GOLFERS OF THE WEEK
MEN’S
Daniel Nielsen, Cameron University, JR, Korsor, Denmark, Slagelse Gymnasium
Nielsen had to low score for the Aggie men as they finished sixth at the Lubbock Chris an Invite this week. He
finished the 54-hole tournament with a 222, ba ling the high winds to card a 72 in round one, 77 in round two,
and 73 in round three. Nielsen paced Cameron, finishing ed for 10th a er shoo ng three under on the par-5
holes and recording 33 pars during the three round invite. This is his third top-15 finish of the 2016-17 season.
WOMEN’S
Emily Taylor, Texas A&M University-Commerce, SR, Howe, Texas, Howe HS
Taylor finished in the top 10 of the Lions’ home event at Tanglewood despite incredibly windy condi ons. She
shot 165 (85-80, +21) in a tournament that saw minimal rounds under 80.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Angel Aguirre, West Texas A&M University, paced the Buffs to a 10th-place finish at the Panther Invita onal
hosted by Florida Tech at Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla., this week. Aguirre finished ed for 20th to lead
the team as he finished 10-over with a 226 score on rounds of 77, 75 and 74. WT carded rounds of 317, 308
and 303 for a 928 score.
Wilfredo Sanchez, Texas A&M University-Commerce, finished 15th at the Arbor Hotels Classic thanks to a
great round on the second day. He shot 223 (75-77-71, +7). The Lions finished 13th.
Gonzalo Pan De Soraluce, Western New Mexico, helped pace the Mustangs to a second place finish at the
Bronco Invita onal as he ed with teammate Harry We on for third overall. Pan De Soraluce shot the same
score rounds of 70 for a 140, as his first round 70 was the best of any Mustang to start the tournament. He
added seven birdies along the way.
Ka e Johnston, Cameron University, helped lead the CU women to a fourth place finish at the Texas A&M-
Commerce Lion Invite, shoo ng a 169 and finishing ed for 19th in the individual standings. In a tournament
where scores were high all-around due to windy condi ons, Johnston improved from shoo ng an 87 in round
one, to an 82 in the final rounds. She led the team and was ed for third in the field with three birdies and shot
just 12 over on the par-4 holes.

The Aggie women finished in fourth at the Texas A&M-Commerce Invite, shoo ng a two round score of 680, 31
strokes back of the invite winner, St. Mary’s. A er shoo ng a 342 in a windy round one, the Aggies came back
to shot a 338 in the second round to record a 104 over par 36-hole score. Ka e Johnston led CU with a 169 and
a 19th place finish, while Allison Duffin and Bayleigh Johnson ed for 22nd with a pair of 170s.
The Cameron men’s golf team finished in sixth at the Lubbock Chris an Invite, recording a 54-hole score of 904.
On the first day, the Aggies shot a 303 in round one and a 299 in round two, and then came back on the next
day to shoot a 302 in the third and final round. Cameron finished 29 strokes back of the invite winner Wayland
Bap st. Daniel Nielsen led CU with a 10th place finish and a 222, while newcomer Niels Sorensen shot a 229
in his first Cameron event.

WOMEN - The Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s golf team improved by three strokes over Monday’s
round on the way to a seventh place finish at the Lion Invita onal at Tanglewood on Tuesday. The Lions shot 699
(351-348, +123) in their home event, which was a tournament full of high scores a er varying wind condi ons
over the course of the 36-hole event. The Lions are back on the links next Monday and Tuesday in Wichita Falls
at the Midwestern State Mustang Invita onal.
MEN - The Texas A&M University-Commerce men’s golf team shot its second-best round of the spring season
on Tuesday, moving up a spot to finish 13th in the Arbor Hotels Classic. The Lions were 51-over par at 915
(312-304-299) for the sixth-best round of the day in a highly compe ve field. A&M-Commerce is now off for
Spring Break before hos ng the Lion Men’s Invita onal at the Tanglewood Resort in Po sboro on the shores of
Lake Texoma on March 20-21.
