2. Existing Product Here they have used a small pop of colour in the
corner with some information, they have placed
it in the corner so that it doesn’t attract to much
attention however it is still there for the viewer
to read, the pop of colour doesn’t take the black
and white theme away as it isn't too intense.
The big masthead is in a bold stark
white colour that attracts a lot of
attention and is more so focused on the
Black and White words as they draw
peoples attention in.
The background has been softly blurred to keep the
full attention on just the model and the writing, I
think that this works well and this is known as bokeh
photography where an image is blurred however you
can still make out what they are wanting you to see.
They have used many different shades of white when it
comes to the writing on the magazine and this equivalents to
the importance of the text as the more important writing will
be in a brighter white as they want you to read it however
information with less significance will be faded and blend in
so that it doesn’t grab your attention immediately.
The model is standing the opposite way to the
camera which allows there to be additional text
and surroundings, I think that the angle of the
image works well as with the black and white it
allows us to see the many different shades in her
hair to her face.
They have used many different fonts in all the
information and I think that this really adds a
bit of versatile into the whole magazine as it
doesn’t just look like one big chunk of writing
instead it changes it into different parts of
information.
They have used different types of shading to create
more depth into the models face and to make her
look more structured and I think that I will use this in
my own work as it goes well with the black and white
as there are many different shades on the models
face.
Here they have added a larger number 6 which
is in a much bolder font as well as a much
brighter white to draw more attention to the
number, they also have smaller and dimmer text
next to the 6 however it isn't as much an
importance for the reader to view this part first.
For the location of the photo they have chose
an outdoor scenery and I think that this works
well with the model as the black and white
creates a contrast between the outside and
the model herself.
I have chose to look and research this product as I think that it is a very typical black and white magazine as it has all the right factors without stepping outside of the
box, however this is something that I am possibly looking to create therefore looking into it and really annotating it will help me when it comes to my own work. In my
opinion I think that it makes the audience more attracted and want to buy it by the subtitles as they play a key role in the information and what the reader wants to see
first for example the big bold words Black and White draw a lot of attention as well as the number 6 and this makes the readers want to know what is the number 6 for
and what can I learn from this magazine, as well as the text the image itself plays a big role as the model is the main focus as the background is not in focus which
draws more attention to the main outline of the models face and I think that this plays a big role in the whole overall look of the photo as a side view shot is normally
taken to get a clear view of the nose/jawline/etc. therefore this type of photography works well on the front of a magazine especially as it is a photography magazine
the reader will be wanting to learn or find out how to do specific shots and the initial shot on the front cover is very important to engage the audience and make them
want to read more and buy the actual product. From this existing product I have learned a lot that I will further take forward and use in my own work for example I
think that these side profile pictures work well where they are focused on the actual structure of the face for the front cover of a magazine.
3. Existing Product In this magazine there is a theme of black and
white which works well however they have
included a pop of colour at the top which draws
the readers attention however it doesn’t make
it the main focus as the colour in right in the
top corner therefore it adds abit of diversity to
the whole black and white theme.
The masthead is separated into 2 different titles
as all together it reads amateur photographer
however the bigger bolder word photographer
stands out more and I think that this will attract
the reader more from just one simple word
photographer.
In this magazine the models face us very white
and bare as they have not really tried to
enhance any of her cheek bones the have just
made one side very light and the other side
very dark to the point where features are
unrecognizable.
The angle that the photograph has been
taken is very low and straight on therefore
they have used different equipment like
lights to get this shadow effect that you
wouldn’t be able to get naturally.
The title for this Amateur Photographer makes the
reader feel that even if they haven't had much or
nay experience they can still read this and find out,
this title as a whole draws the reader in as the first
word that they will see is photographer and then
the more they look the word amateur really jumps
out at the reader.
There seems to be a lot going on in this
magazine however one of the things that
really stands out is the small image of an
actual camera now this works well as at
first people might think that it is
something you can win and then the more
they actually look into why there is a
camera there they are more likely to
actually buy the magazine
The large subtitle fits in nicely with the
whole theme as the lighting word is visibly a
lot bigger and draws quite a lot of attention
to the bottom of the magazine where not a
lot is really going on, the font that they have
used here is very soft and works well with
the soft white colours.
In my opinion I think that this magazine makes the audience want to buy it from the amount that is really going on for example the pop of colour really draws
peoples attention more and the small images makes the magazine look like it has a lot going on and a lot for the reader if they buy it. I think that they have used a
lot of good photography based phrases that will draw more so people that are interested in this subject in and just from the camera picture you can really rather
that it actually is a photography magazine. I chose to look at this magazine as I want my own work to turn out similar to this one with the black and white theme
but also with pops of colour and small images add an more interesting approach while still keeping the theme to show that it is a photography magazine. I have
learned a lot of things from analyzing and researching this magazine for example I really enjoy the way that there is a lot going on in the magazine but it doesn’t
look like there is too much and everything is in the right place for example the camera picture is eye level with the model and I think that this type of placement
works well as its just there right in front of you and you don’t have to really look as see what everything is saying or about as the more so important things are very
visible and bold for the reader to see.
4. Existing Product The first thing you see when you look at this
magazine is the big bold masthead and I think that
the style and colour way that they have chosen looks
really good. A bold white colour with a pop of red on
the dots of the is really works well with the black and
white image that they have used, I also think that
the placement of this works well as it is the first
thing as it is in eye level as well as being at the top of
the page.
The pop of colour works well with the
black and white as it adds abit more fun
and colour back into a very dark and low
life magazine.
For the main focus on this magazine they have used a
interesting photograph of a young boy next to some birds
however the birds have been places so that one of the
boys eyes have been covered with the birds eye, I think
that this works really well as at first glance it is confusing
and makes the reader have to double look to really see
what is going on. This type of image is going to attract
more so art/photography people as they want to see
what is really happening with the eye.
The birds are a unique idea and make the
front of the magazine that bit more
interesting and draws a wider range of
the audience as the image is more so
classed unusual.
The different coloured text really
adds a more diverse colour scheme
while the overall magazine still looks
very dark and monochrome theme. I
think that the orange and red creates
a more so warm theme while still
keeping the main focus on the boy
and the birds. The contrast of the
white and orange text works well
against each other as it makes the
white stand out even more which
makes it look and seem more
important text.
They have used many different fonts which
make it look like there isn’t too much of the
same writing and diversifies it all up abit
making the reader think that there really isn’t
as much writing as there really is.
In my opinion I think that it makes the audience want to buy the magazine as it has a very interesting and mysterious vibe and the way that it is set out, initially the
first thing that you really see is the main image and the masthead as they are the most boldest thing that first stick out and I think that this is a good thing because as
a magazine you want your reader to see the best parts first and I think that the image is really strong however the masthead doesn’t really take away from this. I
think that the approach that they take to make you actually want to buy it is some of the slogans for example the large 5000 makes the reader wonder what that
5000 is really about and they have lots of little mysterious things that draw your attention as a buyer. I have decided to research this specific magazine cover as I
think that it is the same style that I want my make my own work therefore I needed to really research the good and bad parts about it and then I can use them in my
favor to make my magazine as good as possible. From this I have learned a lot for instance I like the way that this magazine is based a lot just around the image and
the different colour scheme and I think that I will take this into consideration for my own magazine as I think that it makes the magazine look a lot more mature and
sophisticated but still interesting. I also have learned about the different ways of the layout and I really like the way this one is laid out with the masthead and the
sub headers easy to read but not taking up too much attention.
5. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have? From all the products that I researched I think that one of the most common factors is the
layout of the magazine and I think that this is because most magazines have the same layout as it really works therefore why wouldn’t
they use it, for the masthead they have all used the masthead above the image and in a bold white text and I think that this works well
and stands out without taking too much attention away from the actual main image. I also can notice that in each of the products they
have used a clear colour scheme along side the monochromatic black and white and I think that this works nicely as it is still keeping the
theme of black and white and looks sophisticated however I think that adding a pop of colour can make it look more interesting and it
gives an aesthic appeal as all the colour schemes look overall good and well thought about. A common theme in a lot of magazines and in
the ones that I have researched above all use photos of people close up or far away and I think that this makes the reader want to buy it
more as they can relate to the people whereas if on the front cover it was a landscape photo of a field it wont grab your attention as
much as a person, leading on from this I think a strong factor is when the model is directly looking at the camera as it makes the reader
feel as if it could be aimed towards them.
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your own production work? In my own work I will make sure to include
a wide range of all of these factors as I want my magazine to be as good as possible and I think that by combining all the good things from
these magazines it can help to make the perfect magazine for example I will definitely make sure to include a well thought out colour
scheme along side the monochromatic black and white and I think that this will give my magazine a mature but interesting factor. On my
front cover I do plan to use a model for the photography as I personally think that this will appeal to my audience more and I will use one
where the model is looking directly into the camera to make the reader feel as if they are part of the image and so they can relate more I
think that this will work in the grand scheme of things as I think that it appeals to my target audience more if I use an actual person on
the front cover. Using a clear layout system like these magazines I have researched will benefit my magazine I think as it will make it more
professional and therefore people are more likely to buy it.
7. Primary research
• For my primary research I decided to create and go with the idea of an interview as I think that this will give me more
direct and more in depth answers. For the planning of this interview I started out by brainstorming ideas on a mind
map to really get me to think about what type of questions I should be asking and from there I decided on what
types of questions I was going to need to ask in order to get the right responses that I am after. I decided to ask the
questions about what the audience wants to see for example I will ask a question like what is your favourite style of
photography magazine and then I will just use this to my advantage to make what the buyer really wants. In my
opinion an interview will work better for research as I think and hope that it will lead me to getting more in depth and
unique answers that I can really just jump off and interpret in my own way.
8. Primary research questions
Here we can see that in the end I only ended up asking 4 questions however I think that these questions will lead me to
success as they all lead of so that I can get very specific answers and use them to my advantage. I decided to ask
questions that I thought I wouldn’t really be able to use in my survey as they would be too detailed hopefully and
therefore I used them in my interview so that I can get the most out of this interview.
Here I have used “you” so
that the reader puts
themselves in that
situation to really get a
more personal answer.
Here I have used “in
your opinion” so that
the reader puts
themselves in that
situation to really get
a more personal and
unique answer as its
their opinion.
Here I have used a strong
word as most important
and I think that this works
well as it really draws the
attention of the audience
and gets them thinking.
Using the word prefer is
a more subtle effect of
asking what they want
and what they think is
the best.
Another word that
really gets the
reader putting
themselves into the
situation and
question to get a
more in depth
answer.
Using the “and why?” on the end of the questions
really gets the reader to come up with an actual
answer that is explainable that I can then use so
therefore it will help the outcome of the magazine.
9. Primary Audience research
• Observation: Initially from this question I think that the two interviewees have similar answers and I think
that this was a good question however I think that it could be expanded more. The first answer isn't very clear on
their answer however it is still interesting to find out that the most attention grabbing magazine is usually what
they go for, the second answer is a lot more to the point and really just tells me what style of magazine they would
personally go for
• What this says about my audience: this tells me that my audience want something maybe more
on the simple side while still being attention grabbing with enough going on to keep the viewer entertained.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will make my product appeal by
making sure that it meets all of the topics that the interviewees have talked about for example I want to
make sure that it really grabs your attention and stands out while not being too much and still keeping a
more sophisticated vibe as I think that this will suit my audience the best and this is what the interviewees
said.
10. Primary Audience research
• Observation: from this interview I can see that both the interviewees think that the most important part is
the main image/centre piece, usually the model and I agree with this and I will use this in my own work to make sure that
the most important part is the model.
• What this says about my audience: this tells me that my audience prefer
a more generic layout as the most important part is typically the main piece as it is the first thing that you
see therefore you want to make sure that the reader will appreciate it and remember it.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will make it
appeal to my audience by making sure that I have a really strong centre piece therefore I can bounce simple text
around it to keep it the main most important part of the magazine cover.
11. Primary Audience research
• Observation: from this question and answers I can tell that it would benefit my magazine if I used a mixture of both as
the first interviewee said that they would prefer different pages for each to separate things however the second answer tells a good point
about having a full double page spread of just the writing could come across as boring and they may loose interest.
• What this says about my audience: this tells my that my audience are all very different
and that you cant please everyone however I do think that by doing a mixture you can still appeal to everyone as it will include different
parts of what everyone thinks is best, I also think that using both techniques means that the reader wont find it boring as each page should
be different.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will make sure to
appeal to my audience by using both different techniques as this will work best for my audience and for the reader of the magazine as it
means that each page will be different in one way or another.
12. Primary Audience research
• Observation: from this question I didn’t get very detailed answers but I think that this is because the answer is very
clear and short about the front cover as it is the first thing that the reader will see before buying it therefore it has to make a good
impression so that the reader wants to buy it to read and view the rest of the magazine.
• What this says about my audience: this tells me that my audience prefer a good
looking front cover that makes them actually want to buy it and that they prefer a aesthic appeal rather than a really big magazine as they
want something that makes them want to buy the magazine purely from the magazine front cover.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will make
sure to appeal to my audience by making sure that I make the magazine my first priority to make sure that it is as good as possible so that
it can really make the reader want to buy it to read the rest from purely just what they saw on the front cover. I will also make sure to try
not make the magazine look like it is trying too hard as I think that this could be where some magazines go wrong as you want to make the
reader feel that it is there idea to buy the magazine and that they really want it.
13. Primary Audience research reflection
• From my primary research I have gathered a lot of information that I can then use to better
the ways of my magazine for example I am going to make the magazine cover the first priority
as in my interviews people said that they think it is the most important part and I agree with
this as it is the first thing that they see, to do this I will use all the answers and information to
make the magazine cover as good as possible and making sure that the image is the best it
can be as long with the masthead and headers. I will also make sure that I try to mix the
insides of my magazine up by using some double page spreads with writing and images and
some just images/writing as this is what the answers said and I think that this will make my
magazine hopefully more interesting and keep the reader reading on. I think that I have
gained a lot of new information from my interview and I think that it will really help towards
a good end product, however I still think that I could of tried to ask more questions however I
will be completing a survey that will include more simplistic questions that are more to the
point but I wanted to create an interview that I could ask questions that meant that I could
get specific answers instead of yes/no questions. I think overall my interview was a success as
I got some good answers that I agree with and I think that they will be a big contribution to
the end product.
14. Secondary Audience research
I decided to create an initial survey so that I can get some simple answers to start me off asking some basic questions then once I get the feedback I can expand my
questions, I asked 7 simple questions that I thought would initially help me. Here you can see the questions I decided to ask as I thought that these would be
helpful to start me off with what questions I am wanting to ask after. I started off with what the age range of my viewers would be as then I could more so get a
feel for who would be reading my magazine. The next questions I have asked what is the first thing that they are drawn to in a magazine as I think that this will tell
me what I should focus on first and what the first thing that they see is so can make it the best part when they are looking into the magazine. I have tried to ask as
many diversified questions as possible as I want to get different types of answers to benefit my magazine as much as possible. I think by asking a range of different
style questions this means that my audience hopefully don’t answer the same things as I want to get as different answers as possible in order to really find out the
best ways for different things for example colours/pictures/fonts. I think that a survey works well especially for my audience age range and I feel that it is very
simple while being able to get a wide range of answers that are suited to lots of different people. Using survey monkey to help create my survey really worked well
and I think that it was very easy and simple to use however I think that my questions could have been developed more as in some of the answers they didn’t give a
detailed answer as I didn’t explain the question enough.
15. Secondary Audience research
• Observation: this tells me that my audience is around the age range of 17/18 with the exception
of 1 or 2 that are over 18 therefore I need to take this into consideration when it comes to targeting them as a
whole.
• What this says about my audience: this tells me that I will need to approach this
age range as these will be the people that I am wanting to buy my magazine therefore I need to make sure that it appeals to
them.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: to make my
product appeal to my audience I will make sure to take their age into consideration when creating my product as I have
to think would an 18 want to buy this and tell their friends about it. I think that the fact that I am in this age range also
helps as it gives me an advantage .
16. Secondary Audience research
• Observation: this tells me that my audience are mostly drawn to the main image on the front
cover therefore I need to make sure I make this a priority when it comes to the actual production
• What this says about my audience: this tells me that maybe because
my audience is a younger age range the image is the first thing that really pops out to them
• How will your product appeal to this audience: to
make sure that my product appeals to my audience I will make sure that my main image is good as if it is the first
thing they see I want it to make them want to buy it and continue reading.
17. Secondary Audience research
• Observation: from this I can see that most of my audience prefer a simple magazine cover as it
looks cleaner and they think a complex one is more likely to overwhelm them.
• What this says about my audience: this tells me that my audience
even though are in the younger age range category they prefer things simple and not too over the top which I
think will work well for my magazine.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will
make sure that I appeal to my audience by taking all their feedback in and make sure that my front cover doesn’t
come across as overwhelming.
18. Secondary Audience research
• Observation: this tells me that my audience have mixed opinions however the majority of the
answers tells me that they prefer just one picture again because they think more will be too overwhelming.
• What this says about my audience: this tells me that my audience
again prefer things simple and easy to read and I think I will definitely use this feedback as I agree with the
answers.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will
make sure to appeal to my audience by taking all this feedback and making sure that there isn't too
much going on in the magazine.
19. Secondary Audience research
• Observation: from this I gained a lot of mixed opinions about whether I should showcase what is
going to be inside the magazine or not and I think that this is normal that it is a mixed opinion as they both have
their qualities therefore I think I need to add half and half into my magazine.
• What this says about my audience: this tells me that my audience
think different things and I cant suit everyone however I think adding abit of everyone's ideas it will work better.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: to
make sure that my product appeals to my audience I will try to include both answers so that my magazine
is different and has abit of everyone in.
20. Secondary Audience research
• Observation: from this I can see that all my audience would prefer the masthead to be
above the main image and at the top of the page and I think that this will work well for my magazine as
that is the layout I was hoping to get.
• What this says about my audience: this tells me that my
audience things done the proper way and because a lot of popular magazines have the masthead at
the top of the page therefore the associate this with a good magazine.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will
make sure to place my masthead at the top of the page and try to make it above the main image to make
it look more professional.
21. Secondary Audience research
• Observation: from this I collected very mixed answers and I think that this is because it is a personal
preference really and I think that either could work really well.
• What this says about my audience: this tells me that there is no right
answer for this question as it completely depends on who is reading the magazine however saying this the
majority did say male but this could be a biased opinion.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will try to
include both genders in my work as I think then I can appeal to all however I think when it comes to the
magazine cover I will just really use what photo I think will work best and not really chose it because the
model is male or female.
22. Secondary Audience research
reflection
• I used survey monkey to make my surveys and I think that this software works well as it is
very easy to use and gives you a lot of options and tips however when it comes to the actual
questions themselves I think that I could of expanded my questions abit more in order to get
more detailed and specific answers for example now looking back at the questions and
answers I regret asking the question about whether they would prefer a male or female on
the front cover as it is really just personal preference and because everyone is different it
would be hard to actually use this information for my magazine, I also think I could of
expanded more in the questions as some of the answers that I got said stuff like , depends
what magazine therefore if I had explained more then I could potentially got an extra proper
answers that I could actually use to benefit my work. Overall I think using a survey worked
well for mu magazine as it gave me some quick and easy answers that I needed to know
while still being able to ask more in depth questions. I will definitely use these answers to
benefit and change my work as at the end of the day my audience are the people that will
hopefully be buying it therefore their opinions matter when it comes to the actual making of
the magazine.
24. Subject Research
• Head photographer for ‘Rolling Stone’ Anna-Lou Leibovitz was born on October 2, 1949 , in Waterbury,
Connecticut. In 1967 , Anna enrolled at San Francisco Art Institute, where she started of studying painting
she developed a love for photography. Well known covers for ‘Vanity Fair’ in 1983, Anna left Rolling Stone
and began working for Vanity Fair, known for her ability to make her models become more physically
involved in her work for example another of her famous portraits was Keith Haring who painted himself
like a canvas for the photo. Anna is well known for her dramatic, quirky and iconic photographic portraits
of celebrities. Every picture she takes has a story, a meaning and I think that is what drew me towards her
work as all her photos are individuals and create a different story all together. Anna is very well known and
some call her the best photographer in all of America and I think that this really shows in her pictures and
different editing ideas that she has encountered with. From interviews Anna has consistently talked about
her photography experiences and how she uses the camera and she often relates back to the fact that she
likes the make each image personal and alterred to the model and I think that this works really well as
with a lot of big photographers the main problem is that they become very attached to one style and type
of photography whereas with Anna she does usually stay in the same category however it brings a
completely different vibe and photograph in general. I think that Anna Leibovitz is a very big inspiration to
my work and out of enjoyment as her photos are genuinely different and interesting and this motivates
and inspires me to want to create my own work that is different and cool to look at and admire. Just from
looking at some of the images that she has previously created I feel very invigorated to create my own
work and I have definitely taken some inspiration from some of the images on the previous slide.
25. Subject Research
I think that this photo is initially
very rough and almost a very
unplanned picture but the more
you look the image is very
interesting. Here we can see the
edge of the screen behind the
model.
The overall background and
colour scheme colour is a very
muted yellow/cream and I think
that this works well as it makes
it have a more rustic theme.
For this picture she has overlaid a
smaller picture of the model on top
and I think that this works well and
looks very interesting without
taking too much attention away
from the main model in the photo.
You can really see the outline of the
other picture and the full body which
works well as in the main image it is
only a head shot while displaying the
full body picture. I think that this
overall looks good as it all blends in
well and nothing stands out too much.
The colour scheme is a very neutral
yellow/creams and I think that this
works well as it gives an older vibe
almost as if this was actually an old
photograph, it also have a slight
theme of the colours being related
to a painting, from research I know
that Annie often gets her models
to paint themselves and she will
either take photos of them
painting or a photo side by side
with the art.
The models clothing is very
basic and natural, she has also
tied in the gold jewelry which
keeps in the theme of yellows
and faded colours.
Annie shot Kendrick for the cover, partnered with a piece that her long time friend and
colleague, the journalist Lisa Robinson. This image from the book Annie Leibovitz At
Work , presents a kind of inner vision of this hugely introspective into the world of rap
and music. It’s a basic shot that ranks alongside her images of mick and john, in which
she captures the voice of new generation. In my opinion I think that this image works
really well and is a simple/basic image that can be interpreted in many different ways, I
also think that the retro/ artsy vibes work well with the ‘new generation’ of people like
rappers and hip hop artists.
27. Practical Research
I decided to have a go and create an experiment that I haven't tried before to really
experiment with different types of photography that I could possibly use for my own
actual work. For my experiments I decided to try have a go with a slow exposure and
moving photos as I have never had ago with this style of photography however I have
seen a lot of it used in my research , to do this I first played around with the camera
settings to make the camera take the photographs the way I wanted. I started with the
shutter speed of the camera which I changed from 1/60 to 4/1 then I changed the
aperture from F/2.8 to F/6.8 and I kept the ISO speed at 100. I think that this worked
well as it meant that when I took the photos of Imogen whipping her hair around it
didn’t come out as a blur it came out as a very slow captured photo, because this is my
experiments I didn’t really have a clear plan of what I was wanting to do but I think that
this worked well as it really gave me some good inspiration and information about
things I will need to know for my actual production. In these bottom pictures you can
see that I used a range of lights pointing in different directions and I think this works
well as it means that there are no shadows in the background which is a big issue when
it comes to the editing of it.
28. Practical Research
I really struggled when it came to the editing
of these pictures as I just initially thought that
I wanted to make it black and white theme
however when it actually came to it I didn’t
know what shade or style of black and white
so I decided to do a wide range and then save
them and decided after which one I opt for.
For each of these images I played around with
all the different settings and each picture
looks completely different and I think that this
works well with the image I have chosen.
Originally when I first looked back at the edits
I had made my favourite was the last one
which is the darkest out of all of them and I
really enjoy the overall appearance however
on a more intense look I found that I had just
kind of created a silhouette of the model and
you couldn't’t really see any of the details or
the specific bits that I changed to make the
image different therefore I then decided to
with the one where it is still black and white
but it is a lot softer and lighter and you can
really see all the details in the models hair and
face which I think works well. I think that the
black and white works better with this photo
as it really defines and brings out certain parts
and I think that this works well as in one sense
this is a boring photo however the final image
that I created and edited has a lot going on in
my opinion.
30. Practical Research
For this experiment I used a Photoshop tutorial of YouTube
to help me to create this cut up photo effect. Firstly I copied
the image into 2 different layers and then used the selection
tool and then remarked the photo with a white background
on one layer then did the same on the other layer but with a
black background. Then I masked the layers so that the
outside part would stay white when I move the individual
parts the white is there instead of the models head, I then
used the selection tool to select thin rectangles on the
models face as this is what the tutorial did however I
decided to use a lot thinner rectangles than the video as I
think that this worked better and really shows the effect
more and adds a more dramatic effect rather than just
moving one rectangle on the eye part of the models head. I
think that this experiment worked well however there could
definitely be improved overall but this really taught me a
few new things that I think I could potentially use when it
comes to my actual production as I'm still not sure what
kind of editing I will be using in my magazine cover however
I think me trying this experiment was very helpful as I have
got to learn new skills that I didn’t know before for example
masking some things in Photoshop. I think that this worked
well however if I were to do it again to make it better I
would spend more time on each of the individual sections
as the videos end product looked a lot more professional.

If you do any additional subject research, record that here. This might be most relevant if you are producing a magazine or a documentary but even a fiction trailer might require some additional research in to a particular subject.
Getting some background information on your subject would be a really good idea.
Find some resources, log them, read them and write something about them.

Undertaking practical research is another great way to improve your project. Experimenting with techniques, equipment and processes you might want to use in you project will help you plan for the future.
Think about what you will research. It could be studio photography, or sound recording, or post-production techniques for video or animation techniques for a video game. Tutorials are useful here.
Make something similar but unrelated to your chosen idea.
Do not make it a version of your final product; it is an experiment
Provide a reflection of the processes you used and how it has been useful.
Don’t do something that you already know how to do.
