Existing Product
Empire is off a similar magazine style of which I will chose to make my
product, as it bases it on being around about film reviews, which is kind
of the style of which I am planning to base my product upon. I will base
my product around this by having a kind of film review based double
page spread. In the empire magazines they mainly use the idea of
tending to use more of a darker colour scheme in my magazine cover as I
believe it will look better than if it was lighter colours as, by having my
double page spread based around a lighter colour scheme, it will look
better and there will be a colour contrast.
I believe that my target audience for my final production is also similar to
the empire magazine, as it is more of a formal film magazine and I would
say that the age audience would be around 15-50. As at the age of 15 is
normally the age as which u would start to take interest in these style of
magazines and 50 is the age of which you would normally lose interest in
these types of magazine.
Existing Product
Total film- this magazine uses the idea of having an enlarged main image
as the front cover, but it also includes the idea of having different images
around the edge of my magazine cover, this is an excellent idea because it
helps to give a sense of what is included in the magazine, such as posters of
reviews. This is something that I would definitely like to include in my
magazine production, as it helps to give a sense of what is actually used in
the magazine also I believe it will interrege my audience more. This film
magazine also includes the idea of having the main image to me more of a
centre shot which I believe, draws the eye of the audience more., especially
with the idea off it being more high key lighting it also helps to attract the
audience more. It makes its audience want to buy the magazine from the
way that they have positioned their front cover with the more high key
lighting, large centre image and the information around the sides, this draws
the audience in more and makes them want to buy it.
Existing Product
Crime- this magazine style is of a based on a particular film
genres and that is of crime, so the whole magazine is based upon
the style of crime films/programs. This gives the magazine a very
specific audience, as the audience is clearly aimed at people who
would watch crime films and only really this type of audience
because somebody who was more into romance base films
wouldn’t be interested in this style of film magazine they would
be interested in magazines that where more about romance films.
The front cover of the magazine attracts the audience and makes
them want to buy it more from the colour scheme that is used and
also the style of which the cover is presented by the way how
there is only one main image and it is of a detective and also the
way that that they background is very dark and murky which kind
of makes it suspicious and gives it a kind of crime feeling.
Existing Product
This is a more older style of magazine, which can be shown
by the main centre image. The main centre image is of a sci
fi film and in particular of an older style. From the main
image of being a character from a sci fi it gives the general
sense that, the main part of the magazine is going to be
based upon that particular sci fi film as the image is very
large and centre shot, with the camera being focused upon
his upper body in particular some more towards his face and
the weapon in his hand, as it helps to emphasise who he is
more. Around the edge of the front cover, the lighting is
more on the darker side and more behind the character the
lighting is slightly more lighter, so that they eye is more
drawn towards the centre image. It makes its audience want
to buy it, from the way of which it has a popular character
upon the front cover and it is positioned so that it is one of
the main things that you look at.
Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have?
– From my researched products they all have some common features that
have been included in all of them. One of the main features that all of my
researched products have in common and that is the idea of that they are
all have the same target audience in some way or another.
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work?
• From my researched products I will be including the idea of using the same kind
of target audience, as I believe it is a good target audience to aim my work upon
also it is an very similar style of which I am planning to already aim my target
audience at.
Questionnaire Analysis
CALEB WILCOX
Audience research
• Observation:from this I can make the observation that people would much rather that the
magazine was to be able to be viewed on a hard copy than for it to be viewed online.
• What this says about my audience:From this it says that my audience is
slightly more of the older kind, or of those who prefer to be able to read a magazine as a hard copy.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will
appeal to its audience as I am already planning to make my product as a hard copy, as it is more
interactive towards the audience, this makes my product appeal to my audience as majority are in
favour of a hard copy magazine rather it being online. But I will also be making my magazine into an
online copy at some point.
Audience research
• Observation: From this I can make the observation that people believe that my target audience would
be around 15-25 on the majority and also 25-35.
• What this says about my audience:From this, it says about my audience that they are
going to be of a younger age range, which is slightly odd as, majority voted for my magazine too be based
around a hard copy.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: My product appeals to this
audience because the age range that people have chosen, is the age range of which I wanted to work on aiming
my audience at, around 15-35.
Audience research
• Observation: From this I can make the observation that people would much rather that that my
magazine would be based around, action film genre.
• What this says about my audience:this says from my audience that they much more
prefer the idea of watching films that are a lot more action based, rather than it being something like a
romance/crime.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to the
audience because I am planning on making my magazine with the specific genre of actions films.
Audience research
• Observation: From this I can make the observation that there is an even number split between the
people who wanted 1-2 pages in the article and 3-4 pages in the article.
• What this says about my audience: this says from my audience that they prefer the
magazine styles that aren’t too long that they take forever to read, they prefer something that is short and
sweat.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to this
audience because, I am planning on making my magazine too only be 4 pages long at an maximum, which will
also be including the advertisement posters I am also planning on including in it.
Audience research
• Observation:from this I can make the observation that, people would rather have the idea of an even
amount of text and images included in my magazine production.
• What this says about my audience: from this it says about my audience that, they would
rather the idea of having an even amount of images and text in my magazine.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to this
audience because I am planning on already having the idea of using an even amount of text and images, so that
this helps to include more material into my magazine and the material is more built up.
Audience research
• Observation: from this I can make the observation that people prefer the idea of reading/viewing film
magazines and also some prefer gaming magazines, but the majority prefer the idea of film magazines.
• What this says about my audience: From this I can see that my audience prefer to read
film magazines over the other styles of magazine, which kind of gives the sense that my target audience isn’t
that young as you think, or they could be but just like the idea of film magazines.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to this
audience because I am already planning on making a film magazine, so this will relate to the majority of this
audience who chose the preference of film magazines.
Audience research
• Observation: From this I can make the observation that everybody has chosen the idea to be In
favour of the magazine to be 2-3 pages long.
• What this says about my audience: what this says about my audience is that
they like the idea of having a short and sweat magazine that gets the basis of being straight to the
point. For the magazine to be 2-3 pages long, they must like the idea of having slightly smaller text, so
that more information can be fitted on each page.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will
appeal to this audience because I am aiming on making my magazine to be 3-4 pages long as it will also
be including the idea of posters in my magazine which is why it will be 4 pages long at a maximum, I
suspect that the last two pages will be based upon being film posters.
Audience research
• Observation: from this I can make the observation that my in some way everyone has chosen the idea
that there should be film advertisement posters in film magazines.
• What this says about my audience: from looking at this it is clearly saying that my
audience on a whole prefer the idea off having film advertisement posters in the magazine.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to this
audience because I am already planning on including film advertisement posters in my magazine, but not so
many that my magazine is nearly all based on posters, at the most I will be including two film posters in my film
magazine, this will help to appeal to my audience.
Audience research
• Observation: From this I can make the observation that people would rather the idea of having a dark
background.
• What this says about my audience: From this I can tell that my audience would rather the
idea of me having a darker background on my magazine
• How will your product appeal to this audience: my product will appeal to this
audience because I am planning and intending to make the cover of my magazine to be kind of on the darker
side and then for me to have a more lighter double page spread, which will also help to create contrast.
Interviews
CALEB WILCOX
Interview 1
• “what would you like to see in an film magazine? Why?”
• In a film magazine I would like to see the idea of good quantitate material and
detailed material, I would also expect to see the idea of having some form of film
advertisement posters, as this on a whole helps to build up the content of the
magazine and also this helps as you are able to see and find out the release
dates of the new films. One particular thing that I would want to see in a film
magazine is the included idea that you have detailed information based upon a
certain film, but one that is popular at the minute so that people are more likely
to read it and take interest.
• “
Interview 1
• Observation:From this magazine I can make the observation that
magazines are more preferred to have good quality in them.
• What this says about my audience: this tells me that
my audience prefer the idea of having a magazine with good amount of material
in it, such material like film posters that advertise set films of a specific genre.
• How will your product appeal to this
audience: my product in some way will appeal to this audience because I
am planning to make my film magazine as detailed as I can within the space that
I have on my double page spread, I will also be including two or at least one film
advertisement poster within my film magazine.
Interview 2
• “what is your favourite type of film magazine? Why?”
My favourite type of film magazine would have to be ‘Empire’ as it varies
on the type of films that they talk about and they talk about a specific
genre, which helps to appeal to a specific audience that like that particular
genre and as from the way of which the front cover of the magazine looks
like it helps to draw in that specific audience from that one type of aimed
genre.
Interview 2
• Observation: from this I can make the observation that people like the
idea of having a magazine where they focus on different genres, in particular the
magazine ‘Empire’ as in there magazines they tend to have a section where they
focus on one particular film/genre of film.
• What this says about my audience: from this I can tell
that this audience prefer the idea of having a film magazine that has an area
where it is based upon a specific film genre of some sort and to have an area in
the magazine where it focuses on one set film and that specific genre of which
the film is based in.
• How will your product appeal to this
audience: My product will appeal to this audience because I am planning
on my double page spread being around the idea of being based upon a specific
film genre and also I am including outstanding assets too accompany based
around that one set film.
Audience Profile
Category Demographic Content to appeal to this audience
Age Range
15-35 • The content that will appeal to this target
audience is the the fact that I am making it
on a film magazine and in particular action
genre.
Gender
Male and female • My magazine is based towards male and
female audience, as there isn’t really
anything that disquinshes it into a specific
audience, because everyone has
preferences on there favoured genre of
film.
Psychographic
Interested in
action based films
• As my magazine and accessory material is
based around action films, they would
have to have some form of interest in
action films.
Social Status
Middle class • my final production is going to be more
based towards middle class as of the style
and accessory material I am including.
Research Evaluation
Research Evaluation
• Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the
strengths and weaknesses of each method
– Product Research
• My product research was based around the idea of looking at already focused products
and comparing them to how I plan mine to look like. I believe it was good as it was
more focused research onto one already existing set product and being able too
compare it to how you would like your set product to look.
– Questionnaires
• I believe that the questioners where good to use as it involved the set idea off being
able to get peoples exact opinions on your ideas for your product and also what they
would like to see in my product. One downside of it in my opinion is that its aimed
around several peoples opinion and not just one person.
– Interviews
I prefer interviews more, as it is specifically aiming it towards one persons opinion rather
than several peoples opinions, therefore you are getting a much more aimed and focused
response, rather than getting several peoples responses and them being not as focused
responses.
Research Evaluation
– What sort of a response did you get?
I believe that on a whole I got good responses from my different methods of research
especially when it comes to the idea of, the survey questions and the interviews as I was
able to get peoples opinions of what they would like to see in my final production and
what would make it appear better. So therefore the responses that I received where
focused and good ones.
– How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage
– When it came to distributing my survey I did so by, sending to people via email and
also sending the link to people via messages, so they would follow the link and
complete the survey, one disadvantage of this is that you can’t guarantee that they
will have completed the survey.

2. fmp research

  • 2. Existing Product Empire is off a similar magazine style of which I will chose to make my product, as it bases it on being around about film reviews, which is kind of the style of which I am planning to base my product upon. I will base my product around this by having a kind of film review based double page spread. In the empire magazines they mainly use the idea of tending to use more of a darker colour scheme in my magazine cover as I believe it will look better than if it was lighter colours as, by having my double page spread based around a lighter colour scheme, it will look better and there will be a colour contrast. I believe that my target audience for my final production is also similar to the empire magazine, as it is more of a formal film magazine and I would say that the age audience would be around 15-50. As at the age of 15 is normally the age as which u would start to take interest in these style of magazines and 50 is the age of which you would normally lose interest in these types of magazine.
  • 3. Existing Product Total film- this magazine uses the idea of having an enlarged main image as the front cover, but it also includes the idea of having different images around the edge of my magazine cover, this is an excellent idea because it helps to give a sense of what is included in the magazine, such as posters of reviews. This is something that I would definitely like to include in my magazine production, as it helps to give a sense of what is actually used in the magazine also I believe it will interrege my audience more. This film magazine also includes the idea of having the main image to me more of a centre shot which I believe, draws the eye of the audience more., especially with the idea off it being more high key lighting it also helps to attract the audience more. It makes its audience want to buy the magazine from the way that they have positioned their front cover with the more high key lighting, large centre image and the information around the sides, this draws the audience in more and makes them want to buy it.
  • 4. Existing Product Crime- this magazine style is of a based on a particular film genres and that is of crime, so the whole magazine is based upon the style of crime films/programs. This gives the magazine a very specific audience, as the audience is clearly aimed at people who would watch crime films and only really this type of audience because somebody who was more into romance base films wouldn’t be interested in this style of film magazine they would be interested in magazines that where more about romance films. The front cover of the magazine attracts the audience and makes them want to buy it more from the colour scheme that is used and also the style of which the cover is presented by the way how there is only one main image and it is of a detective and also the way that that they background is very dark and murky which kind of makes it suspicious and gives it a kind of crime feeling.
  • 5. Existing Product This is a more older style of magazine, which can be shown by the main centre image. The main centre image is of a sci fi film and in particular of an older style. From the main image of being a character from a sci fi it gives the general sense that, the main part of the magazine is going to be based upon that particular sci fi film as the image is very large and centre shot, with the camera being focused upon his upper body in particular some more towards his face and the weapon in his hand, as it helps to emphasise who he is more. Around the edge of the front cover, the lighting is more on the darker side and more behind the character the lighting is slightly more lighter, so that they eye is more drawn towards the centre image. It makes its audience want to buy it, from the way of which it has a popular character upon the front cover and it is positioned so that it is one of the main things that you look at.

For the magazine to be 2-3 pages long, they must like the idea of having slightly smaller text, so that more information can be fitted on each page. • How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to this audience because I am aiming on making my magazine to be 3-4 pages long as it will also be including the idea of posters in my magazine which is why it will be 4 pages long at a maximum, I suspect that the last two pages will be based upon being film posters.

  • 18. Interview 1 • “what would you like to see in an film magazine? Why?” • In a film magazine I would like to see the idea of good quantitate material and detailed material, I would also expect to see the idea of having some form of film advertisement posters, as this on a whole helps to build up the content of the magazine and also this helps as you are able to see and find out the release dates of the new films. One particular thing that I would want to see in a film magazine is the included idea that you have detailed information based upon a certain film, but one that is popular at the minute so that people are more likely to read it and take interest. • “

Why?” My favourite type of film magazine would have to be ‘Empire’ as it varies on the type of films that they talk about and they talk about a specific genre, which helps to appeal to a specific audience that like that particular genre and as from the way of which the front cover of the magazine looks like it helps to draw in that specific audience from that one type of aimed genre.
  • 21. Gender Male and female • My magazine is based towards male and female audience, as there isn’t really anything that disquinshes it into a specific audience, because everyone has preferences on there favoured genre of film. Psychographic Interested in action based films • As my magazine and accessory material is based around action films, they would have to have some form of interest in action films. Social Status Middle class • my final production is going to be more based towards middle class as of the style and accessory material I am including.
  • 24. Research Evaluation • Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each method – Product Research • My product research was based around the idea of looking at already focused products and comparing them to how I plan mine to look like. I believe it was good as it was more focused research onto one already existing set product and being able too compare it to how you would like your set product to look. – Questionnaires • I believe that the questioners where good to use as it involved the set idea off being able to get peoples exact opinions on your ideas for your product and also what they would like to see in my product. One downside of it in my opinion is that its aimed around several peoples opinion and not just one person. – Interviews I prefer interviews more, as it is specifically aiming it towards one persons opinion rather than several peoples opinions, therefore you are getting a much more aimed and focused response, rather than getting several peoples responses and them being not as focused responses.
  • 25. Research Evaluation – What sort of a response did you get? I believe that on a whole I got good responses from my different methods of research especially when it comes to the idea of, the survey questions and the interviews as I was able to get peoples opinions of what they would like to see in my final production and what would make it appear better. So therefore the responses that I received where focused and good ones. – How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage – When it came to distributing my survey I did so by, sending to people via email and also sending the link to people via messages, so they would follow the link and complete the survey, one disadvantage of this is that you can’t guarantee that they will have completed the survey.
