Existing Product It tells you which month and
which season each magazine is
The colour co
ordination in the whole
of this magazine cover
makes the look of the it
seem more aseptically
pleasing
They have added a
celebrities name to
draw more people to
buy the magazine
More big names
added on different
colours/fonts to
make them stand
out more
Plain background
to make the
model the main
focus of the photo
They have used the same
shade of yellow to tie the
whole magazine together
They have a big bold
subheading to draw
the readers attention
Different colored
writing to make some
bits stand out more
than others
The word power
stands out as it is
in a bigger sixe and
with a capital P
The blue stands out on the
girls jumper and makes
the reader look at the
clothes of the model
Different sizes and
fonts to emphasize
how important some
pieces of text are
White text is used when
the girls dark hair is
behind it so that it is
clearer to see
The word pop has an
exclamation mark as
well as being a bright
and bold colour to
draw the readers
attention to it
The word ‘teen’ has been
put into more of a
relaxed font that the
vogue so that it appeals
to the audience more
Existing Product
Lots of different shapes that
stand out from the black
background
Different characters with bright
and bold colours to draw the
viewers attention
Main celebrity's name
bright and bold which
draws attention because
of the black background
Small symmetrical tour
dates and places this is a
good layout as is
As well as being
informational this is a
good layout and adds to
the design of t-shirt
The main background colour
is black and I think this is
suitable for a big range of
people as it is basic and is a
popular shade of clothing as
it is not specific to any one
person.
The logo is a typical,
basic and easy logo as
it is just words no
pictures or shapes and
is a white which stands
out from the main
background colour of
black
This is a typical t-shirt
design which would
suit many people as it
isn't specific for one
person or one gender
Existing Product A plain background to draw
more attention to the main
focus
Some scaffolding in
the background to
add the streetwear
effect
The angle that this
photo has been taken
at portrays the model
to be taller and bigger
than they actually are
A plain t-shirt design so
that the viewer. doesn’t
think that there is too
much going on
In this photo there is
a dark atmosphere
which could either
make the models
clothes appear
brighter and more
HD
Bright colorful that draws
attention as the t-shirt is
bright white
Dark other clothes
to draw more
attention to the top
Basic t-shirt short sleeve
as is most popular and
isn't specific
The target
audience is going
to be 16-20yr
olds as it is very
fashionable
The colours are
very gender
typical as it is
pink and blue
Old/grey
buildings so that
the attention is
all focused on the
model and
clothing
Existing Product Basic short sleeve t-shirt
design as this appeals to
many different people and is
not specific to one type or
one gender
An interesting design
which is very different to
what the t-shirt designs
are like now compared to
before the 1990s
It is a striking design
however the colours
aren’t very bold as they
fit the genre of music
The layout fits the genre of
music as they are more likely to
wear darker clothes
Pyromania is the
album that the t-shirt
is advertising as this is
the merch from it
The font of the name is
very deadly and dangerous
as it is abit like knifes and
sharp objects
Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have? In the products I have researched I have noticed some
common features throughout for example I think that the colour schemes in all the
products is very vital to pay attention to as it makes the products more attractive
towards the age range. In the magazine cover there is a colour scheme of the same kind
of yellow throughout the cover and I think that this really draws attention to it as the
writing and different styles of font contribute towards the end style.
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work?
– In my own work I will use this method of tying one colour into many different
aspects of my magazine cover as well as my t-shirt design for example in my
magazine I plan on using a picture with a blossom tree in the background so I will
use Photoshop to make sure that I can have some of the writing in the same colour
of the blossom tree. In my photography I will also use these products to influence
my work as the backgrounds in most professional photos are quite bland and bare
so that the person/clothing item can really stand out compared to people more
finding interest in other parts of the photograph.
Questionnaire Analysis
Audience research
• Observation: From this question in my
survey I can see that 50% of my audience are 17 years of
age and 37% of my audience are 18 years old and older,
however only 13% of audience are 16 which means I
should aim my products at 17 and 18 year olds.
• What this says about my
audience: this tells me that my audience are
older and would prefer maybe a more professional
approach to my practical work.
• How will your product
appeal to this audience: I will
make sure this appeals to my audience by
making the products a little more mature and
suited towards more 17/18+ audience .
Audience research
• Observation: From this question in my survey I
can infer that the majority of my audience are male
therefore I will aim my products more towards a male
audience however I will not disregard any female
views and make it not specific towards any one
gender
• What this says about my audience: this
tells me that most of my audience are male however
this could just be because of the audience I chose to
send my survey to as maybe if I had knowingly sent it
to a majority of male figures I would of adapted it so
that I could get a female opinion in addition to a male
opinion.
• How will your product appeal to this
audience: I will make sure this appeals to my
audience by presenting it in a manner which is more
suited towards a male gender.
Audience research
• Observation: from my survey I can
infer that the specific colours would affect
there preference when buying a magazine.
• What this says about my
audience: this tells me that my
audience would prefer to have a specific
colour scheme and not just random
colours that don’t match together as this
would mean that they are more likely to
actually buy it.
• How will your product
appeal to this audience: I
will make sure that my products appeal to
my audience by ensuring that in my
products the colours will match and I will
have a specific colour scheme.
Audience research
• Observation: from this observation I can tell that
most of my audience prefer images and more draw towards
the pictures on the magazine and is most drawn to.
• What this says about my audience:
this tells me that my audience maybe are visual
learners and more prefer images and become more
attracted to the front cover on the magazine.
• How will your product appeal to this
audience: I will make sure that my magazine
appeals to my audience by including and attention
drawing picture to use.
Audience research
• Observation: from this question in my
survey I can see that there are very mixed opinions
about whether graphic and bold images should be
on a t-shirt or not and if they are more likely to buy
it or not
• What this says about my
audience: this tells me that my audience are
very not opinionated on t-shirt deigns.
• How will your product appeal
to this audience: using this information I
will make sure to appeal to my audience by suppling
demands and making some t-shirts with graphic images
on and some that don’t.
Audience research
• Observation: from this question in my survey
I can tell that my audience aren’t interested in one
specific type of t-shirt style.
• What this says about my audience:
this tells my that there isn’t a general opinion about
what t-shirt style they are more likely to buy and
maybe it doesn’t actually matter about the style just
the actually t-shirt itself.
• How will your product appeal to this
audience: I will make sure to appeal to my
audience by creating many different t-shirt deigns.
Audience research
• Observation: from this question in my survey I can
observe that there are many mixed opinions about
whether the models advertising the clothes will affect the
rate of buyers of the clothes.
• What this says about my audience: this tells my
that there isn’t one specific opinion about whether the
models will affect the viewers and if they are more
likely to buy it.
• How will your product appeal to this
audience: I will ensure to suit all my audiences opinions by
using some famous people and some not as some to some
people it doesn’t apply and doesn’t mean anything.
Audience research
• Observation: from this question in my survey I can tell
that there are many different peoples preferences about what
photography they are actually interested in.
• What this says about my audience: this tells
me that I need to include a range of different types of
photography to draw the attention of my audience.
• How will your product appeal to this
audience: I will make sure that this will appeal to
my audience by including different backgrounds and
different styles of editing.
Audience research
• Observation: from this question in my survey I can observe th
certain celebrity is not more likely to attract my audience to reading
article.
• What this says about my audience: this tells my that m
audience aren’t bothered about higher status and celebrity's and maybe just w
to read the article even if its not about someone famous.
• How will your product appeal to this audience
• I will ensure that this will appeal to my audience by not basing my
magazine on talking about pointless celebrity's as my audience aren
bothered about big names.
Audience research
• Observation: from this question in my survey I can tell that my
audience have mixed opinions about fashion photography and
whether this would influence them to buy specific things.
• What this says about my audience: this tells me that
my audience aren’t that bothered about the photography and it isn’t
more likely to influence them to buy it.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
I will still use fashion photography to advertise the clothes as I think
this is the best technique.
Interviews
Interview 1
• What colours are you drawn to in a magazine cover and why? Colours
which contrast well, so all pastels or all similar shades that oppose each
other, so classic combinations of red, black, white grey are used as they
are eye catching but also connote a genre.
• Is there a specific thing you tend to look for when shopping for t-shirts?
Interesting and unusual designs, possibly brand logos and good material.
• Are you drawn to a more sophisticated approach of a magazine or more
childish and relaxed? Mix between the two, magazines which offer
information whilst also have entertaining stories.
• Are you likely to spend time to look through photography to look at a
clothing range? Yea, look books and fashion shoots work well as you can
see the outfit as a whole and also it is usually in a location which reflects
the style.
• Do you prefer coloured t-shirts or plain with pictures? Either, it depends
on the overall design and the style of the top.
Interview 1
• Observation: From this interview I can observe that when using
lots of colours I need to make sure that they contrast well and work
together well, this will draw my viewers attention. This also tells me that
my audience prefer an informative approach whilst also being
entertaining.
• What this says about my audience: this tells me that
my audience want to enjoy what they are reading and looking at but at the
same time still being reading something that is actually informative and
worth reading.
• How will your product appeal to this
audience: I will make sure that my products will appeal to this
audience by including good colours and information on my front cover as
well as making it aesthically pleasing.
Interview 2
• What colours are you draw to in a magazine cover and why?
• Darker colours such as navy blue black grey and all those sort of colours
• Is there a specific thing you tend to look for when shopping for t-shirts?
• A causal and simple design with a large variety of colours usually sometimes they
just need a few dark colours to go with the design
• Are you drawn to a more sophisticated approach of a magazine or more childish
and relaxed?
• It depends if it is about clothes then most likely childish would be a bit more
effective with a simple layout but sophisticated could be good to attract more
attention to the magazine
• Are you likely to spend time to look through photography to look at a clothing
range?
• Not particularly but I have done before hand
• Do you prefer coloured t-shirts or plain with pictures?
• Plain white not shirts with a good design are great but it is equally as good as
coloured t shirts it just depends on the design
Interview 2
• Observation: from this interview I can observe that my audience
are more interested in darker colours and maybe a darker theme and a
simplistic approach towards my products.
• What this says about my audience: this tells me that
a sophisticated and simple approach can be good as well as having colour.
• How will your product appeal to this
audience: I will maybe take a more simplistic and grown up take to my
products to help all my audiences be more attracted towards it.
Audience Profile
Category Demographic Content to appeal to this audience
Age Range
16-19yrs • I will make sure that my products appeal to
this age range by making the style of the
clothing very sophisticated and the layout
of the magazine informational
Gender
Male and female • I will not have a specific gender style or
layout as it will appeal to all genders by
using unisex t-shirts and using a wide range
of colour schemes and designs.
Psychographic
Be longer • Most likely to live in a small city and well
connected to family, this could appeal to my
audience as they might prefer more unique
and original products as they are not used
to big brands.
Social Status
Middle class • My products will appeal to any class as they
are not specific however price range will be
aimed at middle class, I will not use
exclusivity to any products.
Research Evaluation
Research Evaluation
• Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the
strengths and weaknesses of each method
– Product Research
– In my opinion I think that some of my strengths of product research is that I went quite in
depth in the research when I was evaluating and analysing other existing products, I feel that
this really helped my final products as I really analysed every detail of a magazine which then
contributed towards the layout of my final product, however I think that a weakness of my
product research is that I chose very similar products to look at whereas I should of chose a
variety so that I could see the differences between them all.
– Questionnaires
• I think that a strength of my questionnaires were that I asked a range of questions that
catered to all my different products and this gave me some good feedback for all my
different products however I feel that I could of asked questions that would be more
useful and would of made a difference towards the final products.
• Interviews
• I think that a strength of my interviews is that I asked questions about all my different products
for example my t-shirt, my magazine design and photography. However I believe that a
weakness of my interview is that my questions weren't In depth enough so I didn't receive the
answers that I was hoping for.
Research Evaluation
– What sort of a response did you get?
I found that my questions where responded to quite roughly and not in a lot of depth however I feel like
this could be because of the questions I asked, maybe I would of needed to asked specific questions to
receive the answers that I would of liked and that would really of benefited me.
– How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage
– To distribute my survey I decided to send it by emails and in my opinion I think that an advantage of
using emails is that there is a low cost and that it is free to use emails, however a disadvantage of
using email to send out my survey is that only the people that I send the link to will be able to
complete it.

Existing Product Lots of different shapes that stand out from the black background Different characters with bright and bold colours to draw the viewers attention Main celebrity's name bright and bold which draws attention because of the black background Small symmetrical tour dates and places this is a good layout as is As well as being informational this is a good layout and adds to the design of t-shirt The main background colour is black and I think this is suitable for a big range of people as it is basic and is a popular shade of clothing as it is not specific to any one person. The logo is a typical, basic and easy logo as it is just words no pictures or shapes and is a white which stands out from the main background colour of black This is a typical t-shirt design which would suit many people as it isn't specific for one person or one gender
  • 4. Existing Product A plain background to draw more attention to the main focus Some scaffolding in the background to add the streetwear effect The angle that this photo has been taken at portrays the model to be taller and bigger than they actually are A plain t-shirt design so that the viewer. doesn’t think that there is too much going on In this photo there is a dark atmosphere which could either make the models clothes appear brighter and more HD Bright colorful that draws attention as the t-shirt is bright white Dark other clothes to draw more attention to the top Basic t-shirt short sleeve as is most popular and isn't specific The target audience is going to be 16-20yr olds as it is very fashionable The colours are very gender typical as it is pink and blue Old/grey buildings so that the attention is all focused on the model and clothing
  • 5. Existing Product Basic short sleeve t-shirt design as this appeals to many different people and is not specific to one type or one gender An interesting design which is very different to what the t-shirt designs are like now compared to before the 1990s It is a striking design however the colours aren’t very bold as they fit the genre of music The layout fits the genre of music as they are more likely to wear darker clothes Pyromania is the album that the t-shirt is advertising as this is the merch from it The font of the name is very deadly and dangerous as it is abit like knifes and sharp objects
  • 6. Research Analysis • What common features do the researched products have? In the products I have researched I have noticed some common features throughout for example I think that the colour schemes in all the products is very vital to pay attention to as it makes the products more attractive towards the age range. In the magazine cover there is a colour scheme of the same kind of yellow throughout the cover and I think that this really draws attention to it as the writing and different styles of font contribute towards the end style. • What aspects of the research will you include within your on work? – In my own work I will use this method of tying one colour into many different aspects of my magazine cover as well as my t-shirt design for example in my magazine I plan on using a picture with a blossom tree in the background so I will use Photoshop to make sure that I can have some of the writing in the same colour of the blossom tree. In my photography I will also use these products to influence my work as the backgrounds in most professional photos are quite bland and bare so that the person/clothing item can really stand out compared to people more finding interest in other parts of the photograph.
