Existing ProductThey have put the social medias,
login and the shopping cart at
the very top of the page. This is
to advertise the medias so that
people can go have a look. These
skate brands like to get people
on their medias so they can
advertise their products through
good skateboarding. Also they
have the login because they
want to make people buy as
quick as they can and save their
details so they will buy more.
Because they have social medias
it shows what their target
audience is audience is around
12 – 21 as these are around
about the biggest age group that
use social medias. They also use
it to expose more of they
products to this audience.
They have combined the title/logo with the navigation bar. This is so
they can make it more simple for the audience. They have also
changed the colour to a bright colour so it stands out more. This
also links in with the audience as blue is more of a boys colour. This
suggests that their target audience is boys. They use this colour to
intrigue the target audience (teenage boys) to make them click on
the navigation bar and expose them to more of their products.
Here they have a gallery with a varied selection of images. Where
the big pictures are you can keep clicking to the right or the left.
However if you scroll down a bit there is a galley of ‘new arrivals’ .
This is to expose the audience to it faster. This company tries to
expose their audience to their products.
Existing Product
These skateboards all have a really bright colour,
which attracts the consumers. This skateboard
brand ‘polar’ has a specific style when it comes to
colour. They like to have bright colours as it looks
more attractive.
This brand is well known for the abstract
designs, they use the concept of skating in
these designs and add some abstract art that
has a lot of emotions. For example that pink
one is to do with love.
In these it is more like a picture stuck onto a
board. It is a good idea because the top and
will get scratched anyway. However their
other design works better because the whole
board is covered with designs with the pros
name underneath.
Here they put their logo on the
board so the consumers can see
what brand it is, but more
importantly it is for an every day
skater to advertise the board.
Existing Product
The way that they have layed this out is by putting the biggest picture at the top where there is
the most space. Followed by the logo and then some peaceful birds. They have then put designs
on each sides and then the front. It is pretty random how they have set out the t-shirt. This links
in with the fact that the artist of each design was M.C Escher. Escher was an artist well known
for abstract illusions his well known piece is ‘relativity’. They made the layout random so they
could express the art shown in the picture.
They only did 4 colours.
I think this is a great
colour scheme. This is
because their target
audience is boys and
girls. There is blue for
boys and pink for girls.
Black and white are just
the average colours.
All of the colours
contrast well with the
art on the tee shirts
This t shirt is really
complex and artsy.
Skaters are not
really known to be
interested in art and
its amazing to see
the biggest brand
make an artist
inspired t shirt
Existing Product
They have used a low quality camera to take
the photo. This is because in pre 1990 they
didn’t have the best cameras. Also the
standard for skate tricks is a lot lower back
then as this is when skating first came about.
The mast head is just simple with a
outline. This works well because it makes
it stand out a lot more and still stay in the
correct colour scheme.
The colour scheme is red and yellow. The skater
is also wearing red and yellow knee pads so he
will blend in with the masthead. They have
used red because red normally symbolizes
danger; skateboarding is a dangerous sport.
The skaters name is the sub heading so they can
give him credit. They also put the makers of the
magazine at the bottom. This is normally at the
back of the magazine. It is only at the front as in
1990s there was not software as easy to access as
photo shop.
Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products have?
– All of my products have chosen a good colour scheme, such as blue, black and white.
This suits each product because they are all kind of the same colour because their main
audience is more attracted to that colour. From looking at it their main audience is
males. Their main audience is males because it all of the colours are associated with
males.
– The middle two are really creative with art designs on, this works well with skating as it
is a creative sport/hobby.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your on work?
– I will use the idea of adding arty designs onto my product as I think it would good to my
audience. Even though the age range is teenagers and they are the least interested in art
think it would look good as it is different kind o art that the audience can respect.
– I will use the web site as inspiration for my designs as I think that they have done their
website really well. I will try and add some sort of main front cover gallery as it makes
the website look really slick.
– For my magazine I will also have a picture of a skate on the front cover as it shows the
audience what the magazine is about.
– I will also try and put the logo on my merchandise so I can get people to buy my
products because the logo is good.
Questionnaire Analysis
Audience research
• Observation: 14.29% are skaters and 85.71% are not skaters. This means that 14% are directly
identify as a skater and the other 85% are not directly skaters. However they could still know a bit
about skating, unfortunately I didn’t include a question with other options, I just put yes or no.
• What this says about my audience: It says that not all of them identify as a skaters so they might
not know a lot about the culture around skating.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will include some cool t-shirt designs that
appeal to the people who are not entirely interested in skating but are interested in the
fashion side of it.
Audience research
• Observation: 100% of my audience have owned a skateboard etc. This shows that they have
owned a skateboard but they still might not know a lot about the culture of it/interested in it.
• What this says about my audience: They know how hard it is to do some tricks so they will
have a lot more respect for the skaters.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: It wont really appeal to my audience, as they
have only owned one, but I will make cool looking products for them to buy it. Luckily I am not
making a skate video anymore so the people who do not like the sport wont have to sit through a
video.
Audience research
• Observation: 42.86% said they are interested but 57.1% said that they are not. Just under half of my
audience is interested in this type of sport. I could have been more precise and asked if they are interested
in skating.
• What this says about my audience: It says that most of the audience are not interested in this kind of
sports. However they could be interested the cool ways of advertisement, where I would use some good
designs to win them over.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will make it appeal to my audience by using god
designs that link in with the skate culture so both yes and no categories can be happy.
Audience research
• Observation: Most people think that the sport is good or even if they don’t are not actually a part
in the sport and don’t skate they still think that it looks good.
• What this says about my audience: It shows that my audience are actually interested in
the sport, even though they are not actually taking part in this kind of sports.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: It will be alright as if I make a good design to
get them motivated into getting into to this kind of sport. I am making a magazine so if I can make a
good front cover they can buy the magazine and start to take more of an interest to the point of
starting to skate.
Audience research
• Observation: 71.43% said yes and 28.57 said no. More than half have a skate park near them, I should
have asked if they have ever been / taken an interest in the skate park to get more of a detailed answer.
• What this says about my audience: It says that they have a chance to ride a skateboard but they not
motivated enough to actually get out, buy a skateboard and skate.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will try use good media designs to try and persuade
them to buy a skateboard, so they can get out and skate. I will do this is to sell them cheap and reliable
skateboards that ‘beginners’ can use. This will then make them more interested in the skating culture
causing them to buy more merchandise / more advanced skateboards. Especially the ’belongers’ will buy
my product again.
Audience research
• Observation:
– Half of the people said that they like watching skate videos and half are not sure or don’t like watching them. The people who said that they
were not sure said that they are interested in the editing and the music. Also someone said that they like the videos but poor editing can let it
down a lot. Maybe I should have asked a question to do with editing.
• What this says about my audience:
– It says that not everyone is interested in skating and there are other areas I can cover that they would want to see. However most of my
audience like skate videos, if not they are interested in them and they can easily be swayed to like a skate video because of the good editing
and music.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
– I think it would appeal pretty well as most of them like skate videos and are interested in them. However I am debating on not doing a skate
video as I think making some merchandise would be a lot better as then they can buy them and they will be promoting the brand by just
wearing a good t shirt.
Audience research
• Observation:
– 85% would like to see brands logos on skate clothes and 15% said that they would like complex designs.
They would rather wear something simple, if it has a good logo, than a really complex design.
• What this says about my audience:
– It says that they would rather wear a t-shirts with a logo on to represent the brand. It says that most of my
audience are belongers and that they would be loyal to the brand.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
– I will make merchandise with logos on. I will make a conventional logo and have it on the left side of the
chest. I would also put it on the back as a big logo.
Audience research
• Observation:
– Most people say that they would just like an original website. However 1 or 2 say that they would like something different.
• What this says about my audience:
– It says that my audience likes things easy and accessible in the fastest way possible. You can tell that they like things quick and
easy in the design of the website because most of them say that they want a simple website.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
– I am going to make it original anyway I just wanted to see what everyone said. I am making it a traditional website. However I am
going to be doing it in a different style. I will add a gallery on the front page and have a symmetrical looking website. I will make
it look really modern.
Audience research
• Observation:
– Out of the 21 options that I presented to my audience there was 5 most popular options chosen which were
skateboard decks, t shirts and, hats being the top 3 picks and jackets and phone case’s being less popular.
• What this says about my audience:
– It says that they like the most conventional type of merchandise for a skate brand, such as t-shirts, skate
decks, and hats.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
– My top 3 picks where hats, t-shirts and a skateboard. So this will appeal well because it is their top picks. I
will also put the logo of my brand on my products.
Audience research
• Observation:
– 70% say that a complex skate logo would look the best. 15% said that they would rather see a plain logo, 15% said they would rather see a
simple graphic design and 0% said that they would rather see a cool looking font, obviously no-one would like that so it is out of the picture. A
plain looking logo and a simple graphic design are kind of the same thing and they both got 15%. So obviously they like they idea of a simple
design. However a complex graphic design got 70% so that is the most popular by 55%.
• What this says about my audience:
– It says they are really artistic and creative because they really want to see a really want to see a complex graphic design over a simple design.
Obviously my audience are achievers as they wanted to see a complex design. Achievers like to have
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
– I will not do a complex graphic design for my logo but I will do a complex graphic design for my merchandise. Most of the most popular skate
brands, do not have a complex logo but they have complex merchandise. I think this would be the best for my brand so they can wear
different variations of my logo, that has a complex design, but on my merchandise.
Interviews
Interview 1
• Why did you get involved with skateboarding?
– I used to ride other things at the skate park and then a couple of my friends
started to ride a skateboard so I started and I have been doing it ever since.
• Who inspired you and why?
– Paul Rodriquez played himself in a movie called ‘sweet dreams’ and he got
told he couldn’t do it but he still did. Also a skate video called ’pretty sweet’
showed me a lot about skating.
• What would be your favourite trick on a skate be magazine and why?
– I think some sort of grind would look really good because they are really hard
and complex to do.
• Do you like wearing skate merchandise when you skate and why?
– Yes. The clothes are really nice and they benefit my skating ability's in a good
way.
• What do you think is better, street or park?
– I think park is a lot better than street. However I ride more streets because I
find it easier to ride. Park is harder for me.
Interview 1
• Observation: Over time he got more passion for skateboarding.
• What this says about my audience:
– It says they are really passionate about the sport and
would like to improve in any way. Me bringing out
helpful merchandise will help him and hopefully more.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: it
will only appeal if I use famous faces to back up
my products. This would help because their idols
who they are passionate about will be using my
merchandise.
Interview 2
• Why did you get involved with skateboarding?
– Because I was an adventurous child and needed a hobby and
skateboarding was enjoyable.
• Who inspired you and why?
– I have been inspired to skate by Dylan Reider as I love his style and the
team he skated for.
• What would be your favourite trick on a skate be magazine and why?
– I would like to see a mad wallride or a hippie jump as they are
impressive.
• Do you like wearing skate merchandise when you skate and why?
– Yeah because I like to flex my garms when i’m at the skatepark
• What do you think is better, street or park?
– Street skating because its gangsta
Interview 2
• Observation:
– He is really passionate for skateboarding because he
was adventurous.
• What this says about my audience:
– It says that people like to show off the latest clothing
at the skatepark.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
– I will make some really cool designs so they can show
off the latest clothing.
Audience Profile
Category Demographic Content to appeal to this audience
Age Range
16 - 19 • I will use slang terms as this is common for
this age group.
• I will also try to used photos of this age
group in my final product.
• I will use bright colours.
• I could try to use street/graffiti designs.
Gender
Male • Skateboarding is more to do with boys as it
is all about getting hurt and adrenaline. It
just appeals more to men as girls don’t
really like this.
Psychographic
Belonger • Belongers stay loyal to a brand once they
like their products.
• They normally live in a city and skating is the
most common in cities.
• They like to have UK made products and my
products are UK made
Social Status
Lower/middle
class
• Street art on my products.
• Cheap products with a lot of offers.
Research Evaluation
Research Evaluation
• Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of
each method
– Product Research
• One strength for the product research was that I got the chance to see all the really good designs
that other people have done. It is good because I can try and adopt these ideas in my final product.
• Another strength is that I can see the flaws of existing products that and try to adapt them into my
own work.
• However a weakness would be that on the pre 1990 product it is a totally different style of product
that I am going to be doing. It was a bit of a waste of time and I could have been doing something
more productive.
– Questionnaires
• One strength was that I got to ask my audience questions on what they would like to see so I can
adapt on their thoughts.
• Another strength would be that you get a wide range of answers that vary and you can take a pick
of which would be best for the product.
• A weakness would be that some of my audience are a bit silly add silly answers that have noting to
do with the question I asked.
– Interviews
• I think the interviews where really good because I got to ask my audience questions face to face. This
means I got a lot more mature answers that were easy to adapt on because they were explained more.
• Another strength would be that you get to ask whoever you want this is good because there could be
someone in my target audience age range who doesn’t skate. So I get to ask a skateboarder on what
they want to see in my product.
• A weakness would be that you only get to ask a small amount of people. What if they small amount of
people want one thing and the rest want the other thing.
Research Evaluation
– What sort of a response did you get?
Most people were not interested in skating or anything like that. This was not
good as my brand was a skate brand and not everyone was interested. However I
did have some good responses when it came to clothing and merch. This was
good because the type of merchandise I has on the top of my list to do was
chosen by my audience.
– How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage
I distributed my survey by sending it to all of my classmate by email.
• This was good because I got to see what everyone got to think who were in
my class. Even though a lot of them were not skaters they still gave me useful
information.
• An disadvantage was that not everyone was a skater so they don’t really know
about the culture of skating.

2. fmp research

  • 2. Existing ProductThey have put the social medias, login and the shopping cart at the very top of the page. This is to advertise the medias so that people can go have a look. These skate brands like to get people on their medias so they can advertise their products through good skateboarding. Also they have the login because they want to make people buy as quick as they can and save their details so they will buy more. Because they have social medias it shows what their target audience is audience is around 12 – 21 as these are around about the biggest age group that use social medias. They also use it to expose more of they products to this audience. They have combined the title/logo with the navigation bar. This is so they can make it more simple for the audience. They have also changed the colour to a bright colour so it stands out more. This also links in with the audience as blue is more of a boys colour. This suggests that their target audience is boys. They use this colour to intrigue the target audience (teenage boys) to make them click on the navigation bar and expose them to more of their products. Here they have a gallery with a varied selection of images. Where the big pictures are you can keep clicking to the right or the left. However if you scroll down a bit there is a galley of ‘new arrivals’ . This is to expose the audience to it faster. This company tries to expose their audience to their products.
  • 3. Existing Product These skateboards all have a really bright colour, which attracts the consumers. This skateboard brand ‘polar’ has a specific style when it comes to colour. They like to have bright colours as it looks more attractive. This brand is well known for the abstract designs, they use the concept of skating in these designs and add some abstract art that has a lot of emotions. For example that pink one is to do with love. In these it is more like a picture stuck onto a board. It is a good idea because the top and will get scratched anyway. However their other design works better because the whole board is covered with designs with the pros name underneath. Here they put their logo on the board so the consumers can see what brand it is, but more importantly it is for an every day skater to advertise the board.
  • 4. Existing Product The way that they have layed this out is by putting the biggest picture at the top where there is the most space. Followed by the logo and then some peaceful birds. They have then put designs on each sides and then the front. It is pretty random how they have set out the t-shirt. This links in with the fact that the artist of each design was M.C Escher. Escher was an artist well known for abstract illusions his well known piece is ‘relativity’. They made the layout random so they could express the art shown in the picture. They only did 4 colours. I think this is a great colour scheme. This is because their target audience is boys and girls. There is blue for boys and pink for girls. Black and white are just the average colours. All of the colours contrast well with the art on the tee shirts This t shirt is really complex and artsy. Skaters are not really known to be interested in art and its amazing to see the biggest brand make an artist inspired t shirt
  • 5. Existing Product They have used a low quality camera to take the photo. This is because in pre 1990 they didn’t have the best cameras. Also the standard for skate tricks is a lot lower back then as this is when skating first came about. The mast head is just simple with a outline. This works well because it makes it stand out a lot more and still stay in the correct colour scheme. The colour scheme is red and yellow. The skater is also wearing red and yellow knee pads so he will blend in with the masthead. They have used red because red normally symbolizes danger; skateboarding is a dangerous sport. The skaters name is the sub heading so they can give him credit. They also put the makers of the magazine at the bottom. This is normally at the back of the magazine. It is only at the front as in 1990s there was not software as easy to access as photo shop.
  • 6. Research Analysis • What common features do the researched products have? – All of my products have chosen a good colour scheme, such as blue, black and white. This suits each product because they are all kind of the same colour because their main audience is more attracted to that colour. From looking at it their main audience is males. Their main audience is males because it all of the colours are associated with males. – The middle two are really creative with art designs on, this works well with skating as it is a creative sport/hobby. • What aspects of the research will you include within your on work? – I will use the idea of adding arty designs onto my product as I think it would good to my audience. Even though the age range is teenagers and they are the least interested in art think it would look good as it is different kind o art that the audience can respect. – I will use the web site as inspiration for my designs as I think that they have done their website really well. I will try and add some sort of main front cover gallery as it makes the website look really slick. – For my magazine I will also have a picture of a skate on the front cover as it shows the audience what the magazine is about. – I will also try and put the logo on my merchandise so I can get people to buy my products because the logo is good.
  • 8. Audience research • Observation: 14.29% are skaters and 85.71% are not skaters. This means that 14% are directly identify as a skater and the other 85% are not directly skaters. However they could still know a bit about skating, unfortunately I didn’t include a question with other options, I just put yes or no. • What this says about my audience: It says that not all of them identify as a skaters so they might not know a lot about the culture around skating. • How will your product appeal to this audience: I will include some cool t-shirt designs that appeal to the people who are not entirely interested in skating but are interested in the fashion side of it.
  • 9. Audience research • Observation: 100% of my audience have owned a skateboard etc. This shows that they have owned a skateboard but they still might not know a lot about the culture of it/interested in it. • What this says about my audience: They know how hard it is to do some tricks so they will have a lot more respect for the skaters. • How will your product appeal to this audience: It wont really appeal to my audience, as they have only owned one, but I will make cool looking products for them to buy it. Luckily I am not making a skate video anymore so the people who do not like the sport wont have to sit through a video.
  • 10. Audience research • Observation: 42.86% said they are interested but 57.1% said that they are not. Just under half of my audience is interested in this type of sport. I could have been more precise and asked if they are interested in skating. • What this says about my audience: It says that most of the audience are not interested in this kind of sports. However they could be interested the cool ways of advertisement, where I would use some good designs to win them over. • How will your product appeal to this audience: I will make it appeal to my audience by using god designs that link in with the skate culture so both yes and no categories can be happy.
  • 11. Audience research • Observation: Most people think that the sport is good or even if they don’t are not actually a part in the sport and don’t skate they still think that it looks good. • What this says about my audience: It shows that my audience are actually interested in the sport, even though they are not actually taking part in this kind of sports. • How will your product appeal to this audience: It will be alright as if I make a good design to get them motivated into getting into to this kind of sport. I am making a magazine so if I can make a good front cover they can buy the magazine and start to take more of an interest to the point of starting to skate.
  • 12. Audience research • Observation: 71.43% said yes and 28.57 said no. More than half have a skate park near them, I should have asked if they have ever been / taken an interest in the skate park to get more of a detailed answer. • What this says about my audience: It says that they have a chance to ride a skateboard but they not motivated enough to actually get out, buy a skateboard and skate. • How will your product appeal to this audience: I will try use good media designs to try and persuade them to buy a skateboard, so they can get out and skate. I will do this is to sell them cheap and reliable skateboards that ‘beginners’ can use. This will then make them more interested in the skating culture causing them to buy more merchandise / more advanced skateboards. Especially the ’belongers’ will buy my product again.
  • 13. Audience research • Observation: – Half of the people said that they like watching skate videos and half are not sure or don’t like watching them. The people who said that they were not sure said that they are interested in the editing and the music. Also someone said that they like the videos but poor editing can let it down a lot. Maybe I should have asked a question to do with editing. • What this says about my audience: – It says that not everyone is interested in skating and there are other areas I can cover that they would want to see. However most of my audience like skate videos, if not they are interested in them and they can easily be swayed to like a skate video because of the good editing and music. • How will your product appeal to this audience: – I think it would appeal pretty well as most of them like skate videos and are interested in them. However I am debating on not doing a skate video as I think making some merchandise would be a lot better as then they can buy them and they will be promoting the brand by just wearing a good t shirt.
  • 14. Audience research • Observation: – 85% would like to see brands logos on skate clothes and 15% said that they would like complex designs. They would rather wear something simple, if it has a good logo, than a really complex design. • What this says about my audience: – It says that they would rather wear a t-shirts with a logo on to represent the brand. It says that most of my audience are belongers and that they would be loyal to the brand. • How will your product appeal to this audience: – I will make merchandise with logos on. I will make a conventional logo and have it on the left side of the chest. I would also put it on the back as a big logo.
  • 15. Audience research • Observation: – Most people say that they would just like an original website. However 1 or 2 say that they would like something different. • What this says about my audience: – It says that my audience likes things easy and accessible in the fastest way possible. You can tell that they like things quick and easy in the design of the website because most of them say that they want a simple website. • How will your product appeal to this audience: – I am going to make it original anyway I just wanted to see what everyone said. I am making it a traditional website. However I am going to be doing it in a different style. I will add a gallery on the front page and have a symmetrical looking website. I will make it look really modern.
  • 16. Audience research • Observation: – Out of the 21 options that I presented to my audience there was 5 most popular options chosen which were skateboard decks, t shirts and, hats being the top 3 picks and jackets and phone case’s being less popular. • What this says about my audience: – It says that they like the most conventional type of merchandise for a skate brand, such as t-shirts, skate decks, and hats. • How will your product appeal to this audience: – My top 3 picks where hats, t-shirts and a skateboard. So this will appeal well because it is their top picks. I will also put the logo of my brand on my products.
  • 17. Audience research • Observation: – 70% say that a complex skate logo would look the best. 15% said that they would rather see a plain logo, 15% said they would rather see a simple graphic design and 0% said that they would rather see a cool looking font, obviously no-one would like that so it is out of the picture. A plain looking logo and a simple graphic design are kind of the same thing and they both got 15%. So obviously they like they idea of a simple design. However a complex graphic design got 70% so that is the most popular by 55%. • What this says about my audience: – It says they are really artistic and creative because they really want to see a really want to see a complex graphic design over a simple design. Obviously my audience are achievers as they wanted to see a complex design. Achievers like to have • How will your product appeal to this audience: – I will not do a complex graphic design for my logo but I will do a complex graphic design for my merchandise. Most of the most popular skate brands, do not have a complex logo but they have complex merchandise. I think this would be the best for my brand so they can wear different variations of my logo, that has a complex design, but on my merchandise.
  • 19. Interview 1 • Why did you get involved with skateboarding? – I used to ride other things at the skate park and then a couple of my friends started to ride a skateboard so I started and I have been doing it ever since. • Who inspired you and why? – Paul Rodriquez played himself in a movie called ‘sweet dreams’ and he got told he couldn’t do it but he still did. Also a skate video called ’pretty sweet’ showed me a lot about skating. • What would be your favourite trick on a skate be magazine and why? – I think some sort of grind would look really good because they are really hard and complex to do. • Do you like wearing skate merchandise when you skate and why? – Yes. The clothes are really nice and they benefit my skating ability's in a good way. • What do you think is better, street or park? – I think park is a lot better than street. However I ride more streets because I find it easier to ride. Park is harder for me.
  • 20. Interview 1 • Observation: Over time he got more passion for skateboarding. • What this says about my audience: – It says they are really passionate about the sport and would like to improve in any way. Me bringing out helpful merchandise will help him and hopefully more. • How will your product appeal to this audience: it will only appeal if I use famous faces to back up my products. This would help because their idols who they are passionate about will be using my merchandise.
  • 21. Interview 2 • Why did you get involved with skateboarding? – Because I was an adventurous child and needed a hobby and skateboarding was enjoyable. • Who inspired you and why? – I have been inspired to skate by Dylan Reider as I love his style and the team he skated for. • What would be your favourite trick on a skate be magazine and why? – I would like to see a mad wallride or a hippie jump as they are impressive. • Do you like wearing skate merchandise when you skate and why? – Yeah because I like to flex my garms when i’m at the skatepark • What do you think is better, street or park? – Street skating because its gangsta
  • 22. Interview 2 • Observation: – He is really passionate for skateboarding because he was adventurous. • What this says about my audience: – It says that people like to show off the latest clothing at the skatepark. • How will your product appeal to this audience: – I will make some really cool designs so they can show off the latest clothing.
  • 23. Audience Profile Category Demographic Content to appeal to this audience Age Range 16 - 19 • I will use slang terms as this is common for this age group. • I will also try to used photos of this age group in my final product. • I will use bright colours. • I could try to use street/graffiti designs. Gender Male • Skateboarding is more to do with boys as it is all about getting hurt and adrenaline. It just appeals more to men as girls don’t really like this. Psychographic Belonger • Belongers stay loyal to a brand once they like their products. • They normally live in a city and skating is the most common in cities. • They like to have UK made products and my products are UK made Social Status Lower/middle class • Street art on my products. • Cheap products with a lot of offers.
  • 25. Research Evaluation • Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each method – Product Research • One strength for the product research was that I got the chance to see all the really good designs that other people have done. It is good because I can try and adopt these ideas in my final product. • Another strength is that I can see the flaws of existing products that and try to adapt them into my own work. • However a weakness would be that on the pre 1990 product it is a totally different style of product that I am going to be doing. It was a bit of a waste of time and I could have been doing something more productive. – Questionnaires • One strength was that I got to ask my audience questions on what they would like to see so I can adapt on their thoughts. • Another strength would be that you get a wide range of answers that vary and you can take a pick of which would be best for the product. • A weakness would be that some of my audience are a bit silly add silly answers that have noting to do with the question I asked. – Interviews • I think the interviews where really good because I got to ask my audience questions face to face. This means I got a lot more mature answers that were easy to adapt on because they were explained more. • Another strength would be that you get to ask whoever you want this is good because there could be someone in my target audience age range who doesn’t skate. So I get to ask a skateboarder on what they want to see in my product. • A weakness would be that you only get to ask a small amount of people. What if they small amount of people want one thing and the rest want the other thing.
  • 26. Research Evaluation – What sort of a response did you get? Most people were not interested in skating or anything like that. This was not good as my brand was a skate brand and not everyone was interested. However I did have some good responses when it came to clothing and merch. This was good because the type of merchandise I has on the top of my list to do was chosen by my audience. – How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage I distributed my survey by sending it to all of my classmate by email. • This was good because I got to see what everyone got to think who were in my class. Even though a lot of them were not skaters they still gave me useful information. • An disadvantage was that not everyone was a skater so they don’t really know about the culture of skating.
