Working Title:
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Felony Skateboards
Product’s Purpose:
What is the product’s purpose (entertain/educate etc.) and how will you achieve this?
My products are made to aid the skateboarding culture and to show the community what it is all
about. To achieve this I will use recognizable people to promote the brand. I will also use original
designs that people will like and respect.
Genre:
What sort of product is it
My genre is a sports brand, specifically an extreme sport, my overall product is a skate brand. I will
be including a magazine, a website, and merchandise. This covers print base and digital media.
Content
What is your product about? Discuss what you would put in it (be specific). Does it have a story? If
so, discuss it here
For my product, I am making a website, merchandise line, and magazine. For the website, I will be
making a skate brand dedicated website that people can easily use to navigate. I am going to
make it look quite modern and have things like a gallery, featured merchandise and a navigation
bar that has everything that everyone needs on to navigate the website easily. The base of my
website will be white and all of the writing will be black I am going to do this as I think that it is
easier to read as black is easier to read than white. The logo will be in the middle at the top of the
page this is good because it will be the first thing that people will see. This would be good, as they
will be instantly exposed to the logo. I am making a merchandise line that will be suitable and
durable for skaters because skater clothes rip a lot easier as they fall off their skateboards and it
rips easier. I will do that by using thick material. It will have some designs that are based for
skaters. The merchandise will have the logo on it in conventional places such as the left of the
chest and on the back. This is because it will expose more people to the brand if they see a logo
on the t-shirt. When I make my magazine there will be a good skate trick image with a big
masthead, to lure customers in and make it catch their eye. There will be a good skate trick to lure
customers in and make it catch their eye. The big masthead will advertise the brand and let people
know what they are buying. I will edit it so the skater is in front of the masthead, but the
background is behind him so that you can actually see what the skater is doing and, it would look
better as it looks like the title is in the actual image with the skater. I will include sub-stories to
advertise all of the different types of stories that are going to be on the magazine so that if a
customer is interested in a story they will buy it. I will also include some promotions such as free
hardware and a free DVD, so they will buy the magazine because there is a free item in this to also
have a bigger chance to lure customers in. I will be advertising free products if you buy the
magazine, so they will buy the magazine because everyone likes a free product.
Research & Planning
Where will you use elements of your research and planning to influence and inform your final idea
(be specific to a certain part)
I will study the existing products and pick parts from each one. For example, for the webpage, I will
try and base mine around the main big image in the middle. This would be good because it will
emphasize the greatness of the photo. Also, I will try and make a good design with the
skateboards that is artistic and make it suit in with the logo. It would be good to have multiple
colourways of each product as well and make a look book. For the magazine design, I will do more
of a modern feel to it. The research was useful even though I didn't really like it. I saw the flawrs in
the magazine and I am planning to adapt on them to make it better.
The research and planning helped me plan my magazine because I had the chance to make the
layout and see if it worked before I actually made it. Luckily it worked really well and it helped me
make my magazine because I knew where everything went. It helped me plan my website
because I had got to chance to research existing websites to see how they have laid it out.
Looking at how other people have set out their websites helped me because I got to see the pros

and cons of their website. It gave me the chance to see the cons and adapt on them in my final
product. My research helped me make my merchandise because of the questionnaires. The
questionnaire helped me decide a lot of things in my final product. I got the chance to actually
communicate with my audience and to see what they would like to see.
Audience:
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc.
Why would your project appeal to this person?
My target audience is the age of 16 – 19. This is because this age group is the student age and
the majority of the skaters are students/younger people. My target gender is male because the
majority of skaters are male however this could change because there is a female section of
skateboarding in the Olympics and there could be a major increase in female skaters. The
psychographic I have chosen is Belongers as they stay loyal to the brand, it would be good if
people stay loyal as they will keep buying my products over and over again. Also, they like to have
UK made products (for the ones who live in the UK) and my products will be made in the UK. Also,
Belongers normally live in cities and skating is most common in cities. My target social status is
lower/middle class as these are the groups that will be on the streets more. It is also because my
products will be affordable for the classes.
Legal & Ethical Considerations:
Think about any offensive material you will include?
I will be using designs that are to do with the culture of skating and my logo. There could be some
offensive content, but only bad words that I will blur out if I feel the need to add a bad word. This
links in with the ASA code ‘compliance’. I am going to be legal, decent, honest and truthful.
Will you restrict younger people using/accessing it?
No, I will not. Skating is all about diversity and anyone is accepted at the skate park. The culture
off skating accepts all ages. The younger people will just be my secondary audience. I will not
direct my advertisement at children though as skateboarding is a dangerous sport and it is against
the ASA codes to advertise anything dangerous towards children.
Will it offend any social groups/religions/ethnicities?
No, it will not. There is nothing in my projects that I am planning to do that even mentions an
ethnicity/group/religion. I will be using Caucasian males in my photos but that is not to leave
anyone out. It is just that the pictures I have chosen are Caucasian males. My projects are not set
out to offend anyone and it will not offend anyone.
How will you ensure you do not offend anyone?
I will not mention any groups and I will not put across or anything that will offend a certain type of
group.
Are you using characters/names/logos of existing products/IPs?
No, I will not be using already made things. I will be creating my own logos and names. This is the
safest way as it would be too much of a risk if I was to use a name that is copyrighted. This links in
with the ASA code ‘Privacy’. I am not using any well known celebrities so I will not need to get
permission before I use it.
Will your product be sufficiently different from existing products to not get sued for copyright
infringement?
Yes, it will be significantly different because I will ensure I make my own things. I am going to be
using a photo that is not mine but I will make sure it is free to use and has no restrictions so I do
not get a copyright strike.
