3. Research
• I think one of the strengths of my research was that I talked about a range of different
products in depth and in a large amount of detail discussing all the key parts of the videos
that I will need to focus on when making mine. This allowed me to discover a wide range
of different ideas and because I focused on looking at artists that made music similar to
the song I was making a video on the ideas that I found where very useful in the creation
of mine because they were extremely similar to the theme of my song. This meant I was
able to mix my ideas with ideas I had found when researching to create complete new
ones that were different but also suited the theme of my music video.
• I think the weaknesses of my research was that I didn’t fully complete my experiment,
this meant I didn’t get to test all the ideas that I wanted to and possibly meant that I
missed out on others in the later creation of my product because I didnt get to test
features on my experiments.
4. Planning
• I think one of the strength's of my planning was that I already had a
rough idea of what I wanted to do and what I thought might work. This
meant I didn't waste any time at the start and could straight away start
to write my ideas down and plan what I wanted to do. I think this helped
to make my product more appealing and of better quality because I had
more time to focus on the creating of my product considering I didn’t
have to spend a large amount of time on planning.
• However I think one of the weaknesses of my planning was that in my
other two ideas I didn’t put anywhere as much detail as I did in the first
one, this meant I didn’t have a back up in case something went wrong
with the creation of my product forcing me to do a different idea.
5. Time Management
• I think that I should of managed my time much better then I did because I
ended up handing in work much later then I should of resulting in my product
being of lower quality. I think if I had more time my product could have been
greatly improved as well as my research and planning.
• If I had more time I would of researched more products to get a wider range
of ideas that are better suited for my product, I would have planned a more
detailed and interesting ideas to make my product more appealing to my
target audience of 16-18 year olds.
6. Aesthetic Qualities
I think that my work does look good because it suits the slow and dark theme. A good
example of this is at the start and end of the music video that involves the flame on the
match. I have also tried to get the majority of my shots at night or early in the morning
to stick to the dark and mysterious tone, I think this also better suits the music's beat
and pace making the music video much more appealing to watch. However I think the
weaknesses of my aesthetic qualities is that I have used too much static throughout my
video but especially at the chorus making my video seem like its of lower quality and
less professional possibly putting my audience off from watching my product.
7. Audience Appeal
I have appealed to my target audience by sticking to the theme that the singer EDEN has
stuck to for all of their songs. I have done this by using quite a dark tone and slow pace
shots to stick to the tone and keep the dramatic effect of the music so that it has a better
impact on the audience and makes the audience find the music video more appealing. I
think a lot of my music video relates to my target audience because in the music video I
have mainly stuck to shots that take place in normal areas that people see daily and that
they can relate to instead of having shots in places which people might of never seen or is
out of their price range.
8. Technical Qualities - camera
The shot on the left has been took and edited by the editors that created EDEN’s music video for
Rock + Roll which was another song which I nearly decided to make a music video on because it
is sung by the same person who made the song to my music video. The similarity's in both these
shots is that both my product and this product have been edited to look like they’ve been took
using an old fashioned camera to help set the tone of the music however these shot are in very
different locations to one another. My shot on the right is in an urban environment and I have
tried to make an entryway shot when taking it however the existing products shot is of a rural
environment which is a lot lighter.
9. Technical Qualities – editing/post
Both my music video and
the existing one link up at
the end of the song with
something that happened at
the start. In mine it’s the
match and in the existing
product it’s the girl from the
start
Both my music video and
the existing one have used
some sort of effect to make
the shots seem from the
past by either using
boarders or static.
11. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
• I liked how you made your shots match with the beat at the start
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
• You should add different types of shots because a lot of them are
very similar
12. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
I liked how you transitioned smoothly from one shot to another I a lot of your
shots
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
• I think your shots where the people were walking through London could have
been smoother because they looked out of place
13. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
• I liked how you tied up the start of the song with the end by using a
match
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
• I think you could of used much more lighter colours to have a more positive
effect
14. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
• I agree that I should of used more of a range of different shots
because at the start it was very repetitive, I tried to fix this when
making my product by adding the shots of people walking through
London but It ended up making my work lower quality because
people thought it wasn’t smooth and looked out of place
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
• I disagree with the statement to use brighter colours because the
song is meant to be sad and emotional for the audience to listen to
and brighter colours would bring attention away from what the
singer is trying to get across to the listener.
15. Peer Feedback Summary
I would take out the shots that involve walking through London because my audience
finds it unappealing and because the transition isn’t smooth it makes the audience less
amused in the music video. Instead I would add a range of other shots from other car
rides in different locations so that It looks a lot smoother and matches the theme.
However throughout the rest of my magazine I would also add more of a verity of shots so
that my audience doesn’t find my video repetitive.
16. Action Plan for future development
• I like my idea of trying to do a mix of the past and future in my music
video by fading it between normal colour and grey with static
however I did this in the alley way scene and you can clearly see the
car in front hasn’t moved which ruins the idea, so in the future I will
take a range of shots at different times so that I can make it look like
time has changed. I will also try to use a more appealing static
overlay because the one that I used made it quite hard to see the
actual image behind it possibly making my video unappealing to my
audience.
