Slimline: Marching to a Different Drummer
April 21st, 2014
Case Summary: Globalization means different things to different people, so therefore individuals have
their own standpoints regarding various things. In this case, an issue that has arisen is the allegation of
mistreatment of employees in developing countries. Slimline is an apparel manufacturer in Sri Lanka,
which does business disparately. The company employs 5000+ employees, whom help produced $50
million worth of apparel annually. In this company, the entry level wages are set higher than the local
markets and to mention that some of their employees have undergraduate and graduate degrees.
Slimline does not have the typical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2. Each company has chosen to participate in the joint venture rather than operate its own wholly
owned subsidiary because each joint venture partner in Slimline benefits from the others unique
knowledge and expertise. Mast industries provides a vast network of clientele, Courtaulds provides
great production power due to it being the largest apparel manufacturer in the UK, and MAS provides
Slimline with the world s first carbon neutral textile facility. Each partner brings something to the
table that the others cannot, which is why they chose to participate in the joint venture.
3. From the perspective of each of the partners, there are potential pitfalls to joining this joint venture.
Each company is grouped with two other partners, which is risky because there are greater liabilities.
If one of the partner s reputations suffers, as a result, all of the partner s reputations under Slimline
will as well suffer. They need to work as a team and continue to do what they are doing in order to
continue growing. They all have things that benefit each one, so yes there are pitfalls because without
all of the initial members of this joint venture, Slimline could face some serious issues and could have

Mechanical building plan change incorporates client, site and critical change. Plan changes that
advance by the client ought to convey and affirm the practicality with configuration. As indicated by
the strict variety system, this just can be finished under the reason of common assent. For the scene
change requires the gatherings to authorize agents with expert foundation and learning, who ought to

The Story of Vlad the Impaler s Life
Are you a fan of Vampires or Dracula? I am so I did some research on them, that, and I was told to.
My essay is over the very first vampire Vlad Dracula or more commonly today Vlad the Impaler. Yes
this is going to take a while so hold tight. Vlad was born in Transylvania a very long time ago. He was
a prince of Wallachia for many, many years. He was well known for what he did to the enemy during
the battles he fought in. Vlad was a highly feared person. He was the over taker of many lands, and
villages. Vlad Dracula was a dastardly man who in this seriously long essay I will explain everything I
have the knowledge of. Let s Begin. Vlad Dracula was born to Vlad Dracul and his mother was a
beautiful young Moldavian princess, her name was lost in history. He was born in the year 1431 in the
country of Sighisoara, Transylvania. He was born a prince for his father was from a family of princes
in Wallachia (Goldberg Itzkowitz pg. 18), and of course his mother being a princess helped. His name
Dracula means little dragon, or little devil . His father was a knight of Emperor Sigismund. Vlad lived
near the front line of defense for this reason alone. When Vlad was about either 12 or 13 he and his
brother Radu were traded to the Turks by their father as hostages as to keep the treaty of peace
between the two countries from ever being broken. While they were hostages the Turks taught them
science and mathematics, and by the end of the four years they were

Materialism In Death Of A Salesman
With the end of World War II, a duration of economic recovery would come to the United States. This
recovery period would mark an era in which the opinions and popularity of salesmen would rise. This
was an admirable position, after all, it helped contribute to the economic success of America. Being a
salesman was the optimal position to have in order to reach the ideal American Dream. This
perspective is the view that Willy Loman holds throughout Arthur Miller s play, Death of a Salesman.
However, it is clear to the viewers that Willy Loman does not fit in with the business world. As Willy
strives to become a successful salesman, it becomes apparent that the goals he has in mind are out of
his reach. Through the material possessions in Death of a Salesman, Arthur Miller uses symbolism to
show Willy s disillusionment with the American Dream and how it ultimately leads to his downfall in
a capitalist society.
A large number of the problems that Willy faces in Death of a Salesman come from his false ideas of
what success looks like. The United States during the post World War Two era fostered the idea that
success is defined by wealth. Through this period of economic recovery, everyone was swept up in the
appeals of materialism. As a result, everyone who was not excelling financially became an outsider
and jobs that did not directly contribute to the growing economy were looked down upon. Willy s
ideas about success stem from many places but are personified in the character

Nuclear Proliferation In Canada
Given the progress of globalization, international security has become an entailment that all countries
must work on in order to guarantee the perennity of world peace. However, this quietude is threatened
by the growing menace of nuclear proliferation. Canada, as a party to the Non Proliferation Treaty
(NPT) since 1969, leads anti proliferation campaigns to ensure global disarmament.
As a NNWS, Canada has conducted a national non proliferation and disarmament policy throughout
the 20th and 21st centuries. After ratifying the Convention on Nuclear Safety in 1994, Canada
published the Nuclear Safety Control Action (NSCA) in 1997, thus establishing the Canadian Nuclear
Safety Commission, which aims to monitor Canadian nuclear activity as well ... Show more content

Besides being a signatory to the NPT, it is party to the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) since
1998, and it takes part in numerous international coalitions that work on nuclear issues, such as the G7
bloc and the Nuclear Supply Group. Moreover, Canada has firmly supported the elaboration of a
Fissile Material Cut off Treaty (FMCT) conducive to the prohibition of fissile material for nuclear
weapons. It has also sustained the Statement of Interdiction Principles emanating from the
Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) in 2003. Subsequently to the events of 2006 and 2009 that led to
the adoption of the UNSCR 1718 and 1874, Canada has imposed economic and commercial sanctions
on the Democratic People s Republic of Korea. Those sanctions were reinforced after the DPRK s
2016 nuclear test, which Canada s Foreign Affairs minister Stéphane Dion has condemned, as a
violation to international agreements.
Canada strongly recommends enforcing the Non Proliferation Treaty as well as related treaties and
amending them to fit the rational requisites of hesitant non signatory states. Furthermore, Canada
believes that the negotiation and elaboration of the proposed FMCT agreement is necessary, as it
would restrain the spread of nuclear weapons. Canada also urges the International Community to
establish a coalition fit to mediate talks between the DPRK and concerned countries, in order to find a
solution that would be advantageous to all

Picasso And Pablo Picasso s The Old Guitarist
Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, it is our thoughts,
emotions, and a personal journal that occasionally comes easier way to communicate what s inside of
the mind. One of Pablo Picasso s most famous artworks and still known worldwide is The Old
Guitarist. Picasso painted this piece of art in the Blue Period that ran from 1901 04. This specific year
is important because the Blue Period of Picasso is when he started painting in the gloomy shades of
blue and blueish green inspired by Picasso s own emotional turmoil and financial struggle. I would say
it was the year where his emotions took over instead of his own hands, which drove him to the highest
limit of creating something impressive. Nonetheless, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

On top of that, Picasso had the downside of losing a faithful friend, Carlos Casagemas. The use of the

colors throughout the entire portraits except when he stirred and added a brown color to the guitar. The

Stop the Bullying
Stop The Bullying
Every day, on every playground and hallway in our American schools, children, youths, and teens are
harassed, tormented, made fun, physically and mentally abused and embarrassed by bullies. Is your
child one of these bullies or a victim of bullying? This bully behavior is not only happening in the
United States but all over the world. Many children and youths observe miserably as other school
children get bullied at school. Bullies usually pick on personalities and individuals who are weaker
than themselves, so they can build themselves to feel better about themselves. Sadly to say, many
individuals have witnessed bullying or been a bully themselves. As parents, school administrators and

In more recent national study, nearly 30% of students surveyed reported being involved in bullying in
the correct term as either an offender or a victim. This translates to 3,708,284 students reporting
bullying and 3,245,904 student reporting victimization (p. 101). The consequences of bullying are
reported as depression, headaches, stomach pain, low self esteem, sleep issues and increase risk of
suicide. Many children are afraid to go to school which can interfere with their daily lessons and
academic accomplishments Smokowski Kopasz (2005).
Evidence shows that school violence at Columbine High School in Colorado was related to bullying;
two students who had been bullied shot and killed twelve students, one teacher and wounded and
tormented many others. This massacre is based on a true story and its outcomes is a calling for
parents, law enforcements, school administrators, and psychologist to understand the warning signs
and need to establish no tolerance for bullying in schools through antibullying programs. These
warning signs that were ignored by teachers or missed can increase the risk of bullying, such as
teasing, name calling, physical bullying, threatening and can lead to potential suicide or other measure
by the victim. The authors Brown and Merritt (2002) stated, The teachers would see the outcast kids
being bullied and they would look the other way (p. 50). This statement supports why teachers must

The consumer isn t a moron. She is your wife. A strongly worded quote from David
Ogilvy highlights the importance of the relationship and connection necessary between and advertiser
and his or her consumer. Ogilvy, like many others, started from the bottom and worked tirelessly to
the top. Born in Oxford,
England on June 23, 1911, David would live the next twenty seven years in and around his hometown.
David studied at two different colleges and ended up graduating from neither Fettes College nor Christ

Not long into his career there did he realize the job description did not match his big ideas for what his
life was supposed to be like. David spoke the following words about his kitchen work: If I stayed at

Quitting this career opened the door for his big change in the advertising world. ( David Ogilvy

Ogilvy began selling stoves to everyone. Nothing out of the ordinary or overpriced expensive
appliances, but a simple generic cooking stove became David s first encounter with consumers face to

limited himself when the sale came down to a consumer. Whether the consumer was a religious

Hurricane Katrin Disaster Response And Recovery System
Hurricane Katrina has been noted as one of the costliest and deadliest natural disasters in US history.
This paper will exam the city of New Orleans and the preparation, response, and aftermath of
Hurricane Katrina. This catastrophic event shaped the US disaster response and recovery system.
The city of New Orleans is the most populated city in state of Louisiana. Due to the geographical
location, the city was at a significant risk for flooding. New Orleans was originally settled on the
natural levees, along the Mississippi River. The Flood Control Act of 1965, authorized the United
States Army Corps of Engineers to design and construct numerous flood control projects including the
Lake Pontchartrain and Vicinity, Louisiana Hurricane Protection Project in the New Orleans region of
south Louisiana ([PUBLIC LAW 89 298 OCT. 27, 19). Following the implementation of the act, the
US Army Corps of Engineers built floodwalls and man made levees to provide security against
flooding. In the subsequent aftermath of Katrina, studies have shown that the levees were improperly
built and flood water levels estimates were inaccurate during the initial planning phases and
development. As a result, when Hurricane Katrina made landfall on August, 29 2005 the storm caused
a breach in the levees which resulted in 80% of the city flooding. Over 20 feet of water covered
certain parts of the city and New Orleans was declared a disaster area that required extensive recovery
operations. operations.

Essay about Napoleon
During rough times in France in the late 1700 amp;#8217;s, an anarchy was being formed. A
revolution turned into civil war and the people were unhappy and needed a leader. At this time,
General Napoleon Bonaparte took an opportunity. Napoleon amp;#8217;s fame for winning battles in
the Middle East and Egypt and crushing royalist uprisings back at home allowed him to take over the
Directory with ease. Recognized for his great military skills and outstanding leadership, Napoleon
easily won over the hearts of the people. Napoleon amp;#8217;s first move was to obtain leadership.

amp;#8217;s main interests were focused on building an empire. After defeating Italy and Austria, and
persuading Russia to withdraw from the war, Napoleon named himself Emperor.
Though Napoleon was very successful on land and in battles, he also had many unsuccessful attempts.
Napoleon amp;#8217;s rage against Britain remained unsuccessful. He attempted many tactics against
the British army. At the Battle of Trafalgar, Napoleon amp;#8217;s loss was severe. The unexpected
raid of the British admiral Lord Nelson, forced Napoleon to lose. Soon after this loss, Napoleon
attempted to force Economic Blockades on Britain called the Continental System. He demanded that
his conquered countries not trade with Britain, and asked Russia and Prussia to participate. The British
counter to this move was to demand that any ship going to Europe, was to report in to Great Britain
first. After a while, the French Navy was not able to hold off the British navy and the Continental
System failed. The French Economy soon worsened and Napoleon continued to expand his empire.
Napoleon then made many more moves stirring up more trouble. He named his brothers kings in
conquered countries, and removed the Holy Roman Empire, setting up the Confederation of the Rhine.
This angered the Prussians, causing them to declare war. The Prussian uprisings were easily
conquered by the French. As Napoleon conquered

Methodology And Methods Of An Methodology
Methodology and methods
Methodology
The chosen methodology for this project is a case study. The term methodology is an overall approach
for a particular study (Sim and Wright, 2000). Case studies have been described as collecting small
qualitative data (Gerring, 2007) focused on narrow, in depth examinations of chosen topics (Savin
Baden and Major, 2012). This chosen methodology works well with my interpretivist paradigm
approach whereby I intend to explore the viewpoint of one participant (Baxter and Jack, 2008) and
depict the issues they encounter as a teacher. It is also beneficial to my project as it is a pilot study
therefore is on a small scale and likely to provide in depth data which could be applicable to others
(Merriam, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be able to explore different areas of inquiry and have valuable data from my interview I will need
to encourage my participant to talk freely and to feel relaxed when responding to my questions
(Clough and Nutbrown, 2007). By collecting this data this way I will be addressing my research
question (Sim and Wright, 2000).
As my research question is an exploratory one carrying out a semi structured interview is beneficial to
my work because I intend gain insight and understanding to the issues teachers face. However, an
issue with my chosen method is it will take place over the phone. This limits my data and I because
my participant may not feel comfortable opening up without face to face interaction. However this
may benefit my work as the phone can be a comfort for them.
Due to this project being a small scale pilot study, the paper requires only one example of a data
collection method. As a result of this I am limited as I only have the opportunity to interview my
participant once (Newbury, 2009). In spite of this, the loose structure of the interview can cover all
topics which are vital to my research (Bell,2010). I will also have the advantage of taking my time
during the interview. By carrying out a semi structured interview I can ask questions which I may not
have initially intended to ask. The conversation will not follow a strict structure nor time scale

One of the most important relationships that are suffering, is that between the parents and their

Such an understanding is critical given that a warm, loving relationship with parents, along with
experiencing effective parenting are key factors in both protecting adolescents from developing

Ultimately, parents need to be able to give the children the ...warm, loving relationship... (QTD in

Of Captain Misson And His Crew By Daniel Defoe Summary
Daniel Defoe has been acknowledged as the author of A General History Of The Pyrates , published in
1728, throughout the centuries of the early modern period. Being pursued as Captain Charles Johnson,
the author seemingly imitates a false characterization in order to portray a different perspective to the
commentary on the life of Of Captain Misson and His Crew . Defoe introduced this volume of fiction,
among many chapters, seeking the inequality and insincerity of the english society attributing to the
commission of piracy throughout the population. He familiarizes his passages in mostly, different
narratives as he describes a quite peculiar and distinctive acknowledgement implied to the proper
intentions of a well known captain pirate. On the contrary, most argued that piracy had different

Rediker agues that piracy lured certain economical crimes that brought the english civilization to a
disadvantage through the violation of respected authority. Over social relations and apprehensions, he
describes the act of piracy as a distress to the community since the piratical act appointed their crimes

custom issues during the act of piracy in the Early Modern Period.
Defoe introduces a particularly new statement according to the law of piracy during the 18th century.
Through the illustrations of Captain Charles Johnson, Captain Misson was emphasized throughout the

that pirates would assemble their own set of rules regarding booty and also contribute to the

What Is The Cognitive Dissonance In Augustine s Confessions
Frankly, I have never been familiar with Christianity and the idea of God has always been strange to
me because being a science nerd, I like to have concrete evidence and explanations. While reading
Augustine s Confessions, I did have an epiphany; I started thinking abstractly of God as essentially the
self rather than an actual literal higher being. Augustine utilizes the idea of God to deal with the
cognitive dissonance he experiences and so do some of us. Augustine begins Book I categorizing his
character, knowledge, belief, and body as a gift from God and seems like he is taught to appreciate the
gifts that God has given him. The appreciation he has when reflecting back on his early age is what I
feel like that most abstract concept

Research Paper
Chicago has a history steeped in growth of infrastructure, devastating natural disasters, and everything
in between. It first was settled in the late 1700 s and has been growing exponentially ever since. It s a
city of commerce and opportunity for many incoming immigrants and settlers to start a fresh life. This
place became one of the most desirable cities in America to live and became the new home for many
people from the south, including African Americans. Many European immigrants also tagged along
with these black people coming from the southern states and made Chicago very culturally diverse
over time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Negro residents were often molested by whites and some whites ended up even putting warning signs
in the neighborhoods with pictures of skulls, crossbones, and coffins. It was a long process for many
urban whites, European immigrants, and blacks to coexist. However, it was such a unique situation
that Chicago had never seen before, thus making this city one of the most fascinating and diverse
group of cultures in America. The state of Illinois has had some of the most recognized and respected
Democratic politicians in American history. In 1955, Richard J. Daley became mayor until his death in
1976. According to author Adam Cohen, he was the most powerful local politician America has ever
produced. Under his reign, the city s black population was reaching record levels, as trainloads of
blacks fled their hard lives in the rural south for the promise of a better life in northern cities. It was
pretty clear that Chicago under Daley became America s major northern rights battleground. At the
time of Daley s inauguration in 1955, Chicago was spiraling downward. According to Cohen, Chicago
s 1950 population of 3,620,962 turned out to be the high water mark meaning the city would steadily
lose inhabitants. Chicago was losing not only people, but jobs, to the rapidly growing Cook County
suburbs. Before Daley s time as mayor, the city lost 53,209 manufacturing jobs, while the rest of the

Charles Goodnight was one of the best known cattle ranchers in Texas history. His accomplishments

seven and ended up only having six years of formal schooling. Charles father died earlier on because

Drugs And Its Effects On America
Drugs are a major issue in America. They are imported from all around the world, but they are mostly
brought across the Mexican border. Even though they are a major concern, nobody is doing anything
about it. In the year 2015 nearly 47,000 have died from an overdose. Why is this epidemic of drugs
being flown into America being ignored? Is the election between Hilary and Trump for the presidency
a bigger picture than drugs and drug related crime? Will Trump s idea of building a wall actually help
decrease illegal immigration, and decrease the amount of narcotics brought into the U.S? Drugs
coming from Mexico have also been an issue and we have continuously reduced the amount of drugs
from being smuggled into the United states, but not all of them. Drugs are obviously a big issue in
America, even if it is being overlooked. Not only are the Drugs killing people but the fight over them
is also creating crime. People on the streets have been fighting over drugs for as long as they have
been here. They re not only fighting over the drugs but they re also killing for them. Why do we allow
for such damage to occur in the U.S. when it can be stopped? There is one solution for this drastic
issue, legalize the drugs. If a whole percentage is being controlled and distributed by the government,
people will not fight over them which will lead to lower rates of crime. Alternatively, a good way to
lower overdoses is to put a tax on them. Charge an extra tax, for example cigarettes, tax

sequelae of damage to it. The topic is based on my own experience. In 2010, I suffered a severe
laceration of my left arm near the wrist, which, fortunately, was able to be treated and partially
relatively quickly. This is part of the reason that I was medically retired from the Army in 2012, for

I suffered a laceration of my arm, which proceeded laterally from the medial aspect of my left wrist.
The laceration only reached about halfway across this site, but that was enough to cause major
physiopathology in my left hand (primarily). The laceration severed my left ulnar nerve, ulnar artery,
and palmar interossei. I immediately lost sensation in the region described above (pinky and medial
aspect of ring finger, as well as proximally down my entire hand). Table 14.4 in the textbook
illustrates exactly the region affected (McKinley, O Loughlin, Bidle 556). I completely lost motor
control of the affected region, as well. I received first aid, and eventually surgeons were able to repair
the nerve, ligate the artery ( to tie, as in ligament or ligature ; the artery could not be repaired), and
repair the palmar interossei. The reason that I still have a functioning left hand is that both the ulnar
and radial arteries supply blood to the hand. As the textbook describes (as if the authors are describing
my own situation), If the left ulnar artery were cut, the left hand and fingers could still receive blood
via the left radial artery, since both vessels contribute to the superficial and deep palmar arches

Comparing Plato, Descartes, And The Matrix
Plato, Descartes, and the Matrix
Latalvin Bullock
Liberty University
Is what I am seeing real or is it a figment of my imagination? Many people have found themselves
asking this question at some point in their life. This has been a subject that has been addressed by
many philosophers. In this paper the approach to this topic is centered on Plato s The Allegory of the
Cave and Descartes s Meditation I of The Things Which We May Doubt as compared to the movie
The Matrix. One of the most obvious similarities of the three passages is that they all call in to
question what reality is. In The Matrix reality is conceived through a computer. The computer
simulates the peoples perception of reality. They are not truly aware of their own reality because ...

But through their connection and manipulation of the computer they believe that what they are living
and seeing is real. When Neo agrees to take the red pill and follow Morpheus into the world of the
Matrix it disturbs him to see that people are living out a virtual reality that is not true reality. This calls
into question his own reality and was the life he was living real or imagined. Plato s Allegory of the
Cave also shows a distorted sense of reality. The prisoners believe that what they see through the
shadows is reality. Being tied by the fetters there is no way for them to see any other reality around
them. Based solely on what they see through the shadows are real to them. The shadows are an
artificial source of reality for the prisoners as the computer is an artificial source for those living in the
Matrix even though both the prisoners and those hooked to the computer feel that it is entirely real. In

they apply to the OSH program management. As read in the textbook by Manuele (2008 p. 86) and

what Manuele and his cohorts have to say. Most of my employers may spout off what they desire in
their safety program but don t have the least bit of concern to lead by example, much less show that
they are truly concerned about the safety program for their employees. They have shown blatant
disregard for their safety policies and practices to include their lack of flexing of authority to ensure
that a safety program is followed, for their lack of taking responsibility incorporating the safety
program into all aspects of the business and being accountable for their lack of actions. Needless to
say, the more I learn about how my past and present management is supposed to mold themselves, the
more focused I become to try to get them on the correct tangent. My current employer assumes no
responsibility of safety. He speaks of being safety conscience and this is pretty much the end of the

the largest in area of the five boroughs. Because of how energetic he was as a child, his parents sent
him to a military academy at the age of 13. He did well at the academy and has accomplished many
things by graduation. Afterwards, he entered Fordham University for two years before transferring to
the University of Pennsylvania, and graduated from there in 1968 with a degree in economics. Trump
married three times and has had five kids from his time being married. His current wife is Melania

Benefits of Triphasic Contraceptives

women with an effective and effortless means of contraception for 50 years [1]. Taken by 17% of all
women of reproductive age, they are amongst the most widely prescribed drugs in the U.K. today[2].

After reaching maturation, the follicle undergoes ovulation; an event stimulated by a surge in
luteinising hormone release from the anterior pituitary gland (orange line). The remnant follicle (now
termed the corpus luteum) secretes progesterone (red line), which maintains the endometrial lining
and causes it to enter the luteal phase. With triphasic COC s, three incremental doses (phases 1 3) of
progestogen (blue line) with (pink line)/without (dashed pink line) a phase 2 dose increase in
oestrogen are delivered over 21 days. This is followed by a 7 day placebo period, which induces
menstruation (placebo). Exogenous delivery of hormones in this way achieves contraception with
significantly lower doses of progestogen, whilst crudely mimicking endogenous increases in oestrogen
and progesterone. As such, it was hypothesised that the triphasic regimen would afford various
benefits over monophasic COC s. Contraceptive efficacy: The remarkable contraceptive efficacy of
COC s has been known for many years. Of the triphasic COC s currently available for prescription in
the U.K. (table. 1), TriNovum was found to have a pearl index[1] (PI) value of 1.0 in a large phase III

Chernobyl nuclear accident had higher costs than anyone could have ever imagined before this

Abolition
A Stronger Resistance The abolitionist movement in the United States sought to eradicate slavery
using a wide range of tactics and organizations. The antislavery movement mobilized many African
Americans and some whites who sought to end the institution of slavery. Although both black and
white abolitionists often worked together, the relationship between them was intricate. The struggle
for black abolitionists was much more personal because they wanted to end slavery and also wanted to
gain equal rights for blacks. However, many white abolitionists only sought to end slavery and did not
fight for equality for blacks. From these exceedingly contrasting perspectives and the continuation of
slavery, the sentiment of many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More militant tactics, such as uprising and revolts, were gaining support in the nineteenth century. Nat
Turner was a black abolitionist that supported the use of aggressive and forceful tactics. In 1831, in
Virginia, he led an insurrection and more than 55 white people were killed. It was very bloody and
violent and angered many whites from its brutality (Nash, 275). Yet, many blacks felt that the only
thing that would get a response was an uprising and taking drastic measures. In Christiana,
Pennsylvania, the Fugitive Slave Laws were passed. These laws stated that whites could recapture
their runaway slaves. Blacks were outraged by the passing of these laws and rioted in response to this
(Roots of Resistance). This demonstrated how blacks would react in manners that were more forceful
and these tactics were used by a number of other abolitionists, however, many still used different
approaches to battling slavery. Many abolitionists used writing to end slavery. In 1827, the first black
newspaper, Freedom s Journal, was created by Samuel Cornish and John Russwurm (Notes, 11/29/00).
This paper spread ideas of freedom and equality and gave hope to the black readers. David Walker, the
son of a free black mother and a slave father, pushed the abolitionist movement into militancy in 1829
when he published David Walker s Appeal. His work inspired blacks to organize and urged slaves to
rise up against their masters and take their freedom by force (Notes, 11/27/00).

Christianity s Influence On Sexuality And Gender
To conclude this course I have chosen to write my final research paper on Christianity s influence on
sexuality and gender. I will provide scholarly information and accounts for how Christianity has
shaped our sexual behaviour as well as differing roles for males and females. From past to present the
influence of Christianity has affected us worldwide; this paper presents real world examples of how
Christianity has come into play with our culture, and what we can learn by how it has affected people
s identities. My first source entitled Christianity and Sexuality in the Early Modern World: Regulating
Desire by Merry Wiesner Hank is useful for presenting an account of how sexuality and gender was
discussed in Christianity s New Testament bible. In the letters of Paul to Jesus, Paul warned against
those who opposed marriage, and also suggested that widows and widowers do not remarry. Along
with discussing acceptable and unacceptable sexual activities, the letters of Paul introduce a gendered
and sexualized metaphor for the Christian community: the bridge of Christ. Human marriage is
equated with the union between Christ and church; husbands are admonished to love their wives as
Christ loved the church; and wives to be subject to their husbands as the church is subject to Christ
(Ephesians 5:21 33) (Wiesner Hank, 27). This quote presented is very important it provides a clear
illustration of the difference in expectations from the different genders in marriage under the

The Great Depression Influenced Women s Fashion
Introduction:
Throughout the 1920s through the 1950s Women s clothing in America was affected by World War II,
which lead to the exploration of different styles, the encounter of new trends and the exchange of ideas
and new styles.
Historical Context:
In the 1920s there were many events that happened but one of the main events was the 1920s bathing
suit arrest. There were multiple arrest made for the look, but no names were giving. The rule for
bathing suits back then was that swim suits had to cover everything if you were a woman, men
however were not allowed to take off their shirts until 1993. The bathing suits for women were like
dresses and stockings. The 1920s also had some gender roles which caused companies grew larger and
wages increased and new things were able to be bought. ( Arrested for Bathing Suits ).
In the 1930s the Great Depression influenced women s fashion because they needed to save money
and they had to reuse a fair amount of materials from their old clothes. The 1930s also had gender
roles, most people were employed but they were not the best jobs. They had low paying jobs. The
women needed a full education while the men only graduated from elementary school. There were no
equal rights. Women did everything, for example, they did everything at home, they made dinner,
made sure the house was clean, they needed to look presentable after work for their husbands, and
they had to work at the house especially during the Great

Essay about Describing Dunkirk
Describing Dunkirk On the 20th May 1940the allied troops were trapped by the Germans on the
Northern coast of France. The allies consisted of the British Expeditionary Force (B.E.F), the Belgian
Army and the ten best divisions of the French Army. It was on this day that Churchill gave the
command for the evacuation to take place, to Britain by ship, following advice from Lord Gort (leader
of the B.E.F). Rommel was advancing from the north and Degaudier from the south trapping the
troops. The evacuation was organised by Admiral Ramsey and codenamed Operation Dynamo with
the main objective to rescue as much of the B.E.F as possible. This evacuation began on May 27th

An important factor in arguing Dunkirk as a defeat is that 68,111 men from the B.E.F were killed,
wounded or taken prisoner during the evacuation. The cost of replacing the B.E.F s equipment would
be astronomical for the government and for their part in the evacuation the Navy suffered 243 ships
sunken (including 6 important British destroyers with 19 left damaged) and the RAF lost 474 aircraft.
Source 3 supports the view of Dunkirk as a British military defeat. It is a photographic source showing
Dunkirk after the evacuation displaying a deserted beach littered with equipment, corpses and debris.

Being a salesman was the optimal position to have in order to reach the ideal American Dream. This perspective is the view that Willy Loman holds throughout Arthur Miller s play, Death of a Salesman. However, it is clear to the viewers that Willy Loman does not fit in with the business world. As Willy strives to become a successful salesman, it becomes apparent that the goals he has in mind are out of his reach. Through the material possessions in Death of a Salesman, Arthur Miller uses symbolism to show Willy s disillusionment with the American Dream and how it ultimately leads to his downfall in a capitalist society. A large number of the problems that Willy faces in Death of a Salesman come from his false ideas of what success looks like. The United States during the post World War Two era fostered the idea that success is defined by wealth. Through this period of economic recovery, everyone was swept up in the appeals of materialism. As a result, everyone who was not excelling financially became an outsider and jobs that did not directly contribute to the growing economy were looked down upon. • 16. Hurricane Katrin Disaster Response And Recovery System Hurricane Katrina has been noted as one of the costliest and deadliest natural disasters in US history. This paper will exam the city of New Orleans and the preparation, response, and aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. This catastrophic event shaped the US disaster response and recovery system. The city of New Orleans is the most populated city in state of Louisiana. Due to the geographical location, the city was at a significant risk for flooding. New Orleans was originally settled on the natural levees, along the Mississippi River. The Flood Control Act of 1965, authorized the United States Army Corps of Engineers to design and construct numerous flood control projects including the Lake Pontchartrain and Vicinity, Louisiana Hurricane Protection Project in the New Orleans region of south Louisiana ([PUBLIC LAW 89 298 OCT. 27, 19). Following the implementation of the act, the US Army Corps of Engineers built floodwalls and man made levees to provide security against flooding. In the subsequent aftermath of Katrina, studies have shown that the levees were improperly built and flood water levels estimates were inaccurate during the initial planning phases and development. As a result, when Hurricane Katrina made landfall on August, 29 2005 the storm caused a breach in the levees which resulted in 80% of the city flooding. Over 20 feet of water covered certain parts of the city and New Orleans was declared a disaster area that required extensive recovery operations. operations. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Drugs And Its Effects On America Drugs are a major issue in America. They are imported from all around the world, but they are mostly brought across the Mexican border. Even though they are a major concern, nobody is doing anything about it. In the year 2015 nearly 47,000 have died from an overdose. Why is this epidemic of drugs being flown into America being ignored? Is the election between Hilary and Trump for the presidency a bigger picture than drugs and drug related crime? Will Trump s idea of building a wall actually help decrease illegal immigration, and decrease the amount of narcotics brought into the U.S? Drugs coming from Mexico have also been an issue and we have continuously reduced the amount of drugs from being smuggled into the United states, but not all of them. Drugs are obviously a big issue in America, even if it is being overlooked. Not only are the Drugs killing people but the fight over them is also creating crime. People on the streets have been fighting over drugs for as long as they have been here. They re not only fighting over the drugs but they re also killing for them. Why do we allow for such damage to occur in the U.S. when it can be stopped? There is one solution for this drastic issue, legalize the drugs. If a whole percentage is being controlled and distributed by the government, people will not fight over them which will lead to lower rates of crime. Alternatively, a good way to lower overdoses is to put a tax on them. Charge an extra tax, for example cigarettes, tax ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Medical Experience Research Paper Gavin McDowell Amy Professor Swathi Seeke Human Anatomy Physiology I April 11, 2016 Medical Experience Sharing Paper Ulnar Nerve Trailer The medical experience topic I would like to explore and discuss is the ulnar nerve, a large and important nerve, and the anatomical and physiological sequelae of damage to it. The topic is based on my own experience. In 2010, I suffered a severe laceration of my left arm near the wrist, which, fortunately, was able to be treated and partially relatively quickly. This is part of the reason that I was medically retired from the Army in 2012, for combat related injuries. The ulnar artery of that arm and several interossial tendons were also severed. The artery was ligated (tied), and the nerve was repaired ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I suffered a laceration of my arm, which proceeded laterally from the medial aspect of my left wrist. The laceration only reached about halfway across this site, but that was enough to cause major physiopathology in my left hand (primarily). The laceration severed my left ulnar nerve, ulnar artery, and palmar interossei. I immediately lost sensation in the region described above (pinky and medial aspect of ring finger, as well as proximally down my entire hand). Table 14.4 in the textbook illustrates exactly the region affected (McKinley, O Loughlin, Bidle 556). I completely lost motor control of the affected region, as well. I received first aid, and eventually surgeons were able to repair the nerve, ligate the artery ( to tie, as in ligament or ligature ; the artery could not be repaired), and repair the palmar interossei. The reason that I still have a functioning left hand is that both the ulnar and radial arteries supply blood to the hand. As the textbook describes (as if the authors are describing my own situation), If the left ulnar artery were cut, the left hand and fingers could still receive blood via the left radial artery, since both vessels contribute to the superficial and deep palmar arches (McKinley, O Loughlin, Bidle ... Many people have found themselves asking this question at some point in their life. This has been a subject that has been addressed by many philosophers. In this paper the approach to this topic is centered on Plato s The Allegory of the Cave and Descartes s Meditation I of The Things Which We May Doubt as compared to the movie The Matrix. One of the most obvious similarities of the three passages is that they all call in to question what reality is. In The Matrix reality is conceived through a computer. The computer simulates the peoples perception of reality. They are not truly aware of their own reality because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But through their connection and manipulation of the computer they believe that what they are living and seeing is real. When Neo agrees to take the red pill and follow Morpheus into the world of the Matrix it disturbs him to see that people are living out a virtual reality that is not true reality. This calls into question his own reality and was the life he was living real or imagined. Plato s Allegory of the Cave also shows a distorted sense of reality. The prisoners believe that what they see through the shadows is reality. Being tied by the fetters there is no way for them to see any other reality around them. Based solely on what they see through the shadows are real to them. The shadows are an artificial source of reality for the prisoners as the computer is an artificial source for those living in the Matrix even though both the prisoners and those hooked to the computer feel that it is entirely real. Benefits of Triphasic Contraceptives The Benefits of Triphasic Contraceptives A review of the benefits of triphasic combined oral contraceptives when compared to today s low dose monophasic alternatives. Introduction: Since their introduction in 1961, oestrogen progestogen combined oral contraceptive (COC) pills have provided women with an effective and effortless means of contraception for 50 years [1]. Taken by 17% of all women of reproductive age, they are amongst the most widely prescribed drugs in the U.K. today[2]. Hitherto, earlier COC formulations have been associated with harmful dose dependent side effects [3]. After reaching maturation, the follicle undergoes ovulation; an event stimulated by a surge in luteinising hormone release from the anterior pituitary gland (orange line). The remnant follicle (now termed the corpus luteum) secretes progesterone (red line), which maintains the endometrial lining and causes it to enter the luteal phase. With triphasic COC s, three incremental doses (phases 1 3) of progestogen (blue line) with (pink line)/without (dashed pink line) a phase 2 dose increase in oestrogen are delivered over 21 days. This is followed by a 7 day placebo period, which induces menstruation (placebo). Exogenous delivery of hormones in this way achieves contraception with significantly lower doses of progestogen, whilst crudely mimicking endogenous increases in oestrogen and progesterone. As such, it was hypothesised that the triphasic regimen would afford various benefits over monophasic COC s. Contraceptive efficacy: The remarkable contraceptive efficacy of COC s has been known for many years. Of the triphasic COC s currently available for prescription in the U.K. (table. 1), TriNovum was found to have a pearl index[1] (PI) value of 1.0 in a large phase III trial (n=4000) and Logynon a PI value of 0.33 (n=3546) [11 12]. The antislavery movement mobilized many African Americans and some whites who sought to end the institution of slavery. Although both black and white abolitionists often worked together, the relationship between them was intricate. The struggle for black abolitionists was much more personal because they wanted to end slavery and also wanted to gain equal rights for blacks. More militant tactics, such as uprising and revolts, were gaining support in the nineteenth century. Nat Turner was a black abolitionist that supported the use of aggressive and forceful tactics. In 1831, in Virginia, he led an insurrection and more than 55 white people were killed. It was very bloody and violent and angered many whites from its brutality (Nash, 275). Yet, many blacks felt that the only thing that would get a response was an uprising and taking drastic measures. In Christiana, Pennsylvania, the Fugitive Slave Laws were passed. These laws stated that whites could recapture their runaway slaves. Blacks were outraged by the passing of these laws and rioted in response to this (Roots of Resistance). This demonstrated how blacks would react in manners that were more forceful and these tactics were used by a number of other abolitionists, however, many still used different approaches to battling slavery. Many abolitionists used writing to end slavery. In 1827, the first black newspaper, Freedom s Journal, was created by Samuel Cornish and John Russwurm (Notes, 11/29/00). This paper spread ideas of freedom and equality and gave hope to the black readers. David Walker, the son of a free black mother and a slave father, pushed the abolitionist movement into militancy in 1829 when he published David Walker s Appeal. His work inspired blacks to organize and urged slaves to rise up against their masters and take their freedom by force (Notes, 11/27/00). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Christianity s Influence On Sexuality And Gender To conclude this course I have chosen to write my final research paper on Christianity s influence on sexuality and gender. I will provide scholarly information and accounts for how Christianity has shaped our sexual behaviour as well as differing roles for males and females. From past to present the influence of Christianity has affected us worldwide; this paper presents real world examples of how Christianity has come into play with our culture, and what we can learn by how it has affected people s identities. My first source entitled Christianity and Sexuality in the Early Modern World: Regulating Desire by Merry Wiesner Hank is useful for presenting an account of how sexuality and gender was discussed in Christianity s New Testament bible. In the letters of Paul to Jesus, Paul warned against those who opposed marriage, and also suggested that widows and widowers do not remarry. Along with discussing acceptable and unacceptable sexual activities, the letters of Paul introduce a gendered and sexualized metaphor for the Christian community: the bridge of Christ. Human marriage is equated with the union between Christ and church; husbands are admonished to love their wives as Christ loved the church; and wives to be subject to their husbands as the church is subject to Christ (Ephesians 5:21 33) (Wiesner Hank, 27). This quote presented is very important it provides a clear illustration of the difference in expectations from the different genders in marriage under the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Great Depression Influenced Women s Fashion Introduction: Throughout the 1920s through the 1950s Women s clothing in America was affected by World War II, which lead to the exploration of different styles, the encounter of new trends and the exchange of ideas and new styles. Historical Context: In the 1920s there were many events that happened but one of the main events was the 1920s bathing suit arrest. There were multiple arrest made for the look, but no names were giving. The rule for bathing suits back then was that swim suits had to cover everything if you were a woman, men however were not allowed to take off their shirts until 1993. The bathing suits for women were like dresses and stockings. The 1920s also had some gender roles which caused companies grew larger and wages increased and new things were able to be bought. ( Arrested for Bathing Suits ). In the 1930s the Great Depression influenced women s fashion because they needed to save money and they had to reuse a fair amount of materials from their old clothes. The 1930s also had gender roles, most people were employed but they were not the best jobs. They had low paying jobs. The women needed a full education while the men only graduated from elementary school. There were no equal rights. The allies consisted of the British Expeditionary Force (B.E.F), the Belgian Army and the ten best divisions of the French Army. It was on this day that Churchill gave the command for the evacuation to take place, to Britain by ship, following advice from Lord Gort (leader of the B.E.F). Rommel was advancing from the north and Degaudier from the south trapping the troops. An important factor in arguing Dunkirk as a defeat is that 68,111 men from the B.E.F were killed, wounded or taken prisoner during the evacuation. The cost of replacing the B.E.F s equipment would be astronomical for the government and for their part in the evacuation the Navy suffered 243 ships sunken (including 6 important British destroyers with 19 left damaged) and the RAF lost 474 aircraft. Source 3 supports the view of Dunkirk as a British military defeat. It is a photographic source showing Dunkirk after the evacuation displaying a deserted beach littered with equipment, corpses and debris. Off the shore are broken half sunken ships with those that have become beached, one possibly a military boat and also many smaller vessels. The photograph of the dead soldiers shows military defeat as the objective was to rescue the B.E.F and would be very demoralising for the British public. The large boat could belong to the navy and would be very valuable, loss of this would be very expensive, along with the rest of the abandoned equipment. The source seems reliable as it is first hand primary evidence. It is useful for showing defeat as it displays what it looked like at Dunkirk after the evacuation.
