The document provides an evaluation of a music video production process. It discusses the strengths and weaknesses of the various stages of production, including research, planning, time management, technical qualities, aesthetic qualities, audience appeal, and peer feedback. Some key points summarized:
- Research of other music videos became irrelevant when the creator's music changed. Better to have a song idea first.
- Planning helped organize ideas but had to be redone when the idea changed halfway through. Should have stuck with the final idea from the start.
- Time management was good initially but less time was available after changing the idea late. More time would have allowed for a better final product.
- Peer feedback noted the variety of
3. RESEARCH
We did case studies as our research.
A strength of this is that you are able to have a look at
different music videos to help get a good idea of the
different features I could include into my own music
video.
A weakness of doing the case studies is with it being one
of the first things you do, your ideas may change and the
research could become irrelevant. This happened with
me as my music has changed and the features I had
researched are now not relevant. I didn’t have a song
idea when I started the research so to have improved I
should have been more prepared and thought of my
song before doing my research.
4. PLANNING
A strength of planning is that a mind map helps you put
everything you have put into one place and see what will
work best, doing this helped me plan my music video as
it let me see what ideas were easier and more practical to
make. It also helped to narrow down the different ideas
to get me down to the idea I wanted to make.
A weakness I had was because I changed my idea half
way through this meant I had to change all my planning,
the effect this would have had is that is took up more
time and took me longer to complete as I had to restart.
To improve this I should have had the final idea from the
start to stop this from happening.
5. TIME MANAGEMENT
In the start of the project I think I managed my time well
however because I didn’t have a final idea from the start
it made it harder for me to do some of the slide so when
I finally decided my idea I had to go back and change
some the production process, leaving me less time to
complete my filming and production. Although this
happened I think I have used the spare time I have to
complete all of the work to a good standard and will get
it all in on time. I do think that my products would
improve if I had additional time but I have happy with
how this product has turned out.
Having more time would have given me longer to have
thought of my final idea and I would have made my
product to a better standard than it already is.
6. TECHNICAL QUALITIES -
CAMERA
The left is the official video and the right is my music video
• A similarity of this shot is that it is same idea, they are both sunsets
with the song being called “sunset lover” I think the song needs to
include one to help it link with the name.
• It is also similar because my first shot of my music video is a panning
video of a sunset and it is the same from the official video creating a
similarity between the two.
• From these two screenshots you can see that a difference in colour
scheme, in the official music video the colours are dark and orange
whereas my music video is lighter, this suggests different themes
from each videos.
• The official video also gives you an idea of surroundings as you can
see cars and the setting where the shot is being taken. With my
music video you just see the sky which doesn’t give any idea where
7. TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
EDITING/POST
• In sunset lover there is little clips where it isn’t filmed on a
professional camera and looks less professional and more like a
video diary throughout the video. I did this in my music video, I
filmed me and my friends on my. This type of shot is hand held and
makes the video more fun and less important.
• The difference between the to images is the scenery and colour
scheme seen on the videos.
• You can see that in the original video that it is him outside whilst he
is walking around, he is also on his own during the hand held shots.
Whereas in my music video it is set at a fair, this gives our music
videos different themes. I also include myself and my friends which
makes it more different but more fun.
• The colour schemes in the 2 videos are different as well, my music
8. AESTHETIC
QUALITIES
• Overall I think my music video was creative and looked good.
• I like all the bright colours seen throughout the video as I think it
makes the music video look more exciting and fun for the audience.
• Some of my clips used throughout the music video are bad quality I
would improve this by filming more footage to avoid this from
happening as I think it ruins my video. This is my fault as I did not film
enough footage and had to use this as I didn't’t have anything else to
use.
• To improve my whole video I should have filmed more footage as I
think this would have made the process of making my video a lot
easier.
• A strength of the music video is that it is fun, colourful and exciting for
the audience watching it.
9. AUDIENCE
APPEAL
My music video will appeal to the target audience of people who
enjoy fun and more hand held music videos.
I also think it will appeal to people who listen to Petit Biscuit or enjoy
listening to music with no words or lyrics.
With my music video being colourful and showing many different
colours throughout the video I think this will appeal to the people
enjoy the fun side of the music video, something that isn’t serious
and don’t need to pay much attention to understand what is going
on.
The song for my music video is by Petit Biscuit as this will appeal to
people who enjoy his music as it is something they will be interested
in watching meaning they will enjoy it.

14. PEER FEEDBACK
SUMMARY
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I agree with the lighting seen on the video is effective as it helps to
make the video look bright and exciting.
I also agree with the good scenery for my music as being at the fair
makes the video more exciting and interesting for the audience.
I agree with the improvements needed to be made as I think I ruined
my music video by including the bad quality footage.
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I disagree with the footage needed to be filmed in HD as I think other
than the footage of my friends the rest of my video is filmed in good
quality.
15. PEER FEEDBACK
SUMMARY
The main feedback I got for my music video is about the quality
in footage. This is a change I should have made whilst filming as
I should of filmed extra footage just in case any of my footage
didn't’t turn out right like it did. The footage I used in my music
video is grainy and looks a little bit out of focus. I didn’t film any
other footage so I included it making it look bad compared to
the rest of my footage.
This tells me that next time I do filming like to make sure I film
more footage than I need to stop any bad footage being used.
