the content of rated R movies in a previous generation. Much of the violence is cartoonishly sterilized and bloodless to ensure a rating that attracts the youthful population (Bozdech). Surely, children are viewing irresponsible projections of conflicts that undermine the austerity and ramifications of sincere violence. They grow to become desensitized by violence, understanding it to be an ordinary occurrence and often the solution to a problem. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Prevalence Of The Anti-Hero Archetype In Modern Society The Prevalence of the Anti Hero Archetype in Modern Society The hero archetype has prevailed throughout literature and media for thousands of years. This quixotic character completes a quest or expedition with little to no faults. In recent times, the ideal hero archetype is challenged by the untoward anti hero archetype. Today, the anti hero is largely represented and featured in recent film and society. The hero archetype is losing prevalence in modern fiction stories due to the increasing demand of the anti hero. The original hero archetype greatly contrasts the modern anti hero archetype. A hero is someone who displays little to no flaws and is widely liked by the majority. This character presents its storyline with exceptional traits. The anti hero archetype is completely opposite of the hero archetype. Unlike the traditional hero who is morally upright and steadfast, the anti hero usually has a flawed moral character (Michael). Modern anti heroes lack in grace, power, and social success (Neimneh). They deal with issues and insecurities such as alcoholism and infidelity (Michael). Anti heroes make unpleasant moral compromises, in contrast to the desired, in order to reach something. They want to create order where it is impossible and put the protagonist to justice . Traditional hero characters often succeed when trying to complete their quests, which contrasts the extremely grimm success rate of anti hero victory. Anti heroes also do not let their inner thoughts influence their actions while original or traditional heroes seek self definition (Teleky).
