The masthead is really big and easy to see as
it contrasts with the blue background so you
can see the title easier. The masthead has a
red out line so that it looks 3d and it stands
out more.
They have a sub-heading saying that it is a
skateboard magazine. This is so that the people
know its a magazine about skating. This is an old
issue, when when skating wasn’t as big, it helped
the audience see that it was about skating.
The picture is on a
tilt. This is just so it
looks a bit more in
formal. It shows that
the magazine isnt
posh and it can be
quite edgy. This is
what their audience
is like as well. Skaters
are quite edgy and in
formal so this works
well.
The magazine says what it has on the inside, but instead of having it all on the top
of the picture it just says it on the bottom with a tiny part of the I overlaying it. They
did this with the R on thrasher as well. They did this simply because the image was
tilted and they still wanted to do the writing the same. The inside part makes it
easier for the audience to see what is inside the magazine. This copy is from the 80s
so it a bit more simple than other around today.
The barcode
placement is
pretty good
they have just
gone for the
common right
hand corner.
In this magazine brand I have noticed that they like to keep the picture, on the
front, mostly clear from writing. This is to exaggerate the picture and show the
audience how good it is.
The picture is fairly big and it covers 2 pages of the
inside. They have done the writing all around this
photo so the writing looks all weird and curvy. This
proves how informal it is. However it makes it look so
much better their audience, skaters, aren’t known to
be formal and they like informal things
The heading is in the
middle of all the
writing unlike the
generic placement for
heads at he top. It is in
bright red, whilst every
thing is grey. This
makes it stand out
more.
5. Existing Product
The mast head is really big. It is at the point
of bigness where if you were to walk past it
you would be able to read it in your
peripheral vision. This helps a lot because it
helps people recognize the brand.
There is a promotion at the top that makes people want
to buy it more because they are seeing that there is
something free inside and everyone likes free things. They
have done it in yellow so that its easier to spot.
The font/style of
the magazine is
really sleek.
Everything looks
like its really
easy to read.
Also the picture
of the cars is
very sleek as
well. This gives a
very clean look
to it which could
make people
want to buy it.
There main image is really clean looking and is done really well. On it you can see two recognizable
cars that most car enthusiast would like (or like one and not the other) and they are comparing them
on performance. The contrast between the yellow and blue car is really good. It looks like a similar car
from looks but the colours show that they are completely different. This makes people intreeged
about them so they will buy the magazine.
There are
a few sub-
stories
that are in
the front
cover that
could also
intreeg
the
audience.
In this mag they
didn’t cram
loads of things
in the cover.
They left some
room for the
picture.
The whole layout of the inside of the
magazine looks really good. There is a big
picture on the left of a certain car, which
looks really good with the focus on the car
whilst its driving. They are obviously
portraying this car as a good car (maybe
even trying to sell them) because the
picture is really good.
The writing on the inside is really well layed out. The
blue lin eon where to start reading is really good and
looks really cool as well.
7. Existing ProductThe front picture looks
really bright and glamorous
the shiny gold dress
matched with the shiny gold
writing looks really good.
They lure people in by
having a in shape/good
looking person (mainly
women) on the front so the
audience sees it as a fantasy
to look that good.
The title is covered by
the head. This is so
you can have a big
picture on the front
and you don’t have to
worry about it being
covered by the title.
The gold
glitter in
the back
blends
in really
nice to
the res
of the
front.
The top
subheading
contrasts with
the black
background as
its white.
The sub-
heading is
fairly big
and in a
similar font
to the mast
head.
The layout of this page is really
sleek and nice. I love how the
T is really big compared to all
of the writing, that is in a neat
box like shape.
The title is not really
big but it is just big
enough to see it
first. It is also in a
cool font. Its
different to the
writing and the
front cover
The writer
has a
picture
that is
fairly
small as
its not
that
important
This is some cool graphics at the
bottom which imply that the article
is happy and nice as its all jolly
colours. It is a cool add on as well it
really makes it more interesting and
livens the whole thing up a lot
more. Without it is would be dull.
This page has a
massive
advertisement
picture, which
these kind of
magazines
tend to have.

8. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products have?
– They all have massive front page mastheads that stands out.
– They all have a specific shape for their articles.
– They all have some sort of picture on the front
– They all have some sort of picture inside.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your
on work?
– I am going to make a big front cover title so that the audience
can see it easier and so they know what the magazine is called
so they can buy it again next time.
– I will have a main picture on the front of my magazine. So that if
the audience is interested in it they will pick it up and buy it.
– I will add pictures inside for context and so that they don’t need
to visualise the person/thing I am going to go on about.
