The document describes the production process of a music video. It discusses the planning, research, time management, technical qualities, aesthetic qualities, audience appeal, and peer feedback of the project. For the planning, the individual was able to execute the planned scenes but did not plan editing time well. Research helped with understanding genre conventions but editing style was changed from original plan. Time management and learning the editing software were challenges. Peer feedback praised the video's message, landscapes, and subtitles but noted transitions could be improved. The individual agreed transitions needed work based on the feedback.
3. RESEARCH
My research was very important for the finished product because while I
looked at examples of what I might wanted to do, I had several ideas that
ended up in the finished project. My research also helped me understand
the genre conventions of my chosen song, from lighting to angle camera
shots and editing and apply that to my music video alongside with my
own style of filming and editing.
One thing that didn’t went as well in my project was my editing
planning, I ended up doing my editing different than what I had
imagined because when I tried to apply what I planned it didn’t look as I
hoped it would and I had to change it; so, I would say I should have
researched better the editing styles that would go well with my project
and used better my time to experiment with it, this would have made the
video closer to my expectations.
4. PLANNING
I was able to execute well all the scenes I had planned; the scenes were
easy to make but they made sense to the message of the song and
worked well when put together. The planning was essential to my project
because if I hadn’t planned all the scenes in advance and put a visual
example in my planning, I could have forgotten what my idea for the
scene was and all could come out different than I had imagined; Not
only different but also not convey the message I wanted.
Although the planning of my scenes went well, my editing time wasn’t
well planned, and I almost ran out of time to edit the basics of my video.
If I had planned better my editing time, perhaps I could have had more
time to add different elements to my video, and thus making the video
more complete.
5. TIME MANAGEMENT
I wasn’t able to manage my time as well as I hoped, the editing took
longer than I had predicted, and I had some issues with Premiere Pro
because I didn’t know how to use it well. Although I finished my project
in time and liked the finished product, I believe if I had more time to
experiment with different techniques and filters, the finished video
would be better.
One thing that I would’ve done if I had more time to work on my video
is make sure that every single video in my project is original footage, I
had to take footage from the internet because the initial ideas I had for
some parts of the video ended up not working so because I didn’t have
time to film anymore, I had to use other people's footage.
Another thing I would have done if I had time is put more filters in some
of the footage, like, for example, a VHS filter on scene 8.
6. TECHNICAL QUALITIES -
CAMERA
Good natural light
Clear view of the trees and the
sky with a rainbow
Good movement of camera
moving between the bridge and
the sky
Nice view of the entire scene, all
visible in one shot
7. TECHNICAL QUALITIES -
CAMERA
Good view, all the buildings visible
Nice movement of camera showing the
bridge and then the river and the buildings
Beautiful natural sunlight
Good image quality
9. TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
EDITING/POST
Beautiful font
Good font placement, it’s big enough to
read but still allow the footage to be seen
clearly
Font was edited to appear word
by word as the singers sing
them
Font has subtle shading
for it to be easy to read
10. TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
EDITING/POST
Custom effect, mix of saturation (162.3)
and vibrance (62.3)
Scenes cut to the beat
(beginning of sentences)
Warp stabilizer applied to make
the shoots look smoother
11. AESTHETIC QUALITIES
I liked the way my work looked at the end, all the elements worked well
together, including the font used for the lyrics and the filter applied to the
footage, all followed a certain theme; I made sure everything I applied to my
project had a vivid look; for example, I customised the filter that was applied to
the footage and I installed a new font to Adobe, one that would better match my
project. Although my video didn’t have exotic elements, I believe it was creative
and unique because it was made in my own style of filming and editing.
If I had time I would have improved the filters, I only used one and I wish I had
used more; another thing I would have improved is use only original footage.
Strengths Weaknesses
• Good editing for beginners experience; • Not all footage is original;
• Footage; • Transitions are not as smooth as I wanted;
• Lighting. • Some of the videos are shaky even after
applying warp stabilizer.
12. AESTHETIC QUALITIES
Vivid
Nature – Water, earth, rain, plants,
flowers, trees, rocks, rainbow, park
Sunlight
Blue sky
Religious building
Combined with the lyrics,
these elements build a
happy, vivid theme,
showing the beauty in the
nature and people in it; I
would describe the
aesthetic of this music
video as being “the
beauty and colours of
happiness in nature and
life” and “the beauty love
gives to life”.
Old buildings
and structures
13. AUDIENCE APPEAL
My music video was not directed to a specific audience, my idea was that it
would be appealing for a wide age range; and this is because throughout the
video, people of different ages were shown, I did this intentionally because I
wanted that everyone could identify with the song and create a connection
between their personal lives and the music video and thus making them enjoy it
more.
All the elements are arranged to make the audience have a feeling of happiness
and possibly nostalgia; my intention when making the video is that people would
watch it and smile, because I put things like lots of nature, vivid colours, people
smiling, people having fun, etc.
14. AUDIENCE APPEAL
People of diverse ages and dress
styles
Everyone dressed in
vivid colours, such
as red and blue
15. AUDIENCE APPEAL
Lots of nature elements,
sunshine, rainbow, water,
sea; all being presented in a
vivid and “happy” filter.
17. FEEDBACK 1 – VERONICA
COLASANTO
What did you like about the product?
It's fresh, happy, young, the song's message.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
General editing, transitions.
18. FEEDBACK 2 – MARIA
EDUARDA
What did you like about the product?
I really liked the vibe that the clip brings, a vibe of peace, also liked
the music and the landscapes that the clip shows.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
Particularly would not improve anything, I liked everything that was
presented.
19. FEEDBACK 3 – FREYA
DAWSON
What did you like about the product?
I loved the editing and the subtitles.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
The actors on scene 12 are being really awkward.
20. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
→ What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I agree that the video is fresh and happy, that the video brings a peace vibe, the
landscapes are beautiful, the song has a good message, and the subtitles are good
looking.
I also agree that the transitions could be better.
→ What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I don’t think the actors being awkward on scene 12 is a bad thing, they being
awkward makes it more realistic because I wanted to represent the feeling of young,
new love.
21. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
After reading the peer feedback I came to the conclusion that I should have
worked more on my transitions, they do not look smooth, they stop too
brusquely. If I had made the transitions more clean, the video would have looked
better, it would have looked like it is continuous, like it is all one footage,
instead of pauses between scenes.
