3. RESEARCH
With my research I was already knowledgeable about the
genre of music I wanted to use, and I was especially
knowledgeable about the band Oasis, which was the band I
had in mind to use.
The strengths of my planning were that I went into detail
when writing about the videos as I know that would help my
knowledge on what types of artists/music genres use
different conventions, which would hopefully influence my
video in a way. Another strength of my research was that I
already had a good idea on what I wanted to do which
allowed me to focus on certain aspects which I knew would
help me.
The weaknesses in my research was that I didn’t analyse
different genres as I felt that doing other genres wouldn’t
help, however other genres use different types of
techniques compared to indie/britpop. Therefore, it
would’ve allowed me to develop a better knowledge of what
music videos use and allowed me to use other
conventions/techniques than the typical ones of a indie
song.
4. PLANNING
The strengths of my planning was that I already had a
good idea on what I wanted to make, so it was more of a
case of bringing my ideas to life, which was easier said
than done; this helped my product by allowing to film
straight away without really thinking about it and since I
joined late it was really helpful already having an idea on
what to film. Another strength of my planning was that I
went into detail with my storyboarding etc. because it
helped me when I had to refer back to my storyboard; if
it was in little detail then I would have struggled on what
to film and when.
The weaknesses of my planning was that I only planned
enough shots to meet the song time exactly, and some
clips just didn’t fit the song so I found myself going out
to film extra clips on a time limit. To improve this I
should have over filmed and done a longer plan for a
back up plan. I think this would have improved my
product because I wouldn’t have had to rush getting
extra footage.
5. TIME MANAGEMENT
With the challenged I faced with joining late, I think I
managed time very well and I did complete my music
video on time. However, it was not the video I had
originally planned on making as I used a fair bit of stock
footage, which ruined the aesthetic look of the video but
it was on time and decent.
I think if I joined the course at the same time as everyone
else then I would have created a much better video, but
that also comes down to not planning enough footage as
well.
If I had more time to produce my work I would’ve liked to
do a stop motion animation as I think it would have
looked really good, and I would’ve done some filming
with lip syncing as well.
6. TECHNICAL QUALITIES -
CAMERA
I filmed my video with an Iphone and used a fisheye and a Marco
lens for the majority of the clips, which I think added a nice look
to the video instead of using the standard camera of the phone.
Some of the clips in my video are blurry, but I could not make
them go back to a normal quality like the rest, which was the only
problem I had with the filming of my video.
7. TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
EDITING/POST
In the editing process, I used many transitions such as gradient
swipes and used some video filters like black and white; the
different transitions and effects all worked well together, and I
didn’t over use them as I think that ruins it. The majority of my
clips are just cut together because from my research I found
that most videos from the late 80s/90s do not use transitions
just cuts to each clip, so I tried to stick to the vibe of the video.
I did want to do a stop motion animation, however I didn’t have
the time to fit it in, which I thought would have been a nice
addition to the music video and would’ve filled some time.
8. AESTHETIC QUALITIES
The majority of my shots are aesthetic shots so I have tried to
make them look as good as possible by adding filters on apps
through my phone or through video effects on the editing
software. I think my video aesthetically looks good as I think it
fits the 90s vibe that I was trying to achieve, which was down to
my research and analysis of videos, especially by Oasis.
The planning of my video would suggest I would have a mini
narrative running through it, however as I ran out of time to
submit my video I ended up doing a aesthetic video, which still
fits the vibe of the video and the plan to a degree.
9. AUDIENCE APPEAL
The target audience of the video is for 16-24 year olds, which
is the same for Oasis so it links nicely with what I wanted to
achieve. I think this video would appeal to fans of Oasis as the
message of the actual Morning Glory video was to live whilst
you are young and the lyrics imply drug use; I have tried to
implicitly link drug use into my video with the psychedelic
videos towards the end of the video, but the main message was
the same with videos of the cast walking and showing that they
are living their life by going out and enjoying life.
11. FEEDBACK 1 - LILY
What did you like about the product?
I liked how the video started and ended the same way with the record
needle being put on and taken off.
I like how it focused on one person throughout.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
I think the video needed to be more connected together with a
storyline.
12. FEEDBACK 2 – ERIN
What did you like about the product?
I like the link at the start and finish with the record coming on and
off.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
I think it needs to improve by having something to link it all together
instead of clips just thrown together, like a storyline.
13. FEEDBACK 3 – ELLIE
What did you like about the product?
Good quality visuals with the use of different lenses.
The video reflects on the lyrics
I like the link between the start and end with the vinyl – links to the
time when the song was released.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
Don’t leave clips in for too long – especially stock footage
Needed a storyline to link it together
Needs more people – more variety
14. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I agree with everything that was said on my peer feedback
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I disagree with nothing that was said as everything that was mainly
said I would’ve done if I had more time.
