2. Existing Product
This product is similar to mine as I am going to do merchandise for my
band and it will include bright colours on the front of my product and
include the band name at the front of the T-shirt. The colours help to
make the pattern in the middle stand out and makes it more eye
catching for the audience. With my target audience being ages 13-30
having bright colours and making it stand out will appeal to them at it
grabs attention and creates a known theme for the band which I want
to create for mine.
The mise en scene of the T-shirt is similar to how I would like my
product to look like. I will sell my merchandise with the same front
angle that is used for this product as it gives it a full view on what it
looks like and if it will appeal to the audience. I will include a main
photo in the middle of the T-shirt with the bands name underneath, I
think this layout will appeal to my primary audience of ages 13-30 as
the layout is simple and easy but makes it more wearable for people
helping it to grab more attention and appeal to more of my audience.
The font used on the T-shirt is bold and simple so it helps to make it
easy to see what it says and make it stand out from the rest of the T-
shirt. This will appeal to my target audience as my primary gender is
female having simple font will appeal to them as it takes less attention
away from main focus of the T-shirt which will be a photo in the
middle but still shows who the T-shirt is by helping my audience enjoy
the products more.
The audience will appeal to this product as it helps to involve the
audience by including a product that will show off the band to other
people.
There will be different styles and colours of merchandise that will suit
to all of my audience and help to appeal to the whole of my audience.
3. Existing Product This is a band CD cover, it is similar to mine as it is a product I am going to make.
The angle and layout used for the existing product is similar to how I would like
mine to look as you can see all the members of the band and the different poses
used to show the different people. The mise en scene of the CD cover is similar to
how I want mine also as it includes a main photo, the name of the band and the
name of the album. I think these features will appeal to my target audience as
having a main photo in the middle to grab attention.
The location the photo is taken in is very simple and doesn’t stand out helping the
models in the photo stand out as they are the main focus. This gives me an idea to
not use a bold background and to keep it simple to make the main focus being the
models stand out from everything else.
The lighting of the photo is dark on the outside and gets brighter as you get into
the middle where the band is helping them to stand out and grab attention. They
have done this to bring attention and focus on the main things on the cover in this
case it is the name of the band and the title of the album, this is a good idea to
make it eye catching for the audience and makes it look effective.
The font used on the CD cover is right in the middle of the cover making sure it is
the first thing you see to grab everyone's attention. The font is easy to read and
big. Having simple fonts helps to still make other details stand out but still helps it
to add detail and easy for the audience to see who its by and breaks everything up
to make it look effective.
The colour scheme of the existing product all go together, all the costumes used
coordinate and sets a theme for the band. They all have a similar or matching
colour on with each other, they have done this as it helps to show they are a band.
When I take the photos for my band, I am going to make sure that they coordinate
as I think it looks effective and helps to show the audience that they are a band.
It will appeal to my audience as my age range varies so people could by the CD to
listen in the car or at home helping to appeal to the audience.
4. Existing Product
This magazine article is similar to how I would like product to
look like.
The mise en scene of the magazine article is similar to how I
want my final product to look like as it includes a photo of the
band in the top right corner to show the main focus of the
magazine. This will appeal to my audience as it is easy to see
straight away who the article is about from the photos that are
the main focus to grab attention. There is also a bold title in the
top left corner showing what the article is called and what it is
about. It also includes a lot of text talking about the band and
different information which a feature I would like to include on
my product as it helps to involve the audience. Having lots of
text makes the magazine look realistic and effective, this will
help to engage the audience to the band as it helps them feel
closer and more involved with the band.
The font used on the article is simple to make it easy for the
audience to read and understand. This will help with my
audience as the age range starts with the age 13 so having
simple font will make it easier for them to read and understand
the content helping simple font be suited to my younger
audience.
This product will appeal to my audience because it helps to see
what the band is doing and upcoming events that may be
interesting for them and keep them updated and keeping the
audience involved and entertained.
5. Existing Product This is a pre 1990 CD cover is it similar to mine because I am going to
include the main photo as my band to show what the main focus is.
This helps me to see an idea on what poses I should have the models
like and what will appeal to my audience and make it obvious to them
that it is a band.
The angle of the photo is the same as I will have for mine as it shows
all the members and helps the audience to see and know straight
away who it is. The photo angle is a long shot as you can see from the
knee up, you are able to see the stance of the models and the
different body language they are giving off. This means the audience
is able to see the different personalities of the band and get to feel
more involved with the band. The background of the photo is simple
and doesn’t grab much attention which is the same as mine will be as
I would like the band to stand out from everything else. With it being
a plain blue colour for the whole of the background it helps to make
what they are wearing stand out and show you that there is a
symmetrical theme of the band with the different outfits seen on the
models.
The font used on the CD cover is simple and easy to read and follows
the colour scheme on the cover with the yellow coloured text. The
text doesn’t take any focus away from the main details in the product
e.g. the models, making it more effective and more simple for the
audience to focus more on the photo so they can see who it is.
This will appeal to my audience as it shows they are a band and uses
similar features that I want to include showing that it will grab my
audiences attention.

25. Research Evaluation
• Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the
strengths and weaknesses of each method
– Product Research
– With product research you are able to look at a range of existing products and see different ideas used on
similar products to help get a overall look at themes and details used on different products. This is a
strength of product research as you can get a range of ideas and themes for you to use or recreate on your
own product. A weakness of product research is that there may not be products similar to your ideas
meaning it will be harder to get ideas and details for your own ideas. I used product research throughout
my project to look at existing products of the products I have created and looked at existing products to
see any details or ideas I could use on my products to make them look realistic and something that will
appeal to my audience.
– Questionnaires
– A strength of questionnaires is that you are able to ask different questions related to your own product to
get a range of answers from an audience similar to your age range to get an idea on whether your
products will appeal to your audience. A weakness of a questionnaire is that the answers you get from
your audience may not be the answers you need for your products and you may need to think of other
ideas that will appeal more to your audience to help your products be more successful. I created a
questionnaire for my products, it helps to see what your audience will enjoy and if the products I have
made are suitable for my audience and if they will be enjoyed by everyone.
– Interviews
– A strength of interviews is you can ask more questions you may not have included in your
questionnaire helping to get another range of answers for your products to see if it is right for your
audience and can get more detail and reasons why. A weakness for interviews is that the answers
you get for your questions could not be the answers you needed and could show whether the
products you have chosen are right and will appeal to your audience meaning you could have to
rethink ideas. My interviews helped me to see what things are good to include and what I shouldn’t
include to make it suit best to my audience. I will use this to helps my products appeal to everyone
26. Research Evaluation
– What sort of a response did you get?
Overall I got a good response from my research and I think there is a range of different
people in my audience and different products will appeal to different people helping it
interest the audience throughout the different products.
I think some of the responses from my audience suggest that some of them are not
interested in certain products whereas other people are interested giving me a range
of different opinions.
I can use these opinions and responses throughout my products to help to use or get
rid of certain ideas on my products to appeal to my target audience.
– How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a
disadvantage
By doing my research in three different ways I helped me distribute my products and
questions to a wide range of different audiences that are interested in different things.
An advantage of having it seen by a wide range if helps to see peoples opinions on my
products to give me a view on what people will enjoy and will not enjoy. A
disadvantage of distributing my survey is that some of the answers I have got for my
survey aren’t want I wanted and shows that some of the products I have chosen may
not appeal to my audience.
