ISSUE NUMBER AND PRICE
The Slogan will be located at the top of the front
page. This is based on the fact that when the
audience look at a magazine, they immediately
tend to look at the top of the page near the title
and eventually progress by looking downwards. If
the Slogan is placed at the top of the page, it will
immediately be recognised and linked to the
theme of School life. As the magazine is aimed at
children of Primary Education, the slogan will be a
light-hearted one such as “Come out and play” as
Primary school isn’t a very serious part of
education due to less examinations and stress.
A competition will be presented on the front
page with an image of a Games Console
as children are well known for playing
console games. The fact that a Console will
be shown will likely attract Students in
purchasing the magazine as they likely
desire the chance to win a free gift.
Underneath the Main Image, there will be a
Main Cover Line because, the image itself
links to a large story inside the magazine,
hence why it is used to attract the
audiences’ attention when first witnessing
the front cover.
The reason for placing a Main Line Cover
underneath the image is to give small
amounts of information about the main
content in order to entice readers to
continue reading in order to find out more
information.
For the Masthead, I have used the word
“Playground” because children tend to
spend most of their free time in a
playground during breaks because they
have time to play with friends, particularly
as they don’t have many worries for
examinations or crucial deadlines for work.
The title also links specifically to a younger
audience because they are well known to
socialise and play in playgrounds.
The reason I decided to place Cover Lines
on the left and right sides of the page was
to occupy space on the page to make it
seem less plain. I also decided this
because, if Cover Lines point out a lot of
the content inside the magazine, the
likelihood that the audience will see
something of interest is high as the Cover
Lines link to any points that the audience
desire to read about. The Cover lines will
provide small statements which will likely
attract the audience with positive benefits,
such as: “How to get all As.”
The text of the Title is “Adobe Gothic Style”
because it loos very playful and links to a
clown-like presentation, especially based
on the colourful formatting which children
tend to enjoy.
Explanation for the image
For the image, I want the models to be of a young age such as
those from a Primary School in order to present who the
primary audience is. On the other hand, the Secondary
audience can be stakeholders such as parents of students,
governors, members of the PTA, etc. I want the models to be
Male and Female to attract both sexes rather than limit the
audience to one sex, nor waste time printing magazines with
content for both sexes if the audiences are misled (as they
think the magazine is solely for one sex).
Another reason why I want more than one model is to present
that school-life is also about having fun and forming new
friendships; the audience will immediately recognise
friendship, especially if the two models have close proximity to
present a close friendship. It also shows that both sexes can
get on with close friendships without the need for a
relationship.
Mise en Scene
Lighting- the lighting will be bright as though one on a summer’s day. This is because high-key lighting
relates to positivity and warmth, whereas the darkness from low- key lighting is a symbol of negativity and
coldness. The warmth represents the happiness/ warmth due to the models’ friendship and the brightness
represents that with education comes a positive life due to so many more opportunities. As you can see when
the Sun is out, it also suggests that the Students can see their futures being a good one.
Costume- the costume will be a conventional school uniform to relate closely to the theme of school-life. The
visual presentation of students which the audience can immediately recognise when viewing the front page
allows the audience to understand who the magazine is about instantly. The uniform will also be very neat to
emphasise the importance of presentation when trying to impress people such as teachers.
Setting- the setting will be based in a School environment in order to immediately identify where the students
are based in and emphasise to the audience who and what the magazine is based on (as schools
stereotypically link to children).
NVC- the children will stand closely together to present a close friendship to suggest that school-life produces
great relationships, especially when young. The models will be standing straight with a high posture as
though looking ready and attentive to information that they are being taught. They will also be smiling to
immediately present that school-life can be very positive as with the information found in the magazine which
isn’t all doom and gloom.
Props- On the front page, there will be a prop of a games console which is a prize in a competition which
buyers can choose to be part of. This will likely attract a greater audience as children will likely want to get a
new games console.

SUBJECT AND PAGE
For the contents page, the heading “Contents”
is in bold, in capitals and shadowed in order to
attract the attention of the viewer and make it
seem less plain because primary school children
are more likely going to admire something that
isn’t solely black and white but also creative
(which the shadow and large size
demonstrates).
The large text size was also used to attract the
attention of viewers and to stand out as a
heading which represents the information
below.
The smaller text below the heading was
deliberately formatted a smaller size I
comparison to the heading so that viewers can
interpret that the in order to
The coloured text stands out from the white
background, therefore, is easier to read visually.
The image boxes will be coloured and
shadowed in order to seem visually attractive
which suits children due to their creativity with
colourful things. As it is shadowed, it seems
3Dm therefore, even more realistic as though
the children can really touch it, therefore,
experience such imagination and visual
pleasure as it is so close to them based visually
and based on their attraction to this type of
magazine design. The images will also relate to
the contents, therefore, visually present what is
to be expected.
The face on the right of the page could be a
trademark which is a well recognised character
of the magazine as though a mascot. It also
makes the page seem more colourful and less
plain, therefore, will attract primary school
students to read on as they will feel that based
on the pictures shown with limited
(complicated) information/text, the magazine
will suit them (as primary students aren’t
mature to deal with large amounts of
complicated information).
The images and text will be slanted in an angle in order to
attract children due to their love for weird and out of the ordinary
shapes, colours and designs. The fact that they are not straight
signifies that the magazine isn’t normal, therefore, may suggest
that it is more creative than other magazines. If this idea is
introduced, the audience will continue reading as they don’t want
to continuously read repetitive versions which always follow
conventions.

The image (with the signature) has been formatted to make it seem as though a work of art, because. children are very well known for their creativity, therefore, if an
element of art is introduced, this may attract them to read the magazine as they enjoy observing such designs and colours that they can get inspired from. The image
of the models will be on the right half of the page to accompany the text so that the audience can visually interpret the information to understand easily.
The text seems very artistic to relate to the theme of art and creativity which children seem to love. The name “Da Vinci” is large and bold to emphasises how it stands out from the rest of
the text, similarly to how the artist’s art stood out for the world. “Da Vinci” is also around the model’s hair to signify that anyone can be an artist, even when young which could inspire
children to read the magazine and learn how to become so creative.

Alessio petulla` practice- magazine explanation

  • 1. Magazine Practice presentation By Alessio Petulla`
  • 2. Design and Layout PLAYGROUND Main Image Barcode SLOGAN Cover line Cover Line Cover Line Cover Line Main Line Cover Cover Line Cover Line WIN LOADS OF PRIZES ISSUE NUMBER AND PRICE The Slogan will be located at the top of the front page. This is based on the fact that when the audience look at a magazine, they immediately tend to look at the top of the page near the title and eventually progress by looking downwards. If the Slogan is placed at the top of the page, it will immediately be recognised and linked to the theme of School life. As the magazine is aimed at children of Primary Education, the slogan will be a light-hearted one such as “Come out and play” as Primary school isn’t a very serious part of education due to less examinations and stress. A competition will be presented on the front page with an image of a Games Console as children are well known for playing console games. The fact that a Console will be shown will likely attract Students in purchasing the magazine as they likely desire the chance to win a free gift. Underneath the Main Image, there will be a Main Cover Line because, the image itself links to a large story inside the magazine, hence why it is used to attract the audiences’ attention when first witnessing the front cover. The reason for placing a Main Line Cover underneath the image is to give small amounts of information about the main content in order to entice readers to continue reading in order to find out more information. For the Masthead, I have used the word “Playground” because children tend to spend most of their free time in a playground during breaks because they have time to play with friends, particularly as they don’t have many worries for examinations or crucial deadlines for work. The title also links specifically to a younger audience because they are well known to socialise and play in playgrounds. The reason I decided to place Cover Lines on the left and right sides of the page was to occupy space on the page to make it seem less plain. I also decided this because, if Cover Lines point out a lot of the content inside the magazine, the likelihood that the audience will see something of interest is high as the Cover Lines link to any points that the audience desire to read about. The Cover lines will provide small statements which will likely attract the audience with positive benefits, such as: “How to get all As.” The text of the Title is “Adobe Gothic Style” because it loos very playful and links to a clown-like presentation, especially based on the colourful formatting which children tend to enjoy.
  • 3. Explanation for the image For the image, I want the models to be of a young age such as those from a Primary School in order to present who the primary audience is. On the other hand, the Secondary audience can be stakeholders such as parents of students, governors, members of the PTA, etc. I want the models to be Male and Female to attract both sexes rather than limit the audience to one sex, nor waste time printing magazines with content for both sexes if the audiences are misled (as they think the magazine is solely for one sex). Another reason why I want more than one model is to present that school-life is also about having fun and forming new friendships; the audience will immediately recognise friendship, especially if the two models have close proximity to present a close friendship. It also shows that both sexes can get on with close friendships without the need for a relationship.
  • 4. Mise en Scene Lighting- the lighting will be bright as though one on a summer’s day. This is because high-key lighting relates to positivity and warmth, whereas the darkness from low- key lighting is a symbol of negativity and coldness. The warmth represents the happiness/ warmth due to the models’ friendship and the brightness represents that with education comes a positive life due to so many more opportunities. As you can see when the Sun is out, it also suggests that the Students can see their futures being a good one. Costume- the costume will be a conventional school uniform to relate closely to the theme of school-life. The visual presentation of students which the audience can immediately recognise when viewing the front page allows the audience to understand who the magazine is about instantly. The uniform will also be very neat to emphasise the importance of presentation when trying to impress people such as teachers. Setting- the setting will be based in a School environment in order to immediately identify where the students are based in and emphasise to the audience who and what the magazine is based on (as schools stereotypically link to children). NVC- the children will stand closely together to present a close friendship to suggest that school-life produces great relationships, especially when young. The models will be standing straight with a high posture as though looking ready and attentive to information that they are being taught. They will also be smiling to immediately present that school-life can be very positive as with the information found in the magazine which isn’t all doom and gloom. Props- On the front page, there will be a prop of a games console which is a prize in a competition which buyers can choose to be part of. This will likely attract a greater audience as children will likely want to get a new games console.
  • 5. Contents page CCOONNTTEENNTTSS SUBJECT AND PAGE SUBJECT AND PAGE SUBJECT AND PAGE SUBJECT AND PAGE SUBJECT AND PAGE SUBJECT AND PAGE SUBJECT AND PAGE For the contents page, the heading “Contents” is in bold, in capitals and shadowed in order to attract the attention of the viewer and make it seem less plain because primary school children are more likely going to admire something that isn’t solely black and white but also creative (which the shadow and large size demonstrates). The large text size was also used to attract the attention of viewers and to stand out as a heading which represents the information below. The smaller text below the heading was deliberately formatted a smaller size I comparison to the heading so that viewers can interpret that the in order to The coloured text stands out from the white background, therefore, is easier to read visually. The image boxes will be coloured and shadowed in order to seem visually attractive which suits children due to their creativity with colourful things. As it is shadowed, it seems 3Dm therefore, even more realistic as though the children can really touch it, therefore, experience such imagination and visual pleasure as it is so close to them based visually and based on their attraction to this type of magazine design. The images will also relate to the contents, therefore, visually present what is to be expected. The face on the right of the page could be a trademark which is a well recognised character of the magazine as though a mascot. It also makes the page seem more colourful and less plain, therefore, will attract primary school students to read on as they will feel that based on the pictures shown with limited (complicated) information/text, the magazine will suit them (as primary students aren’t mature to deal with large amounts of complicated information).
  • 6. The images and text will be slanted in an angle in order to attract children due to their love for weird and out of the ordinary shapes, colours and designs. The fact that they are not straight signifies that the magazine isn’t normal, therefore, may suggest that it is more creative than other magazines. If this idea is introduced, the audience will continue reading as they don’t want to continuously read repetitive versions which always follow conventions. Double page spread “LEARN HOW TO BECOME A WORK OF ART” with DDAA VVIINNCCII IMAGE IMAGE IMAGE IMAGE TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT The image (with the signature) has been formatted to make it seem as though a work of art, because. children are very well known for their creativity, therefore, if an element of art is introduced, this may attract them to read the magazine as they enjoy observing such designs and colours that they can get inspired from. The image of the models will be on the right half of the page to accompany the text so that the audience can visually interpret the information to understand easily. The text seems very artistic to relate to the theme of art and creativity which children seem to love. The name “Da Vinci” is large and bold to emphasises how it stands out from the rest of the text, similarly to how the artist’s art stood out for the world. “Da Vinci” is also around the model’s hair to signify that anyone can be an artist, even when young which could inspire children to read the magazine and learn how to become so creative.
