TENNIS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
MEN’S
Vasudev Vijayaraman, Midwestern State University, SR, Chennai, India, Chinmaya Vidyalaya HS
Vijayaraman led the Mustangs to a 3-0 record on the road last week, taking down St. Edward's (6-3), Arkansas-Fort
Smith (9-0) and 31st-ranked Southeastern Oklahoma State (5-1). Playing the No. 1 flight, the Chennai, India, native
knocked off three nationally ranked opponents to climb into the Oracle/ITA top-10 in singles. Vijayaraman downed SEU's
23rd-ranked Chase Bartlett, 6-4, 6-0 before besting UAFS' 59th-ranked Daniel Borrero, 6-2, 6-0. Rounding out the
weekend, the senior recorded his best win of the year, defeating SEOSU's 12th-ranked Carlos Anez, 6-3, 6-1. He and
partner Denney Norrie went 2-1 in doubles at the No. 2 flight.
WOMEN’S
Bianca Duff, Midwestern State University, SO, Geelong, Australia, Oberon HS
Duff led the Mustangs to four wins last week, going 4-0 in both singles and doubles playing the No. 2 line. MSU picked
up road wins against 20th-ranked St. Edward's (5-4), Arkansas-Fort Smith (8-1), Southeastern Oklahoma State (5-0) and
Tarleton State (7-2). In doubles, Duff and partner Greta Lazzarotto improved to 15-0 overall at the No. 2 flight and
helping MSU to a doubles sweep for the eighth-straight match. In singles, the native Australian clinched the team
victories against St. Edward's and Arkansas-Fort Smith. Duff began her week with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Laura Galvan
(SEU) before a 6-4, 6-3 win against Lindsey Pearce (UAFS). The sophomore continued her strong play with a decisive 6-0,
6-2 decision over Luisa Auffarth (SEOSU) and capped her perfect stretch with a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Neetika Sud
(TSU).

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Vladimir Gnilozubov, Western New Mexico, went 2-0 during the match against UT Permian Basin picking up a singles
win at No. 2 and a doubles win at No. 1. In his singles match, he fought off a tough challenge to win in an opening
tiebreaker, 7-6 and then rolled to a 6-2 win in the second set. He then teamed with Liam Fraboulet to tally an 8-3
victory.
Zo Gubbels, Angelo State University, was a perfect 4-0 last week as the Belles won their fourth and fifth straight
matches, including an upset of No. 17 Cameron. In the match against the Aggies, she and her partner Virginie Becht won
9-8 in a tiebreaker set. Gubbels then clinched the upset in singles play on court four. Going to a tiebreaker in the third
set, Gubbels earned the victory. The Netherlands native then won in both doubles and singles play on the road against
Western New Mexico as the Belles won that match 7-2. Overall, Gubbels has won 11 straight singles matches.
Sarah Frendo, Cameron University, went 2-0 in singles this past week and 1-1 in doubles. Playing in the No. 3 singles
position, she was one of two Aggies to win their match in CU's first Lone Star Conference match against Angelo State,
beating Yasmine Ansari 6-4, 6-0. Frendo then added another win to her record against Texas A&M-Kingsville, taking
down Laura Montalvo 6-3, 6-3. She also earned a win with her doubles partner Sara Petric at No. 2 against the Javelinas,
8-5. Frendo is now 8-5 in singles play on the year.
Alicia Barbaroux, Tarleton State University, pulled off the biggest upset of the day by defeating Maddy Coffman of
Midwestern State, the No. 27-ranked singles player in the nation, in a thrilling tiebreaker. Barbaroux won the first set 6-4
before Coffman answered with a 6-1 win in the second. The Tarleton sophomore rebounded and won the tiebreak 10-8
to take the national upset.
Klara Smolikova, Western New Mexico, is off to a strong start to the LSC season as she picked up a pair of singles
wins against both UT Permian Basin and Angelo State, while adding a doubles win against UTPB. To open the week,
Smolikova grabbed a 6-3, 6-1 win against the Falcons and then added a tough 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 win against the Belles with
both matches coming at the top flight. She then teamed with Jeanne Kolb to grab an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles against
UTPB. Smolikova went 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles for the week.

3. The Aggie women went 1-1 in their first two Lone Star Conference matches of the season, falling to Angelo State 5-4 and
then beating Texas A&M-Kingsville 5-4. Sarah Frendo went 2-0 in singles play, while the pairing of Zhenia Shviadok and
Mathilde Thibaudat went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles.
Midwestern State
Midwestern State went 4-0 on the women's side to move up to No. 18 in the Oracle/ITA rankings and No. 2 in the initial
South Central Region rankings. The Mustangs have swept doubles in all eighth of their matches on the eight-match
winning streak.
On the men's side, MSU went 3-0, capping a 10-match stretch on the road with an 8-2 record.
Tarleton State
Texas A&M-Kingsville
The Javelina women's tennis program dropped a hard-fought 5-4 match to No. 17 Cameron over the weekend that came
down to the final set of the final singles matchup. TAMUK and CU were locked in a 4-4 tie with the No. 2 singles matchup
of Phonephathep Philavong and Mathilde Thibaudat heading into the third set that was won by the Aggie.
UT Permian Basin
Both UT Permian Basin's men's and women's tennis teams went 2-0 on the week. The men started off the week with a
6-3 victory over Western New Mexico. UTPB was led in singles by going 5-1. They followed that victory with a 5-4 win
over New Mexico Military. The singles were strong again taking it 4-2.
The women's team started the week by defeating Western New Mexico 6-3. They went 4-2 in singles and 2-1 in doubles
for the victory. Against New Mexico Military they won 5-4. After splitting with singles, they took doubles 2-1 for the
team victory.
Western New Mexico
WNMU came close in both of their matches against UT Permian Basin as the Falcons held on to take both matches by a
score of 6-3. The women then played Angelo State tough in several singles matches before the Belles went on to take
the 7-2 win. Klara Smolikova had a strong week going 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles. Jeanne Kolb also added a singles
and doubles win. Vladimir Gnilozubov went 2-0 in the match against UTPB with a singles and doubles win.
